Ancient Ruins
Diocletian's Palace, located in Split, Croatia, was built for the Roman emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD. Although referred to as a palace, it is more like a massive fortress with half of it serving as Diocletian's residence and the rest housing a military garrison. Today, this ancient site is part of Split's historic core and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This is a must see on split. Drink up the atmosphere and engineering that has made this place last for so long. Great views from the Bell tower of the whole old town and across the bay. Very well priced and signage in English as well as other languages. Can be busy when cruise ships are in but this is just the part of the hustle and bustle of life now in the city of Split.
Lee E — Google review
This was the most beautiful experience! For history nerds, to influencers, to everyday tourists I'd highly recommend the palace. We absolutely loved it! Take advantage of the package deals to see all the sites like the bell tower, crypt and more. Otherwise, incredible food is found inside and outside the walls
Laura W — Google review
If you love old architecture this is for you.The down side is it gets very busy. There are parts that you pay to go in but only if you want. Guided tours are available. Partial wheel chair access. Accessible parking is near by. Market stalls and restaurants also plentiful.
Kevin S — Google review
It looks like Venice palaces! But less sunken, less scammy, much less formal rules, tourists are nicer, less crowded. And we don't get to see his rooms, Chambers, but get to see temples repurposed by Christians. It's the core attraction of Split and it makes Split a better place than Dubrovnik which is super scammy.
Michael T — Google review
Beautiful spot in old town of Split. You can spend a few hours walking around, many shops and good restaurants. Use the King's gate and touch on the toe of the statue of the King for good luck.
Vipasiri N — Google review
This isn’t just a palace - it’s the literal foundation of Split. Built by Emperor Diocletian in 305 AD as his retirement home, the entire Old Town grew within its walls. Marble columns, sphinxes from Egypt, narrow alleys that open into courtyards full of cafés and live music. Visit during the evening when local musicians play in Peristyle Square - you’ll feel the centuries merge.
Neel B — Google review
•Living icon of Roman heritage in Split, Croatia - lovet! •Commissioned by Emperor Diocletian around 295 CE •A graceful blend of luxury villa and defensive fortress •From imperial retreat to medieval town to UNESCO site •Peristyle, mausoleum/cathedral, baths, and temples •Adaptive reuse: homes, shops, and churches within ancient walls •Visuals: limestone architecture, bell tower, and grand courtyards •Walkable streets: a seamless past and present Must-see: Peristyle, Diocletian’s •Mausoleum, Basements, Golden/Silver Gates
Kathrina L — Google review
Easily manageable ancient town , although best to avoid times when cruise ships are in as the area gets congested quickly. The combined entry ticket is well worth it, although the Bell Tower climb is not fir the claustrophobic. The Palace (really an old town within a town) is definitely a must-do in Split.

The Meštrović Gallery, located in Split, Croatia, is a cultural gem showcasing the works of renowned 20th-century sculptor Ivan Meštrović. Housed in a neo-classical villa built by the artist himself in 1931, the gallery offers a comprehensive display of his sculptures, including statues and portraits reflecting Classical, folk, and Modernist influences.
Lovely garden and sculptures. Unfortunately the building is being renovated so you can’t enter the building. But tickets were half price, and included entry to the church just down the road. The sculptures were well worth a look.
Antony C — Google review
Nice decent price unfortunately a lot of the gallery was closed when we visited but the tickets were discounted. Spacious and tranquil, really helpful and friendly staff who directed us to the church down the road which had a beautiful coastal view. And nice toilet’s probably some of the best in Split.
Pippa W — Google review
What a gorgeous location. During my visit the gallery was closed due to renovations, so I was only able to visit the gardens featuring about a dozen sculptures. Nothing was labeled (or I completely missed this), probably can buy a guide at the ticket office/gift shop. The architecture and gardens are beautiful, it was very serene with a few visitors around. Stunning views of the Adriatic and a reasonably nice view of the Marjan hill (the cross and the flag) due to construction work. The tickets were discounted and also included entry to Crikvine-Kaštelet, located a 10-minute walk up the road.
Iva Q — Google review
A short walk from Split is this imposing gallery. Well worth the effort and not overwhelmed with tourists. Plenty of artworks to suit all interests and in all materials. Ivan Metrovic had his workshop here and lived here, the building itself is impressive, but not overwhelming. And the view from is something not many tourists enjoy. There are steps to navigate but once inside it is cool and relaxed with space to stand back and enjoy these examples of Metric's creativity. The building is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden and serves as a popular wedding venue. Check what is on before you plan your visit. Not an expensive visit with accessible toilets too.
Nigel H — Google review
An interesting building with a small garden populated with some of the artist"s bronze sculptures. The staff were up front about the fact that the building was closed for renovations meaning most of the exhibits were unavailable, and the price was discounted accordingly. The ticket also includes the former church a little further along the road. Watch out for the cute little tortoises in the garden
Nigel M — Google review
The gallery was closed for reconstruction, so we were only allowed to visit the garden area and then the small church ~400 meters away by the sea, but overall experience was pretty pleasant, people working there were nice and it's a great location to take some memorable photos to bring from your vacation
Pavel — Google review
The gallery was closed because of the renovation. Only the garden and Chapel were open fir visitors. I really enjoyed the sculptures in the garden.
Oleksandra B — Google review
The house was closed for renovation when we went, but the garden was good enough as it was half price and there were statues and garden tortoises! A nice place to enjoy the shade and a coffee before striking out to the forest or a beach

The Archaeological Museum in Split is a treasure trove of diverse artifacts housed in an estate-like space with a garden. It features primitive jewelry, tools, mosaics, and historical sculptures from nearby Solin, the precursor to modern-day Split. The museum's collections offer insight into the evolution of technology and enduring human ideas.
Wonderful place for anyone interested in the Roman archaeological finds in this area. An impressive but randomly organised collection of stone carvings displayed around the sides of a quadrangle. Sarcophagi, Headstones etc some as old as first century. A small indoor collection of artifacts in the main building is less interesting with French but no English descriptions. I understand this is because it's sponsored by the French government. In the interior of the quadrangle are reproduced Roman stoneworks; less interesting than the original pieces around the sides. I was amazed to be the only person there during my visit. There are labels on many of the items in English, but for more detailed information you can scan the QR codes for audio.
Miles M — Google review
I loved this place and want to give it five stars but most of the information inside is in Croatian only and not English. The outside takes as much time and is filled with excellent archeological finds from the area. Inside, various rooms are divided into eras and themes. One of the rooms is dedicated to caves that served as retreats and meditation centers which I wish had the information provided in English. I had to use my phone to get an idea of some of the information. Upstairs there are some more modern pieces and history of the building.
Thomas W — Google review
Quite a bad museum to be honest. Their collection is impressive as the nearby roman site is of some significance. Yet, nothing is contextualized and very little is explained. The building housed a small exhibition which when we were there was the best part. Otherwise it's just scattered objects and parked electrical scooters.
Floris H — Google review
The museum currently has a temporary exhibit of burial artifacts inside the building and hundreds of Roman artifacts outside in the main courtyard. The free audio guides (website via QR codes) are very informative and interesting. €8 per adult to enter or €10 for both this museum and the Salona Archeological site.
Chris Y — Google review
Well... When you are used to Italian museums this one has not much to offer. It's just a small garden and 4 rooms on the ground floor. Maybe for the real hardcore fans of Croatian B.C. burial grounds... But always nice to give a small contribution (€8) to the local culture.
Al R — Google review
Interesting place, but some of the exhibitions lack some kind of direction and explanation. Especially the one about the tombstones, an explanation about its content (if they only talk about the person or how they died, why there are no dates, etc.), or the shortcuts like HMHNS or DM. The Medusa exhibition corrected this mistake, but it seemed like it lacked funding. The exhibitions would be nice if they had more depictions, simply showing broken pieces of amphorae and vessels seems lazy. But I believe this is due to the lack of funding. I wish that such important subject that Archeology is ok gets better funding and people have more space to execute finer ideas in the discipline of museum showcasing.
Karel Č — Google review
8 euros is too expensive for such a small museum. Almost nothing inside. If you are interested in Latin inscription and Roman Dalmatian history, it’s a good place. If not, let it go.
Henry Z — Google review
Mixed feelings, the Roman artefacts in the garden are interesting but only some of them are well labelled. The building itself is beautiful but the temporary exhibition inside was small and boring.

The Split Ethnographic Museum, established in 1910, offers a fascinating insight into the traditional costumes, crafts, and culture of the Dalmatian Coast. The museum's collection originated from the Split Craft School and features ethnographic materials gathered by Kamilo Toncic. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing local women's products, folk costumes from various parts of Dalmatia, and works created by pupils of the school.
Free entrance with your (free )Split Card. Beautiful part of the old town. Exhibits are in Croatian and English and feature mostly traditional clothing, jewelry and furniture. Worth an hour of your time. The building itself is gorgeous.
Maria G — Google review
Become immersed in the clothing, lifestyle, work and culture of the region and the country with an hour's visit to this well organised Museum. Most exhibits have translation into English. The staff are friendly and entry is free if you have the Split tourist card, which is itself free if you are staying for 5 nights. It is a huge space inside the historic walls of Diocletian Palace, so, even if it's busy, you won't feel crowded.
Nigel M — Google review
Very quiet when I visited, I guess more tourists go for the boat trips, but I came to Split for the history & culture. I've been to Ethnographic museums in many countries around the World. The emphasis of the exhibition here is on the traditional costums worn by dalmatian & coastal people in previous centuries. But I would like to have learnt more about how people lived and worked in those times.
Miles M — Google review
If you have interest in cultural textiles, definitely visit this museum. They have many gorgeous examples of historical dress! You can also access the remains of the Church of St Andrew de Fenestris from inside.
Danita B — Google review
Fantastic, small museum with a collection of traditional arts and crafts objects from Croatian culture. In addition, it gives you access to the Vestibule terrace, with a breathtaking view of the old town. It’s free with the Split card, and only 3eur entrance for a regular ticket.
Diana D — Google review
The best museum in Split! Great exhibition of regional historical costume and other local cultural history. Well laid out and spacious, and has an outside terrace with chairs to enjoy the view. It’s also possible to climb to the top of the palace for great views of the city around the open dome of the palace.
David S — Google review
Very informative museum and you can also climb to the top of the dome and see the bell tower and rooftops of the old town.

The Temple of Jupiter, located within the grounds of Diocletian's Palace in Split, Croatia, is a significant ancient landmark dating back to the 3rd century. Dedicated to Jupiter and featuring an Egyptian sphinx sculpted from black granite, this well-preserved Roman temple is a must-see attraction. The temple was once supported by massive columns, with only one remaining today.
Located in the western part of Diocletian's Palace near the Peristyle, the central square of the imperial complex. Built between 295 and 305, during the construction of the Palace, and was probably turned into a Baptistery of St. John the Baptist in the 6th century. Don't miss the intricate carvings around the entrance.
Vadim S — Google review
It's interesting but it's just one room with a statue, so as long as you see it as part of the combined ticket then fine, otherwise I don't think it's worth it. If you do go in then make sure you look at the interesting ceiling.
Pawel M — Google review
Whilst this Temple/Babtistery has great historical importance there really isn't much to see here. The information board gives the historical context to this building, but it wasn't the small vaulted ceiling that left me breathless, it was climbing the nearby Cathedral Bell Tower. If you doing it as part of the five attractions of the Cathedral complex then worth the visit but I think the three best attractions come with the "Green Ticket" €12 and include the Cathedral, Bell Tower & Treasury.
Miles M — Google review
Wonderfull!! It is dedicated to the Ancient Roman god Jupiter and was built between 295 and 305, during the construction of the Palace, and was probably turned into a Baptistery of St. John the Baptist in the 6th century. The Temple has one of the twelve sphinxes brought from Egypt by Emperor Diocletian in the entrance.
Nida Ö — Google review
It’s part of Split’s UNESCO World Heritage area and open to visitors — you can step inside, admire the ancient vaulting, and see the blend of Roman and early medieval art. The Temple in Split is one of the best-preserved Roman buildings in the city and a small but fascinating remnant of Diocletian’s Palace, built around the year 300 AD.
Cristian G — Google review
I was a little under whelmed by this site. There is not much inside although the ceiling is interesting. It is old and dates back to the Roman time when the had statues of the god Jupiter, but that doesn’t exist. You can skip this one and save a little money on the ticket price.
Simon R — Google review
Actually, almost nothing truly interesting to see. It makes sense only to buy the bundle of different locations passes (such as treasury, cathedral and crypt). Don't forget to mention your student status, if you are one (costs half the price of the adult ticket).
Andrej T — Google review
The temple may look small and insignificant but if you know the history behind the temple then you appreciate the details and what it was.

Very lovely and brand new museum. It was very informative and learned quite a lot about Splits history. As it just reopened recently, the entrance was free for us.

The Croatian National Theater in Split offers a high cultural experience in an imposing building along pedestrianized Marmontova. The venue presents a diverse program of theater, ballet, and opera. It is a tradition for audiences to dress up for the occasion. The largest theater in the region was constructed under Mayor Gaj Bulat's order and has an interior designed by Italian artist Eugenio Scomparini. The theater opened in 1893 with performances transitioning from Italian-language drama to Croatian.
Amazing performanse, beautiful music, excellent and happy team! Thank you, much love!
Jagoda — Google review
Friendly staff, easy to figure out especially if you don’t speak much of the local language! I was confused about doors vs start time, but for my event, the doors were at the time stated on the ticket (20:00), and then the event started 5 minutes later (20:05). There wasn’t much info online about dress code, but I recommend not wearing shorts or anything above the knee, as most were wearing trousers and longs dresses. Definitely smart/smart casual. I hope this helps some fellow travellers out :) great performance!! Would visit again!

The Croatian Maritime Museum, nestled in the courtyard of the historic Gripe Fortress, offers an intimate look at Split's seafaring tradition. This almost hidden gem showcases maritime relics and art, including model ships and images of sailing boats from ancient times to the age of steam. The museum's collection highlights the deep connection between Split and Dalmatia with the ocean, featuring exhibits on ship development and nautical equipment.
Very reasonably priced entrance. 7.0 euros for 2. IT didn't disappoint. Great maritime history with some information boards in England. A vast amount of history to enjoy not much reading. Did the whole museum I an hour. You could take longer if you stopped at each item. Was split into civilian, military and outside. Outside had part of a huge ship you could get on perfect opertunity for a photo. And the ship was made in the isle of white. Lovely place, no cafe or anything but it was air conditioned so we didn't mind :)
Harri F — Google review
Must see museum in Split, suitable for all audiences. The VR experience is interesting and immersive. All the exhibits are charming in their way, but the ship replicas take the cake. Just for 3.5€ it's an amazing experience. Don't miss the ship outside! P.S. free parking is available in the courtyard if you're lucky and find a spot, it's mostly used by the locals
Stefan-Simion S — Google review
Very interesting museum showing history of both military and civilian shipping along Croatian coast. Just outside of historic centre of Split so not crowded. I enjoyed my visit.
David H — Google review
Wonderful museum which I had almost to myself. One of the staff "Petra" spent a lot of time with me explaining some of the historical events that shaped modern Croatia, her time, knowledge and passion was very much appreciated. The museum covers many aspects of Maritime history with scale models of ships, paintings, engines/motors and many items related to seafaring traditional. Coming from England I was particularly interested in the room dedicated to the development of the first self-propelled torpedo perfected by the British engineer "Robert Whitehead" working in Rijeka. A small outdoor exhibition includes examples of traditional boat building, you also get good views across Split from the Fortress walls. Finally the self-operated VR show is not to be missed. An instruction manual is provided. A bit tricky to get going but once you've got the hang of it, well worth it. With the Stuka, submerged aircraft you really feel your underwater exploring the wreck and moving in three dimensions. For everything you get with this free VR show and exhibitions this museum is excellent value for money, and even a discount for Seniors.

Small, quiet, cool, and super interesting with exhibits on deep sea wrecks, virtual reality visits to underwater sites, the role of women in ship building, naval warfare, commercial seafaring and, of course, torpedos. We came here to escape the heat and are so pleased we did.

Forest Park Marjan, located in Split, is a beloved natural oasis offering a serene escape from the city. With its lush pine forests, peaceful walking paths, and breathtaking viewpoints, it perfectly showcases the beauty of the Dalmatian coast. Whether you're into hiking, cycling, or simply admiring the scenic views, Marjan provides a harmonious blend of nature and urban life.
An absolute must-do while in Split if you’re able to walk up hundreds of steps! Loved the gorgeous trees while hiking up to the top of this mountain! Early June was quite hot, however there’s plenty of shade from the trees and a fountain for fresh water at the chapel (half way point) and there’s a lovely beach on the other side to cool you down. There seemed to be a road for those wanting to drive up as well. summer

What a place. Very steep slopes and many, many steps leading up. We were very presently surprised by a ditto train at the peak waiting to take people down to the old town. We hopped on that for the decent, saved a fair walk. If able, it's wonderful lots of nature, plants, and birds to see topped off with a stunning view at the top.plenty of stop breaks and places in the shade. Take a bottle of water with you.

A park worth to walk. Olease reserve drinking water and some snacks. Dista nces are not far, but You'll have up and downhill and it's demanding in heat of the sun. There are some water posts (at the old zoo etc.) and the water ia drinkable. There was a modern sightseeing tower and it was free to visit up! And there is a lift You can use, so it' s accessible by wheelchair and baby trolleys! Worth to visit!

The Game of Thrones Museum in Split offers fans a chance to immerse themselves in the world of the hit TV show. Located within Diocletian's Palace, a filming location for Meereen, the museum showcases authentic props, costumes, and real-size figures from the series. Visitors can explore city dioramas, sets, and a fan shop with licensed souvenirs and an Iron Throne replica.
Really small venue but lots of props, costumes and exhibits to see. Keep your eyes open or you'll miss loads, there's something good on every piece of wall as well as in the glass cases. If you're a GOT fan you should enjoy it 👍
Stephen T — Google review
15 eurow for 4 rooms filled with badly made figures and books, this place is saved by the high quality props and detailed kroatian history on display. As a game of thrones fan, I liked it, but felt dissapointed comparing it to any other GoT museum.
ER X — Google review
This GOT themed museum in Split, Croatia was fantastic! They've really put effort into all the props. A definite must see for any Game of thrones enthusiast. Mysteries and wonders await..
Stevie W — Google review
A great little museum. Plenty of props and facts about the show, and it's cheap enough to enter. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
Aidan Q — Google review
If you’re a big GOT fan, it’s worth the visit although it’s very expensive for what it is. The museum is very small and there’s not much indication that the props throughout were used in the making of the show. If you read through everything, it’ll take 40-45 min to get through. MAX. The woman at reception was really quite lovely and friendly and since we went before tourist season, we had the place to ourselves to explore at our leisure. If it was busy, I don’t think we’d have enjoyed it as much as we did as it would be quite cramped. It was great for that nostalgic feeling but definitely something that could be passed up. If it wasn’t so costly, it’d be worth the price of admission. I’d say it’s worth about 1/2 of what they currently charge for entry. The associated gift shop has lots of great items however our experience with the service there was the opposite of what we had at the museum. I’m not sure that there was a more miserable person in all of Split! All-in-all, great for the die-hard GOT fans but others might not get the value out of it.
Jessica D — Google review
It had just started to thunder and lighting we darted in as we didn't really know what to do, so we thought why not. I had seen game of throwns my partner hasn't so for him, he found it boring and a waste of money. I enjoyed seeing photos of the area as a film set. Was it worth the money... no, but it was interesting. Very small. Not 100% sure any of the props were the real deal.
Harri F — Google review
For the price, we expected a larger experience, I guess. There were a fair amount of costumes and "weapons" but an even larger amount of pictures. The scale models of certain locations were very cool, though.
Oliwia R — Google review
Awesome! A little bit “small” but great. For every GOT lover. If you purchase a souvenir in the gift shop, you get a discount for the museum entry and few more shops nearby. The museum itself is authentic and definitely worth of seeing.😊

Froggyland is a unique museum featuring 507 stuffed frogs in 21 scenes, each depicting human-like scenarios. Created by taxidermist Ferenc Mere between 1910 and 1920, the collection showcases everyday situations such as playing sports, attending school, and engaging in various professions. The detailed dioramas portray frogs participating in activities like circus performances, photography, painting, and music.
They were closed for the season, but it looks nice from the outside. I had emailed them and asked if they were open and they let me know we were a day late from visiting Froggyland. Oh well. You can’t win them all. Just most of them. Maybe next time I’m in Croatia!

Cute spot to visit. Takes about half hour to see and you'll get some chuckles out of it. No pictures allowed inside. Wife and I walked right in and bought tickets (they take cash & card).

Such a whimsical froggy experience! Brilliant taxidermy skills are on display. My favourite was the circus pyramid of frogs. I wish you were allowed to take photos of the exhibit.

We stopped into Froggyland and to say it was a very unique experience would be an understatement. So many unique frog taxidermy scenes - truly unlike any other tourist spot I’ve ever visited. Worth it if you’re looking for a quick activity to do while staying in Split.

Gerry — Google review
A very cool place. No pictures allowed, but lots of really cool displays. Price of entry is a little bit steep as it’s 21 displays of frogs so not huge (it’s €15, but €13 in cash!) but it was really fun to walk around, I had a great time! If I’m ever back in split, I would return…
Eve — Google review
I'm a bit torn on this one. It is absolutely a unique venue - never saw anything like this in all my travels. At first I thought it was going to be a bunch of different frogs in habitats, but whoa was I wrong hahaha. A taxidermy museum solely of frogs in different dioramas through the early 1900s of Croatia (???). If you have small kids, this will have them hopping, seeing frogs doing all the human things. It is done very well, and I will say the only drawbacks were that you cannot take pictures 🤔 and the price may be a bit steep for the attraction. It may have been a major attraction 5-10 years ago, but this place may be losing its edge against other things in the area. I will say, if you want to visit something nowhere else on the planet, this is it hahaha. Thanks.
Troy C — Google review
Ridiculous little place, I loved it! I don't think it was worth the €13 entry free (€15 if by card), and it would have been nice to have more information about the taxidermist who created this collection over 100yrs ago (there is zero info about him in the exhibition, only a small amount on the website). But overall a fun experience! Also pointless that no photos were allowed, as if you didn't use a flash you wouldn't damage the specimens.

Vestibul is a significant stop on the free Split walking tour, situated in the old town near Diocletian's Palace. This domed room made of stone was once an entrance reserved for Diocletian's esteemed guests. Today, it attracts photographers and Instagram enthusiasts due to its picturesque circular opening to the sky and its proximity to the cathedral. The acoustics of Vestibul also make it a favored spot for local singers and a cappella groups.
The Diocletian Palace area of Split is full of surprises, and one of the best is this entryway into the original 4th century Palace. Designed much like the Pantheon of Ancient Rome, it still maintains enough of the architectural skeleton to give you a sense of what the original might have looked like. You can see the top of the bell tower through the ocular space in the roof and musicians play at various times through the day. It's just a place to pass through, but it leaves a lingering effect
Nigel M — Google review
The Vestibul in Split is a beautiful space to walk through where history wraps around you in stone and echo. The circular walls and open sky above create a moment of calm right in the heart of the old city. It is not a place where you linger for hours but one that stays with you long after you pass through. The mix of ancient architecture and soft light gives it a quiet magic especially early in the morning or late in the evening. A short visit full of feeling a passageway between centuries worth slowing down for.
Mia V — Google review
There is no way you are coming to Split and not stopping by to see this fine example of ancient dome engineering. My only regret was I never had the opportunity to hear some local singers in this area - other videos seemed amazing. Do not miss the opportunity to grab a picture from above - go through the dome from the square. You will see a museum straight ahead, but make an immediate left - pay 2 euros each and make you way up the stairs. When you get to the top, walk freely for some amazing photos. Thanks.
Troy C — Google review
Diocletian's Palace is a rather arbitrary name. The palace itself hasn't survived in its original form, but some of its rooms have been preserved and are quite interesting. This includes the vestibule, which is remarkably well-preserved and boasts superb acoustics. The impression is spoiled by the concert bands that sing in the center of the vestibule and the "Roman legionnaires" who stalk gullible tourists and offer to pose for photos with them.
Game G — Google review
The Vestibule, also known as The Rotonda or The Atrium, is the first section of the imperial corridor in Diocletian's Palace that led from the Peristyle. High open ceiling structure with entrances from both ways.

Very atmospheric place to walk through if you catch the right time! Been through twice; the first had local singers performing in which was great with the acoustics of the stone dome. The second timez the Roman soldiers were preparing for a speech (around 12pm?) and headed out for a 5-min performance.

Matejuška is a small cove near Split's Riviera, historically used as a boat dock by local fishermen. Nowadays, it's a popular hangout for both locals and tourists, especially young adults who gather to enjoy drinks and music against the backdrop of the sea. The area also hosts a fresh fish market on its western side, open from early morning until late evening.
An easy going promenade where people of Split relax, drink beer (bought in a nearby liquorshop), enjoy in the sun, chatting and people-watching. The views of the old city centre and the harbour are priceless.

Step into the ancient world with Diocletians Dream, a virtual reality experience that offers an immersive journey through the history of Split. Located near the Palace walls, visitors can don a high-tech headset and explore the royal chambers of Diocletian's Palace while learning about Emperor Diocletian. This unique museum provides a captivating look at ancient Rome in 305 AD using cutting-edge technology, making it an ideal attraction for history enthusiasts and those seeking innovative experiences.
I was unsure when I was considering it. But I was pleasantly surprised and super satisfied! Overall, it is the best value for your money (13 Euros/person). The staff is very professional, competent, and polite. Since they only take small groups, you really get to enjoy it. The VR is about the life of the emperor and does an excellent job in offering you an intimate look at the emperor's life. After watching it, I went back to the palace again, and the historic buildings made so much more sense to me! I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

I had the pleasure of visiting this VR museum while on my first trip to Split in Croatia. Both me and my mum were lucky enough to just walk straight in and pay after the session. This was my first VR experience and was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable it was. You get to experience the old town and palace back in time with a narater serving as your guide present on screen. It is a fascinating experience to see how gorgeous the palace and scenery was back in time. I only whish the session was longer than the allocated 15 minutes. I never thought I would ever get to see my 80 year old mum done a piece of high tech gear on her head. Utterly Priceless 😁

After finding the nearby art museum closed, I came here as an alternative activity. As others have said, the price seems high for a ~15 minute presentation, and the production quality is not up to date. However, I still got something out of the experience and liked being able to visualize the palace as it might have looked when it was constructed. For a less expensive VR experience, check out the one at the nearby maritime museum.

Miles M — Google review
I honestly don't understand the 5 star reviews and I don't recommend it. 13€ for this 15min VR film is really exaggerated and is absolutely not worth it. The studio who made that film should really be ashamed... the voice acting is terrible, the graphics and the models are horrendous. Characters are behaving like puppets completely desync with whatever is happening on screen. Where is the motion capture? Where is the immersion? Seriously... There isn't any story either, it's dull to watch. Just make it a real story from the Emporer point of view, or a peasant... I don't know, but gosh, that's terrible. One more remark, at the end of the movie, you get couple of pictures of the "nowadays" landmarks to visit. Hell, could it be possible not to show the blurry photos from Google Maps? I'm sure the production can save a day in their life to go on sites and take proper pictures without tourists everywhere! So damn cheap seriously... where do the 13€ go??!

I was solo traveling through Split and heard about this Virtual Reality experience. I thought it would be a fun way to learn more about Diocletian’s Palace, and I was more than impressed! The experience lasts about 15–20 minutes, and I learned so much in that short time. The location is just steps from the palace itself, which made it even more special. It’s a great activity for both solo travelers and families. Its educational, immersive, and a really unique way to experience Split’s history. I recommend buying tickets in advance, especially on rainy days, as it tends to get much busier. Highly recommend!

The Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments, also known as the Archaeological Museum, is a must-visit for those interested in Dalmatian history. Located in the Krizine Palace, it offers a diverse collection of artifacts dating from prehistoric to medieval times. The museum showcases cultural relics such as jewels, weapons, stone monuments, and other historical items that provide insight into the region's past.
We had a wonderful family visit to the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments. The exhibits were fascinating and well-maintained, offering a captivating glimpse into Croatian history. Our sons thoroughly enjoyed the children's activities and were engaged throughout our visit. The staff were incredibly polite and helpful, making our experience even more enjoyable. We highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in history and culture.

It’s free and worth a visit if you have time to kill in Split. The museum is about a 20 min walk from the main centre of Split and contains interesting artefacts such as ancient coins and sarcophagus. Learn about Queen Jelana, King Justin and lots of other interesting people throughout history. The museum could do with a renovation and there was a lot of space for the number of items on display. There wasn’t any air conditioning so it was very warm inside, but we were the only people in there and there was a lot of space so it wasn’t so bad. The top floor doesn’t have any English translation. Overall, an interesting place to visit and better than some places where I’ve had to pay an admission fee.
Belinda B — Google review
Firstly, it's a free museum, so worth a visit whatever reviews say! It's in a very large building, but it feels a bit empty. What's there is interesting. Most of the explanations are in English so you understand what you're looking at. Mostly medieval coins, armour and pieces of buildings.
Adam T — Google review
Do not confuse this with the similarly named “Museum of Archaeology” which is still open.
Shannon R — Google review
Worth a visit, and the cost was free. Not very many exhibits. The building was hit repeatedly by the Serbs during the war of succession, and the permanent collection was relocated to Belgrade early on, and never returned. The garden on the upper level was nice, and not as warm as the interior, as the air conditioning wasn't on. No other visitors when we were there, so an escape from the crowds.
Philipp' P — Google review
Unfortunately the museum is almost empty only a few big objects in te main hall(picture) and a very small exhibition. Very underwhelming and sad to see so little of Croatian history. Also there is no explanation what so every about the objects that are there.

Beautiful space with some important artefacts from Croatia's turbulent past. The coin collection is quite impressive. And the reconstruction of the medieval warrior's head is fascinating. The building deserves a cafeteria and specialist shop.

I’m a huge fan of museums wherever I travel, but this one had given up the ghost awhile back. Large empty exhibits, handwritten notes on the walls, a piano in the middle of the main hall and a strange American woman sprawled out relaxing. On top of this no air conditioning in the middle of summer.

The Saint Domnius Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of St. Duje, is a historic site in Split, Croatia. Built in 305 CE as the Mausoleum of Diocletian, it is considered one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals still in use within its original structure. The cathedral features a Romanesque bell tower and is located within Diocletian's Palace.
This is really quite a special place for those of Catholic faith. It's considered to be the oldest Catholic Cathedral in the world that remains in use in it's original structure, consecrated at the beginning of the 7th Century. Beautiful altars and paintings adorn the interior. It's well worth combining a visit here with the Bell Tower which provides you with magnificent views of the city.
Miles M — Google review
Very nice building with beautiful golden interior. If you are able to climb steep stairs I recommend to visit the tower (costs extra), the view gives you a complete overview over Split. Great!
Jens C — Google review
Absolutely stunning, this is a must see if you are in Croatia. I highly suggest taking a guided walking tour with an expert as there are so many aspects to this palace. You get a sense of feel of the history, the culture, the different times in the different centuries. This is a great place to visit for somebody who is into architecture, going back to the 15th and 16th century, where you can see the architectural influences going back into the generations, just based on the stones that were used in the different sections of the cathedral.
Stella M — Google review
We tried several times to get inside the cathedral, but to no avail. A female "gatekeeper" stood at the door, barring anyone she considered "tourists." If local authorities position the cathedral solely as a place of prayer and not a tourist attraction, then why include it in the list of tourist attractions? This division between "us" and "them" is irritating and depressing. The cathedral's bell tower is visible from everywhere in the Old City. It's ornate and impressive.
Game G — Google review
My Experience of the Cathedral of Split – A Journey Through History Visiting the Cathedral of Saint Domnius in Split was a truly unforgettable experience. Standing in the heart of Diocletian’s Palace, the cathedral is not just a building – it’s a powerful reminder of the layers of history that have shaped the city. To walk through a structure that was once the mausoleum of a Roman emperor and is now a Christian cathedral still in use today was deeply moving. The contrast between its ancient Roman architecture and its sacred Christian function made the experience feel both timeless and alive. Climbing the bell tower offered breathtaking views of Split and the Adriatic Sea, but what struck me most was the feeling of being surrounded by centuries of faith, art, and resilience. The carved wooden doors, the stone columns, the quiet atmosphere inside – everything spoke of a long and rich story that continues to this day. For me, the cathedral was the highlight of my visit to Split. It brought history to life in a way few places can. If you're seeking a place where the ancient and the spiritual meet, this cathedral is an experience not to be missed. ZazaPress

The oldest Catholic cathedral in the world (consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD) that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date. The structure itself, built in AD 305 is the Mausoleum of Diocletian. The Cathedral of St. Domnius is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower. The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Domnius. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Domnius.

Little work to get up , if you have gone to the top of the Vatican it will be peanuts for you. It’s also less impressive, i didn’t like the guards at the entrance I find them rude , it’s also small but the courtyard is very interesting and you get a beautiful view of top
Sidiki T — Google review
Much smaller than I was expecting but then I learnt it was the Emperor's mausoleum before being repurposed in the 7th century. It is worth the visit and part of the multi-site ticket. Pity that too many large tour groups try to go into the small space at once. You need to buy the tickets from the ticket office on the other side of the square.

Fruit Square is one of those spots in Split that feels like a hidden gem, even though it’s right in the middle of everything. It’s got a cool mix of history and chill vibes—surrounded by old buildings, a statue of Marko Marulić, and even a Venetian tower. Great place to sit down, grab an ice cream or coffee, and just watch the world go by. It’s super close to Diocletian’s Palace, so it’s easy to swing by while exploring. Definitely worth a quick stop or a longer break if you need to rest your feet.

This might have been our favorite place in Croatia!! Such a gorgeous square, just inside the gate of Diocletian's Palace. Great food, drinks, and shopping right here. Our VRBO overlooked this square, and it was perfect looking out the windows every morning and evening.

Such a gorgeous square, just inside the gate of Diocletian's Palace. There is great lace to sit down by the sculpture of Marko Marulic 1450 - 1524.
Sabrina M — Google review
An open area with some welcome shade from the sun and some interesting buildings and a statue. The Square of Radić Brothers is called “The Fruit Square” because it was once home to the bustling and colorful market where women from the surrounding villages came to sell their fruit. Nowadays, in the middle of the square, you can find the statue of Marko Marulić, the father of Croatian literature, sculpted by Ivan Meštrović, the most renowned Croatian artist.

Art Galleries
The Museum of Fine Art in Split, also known as Galerija umjetnina, is housed in a former hospital and showcases Croatian and European artworks spanning from the 14th century to the present day. The museum's collection boasts over 5,200 pieces displayed across approximately 2200 m2. Reflecting the cultural influences of various ruling states throughout history, including the Venetian Republic, Austro-Hungarian Empire, socialist Yugoslavia, and present-day Croatia.
I really enjoyed my visit here, it was so quiet, just two others visitors in the galleries. Organised around a central open quadrangle I think there is something for everyone here. The museum exhibits works from the 14th Century onwards, hence allows you to see how styles have changed through the centuries from medieval paintings and wood carvings through to modern abstract art. There is also a small display of contemporary video art which I think will expand in the future and some 70's black & white photos. I've included a representative cross section of all the works on display with my review.
Miles M — Google review
I didn’t have high expectations and was amazed by exhibition. It’s very good - to my taste, good selection of art prices, very-well organized structure of the museum and amount of works. Just perfect!
Olga C — Google review
What a treasure in the heart of Split. If you have some time in Split, this museum is worth a visit. In just 2 hours you can see the main collections and appreciate the evolution of local art from medieval icon-painting to contemporary exhibitions.
Zuzana B — Google review
Museum is in a well restored hospital building. Two separate collections from 14th century to contemporary art. It's nice but would need more clarifications on the development of the art. There are several Tintoretto's paintings in the churches of the islands. He must have had students, but not visible here.
Samu S — Google review
I was really surprised by how good both the main collection and temporary exhibitions were, especially considering it’s a museum in a small city and definitely not the main attraction here
Alexandra G — Google review
Quiet,air-conditioned and has interesting temporary exhibitions as well as a permanent display.

What a gem! We visited during our holiday to Split last week. A beautiful collection of Croatian art ranging from the 14th century to the present day. Highly recommend a visit to escape the crowds and get a real education on Croatia and its fine artists. Sadly under funded. If you get a chance, go!
Sue W — Google review
Lots of paintings and some sculptures. €5 entry for adult. For me inside there wasn’t much exciting pieces to see. I just like the architecture. We were there to escape the crowd. However, there a cafe inside and it looks nice. Also there is a free toilet near the ticket counter area which I would have come used instead of spending €1.

The Split synagogue is a magnificent and historic place that dates back to the 16th century. It is one of the oldest Sephardic synagogues in the world, and remains active to this day. It is well worth visiting if you are in Split, and provides an insight into Croatia's rich Jewish history.
Lovely to visit. Thank you for showing us around. Have posted the photos on the Taipei Facebook page 🙏

Beautiful authentic ancient synagogue. Unfortunately the guide who is a member of the local community is not treating it as one should. He doesn't wear a head covering, the Torah scroll was standing on the edge of the open arch for no reason, because it is not needed for reading as he assured me that the community consists of "non-believers" like him and "half-jews" from the wrong side. In every community I have been so far even the non Jewish employees put on a head covering when they enter the synagogue, out of politeness and respect for the holy sites of others. I was allowed to darwen Mincha there - yeshar koach and lot of blessings for this, Mr Albert! - when a woman came next to me and read a kaddish from one of the liberal prayer books that lay on the bima. The place itself is really impressive, just that it is handled in such a manner is really disturbing.
Igor P — Google review
A member of the community did a great tour. If the gate is open ring the bell to enter. Hours in Google maps not correct.

Gallery Emanuel Vidovic is a tribute to the renowned Croatian painter Emanuel Vidovic, who is celebrated as the pioneer of modern art in Split. Situated within Diocletian's Palace, this gallery showcases Vidovic's remarkable works in a contemporary setting. The exhibits are displayed chronologically, allowing visitors to witness the evolution of Vidovic's artistic prowess. As Split's beloved artistic figure, his obsession with capturing the beauty of Adriatic coastal life is palpable throughout his pieces.
Interesting artwork from a famous painter
Lukasz Z — Google review
I would pay a visit if being near Deocletian Palace. Nice museum presenting mostly the work of Croatian artist - Emanuel Vidovic , but what I was more fond of was the temporary exhibition. I also liked the artist's room setup with interactive illuminated pieces, it was fun. A downer for me was the fact that not all pieces and information presented had an English equivalent, which made it harder to be fully and truly an enjoyable experience.
Bogdan F — Google review
Dark art and poor lighting. But I like the temporary exhibition at the ground floor. I thought that was what the gallery was about.
Jim R — Google review
My rating is mostly for the place itself, not for the art which it contains, as the exhibition was really nice and Vidovic was a really outstanding painter. However the place was really badly lit, it was really hard to see 80% of his works, honestly never seen this bad lighting in a galery ever. I beg you to give more light for this masterpieces. Besides this the painter itself was really interesting with some really good pieces and it was quite well made a film about his life as well which gave some background knowledge about him. Also would like to note that the entry fee was only 5 euro, so definitely worth to check it even with the current lighting conditions. I'm just hoping that the owner maybe will read this and will make some upgrade after a 2 stars review.
Szilard H — Google review
Interesting and slightly interactive museum! And for free with the Split card! We enjoyed ourselves here for about an hour. Nice to learn something about Vidlvic and his paintings
Anne M — Google review
Really interesting to visit the gallery as it was left 50-odd years ago when Vidovic died. Top floor puts the exhibition into perspective and explains why the works are a touch dark…

Vidovic was a significant Croatian painter. The gallery is mainly devoted to his output. There is an informative video concerning his career. There are also temporary exhibitions. This is a beautiful gallery in a renovated Romanesque house.

Beaches
Plaža Kaštelet is a popular pebbly beach in Split, known for its palm trees and great swimming opportunities. It is favored by the younger crowd and is located just below the Ivan Strović Gallery, around 20 minutes away from the town center. Accessible by foot, local bus, or car, this quieter beach offers a more laid-back atmosphere without many amenities. The fate of its food and beverage offerings for the upcoming summer season remains uncertain.
This is a great beach, the water is very clear (as it is all around Split) and it's lovely to have a park full of trees at your back on the beach (albeit, up a hill). It's a pebble beach and the slope down is quite steep, it goes from shallow to deep in only a few metres, so careful not to go out too far if you're not a strong swimmer. Plenty of parking, but also lots of spots to chill.
Mat B — Google review
Awesome views, great diving spots and lots of parking space. The commerce scene is … not existent so take your cold beverages and food with you. Unfortunately, not pet/dog friendly based on the signs but saw a few people locals with their dogs so… go figure?!
Marcelo B — Google review
Very pretty, small to medium sized shingle beach and seabed but not pebbles like you'd find in Brighton. Despite no sand it was scenic and quieter, really lovely on a hot day. We walked a long way to try to find the bar we'd heard was there but didn't come across one. We saw something a long way off that may have been a bar but we weren't prepared to walk any further ro check it out in the heat so I would take your own refreshments.
Arlette R — Google review
Great beach! The water is clean and crystal clear. I really liked how well it’s equipped: there are changing cabins, showers, and steps for entering the water. It looks like the trees were planted not too long ago, so there isn’t much natural shade yet, but I think in a couple of years it will be even better. There are no sunbeds for rent, but the pebbles aren’t too big, so it’s quite comfortable to stay on a towel.
Yanina V — Google review
Beautiful spot. Plenty of space and lots of free parking, if you have a car. We walked from the promenade and didn't take us long.
Rachael T — Google review
Taking morning swims an sun gazing at this beach is a blessing. We get here around 7.15 and there are already people swimming 🙂 Very nice public beach, where locals go. It has a parking space, showers and changing spaces. Not sure about WC's as didn't look for one. There are beaches either side with access from shore and steps. Lots of small trees that give a little shade. It's a pebble beach and the slope down is quite steep, it goes from shallow to deep in only a few metres, so be careful not to go out too far if you're not a strong swimmer. What it is really nice, there are NO beach bars so no loud music and no smell of burnt fish or candy suggar or any other BS. Just puur nature and normal people. Pretty views of islands to the south and clean and azure water. A place to be.
Sabrina M — Google review
Beautiful water but trickier to get to walking and a pebble beach so a bit painful getting in and out of the water. Not too crowded.

Visitors can stroll along stony paths while taking in panoramic views of the surrounding islands and cityscape.
Beautiful park overlooking in split harbour and the city of Split. Great place to walk while enjoying the views. There's St. Stephens church, and a gazebo type structure. Many large pine trees providing shade and lots of park benches to sit and relax. Worth a visit - entrance is free. Plan to spend up to an hour.

Located in the heart of Split's Old Town, People's Square is a vibrant and lively area filled with stunning Renaissance and Baroque architecture. It is a popular meeting spot for both locals and tourists, offering charming cafes, chic restaurants, and bars perfect for people-watching. The square features the fifteenth-century town hall, which now serves as a museum, as well as the city clock with its unique 24 digits instead of 12.
A historic square in the palace area of Split lined with restaurants, cafeterias, bars, shops of all types, bakeries, ice cream parlours in the square and in the adjoining lanes. This quaint place though old is maintained with exceptional standards of cleanliness. It becomes a very lively place buzzing with tourists and an occasional musician playing on another instrument or singing. One can just sit outside in the courtyard and take in the atmosphere and enjoy a leisurely drink or food. A nice place to be in!

The medieval market square in Split is a charming little place full of restaurants and a few notable historic buildings, but not so notable that they will stand out in your memory. It is a nice place, but in Europe there are scores of small market squares just like this one, and so, in that way, it is very average. Restaurants are some of the most expensive in town and it is very nearly always brimming with tourists so don't expect to be able to take a quiet stroll in its environs.

We came upon this place while searching for live music, and it did not disappoint! There was a $10 cover, but it got you a shot of your choosing. Our server was amazing and never kept our glasses empty! The live band was incredible and we had a lovely evening.

The place was quite full at the moment of arriving but the vibe was amazing. People were singing and dancing to the cool rock songs of the musician. There is table service but I would recommend picking your drinks from the bar since the drinks we ordered arrived almost 20 minutes after we ordered them. Drink prices are quite high for a place with a more chill vibe. The location is quite special but too expensive.

I met a couple of friends for a 15 min chat and ordered a small sparkling water as i was about to go for a drive. 4€ ! Small water. I had told a group of local friends to meet me there and say hi before i leave and maybe stay for the concert which was about to start, I told them not to come after i saw the bill. Prices are more acceptable on fancy cafés by the sea than in this venue that used to be alternative and for locals. Sorry to my musician friends who perform there, I'm not supporting this anymore. Oh, and there was no paper in the toilets, and guests hadn't even arrived yet.

I 100% recommend this bar. The atmosphere was incredible. Not only the waitress and the bartender, also the other customers and the band’s musicians made my nights in Split unforgettable. Zinfandel Food & Wine Bar is a chic and modern establishment situated in the historic center of Split. The bar, named after the famous Croatian Zinfandel grape, boasts a diverse menu featuring Mediterranean-inspired dishes paired with an impressive selection of Dalmatian wines. With a warm and inviting ambiance, patrons can enjoy live music while indulging in elegantly crafted meals and a variety of shared platters that include cold cuts, artisan cheeses, and marinated seafood.
We ordered pasta with prawns, seafood risotto, and mussels. All these dishes weren’t special, but still tasted good. But the real star of “Zinfandel”’s menu is desserts. We chose cheesecake, kadaif cannelloni, and lemon tart — each looked beautiful and was more than just tasty. One point comes for a good service: our waiter was polite, friendly, and attentive. The only problem in this restaurant is the coffee which tastes terrible. Generally, it’s a nice atmosphere in this place, hospitable people, tasty food and live music, so we are delighted.
Olha V — Google review
Excellent dishes. Octopus was prepared to a level I’ve never had. Not chewy, slight sweet and nutty. Well balanced dish with chickpeas olives etc. The restaurant is curated to a level consistent and expected from Michelin guide restaurants down to the lighting, live music and 10/10 service. Not stuffy, pushy just a laid back atmosphere that will keep you coming back when you’re in Split. Highly recommended

Just amazing! Highly recommend Zinfandel for an amazing meal and evening out in Split. The food was delicious and they were able to cater to my dietary requirements (including dairy and some seafood) without any issue or compromise on flavour. The wines were all superb and the waiter gave great recommendations and information about everything we tried. There was also live music, which made for a great atmosphere.

I’m from Toronto and I’ve come to Split the last two years in a row and Zinfandel is always a non-negotiable restaurant. The food is amazing and the staff is so amazing and hospitable. They remembered me and my friend from the year before and welcomed us with warm greetings. This most recent year, 2025, we went a total of 3 times within a span of 24 hours. They are also amazing with accommodating to gluten-free and dairy-free restrictions. Big thank you to Igor who remembered us from last year. Also thank you to Leon and Marina who served us this year also.

Food was sublime. Every dish we tried was fantastic. Ingredients and combinations work so well. Service was fast and professional. Only cons was that the live music was a bit too loud. Otherwise, the best experience we had in our trip. Will not hesitate to come back if I ever return to Split.
Paola P — Google review
We came across Zinfandel from the Michelin guide. We were very excited to give it a try. We had the lunch deal (two courses for €29). We had - cauliflower mushroom starter (mushrooms were extremely salty) - pesto risotto (there were supposed to be shrimps inside, I got two very very small pieces) - beef burger was actually nice - dessert was supposed to be a chocolate tart, it was very disappointing the only option they advertised wasn’t available for lunch, we had the cannoli, it was a bit too hard. Service was slow, we received a discount as a compensation. Overall, our experience did not match the Michelin recommendation.

This restaurant is a must go. We had the tuna steak and the duck breast. Both plates were sooo good. The Markus white wine to go with it was amazing. It truly deserves it’s Michelin mention.

We ate the muscles with figs, which was for me a bit of a strange combination. The fish and steak afterwards was very good. The service was good. The restaurant was fully booked, but you could still talk, even with the live singer that did a great job. We sat at the window and the garbage collector passed 2 times which gave an unpleasant smell.

Restaurant Bajamonti is a true gem in the heart of Split, perfectly situated at the end of the Riva and nestled within the vibrant Prokurative square. This charming eatery not only boasts stunning views of the Adriatic Sea but also offers an inviting atmosphere enhanced by seasonal floral decorations on each table. The service here is exceptional, with staff who go above and beyond to make your dining experience memorable—like remembering your preferences from previous visits!
What a fabulous place to eat & drink - it's worth visiting just for the tenderloin steak!! Zoran was our waiter and helped us enormously with the menu, extremely polite and friendly throughout our visit to this lovely restaurant. Great food, great staff, great view, great for people watching! We will definitely be returning next time we are in Split. Prices were very reasonable for such a prime location, and cheaper than we found elsewhere in the old town.

Bajamonti was a pleasant surprise indeed. The food was delicious - we went for the seabass for 2 and the monkfish. My girls had the margerita pizza which they cleaned off quickly. Service was lovely and they even kindly re-seated us outside once the rain had stopped at my request. Nothing seemed to be a bother and our waiter was fantastic. He filleted the fish in style and ensured we were comfortable. The atmosphere in the square was truly lovely and lively, whilst not being too loud serving a pleasant environment to dine in. I would highly recommend a visit here!

The food was great we ordered two pizzas and some burgers. It was delicious, juicy and savory. Joseph (our waiter) is an AMAZING waiter. He was attentive, personable, and funny. He provided amazing service and made the whole dining experience an enjoyable one. Absolutely ask for him when you dine here! Could not recommend enough!!!

We had a wonderful lunch here. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I am a coeliac and I need to eat gluten free, which was clearly indicated on the menu and there were a number of options for me. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The service was impeccable, as was the setting and the ambience. (They even laughed at my husband's jokes 😄). I would certainly recommend you check out this restaurant if you are ever in Split, Croatia. Thank you to the three, wonderful, staff members who served us 😊. The price I selected included a very tasty bottle of wine.

Our first night in Split and we were looking for something simple and easy. These folks absolutely hit it out of the park. The wife had what basically in America would be a calzone, and I had a cheese pizza added prosciutto, and both of them were absolutely fantastic! Homemade pizza crust garlic bread was fantastic as well. Had a couple of drinks and the bill was quite reasonable! Highly highly recommend, oh yeah, the view and setting is spectacular as well.

Very nice restaurant with breathtaking view! Super cool they have tables outside because you can enjoy the view. The lobster was perfect - homemade koculanski makaruni was also super tasty! Fish stew was quite low- lack of taste, lots of bones in fish and lack of spices - honestly the dish quite average. But in general, I recommend this restaurant. Staff was super friendly and polite

The food was perfect. There was live music all the time and it had such a great atmosphere. Our waiter, Božo, was the best, both me and my friend asked for recommendations and he didn't miss. I really liked the burger and the lamb. All desserts tasted amazingly and a very pleasent experience overall.😀

The Golden Gate is a 4th-century Roman stone entryway located at the north end of Diocletian's Palace in Split. This ornate gate, adorned with arches and statues, served as the portal to Salona and features a guardhouse housing the 9th-century Church of St. Martin.
While visiting Diocletian's Palace, this main gate should definitely be included in the walking tour. It was not crowded in April. Mostly enjoyed!
Muazzez G — Google review
The Golden Gate in Split is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. This impressive Roman gate is part of the ancient Diocletian's Palace and served as the main entrance to the palace in its prime. The gate itself is beautifully preserved, with intricate carvings and a massive arch that makes you feel like you’re stepping into history. It’s easy to miss the small details unless you stop and take a close look, like the sculptures of Roman emperors and other ornamental features that give a glimpse into the grandeur of the original palace. It can get a little busy here with tourists, but it’s still worth the visit for its historical significance and beauty. It’s a great spot to take photos and appreciate the history of Split, especially since the Golden Gate is one of the best-preserved parts of Diocletian’s Palace. We absolutely loved the guards all dressed up!
K E — Google review
The Golden Gate is more than just an entrance—it's a dramatic welcome into the heart of Diocletian’s Palace and the soul of Split. Towering and beautifully preserved, this 4th-century Roman gateway once served as the emperor’s ceremonial entrance, and it still feels regal today. The stonework is impressive, with ornate statues and arches that hint at the grandeur of the palace beyond. I loved how the gate frames the view into the bustling old town, where ancient walls meet modern life. It’s especially striking in the early morning when the crowds are thin and the light hits the stone just right. Don’t miss the statue of Gregory of Nin just outside—rub his toe for good luck, as the locals say. Whether you're on a walking tour or just wandering solo, the Golden Gate is a must-see landmark that sets the tone for Split’s layered history.

Staying split. Foods not great so far. And everything seems expensive for tourists. Beer bad and cocktails. Not quality. Beautiful place though. Came years ago when it was so much cheaper. Irland hopping so hope gets better with the food.

The Golden Gate of Emperor Diocletian. Where else can you walk through the same gateway as a Roman emperor did 1700 years ago? Best experienced early in the morning just after sunrise when there's no tourists around.
Tom — Google review
The Northern Gate is one of the four principal Roman gates into the old town of Split. Built as the main gate of Diocletian's Palace, it was elaborately decorated to mark its status. Over the course of the Middle Ages, the gate was sealed off and lost its columns and statuary. The gate stood at a terminal point of the road which led north towards Salona, Diocletian's birthplace

Marulić was also involved with the Humanist circle during his days and is known to have been the first to use the Croatian language. Thus, many believe that the Croatian Renaissance is owed to him.

Spaladium Arena is a versatile venue suitable for large-scale events like concerts and exhibitions. The arena boasts top-notch sound systems, lighting, and air conditioning. Despite these concerns, it has hosted successful events like the European water polo championship.

Ivan F — Google review
The architecture of the venue look modern, but it's unfinished and you see a lot of bare concrete. What an eyesore. It needs to be finished to the end so that this arena could look how it should look and it would be good if this whole area can be gentrified.

Venue is good enough and pretty modern, but security staff were pretty overzealous. Best warning - don't expect to take any liquid or anything resembling a liquid from the outside into the inside.
Colin R — Google review
Although this was not really needed for Split (as there is old building Gripe which is in dire need of renovation) as it is rarely opened and large part of it is not finished it is very good concert venue. It is shame that there is no more concerts and other events and it is awful to look at unfinished parts.
Tonko L — Google review
This is an arena perfect for concerts and other events of that scale. The sound system, the lights, air conditioning, all was up to par. However, some of the toilets don't flush properly due to the water flow being poor. They should also do something about the steps because people are having to balance, so it would be useful to install railings, especially for the elderly citizens who, as far as I've seen, have to hold on to someone when going up and down the steps of the arena.

(Translated by Google) The Church of Santa Eufemia was among the first churches built near the palace walls. It was first mentioned in a document reporting the establishment of a Benedictine convent on that site in 1609. Today only the foundations of the church have been preserved. However, its original appearance was known, thanks to drawings that had been made before the church was destroyed by fire in 1878. In the late Middle Ages, a chapel of Blessed Arnerius, Archbishop of Split, was added to the south of the church. The chapel's most notable feature is a masterpiece altar with a relief made by George the Dalmatian, a sculptor, in 1444. In the 17th century, the bell tower was erected near the church and convent and was incorporated into the walls surrounding the entire complex. Both the convent and the walls were demolished in the period following the Second World War. The Live Museum Split is a unique and immersive theatrical experience that takes visitors back in time to experience life as a Roman citizen. The museum is based on user preferences, so there are scenes from everyday life presented in an interesting and exciting way.
For around 30-50 kunas you will get to hear about Roman warfare and gear history, hold real Roman swords and shields and wear armor, and shoot with a bow and a ballista (a huge artillery crossbow). I am an artist who travels all the time and I make it a lint to buy local paintings this gallery is an absolute gem in Split, Croatia🎨 🌟 If you're an art enthusiast like me, this hidden gem in Split is an absolute must-visit! Located in the heart of the city, this gallery owned and run by a talented local artist showcases an impressive collection of watercolor and acrylic paintings created en plein air. 🌿🎨 What struck me the most about this gallery was the artist's ability to capture the essence of Split's breathtaking landscapes. Each stroke of her brush brought to life the vibrant colors of the city to the serene ambiance of this coastal paradise. What's truly remarkable is the artist's dedication to making art accessible to everyone. With prices ranging from 10€ to €1500 (the larger pieces also being understandably more), her artwork pricing is more than reasonable if not to low. It's refreshing to see an artist who values the joy of art appreciation over exorbitant prices. 💰🎉 The gallery itself has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with ample space to appreciate each piece. The lighting perfectly accentuates the delicate brushwork and vibrant hues, making the experience truly immersive. The artist's passion for her craft is evident in every corner, and her friendly demeanor adds an extra layer of charm to the visit. 🎭❤️ The artist/gallery owner is also humble and knowledgeable, she teaches and is also one of the nicest person you will meet! Such a beautifull atelier. The colours of the paintings are stunning. Very fair prices. Many small souvenirs to find as well, for example small bags with motives or hand painted, T-shirt’s with beautiful prints, painted cups and tiles. Wish I could buy it all. Also the artist is so sweet, beside from being talented. She really knows how to capture the colors. If you’re in the area it’s sure worth a visit, both to buy a small special gift, souvenir or want a beautiful picture for your wall. Wish I had a bigger suitcase...

When you have feelings this intense, you have to let them out. Any chance of critical objectivity has evaporated.
