Park
Nature & Parks
Buddhist temple
Naritasan Park, located behind the renowned Naritasan Temple, is a vast traditional landscape featuring tranquil lakes, serene waterfalls, and lush greenery. The park offers scenic trails around tree-lined ponds and a stunning plum garden with seasonal blossoms. It's an ideal spot to admire spring blooms and fall foliage. The park is especially beautiful during cherry blossom season in March and April as well as in October when the leaves change color.
Review for Naritasan Park (成田山公園) Naritasan Park is a peaceful retreat just behind Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, offering a beautiful escape from the crowds. The park is surprisingly large, with scenic walking paths, serene ponds, and lush greenery that changes beautifully with the seasons. During autumn, the maple trees turn brilliant shades of red and orange, creating a stunning backdrop. In spring, cherry blossoms add a delicate charm. The park also features traditional Japanese gardens, small shrines, and a waterfall, making it a great spot for a quiet stroll or a moment of reflection.
Wisanu T — Google review
Naritasan Park is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit, especially if you enjoy nature and traditional Japanese scenery. The park is spacious, with well-maintained walking paths, koi ponds, and seasonal flowers. In spring, the cherry blossoms are stunning, and in autumn, the maple leaves create a breathtaking view. It’s located right behind Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, so you can easily visit both in the same trip. The atmosphere is calm and perfect for a relaxing stroll or photography. Best of all, entry is free, making it a great spot for families, couples, or solo travelers.
Suman C — Google review
Totally the bets thing about the temple area is this park. Easy to have a picnic and enjoy the atmosphere for a traditional garden. Even if the temple is crowded, there is always plenty of space here. The pond is a must see. Enjoy the photos....
Mark W — Google review
Located just behind the Naritasan Shinshoji shrine, this park is an escape from city's hustle and bustle. There are well paved paths all around with multiple ponds and small streams full of fish and tortoise.
Mayank J — Google review
Beautiful place, absolutely amazing and if you’re in the area I recommend visiting. Even if you’re not in the area I suggest make it a trip to visit this place.
Victor A — Google review
Absolutely, jaw-droppingly stunning. It's a painstakingly landscaped forest park, with a full lake and waterfall, and takes barely an hour to walk fully. If you are looking to burn 2 hours of waiting at the airport, come here instead. From the airpport take any of the trains to Narita station 20mins, and this park is just 15minutes from the station, with plenty of snacks, souvenir and food options along the way to make the journey seem effortless. Go behind the temple (there are several paths) and make sure to walk down to the lake at least to enjoy some immaculate naturescaping and absolute peace.
Chak O — Google review
Perfect peaceful place to a spend a few hours especially a long layover or an extra day in Japan after a cancelled flight. It is a short trip from narita airport and surrounding hotels. Beautiful pond, paths and trees! Beautiful fall foliage right now and easy to visit the adjacent temple at the same time

Though in the middle of summer, this place is still very beautiful. Don't come mid day as the sun is too strong.

Science museum
Museums
The Museum of Aeronautical Sciences, located near Narita Airport in Japan, is a must-visit for aviation enthusiasts and families alike. This unique museum offers a wide variety of modern aircraft, including full-scale replicas of historic planes and helicopters. Visitors can also enjoy hands-on experiences such as piloting their own plane in life-sized flight simulators. The museum's observation area provides impressive views of the runway action at Narita Airport.
It's a small museum, but very high quality. Stuff for adults and kids. One of the highlights is the flight simulator experience they offer. Very detailed 737 sim, and the man running it is a very good teacher. Only 1000 yen for a session, two sessions available per hour. Very good way to pass an hour or two if you have some extra time before a flight. Pro tip: if your coming from NRT on a weekday, the bus to here leaves from bus stand #2 for Terminal 2/3. On weekends, I believe the Soramaru bus runs, not sure about that schedule but airport info desk is helpful.
Winston M — Google review
Really close to the airport, so catching a bus here was very easy. There’s a viewing platform outside where you get a great view of planes coming in. Some interesting displays and 747 stuff to geek out over, and a smallish assortment of aircraft on display outside. With a visit if you’re a plane buff, love tech and engineering or just like this sort of museum. Certainly a quicker visit than the technic museums in Heidelberg!
Travis Y — Google review
We stumbled upon the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences purely by chance—my son saw a flyer while we were at the observation deck in Narita Airport. We checked the map and saw it was really close by, so we decided to go for it on a whim. I purchased the tickets on Klook, which turned out to be a great decision because they were cheaper than buying them at the ticket booth onsite. Definitely recommend checking prices online beforehand. When we arrived, we were surprised by how big and well-organized the museum was. It’s divided into different sections and floors, with full-scale aircraft on display—some you can even walk into. There are interesting exhibits showing the history of aviation, aircraft engines, a Boeing 747 cockpit, and even a section where you can see and hear what it’s like inside a plane. My son was fascinated! One of the highlights is the rooftop observation deck. From there, you can watch planes taking off and landing at Narita Airport, which was really exciting—especially for a kid who loves airplanes. We saw that there are paid experiences like the flight simulator, which looked awesome, but unfortunately we couldn’t get a slot for it on the day we visited. Next time, we’ll definitely book in advance for that. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there were signs in both Japanese and English, which made it easy for us to understand everything. Overall, it was a fun and educational experience, and I’m so glad we decided to visit even though it wasn’t originally part of our plan. If you’re at Narita Airport with some time to spare—or if you’re an aviation fan—it’s definitely worth checking out. Just make sure to book tickets online for a discount and plan ahead for the paid experiences like the simulator. A must-visit!
セノウエプリンセス — Google review
If you want to experience for airlaine control simulations for additional costs, needs extra time and check availability ahead. Make sure public transportation timetable or use taxi from Narita airport (costs around 2500yen) It's fun, just walking around this museum. I enjoyed 5th floor observation area. Watching airplanes departures from HND
Manami K — Google review
No english explanations. But the exhibits were interesting. There is an outdoor area with planes. The best part would probably be simulators which needs to be booked in advance. Next best thing was the observation deck where you had a very good view of planes coming in to land. Easy bus ride from Narita station and airport but do check the frequency and day of the week.
Li X — Google review
Used some spare time before the flight from Narita to visit here. But would recommend. Easily an hour and half needed. Reach early to book the 737 cockpit flight simulator. The observation deck on 5th floor and open air one if weather permits are also highlights. Klook discount for tickets.
Jose K — Google review
Although we were pressed for time and browsed through quickly, it was a wonderful little stop before heading to the airport. Great for kids to learn about planes and airports and it is interactive too.
Sholeh O — Google review
This museum absolutely delivered! They have a giant model of a 747 that you can fly by going into a cockpit, and there is a DC-8 Flight Experience. When you walk in, you are greeted by many high-quality model planes. Oh, I forgot, the giant model of Narita on the second floor, AND, a plane spotting sport that one would dream about. I would recommend any ages for this place and you should go soon. Absolutely. AMAZING 🤩

AEON MALL Narita is a spacious shopping center located just 5 kilometers away from Narita Airport, easily accessible via a direct bus ride from JR Keisei Narita Station. The mall features a wide range of stores offering Japanese fashion, housewares, food, and daily items by the AEON Corporation. Additionally, visitors can enjoy various dining options in the restaurant area and explore bookstores and clothing shops.
Very big mall to shopping before leaving Japan. Apple pay everywhere. Tax Refund very fast.
Nt C — Google review
Mall with a little bit of everything where a lot hotels have free buses that come here. I took pictures of some of the products in the mall that I thought were cool or that I tried. The supermarket is really good, some of the hobby stores are good, some of the dessert or smoothie stores are good, but the food in the food court was bad. There was also a cat cafe which I liked too.
Allen L — Google review
There’s a bus from the station that takes you straight here ,super convenient. It’s quite a large supermarket and a nice place to shop around.
Emily T — Google review
Nice big mall with a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and a supermarket. Great place to spend time if you’re waiting for a flight or just want to shop around. It’s clean, spacious, and easy to walk through without feeling cramped. Plenty of food options and even some local specialties to try. Convenient spot with everything you need in one place.
Val T — Google review
There’s quite a few stores at the top floor, the food court section. Enjoyed this bowl for only ¥750. ✅ individual table available(with transparent dividers) ✅ free water ✅ charging port
Julien G — Google review
The mall has free wifi and a supermarket inside. There is a big food court with a lot of variety from burgers to Japanese cuisine and also a halal restaurant. Plenty of shops for casual shopping. They have an arcade area as well and it's quite fun!
Ali S — Google review
The mall was rather old and lack of cafeteria. The food court was huge but not convenient to rest. Typical Aeon mall design.
Chiang — Google review
My favorite mall chain in Japan! ✨✨ There’s many stores inside the mall like 3coins, Daiso, Bookoff, Jins glasses, and many more but favorite is shopping in Aeon Style and their grocery store. Aeon Style has everything from cosmetics, grocery, luggages, home goods, baby items, toys, clothes and many more! I can spend a whole day here and I always want to go back whenever I stay in Narita 😅 This Aeon Mall branch in Narita also has a cute restroom theme collab with the NRT mascot and Hello Kitty~

Nature & Parks
Sakuranoyama Park, also known as Cherry Blossom Mountain Park, is a popular spot for both plane spotting and enjoying the beauty of cherry blossoms. Located near Narita International Airport in Narita City, this public park offers a unique experience of watching departing and arriving planes from close proximity due to its hillside location overlooking the airport runway. During the spring season from late March to early April, visitors can witness the stunning sight of airplanes passing through vibrant cherry blossom trees.
It is a beautiful Sakura and plane spotting place! It is very spacious compared to those popular Sakura places in Tokyo. The traffic got really busy as they got limited parking lots there. If you take bus to get there, please remember to check the schedule ahead as they only get around 1 bus per hour, or even less in afternoon and evening. Also, there is no proper sidewalk in some sections on the way to Sakuranoyama from bus stop, just be aware of that.
Isa L — Google review
A nice place to take a seat and chill (while watching the planes). There is also a restaurant and a food market with souvenirs too. There are also some toilets nearby and a bus stop. Photos taken during early April.
Antoni N — Google review
A nice park located near the end of the NRT airport runway, so it's a good spot to watch planes taking off and roaring above you. Getting there with public transit with a tight schedule can be a challenge as local bus schedule is sparse. I took a cab to get there from NRT airport in the morning (¥1800) and took the 12:30pm bus back to the airport (¥210) for my afternoon flight.
Shirley P — Google review
My first day my first cherry blossom experience. It's just a hole in the ground really in between a railway line and the airport. The tranquility is frequently interrupted by planes flying over or trains rumbling past. Many locals there just a photograph the planes flying over. Beautiful place and people and trees I loved it
Mike O — Google review
Beautiful park to view the many cherry blossoms in full bloom, with a few takeout restaurants nearby, free parking and toilets as well. You can also see the planes taking off and landing at the Narita Airport from the park.
Stephanie D — Google review
We arrived at the park few days before sakura bloom, so the flowers are not yet fully bloomed but the area is gorgeous specially when planes are taking off to fly, a wonderful experience for me.
Chi C — Google review
Walking from Marroad Hotel was like risking your life. Quite a dangerous walking path due to the busy roads. The park was nice. Good view to the greenery. A very nice roomy cafe. Good coffee. Nice staff.
Ali N — Google review
Peaceful and amazing, you’ll see airplanes taking off or landing between the top of the branches of the Sakura trees. It’s a 15 minutes ride by car from Narita airport, recommended place if you have a layover of more than 5 or 6 hours 💖

5Naritasan Omotesando

4.5

Mentioned on
8 lists
Naritasan Omotesando is a charming street that reflects the rich food culture and history of Narita. Known as 'a town of the Freshwater eel,' it gained popularity during the Edo era for its eel dishes, which are still offered in many restaurants along the Omotesando of Naritasan Shinshoji Temple.
Stepping Back in Time on Naritasan Omotesando We decided to explore Narita town upon arrival at Narita Airport on 30 July 2025, before heading to our rented apartments in Machiya, Central Tokyo. It turned out to be a perfect choice — a gentle immersion into Japan’s history and culture before the buzz of the capital. We took this street unintentionally when walking towards Naritasan Shinshoji from the station, and it felt like stumbling into a living postcard from another era. Naritasan Omotesando stretched out ahead — an 800-meter slope lined with Edo- and Meiji-era wooden shopfronts, each with its own story. Here, time seemed to slow. Shop signs were hand-painted, noren curtains swayed in the breeze, and the air carried a faint scent of soy glaze and grilled eel. Narita’s fame for unagi dates back centuries, and we saw it in action — chefs deftly cleaning live eels right at the storefront, just as they have done for pilgrims visiting Naritasan Shinshoji Temple since the Edo period. Watching it felt like witnessing a craft handed down unchanged through generations. The street itself was once the main pilgrimage route to the temple, and the sense of purpose lingers. Inns, teahouses, and sweet shops once catered to travelers on foot; today, they welcome visitors from around the world while preserving the same warmth and rhythm. The architecture tells its own story — dark timber, tiled roofs, and sliding windows that have looked out on hundreds of years of footsteps. Every few steps offered a glimpse into another era: a traditional sweets shop selling monaka wafers filled with sweet bean paste, a lantern-lit alley leading to a hidden garden, an old merchant’s house repurposed as a crafts store. It was history you could touch, smell, and taste. By the time we reached the temple gates, the modern world felt far away. Naritasan Omotesando wasn’t just a walk — it was a journey through Japan’s cultural memory, one that made our first hours in the country unforgettable.
Azmi M — Google review
Came here on a weekend in the first week of November 2024. It was noon and walking from the train station through the heavy crowds heading to this place was challenging (if you don't like crowded areas that is); but what made it fun was exploring the eateries and souvenir stores along the way. The temple itself is a special place for many people.
Khal E — Google review
Visited in Nov 2023. We arrived on an early flight via Narita Airport, stored our luggage there & took a short train ride to Narita City. The vibe of this street, from JR Narita to Naritasan Temple, is very much like a less congested version of Nannenzaka slope to Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto. Except it slopes downwards to the temple. There are shops, restaurants & cafes on both sides of the street. This town is famous for unagi but there are also many shops selling snacks & pastries. Keep an eye out for the charming animal statues along the entire length of this street. Be aware the road is open to vehicles. There are some kimono rental shops, allowing for a quick few hours of photoshoots against the background of traditional buildings & the main temple itself.
Kum W — Google review
This is a popular tourist spot for local people. Easily accessible from either JR Narita Station or Local Metro Line. Both sides of the street are full of pedestrian, traditional shops, either souvenirs or local gourmet are so attractive. We finally had an eel rice lunch and back to the international airport for departure. A wonderful short stay and perfect finish of the journey!
Brandon K — Google review
While it is the main tourist attraction in nareta I thought it was a bit overhyped. There are a lot of cool little shops on the street though many of them only open on select days. I tried a few of their restaurants and they were pretty good. The temple shrine is kind of average though it was nice to see some ancient architecture on the street. If you’re in the city come take a look but I wouldn’t make a special trip out here to come if it’s not convenient.
Allen L — Google review
Walking along Naritasan Omotesando was a delightful lead-up to the majestic Naritasan Temple. The street itself is lined with charming traditional shops and eateries, but the real highlight was reaching the temple’s grand main gate.

One must visit place when you're around Narita. Only one station away from Narita Airport. Make your time to the temple. Don't rush, enjoy every corner, it's beautiful. And must try the Unagi.

My favorite place to visit if I have a late flight out of Narita. I love the Edo period buildings, beautiful temple and the range of restaurants and souvenir stores around the area. It's so convenient just being 2 stops away from the airport but offers so much.

International airport
Airport
Narita International Airport is a major airport serving the Tokyo area, with direct rail access to the city. Travelers can easily reach central Tokyo using the JR Pass, which is also convenient for exploring popular tourist spots within Tokyo. Narita City, home to the airport, is a hub connecting Tokyo with the world and offers attractions such as ancient temples and nearby historical towns. Visitors with limited time or layovers can explore these nearby attractions easily accessible from the airport.
Well organized airport that’s easy to navigate. Check-in and security are usually smooth and the staff are helpful. There are plenty of shops and restaurants inside so waiting for your flight isn’t boring. Facilities are clean and comfortable, and the transportation options to and from Tokyo are very convenient. Overall a good airport experience whether you’re arriving or departing.
Val T — Google review
One of the best airports worldwide. Comfortable seating. Tax free shops. Clean and comfortable toilets. Appreciated the Pokémon store and the many food options. Excellent boarding experience. The vending machines sell drinks at the same price you would find them outside the airport.
Vasiliki M — Google review
Narita International Airport truly lives up to Japan’s reputation for efficiency and hospitality. From the moment I arrived, the staff were polite, helpful, and always ready to assist. The entire airport is clean, well organized, and easy to navigate, even for first-time travelers. Security and immigration processes were handled smoothly, with clear signs in multiple languages guiding passengers every step of the way. The waiting lounges are comfortable, and the wide selection of shops and restaurants makes any layover enjoyable. What stood out most was the calm atmosphere and the thoughtful touches everywhere—from spotless restrooms to convenient charging stations and reliable free Wi-Fi. Transportation options to and from Tokyo are also very convenient, with express trains and airport buses that run on time. Overall, Narita Airport offers a world-class travel experience that reflects the warmth and precision of Japanese culture. I would gladly travel through Narita again.
Aldrich L — Google review
Had a layover at Narita Airport, and the experience was smoother than I expected for such a busy international hub. One thing I really appreciated was not having to go through security again when transferring from one flight to another, which made the connection much less stressful. Maybe that’s more of a Japan airport standard, but either way, it made the layover feel a lot easier. The airport was very busy, but it still felt organized, with staff directing people efficiently. The ceilings throughout the terminal were noticeably low, and after a long international flight, it added a bit of a claustrophobic feeling as I moved through the corridors. Restrooms were extremely clean. It was much cleaner than most airports I’ve been to. I also liked the kiosks where you could ask questions in English, which were clearly marked and easy to find. Signage overall was solid, and even with the crowds, I didn’t have much trouble finding my connecting gate. The only downside is that gates seem to change frequently, so it’s important to keep an eye on the monitors. Seating areas were fine but filled up quickly due to the constant flow of passengers. Overall, Narita is busy and a bit tight in certain areas, but the efficiency and cleanliness make the layover experience manageable. Efficient: Yes First-Time Friendliness: Yes Would I Return: Yes JY review
Jason L — Google review
Amazing airport. As a tourist, I found my experience here very well accommodated for. Staff were very hospitable and reliable. Airport is very easy to navigate with information desks scattered all over the terminals in multiple languages. There are convenient bus links right outside the arrivals gate that go to Tokyo station for a very affordable price. In addition, a 7eleven atm that is compatible with most western foreign master and visa cards to withdraw yen as cash. Lots of shopping options available for last minute gifts. Departing can be a bit tricky. There are 3 terminals and can ask the staff or read the electronic display to know which flight your flight is leaving from. Terminal 1 isn't attached to terminal 2 and 3, so consider coming 30min earlier in addition to the 3 hours in case your flight departs from terminal 1. Narita airport is very efficient and well thought out. Only recommendation would be more online resources available in multiple languages for foreign visitors to learn how the buses work before their travel as most bus workers weren't fluent in English when attempting to help. Highly recommend Visit Japan Web for foreigners to get the QR code for express entry. The government has been doing an amazing job helping as visitors feel welcome.

Narita Airport, officially known as Narita International Airport (NRT), is one of Japan’s busiest airports, located in Narita, Chiba Prefecture, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) northeast of central Tokyo. It serves as a major hub for international flights to and from Japan. Narita Airport has three terminals: 1. Terminal 1 • International Flights: Primarily for international carriers. • Facilities: It is the largest terminal and houses numerous amenities like shopping, dining, and duty-free stores. The terminal is divided into North Wing and South Wing and is home to major airlines like Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA), as well as other international airlines. • Transportation: You can easily reach the terminal from the airport’s train station, and there are numerous buses, taxis, and shuttle services that connect Terminal 1 with other parts of the airport and Tokyo. 2. Terminal 2 • International and Domestic Flights: This terminal serves both international and domestic flights, with a strong emphasis on international airlines, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Air Canada, as well as Japan’s ANA. • Facilities: Terminal 2 is known for its spacious layout and more relaxed atmosphere compared to Terminal 1. You’ll find an array of food and shopping options, as well as relaxation zones. • Transportation: Terminal 2 is also well connected by buses and trains. It’s often considered slightly less crowded than Terminal 1. 3. Terminal 3 • Low-Cost Carriers: Terminal 3 is dedicated to low-cost carriers (LCCs), such as Peach Aviation, Vanilla Air, and other regional airlines. It was built in 2015 to accommodate the growing demand from budget airlines flying into Japan. • Facilities: While Terminal 3 is smaller and more basic than the other two terminals, it offers essential services like food stalls, retail shops, and free Wi-Fi. Despite its simplicity, it has a modern design and efficient layout. • Transportation: There is a shuttle bus service that connects Terminal 3 with the other terminals and the rest of the airport. Connecting Between Terminals: The terminals are connected by free shuttle buses that run regularly, and you can also walk between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 (about a 10-minute walk). However, if you’re flying internationally, you’ll likely need to go through security and customs when transferring between terminals.

It's a busy time with a lot of tour groups from China and Korea, so it's chaotic both on arrival and departure. You'll have to walk quite a distance to find your gate. If you want to buy branded products, I recommend buying them from an outlet or department store, so you don't miss out on the opportunity. If you buy them at the airport, you might miss out on the opportunity.

Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple is a renowned Buddhist temple complex in the Kanto region, dating back to 940. It attracts both local devotees and international travelers, especially during the New Year period. The complex includes various buildings, including two pagodas and offers free guided walking tours. Situated just a short train ride from Narita Airport, it's an ideal stop for those with layovers seeking an authentic taste of traditional Japan.
Beautiful and peaceful temple with a lot of history. The grounds are spacious with stunning traditional architecture and well kept gardens. It’s a nice place to just walk around, pray, or take photos. The atmosphere feels calm even if there are a lot of visitors. Easy to reach from Narita station and definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Our visit to Naritasan Shinshoji Temple was truly unforgettable. Founded in 940 AD and dedicated to Fudō Myōō, this historic temple remains one of the most significant spiritual sites in the Kanto region. We collected all six goshuins and visited the key landmarks—the Niomon Gate, Three-Storied Pagoda, Main Hall (Daihondo), Shakado, Komyodo, and the Great Pagoda of Peace (Heiwa no Daito). Each had its own charm and peaceful atmosphere. It was quite hot during our visit, so we really appreciated the free water and tea station, plus the rest area to cool down. There were also multiple comfort rooms and even elevators, which made the visit so much more comfortable. A beautiful blend of history, spirituality, and thoughtful hospitality—highly recommended!

We visited Naritasan Shinsho-ji on our last day in Japan and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed at the Richmond Hotel, which is super convenient, just a short walk from Narita Station and very close to this famous temple. This temple is probably the largest we visited during our trip, and we couldn’t believe such a hidden gem exists in Narita. and its free. We arrived around 8 AM, so it was peaceful and quiet, with hardly anyone around. The gardens are huge and beautifully maintained, perfect for a calm stroll and photography. The story behind the temple: Naritasan Shinsho-ji was founded in 940 AD to enshrine Fudō Myō‑ō, a protective deity in Shingon Buddhism. Legend says that during a rebellion in the Kantō region, the statue of Fudō was brought to the battlefield and, after the victory, couldn’t be moved , so the temple was built there. Over centuries it grew into a major religious site, with historic buildings, gates, and pagodas that are Important Cultural Properties of Japan. The temple is also known for its goma fire rituals, which symbolize purification, and the serene mountain gardens reflect centuries of devotion and harmony with nature. Tips for visitors: - Arrive early if you want a quiet experience. - Wear comfortable walking shoes, the grounds are large. - Explore the gardens and take time to notice the historical buildings. - Perfect for photography, reflection, or simply enjoying a peaceful temple atmosphere. Overall, an amazing hidden gem that exceeded our expectations. A must-visit if you’re in Narita — rich in history, culture, and natural beauty!

We were absolutely fascinated by this beautiful temple, located not far from Narita Airport. It’s a peaceful and impressive place that gives visitors a wonderful glimpse into Japanese culture and tradition. A very special compliment goes to the hardworking ladies who keep the restrooms exceptionally clean. Their dedication and attention to detail are truly admirable. The management can be proud to have such committed people on their team — I sincerely hope they receive the recognition and bonus they deserve. Thank you for maintaining such a wonderful and welcoming environment.

Very beautiful old temple in Narita Japan. It is sacred for granting good luck in one's career. The atmosphere is peaceful. If you have the chance, don't miss it. It is worth coming to see at least once.
Kittipong P — Google review
captivating destination—rich in history, spiritual rituals (like the goma fire ceremonies), traditional architecture, and peaceful garden paths. It’s best enjoyed as a cultural and contemplative experience. If you’re seeking active play areas or picnic setups, the adjacent Naritasan Park (behind the temple grounds) offers more in the way of natural scenery, open lawns, and relaxing gardens.

The first temple I visited in Japan and now that I have visited many others, I can say it’s still one of my favourites. You are able to walk around and every time I am in Narita for business or leisure, it’s a must for me to visit!

Located just a 15-minute bus ride from Narita International Airport, Shisui Premium Outlets is a shopper's paradise with over 180 shops offering global apparel and footwear brands at discounted prices. This makes it an ideal spot for travelers with layovers or some time to spare before their flights. The outlet boasts popular stores found in Tokyo's main shopping districts like Ginza and Shibuya, making it a convenient stop for international tourists looking to shop for both domestic and world-famous fashion brands.
Regardless of the many shops inside that may or may not cater to your taste, this is a proper outlet. Spacious parking lot, huge floor space, kids friendly, pets friendly, a food court with highly respectable tenants, and easy access to and from JR train station and also using a paid shuttle bus to and from Narita station. All busses can easily carry your big suitcases. I would recommend at least 3 to 4 hours here before continuing your journey. They also have paid coin lockers of all sizes and clean toilets in every corner. Playgrounds for children are available in several spots.

Only 15 mins from Narita Airport by shuttle bus Go to Terminal 2 bus stop no.3 The buses leave every 30 mins and the last bus to come back to airport is around 5.40pm The outlet is old but still has many branded shops like Boss and Coach Great for last min shopping if you have 3 hours to spare before checking in

Shisui Premium Outlets is near the Narita International Airport. So this is our choice of shopping location when we are waiting for more Family members to join us on our Japan trip. The Shisui Premium Outlets are not very big. It has many famous brand-name outlet stores there. However, not too many luxury brands have their outlet stores in this outlet. The outlet mall is situated in a prime location with excellent management. I saw the security guards in the parking lot and in the public areas. The shopping center is well-maintained. The whole shopping mall still looks very good. This is a perfect place for shopping if you have more time before your flight.

It wasn't busy when I went there so it was great. I got there by a direct bus from Tokyo station for 1300 yen then took a bus to Narita airport for 500 yen which took 15 minutes. So I highly recommend here for your last day in Japan. Food court was good as well as some restaurants are there too. They don't have luxury brands but heaps of brands are there like Kate Spade, coach, just a regular Japanese outlet mall.

This outlet is quite large and offers a wide selection of premium brands. The food court is also excellent, with halal choices available. I was pleased to find that it wasn't too crowded, which made shopping here a delightful experience.

The place was our end-of-trip highlight in early July, 2015. After we had checked in our baggage at the Narita Airport, we took the Outlet shuttle there. My daughters bought to their hearts' content and I got a branded jacket at a discount price before rushing back to the Airport to take our departing flight! Postscript On April 10, 2024, I drove my wife here. Parking was easy. She bought items with price down. Otherwise, why bother coming here?

Such a lovely scenic area to have an onsen, especially once the weather starts to cool down a bit. I loved the different pools which you could use, and when I went (just before 5pm), it was practically empty! I was quite confused at first, but the locker key is within the wristband that they give you with the number on it. The showers are also outside and are on every floor, so you dont have to worry (I spent quite a lot of time looking for one around the changing room!) I recommend that you bring your own small towel (or buy one there as a souvenir), and DEFINITELY bring body lotion/moisturiser as it can get quite drying from the hot water! People also usually bring water bottles in as to remain hydrated, and even books for entertainment if you’re a solo traveller! Dont make the same mistakes I did 😖 There are also lovely areas to relax after your onsen outside the locker rooms which was quite serene.

I'd never been to Japan and had no idea what this would be like, but it was amazing! The walk from the train was a bit long but totally worth it, and truthfully was great to just put your phone away and enjoy the experience, everyone minding their business and doing their thing. Highly recommend and would go back when I return.

3 floors of inside and outside baths. Different temperatures and also different minerals by the look. There’s places to rest and relax outside in the sun. Showers are located on each floor. The top floor has a cold plunge pool, sauna and hot bed area as well as an inside bath with spa area. Second floor has an inside and outside bath and many showers. Also a couple of outside chairs to relax. First floor has 2 showers and a plunge pool, spa and outdoor area for relaxing. Can be hard to access as the directions state if you take the train you can get off at the station before and take a taxi from the taxi rank, but the taxis are not there waiting and none passed. I ended up getting back on the train and getting off at the nearest station, it’s then a good 20 min walk to the baths on a flat road. But the road is narrow and no actual footpath. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and ordered the taxi for me to take back to the main train, only 10 min away. I had wanted to eat at the restaurant but it was closed on the day that I went. I would go again, but try to pre order a taxi before I left on the train.

Amazing place.. you can book a private room to have private bath and also a meal. Foods are delicious. We also experienced body therapy massage. I definitely recommend massage too. You can also use public bath which is also very clean and nice. The only challange was the language barrier. However, all staff was very helpful and did their best to understand our needs. Best spa near Narita Airport!

The most affordable line going to Ueno and Narita Airport. Keisei-Narita Station, opened on April 25, 1930, is a passenger railway station in Narita, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It's operated by Keisei Electric Railway and is within walking distance of the JR East Narita Station. The station is a gateway to Narita International Airport and provides access to central Tokyo via the Keisei Skyliner. The Keisei Skyliner offers a quick and comfortable ride to Nippori Station and Ueno in downtown Tokyo. The train is clean and efficient, with spacious, reserved seating and dedicated luggage space. The large windows offer excellent views of the countryside and the Tokyo suburbs.

A nice little station located right across JR Narita station. It's a good transit point for you heading to the Narita airport or Ueno station in Tokyo. Be aware that you have to move to the platform across using stairs after the entrance if you're heading towards the city, while you can immediately wait on the platform if you're heading to the airport. The ticket cost you ¥280 to Narita airport T2/3 & T1, there's a small discount if you pay using your IC card.
Bayu U — Google review
Helpful staff assisted us in getting from Narita to Tokyo center. The rapid train gets you to central Tokyo within an hour. It's 9 stations to Nippori, covering approximately 60 km. The cost is about $6 USD per person. Highly recommended option for travelers. Note: cash only to get the train ticket!

Keisei Narita Station is a convenient hub, although it's important to note that the ticket machines on the Keisei Line do not accept credit cards. Fortunately, the woman behind the counter was incredibly kind and understanding when I explained that I didn't have any cash. She gave me thoughtful and detailed advice, suggesting alternative routes and recommending nearby convenience stores where I could avoid ATM fees. Her helpfulness made my experience much smoother and I really appreciated the personal attention.

I stayed here for my holiday, because it's near the airport and there are many hotels around this station. The price is cheaper for a small hotel room here so I don't need to live in a capsule in Tokyo. The station is OK for a daily commute with a backpack, but there are no escalators for my luggage when I move to the hotel.

A Sunflower Paradise at Narita Yume Bokujō Visiting Narita Yume Bokujō in the first week of August was an enchanting experience. The farm boasts two distinct sunflower fields. The first, adorned with shorter sunflowers, was nearing the end of its season with many having dried up. However, the second field, filled with tall sunflowers, was a sight to behold. The vibrant yellow petals against the clear blue sky created a picturesque scenery that left an indelible mark on my memory. For those wishing to immerse themselves in the tall sunflower field, there's a nominal entrance fee of 300 yen. The best part? You can re-enter as many times as you'd like throughout the day. The farm itself has an entrance fee, but it's well worth it. Not only are you greeted with a plethora of handmade products, but there's also a delightful array of food options. From scrumptious pizzas to delectable desserts, there's something for every palate. A special mention goes to the sunflower genjer ail, a unique and tasty treat that's a must-try. Narita Yume Bokujō is a family-oriented destination, offering a range of activities that both kids and adults can enjoy. Whether you're a sunflower enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out, this farm has something for everyone. There are multiple shops to buy souvenir, plushie, food, and other items to remember the trip. A few practical tips: there's ample parking available, making it convenient for those driving down. However, having a car is essential as the farm is a bit secluded.

It states closing at 4.30pm but practically nothing else to do when we were here at 3.30pm…can’t even pet the rabbits and we can’t even look at the petting area. They should state closing time at 3pm if the special activities ends around 2pm. So people will not think to pay 1,600 yen or 1,000yen for parking. Drove all the way there but felt like a scam, if you keep everything and close activities at 2-2.30pm, why tell people you are open till 4.30pm?

Fun place with the kids. Went there when sakuras were blooming to it looked spectacular. We recommend to pay extra unlimited pass at 1,500 yen because there are several fun activities specially for kids such as bicycle riding, fishing, archery, short train ride and so on. Each of these activities cost 500 yen so just joining at least 3 makes it worth it already. We ended up just letting the kids have the ticket because activities were more applicable for kids. It is fun to do it together as well. There are a lot of other fun activities that doesn't have fees, some might need early reservations such as feeding small animals and milking cows so better get those (free) tickets when you enter the park. Ither than that the soft ice cream tasted heavenly so it is a must try.

Unagi restaurant
Surugaya is a relaxed and typical unagi restaurant located on Omotesando, the main street of the town. It serves a variety of eel dishes cooked on charcoal, including skewered eel fillets broiled in sweet soy sauce. The restaurant does its prepping right on the street to ensure fresh products, which can be an impressive sight for visitors. While witnessing the butchering of eels may not be for everyone, it showcases mastery and dedication to craft.
Memorable lunch! We were seated in a traditional tatami room! Had the special eel kabayaki that was wonderfully flavored and the eel soup was amazing! The green tea that is included in the menu was very good! Because the place is in high demand we had to wait 20-30 minutes after we were seated before our lunch arrived! Attentive staff!

This eel restaurant is famous and popular. There is usually a long line and you need to get a number first. You can get a number and visit the temple nearby or you can order a to-go bento to save some time. We ordered one grilled eel over rice with sauce and another grilled eel without sauce. Definitely recommend the one with sauce. The fish skin is crispy and the fish meat is tender. There is just the right amount of sauce. Not too sweet or too greasy.

This is my 2nd time eating here after 10 years. The taste is still just as good as I remembered and the Japanese service is impeccable as always. Generally roasted eel are delicious but I don’t like to eat due to the numerous soft bones. But Surugaya have live eels in house and they are caught, filleted and roasted as you order them. The freshness is unparalleled and the bones are very soft, easily chewed and swallowed. The wait time for a table attest to the popularity and deliciousness of this restaurant.

Our last meal of the trip was exquisite and it was concluded Narita which is known for its unagi and I’m so glad we woke up early to get a queue number to have it. The shop was giving out queue numbers early - we got ours at 9.53am and were given no. 51 and told to come back at 10.30am for our table. The streets were really nice to explore anyway so we had not problem waiting! When we went back we were greeted by well dressed ladies into a cosy restaurant. I had the regular unaju (うな重), my partner had the specially selected grilled eel 「特選」銘柄鰻うな重 だし and we shared a dashimaki tamago. The unagi is so soft, perfectly grilled at their grill that’s extended from the shop and it tasted very fresh with a delicious glaze. Each set comes with tea, pickles and eel liver soup. Tamago was bouncy and wonderfully layered. It’s a must if you’re in Narita!

I also went back before going to Naritasan Shinshoji Temple because it wasn't actually on Omotesando Street, so I rushed to get there before it closed. Yokan fortune telling looks interesting too. You can go up to the second floor and learn about the history of yokan. When I was little, I was nostalgic for the canned yokan that I received as a mid-year gift, and I remembered when I was trying to decide which flavor to try. Now, there are also stylish yokan, so I bought some as a souvenir. On the second floor, there are exhibits such as a portrait of the rice store founder Chozo Old Man, a reconstruction of his room, the history of yokan, an exhibition of Japan's main types of yokan, and tools for making yokan. Narita Station is conveniently located just under 10 minutes by train from the airport, making it a great area to explore and enjoy the offerings of Narita town. The station is in close proximity to Naritasan Shinshoji temple, where visitors can stroll through restaurants and souvenir shops, some of which specialize in Unagi (eel) dishes.
Some Narita Express trains stop from this station going to Shinjuku, Tokyo and Ofuna. This is station to use when going to Narita Yume Bokujo. There are a number of coin lockers and noodle shops around the area and a convenience store right in front of the station electric gates.

No stairs. If you have a lot of luggage or heavy bags and travel early in the morning, this sta will give you a workout. There are no working elevators or escalators at the west exit. Lug your bags up the stairs yourself. Or navigate your way thru the bike parking. Ridiculous.

The closes station to Naritasan Shinshoji temple. If you walk from this station to the temple, you can see some restaurants and souvenir shops. Somehow they have a lot of Unagi around the area. If your lucky, you can see how they "prepare" them. The station itself is pretty alright. Not big, but not small either.

Kawatoyo Narita is a renowned restaurant in Narita, Japan that specializes in serving delicious unadon bowls of grilled eel and rice. The establishment offers both Japanese and Western seating options, allowing guests to enjoy their meal in a comfortable setting. One unique aspect of this restaurant is the opportunity to watch the skilled chef prepare the dish right before your eyes, adding an interactive element to the dining experience.
This was a great experience. The service was great, the staff was very helpful despite the language barrier. If you sit on the 2 floor, you will have to remove your shoes and sit on pillows. It was a great experience. The eel was fresh and delicious. I would eat here everytime I visit Narita.
Marlon B — Google review
My wife and I stopped by Kawatoyo after visiting Naritasan Temple and were captivated from the start — watching the chefs expertly prepare live eel right at the storefront was an incredible sight. Inside, the atmosphere felt warm and traditional, filled with the aroma of charcoal-grilled unagi. We ordered the unajū set, featuring perfectly grilled eel glazed with a rich, savory-sweet tare sauce over fluffy rice, served with pickles and clear soup. Every bite was outstanding — tender, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. Excellent service and authentic charm made it a memorable dining experience we’d highly recommend.

I made the pilgrimage to the Kawatoyo Main Store in Narita for their famous Unagi Donburi, and it was absolutely worth the journey. The experience begins right at the entrance, where you can watch skilled chefs preparing the eel—from cleaning it fresh to basting and grilling it over the fire. This performance perfectly sets the tone for the traditional meal. The restaurant was understandably crowded, and service felt a bit hectic due to the number of guests. But once the Unagi Donburi arrived, all that faded away. The eel was sensational—so soft and delicate that it melted in my mouth like castella cake. The savory, slightly salty sauce soaked into the rice created pure heaven.

Beat unagi in the world. Yes, we can find good freshly grilled unagi anywhere in the world. But this one is so good - no ashes on the fresh, crispy on the outside without ashes or bad burnt, not too sweet, fresh and soft in the inside. Excellently grilled and made. Expect 40 min wait but they are systematically. Take a queue no and go shopping and come back

All great- food, service, staff, ambience! It’s one of the oldest traditional restaurants in the area, founded in 1910. Freshwater eel over rice (with its special sauce) is their specialty, both locals and tourists fan over this dish- though pricey, it’s worth the taste!

some of the best unagi i’ve had! be prepared to wait 1h+ for a table but feel free to walk around while you wait. the eel was fresh, perfectly cooked and flavorful. the eel sashimi was also tasty and something i’ve never tried before.
Andrea S — Google review
Kawatoyo Narita is definitely worth a visit! The eel was perfectly grilled—tender, flavorful, and with that delicious smoky aroma. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and kid-friendly, making it great for families or groups. The 1st floor offers regular table seating, while the 2nd floor has traditional tatami dining for a more authentic experience. On the ground floor, you can watch the chefs skillfully clean and prepare the eel—it’s fascinating to see their craftsmanship up close. They also have a take-out counter if you’d like to bring some home. The menu is on a tablet, which is super convenient and easy to navigate, complete with clear photos and descriptions of each dish. Overall, it’s a great mix of tradition, flavor, and warm hospitality. Highly recommended!
Jane G — Google review
The eel is fresh and soft, not like other restaurants the sauce is very sweet. For me the taste is light, if you after heavy flavour you might need to put more soy sauce. I noticed if your seats is upstairs or not a table, you need to take off your shoes. Staff will give you plastic bag to put your shoes which I found not very environmental friendly. Too much plastic waste, unless you take the used plastic for other use.

Unagi restaurant
Kikuya is a historic Japanese restaurant located near Kawatoyo, boasting over a century of tradition. While renowned for its signature Unagi Ju (grilled eel over rice), the establishment also offers an array of set meals such as donburi, tempura, and shrimp fry, catering to diverse culinary preferences. Local patrons highly recommend Kikuya for its exceptional unagi and delightful dining experience.
Just right amount of char broiling. Its aroma, bite, textures and tastes were exquisitely balanced. It did not need an extra eel sauce nor any garnishment. It brought me a joy of eating an eel again after 15 years of abstinence. I will visit once a week to try other offerings in future.

Kikuyu holds a special place in my heart for me. Several years ago during my first trip to Narita, I originally tried to dine at a different unagi restaurant down the street. No one would even greet me or acknowledge my presence. So I wandered further up the street and came across Kikuya. The nice lady at the doorway motioned me inside when she saw me looking at the menu. I remember the service and food being very good. So this year (2025) I returned to Narita and had to visit Kikuya once again. I am pleased to report the food and hospitality are just as good. My food came out piping hot within just a few minutes of ordering. This place may not have the lines of some of the other unagi restaurants, but I can’t imagine they’re any better. Give this place a try when you’re in Narita!

(Translated by Google) There is a cycling road around the swamp, but it is so narrow that it is dangerous to ride it with a road racer. In the end, you will have to be careful of pedestrians and light vehicles as you drive. Also, this cycling road is not ``above'' the levee, but ``outside'' it, so the view tends to be monotonous. If your goal is to take a walk or sightsee, we recommend incorporating a hill overlooking this swamp into your course. (Translated by Google) Sakura Makata Shrine is a shrine located in Kaburagicho, Sakura City, about 800m southwest of Keisei Sakura Station. The old company rank was Gosha. Commonly known as Makata-sama. It is one of the 18 shrines enshrined on the south bank of Hokuso Inba Marsh, from Yachiyo City to Narita City, and is the general guardian of the Sakura Domain. Chiba Prefecture has been a hemp production area since ancient times, and the ``so'' in ``Fusanokuni'' represents hemp. Before the establishment of Shimousa Province, the Inba region was part of Inba Province, and Kunizo was sent there by the Imperial Court. Toshimitsu Ito, a member of the Kunizo clan, was appointed as the Kunizo, and our company has been enshrined by that Kunizo for generations. The name of the shrine can be read as ``A shrine of the gods celebrated by many clans in the land of hemp.'' The shrine that bears the name ``Magata Shrine'' is a fairly rare shrine that is located only around Inba in Japan. Currently, around 30 Makata shrines can be found, including 18 shrines called Makata 18 Shrines (Inba 18 Magata). In the Edo period, Toshikatsu Doi built Sakura Castle to the west of the shrine, and after becoming the lord of the castle, the shrine was not only the guardian deity of this region, but also was deeply revered by successive generations of castle lords and vassals as the god of protection of the castle grounds and overall protection of the Sakura domain, as the shrine was enshrined near the Otemon gate of the castle. The current shrine building was rebuilt after 1843 by Masayoshi Hotta, the feudal lord who served as the head of the shogunate. After the Meiji Restoration, an army regiment was stationed at the Sakura Castle ruins, and Kenji Boso, who enlisted from all over Chiba Prefecture, prayed for good fortune and longevity. The deity enshrined is ``Wakamusubi no Mikoto,'' the deity that governs silkworms, mulberries, and grains. He is said to be the child of Izanami no Mikoto, or the son of Hinokagutsuchinokami, who was born to Izanami no Mikoto. By the way, the child of Chisan Reimichi is Toyoukehimenokami, the god of agriculture who controls food and grains. It has the divine virtue of connecting and nurturing all things, and many people visit here to pray for blessings such as fulfillment in love, safe childbirth, protection of health, and business development. The large precincts of 1,235 tsubos have a main shrine, a shrine, a worship hall, and a shrine office, and four other shrines are enshrined within the precincts, including Inari Shrine. It is also surrounded by old trees and large trees, including a large ginkgo tree that is over 800 years old. The ``Reitaisai'' is held every October. The Great Mikoshi (a cultural property designated by Sakura City) is one of the largest portable shrines in use in Chiba Prefecture (with a platform wheel width of 5 shaku and 1.51 m).It is a luxurious large mikoshi that was built in 1721, in the middle of the Edo period, by calling in about 10 craftsmen from Edo, and spending 8 months and a large sum of money, about 360 ryo of gold coins at the time. Approximately 40 young parishioners (from the Kaburagi Youth Association) dressed in old-fashioned attire called Shiracho carried out the festival with chants of ``Farewell to the Myojin Festival!'' Dashi floats and shrines are pulled out from Honmachi Shinmei Shrine, Mirokucho Hachiman Shrine, and Tamachi Atago Shrine to the sound of lanterns and Sakura music, and the traditional festival of the castle town of Sakura unfolds. There are 7 floats (currently 2 floats), which were prepared in the Kanda area from the Edo period to the early Meiji period, and those wearing authentic Noh costumes such as those from Chikubujima and Ishibashi, as well as those of great valor such as Japan's Takeru and Kanu, ride on top. In Sakura, the stalls are called omisakesho because they are roof-shaped stalls where the carrying poles of shrine mikoshi are hung on the railings and sacred sake is offered to the various people. The name of the place where the shrine is located, Kaburagi, comes from the town of Kaburagi in Inba District, Shimousa Province, which was once located there. In 1889, Kaburagi Village, Sakura Town, Nabeyama Shinden, Oroja Village, and Masakado Town merged to form Sakura Town. In 1937, Sakura Town and Uchigo Village merged, and Sakura Town was re-established. In 1954, Sakura Town, Usui Town, Shizu Village, Nego Village, Yatomi Village, and Wada Village were newly established and merged, and Sakura City was established.

For those arriving by car, there's a parking lot along Route 296 that can accommodate about 15 cars. This shrine, the main guardian deity of the former Sakura domain, has long been affectionately known as "Makatasama," and there are about 18 Magata shrines in the surrounding area. The grounds are small, but you'll find cats and large votive plaques of cute girls on display. In addition, Fukurokuju, one of the Sakura Seven Lucky Gods, is enshrined to the right of the main shrine, and Ebisu to the left. This historic shrine is definitely worth stopping by if you're in Sakura. In the past, there weren't many places where you could buy big bags of sweets like Machioka, so I was really looking forward to coming here and buying big bags of sweets and fish. This time I moved and came back nearby, so I visited for the first time in several decades since I went there as a child. April 22nd is the event day. The function as a wholesale market will be relocated to Tenjinmine in Narita in 2022 as the Narita Public Wholesale Market, and the Kotsunomori Market will be abolished...? I thought so, but the outside market remained! The newly opened public market is quite far from my hometown even though it's in Narita city, so I'm really grateful that the market remained here, even just for the outside market. I went there for the first time in a while and it was pretty good, to be honest, it was pretty good, so I think this will be a place I want to go to regularly when there are events going on. I'm thinking of going again next month. The photo shows the fish, meat, and dried food that we purchased this time. Although I can't show it in the photo, I also bought a large bag of sweets. I didn't buy the pork tenderloin in the foreground of the photo, but my daughter bought it at a rattling lottery event (limited to 2 per person) where you can collect stamps of 1,500 yen from 3 stores and receive stamps for purchases of 500 yen or more at one store. I lost the tissue the first time, but I got it right the second time. The other photo is of a Pegasus candy that my daughter bought at Komi-chan's candy shop. 2024/3/9 event day My daughter won a lottery while shopping at the market, and this time she won another set of nerimono and other items. This is the third time I've won a cleaning kit at the end of the year. It's really amazing. Narita Airport and Community Historical Museum is located about 8km from Narita Interchange, showcasing the construction process of Narita Airport through primary materials and testimonies. The museum does not criticize any parties involved in the airport issue. It offers valuable insights into the history of Narita Airport and prompts visitors to contemplate various aspects related to its construction. Despite having a limited number of exhibits, it's a great place to spend an hour learning about this significant historical event.
No English signage unfortunately, but this is one of my favorite museums in Japan. You can learn about how local peasants reacted when the airport planners came to their rural village. The museum today stands as a monument to reconciliation and peace.

Materials on the farming that took place here before the construction of Narita Airport, the history of postwar development, trends in Japan from the 1960s to 1970s, the anti-Narita Airport protests, the control tower occupation incident, and the subsequent opening of the airport are on display. Helmets and Molotov cocktails used by the Atsuta faction of the opposition alliance are also on display. The staff are retired employees of Narita Airport, and they will give you detailed information if you ask them. There was opposition to another proposed site in Chiba, and so the Narita site, which at the time had a lot of government-owned land, was chosen for the construction. It was early July, and since it was a weekday, I was the only one there, so a staff member spoke to me and explained things to me. It was great to learn about the tragic history behind the construction of Japan's leading international airport. Why Narita? The reasons why supporters and opponents were divided, and the anguish and feelings each side carried. It was very clear how a war-like conflict broke out between the residents and the public corporation. I was moved to tears at the end when I saw the panels showing how the long conflict ended, reconciliation progressed, and how Narita is now coexisting with each other and building a bright future. This is a history museum that should be seen by as many people as possible, not just those who love airplanes and Narita Airport. There is a very easy-to-understand manga summarizing this history in the Asahi Lounge (Reference Room), so I also recommend it.

(Translated by Google) This is located on the grounds of the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences, but it is an independent facility that can be visited for free. The Narita Struggle... For me, who is 60 years old, it was a scene of domestic turmoil in my childhood... However, according to the materials in this museum, the history behind the Narita Struggle begins with understanding the feelings of the so-called pioneers, especially those who transplanted residents and developed the area immediately after the war. Then, in 1966 (when I was 2 years old), amid economic growth, the strain on Haneda Airport, and the prospect of a future international community, the airport plan, of which there were several proposals, suddenly fell on this land... Now, with three victims born and many other conditions in place, such as the government's promise not to use the Land Expropriation Act, the airport is operating almost normally, and the division between those in favor and those against has almost completely disappeared within the area, and coexistence is close to perfect, created by everyone in the area... The museum teaches us about the history up to that point in an easy-to-understand exhibit. In today's world, even the media, including political matters, tends to incite division, along with the internet society. Division may be inevitable as a social phenomenon, but we will have a tough road to coexistence. It will take time. But can we, the people and citizens of our nation, as parties involved in the division, reach coexistence without making some sacrifices along the way? By learning about the history of our ancestors' struggles, I feel we may be able to find clues and a path to overcoming modern-day division.

It’s super close to Narita station, temple, restaurants shopping and supermarket. Tatami room beds are good with wifi/ac and there are extra pillows in the basket if you need. Facilities are clean and a big common area which smells good with a soft music at the background. We definitely would book again if we have a transit at Narita airport.

This is such a fantastic guesthouse for airport travellers. Narita is also extremely underrated as a tourist spot and the guesthouse would be a great place to spend a couple of nights as a base for exploring the Narita-san complex and varied Omotesando offerings. I stayed in a private traditional style room with a separate shower, toilet and a really huge futon room that could comfortably fit three. The air con was great for the summer heat. The common room was spotless and the self check-in procedure was convenient to follow. I didn't meet any staff personally but they are doing a great job. I would love to come back and stay again.

Sushi Edokko is a must-visit near Narita International Airport, offering an exceptional sushi dining experience. The sushi is incredibly fresh and generously portioned at an affordable price. The Miso soup with huge tiger prawns is a standout. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, along with the well-crafted bamboo decor, adds to the overall experience. Customers praise the sashimi combination premium set, grilled crab, grilled salmon, and oyster dishes for their freshness and flavor.
This place was wonderful for a very quick lunch. My Sushi plates were served with salad and miso, both delicious. Food was fresh and interesting. Great flavor. Inexpensive and right next to the Narita train station and the Narita Hotel Bus Drop as well! Staff was polite and our waiter spoke good English which helped me very much. Very clean restaurant and bathroom. Overall a great place.

Great that they have set sushi menu as well as individual sushi for your specific cravings! The store accepts Apple Pay 💰 They also can help to split the bills up, just let them know before ordering. Sushi are thick in cuts and fresh! There is an option to opt out of the wasabi if you can’t take spicy. There are special offerings on the white board, but it is in Japanese. My tuna skewer with leak was from the whiteboard menu!

A sushi place with pretty good flavor — the fish was fresh, and the otoro and egg were the best. The prices might seem a bit high at first, but the sushi pieces are large with generous cuts of fish, so it’s worth it. Definitely worth a visit for anyone who loves sushi and sashimi.

I’ve been a sushi lover my entire adult life but this was my very first taste of sushi in Japan. I always hoped this first experience would be epic and I’d have to give this one an Epic Plus! Maybe it tasted so good and fresh because I spent the last month eating delicious street food in Thailand and Vietnam and sushi felt like a new taste sensation on my palette. But the taste of freshness is unmistakable and the entire staff became a part of my experience. Bravo to one and all! If you have a long layover at Narita Airport like I did, a great sushi experience is just one train stop away!

I got a combination sushi plate and a sake, and it was all marvelous. I think I could not have found a better place to have sushi in Japan for the first time as a solo traveler who was starving and tired after a long flight. Fantastic quality at a good price, and it felt rather fancy yet still casual. The sushi chef was very friendly despite me being a rather clueless first timer in Japan.

Big store with a lot of different kinds of products. It’s one big floor not multiples and seems to have worse variety of products and less interesting products compared to the ones in Tokyo. There’s also a lot less people so no crowing issue compared to the ones in Tokyo.

Fun place to shop before or after a flight. It’s huge and has pretty much everything from snacks and souvenirs to cosmetics and electronics. Prices are good and you can find lots of unique items to bring home. It’s open late so it’s super convenient if you’re short on time. Can get a bit overwhelming because of how packed it is but that’s part of the Don Quijote experience.

Mega Don Quijote Narita is a large store offering a wide variety of products. With a single-floor layout, shopping is convenient, and carts can be used throughout the store. However, some items are not always restocked, so certain products might be unavailable. A separate counter for tax refunds is available, adding to the overall convenience for travelers.

The outside counter staffs are cool and helpful. But only one thing here at the cashier. This staff is racist and rude through his action. Didn’t put the high value wallet into the fabric cover, instead he just grabbed and tossed the whole thing wildly in the paper bag!? Then he forgets something and took my bag again just to search for what he’s looking for. His name is くらむら

Wakamatsu Honten is a charming hotel located near Narita-san Park and the historic Narita-san Shinsho-ji Temple. The hotel offers bright and chic rooms with traditional Japanese elements such as tatami floors and chabudai tables, along with modern amenities like flat screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. Guests can enjoy a relaxed restaurant on-site as well as large public baths.
Super cute, traditional Japanese rooms. Lovely staff. Had a huge room with a sitting room and a bedroom with futons already laid out. Sliding paper screens, modern toilet, a view of the temple across the street. Building is old with a lot of charm. Breakfast was super tasty and healthy with a lot of dishes laid out in our room. Had a great time. Hot water and tea was waiting for us in our room and the porters brought our luggage up for us. Can't complain.

We picked this traditional Japanese style ryoken for our last night in Japan based on its location. We were not disappointed, the location was very convenient, and the view was stunning. We didn't realize the street it was on was also very traditional, which was a very pleasant surprise. The onsen was a wonderful experience. Would highly recommend if you want to experience a traditional Japanese style room.

I just stayed here with some friends and cannot recommend this place enough. The staff were extremely professional and friendly and always were always seemingly ready to help us with anything we needed. The dinner was delicious and the view from our room was great! I will be staying here again during my next trip to japan! loved it here.

Excellent stay on our last day before departing Japan. My only mild complaint is we arrived at 630pm, included dinner service ends at 7pm. We called while on the uber to tell them know we are coming and could we please have dinner. They don’t accommodate this request. I guess in this case Japanese strict rule following trumps hospitality. As far as I know we paid the same for the stay even without the dinner, which we had to get outside. The location is quite a hike from the train station so there isn’t even a combini nearby. We ate breakfast which was delicious. The onsen is small but lovely. There is a hotel shuttle to the airport but the last one offered is at 10am at checkout.

I had left my personal items behind and I had already left the country. After emailing their staff, they were able to send it to a hotel that my friend is staying at. I am very grateful for the staff who were kind who coordinated with me. In terms of the rooms, it is traditional and had a lot of amenities. I enjoyed my stay very much. It was my first time going into a public bath. It was very clean and well kept. The location of this hotel is next to the Naritasan Park. I highly recommend walking there. They also provide a shuttle to Narita Station where you can take the train to the Narita Airport.
S P — Google review
A simple and unassuming ryokan tucked away at the end of main street. Our room was a bit dark but cozy nonetheless and had a great view of the temples across. Food was delicious! We had two wonderful traditional Japanese meals in the dining room. The ladies serving them were super sweet. Onsen was great. Not sure if the water was from an actual natural source but it was hot and soothing. Be aware that some of the rooms don’t have showers so this would be your only bathing option. Otherwise make sure you pick a room with showers if you’re not comfortable bathing around others. Location is a bit far from train station (18min walk). If you’re only staying 1 night, it might be worth it to store your luggage in the coin lockers by the train station. Otherwise be prepared to drag your laughed for quite a bit. One small thing I didn’t like so much was that the 2nd floor had a smokers lounge so I could detect a hint of smoke smell (but also I’m extremely sensitive to smells). If this bothers you at all, I’d recommend booking a room on the 3rd floor.
Hui L — Google review
This is a perfect choice for a city-located ryokan. The onsen is in its traditional style and operates all day long. Tha staffs are extraordinarily kind. Dinner and breakfast menu is geniunely japan-styled, it might be disliked by those not familiar with. Strongly recemmend to everyone
현순김 — Google review
The staff was incredibly courteous and allowed us to drop off our luggage early before check in and by the time we got there to check in it was waiting in our room upstairs. Dinner is very traditional served fresh and the lady serving us was something else I swear she never stopped running she was serving 3 tables and it felt like I had personal service she was that on top of everything from towels to drinks she didn't disappoint. The hotel is located next to a lot of little shops but they all close kinda early by western standards between 5 and 6 pm but it's still enjoyable to stroll through. Also an amazing temple is literally across the street providing a spectacular view.

Train station
Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station is located in the neighboring prefecture of Chiba, not in Tokyo itself. The airport's surroundings are less urban and offer a great opportunity to explore smaller towns. From Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station, travelers can easily reach Narita city center within 10-11 minutes by train on the Keisei Line or the Narita Line. Both stations also provide coin lockers for luggage storage.
If you’re taking an international flight out of Narita, I highly recommend arriving at least 3,hours prior. It’s a huge airport to maneuver around. Even worse if you are at the wrong terminal. Clearing security was efficient and easy. There are several shops and food places to spend your last yen. It’s a clean and nice airport with plenty of toilets available.
Melanie E — Google review
For a large international airport with early flights to not have any open cafe or restaurant to get at least a coffee is ridiculous. Earliest opening cafe/restaurant is 7am. Go to any other major airport and they’re open at 4am. Also, quite depressing children area.
Reuven S — Google review
Narita express is my preferred way to travel between Tokyo and Narita Airport. The travel time from Tokyo Station to Narita Airport Terminal 1 station is almost 1 hour with a cost of 3,070 yen for reserved seat. The only challenge might be find the right ticket machine in the huge Tokyo Station.
Gaby G — Google review
TIP: If you are headed to Ueno take the Keisei Skyliner instead, it will get you directly to that district. NE'X is a very convenient and comfortable transport that will take you to the Narita Airport. Green car is also a nice upgrade that's not that much more expensive than the base fare. However, ticket purchasing experience is far from perfect. They should modernize their process so that one could board the train by using the QR code at the gates, similar to how it's done on the Shinkansen lines. Having to pick up a physical ticket at the machine is a step that anyone rushing for the airport would prefer to avoid - one cannot predict how many people will be queueing for the machine.
Sebastian Z — Google review
The line ends in a world of skyward movement: soaring walkways, duty-free scents, and the hush of engines waiting beyond the windows 🌍✨. Terminal 1 breathes possibility — a place where stories begin, end, and circle back again under the vast international sky. Tourist Tip: JR gates sit deeper inside the terminal — follow signs closely 🧭

Navigating through Narita Airport today was more frustrating than usual. As a sitting passenger, I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable with the rigid rules and lack of consideration for passengers like myself and my friend, who has a disability and a baby. It's disappointing that an airport of this caliber doesn't have a priority lane, especially for those who need it most. The check-in attendant's attitude only added to the tension. Their dismissive tone and refusal to acknowledge reasonable requests left me feeling disrespected and unheard. Customer service should be a top priority, but it seems lacking in this situation. Then there's the handbag weight rule, which just seems unnecessary. While I understand the need for weight limits on checked luggage, extending it to handbags feels arbitrary and inconvenient. The fact that other countries don't enforce such rules only adds to the frustration. The proposed solution of transferring items from my handbag to checked baggage doesn't make much sense either. It doesn't change the weight distribution on the plane, so why bother? And on top of that, laptops aren't even allowed in checked baggage due to safety concerns. Overall, the experience at Narita Airport today has left me feeling disheartened. Despite its modern amenities, the lack of consideration for passengers' comfort and the inconsistency with international norms detracts from its reputation as a world-class facility. There's definitely room for improvement in terms of staff training and flexibility with rules to ensure a smoother and more pleasant travel experience for everyone. FYI, I am flying Zipair
Jarelle — Google review
The female staff working at the airport’s X-ray checkpoints often appear to have rather stern expressions, which is unfortunate, as it somewhat detracts from the good memories people may have of Japan.
Propheta — Google review
It is a nice clean airport with plenty of restaurants and shopping. Easy to get around from the Narita Express Train exit. Clean bathrooms. Two sides - a North and South. Quick electronic checkin for airlines. My wife a little upset however because there were no Snickers or M&M's available in the duty free shop!

Narita Airport Terminal 1 Observation Deck is a popular spot for plane enthusiasts and travelers alike. Located at the end of the fifth floor, it offers a great view of international flights arriving and departing. The deck is open from early morning until late evening, providing ample opportunity to watch planes in action. While some building structures may partially obstruct the view, there are openings in the fence for photography enthusiasts with telephoto lenses. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a sushi restaurant nearby before their departure.
In many airports, the only way to see aircraft on the runway/apron is to go through security. Narita's observation deck is fully accessible without a ticket, and is connected to a sizable shopping floor with many options for food and drink. Great view from up here.
Thomas A — Google review
Good and large observation deck. You can see planes taking off and landing not far in front of you, but some building structures obstruct the view of the entire approach and landing or takeoff. There is a tight grid fence around the area so it is difficult to get a clear picture with your camera, but they have a few cutouts in the fence to allow your camera to fit even if it has a large lens. There is some seating. If you go up the escalators from the north wing, and come across a sign that shows the observation deck closed in the far north area, you are in the wrong spot. Look on maps for the actual location on the 5th floor by the food court.
Cory S — Google review
Great view of planes landing and taking off! There are benches and small fence openings, allowing the use of telephoto camera lens. There is a nice sushi restaurant (Kaisen Misakiko) near the observation deck. If you still craving for sushi before departure, this restaurant offer conveyor belt sushi. The sushi was not bad for the location.

You can watch many aircrafts from here, mainly from the Star Alliance airlines. The good part is that if you have a reflex camera there's few parts in the fence where you can stick it out so there won't be any obstruction within your sights.

The National Museum of Japanese History, located in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture, is a comprehensive museum that showcases the rich history and culture of Japan. It features themed botanical gardens, a restaurant, and a shop for visitors to enjoy. The museum also houses an inter-university research institute open to faculty, graduate students, and researchers from various agencies.
This museum provides an insightful overview of Japanese history and culture through clear, easy-to-understand panels and models. Many areas allow photography, so you can take pictures of the Japanese captions with your smartphone and use a translation app to grasp the general content. One of the standout features is the number of original artifacts on display, more than what you'd typically find at other museums. During my visit, there was a special exhibition titled The Future of History: Preserving the Past through People, Objects, and Data, which was unique for a history museum in that it focused on archives. The captions were a bit long, but it was clear that the curator was passionate about the subject. The exhibition helped me understand how historical events are documented, verified, and preserved through everyday stories and objects.
Bird D — Google review
A great place to get to know and appreciate Japanese history. While most of the written explanations are in Japaneaw, visitors can download an app to listen to English audio guide for the items in the museum. The dioramas that depict various events are awesome. They really pay attention to the details. They bring to mind imaginations on life in the past. The entrance is a short hike from the main street. I would recommend to have luggages deposit e.g. at coin lockers at keisei sakura for those who walk to the museum. For my case, the museum staff helped us depositing our luggages in the museum upon entry.

This museum goes into depth of all the history of Japan. From how it was inhabited by humans, to modern day. As a history fan, this was by far the best museum throughout my entire trip. It's so huge, you will be there from open to vlose. It also has audio in multiple languages, so definitely bring headphones. And it has great souvenirs and a cafe. Also it's wasn't packed, so you can go at your own pace to learn and absorb the history.

Massive museum, probably the best in the entire country. The history of Japan is presented through themes, beautiful dioramas and figures. Few signs in English, and escapes from the usual subjects, but still has a section about the war and the consequences. No idea why it's not advertised for foreign tours. It's close to Narita airport, and easily reached by public transportation, also from Tokyo (but it's a long journey). Running you can see it in two to three hours. Really looking at it, you're gonna be there for the opening time. Pavillion Five (Meiji restoration) is close till 2026.

Detailed and expansive museum of Japanese History, beginning thousands of years ago and running up to about 1980. Can be enjoyed by non-Japanese, but seems to be directed mainly at a domestic audience. I was there on a Wednesday in October 2025 and I didn’t see any non-Japanese visitors - I was the only one! Lots of school groups fill up the place. Limited English documentation but it was good enough, although I already have a pretty good knowledge of Japanese history. The exhibits are numerous and well organized, it’s a very interesting museum in this small town not that far from Narita Airport. If fate finds you here, it’s not a bad choice at all to spend 2-3 hours. There are other local attractions that could even fill out a whole day.

The Three-Story Pagoda at Naritasan Shinshoji Standing before the Three-Story Pagoda, I felt as if I was looking not only at a religious monument but also at a jewel box of Japanese architectural mastery from the Edo period. Originally built in 1712, the pagoda has survived more than three centuries, carrying with it the devotion, artistry, and symbolism of a time when Buddhist architecture was at its most vibrant. It is officially designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and it is easy to see why. Architecturally, the pagoda embodies the perfection of Edo craftsmanship. Each of its three stories narrows elegantly as they ascend, a rhythm of proportion and balance that makes the tall structure feel both monumental and graceful. The rooflines are built in the irimoya style (hip-and-gable), their sweeping curves accentuated by meticulously arranged tiles. Rising from the very top is the sōrin, the bronze spire that symbolizes the axis of the universe in Buddhist cosmology. Its segmented rings represent the stages of enlightenment, a constant reminder of the spiritual purpose behind the architectural grandeur. What makes this pagoda especially captivating is its ornamentation. Unlike some plainer Zen structures, this pagoda bursts with color and detail, reflecting the ornate taste of the Tokugawa era. The brackets and eaves are decorated with intricate carvings of mythical beasts—dragons, lions, phoenixes—guardians of sacred space. Painted clouds and wave patterns swirl under the eaves, giving the sense that the building itself floats between heaven and earth. Gilded accents catch the sunlight, making the structure shimmer like a treasure chest. Historically, pagodas in Japan were built as reliquaries, symbolic towers that enshrined sacred texts or relics of the Buddha. While this particular pagoda is more symbolic than functional, it stands as a representation of the Buddhist universe—each tier reflecting elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and space. Its presence within the Naritasan complex emphasizes the temple’s long-standing role as a spiritual center since its founding in 940 CE. In its position beside the Great Main Hall, the Three-Story Pagoda feels like a counterpoint—while the Main Hall is solemn and massive, the pagoda is vibrant and expressive. Walking around it, I was struck by how it harmonized with the larger temple grounds while still drawing attention as a masterpiece on its own. It is not just a building; it is a sermon in wood, lacquer, and gold. On a personal level, I found myself imagining the artisans who built and repainted it across centuries. Their brushstrokes, chisels, and gold leaf applications remain alive in this structure, whispering across time. To stand before it is to witness the endurance of faith and beauty, a fusion of architecture and spirituality that has survived wars, earthquakes, and countless generations of change.

Quite big temple and a nice park next to it. Beautiful and peaceful, a walking street near by with plenty choice of restaurants. Can plan 1-2 hours sightseeing here and lunch or dinner. Last minute tourist stuff before flying out from Narita airport.

Such a nice attraction , just 15 mins walk from Narita station. Just walk follow the shop line Omotesando street all the way to the temple. It is one of the best known temples in the Kanto region, dedicated to UNMOVED WISDOM KING 🤴, often called a FIRE GOD 🔥, he is associated with fire rituals. Environment : As you know cleanliness is part of Japanese culture, Most first-time visitors to Japan are struck by how clean the country is, I visit Japan so many times and I’m still impressed with their cleanliness. Food : Food is awesome and affordable. While walking to Naritasan temple please try their Matcha ice cream 🍦and grilled eel, the taste is awesome !! People : Most of them are genuinely friendly even though there is a communication barrier, but don’t worry try google translate 👍🏼 Other than that : Just bring some cash, they also have preloved shop that requires cash only, the price is more more cheaper.

This wonderful gem is always a favorite place for me to go on my layovers! I walk about 8 miles through stunning emerald rice fields to the “Stairway to Heaven”, literally as it goes through the packed Japanese cemetery onto the back of the Temple grounds. I then spend some time at the pond pagoda feeding the turtles and coy before meandering the grounds towards the entrance. I’ve been walking this path more than 10 years.

This is a really nice and beautiful place! We had a couple of hours to kill in Narita, so we decided to visit here. The walk from JR Narita Station it the temple is a really nice walk where the entire path is filled with all kinds of shops, from Japanese souvenirs to restaurants and snacks shops. The narrow street combined with the Japanese traditional house look make it a beautiful place to take photo. At the end of the walk you will be rewarded with the temple grounds, which is huge. There are multiple temples and pagodas within it and they even have a huge garden where you can enjoy nature. Really a great place to explore with couple of hours to kill. Nearer to the temple there are lots of Japanese restaurant which specializes in Unagi (Eel) and the smell wafting from these restaurant is amazing!

The pavilion serves as an information center for Narita City Tourism Division and includes a small museum showcasing the history of Narita pilgrimages and festivals during the Edo period.
We went there on a rainy day and it was awesome! At 1pm, the Narita World Heritage UNESCO branch organize activities on the upper floors : - making kimono-clad paper dolls - trying you hand at japanese calligraphy - ikebana : flower arrangement with fresh seasonal flowers and plants - traditional tea ceremony - listening to and trying to play Koto (traditional japanese harp kind of instrument) The ladies and gentlemen organizing, teaching and helping you with the activities are really nice, patient and overall a joy to be around. They speak English as well! I can't thank them enough for a great afternoon! So thank you again!!! And guess what? It's all free, I couldn't believe that with the quality of the activities, the fact that you leave with your doll, calligraphy attempt, calligraphy by one of the gentlemen there and that you had tea and sweets, it was free. I would have happily paid for the whole package! You can also see a traditional wedding kimono and the Pavillon exhibition halls if you like history.

Really cool Temple area in Narita . It’s one of those places that isn’t talked about much when you think of Japan sightseeing but it’s only 30 minutes walk from Narita station and you pass through this tunnel and bridge on the way there . In April it’s covered in cherry blossoms . This place is a super underrated spot to visit so if you have a layover in Japan or are spending a day in Narita it’s definitely worth checking out . It’s also relatively quiet so you can get plenty of photos without other people in the way

Wat Paknam is a unique Thai Buddhist temple located in Japan, established in 1997 as an extension of the original temple in Thailand dating back to 1610. The temple hosts various events related to Thailand and warmly welcomes people of all nationalities. Visitors are required to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the buildings. The atmosphere is lively during church services, resembling a bustling bazaar with local cuisine served on Sundays.
Famous Thai Buddhist temple in Japan. The original in Thailand was established in 1610, and this temple was opened in 1997. Of course this is Buddhist temple but there will be events related to Thailand. And surprisingly they welcome everyone regardless their race or nationality. One important point is you cannot enter if you wear too casual. This is the same visiting temple in Thailand. And you have to take off your shoes when you enter the buildings, etc.

Located in the Narita region, Ryūshō-in is a magnificent Buddhist temple. Situated alongside a road, this culturally significant site captivates visitors with its beauty and intriguing features. Despite its modest size, there are plenty of fascinating details to admire within this heritage-listed structure. Conveniently, ample parking space is available for visitors and there is also a compact restroom on the premises.
(Translated by Google) The temple is the 28th temple of the Bando Thirty-Three Kannon. This temple is located right next to the Tone River. This is a Tendai sect temple whose principal image is Eleven-faced Kanzeon Bodhisattva. It also enshrines Bishamonten, the Shimofusa Seven Lucky Gods. The precincts have a splendid thatched Niomon gate, which is a nationally designated important cultural property, giving it a powerful impression. It seems to have been built during the Muromachi period. The main hall is also magnificent and is an Edo period building. This is designated as a Chiba Prefecture tangible cultural property. I was also able to receive a Goshuin stamp and meet a nice, gentle-spoken monk. The old trees in the temple grounds are also wonderful. And, I got a lucky fortune! I'm in high spirits lol I want to give it 6 stars lol Ryushoin Niomon Gate The following is an excerpt from the Narita City website. This gate is called Sankenichido, and is an eight-legged gate with three bays at the front and one bay in the center as the entrance. The roof is a thatched hipped roof, and it is a simple wooden building. One of the features is the sixteen-sided pillars. The front of the rooms on both sides of the entrance are vertical lattice, and the surrounding area is horizontal paneling. The architectural style is an eclectic style that combines Japanese style with Zen elements. It is said to have been built in 1298, but it has stylistic characteristics from the mid-Muromachi period, and the ink-written prayer found inside the Nio statue dates to 1502-1503, so it is believed to have been rebuilt during the Muromachi period. The shimenawa rope at the front represents the dragon god, and is dedicated by local people every year on January 8th. This shimenawa rope is said to come from a legend that long ago, when there was a major fire in Namekawa, the dragon god appeared in front of Ryushoin and put an end to the flames.

Within the temple grounds is the Niomon Gate, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property that was rebuilt during the Muromachi period. The gate is a thatched, hipped-roofed structure that is still re-thatched every few years. The gate is adorned with a sacred rope, and it is said that when a major fire broke out in the area in front of the temple, the Nio statues fanned the flames with a large fan. The rope is apparently offered every New Year by the villagers, who bring straw. The main hall has a copper roof, and inside, the ceiling and lattice ceiling are decorated with magnificent paintings.
