Lawang Sewu, located in the Tugumuda complex, was once a magnificent art deco building used as the headquarters of the Dutch East Indies Railway Company. Designed by Dutch architects Prof. Jacob F. Klinkhamer and B.J Queendag, it was built in 1903 and officially opened on July 1, 1907.
The Ticket price starts from 10K for Kids, 20K for Adults and 30K for Foreign Tourist. Was previously functioned for Dutch government back to colonial time. I recommend to visit the basement in order to feel the true horror experience of this place. And yeah for the basement there is additional charge.

Lawang sewu just like before i visited. Great colonial building and history to tell. But unfortunetly, this time, when i go to the dungeon, the guide didn't not tell us about the history. More like to tell us about the structure of the building and more. And just to add some advice, if visitor buy the advance ticket like me, please provide the personal tour guide immediately, so we do have to look for the tour guide place on our own
Nadya A — Google review
This place is majestic. When visiting this place I would strongly suggest you to use a guide provided there, it’s not free service (for a family of four you will have to pay at least IDR100,000) but it’s really worth it. The guide will not only tell you the history about this place but they are good photographer as well, they will tell you the best location to take picture and will take a nice picture for you.
Indra P — Google review
Really place to learn some of local history. The flow of the museum needs to be better sih. So people like me, when decided to go there without any guide still can do a proper tour. Maybe a guide letter / sign can help. Sssstt they got a hidden basement tour (some said it haunted!)
Faiz A — Google review
When learning about the Old Semarang, Lawang Sewu is one of the historical place to understand the history of how the Indonesian Train company was initially founded. From getting off the train at Stasiun Semarang Tawan, visiting the Old Town, then learning about the architecture of the initial Train Company HQ at Lawang Sewu and then closing it with the old St. Ambarawa Museum is a must.
Winaya D — Google review
A great place to know a little bit more about the Indonesian history with the Dutch. I love that there's something for everyone: adults, small children and older people. I got to do the immersive one - price a tad more expensive than the other entrance fee but worth it to have someone talk to you about the history behind Lawang Sewu. Prices probably will change so I'd refer you to their website. The immersive experience in Building B has AC so a good break from the heat and humidity. There are souvenir shops, photo booths, caricature making if you want the traditional route of having your photo taken, owls that perform tricks, of course eateries and lots of museum like information inside the buildings. Depending on what type of tourist you are - there's something for everyone. Just a little warning, they won't let you bring drinks inside so better to put them inside your bag and drink it after going in or buy from the vendors inside. For the elderly, they also have wheelchairs. Just leave your ID when borrowing one. Outside the gates, local vendors sell toys and other souvenirs too
Riza A — Google review
It is more attractive now with the immersive experience so its not that boring as it used to. When visit Semarang make sure u try to come at least once

Sam Poo Kong Temple, also known as Gedung Batu, is a historical temple complex in Semarang, Central Java. It features traditional Chinese and Javanese architectural elements and has strong cultural and historical significance. The temple's origins are associated with Admiral Zheng He (Cheng Ho), a 15th-century Chinese Muslim explorer. Its majestic presence and blend of architectural styles make it a captivating attraction for visitors interested in Indonesia's colonial and wartime history.
Honestly, this is a place of worship, I came here for tourism, with a beauty that is very thick with Chinese culture and history, maybe it would be a little better if there were more plants so that not too hot and scorching. The guards are very friendly, the price of food and drinks is very affordable. Would be happy to be able to go to this place again
Nida N — Google review
Sam Poo Kong is a breathtaking blend of Chinese and Javanese architecture, rich in history and culture. This ancient temple complex, built in the 15th century, honors Admiral Zheng He's stopover in Semarang and showcases stunning red and gold decorations. Visitors can explore four temples, watch cultural performances like lion dances, and even rent traditional Chinese costumes for memorable photos. With its serene atmosphere and delicious food stalls, Sam Poo Kong is a must-visit destination in Semarang. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, culture, and spirituality.

Sam Poo Kong Temple in Semarang is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, blending history, culture, and spirituality in a single destination. The temple complex is beautifully designed with striking red architecture, intricate details, and a serene atmosphere that reflects its Chinese heritage. It’s not only a place of worship but also a cultural symbol that attracts both locals and tourists. Walking through the grounds, visitors can explore several shrines, statues, and pavilions, each with its own story and significance. The temple is closely tied to the legend of Admiral Cheng Ho, adding a layer of historical depth to the visit. The space feels both majestic and peaceful, making it an excellent spot for those interested in culture, history, or simply seeking a quiet moment. Overall, Sam Poo Kong offers more than just sightseeing—it provides an experience of connection with Semarang’s multicultural past. Whether you come for the architecture, the history, or the spiritual aspect, it’s a must-visit destination that leaves a lasting impression.

It is a great place to stay, think, and view cultural heritage of multicultural Semarang. The temple is truly huge, the smell of scent present everywhere, and as for Indonesia this place is clean and pleasant. I wish I had more time to sit down and clean my thoughts or even meditate but I only had two hours free during my business trip. Enjoyable and wonderful place.

Made a quick stop here just to seeing sight and take some pictures. Such a beautiful place with a very serene vibe. There is also a praying room for Muslim tourist here and there are many food stalls in case you feel like eating something after your visit. Lovely!
Reyhana V — Google review
Historically interesting, especially the story behind it. But needs a heap of TLC because it's generally in poor condition and lots of rubbish lying around 😔 A good luck of painting to bring back the vibrancy of the statues and front building would go a long way to improving its presence 👌
James D — Google review
They have different types of tickets, the more expensive ones as they said, could visit all the places. However, you are still prohibited to enter their “holy” rooms because they don’t categorize you as “PRAYERS”, meaning if you don’t pay extra for offering incense. So hilarious, because they actually have no idea whom they are praying and why they are praying for him. 你们知道郑和真的是谁吗?? 无知的可笑。

Food looked great when on bbq. Paid for big squid , got 1 squid skewer with 4 squid rings on it. Completely killed with sauce, rubbery , tasteless. Tako yaki were undercooked. Had to throw everything away.

It lost its glory days, the old times semawis is much better than the current semawis. The foods are becoming so mediocore and have less variations compared with recent bazaar and food stall, and it's not as festive unless it's near Chinese new year date. It does not feel special for locals , and for people from other town. The iconic food mostly gone , only modern foods. The seating is gettig very few. Place is still clean , even cleaner from the old times semawis.

I went there on saturday night, around 9pm, and the place was so crowded! There are lots of food stalls, some selling korean food. Only few stalls provide tables. Visitors are varied starting from teenagers to adults. The space is narrow and the place isnt clean because many buyers throw rubbish on the road. The food price is a bit high. For me, its not a kid friendly place. But if you love to taste kinds of food while walking and do not mind to queue, its a perfect place.

Nestled in the historic heart of Semarang's Old Town, Blenduk Church stands as a remarkable testament to the region's rich cultural tapestry. Established in 1753, this architectural gem showcases an octagonal shape crowned by a stunning copper dome that draws inspiration from St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Originally designed in traditional Javanese Joglo style, it underwent a significant transformation in 1894 to adopt its current neo-classical Doric order design.

This is my first time in Old Town of Semarang. The church is just under restoration. Very good places to visit. Worth it.

Gereja Blenduk is considered to be a landmark in Semarang. Old yet iconic and historical. It used to be a Dutch church and up until now it is still operating. Open for public to visit but also open for Sunday Mass. Located at the heart of Semarang Old Town. The building is still properly maintained. The style is very 'Dutch'. Come in the morning for a great view and less crowded for photo session.

Old Dutch colonial days. Doors open for public to go in. 10am to 4pm Will be accompanied by the caretaker. Need to sign in visitors book and Judy add in a small donation for maintenance. Good place for a quiet moment. Big organ pipes but no longer being played.

The church stands majestically under the sun... you can't miss it. Make sure you get an Instagrammable worthy shot in front of the church. After that, be sure to take a stroll across the streets admiring the ancient city. The roads, lamps, buildings - are colonial Dutch era that makes you think you are in an European town!

Brown Canyon is a picturesque destination known for its exotic natural beauty, making it a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts. The towering cliffs and rock formations create a stunning sight that resembles being abroad. This active sand mine offers an ideal backdrop for capturing breathtaking sunset photos. Visitors are advised to plan their trip outside of working hours or come prepared with protective gear if visiting during operational hours. It's considered one of the newest must-visit tourist spots in Semarang, offering ample opportunities for stunning photography.
Beautiful place, even better in the evening to see sunset. Tou can also see ungaran mountains from here. The site is also use for quarry, so you will see a lot of construction car pass by. But the road access is quite bad, I visit using motorbikes.
Marchellin A — Google review
This rock and soil mine has very low activity during Eid Mubarak holiday so we can get clear picture of the view. The road is accessible when you use sedan or SUV but rather danger if you want to go further close to the mountain especially when it rain. We go 4WD and go deep and in high ground to get stunning view. Its worthed the risk actually, amazing view, would even better for sunset time. The road is much like off road, with many of big rocks hasnt cleared along the road. The minus thing is not recreational area it only open for public. So not much activity can be done but taking picture or filming the sight seeing.
Hart 0 — Google review
My friend and I describe this as a “tourist trap.” It is included as a tourist destination in an article we found, but little did we know that it’s in a middle of nowhere. The canyon is not even natural-made. It’s made from the constant quarry. For photo’s sake, you can visit the place but make sure you have your own mode of transportation because I don’t think you can find a Grab car or bike when you’re there.
Fraire A — Google review
This place isn't managed as a recreational place so there are not many things to do here aside from taking photos. It's not far from the city but the road isn't good for vehicles so be careful. The mining activities continuously change the shape of the hills. The last time I was there, the hills didn't look good as in my previous visit.
Dro H — Google review
THIS place actually is a sand mining area. The ongoing mining activities creates hills and canyons. People find it interesting to take photographs of the place specially in Golden Hours that is in the morning or in the afternoon. The place is Instagramable despite the path to the place quite hard to travel. It's best to use motorcycle to get to the location. It will be easy to move to other spots since the place quite big. Anyhow there is other way to reach the location by your own car. Just follow the route of dump trucks of the site.
Tommy W — Google review
Its a beautiful spot, perfect for photography, yet never go without preparation. Naturally the scene is an active mining location, there are numerous mining activities there, and the road is like an offroad track, a sedan or car with low ground clearence definitely can't go there, especially when its rain. Very dangerous! Despite all that, the place is a beautiful spot to take a photo.
Michael T — Google review
It's actually a Quarry. What's left of it is today's scenery, haystack hills consists of volcanic rock layers. The view itself is quite pleasant, especially when around sunset. Quite dusty and windy in here, if you want to visit Brown Canyon I recommend to bring your own mask. Don't get too close to the hills, it's quite high and vertical. Be aware of rock avalanche.
Bayu F — Google review
A "tourist" sites that gives America a grand canyon scenery. This is the site of a stone quarry that is still active but is open to the public. If you visit here you'd better have a mask because there are still other trucks carrying mining materials. Access to this location is not so good. If you geologists this place is good to learn volcanostratigraphy. Hopefully, local authorities can make the site a conservation site so that it can become a natural tourist attraction with visitors.

Old Town Semarang is a charming area filled with Dutch colonial buildings, including a church and a train station. The architecture dates back to the 18th century when the Dutch occupied Indonesia, giving it a distinct European feel. The wide sidewalks are adorned with vintage-style lamp posts and greenery, creating a picturesque pedestrian experience. Visitors can explore antique shops and stylish cafes while admiring the well-preserved historic buildings.
Semarang definitely deserved its title of being one of the place that have the best preserved Dutch colonial architecture. It's super underrated and I'm glad I did a trip here. The old town is very clean and very walkable, and can get pretty lively in the night. There isn't much to do except to immerse yourself is this relic of the past, good to spend one or two days just relaxing around and soaking in the historic atmosphere.

Discover the Timeless Charm of Kota Lama Semarang Nestled in the heart of Central Java, Kota Lama Semarang—often called the “Little Netherlands of Java”—invites visitors to step back in time and explore one of Indonesia’s most remarkable historical districts. Dating back to the 17th century, this old town reflects the meeting point of East and West, where Dutch colonial influence intertwined with Javanese tradition. Today, Kota Lama stands not only as a monument to history but also as a vibrant cultural hub, drawing travelers from across the globe. A Living Museum of Colonial Architecture Walking through Kota Lama feels like entering an open-air museum. The district is lined with elegant European-style buildings, many of which remain intact from the Dutch colonial era. Characterized by thick walls, high ceilings, large windows, and steep roofs, these structures were adapted to suit the tropical climate of Java while maintaining their European grandeur. • Gereja Blenduk (Blenduk Church), with its iconic red dome built in 1753, is the centerpiece of the old town and an unmissable landmark. • The Marba Building, once a bustling trading house, showcases neoclassical architecture with intricate details. • The Old Post Office and the former bank buildings stand as testaments to Semarang’s past role as a thriving trading hub. Each corner tells a story, offering photographers and history enthusiasts endless opportunities to capture the charm of the past. This unique urban layout still defines Kota Lama today, making it one of the best-preserved colonial districts in Indonesia. Walking along Jl. Letjen Suprapto or relaxing in Srigunting Park, visitors can feel the layers of history: from a once-busy colonial port to a revitalized heritage site, now filled with art galleries, cafés, and creative spaces. Restored buildings now house vibrant cafés, boutique shops, and contemporary art exhibitions, blending the old and the new. Visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee in a century-old building, browse through antique markets, or join heritage festivals that bring the district to life. Tugu Muda is a beautiful and meaningful monument located in the heart of Semarang. It stands as a symbol of the spirit and sacrifice of Indonesian heroes during the fight for independence. The area around the monument is clean and well-maintained, surrounded by gardens and fountains that look lovely, especially at night when the lights are on. It’s also close to other famous landmarks like Lawang Sewu and the old city area, making it a perfect stop for anyone exploring Semarang’s history and culture

tugu muda is one of the landmark of this city. it is a monument about 5 days war against japanese troops. as a local, i don't have any specific reasons to visit this place purposely. but for tourists, this is kind of "a must visit" and take some pics or video about this place. it is a public space like people park, free to visit and quite crowded during evening.

Tugu Muda is a stone monument in Semarang, Java commemorating the struggle for independence by Indonesian youth.[1] It was dedicated by President Sukarno on 20 May 1953 to commemorate the continuous five-day battle between the youth of Semarang and a Japanese battalion led by Major Kido from 14–19 October 1945. Japanese forces drove the Dutch from Indonesia as the "elder brother of Asia"; however, the Japanese were crueler to dissidents than their Dutch counterparts.[2] The stone monument consists of a foundation, body and head. One side of the monument is done in relief, with ornamental ponds and gardens surrounding it.

An amazing monument in Semarang. Really recommended to visit and enjoy the sunrise or sunset in the city of Semarang
Denias S — Google review
The monument is located in the middle of a roundabout that is also a small park with a pond, some benches to sit on while enjoying the surrounding, particularly as a spot to view the beautiful Lawang Sewu. There's a free drinking fountain, a really cool facility, but I didn't check whether it was still working or not.

Kampung Pelangi, also known as Rainbow Village Semarang, is a vibrant and colorful destination located in the southern part of Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. The village is famous for its sustainability initiatives and boasts over 200 houses painted in rainbow stripes. Once considered a slum area, the Indonesian government revamped it to boost tourism, making it one of Indonesia's most Instagrammable spots.
Great place! Some local kids showed us around and later we decided to buy all the kids up the hill some ice cream. 10/10

Waste of time and Grab ride to get there and back. Nothing like photos and very poor compared to colourful village in Malang. If you already been to Kampung Tridi and Kampung Warna Warni in Malang, don’t waste your time to visit here.

uh i mean almost every city has this kind of rainbow village. There's one called Colorful Village in East Java as well. Not bad, but not the best tourist attraction spot. What i like from here is its cleanliness (considering that it is a village), vibrant colors, florists with their beautiful supplies in front of the village, and its wall paintings.💖

Great place to visit and take photos! So colorful and lovely. Don't forget to buy some flowers to make your photos aesthetic af. Just so you know, you'll need several hours to explore this little place cause it's very wide and just like a maze, very fun to explore! The citizens are friendly and ready to give you directions when you get lost

Beautiful concept of tourism. The villagers and local government have made a great effort to turn local village into such beautiful tourist attraction. There are sign and map of long tracks or short tracks for trekking. Watch the step because sometimes it's little bit higher. Don't hesitate to ask local villagers if you felt out of track.

The exhibitions are well-curated, providing insightful commentary and engaging displays. The gallery’s atmosphere is welcoming, making it an ideal spot for art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. A must-visit for anyone interested in exploring the dynamic world of contemporary art in Semarang.

The Semarang Contemporary Art Gallery offers a glimpse into the local art scene with its curated exhibitions and unique works. The space itself is well-maintained and provides a quiet, reflective environment for visitors to explore and appreciate contemporary art. However, there are a few aspects that could be improved. One of the main issues I encountered during my visit was the temperature inside the gallery. It felt quite hot, which made the experience a bit uncomfortable. In a space meant for contemplation and enjoyment, maintaining a comfortable temperature is crucial, especially in a tropical climate like Semarang’s. As for the art on display, while the pieces showcased are interesting and varied, I felt that the collection was somewhat limited. Given the entry fee of Rp25.000 per person, I expected a more extensive exhibition. The current selection, although thoughtfully curated, left me wanting more in terms of quantity and variety. Overall, the Semarang Contemporary Art Gallery provides a pleasant escape for art enthusiasts looking to explore local contemporary works. However, the experience could be enhanced with better climate control and a more comprehensive collection of art pieces. Despite these areas for improvement, it’s still a nice place to visit for those interested in the arts, just be prepared for a warmer than expected visit.

The only one contemporary art museum in Semarang I guess. Located in the heart of Semarang 'Kota Lama' and the building is a former Dutch building. The place is quite small. The paintings will be changing following the enacted theme at the time of visiting. Yet at the second floor, there's no AC so its very hot plus Semarang weather during noon time is also very hot. And the ticket is quite expensive for a small exhibition in my opinion.
Shei — Google review
"This art gallery provides a commendable presentation of contemporary paintings. While cleanliness and comfort are meticulously maintained, the breadth of its painting collection is considerably restricted when benchmarked against art galleries in Jakarta or other major urban centers."
Antonius P — Google review
I've always liked visiting galleries. There's always something interesting to learn about! The gallery had "night market" as their theme while i visited. Since I am a local, it was easy to get information on the pieces. However, it would be nice to provide english explanation to cater for tourists. I hope that this could be improved 😊 Though it looks nice, I do think the gallery need repairs. Especially the leaky roof on the second floor. Also, it was pretty warm inside, maybe consider adding air conditioner/fans for comfort.
Nadya — Google review
This is an excellent attempt to promote local contemporary artists, though the works seem to be from among a limited pool of artists with not much variety in style. Nevertheless, worth a short visit for some pics in a trendy gallery if you’re in the heart of Kota Lama.
F. U — Google review
Lovely small art gallery in the heart of Semarang’s old town. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the gallery itself and the displayed artworks. The temperature and air circulation should be improved. 25.000Rp are an okay price.
Michael F — Google review
The place isn't huge. Two floors and not many artwork exhibited when I happened to be there. It was clean, there are three small couches we can sit on and relax for a bit in the middle of the criminally hot weather of Semarang. It would be a lot better if they maximize the space and put on more artwork, cause the place was definitely spacious enough and they weren't doing a good job to exhibit as many artwork as they can.. Overall, it's not bad. I personally think this place could be a 5 star art gallery if there were more artwork being presented. Also, the ticket was 20k IDR.

Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah (MAJT) is a sprawling modern mosque complex in Semarang, Indonesia. The architecture is a mix of styles and features a rotating restaurant with stunning views. The atmosphere resembles that of Masjid Nabawi in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, with its automatic opening and closing umbrellas on the courtyard. While not an exact replica, it offers a similar ambiance for visitors to experience.
Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah is truly magnificent! The architecture is a beautiful blend of modern and Islamic styles, with tall minarets and a spacious courtyard. The view from the tower is breathtaking, especially at sunset. It’s not only a place of worship but also a cultural landmark where visitors can learn about Islamic heritage in Indonesia. Very clean, peaceful, and well maintained a must-visit when in Semarang.

The mosque's grand design, with its iconic minaret and vast prayer hall, offers a sense of tranquility and awe to visitors. This mosque has long been on my wishlist to visit. During my long long previous pilgrimages to the Wali of Central Java ago, I passed by it several times and only admired it from afar. Alhamdulillah, this time I was destined to pray here and feel its grandeur. It’s hard to put into words, but old buildings always seem to hold their own stories for those who visit. This mosque is one of them. It whispers wisdom that has endured through time.

Wonderful mosque architecture in the capital city of Central Java, Semarang. Finally got the chance to visit and perform subuh pray before going to Solo. Many jamaah visited the mosque even before Subuh Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the toilet and wudhu spot should be improved a lot. It was really uncomfortable see rubbish everywhere. The floor was slippery so it can be dangerous for people to walk here to have wudhu There was no cleaning officer there, plus the visitor has no awareness to keep the place clean It was very disappointing

The mosque is breathtaking. The architecture is also beautiful. It has its own style. Also this mosque is HUGE! When you come here I advise you to go to the information centre first. I went here to pray by myself and got lost (but the view is great anyway so it's fine). But it is very hot if you come here to enjoy the view in the middle of the day.

A visit to Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah on 7/Mar/2020. The most unforgettable features of this mosque to me are its outdoor arch and the purple color used, maybe the number of mosque I have seen is not large, I guess purple color is rarely used. After I arrived at the mosque for a while, I heard Adzan from the minaret, it was resonant, I was deeply attracted to stay there to listen to. I even record the voice, when google map supports to upload a video, I will update. There are 4 pillars looking like umbrellas, the function of them are used as shelters for prayers in rainy days. The inner side of the mosque is luxuriant, visitors (prayers and non-prayers) are free to come in, I lingered in the mosque for more than 1 hour.
Stephanie Z — Google review
The umbrellas were closed even though the day was super bright - cost saving, understood. But the toilet and the place for taking ablution was lacking of fresh air and was wet wet wet.. inside the mosque, as most of mosques I have ever been to in this country, children were running here and there, women talk-siding loudly sometimes giggling, and of course some were taking nap..

It’s a muggy Sunday morning. Hot! Chinatown was not really Chinatown in my opinion. The shops were not open and those shops open were jewelry stores. Aurél E — Google review
Those who enjoy visiting morning markets, this is an area worth waking up early to survey and do some shopping including buying fruits produced locally. One particularly surprising found is the cafe specialised for good quality coffee, humbly called “coffee shop”. While waiting for its seemingly late opening at 9.30am, I spoke to the hawkers in the surrounding area, all of them have their thumb up for this shop. Not crowded probably because it is not cheap by local standard, but certainly better and worth the money paid. This is notwithstanding the fact that I am more a tea drinker.

It is a vibrant place of multiple cultures coming together. Chinese migrants now 2nd or 3rd generations side by side with indigenous Indonesians. The Taoist temples are colourful and steeped in history. Talk to the caretakers and they are more than willing to share stories and guiding where and how to perform the paying respect to ancestors and the dieties. Josssticks available for purchase at the temple premises. The beat are the morning street markets. A hive of activities of daily fare, street food and snacks abundant, eat to heart's delight. Most of the vendors are friendly as long do not obstruct them doing their business. Photo taking - do ask permission first as many elders do not want their face picture taken though they are OK with of their stall.

Lunpia Gang Lombok, located near Tay Kak Sie Temple in Semarang, is a popular spot known for serving some of the best lunpia in the region. These delicate spring rolls are made fresh to order throughout the day and are filled with a variety of ingredients such as chicken or pork, bamboo shoots, shrimp, egg, and mushroom. They are served with a spicy sauce and can be enjoyed on-site or taken home.
It is one my most favorite Lunpia Semarang. It was even more delicious to enjoy on the spot while hot. Price was considered expensive around 15.000 per piece few years ago, but still they had many loyal consumers like me. I liked most when ate together with spring onion & chili.

This is the famous Lumpia Semarang, and almost everyone I asked for lumpia recommendations in Semarang pointed me to Gang Lombok as their number one choice. It's always crowded with buyers, and many people get it as a souvenir. I always visit in the morning for take away, so I don't have to wait too long. They only have one lumpia variant, which is a mix of bamboo shoots, eggs, and shrimp, priced at 22,000 idr. It might be a bit pricey for a lumpia, but I think it's worth it. The bamboo shoots have a smoky aroma and aren't too pungent when eaten (unlike other Semarang lumpia that can be quite strong), and the wrapper isn't too thick (so you don't end up eating too much flour). It's definitely worth trying when you're in Semarang!

Saving the best for last, I made Loenpia my final stop before leaving Semarang. I went to Gg. Lombok despite not knowing which store in Semarang sold the most genuine Loenpia. On a weekday before lunchtime, I stopped by; there was no line, and the service was prompt. The tastes and ingredients in Loenpia's "Goreng" and "Basah" were both delicious and rich. Each one cost IDR 20k. Loenpia Goreng lasted up to 24 hours and Loenpia Basah lasted up to 12 hours in the room temperature, while both lasted about 1 week when refrigerated. Huge museum with a diverse collection! Definitely worth visiting. There's the standard Hindu and Buddhist statues in most Java museums, but then about 75% is focused on local culture from the Muslim era onward. Limited English on some labels - you need Google translate. It's especially rich in wayang, ceramics, weapons and batik. There's also life-size dioramas of local artisanal production and cultural festivals. I spent about 2 hours here but could have spent even more. Huge negative though: almost nothing is labeled helpfully. Ex: statues labeled as which mudra or god they represent, no context on era or location. There's 4 buildings, with a second floor on each building. There's also a large outside sculpture area past the bathrooms. Price is 15k for foreigners. It's well connected to the city via the bus system. Also don't miss the WWII graveyard just across the highway, the largest in Indonesia.
Josiah W — Google review
What do you expect when you visit a museum? Rich history of a place to gain knowledge from near and far of course. Pretty good showcase for the least part, saying that coz for the most part they lacked maintenance. They're either Rundown, chipping paint, non working sound effects on the Diorama pieces, etc. This is most likely due to the cost of the entrance fee. Which is super low, I mean the moment we get the tickets, already in my mind is how could this helped maintain the place🤔 Sure enough, it shows. Saw some renovation being done right by the entrance though, however they should really spruce up the interiors and showcase pieces. I mean the glass case that holds the giant prehistoric Mammoth tusk is broken with a huge hole😳 Sigh, come on management, I sure hope u guys would improve them all and get more crowd to come visit.

Actually it’s a great museum. The collection of the museum was great, from pre historic until recent history, from archaeological, stones, until history of Javanese culture. But, there’s no clear concept how the visitor enjoy and learn from the museum. It will be better if the museum have some clear concept and have one way to enter until exit and have the full history experiences. Cheap ticket entrance.

This museum surprisingly displayed unexpected features you know. And funnily many Semarang inhabitants don't know about what is inside. You'll find a socio-geological history packed in neat wooden furniture. I ensure you to find a new wonderful experience while hanging around there, because this historical place isn't like another cliche and boring museum. Also, luckily there is an AC so you won't be dehydrated okay. But unfortunately, the second floor wasn't covered with AC. Then, that's fine to look around the first floor only if you can't handle the heat. The other surprising aspect was a 3D show. Telling us about the dinosaur ever existed. Btw, I've just to know that mammoth was existing in the last on Java's land. This museum is truly educating!

Great museum with huge collection. Here, you could learn geology, history, and culture of Java from various artifacts, fossils, dioramas, and many other historical displays. Tickets are cheap, and there's locker in the lobby. Also, there's large parking area which may benefit tour groups and families with car or bus. However, when I came (it was on Saturday), there's no tour guide while some displays are not accompanied with any plaque or description sheet, so it was not a very satisfactory visit.

Taman Budaya Raden Saleh (TBRS) is conveniently located in the city center on Jalan Sriwijaya no 29, surrounded by serene greenery. The park features a vibrant mural and graffiti wall, as well as a statue of Raden Saleh at the entrance. It serves as a venue for various cultural events such as theater performances and music shows. Additionally, it offers delicious food options and ample space for artistic expression.
A nice place for attending cultural event. Can do graduation and wedding party. Large parking area. Have canteen and prayer place.

this place has many buildings that function differently. this place seeing is used as a place to perform various kinds of artwork. one of them is theater art that is often held in this place. but the existence of toilets is very difficult to find. many food and beverage sellers sell them at relatively expensive prices. This place is suitable. For those of you who have an artistic spirit

I like the Raden Culture Park because this place is not right next to the highway, it just goes in so it is calmer. The main room This place is usually used for performing theaters, music shows and others, for the front architecture the main entrance part is still simple but in good condition. There is also a devout raden park that provides many delicious food - delicious, and other spaces. Hopefully it can continue to be a place for students to fund the work of the community.

Is a very large place with lots of large trees. Especially large and tall banyan trees. There is also a canteen, and a spacious theater room. A large yard can be a separate parking space. There the cultural elements are very felt because the room is still fairly simple. And of course the place is cool and comfortable.
Sania W — Google review
Good place for shows but not quite accessible because the road inside the place is damaged and tires you if you have to walk around a lot. There are a lot of kiosks selling food and beverages inside so you don't have to worry about being thirsty and hungry. You can grab a quick bite.

Taman Budaya Raden Saleh This park is one of the cultural parks located in the area of Semarang. The first time I went there was a cultural theater there. It has a very large parking lot but has a large tree that makes the atmosphere a bit scary. There are also stalls available for eat and drink. This place should be a place that can be preserved, because in this place beginner artists begin to hang their dreams in this place. Even though in the future you have to pay it doesn't matter as long as this place is maintained

Nice shady place to chill and hangout alone or with your friends, especially in hour 11-15 when the sun boiling the city. There is also food stalls that sell food, snacks and drinks. One cons: the pavement is kinda rough although it paved. The indigenous people (javanese) said TBRS is kinda sacred place, so make sure not joking around there.

Kampung Batik Gedong Semarang is a must-visit shopping attraction for batik enthusiasts. Located on Batik street, it's a hub for local artisans to showcase and sell their unique creations directly to visitors. Despite its small number of stores, the area offers affordable and high-quality batik, along with friendly storekeepers. The village provides insight into the production of batik and introduces new motifs.
I recommend dropping by this quaint hidden gem when in Semarang, near Museum Kota Lama. Not very many shops, but there is enough variety of local handcrafted batik to admire, and to cater to every budget if you wish to buy. Also a good place to take photos of the pretty murals.

I came here expecting to see lots of batik options, like it's name. However, it was mostly empty. Sure, there were I think a couple of shops? But it wasn't enough to be called Kampung Batik. Maybe I came at the wrong time. It was so hot as there weren't so many shades. Great idea of a place, but they need more batik experiences.

This church can be regarded as the Capital of The Archdiocese of Semarang. The cathedral is look stunning and beautiful. Have a mass here is cozy because there are Air Conditioners inside this place. Beside this church you can see and pray at a small park with quite huge Holy Cross and Pieta Sculpture. Behind the seats, you can find also place to pray to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to Mother Mary. This cathedral is easily accessible since located adjacent to several well-known place at the heart of Semarang, such as Tugu Muda, Simpang Lima, Jalan Pandanaran, etc. Many public transportation go in front of the complex, such as Trans Semarang and angkot. I am surprised that in the complex of the cathedral, I can also find several ATM.

My friends and I decided to explore this sport club and restaurant, and it was an exquisite culinary experience. The food was not only fancy but also visually pleasing and incredibly delicious. But this is the issue we had : The service were almost perfect, but when we were eating the staffs did some preparation for incoming events so the dust were flying around near our table and food. We also heard some of them were rudely joking with some taboo words, kinda inapprotiate for those who still eating near them. None of them seems care to apologize. Hopefully it could be better in the near future. Overall Lakers is a fancy place and left quite an impression for us. R&D.

Very nice place to enjoy your family time, there's swimming pool, lot of instagramable place, there's outdoor playground also you can bring your kid to the minizoo here, tickets for swimming pool area and minizoo are cheap because there's end year promo until December 2023 (15k for Minizoo and 40k for swimming pool). Minizoo ticket already include food for feeding the animal inside. For the restaurant, food are ok, price still acceptable.

It was raining when I came here but everything was good. The staff are helpful and guide us to choose our table. It has many foods and drinks but unfortunately the pizza wasn't ready to order yet. There's live music and indoor/outdoor area with very beautiful view. And i think the taste is good with normal price of course.

Though I was born and raised in this city, finally I just came to this place yesterday. Very beautiful at night. I wish I had come earlier to enjoy sunset by swimming into this place. The price is about 80-100/person (if you order food and drink). They gave big portion of food. Fair enough. Nice

My favorite place in BSB City so far. It has a good restaurant with variety of food and beverages option. The olio aglio pasta is excellent. The food portion is big! The swimming pool is beautiful and good size, there are also 3 mini pools for kids. The shower facilities is clean with hot water. Lots of entertainment for kids such as mini playground, mini zoo and koi pond. The view is also very beautiful from here overlooking the lake. The fee for swimming is IDR 30k for BSB resident or 40k for public. The playground is free.

Grand Maerakaca, also known as "Taman Mini Jawa Tengah," is a recreational retreat in Semarang that offers a glimpse into the traditional houses and cultures of Central Java. Visitors can explore various examples of traditional houses, take a leisurely mangrove walk, and even enjoy the water area with canoeing activities. The location near Ahmad Yani International Airport makes it an ideal starting point for historical exploration in Semarang.
Prettiest mangrove forest ive ever visited. Better to come in the morning so not many people around and good to take some pics. I enjoyed my time here. Awesome. They also have Lumina spot where there are many houses from many countries.

Tourist attraction in Semarang. This place kinda looks like Taman Mini Indonesia but consisted only Central Java Area. There are many replicas of Javanese House from Jepara, Kudus, Semarang, Grobogan, Rembang, etc. There is also Mangrove Forest best for jogging, or just strolling around. They also added bew area for overseas replicas such as Japan, Mexico, or Santorini. Yet the maintenance is still lacking. The place is very boring. And also very hot due to located in Semarang coastal area. need more improvement to attract more people to come here.

I visited during the Lights Wonderland event, and the place was beautifully decorated with aesthetic lights at night, good for photos. The area is very spacious, and there are plenty of food stalls along the way, so it’s nice for strolling and snacking. However, while walking around, I sometimes caught unpleasant smells, probably from the nearby riverbank. Still, it’s a unique spot to enjoy an evening out with family or friends.

It is a large park with affordable entrance fee, yet it is so poorly maintained. It seems like an abandones tourism attraction. This sbould get better management and revitalisation. They have mangrove area, lake, cultural houses, and cafetaria.

An abandoned tourist attraction in semarang. It used to be famous as taman mini in jateng, but now it's quite pathetic. There are a lot of facilities that are left behind, we came in the weekend but it's so quiet, just a few people come here

Nice tourism attraction with poorly maintenance. This mini park contains traditional model houses and icon from many district/city regional in Central Java, mangrove forest, duck boat, mini train, and playground and so on. Good place to learn about Central Java but need more renovation, add some explanatory information boards/tools and sign-board. There are some good food stalls before the entrance

Great place if you want a short escape during your busiest time. You could also try to rent a boat or something at their lake(?) with an affordable price. This is also what I called as "Taman Mini Jawa Tengah" as they show us a traditional house/culture for each place in Central Java. But please, do not expect too much from this place. You get what you pay.

If you're interested in knowing about Central Java, visited this place is one of the best choice. It feels like you walk around Central Java. And it can be a place for healing.. there are a lot of mangrove here.. The ticket is only Rp.20.000 on the weekend. I recommend you to buy some snacks and drinks first before enter the place.. or just bring it from home.. Happy holiday .. :)

Saint Joseph Catholic Church, also known as Gereja Gedangan, is a remarkable historical landmark nestled in the heart of Semarang, Indonesia. Constructed between 1870 and 1875 by Dutch architect WI van Bakel in a stunning neo-Gothic style, this vibrant red brick church stands out against the backdrop of the old town's colonial heritage. This church, with its distinctive architecture, has served as a significant landmark and a place of worship for the local Catholic community for many years. It is known for its rich history, beautiful design, and the role it has played in the religious and cultural life of Semarang.

I love this church very much. It is sited at the area of old town in Semarang, the area of Dutch colonial heritage which has been successfuly restored. The church itself was built in 1870 - 1875, architectured by WI van Bakel (Dutch) in neogothic style. As the first in Semarang, the church is full with history of Roman Catholic cultivation in the town and Central Java. The late Monsigneur Albertus Soegijapranata (the first Indonesian bishop) stayed here, in the Gedangan church presbytery (Saint Joseph Church is also called Gedangan Church). I highly recommend you (whatever your belief is) to visit this church and (for you if you are a Catholic) to attend the eucharist mass...

A typical red church stands on Ronggowarsito St. (Dutch: Kloosterstraat). The red colour comes from red bricks specifically brought from the Netherlands. Saint Joseph's Church is one of the oldest Catholic churches in Java. The first Indonesian vicar apostolic, Mgr. Soegijapranata had his seat as well as took parish duties in this church. . In the early of 1800's, Catholicism entered Semarang. A congregation was established by Father Prinsen who was in charge of handling Catholic religious duty. Due to the lack of fund, the congregation did not have a church. In accordance, Catholic communities had held a weekly mass in Immanuel Church (today Gereja Blenduk), a Protestant basis church. When a Dutch governor paid a visit, he concerned with the situation. Then he proposed a fund to the colonial government to build a church. Designed by Van Bakel, a Dutch architect, the church was built in 1870. With ups and downs during the construction, this first Catholic church in Semarang was finally finished in 1875. It was blessed by Mgr. Joseph Lijnen. . St. Joseph's church is highly decorated. A Gothic altar stands in the front. Two unique chandelier lightings are hanging on the ceiling. A lot of stained glass windows, which depicting holy saints, produce soft ray of light inside the church. On the 2nd floor, a pipe organ is decorating magnificently, eventhough, it is no longer functional because of the aged machinery.

The Marabunta Building, a concert hall constructed for Dutch settlers in 1825, has been transformed into a popular bar and restaurant. This historical landmark in Semarang showcases stunning architecture and houses an extensive spirits list and exceptional cocktail menu. The cuisine served here deeply respects the multicultural traditions of the Javanese port city. Visitors can enjoy the flavors, aromas, and textures of dishes like Serawan and other Javanese classics.
A historical building that was built in 1824 during the Dutch colonial era which was used as a concert, opera and meeting hall, is in the 'Kota Lama' Semarang (Old Town) area, this place is called Marabunta with the Semut (ant) icon at the top of this building. Now this building is a restaurant and bar with many choices of food, drinks, cocktail, beer and liquor available. The ambient space in the inside of this restaurant is very depicting the situation of the colonial era with the use of lights, ornamentation and decoration which makes the atmosphere even more dramatic. All corners of the room are excellent photo spots, spacious room but not too many tables, so it is better if you make a reservation before visiting. If you are a fan of live music, every night starting at 7 o'clock it will make the atmosphere seem to have returned to the past. A highly recommended place for you to visit.

As for drinks, I recommend trying out juice and vodka. Overall, Marabunta Restaurant and Bar is a great place to experience delicious food and lively music in Semarang. Note! Please make a reservation prior to coming since they are eligible to reject guests if they haven't make a reservation before. You could also ask about the minimal charge that they have.

Slow paced service, need to wait a bit long to be served. Probably since the place still new, it’s like they’re understaffed and their in training waiters are still confused about the menu even the name of the menu. They need to learn more in serving while doing physical distancing. I still got my order wrong even though it’s already been repeated before. The roasted peri peri chicken was too dry, the salted egg prawn aglio olio was good, the ribeye was bleh, the lychee and peach ice tea were too bland to taste. Food and beverages prices are above common rate so it’s pricey yet sadly the experinece is just okay. However, the place was great, really good ambience and a nice place to eat. You can feel the ‘European vintage’ style they offer. Valet parking is provided and it is free. It is best to the reservations first before coming.

I had the chance to visit Dusun Semilir in Bawen, Semarang Regency, and it was a delightful experience overall. The all-access ticket is very affordable compared to the variety of attractions offered, making it excellent value for money. Parking is spacious and convenient, and the place is family-friendly, especially for children. With the all-access pass, you can expect to explore and enjoy most of the attractions in about four hours. Another plus point is that the queues are minimal, so you can maximize your time without spending it standing in line. In that sense, it truly feels worth every penny. The only downside is the heat during midday. It can get quite intense, so I would recommend visiting after 2 PM for a more comfortable experience. Overall, Dusun Semilir is a fun, affordable, and well-organized destination for families looking for a short getaway.

Equally important, the clean and well-maintained restrooms made the visit comfortable and pleasant. Too bad it's not developed well by the local government. It's actually naturally beautiful if it has better access to enter the waterfall. The most important thing to be concerned is the visitors' safety who want to see it. The access to enter the waterfall is so dangerous and slippery. It's should be taken into consideration by the local government. Also the facilities, like toilet should be improved to make the visitors feel comfortable.
Dessy S — Google review
Honestly, I enjoyed the ambiance cause when I got there, there were only few people by the waterfall. Thou the place is suitable for campaign as well. There are few concerns that bothers me a lot. I feel like the water somehow looks dirty and bridge needs to be fixed. Regular maintenance needs to be done ASAP. The local people also the government need to be aware of this situation otherwise this amazing place will be forgotten sooner than later.

Curug means waterfall. This place just founded by locals on 2010, and is being built to be a tourist spot, that's why when we came (Sept 2018), not many people there. But the way to get there by car was pretty challenging 😁 There is a story about this place, that it once used by 7 fairies who took a bath here to free themselves from curse. Ticket price for entrance was IDR 5K (local)

Curug this one has a unique name namely Curug 7 Bidadari. This name is not arbitrarily given to waterfalls located in Keseneng Village, Sumowono, Semarang, Central Java. Curug 7 Bidadari has three levels with 7 waterfalls and 7 naturally formed ponds. Once you set foot on Curug 7 Bidadari, visitors are presented with views of the waterfall with clear water. The freshness of the waterfall makes visitors want to immediately dive into the waterfall that comes from the spring of Mount Ungaran.

I visited Saloka Park with my kids during the holiday, and we had such a fun time! The playgrounds were clean and safe, and there were plenty of rides for all ages. The staff was friendly, and the whole park was well-maintained. It was a perfect family day out. we’ll definitely come back!

There's many rides that can be tried. I got discount 20k because already pay tax. This is my second time visit here. So much fun although I afraid of hight, but still can enjoy it. This area also children friendly so all family members can enjoy to play here. The staff also so humble. With 130k, really satisfied to spend a whole day here since open to close and can try all the rides as much as you want to try without any additional fee. So 130k is all in, really affordable.

The place is big and spacious. It is very clean and park decorations are welcoming. The rides are fun for kids 10 and below, but not exciting enough for older kids and adults. When we were there, there were a couple of water rides that were under repair. We finished going through the park in about 2 hours on a quiet weekday.

A theme park located on salatiga/ambarawa border. The area isn't very big, but still pretty spacious and a lot of to do in this theme park. For those who seek for thrill, they have a few ride you must try. Other than the few thrilling ride, it is very family friendly, almost all of your family member can enjoy this theme park. Entrance fee is fixed, but after that you can try all the ride inside without additional charge. It takes around 2-3 hours to explore this amusement park when it is not crowded.

PlaPlay, an indoor theme park, offers exciting entertainment for children. However, it may not provide the same level of enjoyment for teenagers and young adults. Additionally, there seems to be a limited selection of food options available at the venue. It appears that PlaPlay is not fully operational as several areas are still under construction, particularly the food court. Despite these limitations, the overall quality of PlaPlay is deemed satisfactory; it just requires more effective promotion to attract a wider audience.

The Grand Wheel at Citragrand offers an enjoyable and affordable experience, especially for families or groups looking for a quick thrill. At IDR 10,000 per ticket, it's a budget-friendly way to get a bird’s-eye view of the surroundings, though the view may not be as stunning as anticipated, depending on the time of day and weather. While the ride itself is fun, the overall experience can feel a bit basic. The wheel moves at a relaxed pace, making it suitable for kids and those who want a gentle experience. However, the facilities around the ride, such as seating and shade, could be improved to enhance comfort while waiting in line. In conclusion, the Grand Wheel is a decent attraction given its low cost, but it doesn’t offer anything extraordinary. It's a good option if you’re already at Citragrand and want to try something different, but not necessarily a destination-worthy experience on its own.

Nestled within the stunning Candi Gedong Songo complex, Ayanaz Gedongsongo is an outdoor theme park that offers a delightful blend of relaxation and photography opportunities. Accessible by car, this charming spot features replica temples and lounging areas that boast breathtaking mountain views. While it may be smaller than expected, with around 12-15 photo spots spread across three levels, each corner is designed to satisfy your selfie cravings.
The place is a photo spot located inside Candi Gedong Songo complex, which located in a mountain (it is accessible by car). I would say it is better you come to Ayanaz because you want to visit Candi rather than the other way around. To enter you have to pay 15K per person on Ayanaz entrance, this is additional to Candi entrance fee (which is also 15K or 20K I forgot). The place is small compared what I thought. It has..12-15 photo spots in three levels. And there's food stall near the entrance. Pretty much that's it.

Anybody notices they don't even bother to edit out the watermark on banner? You have to pay 20k idr per person to enter; and you couldn't even buy stock photos image? Shame on you Ayanaz 😒 Other than beautiful views of the mountain, I can't enjoy anything here. Place is relatively small and crowded. People only come here to take photos. It's the sad truth for Indonesia tourist attractions.

Been living in this area for my whole life but never tried the fruit garden tour. It was cheap, 25k on the weekend and got food discount coupon + small plants for your to grow, which is very nice. Tried their restaurant. The price is not that expensive, clean, the waitresses are attentive, everything was served hot and the taste of the food is nice as well.
