History Museums
The Cyprus Museum, located just outside the Old City walls, is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. It boasts an extensive collection of archaeological artifacts from various excavations across the island. From pottery to sculptures, the museum showcases treasures dating back as far as 9000 BCE, offering a fascinating journey through Cyprus's rich history.
I visited the museum in July, and it was one of the most tangible beautiful museums I've been to. Small, picturesque, with aesthetics that suits a country in a warm climate like our Cyprus. The exhibits are rich and varied. A large number for such a small country. The employees of the building were excellent and pleasant. The Garden is enchanting and hosts a nice little café. In summary, the feelings he left me were one of admiration for the culture of Cyprus and its heritage. The museum gives you a sense of Friendly and family-friendly. It is the duty of Cypriots and Greeks to preserve this legacy left to us by our ancestors. Visit it!

The oldest and largest archaeological museum in Cyprus houses artifacts discovered allover the island from idfferent periods of time. The Cyprus Museum was founded in 1882 during the British occupation of the island following a petition by the Cypriot people, delivered by a delegation headed by the religious leaders of both Christian and Muslim populations. Beautiful building and very interesting artefacts to be found here.
Bogdan B — Google review
great museum to get to know about the ancient history of cyprus. I was actually caught off-guard by the abundance of the artifacts presented here from all around the island. free entrance and free cold water with entrance were also nice little touches. Has a chill little cafe in it's beautiful backyard. The architecture of the museum building itself is also beautiful.
Bugra O — Google review
The Archaeological Museum presents the rich history of Cyprus in a compelling way. The Museum has free entry and you need about an hour to explore it. Many important artifacts are on display, and it's fascinating to recognize their historical significance. The exhibition rooms are thoughtfully divided into categories: jewelry, statues, burial ceremonies, etc, which makes it easier to explore different aspects of the past. However, a bit more signage would help visitors better connect the dots and follow the historical timeline. The architecture of the building is equally impressive. I’m truly looking forward to visiting the new Archaeological Museum and taking the time to view the artifacts as they deserve to be seen: with respect and admiration.
Andreas M — Google review
Instead of going to the check point straight away after getting off at Solomon Square, I visited the FREE Cyprus Museum first. During the 6-7 minutes' walk, I also came across the city wall. The high quality of the exhibits in the museum really surprised me. The jewelleries could still be in fashion nowadays. The terracotta army were so well preserved. Actually, all the other terracotta objects really interested me. Overall, the history of Cyprus has been well documented.
Joyce . — Google review
Interesting and well organised museum in Nicosia. Free entry in beginning of November. I highly recommend this place.
Галин Г — Google review
Surprisingly closing hours were 6 PM and they started denying the entries around 5.30 onwards and wrapping up their bags. I requested but they mentioned, we have to close all the rooms and all so can't allow you now. I mentioned about timings but they softly denied the entry. Located very close to bus station and other main attractions. No charges, free of cost entry in the Museum.
Mahesh S — Google review
Open museum, with free entry. No need to buy tickets or anything. It's a smaller museum, but still worth visiting if you're around. Has a nice cafe outside and museum shop available.

Located on the eastern side of South Nicosia, Cyprus, Famagusta Gate is a prominent old gateway landmark that underwent restoration in the early 1980s. It serves as more than just an entrance, also hosting outdoor concerts and exhibitions. The gate house features a distinctive spherical dome and the surrounding road has been carefully restored to its original character. With its main exhibition area and two side halls, there's always something interesting to see at Famagusta Gate.
One of my favourite places to walk and get immersed in old traditional cypriot architecture. There are lots of little streets you can walk and get lost in ✨ It's a great place for an afternoon walk
PRS — Google review
Historical landmark and can be visited anytime during the day.

One of the few remaining gates left in Nicosia which is preserved and looking very nice and sharp nowadays. Well worth the walk to see it in person.

A landmark to visit when you’re in Nicosia. Perhaps start your journey from Famagusta Gate down to Venetian walls to the city Center.

There's not much to see except the gate and a piece of the Venetian wall.

The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia is a historical treasure located within the Venetian Walls of the old city. Housed in two restored 19th-century merchant mansions, it offers a comprehensive journey through Nicosia's rich and intricate history.
The «Sector 2: Nicosia» exhibition is truly remarkable! The whole museum has a wonderful showcase of the history of the island. Many interactive stations. But the job they did with the division of the city, is something else! Truly amazing! Bravo!
Sasha G — Google review
The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia is a fascinating cultural institution that offers a deep dive into the history and heritage of Nicosia and Cyprus. Located in the heart of the city, the museum showcases a wide range of exhibits, including archaeological artifacts, historical items, and works of art that span centuries of Cypriot history. The museum’s carefully curated collections provide insight into the island’s ancient civilizations, colonial past, and modern developments. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the rich cultural tapestry of Nicosia and Cyprus.
Dani B — Google review
Very interesting artifacts regarding Cyprus history and culture throughout the different eras. Centrally located and an escape away from the sun in an A/C controlled environment. Highly recommended A+
Pegasios P — Google review
Highly recommended! And best of all, it's free to enter! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. The exhibitions are rich and diverse, with detailed explanations that cover Nicosia’s history from ancient times to the modern era. There are plenty of interactive elements and short videos throughout the museum. My personal favorite was the audiobook storytelling section, which brought the stories to life in a really engaging way. There are also lots of life-sized dolls dressed in historical costumes, surrounded by carefully recreated environments and historical objects; it honestly felt like stepping back in time. A wonderful place to learn, explore, and feel immersed in Cyprus’s history.
NANA D — Google review
This museum is really exceptional! They did an excellent job, showcasing the development of the city from early ages on. You should plan enough time to properly explore the place which stretches over several floors. Even I haven’t seen the Cyprus museum yet, I think both should be visited for a full understanding. Best thing, the museum is free of charge.
Michael K — Google review
We were completely struck by this museum. Starting from the first floor and going upwards, we could trace the history of the city, influenced by so many cultures through the centuries. The exhibits made a great impact on us, realizing that Lefkosia/Nicosia was shaped by so many important historical figures and events. From ancient times, this settlement has had multinational character, still to this day. The temporary exhibit on the 2nd floor about the Green Line and the current divide inside the city was quite imactful. Totally worth a visit! The entrance is free and it is open on Sundays as well.
Sunny P — Google review
Probably the best museum in Cyprus. Modern, interactive, housed in an architectural gem, has something for everyone whether you are a seasoned archaeologist or just a curious tourist.

Located in North Nicosia, Cyprus, Büyük Han is a prime example of medieval Ottoman craftsmanship and architecture. Built in the early 1570s at the request of the island's first Ottoman governor, it has undergone recent renovations and now hosts traditional shops and handicraft workshops. Originally a caravanserai for weary travelers along the Silk Road, Büyük Han is now a celebrated landmark and arts and crafts market with a central café.
Büyük Han is an absolutely charming and truly remarkable place to visit. Stepping inside feels like travelling back in time, as it beautifully showcases the old Cypriot culture and traditional architecture. The historic stone courtyard, lined with little shops and artisan workshops, creates a warm and authentic atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere. It’s a wonderful spot to wander around, soak up the history, and enjoy a coffee or traditional sweets while surrounded by centuries-old arches and stone walls. Every corner tells a story, and you can really feel the heritage of the island here. Whether you’re interested in history, local crafts, or simply want to experience the unique charm of old Cyprus, Büyük Han is an absolute must-visit.

Wow - this is an amazing place to visit. Entering the building feels like travelling back in time - with the old Cypriot culture and traditional architecture. The stone courtyard, lined with little shops and artisan workshops, is terrific. It’s a good spot to enjoy a coffee or traditional sweet, while surrounded by centuries-old arches and stone walls. Büyük Han is a must-visit.
Norm P — Google review
Built in 1572 by the Ottomans, supposedly to celebrate the successful taking over of the islands from the Venetians, the Buyuk Han (the Great Inn in Turkish) is now a large bazaar on the Turkish Cypriot side of Nicosia / Lefkosia, with a small mosque in its centre. It has that singular oriental vibe imbued within it, so visiting it is a truly specific experience highly recommended to anyone visiting the northern part of the divided city. Some very interesting items are on display that can be bought here for very affordable prices. Although, if you're supposed to cross the border over back to the southern side, I'm not sure whether there would be any issues with the border patrol. Still, a site very much worth visiting.
Nikola R — Google review
Büyük Han is one of the most impressive historical landmarks in the heart of Nicosia. Built in 1572 during the Ottoman period, it is beautifully preserved and offers a real sense of history. The courtyard is wide and atmospheric, surrounded by stone arches and traditional architecture. Inside, there are small artisan shops, souvenir stores, and cozy cafés. Sitting in the courtyard with a coffee is a very relaxing experience. The entrance is free, and the location is very central, just a short walk from Ledra Street and the main attractions of the old town. It can get busy on weekends, so coming earlier in the day is a good idea. Overall, it’s both a cultural and relaxing spot — definitely a must-visit for anyone coming to North Cyprus.
Aren S — Google review
An unexpected surprise! The han is superbly renovated with small artisanal shops all over. We loved its vibe and the fact that you can get a coffee inside as well (even though those umbrellas look awful)
Bogdan H — Google review
Absolutely a must see on this side of the capital. It's a calm oasis, with lots of small shops and a cafe in the middle to drink some turkish coffee/tea. Good prices and kind staff too
Trix L — Google review
Great traditional coaching inn now housing small arts and crafts units and a decent size bar/restaurant. You need €1 to use the loos. We have bought several quaint items here over the years.
Adrian W — Google review
My favorite landmark of the city! Loved it so much. Such a nice architecture, historical gem. Lovely for taking photos and just chilling as well. There is a paid toilet, restaurants and souvenir shops.

Botanical garden
Athalassa National Forest Park, located in the southeast of Nicosia, is a sprawling 840-hectare green area and the largest in the capital. The park features a picturesque landscape with an abundance of trees and shrubs, creating an oasis-like atmosphere. Its main attraction is a stunning lake where swans and ducks gracefully glide across the water, adding to the park's scenic charm.
Athalassa National Forest Park is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and outdoor activities. The walking and cycling paths are well-maintained and perfect for all ages, and the serene lake with its ducks and birds adds a magical touch. The park is spacious, with plenty of picnic spots and a fantastic playground for children, making it ideal for family outings
Panayiotis G — Google review
A beautiful park where you instantly become one with nature. The lake, birds of different species, the tall trees etc are a sight to behold. Whether for running, walking, streching, or just relaxing, I strongly recommend the Athalassa National Forest Park. Oh did I mention coffee shop, toilet and a vast car park? This park has it all and very idle for small gatherings and celebrations in the wood. Think about your next birthday, retreat, yoga, meditation, picnic, this park exudes a peaceful, calm and refreshing atmosphere.
Claudia L — Google review
This is a lovely place for a walk, watch the ducks, play with your kids, have a picnic or play at the playground. The toilets are not clean, and the toys too. There is a mini market if you need a drink or snack in the park. The parking is plenty but in the weekend it might be full.
Rafaella G — Google review
Very beautiful and joyful place! Also, you can meet and feed some stray cats
Iuliia ( — Google review
Lovely park with a little pond/lake/reservoir with swans and ducks. They have walking path and bike path too. We went there to walk and took about 1h to go around all the way. Simple park, well maintained.

Serenity at its best. Walk, run, bike, its for everyone. Even the outdoor kids playground and the small coffee shop are adorable.

This place is a little paradise right next to the busiest city of the country. It is a great place to relax in nature either by walking or riding the trails with a bike or you can just sit and enjoy a snack by the small cafeteria. You can have a great time with family and friends and especially of you have children that can enjoy the playground.

Located on the 11th floor, Shacolas Tower Museum and Observatory offers panoramic views of the old city along with exhibits and old photographs. Situated within the Venetian Walls, it provides unparalleled views to the north. Equipped with binoculars and telescopes, the museum also features an exhibit on the history of Old Nicosia.
The ticket cost is 2,5 euros and the observatory is on the 11th floor. I would say the visit was totally worth it, the view of the city can be admired from the windows and there are also some interesting facts listed on the walls.
Ioana P — Google review
A nice view point from which to glean a general outlook of the city and its history. Well-placed plaques and interactive touchscreen tablets facilitate endeavours at comprehending the complex history of this divided city. Although some information needs to be slightly updated in light of the developing city skyline, most of the crucial information is accurate and relevant. If it's your first time visiting the city, I would think that this would be a good starting point from which to begin exploring.
Nikola R — Google review
A little tricky to find but worth the effort as it provides a good vantage point from which to obtain a general view across the city and the surrounding area. There are various plaques and interactive touchscreen tablets showing the complex history of this divided city. Perhaps a little out of date but the most of the information is still accurate and relevant. A good starting point from which to begin exploring.

This is the tallest building in Nicosia, definitely worth stopping by to get oriented with the divided capital. It is located in an office-looking building; just take the elevator to the top floor. Watch the film (available in different languages) to learn a bit more about the Cyprian history. Nice selections of souvenirs too.
Cindy W — Google review
It's a must visit spot, as it gives you an amazing view of the occupied city centre as well as a historical overview, with time lines and old photographs. It's a shame that the video available to watch at the tower is very bad quality, especially keeping in mind today's technology. Shiakolas group could do better on this one.
Alexandrina I — Google review
If you want to see a 360° view of Nicosia, you should visit this tower. Entrance is on the side of the h&m store. With the elevator you can go to the 11th floor. After paying €2,50 per person on top you get a nice view of Nicosia. Above in the tower there is information about the city, a video which tells the history of the city and some beverages which you can buy. There is airconditioning at the top! The place is tiny.
David W — Google review
Disappointing experience — not worth the entry fee. Entrance costs €2.50, but most of the interactive screens weren’t working, the windows were dirty (which is surprising for a viewing point), and the view itself wasn’t particularly special. The building was also very hot — likely due to poor or no air conditioning. Worst of all, the restrooms were extremely dirty. Overall, this place should be free or cost no more than €1

Nestled just outside the Old City, A. G. Leventis Gallery is a treasure trove for art enthusiasts, having opened its doors in 2014. This private gallery boasts an impressive collection of over 800 artworks that span centuries and styles, featuring masterpieces from renowned Cypriot, Greek, and European artists like Renoir, Monet, Chagall, and Canaleto.
Thoroughly enjoyed this personal, yet diverse collection of precious objects and paintings. Affordable admission fee, 5 Euros. Nice cafe attached to the museum, bonus! Of all the museums we took in in Nicosia, I thought this one has the best gift shop, bonus! The sister city museum is also fantastic., don't miss it (free admission there).

A private collection that became public. A great gift from A. Leventis for the future generations. A very educative collection consists of European, Greek , Cypriot and some Asian artefacts. Few époques, a few pièces of art of each shown in three storey modern building give us a great example of how fine arts developed through the time until nowadays. Some famous names as El Greco, Renoir or Canaletto are on the walls. Fashionable souvenir shop and a cosy Zest cafe at the entrance.

Art Museums
Located within the Archbishop's Palace in Nicosia, the Byzantine Museum showcases a remarkable array of Byzantine art and religious relics. Visitors can admire religious icons, mosaics, 10th-century frescoes, and intricately crafted artifacts that provide a captivating insight into Cyprus's Byzantine heritage. The museum offers a chance to appreciate the stunning frescoes at Agios Ioannis Cathedral and explore an impressive collection of paintings and religious objects.
This is an excellent, comprehensive collection of Byzantine religious artifacts from various sources throughout Cyprus. Importantly, it includes items recovered from art smugglers who ransacked churches in the illegally occupied north part of the island. All items are fully visible and well lit, with comprehensive explanations on nearby placards in both Greek and English. I was disappointed by their "no photography" policy, which forced me to purchase a catalogue from their gift shop (which is woefully understocked). The items on display are thoughtfully curated, leading the visitor through several time periods, showing the progression of artistic techniques and influences through the ages. Several informative views and computer-controlled displays presented additional information which was worthwhile. I was especially impressed by the video documenting the repatriation of a 13th century fresco depicting the Virgin Mary flanked by two angels. It was originally stolen from a church in the north, then purchased by an American art collector who displayed it in Texas for 15 years. After watching the video, I rounded a corner in the museum where the fresco itself is on display. It was a dramatic and moving experience! So, my advice is to visit this museum if ever you are in Nicosia, and allow yourself several hours to truly appreciate the masterpieces on display there.
Robin W — Google review
The museum is a wonderful one. I recommend the visit as it has an incredible collection of orthodox church iconography. The only negative there are no discounts for students or over 65. It is the first museum that I visit that doesn't give discounts.

all paintings worth the visit, but the lady at the counter selling tickets destroyed the whole experience with her arrogance. she doesn’t respect school IDs (official IDs issued by the member of EU) so she can make you pay more. general practise in Cyprus is that students tickets are free. also, the lady likes to look into people’s wallets and to comment what’s in there. would highly question going there.

Worth seeing the Byzantine Museum. I especially recommended for connoisseurs of Orthodox art. You visit may takes around 2 hours because there is a lot to see there. First of all, there is a splendid collection of beautiful and unique Orthodox icons. Truly immense iconostasis. Secondly, you'll see charming Byzantine mosaics there. The Byzantine Museum has many other artifacts and items related to the liturgy of Orthodoxy. You shouldn't take pictures inside. I was a visitor in this splendid Museum in November 2018.

The Cyprus Folk Art Museum, located in a 15th-century Gothic building that was once the Archbishop's Palace, offers a fascinating collection of traditional Cypriot handicrafts. Established in the 1930s to preserve folk art threatened by industrialization, the museum houses over 5,000 items including pottery, embroidery, metalwork, carpentry, basket-weaving and more. Visitors can explore historic agricultural tools such as oil mills and water mills alongside intricate decorative pieces.

Fascinating collection of everyday items from a 'bygone age'. Amazing how much work went into making and decorating ordinary objects. Life was slower-paced then. Better more informative signage would have made the experience more educational. Note this is not the same as the 'Ethnological Museum' 5 mins walk away. Woth a visit too.

It is a wonderful place and worth a visit for all esp. motorcycle lovers! Andreas is a very nice helpful guy with lots of stories to tell which we share as Cypriots🙏🏻 The museum is one of the biggest one among its kind and worth a visit to see all the effort Andreas and his son had put in such a rich collection ❤️🏍️

We visited to the Museum on Friday. It is a private collection of a person. It was Museum's 25th anniversary. The owner has a collection of 450 bikes but displayed only 150. He keeps rotating the display. Some bikes are gifted to him but mostly he purchased them and refurbished them to the original look. A must visit place for bike enthusiast. It is a walking distance from the Cyprus musem.
Prachiti T — Google review
The museum guide is truly knowledgeable about the history of the manufacturers and the models and about owning and using a bike in Cyprus. I came out enriched with useful information regarding suitable roads and routes for bike trips in the island, motorway regulations and the Cypriot second-hand market. And of course, lots interesting factoids and curiosities. I like it when a museum is run by people who can offer an expert opinion on the subject matter and will openly discuss it with you. I was also warmly welcomed!

Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Nicosia by visiting the 16th-century Ottoman bath, Hamam Omerye. This historical site has been transformed into a modern hammam and beauty spa, offering a range of luxurious treatments for ultimate relaxation. The distinctive dome and aromas create an unforgettable experience that reflects the town's diverse identity. Indulge in a rejuvenating massage on the marble slab under star-shaped openings that allow sunlight to diffuse over your body.
The best Haman in Nicosia, in a prime location in the city centre! Pamper yourself with the combo with foam, rubbing and massage..you deserve it !

Was a really nice experience, they had some good treatments ans the facility was really good Before the treatment is a 30min Hamam session where you're given a bowl and you scrub yourself in a heated room (~40oC) Tbh they could have done with a lot more instruction here as we weren't sure what to do But apart from that the treatments are good, would recommend the head, neck and shoulder massage and my girlfriend had a facial in the hot room which she enjoyed. They also provide you with some nice ginger tea, water and some cake and nuts/raisins

We were really looking forward to visiting here. We pre-booked a couples appointment for the 35 minute do it yourself bath. We were greeted with tea and water when we entered (but did not have time to drink as we seemed to be rushed), shown our private cabin, then directed to the bath. We thoroughly enjoyed this part and spent probably 30 minutes inside bathing. When we were done we used the showers and toilet and then went back to our cabin to relax a little with more tea and water. The reception said we could stay for up to 2 hours. As we were getting ready to leave, a worker came up to our cabin and in a rude way told us to be quiet as she was giving a massage (the cabin area is big room with other cabins). We weren't even loud. In any case we had to make some noise as we were getting dressed. It left a sour taste and memory of the place.

Omeriye Mosque, located in the southern section of Nicosia, has a rich history dating back to the 14th century. It was originally the site of the Augustinian Church of St Mary before being converted into a mosque in 1571. The mosque is known for its tall minarets and is considered a significant place of worship for Nicosia's diverse Arab and Asian Muslim communities. Visitors appreciate the mosque's beautiful architecture and well-maintained facilities.
Beautiful mosque 🕌 with beautiful people.
Mazin M — Google review
Following the turkish invasion of Cyprus, the mosque gained significance as one of the most important sites of Muslim worship in the non-Muslim section of the island and the city. The site of the mosque was originally occupied by the Augustinian Church of Saint Mary, which dated back to the 14th century, but it was destroyed. After the Turkish conquest of Cyprus, Lala Mustafa Pasha, the Ottoman commander, ordered a mosque to be built on the site of the former church,[2] based on a popular belief that Umar, second caliph of Islam, was buried at this site in 7th century. According to turkish cypriot folklore, the Ömeriye Mosque is the first mosque where turks prayed on the island following its conquest in 1571

Jummuah Khutbah started at 1.30pm and the Prayer started around 1.55pm. Large prayer area and a very basic and tired looking masjid. The Imaam had a very soothing Qiraat. I did not use the wudu facilities so I can not comment on that.

Great mosque, The cons: - The sermon is in Arabic only, since Cyprus has a diverse ethnicity in Nicosia, it would be better if it was in English Edit: the sheikh did an explanation in English at the end, I raise by one star my review. - Sometimes the microphone bugs and the sound system is saturating at every recitation or Athan, changing them would be great. The pros: - The mosque is beautiful and well maintained - The imam is nice and his sermon are good teachings - The ablution is working

The Monumento a la Libertad in Nicosia, Cyprus, is a striking tribute to the island’s history and the fight for freedom. Situated in the heart of the capital, this monument commemorates the sacrifices made by those who struggled for Cyprus’ independence and sovereignty. The monument’s design is both symbolic and powerful, reflecting themes of liberation and resilience. It’s an important historical landmark, offering visitors a moment of reflection on Cyprus’ complex past. A must-see for those interested in the island’s history and cultural heritage.

It is sad that countries can invade other countries just because they think the can own everything. Being an ex soldier and doing operational tours it brings back bad memories. Cyprus has always just been a Greek island until 50 years ago when Turkey thought they could just take it. It is like Russia trying to take over Ukraine just for greed. No consideration for the soldiers or the families left behind. Maybe Presidents and all government officials should do 6 years front line as soldiers before they can become government officials.

Today we drove (NE) to Nicosia (the historic capital of Cyprus). We were keen to visit, given the city’s historic tussle between Turkish and Greek occupation. The city is now essentially “cut in half” by a military demarcation zone. This empty ‘no man's land’ is known as the ‘green line’ - with empty shops and houses running straight through the centre of the city. Very eerie. There is a pedestrian border crossing which allowed us to ‘walk into Turkey’ for a few hours. Pretty cool.

The square, on its own, is very unique and futuristic, but personally, I feel like it is very out of place in Nicosia, like it doesn't really fit in with the city's general architecture and spirit. My main fault, though, is that it is so open and bare. In the scorching heat of the Cypriot Sun, you have a large city square with few to no trees. Honestly, I feel like any sort of flora would've been welcome to alleviate some of the brutal heat.

It is the second time we come to visit Nicosia by public transport (intercity bus) from Larnaca. The head of the line in Nicosia is the Eleftheria market. The area was set up quite futuristically, ornaments, fountains with lights, Christmas lights. Public toilets are also available but in a rather poor condition. In the Eleftheria market area, you have the impression that you are teleported to another geographical area, rather Asia. An explanation would be the abundance of "tourists" who haunt near the border with the Turkish side of the island.

Pros: The gate was built in 1567 by Venetians, as a part of the new city walls. It was restored by the Ottomans in 1821, and a lookout was added to the gate for a probable Greek revolt. Now, the gate is used as a tourism information office by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality. One of the historical landmarks in Nicosia. The area surrounding the gate has many restaurants, services and hotels. Overall rating is 08/10. Cons: There's nothing can complain about it.
Moataz M — Google review
As one of three gates in the Venetian city walls, it’s not as exciting as I expected but a must-see when visiting Lefkoşa nonetheless (the park next to it is a nice rest spot and dolmuş/minivan stop for Girne/Kyrenia is nearby).

The park features palm trees, blooming bushes, and ample space for picnics and family gatherings. It is a popular meeting place for immigrants from South Asia on Sundays. Additionally, visitors can enjoy cosmetic services and sample homemade international cuisine.
Congratulations to the Mayor of Nicosia and the Municipality for the wonderful cultural events being organized! These initiatives enrich our city, bring people together, and highlight Nicosia’s vibrant spirit.

Nice park and is well looked after, as apposed to other places in Nicosia. It would be good if the fish pond was cleaned more frequently as there is garbage inside. Nice little fountain to sit around. There are peacocks and ducks in cages, but they seem pretty well looked after. There is also a statue of Mahatma Gandhi which is nice to see. The park connects to the grammiko park (walk way)

Highlight is an avenue flanked by tall mature palm trees. There’s also cactus and other succulents. The fountains are also impressive. One star less for the caged peacocks which is sad to see.

Nicosia Municipal Park is a tranquil urban retreat nestled in the heart of the city, offering a refreshing escape from the bustling streets. The park boasts lush greenery, shaded walkways, and serene ponds adorned with water lilies and ducks, creating a picturesque setting for relaxation. Families will appreciate the well-maintained playground, while visitors can enjoy the presence of peacocks and other birds in the park’s small aviary. Open 24 hours, it’s an ideal spot for leisurely strolls, picnics, or simply unwinding amidst nature. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful walk, a family outing, or a moment of solitude, Nicosia Municipal Park provides a charming green space to enjoy in the city.

Selimiye Camii, located in North Nicosia, is a captivating blend of Gothic architecture and Islamic design. Originally a Catholic cathedral dating back to the 13th century, it was converted into a mosque in 1570. This airy mosque with white interior walls is an iconic symbol of Cyprus's cultural duality.
Beautifully Restored Mosque Worth Visiting After a long period of restoration, the mosque is finally open to visitors again — and it’s definitely worth a stop. The building has been beautifully restored, and it’s great to see it brought back to life in the heart of the city. What’s especially nice is that the mosque is open to all visitors, regardless of dress. If you’re not wearing the proper outfit, they provide appropriate clothing at the entrance so you can still go inside and enjoy the space respectfully. The interior is peaceful and elegant, and it offers a glimpse into the cultural and historical heritage of the area. Its central location also makes it very easy to include in a city walk or day out. A lovely place to visit, whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply exploring meaningful landmarks.

The Selimiye Mosque in Nicosia is an absolutely stunning piece of architecture. Regardless of one’s faith or beliefs, it’s impossible not to be impressed by the sheer beauty and historical significance of this building. Originally a Gothic cathedral, it has been transformed into a mosque while still preserving its breathtaking medieval character. The towering spires, intricate stonework, and vast interior create an awe-inspiring atmosphere that feels both peaceful and majestic. A visit here truly feels like stepping back in time, offering a unique glimpse into the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Cyprus. An absolute must-see for anyone visiting Nicosia.

Selimiye Mosque: A breathtaking fusion of Gothic architecture and Islamic heritage Located right in the center of Nicosia, Selimiye Mosque is not just a place of worship, but a masterpiece that leaves visitors in awe. As soon as you enter, you’re greeted by towering columns, elegant pointed arches and light gently filtering through stained glass. It’s a truly majestic space. Originally built in the 13th century as St. Sophia Cathedral, the building is the finest example of French Gothic architecture on the island. After the Ottoman conquest in 1571, it was converted into a mosque and given its current name. The Islamic elements added inside blend harmoniously with the cathedral’s original design. What stands out: The height and size of the interior is absolutely stunning Soft lighting and quiet atmosphere create a peaceful space The stained glass windows give the hall a unique glow From the outside, it still retains its cathedral character Visitor tips: Respect the quiet, it’s still an active mosque Aim your camera upward for the best interior shots Entry is free, and there’s a small information panel at the door Perfect for anyone interested in architecture, history or both

Selimiye Mosque is a former Christian cathedral- Cathedral of Saint Sophia - converted into a mosque. It' s interesting how this is, at the same time, he main mosque on the island of Cyprus - it can hold 2500 worhipers but also the largest and oldest surviving Gothic church on the island. But to be honest, it is really beautiful!

Super nice & renovated mosque. While I doubt the rest of the area looks as good, this ex-catholic church is worth a look especially since it's so close to the "border"
Bogdan H — Google review
The Selimiye Mosque, located in the heart of Nicosia’s old city, is one of the most impressive and historically significant monuments in Cyprus. Originally built as the Cathedral of Saint Sophia in the 13th century by the Lusignan kings, it was the largest and most magnificent Gothic church on the island. Following the Ottoman conquest in 1570, it was converted into a mosque and renamed Selimiye Mosque, which it remains today. The building’s stunning Gothic architecture — with its towering pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and soaring windows — reflects the grandeur of a medieval cathedral, while the Ottoman minarets added later give it a unique and harmonious East–West character. Inside, the vast prayer hall retains much of its original Gothic structure, now adorned with Islamic calligraphy and simple elegance befitting a place of worship. The Selimiye Mosque is not only a masterpiece of architecture but also a symbol of Cyprus’s complex cultural history, where different civilizations, faiths, and artistic traditions have left their mark. A visit here offers a fascinating glimpse into the island’s medieval and Ottoman past, making it a must-see landmark in Nicosia.

St. John's Cathedral, also known as Agios Ioannis Cathedral, is a significant landmark in Nicosia, Cyprus. This historic Gothic cathedral dates back to the 17th century and is nestled in the heart of the city. It boasts an unassuming exterior that conceals a lavish interior adorned with intricate 18th-century frescoes.
This church holds such beauty inside. The paintings on the ceiling and the icon wall make the trip worthwhile. As with most Orthodox churches, photography is not allowed inside for most visitors, so the exterior photos will have to do. They really don’t even begin to suggest what you’ll see inside, though.
Heather J — Google review
A few days ago I visited this quaint little church of St. John in Nicosia. A little unassuming from the outside, but beautifully decorated from the inside. But be aware of the custodian, a chainsmoking man dressed in all black. He stormed in after we had been inside for a few minutes and started shouting at us for taking pictures. Which we had not. He would hear none of it. His anger focused on my 11-year-old son. The custodian shouted at him that taking pictures was forbidden, which we knew, we had read the signs. But he had seen him do it and demanded his phone. My son answered politely, in his best English (not his mother tongue), "I did not take any pictures, sir". The man became even more angry. All the visitors needed to show their phones and also the voluntary contribution to the church was now demanded of everyone by him at high tone. I calmly showed him my son's phone, opened the camera and showed him the last picture taken. It was an outdoor picture, nothing to do with his church. But no apology came however on his own false accusation. We needed to pay! After this statement, he started a loud conversation on his phone while walking back and forth through the little church, ignoring us. All in all a very strange experience. Very impolite and even in a church as well of all places. So please do visit the church, it is beautiful, but beware of the Man in Black!

Located on Girne Caddesi, just south of the Girne Gate, the Mevlevi Lodge Museum is a historical site dedicated to the Mevlevi Order, also known as the Whirling Dervishes. The museum is housed in a 17th-century dervish monastery and features exhibits on dervish life and the tombs of 16 sheiks of the Mevlevi Order.
Pros: It's one of the most important historical and religious buildings on the island traditionally held that the building was built in the early 17th century It's located next to the Kyrenia Gate, on Girne Avenue, The museum is very different and has positive spiritual energy. Ticket prices are very acceptable. I recommend visiting. Overall rating is 09/10. Cons: There's nothing can complain about it.

A beautiful energy and lovely piece of Sufi history on our doorsteps. The museum is a lot the burial place for many of the whirlers…there are tombs in there. Just be mindful as I went in not prepared for that. The grounds are small and beautiful.

A nice lodge museum to wander around the history about Moulana (the Persian poet, Sufi mystic and Theologian), the place where he was living and Sama‘ whirling was happening. Such a spiritual era. Simple but deep with some photos of Sheikhs of the place at that time. The leaders are so kind and they describe the details for you patiently. It’s a small place with a tiny lovely garden, so doesn’t take much time, but it’s worth to try…😊

Wafa A — Google review
The Mevlevi Tekke in Lefkosa was an important cultural centre of the Ottoman era in Cyprus. It is situated within the walled city, south of the Kyrenia gate on the main street leading to Ataturk Square. It is distinguished by 6 golden domes surmounting a rectangular building. Built in the 17th Century on land donated by Emine Hatun, it is believed that the present Mevlevihane is a continuation of a previously established Tekke known as the Arab Ahmed or Ferhed Pasha Tekke. When it was first built, the Mevlevihane included a complex of buildings and extensive grounds. There was a kitchen which provided food for the poor of the city. There was accommodation for 18 dervishes and guest rooms for visitors. Beneath the domes were tombs for deceased sheiks. There was an inner courtyard for contemplation, and an orchard in which almonds, pomegranates and figs provided fruit. An ancient well and a reservoir provided water, and there was an octagonal fountain for ablutions. In 1956, the residential section of the Tekke was converted into a hostel for Turkish children under care. Then in 1961, on the recommendation of the director of the Konya museum, the Tekke was closed entirely. After alterations, it was opened as the Cyprus Turkish Museum in 1963, exhibiting calligraphy, imperial edicts and weapons as well as costumes of Mevlevi dervishes and tombstones. What remains of the original Tekke is the semahane, where the dervishes performed their dance, and the tombs of the sheiks. Almost everything else was demolished when a shopping centre was erected in 1970.

Acropolis Park, situated in Strovolos near the city center, is a charming and spacious park offering various outdoor activities for visitors of all ages. The park features a vast grass area perfect for picnics, playing frisbee, or letting kids and pets run around. Additionally, there's a playground, skate park, and basketball court catering to the city's youth. For those seeking relaxation, the park offers clear walkways, bridges, and fountains creating a tranquil atmosphere.
This park is truly a hidden gem, offering a peaceful escape right in the middle of the city. The first thing you’ll notice is how clean and well-maintained the entire space is. The grass is lush and inviting, perfect for picnics or just relaxing in the sun. There are plenty of trees providing shade, which creates a calm, cool atmosphere even on warm days. A small, charming lake sits at the center of the park, complete with beautiful, cascading waterfalls that add to the soothing environment. One of the highlights for families is the lovely children’s playground. It’s well-equipped and impeccably clean, making it a great spot for kids to run around and enjoy themselves. The toilets are also clean, which is a major plus when spending time outdoors. For animal lovers, the park is home to many friendly and beautiful cats that roam freely. They are approachable and add a whimsical touch to the park’s atmosphere. There are also plenty of sitting areas scattered throughout, making it easy to find a quiet spot to unwind, read, or catch up with friends. However, if you plan to grab a bite or a coffee, you may want to skip “The Bridge” restaurant. Unfortunately, the service there is disappointing. We waited over 45 minutes for four coffees, even though two other tables that arrived after us were served and left before our order even came. The staff seemed unorganized and unprofessional, which detracts from an otherwise pleasant experience. Overall, the park is a perfect spot to spend a quiet afternoon, surrounded by nature, in a serene and relaxing atmosphere. It’s ideal for a peaceful retreat with friends, despite the restaurant’s shortcomings.

Nothing much to be done here. The place needs to be taken care of much more especially the green areas. There is a play area for kids with swings, slides and a merry go round. Some events that include inflatables take place here which are interesting for small kids. Dogs are allowed.

Historical landmark
The Venetian Column in Nicosia, Cyprus, was erected by the Venetians in 1550 using granite from a Greek temple. Originally located in Salamis, it was moved to Ataturk Square as a tribute to Venetian rule. The column once bore the lion of St Mark and coats of arms of noble Venetian families but was later toppled by the Ottomans. Today, it stands as a historic landmark reflecting the city's diverse cultural influences.

Ataturk square with a Venetian column placed at a very strategic location of the Walled city of Nicosia northern side of Cyprus is very unique. The 1489 column moved from Salamis to here is a historic landmark for the city and it's people. From the square you can access all the sections of the "City center".
Eze E — Google review
Just one column in the middle of a roundabout.
Tereza N — Google review
In the centre of Ataturk square is the Venetian Column. This was moved from its original spot in 1489 from Salamis to Nicosia as a tribute to Venetian rule in Cyprus. Consequently, the column is frequently and incorrectly attributed to the Venetians. On top of the granite column was the lion of St Mark, at the bottom, the coats of arms of noble Venation families. The Ottomans removed the lion and toppled the column in 1570 and left it in the courtyard of the Sarayonu Mosque. In 1915, while at war with the Ottoman empire, the column was re-erected by the British. They replaced the lost St Mark lion with a bronze orb, and decorated the plinth with the dates of the demolishing and re-erection, 1550 and 1915.

Downtown Live (Αυλαία) is a charming area in Nicosia that resembles an old-fashioned neighborhood, offering a delightful setting for leisurely strolls and shopping. From the bustling Ledra Street to the vibrant Central Market at Plateia Palaiou Dimarchiou, visitors can explore an array of gift shops, department stores, and quaint boutiques. The market showcases an assortment of local produce, including fresh olives, feta cheese, and dried herbs.
Awesome place . Friendly staff and the acoustics were brilliant
Marc J — Google review
Try to avoid this place. The performance was great, but the venue made us pay 15 euro per person minimum fee. So you have to buy the ticket and on top of that pay “consumption fee”. And there is no way to know about it in advance
Eugenia — Google review
It’s wierd reviewing a place like this. I mean, when you see a band you love it’s incredible. But it’s because of the band not the venue. They make you pay a flat fee even you aren’t going to drink anything. I went to countless gigs in London and other countries. No other venue has been this greedy. I paid for the ticket. You get your cut anyway. Why ask for more? Perhaps the most annoying thing, though, is the smoking. I know most who go to metal concerts are degenerates but some of us are not. I go to a gig to have fun. Not to struggle breathing. And the venue only encourages this.
Demetris — Google review
Terrible experience! We were shocked to find out there's a mandatory €15 deposit per person – and no one mentioned it when we showed up for the event . It felt like a sneaky way to charge extra. Totally ruined the vibe. Be honest with your guests next time!
Evgenii S — Google review
get rid of the mandatory extra 12-15e drinks cost. Tickets are high enough and you shouldnt force people to buy overpriced drinks at your venue
Danny K — Google review
We watched John Achkar (Lebanese comedian) which was absolutely amazing and super funny. Although it is a great venue for comedy stand-ups, the service was extremely lacking. Not everyone got their drink on our table although we all ordered at the same time. We kept asking the waitress where the drinks we ordered were (on several occasions). They ended up bringing 4x the drinks we ordered. We were also entirely unaware of a EUR 15 minimum spend which was almost same price as the ticket for the show. The queue to pay at the end was a great example of how unorganized it was..

Located in the historic center of Nicosia, the National Struggle Museum is part of the Museums of the Pancyprian High School. It showcases the history of Cyprus' oldest Secondary School and offers insights into Cypriot history and culture. The museum includes various sections such as the School History Museum, Archaeological Museum, Numismatic Collection, antique maps, old weaponry, an art gallery, Natural History Collection, and a unique sample of Gothic sculpture in Cyprus.
Because there is no explanation in English you will need Google Translate. In understanding the Cyprus conflict, it is necessary to consider the struggles and assertions from both sides' perspectives. Viewing it together with another National Struggle Museum in the south of Nicosia, you can see the different narratives at important points in the island’s history.

History museum
The Museum of the National Struggle, located in the old city, is a dedication to the independence struggle and sacrifice of Cypriot patriots. It showcases the conditions of war, the bravery of Cypriots facing a superpower for freedom, and tells the story of EOKA members' fight against British rule. The museum displays documents, photographs, personal belongings of heroes, and other memorabilia related to the struggle against British rule.
This museum tells the story of the Cypriot path to independence from the British Empire. The exhibition provides context in English, and displays artefacts from the period. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking to learn more about modern Cypriot history and conflict in general.
Nat V — Google review
After reading about the history of the national struggle, I was really looking forward to visiting this museum and it didn't disappoint. My husband and I left very impressed by the detail and content of the exhibition spaces. A little gem for those who want to learn the truth about how Cyprus has gotten to where it is today!
Cassandra — Google review
One of the best museums in Cyprus. What an honor to be able to see all these artifacts. It's very sentimental and you can really feel the hardship. You learn all about the history via the 12 minute video (please ask for it it's very educational and worth it). Absolutely amazing museum!
Panayiota S — Google review
Interesting (free) museum about the fight for independence, mainly by the EOKA. Very ideological and a bit one sided (Greek nationalism as an inherently good thing), it's still a great introduction to the struggle of the cypriot people. A lot of photographs, documents and belongings of the fighters. Wouldn't miss out on it while being in Cyprus, because (as for many I guess) this part of history was completely unknown to me before.

We had a wonderful experience at this playground café! The environment is welcoming, clean, and beautifully set up, making it enjoyable for both kids and adults. The food is delicious and of great quality, which is not always easy to find in family-friendly places. What impressed us the most is the attention to safety. The café has dedicated staff who carefully look after the children, allowing parents to relax and enjoy their time with peace of mind. It’s clear that they truly care about creating a safe and happy space for families. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a place where children can play safely while parents can unwind and enjoy good food!
Georgia P — Google review
I recently visited Bubble Kids World with my children, and I must say it was an extremely disappointing experience. This place left a lot to be desired, and I would strongly advise anyone considering a visit to think twice. First and foremost, the hygiene and cleanliness of the facility were appalling. The play areas were dirty and unkempt, with sticky floors and grimy equipment. It's clear that they don't prioritize the well-being of the children who visit. I was worried about the potential health hazards lurking in such an unsanitary environment. Moreover, the staff's attitude was far from welcoming. They seemed disinterested in helping or ensuring the safety of the kids. I witnessed a minor accident, and the staff's response was slow and indifferent. This lack of attention to the children's well-being is simply unacceptable. The equipment and play areas themselves were outdated and in poor condition. Many items were broken or in need of repair, which is a safety concern for kids. It's evident that no effort is made to maintain or update the facilities. Lastly, the pricing was exorbitant for what was offered. We paid a hefty fee for entry, and there was no value for money. With the sorry state of the facility and the lackluster experience, it was a complete waste of our time and money. In conclusion, I cannot recommend Bubble Kids World , to anyone. It's a dirty, outdated, and overpriced establishment with staff who don't seem to care about the children's safety or enjoyment. Save your time and money and look for better options to entertain your kids.

We visited yesterday for the first time. It is a small playground in a quiet neighbourhood but unfortunately we were quite disappointed by our visit. On the plus side the property is safely fenced, a kid would not be able to go out in the road. The prices are great, entrance was only 4€ and the drinks we had were quite cheap compared to other places! Staff was friendly. On the negative side the place is not air conditioned and it was just difficult to be there in a hot summer day. Not a lot of toys either, but that’s okay, it is a smaller playground. The most important thing though is the fact that the playground is very dirty. Loads of dust on the castle, the balls are all grey from the accumulated dust, the soft floor panels are just too dirty for us. We felt uncomfortable and left after at most 40 minutes. We didn’t try the food cause we were worried about the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Brilliant play area for children. Amazing staff that are in each section - outdoor play area which is covered so no problem with sun & indoor play area with climbing frame ball pit as well as tables and games indoors. All areas are always very clean. Great selection of drinks and snacks/food is good quality. Went here both for a birthday party and just a play date. Both times my child was crying that he did not want to leave!

Armenian Church of Our Lady of Tire, originally established as the Abbey of Lady of Tyre in the 13th century, became a significant place of worship for the Armenian community in the 15th century. Following the displacement of the community due to city division in 1963, this golden-stoned church fell into disrepair. However, after an eight-year restoration project, it has been meticulously restored to its former glory.

Beautiful Armenian Church, unfortunately located on the Turkish side of Nicosia. Turkey slaughtered 1.5 million Armenians in 1915, which is the 2nd most studied genocide after the Holocaust. Turkey to this day denies that they committed this crime, but Europe, the US, and civilized world knows about the evidence. The Turks having control over this church is just insult to injury.
