Museo Faggiano is a remarkable archaeological museum that was unexpectedly discovered beneath a private residence in Lecce. The Faggiano family stumbled upon this treasure trove while renovating their home, leading to the unveiling of over 2,000 years of history. Visitors can explore Roman relics, medieval artifacts, ancient Greek tombs, and remnants of a Franciscan chapel and Roman granary.
I didn’t know what to expect from Museo Faggiano, but it turned out to be one of the most surprising and unique museum experiences I’ve had. From the outside, it looks like an ordinary building, but inside it reveals an incredible archaeological journey uncovered during a simple home renovation. Every room holds secrets from centuries past — from Roman cisterns to medieval escape routes. One of the family members was there to share the story, and his passion made the visit even more special. A true hidden gem in Lecce — totally worth your time, even if you're not usually into museums!
Sophia B — Google review
Absolutely must see! The inspiring story of a man and his family discovering history underneath their home is well told through a numbered guide. At the entrance you get explanations for everything that you can see inside in your language – very nice touch! To get into the museum you have to pay 5€, that are going to be worth it. Inside there is quite a lot of exploring to do, but you are going to have seen everything within 20min.
Johannes R — Google review
Really nice museum, and what an amazing story of discovery! A pleasant way to walk through local history in the heat of the day. We also verified with locals that this is indeed a genuine historical place, so rest assured.
Barilee T — Google review
Very unique and interesting. Lots of steep stairs so not accessible if youre on the larger side or have bad knees... or claustrophobia.
Emma C — Google review
The owner wanted to build a restaurant but ended up creating a museum. Very interesting.
Vivian D — Google review
One of the most unassuming yet compellingly intriguing museums you are ever likely to auditor. The staff member present was delightfully helpful and clearly proud of her establishment and rightfully so. It is spread over 4 levels, some oc the stairwells and quite narrow, so if you have difficulty in this regard it may be too much for you. You are essentially observing the outcome of a 7 year long archaeological figure. It is utterly fascinating and elements drench credits. Some of the artefacts are thousands of years old. If in Lecce do not miss.
Stewart J — Google review
This unique place is definitely worth a visit. Takes you up 4 levels and through thousands of years of history.

Amazing little museum with an incredible story behind. One of the son explained us the whole story, it was very touching and fascinating to hear about this extraordinary adventure and to see how brave and dedicated this family went through the whole process and still continuing. A little gem that you have to see while visiting Lecce. Thank you Marco for your kindness and for sharing your family story with us.

Sights & Landmarks
Historical landmark
Castello Carlo V, a 12th-century fortress reinforced by Charles V in 1539, stands as a testament to Lecce's historical significance in defending against Ottoman invasions. This imposing structure now serves as a cultural center, hosting art exhibitions and events that explore its rich past and contemporary relevance. The castle's architecture offers insight into Renaissance military design with its formidable walls and strategic vantage points.
A true historical fortress in the heart of Lecce. Castello Carlo V is an impressive structure that tells centuries of military and political history. Originally built during the medieval era, the castle was expanded under Emperor Charles V in the 16th century to reinforce the city’s defenses. Today, the structure blends ancient stonework with archaeological remains, exhibitions, and peaceful inner courtyards (cortili interni) that reflect the grandeur of the past. The entrance is simple and rustic, but once inside, you can explore towers (torri), old prisons (prigioni), a small museum, and even the Cappella di Santa Barbara. Un viaggio affascinante nel cuore della storia leccese. Don’t miss it if you want to feel the military soul of Lecce.

3 October 2025. The website was broken so couldn’t buy tickets ahead. Turned up early for 1600 tour. Lovely ladies at the desk had no idea website wasn’t working so walked them through what we did - apparently an upgrade occurred yesterday. Was told tickets are €10 each and have to do a guided tour (consistent with website). However, tour is only in Italian. You have to download an app (you can use their wifi), then download 20mb specific to the castle and follow via an audio tour. So basically you pay €10 for a self guided audio tour but have to walk with the guide. And then technology used is crap and problematic - kicked me out multiple times as we walked around and had to delete and reinstall several times. As an IT professional it’s a disgrace. The front desk, if it wasn’t for the lovely ladies, was an utter debacle. Majority of our tour were English speaking and everyone had problems with the app and the wifi. To the tour, the guide was helpful with letting us know where we were and when to use the audio app. Her English was limited so really couldn’t ask questions. The guide enabled us to see locked off areas of the castle, most of which relied on the audio. There were a couple of spots where there were information posters in English. Maybe it was the rain but I think we missed parts of the castle. Would I recommend? IT Issues aside, no.
Susan M — Google review
Just did the paid tour of Castello, amphitheatre & arena (with Roberta as our guide), we found her tour enjoyable and good value. Having the opportunity to enter areas that the public cannot and hearing from our knowledgeable guide extra stories and historical information was great. Would recommend.

A really interesting and historically & culturally important monument of Lecce. The guided tours are really informative and great value for money!!!
Gabor T — Google review
Very interesting site from what we could see of it, but the majority is off-limits unless you're participating in one of their tours, and the next English tour with availability was days away. Worth a free walk-through of the open areas, but wish we'd seen more.

Porta Napoli is a 16th-century triumphal arch that once served as a gate in the city walls at the old town entrance of Lecce. It stands alongside Porta San Biago as one of the city gates to the fortified medieval city, shining in its Baroque beauty. The gate marks the north-western entrance from Naples and leads into the stunning Baroque old town.
One of the most iconic city gates in Lecce — Porta Napoli is a grand triumphal arch built in 1548 in honor of Emperor Charles V (Carlo V). The gate stands tall with its classical symmetry, Corinthian columns (colonne corinzie), and detailed coat of arms representing imperial power. The Latin inscription celebrates the emperor’s victories and the loyalty of the people of Lecce. Walking through this gate is like stepping through time — it marks the transition between the historic old town and the wider city. Un’imponente porta storica che rappresenta l’anima nobile di Lecce. A must-visit for lovers of architecture and history.
Manea A — Google review
Porta Napoli is one of the most iconic entrances to Lecce’s old town, a majestic triumphal arch built in 1548 in honor of Emperor Charles V. Its grand scale and clean lines welcome visitors into a maze of narrow streets, baroque facades, and sunlit piazzas. Just beyond the arch, you'll find a network of small, charming squares that give Lecce its unique rhythm. These piazzette are perfect places to pause and take in the beauty of the city: stone benches under the trees, small cafés spilling into the street, and locals moving at a relaxed pace. Wandering through this area, you'll feel the timeless character of Lecce, where history, architecture, and daily life blend together. Whether you’re following the scent of espresso or the sound of footsteps on ancient stone, this part of the city invites you to slow down and look around. From Porta Napoli, every direction leads to discovery, whether it’s a hidden church, an artisan shop, or just a quiet moment in one of the most beautiful corners of southern Italy.

Chiesa di San Matteo, a 17th-century church, may be overshadowed by other nearby landmarks, but it boasts an impressive facade and unique design. Built in 1667 with Baroque architecture, its front facade features a sweeping curved design adorned with intricate sculptures and statues. Inside, the church houses nine stunning altars depicting religious figures and stories such as the nativity and assumption.
Beautiful barocco church built by Borromini's grandson. Very interesting example of Salento barocco both on fasade and inside
Sibeaster — Google review
A breathtaking example of architettura barocca in the heart of Lecce. The Chiesa di San Matteo is simply stunning — its curved façade (facciata curva), richly sculpted columns (colonne scolpite), and decorative details make it stand out as a masterpiece of 17th-century design. The symmetry, the play of light on the stone, and the dramatic nicchie vuote (empty niches) give the church a unique personality. You can’t walk by without stopping to admire it. Inside, the atmosphere is peaceful and sacred — molto tranquilla e spirituale — offering a beautiful contrast to the theatrical Baroque exterior. Un capolavoro del Barocco leccese! A must-see in Lecce for architecture lovers and photographers.
Manea A — Google review
Just went in front , but no place to sit and watch… need tickets to go inside unfortunately. The descriptor on the left side is extremely technical about the architectural components. It’s a super awkward location but beautiful! I wish I knew what all the shapes on the facade mean.
Karen B — Google review
Nice church to visit with the 11€ ticket that gets you into the Basilica (7€ just for this), Cathedral and 2 other churches (this one) as well. Now that is worth it and it is like a treasure hunt by following the map and getting you around the old city.

Basilica di Santa Croce is a 17th-century baroque church in Lecce, known for its intricate facade adorned with numerous figures and a rosette window. It is considered one of the most significant landmarks in Lecce and a symbol of Lecce Baroque.
One of the most beautiful basilica I’ve ever seen in my life the architecture from outside and inside was incredible really worth doing it it’s part of the five places journey you can make in this town and it’s all in one ticket and it’s really worth it

Beautiful crafter building in both renaissance and baroque architecture. Fascinating to see each stage and level and the inside is incredible. The next day we walked past and there was a wedding being held inside. Very beautiful venue!

Very nice Basilica to visit and the front in the white limestone and with its carvings are spectacular. The ticket price is rather steep at 7€ for just the basilica with another 20€ to go up the tower. The best value is the 11€ ticket that gets you into the cathedral and 2 other churches as well. Now that is worth it and it is like a treasure hunt by following the map and getting you around the old city.
Simon R — Google review
You have to pay to visit this basilica, but it's worth paying €21 to buy a ticket that gets you in all the main churches and tower for that price. It's a beautiful building with a colourful history. You can visit all the main sites in a day, but it's a beautiful little city, and I used it as a base to explore other towns and cities by train.

The Basilica di Santa Croce is a jaw-dropping example of Lecce’s Baroque mastery. The façade is bursting with detail — angels, columns, animals, and a stunning rose window. Built by monks of the Order of the Holy Cross (monachi sanctae crucis), the basilica is full of symbolic meaning and artistic richness. Una meraviglia barocca che lascia senza parole.

One of Lecce’s most iconic architectural landmarks — Porta Napoli is a majestic city gate that once served as the ceremonial entrance to the city. Built in 1548 in honor of Emperor Charles V, the gate stands tall with its Corinthian columns, baroque sculptural details, and a commanding statue on top. The Latin inscription adds to its historical grandeur, reminding visitors of Lecce’s strategic importance in history. St. Blaise Gate is one of three gates to Lecce's historical city centre. It was built in Baroque style over pre-existing medieval gate. Because of the rich Baroque architectural monuments found in the city, Lecce is commonly nicknamed "The Florence of the South". MUST (Museo Storico Città di Lecce) is a historical museum located in the heart of Lecce's old town, near the church of Santa Chiara and the ancient Roman Theatre. The museum features a contemporary art gallery showcasing permanent exhibits by sculptor Cosimo Salento Carlucci at its entrance.
Beautiful and carefully curated museum with diverse exhibitions - some historical ones, which you would expect, and some more contemporary ones. It was pretty calm when we visited around noon on a Saturday, and the whole museum had a peaceful and soothing ambience. Staff was friendly and not intrusive at all. Price very moderate (5.50€ per person).

More than a historical museum, MUST provided a really nice contemporary art exhibition and a great cafe in the interior garden. A must-do in Lecce!

A fantastic art gallery/museum with lots of different modern art exhibitions. There is also a section on the history of Lecce and the cavalry (slightly surprising!). The ticket desk were extremely welcoming and kind. We dropped off rucksacks for free in lockers and spent nearly 2 hours wandering around. Got a discounted ticket too because I am a teacher!

Really enjoyed a leisurely wander round this lovely & tasteful museum. It has the right amount of info & well-spaced & arranged exhibits so it’s not overwhelming at all. It offers fascinating glimpses into the past of this region. I highly recommend a visit here as a change from baroque churches!

Absolutely stunning museum. Large display of antiquities, mostly (but not only) vases, amphorae and other vessels. Highly decorated, beautifully sculpted. Hard to believe some are over 2000 years old. Well worth a visit.

This museum seems to be newly fitted out with no expense spared. It's very modern inside. With a spiral slope to access the upper floors. On the ground floor there is a spacious auditorium where we were lucky enough to sit at midday and listen to a wonderful pianist practicing Beethoven for a forthcoming concert. The museum is full of local finds from the sea, from excavations and from local building works. There are many Greek red-figure vases. The highlight for me was the wonderful bronze statue of a roman emperor found under the sea.

A hidden gem in Lecce. This museum is FREE! And they have clearly spent a lot of money on it. If you've seen too much baroque decoration, this is the perfect antidote. We spent maybe an hour, and it was time well spent. Lots learnt and loads of discussions sparked. I can't believe it's not more highly rated. Go, you won't be disappointed.

We were the only visitors here the whole time we were there. A little but surprising because it is an interesting museum. Cool modern layout integrated in an old building

This museum is perfect for you if you like ancient history and ancient archeology. Those topics are not really my thing but I did enjoy a lot these vases and antique objects from the populations that given birth to Salento. It has been interesting for me giving the fact that I normally go to contemporary and modern art museums or natural science, design and technology. So it has been a nice breath of fresh air.

Palazzo Bernardini is a historical gem located in the heart of Lecce, offering a unique and charming stay. The palazzo features stunning suites and rooms adorned with heirlooms, antiques, and artwork. Guests can expect spacious accommodations with vaulted ceilings, antique furniture, and modern amenities such as air conditioning, satellite TV, and even some rooms with balconies and spa baths. The personalized hospitality from the Bernardini family adds to the allure of this accommodation.
As a group from Turkey, we spent an evening there having a fantastic dinner, lively chat with landlady Isabella, had some nostalgia (songs, memories). Location of the building just fantastic, in the heart of Lecce, yet very quiet in the evening. Would like to spend some days staying in air her air b&b rooms. Thank you a lot İsabella for unforgettable smile on your face and hospitality.

This was my second visit to Palazzo Bernadini, and I was very happy to be there. The rooms are eclectic, and have a wonderful charm, as do the owner/hosts. They are friendly, welcoming, and absolutely a delight to speak with. I was on a bicycle trip around Puglia, and they had a safe secure place to store my bicycle for the three days I was in Lecce. Everything from the booking through the checkout was very personable and friendly. I highly recommend staying here when in Lecce.

Ancient Ruins
Tucked away in the charming city of Lecce, Italy, the Teatro Romano di Lecce is a remarkable piece of history that transports visitors back to ancient Roman times. This Augustan theater, rediscovered in the early 20th century during excavations near Palazzo D'Arpe and Palazzo Romano, showcases stunning Roman architecture and offers insights into the cultural life of its era. While it may not be as famous as Lecce's amphitheater, it holds its own significance and charm.
One of the beautiful sightseeing of the historical city of Lecce.
George V — Google review
Although it is marked as closed, the viewing balcony is open. €3 entry fee. You cannot physically walk around the amphitheatre while it’s being renovated. Might be worth a look if you like that sort of thing.
Justin K — Google review
Not worth the time or money The ticket costs €4 and includes access to a small museum and a limited balcony view of the Roman Theater. Unfortunately, the experience is underwhelming. The view of the theater is obstructed and distant -you can only see part of it from above, and it's currently surrounded by construction materials due to ongoing renovations, which detracts even further from the experience. The museum itself is sparse, with very few items on display and minimal information provided. Honestly, the photo captures nearly everything you're likely to see. There are far more interesting and worthwhile sites to explore in Lecce. There's a free view from the back, go check that one out and save yourself some money in this scam.
Fritz S — Google review
This place is such a hidden gem in the city. Imagine you need to get through several alleyways to find this amphitheater. By the way, just a useless fact, there is a public bathroom near in alley where you can get a view of the theatre ^-^
Willy D — Google review
Only got to access it through the railings, the rest is boarded up, shame for a important historical site. Not sure where you hain gain entry or purchase tickets.
Stephen H — Google review
This is a cool bit of archeology. But there’s not much in the way of cohesive information for English speakers. If you’re okay contributing 4 euro to see some seemingly disparate artifacts and look over a balcony as a smallish amphitheater, go for it! I consider this a contribution to hopefully restoring and improving this monument. But The free view of the Roman Amphitheater a few minutes walk away is better.
Kristy R — Google review
It's surprising to find such a historical monument in the middle of the city. It's said to have a capacity of 20,000 people, but it doesn't look that big.
Mcel — Google review
Not even worth the 4euro. Messy ticket office with an entrance behind a curtain. Dusty small museum, all but (plastic) replicas, pictures of things not even in Lecce. The roman theatre was filled with construcion materials and waist. Even with much effort it took me the whole 5mins. Verry disappointing!

The Jewish Museum Lecce, also known as Museo Ebraico di Lecce, is an underground museum located in a former synagogue that delves into the Jewish history of medieval Lecce. Opened in May 2016, this museum offers a rare insight into the lives and contributions of a community that has significantly influenced regional culture for centuries. It is situated beneath a grand baroque palazzo and provides an intimate narrative of Jewish history in Medieval Salento.
Immersive and informative filled with emotion and authenticity. So much important Jewish history in the Lecce / Apulia region since 11th century. Well worth a visit

A project in its infancy, attempting to bring to life of the stories of a community violently expelled 500 years ago, never to return. The excellent guide did her best with very little concrete evidence. Worthwhile.

Highly recommend this wonderful museum delineating two periods of Jewish history in Lecce. Included with the entrance fee, you are given a thorough tour explaining the historical significance of the building as well as the two periods of history. The English tour is very well done. There are many artifacts which were given to the museum by Jewish families that passed through Salento after WWII, which add authenticity and emotion to this museum. This museum is a must see during your visit to Lecce.

Borka ( — Google review
The church was built starting from 1591 on the project of the Francesco Grimaldi from Turin and was completed in 1639, the year of the consecration by the Bishop of Brindisi. The church experienced important historical events: in 1797 it was visited by King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon; in October 1860 it hosted the plebiscite operations to decide the yes of Lecce to enter the Kingdom of Italy. In 1866 the annexed convent of the Theatines was suppressed, but the church remained open for worship. The parish community celebrates its patron Irene on May 5th. The building refers to the model of the Basilica of Sant'Andrea della Valle in Rome, where Grimaldi himself worked. The façade is made up of a double order system, punctuated by overlapping pilasters connected by festoons. The columns are spaced out in the lower order by empty niches and cartouches and in the upper order by a large window. The central space of the lower order houses the portal, surmounted by the stone statue of Saint Irene, by Mauro Manieri from 1717. Above the string course frame stands the civic emblem of the city of Lecce. The façade is crowned by a triangular tympanum bearing the insignia of the order of the Theatines. The Latin dedication to the patron saint Irene virgini et martiri (Irene virgin and martyr) is engraved on the entablature. The interior has a Latin cross plan, with a single nave open at the sides by three deep chapels communicating with each other and characterized by elliptical domes. On the left side there are the altars of St. Stephen, which houses the painting with the Stoning of St. Stephen, by Antonio Verrio, of the Crucifix and of the Virgin of the Good Council. In the left arm of the transept there are three altars: the altar of Saint Oronzo, built around the middle of the seventeenth century by Francesco Antonio Zimbalo, uncle of Giuseppe Zimbalo; the altar of Saint Irene (1639) which houses nine busts of saints which each contain the relics of the depicted religious, while above is the statue of Saint Irene surmounted by the coat of arms of Lecce; the altar of the Holy Family built in 1672. The apse houses the main altar altered in 1753. On the wall is a painting depicting The Transport of the Holy Ark, a masterpiece by Oronzo Tiso. In the right arm of the transept there are three other altars: the altar of the Guardian Angel dating back to 1700; the altar dedicated in 1651 to St. Gaetano of Thiene by the archbishop of Otranto Gaetano Cassa, which houses the oil painting depicting the founder of the Teatini order, created by Filippo Maria Galletti [1]; the altar of Saint Andrew Avellino, in the Rococo style. In the chapels on the right side there are the altars of St. Charles Borromeo, of the archangel Michael, built by Cesare Penna in 1642, and the altar of the Souls of Purgatory with a recent painting by Luigi Scorrano. The church's sacristy houses other paintings, including that of the Madonna della Libera.

The Basilica del Rosario e di San Giovanni Battista is a stunning baroque church in Lecce, often referred to as the "Florence of the south" due to its architectural magnificence. Designed by renowned architect Giuseppe Zimbalo, it boasts an intricate facade and a unique stone pulpit. The interior, though not always accessible to visitors, features remarkable decorations and serves as Zimbalo's final resting place.

The Basilica of San Giovanni Battista al Rosario is located in the historic center of Lecce. The beginnings of the church date back to the 14th century. The current building from the end of the seventeenth century was built on the site of the previous building. In 1948, the church was declared a basilica. It has a lot of interesting details worth seeing.

Five Star chuch with One Star hours and comportment. The caretaker is an ignorant ass. "No photo"!!! " You can't stand there!" I felt like I was invading HIS church. Idiotic behavior. Plus, it is NEVER open, or nearly never open, a major problem in most of Lecce, sadly. I waited six months to finely get in, only to be treated like a three-year-old child. So much for promoting tourism, the only true growth industry for Lecce...which will never grow thanks to attitudes like this. Very sad...

(Translated by Google) The Church of San Giovanni Battista, just beyond Porta Rudiae, is one of Lecce's most fascinating wonders. Imposing and majestic, it's striking from the outside with its solemn façade in Lecce stone, which, illuminated by the sun, seems to glow with golden reflections. I was fortunate enough to visit shortly before it closed for restoration, and its beauty has remained in my heart: a grandiose space, rich in sculpted details, sumptuous altars, and a light that gives the space a suspended, almost mystical atmosphere. Beyond its artistic and architectural splendor, this church also preserves the memory of a man who profoundly influenced the life of the city: Monsignor Ugo De Blasi, who is buried here. Archbishop of Lecce from 1959 to 1981, De Blasi was a thoughtful leader, close to his community during crucial years, even navigating the period of the Second Vatican Council with firmness and sensitivity. He is remembered as a humble pastor, devoted to his faithful, capable of uniting tradition and renewal, leaving an indelible mark on the history of the Lecce diocese. Finding his tomb inside the church adds an extra layer of emotion: it is not only a place of art and faith, but also of living memory, intertwining the memory of a man of the Church with the magnificence of the Baroque. It is as if the stones, marble, and decorations recount not only the glory of the past, but also the spirituality of those who walked in times closer to our own. The closure for restoration leaves a certain melancholy, but also the certainty that such a precious place will shine again, ready to welcome citizens and visitors once again. And when it reopens, I recommend everyone enter: because here you don't just visit a church, you experience a piece of history, art, and humanity.

(Translated by Google) It dates back to 1592 and was commissioned by the Venetian mayor Pietro Mocenigo to replace the one demolished in 1588. Over the years it served the purpose of hosting the town hall, hearings and public meetings. Aesthetically it recalls a bit the Gothic and Renaissance style. It is made up of perforated pillars, with oval-shaped decorations, which anchor a front window on which pointed arches rest, surmounted by three loggias. Above the arch the coat of arms is clearly visible and on the sides, depictions of armour, shields, sabers, swords, quivers and helmets. È costituito da pilastri forati, con decorazioni ovaliformi, che ancorano una vetrata frontale su cui poggiano arcate a sesto acuto, sormontate da tre loggette. The establishment prides itself on serving authentic Neapolitan pizza without compromise, with the option to share a large pizza with friends at the outdoor communal tables. Friendly folks serving excellent pizza. We popped in on a cold and windy night in Lecce and were greeted with a friendly "Ciao!" and immediately given a hot slice of very tasty Margherita pizza. They then proceeded to bake us a whole veggie pizza just so we could have another couple of slices. Great pizza and beer and lovely people, what more do you want? Highly recommended.

Came here too Lecce and saw this pizza place right outside our door when looking for something on Google. The reviews seem to think this pizza place is amazing. Without a doubt as I sit here after trying a few types of what they offer. I can agree that the pizza here is amazing. I just said to my partner, I actually think its the best I've had. The crust for me makes the pizza and the crust on their pizzas amazing. The toppings are also amazing. Its a simple place, you go in and order what you want. Get a drink if you want to and go sit outside and its ready for you by the time you sit down. No fuss, just good honest pizza. Well worth trying while in lecce. It's worth even coming here to try it.

The best sandwich in the city. Freshly made and very high quality food! The portions are big too and they have a good selection of cold beer. Relaxed vibe, first come first served for the bar stools.

I can't believe how nice the food is. Absolutely amazing for something so simple. I will return to Leece just to go to this place. I have a rule not to go back to a place on the same holiday but I ate here 4 times in 6 days. Can't remember anywhere else that made me so happy. The staff are really lovely and very helpful and a special mention for the deep fried pizza

The best pizza in Lecce without a doubt. Walk in and pick from a selection of amazing pizzas that are already on display (recently cooked and often off menu creations) or order what you want and enjoy watching the pizza be made whilst chatting with the lovely chef and staff. Last night Napoli beat Inter 3-1 whilst we were there which made the chef very happy! Ci vediamo domani 😄 🏆⚽️💙 FORZA NAPOLI! 💙⚽️🏆

Vico dei Sotterranei is a charming restaurant located in the old town of Lecce, offering a delightful dining experience. The cozy and relaxed atmosphere, both inside under soft beige limestone arches and outside next to olive trees, sets the stage for enjoying modern Pugliese cuisine with hints of traditional flavors. The friendly staff provides excellent service as you savor lovely pasta, antipasti, and other vegetarian dishes made with care and attention to detail.
We booked Sunday dinner for four here. The restaurant seating is on the quiet street and was pretty full b 20:00. We had some delicious aubergines, fava and chicory and I had a really delicious special of pasta seafood sauce and octopus. Fantastic!!

What an absolute joke of a restaurant. The portions are so tiny it feels like they are deliberately mocking their customers. You pay full price and get served a ridiculous amount of food that wouldn’t satisfy a child, let alone an adult who actually came to have a proper meal. Are they joking? It is insulting to even call this a serving. I left hungrier than when I arrived, which is unbelievable for a place that pretends to be a restaurant. The audacity to charge those prices for scraps is outrageous. Furthermore, I’ve been living in Lecce for more than two years and I have never once seen local people eating there. That says it all. It is the worst example of a tourist trap, with nothing but fancy decorated plates trying to disguise the fact that they serve you next to nothing. No way will I ever go back, and I strongly advise anyone with a normal appetite to avoid this scam of a place.

A unique place in Lecce downtown where traditional food meets modern art. The host, Sasha, is fulfilling you every wish. And the wine list is spectacular. Try the red wine Mimi, 2017, it’s one of their running horses. Together with my friends, we spent an unforgettable evening there which later in the night, turned into an argentinian tango music night. viva la musica, il cibo ed il vino salentino.

Great dinner off the recommendation of our accommodation. Local themed food with a modern twist. Shared a creamed Cod to starter, followed by Ravioli with barata and pea puree, roasted pork with mash and peanuts. Food overall was great, ambience and the restaurant look were fantastic. Lovely vaulted ceilings.

Attended the restaurant only. Menu and quality of the food was exceptional. Service ok, staff helpful. I enjoyed sitting outside in the alleyway. Felt like being in France, although we were in Italy.

Fantastic meal! We found this place by absolutely chance in the daytime as we were looking for a place to drink but it was nearly 3pm and eateries tend to close. It was busy, looked great and having been in Italy for 2 weeks knew it might be worth booking for dinner so we cpuld vome back. Im so glad we did as it saved walking aimlessly around Lecce in search of a good meal. We saw plenty of couple turned away during our meal in the evening. Anyway, to the food. It was a cut above most places we have eaten. Authentic, regional food but presented in a modern way. The menu was varied but not over the top. We would highly recommend this place if you want an authentic but modern meal. Its a cool/cute outside dining area and the staff are attentive and friendly.

Lovely spot tucked away in a quiet side street in the back of the Dome. I had the Melanzana to start and the Spaghettone with amberjack and tuna tartare as a main – both were delicious and beautifully presented. They really did a great job when they are picking the photographer. At a restaurant like this, you would expect the food to look like the photos. We didn’t enjoy either one of the dishes. The risotto with octopus was blend at best. The skin on seabass wasn’t crispy. The tuna didn’t look appetizing. We have left half of the food on plate and this was the worst experience we had in our trip to Puglia.

(Translated by Google) I had dinner in this restaurant because I was at a work meeting in the hotel that hosts it, the 8+ hotel in Lecce which, I must admit, is a very nice surprise. Dinner was excellent: obviously I didn't taste everything, but there were two of us and we had two really good and satisfying first courses: spaghettoni with aubergines and pine nuts and linguine with anchovies, fennel bread and olives. DELIGHTFUL! Among other things, the waiter (very kind) told me that the menu will change in the first days of next month, to accommodate the seasonality of local products. I will certainly be back to try the new offerings. Well done! Bravi!

Nestled in the heart of Lecce, Giardini Pubblici Giuseppe Garibaldi, also known as Villa Comunale, is a stunning 19th-century garden that invites visitors to unwind amidst its lush greenery. With a meticulously designed geometric layout of walking trails, this park features an array of sculptures crafted by renowned local artists and charming fountains that enhance its serene atmosphere.
Located just a short walk from Lecce’s historic center, the Giuseppe Garibaldi Public Gardens (also known as the Villa Comunale) are a perfect spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy some shade under the trees. The gardens combine elegance, history, and tranquility in one beautifully designed space. The layout follows a classic Italian style, with tree-lined paths, geometric flowerbeds, and a charming neoclassical pavilion in the center topped with a green dome. Along the way, you’ll find statues and busts honoring notable figures from Lecce’s past, adding a touch of cultural depth to your walk. Although located in the heart of the city, the gardens feel calm and removed from the hustle and bustle, great for a quiet stroll, a coffee break, or a peaceful escape with a book. Families will also appreciate the playground areas for kids. It’s a lovely blend of nature and history, and a must-visit if you’re exploring Lecce. Easy to access from multiple entrances, and always a pleasant stop whether you’re sightseeing or just in need of a break.

The park was very nice. The trees gave is shadow to sit in on a sunny days. It was good to watch the pigeons and others playing on the playground. But I think that it has been forgotten. The slats on the benches are broken, on a few you can’t even sit. In the park the paving stone is also in bad shape now. I hope someone will fix it someday. Overall it is worth the visit if you stay in Lecce. A big park to relax a little or take a bath in the sunlight.

Stayed here for two nights for a wedding and loved the place! Whole venue was utilised for the wedding and was very beautiful overall. Staff are helpful and accommodating plus the rooms are nice/spacious. My booking came with free breakfast. Food was lovely. This place should be avoided at ALL costs. It is NOT a hotel. This is an event centre with 7 rooms and if you plan on having any sort of peace and quiet, you will be disappointed. On both nights of our stay, there were parties being held with blaring music until the late night hours. Forget about sleep. The location of this hotel is also not ideal. It’s off a main road and a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The lady at the reception during the day is not friendly. Asking for assistance for things that a hotel reception would normally be pleased to assist with made her even more miserable. Customer service skills need to be taught. We were also given a crib for my daughter which was basically falling apart and is a child sleep safety hazard, so it could not be used. Avoid at all costs.
Alyssa B — Google review
An amazing place, it is almost unbelievable that someone gets the chance to stay in a historic tower on this price. Although, a wedding was taking place 2 of the 4 nights we have stayed, our room was quiet at all times and we never heard a noise. Friendly stuff, ready to provide assistance on any occasion. Great selection of breakfast options nicely cooked and prepared. Very close to the historic town centre. Can not find a single flaw. Highly recommended !

Palazzo Vernazza, a historic gem in the heart of Lecce, offers visitors an extraordinary glimpse into the past. During renovations between 2005 and 2006, archaeologists unearthed remnants of a sanctuary dedicated to the Goddess Isis, along with an underground sea featuring a rock-carved pool that once held sacred waters from the Nile.
It’s a great experience to go down a few stairs in this palazzo and find yourself in the remains of a roman temple. Where normally you would need your imagination to picture what it must have been like 2000 years ago, the VR experience makes it possible to peak into the history of the site. The combination of being among the actual remains of the temple and being able to see it in Virtual and Augmented reality works really well. Perfect explanations and guidance in English as well!

An interesting archeological site. The place is hard to find due to the bad positioning of the signs and lack of arrows pointing to the right direction. There was only one person on site which is problematic since he had to lock up while giving the tour and the website has a lot of outdated information. The archeological findings themselves are very interesting and worth visiting. There is a good amount of information that you can access through the tablet provided, while walking through the site and the guide is knowledgable and kind. The VR experience at the end is also very good.

Horrible experience Cost 10 euros. We saw one room, 40 stones in a courtyard, and a vr temple. On Google there is another room, which we were not shown. The guide walked ahead of us, so it was difficult to ask anything. And he did not seem to care for the place himself. He had big curly hair. He walked off at the end, with only a goodbye. I was left quite stumped. I would not recommend anyone to visit. It seems that some people had a good visit. They all seem to be Italian. I would have had a better trip there without the guide. And just left with the tablet. Disappointing. Visit the faggiano museum instead.

Convitto Palmieri is a charming library located in the city center, making it convenient for both locals and visitors. While a library card is required for access, obtaining one is straightforward. The staff, although primarily Italian-speaking, are friendly and accommodating. In addition to its impressive collection of books, the library also houses a museum showcasing the history of printing machines and typography from past to present. The beautiful interior provides an ideal space for studying, while outside areas offer opportunities to relax and read.
A beautiful place well worth visiting! It fits in the Lecce Baroque style. The building houses the Lecce public library, and the Sala Pellgrino is a beautiful reading room with walls containing leather bound Italian classics, while students work at the reading tables. The courtyard is a cheerful place with colorful modern chairs, a great place to sit and read for a while when you want to escape from the bustle in the nearby streets. There was also two interesting exhibits: one of old printing presses, typewriters and early photocopiers, and one of photographs of the Salento region in the 1950s-1970s. The staff was super nice! I had to come back the next day because I had left my wallet behind (it was turned in, with all the documentation and cash, by an honest library patron) and it seems the entire staff was waiting for me and shared my sense of relief! We experienced a lovely moment of community, despite the language and culture barrier. This will be one of my best memories of Italy.

A nice stop when you travel to beautiful Lecce! One can dwell in the quiet Baroque atmosphere in the library, reading or just people-watching at the open lounge on the ground floor. The regular printing machine exhibition is special. We also visited the periodic exhibition of the Italian actor Carmelo Bene which was nicely curated! (We were exceptionally grateful that a friendly staff especially opened the exhibition hall for the two of us on their close day!)

(Translated by Google) The Church of San Nicolò dei Greci is one of those places that intrigue with its name and history, tied to the Albanian and Greek communities that have lived in Lecce since the 16th century. Rebuilt in 1765 to a design by Francesco Palma, the building retains a unique charm: the Baroque façade is simple yet elegant, with pilasters dividing it into two orders and a mixtilinear window that lends a touch of movement. Inside, the Lecce stone iconostasis, with its Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries, represents a rare testimony to the Eastern liturgical tradition in Terra d'Otranto. It's a shame, however, that all this richness remains almost always inaccessible: every time I pass by, I find the church closed. It's frustrating to see such an important piece of the city's history relegated to a locked door. A visit would certainly be evocative, but it remains just another missed opportunity.

Palazzo Loffredo Adorno, located in Umberto street, is a stunning sixteenth-century palace adorned with beautiful decorations. It stands near the Basilica of Santa Croce, a prime example of Lecce Baroque. The palace was commissioned by Gabriele Adorno and designed by Gabriele Riccardi in 1565. Its exterior walls feature bevelled bossage that becomes diamond-shaped in the entrance hall and staircase.
Owned and operated by the City of Lecce, this place is secluded and is free from tourists...for the time being. Beautiful architecture and follows the ancient Roman principal of , "firmitas, utilitas, venustas". The 'Utile Dulci' , usefulness with the agreeableness comes together.

(Translated by Google) The Palazzo del Seminario of Lecce is one of the most beautiful and representative buildings of the Lecce Baroque. Built between 1694 and 1709 commissioned by Bishop Pignatelli, the palace is located in Piazza del Duomo, in the historic center of Lecce. The facade of the building is punctuated by overlapping orders and presents a series of elegant Renaissance windows on the ground floor and first floor. In the center stands the splendid, finely decorated portal surmounted by a balcony containing three windows framed by a meticulously carved decoration in Lecce stone. Inside the building, the entrance hall has a lunette vault and is enriched by eight stone busts of the Doctors of the Church. In the internal courtyard, the famous Cino well, known as the True Oval well, stands out with all its exuberant decoration. Adjacent to the courtyard there is also the private chapel of the Seminary Palace admired for its splendid altars. The Diocesan Library which houses books of immense artistic value is also part of the Seminary. Overall, the Palazzo del Seminario in Lecce is a work of art that is definitely worth a visit. Its architecture and decorations are a true masterpiece of Lecce baroque. I highly recommend anyone who is in Lecce to visit this beautiful building! 😊 (Original) Il Palazzo del Seminario di Lecce è uno degli edifici più belli e rappresentativi del barocco leccese. The palace is very beautiful, and I highly recommend visiting the museum of sacred art, which is one of the most beautiful places I've visited in Lecce. It's a shame that the staff is disgustingly rude. Tickets are exorbitantly priced, and in my opinion, it's profoundly immoral and wrong to charge to visit a place of worship. It's the exact opposite of what Jesus would have wanted. The ticket includes an audio guide via the LECCECCLESIAE app, but it doesn't work properly. It only downloads a few audio guides and needs to be updated. The efficiency is nonexistent. Luckily, at the museum of sacred art, to listen to the audio guide, you just need to scan the QR code next to the artwork. The hygienic conditions of the palace, however, are appalling. There's trash everywhere, and the windows look like they've never been cleaned. It's a shame. XVIII enlarged it through the union with the building in Piazza Falconieri and also embellished it with the addition of a small Rococo portal and a graceful window in Via Palmieri; in 1814 Marianna Palmieri married Ignazio Guarini and brought him the palace as a dowry; from the Guarini-Palmieri it passed into the property of their niece Anna de Francesco who, upon marrying Gio. We loved this B&B! The owners are kind and welcoming, including the adorable little dog, Minnie. Located in a pleasant neighborhood near the train station, it is an easy walk to the historical center. The rooms are beautifully decorated, but not fussy or cluttered. The bed and furniture in our suite was especially comfortable and good quality. Many luxury details, like robes, slippers, and bottled water are also provided. The breakfast served was amazing! The spread included a variety of homemade cakes, pies, pastries, yogurt, granola, as well as savory items. Coffee drinks are also made to order. We enjoyed our three-night stay and hated to leave.

We stayed at Palazzo Bignami for six days and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The location is excellent, situated on a quiet street just a few minutes' walk from the city center. Although there is no private parking, public parking nearby was not an issue. The owners are very friendly and do their utmost to satisfy their guests. The B&B is beautifully and tastefully decorated, with lovely and spacious rooms. There is a large rooftop terrace on the top floor. The breakfast buffet is extensive and offers a wide variety of choices. However, there was an extra charge for eggs, which we found a bit unusual. Additionally, there was an extra charge for refreshing the bath linens. Ivan - Belgium

Historical Suites VVM is a charming bed and breakfast located just 800 meters from Piazza Mazzini and Lecce Railway Station. Each spacious room features two balconies overlooking the old town, while also equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning and electric kettle.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Perhaps one of the best places we've stayed on all of our travels, not just in Italy. It's a beautiful old building with painted ceilings and antique furniture. Lots of lovely art and interesting things but it feels very homely. The place is very clean and Nikos makes you feel so welcome. Breakfasts were very nice and Nikos has excellent recommendations for things to do and places to eat. It's located right in the centre of the old town, within walking distance from everything you should visit in Lecce.

We've spent 2 nights in the presidential suite of this historic building and it was amazing. The host Nikos is the best host you can imagine! Located next to Plaza Duomo, you reach all highlights within 5 min walk
Markus K — Google review
The apartment was an easy direct 12min walk from the train station located in the Old Town. We were greeted by Nikos who was super friendly and full of wonderful information. He has turned an original house into 2 apartments which both were lovingly outfitted with antiques (down to the bed frame!) to reflect its historical nature. The bathroom was modern, shower and water pressure very good. Bed was a super king size and very comfortable. A delicious traditional breakfast was provided every morning, just had to let Nikos know what time suited you so the pastries were warm and would be ready in the formal lounge area. So much food that we hardly made a dent in it! A kettle and coffee machine was provided, air-conditioning in bedroom and lounge area, free Netflix too. Niko was very helpful with any info about where to go to and how to get there. Lecce in the old town is very busy each night into the early hours so it's best to have some earplugs so you don't hear a thing. Highly recommend especially if you want to experience staying in a gracious building.

Overall, my experience at VVM Historical Suites was outstanding. The combination of its central location, beautifully preserved antique furnishings, and the warm hospitality of Nikos makes it a true gem in Lecce. Nikos went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. His knowledge of the local area and personalized recommendations for dining, sightseeing, and hidden gems were invaluable. He was always available to assist with any queries or requests. Situated right in the city centre, the hotel offers easy access to Lecce's main attractions and lots of very nice bars and restaurants. It was the perfect base for exploring the city. Despite the central location, the double glazed windows meant we didn't hear any of the noise from the street below!

We cannot say enough about our stay here. Nikos was AMAZING, beyond helpful!! He truly made our first stop on our vacation the best one. The building is incredible, our room was immaculate and so authentic. We even had someone playing an accordion outside our window on numerous evenings. The location is also perfect! Highly recommend.

Couldn’t rave about this place enough! Best service and gorgeous palatial rooms furnished with things actually from the original house back in the old days. I love the old charm of the entire place. Of course, even if they have some period pieces, the rooms are equipped with modern furnishings like AC and electric kettle. Each room is massive with two balconies over looking old town. A nice surprise was that breakfast was delivered to you every morning on a bar cart. You can even make personalization and ask the host what you would want them to bring. The host are also very hospitable and helped us provided recommendations and bus routes. Will be back again and again should we find ourselves in Lecce once more!

The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption and Saint Orontius, also known as the Lecce Cathedral, is an ancient structure featuring multiple chapels and an elaborate façade. Visited in July of 2024. Absolutely stunning. I was mind blown by the beauty and the detail of the church, inside and out! The tickets aren’t that expensive. The interior is intricately decorated with paintings. Another church as beautiful as this one is rare to find.

A beautiful square with connecting little streets. This church and its surroundings are truly stunning. However, tickets are required here, which is a bit disappointing, as one wouldn’t expect it for this type of monument. Moreover, they are sold on the other side of the square.

Going into the crypt is a must. Seeing the skeletal remains is a bit scary. The best value is the 11€ ticket that gets you into the Basilica (7€ just for this), Cathedral (this one) and 2 other churches as well. The Roman Amphitheater of Lecce, dating back to the 2nd century A.D., is a partially excavated historical site that offers guided tours. Situated in the picturesque city of Lecce in Italy's Puglia region, this gem is celebrated for its rich history and stunning baroque architecture. Often referred to as the Florence of the South, Lecce boasts intricate stonework and magnificent churches crafted by local artisans.
Incredible ruins of a Roman Amphitheater where gladiatorial fights took place within the centro storico of Lecce. Incredible!
Michael R — Google review
An interesting landmark, but I wish it were better highlighted and cared for 🏛️ It lacks informative signs or context for visitors, which makes the experience feel a bit underwhelming. With a little more effort, it could be much more engaging and memorable.
Thibaud — Google review
An interesting small scale Roman coliseum off the city square, there’s a church from the same time period situated directly opposite from this, rest of the ruins is underground the pavement.
EH — Google review
Shame. The historic site doesn't seem to be taken care of by the city of Lecce. It looks unattended for. Trash and weed and it looks abandoned.

Although this is currently closed due to ongoing works, it is a great place to see, photograph and get a feel for the Greek influence in this region

At the heart of Piazza Sant'Oronzo lies the Colonna di Sant'Oronzo, also known as Colonna Romana. This impressive column reaches a height of 95 feet and holds a special significance due to its intriguing history. While Italy is abundant with columns, the story behind this particular monument sets it apart from the rest.
Impressive Roman column topped with Saint Oronzo, the protector of Lecce. Originally from Brindisi, this column now stands as a symbol of victory over the plague and Lecce’s deep spiritual identity. Simbolo di fede e resistenza nella storia leccese.

(Translated by Google) Built in 1666, as a votive offering from the population for the plague epidemic that had hit the city 10 years earlier. It is dedicated to the patron saint of Lecce and marked the end of the Via Appia Antica. At its top the bronze effigy of Saint Oronzo was placed, originally 4.16 m high. Destroyed immediately afterwards, the statue was remade in Venice in 1739. Hello from Roby and Lucy from S. (Translated by Google) Icon of Lecce and silent witness of the city's events for over three centuries, the column of Sant'Oronzo symbolizes its soul. After saving Lecce from the rampant plague in 1656, Sant'Oronzo was named the city's new patron saint and a votive column was dedicated to him. The statue was made by Venetian artisans, while the column - from the Roman era - was donated by the city of Brindisi. Standing nearly 29 meters tall, it originally came from Brindisi, where it marked the end of the Appian Way. At its summit, the bronze statue of Sant’Oronzo, the city’s patron saint, watches over and blesses Lecce. It was placed here in 1666 to thank the saint for protecting the population during a plague epidemic. A majestic and deeply meaningful monument, it blends harmoniously into the beautiful Baroque square. Porta Rudiae is one of the three historic gates in Lecce, offering a picturesque entrance to the old town. The city's center is a charming labyrinth of alleys and courtyards, adorned with palaces, artisan stores, churches, and flowered balconies that exude the historic charm of Salento. Notable landmarks include the Church of St. Matthew with its unique curvilinear facade and the Church of St. Irene.
Visited in July of 2024. A beautiful and grand entrance to the wonderful city of Lecce. The entrance reflects on Lecce’s history and it is influenced heavily by it too.

lovely gate, definitely recommend you to start your visit from here. unfortunately during our visit it was under construction, so we were not able to fully enjoy it. anyways this is a good reason to come back ☀️

First morning in Lecce enjoyed a cappuccino in a bar/cafe in between Porta Rudiae one of the ancient gates into Lecce and a cathedral. Enjoyed coffee hearing the choir music reverberating thru the cathedral walks and ceiling and spilling out into the stunning baroque limestone buildings lining narrow stone roads. Couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant Lecce welcome.

Absolutely stunning , Once the Roman Empire had fallen, Lecce was sacked by the Ostrogoths during the Gothic Wars. The Normans arrived in the 11th century and the city began to see its wealth and influence grow. During this time, the Normans built the Lecce Cathedral and many churches which would survive for centuries. Lecce old city is Baroque classical experience in real life ☺️♥️

Hidden gem of Puglia! Former greek convent with wonderful column capitals outside church and interesting frescoes inside it. I do not know is it possible to come here by local transport, I have arrived here by my feet (7 km from Squizzano railway station)

I recommend this beautiful place to who is interested in holy art and Byzantine culture. Thanks to FAI, many visitors can breathe the real atmosphere of that period. Staff friendly and helpful, they should be aware to visitors that don’t respect the rules. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ I suggest to visit, especially the Abbey with right clothes: No shorts 🩳 or naked shoulders - it is a church and you must be respectful to this sacred place. ⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️⛔️🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 And don’t touch the frescoes with your hands.

The Catholic Church of Saint Clare is a significant building in the city of Lecce, Italy. The church is richly decorated with religious artwork, ornate sculptures and a striking altar. It was built between 1510 and 1520, and underwent a baroque makeover between 1687 and 1691. The church is a must-see for visitors to Lecce, and it is also an excellent example of Lecce's baroque period architecture.
very very beautiful basilica it’s part of the five basilica travel you can make in the cities it’s really worth it very very beautiful
Gal N — Google review
Beautiful baroque church in the heart of Lecce. The Chiesa di Santa Chiara is definitely worth a visit if you’re exploring the old town. It’s a small but striking church with rich baroque details, elegant stonework, and a peaceful interior that offers a moment of quiet in the bustling city. At first, it might seem like you have to pay €11 to enter — but don’t worry that price refers to a combined ticket for four churches and a museum in Lecce, so that is cheap. There isn’t a lot of information inside, so a little research beforehand or a quick guide app can help you appreciate what you’re seeing — like the unique wooden ceiling and the refined stucco work. Definitely a beautiful stop for those who enjoy architecture, history, or simply quiet spiritual spaces.
Wouter V — Google review
Nice to visit and see the fake wooden ceiling. The best value is the 11€ ticket that gets you into the Basilica (7€ just for this), Cathedral and 2 other churches (this one) as well. Now that is worth it and it is like a treasure hunt by following the map and getting you around the old city.
Simon R — Google review
Not much to look at but the style in which the church was built is interesting. It's got some nice architecture inside with the 12 apostles as statues on each side of the church.

Located in the heart of Lecce’s historic center, Chiesa di Sant’Irene is a stunning example of southern Italian architettura barocca. The façade is rich with elaborate carvings, elegant colonne corinzie, and symbolic motifs that showcase the artistry of the 17th century. The light-colored stone reflects beautifully under the southern sun, making it perfect for photos at any time of day. Inside, the church is peaceful and atmospheric — a quiet space for reflection, with impressive frescoes and altars. The bell tower (campanile) adds charm to the exterior silhouette, and the intricate doorway is simply mesmerizing. Una chiesa maestosa e storica, assolutamente da visitare a Lecce!

The Railway Museum of Puglia is a must-see attraction for railway enthusiasts and history lovers. It offers a captivating exploration of the region's rich railway heritage, showcasing the transformation of train travel in Puglia. The museum is meticulously maintained with detailed explanations provided by passionate volunteers. Visitors can admire steam and diesel locomotives, interesting carriages, and informative signage throughout the museum.
If you like trains, you cannot skip this museum. Lots of info and memorabilia of al kinds of train era. The "plastico pugliese" exhibit is simply amazing. The amount of detais is insane. Its a perfect minature hommage to the area. For just 5 euro entry fee this is a no brainer.

Fantastic little museum. The gentleman at the ticket desk welcomed us with open arms. We then had a look around at a number of steam and diesel locos and various interesting carriages. Lots of informative signage everywhere but unless your Italian is good would recommend getting the guide book which has very useful translations in. Well worth a visit, especially considering the price (it was only €5 each). I would definitely recommend a visit.
Henry S — Google review
If you are going to Lecce, don't miss the opportunity to visit this wonderful place. It is so educational, lots of examples of trains on display. We really enjoyed it and had fun, the route is circular, extremely easy to get around, maybe the only restrictions would be for people with limited mobility or for strollers on the carriages. The child enjoyed it a lot, but so did we adults.
Wandering B — Google review
Great museum and really good value. Plenty to see, both inside and outside the trains, as well as many nice models. Very minor criticism is that several signs are only in Italian, but there's more than enough information in the guide, which is only 2EUR (on top of a very reasonable 5EUR entry).
Jamie W — Google review
A great experience for geeks and normies alike! Old carriages to stroll through, historical locomotives on stream, diesel, electric, control centre exhibits, prison cars, tons of dioramas, even a semi-intercactive history lesson about the half a mil Italian soldiers who choose not to fight for fascism. Buy that book the bookshop offers for 2€, it's a great memento.
Kaens B — Google review
Very well made exhibition, nice colletion.

One of the best railway museums we know. Very nice exhibition. you can see that a lot of love and work went into the exhibition. you are very well guided past all stations and there is a lot of information in English. We found the attention to detail exceptional. There are photos, model railways that always match the theme, and of course excellently restored locomotives and wagons. The museum is open regularly on Saturdays and Sundays. if, like us, you are not in lecce at the weekend, you can request a visit on tuesday or thursday. However, you have to register for this one day in advance. this can be done via the contact details on the homepage. We give it 5 stars, we would have liked to give 10.
