Cathedral
Dome
Place of worship
Nidaros Cathedral, located in Trondheim, is a remarkable Gothic structure dating back to the 11th century. It is one of Scandinavia's largest medieval buildings and holds great historical and religious significance. The cathedral houses the grave of Viking king St. Olav, who played a key role in introducing Christianity to Norway. Visitors can admire modern stained-glass works and intricate statues on the facade depicting biblical characters and Norwegian monarchs.
Extraordinary cathedral, the second largest but in my opinion the most beautiful in Scandinavia. There is a crypt below parts of the cathedral, constructed during the second half of the 19th century, where you can admire gravestones from the middle ages. You pay an entrance fee in the neighboring tourist office and should come early when they open to avoid the busloads of visitors that arrive around 10 a.m.

Jewel of Trondheim. What a magnificent piece of architecture, blending and extending back to medieval era. Proudly standing after many renovations and total reformed as well. Must and first place of visit in Trondheim. I was lucky enough to sit and witness the aura of this marvel as being attendee as audience of a singing group. Summer is the best time to visit in my opinion as lot of activities taking place during. Guided tours are available. Wonderful coffee shop situated right next to it with lot of indoor and outdoor seating.
Sameera R — Google review
What an amazing cathedral! The guided tour was excellent. We had the treat of a free organ performance, so got to experience the fantastic acoustics. So many rich details and stories of all the architectural features. So much eye candy. The entire cathedral is like a book that could be studied for hours, days, months, and years. I loved the story of St Olav, the Eternal King, the stone mason (one of the photos locates the stone mason), the carvings by Vigeland (he also did some of the exterior gargoyles), the meaning behind each and every one of the works of art. Take a photo and then Google the image and see if you can learn a story about it. Buy the combo ticket so you can visit the crown jewels and the archbishop museum as well. The food in the cafe is quite good as well.
Elise M — Google review
I've seen many famous cathedrals, while the exterior looks historical, there's not much anything that's special in the interior. Paying for the entrance fee for me was a waste of money. Stick to the photo op outside.
Blue T — Google review
This is one of the oldest places in Trondheim. Architecture is magnificent whe the exterior gives an ancient historical feeling. Some parts of the outside have been standing there since almost a millennium.
Konstantinos K — Google review
Absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!! So majestic! I came to visit for 3 days in a row! Each day, I discovered new things!!! Only wish I had the time to make the pilgrimage walk from 10 miles out to earn my St. Olav Pilgrimage certificate. The carvings, stained glass, history, and incredible music (I was blessed to hear one of the organists practicing) were all magnificent!!! So many amazing details that need more time to explore and savor! Would love to visit again sometime soon!!! What a tremendous treasure!!!! Definitely a must see if traveling to Norway!!!!!
Rhonda C — Google review
Amazing architecture worthy of a visit even for those not on a pilgrimage. Historic pieces and artefacts are incredible, particularly the preserved tombstones on display in the cathedral's crypt - located down an inconspicuous staircase on the southern side.
Andrew N — Google review
A ticketed cathedral - buy your tickets at the visitor centre next door. Beautiful building outside and in. Scandinavia’ biggest gothic building - it’s vast. The guides on duty are willing to answer questions and seemed to know their stuff. Inside there are lots of nooks and crannies to explore, with a history dating back over a thousand years. ♿️Not easy to access. An incredibly heavy door to open and no help. And inside much is on one level but all the nooks crannies, chapels and crypts are pretty difficult to access. Having said all that, it did feel more like a historical showpiece and tourist attraction than a living worshipping cathedral with very little evidence of services or help for those who wanted prayer or support.

Perched on a hill above the Nidelven River, Kristiansten Fortress was constructed in the 1680s following a devastating city fire. Its strategic location protected Trondheim from easterly attacks and famously repelled Swedish forces in the early 18th century. The fortress also holds historical significance as a site of wartime executions during World War II. Visitors can explore its museum, guided tours, and seasonal cafe while enjoying panoramic views of the city and fjord from this iconic landmark.
The fortress was free to enter. It was a slightly rainy day so not a lot of people around. It was part of a tour we were on so it was nice to have a guide to explain the history. I would suggest reading a bit about it before seeing it as I did not see a lot of explanation signs up there. The views are also great.
Caryn I — Google review
Beautiful and historic place. Free entrance in the fort walls. You can be your own guide as there are QR codes scattered around the place that’ll open videos explaining more about the place. You have a beautiful viewpoint of the city and the fjord.
JasonTT — Google review
I visited a hot morning in mid July of 2025. The place was empty with the exception of a busload of Italian tourists with their guide. Everything was closed, including the cute little café and renovation work was going on in parts of the area. There i a beautiful view over the city of Trondheim and the fjord from the concrete walls downhill from the fortress. Parking is free for an hour which is largely enough time for the visit.
Sebastian R — Google review
The views from the fortress are pretty spectacular. There are picnic tables, so you could bring a picnic lunch or snack and enjoy a picnic. The museum is free. They sell a limited amount of snacks and they do not accept credit cards - only cash or VIPs - which is the mobile wallet for Norway. The display in the museum is not that much. We hiked up the hill to the fortress on a very hot day. The cafe did not have cold water, but we were allowed to take a couple of the cups used for coffee and fill them from the taps in the bathrooms.
Elise M — Google review
It's worth walking up the hill to the fortress for the view of trondheim you get there. There's also a small cafe and lots of outdoor sitting spaces in the park.

Nestled along the picturesque Brattorkaia in Trondheim, Rockheim stands as a vibrant tribute to Norwegian popular music. This modern museum, ingeniously converted from an early 1900s barn, showcases the rich tapestry of Norway's musical journey from the 1950s to today. Visitors can immerse themselves in The Time Tunnel, a sprawling exhibition that spans over 1320 square meters and highlights key moments in Norwegian music history.
Absolutely fantastic audio visual experience. A superb showcase of Norwegian modern and contemporary musicians as well as tracing the development of modern music in Norway. Several Norwegian bands from the world stage as well as excellent content of Norwegian artists generally. Loved it. Virtually all the exhibits are in both Norwegian and English.
Dex M — Google review
Well designed museum with interactive exhibitions about the Norwegian Music Culture. You can even create your own music in a “lab”, here more explanations how to use the Synthesizer would be important. Overall 100% worth to visite, free lockers are available, plan min. 2 hrs.
Kristof S — Google review
The highlights are at 6th and 4th floor. You can go thru the history of Norwegian Music from 50's to millenium era. There are also some unique genres here in the museum.
Pornpong C — Google review
Intersting museum about Norwegian music. But for a metalhead on holiday in Norway, the real gift is a section about black metal. And this time a second gift: a temporary exhibition about origin of this subgenre. Generally speaking the museum has many interactive stations to access the material you're interested in. The workshop area is beautiful, you can create your own track by mixing instruments with stations that make everything easy. 1 or 2 hours well spent
Fabri D — Google review
Wonderful interactive experience. I enjoyed my 2 hours there but definitely need more to play with every exhibit.
Joy — Google review
Great place to learn about Norwegian music changing over the time!
Animesh S — Google review
An excellent museum full of interactive exhibits and various ways to engage and learn about Norwegian music. The English speaking tour was also worth doing at 11am - A 45min quick overview of music from the 50s to the present. There is also an opportunity to mix your own song as well and access it online. Aside from the ground floor ticket office and shop, the majority of the exhibit and cafe are located higher up in the building. Pretty much all the information was available in English and the museum was accessible and friendly. No queueing on a Sunday morning and plenty of space to explore. Very close to the cruise port, so a recommendation for those with a day in the city and no set excursions. Just be aware that it is easy to get lost in all the music and spend the whole day here. I really wish we had more interactive museums like this back in the UK... Would certainly make learning far more engaging!!

Island
Sights & Landmarks

Munkholmen, a small islet off Trondheim, has a rich history as the site of Norway's first monastery in the 11th century. Over time, it served as a prison, military fortress during WWII, and execution site during the Viking ages. Today, visitors can access the island via regular boats from May to September. It's a popular spot for picnics and sunbathing.
One of the must see attractions in Trondheim! Is it worth to go for short guided tour (50NOK), really interesting. Nice beach with some sand, is it possible to swim there where temperature is higher. Lot of people can go there with kayaks, boats or bigger boat from Trondheim (95NOK). Perfect place to go there during the week, when there is less people, you can calm down and rest well.
Krzysztof C — Google review
Had to go for a 12 minute boat ride from the city to this island. Though there wasn’t so much to see, I liked it because it has finer sand than Korsvika beach. Nice for quick detour 😊
Grace — Google review
While the site itself is fascinating with great views, the service was overall mediocre to outright infuriating. The cafe did not offer milk with coffee, not everyone likes a bitter black cuppa. And for lunch we ordered a soup with refill, but then there was no refill available. This was substituted with a waffle, but a waffle is not soup, which is what i paid for. The tour was in Norwegian, with no English even though there were a fair amount of foreigners in the group. This would have been okay if we looked at the sites while the guide spoke, but instead he sat in a seat and then told us to go off and fund the things he spoke of 30 minutes later. But the thing that dissapointed me most was when the ferry back to the main land did not arrive at 3.15pm as scheduled, but rather 4.15pm, with no communication from anyone. We could have enjoyed the island a bit more, but instead all stood in the sun waiting anxiously while other events we paid for in the city were passing us by. I tried calling the ferry several times and messaged on FB, but never received any response.

Go to munkholmen in summer 95nok tickets Every half an hour ferry back and forth
Naveen P — Google review
Disappointing. After taking the 10 minute ride in an air polluting old boat we arrived at the island only to find the main building locked and told we could only enter if we purchased the guided tour. We did not do this on principle. It took 5 minutes to walk around the perimeter of the island and we read the history online while waiting for the next boat back.
Dyan — Google review
A really interesting site with hundreds of years of Norwegian and WWII history. It was fairly inexpensive (about $20 USD) for the boat ride to the island and the guided tour. There is a small craft/gift shop on site. There is also a small Cafe that serves food as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. This site is only open for a few months in the summer so make sure you check the schedule before heading to the tour boat.

Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum is a remarkable open-air cultural heritage site that invites visitors to step back in time. Situated near the historic ruins of Sverresborg Castle, this museum showcases over 80 buildings, some dating as far back as the 12th century. Established in 1909 by passionate individuals dedicated to preserving Norwegian and Sami culture, it features an impressive collection of traditional wooden houses from Trondheim and its surroundings.
Awesome view from the cliff, a look into life in Norway in the early 18th century, the telephone, dentist, posts, school, house of the richest person

I wanted to spend the whole day here. There's so much to see, the atmosphere is lovely, calm and cozy and the people are so kind. There's good cappucino in the cafe and toilets spread around the park. In June it's not busy at all. Great for people who are easily overstimulated and/or hsp's. I'd revisit when I'd be back in Trondheim.

10/10. You get a second day for free which I used too and the guided tours were awesome. My favourite book series is The legend of the Ice people and this trip to the past will help me so much imagining all the aspects of the books while reading them. :)

An enriching experience in a great location. The open-air museum is wonderfully organized, the old houses are filled with period furniture and accessories, allowing a rare glimpse into life "in the past." From the top of the park there are wonderful views of the city and its surroundings. Don't miss the souvenir shop on site, there are wonderful glass works, made locally.

Great open air museum, beautiful buildings full of history. Loved the town, and especially the apothecary and the apartment above it. The stavekirke was not as spectacular as others around Norway, but still worth a visit. Recommended.
Max B — Google review
One of our best cultural experiences in Norway! The place itself is amazing, what made it even better were the lovely tour guides. We want to shout out specifically André and Haakon, who very enthusiastically shared their knowledge about the old city and the castle and answered all of our curious questions. It was so cool seeing people who are as fond of history as them. If you guys see this, thanks for the notes in our travel diary! We loved them :D
Vendula K — Google review
Interesting collection and guided tours. Good value for money (kids and parking for free). Outside the 'old town' many buildings cannot be entered and sometimes it is hard to understand if you do not master Norwegian. All in all, this is a nice place for families, also tourists.

Ringve Music Museum, located on the Lade Peninsula, is a captivating destination for music enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Housed in an 18th-century manor with stunning views of the city and fjord, this museum boasts an extensive collection of Norwegian and European musical instruments spanning centuries. Once owned by the Bachke family, known for their passion in collecting instruments from around the world, the museum offers a unique insight into classical instruments as well as modern sound and lighting technology.
Lovely music museum containing so many instruments in a chronological order. The main part can be visited during the normal working hours and you can click on the displayed buttons to hear how some of the exhibited instruments sound (a very practical touch). But you may wish to find out when they offer guided tours, as part of the museum is only open for the public with a guide, which really makes all the difference. We were lucky to catch such a guided tour, and the guide was amazing, took us through all the rooms while playing some of the instruments. The cafe is not good. If on time, I recommend taking the 15 min stroll towards the fjord and enjoy some good coffee and food at Sponhuset. If you really need a coffee here, don't take the espresso - maybe the Norwegian filter coffee is better. :)
Ana S — Google review
Fantastic museum! Definitely do the tour. Great guide who stole us the history, and played multiple songs on different instruments.
Jason S — Google review
A bit small but nice place and collection! The staffs are also super friendly. They also have spot where you can play the instruments
Rohmah F — Google review
The most fascinating museum I have ever visited. It is absolutely worth a visit if you have the opportunity. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and such talented musicians in their own right. Our guide for the day was a charming young man, a classical musician and student (who did tell us his name but I unfortunately can't recall it - he had mentioned it was hard to pronounce but is all I can recall) and this excellent chap played many of the instruments for us as part of the tour. His knowledge was incredible and his ability to play beautiful classical pieces, with his eyes closed no less, on each historic instrument was incredible to watch. The home and instruments are beautifully preserved and maintained, and clearly loved and respected by the staff. This was an excursion booked through a cruise I took just this month and I have to say it was one of my favourites. Cruising through the Norwegian Fjords was a treat in itself, but The Ringve was an experience I will never forget.
Ash J — Google review
Absolutely one of the best Museum visits I've made in Norway. It's slightly out of the way in Trondheim, but an easy reach with the bus. The Museum is set in acres of Botanic Garden. I was there on a Summer Saturday and possibly because it was sunny and all the locals were at the beach, I was one of maybe a dozen visitors. There was a live concert in the gallery I was one of two in the audience and on the guided tour, in the older part of the museum, the guides, Music students from the local university, played Beethoven and Chopin on the period pianos and other instruments. Truly it was a bit magic.
Glenn S — Google review
The guided tour is really special! I felt like I travelled back in time. Enjoyed every second of it. Unique museum experience.
Nadira B — Google review
The music museum was a surprise find on our northbound Hurtigruten trip. It is a mile and a half from the terminal and we visited on a ship's excursion. The guided museum trip takes you through the instrument collection, from a 17th century clavichord to a self-playing piano that Edvard Grieg worked with. The guide plays several of the instruments, so it is a chance to compare their sounds.

Trondheim's Old Town Bridge, also known as Gamle Bybro, is a historic bridge with striking red portals that offers scenic views of the river and charming colorful houses. The area around the bridge is rich in dining options, with top-notch restaurants in the Bakklandet district and lively bars in the city center. The bridge replaced an even older one from the 17th century and provides lovely vistas of gabled warehouses along the riverside and timber buildings painted in vibrant hues.
The bridge itself is very beautiful. It has that old feel but looks to be in great condition. Additionally, you can get a great view down the river, with Trondheim's multicolored buildings on each side.

It has to be done, but be aware it is a tourist hot spot, so it can become crowded. That said, this time I visited, it was a warm sunny day. The previous time it was -18 degrees Celsius and very deep snow. Either way, you need to see it.

This is also called Old Town Bridge, a popular spot in the idyllic town of Trondheim in Norway. The town is compact, walkable to most places. This bridge is one of a few attractions, appx 7 min walk from the main cathedral, the view of two sides of the riverbank with colourful rows of houses, is postcard worthy. It is small and short but charming, with benches to rest your feet. There's a park on one side, with some benches and calm river water, a great place to relax, people watch, and for photo ops. Lots of tourists and locals on bicycle or skateboards around. A stroll along the bank is lovely and peaceful ✌️

The Archbishop's Palace in Trondheim is a remarkable 13th-century stone castle that stands as the oldest of its kind in Scandinavia and one of Europe's best-preserved palaces. This historical gem, dating back to the late 12th century, features a captivating courtyard and houses various exhibits.
Reading the name, I can assure you that you are expecting something different than what this museum actually displays. Sure, it was a palace at one point, but there isn't much left that would make you think it was. This is not a bad thing at all, as it is replaced with something just as great: a museum of the cathedral and the palace grounds. The ground floor of the museum is all about the cathedral. It has a slew of busts, statues, and gargoyles recovered from the cathedral during excavations. They are very beautiful and are incredibly old. Several of them date back to 1270-1300, which is always really cool to see. Upstairs is a small area dedicated to more about the cathedral and religious artifacts. There is a display of numerous models of the cathedral through time, which I liked. You could see its growth, downsize, and then growth again, to what it is today. There was also a display of colorized black-and-white pictures of the architects and workers who worked to renovate the cathedral. There were a lot of cool things about the pictures, and very interesting to see the pride many of them had in their reconstructions. Downstairs, however, is the big event. This area has artifacts from the archbishop, and the previously existing buildings on the site. There are coins from Holland and Germany (from trade), manuscripts, a broken archbishop staff, combs, buttons... I could go on and on about the stuff here. It covers an enormous area and is cool. You can spend a very sizable amount of time here, so be careful. Another cool thing about this area is that you can see the ruins of the castle, and later a mint. Only the bare foundations and the floor are remaining, but it was cool to see.
David F — Google review
An extraordinary collection of artifacts from the surrounding area. The mint with its tile floor is very interesting and the film on the restoration process of the cathedral is worth watching. It has English subtitles. I think buying a ticket for access to the cathedral, I place and jewels is a good idea.
G M — Google review
Interesting place to visit. There are lots of items from The Medival Age and the history of Cathedral. Worth to see it!
Jolanta N — Google review
First impression is that the museum is just a few pieces of old sculptures but the film on the restoration and then the mint site on the lower floor really make this a great place to visit. The upper floor showcases some of the many people over the years who have worked to restore the cathedral. Recommend you buy a combination ticket to see both this museum and the cathedral.
Martin B — Google review
Fascinating to see the development and hardships endured by Nidaros Cathedral! So much history and even uncovering the bishops mint! I never knew that bishops minted their own coins! As an American, it was particularly interesting to see the connection and then distance between church and state. Where once the king was crowned inside Nidaros Cathedral, now it is a blessing and benediction of the monarchs. Also happy to know that now Norway permits the crown to go to first born heirs even if they are women!
Rhonda C — Google review
An interesting museum built over the former Archbishop's Palace adjacent to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. The museum has many statues recovered from the site, and models of it's changing layout over the centuries. Part of the museum includes the excavated remains of the Palace showing the outlines of walls and timbers used in the original construction, with many interesting finds of day to day life in the Palace. A ticket to visit it can be bought in combination with the adjacent cathedral and Crown Jewels exhibition. There is a film showing the history of the palace running on a continuous loop.
Leslie J — Google review
I loved this museum! Everything is walking distance and there is so much to look at and read, definitely give yourself a long afternoon here!
Nancy I — Google review
The museum itself has been beautifully created within the existing (most recent iteration, anyway) structure. We were there in July 2024 and loved the photo exhibit (colorized) depicting renovations to the structure(s) in the compound. Including a wild depiction of a bishop with a basket full of architects heads! with whom he had disagreements... tough gig, medieval Architect!

Pirbadet is a huge indoor waterpark in Trondheim, Norway that offers a variety of activities for all ages. There's a youth pool, sports pool, wellness pool, health baths, climbing wall, diving tower and separate spa area.
I recently visited [pirbadet], and I was highly impressed with the overall experience. The pool is well-maintained, offering crystal-clear water and excellent hygiene standards. The cleanliness of both the pool and surrounding areas, including the showers and changing rooms, was remarkable. The management ensures regular cleaning and proper water filtration, making it a safe and refreshing place for swimmers.

**Pirbadet in Trondheim** Pirbadet is Trondheim’s premier aquatic center, offering a fun and relaxing experience for visitors of all ages. Located by the Trondheim Fjord, near the Brattøra district, it features indoor and outdoor pools, thrilling water slides, and stunning fjord views. The modern facility includes a 25-meter swimming pool, a children’s play area with water features, whirlpools, steam baths, and a rooftop sauna with panoramic vistas. One of Pirbadet’s highlights is its outdoor seawater pool, allowing swimmers to enjoy the fjord’s refreshing waters year-round. The adrenaline-pumping water slides, including a speed slide and a twisting tube slide, are popular among thrill-seekers. For relaxation, visitors can unwind in the warm whirlpools or the aromatic steam room. Pirbadet also prioritizes accessibility, with pools designed for visitors with disabilities. The rooftop sauna provides a unique Nordic experience, combining warmth with breathtaking fjord scenery. A cafeteria serves light meals and refreshments, making it easy to spend an entire day at the center. Families, fitness enthusiasts, and tourists frequent Pirbadet for both recreation and swimming lessons. Its central location near Trondheim Central Station and the Pirbadet pier makes it easily accessible. Whether seeking adventure, relaxation, or family fun, Pirbadet is a must-visit destination in Trondheim, blending aquatic excitement with Norway’s stunning natural beauty. I do recommend this place!

UPDATE: Sound level is 126 decibels probably due to acoustics and is way too load for a public space. The fun stuff for kids and big kids is closed off. No warning on entering and paid full price. We left early! No refund! SHAME ON YOU! Still dirty as ever as far as pool walls go with undertrained lifeguards as usual. Broken sharp grips on climbing wall are still not removed or replaced. Safety concerns on many levels and not fun! ——————————————— Previous 4 star review. Great fun for families, playful teens, adult swimming and recreation. Cleanliness is unfortunately constantly low in changing areas and pool walls. Many locker’s have been out of service for over a year. This is great environment with spectacular views of the waterfront all year round. If you want a healthy snack or meal bring a packed lunch, there are tables and chairs free to use. TIP: on busy weekends and holidays buy tickets with the app and avoid cues. Bring a big water proof bag to leave in designated area at poolside as lockers run out quickly. Bring your own snack. Don’t let downsides stop you from checking this place out-it’s really good!

I wasn't sure what to expect because the reviews were so mixed. We found the place very clean and well staffed. There are plenty of play areas for kids, lots of ways for them to be entertained in the water. There is a large lap pool, but the water is deep. There is also a pool with diving boards. Waterslides and a rock climbing wall. As seniors, my husband and I spent most of our time in the "wellness area". The wellness area is meant to be a quiet zone for ages 16 and up. It was quiet and pleasant. A few times family with young children came in and I chased them out. I don't really understand why parents felt the need to come in with young children. There was nothing in there that was "fun" for kids and 80% of the facility is set up for kids. There were plenty of lockers. We didn't eat at the cafe, but we did bring some water and snacks. The views of the harbor from the wellness area were wonderful. My husband said it exceeded his expectations, which is high praise indeed. The bus stop is directly next to the facility, so it is easy to access using public transportation. You can purchase tickets in advance, but you have to have a VIPs mobile account, meaning you bank in Scandinavia.

Nestled in a picturesque wooden building near Gamle Bybro, Baklandet Skydsstation is a delightful café and restaurant that exudes charm and history. Once serving as a transport station, this cozy spot offers an array of homemade dishes, from traditional rakfisk to hearty reindeer stew and delectable cakes. Unfortunately it was hard to find local kitchen which isn't looking for Michelin stars (and price it) but here it is. Nice and cosy living room type premises, super nice and friendly personnel and the food was just extremely delicious and full of love. I had the fish soup for lunch and came back in the evening for the herring plate. Thank you very much ❤️

Like most things here it’s expensive. I did enjoy sitting outside on a beautiful day. The service was friendly. They don’t have a lot of the wines on their menu. My husband really wanted to try some reindeer stew. He’s glad he did, he can check that off. But it was served at room temperature. My Swedish meatball sandwich had 1 meatball in the center of each slice bread. It tasted fine. I liked the pea puree and was grateful for the lingonberry sauce it made the meatballs edible. Someone else would probably enjoy the bread it was too dense and heavy for me. $23 for each item plus $17 for a glass of Riesling. They didn’t have any of the other white options that were $14. But it was fine. I’m not a Riesling person or Chardonnay. Should stick with water. I did see the shrimp sandwich and the ice dessert. Those both looked really good.

Its better to reserve online, We were there and had reindeer stew and meatballs, as well as a tomato soup. It’s a gem! Cool very old, authentic house oozing with history and character and super friendly staff. There are many small rooms that were full of local Norwegians enjoying the evening when we were there. I booked a table earlier in the day and we had a lovely spot in the front room near the bar, we were served by the friendly and passionate owner who gave us a tour of the rooms upstairs that are available for private dinners and her energy and enthusiasm about the restaurant was fantastic. Our dinner and drinks were casual and delicious too!

Got this as a recommendation from our host where we stayed and what a hit! Fantastic food especially the reindeer stew was delicious, not to forget the fish soup... The staff was stressed 'cause apparently was also graduation day... but at the end they all handled everything well in this atmospheric restaurant where literally nothing is straight 😝... And that for a very reasonable price according to non-Norwegian standards...

Cute, tasty, economic, cosy: we had a Sunday lunch of fish soup, local beer and sandwiches and it was perfect. Would eat everything on the menu. One of the few spaces in the city that is not *too much*. Despite it being full service was spot on.

The restaurant boasts a charming setting in the historic district, offering a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere with views of the cathedral. However, the food was underwhelming and the service disappointing, with excessively long waiting times. It was absolutely amazing, once in a lifetime experience. 3rd row is the best row. Seats were comfortable, did squeak when we moved backwards. The sound in the show was amazing, the speakers was really 360, only problem was when the Roger Waters spoke it was impossible to tell what he was saying because the music was too loud. Obviously it was clear some one was talking, but it was just noise. The quality of the entire experience was just amazing, I know I already said that but it truly was amazing. In the heart of Trondheim lies Torvet, a central square featuring a towering column topped with a statue of King Olav Tryggvason. This monument has been a long-standing desire for the town, dating back to 1860. The sculpture was eventually realized by Brynjulf Bergslien in 1897 but unfortunately deteriorated due to its perishable material.

Phatlada V — Google review
There had long been a wish for a monument to the town's founder and King of Norway, Olav Tryggvason (approximately 968–1000). As early as in 1860, the sculptors Hans Michelsen and Ole Laulo were already in the picture, but only with the 900-year celebration of the town in 1897 did the idea come to fruition, and the assignment was given to Brynjulf Bergslien. The sculpture was placed in the north end of Ilevold Park. Unfortunately, it was made from perishable material that soon dissolved. The statue now standing in Torvet (the city market square) was made by the sculptor Wilhelm Rasmussen during the years 1917-1921

Stiftsgården is an elegant Baroque townhouse in Trondheim, Norway, which became the property of the Norwegian royal family in 1906. Originally built in 1778 as a private residence for Christine Scholler, it now serves as the official residence for the royal family during their visits to Trondheim. With over 100 rooms, it is one of Europe's largest wooden buildings and showcases remarkable 18th-century Baroque architecture.
Really worth checking out. They do guided tours once an hour and you're not allowed to take any photos for security reasons. Are guide was super knowledgeable and great at telling the history of the building.
Urszula J — Google review
We enjoyed our visit to the oldest and grandest wooden building which is now used occasionally as a Royal Residence. The tour was interesting although we only saw 11 of the 140 rooms. This was explained as being for security reasons and indoor photography is therefore not allowed. The guide said that it wasn't "as grand as your Buckingham Palace" and not so grand as many National Trust properties but it does have a fascinating history.
Lynne F — Google review

Ok everyone. Seriously, this tour is terrible. Do not waste your money on it. If you have toured ANY great homes or palaces, you'll be sorely disappointed with this. 1. There are 140 rooms. You get to see 13 of them. 2. Virtually all the rooms are the same... they're receiving rooms. You don't get to see anything like parlors, bedrooms, kitchen areas... just 13 of the same thing. Ultra boring. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Who would imagine this simple, humble townhouse building along the main street is the Royal residence? Well, it is the residence the Royal family staying when they visiting Trondheim city. We were unlucky, the place was closed during our visit.
Jo L — Google review

This place is hardly a tourist attraction. It seems that they could care less about attracting tourists. Indeed there were no signs anywhere regarding the hours, or how to find the entrance, and I only learned when I got there that the times on Google were incorrect, and that in fact the last tour is at 3:00 p.m., and in this case that the last tour was in German. Hence it was impossible to actually see the inside of the palace. But through the windows, it didn't look that great. More importantly, they make no effort to provide a good experience for visitors to the city.

There's an obelisk in the middle of the square commemorating Olav Tryggvason, a Viking chieftrain who was said to be the founder of the settlement that grew into what would be called Trondheim. Visited in November 2024 Seems to be an interesting neighborhood - relaxed but has character. Home to the colorful row of shop houses that made Trondheim famous - most of these now are turned into pubs, coffee shops, boutiques etc. There is a unique bicycle lift system that is meant to help folks to hoist their bikes up the steep slope, although my local friend said it was to be phased out due to frequent breakdown and lack of use (the terrain around the city doesn't seem to be ideal for commuting using bicycle though). Most of the residential neighborhood is located uphill, between the intersection and Kristiansen fort.

Bakklandet is the ancient and beautiful heart of the Trondheim working class up until and way through the Industrial Revolution. The colorful two-story wooden houses are crammed into this tiny flat area between the river Nid and the hill to the east of the city center. Essentially a mud-bank which has to be stabilized every time a contractor wants to dig anywhere. It is a tourist attraction, a biking connection lane, a small-shop artisan collection, a café and drinks option and well worth a visit no matter the season.

The establishment consists of a fine-dining restaurant on the first floor and a more relaxed bistro and cocktail bar on the second floor. Fagn received its first Michelin star in 2019, making it one of the two restaurants in Trondheim to achieve this prestigious recognition that year.
Creative and delicious food. The juice pairings are spot on. If I insist on finding a flaw, it is that I had to pour my own water. For a Michelin starred fine dining restaurant, I would not have expected that. Otherwise, it was perfect
Jessica R — Google review
The food was very good, but the "premium" wine was NOT premium quality, and each pour was no more than 3 ounces at most. The cost for 4 small glasses of wine was $183 USD, but I looked up the pricing for each of the wines I was served, and none were more than a $30 USD per bottle.

It's my first visit to Michelin restaurant and it was great. From the first until last minute everything is well-prepared and feels comfortable: service, attention to details, stuff. Service itself is not visible: they come, serve the food, provide details and open to answer any questions. I asked a lot, and got all answers. Very polite, calm and professional. Food itself - something that is hard to find in the city, I don't know even if it's possible. A lot of fish dishes, I believe it's mostly in honor of Norwegian history and easy fish availability. Only one dish was with meat and that duck, save God your soul, was amazing, serving was like a piece of meet looks like an island in the forest surrounded by sea and rocks. Very impressive. I would definitely recommend if you can go there and experience Michelin level of restaurant.
Andrii — Google review
We had a three course dinner - a starter, main course and dessert. The quality of the food was awesome except for the salty potatoes in the main course. My wife loved the non-vegetarian items. But, the vegetarian main course was a huge disappointment. Instead of the duck breast, they gave one cut carrot. If you are a vegetarian, it is not worth the money.

Fantastic kitchen with Scandinavian touch On its way to a two star Michelin rating Very friendly professional staff Many dishes were also served by the chefs Truly impressed by some signature dishes Rendeer heart ice cream (my summary of the dish) and a potato dish having the feel and touch of tagliatelle Very nice wine pairing We went on a Wednesday : offering a menu prepared by bistro and the signature restaurant Very impressed Strongky recommended

The most delicious food I had during my trip in Norway. Very creative with lots of textures and taste. The desert ice cream made of local herbs was stunning. The wine pairing was worth it, with large variety (Riesling from Germany, Arbois from France, Albarino from Spain, Chianti from italy, and a nice fortified wine for finishing). The place is comfy and cute, maybe a little noisy to hear all advices from staff but the service is very good. Will definitely come back.

Easily the greatest food experience I've ever had. The servers were accommodating, knowledgeable, passionate, and extremely kind, and the food was obviously incredible. Innovative and complex, but still highlighting natural flavours and utilising simple ingredients in a way that made each dish an absolute masterpiece. Of all the starred restaurants in Trondheim, this is undoubtedly the only one I will come back to.
Sharon — Google review
We really wanted to love this place but found every dish much too salty. We ate at the bistro and had the 5-course menu. The over-salted food was such a shame, because the ingredients themselves were all otherwise really fresh. Good service and nice atmosphere. Would have been 5* if not for the salt

Korsvika is a beautiful coastal area on the outskirts of Trondheim, offering small inlets with sandy beaches and coastal rocks. It's a family-friendly spot perfect for sunbathing and picnicking by the sea, with amenities like parking, toilets, picnic tables, and fireplaces available. Visitors can enjoy activities such as swimming, hiking, fishing (though it may be challenging to find good spots), or simply unwinding with yoga or meditation while taking in great ocean views.
A lovely outdoors spot with football field, beach, toilets (could have been cleaner, no paper) and a great coastal walk. The walk has a lot of ups and downs so some fitness is required. Old bunkers on the walk made it interested also for a preteen boy. The parking is a little limited by space and time, no camping allowed.

Museums
Trondheim Kunstmuseum, located near the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway, is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. The museum houses an extensive collection of Norwegian and Danish paintings dating back to the early 19th century. Notably, it features lithographs by renowned artist Edvard Munch. Free guided tours are available on Sunday afternoons.
I recently visited Kunstmuseum Trondheim, and I had an incredible time. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and the exhibitions are truly outstanding. The admission price is very affordable, even for a broke student like me. I initially went in to escape the rain, and I ended up staying for hours. After exploring the exhibitions, I relaxed in the cozy lobby on comfortable sofas, read a book, and browsed through a photo book of paintings. The free coffee available to all visitors was a nice touch. It was the perfect way to hide from the rain and spend time in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Beautiful selection and presentation with surprises in each room. Great and helpful staff 👌
Finn A — Google review
The permanent collection on exhibit is rather small. I found it uninteresting. There was this piece of digital art, a flickering screen with a monotonous chatting voice, that made it very difficult for me to focus on the paintings in the room, and in the adjacent rooms as well. It had a pause button that didn't work for me. A temporary exhibit of Else Hagen's works was much more satisfying. Uploaded are the annoying video and a painting of Else Hagen.
Atanas R — Google review
A prime example of why real art shouldn’t be blended with modern, gaudy crap made of rubbish. The real art is simply lost in it. Not all contemporary art is that terrible, of course, but that was the first time I felt sad for my wasted 160(+-something) nok…

The Trondheim Maritime Museum is a charming tribute to the city's seafaring and commercial history, housed in a historic 18th-century building. It showcases the evolution of navigation from the 17th century to modern times, with exhibits featuring model boats, photos, and memorabilia. The museum takes visitors on a journey through the eras of sail and steam navigation, offering insights into sailors' lives aboard ships.
This is a small museum with lots of content! There are things that both adults and children will find engaging. It was also nice to see English translations of everything in the museum as well. I spent around one hour here, but those with more maritime enthusiasm could spend even longer.

The bar Trondheim Camping is a great place to hang out with friends. The 12 mini golf fields are very fun, and the drinks are good too. The only downside is the smell of the popcorn, but it's still a really cool place to visit!
This was fun. The holes offered a variety of challenges, some more difficult than others. The interactive holes were very good. The fruity IPA was delicious too.

I had no idea this city had an inside minigolf up until now! You'll have some of the standards, but then they show up with some of the most creative courses I've ever seen! Highly recommend it just for a random fun time! 🎉 Just make sure you don't have a lot of extra stuff on you as the lockers ain't working anymore due to people forgetting to give the locks back to the owners 👍

Really cool place with a huge selection of fast food from all corners of the world. It’s worth a visit and a taste of different cultures. 🌎🥙 Waffles were incredible. 🧇❤️ Empanada was too much greasy, not worth it. 👎

Today, I tried their freshly made samosas in Curry in an Hurry and they were amazing, crispy on the outside and perfectly spiced on the inside. You can really taste the freshness. They were hot, flaky, and full of flavour. Definitely worth trying if you love authentic, tasty snacks. Highly recommended!
Prabavathi A — Google review
Lager11 has a cozy atmosphere especially now when you can watch the football matches. You can order by scanning the QR code on the tables. The food really varies a lot in flavors and quality. Personally I would avoid all the fried food as it came greasy and cold (frites with the cheeseballs). The tacos tasted fine, but the shells were too thin and everything fell through it before we could pick it up it also contained too much liquid. The quesadillas, dumplings and gnocchi were great! The beer tasting is also recommended! You sat at long tables and benches, wasn’t getting cleaned nor stable. It wiggles whenever someone is moving.

Munkholmen, a small island near Trondheim, is rich in history and offers a glimpse into its past as a place of execution during the Viking Age and later as a monastery. In the Middle Ages, it served as both a fortress and prison. Accessible by a short boat trip from the city center, Munkholmen provides stunning views of Trondheim. Visitors can enjoy guided tours in Norwegian or English to learn about its intriguing history.
It is definitely a must when you're visiting Trondheim! Short boat ride and nice view of the city. Once there, you can get a guided tour (very interesting, knowledgeable tour guide who actually wrote a manuscript about the place) in Norwegian and English. Has an awesome room for signers/musicians, shaped as a dome which allows the sound to travel and an echo that perfectly rounds the sound. We stayed for half an hour there just singing and producing sound for fun. You can also have a picnic or swim I'd the weather is nice, and there is a restaurant with sweets and good local dishes as well. Be aware of the schedule of the boat not to miss the hourly boat ride back to Trondheim!
Martina D — Google review
Really great guided tour- if you forgot to buy tickets on land, you can buy them on an island in the cafeteria.
Jacek K — Google review
Nice place for half day trip. It's kinda historical place of Trondheim, there's a short excursion at the island where very experienced and very smart man tell a story of the island and the most famous prisoners. Some people are coming here for having picnic or swim. There's a ferry goes there and back every hour, just buy tickets there and back and use any time you Ned to go back. Usually not so crowded. I spent there approximately 2 hours and it was quite windy, so keep it in mind what to bring with you if needed.
Andrii — Google review
I managed to visit on a dry day despite the forecast of rain. It was cold but sunny. I paid to visit the island but chose not to have the guided tour. What I didn’t know was that you can't go into the main, round building if you've not bought a tour. So instead I sat in the sun on the sheltered side of the island and enjoyed the solitude, with the waves lapping at the shore and the sea bird squalking. Afterwards I went and had tea and cake in the cafe where it turns out you can buy a tour ticket (although it was too late for me). The island is small with a bathing beach and barbecue area. The ferry leaves Trondheim on the hour, returning at quarter past. Keep an eye out for the time of the last boat back or you'll be stranded there overnight!
Graham H — Google review
Beautiful small island just outside Trondheim!! Recommend to do the visit to the old fortress. The guide was nice, same as all the people working there. If you have a sunny day, pack your swimsuit and enjoy the small beach!!!
Matias T — Google review
Wonderful place, not too expensive to get to, the tour isn't too expensive, but cafe and gift shop is pricy. The tour shows both the wonderful and disgraceful things that's happened throughout the years. The guide tells a wide, wonderful, interesting and full story of the last 1500 years compromised into 20(+/-)minutes. Would definitely recommend if you want to experience a big bit of history, but don't have much time. Boat leaves Trondheim each full hour and returns every 15 min over an hour.

We enjoyed the food a lot. Super lovely staff, very attentive. Made good recommendations too. I tried the cocktail of the week which was a great mixture of raspberry, apple and vodka. Delicious crayfish. Dishes nicely prepared and crafted and lovely to look at. For five dishes (2x starters, 2x mains, 1x dessert) and three drinks (1x cocktail, 2x wines) we paid around 2,200 kr in total. Which is totally justified and fair for what you get. 100 % recommend this gorgeous restaurant.

The charming outdoor seating area offers a delightful space for summer gatherings, making it an ideal spot to enjoy meals while soaking up the scenic views of colorful harbor buildings.
Troll, Trondheim: A culinary adventure not to miss! Hands down, Troll offered our best dining experience in Norway. For me their select menu was a clear sign of quality, and boy did that assumption deliver. We opted for the 5-course journey, and WOW – the chef took us on an incredible culinary adventure! It was the same amount of food as the 3-course, but with more diverse and exciting flavors. Every plate looked like a small piece of art. My taste buds were definitely jumping with joy with every bite I took. The service was excellent; staff were super friendly and diligently checked for any dietary restrictions or allergies. Had a five course meal. Most of the dishes were something easily made at home. The first main dish was too cold, and the second main dish was too hot. The dessert was a single pancake with some berries. Our waiter was not very welcoming, however the apprentice was nice. We did not feel that we got an «experience», and not rnough value for the price.

A simply fantastic location for this restaurant overlooking the Trondheim canal. The venue offers both elegant indoor dining rooms and a magnificent outdoor area. The latter is cleverly divided into a restaurant section, shielded by glass panels to enjoy the view in any weather, and a more casual area for drinks. From here, you can admire an unparalleled view of the picturesque, colorful houses lining the canal, creating a truly unique atmosphere. The culinary offering is remarkable for its variety and quality, with the option to choose between tasting menus and a wide à la carte selection. The menu strikes a fine balance between fish, meat, and vegetarian/vegan dishes. I particularly appreciated the meticulous attention to allergens, which are clearly listed on the menu and proactively mentioned by the attentive and well-prepared staff. The mussel dish was unforgettable: incredibly fresh, served with a delicate sauce and perfumed with local herbs that enhanced their flavor. The selection of sparkling wines was also excellent, featuring several labels of Crémant and Prosecco. A special mention goes to the details, such as the tea served in a French press, prepared and presented impeccably. The service was efficient, professional, and consistently friendly. Finally, it's worth noting the complete absence of architectural barriers, making the restaurant accessible to everyone. An experience I would absolutely recommend."

Great culinary experience in the harbour of Trondheim. We had the 5-course menu and it was a delicious! The waiter (with moustache and glasses) was super friendly and introduced every course by himself. If you have any allergies, it’s not a problem. They can adjust every course to your needs. There were also vegetarian options. However, I recommend to communicate the possibility of changing the food for allergies more directly, as this is sometimes a showstopper for people with allergies when it’s not clear from reading the Menu. They did a great job to adjust the courses for the allergies in our group (milk, celery). Thank you very much!

Wholly unimpressed with dining here. I was very excited to eat here as they describe their tasting menu as traditional Norwegian food with a modern twist, but what was served to me felt bland, uninspired, and at times, pre-packaged from a grocery store. Service was fine, though the servers weren’t necessarily the warmest. With the five-course meal, the dishes were spaced appropriately in between except the dessert, which came thirty minutes after the fourth dish and had to be asked for. The first course was a shrimp salad, bland and the shrimp were rubbery. Second course was a small slice of filet with a sauce that seemed to taste like French dressing, maybe a paprika mayonnaise/dressing that is popular in Norway for take away foods from a convenience store? The filet was fine but bland, it was on a spoonful of coleslaw which was also bland. The best part of the dish was the pickled onions but maybe not what I would want remembered about a filet dish. Third course was probably the best, a whitefish that was cooked well over a carrot purée, fennel fronds, and caramelized onions. Fourth course was a braised pork cheek, the meat was tender but the whole dish was sloppy and too sweet, like there was a hoisin sauce accident in the kitchen. Fifth course was a sad version of a crepe with berries, and a melted dollop of some sort of chocolate sauce. I had one taste of the crepe and ate the berries and gave up. I’ve eaten all over the world, from street vendors to Michelin Star restaurants, and know that you can get great food for cheap and great food for a ton of money. This place was neither, and i spent a ton of money coming to that conclusion. Best part about this restaurant was its atmosphere, which was low lit and moody, with interesting light fixtures and edgy pictures on the walls. My home has those things too though and i can experience it for free. Maybe it was an off day because i see a lot of people who have given the restaurant high ratings, but i wasn’t feeling it and i don’t think it was worth the price tag.

The five course menu here is a good way to explore a variety of typical dishes that the restaurant offers. An excellent sea scallop was followed by a dish of marinated mink whale, not something that we would have ordered from the a la carte menu). A deftly seared piece of pollock and rosy slices of beef came next before the superb cheese cake dessert with rhubarb.

Nestled in the charming district of Bakklandet in Trondheim, Kalas & Canasta is a delightful restaurant housed in a 19th-century wooden building. The cozy bistro exudes a homely atmosphere with its quirky decor and hidden corners. Emphasizing quality and seasonal ingredients, the eatery offers a small lunch menu, weekend brunch, and limited dinner options.
We stumbled upon this place while sitting in a bar across the street, having some drinks and searching for a spot for dinner. Although we didn’t have a reservation, we were seated at a window table, which allowed us to take in the views of the city and watch the raindrops shimmer in the sun outside. The service was impeccable—our waiters were friendly and accommodating. They threw in a joke here and there, which added to the pleasant ambiance of the evening. The most notable thing about this place was the food. Each dish was not only crafted to perfection but also boasted fresh, flavorful ingredients. I “take my hat off” to the chef! 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 Every single bite was like a party in my mouth. 😄 The fish was flavorful and cooked to perfection, and the steak was juicy and perfectly rare. The dessert was like the food of the gods! It melted in my mouth—I had to order a second one just to savor the flavor a little longer. My photos might not do the dishes justice, but I promise you it’ll be the best dinner you’ve ever had.

An excellent find, and a worthy standout from the other great options in the area! Other reviews are right! Oh my freaking tummy, the food here is mind-blowing!! I can't believe I'd ever say this but... the Hummus was the winner for us- the best we've ever had!! Qe ordered the Fiske Soup (Fish Soup) which was pretty good too, and several other things. Service was really really really good. We enjoyed every bit of our time here. The ambiance is cosy, romantic, with a lot of different indoor areas, and outdoor seating to enjoy the sunshine on a beautiful day. Highly highly recommend this place. Thank you Kalas & Canasta!! Mmmmm...hummus, Lovely. We'll be back!!

The fish soup tasted very good, but it was a somewhat stingy bowl. Not so the amazing piece of duck breast, perfectly cooked. The Valrhona chocolate dessert was a bit muted and tasted like an ordinary chocolate mousse. The enclosed room in the back, surely a delightful space in normal temperatures, had turned into a sauna after a series of really hot days and was very uncomfortable (the cooler tables outside were full).

Absolutely amazing gastronomic evening. From the welcome at the door to the explanation of each dish put in front of us this is how a restaurant should be run. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Absolutely amazing. Wish I could give six stars.

I had a great meal here! We didn’t have a reservation, so we started outside, but the staff quickly found us a cozy indoor table within five minutes, so they were super accommodating. I got the meat of the day, a beef tenderloin, which was cooked perfectly, and the scallops were absolutely spectacular. The service was friendly, the food was excellent, and the space had a really cute, comfy vibe. I’d definitely go back.

Obsessed with Kalas & Canasta, it is a restaurant i would visit again and again as well as recommend anyone who is visiting this awesome city. Funky space, warm and interactive server (shout out to Anders, he was wonderful!), stellar food with gorgeous plating. Had a perfectly seasoned amuse bouche of a paprika based fish salad on a whole seed cracker, paired with a light Prosecco. The scallop appetizer was beautifully plated with a lemon creme sauce and pickled ginger, with squid ink honeycomb twilles that gave an umami zing and little crunch throughout! The fish soup was delicate, herby, and light enough to let the fish shine with hints of fennel throughout. The bread served with it had a grain mustard spread, and probably some of the best bread I’ve had in Norway. It was all so good I want to go back while I’m here in Trondheim and try more of this innovative and beautiful menu.

We stopped in last minute and were told we could sit outside as we did not have reservations and all tables had been reserved. About 10 minutes in, the waiter came out and said there had been a cancellation and offered to sit us inside. The food was amazing. I got the meat of the day (beef tenderloin) and it was delicious. If I am ever in Norway again I will be back! The staff were all amazing as well.

Restaurant
Bula Neobistro, located in Trondheim, is a stylish and eclectic dining establishment run by renowned chef Renee Fagerho. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience with surprise five- or ten-course menus that keep guests guessing until they arrive.
They made for us one of the best vegan meals we've ever had (10 courses too!) despite not being a vegan restaurant. Best restaurant in Trondheim in my opinion. Only thing I would say is the non-alcoholic pairing with 10 courses is a lot of sugar from all the juice -- more than we could handle in one sitting, and the jelly shot at the end was too acidic. But that's nitpicking a pretty perfect meal otherwise :)
Christian P — Google review
Chef Renee is well known in the Trondheim culinary scene as a visionary who’s not afraid to experiment with new ideas. I had the 5-course menu, which came with a few delightful extras by default: fresh bread, a pre-appetizer, and an after-dessert. The menu featured both meat and fish dishes, paired with vegetables. The flavors were unique and clearly crafted with skill—definitely not something you could easily recreate at home. I especially enjoyed the main courses with fish and meat. That said, 3 out of the 5 dishes were a bit too sour for my taste. I’m not sure if that was intentional or a one-off, which is why I’m not giving a perfect rating for the food. Service was great—friendly and attentive staff who introduced each dish and were happy to answer questions. Overall, I’d recommend a visit and would consider coming back to try the 10-course menu. The menu changes often.

Overall good taste food, the chef knows what they are making. However, they may slap you with additional offerings which might turnout too expensive on the bill, you think it is part of the meal but nope it was additional cost.

We went to Bula to celebrate our engagement. In advance, communication was great and we were given seats at the chefs table. From beginning to end the service was exceptional and it really felt like the staff was celebrating with us. The 5 course menu was a treat for the senses with interesting flavors, textures and presentation. Although seriously operating gastronomy at a high level, the ambience and interaction made it fun and approachable.

The Britannia Hotel, an iconic establishment in Trondheim since 1870, underwent a $160 million renovation in 2019 to become the epitome of modern luxury. This five-star hotel offers bright rooms and suites, four upscale restaurants including Speilsalen with a Michelin star, two bars, and a posh spa. With its rich history of serving explorers, royalty, and celebrities from around the world, this privately owned hotel is now part of The Leading Hotels of The World.
We traveled with our baby and the hotel had absolutely everything we needed. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was outstanding , delicious, fresh, and with a wide variety of options. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable, and spotless. Truly a five-star experience .We would love to come back!

I stayed in so many hotels all over Norway for the past 12 years (4 and 5 star hotels) and of all these hotels Britannia stands out the most. I was extremely impressed with everything this hotel had to offer. We arrived early and the receptionist told us our rooms were ready. The rooms were impeccably clean and the carpet was spotless (something that you can't always find even in top end hotels). My daughter was given a very cute teddy bear and a child robe to use at the swimming pool. The concierge went out of his way to walk with us instead of just show us on the map a place we wanted to visit. The housekeepers were very friendly and helpful and the turn down service was more thorough than other 5 star hotels. The breakfast was extraordinary with some of the best fruit selections I've ever seen. There was also a pinaist playing during breakfast and the ambience was very calm and relaxing. If I compare Britannia to Sommerro and The Grand (two of the best hotels in Oslo), I'd say Britannia is far ahead of these two. This hotel was a lovely surprise and I wouldn't mind coming back again to Trondheim just to stay again in this hotel. Thank you so much for making our stay memorable!

Amazing hotel with great F&B options, one of the best breakfast's I've had in a while and the main level bar is phenomenal. We had a gorgeous room in the historic component but the bed is a real dilemma. It was a very small queen bed with a major foot rest that makes it impossible for anyone 5'9" or above to properly sleep. We were there as part of a large group and this seemed to be a dilemma for everyone, hopefully they update the bed frames to be of 5 star quality. The spa is amazing, would recommend as well.

Beautiful hotel in Trondheim. Our Superior room was small with a view of a brick wall, but we still thought it was a great stay. Bed was very comfortable and the mirror on the wall was also the TV, so it was an easy room to be in. The bar was a lovely black and white room with cocktails (and art) named after previous staff. Lovely champagnes by the glass and such great staff! Breakfast was one of the best, with more than fresh omelettes being cooked to order. Dinner both nights was in the Brasserie- nice and casual and really good food and service (thanks Isabella!) . This was a delightful hotel- loved it.

This is a truly great hotel. In the grand old tradition of fine service and older values but wit a modern slant. The rooms are old works and the staff have a a respectful attitude. All very good and room service excellent. My only observation catheter seems ybcharacterustucakknmodetn with the history and call of the building and I think if there is every a revamp it should go back to a more old works entrance. But it’s still the best in Trondheim.

What an elegant hotel! We had an amazing stay-the staff was so help and friendly- the breakfast was one of he best I have energy had - great location for walking - beautiful relaxing spa with saunas and cold plunge and a hot tub either a starry sky view - we had dinner at the Johnathan Grill where we had an excellent steak then we went to the wine bar the relax - we will definitely come back

The Britannia was an amazing experience, and I would recommend it to anyone staying in Trondheim. We felt like royalty staying here, and particularly enjoyed our visit to the spa. There were a lot of great restaurants and sightseeing opportunities within walking distance, and everyone at the hotel was friendly, helpful, and welcoming.
Rory M — Google review
Overpriced. The hotel is generally in great shape, the renovation of the historic building has been executed with high quality materials. Yet, at least the standard room which I got, was very tiny and lacked any view, which felt off for its price. Some details were a bit weird: e.g. the door to the room would open to the outside floor due to the lack of space in the room. And some details were even annoying: a sensor would turn on one light in the room every time you enter the room or go to the bathroom). Why? And at least I couldn't figure a way to turn this off. Breakfast buffet is good quality with a good selection. However, a proper a la carte menu would be something I'd have expected at that price point, not just a live egg station. Overall, feels like an expensive hotel where someone poured in a lot of money to renovate it and kept the rooms a bit too small to maximise their number. Service was good.

Credo restaurant, previously located in an old narrow street in Trondheim, has now been relocated to a new venue in Lilleby. The new location houses not only Credo but also its casual bistro Jossa and Edoramen, offering a variety of dining experiences for different budgets. Chef Heidi Bjerkan's dedication to local produce and sustainable cooking earned the restaurant a Michelin star in 2019.
We have eaten at many great restaurants, but this one reserves a special note. They created a gluten, egg and lactose free menu for me with one day notice. And it tasted unbelievably good! I wish I could have the recipes! It was out of this world! The wine pairing let’s you discover so many new wines from around the globe. The members of staff went out of their way with such natural charm, it was incredible to experience it all. You can watch the work of the kitchen from your table and it makes you feel like you are part of a theatre play. Every scene, every move was timed to perfection with great harmony. The art that surrounded us added to the uniqueness of this space.

Great food, with a focus on fresh and raw ingredients. Fantastic service and wine/drink pairings. The cost is certainly high, but you absolutely get what you pay for. The only reason I would not give five stars is because I wasn't as overwhelmed as I hoped I'd be by the flavors, but nevertheless I was impressed and had a fantastic evening.

What a meal! Love the way we were brought on a journey. Starting on the mezzanine with Champagne, cider and snacks. Seated in, and sat with, the pinnacle of Norwegian furniture design from the likes of Sven Ivar Dysthe and Torbjørn Afdal. The focus on local production was not only applied to the food. After walking down, we had several fantastic dishes in the restaurant. The coppa and potatocake, lamb, crayfish and breiflabb/angler stood out. Great wine pairings as well. Loved the Testalonga El Bandito "I wish I was a ninja" and also the Arnot-Roberts Sonoma Coast Syrrah. Most of the cutlery were vintage Norwegian design from Skaugum and Hardangerbestikk. Nice detail. The restaurant has several cows milking just for them. And the desert was a very nice milk ice cream. The plum sake we had with it was delicious. On our way back up to the mezzanine for a coffee and some "lørdagsgodt" we were treated to a small tour of the restaurant. Sneak peak into the kitchen, visit to the upstairs wine room, information about the art and some of the plants they grown and use. This was pretty close to perfect and a meal I'll remember my whole life.

I cannot say enough about this place so I take my word that it will not disappoint. Just go. My favorite Michelin rated restaurant on the planet. The non-alcoholic drink pairing was incredible and diverse and way more intreaguig and reflective of local ingenuity and taste than any boring predictable wine menu. But their wines are great too. Their own beehives on the roof too! Staff was happy. Plenty of fancy places look great but ask the waitstaff how they are respected and there can be telling hesitation. None of that. The love shines through and makes everything taste great. I love the pre-dinner chill space and menu too
Ånni A — Google review
My wife and I visited Credo for her birthday and we were blown away in every single possible way. Food, service, ambiance were impeccable. What an experience! Wine paring was absolutely beautiful, every dish has its own character, which were perfected by accompanying wine pairings. Wine paring is a must if visitors are wine enthusiasts. On the day of visit, overall courses were 21 small, but creative dishes centered around local ingredients. Texture and aroma together with wines, they managed to perfect every single dish. Yes, it is expensive, and I wouldn't recommend visiting Credo every other day. But if you know how well prepared meal should taste like, it is worth every single NOK.

Tavern på Sverresborg is a picturesque and historic inn dating back to 1739, featuring 16 rooms each with its own unique character. The typical Scandinavian style is perfectly preserved with details like candlesticks, large windows, wooden floors, and lace tablecloths creating an authentic Nordic atmosphere. Guests can savor traditional Norwegian cuisine such as homemade meatballs with boiled potatoes, lingonberries, and carrots or baked salmon with seasonal vegetables.
I enjoyed my meal. I had the meatballs with boiled potatoes, cranberries, and carrots, and maybe lentils... Not sure what they were. Friendly and prompt service. Some kind and outgoing patrons stopped to chat with me and that itself was a warm and welcomed experience. I would love to have another meal at this charming, historic, and delicious restaurant. It's worth experiencing at least once.

Established in 1739, it must be one of the oldest restaurants in town. It’s a little bit outside of downtown Trondheim, but not that far, you could even walk there if you don’t mind the hills. :) The inside looks super charming and definitely looks like they’ve tried to keep the original appearance, but they also have tables outside for the nice summer days. I had a proper Norwegian salmon dish and was perfectly cooked. :) Wine selection was pretty decent as well. And my vegetarian friend was able to find a good vegetarian burger as well.

Mushy "klubb", with cold reheated vegetable fries. Tavern used to be good but current owners seem to have cut cost and compromised quality. The atmosphere and building is nice, so it's decent for a beer but stay away from the food. We did get a discount after complaining!

Went here for some authentic Norwegian food. I had the brattsjø, if you’re American you should make sure you know what you’re ordering on that one. It was as advertised, not bad either. My family had the meatballs, everyone cleaned their plates! The place is nice and the staff is pleasant and extremely polite. Good spot for a family dinner.

The dinner: We ate the Spring chicken which was described as grilled, this was somewhat strange. as it had no trace of either a grill taste or marks. The skin was softer and relatively tasteless, the chicken meat was edible. But the lack of spices, such as salt, pepper or things like paprika, or garlic was the taste of it. The vegetables that were included as a side dish were tasteless and could well have been joined by more spices. The Bernaise sauce was serviceable, the potato side dish was cold, tasteless and not very inviting as the potatoes were not properly cooked. The service was serviceable. The price for two main courses with drinks was reasonable. But all things considered, it was not a visit we valued significantly, or enjoyed the food, we will not return as customer.

As a desperate devoted fan of all medieval museums/exhibitions, I have just one question to the designers of Middelalderutstillingen: why? It feels that the initial intention was to design a haunted house (which they kind of did) with a number of historical exhibits and as little light as possible. Medieval times were dark, right? People were miserable, dirty, and creepy, right? Well, yes, but not all of them, and lurking around a dark corner creepily was not the only activity they had at their disposal. Putting so much emphasis on the “creepy” aspect of medieval times feels extremely one-sided and, unfortunately, drags attention from actually interesting things exhibited there. For example, Kuli stone, such an important Norwegian historical “document”, placed in a dark room with murky decorations and Tim Burton-styled tree shades. Just, why…To convey what message (“dark times of Christianity are upon us” or something like that)?.. Ok, I am done😅 The rest of the museum is very nice, the viking hall is great, impressive collection of swords ✨

A good museum curated by NTNU about animals and mainly, the Viking culture found in Norway. The museum has 4 floors of different displays, and another culture collection across the building. Den Siste Viking is a captivating tribute to Norway's rich Viking heritage, located conveniently near the bustling city center and the boat ticket office for Munkholmen Island. This statue commemorates the last Viking and draws inspiration from a 19th-century novel, making it an intriguing piece of art. While some visitors may find it less impressive as a standalone attraction, its historical significance ties back to Trondheim’s roots as a vital trading post established by King Olav Tryggvason in 997.
Has info on the concrete bottom. Very cool statue. It is based upon a novel from the 19th century.

(Translated by Google) Hello Norway tourists and vacationers! We're traveling on the MSC CRUISE ship! And of course, a lovely shore excursion in Trøndheim was also planned! This time, in beautiful sunshine, we were out walking! Through small, narrow, colorful alleys and wonderful paths under chestnut trees along the water! Today, there was even a brass band playing! In memory of a hero, the Vikings! (If I spelled something wrong, please correct me...) BUT it was all sooooo beautiful! The small cafés along the streets also invite you to enjoy delicious cakes and coffee! And then the street with the colorful parasols! Very romantic! I highly recommend Trøndheim! You can possibly get further into the city with a shuttle bus, BUT unfortunately, you won't see the little gems! Greetings, Gitte and Toni (Original) Hallo Norwegen Touristen und Urlauber!

(Translated by Google) The statue itself wasn't much to see, mostly just a statue by a harbor. That's all I understood anyway. Actually, well, in all honesty it wasn't something I would go just to look at. It's not worth it.

(Translated by Google) The monument located on the Ravnkloa pier is called “The Last Viking” (Den siste Viking). The monument is somewhat gloomy, made in the form of a fisherman, who is the hero of the novel of the same name by Johan Boyer about the life of Norwegian sailors. Made by Norwegian sculptor Nils Os. Nearby there is a fish market with a cafe and a small bay with fishing boats.   It is close to the fish market and is a statue of the last Viking. The Vikings traveled incredibly long journeys in open boats (500 miles or more) in very hostile winter conditions and make you wonder how hard life was in those days.

I was here just two weeks in January 2025 for the intensive course within the Choreomundus program. It is very nice university: beautiful, comfortable and friendly environment.

The only technical university in the country. It has multiple campuses in central Norway. medicine and ship technologies are the most important branches of science. It has two large campuses in Trondheim. Student population is one of the important issues of the city. but i think Trondheim could be a more lively student city.

Very large and modern university with nice interiour design. A vast variety of places to sit down and work alone, with sound isolation and electricity. Even some comfy places to relax exist with the occoasional sofa or a central beanbag areal. The majority of lecture rooms have electrical outlets under the desks. The Realfagbygget is just awesome.

Very unhelpful staff members, some of them didn't even speak English. Very outdated materials and confusing websites! I had a terrible time there during my exchange. Don't recommend it at all.

A small pub which does not welcome individuals of other cultures well. There’s a kind of tribalism amongst its most regular customers which in turn creates an excluding environment.
