The Bayeux Tapestry Museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, housing a 69-meter long embroidered cloth that depicts the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the Norman conquest of England. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers visitors a glimpse into medieval history through detailed images and symbols.
Nice small museum containing the tapestry. The audio guide is great, it's interesting and not too long. It also makes sure everyone keeps moving at the same speed, which was great. The upstairs area has some more information and some nice miniatures.
Laurens — Google review
I found my visit to the Bayeux Tapestry Museum to be fascinating. The audio tour was engaging. The rest of the Museum is engaging, and visitors learn plenty of history. PLEASE NOTE: tickets can only be purchased at the door; no tickets are sold online. I visited in August, on a Saturday in the late afternoon, and I only had to wait around ten minutes.
Bryan S — Google review
Visiting the Bayeux Museum was an unforgettable experience. The tapestry itself is perhaps the most extraordinary exhibit we have ever seen. The audio guide was excellent and made the story come alive. We felt very lucky to visit on the second-to-last day before the tapestry closed for restoration until 2027.
Olga G — Google review
Nice little museum in Bayeux housing the famous Bayeux tapestry depicting the story of the battle of Hastings 1066.. In fine embroidery detail... Surprisingly how long and how detailed it is.... and definitely worth seeing if in the area.. Entry fee of around €12.. Fyi.. the museum is closing September for refurbishment and the tapestry is coming to London to be displayed Yes worth a visit and certainly take time to explore the town
Mark S — Google review
Great museum to visiting, however it's too crowded. Consider arriving as early as possible in the morning to avoid waiting for hours to enter. Although an audio guide is included, it can't be paused once activated, leading many visitors to rush through viewing a tapestry in about 20 minutes and then leave after. On the other hand, story and details deserve to remain in the main exposition for as long as you want and explore multiple times.
Akim B — Google review
Very detailed audio guide with beautifully explained facts. Beautiful exhibition with ways of life from that times... a definitely worthy experience!
Mihai S — Google review
Big queues if you haven't already got a joint ticket from another of the town's museums. Amazing to see this wonderful art in person. Somewhat spoiled by the man videoing his way along (against the rules!) and the people holding up the line - they could really do with a staff member in the tapestry room to chaperone. Also there was the bonus exhibition of Pixi models, including their rendition of the tapestry. The museum is closed from 1st Sept 2025 for 2 years while a new display space is being built.
Laura G — Google review
Surprisingly good for children. They get their own separate audio guide which keeps it moving, and keeps it interesting. We were out in 30 minutes. The tour could have been longer for adults certainly! The tapestry is incredible, precious, expressive and enlightening. UNESCO listed, as almost 1,000 years old.

Cemeteries
The Bayeux British War Cemetery, the largest of its kind in France, is a solemn tribute to the 4,144 Commonwealth soldiers and 500 others laid to rest there. Opposite stands the Bayeux Memorial to the Missing, honoring 1,808 men who perished in the Battle of Normandy with no known grave.
Essential visit to take a moment to reflect on the horrendous cost of war. Largest Commonwealth cemetery in France, with the dead of many other nations also interred there. The CWGC website has a directory and maps.
Byron F — Google review
A beautifully well kept cemetery which shows respect for the war dead. We visited the German and American war cemeteries which accounted for the fallen from the Normandy battles and this is very different. It is completely open, the cemetery has the graves of British, Canadian, French, Soviet, Italian and many German graves. It is well worth visiting to walk amongst the fallen.
Colin B — Google review
One of the highlights of our trip around Normandy. We had visited the American cemetery earlier the same day, but for us, this one was even more emotional. Of course, it being commonwealth had a lot to do with that given where I am from, but I loved the way it was laid out, the flowers brightened it up and the care that was taken here was something else. Also loved seeing other nations represented other than the UK
Alex T — Google review
Emotional and poignant experience for all my family (we have several WW2 veterans in our close family). I was most struck by the young age of many of the fallen, many the same age as my daughter who was by my side as we walked down the well flowered aisles. A far more touching and accessible tribute than the American Cemetery.
Simon B — Google review
My visit to this cemetery in June 2024 during the 80 year remembrance of the D-Day Invasion of Normandy was a chilling and humbling experience. So many lives were shed and paid to bring about peace in the World. May we never have to go through a war like this again. And yet, at this moment the Ukraine is involved in a dragged out war with Russia. And already thousands of children, women & men were killed in Gaza in the war with Israel 😭😭😭 “From Wikipedia …The Bayeux War Cemetery is the largest Second World War cemetery of Commonwealth soldiers in France, located in Bayeux, Normandy.[1] The cemetery contains 4,648 burials, mostly from the Invasion of Normandy. Opposite this cemetery stands the Bayeux Memorial which commemorates more than 1,800 casualties of the Commonwealth forces who died in Normandy and have no known grave.[1][2]” wikipedia
Marietjie W — Google review
A very moving but a beautiful & peaceful last resting place for those who lost their lives in the Battle for Normandy. I was in tears in front of my teenage son with the enormity of the loss of life and I find it hard for those buried whose name is not known. As I was walking through the cemetery, I noticed a grave with a distinctive surname which is in my family. Without initially realising it, I had discovered the grave of a previously unknown third cousin and it was afterwards when I researched F A Deeming that I realised that Frederick Alfred Deeming was a relation - He has now been added to my family tree so he will continue to be remembered. Free to visit.
Elizabeth B — Google review
Given that this and other sites are dedicated to those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that I and others can enjoy our lives. As I walk around, I stand in silence. I hope that they believe the sacrifice was not in vain. Given the young age of the soldiers, I know that I have led a full and happy life, all thanks to those who fought so that I did not have to. In sorrow, I look at those graves of the unknown soldiers with a lot of sadness that they are lost and known only to God.
Luke K — Google review
Absolutely sobering experience. Almost 5000 graves of young people who died here in 1945, during the D Day landings and the push for the liberation of Europe. Immaculately kept by the war graves comission. Do consider donating.

The Museum of the Battle of Normandy is a comprehensive history museum that tells the story of D-Day from both the Allied and German perspectives. It features an excellent film about the landing, as well as exhibits on military equipment and artifacts from the campaign.
Awesome place for anyone into WW2 history. There's so much to take in — exhibits, stories, and artifacts that really bring the past to life. It's well laid out and super informative without feeling overwhelming. Just make sure to go early if you can — it gets crowded fast with tourists and school groups, and it’s way nicer to explore when it’s quieter.
Amit Y — Google review
Small but superb museum. Far away from the crowds with many interesting items both from germans and the allies. You can see rifles, pistols, uniforms, military viechles, bombs and watch a movie about WW2 in a movie vie hall. The most interesting thing for me was the small diorama that was built there. So if you are visiting Bayeux this museum is a must see.
Anton S — Google review
If you want to know and focus on the D-Day invasion and then liberation of Normandy, this is a good museum for the chronological and factual accounting of both sides. Available in French and English, there is a good deal of written material to accompany some artifacts from small to large set pieces. A few are outside in the parking lot area. Free parking. EV charging station.
Cory S — Google review
Wow, this place is amazing and haunting at the same time, unbelievable what these men did for our country. The place was immaculately looked after, so pristine. There is so much love from the French to the British all around this area. Makes me proud.
Perry L — Google review
Very informative museum with loads of interesting displays just allow enough time to get round all the displays. The CWWG Commission Cemetery is very close by and within walking distance. Plenty of parking on site.

Very well-organized museum with detailed exhibits and original World War II artifacts. It clearly explains the context of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. An emotional and must-see visit if you're in the area.

If you like military history, this is a fabulous museum. It focuses on the landings in Normandy and stops at Falaise pocket. The uk occupied Bayeux so there is a strong Uk element to the story. The story and pictures are moving. The hardware interesting. The signs are detailed and you should allow 2 hrs if you like to read and study the info. The shop on exit is good.

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Bayeux is a towering Norman Gothic religious edifice that offers guided tours, including visits to the treasure room and chapter house. The cathedral's courtyard features the famous 'tree of liberation,' illuminated in vibrant colors each night, reminiscent of Niagara Falls. Every other night, a captivating light, sound, and music show is projected onto the tree, showcasing symbols of war and historical events like D-Day.
The first time your eyes see this cathedral, your visual sense will pop. It is such a massive structure in the heart of the City of Bayeux. The stone artisans that constructed this in the 11th century would be proud that their efforts have stood the test of time. I wish I could have ascended the towers. I am sure the views over Bayeux would be unrivaled. See my pictures for interior photos of the Gothic interior.
Bob W — Google review
Magnificent cathedral both inside and out. Has impressive stained glass windows and interesting crypt. My favourite installation is a board running round the outer part of the crypt (mimicking the Bayeux Tapestry) but simply recording history in plain words from Jesus to present day listing significant events, eras and every single Pope with the length of their term ..fascinating
John D — Google review
Wonderful cathedral that’s worth a visit. You may even be lucky enough to hear the amazing pipe organ!! During the summer there’s a wonderful and dazzling light show, inspired by the lush, colourful world of Alain Thomas — a master of naïve-primitive painting. Well worth seeing. Selected nights from dusk to midnight.
Stephen M — Google review
This ancient church is so amazing. Bayeux is an amazing town and this church at its centerpiece was a marvelous surprise. There was a seasonal night market I found and shopped for some lovely trinkets and delicious local sausages. Then at around 10pm there was amazing light show on the surface of the church. Just an amazing place. I think my next trip to France will be strictly a stay in beautiful Bayeux.
Isaiah M — Google review
Huge and amazing! Startling and so thankful that this beautiful 13th century architectural marvel survived all the Normandy battles of world war II. Free to enter. No good parking close by except on the street if you are lucky.

This is a beautiful cathedral located in the heart of charming Bayeux, France. Looks stunning on the outside, especially with the background being the countryside small town of Bayeux. You can enter the cathedral for free and tour the inside in under 1 hour. The inside architecture is stunning and beautiful!

Beautiful cathedral with amazing history. From the stained glass above to the floor below, the ancient art and craftsmanship on display is stunning. Make sure to see the free light show projected on the exterior evenings during the summer months.

A cathedral that befits the beautiful city of Bayeux. Great to visit at any time but the evening market and light show done every other day through August is well worth experiencing.

Located in Bayeux, the Baron Gerard Museum of Art and History is a must-visit attraction near the famous Bayeux Tapestry Museum. Established in 1874, this museum offers a unique blend of art and historical artifacts spanning from prehistoric times to the twentieth century. Visitors can explore a diverse collection that includes medieval tapestries, providing insight into the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Very interesting local museum. Visited as part of a combined ticket deal with two other museums including the Bayeux tapestry one. Interesting mix of art and history through the ages, with some unique displays. Good shop.
Elizabeth B — Google review
It represents the story of Bayeux from the beginning to nowadays. Re-innovated building, stylish synergy of old and contemporary. The collection of art is banal. However, the part of the local hand-made cobwebs is impressive. It's even possible to watch the process. People working there are really welcoming and smiling.
Oksana S — Google review
This is an outstanding museum that anyone interested in history will love. It is well organised chronologically and feels spacious. The highlights for me were the lace making, and the ceramics but there are some lovely paintings too.
Emma N — Google review
Visited on a heritage weekend so was free to enter. This museum is a fantastic walk through the history of the region with one big draw back that many have pointed out in their reviews. The curation is terrible, in small black font and seemingly done from Google translate to English. With poor lighting in parts it's pretty much impossible to make out. Something is better than nothing, but it could be oh so much better. Its a great exhibit, great building, and one big letdown
Kevin M — Google review
Right in the centre of Bayeux, one street away from the tapestry museum, this museum has several sections from Roman antiquities, local history, and eighteenth-century paintings to a display of lace design, techniques and production. I was also impressed by a full courtroom and consultation backroom for the judges, as left behind by history. Nice museum shop.
John S — Google review
Wonderful museum. The conversion of the palace has been done with great care and imagination. The old courtroom is fantastic and the exhibition of lace works is stunning.
Alison D — Google review
Great little museum. Not too overwhelming. Logically and chronologically laid out in a beautiful building which adds to the experience. Lots of information in English and French. Good value if you get a combined museum ticket with the Bayeux Tapestry.
Cat J — Google review
I had a wonderful time in this museum. The display of the art works and artifacts is very well done and integrated perfectly with the building. The collection is marvellous. I would definitely recommend it.

The Conservatoire de la Dentelle de Bayeux is a place where the art of lacemaking, particularly Bobbin lace, is preserved and celebrated. It has its roots in the 17th century when two nuns from Rouen shared their knowledge with the nuns of Bayeux. The conservatory not only showcases historical pieces but also offers private courses for those interested in learning this traditional craft.

Inside, a young woman at work shows how lace is created, another lady explains in good English the history of this purely voluntary "conservatory" of Bayeux lace. Obviously the prices displayed for the small masterpieces are justified by the hours of work involved. Also on display are some great masterpieces that required a couple of thousand hours. Possible individual mini courses at a cost of 10 euros per hour.

Nestled in the enchanting medieval town of Bayeux, Hôtel Tardif Noble Guesthouse is a charming retreat that beautifully marries history with modern comfort. This elegant establishment, dating back to the 18th century, was once a mansion set within a lush park originally owned by botanist Moisson de Vaux. Guests can wander through its serene gardens and perhaps catch sight of ancient plant species that have thrived for centuries.
Our family of 4 (2 adults, a teen & a tween) stayed in the Family Apartment. The hotel is unassuming from the street; you enter into a beautiful historic courtyard. Reception / staff are friendly and accommodating (as was the friendly cat-- a hit with the kids). Breakfast was lovely as was the hostess (and oh-- the cappuccino!) . Our room was clean and well appointed with a very functional kitchen. It's within walking distance to the cathedral, Bayeux Tapestry and really lovely streets with shops / restaurants. We all agreed that Hotel Tardif exceeded our expectations and we would be thrilled to stay again. Thank you so much to the staff; you truly are phenomenal.

One of the top 5 hotels I have visited. Definitely the best of this trip to France. I was expecting just another European tourist hotel with a great website. It’s better than it looks in the pics. The perfect little garden to relax in. The perfect rooms, each with their own personality. Exceptionally clean. The location in Bayeux can’t be beat. Finally, the staff was amazing the entire time, all the way down to Leah the cat who kept us company in the garden.

We stayed here at the end of August 2025 for one night. Perfectly located in Bayeux, this hotel was wonderful. It's a beautiful building, with a lovely garden and pool. Our room was very comfortable, with luxe linens and a really nice mattress. The staff was amazing! We had an issue with our rental car. We had to leave it overnight in another city and take the train to Bayeux. The staff had a taxi meet us at the train station. The next day, the owner made several phone calls to the rental company to try to help us resolve the issue. Our broken, inadequate French would have made it impossible if we tried to do that ourselves. Breakfast in the morning was delicious!! Why, oh why, did we only stay here one night?? We will be back.
Dave S — Google review
We stayed here two nights in June as part of our Normandy trip that started in Honfleur and ended in St. Malo with a train to Paris. Bayeux is a wonderful town with much to offer and a great location to explore the nearby WWII sites. The hotel's location is perfect and close to everything you could possibly need and/or want to see. We were warmly greeted and were given an explanation of the property and how everything runs. Our room was cozy and wonderful with access to the outdoor seating area which we enjoyed sitting at before dinner. We did have issues with the towel warmer not working and the bathtub drain not staying down. However, I did not inform the hotel of these issues, so part of that is my fault. They cannot fix what they do not know about. There were also artificial fragrance pods (for lack of a better term) in both the toilet area and bathroom. I personally do not enjoy these and wished they were not present as they are not good for one's health. We enjoyed walking the emacculate grounds and the beautiful flowers and trees. We wish we would have had time to try the heated pool, but we were gone too long during the day touring. Breakfast was lovely and delicious though the croissants were just okay. I also really enjoyed the warm food options - who would have thought I would love green beans for breakfast! They were delicious. There is also a resident cat who we much enjoyed the company of. One suggestion that would really enhance this property (which is hard to do as it's so wonderful to begin with) - there is no available aperitif offered. Having an option of even just a red and white wine available to enjoy by the pool, the outdoor seating, or the indoor salon (if cold/rainy) would be perfect. While this would add a bit of extra work for the desk staff, it would be an exceptional addition and is really the only complaint I could give you. We found ourselves down the road the first night at a local bar for an Aperol spritz before dinner. The next night, we purchased a half bottle of rosé nearby and the hotel graciously provided us with a bucket of ice for it. We enjoyed it on the patio seating outside our room. We would have preferred to spend our money at the hotel rather than elsewhere but we made do the first evening and figured out a way to stay and enjoy the property the next evening. Thank you for such a lovely stay. We hope to return one day when our travels bring us back to the area. Merci!

I can’t speak more highly about this hotel. It’s in the perfect location, close to everything. The staff are all amazing (especially the owner who couldn’t be any nicer). Our included breakfast was yummy and super fresh. The grounds are beautiful and the history of the hotel makes you feel like you’re in someone’s fabulous guest villa. We got upgraded to a suite and it was very spacious. We needed help with our train tickets, directions, some mailing things - and they were very patient and kind to handle all of these. Stay there - you wonder regret it!

I’m not sure any of my photos capture what a delightful hotel this is! Bayeaux is a charming town and Hotel Tardif made our stay perfect. The gardens are magical, the service was excellent, the breakfasts were wonderful, and the cleanliness was impeccable. We spend our evenings in the yard listening the birds and chatting. Any time I feel stressed, I will close my eyes and picture myself back in that lovely yard. What a place. ❤️

Guillaume Marie stands out as an exceptional guide for private tours, offering in-depth knowledge and personal insights due to his upbringing in the region. His connections with veterans and military background ensure a top-quality experience.
A native of Normandy whose grandmother lived through both German and US occupation, Guillaume was a truly amazing tour guide! He took us to so many great places and had such wonderful stories to bring the experience to life at each place we visited. His English is excellent and he was prompt, courteous and entertaining every step of the way. I cannot recommend him and his company highly enough…thank you, Guillaume for an amazing day!

Guillaume was a fantastic guide to the D-Day beaches. He was very knowledgeable and engaging for our whole family group of 10, tailored the tour to our interests, and spoke impeccable English. His in-depth knowledge allowed us to cover far more in our one day with him than would have been possible on our own. He provided a fantastic foundation for our further explorations on our own. I highly recommend his tour!

Engaging Guillaume was the best decision we made during our 3 generation tour of Europe. His expertise, warmth and efficiency added spectacularly to our trip. When asked what the highlight of the trip was, our kids and grandkids were unanimous in saying "The stories that Guillaume told at the beaches and the cemetery." I can't recommend him highly enough.

My husband, who served in the 82nd Airborne, had such a powerful and special experience in Normandy. Our guide, Raphaelle, was incredible—she’s not only knowledgeable but also has a real gift for connecting history to the people who lived it. She understood how important this trip was for my husband and made it unforgettable for him. We also had so much fun on a Jeep tour with Flavie, who showed us some amazing places we wouldn’t have found ourselves. If you’re planning a trip to Normandy, I can’t recommend this experience enough—it’s meaningful, personal, and something you’ll remember forever.

Guillaume (William) Was an exceptional guide! His military background and knowledge of WWII, French history and the region also were beyond most tour guides. He has a passion for the study of D Day and Normandy.
Ellen R — Google review
Amazing experience! Guillaume has such an incredible knowledge of DDay history. So many stories and information he shared that we would not have been able to find on our own or with a larger group tour. This is well worth it and I would highly recommend.

My husband and I spent an amazing day with Guillaume visiting the American historic sites. Guillaume’s knowledge, passion and ability to relay events is unsurpassed. Thank you Guillaume, your ability to bring historic events to life made our trip to Normandy.

My husband and I toured Normandy and the beaches, cemetery, etc. with Guillaume and it was the highlight of our trip to France. We spent the entire day on the tour but could have done it for tow more days. He is so knowledgeable, with wonderful insight and personal stories which made it a very moving experience. We want to take our family back and do it again.

Longues-sur-Mer Battery is a well-preserved World War II site, originally constructed by the Germans to defend France from potential sea invasions. Situated between Omaha and Gold Beach, this battery features four 152mm naval guns housed in concrete casemates. The fire control post, which played a role in the film 'The Longest Day,' oversaw the battery's firing activities.
Well worth the visit. The battery is very impressive and well maintained. If you are doing a Normandy visit and want to go to old WW2 sites this is one to not forget!
Johannes — Google review
Very interesting place if person is interested in a WW2 history. There are several bunkers with cannons that can shoot 20 km up in the sea. One of the bunkers is preserved as how it was blown. There were whole round path visiting several different kind of bunkers but it was so windy and cold even in August that we couldn't visit all of them. There is no tickets, no queues, so just go and see some WW2 history to remember the great horrors.
Anton S — Google review
Very interesting. 4 gun placements with 3 guns still intact. Great all round views, perfect position, but quite windy today so it was cold. Information centre was closed between 1 and 2 but the toilets were open.
Mae H — Google review
This review encompasses the various 5 installations at this wonderful site. Free admission as coastal entrance, the defence pods and guns are awesome and a testament to the strength of German engineering. A truly wonderful walk around, we also walked to Cap Manvieux along the headland and could see the remnants of the floating mulberry harbour at Arromanches-les-Bains. Easy parking, toilets and space visitor centre, dog friendly 🙂
Chris E — Google review
We visited on a very windy day and got to experience typical northern European weather just like the gun crews would have done back in the 40's. Great place to visit as its free to look and go around the main attractions.
Ben S — Google review
They appear quite sudden in the middle of a field, the bunkers of Longues-sur-Mer. You can see there’s been have fighting in the area. Some of the original 150mm guns are still there. You can go into the bunkers to have a look. A visit lasts about an hour. There is a visitor center but you don’t have to use that
Arnoud K — Google review
This is the best preserved and most accessible gun battery in the day landing areas. See this, and it'll help get the feeling of others along these beaches which are barriered off

100% worth a visit, amazing to see what happened here. Well looked after and I couldn't believe how well preserved the guns are. Get there and have a look.

Dogs are not allowed in the park. Ignore all online info that says they are. We were led to believe dogs could enter by multiple websites that feature info about the park. But the signs at the gate say no dogs at all. So we wasted a trip there and had to go back home. :(

Just a stone's throw away from iconic attractions like the Bayeux Tapestry Museum and the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy, visitors can easily immerse themselves in local culture. I felt Taxis are scammers!Taking advantages of having no competition! I’m so disappointed with everything in Bayeux, my whole experience made me hate Bayeux and the areas. 1) my esim (data) reception stopped working as soon as I stepped in Bayeux from train station 2) only 1 bus per day to Omaha beach (only in the afternoon, that didn’t work for me) 3) my 2nd option, I tried to book Uber(which I did internet research, said it works in Bayeux, turns out it didn’t work, no driver is accepting my request) 4) the staff lady said I could book taxi only by call, I didn’t have France number, she said she could book taxi for me but I had to pay 2€. She called with landline for few seconds, and gave me a piece of paper for the service, and I paid 2€ for that! And she said I can wait outside, would be there in 5 mins. ( she didn’t tell me the price and I didn’t ask either as I expected 30-38€ as Uber prices show as such). I felt no compassion nor empathy nor the slightest care how much I have to pay as a solo traveler from the staff. No explanation about fare OR a sedan unavailability if it’s relating with the price or whatsoever. 5) a black minivan with no taxi sign arrived, and I thought why it’s so big just for me! And to my surprise, he said it’s 45€. (I accepted reluctantly as I was already there after taking train from another place) he gave me a business card ‘Bayeux Taxis’ if I needed a ride again on the way back, told me to call him 30 mins advance and would pick me up with same price. And when I texted the number from WhatsApp, someone else replied and said 75€!! 45€ was already expensive and I was so shocked! He later said 65€ final price, when I told him what the other guy told me, he said “yes, that’s his price, my price is 65€, not less”, and when I asked about the first guy and his number, he said he is busy, he gave me another number, turned out it’s still not the first guy, this 3rd guy said 70€, and final 65€. The trip didn’t even last 30 minutes and 65€ was ridiculous. And how come the prices are different from one person to another if it’s an official taxi agency accepted by Bayeux tourist office? I’m so confused and disappointed, I felt like I was in a flea market. My advice: If you wanna visit D-day beaches, book tours well in advance OR rent a car.

The Bayeux Memorial is a new museum that showcases various aspects of Bayeux, including prehistoric remains, 19th-century porcelain, paintings, sculptures, and lace. Housed in a restored chapel and a former courthouse, the museum offers a diverse collection of historical artifacts. Additionally, the Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum provides an extensive display of military operations and equipment used during the period from June 7 to August 19, 1944.
The name we came to see was found easily by our pervious research & confirmed in the memorial book. What a beautiful place for all of these hero's to be laid to rest. Very well maintained area & so peaceful.

A place to contemplate the bravery and sacrifices made in 1944 Bayeux War Cemetery is the largest Commonwealth cemetery of the Second World War in France and contains burials brought in from the surrounding districts and from hospitals that were located nearby. BAYEUX WAR CEMETERY, which was completed in 1952, contains 4,144 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, 338 of them unidentified. There are also over 500 war graves of other nationalities, the majority German. The BAYEUX MEMORIAL stands opposite the cemetery and bears the names of more than 1,800 men of the Commonwealth land forces who died in the early stages of the campaign and have no known grave. They died during the landings in Normandy, during the intense fighting in Normandy itself, and during the advance to the River Seine in August.

Another memorial site we visited, this one being one of the main commonwealth memorial. There are many British servicemen buried here and all of the graves are immaculately kept by the war commission. This site brings the message home, you can't put this place into words, you just have to visit. Very poignant place which many people visit. The parking near by is free and you can spend a good hour, even a coupe like we did to take this place in. Just go and you will understand what I'm trying to say about this place, please do!

The Saint-Patrice Church of Bayeux has a rich history dating back to the 5th century, with its current structure established in 1754. Legend has it that the church was once home to Saint Patrice, known for his generosity towards the poor. The church features a Renaissance-style bell tower built in 1548 and is renowned for its excellent acoustics, making it a popular choice for classical music enthusiasts and choral performances.
Beautiful church with the most welcoming parish. We are a Catholic family who came to see the area and attended mass here. Many went out of their way to introduce themselves and welcome us to the area. Gorgeous architecture with amazing history. It is cold in there though so dress very warmly!

We took a school group here (13 and 14 year olds) and the guide kindly recounted the history of chocolate in simple French with actions and some English translations so that they could improve their language skills. Very professional and interesting. You get a chance to buy presents from the shop, which sells their own premium chocolate, which ranges from chocolate lollipops for a couple of euros to very expensive boxes. Recommended.

While the website seemed pretty promising, the overall tour was very disappointing. In the beginning, we got dropped in some room with a video playing that looked a couple hundred years old. It was very boring and played for more then half an hour, the majority if the tour. The rest consisted of long texts about the history of chocolate and badly dressed plastic dolls. The service was awesome and everyone was very sweet though, the price of the chocolate is very reasonable and we even got a few free chocolates! It's fun for a class trip, not a vacation. They're very sanitary and touch everything with gloves, and everyone is very passionate about their job. There is a fun interactive game about smelling, some more interactives around the tour would make it a lot more interesting. I liked going, but i wouldn't recommend it.

We visited the Abbey late June of 2024. It was a surreal experience. The Abbey is alive with flowers, raspberries and trees. We wandered the grounds and stopped to read all the plaques to our lost soldiers. Very well presented. We looked through the windows of the abbey itself and saw research students busy working. A little disappointed that we could not go inside the Abbey itself but nevertheless it was an experience we will not forgot. On our way out we stopped at their cafe for a treat.

A peaceful and poignant experience (as long as there aren't too many visitors at the same time. Drive past the abbey on the Rue d'Ardennes, look for the three black noticeboards on the wall by the pedestrian gate - that's the entrance to the garden. It's not in the abbey itself. Twenty metres further on is the large car park. Park up and walk back.

Jason B — Google review
A mournful and somber visit. We will remember them.
Gerard B — Google review
Having returned to this memorial I have to say I am disappointed. The recent works are a great disappointment. To say the quality of the work is third rate is a huge understatement, it's appalling. It is disrespectful to the men who died and this needs to be addressed immediately as a simple matter of respect to those who died, the regiments they belong to and their families.
Michael G — Google review
A very beautiful resting place for those who lost their lives. The church has incredible history going back to the 12th century, would definitely recommend this place!

Difficult to find but worthwhile. Went in late October and weather cold. The lane up which the location lies was in regular use by tractors and agricultural vehicles getting the harvest in. Peaceful location slightly marred by encroachment by a rather ugly housing estate. The Abbey itself did not seem to be open (at any rate, coming here as part of a group, we did not go in) but we saw the external memorials and visited the garden of remembrance to side of the building. The memorials don't agree on the number of Canadian POWs shot here by the "Hitler Jugend" SS regiment, but the total was 27 in the course of a few days. A little piece of the brutality of the Eastern Front brought to the West by fanatical, brain washed Nazis just out of childhood. Their commander was court martial led, found guilty, sentenced to death but the sentence was not inflicted, and he was released in 1954. A note of warning: if you are driving a minibus/can the road gets narrow and the parking provision is off road. However, when we went there, there was a height limit on the entrance so we had to turn vehicles around, which was a dicey prospect because of large boulders strategically placed by road, presumably to stop encroachment.

Awful history but a must see if you are touring the area.

City park
Parc de la Vallée de l'Aure, located behind the train station, has been designated as a departmental Sensitive Natural Area for its wetlands and diverse wildlife. This 13-hectare ecological gem near the city center offers restored areas for public enjoyment, complete with footbridges and pontoons along the river. It's a serene spot where visitors can appreciate nature's beauty in every season while respecting the tranquility of the surroundings.
Tranquility and calming. Even though so close to town, once you enter the park it feels as if you’ve left civilization behind. Treat yourself and go.

Hidden gem in Bayeaux just off the beaten track. Surprisingly pleasant nature park with an easy circuit starting just off the main road. Very peaceful, trails around the park are super easy to follow and quite a variety of birdlife. Was lucky enough to spot Kingfishers, spotted flycatchers and chiffchaffs amongst others.

(Translated by Google) Near Bayeux, very pleasant for walking and running. All of nature is there to give us the gift of its beauty. In any season, enjoy the calm, the fauna and the flora. Small footbridges so as not to disturb nature are a good idea. I advise you to take walking shoes in order to take the small paths and better enjoy this setting. If you like watching rabbits and hearing frogs croaking, you will be delighted. Leave your dog on a leash so as not to disturb this calm. I highly recommend.

I had an enjoyable moment visiting this lovely garden in the old town of Bayeux. There are various types of flowers and plants with benches. I was truly inspired by the beautiful messages on wall:- May this spot be in the image of you: A place of remembrance where young people can meet, a place where the passer-by can rest, a place where one can spend a moment listening to nature. And for all, a moment of peace and serenity where we may sometimes even hear your laugh, “bursting with joy”, telling us that in spite of everything, Life goes on …

The Monastère Sainte Trinité - Hôtellerie is a charming destination to visit, where the Benedictine nuns warmly welcome guests with smiles and open arms. Situated in a serene atmosphere, this 200-year-old monastery offers an ideal place for relaxation and rejuvenation. Guests are invited to savor delicious meals prepared onsite while supporting the maintenance of the historic buildings.
I called in today to enquire as to whether this was where i stayed back in 1974 on a school trip from Western Junior School, Grimsby, England. My husband and I were shown around by one of the wonderful sisters, (English speaking), a truly lovely experience which evoked great memories of my time in Bayeux.......thankyou so much for your kindness.
