Palazzo dei Consoli is a medieval palace located in the heart of Gubbio, Italy. It stands as a symbol of the town with its elegant facade and dominating position. The palace houses the Civic Museum, which features an enduring collection of local artifacts dating from prehistoric times to the 1900s.
This is , belive it or not, the town i grew up in which makes this my homwtown. The " Palazzo dei Consoli" was one of the most advanced buildings for its time, it had running water and a fountain on the 3rd floor! If you look closely along the stairways, there are little cones and peep holes that were used to communicate throughout the palace, (intercom). This is also where "La corsa dei Ceri" starts (15th May). You can tell this city was respected by the Roman's by the fact that they built an amphitheater at the feet of Monte Ubaldo, as opposed to burning the whole town down!

Definitely worth a visit tho the painting gallery is hit and miss. The tablets are one of the main reasons for visiting, also helping to understand the ancient history of the region. Some of the frescoes help make this worth your time. Shame the panorama terrace is mainly blocked for safety. Overall, worth the time and money.

One of the most beautifull civic building in Italy build in 1330. The administration of town was in it. Inside is museum, but didn't go in. Bought to much chocolate in Perugia...so...happy wife, happy life.😂😭😂😭 There is also a nice view of Gubbio from the square in front of it.

A rare example of authentic medieval architecture. It's definitely a MUST SEE altogether, with many other precious jewels of Gubbio, "La città di pietra"

Great place to visit. See all the history of Gibbio and Umbria. During my visit on Sunday it was were not many people. Most of the cards are in English and Italian. For some there is only Italian. There is a possibility to get a ticket for tree musea in which this one is included. Even for the top view i would recommend to go into this museum.

The Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo in Gubbio is a medieval Roman Catholic basilica that houses the body of Saint Ubaldo. It is located in the upper part of the city, near the Cathedral of Gubbio and the Ducal Palace. Visitors can take a two-seater cableway from the center of Gubbio to reach the summit of Mount Ingino where the basilica is situated.
It’s a great (short) drive to get up here. Encourage you to if you have transport and near by the area. The church is quite small and not impressive from the inside but there are a few relics there worth noting, and there is a restaurant there which is recommended on a day that is not too windy. Enjoy some drone photos!

Hidden gem. Gubbio is a very welcoming place absolutely one of my favourites spots we were there for the rise of the Chero it was fantastic, the energy and vibe of the place is amazing.
Carlos R — Google review
Being somewhat isolated the basilica has the ambiance of a retreat or something, unusually with a pleasant courtyard fronting the basilica itself. It was all very peaceful until in true Italian style they display the corpse of Saint Ubaldo in a glass coffin. This time proudly on top of the altar. Not my cup of tea. If this might upset you then perhaps a visit to the nearby cafe is in order.

Interestinf church, on top of the hill ovelooking Gubbio. The lady at the bookshop was highly competent in the history of the saint and told us every detail we couldn't learn from a regulat guide book. We had great fun getting there with a 12 minute journey via cable car. Spectacular view!
Ornella B — Google review
Once in my life I'll take the funicolare to reach the hill. Need of some works to refurbish the terrace and so the restaurant there. Sight is magnificent so a place to rest should be open.

Situated right at the top of Gubbio, its this magnificent church. You see all the city and at the center of the church lies the body of St Ubaldo. Is really beautiful to live or visit this place.

Patron of Gubbio. Sweeping views from this majestic church overlooking the town of Gubbio. Reach by car or cable car. Mass is reverent and the people friendly. A nice cafe to enjoy a beverage after mass

It is one of the main monuments in Gubbio, along with the Gothic cathedral and other churches from the 13th century. The palace hosts various events, including concerts featuring talented musicians and serves as a venue for No Borders Masterclass performances.

Funivia Colle Eletto is a small cableway that takes you part of the way up Monte Ingino, offering stunning views of the valley and Gubbio. The 2-person cages provide a fun ride to Basilica di Sant'Ubaldo, where you can explore marked trails leading to a ruined fort and enjoy vast Apennine views. Visitors praise the smooth ride and beautiful scenery, with facilities such as a gift shop, bar, restaurants, and hotel at the top.
This cable car will take you in a small basket for two people standing in about five minutes to the top of the mountain (850 m above sea level) Very nice experience. Beautiful view from the top. There is a bar and a restaurant, a basilica.

Rocca Maggiore del Monte Ingino is a wonderful panoramic point offering stunning views of the city of Gubbio and its beautiful surrounding landscape. It is located near the Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo, and a short path leads to the ancient fortress, which provides a wide 360-degree panorama. Visitors can take a cable car and then follow a dirt path for about 10 minutes to reach the fortress.
If you want to go for a stunning Spring walk, Monte Ingino is the place to be. During May you can enjoy the view of countless flowers (wild orchids especially) and if you are attentive also incredibly fauna. It is one of my favourite place in Umbria!

The Cattedrale dei Santi Mariano e Giacomo, also known as the Cathedral of Saints Mariano and Giacomo, is a stunning architectural gem located in the heart of Gubbio. This imposing structure, originally built over a 13th-century Romanesque church, features a simple yet striking red-brick exterior. However, the interior tells a different story with its mainly Gothic-style design characterized by a single cross-shaped nave supported by 10 arches.
Peaceful sober cathedral just above Gubbio and reachable by elevator (free) from the main street. Beautiful artwork and interesting descriptions (in italian). A restorative stop during a sightseeing day.

(Translated by Google) Immersing yourself in the heart of Gubbio Cathedral means opening your soul and peering through the gloom, filtering the little light that allows you to admire the sacred through the architectural structure and the pictorial decorations of the hall. If you're rewarded for the little aesthetic sensation afforded by the paintings on the church walls, you can certainly forgo them and dedicate yourself to prayer and spiritual contemplation that enrich the soul. Of course, the vision of the Conversion of Saint Paul, or the Kiss of Judas, or the Resurrection of Jesus by Virginio Nucci, cannot leave you indifferent. Just as it's difficult not to be moved by the glory of Presutti's Magdalene, or Dono Doni's Pietà, or Benedetto Nucci's Saint Ubaldo, or Allegrini's frescoes. Capturing the distinctive trait of each pictorial sign is complicated; the feeling of beauty that pervades the entirety of the sacred place comes to the fore, as when one stands before the fourteenth-century crucifix or the Madonna of Loreto and the Blessed Sacrament.

Palazzo Pretorio is situated in the midst of the city's public palaces, flanked by Palazzo dei Consoli and Palazzo Ranghiasci Brancaleoni. This historic building stands opposite Palazzo dei Consoli, showcasing a striking Gothic style. The square where these palaces are located offers a captivating glimpse into the architectural heritage of the region.
(Translated by Google) Overlooking Piazza Grande in Gubbio, on the opposite side to its twin Palazzo dei Consoli, stands the Palazzo del Podestà (or Pretorio) which was to be an integral part of the ambitious municipal project begun in the city in the 14th century. The building, built to a design by Andrea da Orvieto with the intervention of Gattapone, had to comply with the architectural rules of the "golden rectangle", exactly like the Palazzo dei Consoli. In fact, it is made up of overlapping floors, occupied by two perfectly equal rectangular classrooms. Particularly unique is the presence of a single central octagonal pillar, which opens like a lily to support the floors, yet another example of the admirable architectural engineering of Gubbio. The works, which began in 1349, were unfortunately never completed, as can be seen from some ashlars protruding on the side facing the Palazzo dei Consoli, which must certainly have constituted the connections for the continuation of the architectural body.

Chiesa di San Francesco is a remarkable gothic church located in Gubbio, known for its original frescos including the 15th century series depicting the Madonna by Ottaviano Nelli, a renowned artist from Gubbio. This 13th century church was constructed on the former residence of the Spadalonga family, where St. Francis sought refuge and meditated in what is now a chapel within the church.

The Church of S. Francesco della Pace belongs to the Guild of Masons, Stonecutters and Congener Arts. This little temple represents an essential stage in the Festa dei Ceri ritualities ( here the election of the Captains takes place and the statuettes of saint Ubaldo, Giorgio and Antonio, placed on the top of the Ceri , are kept). The church was built on the cave where, according to tradition, the tamed wolf lived and it took its name ( S. Francis of Peace) when in 1584 the stone on which St. Francis prayed after the pact of peace with the wolf was taken here and became the altar stone. In the crypt it is possible to see a sarcophagus which, according to tradition, is from the tomb of the wolf.

(Translated by Google) The Barrel of the Canons. The monumental "Botte dei Canonici", built before 1500, contained 387 barrels, each of 52 litres, for a total capacity of 20,124 litres. Wine was accumulated from the harvests of Ecdesiastic landholdings. The barrel is a work of engineering and high carpentry: created without iron containment circles, it is held together by a refined system of beams, placed to contain it in a tangential position with respect to the room in which it was built. The people of Gubbio called it “Botte Grande”. Described for the first time in some documents dated 1526, it was filled again in 1908 and 1928 in correspondence with abundant and generous harvests. On the occasion of the feast of San Martino (11 November) in 1978 it returned to its original beauty as a result of extensive restoration (Original) La Botte dei Canonici. I personally didn't understand where the Roman aqueduct was, but perhaps I just didn't know how to look. The only drawback is that it's not a circular route, so you have to walk about 2 km back on the main road. I believe it's SS298 to return to the parking lot. Or you can do the reverse route. Still, it's a nice walk.

(Translated by Google) Fantastic experience, safe route with parapets and flat for 90% of the route, I did it starting from the Bottacione car park which is after the little bridge that goes over the road, heading towards Gubbio, the last 300m stretch a little bumpy and with lush vegetation. An experience worth repeating because you arrive in Gubbio from above and then using the free public lifts and taking a ride on the paid train you can visit the whole city without effort. As often happens, the administration could take better care of him. Adjacent to the Church of S. Francesco, there stands a splendid historical landmark known as Monumento a San Francesco e il Lupo. This magnificent statue portrays the renowned saint alongside the iconic wolf, making it an absolute must-see attraction in Gubbio. Not only is this monument visually captivating, but it also holds great significance in the history of the city. The wolf, being the central figure in its depiction, has become a symbol synonymous with Gubbio itself.

(Translated by Google) The Monumento a San Francesco e il lupo in Gubbio commemorates one of the most famous legends of Saint Francis: the pacification of the dangerous wolf that terrorized the city and its inhabitants. According to legend, Francis managed to tame the animal and integrate it into the human community through his gentleness and faith. The bronze sculpture, which is located not far from the Chiesa di San Francesco, depicts Francis of Assisi calmly offering his hand to the tamed wolf. The scene symbolizes not only compassion and non-violence, but also the connection between humanity and nature, which plays a central role in Franciscan thought. Artistically, the sculpture is simple but expressive. The contrast between the calmness of the human figure and the watchful posture of the wolf is particularly impressive. The monument's placement in the historic setting of Gubbio enhances the impact of the scene and reminds visitors of the region's deep-rooted spirituality. The monument is a worthwhile destination for anyone interested in the history of Francis of Assisi or simply looking for a moment of reflection in the charming old town of Gubbio.

These are quite comfortable and functional, although, having recently opened, the managers still have to fine-tune a few things. For example, if you go in winter, make sure you turn on the heating at least a day before because it takes a while to get up to speed! The 5 stars are however given for the place (well yes, in Italy we have "places" or "places" not "locations" :-) ) and for the availability and kindness of the owners, who did their utmost to resolve all the small inconveniences. For example, they ran to recover an impressive quantity of space heaters! The place itself is really beautiful, you have the feeling of having gone back a thousand years... I often wondered how the monks lived in the Middle Ages. An incredible peace. The restaurant inside the abbey deserves a separate discussion... Truly delicious! We had a big dinner, few guests and top-notch cuisine and service! We also ate there once again, always excellently and at a fair price. (Original) Mistico. Veramente. Splendida abbazia restaurata e divisa in appartamentini. Discorso a parte merita il ristorante interno all'abbazia... Veramente buonissimo!

No sanitation of surfaces, despite the ongoing COVID-19 danger, dishes left dirty and encrusted in the kitchenette. Floors full of dirt and dead insects, attic full of cobwebs many months old (there were even cobwebs between the chairs in the living room). The serious cleaning problems were promptly reported, but the structure did not intervene, we were only given a sanitizer and a dust rag; so on the evening of arrival we had to clean and disinfect until late at night. We were promised that they would apologize with an invitation to dinner in the property's restaurant, but this did not happen because the restaurant is actually always closed and only opens for events (ceremonies, weddings, etc.). Refrigerator not working. TV not working, nor programmable. Lack of outdoor activities (there are only a few deck chairs on the lawn, not enough for all guests). The tranquility of the place was also disturbed, at 6:00 in the morning and at 8:00 in the evening, there was often a lawnmower "running" around the structure. Absence of kitchen linen (tablecloth, tea towel, etc.) and the dishes are not sufficient for the capacity of the apartment's beds. The toiletries are only sufficient for the first 2 days, after which they are not replaced. The wifi signal is almost non-existent, it only works in some areas outside the apartments.

The Church of Saint Francis 'della Pace' in Gubbio is a must-visit, steeped in history and legend. It's dedicated to the tale of St. Francis taming a ferocious wolf, symbolizing the city's heritage. The church also houses the ashes of the wolf and features statuettes representing saints Ubaldo, Giorgio, and Antonio.

Church of San Francesco della Pace The church of San Francesco della Pace belongs to the University of Masons, Stonemasons and Related Arts. This small temple is part of the essential ritual of the Festa dei Ceri (of which the University is the custodian): here the Captains of the Festival are elected and the statuettes of the saints Ubaldo, Giorgio and Antonio are kept and placed on the top of the candles themselves. The church was built over the cave where the she-wolf tamed by St. Francis lived and had the title of St. Francis of Peace when, in 1584, the stone, now an altar table, was transferred there from the Church of the Vittorina, above which St. Francis held a sermon after the taming.  In the crypt the stone that covered the tomb of the she-wolf is preserved.

(Translated by Google) We wandered into this deconsecrated church by chance and admired the beautiful frescoes. The asymmetrical entrance is also interesting. It's definitely worth a visit, especially since it's located in a part of Gubbio where the tourist presence is less noticeable and you can better appreciate the medieval village atmosphere. (Translated by Google) Deconsecrated church but its frescoes are wonderful and above all its masterpiece "Madonna del Belvedere" by Ottaviano Nelli (15th century). MUST VISIT! DESCRIPTION The church is from the 13th century. The façade is Romanesque, in stone where an asymmetrical trefoil portal stands out. The interior has a single nave. The frescoes have been heavily remodeled over the centuries. Today, the aedicule with the work "Madonna del Belvedere" by Ottaviano Nelli (15th century) remains of value. Free admission. Sights & Landmarks
The stunning Colmollaro Castle offers a captivating and enchanting ambiance, rich in historical significance. However, unfortunate neglect has left the castle in a state of abandonment, with even the lack of proper signage making it difficult to locate. Despite this, the castle remains an absolute gem and highly recommended for visitors. The journey to reach the castle is pleasant, allowing for a leisurely walk through scenic surroundings and providing ample opportunity to rest on its beautiful lawn.
(Translated by Google) From the Casanova di Torre hamlet under the municipality of Gubbio, taking the Salcioni road, after about 3 km, there is an old road on the left with a barrier; Going up for just 200m you will arrive at Colmollaro Castle. Located on a small hill surrounded by vegetation, it represents the prototype of defensive-feudal castle and hosted among its walls, for several months, even the great poet Dante Alighieri who wrote some verses of the divine comedy here. Built around the year 1000, it once belonged to Count Bosone Novello Raffaelli, a Ghibelline and close friend of Dante, who offered to host him when he was exiled from Florence. No sign or sign indicating the presence of this splendid castle, apparently abandoned and 7 km away from Gubbio; the name, deriving from "molinaro", however, suggests that there was certainly a water mill nearby.
