San Vicente de Ávila is a landmark Catholic church that showcases Romanesque architecture with Gothic influences, dating back to the 11th century. Situated just outside the city walls of Avila, it stands on the former site of a Roman cemetery. This impressive religious monument took around two centuries to be built and incorporates elements of both Romanesque and Gothic styles.
Definitely worth a vist. In my opinion, it's much better than the main cathedral in the city
David R — Google review
Amazing building! Really magnificent architecture and stunning! Well kept and clean. Was empty when we came by around this area. There are small shops around this church where you can pick up souvenirs
Sujay S — Google review
Incredible church right outside the walls. Close to the tourist information point and one of the entrances of Ávila. The architecture is stunning, and it is kept perfectly. The entrance fee is cheap, and you get to see an amazing church with beautiful art.
Francesco M — Google review
Just a perfect place, one of the most beautiful town I've ever seen, it's a magical place, if you come to Spain (Madrid) it's a most for you, just one hour in car to get there.

Plaza Mercado Chico, also known as Plaza Mayor, is a historic pedestrian plaza located in Avila. The square is surrounded by old buildings with stone arches and features the town hall and a church. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely break at one of the nearby eateries while taking in the charming atmosphere of this walled city. On Fridays, there is a market offering fresh produce and local goods, adding to the vibrant scene.
A definite must on your visit. It's much nicer than the larger Plaza outside the gates
David R — Google review
A historic building dating back to those centuries ago. A beautiful place that is worth a visit.
Sas — Google review
It is the main square in the city and located in the city centre. It is large and popular with tourists. Has nice arches on 3 sides on the ground floor of the 3 storey building. Many shops, restaurants around the area. Easy flat access, no fees.
S V — Google review
Small but with great atmosphere. Noisy with the church bells and during the meals in the restaurants, quiet in the afternoon...
Anna P — Google review
It is surrounded by a city hall, and a church, and arcades within Muralla de Ávila. The current composition dates back to the 19th century.
Seokjin H — Google review
Avila, great place to visit, incredible walled city, very interesting to walk around. You will need a minimum of two hours, longer would be better, to appreciate the place and its history.
Steve W — Google review
Just a typical market square that you would see in any other Spanish city.
J S — Google review
Was a very brief stop off, as needed a quick coffee , rushing to the airport. The square itself is centred in this beautiful walled city and rather large. An early of eateries and not busy. Perfect sun trap to relax with tapas

Cuatro Postes Lookout, also known as Los Cuatro Postes, is a remarkable landmark just a short drive from Ávila. It features a striking cross surrounded by four connected posts and is considered a sacred shrine and popular pilgrimage site. The viewpoint offers the best panoramic view of Ávila, making it an ideal spot to see the city's walls.
Amazing city, wall views and beyond from this high point. Has a 4 pillar monument that was a religious shrine for travellers to and from the Avila. Easy parking to get to high point. Some high steps to negotiate that may be a bit hard on some people. Located near car park, so not much walking. Free, but can be busy at times as it's popular photo stop.
S V — Google review
Came here for the sunset and was blown away by the full view of the historic town! The golden hour here is unreal. Pro tip: Sunset times change a lot by season (winter vs. summer), so verify locally or via weather apps. Bring a camera and a jacket!
Lan W — Google review
This is a great place to get an overview of the walled city of Avila. The four pillars look great against the morning sun. The city looks majestic and the walls able to withstand attack. Just across the road is a petrol station and a hotel. The cafe serves some standard coffee and takeaway food. The toilets are free and clean. The petrol station also has toilets but a key is required.

Make this place your first stop before entering the medieval jewel of Avila. There's a free parking lot right in front. Los Cuatro Postes refers to a small medieval shrine built over an ancient Roman Temple. Today, only the four Doric columns remain, but the main attraction here are fab, unobstructed views of Avila walls. Beside, is the Avila letter sign - fantastic photo op

nice simple place that gives you an amazing view of Avila, but of course, more importantly, a historical meaning to this place of Teresa's youth. Come here to read and find out more.
Pecston G — Google review
A lovely view point to see a large section of Avila's wall. It's a good 2 km walk from the old town. Bus routes 1 and 5 will drop you three fourths of the way from Estacion autobuses. Ona good day, it's a very pleasant walk.
J S — Google review
The viewpoint of Ávila is a must-visit for anyone traveling to this charming city. Located at the top of the medieval walls, this spot offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including the mountains in the distance. It's also a perfect spot to watch the sunset, as the warm colors of the sky illuminate the city below.

The Walls of Ávila are an impressive 2.5 km-long fortification dating back to the 12th century, constructed with granite, sandstone, and brick. They were built around the turn of the 12th century during King Alfonso VI's efforts to reclaim Castilian regions from the Moors. Visitors can access the walls through the Tourist Office in Casa Carnicerias and enjoy a bird's eye view of Ávila.
This city wall is amazing!! There are various sections to walk, each providing unique vantage points. There are at least three entry points for climbing up stairs to walk on the wall. They say to buy tickets at the main Las Carnicerías entrance, but we saw people purchase them just before another entrance (though that may just be a seasonal thing). We parked on the other side of town, and hadn’t checked about entrances. We were just happy to get parking (easier outside the wall, than in the city itself). Next time we will be coordinating parking with wall entrances! They have a great audio guide that is provided with your entrance ticket.
Kat F — Google review
Lovely to visit the Roman fortress surrounding the city. Well preserved. Lots of walking and climbing uneven stairs. Great views. If you go late afternoon, entry fees are waived. Take water, comfy shoes and hat
S V — Google review
An absolute go-to in Ávila! You can't go to Ávila and not visit the Muralla! The walls are in an excellent state, providing incredible views of the outside of the city, but also giving great insights of the main buildings of inside the fortress. It's a pity we can go all around the fortress in one go, and have to go down and up on different points instead. It would be worth revisiting once the renovations are done to see how much we can see in one go. The tickets cost €8 per person, definitely worth every penny!
Aurore A — Google review
The Walls of Ávila, located at C. Conde Don Ramón, 15, in the heart of Ávila, Spain, are a compelling example of medieval fortification and one of the most remarkably preserved city walls in Europe. Constructed primarily between the 11th and 14th centuries, these imposing stone defenses stretch over 2.5 kilometers and encompass the historic center of Ávila. Their architectural style is Romanesque, punctuated by over eighty semi-circular towers and nine monumental gates. The robust construction, using granite and limestone sourced from local quarries, demonstrates military engineering prowess from an era marked by conquests and shifting territorial boundaries. Visitors are immediately struck by the grandeur and scale of the walls, which have become synonymous with the city’s identity. Walking along their perimeter or climbing to the parapets provides panoramic views of Ávila’s old town and the surrounding Castilian plateau. Sections open to the public allow exploration of the walls’ walkways and towers, offering unique vantage points on key landmarks such as the Cathedral of Ávila. The nighttime illumination further accentuates the intricate details and texture of the stonework, giving the monument an almost ethereal presence. Unlike many other European fortifications which succumbed to modernization or conflict, Ávila’s walls remain largely intact, a testament to careful restoration and the city’s commitment to safeguarding its heritage. The monument was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985, underscoring its significance in historical and cultural contexts. The walls not only symbolized military strength but also played an important role in the development of medieval urban life, animating the social, religious, and economic activities of the inhabitants for centuries. Today, the Walls of Ávila serve as a focal point for tourism, educational programs, and cultural events. The surrounding area is lively, with restaurants, cafes, and artisanal shops contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. Interpretive signage and guided tours enhance the visitor experience, providing insight into the site’s historical layers and strategic importance. Seasonal festivals and exhibitions further highlight the enduring legacy of the walls, bridging past and present for locals and travelers alike. Overall, the Walls of Ávila at C. Conde Don Ramón, 15, not only captivate with their monumental architecture but also embody the spirit of resilience and historical continuity. They are a compelling destination for those interested in medieval history, urban archaeology, and Spanish cultural heritage, offering an immersive experience at every turn.

Very well kept. Nice to walk, hilly but good. Good food outside of the walls, inside a little touristy trap but great shopping. Prices are definitely higher than a couple yrs ago and the Euro to dollars gets you.

The Walls of Ávila are an incredible historical landmark and a must-visit attraction. These well-preserved medieval fortifications offer a fascinating glimpse into the city’s past and provide stunning panoramic views of Ávila and its surroundings. Walking along the walls is a unique experience, allowing you to appreciate their impressive scale and architectural detail up close. The entrance points are well-maintained, and informative signage enhances the visit with historical context. The views from the walls, especially at sunset, are breathtaking and offer fantastic photo opportunities. If you’re interested in history, architecture, or just want a memorable stroll with great vistas, the Walls of Ávila are definitely worth exploring. Highly recommended!

The Royal Monastery of Santo Tomás, completed in 1493, served as the summer residence for the Spanish Royal Family. The complex features a grand church with a single nave and ornate vaults, along with several side chapels. Visitors can explore the picturesque grounds on self-guided audio tours and admire the beautiful marble sarcophagus of Infante Don Juan, son of Isabella and Ferdinand II.
It was founded in 1482 as a Gothic-style Dominican monastery in honor of Thomas Aquinas. Prince John of Asturias is buried there. In addition to the worship space, there is also an Oriental Art Museum and a Natural Science Museum. The entrance fee is 4 euros.
Seokjin H — Google review
Brilliant very early monastery with museum of natural history ( odd) and wonderful collection of material from far east.
Michael M — Google review
The experience of the museum was incredible of historical significance however the audio guides were a bit confusing at times. Better signage and closer together with directions would have made following the tour better.
John K — Google review
I was merely drawn to its spire from afar, but unexpectedly discovered that it was a hidden gem—almost no tourists, quiet, beautiful, and incredibly relaxing. The Asian Art Museum is also fantastic.
Y Y — Google review
Although it is a bit far from Ávila’s walled city, this royal monastery is absolutely worth the walk if you are interested in history and architecture. The complex is organized around several magnificent cloisters and includes a church, a former royal palace, a former university and even an oriental art museum showcasing artefacts collected by the Dominican missionaries.
Daniel F — Google review
This was one of the most pleasantly surprising experiences of my travels in Spain. A magnificent monastery with beautiful architecture. It has three cloisters and a beautiful gothic church. They give you an audioguide included with your small entrance fee. The son of Ferdinand and Isabella, who died at just 19 years old, was buried here and there is a stunningly beautiful tomb. Make this stop, the staff are friendly and helpful and it will be a great historical, cultural or spiritual experience!
Aaron O — Google review
It's beautiful and not crowded. You can take your time to explore.

The Church and birthplace of Saint Teresa of Jesus, also known as the Santa Teresa Church, was constructed in the 17th century by the Discalced Carmelite Order. It is believed to have been built on the site where Saint Teresa of Jesus was born. The church also houses the Santa Teresa Museum, offering insights into the life of this saint. Located in Segovia's old town, visitors can immerse themselves in its spiritual atmosphere and enjoy panoramic views from various viewpoints.
Absolutely worth the visit. The place is always open and it is super peacful and tranquil. MUST VISIT: the chapel which denotes the place of birth of Teresa of Jesus herself. Come during the afternoons, when it is less crowded, as people are all having their zzzz....
Pecston G — Google review
Beautiful and ornate churches and ancient buildings. I'm not particularly religious, but the history and context for Spain and Western culture alone is worth understanding. We did a guided tour which significantly added to the information you get compared to a solo experience.

Beautiful architecture. Incredible seeing in a grand city.
Jon L — Google review
Doesn’t matter if you’re not familiar with the story of Santa Teresa de Avila, this is a must see while in Avila. Located in the southern part of town, it includes the beautiful chapel where the Saint was born. This is some of the few places where a hired guide will be convenient to understand the frescos. There’s a museum which is not worthy unless you’re into the Saint’s life. The church is located in a recently renewed plaza, which makes a beautiful setting for pictures. As happens in most churches, dress modestly and don’t be loud, as it is a sacred place.
Pedro A — Google review
If you are not religious, this could be a bit boring. The church building itself is neither beautiful nor architecturally significant in any way but it is a site built on the birth place of Saint Teresa of Jesus. There are other more architecturally interesting churches in Avilá to visit, if you are short on time. We only visited this church and the attached museum (description in Spanish, as is the case with many smaller cities) because we had the Avilá card, which is actually a must buy if you are visiting the Cathedral and walking the walls.
Un V — Google review
A significant landmark where Saint Teresa was born. It's a modest church built on the site. In the gift shop next to the church you can see Teresa's alleged finger and bones of St. John of the Cross. They don't allow photos so you have to see it for yourself!

Puerta del Alcázar is a historical site in Avila that offers stunning views from the top of the wall. It's recommended to start with the short path and then take the longer route to explore other places. The gate has a rich history related to Alfonso VI, which visitors are encouraged to learn about. In addition, there are nearby restaurants like Piedras Albas and La Puerta del Alcazar that offer group menus and delicious meat dishes.
Great view of this historical site. Wear your most comfortable shoes because you will be experiencing a lot of walking in stones. Spanish people just love churching. The Church is St. Theresa is nearby.

Easy to navigate and start our experience on the walls of Avila. The recorded stories on the self guided audio tour did not match up well with what we were seeing. Left us confused and sometimes bored. The views from the wall were the best part. Amazing.

Restaurante Las Murallas is located at the foot of the iconic town walls surrounding the old town of Avila. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, including grilled chicken and beef meals, cochinillo, chips, and tortilla dela patata. It's a great place to dine after exploring the well-preserved ancient walls that date back to medieval times. While it can get busy during holidays, the tasty grilled items make up for any potential delays in service.
She’s touristy but swallow your pride! Look, if you come to Avila and don’t try the local bread soup, did you even go? This cozy spot by the walls is unapologetically traditional, meaning, yes, that is soggy bread in a bowl and yes, it will weirdly grow on you by the third bite. But the Yemas de Santa Teresa (candied egg yolks) are a must try too. They’re little orange orbs of sugar and yolk alchemy. You gotta try the local foods.
Sara G — Google review
The restaurant looks nice and fine! The vibes are good, it is right in front of the walls. Great location as well. But the food was disappointing. Didn't really enjoy any dish that we tried here. I give 3 stars just for the fast service and overall good ambience in the place.
Sujay S — Google review
Tourist trap, avoid!! We came here during a tour and they offered us a drink and a tapa (included with the tour). Then we didn’t have much time so they proposed us the menu for lunch, which was fine and well organized. The thing that bothered me the most is that they started showing us how a typical Cochinillo dish would look like. So we ordered it and the actual one was something like half the amount: smaller piece of meat and much less fries. Of course, it was the only dish out of the menu and with the highest hidden cost of 30€. We tried artichokes as well, they were good but nothing special given the price. Also, they asked us if we wanted some bread, and we ended up paying 1,50€ per piece!!! Bread is commonly free in Spain. Overall very expensive and price was not justified by quality. Also the menu is full of “typical dish of Ávila” indications, a red flag for tourists traps. Positive note: very fast service, friendly waiters. But I felt betrayed and, given price and quality, I recommend choosing another place.
Riccardo D — Google review
We were taken by our guide here and he suggested the local special, tasting menu wh I was 26 euros /person and included a shared soup, favs beans and a mashed sweet potatoes with bacon. The main entree was 1.6 lb veal steak with fries and the desert was egg yolks steamed with sugar. The veal was not that tasty or tender

We came to this restaurant as part of our tour to get our free egg tapa and it was not bad. Since it was a holiday and not a lot.pf things were opened, we decided to order more food to make sure we got something to eat. Keep in mind that during the holidays it gets pretty busy and there would be a delay on getting food. We ordered the meal of the day, grilled chicken and beef meal. Our grilled items were tasty and they did hit the spot. The fries were not crispy but I was the only one in my party that did not mind. Overall, a good balanced meal but be aware and prepared to wait for busy days or holidays.

The Avila steak was soooo big !!! A bit undercooked, is it their way maybe but even at raw it was tough meat. It felt like a tourist trap

Great food and good vibe! Loved the crackling pork!

We were at this restaurant. It looked very typical, but it was nothing like that. Far from being a typical Spanish and Ávila restaurant, it's a place where quality is not its forte. We tried to eat some torreznos and two pinchos of tortilla de patatas, all cold. The tortilla, besides being cold, was like eating sand.

The Monastery of Incarnation, located north of the city walls, is a significant Renaissance monastery where Santa Teresa embraced monastic life for 27 years. It offers visitors the opportunity to explore three main rooms, including the one where the saint resided. The monastery also functions as a convent and place of worship, rather than just a museum. Visitors can witness relics and items used by Saint Teresa and Saint Juan de la Cruz.
It is a cloistered convent of Carmelite nuns. This is where Teresa of Jesus, also called Teresa of Ávila, became a nun in 1535. It is said that she established the foundation of the Barefoot Carmelite Sisters here. Traces of Teresa can be found inside the building. You can enter the monastery museum for 2 euros. The staff are very friendly.

Super friendly staff, if you can contribute, entrance is 2€, but it is so worth it! You get to see and walk through St. Teresa of Avilas footsteps and really soak in a lot of information. They guide you through the church attached to the monastery as well, and all the areas where she lived. An amazing experience!

The Museo de Santa Teresa de Jesús is a museum dedicated to the life and legacy of Santa Teresa, a noblewoman who became a nun and worked to reform monastic rules. Located in her birthplace, this museum houses old items and books related to her. It's recommended to learn about Santa Teresa before visiting to fully appreciate the exhibits. The museum features religious art and historical features, creating a mystical atmosphere in the calm village where it is situated.
Had a mass here, then had the chance to check the place, all the old items and books of St. Teresa of Avila (St. Teresa of Jesus). Note that she is different from Thérèse of Lisieux (St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face). St. Teresa was born in the location of this church. very nice and holy church inside a very calm small village.

The worst “museum” I have ever visited! At first, I couldn’t even enter because I’m not over 22 years old, can you even imagine not being allowed to see art just because you’re under 22? Unfortunately, I finally managed to get in for 2.50 euros, and it was a huge mistake! The lights in the museum halls don’t work, the paintings are mediocre, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they should pay me to go in! Absolutely awful!
Marta L — Google review
Dark and dangerous. Broken lights in many rooms. Unlit narrow stone stairs to the kitchen - an accident waiting to happen. I came to see the Spanish painter Sorolla's work primarily but the room was completely dark - no working lights at all. The attendants shrugged their shoulders " they know the lights are broken, but they won't fix them". What is the point of going to an art gallery when you can't see the art?? Also, rooms closed off due to broken floors. We were very disappointed.

(Translated by Google) The Torreón de los Guzmanes is a building from the early 16th century built in Renaissance style with ashlar masonry and granite masonry. The façade is quite sober, especially highlighting the quadrangular tower, which in its highest part has battlements and four projecting watchtowers in the corners, which gives the tower the appearance of a defensive fortress. Only part of the building is accessible, specifically the old stables. Here you can see "Vetona", a permanent exhibition that shows an interactive interpretation of the society of the Iberian people of the Vetones: agriculture, livestock, crafts or funerary rituals. The Torreón de los Guzmanes has been declared a National Monument since 1983 and is currently the headquarters of the Provincial Council of Ávila. Admission to the exhibition is free. The Torreón is an old and grandiose noble house located in one of the most beautiful squares in Ávila, next to the Superunda palace and with the statue of Saint John of the Cross watching, unalterable, the people passing by. Avila is home to approximately 10 museums, including the Museo de Avila - the main museum in the city. The building itself is beautiful and contains excellent content, although it would benefit foreign visitors if some of the material were available in English. One notable absence from the exhibits is any reference to local composer Tomas Luis de Victoria, who was widely known throughout Europe during the 16th century. Despite this oversight, the museum remains an impressive destination for history enthusiasts visiting Avila.

This little museum (free at the time of writing) is well worth a look. It has displays on folk costumes, traditional kitchens, weaving and farming. There are also archaeological artefacts from Palaeolithic times to recent centuries. It has a good collection of verracos (boar statues) from the Vettones, a pre-Roman people and culture.
Raymond L — Google review
Super museum in a beautiful building and great for everyone who reads complicated Spanish. Excellent content. But some simple material in English would hugely enhance the foreign visitor's experience. What disappointed me was the lack of any reference to music, in particular the local composer from 16th century Tomas Luis de Victoria who is widely known throughout Europe. If the great man deserves a statue in the city (he does) , then he warrants a mention in room 8. Please!

A hidden gem. I was lost and my phone was almost dead. I saw this place hidden away from the more crowded areas (I was lost again - in another town of Spain lol) This is a popular native hang out. (Translated by Google) Terrible service. We wanted to sit on the terrace, but they had reserved seats, so they moved us to the inner courtyard. The tables and chairs there were dirty, and none of them had napkins. They told us it was self-service and they wouldn't come to serve us. Okay, let's go get our drinks, and they tell us the tapas aren't there yet, that they'd let us know to go get them. After a while, and as people came with tapas, we approached and were practically scolded for not having come sooner. They were waving us (I assume smoke signals). When we got to the bar, there were only three of the four tapas on offer, one of which had been taken by other customers. Of course, as soon as we ordered our drinks, they quickly took out the credit card. Oh! To leave, you also have to collect your plate and drink. The tapas were good, by the way. Ah! Catedral de Ávila is an austere Romanesque-Gothic cathedral that is integrated into the city walls, featuring a striking stone interior. Construction began in the 12th century as part of the city's defensive walls, with its apse serving as a component of the fortifications. The main facade is relatively simple in design, highlighted by a large Gothic window and a towering structure.
Nice Cathedral of Avila, the main tourist spot and centre of attraction. The entrance walls are amazing and huge with nice shape and style. There are many lion sculptures right outside, our guide referred to them as Kardashian Lions 🤣, recommended! Do visit

This was the most surprising place for me, for I didn't expect anything different from the usual sights in Spanish cathedrals. I was very much fascinated by the place as it is marvellous and splendid. It was designed as a temple and fortress, its apse being one of the cubes of the city wall . The building, a mixture of Gothic and Romanesque styles , dates back to the 12th century and is considered the first Gothic cathedral in Spain. It has a Latin cross plan consisting of three naves, a transept and a semicircular chancel with a double ambulatory . This variety of architecture gives rise to a sober and fortified exterior that gives way to Gothic lightness with Renaissance touches on the inside.

This is a must see place. Considered to be the oldest Gothic cathedral in Spain. It is unique in the sense that it is attached to the city wall and the stones used to build it have a deep reddish tinge.

Imposing cathedral in centre of town. Built of Gothic and Roman styles - one of first 2 Gothic cathedrals in Spain . High ceiling church. Easy level access, not crowded. Entry fees. Not sure when construction began exactly - probably 12th century.

A magnificent cathedral near the astonishing walls of Ávila. The bas-reliefs, columns, statues, and wooden seats for the choir are stunning. It's definitely worth visiting, and it has an interesting history as well.
Francesco M — Google review
The Cathedral of Avila is a monumental building that was part fortress and part religious centre of the city. This had some incredible stonework carvings and also some beautiful painted altars. The cathedral was fabulously bright with lots of windows and a beautifully high vaulted roof. There were lots of saints and, I assume, bishops tombs, as well as a few knights and we were also able to visit the cloisters. These had been restored in the 1970's and it looked like this was ongoing with a couple of areas blocked off and netting/sheeting covering some parts. One of the attractions included in the €10 entrance fee was the VR experience. This was a fabulous addition and showed some areas from a different perspective as well as giving a good history of the cathedral. Sadly, of the 10 or so VR stations, only 1 was actually working so we had to take it in turns.
Marcus H — Google review
I was not happy at first to pay 10 euros for the entrance as it is as expensive as Salamanca's cathedral and smaller but it is impressive and the audioguide for kids was great! They had plenty of fun. They also have a VR experience at the end, which is OK.

Convento de San José (Carmelitas Descalzas) is a simple and austere Carmelite convent, known as the first Santa Teresa founded in 1562. Located in Avila, a city famous for its intact medieval walls and towers, this charming and splendid church was designed by Mora with a very Counter-Reformation facade. The convent is situated in a secluded square and features a precious sculpture of Jose Carpintero with the Child by the hand on its portico.

I love seeing relics, but I prefer the Monastery. I was out of cash and it's the only way to see the relics. Each section of relics has a light, and there was another group seeing them. I walked in not knowing I had to pay and the lady there is not very nice. She asked what I wanted and I said to look around, she proceeded to turn off the lights of the unused sections and tell me it had a cost. I asked if I could pay with card, and she said cash only and signaled at the door. Didn't feel very catholic, I usually pay, and these places are typically voluntary, so it doesn't limit people. It felt wrong but I might be wrong :) Just my experience-make sure to have cash. But if you don't there are many other places to visit.

The Palacio Polentinos, a 16th-century building made of granite ashlar work and masonry, is home to the Army Museum and Military History Archive. The Plateresque-style porch features military motifs, while medallions adorn the courtyard lintels. The palace surrounds a quadrangular central courtyard with galleries that have five columns each, featuring monolithic shafts, Doric capitals and bases.

(Translated by Google) Romanesque church from the initial period near the old Muslim cemetery of Ávila. This Church of San Nicolás gives its name to the neighborhood and the city council has respected its site, leaving it in a garden and space between streets. In the semicircular entrance arches, guards carved in stone with interlaces that recall a Visigothic influence are preserved. The chrismon on the side door facing north stands out, a Christian symbol of early times, carved in stone. The bell tower added to the perimeter of the church is reminiscent of Italian Byzantine churches, due to its simple design and its own space. The construction periods are clearly visible due to the different quarries whose different colors and hardness are visible. And thanks to the poverty of Ávila, this jewel, a witness to the times, remained without being recycled to make another, more modern one in its place. That is why it is part of our history and shows us that we do not always have to modernize with the times as if it were better. Its solidity and beauty demonstrate it and teach us a lesson: life is only about learning and respecting, valuing what others built with so much effort, art and ingenuity. It will always catch our attention for its solidity, its mimicry with the environment due to its materials and colors, something that is not always taken into account today. Admiring it, believers or not, you have respect because when you see the worked stone you already discover the human effort that has been dedicated to it.

(Translated by Google) Currently it is one of the delegations of the Junta de Castilla y León where the tourism concierge is located. Its first construction dates back to the 15th century, it was built by Álvaro Dávila, therefore the palace should be called the Marquis of Mariscal since the aforementioned Álvaro was a marshal of Castile. Originally the palace had a defensive character, it was one of those that defended the gates of the walls of Ávila, therefore attached to the wall practically integrated into it. As proof of this, the door in the wall to which the Palace is attached receives the name of its first owner: MARISCAL GATE. Highlighting the inner courtyard of the palace. The name Bracamonte comes from the fact that D. Álvaro married the daughter of the first Bracamonte, of French origin, who came to Spain to help Enrique II in the civil war against his brother Pedro I, the Cruel of Castile. There is evidence that the second owner ordered its reconstruction in 1510 and it was finished around 1597, many years due to different complications.

(Translated by Google) I had a very bad experience in this place, yesterday (Monday, April 14 at 12:30 noon) and they set the time and date because the attention of the worker was really what made the experience bad, we arrived at the monastery around 12:15 we entered and everything was fine, then when we went to enter the museum (which is next to the church) the glass doors did not open but there was an announcement that marked the opening and closing time (it said that closed at 2pm) the thing is that the glass doors didn't open but there was a person inside but he didn't give us information or anything, we made signs to him but he didn't, we went to go around the place to see if there was another entrance and we came back, we waited almost 20 minutes outside to see if someone would give us information (at that time I called the phone number that they have added here in Google maps and they didn't answer either) it was 1pm and some people came out and the doors opened, and We decided to enter, when we entered there was no one and we continued (in Avila there are several places with free entry and we thought that this one would be the same, since it had no advertisements or information) we entered and saw what we could to take advantage of the time (since it said it closed at 2pm) then at around 1:45pm a girl came to inform us that they were going to close and this was where the problem arose, because she accused us of "having sneaked" into the museum without paying, that we should not have entered without Let's see the entrance fee paid, we're like what??? There was no one at the entrance, but we told her that there was no problem, so when we left we paid the entrance fee (which had a cost of €4 per person and we were 2 people) ok everything stayed there until the girl started telling us that we shouldn't have sneaked in that she was there and I don't know what so many things she started to tell us and in one of those she told us that we shouldn't have entered after 1pm because the place had already closed. That's where the problem begins because we had been before, I called on the phone several times and she just said that no call had come, in the end she ended up saying that we snuck in and we kind of... if the problem with the ticket is such a problem then we are going to pay for it (because we had no problem paying for it) and she ended up saying that you couldn't pay for the ticket because they can't be sold after 1... so we never understood what the reproach was that we had to pay if she couldn't generate the ticket anyway, I don't know if she expected that We would give the money to her or... it is also important to highlight that according to her she saw us enter (we did not see her) but if she is the worker of the place because she did not tell us that we had to pay the entrance or that at 1pm the entrance was already closed (although on the outside it said that it closed at 2pm) or because she did not call us to charge us for the entrance and give us the headphones for the audio guide... in short, the situation was very bad, the attention was terrible and it is not It is in good taste that she closes the entrance door because she had left for 5 minutes when we were outside for more than 20 minutes...
