Ancient Ruins
The Acropolis of Ancient Sami is a significant archaeological site located on the island of Kefalonia. It was a powerful city in ancient times, even mentioned by Homer in his epics. The Acropolis was situated on the mountain of Lapitha and has been fortified since the Paleolithic Age. The strategic location attracted Roman interest, leading to their invasion in 189 B.C.
The site is absolutely massive and it basically covers the entire hill. I'm not sure what the best way to start exploring is, depending on how much time you have on your hands and ...well, how much of a fantic you are. I took about 90 minutes to stroll around but i barely covered half of it. The site seems almost untouched, unexplored. There is rubble lying all around all the way from massive wall remains down to +supposedly) roof tiles. From what i read the city resisted Roman Siege for 4 months after which it was taken, razed and abandoned for good. I'm sure stone has been taken for construction over the years but the site really looks like something that saw a violent battle. With some imagination, you can almost feel it. I visited during sundown which was perfect. Not too hot and photos were okay. Highly recommended if you're into ancient history type of stuff
Michal B — Google review
Whilst a lot of the Acropolis is gone the views are stunning, and what is left of the stones is impressive. Short walk from the road, highly recommended but loses one star as they really need to replace the damaged old signs so you can read about it. Definitely recommended though
Ian M — Google review
Astonishing views and truely beautiful, it's a bit hard underfoot so definitely not flip flops. Not for those with poor mobility. There are really only traces left of the Acropolis on both hills with more to see on the castle hill, the castle appears to be constructed of robbed out blocks of stone from the defencive walls. A great walk
Richard W — Google review
A nice, mostly unexcavated archaeological site, with some impressive structures. The views from it are spectacular. Park next to the sign for the Kastro, and be prepared for a moderately challenging hike. Take a pole or walking stick if you have one. We went early in the morning in October and saw some wasps, but not bad.
Howard B — Google review
A wonderful experience. We were alone up there with the history of the place almost tangible. A slightly challenging climb if you’re mobility challenged like me, but good, safe paths if a little rough under foot in places. The views of Sami Bay and harbour alone are worth the walk and there’s shade under the trees.
Kerry B — Google review
An absolutely beautiful place to visit. It's at the top of a walking trail overlooking Sami, the trail to get there is very moderate to hard, take plenty of water during the hot season. Once you get there you are greeted to an ancient Mycenaean city (1400-1100BC) who seemed to have been very well organised with massive stone blocks scattered around the mountain site the entrance is facing east to west, I checked my compass on my phone so sunrise must be amazing, if you carry on walking along the path around the city you'll see a massive stone wall slopeing down a steap hill, the views of Sami are amazing to while walking the path around the city.
Ryan — Google review
Good road up the mountain then a 200m walk up rocky terrain to reach a good level plateux. Not much left of the Acropolis but the views over Sami Bay are incredible. Definitely worth the trip. No admission charge.
Keith K — Google review
A scramble up, but then fabulous views over Sami and other parts of Kefalonian coast. Not much of the ancient monument has survived, but a set of steps were impressive

Maritime museum
The Nautical Museum of Sami is a testament to the rich naval history of Sami and Ancient Samins, with its mention in the Odyssey adding to its historical significance. The museum boasts stunning exhibits of wooden shipbuilding models that showcase the impressive craftsmanship of ancient maritime traditions. Visitors are treated to a special tour by the owner's son, who passionately shares his knowledge about the meticulously crafted boat models.
Truly a gem of a place, the model ships are of such a variety and are truly works of art. The owner and ship builder gave us a fascinating run through of the different technologies the boats had through the ages and answered our heaps of questions about the building process and how he works out the measurements and details from the original plans. I would definitely recommend a visit, we easily managed to spend an hour and a half, and easily could have spent longer. What a wonderful passion project!
Saskia F — Google review
If you ever find yourself visiting Kefalonia, do not miss this amazing museum! It's owned by the sweetest man that took 25 years to build this all by hand. It was an amazing experience, the craftsmanship is superb and he is full of knowledge! The ships are built to such detail, it's incredible!
Sylvana S — Google review
This place is amazing! You’ll be amazed by the phenomenal handwork of the ship models. The host is very friendly and can tell you stories, legends, and details about the boats and ships. If you don’t have much time, prioritize this over the caves. I truly regret visiting the caves instead of more time here!
Sgs P — Google review
The Nautical Museum of Sami is truly one of the finest museums I have ever visited! It is inspiring to see the collection of intricately hand-crafted vessels, each rich in detail, and to follow the fascinating story of maritime evolution over the years. A remarkable achievement by Mr. Sotiris, who dedicated countless years to creating this one-of-a-kind museum. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting the island of Kefalonia!
Nikolas L — Google review
When you first walk in you see a lot of model boats, and think, oh that’s quite interesting. But then when you speak to the owner Sotiris, oh my goodness does the place come alive! He has built every one of the boats from original plans and by hand, and then he share some of the details and talks about so much else (I learnt lots about Archimedes, he was so much more than the guy who shouted Eureka in the bath). A completely enjoyable hour with an enthusiastic and passionate owner who he’s put his life and soul into creating such a treasure. Thankyou Sotiris, you made our day.
Karen B — Google review
Sweet museum kept by a ship passionate who has built the entire collection presented in the museum. The details of each ship is completely impressive. Highly recommend to visit !
JaidLoom — Google review
Incredible private museum of one man’s collection of hand built ship models spanning thousands of years. The builder is also the museum curator who can answer your questions while visiting. He has built these on his own, over a period of 25-30 years but the museum has been in existence for 5 or so years. Photos do not do this justice. It’s a must visit attraction when visiting the island, lots of parking available and affordable 5€ entry fee to support the museum and continued building of new vessels.
Jim K — Google review
In short, this place is a treasure. The model ships are not only expertly made, beautiful, but also extremely detailed. Photos do not do them justice, when you see them up close, you understand their true beauty and craftsmanship. It's clear that the owner and artist is a creative and technical genius. It's a wonderful experience for anyone that has the technical "knack", the curiosity to figure the function and form of things, and especially for those that love ships and sailing. However, the museum's true invaluable gem is the owner, Sotiris. Sotiris is a man that has spent years at sea, is a mechanic, a woodworker, a creative craftsperson that has the knowledge, culture and education to match his skills. He knows about geometry, physics, history, poetry, philosophy, he is a true homo universalis. He is soft spoken, friendly, accommodating, humble, and overall very pleasant person to tour the museum and chat with. I couldn't recommend this museum more. I believe that the museum should be highlighted more, and is a must to everyone's Kefalonia trips and vacations. Truly, truly truly a marvelous experience. If I could give this a higher score, I would.

For a quick bite or midday meal, head to Mangiare situated in the central square of Sami. This establishment offers a delightful selection of souvlaki, gyros, bites, and beverages right by the seaside. It's an ideal spot for observing passersby and boat enthusiasts as it attracts both locals and tourists alike.
We are traveling off-season (November). They were very quick to accommodate a large group of tourists. Friendly service. Delicious food

We were there for dinner. We had the gyros which were really good, falvourful and hot. We also had the greek salad, the grilled feta cheese and tzatziki. Everything was very good the waiters were very nice a. They even lit some coffee next to us to get rid of the wasps.

We came, make an order pita gyros, the waiter said we can’t sit with pita gyros, just with plate. We said, we will take it away. Took two pita gyros one without tzatziki, was offered with ketchup, but came without any sauce. Pita gyros was okay, not bad. Just the service.. we sat anyway to eat our gyros by the table.

The best coffee in Sami!! A truly local feel and such lovely staff. Trust me, this is THE BEST apple pie you will find. All pies are freshly baked every day so there will always be something different on offer.

Amazing coffee. Especially the espresso with ice cream (pictured) Nice cosy atmosphere. Delicious home made pies - similar pastry to a samosa. We had the ham and cheese and it was so yummy! Warm vibes and nice people away from the busier places on the harbour.

Boat rental service
Pirates Rent A Boat in Sami, along with Kefalonia Compass Rent a Boat, offers self-drive boat rentals and day trips on the Sami Star. Customers have praised Pirates for their instant response to bookings and for providing well-maintained boats like the Blackbeard and Flying Dutchman. The staff is described as accommodating, providing thorough safety briefings and ensuring customers are comfortable operating the boats.
Amazing experience renting from Pirates! The boat was well maintained and clean and the staff was immensely helpful and made us feel safe and confident taking the boat out by ourselves. The fuel was also changed at honest cost and all transactions were conducted with full transparency. It was our favorite part of our trip to the island!
Ellie B — Google review
Rented from Pirates 2 times and the experience was perfect, just insure weather is good and you will have a lot of fun. There boats are in very good condition and the team are very friendly and cooperative. Suggest you book Jason or ioli or electra, powerful and has good space specially for couples to conformably lay-down under the sun. We got a 20 min briefing on how to operate the boat and went directly to the beautiful beaches of Kefalonia. Return was smooth and easy, and Pirates team were very honest with regard to fuel consumption and don’t overcharge. Would definitely chose this company whenever I’m back to the island. Thanks to all Pirates Team for this level of professionalism which really was highlight of our stay in the island.
Mohd A — Google review
What a fantastic experience. From start to finish the guys at Pirates were fantastic. A brief training session before departure, a truly amazing day cruising around the coast and a little helping hand mooring the boat as we returned. Honestly, it was one of the highlights of our holiday and we would definitely recommend their services. 5/5!
Richard G — Google review
The men who work there are kind and friendly and make sure you know what you’re doing. We have never driven a boat before but it was so easy! The boats themselves are spotless and well maintained. Defiantly something you need to do and this is the company to use

Super professional outfit. We've rented a few day boats around Greece over the years and Pirates exceeded our experiences so far. Super friendly, courteous, informative and kind. The boat was immaculate and the navigation App we were asked to DL was really helpful for getting around. Really reasonable price and a fair fuel arrangement. Thanks guys, we'll be back!

If you are wanting to go to Ithaka, then go with Pirates. The whole team are so lovely and thoughtful. We hired a private charter, and our skipper Agolas was quick to show us some lovely quiet beaches and superb swimming spots before dropping us off in Vathi for a stunning sea seaside lunch and a spot of shopping. Excellent seamanship from our skipper ensured we felt safe and the was relaxing and enjoyable. The views of coastline are stunning and this is the best way to see them.
Tina G — Google review
We had an excellent day boat trip with this wonderful and professional company. We also hired a skilled skipper, which made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. The tour was truly fun and well-organized, with stops at beautiful locations where we could jump into the water and fully enjoy ourselves. Overall, it was a memorable day filled with great moments and fantastic scenery. We highly recommend this company for anyone looking for a relaxing and entertaining boat excursion.

Public beach
Loutro Beach in Kefalonia is a picturesque spot located near Sami and Antisamos beach. The beach is surrounded by lush green hills and offers crystal-clear waters with an interesting seabed, making it perfect for snorkeling and swimming. While the beach lacks amenities like sunbeds and a beach bar, it provides a more natural experience for visitors. However, the rocky terrain requires water shoes for entry into the clear and warm waters.
Very nice beach Has a shower which does have a lot of wasps surrounding it Be careful in the rocks as there are crabs
Lilian N — Google review
Lovely peaceful beach with pine trees to the shore, crystal clear waters and fantastic views to Ithaca. We initially drove past this beach on our way to Antisamos beach, which is absolutely stunning whilst at the same time also being a living nightmare (paradise lost?). We immediately turned on our heels, got back into the car and drove to back Loutro for a quick dip. (.... it has a handy fresh water shower as well)
Dominic V — Google review
Look at the size of this beach. Quite a bit if shade when we came, so followed the sun, and couldn't believe that a mardy English couple (the boy) complained I was too close to him.
Lynne A — Google review
Clean sea, must be careful with small children goes deep quickly. Does have a shower on the beach and there is a changing cubicle on the other side of the road. Canteen selling refreshments close by.
Sarah H — Google review
Just a few people, directly on the main road. Just beware of sea urchins!
Rodrigo B — Google review
Very nice, small beach by the road. We visited with a group of tourists and literaly walked down from the bus to the water. The beach rocky and the entrance in the water also so water shoes are must. The water is clear and warm, good for snorkeling. No sunbeds, music and beach bar, just the waves from the ferries.
Alice V — Google review
Our first beach we visited on Kefalonia. Beautiful view on Ithaka. Most likely in the evening, during sunset (but you will not see the sunset itself, couse beach oriental to north-north-west, and mountains on the west will obstruct).
Roman T — Google review
Beautiful view to the island of Ithaca. Good place for snorkeling, but not recommended to families with small children because of the deep water. There are many sea urchins as well, so a swimming shoe is highly recommended here.

Customers appreciate the clean, spacious boats and the thorough training provided by the staff. Additionally, the company's honest and kind service has left customers feeling grateful for their experience on the water.
Last year we rented 2 boats and we were absolutely fascinated by them. They were so clean and well maintained! Everything was prepared in advance - there was a cool box with ice and water, sun umbrella, mats and everything necessary to have one unforgettable day! The man renting the boats is so kind, funny and cute! About the sightseeing there is nothing to say - a real Paradise! I am so happy we had the chance to be there!
Stela B — Google review
We had a great experience renting a boat for the first time! The team was super friendly, knowledgeable, and gave us all the guidance we needed to feel comfortable. The boat was well equipped with a cooler, water, and beach gear. We were able to see beautiful quiet beaches that we never would have without renting a boat. Just make sure you’re back by 3:00 pm as the water gets fairly choppy. Highly recommend for a smooth, stress-free day on the water!

Absolutely recommend Compass boat hire! THE friendliest people, very calm in giving clear instructions for us complete beginners! We had the most magical experience exploring the different coves, swimming to explore caves, diving into the most stunning turquoise waters, an experience we will never forget! We paid for the highest insurance as naturally we are nervous of dodgy people, but we needn’t have worried - a genuine company and we will definitely use them again next time we visit - THANK YOU 🙏🏻
Bekah M — Google review
It's absolutely amazing. A must try and wholeheartedly recommended! The boat was in good condition, and thanks to the quick brief prior to sailing, it was very easy to manoeuvre and anchor. Thank you Compass team for making these wonderful moments come true.

Absolutely fantastic experience! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The boats were in excellent condition and everything worked perfectly. We received a thorough safety briefing and a great introduction to boating, which made us feel very comfortable. Everything went smoothly from start to finish – highly recommended!

Great team - very responsive on WhatsApp, and great prices. Had an awesome day going across to Ithaca first, then down to Lazarus and back up the coast. Last stretch was very choppy as we made it back a little bit after when they suggested we return (we were having too much fun - got back 3.45 when they suggested to be back around 2.30). Highly recommend this if you’re visiting Kefalonia over Summer.
Mac C — Google review
I have been hiring speedboats for years and this was my best ever experience. They were responsive to my queries online in advance of my booking, were professional and thorough when I arrived and it was a nice boat in good condition. It’s also a great way to explore around Sami and Ithaki as there are lots of pretty small bays which are only accessible by boat.
Jeremy C — Google review
We decided to rent a boat for a day as a this was something we have never done before. We noticed Kefalonia Compass flags in Sami port and also noticed they have a fleet of well-maintained boats. We additionally checked their reviews online which were flawless, so the decision was not hard. As total novices in boating, we received great instructions from a staff member prior to our start. The boat was clean, the team also supplied a coolbox, with enough bottles of water for the day. We spent a great day on the boat, found some hidden bays and beaches….perfect. All-in-all a great experience with the team from Kefalonia Compass Rent a Boat. They were very friendly and helpful and everything was as promised. I fully recommend them if you are in the Sami area and interested in renting a boat.

It's open all year round and offers both indoor and outdoor seating, allowing guests to enjoy their drinks inside or by the sea. The bar is known for its great cocktails, stylish staff, and excellent music selection, making it a cool place to hang out and chill under the trees.
By far the best cocktail bar in town. It's really worthy to relax in a really great garden atmosphere with a cold handmade cocktail (especially the signatures). As for the staff there is only one word to describe them: professionals.

Fantastic bar with great selection of drinks especially ‘adult cocktails’🍸 (none of that teenage sugary pitcher jugs of alcopop nonsense). Friendly staff and chilled atmosphere vibes. The music playing was what drew us in - from classic rock to 90’s indie. Highly recommended for those who want to spend the evening sipping, chatting and enjoying great music 🍸🍹🧉🍻

We stumbled across this lovely bar on a meander down the street just behind the harbour. It was a proper find, away from the busy harbour restaurants and feel more people should know about it! Much thought had gone into their drinks menu. Great to find such a quality range of non-alcoholic cocktails, which were some of the best. We came back 4 times during our stay as it was lovely and quiet and needed more time to get through their outstanding cocktail list. The two bar owners were very welcoming with great playlists and a chilled atmosphere. Complete with resident ginger 🐈

The vehicle was spotless, comfortable, and in excellent condition, and the ride itself was enjoyable from start to finish. We would gladly recommend Marios Transfers & Tours to anyone seeking reliable and professional service. Thank you, Mario!

Marios was a fantastic driver. Very knowledgeable and familiar with the area. Our transfer to our hotel from the ferry was smooth and we really loved the car Marios picked us up in. We would have loved to do a tour with him as it seems he knows a lot of great spots in kefalonia. We booked his services for our transfer back to the airport as well.

Marios is the best cab driver I have ever had. Super friendly and helpful. He picked us up in Sami and took us to the airport. On the way there was good music and all kinds of information about the island of Kefalonia, including recommendations on what we should definitely see. And the tips did not disappoint us. His car is very clean and comfortable. If you are on Kefalonia, you absolutely have to take a drive with Marios. It's definitely worth it.

The horses are well-cared for and provide a safe and enjoyable ride through quiet tracks, olive groves, and even to the beach. Pandelis takes great care in ensuring that each horse has a special place in his heart.
Brilliant day out with Padelis and his beautiful horses - he was excellent with all members of the group, even the ones who weren't used to riding! Will definitely return the next time we're in Kefalonia

Such an amazing experience! We had a great time with my friend, horses were so cute! Cantering on the beach felt like my dream coming true, I’m so grateful for that. Need to mention that all the horses looked very happy and healthy, the guys take a really good care of them. Horse welfare at its best ❤️

Myself and a friend attended for the two hour ride. Padelis and the team were attentive to our previous experience and provided horses to suit. It was a wonderful, gentle, guided ride to the beech and back. Fantastic for beginners. The whole team made the experience exceptional and I would definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful experience. Pandeli was very kind. Alicia and Alix were super sweet and made my young boys feel very comfortable. Thank you !!!!!!
Elpida D — Google review
The horses were well looked after and calm. We paid an extra €30 pp for a beach ride, which was a 10 minute walk up and down the same bit of stony beach before a slow walk back to the Stables. We were not offered the opportunity to even Trot and were honestly a little bored. The Guy running the place is very lovely, but would just recommend that novice riders attend this stables and not those who wish to actually ride

Manifiko is a popular spot in Kefalonia that has garnered positive reviews since its opening in 2018. Visitors have praised the venue for its great atmosphere, friendly staff, and stunning seaside location. It's known for serving excellent coffee, cocktails, and ice cream. The bar also boasts an impressive vinyl collection and is a favorite among music enthusiasts due to its fantastic rock music and DJ performances.
This was the best bar in Sami and trust me, we tried them all. We loved ending our night every night in Sami at Manifiko! The bartenders were extremely kind and attentive with great English. Rafael and Annetta were there every night that we were, and they shared info about the island, chatted about our lives and their lives, and made the best drinks we had during our stay. The price is perfectly affordable, and the owner is a music fanatic! He had an incredibly complex DJ setup with over a hundred vinyls from his personal collection. He expertly picked songs that made for perfect vibes every night we were there. Manifiko may have been our favorite location in all of Kefelonia. If you’re visiting Sami, your vacation will not be complete without a visit to Manifiko!

Sami Trekking offers a variety of outdoor activities for all fitness levels, including walks, treks, running trails, and cycling trails. The experienced local guides provide guided bike tours around Sami Geopark, taking visitors to secluded caves, beginner-friendly mountain bike trails, a ghost village abandoned after an earthquake in 1953, and a farm near Sami where feta is made. The tour also includes breathtaking views and less touristy adventurous trails.
Our hiking trip to Mt. Ainos was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we started, it was clear that our guide was deeply passionate about the natural beauty and history of the area. Christos, our guide, set a comfortable pace, always attentive to the group’s needs and made sure everyone felt supported, regardless of their hiking experience. Reaching the peak was an unforgettable moment. The panoramic views over Kefalonia were breathtaking, and our guide took the time to help us appreciate the serene beauty around us. Highly recommend.

Wowzers! What a completely lush day! Lambros took us to a whole host of lesser known gems in the Kefalonia Geopark including some ghost villages, terrifying precipices and beautiful lakes. I’m not a very fit person and was very worried I wouldn’t keep up, but the e-bikes allowed me to get up the hills easily and enjoy adventure with my family! We enjoyed some delicious Kefalonian snacks and to top it all off, Lambros took us to a gorgeous glade and we had an unforgettable archery session! For any crazy people out there who like running, Lambros is also a very experienced trail runner and organises a Kefalonia Mountain Marathon. (It runs in September) He would be a great guide for anyone looking some off road HIT and adventure :-)

The e-bike rental service is run with incredible kindness and great professionalism. The bikes are high-quality and very well maintained, making the ride even more enjoyable. What’s even more unique is that the owner also runs a jewelry shop. His creations are remarkably fine and beautiful, true pieces of art. Whether you’re looking for an e-bike adventure or to discover exquisite jewelry, I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

We had a fantastic guided bike tour of Sami and around Sami Geopark with Lambros! He took us to a couple of secluded caves (like Melissani cave but no tourists), some fun but totally beginner-friendly mountain bike trails, a ghost village abandoned after the 1953 earthquake, and an amazing lunch at a farm near Sami where we saw how they make feta. Lambros took very good care of us, making sure everyone was comfortable and safe on the bikes. We had a mix of ebikes and regular mountain bikes (Orbea), all in great condition and well serviced. He is a great storyteller and gave us a window into life on this beautiful island.

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Antisamos beach is a picturesque cove with turquoise waters nestled between two wooded headlands. It's famous for its peacock-feather emerald and royal-blue waters, making it a beautiful swimming spot. The beach was featured in the movie Captain Corelli's Mandolin, and its clear, balmy shallows are perfect for snorkeling.
Really good beach with turquoise clean waters. The beach bars rules about the sunbeds and umbrellas vary - some ask for minimum spend per set (40 to 30 euro) while others have restrictions. Beach shoes are recommended although not absolutely necessary.
Ivan F — Google review
Very nice beach. If you’re lucky, you can spot plenty of fish. However, there are also quite a lot of wasps—more than you usually see on other beaches in Kefalonia. We had brought some fruit with us, but we couldn’t eat it because the wasps started gathering. I even got stung by one
Diana C — Google review
I really enjoyed this place! The view is beautiful, the drink service is great, and the beach is perfect even for non-swimmers since the water isn’t steep. Many people mention the wasps, but they’re just part of nature — you get used to them after a while. The sunbeds are free as long as you order from Acron Bar. The staff never pressured us about how much to order, which made the experience even more relaxing. We simply chose the sunbeds we liked, ordered a few beers and cocktails, and enjoyed that perfect vacation feeling: sitting back with a book while someone brings you your favorite drinks. Prices seemed reasonable to us, though “high” and “low” can mean different things to different people, so it’s best to check the menu first. If the sea is calm, you’ll see plenty of fish gathering around you — they don’t bite or bother you, it’s just fun to watch them swim by. Another thing I loved is that it’s a stone beach rather than sand. You stay clean, with no sand sticking to your feet or ending up in the car or hotel room. Swimming shoes can make walking more comfortable, but they’re not absolutely necessary if you don’t mind going barefoot. All in all, it’s a lovely spot to relax, swim, and enjoy drinks by the sea. Highly recommend!
Scripcaru A — Google review
Antisamos Beach is often promoted as one of the top ten beaches in the world. While it is undoubtedly beautiful, I personally wouldn’t place it among the world’s absolute best. It’s certainly worth a visit, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression strong enough to make me want to return. The beach features white pebbles, which give the water a striking turquoise-blue color, especially near the shore. However, just a few meters after entering the water, it drops off into deep sea quite abruptly, so most people stay and swim within the first 10 meters of the shoreline. Along the beach, there are several restaurants that advertise “free sunbeds and free parking.” This, however, comes with fine print — the sunbeds are only “free” if you spend a minimum of €30–€45, depending on the establishment. It’s important to ask for the exact conditions upfront to avoid surprises. There is also a section of the beach with paid sunbeds that cost €15–€20 per set, without any consumption required. And finally, there’s a public area where you can bring your own umbrella and towel, but keep in mind that the pebbles here are quite large and rough, which makes it less comfortable for lying down without proper padding. For those who enjoy watersports, the far end of the beach offers a variety of guided water sports activities, which adds some excitement to the overall experience. All in all, Antisamos Beach is lovely to see and worth visiting once, especially for the vivid water color and mountain backdrop. But with the crowds, pricing conditions, and lack of comfort in the public section, it doesn’t quite live up to the global hype in my view. At the end Of this review I must underline my nightmare of this beach- wasps, there are thousands of them and they are very annoying.
Alex R — Google review
Very good value, great parking, super beach, clear calm water, free sun beds and great service. Two of us - 3 big beers, fanta and a small meal for 2 all for €45. Definitely the best beach we visited in the island.
David T — Google review
The beach was amazing - the water crystal clear and sunbeds and changing facilities abound. There’s a restaurant that has a variety of foods and desserts and they bring it right to your sunbed. The road to get there is a spiral wind but definetly worth it. We spent a memorable day there and didn’t want to leave.
Debbie Z — Google review
Beautiful beach, with fine pebbles in some parts and larger ones in others. The water is clean, clear, and great for snorkeling. There are showers, sunbeds, but also plenty of free space.
Nadja — Google review
Amazing beach! Clear turquoise water, pebbles on the beach itself, breathtaking views both from the way to the beach and the water itself. Prices for bed rental were standard (15 euro for 2 beds and an umbrella). The cocktails at the beach bar were nice (if a bit pricey).

Agia Paraskevi Beach is a delightful destination that offers both public and private beach options, making it perfect for all types of visitors. The private area provides sun loungers for a fee, allowing you to relax in comfort while enjoying the stunning crystal-clear waters. Families will appreciate the nearby green meadow where children can play freely, although be prepared for some lively activity as parents engage their little ones in games.
Perfect beach, I am surprised it is not advertised on the social platforms. There is a private beach, at the shade of the trees and a public beach, on the rocks. The private beach offers 2 sunbeds for 15 euros (all day), parking, toilets and shower for additional 50 euro cents. The water is crystal clear and great for snorkeling.
Luciana D — Google review
One of our favorite beaches of the trip. There is a free parking lot with plenty of parking. This is a pebble beach but they are not painful to walk on unlike the smaller pebble beaches. There is natural shade from trees. There is a cafe (we didn’t eat there). The water was very nice for swimming and snorkelling.
Yuval S — Google review
Agia Paraskevi Beach is an enchanting haven that promises a memorable experience. The stunning, crystal-clear waters of the sea are a sight to behold, inviting you to immerse yourself in their beauty. What sets this beach apart is the unique arrangement of sun loungers nestled within a charming little park beneath the shade of trees. The adjoining green meadow offers a wonderful space for kids to play, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere. You can find umbrella set for 15 euros ( one umbrella e two seats) or you can bring an umbrella for the free beach Adding to the allure, the beach is adorned with a plethora of beautiful butterflies that dance around, enhancing the natural beauty of the surroundings. There's no shortage of culinary delights either, with a well-stocked bar and restaurant offering authentic Greek cuisine that won't break the bank. As with any paradise, a few points of caution are in order. Beware of wasps, especially in the morning, as they are attracted to the water sprayed for lawn irrigation. It's advisable to carry antihistamines just in case. Additionally, the rocky terrain demands suitable footwear, so don't forget to pack those specially designed shoes for comfort. Agia Paraskevi Beach is a haven that seamlessly combines nature's beauty with the convenience of facilities, creating an unforgettable setting for a beach getaway.

Beautiful beach, but kinda small. .full of rocks. The water is deep right from the shore

Beautiful crystal clear water and calm swimming spot. Next to the road with easy access, there is a sunbed rental shop (paid) next to it. As usual in the island the beach is not sandy but with small round pebbles. There's not a lot of parking available - check the side of the road.

We hired beds for €15 and sat in a lovely shaded garden area. Easy steps down to the beach which is white pebble and rocks into the sea. We used beach shoes for this. Lovely location with views of Ithaca and Sami. Enjoyed about three hours on our tour of the Island before moving on to Agia Effimia.
Andy G — Google review
This beach should have a lifeguard, I guess the loophole they use here is not having sunbeds on the beach itself. Otherwise it would be required by law. If you come in the afternoon, the beach is shaded, after 3pm Each sunbeds costs 7.50 as in 2025

Karavomilos Lake, located near Sami in Kefalonia, is a picturesque and enchanting spot that showcases the island's geological wonders. The lake was formed through limestone erosion and the karst landscape of Kefalonia, making it a result of ancient geological processes. It is also of great biological importance, home to many endemic species. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk from Sami to the lake, passing by charming bridges and a little port along the way.

I was camping in camping Karavomilos beach, in Sami Kefalonia. From there it is about 15 minutes of walking, along the sea in a picturized road. I crossed about 4 nice bridges over little wster ways, there is also a little port on the way. Then I came to the lake which is a wondwrful place with a very nice tavern. There are also many nice places to sweem in the wonderful cold cristal see water. It is a must to go there at day time and also at night time.
Isak ו — Google review
Really nothing special. There isn't much parking space, and the lake itself smells quite bad. However, there's a nice tavern nearby, overlooking the ocean, so you can have a nice drink here. The lake itself is not very big, but there are a couple of geese very eager for attention / bread, as you can see on the pictures. Fun to visit if you're in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't recommend a special visit for this attraction.
Sven B — Google review
Relaxing pebble beach next to the lake The pebble is white and therefore shows up the emerald blue of the lake nicely. Definitely wear wet shoes to walk around here There's a charming tavern right on the lake with nicely shaded seating. This is an idyllic and relaxing stop to come to. The region of Sami has plenty to keep you happy. Make sure you leave no stone unturned!
Markos K — Google review
If you're in the area this place is a must visit in my opinion. It's always peaceful and beautiful to look at, you'll usually find ducks and geese in and around the lake. There's a tavern/cafe next to the lake so you can get something to eat and drink and there's also a playground to keep kids entertained.

We visited the Odysseus Theme Park and had an amazing experience! There are many animals and you can even buy carrots from there and feed them. The animals know what’s coming when they see you holding the carrots and they’ll run right up to you, eager to eat! It’s a truly fun and interactive experience 😊 The park also has an impressive variety of parrots, including Eclectus, African Grey, Blue-and-Gold Macaw, Cockatoo, and more. It’s a paradise for bird lovers! ♥️♥️♥️ Also, there’s a small shop where you can buy souvenirs and even unique jewelry at reasonable prices. The staff member there, Antigone, was absolutely wonderful, friendly, professional, and made our visit even more enjoyable! You’ll also find a place to grab handmade ice cream and refreshments, perfect for a break in between exploring. Overall, 10/10 and would highly recommended! Fantastic Spot. Away from the busy tourism and definitely a must visit! After the earthquake in 1953 the town got abandoned, and it's in a great state for a visit. Almost no one there, and the area is beautifull. If you're lucky you might encounter one of the few goats walking around, or see some deep water puts that are still in excellent condition. Please let this place stay as beautiful as it is!

John E — Google review
The ruin is small, has plenty of parking, and is open with no entrance fee. You can see everything in about 20 minutes. The houses are not very well preserved anymore, but still worth a look for the atmosphere. We were the only ones here.

Really cool place to visit! We were there in august and there wasn't a single other tourist in sight. The place is also surrounded by trees, so there is plenty of shade during a hot summer day. We combined this with the Melissani cave and Old Vlachata was so much more interesting. Would have given 5 stars if there were some information signs. We kind of missed some context

Remains of hill village brought down by quake of 1953. Though there are just the remains of houses, you can get a sense of rural life then - no electricity or running water ! Fabulous old olive trees. Great display of 'sea quills' known here as 'giant onions'.

Archaeological museum
The Archaeological Collection of Same is an impressive museum displaying a wide range of artifacts from the Hellenic, Hellenistic, and Roman periods. Many of the historical sites showcased in the museum are conveniently located nearby and can be easily reached on foot, while the acropolis and castle remains lie atop a hill to the east (a brief drive away). It offers a delightful day trip for visitors.
An absolute star turn of a small museum. It starts well with restored Roman mosaics outside, lovely cool building, enthusiastic and informative staff, great descriptions in Greek, Italian & English, and an interactive room for kids and grownups if they like. It is small - but the content is very varied. An excellent staff member showed us where to find the sites in Sami - graveyards, baths, Roman harbour - about 40 minutes round trip. It's a shame they don't have a street map and guide to these locations, but that's a minor gripe. Any interest in history - go there !

An amazing Museum in the heart of Sami, if you intend to walk up to the Macenaean city at the top of the hiking trails I would definitely recommend visiting here first it has a lot of information about the City and how to get there. The museum has a lot of and well preserved artifacts that have been excavated by Archaeologists from the Island. It is very informative about past human life and culture in Kefalonia and great for Greek history enthusiasts.

Amazing experience at the archaeological museum of Sami! I was positively impressed by their collection, the museum gave an interesting overview on the early habitants of Cephalonia! And the Greek and Roman periods of Sami and the cemetery of Fiskardo. We were welcomed with very informative and friendly staff of the museum and they provided us with a tablet to get extra information on each room and its exhibits. Very recommend if you are in Sami.

Despite being quite a small museum, a great collection of Greek and Roman finds, mosaics and art. Good clear information in both Greek and English describing the collections, good for both the archaeologist and the layman

Small but perfectly formed, very smart building and collection. Good for an hour and €5 which is worth it just for the AC 👍

A fantastic museum with a great deal of artifacts spanning from the Early Hellenic through to the Late Hellenic and then the Roman periods. Many of the archeological sites featured in the museum are within walking distance, while the acropolis and castle foundations can be found on a hill to the east (a very short drive away). A thoroughly enjoyable day trip! There is also a certain sadness to the site visits as the archaeological excavation equipment is still present at some of the sites, before funding expired.

Lovely little museum. No big exibitions, but what's there is just MARVELOUS. Almost all finds where local and truly of the best quality archeologie you can hope to see in a local museum. A lot of ancient glass and coins pots and pans, some statues a roman bath etc.

What a lovely and informative museum! Small but perfectly formed. Myself and my partner spent a fantastic hour here looking at wonderful objects and the staff were so kind and helpful. Highly recommend if you are in Sami for the day 👍😁

Nestled in a picturesque location, the "Monument to the Unknown Sailor" stands as a tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to the sea. Despite its intriguing presence, information about this monument is surprisingly scarce, leaving visitors with an air of mystery surrounding its history and significance. This captivating landmark invites exploration and reflection, making it a unique stop for travelers seeking to uncover hidden gems during their journey.
