Moraine Lake, located about 9 miles outside of Lake Louise village in Banff National Park, is a stunning glacier-fed lake known for its distinctive blue-green color. During the summer, the thaw brings out the vibrant beauty of this natural wonder, attracting visitors to explore its hiking trails and take in the breathtaking scenery. The surrounding peaks offer opportunities for hiking and provide panoramic views of the picturesque lake below.
One of the most special, magical and incredible places in the world. The view is just magic. You feel a connection with the place that is hard to explain. The pictures are not great enough to capture the amazing view. About the place: You can explore different trails there to get to know the place. In order to get to the lake you need to take the Oficial shuttle of the park.
Rafael M — Google review
My favourite lake in all of Canada, nothing compares to this incredible shade of blue! It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. This place feels truly special and simply being there is a beautiful reminder of how amazing it is to be alive.
Cristina — Google review
⭐ Spectacular! Moraine lake and the ten peaks. So beautiful it is a MUST visit. No regrets! Some said the view on the morning is stunning with the sun shining on the peaks. Am happy to be there in the late afternoon as it is less crowded. Can walk on the beach but lots of pebbles and stones. Will need to book and take a shuttle to Moraine Lake as it is off limits to vehicles unless staying in the lodge.
Bugwagen — Google review
Decided to walk along the road of Morraine Lake today , weather is sunny and not too cold .The view is stunning ,has flowing river and small water fall ,12 KM walk ,it took us 3 hours to the lake and 4 hours back due to issue related to hiking shoes.
Muhfaziah M — Google review
Amazing lake. No parking lot on the area. You should take the shuttle from the Louise Lake or the sky resort. Purchase shuttle tickets in advance.
Luciano R — Google review
Absolutely stunning lake with crystal clear blue waters. Arriving early is going to give you the best views and allow you to enjoy the scenery without the crowds. Can be a little difficult to figure out the Park Canada Shuttle but recommend Moraine Lake first in the morning. The 2 day advance shuttle tickets are a great way for late planners to join the fun.
Victor W — Google review
Beautiful and magical place! You can enjoy a peaceful ambient with fresh air. Unfortunately the kayaking company there charges you a fortune ($160 USD).
John B — Google review
You need to book transportation here in advance. I recommend booking through a third party as tickets with park Canada goes really fast. Despite it being extremely busy it is worth the visit. It’s so beautiful it’s a must stop for sure.

Hiking Trails
Johnston Canyon is a popular day hiking trail in Banff National Park, known for its stunning blue waterfalls and unique pathways that cling to the cliffside. The hike is accessible year-round, offering different experiences depending on the season. Visitors can explore the Lower Johnston Falls, which covers 1.1 km of fairly flat ground. The canyon features limestone cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and cliffside catwalks along Johnston Creek.
My hike through Johnston Canyon was simply fantastic. The route is exceptionally well-maintained, with sturdy catwalks and bridges that allow you to get up close to the incredible scenery without feeling unsafe. The views along the way are spectacular, with the waterfalls thundering through the narrow canyon. The real gems of the hike are the fabulous Upper Falls and, for those who continue on, the beautiful Ink Pots. Reaching the Ink Pots is a bit more of a challenge, but the serene, naturally colored pools are a truly unique reward that makes the extra effort completely worth it. This hike offers a great physical challenge that is both fun and rewarding, even for those who might not be experienced hikers. It's accessible enough for most, but challenging enough to feel like a real accomplishment. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a memorable and beautiful experience in Banff National Park.
Florin M — Google review
We did the hike from Johnston Canyon all the way to the Inkpots, and it was an unforgettable experience. The trail through the canyon is well-maintained and offers breathtaking views of waterfalls and dramatic rock formations. The catwalks built into the canyon walls make for a unique hiking experience. Once you pass the Upper Falls, the trail becomes quieter and more natural, leading to the serene Inkpots — beautiful turquoise pools bubbling from underground springs, surrounded by open meadows and mountain views. It’s a peaceful spot to rest and soak in the scenery before heading back. The full hike took us about 4–5 hours round trip at a relaxed pace with plenty of photo stops. Highly recommend starting early to beat the crowds at the canyon and enjoy the tranquility of the Inkpots.
Ananta P — Google review
Hiked with my gf to the lower and upper falls. We went on a Tuesday afternoon in November and it wasn’t too busy. We were able to take our time and just enjoy the walk and stop at the different view points as we pleased. It did get busier as we were walking back around 330pm. The trail was a little slippery in some spots but manageable. Definitely not a problem if you have cleats
M C — Google review
Definitely worth your time! Easy hiking trail (paved). You can hike up to 1 or 2 waterfalls (same trail) and take a longer hike. The 2 waterfalls are stunning and viewable from bottom and top. Great and beautiful hike, free parking and free access. (videos available on our YT channel)
Bastiaan F — Google review
This trail is such a lovely way to spend a few hours outdoors. The path winds through the canyon with the sound of rushing water always nearby, making it a peaceful and refreshing walk. There are two beautiful waterfalls along the way — one lower and one upper. The full route through the canyon is about 5.5 - 6 km, you may choose to visit just the lower falls for a shorter 2–5 km hike. The upper falls are absolutely worth the extra effort — a rewarding finish to a scenic and relaxing adventure in nature.
Jeremie M — Google review
Johnson Canyon (Upper and Lower Falls) is very popular, so you’ll see a lot of tourists, and the views are pretty good. But if you’re able to, I highly recommend continuing the hike to the Ink Pots. It’s only about 3-4 km farther, and the scenery up there feels like heaven. Just don’t forget to bring ice cleats, because the trail can get extremely slippery.
Itz C — Google review
This hike was amazing! The parking lot was pretty packed but there were open spots in each row and the bathrooms were clean. We came at around 4 and there were still a LOT of people. The trip has 3 main destinations- lower falls, upper falls, and the ink pods. We went all the way to the I’ll pods and the trip was about 12km(7.5 miles) there and back. The views were breathtaking and even some postcard worthy pictures. Highly recommend
Maxim G — Google review
We arrived to the park around 9am and parking was plentiful. The park paths are well maintained and the waterfalls are amazing! Such a beautiful park. Then we continued on to the Ink Pots and the scene was stunning. The path to the Ink Pots has a bit more elevation. You may need more time to get there and back.

Lake Minnewanka, located just minutes from the town of Banff, is the longest lake in the Canadian Rockies at 28 kilometers. Visitors can enjoy picnics, hiking, and mountain biking along its northern shores. A guided boat cruise offers a unique perspective of the lake's beauty and shares its intriguing history, including the submerged summer village of Minnewanka Landing. The area is also rich in wildlife, with opportunities to spot moose, black bears, and elk.
Lake Minnewanka is so beautiful, with this fantastic water color, and this scenic Rockies view. We are paddle board lovers, so my pictures are most taken during paddling. It has a good parking lot, but you should get there early, because it gets full pretty easy. Next time we go there, we will explore the trails.
Arianna C — Google review
Beautiful lake with amazing colorful mountains surrounding the lake. Wildlife are often seen near or around the lake. This is a huge tourist attraction as there is a boat launch where you can take boat rides around the lake. The drive up to Lake Minnewanka is stunning in the fall when all the leaves are in full color. There are trails for walking, rocks for sitting and soaking in the beauty. One of the must visits when in the Banff area.
S G — Google review
Spending a day at the lake was a refreshing escape from the rush of daily life. The calm water mirrored the blue sky like glass, creating a picture so serene it almost didn’t feel real. Gentle waves lapped against the wooden dock, and every sound — from birds calling across the water to the rustling trees — blended into a natural symphony that melted away stress. What stood out most was the feeling of balance: moments of silence followed by laughter as families paddled by in canoes or kids skipped stones near the shore. The air felt cleaner, cooler, and full of life. Sitting close to the edge, I could see tiny fish darting through the shallows, while sunlight flickered on the surface like silver sparks. Whether walking along the path, taking photos of the sunset, or simply sitting still, the lake offered something rare — genuine stillness. As the evening came, golden light touched the treetops and the reflection deepened into shades of amber and blue. It was the kind of view that made you pause and breathe differently, aware of how healing simple beauty can be. Overall, my visit to the lake felt like a quiet reset button for the mind and soul. It reminded me that peace doesn’t always require distance — sometimes it’s waiting beside the water, asking only that you stop long enough to notice.
Pilai W — Google review
Wow!! Boat ride worth the travel and price! We were there the last weekend (11-13 oct 25) the boat was not pack like summer, it snowed the day before so was a little chilly but fine. Poor girls ( captain and guide) they told us that on the last day, they have to jump in the lake, its a tradition !! We also did one of the trail, amazing view, please bring bear spray and have at least a group of 4 for some trail.. we did not encounter any but with the snow the urgency of finding food become an obsession.. be aware
Caty J — Google review
Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park is a beautiful getaway that’s surprisingly welcoming for dogs — as long as you follow the rules. The trail and day-use areas offer stunning views of the glacial lake framed by rugged mountain ridges, making it a scenic and peaceful experience for both you and your furry friend. One of the best things about visiting with a dog is simply walking along the lakeshore: there are quiet spots to stop, take photos, or enjoy a picnic. The clean, well-maintained trail makes it accessible for a relaxing stroll without feeling too wild. But be careful — during the summer (from July 10 to September 15), dogs are not allowed beyond Stewart Canyon on the Lake Minnewanka Trail. When your dog is permitted, they must be kept on a leash and under physical control at all times. This rule protects wildlife like bears and elk — and it’s enforced by Parks Canada. Also, make sure to pick up and properly dispose of their waste. Be aware that there is a real wildlife risk: bears have been spotted along the trail, and advisories recommend keeping pets close and carrying bear spray if you’re exploring. Overall, Lake Minnewanka is a fantastic spot to bring your dog — provided you stay on leash, respect seasonal trail restrictions, and treat the area responsibly.
Upi — Google review
Very picturesque, laid back and peaceful. The boat ride was well worth going on. The lake looks beautiful, we were so lucky to have had the weather on our side.
Joe M — Google review
I went on a stargazing tour and visited this lake, and it was absolutely stunning at night! You could see so many stars! It was one of those once in a lifetime opportunities for me, and I was greatful to be able to grab a few beautiful pictures of the night sky! I also went on a boat tour, and was able to capture the beauty of the lake as well!
Regina A — Google review
One of my absolute favourite spots in Banff!! The views are unreal and there’s so much to do around the lake!! Probably my favourite spot to go swimming as well…if you can brave the cold!

Cave and Basin National Historic Site is a significant landmark in Canada, as it was the birthplace of the country's national parks system. Discovered by railway workers in 1883, this site offers interactive exhibits that showcase Canada's network of protected places. Visitors can take guided tours of the original cave to learn about its history and culture, including lantern tours for an after-dark experience.
Staff is Very Friendly! They invited and showed us how to play hockey games even in the cold weather, and explain the situation of the ecological environment in the Basin. We had a lot of fun there!Thank you! The trail along the site is also recommended! It is a winter wonderland ❤️
Yuan Y — Google review
The Cave and Basin National Historic Site is an interesting place to visit, especially if you’re into history and learning about the origins of Canada’s national parks. The cave itself is unique, and the bubbling thermal waters are cool to see. However, the site is relatively small, and there isn’t a ton to do after you’ve explored the main features. Worth a visit if you’re nearby.
Abdullah S — Google review
This is a great park and exhibit area. There are some really cool signs before entering the cave inside which was amazing. Beware that you need to duck, and it really smells bad. Walking up to the springs on the hill is also really cool. Another great thing here is the Marsh Trail. This is a well rounded and unique and cool experience.
E B — Google review
It was an amazing experience visiting this place and reading about how the national parks came to be in Canada. So much information is shared in the exhibits. The hot spring cave was pretty amazing to see as well. The exhibits and displays conveyed a great story of how the site was formed and how it was converted to a national historic site. Definitely recommend visiting the place with kids and helping them understand a bit of history of the land these national forests came to be from.
Srivalli Y — Google review
A fascinating experience with a rich history. There may not be a lot to it but a quick visit to the cave and hot water basin is worth your time. The park staff is exceptional, friendly, and helpful. Be advised, DO NOT purchase admission online from TripAdvisor or any other vendor. All you get is a self guided audio tour around the area not admission to the park itself. This is deceitful advertising. To add insult to injury, our 'tour' was scheduled for October 16th, a day the park was closed.
Brock W — Google review
It was very impressive. It smelled amazing because it smelled so strong. It seemed like a miracle that there was a creature like a snail here. It was believed that this sulfur hot spring was really good water for healing. If there was a private spa, I would have wanted to experience it, but unfortunately, only public baths existed.
M P — Google review
It was an interesting visit to the Cave and Basin National Historic Site. This is the birthplace of National Parks across Canada. The cave and hot springs are unique but has a strong smell of sulphur and we all know that sulfurous compounds are smelly. There are lots of educational information about the history of the hot spring and the town. You also get a stunning view of the mountains from the deck area.
Alice W — Google review
Historic museum dedicated to the hot springs history of the area While it’s a cool museum, I’d only recommend it if you have a lot of spare time and covered entry under the parks pass. The hot springs and the unique snails here are unique but there’s so much more nature in other areas of Banff. There’s a really cool preserved cave / hot springs area inside the museum.

Peyto Lake is a stunning glacier-fed lake located in a picturesque valley, renowned for its vibrant turquoise waters. Situated along the Icefields Parkway, it offers breathtaking views and ample photo opportunities. The best spot to capture its beauty is from Bow Summit, the highest point on the parkway, although it can get crowded during peak times. For a more secluded experience, take one of the trails leading up the mountain from Bow Summit car park.
This lake is just wow.. It is very beautiful lake. Hike is also easy, it’s paved so clean, kid friendly as well. View from top of the lake is spectacular. Washrooms are available in parking lot however to get parking spot is a challenge as too many visitors. Early visit is better to get parking and also nice pics of lake and yourself.
Navneet S — Google review
Peyto Lake is an absolutely mesmerizing lake, with a brilliant turquoise colour that looks beautiful in any season. The main viewpoint is a very short hike from the parking lot. You can also hike down to the lake, but is harder than the viewpoint. The atmosphere is unforgettable whether it’s foggy, snowing, raining, or sunny.
Harry H — Google review
Beautiful view. Easy short hike. For best view, go there in the late morning or early afternoon before the sun goes behind the mountain and shadow the mountain covers the lake.
Gazi M — Google review
The trail was a very steep trail but easy very short hike, its a bit challenging for new trailblazers so recommend support or slow route option. Definitely worth the view, look is so blue and pretty and shaped like a wolf.
Ramneek ( — Google review
This is without a doubt one of the most beautiful lakes in Alberta and in all of Canada. The short hike to the viewpoint is absolutely worth it, offering stunning scenery and photo opportunities. It can get quite busy, so it’s best to arrive early to fully enjoy the experience in peace.
Cristina — Google review
I loved Peyto more than Lake Louise. Blue water surrounded by mountains was breathtaking. Pretty normal hike (<1km) that leads to the deck to view this beauty. Parking available.

Peyto Lake was one of the most beautiful lakes I visited during my trip to Banff and Jasper. The short hike up to the viewpoint was absolutely worth it — the turquoise color of the lake is breathtaking and looks almost unreal. A must-see stop if you’re exploring the Icefields Parkway!

Bow Lake, located within Banff National Park, is a picturesque spot formed by the runoff of the Bow Glacier. The area offers various activities such as hiking and enjoying a meal at the historic Lodge at Bow Lake. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the lakeshore, particularly towards Bow Glacier Falls, which provides stunning views across the turquoise water.
such a breathtaking spot! The water is incredibly blue, and the scenery makes it feel almost magical. I was lucky enough to attend my friends’ wedding here, and it was truly majestic to witness such a memorable event in such a beautiful location. There’s a cozy coffee shop nearby, along with souvenirs and even a lodge if you want to stay longer. I didn’t get the chance to walk the trail since I wasn’t dressed for it, but I definitely plan to come back and explore more when I can. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area!

A gorgeous lake with stunning views year round. Each season offers something different. Quite peaceful and serene in the winter, vibrant in the summer. Atmosphere is beautiful, definitely worth a stop.
Harry H — Google review
Beautiful lake that perhaps has a less dramatic viewpoint than Peyto Lake but still worth a visit. Do note that it is more difficult to get out to the lakeshore when it’s wet as the foreshore area turns into mud.
John L — Google review
It's a really nice lake, even if it's not as well-known as Louise or Moraine. Definitely worth checking out, but the parking and facilities weren't great.
SaBa A — Google review
Alberta has many big and beautiful lakes. Lake Bow is also a great lake! It gives me relaxation and comfort. I recommend you to go if you have a chance.
A.P — Google review
Personally, I prefer Bow Lake to Lake Louise. Bow Lake has fewer people, offering a peaceful and serene atmosphere amidst beautiful natural surroundings. It’s only about a 30-minute drive from Lake Louise to Bow Lake, making it a worthwhile destination. If you enjouy hiking, there are several impressive trails, such as my favorite trails, The Onion and Iceberg Lake.
Wilson L — Google review
Bow Lake is one of the largest lakes in Banff National Park. Laying at the base of Bow Summit, you can observe beautiful mountain scales set with this gorgeous lake. Bow lodge, once a private residence and sold in 1996, has a “Provisions” area and small patio where you can enjoy a sandwich, coffee or dessert. They have a parking lot and it’s a very short walk to the lake.
Onthegoboomer — Google review
Easily reached by car with roadside parking and a viewing platform Bow Lake is a must-stop for any Icefields Parkway journey. Its striking glacial colors, peaceful atmosphere, and accessibility make it ideal for both brief visits and extended exploration. Whether you’re snapping a quick photo, paddling the turquoise water, or hiking toward the glacier, it’s a highlight that outshines its roadside appearance.

Banff Upper Hot Springs is a historic thermal mineral springs located in Banff National Park, Canada. The hot springs were discovered in the late 1880s and have since become a popular destination for visitors seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. Situated at an elevation of over 5,000ft in the Rocky Mountains, the natural pool offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
We went in early summer in June. It was pretty hot day so we were sitting on the edges. It would be nice if they could have a colder pool to cool off on hot days. The swimsuit drying machine didn’t work which was a bummer. However, its a very cool experience. It is first come first serve so be there early. Gondola is a street down so if you can plan accordingly can go right after. They have a family price for 2 adults and 2 children which was nice and lockers come with the cost. You will need to bring your towels and swimsuit or pay extra. The view is amazing

We really enjoyed the hot springs. The whole family even our little ones said they felt better and their skin felt less dry after spending time in the baths. We did forget to bring our water bottles up and hydration is important when you're sitting in that heat. It was not too full when we visited on a Friday afternoon. The views are amazing all around while you relax in the pool. The only negative was the high cost for a family of 6. We were once again discriminated against for having too many kids. The "family" pass only covered 4 people. Well, we have 4 young kids, so we had to pay over $70 to go sit in the bath. We were given 6 locker tokens though, as if our 7 and 10 year olds needed their own locker. Felt like another globalist led attack against "the family unit". Maybe Parks Canada can look at this and aim for a bit more fairness for families. Also, no Jr Ranger anything available at the NP Historic Site.

Fun place to visit for a few minutes but detractors include an extremely large crowd, limited shade, and it's not a very big pool for the number of visitors that are here. Views are good and the pool is warm. It's best not to bring anything in the pool area as there is extremely limited space to store anything. This includes water bottles, towels, watches, etc. Bring your phone if you want to grab a few pictures.
Victor W — Google review
It was okay, there’s just one pool and it was quite crowded when we went. The day was very hot, so we mostly sat on the sides, and a thunderstorm ended up closing the pool for safety. They did offer rain checks to those who had only just arrived, which was nice. The women’s locker room swimsuit dryer was out of order, but overall the facilities are good. I think it would probably be a much better experience in the winter.
Roseanne — Google review
Went for a muscle soak after walking up Sulphur mountain. Quite expensive as we only stayed about 30 minutes because it was so hot. Had to exit 2 or 3 times and cold shower to cool off (I know that's the whole point). Quite busy, even at midday in high season. Would be lovely early on, or perhaps later in the afternoon, especially if it's cold outside. Great views!
Andrea C — Google review
Opinion seems to be divided on this one! It’s basically a thermal pool with a view. It’s not a spa experience like the Blue Lagoon or the Thermae Spa in Bath so anyone looking for that would be disappointed. I like a soak in a hot pool so really enjoyed it and I liked the retro vibe. I went at about 10.45 on a drizzly Saturday morning. It was busy but no queue to get in. People tend to sit round the edge of the pool but it’s reasonably easy to find a spot and the atmosphere is quite chilled. It’s not expensive. I got a senior rate and paid just over £10 for admission, bus each way from downtown and towel hire. You can bring flip flops for the poolside but I didn’t use them as the floor was clean and non slippy. As other reviewers have said the staff are really nice. There’s a little cafe upstairs - very similar to swimming pool cafes in England.

Just one big hot tub. Beautiful views! Fun experience but not a must do. Full at opening but quieted down around noon. Easy parking and change rooms. Dining inside (did not eat there but nice that there is the ability). Bring your own towels or rent onsite. Swimsuits also available to rent. $17.50 for adult admission is reasonable for the experience.

A great way to spend the afternoon after hiking and touring around Banff. Unfortunately it's just one pool but the views make up for it.

Bow Falls is a wide and short waterfall located near The Fairmont Banff Springs, just before the confluence of the Bow and Spray rivers. The Bow River plunges over sloping limestone ledges, creating a local landmark that offers excellent perspectives of crashing gray-green water. Visitors can take in the view from the Bow Falls Trail, which runs along the river and provides benches for relaxation. Across the river at Surprise Corner, there's an ideal spot for capturing picturesque photos of this natural wonder.
Bow Falls is a beautiful spot and definitely worth a visit if you’re in Banff. It is surrounded by stunning mountain views which creates an amazing setting. It’s a great place for a short walk and to sit and enjoy nature. While it’s not a massive waterfall, the scenery and tranquility make up for it.

Beautiful, cascading falls close to the Banff Springs Hotel. Easy walk from anywhere in town along the Bow River Trail. I highly recommend walking the entire Bow River Trail when you go. It has spectacular scenery of all the surrounding mountains with well done art walk along the way.

It's nice and neat to see the rock under the water and hotel. You can get good photos from either side of the falls. There are better falls though but good to see if your in Banff for the day.
Lucas F — Google review
So cool to walk along the art walk on our way to the falls! There were tons of people around but nothing ever felt crowded because there’s so much space. A beautiful place you gotta see!
Jen S — Google review
Great parking space. It got chilly and windy but the falls was so far the widest though shortest I’ve seen. The sound of the falls just couldn’t be beat regardless! Great stop!
MC S — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bow Falls is an absolute gem that showcases the natural beauty of Banff without requiring a strenuous hike. Located just a short walk from the Banff Springs Hotel, these cascading falls offer stunning views year-round, though they're particularly impressive during spring runoff when the water volume is at its peak. The paved pathway makes it accessible for visitors of all ages and mobility levels, which is wonderful for families. The viewing areas provide excellent photo opportunities, especially with the iconic Banff Springs Hotel creating a dramatic backdrop. The sound of rushing water creates a peaceful atmosphere that's perfect for a moment of reflection. While not as towering as some of the region's other waterfalls, Bow Falls has a charm all its own. The wide, multi-tiered cascade creates beautiful patterns in the rock, and the surrounding forest adds to the scenic appeal. It's an ideal spot for a quick nature break if you're staying in town or exploring the Bow River area. The only minor drawback is that it can get quite busy during peak tourist season, so early morning or late afternoon visits tend to be more peaceful. Despite the crowds, it remains a must-see attraction that captures the essence of the Canadian Rockies in an easily accessible setting.
Ramdas M — Google review
Easy enough walk from & back to Banff Centre. Lovely outdoor art installations by local Bow Valley artists, part of the 'Art in Nature Trail' on display along the trail.

★★★★★ A stunning natural wonder just minutes from downtown Banff! Bow Falls is an absolute gem—an easy-to-access, breathtaking spot that showcases the raw beauty of the Rockies. The powerful cascade of water, set against a backdrop of towering mountains and pine forests, is a sight to behold. You can hear the roar of the falls before you even see them, and once you do, it’s mesmerizing. The walking trails around the falls are scenic and well-maintained, offering great viewpoints for photos and peaceful moments by the river. It’s a perfect stop for all ages—whether you’re looking for a short stroll, a photo op, or a quiet place to soak in nature. Its location so close to Banff townsite makes it super convenient, yet it still feels like a wild, untamed corner of nature. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning again, Bow Falls never fails to impress. A must-see when in Banff!

Had a great time at the gallery. The glacier exhibit of photographs is stunning. The founders' gallery downstairs is a quaint spot to look at paintings. The Banff history exhibits are well done and informative. Book and art shop has a plentiful selection. Good bathrooms. Will have to return for the tour of the site's heritage buildings.

Small, interesting museum in Banff featuring the art of the indigenous people. It also has a heritage section that captures the history related to the local area and its National parks. Entry fee for adults is $15 and the museum can be covered in half an hour.

Not sure why people are saying the museum is too small..... if you actually stop and read all the information you can spend at least 2h there! Most people I saw just walk around not reading a single info panel. Absolutely loved it. Learnt so much about the Rockies history! Definitely recommended if you're in the area.

Bodies of Water
Vermilion Lakes, located in the Vermilion Valley near the entrance of Banff National Park, offer a convenient and picturesque setting for outdoor activities. Accessible by car, these lakes are popular among families and beginners looking to enjoy kayaking or canoeing without embarking on long hikes. Surrounded by mountains and trees, the serene lakes provide stunning reflections of the peaks.
I loved my visit to Vermilion Lakes — it’s such a peaceful escape with stunning views of the mountains reflected perfectly in the calm water. It felt like a hidden gem just minutes from downtown Banff. The area has several easy walking trails along the lakeshore that are perfect for a relaxing stroll or wildlife spotting. I saw ducks, geese, and even a few curious deer nearby. It’s great for photography, especially early in the morning or at sunset when the light is magical and the reflections are crystal clear. There are picnic spots too, so it’s a lovely place to bring snacks and just soak in the natural beauty. If you’re into kayaking or canoeing, you might find rentals nearby to explore the lakes from the water. A few tips from my visit: • Bring insect repellent, especially in warmer months — mosquitoes can be pretty active near the water. • Wear comfortable shoes for walking the trails. • The parking lot can fill up quickly on busy days, so try to get there early. • Don’t forget your camera — the views are spectacular from almost every angle. Whether you want a quiet place to relax, a nature walk, or some beautiful photos, Vermilion Lakes is a must-see when you’re in Banff. I’ll definitely be back!

Vermilion Lakes is a peaceful and picturesque spot just minutes from Banff. The views of Mount Rundle reflecting on the water are absolutely stunning, especially at sunrise or sunset. It’s easy to access, with scenic pullouts along the road, and a great place for photography, a quiet walk, or just to sit and enjoy the calm. In winter, the frozen lake is just as magical. The Banff Gondola offers a serene ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. At the summit, visitors can stroll out to a grassy bluff overlooking Banff town and marvel at the majestic mountains. The gondola ascends in just eight minutes, leading to observation decks and boardwalks at the peak. Additionally, guests can enjoy dining at Sky Bistro, an upscale restaurant with stunning mountain vistas.
The Banff Gondola is absolutely worth the ride. The views as you ascend Sulphur Mountain are breathtaking, and once at the top, the panorama of Banff, the Bow Valley, and surrounding peaks is unforgettable. The boardwalk along the ridge is easy and offers different vantage points—every few steps feels like a new postcard shot. The visitor center at the summit is modern and well designed, with interactive exhibits, a rooftop observation deck, and a café/restaurant where you can sit and take in the scenery. It’s family-friendly, and you can spend anywhere from an hour to half a day exploring, depending on how much walking you want to do. If possible, go at sunset—the colors over the mountains are magical. The gondola is a bit pricey, but the experience and views make it worthwhile.

Must Go when in Banff! Great activity with kids!! Super easy hike! I was with my 2 little ones in June. Amazing views all around! May not be wheelchair friendly for the hike but still see the view from the building! Super clean, easy, and safe! If you get lucky you will see some animals!! Highly Recommend for anyone and families!

Loved this! The gondola ride was great. The view from the top is amazing! The actual trails at the top were closed when visited but there was still space and short trail to walk at the top to enjoy the view. There also an outdoor restaurant at the top. Small line to enter the gondola ride but moved quickly. The staff were also really friendly. Would recommend checking ticket prices online and if trails are open prior to going.

The Banff Gondola is one of the most iconic experiences in the Canadian Rockies, offering breathtaking panoramic views and exceptional opportunities for photography. Located just a short drive from downtown Banff, the gondola takes visitors to the summit of Sulphur Mountain, where six mountain ranges unfold in every direction. The journey itself lasts only a few minutes, but the scenery evolves dramatically as you ascend — from dense evergreen forests to rugged alpine peaks. At the top, photographers will find a series of viewing platforms and the Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk, a scenic trail leading to the Cosmic Ray Station. Every step along this ridge provides a new composition — sweeping valleys, glacial rivers, and the charming town of Banff nestled far below. The light changes quickly at this altitude, making sunrise and sunset particularly magical times to visit. The summit complex, known as the Banff Gondola Upper Terminal, features indoor observation decks, interpretive exhibits, and a rooftop terrace perfect for wide-angle landscape shots. For those who enjoy combining photography with fine dining, the Sky Bistro offers spectacular window views alongside locally inspired cuisine. Winter adds another dimension to the experience: snow-covered peaks, soft golden light, and the contrast of white landscapes against deep blue skies. In summer, the air is crisp and clear, revealing endless layers of the Rockies — a dream setting for both casual photographers and professionals. The Banff Gondola is more than just a ride — it’s an invitation to see the Canadian Rockies from their most majestic angle. Whether you’re capturing vast landscapes, dramatic skies, or intimate mountain details, this location rewards every photographer with unforgettable imagery.

The 2200 foot climb with 2- 4 seat gondola cabins is a must do on any bucket list. There are 3 restaurants at the top. A cafe with plenty of eats and bevies, a buffet style restaurant with an amazing aray of food items and desserts, and the Sky Bistro. The reward at the top are the stunning mountain views. I encourage you to take the boardwalk to the peak. Dress appropriately and proper footwear suggested.
Kerry K — Google review
The Banff Gondola is pure magic — an experience that makes you feel on top of the world (literally). From the moment the gondola lifts off, you’re rising above the trees, watching the valleys and peaks open up below you. The ride is smooth and surprisingly quick, but the views unfold like a movie — every angle more breathtaking than the last. At the top, you’re standing at one of the highest accessible points in Canada, with panoramic views that truly make you feel small in the best way possible. Snow-capped peaks, endless forests, crisp mountain air — it’s nature showing off. Tips for travelers: • Bring layers — it’s much colder and windier at the summit than at the base. • Take your time at the top. There are walking paths and lookout platforms that are worth every step. • Even if you’ve seen photos online, nothing compares to being there in person. This isn’t just a ride; it’s an essential Banff experience. If you want to see the Canadian Rockies in their full glory, the gondola is a must. 📍 Banff Gondola — a ride to the sky, and a memory you’ll never forget. #MichelleGoesGlobal

The gondola ride was so beautiful to see the views while riding up was amazing! I am afraid of heights so it was a little scary lol but I was so glad I did it! The views were worth it and getting to the top and hiking sulfur mountain was an experience to remember! It was sprinkling and the sun was out there was a rainbow. It was so incredible! When we got to the top of the mtn the rain turned into snow flurries it was so pretty. It didn't take long to hike and seeing the areas we went to the days prior was super cool to see from this view. Once we got back to the Gondola area the views from the skydeck was pretty and there was a station to color a post card, which was a fun experience with my daughter. We then had dinner at the Sky Bistro, which was a must. Def make reservations ahead of time cause you don't want to miss the amazing food! This whole experience is a must if you are visiting Banff National Park!

The Banff Park Museum National Historic Site, located at 92 Banff Avenue in Alberta, Canada, is a significant landmark that showcases the country's early approach to natural history and conservation. Housed in a rustic log building constructed in 1895, the museum features over 5,000 vintage specimens of plants, minerals, and animals associated with Banff National Park. The collection includes stuffed animals, geological finds, and an extensive library.
This museum turned out to be one of the best places I have visited for anyone interested in nature and wildlife. What makes it special is the way it presents the animals of the region in such a complete and impressive way. The collection includes everything from plants and insects to mammals and birds, all carefully preserved through taxidermy. Walking through the exhibits gives you a real sense of the diversity of life in the area, and seeing the animals in their actual size and form was both educational and fascinating. The wooden interior and overall design of the museum add to the natural atmosphere, making the space feel warm and inviting. It’s not just about displays it feels like a step closer to understanding the environment and the creatures that live in it. Another highlight is that there is no admission fee. Entry is completely free, which makes it very accessible for everyone. At the entrance, the staff were welcoming and helpful, taking the time to explain the basic rules for visitors. This created a positive first impression and made the visit smooth and enjoyable. We really enjoyed spending time here, taking photos, and learning more about the local wildlife. It’s also an excellent spot for children, since they can see animals up close in a way that books or screens can’t offer. Overall, I highly recommend this museum to families, tourists, and anyone curious about the natural world. It was a truly rewarding experience.
Gelareh G — Google review
A small museum near downtown with an interesting variety of local subjects covered. The largest subject seemed to be the local wildlife. It was interesting how they included the animals' environment of a few animals and may have influenced them - a very good idea, which should be expanded. The second subject covered global warming, which had a section just for it. Thought it was very well done, making it interesting without being overly scientific. The building itself was historical. There's not much on museums, but this was nice to see on a local level.

Banff Park Museum is a must-visit gem in Banff National Park! Housed in a beautiful historic log building, this museum offers a fascinating look at Western Canada’s natural history with over 5,000 vintage specimens, from stuffed bears to unique minerals. The interactive exhibits and Xplorers Club activities were a hit with our kids, making it a fun and educational stop. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The only downside was that it felt a bit small, and we wished for more modern displays. Still, a great experience for the price, and we’d definitely return!

Cute and charming little museum dedicated to stuffed animals and local wildlife. Some of their oldest bird specimens date back to the 1860s, which is amazing to see up close. There’s a small admission fee, but it’s absolutely worth it to help support the local parks and preserve the area’s natural history.

It was an interesting museum. The museum displays the wildlife of Canada and you can see many species that can be difficult to spot in their natural habitat. I liked the owls display. Also the building itself is a lovely building. This place is a great place for kids and those who are interested in animals.
Hooman T — Google review
Has to be seen to be believed. To see specimens of such a huge range of wildlife over 100 years old was incredible. Even the 120 year old display cases were wonderful to look at. Highly recommended.
Darren D — Google review
Wandered in just past 3PM, and was told I had the rare opportunity to have the guided tour at 3:30PM. So I wandered around in the museum, which despite its size has quite a few things on display. It's essentially a taxidermy display of animals that roamed (or at least at some point) the surrounding areas. At 4.50$ for an adult, it isn't exactly pricey and the sign at the entrance said it was actually free for year pass holders, though unfortunately I didn't have it on me. The building is a work of art, both inside and outside and is a rare survivor of its time and style. The guided tour was great, and provided a lot more insight into the history of how the place came to be as well as a minor intro into taxidermy. I was told the tour was only two days per year or so, but all of the staff I talked to were very eager to help answer any question you might have. So don't hesitate to ask stuff. All staff were extremely knowledgeable about a great variety of topics. Things to look out for: - a very chunky beaver - botched avian pedicures - a nearly beheaded pelican - the US custom stamps on some displays - the adorable staff member Claire who made my day
Justin D — Google review
This little piece of history is right in the centre of the town of Banff. It is an original architectural delight of wooden construction built in the beginning of the 1900's. Although the displays are minimal compared to today's standard, the history it reflects, along with its displays are still relevant. I'm sure this would have really been something to witness in its heyday. Plenty of staff on hand. Unfortunately, no Jr Ranger programs available due to ironically, lack of funds, according to a staff member. The place is teeming with people overpaying for everything so I did find that comment somewhat laughable.

The Bow Valley Parkway offers a scenic and leisurely drive between Banff and Lake Louise, spanning 60 kilometers. This route provides stunning views and serves as an alternative to Highway 1. Along the way, travelers can access the trailhead for Johnston Canyon, a popular hike in Banff National Park. Pitstops include Wild Flour Bakery for breakfast and opportunities for wildlife spotting. However, it's important to remain in your vehicle while observing wildlife.
Bow Valley Parkway is one of the highlights of my trip to the Rockies. The drive is beautiful. Some stunning vistas along the way. We were lucky to see a grizzly, a black bear and an elk within an hour. Take your time on this road. If you’re lucky you’ll get some lifelong memories!

A lovely scenic drive from Lake Louise, but snowy rainy weather obscured the mountains a fair bit. We got as far as Johnston canyon but the remainder of the road was closed for bicycles only until June, sadly. We didn't see any wildlife either. Some of our drive was in sunshine but it started snowing close to Banff. It would have been nice to have driven the full length of the road.

Tunnel Mountain, located in Banff National Park, is the smallest summit in the region and offers a variety of hiking trails suitable for beginners. Despite its easy incline, hikers can enjoy stunning views of the Bow and Spray River valleys, Banff Springs Golf Course, and Banff Hot Springs on Sulphur Mountain. The highway that crosses the mountain provides a scenic drive and serves as the main access route to Banff.
We loved this hike but I wouldn’t say it was “easy.” While we saw many younger people stride by us, the steep switchbacks were very much felt in our knees and the trip down was a lot of strain on our knees but we loved it. The views from the top of this 5,532 ft mountain were spectacular and you can see all of Banff town center, the Fairmont, beautiful Bow River and more. At one point in the trail you are almost parallel to an adjacent mountain and it’s very exciting to be that close. They have two Adirondack chairs at the top. No washrooms so be sure to go before your hike.

We hiked Tunnel Mountain Summit for the first time and were truly amazed! The views are stunning, and the trail is well-maintained with a pleasant mix of rock and soft pine needles. It’s an easy, enjoyable hike—perfect for burning some calories while soaking in the scenery. The trail can get busy, as it draws visitors from all over, but it’s absolutely worth it. A real hidden gem in Banff, and so conveniently close to the trailer court. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

This was a terrific hike. We stayed at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge, and walked 15 minutes down the road to the trailhead. The trail is basically a switch back, going back and forth with gentle inclines. This is great for beginners and those who are a little more challenged. Do make sure that you wear decent hiking shoes as there are plenty of loose rocks heading up the hills.

Great hike today to the Tunnel Mountain summit. Beautiful views of the Bow River Valley looking one way and the town of Banff in the other direction. Only 40 minutes to the summit from the upper parking lot.

Great hike up this mountain. There's a bit of unstable ground (rocks and tree roots) that you'll need to look out for. Make sure you have good hiking shoes (no Crocs/sandals). Lots of active people running up and down the mountain. Parking is limited at the mid-point. Lots of cyclists riding though, so ensure you drive carefully.

Lovely family-friendly hike that would have been a great warm-up hike for us at the start of our trip (as opposed to Ha Ling Peak, which was a harrowing endeavor in contrast). We had some issues with parking as Tunnel Mountain Drive was closed for Melissa’s Road Race on the day we did our climb but ultimately figured it out and easily made it to the top for sweeping views of the Banff area, Mount Rundle and the Cascade Mountain.

Tunnel Mountain is one of my favorite spots in Banff! The hike to the summit is relatively easy, making it perfect for all skill levels, including families and casual hikers. The trail winds through beautiful forested areas before opening up to stunning panoramic views of Banff, the Bow Valley, and surrounding peaks like Mount Rundle. I love sitting at the top and just taking in the scenery—it’s peaceful and rejuvenating. The location is very convenient, just a short walk from downtown Banff, so you can enjoy nature without venturing far from town.

The Columbia Icefield Skywalk offers a unique and thrilling experience for visitors. This 1km walkway leads to a glass-floor observation platform that overlooks a 280m drop, providing a bird's eye view of the stunning Sunwapta Valley. Adjacent to the highway, the Columbia Icefield Centre is an activity complex where visitors can learn about glacial mechanics, book tours of the glacier via Ice Explorer vehicles, and explore natural history exhibits.
We visited on a picture Aug 21st. A perfect day. Definitely worth the time and effort to travel there. Maybe one of the top wonders in Canada. Pictures cannot do justice in capturing the prestine beauty and amazing views. Our tour bus driver was very informative, while our tickets were for approximately 1 hour, but you can stay longer and catch another one of the regular return buses. The Glass bridge is a special treat and is kept very clean to maximize the views. There are a couple of restaurants with decent food and would suggest you visit the ice fields and Athabasca river, Cross the street from the main building. That part is a short drive and you can walk up to the glacier. All in all, we had a wonderful experience and worth seeing again.

The Columbia Icefield Skywalk has exactly the same concept as the famous Grand Canyon Skywalk — a glass-floored walkway extending over a canyon. However, this one is much smaller, roughly about one-third the size of the Grand Canyon version. Even though it’s on a smaller scale, it’s extremely well maintained and very clean, which makes it a pleasant experience overall. I wouldn’t describe it as very thrilling or scary, especially if you’ve been to the Grand Canyon Skywalk before. That said, it’s still worth visiting as part of the Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure package, especially if you’re also doing the Glacier tour on the same day. It’s a nice way to round out the experience. We went on a Monday evening, which turned out to be perfect — there were very few people, and we practically had the entire walkway to ourselves. It gave us plenty of time to stroll slowly, enjoy the views, and take photos without feeling rushed. This was a huge contrast to my past experience at the Grand Canyon Skywalk, which was very crowded and hectic. Ticket tip: If you buy tickets for the Skywalk alone, it’s around CAD $50 per person. However, I recommend purchasing a Pursuit Pass or a bundle that includes other attractions, which you can easily find online. If you pre-book online, you can usually get around 20% off, making it a much better deal.

The whole experience was great! Both our drivers on the bus and ice explorer were very social, giving us cool facts, and cracking jokes. On the glacier itself was really cool but the zone we were allowed to go on was pretty small with a lot of people. There was great places to take pictures and even a Canadian flag. The skywalk was my favourite, the little 10 minute walk to the actual skywalk was cool with little facts about animals and plants that are native. The skywalk itself was great but the glass was a little dirty and muddy so it wasn’t the greatest for pictures. Also there were so many people that it was hard to get a good picture with people walking in your way all the time. Besides that it was amazing with the views and views of waterfall down below. It’s a little scary at first but after you’ll feel great about doing it. Highly recommend!
Maxim G — Google review
What a spot! The Skywalk gave us absolutely stunning views — the glass-floor platform hanging over the valley is one of those things you’ll remember. We walked the interpretive trail, took in the rugged landscape, and yes, walking out onto that suspended walkway 918 feet (280 m) above the valley floor was both thrilling and calming. We weren’t actually on the glacier itself, but we still felt like we were right in the heart of the wild. The view of the ice-capped slopes and the surrounding peaks framed by the valley is something you’ll struggle to capture in a photo. All in all: definitely worth doing, especially if you’re visiting the area and want something memorable without a full-blown hike. Just go with your eyes open: pick a less-crowded time if you can, and don’t expect it to replace a full glacier walk.
Jeremie M — Google review
A remarkable experience! Walk on the glacier, and learn about its critical importance and history. Our "Ice Explorer" driver was very knowledgeable, kind and humorous. It was windy, cold and rainy the day we were there, but we still had a fantastic time. Dress for freezing temperatures and wear waterproof boots if you have them. After the ice walk on the glacier, we got onto a bus that took us on an 8 minute ride out to the "Skywalk" where we walked out onto a see-through platform that hangs way out over the canyon. I think from beginning to end, our experience was about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. I would consider this a "must do" when visiting Lake Louise, Banff, or Jasper. They do have RV parking, and an overflow parking lot across the street if the main parking lots get full. I believe they even have overnight RV parking available for a small fee. Enjoy your adventure. I know we will remember ours for our lifetime.

Visited in May 2025. All of the staff I encountered throughout were fantastic and knowledgeable. Especially the young lady who had a little stall with info of all the wildlife (sorry, can't remember your name). The views on offer are incredible. Also visited the glacier which cool. (It's quite slippery - wish I chose more suitable footwear!)

Sunshine Meadows Viewing Deck offers an easy way to access the alpine environment of the Canadian Rockies. Starting at the base of Sunshine Ski hill, visitors can take a gondola to reach the Sunshine Ski village and begin their hike. The area is known for its stunning views, vast wildflower fields in August, and three beautiful lakes.
I've lived in Calgary my entire life and never did this hike in the summer till now. I've skied at the hill in the winter but never realized it was so beautiful in the summer. One of the best view hikes we've ever done. The 3 lakes were spectacular. It is a moderate hike. The cost of the Gondola was $68 / adult.
Sean J — Google review
Summer activity located within the sunshine ski area inside Banff national park. Beautiful high alpine meadow with expansive views and well maintained hiking trails. Visited in early July, taking the gondolas up and an additional chairlift. You get to walk and view a high alpine meadow at around 8000' ASL without having to hike up. The views are expansive and spectacular, it wasn't crowded at all like other nearby attractions at Banff. Do bring a jacket as it can be windy and much colder at the top. Expect to spend about 3 hours here to enjoy the sights and walk around. The gondola and lift takes 30 minute each way and you will want to walk around for 2 hours. There is a basic cafe and washroom at the upper gondolas station. But do not come here for fancy service, come here for the view of high alpine meadow and light hiking. There is a fee for the gondolas ride but you can buy on the spot or online.
Matthew C — Google review
This gondola was fantastic! Much better than the Banff one in my opinion. This experience was longer, included the chair/ski lift, and the gondolas were more spacious as they are actually used for skiing. The views were phenomenal and there were lots of hiking trails at the top. Highly recommend checking this gondola out!

Me and my step son went here for a fun outing this summer. I am pregnant and wanted something that would still captivate us like a hike but not make me carry anything!!! We were not disappointed. A lot of cute chipmunk and pikas. Great views and many trails to take at your own pace.
Justine L — Google review
Gondola ride was so nice and long I really love how everything is preserved and taken cake of surrounding the trails. Although the camera in the deck didnt have enough instructions for us to have a proper photo.
Mcsv — Google review
The visitors center recommend this area. It did not disappoint. The views are great. Really vast, with so many wildflowers (August) and views of peaks far off, not to forget the 3 lakes. It takes a Gondola ride and an open chairlift to get to the viewing deck. At this time (Aug. 12th 2023) it was $65 CAD. Worth every penny. The hike down from the viewing deck is not bad. In a turn of events we could not hike back up to the viewing deck because they were working on the chair lift. So we had to take the other route to the East down to the top of the Gondola. It's much less uphill which is nice after hiking around.
Lydia T — Google review
Absolutely beautiful!! My daughter and I did the grizzly, Laryx loop hike today and we both really enjoyed the whole trip, the gondola and chair lift rides up were fun and the hike was beautiful. Perfect weather and abundant wildflowers and pretty lakes made the hike unforgettable. Easy hike around the lakes and some up hill hiking on the return but nothing too strenuous if reasonably fit. I would not hesitate to recommend sunshine meadows and I will return. Bring bug spray.

By far my favorite place in Banff. The gondola ride to the village and chairlift to the top is the way to go. Plenty of hiking and amazing views all around. Wide open range right on the border of Alberta and BC.

PARK Distillery Restaurant + Bar is a trendy spot in Alberta, offering small-batch spirits and gourmet comfort food in a rustic setting. The restaurant boasts a diverse menu of rotisserie and wood-fired grilled meats, along with unique dishes like cheese and whisky fondue and cornflake pulled pork fingers with maple whisky and bacon dipping sauce. Their cocktails are top-notch, reflecting their expertise in crafting spirits. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a free distillery tour to enhance their experience.
This was honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Canada, and without a doubt it served the best bison burger I have ever had. The burger was perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful, with that unique richness you only get from bison meat. It was truly outstanding and absolutely worth the visit on its own. The restaurant also has its own line of alcoholic drinks, including gin and vodka, which I found really impressive. The gin had a pleasant bitterness balanced with fruity notes, which made it refreshing and unique. Along with that, we enjoyed a well-prepared salad, tasty beer, and a memorable pepper soup made with their vodka that stood out as something special. The atmosphere of the restaurant is another highlight. It has a vibrant yet comfortable vibe that makes the experience even more enjoyable. We were seated on the patio, which had a lively and welcoming energy. Unfortunately, the inside was full and we couldn’t get a table indoors because the restaurant was very busy. My recommendation: if you plan to visit, make sure you reserve in advance. It’s absolutely worth it. For me, this place was a top dining experience and I would call it one of the very best restaurants I’ve tried in Canada.

Make a reservation if you have a group bigger than 5. We had 8. Food was delicious. Reasonably priced for Banff. It was busy. A bit squishy to get around, as you are pretty close to the other tables. Sauces were fresh. Service a little slow as it was so busy! Loud, but it adds character to the atmosphere of the distillery. Bathrooms could be a tad cleaner. Overall, I enjoyed it immensely. This was my last time traveling to Banff. It is so overcrowded. No parking available. I like little stress as possible, and the town was insane. Too busy for me and the family.

Came here twice during our visit to Banff, we came back the second time not only because it was a neat environment however the staff was very friendly! It was truly a good experience and consistent both times! Came here the first night for drinks and the bartenders were very personable and friendly! The drinks were good too, so all around we had an excellent experience. Then on Sunday we got engaged and came here for dinner after our lake tours and had another good experience! The food was excellent, yet again the drinks were good and the environment great! They distill and make spirits here and it’s just a cool spot! We throughly enjoyed this place and the bartender gave us a celebratory shot after hearing of our engagement! We will be back during our next visit and know it’ll be the same!!! Thank you

Food so good we went twice while on vacation! This is a great lowkey spot with excellent house made spirits. Lunch special was totally worth it and the cornbread appetizer is really as good as everyone says. Great atmosphere, location and service!

Such a cool restaurant that also acts as a distillery! I came with friends from out of town and we all loved it 😁 We got the mac n cheese and meat sharing platter and that was enough to get us full. The drinks were also attractive, so we bought the limited edition strawberry gin to try 🍓
Oscar K — Google review
This restaurant is without a doubt one of the top five places to eat in Banff. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is amazing – warm, vibrant, and full of energy. The decor is very tastefully done, combining a stylish indoor space with a comfortable and inviting patio. Whether you want to enjoy the cozy interior or take in the fresh mountain air outside, both options are equally great. The food here was simply outstanding. I can confidently say that the bison burger we tried was the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor, it’s a must-try for anyone visiting. The vodka chili soup was another highlight; hearty, rich, and very unique. On top of that, the restaurant produces its own gin and vodka, which was something truly special. The gin in particular had a bold, slightly fruity flavor with a pleasantly bitter aftertaste that stood out compared to other gins I’ve tried. It paired really well with the meal and added to the overall experience. The salad we ordered was also fresh and well-prepared, a perfect complement to the heavier dishes. The staff were excellent, friendly, attentive, and professional and they really contributed to the positive atmosphere. The only downside is that this place is very popular and usually packed. If you show up during peak hours, be prepared to wait at least an hour, as we did. Some reserved tables seemed to stay empty longer than expected, which was a little frustrating. For this reason, I strongly recommend making a reservation in advance to avoid the wait. Overall, though, this restaurant is a must-visit in Banff. The combination of atmosphere, décor, fantastic food, and unique drinks makes it truly memorable. I will definitely be coming back!

Located in Banff National Park, the Lake Louise Ski Resort & Summer Gondola is a large year-round recreational destination with numerous activities, dining options, and shops. Nestled in the Canadian Rockies, it offers stunning views and diverse terrain for skiers of all levels. With 139 ski runs and a lift capacity of over 14,000 skiers per hour, it's a popular spot for skiing and snowboarding events.
The Lake Louise Summer Gondola is a fantastic way to enjoy panoramic views of the Rockies without a strenuous hike. I recommend riding in the open seats during summer to fully experience the fresh air and scenic vistas. While I didn’t spot any wildlife during my ride up or down, the view from the top is still incredible. Once you reach the summit, there’s an easy trail that winds down, offering more amazing perspectives of the mountains and valley below. It’s a relaxing and visually rewarding experience, perfect for photographers and anyone who wants to enjoy the Rockies with minimal effort. Tip for visitors: Try to ride in the open-air seats during summer for the most immersive experience and bring a camera to capture the stunning scenery.

Its a beautiful place for sure but very busy and outrageously expensive. There were so many people that it was hard to get a picture without strangers in it.lol But the staff members in the hotel and coffee shop were wonderful. They truly cater to people with class and kindness. Adding 2 stars to my review.

I liked the view when I went to the top but to be honest, this whole gondola thing was very normal. View was great but could be a possibility that I went in July and it looks better when snow is around. There is a photo booth where you can take a picture.

The Lake Louise Ski Resort & Summer Gondola is one of Banff National Park’s most versatile and photogenic destinations, offering year-round opportunities for spectacular mountain photography. Nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, the resort provides sweeping views of Lake Louise, the Bow Valley, and the imposing peaks of Mount Temple and the surrounding ranges — all accessible within minutes by gondola. During summer, the Lake Louise Gondola is a photographer’s dream. The 14-minute ride ascends through lush alpine forest to an elevation of over 2,000 meters, where breathtaking panoramic vistas unfold. From the upper station, visitors can capture the iconic turquoise waters of Lake Louise framed by rugged mountains and glaciers. The viewing platforms and short trails near the summit offer ideal vantage points for sunrise and sunset, when golden light touches the peaks and deepens the blues of the lake below. Wildlife photography is another highlight. The area around the gondola is prime grizzly bear habitat, and sightings from the safety of the lift are common in summer. Photographers can also encounter elk, marmots, and golden eagles, making it an exceptional spot for nature and wildlife shots without venturing deep into the backcountry. In winter, the resort transforms into one of Canada’s premier ski destinations. Snow-covered slopes, alpine lodges, and the dramatic backdrop of Mount Temple create postcard-perfect winter scenes. The crisp mountain light, combined with the interplay of snow and shadow, makes for stunning high-contrast photography. A ride on the gondola or chairlift provides aerial views of the skiers below and the vast white wilderness stretching in every direction. Whether blanketed in snow or glowing under summer sun, the Lake Louise Ski Resort & Summer Gondola offers photographers a chance to experience the Rockies from above — capturing the scale, color, and wild beauty that make Banff National Park one of the world’s most photogenic landscapes.

My notes here are strictly for the gondola experience. Winter time. Not the best gondola experience but it was recommended after the Banff gondola, which was closed for maintenance during the time we went. It literally is just a ski lift up and then back down... there is no hiking or real views of anything other than what you would normally on any ski mountain. The folks here are very nice and told me they have been working on a lodge project for YEARS so that people like me don't come up expecting exactly that, and they gave us free vouchers for a hot drink to enjoy on our way out. For the price of "sightseeing" gondola tickets, I would skip this... but I'm sure this is a great place for winter sports.

Visit: April 2025 A nice, pretty simple hike! Finished in about 1h30m. Good hike for beginners as it's not overly strenuous. The views were great, and it was fun to wave at the people going up by gondola. If you can't take the trail, you can pay for a gondola up. At the top, there's food, drinks, a souvenir store, and information about the mountain and some games for kids. If you go out, there's stairs that take you to the observatory

Stunning views that you just can't go wrong viewing anytime. The gondola makes it a breeze to get up and down but the trail seems like fun as well and seemed well marked. Recommend visiting near sunset for the golden hour for best pictures.

Taking the Banff gondola or hiking to the summit, the views that await you are a must when visiting Banff. We decided to hike (2 hours). You can buy a one way ticket back down for the gondola. We found $97 for an 8 minute gondola very steep ($52 one way down as well). Especially since every mountain in Canada seems to have gondolas, so not that special. Beautiful hike, a little steep at times but again, well worth the walk in nature. The views are amazing at the summit. There is a shop, 2 restaurants, a viewing platform and you can hike a bit further to the summit of the old radio tower.

The Buffalo Nations Museum, located in Banff, Alberta, is a fort-like museum that houses a diverse collection of artifacts showcasing the history and culture of the indigenous First Nations people who lived in and around the Canadian Rockies. The museum specializes in preserving the rich heritage of Canada with exhibits featuring early Indian civilizations, photography displays, a variety of musical instruments, and seasonal events such as ceremonies, dances, and songs.
Nice small museum..gift shop..staff we're helpful and polite..disabled friendly ramp inside to get to display area...have to pay to get in..lots of items on display..screens with information playing you can sit and watch and listen....can take photos..just don't touch glass displays or exhibits...can get a guide to show you and explain everything you see...do groups as well...

The Buffalo Nations Museum is a charming, medium-sized museum that offers a fascinating glimpse into indigenous history. You can expect to spend up to an hour exploring the exhibits. While the displays are engaging, the museum could benefit from more comprehensive information on indigenous cultures and histories. Despite a slightly higher admission fee compared to previous years, the overall experience was good. One notable disappointment was the removal of the Sun Dance exhibit, which I was eager to share with my children. However, the drum room was a big hit, providing an interactive and enjoyable experience for them. The museum shop also deserves a mention for its delightful selection of animal stuffed toys native to Canada, making it a perfect stop for kids.

Beautiful artefacts and certainly worth your support. However, the museum struggles to find a red threat and/or guiding red thread throughout all that it has to offer. Also, the lack of a washroom for guests is a minus.
Frank B — Google review
Visiting the Buffalo Nations Museum was one of the most meaningful parts of our trip to Banff. Tucked away near the Bow River, this beautiful museum offers a powerful and immersive glimpse into the lives, culture, and history of the Indigenous peoples of the Northern Plains and Rockies. From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the depth of knowledge and respect shown for Indigenous traditions and ways of life. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, with incredible displays of traditional regalia, beadwork, hunting tools, tipis, and artifacts that speak to the strength, resilience, and beauty of the cultures represented. What stood out most was how personal and grounded everything felt. There was a real sense of storytelling — not just facts and dates, but the voices and histories of people who have called this land home for thousands of years. It’s a museum that invites reflection, respect, and appreciation for cultures that too often go overlooked. The gift shop is also lovely — small but full of meaningful items, many of them made by Indigenous artisans. Whether you’re looking for a thoughtful souvenir or a gift with cultural significance, it’s definitely worth browsing. The location itself couldn’t be more beautiful — nestled in the picturesque town of Banff with the mountains as a backdrop. It’s a peaceful and inspiring place to spend a few hours, and a must-visit for anyone wanting to better understand the land they’re standing on. If you’re in Banff and looking to connect with the deeper roots of the area, don’t miss this museum. It’s not just history — it’s living culture, and it’s told with care, heart, and authenticity.

Visited this museum on a rainy day in Banff. It took about 40 minutes to walk through. Reading the history and seeing the items on display were so interesting. It was also cool to be able to hit the drum. There are 2 videos playing but it's hard to hear with people talking and the drum being played. The gift shop has a large selection and alot of "Made locally in Canada" items which I appreciated. The staff were super friendly. Definitely recommend checking it out!

Good resource for information on first nation. Would have been nice to have had some first nation people there to share experiences first hand. Although the videos do tell of the atrocity and slow genocide suffered by the people and children.
David — Google review
Like others here, I would benefit from understanding more about the curatorial process at this museum. Failing additional details, I will say that if you’re looking to meaningfully engage with the history and story of Indigenous peoples in the prairies, you may struggle to do so here. Poor upkeep and supporting documentation of exhibits and outdated language throughout the space left me feeling more like a detached gawker than an engaged participant in the reconciliation process. Things like the unattended drum for all to use left me with the sense that there was some consensual element absent here. My awe at the size of this collection is perhaps matched only by my unease about how it came to be displayed in the way that it is. I do not recommend this museum.

It’s less about hiking here and more about taking it easy and soaking it all in. I always saw wildlife on the drive up to this spot. While there are quieter hikes around, this is a nice, easy stop with stunning scenery.

Easily one of the highest effort-to-reward ratios if you can find a drive up spot outside the big field. Unfortunately there were high winds kicking up clouds of dust from the dry field when we visited which dampened our experience. Still great views overall, wish we could’ve stayed longer.

Beautiful, panoramic views of Banff. Easily accessible by road and only about 15 minutes from downtown Banff.
Portia M — Google review
Mount Norquay, located just minutes from the town of Banff, is a hidden gem that offers some of the most stunning panoramic views in the area. Although our visit was brief, left lasting impresion. The drive up the mountain was scenic and peaceful, winding through lush forest with occasional glimpses of the valley below. Once at the top, we were greeted with absolutely breathtaking views of Banff, Mount Rundle, and the surrounding peaks. It’s one of those places where you instantly feel a sense of calm and peace. While Mount Norquay is often known for its ski resort in the winter, the summer and fall months offer a completely different and equally captivating experience. We stopped by in the early evening, and it was the perfect time. The lighting just before sunset made the mountains glow with soft golden hues. There were benches and open areas, making it a fantastic place to bring a small snack or picnic and simply enjoy the views.Though we only stayed for a short while, it was more than enough to appreciate beauty of the place. I would highly recommend adding Mount Norquay to your Banff itinerary. Whether for a quick stop or a longer pause, it’s absolutely worth it, epecially if you can time your visit to catch the sunset. It’s a simple, peaceful way to connect with the natural beauty.

Epic views, bighorn sheep, and gossiping pikas — what more could you want? Mount Norquay Lookout was an absolute treat! The views were breathtaking — classic Rockies magic — but the real highlight? Bighorn sheep just casually hanging out like they owned the place. And then there were the pikas, popping in and out of holes like little furry comedians. I swear I could hear them chatting from one hole to another, probably gossiping about hikers' weird outfits or who's been hoarding the best snacks. Nature’s drama, live and unfiltered. Totally worth the stop — for the scenery and the entertainment.
Preethy S — Google review
Just a 15 minute drive from Banff downtown. It’s free. Great view! We even caught sight of some wildlife. I would highly recommend this for a breathtaking view of Banff and surrounding area. At first there was no parking spot available right there, we drove up for another minute or two and there’s a bigger parking lot there.
Andrea — Google review
A hidden gem of a lookout. Excellent views of Banff and the surrounding peaks. If the weather is clear, you’re in for a treat. Not to mention the drive up is short but amazing with quite a few switchbacks. Unlike other reviewers, unfortunately we didn’t see any animals on the short drive up or down.
Ashar K — Google review
Mount Norquay Lookout offers an absolutely spectacular view of Banff! While driving through Banff, we noticed this open grassy area high up on the mountain, which caught our attention and made us curious enough to drive up. When we arrived, the panoramic view was breathtaking, you can see almost all of Banff from above, and the steep drop definitely gives you a little bit of vertigo! It’s also a perfect spot for taking amazing photos. Important tips: The road going up is quite steep and winding, so having a good vehicle is highly recommended. I can’t imagine driving up here in winter, but during summer it’s an incredible experience. Totally worth the visit if you’re in Banff!

Lake Louise offers a range of activities and trails for visitors to enjoy during the summer. Canoeing on the turquoise waters is an iconic experience, with the famous red canoes providing a picturesque sight. The Lake Louise Lakefront Trail offers stunning views from different perspectives, while the Shoreline Trail provides an easy and accessible hike along the lake. For those seeking a less crowded experience, the Lakeshore Trail is a flat path that allows hikers to explore the western shoreline at their own pace.
This lake is beautiful… it has a beautiful shape with the beautiful mountains 🏔️ to see…. I heard that one Japanese guys also made a song for this lake too… I also heard this song inside the bus by the radio… while I was going to this Louis Lake… the lake’s water was also totally, hardly frozen, so I could also walk the way towards the right end most part of the lake too…. I wish I could also come to the Louis Lake in the Summer season too…. someday for sure… I think Louis lake is beautiful…. and it is totally worth it for people to visit in Summer and Winter…. The Louis lake is also in the westernmost side of state of Alberta, right next to the border of the BC (British Columbia) state…. which is also becoming a “welcoming” sigh for people who are visiting, or entering the state of Alberta from other places….

Beautiful views when we went this past August, with the fireweeds (the pink flowers) and iconic turquoise water. Recommend going up to the Beehive Hikes if you have time and energy, but even just the view at the lakeside is still very beautiful! The bus shuttle system was fair but difficult to book, so make sure to book in advance and get there early!

A beautiful glacial lake with a hotel and a walking path that goes partially around the lake. It’s a hugely popular place to visit, so expect some crowds of tourists. There’s very limited parking here, and the parking lot is almost always full by 6 AM or so. Just make it easy on yourself and take the shuttle to the lake. You can book free shuttle tickets online 2 days before, but tickets are hard to get. Another option is to pay for a shuttle through a local tour company. Plan on an hour or two here to get some good photos, and have time to hike around the lake.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous view… Did we say gorgeous? Everything you read or hear about Lake Louise is true. This place should be on your short list of must do’s. Similar to many areas in Switzerland, the water is so incredibly blue at Lake Louise. Seeing is believing of just how pristine the water is. ***Tip*** We came in mid-October and avoided the crowds and the parking hassle. We visited on two separate occasions and had no issues parking at the lake.

It is worth seeing indeed🤩😍! However, Emerald Pond in Jasper is more spectacular for me🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍!!! The trail along the lake is flat and easy to hike. The water is so clear and the colors are deep blue, light blue, turquoise and light green depending on where you view it from. Standing at the top step of the wooden stairs on the right past the Chateau makes a difference in the color of the lake which is better. Reserving shuttle tickets was not easy. I had gone into the Parks Canada website on the 60th day before we would be in Lake Louise. The earliest shuttle available was from 3-4 p.m. I found out later that only 40% of the seats are released at that time. Two days before the date you plan to visit, 60% of the seats are released but the popular times are taken quickly. I was able to secure seats only for the 7-8 a.m. instead of my preferred 9-10 a.m. While I was on the phone with Parks Canada staff, the remaining four seats during the 9-10 a.m. shuttles disappeared. It’s by luck. The advantage of our shuttle hour was that the trail was not mobbed from 8-10 a.m. On our way out, it was congested. There is a cancellation fee $C6 or a bit more when changing the hour slot.

Absolutely beautiful lake! In my opinion, it is better than Moraine lake because there seems to be more to do and see. Highly recommend, lake Agnes tea house, the beehive, and devils thumb. All boast spectacular views of Lake Louise except the tea house. The views of the lake from up high, really show off its beautiful color. If you don't end up hiking to the top of the devil's thumb, at least hike around the mountain until you hit the steep portion because there are incredible views of the 6 glaciers. The beehive hike is on the harder side of moderate but manageable with a consistent pace.

Lake Louise is a breathtaking destination that truly captures the beauty of the Canadian Rockies. The turquoise waters of the lake, surrounded by towering mountains and lush forests, create an awe-inspiring view that feels almost surreal. The color of the water, fed by glacial melt, is one of the lake’s most unique and mesmerizing features, especially on a clear, sunny day when it reflects the surrounding peaks. A visit to Lake Louise offers plenty of activities for outdoor enthusiasts. In summer, you can kayak, canoe, or hike the numerous trails around the lake, such as the popular Lake Agnes Trail. The trails offer panoramic views and bring you closer to nature. In winter, the area transforms into a snowy wonderland, perfect for ice skating on the lake or skiing at the nearby Lake Louise Ski Resort. Despite being a popular spot that can get crowded, the natural beauty and serenity make it worth the visit. Early mornings or late afternoons tend to be quieter and offer the best lighting for photos. Lake Louise is a must-visit for anyone exploring Banff National Park, offering both adventure and tranquility in one of Canada’s most iconic landscapes.
Bolun S — Google review
Lake Louise is a really beautiful lake, second only to Moraine Lake, slightly further up. The water is astounding, especially with the sun fully on it. Getting here was easy, but you really do need to book a long way in advance or stay at Lake Louise Chateau or Morain Lake Lodge. The walk along the side of the lake is lovely, giving some fantastic views of both the lake and surrounding mountains. At the far end of the lake you can see right across the valley behind the Chateau. It is work walking, not only to the end of the lake, but up to the Plain of Six teahouse. The views walking back from here are amazing. This is probably the primary place people visit in Banff. I would recommend noon to late afternoon.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course is a stunning destination for golf enthusiasts, offering two 18-hole courses surrounded by picturesque pine forests and majestic mountain views. Located just a 30-minute drive from Canmore, this Stanley Thompson-designed masterpiece is situated near the iconic nine-story hotel known as Canada's Castle in the Rockies. The course provides an unforgettable golfing experience amidst breathtaking natural scenery.
Amazing round of golf. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by staff who provide excellent support. Staff is extremely professional, polite, and accomodating. Warm hand towels are provided at the turn and at the end of the round for a very nice touch as well. My father was able to ride along in addition to our foursome and carts were as luxurious as the course itself. We played the Stanley Thompson 18 in late June and the conditions were perfect. Tee boxes and greens well kept and practice area, which included range and short game area, were also maintained well. A bucket list course indeed! Well worth the price of admission and would definitely do it all over again.
Andrew T — Google review
A bucket list course for any golfer, particularly Canadians. It's realistically not walkable, don't try. Lots of simply epic photo opportunities. One massive elk followed us slowly up 18 making a lot of noise, was the only wildlife thankfully. Nicest golf carts you'll ever use and top notch service. Massive, and usually elevated greens so don't be short. Very punishing sand traps. Only quibble would be the driving range. Hitting off of mats is pretty unacceptable at any decent course, let alone a Fairmont. The course we played the day before had a grass range, so it wasn't a regional thing. Stanley would not approve.

Good afternoon, I would like to recognize the phenomenal golf course tour led by Joelle. The views were magnificent. Although the weather became unfavourable, Joelle maintained a professional can do attitude and I am grateful. Thank you to all the staff encountered, may the season treat you kindly.
Shawayne D — Google review
This course was everything I hoped it’d be, every photo I posted on socials had people commenting how jealous they were of the gorgeous views and conditions. I recommend snagging a tee time as early as possible, the weather in the mornings is very calm making for optimal game play. Later in the day it may get windy or have random drizzles. I teed off at 8:10am. Godspeed at the Devil’s Cauldron Par 3 (Hole 4) and highly recommend snapping a video of your tee off on Spray’s Par 4 (Hole 15). Spend the 19th hole at Waldhaus (next to Hole 15 tee boxes)! TaylorMade rental clubs were awesome and $85 CAD for one round is much better than having to pay a check bag fee to bring your own much less lag them around. I shot a PB of 88. The negative reviews about cost are subjective, I can pay $100-$115 USD in Austin, TX for a semi private/municipal course that isn’t as stunning as this course is so I definitely think it’s worth it. Golf carts are very comfy, service is great, and pro shop has a nice selection of takeaways to document a wonderful time. I had the lucky pleasure of getting to play a round with the Club President, Ray and his son Robson - phenomenal golfers and great company. Can’t wait to go back!

At Fairmont Banff Springs, I played 18 unforgettable holes surrounded by towering, picture-perfect mountain backdrops—and even encountered a bear during the round. It’s truly one of the most breathtaking natural golf settings I've experienced. If there’s one downside, it's that the course only operates from May to October (as of 2023).
MAX K — Google review
This golf course had the best views of any golf course I have played and it wasn’t particularly close. It’s been a bucket list golf course for me to check off for over a decade. The staff was very accommodating. Didn’t want to worry about the hassle of bringing my clubs for just one round, so I rented some. Brand new TaylorMade set from the drivers down to the wedges. I was pleasantly surprised. Course conditions were phenomenal. Greens rolled true. I see people complaining about pricing and ask them if they have played any top US courses? This course is worth the money compared to something like harbour town which which charged me $425 a few months ago(now $600+) and I would play this course 10 out of 10 times over a premier course like that.
Blake E — Google review
Staff were pleasant and helpful. Golf course was great shape from tee to green. Greens were in great shape and good speed. Scenery was great. Layout was really good, not great but maybe my expectations were too high. Awful expensive but happy to have played it once.

This course is everything you want it to be and more. I played it in mid-June and got paired with a couple locals who were so nice and helped me navigate all the holes. The staff is amazing, great proshop, and the views are outstanding. We had to skip a hole because a mama bear and her cubs were have a bite to eat. Here are some pictures I took that day but they certainly don't do it justice. Must-play if you're in Banff.

Nature & Parks
Athabasca Falls, located on the upper Athabasca River just west of the Icefields Parkway, is a remarkable waterfall known for its powerful force and stunning beauty. While not the tallest in the Canadian Rockies at 23 meters, it impresses with its large volume of glacial water forced through a narrow gorge. The surrounding pine forests and mountains provide an iconic Canadian backdrop that can be admired from convenient viewpoints along the trail and a footbridge across the canyon.
These falls were fantastic. The thunderous sound reminds you of the power of water and of nature. Seeing the rainbow as the water passes over the falls was an added bonus! Truly a must for anyone visiting Jasper National Park.

This is another waterfall that you really need to stop at. Plenty of parking even for RVs. It was a short walk to the waterfall. There is a trail that you can walk around to see the waterfall. Definitely stop here when driving the Parkway.

Athabasca Falls is absolutely breathtaking! The waterfalls are powerful and mesmerizing, surrounded by incredible mountain scenery. Walking through the footpaths is a stunning experience — every turn offers something new to see and appreciate. Even though the area was affected by the fires, its beauty and strength still shine through. It’s a must-see stop in Jasper — peaceful, scenic, and a true reminder of nature’s resilience. 🌿💧We visited October 2025 and it’s less crowded dress accordingly. Athabasca Glacier, located in Jasper National Park, is a renowned and receding glacier that attracts numerous visitors. It is part of the Columbia Icefield, an expansive ice mass situated on an elevated plateau near some of Jasper's highest peaks. The glacier offers guided tours and hiking opportunities for visitors to experience its stunning beauty up close. Despite being one of the world's most accessible glaciers, it is sadly retreating due to global warming.
I had a lot of fun here riding the bus and walking on the glacier. I really enjoyed it glad I was also well dressed with boots and a light down jacket. It was cold. But loved the experience.

We didn't go into the Glacier on this trip but we plan to next time. We enjoyed wandering through the Discovery Centre and then going abroad the highway to hike to the Toe of the Athabasca Glacier. You can see the people on the Glacier who are on the Glacier tour. There is a fence at the end of the trail but everyone was pushing it down and stepping over to go all the way out to the water. So sad that no one follows the signs. I stopped at the fence. It was beautiful up there. The Skywalk is part of the tour. We also ate lunch in their cafe. The portions were big, so we shared. The parking lot was packed and there were people everywhere. It was crowded but worth visiting.

Nourish Bistro Banff is a unique eatery known for its inventive vegan and vegetarian dishes, as well as creative cocktails. The menu offers a wide range of influences, including Southern comfort food, pan-Asian cuisine, and Italian fare. While the prices are higher than other restaurants in town, Nourish stands out with dishes like build-your-own-charcuterie boards and mushroom-stuffed ravioli in cashew milk-based cream sauce.
A Vegetarian Delight in the Rockies If you're looking for the best vegetarian food in Banff, Nourish Bistro is the place to be. The Big Bear Burger was absolutely delicious — flavorful, hearty, and satisfying even for non-vegetarians. They also offer a great variety of fruity beers and creative cocktails that pair perfectly with the food. The service was friendly and attentive, and the cozy, nature-inspired ambiance adds to the overall experience. It is a bit on the pricey side, but the quality and uniqueness of the dishes make it worth it. Make sure to book in advance as it could be very busy.
Parth P — Google review
We’re not vegan, but we always love trying vegan food and Nourish did not disappoint! We saw great reviews and decided to check it out. The food was honestly amazing. We loved everything we ordered, and the cocktails were just as good. Only thing that threw us off a bit was that we weren’t done with our food (we still had fries and few bites left), and one of the staff just picked up our plates without asking if we were done. That felt a little off, to be honest. But apart from that, the rest of the staff was nice, and the vibe was good. If you’re vegan or just curious to try vegan food, this place is definitely worth a visit. Loved their in-house burgers, highly recommend!

I loved Nourish Bistro so much that I ate here TWICE during my 2 day visit to Banff. The first time I had the delicious Vietnamese Noodle Salad with tofu. Not only was it delicious, but it was colourful and beautifully composed. The next day I came back for a lighter meal and had the vegetable gyoza. I also enjoyed the home made lemon / lime drink, which was wonderfully refreshing and not too sweet. The best part was the terrific service! The staff seemed to operate as a very cooperative team to provide seamless service. The restaurant itself had a comfortable and calm vibe. Sit outside on their patio with yellow umbrellas to get a lovely view is the mountains. Support this small, independent business! 💛

Super friendly and super relaxed staff. Good ambiance. Most importantly really good food. The menu is creative and divers. All vegetarian restaurant and all upgradable to vegan. It does so without screaming this, in my opinion that is a huge plus and a compliment. Just go and try this restaurant.

If ever you are in Banff, this is a gem of a place. Everything is vegetarian or vegan including the drinks. We were in Banff end of May and were looking for a restaurant with more vegetarian options as well as the ambience. This place fitted the needs. Lovely patio sitting and the service was excellent. It was Saturday evening and the place was packed so we waited for 15 mins to get a table which was so worth it considering all the delicious options on the menu. There were four of us - we ordered Boss Bear Burger, Nourishment Bowl and Wild Mushrooms Ravioli. All three dishes were yummy. And also ordered beer and a non alcoholic drink. Will definitely go there again if ever we are in Banff!!

So nice to find a place to enjoy a variety of fresh, healthy and original veggie dishes. The dumplings were prolly our favorite but I do have to give a shout out to both the beet humus and their marinaded/grilled tofu …both were super yummy as part of the overall salad I had. Thankfully the dressing was not overdone so I could enjoy the overall mix of flavors. Glad the weather cooperated as it was nice to dine on the patio and enjoy the lively outdoor atmosphere. PS- if u get the dumplings and have any dipping sauce left over, I loved dipping the falafel into it, but maybe that’s just me!

Heaven for vegetarians. We got the mushrooms ravioli and black bean burger. The fries with the burger were seasoned so well. And all the sauces were super tasty. Going back again to try other stuff. Definitely recommend. The staff is super friendly and welcoming!!!

We chose this restaurant because of the great reviews and were really looking forward to a culinary highlight. Unfortunately, the food was just okay. We had the Vietnamese noodle salad, a burger, and the beetroot bruschetta as a starter. For my taste, both the noodle salad and the beet root bruschetta were overseasoned with vinegar. The noddle salad could have benefited from more ingredients, while the bruschetta was rather dry. Overall, it felt quite pricey for the quality of the food. The location itself is cool and has a nice atmosphere.

Surprise Corner Viewpoint is a popular spot in Banff that offers stunning views of the 1888 Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and Sulphur Mountain. The name 'Surprise Corner' comes from the unexpected and breathtaking vistas that greet visitors as they round the corner. It's a budget-friendly option for travelers, as it's one of the many free things to do in Banff.
This was a great viewpoint. It’s a decent walk from downtown and you can pass by many views on the side. Once you get to the actual viewpoint, you get a good view of the hotel and of the river below. We visited in the winter and it was amazing! 🤩 Overall, very cool place!
Ayden — Google review
Getting here is ready but there are only 8 parking spots. We went by here several times and there are always about 20 cars trying to park on this blind corner, it's a mess and very dangerous so please tell the tourists to park legally and do not let them block traffic or stop on the road way. The view is only OK. You can see the Fairmont, the mountain and if you walk up the road you can see some of the falls. The road drops off here quickly so be careful walking, 1 rock that move could put you over the side with a 100 meter drop into the icy waters below. Unless you like that kind of adventure. There is no repelling or climbing here but great place to try if you can get parking. The view point is across the street. There are no seats and no wash rooms. You have to climb several steps and a short incline. Give this review a like 👍♥️. Let us know if you get a parking spot, see tourists getting in accidents for being morons. Our get some amazing photos

Named for its spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, Bow Falls and the historic Fairmont Banff Springs hotel from Buffalo Street , Surprise Corner is an excellent place for photos and also to start a hike on the local trail system. The impressive view makes it clear why the Fairmont Banff Springs was built in this exact location in the national park. There is a small parking lot located on the opposite side of the street from the viewing platform from which another hiking trail also leads up to the Hoodos Viewpoint – another great spot for even better views!

Surprise Corner” truly lives up to its name — it’s one of those magical places that makes you stop, smile, and feel grateful to be there. From the moment I arrived, I was taken by the breathtaking view. It’s the kind of spot that feels both peaceful and powerful, with nature wrapping around you like a gentle embrace. Whether you’re visiting for photos, reflection, or a quiet moment to breathe, this corner captures the heart of what makes travel so special — discovery. The panoramic view of the surrounding landscape is simply unforgettable. You can see winding rivers, majestic mountains, and the charming architecture below. Every direction offers a picture-perfect scene, and the light changes beautifully throughout the day — early morning mist brings a calm, dreamy vibe, while sunset turns the whole place golden and alive. It’s a photographer’s dream and a soul-soothing escape for anyone who loves nature. What makes “Surprise Corner” extra special is the feeling it gives — that little spark of wonder you get when the world suddenly feels bigger and more beautiful than you expected. It’s quiet enough to feel personal, yet open enough to share with others without losing its magic. The area is clean, easy to access, and well-marked, with a few benches to sit and soak in the moment. If you’re visiting nearby attractions or just driving through, make sure to stop here — even for a few minutes. It’s one of those places that remind you how simple moments can become unforgettable memories. I left “Surprise Corner” with a full heart and a smile — truly a five-star experience that proves the best surprises often come when you least expect them.

Waterfall
Sunwapta Falls is a stunning pair of waterfalls located in Jasper National Park, originating from the Athabasca Glacier. The trail to the lower falls is about 3.2km and offers well-marked paths through a forested park setting with manageable elevation gain. It's recommended to start the hike in the morning to avoid crowds. From a short distance away, visitors can enjoy picturesque views of Sunwapta Falls and its famous island above the rushing water.
Sunwapta Falls is a must-stop! The upper falls are right next to the parking lot — perfect for those who love waterfalls but hate walking. Super easy to access and still very impressive. But if you're up for a little adventure, don’t skip the lower falls. It’s a peaceful 2km round-trip hike through the forest, and honestly, I liked the lower falls even more. Less crowds, more nature, and just a better vibe overall. Totally worth the walk!

This is a great stop!! Parking can get crazy depending on when you go. I would bring a big RV into the parking lot as people park on both sides of the road and in the parking lot area, three class C RVs park along the inner area which leaves minimal space to squeeze through. Once you are there, it is a short walk to the falls bur you can go further around the falls to various viewpoints. On the highway there is an area where you can get something to eat and busses park there as well.
Donna S — Google review
The sound of the rushing water, surrounded by tall evergreens and mountain air, feels unreal. The viewpoints are easy to reach, and the turquoise water looks incredible in photos. It’s one of those places that makes you stop and just take in nature’s beauty.

I recently visited Sunwapta Falls, and it was a beautiful escape into nature. The trail to the falls was scenic and peaceful, with plenty of spots to pause and enjoy the surroundings.
Jules — Google review
What a stunning place! My favourite falls on our trip to the Rockies. I hadn’t expected for them to be quite so impressive! Make sure you walk all the way down to the bottom and you won’t be disappointed. The car park can get quite busy but we caught it lucky and managed to park the RV. So glad we did as would’ve missed such a spectacle.
Jane P — Google review
Spend the extra effort to hike to the second falls to make your visit worth it. They are less busy and equally scenic. Good way to escape from the relentless crowds that are now a hallmark of summer in Jasper.
Aaron T — Google review
Easy hike to the falls. Definitely worth to see while in Jasper!
Michelle M — Google review
Located in Jasper National Park Alberta, the falls are beautiful, trail is very accessible and easy to navigate, during the winter months the falls freeze and everything is winter wonderland, very majestic and beautiful, during summer the water is turquoise blue and the mountain and island behind the falls add more magic to the scenery!!! Parking lot is not very big expect crowds during the busy season.

Vermilion Lakes, located just a short distance from downtown Banff, offers a stunning setting to witness the breathtaking sunset over the Rockies. Visitors can easily access this picturesque spot by walking, biking, or taking a bus ride. The area provides an ideal vantage point to see Mount Rundle illuminated in golden light as the day comes to an end. For those seeking additional sunset viewing options, the summit of Sulphur Mountain and the Banff Gondola offer equally spectacular experiences.
I love to come here to watch the sunrise. It's also a great spot to see wildlife. This is a perfect spot for photographers. The mountain reflections in the water make for amazing pictures. There are so many mountain ranges in view. The road is very narrow, it barely fits two cars, so driving very slow is highly recommended. At the end of the road it's a lovely walking path that takes your around the lakes.

Hidden gem near Banff town. You go to this place for biking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing and picnic. There are only few people going this place as its not that famous unlike other places. This place also provides information about the history of the lake.

Gorgeous wetlands on the edge of Banff sign and Fenland Park. There use to be a platform but they have since taken it out. It looks barren but to preserve the conservation is understandable. Gorgeous mountains and lake view. It’s part of the Banff Legacy Trail where you can bike, walk or drive this scenic route.

Vermilion Lakes is inside Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. it is made up of a series of lakes fed by the Bow River and is located just below the Banff townsite. The iconic view of Mount Rundle is stunning and well worth the visit. Bikers and walkers use the paved area for outdoor activity. Canoes and kayaks are launched on the peaceful and tranquil water. Great place for quiet reading, watching birds and wildlife.

A very quick detour and you can see it from the car. Nice and calm, not a beach, but you can sit down and have a peaceful moment.

Beautiful scenic drive along Vermillion Lakes Drive. Great views of Rundle Mountain for that stunning mountain shot especially if you manage the reflection in the lake. Also, nice for kayaking and wildlife watching. The end of the road is also the gateway for cyclists and or hikers to access the Bow Valley Parkway.

Located along the Icefields Parkway at Cirrus Mountain, the Weeping Wall viewpoint is a striking sight to behold. The wall features a series of water streams cascading down a sheer cliff face, with the most impressive display occurring in May and early June during the spring snowmelt. Comprising three main streams, this natural spectacle attracts ice climbers seeking adventure during winter when the cliff face freezes over.
It’s a nice stop. However to the back right of the pit toilet there’s a little entrance towards the river. Go there. You won’t regret it. There’s a beautiful view of the river and the mountains behind it.
Marie O — Google review
Visit June 29.2025 It’s 2x1 . The weeping wall is very nice looking especially the rocks faces , the water coming depending on the season but it looks like weeping . As the stop area on the other side of the road, you will find near to the toilet a 10 m down trail to river where you can feel and enjoy the river . It’s amazing.
Hassan E — Google review
This is an incredible viewpoint on the side of the road of an incredible rock face, flowing waterfalls, and an amazing river. The waterfalls themselves are amazing, and live up to their name, seeming like tears flowing all the way down. The rock face was very massive and beautiful. Finally, definitely go down by the river. It was absolutely stunning and well worth looking at.
E B — Google review
Weeping wall itself I would say it’s for winter , in summer it’s just rocks but make a stop there when you drive ice field parkway to jasper or ice field . There is river and has stunning views . You can’t put your legs on chilling water from glacier and relax your feet and eyes from drive .
Nitikshya P — Google review
Interesting sight of water trickling down the water, as if it’s weeping! There’s a small area to park/stop the car along the highway
Bugwagen — Google review
Road side stop along the Icefields parkway drive. Depending on the time of year the wall may have water running down it through out from the observation point to almost be dry. Winter time one can see the frozen cascading water
Darrel B — Google review
Going mid August there didn’t appear to be too much water running down the Weeping Wall. I feel bad not giving this viewpoint 5 stars, but compared to some of the others. This one is more of a 4 star rating. Still well worth pulling over for if you have time.

Glacier
The Columbia Icefield, located in the Canadian Rockies and spanning Alberta and British Columbia, is one of the largest non-polar ice fields globally. It's a popular tourist destination near Jasper, offering accessible tours to witness its massive expanse. Visitors can observe the impact of climate change as the glacier has visibly retracted over the years. The experience of stepping onto this vast ice field provides a humbling perspective on natural forces and highlights the urgency of environmental conservation.
This is a great way to experience the rugged beauty of the rockies. It's free to visit and if you're up to walking for about a kilometer from the parking lot, you can get quite close to the glacier. There are some steep parts to this climb, but if you take it slow, it's not difficult for a regular nature-walker/hiker. If you want to walk on the glacier you will need to buy a trip through a nearby service.
Ted C — Google review
This was an incredible drive, even on a very cloudy and overcast day. The road conditions were excellent for the seasonally harsh weather the place encounters. The occasional slow drivers were easily possible. We saw a black bear grazing along the way. We stopped at Bow Lake and Crowfoot Glacier and then went straight through to the Columbia Ice Fields. The facilities were excellent. Clean, well stocked, with good (fast) food. We had amazing views for lunch and picked up a lot of souvenirs.
Dianna T — Google review
Very cool to see a glacier up close. We went in august and were comfortable doing the publicly accessible hike in shorts and a sweater. The cost to hike onto the glacier was about $150 so we stuck with the free access hike. Lovely views. Signposts indicating where the glacier went to in previous years were sobering.
Kiersten F — Google review
Don't waste your money on a tour guide or on those big buses that bring you up to the glacier. It'll you can hike about 45min, you can make your own way up through the trail to the foot of the glacier on your own. It really is a sight to see though and how much it has eroded over the years. The visitor centre has a gift shop and a Starbucks as well as a bathroom for your family pit stops.

Embarking on a journey along the Icefields Parkway is an absolute essential for anyone exploring Alberta's breathtaking landscapes. This iconic route stretches 200 kilometers, connecting Banff National Park to Jasper National Park, and is often hailed as one of Canada's most picturesque drives. As you navigate this stunning highway, prepare to be mesmerized by jaw-dropping vistas at every twist and turn.
This is THE most spectacular drive I have ever taken. I drive the Beartooth Highway and Glacier Park's Going to the Sun pretty much every year, and this highway is another level to anything I have ever seen. It's literally jaw-dropping at every new vista and turn.

One of the most scenic drives in the world! Driving along the Icefields Parkway was an unforgettable experience. The views were absolutely breathtaking — towering mountains, turquoise lakes, glaciers, and endless stretches of untouched wilderness. Every few kilometers, there was a spot to pull over and admire the scenery or take photos. We stopped at several iconic spots along the way, like Peyto Lake, Bow Lake, and the Columbia Icefield. Each location felt like a postcard come to life. The road is well-maintained, and even though it’s remote, there were plenty of rest stops and information boards to learn about the area. Highly recommend filling up your tank and bringing some snacks — cell service is limited, but that just adds to the sense of adventure. Whether you’re driving from Banff to Jasper or the other way around, this route is a must-do in the Canadian Rockies.

A wonderful stay in the Hotel. The staff were very responsive in sorting out a booking issue for us before our arrival. We pulled into the driveway and our bags were taken for us and minded as we wandered the grounds and along the Lake. The staff here are super polite, friendly and efficient. Check in was a breeze. The renovations had been completed since our last stay and our room was in the new wing with a lovely lake and mountain view. The new spa has also been finished but we didn't have time to indulge. We had dinner in the Fairview restaurant and again the service was very good and the dishes excellent. We took the Hotel's Lake Moraine shuttle on our second morning and despite the chilling wind it was a wonder to experience. We highly recommend this method of visiting the Lake when planning your stay. Lake Louise and the area are wonders to see but it's the hotel and its staff that really make the stay an effortless first class experience. Thanks to all the staff who made our stay an incredible memory. We'll be back!

Lake Louise is an absolutely stunning location! My wife and I stayed several days as part of a larger group event. The staff is kind, welcoming, and hospitable. Big thank you to the hotel team. Personal shout out to Mark at concierge! After a conversation regarding hotel activities, unfortunately, the activity we wanted to participate in was full. When we had returned to our room there was a personalized note and some vouchers from Mark. This is one of many examples of kindness. We really appreciated how the staff went over and above, exceeding expectations each day! Can’t wait to visit again.

Best hotel I've stayed at. Was fortunate enough to be able to spend 2 nights here in August of last year and had a lot of fun. Ended up going canoeing twice, once during the day and once at sunset. Hotel is close to so many great hiking trails, both walking distance or short drive from trailhead. The backcountry blonde ale which is only sold here is a great beer, would definitely recommend it.

The setting alone is breathtaking—waking up to the turquoise lake and surrounding mountains felt like stepping into a postcard. The rooms were beautifully appointed, comfortable, and spotless, offering breathtaking views that made every moment feel special. The staff were always warm and attentive, consistently going the extra mile to make the experience extraordinary. Jade warmly welcomed me, checked me in and made me feel truly appreciated. A massive thank-you to Sam, who went above and beyond by surprising me with a special birthday treat delivered to my room—along with a beautifully signed card from the staff. It was such a thoughtful touch and made me feel genuinely celebrated. Even checking in at the gate, I was wished Happy Birthday! Breakfast at Louisa was another highlight. Patricia and Candy were absolutely wonderful and full of positive energy. They made each morning feel extra special with their kindness and exceptional service. Every part of the stay was elevated by the people who work there. I left feeling appreciated, pampered, and eager to return! Banff Sunshine Village Ski & Snowboard Resort is a sprawling destination offering various dining and shopping options, as well as year-round activities. In winter, visitors can enjoy world-class skiing at the resort along with two other ski areas in the park. The summer season attracts adventurers interested in activities such as paddling on Lake Louise and hiking scenic trails like the Johnston Canyon to Ink Pots route.
Rode the gondola, grabbed lunch at Mad Trapper's where I was impressed with the vegetarian options (best veggie poutine gravy I've had!), then rode the chairlift and enjoyed the beautiful trail back to the base via Rock Island Lake. I wish I had had the time to do a longer hike (like Laryx lake for obvious reasons XD XD). Still we were treated to beautiful wildflowers and scenery in some of the best hiking I've done in Banff!! We met ground squirrels on the trail and mountain goats at the gondola midstation in a VERY close encounter, I was worried we'd hit them but they knew what they were doing! Do be aware that the air is noticeably thinner at 2500m and that you won't be able to hike as strenuously as you might be used to! Also plan for the fact that food is just more expensive at a ski area, but it's not outrageous compared to what I've experienced elsewhere.

Spend an entire summer day here!! A couple of hours was not nearly enough!! The gondola gives you helicopter views of the mountains in a safe and calm way. Then you can take a chair lift even higher! You can take multiple hikes and the views are stunning! It’s not too crowded and the staff are all really knowledgeable, helpful, and care deeply about the local environmental treasures. Bring bear spray, food, water, and layers. It’s an awesome way to be in, on, and with the mountains, lakes, and wildlife. Gorgeous!!

Amazing gondola experience including chair lift to see alpine meadows. We went at the end of summer so only a few flowers left but beautiful autumnal larch trees starting to go yellow. Can do shorter or longer walks to suit fitness level/ desire to explore. Much quieter than the Banff Sulpher Mountain gondola and better experience in my opinion.

Absolutely amazing- We loved the natural snow and the staff was super friendly- Almost everyone we met had a smile or a word of encouragement for the kids. The lines were a bit long on some of the more popular runs but there was lots of lifts to chose from and we just ended up learning to avoid the longer lines by choosing lifts that had better wait times. 10/10 for customer service at this resort.

Amazing scenery and staff! The gondala experience was really awesome they stopped it for us to get off and on with a chair. They gave us champagne for our anniversary which was so nice. They also accommodated us with a golf cart to get back and forth from the hotel to gondala but thank goodness we had an electric chair to help get around. Husband has mobility issues. Room was so hot the first night. No AC. Only fans. Beds were ok... No hand held shower but a beautiful tub difficult for accessibility to get in and out... due to high walls. They did provide a shower chair. The rails are to high and block view if you want to enjoy the deck unfortunately. The chimney restaurant was sub par and cost a fortune! Stick to trappers cabin the food was great and atmosphere welcoming. The experience of gondala, bellhop service and staff made this place amazing. Thank you!

We started at this trailhead to hike the Healy Pass trail. It is an 18km hike (about 6 hours out and back). The first 2/3 are a steady climb with not too many views, but once you get closer out of the treeline it gets a bit steeper. Since we went at the beginning of August, we were able to see lots of beautiful wildflowers! Before you turn around, you will also have a nice view of the Egyptian peaks.

Stopped in to try the local beer options in Banf. This brewery is a fun place! The staff was friendly and efficient. The black IPA was very good. The place was in a feather mood due to the hockey playoffs. We didn't eat but the food looked good. Overall it was a fun experience.

Great spot for fresh beers, Ride or Dry was my favorite! The smash burger was goooood. The hot chicken sandwich could have had more seasoning / sauce. It was pretty dry. The servers were friendly, the vibe is great. Would recommend.

I’ve eaten here many times over 14years and usually love the food. But tonight we ordered takeout through an app, and my burger came with this awful rotten piece of lettuce! I don’t mean wilted from being in the box, but yellow & brown patches from it being days or weeks old! It was disgusting to find rotten food in my freshly ordered meal!!!

A little late to review but better late than never! On a weekend trip with my mom and sister I insisted we go to Banff ave brewing as it is a favourite of my husband and I. We previously had a lot of the fancier restaurants booked for dinners. We popped in at opening for lunch and we had such a fantastic meal. My mom ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and she said it was the best “burger” she has ever had and that the fries were absolutely perfect. I ordered a regular burger and have dietary restrictions, our server Jeremiah was so helpful and just overall a wonderful server. He was attentive, funny and knowledgeable. The nitro pina colada was killer. Thank you for a wonderful time as always.

This is a fun brewpub with an excellent selection of permanent and rotating beers on tap - the tasting selection of 6 beers is the way to go. It was fully packed out when we visited owing to the Melissa’s Road Race crowd but were still well served despite longer than usual waits for drinks and food. A good, convenient and causal pit stop for some drinks and grub on the main drag.

Stopped into Banff Ave Brewing and had the 12-oz Wild Warden (Raspberry Rhubarb Sour 6.2%) which was a really good beer that I would have again. This was a nice brewery with more draft options than the Three Bears Brewery nearby. Unfortunately the 2nd floor seating at the balcony lookong out onto the street had all seats taken, otherwise, that seemed like a really nice spot to enjoy a cold beer on a warm day.

We ate outside and was dog friendly. They have daily specials and we tried the fish and chips with poutine fries and the cauliflower app. Everything was fresh and crispy, super tasty. Tried some various beers they had on tap which were great. Def recommend if you are in town.

Cool place, good staff, accommodating of our baby, tasty beers and food. The reason this isn't a 5 star is everything was good, but I wasn't blown away by anything. Definitely worth a visit.

Mount Edith Cavell, located in Jasper National Park, is a picturesque mountain offering various hiking and climbing trails with stunning views of the distinctive glacier. The 8.4 km Mount Edith Cavell Meadows Trail is a must-see, leading to three incredible viewpoints showcasing the Cavell Pond, Angel Glacier, and Sorrow Peak.
It’s one of the hidden gems in Jasper. The view is breathtaking and celestial. The roads are damaged due to the catastrophic Jasper fire of 2024. I am unsure when they will be reopened.

This mountain and lakes should definitely be on the list of visitors! Take comfortable shoes as the path will not be very winding and in stones. The glacier hanging over the lake and pieces of ice in the water is fascinating!

This is a medium level hike. Some areas are steep, slippery and be cautious. This is my favorite place in Jasper. Stunning and panoramic view. Couldn’t go until end of the trail due to time limitation but definitely come back. Parking is very tight. You have to come early morning. Winding roads.

One of the most beautiful mountains and hikes in the world. The drive to the top where the parking area is amazing. This place is a must visit while in Jasper. The parking lot gets full though and it can be hard to find parking so come very early or very late.
Punit J — Google review
My favourite place, the most beautiful mountain view with glacier falls and lake in the middle. Good for everyone easy to hike. Make sure to arrive early for the parking lot.
Jecil — Google review
One of the most beautiful places we have visited. A road of about a kilometer and a half leads to a beautiful blue lake where ice floats. The leading road is full of many beautiful stones and the lake is bordered by a huge glacier. The height of the mountain is 3,633 meters above sea level and the Angel Glacier is a glacier that flows down the northern slope of Mount Edith Cowell. The mountain is named after the British nurse Edith Cowell who was executed by the Germans in the First World War. To get to Mount Edith Cavell's parking lot, drive from Jasper on Highway 93 (Glacier Highway) and shortly after passing the entrance to the park, turn right onto Highway 93A.

So cool. One of the best hikes I have done in Alberta! Saw a piece of glacier fall off yesterday which was so cool and a little sad. Trail gets hard near the top of mountain, but good for the heart 🫀. Well kept trail and the end is above the tree line which is interesting . The plants were cool.
Noa S — Google review
Parking lot is really small, I had to wait for about 20 minutes to park. Trail distance is very friendly, only 700m from parking lot to the small pond at the foot of the glacier. It is shrinking, it will disappear some day. The water in the pond is really cold, some small icebergs are floating in the pond. A nice, small place to observe and feel glacier.

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the heart of Banff, the Cascade of Time Garden offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. Since its establishment in 1930, this four-acre terraced park has captivated visitors with its meticulously landscaped pathways, water features, and vibrant flora. Just a short walk from downtown Banff, it provides a perfect vantage point for admiring the surrounding mountains and blooming flowers during the warmer months.
A really lovely place to spend time with family or just relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The gardens are full of beautiful trees and flowers, making it a perfect spot to unwind. The best part is that you don’t need a ticket, it’s free to visit. While you can’t go inside the building, the outdoor areas are more than enough to enjoy. It’s a large, beautiful garden and also a great place to take photos. I definitely recommend this spot to everyone.

Everything about the gardens was so well done.. the stone work, the entire layout, the flower choices, etc. It was bigger than I was expecting and had a lot of places to sit and enjoy the garden. So many little ponds and waterfalls thoughout + the gorgeous views of the mountains beyond.

I recently visited this place and found it to be a wonderful spot for relaxation and enjoying nature. The gardens are beautifully maintained, full of greenery and colorful flowers, with small artificial lakes and charming water fountains that create a peaceful atmosphere. It’s the kind of location where you can easily spend a few hours just walking around, sitting, and enjoying the surroundings. There are plenty of gazebos and seating areas throughout, making it comfortable for visitors to take breaks, have small picnics, or simply sit and take in the view. It’s also an excellent place for group photos or memorable snapshots—almost every corner offers a scenic backdrop with flowers, water, and open spaces. The overall vibe of the garden is very positive, a mix of calmness and liveliness that suits all ages. While entry into the main building wasn’t possible during my visit, the outdoor gardens themselves were more than enough to enjoy. Another great aspect is that there’s no fee or ticket required to access the gardens, which makes it even more appealing. Its location is also convenient, very close to downtown and surrounded by several other museums and attractions. That makes it easy to combine this spot with other sightseeing activities in the area.

Casada Garden is such a beautiful and peaceful spot. The landscaping is gorgeous, with colorful flowers, lush greenery, and plenty of cozy seating areas to relax and take it all in. Just another amazing little spot in the town of Banff. Very picturesque location with a nice walking area in the back, full of beautiful flowers, and nice water and lovely plants, and of course the gorgeous views in the background. Cascade Gardens is a beautiful and peaceful spot in Banff that offers one of the best views of Banff and Banff Avenue! One of the most unexpected gems of our trip. The gardens are beautiful, well maintained, and surprisingly not crowded. The gardens offer bursts of color and respite, while also providing stunning views of the Banff Downtown and mountain backdrop. Nature & Parks
Spirit Island, located on Maligne Lake in Jasper, is a tiny but popular spot for sightseeing boat tours. It's known for offering stunning views of the surrounding forest and mountains. This location has been a favorite among photographers since the 1940s when Peter Gales' image of Spirit Island gained international attention. Today, visitors can take boat tours with Maligne Lake Tours, including special photography-focused cruises.
The highlight of our trip! We had the most incredible experience on the Maligne Lake Cruise, a true 5-star adventure that exceeded all expectations. The history surrounding Maligne Lake is fascinating - this glacial masterpiece dates back millions of years, with depths reaching an astounding 300 meters and a temperature that'll give you chills, but the breathtaking beauty warms your soul. As we sailed, I couldn't help but reflect on the spiritual and cultural significance of this place to the Indigenous peoples. The mountains surrounding Spirit Island hold a special energy, and visiting this iconic spot felt like a sacred pilgrimage. Speaking of Spirit Island, its history is awe-inspiring - imagine the stories it could tell of the countless visitors who've marveled at its beauty over the years. We were able to experience this cruise through the Banff Pursuit Package, which was a fantastic decision as it significantly reduced the cost. The 1.5-hour cruise was perfectly paced, and the 20 minutes spent on Spirit Island felt like a dream. For those planning to embark on this journey, I have a few invaluable tips. When you first board, snag a seat near the front to capture those stunning photos of Spirit Island framed by majestic mountains. After your must-have shot, head to the lower area for closer island pics - you won't believe the detail you'll capture. And don't forget the back of the boat while it's moving away from the island - the perspective is simply magical. For the best lighting and most picturesque moments, I recommend booking the latest cruise. The way the sunlight plays with the water and mountains is truly enchanting, and your photos will be nothing short of extraordinary.

I took the Maligne Lake cruise and stopped at Spirit Island, the classic Jasper photo spot. It was cloudy and drizzling today, but that added a quiet and mystical feel. The island feels peaceful, almost like a fairytale. I only wish the stop could have been longer.
Judy H — Google review
Spirit Island is one of the best places I have ever visited in my life. The place is exactly as described and even much more as one can really feel it only when you are there to experience it. Just like all the good things in life, the visit was only for 15 minutes as per the cruise schedule. The island is island when water is more and a peninsula when water is less. There are exactly 27 trees on the island. It is a very serene place and surely lifts ones spirits. I was happy to learn that the Canadian government has allowed the tribes to do their ceremonies after a gap of 💯 years. I'm also glad that no one is allowed to set up their feet on the island. The vegetation in the area is very delicate and only gets four to six weeks to grow every year as summers are really short. Please visit it serenely and delicately.

Probably the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. Also sacred land for the local native people.
CJ C — Google review
On a recent trip to Jasper, we visited Maligne Lake and Spirit Island both of which are among the most amazing, breathtaking, and culturally significant sites I have visited. Maligne Lake is a huge expanse of water surrounded by untouched wilderness that could have been an image on a postcard. The stunning views go on and on for miles before reaching Spirit Island. On the way we were informed of the history of the area, the original custodians of the land and how to best respect the area. When we arrived at Spirit Island, we were truly speechless at its beauty. The glacial green water and picture-perfect Island are not done the justice they deserve on Instagram, and I would urge anyone who can see it in person to do so. There is something really special about the place that you can just feel, and you really can understand why the first nations people hold it in such high regard. You could honestly spend days just gazing at the place and still never get tired of it. Nothing I can say, or any pictures would describe how amazing this place is and instead I would urge anyone who can go to just do it and see for yourself.

We took the cruise out to Spirit Island and had an amazing experience with great weather. Would highly recommend either renting a kayak/canoe or booking a trip on the cruise to experience being surrounded on all sides by 1 single mountain range.

Amazing spot with an amazing view. The island is not really an island, but beautiful nonetheless. We went in the morning, so we didn't get very good photos as the sun was directly in front. I understand the best time to go is in the afternoon around 2:30 or 3:00.

Ha Ling Peak is a popular destination for hikers, scramblers, and climbers in Alberta. The trail offers scenic views of downtown Canmore and the Canadian Rockies, including Mt. Rundle and Cascade Mountain. It's a moderate day hike with chains to assist on the uneven terrain, but can be windy at the peak. Accessible from Bow Valley, it's recommended to start early and carpool due to limited parking on busy weekends.
The hike offers a mesmerizing view and is well-marked all the way through. It gets windy near the top, especially after the third set of wooden stairs, so spikes and hiking poles are highly recommended. Be sure to bring plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, along with some snacks for energy.
Neel B — Google review
Man, what a hike! I would consider this hike Moderately challenging, all dependant on the time of year that you are going. I went in spring so there was a lot of snow and ice still present. Lots of steep inclines. The trail up was very messy and mucky, so wear appropriate footwear. When getting closer to the summit; having spikes/crampons makes a world of a difference as it gets really really slippery. We witnessed quite a few people bail. The last 300m of the hike to the summit is a scramble, and the winds are pretty high so make sure you dress warm. The summit was pretty cold and I was just wearing a hoody, so a wind breaker would be a game changer. I did this hike without any poles, but hiking poles would be very beneficial!! Whole hike took me about 4 and a half hours in total, with lots of stops along the way to take pictures. I would like to do this hike again with the knowledge I have now, as I would be better prepared! The hike is definitely worth it, with some very rewarding views for the amount of effort you put in!
David B — Google review
The Ha Ling peak is a well-maintained moderate trail that’s definitely worth the effort. It takes around 3 hours up and down, making it a great half-day adventure. Along the way, there are two scenic viewpoints where you can pause, take photos, and enjoy the stunning surroundings before reaching the top. Good hiking shoes are a must, and it’s a smart idea to bring snacks and plenty of water. The summit can get quite windy, so carrying a sweater or light jacket will keep you comfortable. Another plus is the ample free parking available at the trailhead, which makes access super convenient. Overall, a rewarding hike with breathtaking views—highly recommended!
Nibin N — Google review
Beautiful hike. Well maintained and a perfect workout. Hiking poles are recommended as well as be prepared for sudden weather changes. It started raining with hailstones while we were descending.
Prachi P — Google review
Great hiking place. It is not supper hard but is not for bigginerns either. There are supposed to be 2 viewpoints before reaching the top. Only one of them is well marked. It is a busy place, so u won't feel alone and a lot of people around to help in case u need it. There are beautiful views, and you have access to 3 different mountains peaks. The route starts from the parking lot (it is big). I got there at 9 a.m., and I was on the top by 11.15 a.m., and I took a nice break on viewpoint 1. After that, the hike gets steeper and is a bit harder 😅 but if you go to your own peace, it's manageable. My recommendations are: Arrive early Bring water or any liquid that keeps you hydrated Do the hike with plenty of time once you reach the top. You might as well enjoy the time there (I was there for like 3 hours i had breakfast, and i took a short nap) Get yourself a good pair of shoes. i got my sneakers on, and they were great, but I saw a lot of people's using boots. I think that you need to pay for a pass because when I was leaving there was a guy talking pictures of the cars plates (be aware of that) The must important have fun and enjoy every step to the top, admired the view and be happy. I think that is all I can remember. I'm going to leave you with some pictures so u have an idea of what to expect. I did the hike on May 25/2025
Marcelo A — Google review
My family and I have completed this hike a few times. It's definitely one of our favorite hikes when visiting the area. Your legs will burn all the way up but it's worth it for the view and experience. The hike took us 4 hours but that's with plenty of short breaks and time spent at the peak. The parking lot is located just past the construction (gps tells you to park just before it).
Mardy M — Google review
Nice hike took me about 3 and half hours there and back, took some breaks and enjoyed the the view at the peak for about 30 mins, definitely worth , hiking sticks will greatly help
Francisco S — Google review
Absolutely stunning hike that offers a rewarding challenge. Rated moderate to hard, it took me about 3.5 hours to ascend and 2 hours to descend, making it a perfect day trip. The elevation gain is substantial, adding to the intensity, but the panoramic mountain views from the top are more than worth the effort. What impressed me most was how safe the trail felt, despite being a bit challenging. If you're looking for a hike with breathtaking scenery and a bit of a workout, Ha Ling Peak is a must-do!

The view from the lookout is unbelievable. The chairlift ride up is a quick 8 or so minutes. The viewpoint is relaxing and extremely quiet as not many people seem to know about this or do it. Johnston Canyon, Lower Falls is a famous trail that takes hikers past numerous waterfalls and plunge pools in a rocky canyon. The 1.1km walk to the lower falls features a well-made trail suspended from the canyon walls, allowing visitors to get close to the stream and running water. The area is easily accessible with well-maintained elevated walkways and offers gorgeous waterfall views. Additionally, it's possible to access the hidden cave at Johnston Canyon.
Great walk and scenery. We made it to the upper falls. About 5.4 km round trip. The line for the lower falls was insane and we didn't feel it was worth it. Once we passed the lower falls, the rest of the trail was a lot quieter as I think most people stopped to see the lower falls. The lower falls takes about 30 to 40 minutes to reach. I would recommend that you take walking shoes as opposed to open toed shoes for the walk. Gift shop has a counter for tea, coffee and some small meals which is pretty nice. The souvenirs they sell are expensive. During our hike to the upper falls. We got caught in the rain and I had no choice but to buy a $40 t-shirt!!!!

Visit : July 1, 2025 Amazing wooden trail that leads to lower and upper falls. Total distance may be 2.5-3 hours. Lower falls are amazing with breathtaking views. Small cave at the end with excellent positions for excellent photos. If you don’t want more hike up and down then at least you reach the lower falls. Good parking area but if you’re there after 4 PM then for sure you will find a spot in parking lot A or B.

Tucked away in a serene canyon, this trail is a gem for anyone craving a few hours of nature’s embrace. The path meanders alongside the soothing rush of water, creating a tranquil soundtrack for a refreshing hike. Two stunning waterfalls punctuate the journey—one lower, one upper—each a breathtaking reward. The full 5.5 - 6 km loop through the canyon is a delight, though a shorter 2–5 km trek to the lower falls is perfect for a lighter outing. For those willing to push a bit further, the upper falls are an absolute must-see, capping off a scenic and soul-rejuvenating adventure. Highly recommend!

Love this stop from our two day tour bus! We only had time for the lower falls hike but it was so worth it! Well paved, well fenced way to either lower or higher falls. Just the combination of mountains and the water is magical. The cool weather made it easier. It rained and snowed on our second day of the tour but nothing dampened the days as a matter of fact, the weather just gave it a different perspective of beauty!

It is cool to be on the hike and lower falls is the first one you would see a queue (that was the long weekend and some people skipped the line and ran all the way when people were waiting for their turn…) It is rather quite an easy hike and it is worth to going in and see However, our experience is don’t stop your hike just at lower falls! Because you shall go further up to the upper falls (no queue) and ink pots (magical and funny cold springs)

We had a wonderful family hike at Johnston Canyon to the Lower Falls! The trail was easy, well-paved, and perfect for kids, which made it stress-free and enjoyable for everyone. The walk along the canyon is beautiful, and the Lower Falls are absolutely worth the short hike. It’s a great family-friendly adventure that I’d highly recommend to anyone visiting Banff!

A good hike especially if weather is cool. Takes about 1-2 hours return. Slight elevation. There’s a little cave where you can go in to see the lower falls up closed! There’s a queue on the bridge to get into the cave. Good negative ion with the water fall and river flowing through. (See google map for more info on Johnston Canyon and upper falls)

Johnston Canyon's Lower Falls is a breathtaking stop, just a 40-50 minute moderate hike from the trailhead. The scenic path winds through a lush forest alongside a rushing creek, culminating in an up-close view of the stunning falls. You can even walk through a small tunnel for a closer look, though be prepared for crowds. The sound and power of the water are mesmerizing. A must-visit for nature lovers, but be aware that it's popular and you might have to wait for photos. Kids loved it.

I had a fantastic experience at the Banff Visitor Centre. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, going above and beyond to help me plan my trip. They provided detailed information on hiking trails, activities, and local wildlife, making sure I had all the resources I needed. The centre itself is a great one-stop shop, with clean facilities and a wide array of useful maps and brochures. A very good place to start out with your visit.

Unfortunately the workers seemed uninterested, bored. I understand they are inundated with hoards of confused international travelers. I also understand how challenging it must be to guide visitors willing to spend > $500-$1,000 per day for lodging: food and transportation vs someone on a budget looking for affordable campsites: transportation: food :hike bike opportunities. There was not one single chair to sit down in while trying to figure out the park system.. For a confused/ traveler visiting Canada for the first time it is confusing which services are offered by the park, which by the public transport ( roam bus) and which by predatory private tour companies at 10 times the price . No effort was made to distinguish this . I appreciate they are trying to save paper by only giving maps when asked. Better information was offered at the train station which offers internet and free parking . We did do reasearch before we left buying travel books from Amazon and getting travel maps from AAA , still: its confusing . After a week we figured it out. And will be back to visit this amazing park

Best place in Canada ! Hands down . I lived here for 4 years and it was the best time of my life . So much nature , northern lights , bears , glaciers , mountains, elks, snowboard and campfires . I always have this place in my heart 🖤

Took 5 minutes to grab a map. We were told we needed to check all the first- come without reservation parks before staying only 1 night in overflow park, but we found out you didn't need to check with any parks.

Nestled in the breathtaking landscape of Banff, the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity has been a beacon of cultural enrichment since its establishment in 1933. This vibrant hub serves as a melting pot where art meets innovative ideas, encouraging visitors to tap into their creative spirit. With an array of events ranging from music and dance to film and theater, there's always something happening at this dynamic venue.
I used the recreation facilities and bought a day pass. The changing rooms and the pool area were clean and spacious. The plunge pool was a perfect temperature and the swimming pool was clean and clear. I had a quick snack in the cafe. a very enjoyable experience.

I love the ambiance around this centre, but no one should expect too much from there in order not to get disappointed. The staff are great.

Stayed three nights for a conference. Beautiful space and campus. The breakfast and lunch buffet meals were surprisingly good and had healthy options. I would say there were three areas for improvement that almost made me give three stars. One, the coffee was unusually bad. Two, the gym inexplicably opens at 7 AM on weekdays and 8 AM on weekends, making it difficult to work out before a conference or breakfast. Three, temperature control in the rooms is very limited.

Really enjoyed our stay, and very fair price compared to other hotels at Banff town. Also met some beautiful elks near it.

I really enjoyed my stay here. It has a lovely view. Great service, they have a pool and a hot tub and you can have your meals with an amazing view of the mountains. My only complaint is that during the 5 days I stayed there (sharing a room), nobody cleaned or changed the towels/sheets.

Mediocre at best. AC only worked in the hallway. Rooms did cool down at night with windows open. Basic very small room. Outside of building looks nice and updated. They need to update the inside as well. I wouldn’t stay here again.

We had lunch at the bistro. It was delicious & the atmosphere was very nice.

Beautiful place. My first time and was amazed of what it has to offer. Places to eat are offered. Saw a play, small quaint theater, highly recommend
