The Lighthouse Diner is a beautiful and clean cafe with friendly staff. They serve great breakfast and lunch options, both of which are very affordable. They also have vegan and gluten free options!
Another hidden gem, being a Sunday majority of places were serving Sunday lunch which we didn’t want, we had been recommended to visit here and were not disappointed, parking is plentiful as along the side of a public walkway, the food was lovely non greasy and deep mugs for teas etc which was like home from home. We didn’t know if the food wasn’t enough or just hadn’t eaten enough as was still hungry afterwards so next time I’ll try the all day breakfast and let you know ;) Only thing to note is it’s Cash only and no cash points within walking distance, on average all of this and 3 hot drinks came in just under £30 If you stuff yourself silly, you can walk over the road and walk up to the the edge of the coast where many fishermen are and can walk across, there is a little play area and conservation wilderness. A good use of space and some very scenic views, a nice simple way to lose a few hours
A M — Google review
Everything about this place is excellent. Lovely crew and ambience. One need to have serious appetite to finish big/mega breakfast! 😊 Puppys are allowed in yard and plenty parking available! Only issue - C/card or D/card no go.
Raji T — Google review
Can't go wrong with the lighthouse diner. Menu is mostly fried breakfast stuff but a good few other options and various sizes of the breakfasts too. There's also a vegetarian breakfast option with veggie sausages and veggie sticks instead of bacon. Huge plates and massively thick toast. Really friendly staff and quick service. Make sure you have cash 'cos they don't take cards. Wheelchair friendly. Seating inside or out. Parking on the road outside. Recommended.
Paul M — Google review
Look up on line saw the amazing reviews and decided to try it out lucky I had cash on me. The breakfasts were great value for money could not eat it all the portions are more than generous so if you need a hangover cure or just a decent breakfast check this place out.
Greg B — Google review
Ideal for those who like a full English breakfast which is available in differentsizes for allappetites. Level access but no accessable toilet facilities. A short distance from the sea front
Jeremy R — Google review
Have now visited multiple times and we are never disappointed by the quality and quantity of the food. Breakfast is our usual choice and you'd have to have an epic hunger to munch through their top brekkie. It's a lovely area to visit with a maritime museum just along the road and a nice park area as well as the coastal walk. A few people have been caught out by it being cash only as you don't see the sign until you're near the counter, perhaps a cash only sign on the outside by entrance would help. Love going here and highly recommended.
Dave D — Google review
This place overdelivers; friendly, great food (thick bacon, flavourful sausages - not the usual anaemic fair). Great value, cute little garden and there was a queue at 8am on a Saturday. Shows how good this place is. My little puppy was particularly happy with the bacon… Will definitely be back.
Hans H — Google review
So we returned here to give it another go but again sadly disappointed. We asked for our bacon to be well done no such luck. The mushrooms were greasy and they were of poor quality. Sausages ok beans a few. Overall not good we will not be returning. Paid in cash but think they should take card now especially for vat and tax purposes like a lot of businesses have to

The Martello Coffee House is a popular breakfast spot in the city centre. The menu features a wide range of international favourites, as well as English favourites like Suffolk sausages, barn eggs, back bacon, hash browns and beans. There's also a menu of more than 20 different options for breakfast sandwiches and desserts including yoghurt and granola, croque madams and chocolate pudding.
Martello Coffee House Visit: 10th July 2025 We had a fabulous lunch here, so yummy. Friendly efficient service. Lovely atmosphere.
Dave H — Google review
A lovely experience here at Martello Coffee House. Lovely little place with a elevated Cafè/British Pub style interior with good quality food. Having never been here before I didn't know whether you seat yourself down or are seated by staff. (Seat yourself) and also found the ordering system quite clunky. Fetch your menus, go to your seat, grab a tray, queue up and each person has to wait for the previous persons drinks to be served before they have their order taken. I think service personally would be better if all orders were taken and then drinks were delivered to table (i know that puts strain on kitchen but we were in line for over 10 minutes, after 2pm, hate to see it in rush hour)! You also have to get your own cutlery, Napkins, sauces and salt and pepper. Aside from that fantastic selection of food items, all day breakfast, amazing sweet counter with cakes, apple pies, millionaires shortbread, rocky road, cupcakes you name it it's there! All very nice looking. Seems in the summer they also do ice cream with milkshakes, however it was all crossed out on the menu, probably as its winter. Really enjoyed my Matcha latte and cajun chicken with chips and salad. My partners fish and chips portion was bloody huge! Tasted fab too. We were a little put off at first by the prices (Everything in the pictures including a fresh squeezed orange juice was over £40), however it's good quality and a local business so if you have the money its worth it. However for the price i would expext tables to be cleaned a bit better, napkins and cutlery to be placed already on your table. For that reason we won't return often, but maybe once every now and again for a treat.
Poppy — Google review
I haven't been here for a long time, it used to be great. This time I was very disappointed, I arrived and had no idea whether we waited to be seated or what. The menu was at the till so I didn't know what I wanted until I got to the pay point and being vegetarian, I have seen a better selection of vegetarian options at a steak house. My avocado wraps side salad had (see photo) in it. I do not recommend this place at all. If you are wondering why it's an almost empty plate when I'm complaining, I was hungry but there wasn't a lot on the plate to start with.
Andrew W — Google review
Located in Sparrows Nest, this popular establishment has good menu choices plus sausage rolls, scones, variety of cakes, cold drinks and tea/coffee options. Two of us had a hot sausage roll (freshly brought out while we queued and lovely and hot) plus wife had cheese scone, I had fruit scone. Both large and light textured. Only problem is (due to their popularity and the time it takes to process the speciality coffees) there is often a queue. Other than that all good.
Malcolm L — Google review
I found this to be an excellent restaurant serving well cooked food, full of flavour. I chose the toad im the hole with new potatoes. The portion was very good and everything was cooked to perfection. The sausages were very nice indeed. I followed my main course with apple pie and cream. The apple pie was possibly the best I have ever had. I would also like to make the management aware of the great team of staff serving the customers. I must make a special mention for the young lady taking the orders. She really made a difference to my visit. She was very engaging, making eye contact, smiling, being cheerful and really enjoying herself. I only wish I could remember her name. I visited on Tuesday 26th August around 11.45 , The young lady had long hair in a pony tail and dark framed glasses. I did speak to her and a male colleague before I left. A credit to your restaurant/ coffee house. I visited while on holiday, which is a shame, as I cannot return regularly.
Stephen D — Google review
Lovely garden. Sadly ordered poached eggs and after two attempts gave up as they all came out with uncooked egg whites (I love a runny egg but yolk only and some of the white was liquid and transparent!). Staff took asking for my food to be cooked through as a personal affront despite my apologising for sending food back from the get go and said they weren't responsible for the food as they didn't cook it. Left without breakfast as had to get to work.
WTDJ 6 — Google review
Great place for a coffee and cake. Plenty on the menu. The one negative is the menu is on the wall in small print. Did find some by the till. A little late for someone in a wheelchair to choose what to eat.
Phillip S — Google review
Food and service are always good. Staff are friendly, helpful, and experienced. Food is expensive for what it is but again always good quality. The only downside is the constant threat of seagulls, but again, that's anywhere you eat outside in Lowestoft.

Crooked Barn is a charming restaurant with attentive and friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the menu. The food is described as a taste sensation, with the fillet steak being particularly praised for its melt-in-the-mouth quality. While some felt that portion sizes could be larger and wished for more side options on the menu, they appreciated the accommodating service from the staff. Visitors also noted the excellent COVID-19 safety measures in place, including social distancing, temperature checks, and mask wearing.
The staff were amazing, very knowledgeable about the menu, attentive and friendly, food was a taste sensation , the lemon tart was sublime, 4 of our group had the fillet steak and the feedback was “melt in the mouth” . Our only critique would be portion size for the larger eaters of our group, sides could be an option but we didn’t see them on the menu, but I’m sure if we had asked the staff would have obliged as that is the sort of service they gave, nothing was a bother. We all loved it and will go back.
Kim D — Google review
Attended with a group of ladies from our local WI for afternoon tea. Venue very attractive but no atmosphere as only us there. 16 in our party but just 5 tiered stands with enough for 3 on each brought out. We found it difficult to explain to waitress that need another portion but she seemed to think we had plenty and probably some left over! She then brought us a further plate of sandwiches and another scone. The sandwich fillings were disappointing too, no choice and appeared to have the 4 cheapest fillings, I.e no beef or smoked salmon. No choice to have fruit teas just tea or coffee. Scones were dry and cake choices poor as well. Would not return for afternoon tea, probably poorest I have ever had.
Janice M — Google review
Came here a few years ago as a Christmas Groupon gift. there was 8 of us all together. I really enjoyed my food and the barn itself is beautiful! Some of the party I were with prefer bland food (non complex flavours) and this place is vibrant and flavourful. I wouldn't have known about this place if not for my Groupon voucher. Highly recommended.

Visited for Friday Steak Night. Excellent value for money, £30 for two, Steak and trimmings plus bottle of house wine. Quality and quantity far surpassed expectations . Lovely venue and attentive staff without being intrusive. Very impressed.
Lynn J — Google review
Went for dinner and we were the only ones there so didn't do great for the atmosphere but the service was great. We did get the wrong tables food but this was soon realised and taken to the correct table, lucky as my wife was just about to cut in to her pork dish. I had the lamb and the portion was tiny, just 2 small strips of meat, it was very tasty but certainly wasn't a great size dinner. The pork portions were a lot better and I do wish I'd ordered this dish, but the duck we also ordered was very dry and the potatoes were hard. I feel for the prices they charge for their food the quality and portion should improve. We have been here many times over the years but feel this will now be the last.
Rob S — Google review
I'd been here on my own several years ago and found everything to be excellent. I was looking for somewhere to book to take a good friend for a birthday lunch that she hadn't been to before. Due to us both being cautious with Covid rules, we were more than pleased with social distancing, temperature taking and mask wearing from entering the reception area and throughout. Staff were pleasant and efficient, we weren't rushed, menu excellent as was the food, couldn't fault anything. Good prices too. My friend loved it and felt safe and will definitely be returning. Beautiful rooms and lodges if you want a nice relaxing stay. Well done to all. Kathy D, Norfolk.
Kathy D — Google review
Lovely venue and atmosphere. However they also have undertrained staff and overpriced food for what you get. Stood at the door for a good 5 minutes waiting to be seated with staff walking past and no acknowledgement which set us off on a bad note. The service was slow which the manager did warn us about saying they were very busy and there would be a wait but the restaurant was only half full. Not impressed with the steak at all, was unable to cut through and hardly ate any of it but was still charged full price. The lemon cheesecake was amazing though. Unfortunately we won't be returning.
Jess P — Google review
Looked nice Location nice, we popped by in the afternoon for a coffee, we sat down had a coffee and tea to peruse the evening menu, as we was going to eat their that evening, the doors were left wide open and it was cold, staff were moving chairs around banging them around dragging some forgetting there are people there, and the service was sloppy not a great impression. So we decided to eat elsewhere that evening.

McDonald's is a well-known fast-food chain famous for its burgers and fries. While the service is generally fast, there have been instances of orders not being satisfactory due to staff oversight. The parking situation can be challenging at some locations. However, the restaurants are usually clean with polite and helpful staff. Some customers have experienced delays in receiving their food, but overall, the meals are fresh and satisfying. The drive-through service is quick and efficient as well.
Popped in for lunch today and was super impressed with the cleanliness of both the toilets and the restaurant. The food was lovely and fresh and the atmosphere calm and welcoming. And I always think macdonalds is good value.

Ordered from here several times, never had a compete order, always items missing. This time I ordered a cheesy mccrispy with no lettuce or chutney. However there was also no cheese, what's the point of a cheesy mccrispy that doesn't have any cheese in? Tried calling several times, no answer.
Ben — Google review
Only one lady running around like a headless chicken, i believe her name is Zoe. All other staff just minding their own business. Manager Anna has a really poor management skills. There’s no such a thing as a team work in this place. Only feel sorry for this lady who is working really hard.
Kasia — Google review
CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE! This is honestly the worst McDonalds I ve ever experienced for getting your order correct! Its like they put food in the bag with their eyes closed! I've now easily lost about £40 worth of food that they haven't put in the bag! That doesn't even include the food that hasn't been prepared as ordered! And don't bother trying to call the number it's purely there for show, no one will answer it! I know Mc Donalds staff get a generally unfair reputation but this particular outlet more than lives up to that!!
A B — Google review
Drive through on a Saturday morning (10am) not a good experience, asked to park in carpark as waiting on meat, even though just eat customers get served first, will not use this location again. Last 3 visits unsatisfactory.
Janet H — Google review
Stopped in here whilst on a visit to Lowestoft, Probably one of the worst McDonald's have visited. No table service, They seemed more interested in getting the Delivery Driver orders and I was left waiting for a good 15/20 mins. When the food finally turned up the hot drinks were nothing but warm water so I asked them to be redone. Would steer well clear
Steven G — Google review
Below the standard of other locations. No table number tents and no printed receipts from the automated order board so I had to go to the counter and tell them what I ordered anyway. The floor was littered with rubbish, partly due no doubt to the overflowing bins. The staff at the counter were friendly and helpful and the food itself was ok, but the burger looked like it had been thrown together from the other side of the kitchen. They could do with fixing the ordering issues and have someone sweep and empty bins more often during busy times.
Sean J — Google review
Not good - absolutely disgusted. Ordered at the drive through today. Had to go back in as part of the order was missing. Got home with the food and opened the box on the double quarter pounder to find a bite out of one of the burgers. Tried phoning but after ten calls with no one picking up I drove down. Burger was replaced with free chips but still not satisfied.

Getting awful. No matter what time or day there's always empty dirty shelves. Got a prison feel to it now. Selection of herbs is poor, stationary is lacking, fruit and veg wilted. Soft drinks selection poor. Deals seem to be getting less I'd rather drive across town to Tesco.
G D — Google review
Just really experience of some staff in Lowestoft store, quite a few seem to talk to each other when maybe could be stocking shelves, also heard a few fwords when they do. Had a terrible female member of staff glasses and about just under six foot, I was getting some just essentials mature cheese and had to move the big ones and when I got the ones I wanted, I moved them back into a very good stacking, a few steps down and she went up to them moved them a little neater and made a comment out loud, I then noticed that one of the new packs of cheese that she had put out were a few days out of date, I checked it against the date on my mobile phone, I said to the woman in a normal tone whilst holding the cheese that I had noticed that they were out of date, she didn't look and just said NO THERE NOT in a don't care tone, I walked away and just happened to see an Asda man obviously in charge as he had on a shirt and tie, I told him what happened and he went straight into that section, I was still in the store half an hour later and went back and noticed that the out of date cheese had been removed, so thankfully the man must have said something, the woman is still there and still puts out the cheeses.
Darran W — Google review
We ate in the cafe it was awful. £1.98 for a portion of chips worked out to 20p a chip hardly anything there, went to complain told more or less take or leave it. Such rude staff, my sister had to wait 10 minutes for a raw in the middle jacket potato. Staff not interested in our concerns avoid this cafe it's absolutely rubbish. A family were in the queue behind us saw what was happening and walked out without ordering. Wish we could have done the same.
Joan B — Google review
DISGUSTING. By far the worst shop to shop. You NEVER get what you ordered. Always substitutes with every single order. It's also not very professional when they answer the phone and don't say a word, just stay silent.

On a Roll, the diner and takeaway known as the UK's most Easterly Diner, is a fantastic little place that offers delicious homemade beefburgers and southern-fried chicken burgers. Despite being a bit out of the way, it is well worth the visit for their top-class food. The breakfast options are also highly recommended, with perfectly cooked items on their grill. The staff at On a Roll are extremely friendly and helpful, providing great service to all customers.
New favourite takeaway! Don't usually do reviews but WOW!!! 1st time trying and I'm fully sold! Tried the meatball sub, the chilli burger and the chilli cheese hotdog (fat f***er I know 🥴) expecting it to be small portions as was only about £6-7 a piece but it was essentially 3 whole meals worth of food for about £20! Delivery was super quick, the food was easily on par with if not better than Jester's yet half the price and the driver was polite as anything, thanked me for ordering and wished me a good day! 10/10 will 100% be ordering again 💯

If you're after tasty, fast food then the Tesco Cafe is perfect - the food is hot and well-presented, and the staff are always happy to help. Not to mention, there's really nothing bad to say about this cafe. Prices are reasonable too - making it a great choice for budget-minded consumers.
Very friendly and helpful staff, food was stunning. Would highly recommend. Very reasonable prices.

A real surprise find. The food and coffee are really good and great value. But special mention for Victoria on the counter. We've been in several times over recent months and she's always friendly and bubbly, even when she's there doing everything on her own!

The staff don't seem to care if they are open or closed and one I went to get lunch there and one of the said there no lunch as I am going home and I don't want to stay it's the worst cafe ever don't eat there

I went there today and became upset. The girl behind counter was amazing. Dark hair in pony tail. Northern accent maybe. She is an absolute credit and deserves recognition

I visited here a couple of months ago and had a good visit. The service was good and I didn't have to wait to long for my food. The battered fish and chips were well-cooked and tasted good.

We probably just went on a bad day as most of the things on the breakfast menu were not in stock. We eventually chose eggs on toast and mine had a bit of smashed avocado. The eggs were very undercooked and the avocado was extremely bland so a bit disappointing. The girl who served us was lovely and very upbeat given the conversations she was having to have over and over again with the customers.

Kelly was absolutely amazing today, an absolute superatar, Kelly was lone working but was taking it all in her stride like a true profeasional, even when her que of customers kept increasing. Kelly was so warm, welcoming and polite, a real asset to Tesco cafe.

I have used this restaurant several times over the last 5vyears since moving to the area. Visited today and was surprised at the hugh improvement of cleanliness throughout. The staff were professional helpful and polite. Food was served nice and hot presented well. Covid compliant with staff prompting customers to us the NHS app and those that didn't requesting name and contact details. Well done to those staff.

McDonald's is a well-known fast food chain that has been around for many years. You can usually expect quick service and good burgers and fries. This particular branch was very clean and had fresh coffee. The only downside was that the queue was longer than usual, but this may just be because it was busy that morning.
Visited a few weeks ago very early morning for breakfast. It was a cold day and I asked if we could bring our well behaved dog in and eat I. The warm … I was expecting the staff to say no but they agreed (so long as we sat in a discreet corner) just wanted to say thankyou for bending the rules!! 🙏 the breakfast was lovely too 👍

Staff standing around talking not doing anything. I could see my food ready on the side and they refused to bring it to me. There was two managers that I could see and both just standing around chatting not doing anything and allowing the staff to mess around in the kitchen. Food was alright when received not cold was a nice temperature to eat straight away.

I've ordered alot in my time with these and every time there is 1 or 5 things missing, especially SAUCES for your meals imagine trying to eat 20 chicken nuggets with no sauce even though you give the option to on just eat. Your employee's must be seriously uneducated or just serious piss people off. Lost a customer completely rather go to KFC or Subway and actually get your orders considering you're labelled as "one of the best fast foods in the world" your employee's costing that title! Embarrassing

Unfortunately the McDonald's experience is no longer anything enjoyable. Cold food, overly cold seating areas with air con full blast even when it's chilly outside, so no need to have freezing air con on indoors. We ended up sitting outside in the wind, as it was warmer outside. The place was empty inside and, probably because it was freezing inside. Food was ages arriving, but still almost cold. No cold drinks except cola and Fanta. None of the frappe or other drinks available. The children were unhappy with cold nuggets and cold chips. Honestly, McDonald's is no longer a treat for kids, it's more of a disappointment 😔

DISCRIMINATORY STAFF & POOR SERVICE: I visited McDonald's in Kirkley Rise (Lowestoft NR33 0FD) on Thursday night (4 September, 2025), and it was quite a shocking experience, as they asked me to leave at about 2 a.m. within 15 minutes. When I said that it is advertised as “open 24 hours,” they responded that they only served drivers at night and don't have enough staff to serve visitors. That night, I had placed two orders, fully intending to order more before an early train journey — but couldn’t even get a receipt because their machines weren’t working. So I respected their business, but they disrespected me as a paying customer and, frankly, as a human being. This treatment was not only confusing and unjustified, but deeply distressing. It was dark, freezing cold, and no public services were operating. I never thought I would be treated with such disregard and lack of empathy in a place I’d visited many times before as a local resident. I am still shocked by what happened, and I sincerely hope McDonald’s reconsiders the way it operates at night. Such discriminatory treatment is beyond poor management. How do they decide which customers — and why — should be pushed out into the cold when they’ve done nothing wrong? I urge McDonald’s senior management to investigate this incident, retrain the staff involved, and make it absolutely clear that customers cannot be discarded based on made-up internal policies and personal ambitions. UPDATE: I complained to the customer service by email. It took them a week to investigate my case. In the end, a customer service officer apologized and gave me free vouchers. Thank you very much!

For a McDonald's, it was surprisingly good. Nothing special by any means, but the food came quick, was actually hot and tasted nice. Impressive, keep it up McDonald's. (It was still fairly dirty but then again it is a McDonald's)

Utter crap. Ordered a burger meal for delivery, only recieve the chips and the drink no burger, I then go to call the restraunt, it rings for 5 minutes straight no answer then declines. No way to contact the restaurant at all, I’ve had issues like this before and tried to call them with no reply, it’s almost like the phones unplugged.

Disgusting place with disgusting staff and disgusting food. Slow not. Acre and attention put into anything . Burgers covered in so much sauce . Do greasy that the burgers font even stay in the buns. And the wrappers caked in grease had to chuck. They just stand around making it obvious they don't want to be there. Telling the whole restaurant they . They aren't hanging around. I'm glad they enjoy their jobs. Worst McDonald's I've been to Suffolk. It's a dump

Sitting here in Dean’s Pitstop Cafe and thinking this is very abnormal … huge portion size … excellent food … spotlessly clean and cracking good customer service. And all for less than £10. Camping locally and decided to sneak out for the full English on a Saturday morning so did the Google search and up pops Dean’s. I was concerned as it’s in the middle of an industrial estate so I was expecting the stereotypical greasy spoon. Nearly went to Costa which is close by but decided to throw caution to the wind and that was right decision. Great value for money, great food and great customer service does make it abnormal but in a great way!!!!

A fantastic breakfast here with what appears to be top quality ingredients.

Dean's Beans Pitstop in Lowestoft offers a breakfast experience that's truly worth waking up for. From the moment you step in, the cosy atmosphere welcomes you, setting the stage for a delightful morning meal. The menu boasts a variety of options to suit every taste, from hearty classics to lighter fare. I opted for their breakfast bap, and I was blown away by the freshness and quality of the ingredients. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the bacon was crispy, and the sausages were bursting with flavour, it was a breakfast fit for royalty. For those seeking healthier options, Dean's Beans Pitstop also offers a range of delicious alternatives, including avocado toast and fresh fruit bowls. The coffee was exceptional, providing the perfect pick-me-up to start the day. What truly sets Dean's Beans Pitstop apart is the attentive service and warm hospitality. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that every guest felt welcome and well taken care of. Overall, my experience at Dean's Beans Pitstop was nothing short of fantastic. Whether you're a local looking for your new go-to breakfast spot or a visitor passing through, I highly recommend stopping by for a delicious start to your day. Dogs are allowed outside on the covered porch & garden. Definitely will return & I highly recommend it.

Had heard good things about Dean's Beans at Pitstop Cafe, so decided to try it myself. I can truly say, wow! Fantastic food, meaty sausages, free range eggs, fried bread and more all delicious 😋 Very reasonable priced & tea or coffee included in the cost of the breakfast. And, of course the staff 🤩 Friendly, nothing to much trouble, always smiling and laughing. Thank you for fantastic service 😀
