San Juan de Ulúa is a 16th-century fortress complex located on an island in Veracruz State. It has been transformed into a museum offering guided tours. The fortress was originally built to defend Veracruz from pirates and later served as a national defense bastion and a prison for prominent figures. The region is also known for its rich cultural heritage, including the Olmec civilization.
Quite interesting fort! Very well preserved and with lots of history. It may require an hour and half to visit it. You’ll be under the sun most time, so be prepared. Totally worth to visit!
Jose G — Google review
Place used to have an amazing scenic view to get there. Unfortunately the place is now surrounded by walls, factories and just to get there is 20 min more to your tour. No signs to know more about the place and very reduced parking. Is not worth doing more than once
Didier B — Google review
It is good place to visit if you go to Malecon de Veracruz, you can buy a hat ($100mx), an umbrella ($100) and glasses ($100mx) in the entrance; also you can contract a visitor guide to get a best experience(which cost is around $400MX per 6 persons). Access cost for San Juan de Ulua is $100MX.
Yessica R — Google review
We were not told ahead of time, but you must leave all food and drinks (other than water) in the ferry. Any candy. And the snacks and drinks purchased on the ferry as well. Unfortunately, my friend left her bag with candies just purchased and it went missing. Lots of walking involved. I suggest paying for the guided tour, very informative.
Mirtha H — Google review
This is a great historical place to visit. It's a drive from the city so take a taxi or other transportation vehicle. Restrooms are available. Only water is allowed inside the fort not any flavored waters. Recommended to go early as it gets hot later in the day. There are guides available outside of the fort.
Marisol B — Google review
At least 450 years old, the existence of this fort predates the founding of Boston. The architecture corresponds to the military models of the time. It might not be as well preserved as other castle/forts in the Caribbean, but it certainly is worth your visit. I have 2 small children, and we found plenty to enjoy as a family in our 2 hour-long visit. You can hire private tour guides at the entrance, but there is also plenty of information online to inform you as you search its many nooks and crannies. It's well worth the 60 pesos entry fee.
Carlos B — Google review
Very interesting place. Tickets are around $85 pesos per adult. I recommend getting a tour guide (our charged $50 additional per person) to tell you the story. It is incredible how much has happened here. We took a trolley from the artisan market and paid $100 round trip per person. Everything is outside so consider sunblock, a hat and water.
Melissa R — Google review
Great historic fort with a lot to see. A pity that it's been allowed to degrade so much. Still, there seems to be a lot of work going into renovations of at least the core structures. Hopefully when I come back I can view this historic treasure in it's full glory. Definitely worth a visit. I would recommend the guided tour as well, there are a few English speaking guides.

Nature & Parks
Located in Veracruz City, the Acuario de Veracruz is a sprawling aquarium that offers an immersive journey into the wonders of the undersea world. It features various marine life exhibits, including sharks, dolphins, penguins, and tropical fish. With over 7 million liters of saltwater and more than 250 species on display, it is considered the most important and largest aquarium in Mexico and Latin America.
One the best aquariums around the world I visited. The shark diving was excellent and loved it all the way . The picture you take with the dolphin 🐬 kissing on your cheek is just ossum. We missed to get the tickets for penguin 🐧 play time where you can play with penguin 🐧 in personal time of around 30 minutes. Would love to do that on my next visit to it .
CRAZY A — Google review
A lovely experience at the Aquarium today! It’s bigger than I expected with a lot of rooms and spaces for different species. I went on a weekday around 3pm and it was pretty empty. Lovely to walk around and learn about marine life. There’s bathrooms available and a foodcourt right outside the exit once you are done with some little stores.
Darya — Google review
The aquarium is medium-sized. All is display only. They have plenty of souvenir stores inside. They DO NOT have a dolphin show or penguin show. Some of the locals that work around the area claim that they do. So, do not be fooled.
Felipe B — Google review
I was visited before but now is more beautiful. Than before we love it
Ottis B — Google review
Acuario de Veracruz is an amazing experience! The variety of marine life is incredible, and the exhibits are both educational and visually stunning. It’s a perfect spot for families and anyone who loves sea creatures. Highly recommend visiting!

Must visit place in Veracruz for all. Great aquarium with variety of sealife
Dewang D — Google review
Went in to get out of the heat. It was bigger than what we expected. They have a lot of interesting fish and aquatic animals. There are doing some construction so some exhibits were closed. Missing description of fish but we just used Google to look up names of fish. Exciting the aquarium is a food court.

The Zócalo de Veracruz is the heart and soul of this vibrant Gulf city, bustling with life and energy. This lively square is surrounded by an array of bars and restaurants, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring local museums or historical sites. Don’t miss out on La Parroquia for a delightful coffee paired with a sweet pastry as you soak in the atmosphere filled with musicians and street vendors.
Fantastic place to spend an evening with family and friends. With a lot of restaurants, shopping centers, cafes outdoor activities. Loved the church in between.

Nikolay B — Google review
We visited Zócalo de Veracruz a couple of times when we stayed in Veracruz. The architecture is really lovely and there is a nice local vibe. One night there was a band and people dancing in the square. Great spot to enjoy the historical centre.
Zita D — Google review

Beautiful and relaxing little plaza in the heart of historic Veracruz. The church is quite and sobering. There are 3 hotels within sight of the central fountain, with plenty of cafes, restaurants, and street vendors to chose from when the appetite hits. Walking distance from the Malecón, a couple of 200 year old restaurants, and the port itself. Recommended to wind down and recover some energies!

Cafe
Gran Café de la Parroquia is a must-visit gem in Veracruz, especially during the vibrant carnival season. This iconic café buzzes with life, drawing both locals and tourists into its warm embrace. Known for its signature cafe lechero, the atmosphere is filled with live music and festive energy that perfectly captures the spirit of celebration. The café's unique charm lies in its historical ambiance, where uniformed waiters serve steaming pots of milk to create your perfect cup of coffee.
This is a branch of the famous gran café de parroquia, located at the center of Veracruz. While the original one may be busy with long waiting lines, this place offers the same but less crowded. The iconic lechera coffee is a must to order. The food is good too. Also the coffee beans to buy is a very good choice, if you are a coffee fan. The ambiance is also very specific. An experience you must have hanging around in this region.
Sergio R — Google review
The best enchiladas suizas I have had. We also tried the enchiladas with mole. And their leche con cafe is fantastic!! They are a busy place and it can be a while to get things. I took a star cause the waiter could have done better. Make sure you order everything on the first round of orders. The view is amazing if you like eating your meal watching the ocean!!
Erubiel V — Google review
A very playing and unique experience, to breakfast with the view of the sea and it's waves! Besides, the service is good, the place is clean, and it is not noisy. The food very tasty! A little pricy but it's worth the visit!
Lenom C — Google review
It is said that no visit to Veracruz is complete if you don't have a cup of coffee in "La parroquia", I visited this location on a really hot day and decided to eat "al fresco" the ocean breeze was nice, and the atmosphere was great while sipping down a freshly pressed orange juice I deceided on a "milanesa a la veracruzana" which was a terrible mistake. Ambiance and service were great though.

The area offers an array of local seafood dishes for main meals while many vendors provide tourists with souvenirs to take back home. Perfect beach if you want to relax or do activities. Umbrellas are well priced for a day. Food is really close by. Its kid friendly water was clear and clean!
Mark D — Google review
No place to just put your towel, whole beach is occupied with chairs of the nearby restaurants. And they scam you promising the table is free if you buy a drink from them, which is not true, they will force you to pay for it later anyway. Also the sellers bother you literally every minute by offering something.

Really well done exhibits that tell much of the important history of Mexico through its many naval battles. Unfortunately only in Spanish with no English audio guide, so had to make a lot of use of google translate.

Most helpful young man gave me infomation in English. This is a well run aquarium where the birds and the sea creatures and dolphins are cared for so well. Loved my visit there today. The dolphin show was great and the instructors showed so much passion for their dolphins. An awesome experience.

Very big, beautiful museum of the port history, wars to defend Mexico, and the major characters of history. There are interactive technology displays and a childrens area. Everything is in Spanish. I was told by my local travel partner we would have to hire our own local tour guide for English explanation, so I am not sure if English audio, brochures, or assistance is available. You could easily spend 2 hours.

Mercado Hidalgo is a must stop while visiting El Puerto de Veracruz, plenty of places to eat, from tacos, tortas, seafood cocktails plus a great variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, pets etc.The place need a new remodeling it's almost exactly the same as over 30 years ago withe the exception of the meat department. Our very first time here .El Malecon del Puerto de Veracruz. Was so full of life lots of little stands , people selling all kids of things... you can walk, shop drink and see all the things the sell. I bought a couple of things , clothes, coffee mug.. I collect coffee mugs from the places I go. When you take a picture at the sign that says Veracruz, people will take your picture and make a key chain and a portrait to see if you want to buy it, you don't have too. We got to see a the ships sailing and the ones ones coming into the port. It was pretty hot and humid 😫 , I guess because we were by the sea.🌊

Franco G — Google review
Visited in the evening. I could see the potential; it's certainly a very lively and interestingly historic place, but... my personal experience was that there was just too much focus on "making a quick buck" (as your cousins north of the border would say) rather than maintaining a pleasant area to enjoy. The incessant bother of "los vendedores ambulantes" is an unpleasant distraction from what could be an enjoyable evening experience, drinking, dining, listening to the music. As it is, every sentence of conversation has to be punctuated with many repetitions of "no" to someone offering fake watches, palm readings, dodgy pictures, etc. Inevitably it seems that even the historic centre of the city is open to motor vehicle traffic, and that's a real shame; it ought to be a space for people rather than either stationary or fast moving metal.

It is the perfect spot to spend quality time with family and friends while enjoying the lovely scenery and refreshing water activities. Visitors are advised to wear appropriate shoes or sandals for their safety while exploring this wonderful destination.
A paradise for the kids. Good fun for the adults. The queue at the slides where tiny if at all existing. We took a yearly pass and came back 2 more times in the next 10 days considering how much the kids loved it. One downside is that they don't let you enter with food but they are also not super careful so just put it below your towels!
Julien C — Google review
The water was a bit too cold. The staff could be a little more lenient considering that kids are around, and kids can be a handful. Otherwise, the rides were great! I would go there again.
Sammy T — Google review
The staff and manager are very good, very friendly and good communication. The rides are sufficient if a little old. The guards are very strict about height and my daughter was initially told she couldn't ride the big slides as she was 1cm too small. The manager corrected this. Its a fun place but the BIG downside is the price. We paid 100USD (2100 MX) THIS IS WAY TOO MUCH. We've been to waterparks across Europe and Asia and this is no way near value for money. I don't know how people can afford this. There should atleadt be a family ticket available. Our children are 1, 4 , 6 years old. The owners are not being smart or considerate. We would not return because of this. Again it's a very average park with nice staff but MASSIVELY OVERPRICED.
Ross F — Google review
Awesome place, you can spend full day in their facilities. There are activities if you like strong emotions or if you have small children. Place IA safe, and the staff is always protecting people. You will have a lot of fun.
Carlos S — Google review
This water park surpassed my expectations. We came on a cloudy day and at first there were very few visitors. It got busier afterwards but it never felt crowded. The amenities are safe and well looked after and there are plenty of things to do. I'm not a person who is easily convinced to go to slides but I had a lot of fun and so did my kids. Also, the stuff is exceptionally friendly and well trained to deal with different situations (my kid got very nervous on one of the big slides). I would recommend considering getting an anual membership if you are in the area as the price is just marginally different from the day pass, I personally regretted not having bought one.
Ingrid O — Google review
Great place to spend the day; whether you are going alone, in couple or with family & friends, a lot of fun in any case. I went with friends & family; there are attractions to all ages. We went two days in a row. A lot of fun. Don't miss the boomerango slide with your group, where you can share your experience with another 4 people face to face, and will be watching expressions and fun screams you might have not heard or seen in a while. Don't forget to bring aqua-socks/shoes, which are allowed in most attractions.

We came from the United States with our two year old. It is very nice/clean /spacious but they played American music with disgusting lyrics and cuss words. I finally had to ask them to change the music to family friendly music. If you want your kids to listen to cursing the entire day then it’s comfortable. Otherwise expect to hear crude “shaking a** fu** “ nasty cardi b rap music the whole time. Also, you cannot assist your children down slides. Even if they cannot swim they have to go alone. Doesn’t make sense to me. They said it’s a “liability” for us to assist our child.

The Museum of the City is a place where visitors can delve into the history and culture of Veracruz. The museum offers an exploration of the city's development through displays, large posters, and photos that depict various invasions and social developments. It also features a courtyard for concerts, shows, and events. Visitors can learn about the city's historic background as well as local artwork while exploring nearby attractions such as Baluarte de Santiago and Barrio de la Huaca.
Great local museum and community center. Did I mention that entrance is free? You will learn a lot about the history of Veracruz and it's development. Please be mindful that most of the exhibits are in Spanish. Still, well worth a visit just to get a feel for the history of this historic city. 500 years and counting!
Dark S — Google review
Free, there are people waiting to be guides for tips at the entrance. Small but interesting exhibits mainly in Spanish with a few English translations.
Rachael D — Google review
Displays, large posters and photos lead the visitor through Veracruz's lively history, including various invasions by the USA and the French. The longer texts are mostly in Spanish but small explanations under displays are given in English and French. There is a fascinating section on mid-1950s social developments, including the founding of a tenants union with mostly women members, and the warm welcome of the Spanish republicans fleeing Franco's regime in 1939. Also impactful for me was learning that the 'danzon' event regularly held in the main park (zócalo)stems from music-loving Caribbean immigrants. Cubans brought their music as well as baseball to this port city, contributing to the local flair. Oh, and there are also some impressive pre-hispanic Olmec carved figures as well as a replica of the 'colossal heads' if you didn't see an original one. A wonderful free museum just minutes from the zócalo.

Museum
Specialty Museums
Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, located in Veracruz, is a unique point of interest to explore after visiting the aquarium. The museum is situated near Museo de Cera (the wax museum) in the same plaza and offers an intriguing experience for visitors. Additionally, there is a small food court within the plaza for convenience.
Great place, but a few rooms are a little hot. Great exhibits
J N — Google review
The museum was very interesting but due to the air conditioning only being turned on in one room, the conditions were too unbearable to enjoy all of the exhibits. We didn’t spend much time in the museum, which is a shame, because we were sweating through our clothes. I asked an employee why they weren’t running the air conditioning and he answered because of COVID. That answer would be acceptable two or even one year ago, but today it is an excuse. I would not recommend Ripley’s until they turn their air conditioning on!
Chris S — Google review
It all can be seen on the internet, but if it's raining and you have to stay inside than you can spend 30 minutes.
Mersida B — Google review
Why as it so hot inside? I saw the AC's but good lord, people are wearing masks and you are soo hot. Its hard to enjoy it. The museum was neat, very good price in Comparison to the US. I had been waiting for years to go and finally was able to afford it here.
LYVICK P — Google review
Not as great as the Ripley’s collections at other countries but ok to pass some time. Atleast did not get as crowded as the aquarium or the wax museum so one had the space to oneself.

Great place. A guide will take a group of people around the exhibit where you can see hundreds of crocodiles. Big and small, you can also buy the crocodile hide and meat and other items.
Iguana — Google review
Quite the scam actually. The free entrance for one with toll booth ticket does not apply to the long tour. The long tour also DOES NOT always feed the crocodiles, so ask beforehand. If they don't feed the crocodiles it is NOT worth the money. The guides are quite knowledgeable, but the office staff are cranky. Also there is 4% charge for using a credit card so bring cash. They say it is a 50 minute tour but it took 2 hrs, most of it waiting on people to take pictures. It's a tourist trap.

The tour is not bad.. but the office staff are lacking in basic social skills... Very rude... Type of people who seem bothered to do their job and take your money... Would it kill her to smile? We went on the longer tour... Had to pay per car... But were charged extra for a 5 year old... Advertised we would see them feed the crocodiles... But no... Overall, a big disappointment. Several Crocs with neurological problems and other deformities...

In addition, Paola and Toti are great hosts, always willing to help with anything. Definitely a must for locals, and for anyone visiting Veracruz. Great plate. It was annoying that they had policies about wearing their own socks. They didn’t allow for us to bring our own socks. That felt more like a ripoff. Other than that, they were good. The playground was cool.
Sammy T — Google review
(Translated by Google) I tell you my experience, I recommend that you read it if you want to attend the place. 1.- The place is unfortunately in a very unpleasant area, since it is in the center and in the technology plaza, but it has its own parking, although it is very expensive for my taste (25 pesos per hour or fraction thereof). 2.- The internal facilities are kept in good condition, it seems to me perhaps that they have not been around for much time and therefore are still in good condition. 3.- The games are mostly for children but they are fun, even a grown-up can have fun. 4.- The attention, very important, some people are friendly and others very little, but the cashiers look like they want to give zero information, I half informed myself through networks but no one commented on the use of socks, they are not really necessary for all the games and they don't tell you that, they tell you to buy them but they don't tell you that many games are played with tennis shoes, however in order to sell the socks they don't tell you anything. If you are not going to jump on the bounce house, DO NOT BUY THE SOCKS, they are not necessary, you can play "gotcha", climb the wall, walk on the ropes that are all over the ceiling, play laser tag without socks. If you are an adult, I recommend not even buying a package for yourself, buy only for your children with their socks. Do not buy the package that says “human claw” Because the prizes are cheaper than those at the town fairs, but if you want to buy it it is better to do so inside the facility because they sell it for 99 pesos. I have nothing to say about the food since I didn't eat there but let's see, you are going to play not eat, it is a space to have fun not to go eat, if you want a good meal go to a restaurant. 5.- The prices seem fair for children, 180 for the package that includes all the attractions with their respective socks, if it is for the little ones it is fine. (I recommend buying online on Tuesdays, they are 2x1). Of course, they charge you I think 59 pesos per companion, that is, if you go with your two children, you only pay 59 pesos and you're in, although you won't be able to play. In conclusion, I recommend not buying an attraction package if you are an adult, buy your child the 180 that comes with all the games except human claw, go at a good time because there is not enough time to play all the games because there are many people, but it is a great place for children to have fun. I would take my little brother again but this time I wouldn't buy a package for myself, much less the socks that the women at the entrance made me buy (which, by the way, I didn't even use for the games I played). 3 stars for prices and facilities. I take away one star for the poor recommendation of the cashiers for not correctly informing them about the use of socks. And I take away another star because some attractions are not 100% open, due to lack of staff, which makes the waiting time longer.

(Translated by Google) The place is located in the Plaza de la Tecnología in Veracruz. There's parking, and I recommend staying in the parking lot since the area is very ugly. For safety reasons, it's best to park in the parking lot. If you're going for the first time, they'll charge you for the socks. My daughter was wearing her own (I'll clarify if they were non-slip, as requested), and the girl was so annoying that if you didn't buy the ones from the place, you couldn't get in. It's a place for older kids, all the way up to adults. If you're planning on going with small children, I don't recommend it. There are only two attractions for them, and to top it all off, they're neglected, and the ball pit has a broken slide and is in poor condition. The basic package is for kids, but I insist it's not worth it. The package that includes climbing, jumping, and other attractions is for older children. If only the kids are going to have fun, I recommend they pay for the kids' package and the adult only pays for their companion ticket. Unfortunately, they don't provide much information upon entry, and the cashiers don't explain anything and just push you to pay for more. They charged me for the package when I was only entering as a companion, and I didn't even go on it and didn't even plan on going on the rides. At first, the cashier treated us very rudely and despotically. We reported it, but they ignored us. The place inside is very small, nothing like the Facebook photos, and they don't show the weather. The day we went, we were extremely hot. Personally, I don't recommend it much.

(Translated by Google) My daughter was delighted with the place, it is a place for children and adults with less expense of no more than $ 200 pesos per person and a maximum you spend about $ 800 to $ 1000 per family but you have a super incredible time, the truth is I really liked the way the people treated the children, super friendly and with good attention and attitude, there are games for very young children, little ones and older ones and adults and always with adult supervision, I loved the atmosphere and my daughter and her mother too, we were all calm and quite entertained, I loved it and when you buy entrance tickets they include some socks to wear inside and take them as a souvenir, we loved it. (Translated by Google) I have done two jobs with the teacher Alexey and both worked very well, the second was in the Apolo studio where the truth is the attention is good, the facilities are of a high level, the hygiene measures are well carried out and all the artists who are there are very good, I am already considering visiting them again. (Translated by Google) I loved the experience. The place is super clean, the atmosphere is relaxed and professional, and the service was incredible from the moment I arrived. I felt very comfortable the entire time; they listened to what I wanted, and the result was just how I imagined it. I would definitely come back for my next tattoo.
