Nature & Wildlife Areas
Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Garden, located in Padrecocha near Iquitos, is a unique attraction that serves as a sanctuary and rehabilitation center for rescued wildlife from the Amazon Rainforest. The name "Pilpintuwasi" means house of butterflies in Quechua, reflecting its status as the only butterfly farm in Peru. Initially established as an animal orphanage, it now cares for abandoned or injured Amazonian wildlife.
Excellent place that I visited with my family. The lady who runs it has great knowledge and passion for the animals. It started off as a butterfly farm but has grown into an animal sanctuary for rescued animals that can’t be released back into the wild for various reasons. She also works to educate people on how to protect the beautiful and varied species of the Amazon instead of exploiting them. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and would recommend this to anyone visiting the area. You walk in an enclosure to keep you away from the animals so they are more free to roam. They encourage natural behaviour of the animals and less human interaction which is best for them. A genuine rescue centre and not just built for tourists or to make money. The people here are genuine and put the animals in their care above anything else.

Beautiful place, beautiful animals and beautiful people - working towards this mission. Hearing and seeing the animals stories; pre and now post Pilpintuwasi, was very inspiring. The entrance is at the end of a bend in the road. Theres a big sign at this bend in the road. Walk down a little hill and will see a Maloka on your left. Pilpintuwasi will be on the right in front of an open clearing by the river with a concrete pillar path. Give them a visit 💚 I had a great time and learned so much. 🦋

Great animal sanctuary! We had really interesting Tour with the Woman who runs the place with a lot of Love and passion. I can totally recommend a visit!
Caro L — Google review
They do great work. Actually rescuing animals where possible, instead of using them as tourist bait for profit. Tour guides will not willingly bring you here, since they do not get a cut like they do at the fake rescue centers where you can take picture with the animals. It’s easy to get here yourself; just check their website.

We had an amazing tour with Junior. He was very thorough and passionate. We loved our time. I recommend messaging them on instagram/emailing them in advance to get clear instructions on how to get there or do a guided tour that includes pick up. Was amazing and so worth it.
Lucy C — Google review
This is a very beautiful place owned by an amazing person who has a genuine dedication to take care of these animals, some of which have been treated horribly in their past. She does this very well, and can tell you a lot about these animals during the tour. Absolutely amazing place that you don't want to miss <3

An easy 20 minute destination by boat from Bellavista-Nanay port of Iquitos is the village of Padre Coche. The sanctuary has got to be one of the best attractions and is on the outskirts of the village. Well known by the tuk-tuk drivers it will take about 5 minutes to reach but I enjoyed the walk there from my lodging & it is easy to find on your own if preferred. From the road, a forested path leads to the gated tunnel enclosure. I made no booking and was met by the owner Gudrun who welcomed me & explained that a volunteer would guide me, as she needed to take a hurt monkey to the vet. The venue has a very natural rustic appeal with a nicely laid out butterfly enclosure, through which I was lead by a pleasant English speaking volunteer, who explained the breeding program of the butterfly species natural to the area. The highlight for many people will likely be the animal enclosures, with a number of different monkeys, a giant ant-eater as well as Ocelot and Jaguar and small variety of birds and other rescued animals. The animals are in good condition notwithstanding the traumatised backgrounds they experienced in the past. Run by the very dedicated expat owner and her team for many years, this sanctuary and its volunteer assistants, are a blessing to the area and deserve strong support from the public. I took a public river-taxi & at the time of writing was only Sol 3/- or if preferred a private boat taxi will hit you for Sol 20/- each way. A must visit if in Iquitos as the trip out there is itself an interesting experience and the sanctuary worthy of support as well as being a great way to spend part of the day.
Kelvin A — Google review
Some cool animals to look at and they definitely make it a point to clarify their purpose of rescuing animals that are injured or former house pets. Liked the coati and anteater in particular. Jaguar, toucan and a red faced monkey which I had never seen before.

Architectural Buildings
Casa de Fierro, located in a tree-lined square, is a prefabricated iron building designed by Gustave Eiffel. Originally the home of a rubber baron, it now accommodates a pharmacy and restaurant on its second floor. The structure was forged in Europe and transported to its current location in sections via the Atlantic and Amazon River for assembly.
Amazing place based on the history and location we wanted to have a beer to relax and stayed for a few. The staff is amazing and paying attention to you 100%. We are considering to go for dinner now. The only thing is that we feel is wrong is that the staff has to wear long black pants and shirts in this heat. Shorts or skirts with short sleeve specially outside. That’s the only reason why we might not go back but the location is fantastic and so is the staff
Tom H — Google review
We came to this restaurant mainly due to the lack of decent dining options in this city. Its location, story, and online reviews caught our attention, so my partner and I decided to give it a try for lunch. From the outside, the place looks stunning—stylish, upscale, and very promising. We sat on the terrace, which has a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service didn’t match the visual appeal. Despite the place being almost empty, we had to get up and interrupt our conversation multiple times—three or four, to be exact—just to get the attention of the staff. It was disappointing to receive such inattentive service in a place that positions itself as high-end. We started with drinks and then ordered our food. We were curious about the Ceviche Amazónica, which sounded interesting. While the prices are not outrageously expensive, they’re certainly above average, so we expected a bit more in terms of portion size and overall experience. Sadly, the dish felt rather small for the price. What really surprised us was the additional 8% “service fee” added to the bill. This might be normal in the U.S. or certain parts of Europe, but we live in Lima and frequently dine at upscale places—this is the first time we’ve encountered a charge like this in Peru. It felt like an unnecessary and slightly exploitative gesture, perhaps targeted at the tourist-heavy location near a major hotel. Overall, the whole experience left us unimpressed. The food wasn’t bad, but not memorable enough to justify a return—especially not with poor service, small portions, and an unexpected extra charge. It felt like a place trying too hard to be international, yet missing the basics of good hospitality. We won’t be coming back.
Elif B — Google review
My husband and I had an amazing experience here! Pablo and the entire staff were warm, friendly, and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious — we especially loved the chicken with Amazonian sauce, which was beautifully prepared along with the drinks. The building’s history added an extra charm, giving us a touch of “New Orleans vibes.” The view was lovely, and we even enjoyed the lively sounds of tuk-tuks passing by. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting!

Nice ambience, wonderful fair, excellent grilled dishes. One of the best options in Iquitos.
Claudia D — Google review
Amazing restaurant in iconic building. Prices are high compared to Peruvian standards but the service and the food were worth it. It was our last night in Peru and we were super satisfied.
Anna G — Google review
We ran into the restaurant while walking The Plaza de Armas. The small door (check one of the pictures I downloaded) or entrance is on Putumayo street. Go to the second floor and will find the restaurant. The place itself looks real nice and comfy. You also have private sections or the balcony with small tables, preferably for couples. The Camu Camu frozen was outstanding. Coconut juice was also great. Food was delicious and filling. Our favorite dessert was the Camu Camu Cheesecake. Our Waitress, Jesus was always attentive to our needs and real helpful. She deserves a 5 star review.
Allenby C — Google review
The starter chips and salsa was so yummy. Everything on the menu was wonderful, we all loved the different Ceviche options. We can there everyday and ordered something new each time.

I was disappointed after visited this place. The prices doesn’t correspond to quality. Everything in the menu is expensive, but quality is poor. Vegetarian food here is complete fail. They brought me plate with ordinary rice and vegetables with nothing! Just frozen vegetables that they tried to fry. It was so tasteless. I ordered gnocchi with mushrooms as well and mushrooms were kind of apart from this dish, it’s a shame! There is no WiFi for guests. I cannot believe it’s possible in 2023 (digital era!). I didn’t like they included 8% on top of the bill as tips. The waitress wasn’t able to show me in their Instagram how the dishes looks like…

Peruvian restaurant
Nestled on the tranquil Itaya River, Al Frio y al Fuego is a unique floating restaurant that promises an unforgettable dining experience. To reach this gem, simply step through a modest entrance on Avenida La Marina and take a scenic boat ride from their private dock. The journey itself is part of the adventure, as you glide across the water in a traditional dugout canoe.
Five star service in the middle of the Amazon. From New York, and did not expect it to be as good as it was. * the service was great. The waiter came over every few minutes to check up on us. * the menu has a wide variety of drinks and foods. * I took my tour guide and his assistant out to lunch. It was around 3 PM. It wasn’t too full, the music wasn’t too loud. We sat upstairs, which is fancier, you can always pick downstairs by the pool, which is more chill. * everything was really clean, I even have a custom to check the bathroom for cleanliness before I eat at a restaurant , and it was spotless. If the bathroom is clean, the kitchen is probably clean too. Free transportation by boat. if you want a really cool experience with five star level food in a great and unique environment, in the middle of an Amazon river! definitely try this place out.
Joey R — Google review
We arrived by boat from a different port, which cost us 20 soles, but were pleasantly surprised to take the restaurant’s boat back free of charge. I came here for dinner with a friend, and overall, it was a great experience. We started with the Causa con Salsa de Langostinos as an appetizer, followed by the Patarashca and Doncella al Ajo for our main dishes — all of which were delicious. The Selva Punch was refreshingly good and paired nicely with the meal. That said, the service could use some improvement. We had to flag down our waiter for everything — from placing our drink and food orders to requesting the bill. At no point did the waiter check in on us voluntarily to see if everything was okay. The pool area was lovely. While I didn’t get in, my friend did and really enjoyed his time there.

Floating restaurant on the Amazon river! Free shuttle to/from, lovely views, great service, tasty food, clean establishment, friendly staff. 2nd floor has best views of the sunset. Recommend making a reservation if visiting on weekends.

Bring a towel! Definitely a "can't miss" experience. The food was delicious, the drinks were strong, and the pool offered a refreshing respite on a hot day. There was a bit of a sudden downpour, but the staff were very quick to act and made sure everyone was into the main restaurant before it got bad. The only thing I would change is making sure it is more obvious that towels are not provided. We were caught unaware. Would definitely go again!

Cafe
Dawn On The Amazon Café is a versatile dining spot in Iquitos, offering an extensive menu suitable for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Whether you're craving Peruvian favorites, American comfort food, or international dishes, this café has something to satisfy every palate. In addition to soups and salads, there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available. The café's location along the riverside strip provides excellent views for people-watching while enjoying your meal.
Amazing restaurant with really great, nay amazing, vegan bowl options!!! Been here 4 times in my short stay in Iquitos. The staff is super friendly (we had good laughs with them), clean restaurant and patio with a view! My favorite is the fish with the brown rice. I've never had brown rice with Brazil nuts before, and this dish just blew me away! I highly recommend that one!
Albert L — Google review
Great, large menu with a large selection of regional and international dishes. Reasonable prices! Beautiful view of the river. Took almost an hour to get our food as we sat in the hot sun, but maybe it was just not their fastest day!
Ally G — Google review
I LOVED this place. It’s the one thing I miss the most since leaving Iquitos. I was in Iquitos for 2 weeks, and found out about it half way through, and since then had been going there every single morning until I left, even though my hotel package included a nice and expensive breakfast. When my family visited for the last few days, sometimes we ate all three meals there. What I love about it -1) the view. Sit outside and face the amazon river. Can't beat that. 2) the juices /smoothies -unlike typical American ones which taste so artificial or overly sweet, these are all natural ingredient, made fresh with local produce, and taste amazing. 3) the food. They have great selection of food here, including peruvian, american (with a local spin ofc), you can find interesting food, plain food, vegetarian food, comfort food, and more. All so well made. 4) the staff. speak english, have english menu. very helpful and friendly. Sometimes the food is served a little slow, but that's the same everywhere in Iquitos honestly, and I don't mind bird watching on the river while waiting for my food.
Mengchuan L — Google review
Dinner with a view! Don't know if it's like this everyday, but today, a Friday, it was very nice to sit here and watch all the activity on the boulevard. There is an extended menu with plenty of vegetarian, vegan and Ayahuasca diet options. It I would be here longer I would have lunch or dinner at this café more often!
Noortje B — Google review
My go-to cafe when I'm back in Iquitos. They have a great selection of food, post ceremony!
Metsa V — Google review
The staff are amazing & as said in another review speak very good English which is always a plus for me! We are vegan and ate here almost every meal. They cater to vegans SO well and the staff are very knowledgeable about it. Wouldn’t hesitate to visit!! Oh also the view is insane.
Abby M — Google review
What a gem! I can't give enough positive feedback. There is an amazing view of the river from the table. The menu is extensive, and offers a variety of gluten free and Ayahuasca diet friendly options. Everything is washed and/or made with purified water as well, so there's no risk of bacterial contamination for tourists! This is actually the only restaurant my partner and I are at the entire trip, and we have no regrets! The menu is large enough that we never ran out of new choices. We will be back next time for sure, and will recommend it to anyone we know will be traveling though the area.
Taylor B — Google review
Food was decent but unfortunately it was overshadowed by the restaurant proprietor refusing to accept a credit card transaction because he was too lazy to start up his machine. I was forced to use cash that I was going to use for a taxi but nope had to use it here. They have sign on their windows saying they accepted every card I had so you know be aware of that.

Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Iquitos is part of the unique and historically rich architecture found in the city's historic center. Unlike other cities in Peru, such as Lima, Trujillo, and Cuzco, Iquitos' buildings were constructed with climatic considerations that resulted in a distinct Amazonian design. The conservation of this area is a priority for the city, with over 70 historical buildings including landmarks like Plaza de Armas and the lively Belen neighborhood.
“Déjate guiar, con fe y razón!” The priest is truly inspiring. Gracias 🙏 Beyond that, the atmosphere in the church is absolutely mesmerizing. You can feel the good energy flowing through you, radiating from all the kind and faithful people gathered there. It’s like experiencing pure „esperanza“. While I’m fluent in Spanish and understood most of the sermon, I noticed the acoustics aren’t the best — something to keep in mind if your Spanish isn’t strong. Still, even without fully understanding the words, it’s worth visiting for the incredible energy and uplifting atmosphere.

(Translated by Google) It is prominently neo-Gothic in style, as an important choice for the medieval Gothic style, and rejecting the neoclassical style as a clear separation from a nationalist presentation. Similar to Wells Cathedral, Iquitos Cathedral's analog clock is influenced by traditional Roman numerals, using IIII instead of IV. Historically, the numerical style is very predominant in many European clocks, and this would provide important data on the origin of the Iquitos Cathedral clock. Ornament Considered the most elaborate temple in the city in terms of architecture and painting, the cathedral has important works of art including exquisite oil paintings and murals. It is characterized by a charged design, especially in the 800 m² Great Hall. There is an oil mural, called the Triptych of the High Altar, located at the top of the main altar, with a very Amazonian style, made by César Calvo de Araujo: on the left, is the consecration to the Virgin Mary in memory of the anniversary of the Brotherhood of the Daughters of Mary; In the center, there is the Virgin Mary in a symbolic appearance on the Amazon River in front of a primitive City of Iquitos; and on the right, the Augustinian missionaries are witnessed evangelizing in the Napo area with an image of Mrs. del Buen Consejo, patron saint of the Augustinian missions. Under the Triptych, a wooden replica of the Cathedral is located. To the right of the main altar, there is a European-style pulpit. Other great attractions are the Vault of the Iquitos Cathedral with multiple divine characters, with a style similar to the Sistine Chapel.

Located in the floating shantytown of Belen, Mercado Belen is a vibrant marketplace offering an authentic Amazonian experience. With its bustling atmosphere and diverse offerings, the market provides a glimpse into local life, featuring fresh produce, traditional medicines, handcrafted goods, and indigenous items unique to Iquitos and the Amazon. As you wander through this lively market, you'll encounter alligator barbecuing, spell-casting services, jewelry, skulls, and various other intriguing finds.
This is a hard thing to rate. It is a market for locals, and in that regard, it's amazing. The variety of food, produce, and products is astounding. My wife and I found it to be safe, but we kept our heads about us. I definitely felt some eyes on us as we walked around, but we stopped occasionally and let folks pass and kept our eyes open. It was worth it to me to get to see the local fish and fruits. It's very busy, you will probably get pushed a bit, they don't make a big deal for tourists, if you're in the way, you'll get moved. But I liked that you didn't feel catered to like so many locations in Peru.
Will S — Google review
You know you're in Perú when you visit this market. Lots of local tropical fruit and vegetables as well as foods considered as delicacies (grilled crocodile feet and grubs). A great place to visit to get a feel of the culture and local people.

Earthy and busy & varied. A very large example of a typical market. Live & processed chickens, fish of many types, anaconda skin, grains, vegetables being sold by families. Upper market seemed quite safe.

Absolutely interesting to visit. Reading some of the comments we were expecting a very dirty and smelly market filled with animal rights violations...but the truth was very different. It's an interesting mix of fruits, vegetables and animals. Feel free to be adventurous and try different things.
Stijn F — Google review
First of all, it’s a local market for local so don’t expect nothing. It’s very tight, very long and branching, most of the market is dedicated for local food groceries and it can be tough for outsiders. Yes, I recommend to go there for the experience but in August it was really hot 🥵, tip, bit an ice cream before 😬

Cheap food and fruits, super dirty, better to go in the mornning everything will be fresh and less garbage.

Many shops, but standards could be improved as it can be a bit dirty and unsanitary. That said, S/ 8 for a delicious plate of food can't be beat. You can find literally anything you would want in Mercado Belén.
Gent S — Google review
This is my personal opinion: I found this market to be quite unpleasant. The streets were littered with plastic, bottles, and other trash, and there was a strong, unpleasant odor—especially near the meat stalls. The level of poverty was striking and honestly heartbreaking. Seeing so many people struggling, including individuals who appeared to be battling addiction, left me feeling sad and heavy. I genuinely don’t understand why anyone would pay 125 soles to visit a place like this—it felt more like exploitation than an educational or cultural experience. I believe tours should be more thoughtful about the places they highlight.

Retreat center
Awkipuma Healing Center in Peru offers a transformative and deeply healing experience. Nestled in the heart of the jungle, this retreat provides a serene and natural setting for guests to embark on their journey. The team at Awkipuma is dedicated to ensuring the comfort and safety of all participants, creating a supportive environment for the Ayahuasca ceremonies. Guests have reported feeling a profound sense of clarity and contentment after their time at Awkipuma, praising the hospitality of Alfonso and his family.
I recommend Awikpuma. It is a well run retreat, with Alfonso and his inlaws (they are the Sharmans). We were picked up in Iquitos and enjoyed the 2 hr boat ride down the Amazon to the community. The information before and during was clear, although I used fellow participants to assist with translating Spanish into English. The food was simple, vegetarian and plentiful but not much variety. The accommodation was simple and a big hot shed but it was cool that the windows were totally fly screened (connected to the jungle). The Ayahuasca room was a nice hexagonal shaped room with fly screens to the outdoors as well. The ceremony used voice and drums with leaf shakers and for me the medicine was effective and a good experience. There were women there to assist me to go to the bathroom and to bed. There were enjoyable activities in the afternoon where we walked to a small waterfall in the river and we were given a cleansing ceremony with Mapacho. We went by the small boat to a local village on another day and had fun with the villagers and enjoyed swimming in their waterhole. I felt safe and supported here.

My experience at Awkipuma Spiritual Center in the Amazon jungle of Iquitos was truly life-changing. From the very beginning, I felt a deep sense of safety, respect, and care. Alfonso and the maestros work with small groups, offering close and personalized guidance throughout the retreat. The ayahuasca ceremonies are carried out with profound respect and sacredness, which allowed me to open my heart, release emotional burdens, and find the inner peace I had been seeking for years. If you are searching for inner healing, spiritual clarity, or a deeper connection with yourself, I wholeheartedly recommend experiencing Awkipuma 🌿✨. This is not just a retreat — it is a true path of transformation.

I would just like to start by saying there is nothing negative I could say about this beautiful family, they are the most kind hearted, generous people you will ever meet. From the food that was prepared and provided for us to the beautiful ceremonies that were so carefully planned out and taken place. It was such a blessing to have received such amazing support from the Awkipuma family, I left feeling so loved by every single one of them, not just from the family but what this beautiful medicine was able to provide me, with such peace, clarity and answers I came to the jungle for! The entire Awkipuma family will forever hold such a special place in my heart, and without a doubt I will be returning to the beloved jungle in the near future.

This was the most peaceful, positive experience I’ve had in my life . The care and attention provided by Alfonso and the Awkipuma family were exceptional. The centre was beautifully located in the jungle and there were lots of dogs at the centre which I was delighted with. Thanks to my new brother , Alfonso and the rest of the family for taking such good care of me . I would recommend the Awkipuma centre to anyone. Five star experience.

Profoundly amazing experience with Shaman Bladimir at Awkipuma! Before the ceremony, we spent ample time speaking with Bladimir (discussing consciousness, the conflict between nature and human constructs, etc.); he was patient and spent whatever time we wanted to ensure we felt prepared and comfortable with him and the space. At the scheduled time later that night, we met back at the maloca for the ceremony, which was in complete darkness, surrounded by the myriad life and sounds of the singular Amazon rainforest. Bladimir respectfully and effectively executed his role of guide and protector throughout the 3-hour ceremony. Unlike some retreats where the guide chants over recorded music, Bladimir customizes the icaros he sings to invoke the spirits of nature and ward off potential negative spirits/energy throughout your journey. At the end of the 3 hours, my experience was still pretty intense, so his employee Jesús stayed in the maloca with us until we felt comfortable walking back to our room. The next morning, we had a casual debrief with Bladimir, over a fresh breakfast of local fruits and pineapple rind "tea" prepared by his wife, before we all headed back to Tamshiyacu. If you are open—not only to the medicinal experience, but to the simplicity of the Amazon in a way that jettisons your first-world expectations (of how companies should communicate, logistics should operate, and you should be catered to), then you'll be able to transcend consciousness (as well as your pesky ego) and appreciate the beautiful service that Awkipuma provides.

Thank you ! thank you thank you. I was introduced to Mama Aya with this group. I was safe and comfortable and cared for. They helped and guided. They fed us and ensured we had great sleeping quarters.. They allowed us to rest and his family took care of us like their own. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 During the ceremony. I felt safe and watched over. It created an alignment that I dreamt of. I came out of the ceremony with tears of joy and happiness that momma aya chose to meet me at this sacred place. Traveling alone as a woman or man is still safe here. I highly recommend

We had the most amazing healing experience with the Awikpuma family in the Amazon jungle and we will never forget the love and kindness they showed us. They shared their beautiful home with us and made us feel so welcome. The homecooked food was so delicious, healthy and organic. We took 3 ceremonies and have grown spiritually as well as feeling cleansed and healed. We asked for truth and we received clarity. We will most definitely return.

Hello everyone, I traveled alone to the Amazon jungle to experience ayahuasca, and honestly, I was a little nervous at first… but everything changed the moment I arrived at Awkipuma Spiritual Center. I was welcomed with warmth, kindness, and genuine care. Alfonso and his team made me feel safe, supported, and part of a spiritual family in the heart of the Amazon. 🌿 The place is magical — surrounded by pure nature, the sounds of the jungle, and a deep sense of peace. The ayahuasca ceremonies were powerful and full of love, guided with wisdom and respect. I never felt alone; every step of the process was cared for with attention and empathy. Coming alone was one of the best decisions of my life. At Awkipuma, I found healing, clarity, and a profound connection with myself and life. If you’re thinking about coming to the jungle, don’t hesitate — Awkipuma is a safe, authentic, and truly transformative place.

Guests can choose from fourteen spacious suites, including four master suites featuring stunning 180-degree panoramic windows that invite the lush rainforest right into your room. The experience was fantastic. The boat and room was very clean and large. Everything on board was included such as pisco sours, all the meals and more. The staff aswell were great. Ours guides Javier and Ricardo were funny and knowledgeable. The barmen Richard and Elias made fantastic drinks when we had rest moments. The excursions were amazing and while there is never a guarantee to see all the wildlife, we were able to see hawks, king fischers, dancing birds, tamarind monkeys, squirrel monkeys, sloths, dolphins, caimens, dart frogs, dragon lizard, tarantulas and many more. Make sure you are quiet during the Amazon walks. Remember this is not a zoo for instant gratification, it takes effort and patience. Thanks Delfin for a wonderful trip!

Spectacular, beyond our imagination! The food was superb, the well-stocked bar was always open, and the service was better than a luxury hotel, and I've stayed in many over the years. I recently returned from an unforgettable trip with Delfin Amazon Cruises. From start to finish, the crew was absolutely lovely. They were attentive and genuinely committed to making every moment special. The food onboard was delicious, with every meal thoughtfully prepared and full of fresh, local flavors. Dining on the river felt like such a treat. But the highlight of the trip was the wildlife. I was surrounded by an incredible variety of birds, and seeing the pink river dolphins in their natural habitat was magical. Those moments will stay with me forever. If you’re considering an Amazon adventure, I wholeheartedly recommend Delfin. It was everything I hoped for and more.

(Translated by Google) Dolphin cruising is something we should all do at least once in our lives. The views along the Marañón River are amazing, several excursions are scheduled to view animals in their natural state. Being surrounded by the sound of nature and being able to disconnect for a few days from the cell phone, the networks, the problems, is an almost impossible luxury in these times. First class service, great food, we were even able to go fishing for piranhas for our lunch 😂 I recommend it 100% (Original) El crucero en el delfín es algo que todos deberíamos hacer por lo menos una vez en nuestras vidas. The guide took me and another person for a tour of the local market. The tour was good, but when I asked how much the tour would cost, I was told to pay a tip, based on how much I felt was appropriate at the end. The tour was around 2 hours, we had to pay for the guides drinks, river crossing and tuk tuk, and then when it came to paying, he appeared very upset and pushed for more money, stating that some people pay 150sol (I initially only had 80sol on me and felt that this was more than acceptable). I would advise the guide to set an average tip amount, before the tour starts, so people can make an informed choice on whether you would still want to do the tour or not. Overall the experience at the end was a very uncomfortable due to how upset he appeared to be.

The Boat Museum, located within the historic Ayapua steamship, offers a fascinating glimpse into the rich history of Iquitos during the rubber boom of the 19th century. Visitors can explore various artifacts that tell stories of both prosperity and exploitation faced by native communities during this era. The museum showcases an array of books, articles, and newspaper excerpts that provide context to this significant period. A great place to visit to get the feel of Iquitos before 1921 . And on top of this they showed the film Fitzcaraldo. I really enjoyed watching the film on the boat , On the river. It was a great experience . What a great ideas . Unfortunately the film lacked the last minutes. 10 sols don't hesitate .

Lovely small museum of the history of Iquitos and the Amazon, with a special focus on the rubber trade. I leaned lots of fascinating things that gave me more appreciation for the town and region, and the simple exhibits really helped bring to life a very different era in Iquitos, when there was so much wealth, some families would ship their laundry to London to be washed. For your entrance fee (10 Sol?) they include a really nice 30 min boat tour on the river in a small boat. We took this just at sunset, and it was a great way to unwind from our day, and get some more perspective on the relationship the river plays in the modem life of Iquitos.

Essentially, it is a three-story construction and a corner tower. Its construction was directed between 1908 and 1912 by the Peruvian civil engineer Samuel Young Mass and the Spanish architect José Altamira y Motta commissioned by Otoniel Vela. It was an important luxury hotel during the rubber rush that housed European rubber tappers and merchants. It is considered the first luxury hotel in Peru as it is 12 years older than the Gran Hotel Bolívar located in Lima. It is considered the maximum expression of Iquiteño architecture. Its construction had to undergo changes and adaptations to accommodate the tropical environment of the city. Currently, it has been the headquarters of the Eastern Military Region offices since 1961. All elements were transported across the Atlantic. The tiles were brought from Malaga, with "reminiscences of the architecture of Antoni Gaudí", containing Gothic and neoclassical elements. The building notably includes a complex design, wrought iron with plant shapes on the balconies, metalwork and high portals. The architecture will be restored with funding from the English International Cooperation Agency and under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. The Former Palace Hotel was represented on the Nuevo Sol coin alluding to the property. The property is referred to as "Old Palace Hotel, 1912" on the coin. Good harbor for local boats. Don't get ripped off - the trips usually cost 5-10 Soles one way per person for a collective boat, like up to Santa Maria. These boats usually fit 15-25 people and can get pretty full, many of them departing at each full hour. Good places to drink and hang out, but we didn't find good food places, just a crazy local market. Also, prepare to walk on shaky planks getting to the platforms.
Tobias D — Google review
The Bella vista Plaza is a bit of a rough place. It is at the entrance to the Amazon and Nanay rivers and you will find freshly cooked crocodile and grilled fish for medium prices, which you can eat on rickety tables with the local porters and "boteros". Children and dogs roam around and you need to be careful not to be shortchanged when you pay! Bring lots of small change and you will have no problems! (Keep your coins in a separate little purse so the locals dont see your bills and cards.) Sensitive stomachs better not drink the home made juices, but if you are accustomed, its nice to drink " aguajina" and "masato". Dont forget to eat toasted wriggly grubs, or at least get your giggle photo! The good thing is Saturday morning second hand markets, go there around 6 am and you will get cheap deals and lots of local colors, music and ruckus. Note; at the moment this Mercado is under reconstruction!

The Malecón Iquitos is a vibrant and enchanting destination that captures the essence of this Amazonian city. As you stroll along its scenic pathways, you'll be greeted by stunning views of the Itaya River, where the lush greenery of the surrounding jungle creates a breathtaking backdrop. (Translated by Google) ✨ A must-see in Iquitos ✨ The boardwalk is one of my favorite places in the city. Ideal for a leisurely stroll, having a coffee by the river, or simply sitting and watching the sunset over the Amazon. You can feel the breeze, the atmosphere is peaceful, and there are local artists, music, and restaurants serving good regional food. During the day, it's perfect for photos, and at night, the atmosphere becomes more lively, yet safe. The view of the Itaya River is beautiful, and if you're lucky, you can see boats and canoes passing by, which gives it a very special touch. 100% recommended for tourists and also for locals who want to get away from the noise of the city for a while. Embarcadero Restaurante Al Frío y al Fuego is a unique dining experience located on a small island in the Rio Itaya in Iquitos. This floating restaurant offers mouth-watering fresh seafood cuisine, with a focus on native river fish and delicious grills. Accessible only by boat from Iquitos, it provides an impressive variety of both local and international dishes.
Wonderful place. A must see. The experience boating to the restaurant is awesome and gives a great view on the river and the coast. The service is very good and they have a great Peruvian local dishes available for just a 10% average increase price which is very deserved for the experience. The food itself was very good and they have a nice wine choices. To be recommenced a must see in Iquitos.

Amazing food, amazing location and view, amazing atmosphere. Easily our favourite restaurant and pool in Iquitos. Carlos was also great. Another bit of fun is reading the reviews of this restaurant and some of the ridiculous reasons they've been given bad ratings in the past. They have some hilariously fussy customers
Richard T — Google review
Great location ... we had a party there at night and it was really fun to be able to swim in between drinks . The food wasn't bad either. Good fish . A bit pricy but your paying for the location and high service standards . I paid $100USD for dinner for two and drinks all night for two people . Worth it.
Ryan M — Google review
Floating restaurant with a pool included. Definitely worth visiting, the food is very good and it's a great atmosphere justifying the higher prices. The boat leaves from here and takes you to the restaurant at no cost.
John K — Google review
The grilled paiche fish was served cold. It was a slow day. But it is clear it was good at different time. No flavor or taste. Service was bad too. The waitress didn't come to check after the served the food and had to look for her to pay and catch the next boat.
Karim — Google review
Overall, a good experience considering the 5 minute boat trip to and from the restaurant. The food itself is alright, maybe not for the price. I got the vegetarian risotto, which was pretty good. My friend got a chicken dish in which part of the chicken appeared pink. The chonta was a unique side that came with our dishes- it’s from a local plant and tastes very fresh and light. The camu camu juice was refreshing. Service was good yet a bit slow. You can come here for the experience of eating on a floating restaurant, and a pool-party like atmosphere (there is a fairly large pool with deck). This is the Amazon, and an outdoor restaurant, so there will be insects. A lot of them. One or two made their way into our food and our hair, but then we moved to another table closer to the center of the restaurant. The location is a bit out of the way; if you are going after dark, take a mototaxi since the surrounding area is not well-lit.
Pooja P — Google review
I had no expectations from this restaurant, as I have come to learn that the restaurants in Iquitos are generally not good, but I figured I should give this place a try. It ended up being surprisingly good. The beef and the rice were good. French fries were too thick and therefore undercooked, but this is still the best meal I have had in iquitos. Camu camu cocktail was also good. A little overpriced in my taste, and they didn't let me use their WiFi.

Incredible space. Serves the Ayahuasca diet. However, some Ayahuasca retreats say no avacado, onion or tomato. Some of their Aya dishes had those foods. I loved my fresh pressed Beet and Carrot juice and Ayahuasca-friendly meal. I will definitely be going back. Serves all diets, vegan, Vegetarian as well. Superb psychedelic artwork adorns the walls that are for sale as well as other holistic, trinkets and gifts. A block away from the Amazon river. O was also giving dogs water from a terrible cup, so my waitress gave me a bowl to use! Bless her!! Also, please don't use straws. A shallow attempt at capitalizing on Ayahuasca tourism. The food is mediocre, the prices are outrageous and the staff fail to embody the principles of spirituality.

Great gauchamole! This place is better than the overhyped Dawn on the Amazon, which i didn't like. The food selection is smaller and more refined. The food is clean without being bland. There is a small ayahusaca diet menu and clear info on what is allowed. I staff are friendly and prices are reasonable. Fresh juices are about S/12—14. Only downside is the cushions on the sofas are a bit stiff. But this is nothing when you have wonderful food!

The Office of La Isla de los Monos is a remarkable sanctuary nestled in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, just 30 kilometers from Iquitos. This unique destination is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating monkeys, providing them with a safe haven before they are released back into their natural habitat. Visitors have the incredible opportunity to interact closely with these playful creatures, who roam freely without cages.
A Monkey Business Adventure: Monkey Island, Iquitos Monkey Island, a haven for primate enthusiasts, proved to be an unforgettable experience. Located a 45-minute boat ride from the bustling Iquitos harbor, this sanctuary offers a unique opportunity to interact with these fascinating creatures in a relatively natural setting. While the journey to the island required a bit of patience, with varying boat schedules and waiting times, the anticipation was well worth it. The moment we stepped onto the island, we were greeted by a symphony of playful squeaks and chatter. It was immediately apparent that this was a place where monkeys reigned supreme. Our guide, a knowledgeable and friendly local, introduced us to the diverse array of monkey species inhabiting the island. From the mischievous capuchins to the serene howler monkeys, each species had its own distinct personality. We were captivated by their agility as they swung through the trees, their expressive faces, and their curious nature. One of the most extraordinary aspects of our visit was the opportunity to interact with these creatures. The monkeys were remarkably tame, allowing us to get up close and personal. We were even permitted to gently pet some of the more sociable individuals, a truly unforgettable experience. Beyond the monkeys, we were also fortunate to encounter several slow-moving, adorable sloths, hanging effortlessly from the trees, a serene contrast to the monkeys' energetic antics. The guided tour provided a solid foundation for understanding the island's inhabitants, but it was the unstructured time afterward that truly allowed us to connect with the monkeys. We spent nearly two hours simply observing and interacting with these playful creatures, a luxury that made the initial wait seem like a distant memory. Unfortunately, due to the late hour of our arrival, we had to cut our visit short, leaving us yearning to return. It's important to note that planning a visit to Monkey Island requires a degree of flexibility. While the island itself is a magical place, the logistics of getting there and back can be somewhat challenging. The boat schedules are irregular, which means you might find yourself waiting for a ride back to Iquitos. For those seeking a more extended encounter with the monkeys, renting a boat from the Nanay Market and negotiating a fare with a local boatman is an option worth considering. Alternatively, joining a group tour can simplify the transportation arrangements. While Monkey Island undoubtedly offers a thrilling and rewarding experience, it's essential to approach the visit with an open mind and a willingness to adapt. The island's charm lies in its raw, natural beauty and the opportunity to connect with its inhabitants on a personal level. For those who appreciate the wonders of the natural world and the joy of animal encounters, Monkey Island is a destination not to be missed.
Adi O — Google review
Lucero was very friendly and extremely helpful when we inquired about visiting the isle, drop her a message on WhatsApp! There is fantastic work being done, definitely worth a visit to support the further rescue and rehabilitation of local wildlife!
Billy B — Google review
We had a nice visit on Monkey Island, the tour guide was professional and explained how to saves and house the monkeys. Some are in the open and some are in cages until they passed quarantine.
Jesse L — Google review
This is the place you must see on your trip to Iquitos. It is a rescue center with amazing stories of each and every monkey being taken away of being sold as "pet monkeys"or hunted by their meat. Here they can grow free and happy, interacting with each other (and us, of course). They also offer the possibility of volunteering (which I did for a week) and it was truly a life-changing experience. For sure, I'll be coming back soon. For the tourists: Come for the selfies, come for the photos, but also try to learn a little about the project, the guides are very well-informed both in English and Spanish and they can give you all the necessary information so you can have the best experience ever! For the volunteers: Before coming, talk to the office about the routine, the activities you will be doing here and food restrictions. Come with a very open heart and have in mind this is not a 5-star hotel (hello, we're in the middle of the jungle). At the end of the day you'll see how rewarding everything can be and you'll be back home with a lot of stories to tell.
Pedro R — Google review
While I appreciate what they are doing to help the monkeys, they are very misleading in their promotional videos. The videos I've seen have people interacting with the monkeys, having people touching the monkeys and monkeys climbing on people. But their website says specifically NO Handling or touching the monkeys. They also give you the same speech when you get there. I understand how it can be stressful to the monkeys but then do not use pics & videos of people touching them and having them climb on tourists if it's not allowed! I was extremely disappointed due to the stark contrast between the truth & the fantasy they were portraying. I am sure this is what draws many people there - the chance to interact with monkeys.Near the end of our tour a monkey started to come towards me so I stopped. I was then immediately told not to stop but to keep moving & not to let the monkey come towards me. I was told that usually when the monkeys climb on people they bite them! Again while I appreciate their conservation efforts i ask that they PLEASE remove the videos of people touching and interacting with the monkeys if this is not allowed. I went just a few months ago in September 2025.

One of the places that you definitely have to visit on your trip to Iquitos is the Isla de los monos (Monkeys Island). It is a rescue center located 30 km from Iquitos, where the only thing you can breathe is vegetation and freedom. Unlike zoos, this refuge is intended to assist and care for primates in a state of vulnerability. Once recovered, they are reinserted into their natural habitat. If you are an animal lover and want to play an active role in the protection of wildlife, Isla de los monos offers the possibility of volunteering, having as the only requirement the desire to help :)

Special thanks to our guide José, who spent two full days with us and shared his deep knowledge of nature, history, and culture. Chinese restaurant
Chifa Long Fung in Iquitos offers a unique blend of traditional Chinese cuisine and local Peruvian flavors, making it a popular dining spot in the city. The restaurant is known for its fusion dishes that combine Chinese and Peruvian influences. Visitors can enjoy well-cooked, flavorful meals such as wonton soup and chaufa (fried rice) with an abundance of fresh vegetables.
I love this place, big dishes, great taste, great service, every dish has menu picture. Thanks..! 🙏🏻

There are many options here, and the restaurant is open late. Sweet & sour chicken, fried rice, chicken & vegetables, won tons & sizzling chicken. Pork, fish & shrimp in a variety of sauces. The service is fast and they are friendly and helpful. They do not have fortune cookies - if they add them, I’ll upgrade this review to 4 stars.

My mom and I had dinner here. Since my mom was craving for some Chinese food, we ordered the wonton soup and chaufa (fried rice), and both of them were pretty good. They were flavorful and not oily at all, and there were a lot of veggies in the soup. I would recommend visitors to come here for a hearty, warm Chinese meal. (Follow me on IG ➡️ miss_dawang)

I came here when visiting Iquitos November 2018. Following lonely planet recommendation. Like many Chinese restaurants in Peru it’s not genuine Chinese food but a fusion of Chinese and Peruvian cuisines. It’s really fresh and delicious. A little bit expensive though-compared to other Chinese eateries.

Its a good place to get fast food. They do a lot of chicken fast. And it's large plates at a reasonable price. 1/4 chicken rice and potato 18 soles. Will feed two people easily
Mitch R — Google review
Well cooked, average speed. Have at least 2 drink options. Good location. Seem to always have tables. Big space. Can be noisy. Air con section but needs fixing. Some cheap plates are huge and expensive plates small. Not the cheapest Chinese place in the area.

Food is ok. But right when we get the food, they shutoff the air conditioning, after 30 min an employee told as to leave because they want to close at 3pm. They should advise us closing time before serve us. Very disappointed. We will never come back.

It's okay food, nothing out of the normal. No Wi-Fi given to guests at all. I think it's a good place if you want to eat a lot, this is a good place as the servings are really big

Bar
El Musmuqui is a vibrant bar that captures the essence of Amazonian culture right in the heart of Iquitos. With its unique cocktails, such as the Pisco Amazonico and Purgante, made from exotic fruits and traditional herbs, it offers a delightful taste of the jungle. The decor immerses visitors in an enchanting atmosphere reminiscent of rainforest life. Open from 7 PM, it's perfect for those looking to unwind after a day exploring Iquitos.
Here they serve shots that are called "Tragos" which are traditional herb infused liquors (not only herbs but also roots, barks and fruits etc...) I would give it a 10/10 for the quality of the "Tragos", it was a perfect blend of liquor and the infused herbs. I had a bowl of cabanossi that was perfect to balance after the strong Liquor. Oh and the music and service was great!

A fascinating place to sample alcoholic drinks made from jungle fruits, herbs and even animals, like suri. One wall is lined with large jars containing the various infusions and creating an atmosphere that blends bar with apothecary with cabinet of curiosities

A nice little bar with two floors. They play a nice selection of classic rock music. It's cheap in here because all of the cocktails they use agua diente as a substitute. Lots of original jungle cocktails in here. Be brave have a shot of agua diente with cats paw

Lodge
Tahuayo Lodge, located in the Tamshiyacu Tahuayo Reserve near the Pacaya Samirias flooded forest, offers a unique Amazon experience. The area is renowned for its diverse primate population, including saki monkeys, titi monkeys, howler monkeys, capuchins, squirrel monkeys, and various tamarins and marmosets. The lodge provides comfortable rustic bungalows along the Tahuayo River with mosquito nets over each bed.
I stayed for 11 days between Tahuayo Lodge and the Research Centre. I can't recommend it highly enough I had such an amazing time. I saw so many animals, birds and insects: some really close. My personal guide, Claudio, was amazing, he could see and hear wildlife that I had no idea were there. We'd be quietly canoeing and he'd point at a branch and say - 'There's a sloth' or name a bird species, and, after a while of staring, I'd eventually see what he could see. Or he'd hear a distant sound, which I could hardly hear, and say 'Monkeys!'. And, from the slight noise, he'd say what species they were and we'd quickly paddle to try and catch a sighting of them, often successfully! His knowledge of the area and ecology was so deep, and his stories were fascinating. He grew up in a nearby village so was in harmony with the forest. To be fair to the other staff they all had a deep knowledge of the forest and many of them were from nearby villages. This really gave an extra special feel to the whole trip. The food was also delicious - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Whether it was a buffet in the dining room, or a packed lunch because I was out for the whole day. All very tasty. The 2 BBQ's in the forest were a treat, especially the traditional one were the only things we took with us was the food and some matches! (I went in the wet season so there was no chance of the fire spreading.) One of the great things about this trip is that I knew that my money was helping local communities to have employment and keep their culture alive: which the staff were kind enough and happy to share with me. Last, but not least, Amazonia Expeditions has created a Foundation to support health and education in the local area e.g. building a hospital and schools. I have been to jungle lodges in the south of Peru. Tahuayo Lodge and the Research Centre are definitely the best I've been to. It's not just that it's deeper into the forest, it's the people who work at Amazonia Expeditions and the companies philosophy.

Unplugged Paradise in the Northern Amazon! We had an incredible experience during our 6-day stay at Tahuayo Lodge and Amazon Research Center. There’s so much to do — from jungle hikes to canoeing through the stunning black-water rivers, which are absolutely perfect for photography. We visited both the southern and northern Amazon during our 2-month trip to Peru, and while both were beautiful, we found the most diversity in the north. One of the biggest highlights was having our own private guide and boat throughout the trip — an absolute dream for photography lovers. Our guide, Lander, was amazing: knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about sharing his expertise, especially when it came to spotting birds and coaxing out shy ones. The fact that Wi-Fi was only available in the main lodge wasn’t an issue at all — if anything, it made disconnecting and enjoying the Amazon even easier. The staff were friendly, attentive, and always making us feel welcome. Special mention to the bartender, who crafted some of the best Pisco Sours we had anywhere in Peru! The food was also better than expected — not fine dining, but hearty, flavorful, and surprisingly varied considering everything was prepared right there in the middle of the jungle. Combined with the warm hospitality and all the activities offered, staying at Tahuayo Lodge was an unforgettable experience we highly recommended!

Amazing tour operator that I highly recommend. I stayed with them at the Tahuayo Lodge and Research Center for 8 days and every day was filled with excitement, great wildlife, delicious food and good sleep in comfortable rooms. My tour guide Wellister knew the forest and its inhabitants in and out and showed me many hidden gems. Thank you for a once in a lifetime experience.

If you live for adventure and always wanted an easy way to see the literal heartbeat of the Earth that is the Amazon, you have to book with Amazonia Expeditions! As an avid wildlife photographer they understood what I was looking for and using their knowledge and experience I was able to see so much wildlife! Let your curiosity guide you and let Amazonia Expeditions take you there. I just want to go back!

This has been by far the best trip in our lives. From the moment we arrived, my wife and I felt incredibly welcomed at both lodges: the Tahuayo Lodge and the Amazon Research Centre. The trip planning process was seamless; communication with Paul and Edward was excellent. Once there, the entire staff at both lodges and all the guides were superb, truly making us feel at home. A special mention must go to our boatman, Wilmer, who has an incredible ability to spot even the smallest animals and recognize tracks – his keen eye was amazing! And finally, to our guide, Herzog, who is a true legend. He's not only an expert in local fauna, knowing the scientific names of hundreds of species, but also incredibly dedicated. From our very first meeting, he made sure we could spot the species we were hoping to observe. He made tireless efforts to ensure we saw some of the most iconic species in the Peruvian rainforest, and also helped us discover many impressive species that were completely unknown to us. We strongly recommend both the Tahuayo Lodge and the Amazon Research Centre. The latter is an absolute "must" for anyone passionate about wildlife! We are so glad we visited both areas and experienced their unique offerings. We will certainly repeat this incredible experience.

Fantastic adventure, an amazing place to explore the Amazon rainforest. The communication from the start was always helpful and responsive, and the company was accommodating in last minute flight changes etc. The boat trip on the Amazon river to the lodge itself was amazing and we were lucky to spot pink river dolphins on the return journey. Everyone at the lodge was super friendly and made you feel welcome straight away, and the food was always delicious and abundant. The lodge itself beat our expectations and we were very grateful in having a private shower after a humid trek through the jungle!. However, what really made the trip was our guide Javier who had so much enthusiasm and knowledge of the jungle and also a great sense of humour. I'd highly recommend!

We stayed in the Amazon for eight days and seven nights with Amazonia Expeditions—and incredible doesn’t even begin to describe it. Our guide, Mishel, was kind, thoughtful, and great energy and wonderful enthusiasm . She was so patient with me as I fumbled my way along the trails and always extended her hand when the path felt uncertain. I was amazed by her leadership, her deep knowledge of the forest, and her gift for spotting animals long before we did. Our boat driver, Wilmer, was equally kind and incredibly skilled at navigating the river and spotting wildlife. Truly, we would have missed so much without their expertise and care. I loved everything about the lodge, the research center, the staff, and the way the entire experience was organized. They’re right when they say it’s not a hotel or a resort—but they take excellent care of you. The rooms are comfortable, the food is delicious (we’re vegetarian and always had plenty of satisfying options), and the atmosphere feels both adventurous and peaceful. Sleeping in the heart of the jungle was surprisingly soothing. I felt completely safe, surrounded by the gentle chorus of nature as I drifted to sleep each night. Most of all, I was deeply moved by the integrity and kindness of this company. They support the local community, protect the land, and care for the wildlife. Knowing that our trip contributed to such a worthy cause made the experience even more meaningful. I highly, highly recommend this company to anyone considering an Amazon adventure. You’ll see incredible animals, connect deeply with nature, and likely find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve even left—we certainly are.

Excellent experience. Visited both lodges earlier this month and was one of the most successful wildlife watching experiences I’ve had - the highest mammal diversity I’ve found in South America. Both lodges are very comfortable and in remote and wild settings. Food was consistently superb with enormous servings. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Personal guides make the experience very bespoke and Aladino was great, really going the extra mile to find everything on my list. Troop of ~60 bald uakari shortly followed by ~100 peccary a definite highlight.

Boulevard - Iquitos offers a serene experience as you stroll along the Itaya River, taking in the vibrant atmosphere of handicraft stands and lively dining spots. The Malecón is a nice boulevard along the Amazon River, in the centre of the world's largest city inaccessible by road - Iquitos. This is the only real tourist area of this bustling city that is the gateway to the Amazon jungle. There is always a strong police presence on this walkway, so it is totally safe for a tourist. It's great for a stroll at sunset or early morning, when it is not too hot. There are many good cafés around here, and some have a terrace offering great views of the mighty river. Ayahuasca seems a big thing in Iquitos, and many of these cafés offer Ayahuasca friendly diet options. The walkway is not strictly alongside the river directly, but the views are good. I'm assuming this is because of conservation reasons with all the wildlife in that flood plain. Overall, a very pleasant place to go for a stroll.

One of the main attractions in Iquitos. Surrounded by restaurants and an incredible view of the river and jungle. It is not crowded, but always visited. Police is close by for security purposes and down the stairs, there is a small market to get variety of regional souvenirs. The playground stopped working, the slide is not working and had to be replaced. Kids should not play in it. There is also foreigners selling bracelets, earrings and other stuff you can buy from to support them. Nice place to visit if you go to Iquitos. It need sto be more taken care of in terms of cleaning and maintenance.

I won't go back, I don't think, although my children liked the pool...

Once you are here, you will find the local miths at the entrance of the Complex on the right hand side so you can read and understand in spanish(get to practice your reading with😉), my daughter and I enjoyed as much as possible. You can also dine in at very affordable prices from the restaurant near by the lagoon. This place is horrible! Sad, dirty, depressing and disgusting... Animal are held in terrible conditions... Wild cats, birds and monkeys on a cement floor in 2x2m cages with no place to hide from people or sun. Garbage, plastic bottles, plastic bags INSIDE habitats. 25cm long fish in 50cm long aquarium... Everything is wrong with this place, stairs and cages are falling apart, nails sticking out from everywhere, smells with rotten and death... There is nobody keeping an eye on what is going on, people are putting fingers inside cages, trying to 'touch the monkey' feeding the jaguar... It's madness! We spent there 20min running and almost crying, had to leave as fast as possible. Hope it will get closed, horrible, horrible place...

I did this alone to save some some money. Take a combi for 8 soles from Iquitos not the numbered busses as they don't seem to go the whole way there. On arrival I was told you can't hike by yourself, it's mandatory to take a guide. So I had to wait about 1.5 hours for him to return with another group. They have Starlink so you'll have access to super fast WiFi. The entrance costs 30 soles, the guide 25. We walked in the forest for about 1.5 hours it was beautiful. Saw some monkeys and Arbillo the guide was a really nice guy. Unfortunately it rained really hard about half way through. But it added to the "rain"forest experience I guess. Gave Arbillo a tip at the end. It was a nice afternoon. Enjoy!

(Translated by Google) You arrive by Nauta car, you get off at Iquitos halfway, entrance 11 and there are 3 options: 1, 2 or 3 hour tours. It is guided. The 3 hour tour cost me 15 Soles. You see only trees but it is worth visiting a national reserve. To return, they say that cars pass by, but I found an empty motorcycle there that took me to CREA and if not, it would be a 3 hour walk.

I was present during the construction of Estadio Max Augustín and even attended one of the initial FIFA youth soccer championship matches held there. Unexpectedly, an earthquake occurred after the game, which is quite unusual in Iquitos due to its distance from seismic activity. This particular earthquake originated in the high Andes and resonated strongly as the river's water level was exceptionally low. Consequently, it shook the entire stadium, prompting us to swiftly evacuate onto the field for safety reasons.
I was there when they were construcing it and I attended one of the first FIFA youth soccer championship game there. After the game an earthquake hit. Earthquakes are rare to be felt since Iquitos is so far away. This hit in the high Andes. The river usually absorbs the sound waves and we never feel them. But this time the water level wad so low it shook the whole stadium. We quickly ran out onto the field in case of collapse of the over head lights and structure. Most people didn't know what was going on and just looked puzzle. We're from California! :)

Aquarium
It's neat to be able to see so many fish (most local to this area). A lot of these species are part of the food fish or ornamental fish industry. Experiences including a feeding pool, a walk-through aquarium, a night room, and a sheltered outdoor education area are all nice features. Educational displays also describe the threats to the health of the Amazon and how people can help. Free guided tours are given in both Spanish and English.

(Translated by Google) Located almost in front of the Quistococha zoo. It is an aquarium that exhibits fish from the Peruvian Amazon. The space is small but sufficient to show the variety of Amazonian fish. It has a small store stocked with snacks, drinks (ice water and soda) and souvenirs (stuffed animals). Excellent explanation of the guide. (Original) Ubicado casi al frente del zoológico Quistococha. Although small, the Quistococha Aquarium offers an educational and enjoyable experience, ideal for a short family visit or as part of a tour of the park. (Translated by Google) A splendid place for learning and raising awareness. It's easily accessible, and you can get there by van or motokar. The staff are highly professional and highly trained, and their explanations of each species are very educational and easy to understand. The aquariums are very well maintained and spacious for the animals' well-being. They have a wide variety of species, all conditioned for the fish's comfort. It's worth noting that this is focused on Amazonian fish. They also have souvenirs you can purchase at the end of the tour, which are reasonably priced.
