Beaches
Lama Monachile, also known as Cala Porto, is a picturesque cove in Polignano a Mare. It features clear waters and a pebble beach surrounded by dramatic cliffs. Visitors can enjoy the stunning view of the bright water colors and explore nearby sea caves such as Grotta Palazzese. The beach is an ideal spot to start a beach adventure with its cozy atmosphere and crystal-clear blue waters.
❄️ A winter sea so quiet, it felt like time had stopped. I visited this beach in winter I thought it would be a small, charming beach — but in person, it felt much deeper, quieter especially with hardly anyone around. The only sound was the gentle rhythm of waves. I stood there for a long while, just watching the sea spray hit the rocks, feeling completely at peace. Such a special place — simple, quiet, and utterly calming.
Yesran — Google review
Beautiful beach, water is absolutely stunning!! However it gets VERY BUSY in summer, and I'm sure the earlier you get there the better to find a spot. Also bring water shoes because it's a rock beach and slippery near the water.
Vânia R — Google review
Lama Monachile is one of those places that just takes your breath away the moment you see it. It feels iconic because it truly is—there’s nowhere else quite like it. Spending the day here is something special: swimming in the clear blue water, looking up at the cliffs, and just soaking in the beauty all around. The beach is very rocky, so bring good beach shoes, and if you can, a little float makes the swimming even more fun and relaxing. There are even a few small cliff jumps for the adventurous, but always with safety in mind. It’s not just a beach—it’s an experience you’ll remember.
Tanya C — Google review
We spent the day at a beautiful beach framed by rugged cliffs and crystal-clear blue water. The sea was perfect for swimming, with cool grottos and caves to explore beneath the cliffs. We even found a quiet spot on the rocks where we could read, relax, and dive in for a refreshing swim. Later, we wandered back to the beach and enjoyed a cold beer and an Aperol spritz as the sun dipped lower over the water — the perfect end to a perfect day.
Jono K — Google review
Excellent experience checking out this beach today. It is truly stunning and beautiful! As many others have said, make sure to bring your water shoes or sandals as the rocks hurt your feet.
David P — Google review
An iconic beach that commands a photo..or two..or three. Very rocky. Not crowded. Even though it was early November I had to have a swim. Water is cool but not cold. Clear. I can see fish around me. And also a surprise. An octopus just metres from the waters edge. Grabbed my phone and managed to capture it briefly. Great experience!
John D — Google review
Beautiful rocky beach with crystal-clear water and a relaxing atmosphere. It’s very rocky, so not the most comfortable for long stays, but perfect for a short visit. About 1–2 hours is enough to enjoy it.
Martin D — Google review
Amazing views of a unique to the eye beach. The truth is that it looks way better looking at it than swimming in it, because of the tourist hordes. A must SEE from all possible corners place.

In the charming coastal town of Polignano, Italy, stands the Monumento a Domenico Modugno, a lively sculpture honoring the 20th-century Italian musician and politician. The town is renowned for being the birthplace of notable figures like Domenico Modugno, also known as Mr. Volare for his famous song "Nel blu dipinto di blu - Volare."
Nice spot for his statue. His song is a real classic. I’ll never forget when I was just a kid watching one of my first horror movies (Vamp with our goddess Grace Jones) and they played Volare at the end credits. It was a nice relief after so much scarring scenes 🤣🤣🤣.
H.S. F — Google review
Monumento a Domenico Modugno is a must-see in Polignano a Mare. The statue overlooks the sea and celebrates the iconic singer of “Volare.” It’s a popular photo spot, especially with the beautiful coastal backdrop. The surrounding area has a lively vibe, and it’s a great place to take a short break while walking through the town. Domenico Modugno, born in Polignano a Mare, co-wrote and performed “Nel blu dipinto di blu” (“Volare”), which became one of Italy’s most internationally famous songs—and even won two Grammy Awards in 1958!
Merih B — Google review
I absolutely love the statue — and the artist who created it! As boats glide into the harbour, “Volare” starts playing and suddenly everyone’s singing and dancing together. The whole place comes alive. The pose is what made him famous when he performed the song for the first time in front of a large audience. He sang with immense passion, bringing a new style and energy that no one had ever seen before. The audience went wild — completely captivated by his performance. His story is truly amazing.
Jono K — Google review
Been there done that! It’s a pity that there’s no details about this symbolism statue, so I asked AI for the explanation. Here’s what it says: “The statue is a monument to Domenico Modugno, a famous Italian singer-songwriter who was born in Polignano a Mare. He is best known for his hit song "Nel blu dipinto di blu," often referred to by its chorus, "Volare." The statue, a three-meter-tall bronze sculpture by Argentine artist Hermann Mejer, was unveiled on May 31, 2009. It depicts Modugno with his arms wide open, an iconic gesture that recalls his performance of "Volare" at the 1958 Sanremo Music Festival. The statue is located on the seafront of Polignano a Mare, looking out over the town and the sea. " Btw. I would definitely recommend you to look for the song to play along for a “dolce” Italian vibes 🥰!

Nice statute in a fabulous location. Hard to get a good photo in the morning, much better in the evening light.

For a moment, I felt like I was flying over Polignano a Mare, just like in the song — light, dreamy, full of Italian magic.

When visiting Polignano a Mare, be sure to take in the charming Palazzo dell'Orologio, also known as Clock Palace. This historic building is located at the heart of the city and features an impressive clock topped by bells and a statue of San Vito. As you explore the streets nearby, keep an eye out for poetry written on the walls by local poet Guido Il Flaneur at Vicolo della Poesia.
Beautiful old town. Loved exploring the winding alleys, admiring each little door way and window sill with its own kitsch adornments. Also a great way to escape from the heat!

(Translated by Google) Heart of the historic center of Polignano a Mare, where the main entrance of the Mother Church is located (closed to the public alas). If I'm not mistaken, the clock is functional thanks to the owners of the house where the gears of the clock itself are located, which is operated manually. Every small street that winds from this little square leads to the balconies overlooking the sea that characterize the town. For some years it has become a very popular place for tourists at any time or season. There are also some nice shops selling souvenirs or typical products.

Calaporto, also known as Lama Monachile beach, is a popular destination in Polignano. This small beach is nestled in a ravine between steep limestone cliffs and the high viaduct Lama Monachile bridge. It's perfect for a quick sunbathing and swimming session while exploring the charming town of Polignano a Mare. Just 3 kilometers north lies San Vito Abbey, where an ancient legend tells of Princess Florenza's ship landing with relics.
One of the best locations on the Mediterranean a quant little town with narrow side streets filled with an array of colorful flowers draped over balconies and restaurants built into the cliff faces with fantastic water front like views it's to die for...

(Translated by Google) We had the “Superior” room. Well, nothing to say other than it is truly gorgeous. Very large, there is so much space, bright, very modern, two TVs, fridge but drinks not included. WONDERFUL balcony. You have a reserved area outside and instead those two sunbeds that you see outside are shared… well maybe it would be better to specify it because otherwise people might be disappointed (from the photos you think they are private but they are not…). Truly gorgeous bathroom, there are even two, each with its own shower, also spacious. The location is simply perfect and you have a beautiful view. The price is slightly high, but it is worth it. The only thing we didn't like so much is the check-in/out, unfortunately there is no “physical” person to talk to. It is all remote. È tutto a distanza.

(Translated by Google) With 100 euros for a double room for single use, in the month of May... I expect to find a service worthy of the name. Check in at 7:50 pm is a problem and I wait 30 minutes outside the building before being able to enter. Wi-fi, with the instructions given in the brochures in the room, does not work, and it is a problem to have help because there is no reception on site. Breakfast... is self-managed in the room, with packaged croissants and juices from a fridge that gives off a nauseating smell. Coffee machine that flashes with a red light and it is not clear why... so... not even coffee... And... other reasons for which... 100 euros were not even a little worth it. Too bad. Peccato.

Restaurant
Grotta Palazzese is a renowned restaurant located in a cave, offering elegant rooms with sea views and a bar. Situated in the historic center of Polignano, visitors can explore nearby attractions such as Piazza San Benedetto and Via Roma, known for its illuminated decorations featuring the lyrics of Domenico Modugno's 'Volare.'
Wow, what an amazing experience! We knew the view would be special from the photos online but they really don’t do it justice. Sitting in an open cave setting with the sea in front was truly picturesque. The ambience gets a perfect 10. They had live music playing which also added to the experience. We were worried after reading some reviews if we would be paying for the beautiful scenic setting and settling for subpar food, but we enjoyed every bite. The food was presented very artistically and it tasted as delicious as it looked. We both enjoyed the Abbraccio tasting (with wine pairing) and we loved every course. And lastly, the team serving us were also very friendly and engaging. Amazing place to celebrate a special occasion. And they have their own free parking lot which they shuttle you to and from the restaurant. This was so convenient . We went early and enjoyed walking through the town before enjoying an amazing dinner. It was ama 10 out of 10 experience for us

This review is only for the restaurant. Didn’t stay at the hotel. This is one of the most epic restaurants in the world for its setting. Incredible view. In a cave in a cliff on the ocean. Spectacular. One of the most instagramable places I’ve ever seen. The food was good too. I had the tasting menu with wine pairing. Service was patchy. The staff were friendly but they are a bit understaffed. The three star review comes from the price. At nearly €500 Euro a person this is one of the most expensive meals I’ve ever had. And it’s not Michelin level food. You are paying for decent food and an incredible view and setting. If the price was half of what it was I’d give it 5 stars. But it’s not. I have hundreds of reviews here. Many of them Michelin 3 star places. This is one of the most overpriced meals I’ve ever had. Was it worth it? I’m glad I went to see the place. But wouldn’t recommend it unless you truly can afford it.
Eddy — Google review
The review is for the restaurant. My partner and I made a considerable financial effort to dine here and it is was an unforgettable experience. The location and the view are amazing, we booked dinner for 8 pm and it was already dark, I would have preferred to go a little earlier because we couldn’t really see the sea in the dark. Being able to go when it’s still light and stay until it gets dark would be perfect. Anyway, the atmosphere was great: live jazz music, delicious food, intimate and unique vibe. However, the service is not worth the price. When we arrived nobody was at the reception, we didn’t know whether we should wait or sit somewhere and the table cloth had a stain which is uncomfortable for the price they charge. I don’t regret going though and I feel lucky I got to see this place.
Anais I — Google review
This review is only for the restaurant. We did not stay in the hotel. I am going to be very honest as we have just visited the same level of restaurant (Michelin guide, fine dining) in another place (Moscow, Russia) and I must admit that the difference is very clear (not only in price). 1. Location. 5/5 The restaurant itself is located in one of the most beautiful caves with astonishing views. The place is at least must see (maybe must visit if the restaurants gets better anytime) because of its cave and very nice location. This is why this place gets 2 stars instead of just 1 star. 2. Food. 2/5 We tried the vegetarian set (me and my wife). I cannot say that these were dishes for 500 EUR for two. You get 1 small tartlet with raw zucchini (nothing special), one green salad (the taste was good), one beetroot salad (it’s just boiled beetroot with some cheese and mushrooms. The beetroot flavor is so strong you don’t taste anything else), pasta (it was nice), some desserts (nothing special, nice simple flavor of vanilla and cream). Overall the food was 2/5, more like a disappointment, because you expect very different level of taste, of experience and emotions. 3. Service 0/5 Come on guys! You need to fire your senior administrator who arranged this circus service. We did not get our menu for 7-9 minutes after we sat to the table, we did not even know who our waiter was for all that time. After that when I asked about the ingredients in the dish (sea sand) the waiter could not answer the question for 3 times! He would always go away, ask for help or answer different question before his colleague came up to me and finally explained the meaning! Not knowing what you serve for 500 EUR is incredibly not professional. Table service was just stupid. We get our bread but we don’t get any plates for the bread. So when we want to try it we have to eat it without plates so all breadcrumbs go everywhere on the table and the waiter did not bother to clean them up. Finally the waiter did not bother to ask how was the dishes and overall stay. Nothing about this restaurant speaks Michelin. Overall rating is 2/5, do not advise visiting only for the view Unless these guys step up food and service.

We didn't stay in the hotel so this review is just for the restaurant. We had some reservations about this place because of some of the reviews. However, my wife and I decided we would give it a try anyway. Where else in the world can you have dinner in a sea cave! It probably goes without saying that the atmosphere was absolutely magical. Some of the reviews we read made it sound as though the food wasn't great but I have to say we both felt their Abraccio menu was top notch. Live music was a nice added touch. Service was okay, but not the best we've had. At a different price point them forgetting to bring a beverage for my wife would have been forgivable but not for what they're charging. They did get to it with a couple of asks though. Even so, it was a minor hiccup in what was otherwise a magical evening. We have no regrets.

We made reservations months in advance. We had the first seating at 6:00pm. We were seated at our table and very coldly greeted with a tablet for beverage choice and a menu. We knew going in this would be a very expensive evening but anticipated excellent food combined with exceptional service. For weeks they sent reminder emails about our reservation. We waited for 10 minutes before they took out drink order which was a glass of wine and a beer. About five minutes later they came back to the table and told us they were out of beer, literally right after they opened and they did not bring the glass of wine. It was busy and most tables were seated, eating, drinking but the staff completely ignored us. No water, no rolls and drinks. When they did come to take our order I had some question and they did answer but then walked away without taking our order and this was after we have been sitting for 20 minutes. About 10 minutes later someone came and picked up the bread plates like they were clearing our table and we still didn’t have drinks, no bread and still no order. After 20 minutes of sitting, we got up and walked out. The ambiance is beautiful but it’s quite loud given the surrounds with the ocean crashing against the cave. The minimum $250 EU person is certainly no worth it and I highly recommend keep your distance if you’re considering a visit.

Bucket list ticked, but as others have said food is not what it should be. The Hotel, however, is another level...... We had 4 days to travel there from the UK (from Snowdonia in Wales). Decided to make a road trip of it so packed the car up and set off on Monday evening. We arrived outside Grotto Palazzese at approx. 16:00 on Friday afternoon. After threading a wide car through the narrow medivel Italian streets, witht he though of genuinely getting wedged (I'd resigned myself to the fact that the alloys would probably be trashed on this trip but miracilously they remained untouched throughout), we somehow popped out right by the entrance to the hotel. Expecting something like Gleneagles or the Ritz, it's just a house entrance that acts like the Tardis inside. Once it was established that we were guests staying the night and not some stupid Brit who had stuffed their car outside the hotel, blocking the hotel private car service in, the valet took over and went to park the car. We were ushered to the desk to sort out checking in, and upon going back outside the car was still there, complete with the wonderful smell of a fried clutch and about 50 tourists all taking pictures of it. The window dropped on the car and the valet asked "how do you make it go backwards - I can't get it to go backwards?" I don't suppose many right hand drive manual wide GT cars turn up, so don't blame him for struggling with the car - after I showed him that he just needed to push harder to find reverse, he continued to stall it a furhter 14 times as the fly-off handbrake was ready to then tip him over the edge.... We were shown to our suite, and luggage was already in there (they literally do everything for you). The suite was amazing - the view simply stunning, everything controlled by the I-Pad and for me it was perfect and better than imagined. We had a seperate gated entrance off the street, and small table to sit outside on and enjoy the complimentary fruits on offer. We started on the street with some drinks as had some time to kill and went down to the restaurant in time for our sitting. It was obviously busy, but the waiting staff were polite enough and courteous. 3 choices - Fish, meat or vegetarion 7 course tasting menu. Reasonable wine menu and the option to wine pair. We both chose the seafood option with wine pairing. Upon reflection we should have chosen a seafood and a meat option and then compared but hey ho. Learn for next time. The food started to come out and each course was tasty, nothing outstanding, but nice. One of the courses that was placed infront of us was spaghetti in a yellow tomato sauce. Excuse me? If I'm paying a thousand euros for a meal I don't expect a course to be spaghetti, even if it is a Michelin chef that has preparred it? That was a surprise and disappointment. There were some nice dishes, but the wine pairing was also a disapointment - instead of paying 180 euros each (or whatever it was) for the wine pairing, upon hindsight we should have put the money towards purchasing one nice bottle to enjoy with the meal, but again - lesson learned. The main fish course tasted like tinned sardines - I enjoyed it but Rita sent hers back. They did offer an alternative but we declined. We didn't feel hurried, and the pudding was excellent. So to re-cap, the hotel was amazing and I will certainly return there, just not eat in the restaurant below as the reviews are correct, it's not worth the money. However, I do recommend going as the setting is just fabulolus, it is a bucket list item for most people, the staff were polite and friendly enough, engaging in conversation and were knowledgeable about the food and wine (the wine just wasn't to our taste and I think it could have been paired better), we were glad we went, it is a memorable and a special place, the food was nice - just not what it could have been. It has the potential to be out of this world though.

I was there 2 year ago with my friend. So it was reason why we decided come back again because we were so so happy and satisfied. So we were on the restaurant a on 3.11. 3025. The restaurant was beautiful and impressive. The view of the sea was wauuuu and amazing. First we wanted change table even though the restaurant was half empty. But it was not possible. Next the tablecloth was not ironed. Cloth napkins too. Next soup was tasteless and almost cold. Next on the table wasn't salt and pepper. Next the waiter give us a minimum amount of sauce on the spagetti. It was a bit cold the blanked was available but no one offered it tu as. On the toalet was not hand creme and toothnrushes. All of this is a given at the five-stars hotel and restaurant but not in the Grotta Palazzese. We are not satisfied....we are disappointed...we spent a lot of money for not good servicies and quality meal. This is definitely not the place to go. Dissatified guest.

Bar Turismo, located at Via Pompeo Sarnelli 7, just a short walk from the main square in Polignano, is a beloved spot among locals despite its non-touristy location. The place has a rustic charm that sets it apart from other establishments. It's known for its high-quality freshly made ice cream and exceptional coffee options. Visitors can also enjoy light breakfast options suitable for all tastes.
Best gelato I’ve ever had. Sometimes it doesn't follow the times indicated on Google, go there in the morning or early afternoon it is worth it!

This was the best gelato I’ve ever had. Vito the owner was very hospitable and had us try some flavours. He is the third generation of this place. The nocciola was my favourite.

Don’t be fooled by the name or the storefront! This may be THE best gelato 🍨 I have ever had and I have lived in Italy 🇮🇹 for 8 years! The owner also has a great personality 😎
Jason J — Google review
I read a bunch of positive reviews about this gelato and owner, so I had to try it. The gelato was good, but the owner was a miserable guy who definitely ripped me off for being a tourist. I should have asked for the price before ordering, like I usually do, but I did not and he charged me 4 euros for a tiny cup of gelato. It was ridiculous. Every other fancy gelato shop charges around 3 euros, but somehow this hole in the wall charges 4. Avoid!
Eric — Google review
Don’t go there! Worst gelato experience in Polignano a Mare. The taste was very average, the cone was small, and it cost €4 more expensive than other gelaterias nearby. You can easily find better and cheaper gelato elsewhere.
Amer A — Google review
This old and historic bar is unlike any other. It's vintage, outside the contemporary canons of always appearing modern and shiny. It's real, no need to show. But when you're in there, it feels like stepping back in time. Very few flavors of ice cream. All incredibly genuine and free of magical ingredients. No supermodel girls greeting you. But only the owner, with whom you can continue to learn that culture that has now fallen into the sand of time.
Pasquale G — Google review
Rude service, overpriced and not good gelato at all. €4 for a small gelato. Much better options in the area.

Customers can also enjoy simple plates of the daily catch for lunch. The opening hours vary depending on the season, so it's recommended to check their Facebook page for updated times. Visitors highly recommend trying the oysters and shrimp due to their quality and reasonable prices.
Fresh seafood and reasonable prices! We visited twice in a row for two nights stay for the breakfast! They wisely stocked chilled proceco in refrigerator, so we couldn't stop drinking at 9 o’clock. I used to jogging earlier morning so I could see they really “sbattare il polpo” such a amazing experience! FYI, Ricci are not available in May.

One of the best meals we had! The place may look simple, plastic chairs and tables, but the seafood was so fresh and the owner was so friendly! All the different types of seafood are displayed at the counter with price on it, pick and choose the ones you like and the owner will make it a seafood platter on ice for you.

Excellent little spot to get fresh and raw seafood. They have a solid selection of ready to eat packages which you can take to go or eat there. There are a handful of outdoor seats. Lido Cala Paura is a charming beach located in Polignano a Mare, nestled between towering limestone cliffs. The beach, known for its pebbly terrain and clear turquoise waters, offers a unique and picturesque setting for visitors to enjoy swimming and snorkeling. The area also features the famous Grotta Palazzese cave, which has been used as a party venue since the 18th century and now houses a renowned restaurant.
Wonderful and non-touristy beach! Even though it is absolutely packed, it’s a great vibe. Got two each sun-beds and an umbrella for €24. We brought food and drinks from the supermarket, no issue. Parked in the city centre, which is a little 15 min walk. There was however multiple spots at the parking right by the beach at 11 am. The water is beautiful, but quite rocky and shallow. Possibility to lay on and jump from the cliffs. Definitely recommend 🇮🇹💕

The best beach in the area of Pulignano. We didn't know what to expect and what a nice surprise! 15th August 2025 and we got a spot on the private beach area for 24 euros (2 sunbeds / umbrella). We arrived at 8.30am and enjoyed the beach all day. They staff is super nice and friendly. Highly recommend this gem!

This place has a real “locals only” vibe which is great if you want to get away from the over-exposed parts of the city. There was a guy selling beers out of an ice-filled bucket for €2 .. and even though the sea was a little rough, the water was fine to swim in .. and quite fun!

We arrived at 8:30 a.m. on August 15th to find people already setting up for the day. We paid €24 for two sunbeds and one umbrella. It's a kids- and pet-friendly beach. The staff is nice and relaxed. Water shoes are highly recommended. It's very close to the heart of Polignano, which we visited at the end of the day after leaving the car there.
Dam B — Google review
I enjoyed this place because you can swim easily because the area is protected from the big waves due to the high cliffs. Also, the guys who rented the sun beds played good music. Good price, I would say for sun beds: 8€ for person, at the beginning through of September.
Nicoleta M — Google review
I was disappointed to see that there are no sandy or well-maintained beaches in the area. This was one of the few recent spots where you can rent a sunbed and enjoy a cold beer. Definitely bring water shoes—there are so many stones that it’s almost impossible to walk barefoot

Pizza restaurant
Il Quadrifoglio in Polignano a Mare is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Apulian cuisine. Renowned for its exceptional Margherita pizza, this restaurant prides itself on using fresh, high-quality ingredients that are skillfully prepared. Diners rave about the delightful flavors and the warm atmosphere, making it feel like home even for solo travelers.
We had an excellent meal at Il Quadrifoglio in Polignano a Mare, despite seemingly the whole town having the same idea and overwhelming the team! The pizza is frankly unbeatable - if you have any misgivings about the fact they're a mini chain with a few different sites along the coast, put them aside because this is unbelievably good food. The bruschetta we had as a starter may be the best thing we ate in Puglia, and it has some stiff competition. The service did let the experience down - with queues down the street, it was clear the team were struggling to stay on top of things. We were constantly battling to get waiters' attention as they sprinted around the restaurant, and mistakes crept in... the table next to us had a tiramisu offered on the house because the wrong pasta dish was served to them. Service aside, very much worth it for the incredible meal.
Ross F — Google review
Yesterday my Cousin in i had an absolutely amazing experience at Il Quadrifoglio in Polignano a Mare! The bruschetta was out of this world – honestly the best I’ve ever had. The pasta dishes were equally delicious. On top of that, the staff was very friendly, cheerful, and charming, which made the evening even more enjoyable. We will definitely come back! Thanks a lot!

Best pizza in Polignano a Mare! The pizza was absolutely delicious and so well priced! 6 euros for an absolutely delicious Margherita pizza. My husband had the My Puglia pizza, based on the waiter’s recommendation and he absolutely loved it! I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any of the pizzas. The service was fantastic and it had a great atmosphere, situated on Via Roma. We will definitely be back!

One of the best restaurants that I’ve ate in Italy (and I’ve been in Italy 12 times…). From the food to the staff everything was amazing! Don’t forget to order the meatballs in pistachio sauce and the tiramisu. You won’t regret it

Tried the most reccomended puglia pizza which was good, napoli style, side crust a bit too thick and undercooked. Toppings nice, lamb meatballs in pistachio saucewas nice Tiramisu was very very bad Thick tastless mascaporne cheese and biscuits soaked in just cofeee No sweetness no taste at all Avoid the tiramisu Worst tiramisu in our trip so far across italy
Suhel N — Google review
I am honestly thinking about their Spaghetti Assasina every day since we've left Poligano. It was by far the best thing I have ever eaten in my life. And yes it is authentic to the Puglia region and vegan by default. The tomato sauce is reduced on the pan so much it becomes extremely intense with crispy caramelised bits of the pasta being the absolute best. What a symphony of flavour! Bruschetta pugliese is also delicious with local variety of rocket on top that taste nothing like I've ever tried before but was incredibly good. I've also tried the orchiette cime di rapa which is vegan if you ask to remove anchovies but we always came back to Assasina and ended up eating here every day. Word of warning - this place is extremely busy so 1. You will most likely have to queue for the table for a considerable amount of time 2. It is extremely busy so there will also be a wait for the food to arrive at your table. Worth waiting at all counts. I'm already thinking about my trip back and having their pastas again!
Patrycja J — Google review
Il Quadrifoglio delivers true Italian quality — their pizzas are absolutely authentic, with fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors that take you straight to Italy. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, though — the queue can take up to half an hour, but it’s absolutely worth it. I had the Viola 10th Year Anniversary beer, and it was exceptional — rich, smooth, and beautifully presented. It’s not as widely available as Peroni, which makes it feel more exclusive. While Peroni is light and accessible, Viola stands out with a deeper, more refined profile. Its caramelized notes give it a warm, slightly sweet finish that lingers on the palate much longer. It’s a more premium, local choice — if you come across it, don’t miss the chance to try it.

Sights & Landmarks
In the charming town of Polignano a Mare, there is a notable landmark that often gets mistaken for a Roman bridge. The Ponte Borbonico su Lama Monachile, also known as the Bourbon bridge over Lama Monachile, stands out as one of the most spectacular places to visit in the area. This modern bridge offers breathtaking panoramic views, especially at sunset when the horizon is painted in shades of pink.
Worth the hype, this is a beautiful place to see! We went in November and it was fairly empty--I can imagine how packed it is in summer! At the bridge there are many restaurants and bars and in the historic center are shops and many air bnbs. In that area is very clean and decorated very cute! No wonder people love to stay here. There are several panorama spots to get a great picture. We were not there to swim so we only spent the morning there which was enough. Make sure to take the path to the beach to see the bridge from below. Parking is limited but we did find a pay-for-parking spot on the street. Because it is touristy there are a lot of hawkers on the street trying to get you to buy crap.
Nikki ( — Google review
Iconic bridge offering a unique view of Lama Monachile and the Adriatic Sea that almost seems to demand that anyone walking across it take a photograph. As a local, I see more selfies taken there than anywhere else. TIP OF THE DAY: If you want to avoid your telephone casting a shadow on you in the afternoon, just ask one of us to take a nice photograph of you or your group together. Fantastic views all around. Super crowded even on weekdays though. We were there just as they were setting up the stage for RedBull Cliff Dive 2024. I imagine to be quite the spectacle to visit during the event. The “beach” is not worth it in my opinion. It is barely a beach at all.

This town is perched on cliffs overlooking the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea 🌊 Not only is Polignano a Mare one of southern Italy’s prettiest towns, it also has an interesting backstory. It’s believed to be the site of the Ancient Greek city of Neapolis of Apulia, the “New City” 🏛 Although there’s no written evidence of this to date, historians deduced the city’s location following clues on ancient coins depicting Neapolis.

Lungomare di Polignano a Mare is a picturesque coastal path in the charming town of Polignano a Mare, Italy. It offers stunning views of the ocean and ample space for leisurely strolls. Visitors can start their walk at Via Garofalo and enjoy the scenic route along the coastline, passing by sports fields before reaching the end. The town also boasts free parking near the sea, making it convenient for travelers.
What a charming place to stay for a long weekend. Polignano a Mare looks like it is straight out of a movie set. This part of Italy (the heel) does not suffer over-tourism so I found it peaceful. The small town is very eye catching, as it's perched precariously on steep sea cliffs. The houses have flower laden balconies and are separated by tight alleyways. You really feel like you are stepping back in time by decades. Your standard run of the mill restaurant here, would be a top class Italian restaurant at home, and the prices are great. There is a statue here dedicated to their favourite son - the famous Italian singer, composer, and actor Domenico Modugno. There is not much English spoken here, so you are better off making the effort to learn some Italian words. If you are in the Bari area, I would advise visiting for a day trip at least, it's that special here.

(Translated by Google) One of Puglia's most famous landmarks. A unique location offering unforgettable views of the cliffs and the beach beneath the bridge, where everyone poses for photos, but also the charm of flower-filled alleys in the labyrinthine streets of the old town. If you're lucky and brave, you can dance to the accompaniment of a piano. It's crowded. Everyone wants something to eat and drink there. There's enough for everyone. We recommend the gelato and espresso at Bar Gelateria, right in front of the bridge. We enjoyed them in 2018 and 2025. It's good to know that some things are permanent. Try them. (Original) Jedna z najbardziej znanych wizytówek Apulii. Jak macie szczęście i odwagę, możecie zatańczyć przy akompaniamencie fortepianu. Tłoczno. Każdy chce tam coś zjejść i wypić. Starczy dla wszystkich. Seafood restaurant
Fast food restaurant
Pescaria in Polignano a Mare is a renowned seafood spot managed by Bartolo L'Abbate, the founder of Pescheria Lo Scoglio. This historic fish market offers raw or cooked fish for takeaway or on-site dining. The restaurant provides an informal setting to savor pasta dishes and fresh, sustainable seafood. Visitors can enjoy fish pasta, raw seafood, fish salads, and fried fish at this establishment located at 93 Via Mazzini.
The food was amazing. It was fresh and well seasoned. The service was fast and great. The mixed fried seafood was kind of salty but everyone of my friends and family enjoyed it with the beer, coke, and water. In my opinion the octopus burger was the highlight of the food i ordered. Overall I would recommend this place for people who like seafood, tourists and most of my friends.

What a delightful taste! We ordered 2 octopus sandwiches and fried calamari 🐙 🦑 Both were delicious, and we did not have to wait in line. The waiters did not speak English very well, but they understood our order from the photos I showed. The bread was hot and crispy, and the seafood was also very tasty. If you visit to Polignano a Mare you should eat something in this restaurant.

Found this nice eatery that sells fish and chips. We ordered the salmon burger, fish and chips and the fried squid. The fish is fresh and nicely cooked with a good crisp. We enjoyed the way the fries were cooked. The squids are also very tasty and fragrant. The burger comes with some raw salmon, chopped tomatoes, some greens and sauce, pretty big burger. Nice and cosy place to have your meal, no fuss. Recommended

A visit to Pescaria in Polignano a Mare is a truly unique experience, but one that is absolutely worth it. The food is fantastic, and the prices are surprisingly great for the quality of seafood you get. However, you should be prepared for the process. It's a very busy place, and first, you have to stand in a line to pay for your meal. Only after you've paid do you get to sit down and wait for your order. It's a system, and while it's efficient, it can feel a bit chaotic. And while the food is amazing, some of the staff can be a bit rude, which is a shame, but it might just be a part of the fast-paced, high-volume environment. The food, though, is the real star. The salmon and tuna panini are absolutely delicious—the fish is so fresh and flavorful. The fish and chips are also fantastic, a perfect Apulian take on a classic. For the great price you pay, it’s an incredible value. In the end, it's a worthwhile trade-off. You might have to deal with a strange ordering process and some less-than-friendly staff, but the food is excellent and the prices are more than fair. It's a place you go to for the delicious seafood, and that's exactly what you get.
Shanit R — Google review
Fantastic place for fish & oysters lovers who want to have crackers or panini gluten-free too. The place is spacious inside and outside and provides all sorts of fresh fish for a reasonable deal. Except Prosecco and wine is not served per glas, per bottle only. For me as single traveler a bit challenging and I would love to have some sparkling wine to the lemon squeeze of the oysters. Service is also highly kind and attentive. I definitely recommend this place!
Anna L — Google review
This delicious and convenient fresh fish shop was recommended to me by a colleague and I am so lucky I was able to go! We enjoyed a raw octopus salad and a box of soft battered and fried white fish and polenta. Everything was absolutely delicious. It’s a busy location, so I recommend arriving before or after peak lunch hour. However we were able to share our table with a group of travelers and had a great conversation about the beautiful city and food. We shared food, stories, and vibes. Great place all around!
Ruby — Google review
Pescaria The octopus sandwich is definitely the highlight—fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. Other seafood dishes are decent but don’t quite stand out in the same way. The overall atmosphere is casual and lively, making it a nice spot to enjoy a relaxed meal. No reservation is required, but be prepared for a bit of a wait—usually around 20 minutes just to place your order. Once you order, you’re given a number and it typically takes another 30 minutes for your food to be ready. When it’s time, a staff member calls out your number in Italian, which adds a bit of local charm and is a fun opportunity to test your listening skills if you’re learning the language. A good place for a laid-back seafood experience if you’re not in a rush.

Stunning and super romantic little town. You can easily get off your mobile phone GPS/ Google maps and get lost in its cozy, tiny and utterly romantic streets!! And Christmas time is even more unique and beautiful!

Pretty but... I can't help feel that Polignano is a victim of its own "beauty". Certainly worth a visit, but I felt I kept on waiting for it to deliver, and it never did. It does have an impressive setting, built above and into the shallow cliffs, and it had the typical bars and restaurants to enjoy, with a "new" viaduct where an old Roman one used to be, above THE beach - pebble and crowded, so for viewing from a distance rather than enjoying as a beach. You also run out of things to experience pretty quickly, so give it an hour for a coffee, beer or glass of wine, and move on! Free parking up by the station.

A special place to visit! The tall narrow houses clinging to the cliffs with the crashing waves below. Let your eyes soak up the beautiful clear Adriatic sea. Walk the narrow passages in centro storico. Experience the poetry of the little village. Dive back to Roma times.
Keith O — Google review
If you are in the Bari area, I would advise coming here for a day trip at least, it's that special here.
Alan E — Google review
A very nice small city with narrow streets and fresh sea air. If you dare, you can try swimming down at the rocks because this area is always full of visitors and tourists. While walking at the streets don't miss the beautiful sea view!
Caner M — Google review
I had the pleasure of visiting the historic center of Polignano a Mare at night, and it was truly breathtaking. The area was bustling with tourists, yet it maintained a charming, intimate atmosphere. The streets were lined with numerous eateries, offering delicious gelato and pizza, perfect for a late-night snack. The art on the walls and light installations added a magical touch, making every corner a visual delight. The small churches scattered throughout the area were adorned with stunning religious art, a testament to the town’s rich cultural heritage. Walking through the narrow alleys, I discovered hidden gems like the Vicolo della Poesia, where poetry adorns the walls, and the picturesque Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. Polignano a Mare’s historic center is a must-visit, especially at night when it transforms into a vibrant yet serene haven. Whether you’re interested in history, art, or simply enjoying local cuisine, this place has something for everyone. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore its beauty and charm!

Really nice place, small and ran purely by a believe a couple. Menu is small so food is good quality and comes out quickly. Lady is really nice and chef is also great and he comes out at the end of what we saw most people's sitting and thanks them for coming in.

My wife and I ate here on 29 May. We had an unforgettable experience, and I would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Polignano. We also ate at an overpriced restaurant in a cave, and I would recommend this place over that one in a heartbeat. The chef greeted us afterwards too, which I thought was a nice touch at the end of a very delicious meal. Portions were big, but quality was not sacrificed. Would recommend to book in advance, as the place was fully booked while we were there on a weekday. The owners, which were a couple (I believe) turned away many people while we were enjoying our meal.

An Exceptional Dining Experience – Highly Recommended! We visited this restaurant based on a friend’s recommendation and were absolutely delighted! Although the space is small, it’s beautifully decorated with great attention to detail, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff was incredibly kind and professional. From the moment we arrived until the end of our meal, everything was handled with care and a smile. Special thanks to Liu and Fabrizio, who made our evening even more enjoyable with their friendliness and attention. The food was outstanding – not only was it delicious, but the presentation was also exquisite. Each dish was a small work of art, with perfectly balanced flavors that truly impressed us. We will definitely be coming back and wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates great food and a welcoming atmosphere!

Would highly highly recommend this place for a romantic dinner.

We expected a lot and got even more! Already the reception is warm and welcoming, giving you the feeling of being personally welcomed. The menu is short but varied, but it's still hard to choose from the delicious dishes on offer. I could write for a long time, every bite is still memorable. For example, the salad of courgette noodles, a dream of simplicity that makes the palate dance. Soft, fresh vegetables, herbs and lettuce alternate with crunchy vegetable crisps and seeds. Lots of flavour without competing with each other ... great balance and yet an experience with every bite. The fave is also different. Authentic and yet more! I don't know how the chef does it. There is also a great selection of wines, some organic. We don't miss the dessert of the day either. This host couple is awesome! The personal farewell from both of them emphasises that this is the best this village and beyond has to offer. Thank you for a lovely, delicious evening. We would love to come back when we are in the area again!

We vacationed in Puglia for 6 days and this was our best meal. We ordered the octopus (polpo) and the salmon carpaccio. They were both presented in the most unique and creative ways. The chef greeted everyone and our server was so nice. MINT gets our highest recommendation.

My basic expectations for restaurant that charges 50 plus Euros a person is 1) a maitre 'd that's polite and accepts that he got the order wrong rather than trying to blame you or the kitchen. 2) They actually pour the expensive bottle of wine that you ordered and 3) that the equipment in the bathroom works. Sorry the food was also so so but then you kind of know that going in that they're just charging you for the views and not the food.

Lovely location and staff! We really enjoyed the appetizers (prawns and oysters) and I loved my pasta (cheese and pepper). Interestingly they had oysters from Portugal, Ireland and France! I got two of each to try the difference - they were all nice but I do love French oysters most! My husband's pasta was a little bland (a tomato one with capers).

Great food and awesome view! Price of wine is incredibly good for the selection of local ones. One thing I’d recommend is to improve the service, some of the staff are not very happy at work, which made the experience a bit less pleasant. But the food and the view compensated that.

we came to polignano a mare to eat, apparently. first stop of our “polignano food tour” was this coffee shop. my friends told me i absolutely had to try their “special coffee.” i asked multiple times what it was, but they just said, “you’ll see.” so i ordered it. we got three, one each, and somehow managed to grab a booth in the middle of the very busy café. clearly this “special coffee” is their thing. i finally tried it and i have to say, i was surprised. if i remember correctly, it’s made with coffee, whipped cream, amaretto, and lemon juice. sounds weird, right? but the combo actually works. creamy, bitter, sweet, and acidic all at once. hard to describe, but definitely worth trying if you’re ever in the area.

La Focacceria Delle Noci Marco is a popular spot in Polignano A Mare known for its delicious focaccia bread with various toppings. The menu includes at least four vegan options, as well as classic choices like tomato, potato, zucchini, and eggplant. Customers often have to wait in line to place their order and the process of getting the focaccia can be time-consuming due to the high demand.
Really delicious focaccia! The dough is so tasty, soft but crunchy on top and they have an amazing selection of toppings. Just note that they have a system where you need to take a ticket and wait for them to call out the ticket number. Not everyone realises this and it caused quite a fight. Also note that they leave the pips in the olives. It is a very popular place so be prepared to wait a few minutes. The slices are huge and it is extremely inexpensive. I would definitely recommend grabbing some focaccia here.

It’s hard to choose the best gelato in Italy — there are so many wonderful ones! But some truly stand out and leave a mark on your travel experience. That’s exactly how I would describe the gelato at Bella Blu. An unforgettable explosion of flavors and delights, served in a charming atmosphere with warm, friendly service that reflects the true spirit of Italian hospitality. A must-visit in Polignano a Mare!

Artificial flavourings, expensive icecream, they are changing the price in a strange way, some days cheaper than other. The icecreamn is impossible to digest. Really impossible. I have ordered pistachio, nocciolla and chocolate. Never again am I gonna set foot in that joint. Probably they are doing so when large events are hosted in Polignano and grab a lot of money from tourists. Again, not good, they are lowering the quality.

The hotel boasts a mind-blowing location with one of the best vistas in town, making it a hidden gem of the Puglian coast.
Cute little hotel with lovely staff. Incredible breakfast with alot of fruits served to the table. Nice italian croissants with toppings. The room right next to the reception was a jewel. It felt like in a hidden cave which is very nicely renovated. We loved it.

Although the view is great, the food was poor. We waited over an hour for our food. Once it came the food was cold and not very tasty. The drinks were nice, the two servers we had for the evening were lovely and when we told them about the food the server organised a 15% discount. The people on the door were rude, was on the phone when taking payment and didn't engage with us at all.

We went for dinner on our last day in Polignano. The beef tartar did not taste so good. Gazpacho and ravioli were super and the view is stunning. However, wouldn’t go back for food - better for drinks 🍹
Kateřina K — Google review
We only used the rooftop terrace and were pleasantly surprised at how good the pinsa and drinks were for what looked like a tourist trap. Sure, it was late October but the weather was nice and we thought the place should have been full but we were the only ones there. Of course the view is quite nice too.

Aquamarea delivers an experience that effortlessly blends refined elegance with authentic local charm. Perfectly situated in the heart of Polignano, the property offers a seamless gateway to the town’s acclaimed restaurants, artisan boutiques, and sweeping coastal panoramas. The accommodations are a masterclass in understated luxury—thoughtfully designed, impeccably maintained, and imbued with a sense of tranquility that invites true relaxation. Cristiana, with her flawless professionalism, gracious attentiveness, and genuine warmth, elevated our stay to a level of hospitality rarely encountered. Aquamarea is not merely a place to stay; it is a destination in itself, worthy of the most discerning traveler.
Tina L — Google review
concerning the rooftop bar/ restaurant the view is simply amazing and probably one of the best if not the best in polignano however there were two major issues the music was exceptionally loud, even though i know it’s the concept of the place, blasting electro music this loud was counter productive . especially with the second DJ. we couldn’t help but feel sorry for the old lady in her balcony literally 2 mt away from the rooftop, and it was just too loud to enjoy the sunset. if you’re looking for a chill romantic place, it won’t be the best idea. second, we ordered a plate of raviolli for 15 euros and were shocked to find only three poor pieces of ravioli in the plate. we thought it was at first a very bad joke, but it wasn’t. it was very underwhelming. so if you go there i would recommend to only order drinks to enjoy the sunset and then eat somewhere else for dinner. the first Cool looking old DJ guy and the amazing view saved the night for us

Every detail reflected care and attention. Patricia at breakfast made our mornings even better with her warm hospitality and the best coffee in Polignano!☕️ The rooftop bar is spectacular, with breathtaking views of Lama Monachile and outstanding cocktails prepared by the amazing team.🍸🍹🍸 Everyone treated us so well that we felt completely at home. The Museum of Contemporary Art Pino Pascali is a unique foundation dedicated to contemporary art in Puglia. Housed in the former municipal slaughterhouse, it features an outstanding permanent collection of works by the artist from Polignano, who passed away at a young age. The museum showcases a diverse range of pieces including photos, drawings, and other artworks by prominent Apulian artists as well as recipients of the prestigious Pino Pascali prize.
Loved the building and exhibition. Real nice to see the Pino Pascali collection downstairs too. The large windows and view at the backside of the building to the ocean is a painting in itself.

As an architect, I loved the building. I enjoyed the exhibition. The museum has a lot of potential. I would love to have a coffee or a drink on the terrace facing the sea. Maybe it is something that the director has to think about it. With live music will be paradise.

We had our civil wedding ceremony here on a warm September afternoon in 2020. The white gallery room is just the perfect 'blank canvas' for whatever you want your wedding day to be. For us, with the doors opened wide onto surrounding views of the Adriatic, the sea air soothed and calmed us while we said our vows. The museum staff were so kind and helpful and everything ran so smoothly. It was beautiful.

A very interesting museum devoted to a local visual artist Pino Pascali, who was an early conceptual artist born in Polignano a Mare. Except for a few works by Pascali himself, there is a collection of works by contemporary artists who were awarded the prize called after his name -- the Pino Pascali Prize. The winner of the 21 edition of the prize was Fabio Sargentini, an art collector located in Rome. The museum, although small, is very nice, and its exhibitions very professional. A great pleasure to see!

Gola Snack Da Vito Ciambone is a popular street food-style eatery in Polignano a Mare, offering a menu of delectable Italian dishes. Despite its casual atmosphere, it attracts locals and visitors alike with its mouthwatering piadinas, sandwiches, and seafood. The grilled octopus panini with fresh vegetables and stracciatella cheese comes highly recommended by patrons. With welcoming staff and stunning views, this spot offers delicious food at great value.
I ate here the best octopus pucce in whole Italy. Very local place without that fake touristic scam atmosphere if you know what I mean. Highly recommend.

I randomly found this place, hence I didn’t have high expectations. I ordered a speck puccia and it blow my mind. I enjoyed every single bite. It was super tasty, the amount of ingredients was generous, and the portion size was perfect. The prices are also good (I paid €5 for that, €0,5 for a nice panzerotini, and another €0,5 for an arancini). Super recommended :)

the food - amazing. I took polpo special number 1, it was with grilled octopus and fresh straciatella. so fresh! delicious and very filling, the portions are big. I wish the music wasn’t so loud or the meals weren’t served on plastic plates, but maybe there’s some quaint charm in it too.

The quality of the food is very good. I would say specially sea food is very fresh. However the service is very slow. It took them about 1 hour between we ordered and the food came. We had to ask what happened with our order. Also, food comes with plastic dishes and cutlery which makes it a bit cumbersome to cut.

We stayed 5 mins walk from this beach and came here everyday day for a swim. The beach was a little rocky so would be great to have a swimming shoe or slippers. Water was very clear with fishes even in shallow waters. Watch out for the sea urchin underneath the ‘caves’ on the right. Missed this place so much!

Beautiful beach with access via a caravan park. We were on a motorbike. So no issues squeezing in. The water was clear and slightly cold near the beach because of fresh spring water entering the ocean. But ~5 meters away from the beach the water was warm and still clear! Lovely to swim and relax.

Planty of stones. Access to the sea is not easy. But wort it. Ground parking is nearby. Lot of small fish, caves. Hard basement for lay down is present)). Very nice shade from the bridge during the whole day! Some hidden areas for changing clothes. Very beautiful caves by the right rock-corner. Unforgettable impressions if you come with small party or with your love!

The location and the rooms are beautiful. The view is spectacular, however, on the day of check-out, at 8:20 in the morning, renovation works in the room above us were taking place, forcing us to endure the noise of drills and hammers, which gave us a terribly unpleasant start to the day. During check-out, we were informed that the parking shuttle, which had been provided to us the previous day, was unavailable at the requested time. The way this information was communicated to us was rude, and there was no attempt to assist us in finding a solution. This lack of customer support and care has been very disappointing. As a result, we had to walk to the parking while carrying our suitcases, putting us at risk of missing our next appointment and causing significant stress.

Beautiful entrance to the Old Town
ST S — Google review
(Translated by Google) Actually, it is the gate of the old town on the former castle wall. Through this we can (also) get to the old town with narrow alleys, beautiful terraces, and attractive little square. Even before entering, it is worth taking a look at the fresco inside the gate. Take enough time to walk, because you can find wonders. To the three lookout terraces (according to legend, if someone takes their loved one to all three, who does not know the intention and they look out at the sea together, they can ask for her hand, because the answer will be yes), the clock house, the Santa Maria church, the cave restaurant , we can buy the lucky ceramic flower of the locals, according to some it is an apple, from Pumo Puglia. Or we can just surrender to the feeling of life in Puglia. (Original) Tulajdonképpen az óváros kapuja a valamikori várfalon. Ezen keresztül (is) juthatunk a szűk sikátoros, gyönyörű teraszos, megkapó kis teres óvárosba.
