Nestled within the historic Hotel Julien, Caroline's Restaurant is a delightful destination for those craving American cuisine with a unique flair. Open all day, this stylish eatery offers an extensive menu that caters to every meal of the day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Start your morning off right with their delectable French Yogurt Parfait or savor hearty sandwiches and robust entrees later in the day.
Wow, what a positive exception in the uniform mishmash of American restaurants! We came here with high expectations upon the recommendation of locals. And: We were not disappointed. A professional chef who knows his craft is apparently cooking here. The menu is supplemented by daily offers and these are definitely not burgers or fried chicken. In this way I enjoyed Blue Whiting, which I have never seen before in an American restaurant. Against all expectations, the prices are reasonable, here and there even lower compared to other local restaurants and bars. Highly recommended!

I had a mixed but overall pleasant experience at Caroline’s. The atmosphere is charming—quiet, classy, and located inside the historic Hotel Julien, which adds a nice touch of elegance. Breakfast was good. My husband enjoyed his corned beef hash (he is a connoisseur) and I enjoyed the huevos rancheros. Portions are very generous. Service was lacking, unresponsive and not attentive. All in all, Caroline’s is a solid spot for a relaxed meal, especially breakfast or brunch. Just know it can be a bit inconsistent depending on the day or the dish. I’d return, but with slightly adjusted expectations.
Adriana F — Google review
Exceptional service and the food was awesome!! The restaurant was so cool and vintage looking. Atmosphere was so friendly!
Chernfamily5 — Google review
We have tried to get breakfast three different times. Went to use my gift card from the last mess up they did. We ordered 2 eggs Benedict with crispy hashbrowns paid over 32.00. This is what we got. Such a shame
Kirsten B — Google review
It may not be a cheap restaurant, but the quality and taste of the dishes served are worth every penny to experience ecstasy of the palate. I don't know if every waiter is the same, but our waitress was very professional, energetic and nice. better food than in Chicago.
Trydothat A — Google review
We enjoyed a nice birthday lunch, with everyone happy with their food choice. The old hotel ambiance is very nice, but our server Jason merits five stars on his own. He was upbeat, thoughtful, and injected humor into our visit. We are so happy we celebrated here.
Susan L — Google review
5 star might be a little high, but I walked away from my dinner very impressed. My steak was flavorful and not overcooked. The mashed potatoes were some of the best I’ve had in recent memory. The Martini specials on a Thursday was a welcomed surprise that I made sure to take advantage of. My experience was much better than what’s expected at a traditional hotel restaurant.
Nicholas J — Google review
We had a great breakfast 2 days in a row! Coffee and food was so delicious! Saturday we had Jason as a server and he was phenomenal. Attentive, fun, charismatic, served delicious food. Sunday we had Justin. He was also very good and food was delicious! Highly recommend! Well worth the trip!

If you're on the lookout for a cozy spot that serves up generous portions of classic American fare, look no further than Sunshine Family Restaurant. This charming diner is particularly famous for its breakfast offerings, featuring everything from fluffy pancakes and biscuits drenched in savory gravy to crispy hash browns that are sure to satisfy any appetite. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a perfect place for families or friends to gather over hearty meals.
It's a very popular spot on a Sunday morning! Service was very fast even though every booth and table were full! Our server said there were 7 cooks in the back. Generous portions and friendly staff. As a side note, if you order your meal with onions, we noticed there were a lot, almost to many for our taste....and we like onions. 😀
Andrea G — Google review
Great service and great food! The first question our waitress asked was, “who wants coffee?”. Our food was served to us in less than 10 minutes despite nearly every table being full. The servings were all large and tasted great. I would definitely recommend if you are in the area!
Anna T — Google review
This is our go to breakfast spot when we visit. Prices are reasonable, service is good and the place is always packed. If you’re in the area I highly recommended this place.
Carl D — Google review
Fantastic food, fast service and clean seating. I ordered the meat lovers skillet with wheat toast.
Justin M — Google review
Super packed on a Saturday morning. Super good food for an old-fashioned diner. My kiddo loves going to local breakfast diners wherever we go travel and this one did not disappoint. She got the skillet with all the jalapeños and it was super tasty. Just as an fyi: homemade croissants more like crescent rolls—not laminated, but still good. Great old-fashion service, too. Very enjoyable!

Food was good, filling, and cheap. Liked it alot.

Old school feel restaurant with all day breakfast. YUM. Came in at 10 and had to wait 20 min for a table. Waitress was very kind. Hostess ignored us right away. The person at counter didn’t seat us. We had to find someone near the juice station with a clipboard to put our name on the wait list. The food was a decent amount for price but kinda bland . I got an omelette with Texas toast and honey . It was nummy.

Convivium Urban Farmstead is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing lives through food. Absolutely blown out of the water with the experience I had here!! 12/10 recommend!! The food is incredible! I had the Pesto chicken sandwich. My sister and I shared a sweet potato pancake and it was soooo delicious! The service was great! Met the owner! Just absolutely here for the mission and everything this place represents! Do yourself a favor and visit this place!
Tiffany W — Google review
This not for profit restaurant and farmstead was worth every penny we spent. The selection was greater than expected. The food was just down right fantastic. Quinoa breakfast bowl, the quiche of the day, the breakfast burrito and the better burger were all delicious. The people were buying prepared meals as fast as they were made. As a side the rosemary potatoes were 5 stars.
Richard D — Google review
we visited here on a saturday morning while in town for the weekend & we were so impressed! we knew they were short staffed, but the woman seating & serving us was incredible & very on top of things. & the kitchen was quick & did amazing! i got the sweet potato quinoa bowl & it was so tasty & was the perfect amount. we had a great time here even as they were short staffed so i bet it’s somehow even better with a full staff! i also admire the work they do for the community with the classes & gardens.
Blythe H — Google review
Not your standard restaurant. We stopped in for pizza night with very picky friends. They have a limited menu for pizza, cheese, sausage, pepperoni, Mediterranean and weekly specialty. The specialty was Alfredo this week. All pizzas are personal size so we each ordered. One got the Mediterranean and she said it was one of the best pizzas she's had. I really enjoyed my pepperoni. All profits from the restaurant go to feed and support the neighborhood and the people there are very nice.
Dan J — Google review
A nonprofit café‑restaurant in a restored greenhouse with community gardens. I loved the pork quinoa bowl and French toast bread pudding. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtful. Staff were friendly, passionate, and explained the farm‑to‑table concept. Great ambience, good for brunch or lunch.
Sghaye D — Google review
Neat place for breakfast. Had some different items on the menu. Had the quinoa bowl with chorizo which was tasty. Their sausage was excellent because it had no grease. Service was very good. Specialty drinks good but a little pricey.
Denis D — Google review
We spent a weekend in Dubuque and were really looking forward to brunch here after researching it — I loved the concept and mission. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. We were promptly seated but then ignored while tables around us were cleared and guests who arrived after us were served. After about 15 minutes, I had to walk up to the coffee bar to order drinks myself. Even then, other people’s drinks were made before mine. I mentioned to staff (three separate times) that we weren’t being served while others who came after us were — yet nothing changed. Eventually, I brought the drinks back to our table, but after another 15 minutes of being overlooked while others were attended to, we decided not to stay for food. Despite raising the issue multiple times, we never received an apology or acknowledgment. The concept is wonderful, but the service experience fell far short.
Kelly V — Google review
I don't know how they did it but they made a simple bacon, egg and cheese panini one of the best breakfasts I've ever had! And such a unique concept! Its a garden-to-plate restaurant, built in the heart of a downtown neighborhood, with art from local artists featured in the decor. Their food is made from scratch with ingredients picked from their extensive garden complex built behind the restaurant. Herbs and spices, vegetables, even the eggs gathered fresh from hens they raise! And after eating you can tour their gardens. So cool! And sooooo delicious!

The cozy cafe offers a delectable array of food and beverages, including specialty coffees, teas, sandwiches, salads, and pastries. Guests can also indulge in all-natural fruit smoothies and gluten-free baked goods made from scratch daily.
Jitterz never disappoints. Great coffee, a step above other shops in the area. And a price point lower than others in the area. I had a matcha marzipan scone which was such a surprising flavor and so delicious!

A cozy Main Street staple with great coffee, delicious pastries, and a friendly vibe. The spinach feta croissant and bagel breakfast sandwiches are my go-to. I love passing the time by getting creative with the magnetic poem board while I wait for my drink order. The baristas are always welcoming and do an excellent job. Highly recommend for anyone in the area!

What a fun little find with a Google search of coffee near where we stayed. It was the name for me. The scone and croissant were very tasty too.

The day I got this meme on my phone was the day I had some of the best soup I’ve ever had at their location. Sometimes and often foood is the best part of what ever we are doing so I give my thanks here. Peace !

Nice coffee shop … so low price compared to our Chicago coffee prices $
Helena B — Google review
I came in to dubuque with a craving for coffee, and usually when that hits we head over to a chain coffee shop. That is until I was told Jitterz coffee & cafe offered gluten free options for breakfast. They had a wonderful selection of gluten free muffins that I devoured within seconds of purchase and the coffee was much better than anything i could pick up at a chain shop. I will definitely be coming back again.

Very friendly staff and great hot egg sandwiches, scones, cinnamon rolls, coffee, espresso drinks , etc. we brought our kids and found great options and great prices

I went in and asked if they had coconut oil to put in my coffee. The owner, Bill came over and said he didn't want to lose my business but there was another coffee shop that had it. I really appreciated that and decided to stay and have their coffee which was very good. Great atmosphere!

Nestled in the heart of downtown Dubuque, Charlotte's Coffee House is a cherished gem among local coffee enthusiasts. With its inviting ambiance characterized by warm earthy tones and exposed brick walls, this cozy spot offers plenty of seating options perfect for both quick visits and leisurely afternoons. The stunning woodwork and touches of greenery create an atmosphere that encourages productivity or relaxation alike. Charlotte's boasts a diverse menu that goes beyond just exceptional coffee drinks like their seasonal Almond Joy Latte.
The food and coffee here was phenomenal! It was very busy and there was quite a wait, but it was well worth it!! We were visiting from out of town and I'm looking forward to returning here next time we're in town again! Mobile ordering is also an option to ease the wait if you're not dining in.
Aimee B — Google review
The food and coffee here were delicious! So many breakfast and lunch choices to choose from, and variety on what you could get on your sandwiches. Coffee was good and served fast. The breakfast biscuit was a little bit of a wait, but nothing too crazy. Plenty of indoor seating and also optional seating outside too. You can definitely find something here for everyone!
Hannah M — Google review
This is an amazing stop for both coffee and tasty treats and sandwiches. We loved the atmosphere with plenty of room to choose to sit in such a beautiful place. We had two caramel lattes with oat milk initially and then returned for an Açaí bowl and the best breakfast burrito I have ever had, hands down. Great, friendly service.
Becky — Google review
I visited Charlotte’s Coffee House for the first time yesterday, and it was absolutely amazing. Their açaí bowls were delicious, and the customer service was exceptional. Everyone was smiling, quick, and genuinely kind. I accidentally ordered a small when I meant to get a large, and even though I realized after paying, they immediately fixed it for me at no extra cost. There were plenty of seating options, including a beautiful outdoor area. The whole space felt peaceful and safe. I’m already planning my next visit!
Miley J — Google review
I love Charolettes and we are lucky to have it. They have some real home runs and it’s mostly good but they do have a few misses. If you get something you don’t like, try something else because it is hit or miss. Their acai bowls, pastries, protein oats, black coffee, overnight oats and some lunch items are home runs in my opinion. I like the quesadilla and I add egg for example. Some of the hot breakfast items have been a miss for me. The panini & the burrito are a bit bland so just add some spice/hot sauce. The bread of the panini is a serious miss. I have had it 2x in 6 months and both experiences were the same. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt maybe it was just a bad day. The bread is so hard and chewy it was hard to bite or chew my sandwich. I took my sandwich home and used my own bread. Some items on their menu deserve 5 stars. Some deserve 2. For this reason I gave the food an average of 3. I will continue to go to Charolette's and love it and recommend it I just need to be careful about what I order.
Taylor T — Google review
Probably the best spot in town - and without a doubt, the best açaí bowls in the entire US. Fresh, delicious, and consistently outstanding
Aleksandra K — Google review
The negative reviews on here are crap. I've never had an issue with this place, and it's my favorite coffee house to come to. In fact, I think that I will go there right now.
H T — Google review
I visit this restaurant often because the food and atmosphere are great, and the morning staff provides excellent service. However, during a recent visit, the afternoon staff was unprofessional we asked a simple question and one employee made rude, judgmental comments and spoke negatively about me and my boyfriend in earshot after we turned around to sit down. I hope management addresses this issue, as the food and morning service are otherwise outstanding.

Whether you're looking to unwind on a comfy couch with friends over expertly crafted coffee flights or enjoy a delicious breakfast featuring mouthwatering omelets and quiche, Devour has something for everyone.
My wife and I live outside of the United States, but every time we visit family our one must-visit location in Dubuque is Devour Cafe. It is the best coffee in town. Our personal favorites are the Mayan—absolutely delicious—the dirty chai, and the curry chicken croissant sandwich—a burst of flavor served in chewy, buttery, cheesy pastry. In addition to the delicious drinks and food, the owner of Devour is just a really genuine guy who just seems to love what he does.

We visited for an event and stopped by. Owners are very friendly and treated all guests like friends/family. This is clearly a local favorite. The atmosphere is trendy and modern. They incorporate plants and vintage items into their decor, which made the place feel cozy. The food is fantastic. They sold out of some breakfast food items by 11:30am so we went with the carnitas tacos, and they were SO tasty and fresh. We usually grab and go with our food and beverages, but we were glad we stayed a bit.

This cafe was the highlight of my trip to Dubuque! The vibe was immaculate. The food was amazing. Service was quirky and friendly. They had good coffee. The walls were covered in eccentric and fabulous art. And best of all, an Opera performer started singing during our meal! It was unbelievably awesome. This is a great place to stop for a quick and reasonable breakfast! It has a real hometown feel with counter seating and table seating. Our waitress was very kind and attentive, and our food came pretty quick even with all of the people there. It was pretty busy on a Sunday morning at 10am. There is off site parking that is free and also street parking has meters in Dubuque.

Bartender was great; food was not. Ordered mashed potatoes & got undercooked fries. And the Monte Cristo is listed as coming with raspberry preserves but mine was served with blueberry syrup. Not at all like Bennigan's used to serve
Allie S — Google review
Yesterday, we had a reservation for a party of 8 and there were only 2 other tables with 2-3 people at the time we arrived. It took THIRTY MINUTES after putting in our orders for waters to get brought out to us. Not to mention that we had to remind our server TWICE about our waters. They claimed that they were just “sitting in the back.” It also took AN HOUR for our 4 alcohol drinks to all get brought out, and there were only 4 other people at the bar! All of the food had an off taste and was lukewarm and soggy by the time it was brought out (an hour after putting our orders in as well). Seriously a disappointment. Do not go here.

Stopped in after a wedding reception. Relaxing atmosphere and bartender Ryan was friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely will be a place for us to stop for drinks and conversation when we're in Dubuque. Easy access in and out of Dubuque from there. Thank you.

I had to travel for work and this restaurant was attached to the hotel so it was very convenient for me after long days at work. I had their breakfast sandwich and American fries in the morning. One evening I had the BLTA with a few drinks and the next night I had their siracha shrimp with a few drinks. The breakfast sandwich with american fries were good though average as far as it goes. The BLTA was very good though with a perfect amount of bacon and toppings. The beers were good, cold and refreshing. The next night I had the siracha shrimp which had a few onion rings with it. The sauce is awesome, the shrimp was good, the onion rings were excellent. The only real downside was the excessive amount of breading on the shrimp. It was too much but feeling about half of it off made it just about right. Between myself and my coworkers, we tried just about everything on the menu at some point over the weeks time. The food is highly recommended and really the only downer was the slow service from both the bartender and the waitress on the 1st night. The 2bd night was fine as we had a different bartender and it was slightly less busy. If you are in the area, go try the food, you will be pleasantly surprised.

We went before the symphony. They are supposed to have 1/2 price drinks before the symphony. We inquired about this and we're told no they do not have anything special before the symphony. We are very disappointed as it is clearly in the symphony program book begging patrons to visit before the symphony. Edit: Management reached out and have stated they have gone over the promotion with their staff. We will try again in May when the next symphony will be taking place. I will update after that. Update 05/01/2022: Stopped in before the symphony, this time they were up to speed on their advertisement. Great server! Thank you for supporting our Dubuque Symphony!!

West Dubuque Tap is a popular breakfast and brunch spot located in Dubuque, Iowa. Known for its generous portions and homemade, fresh-cooked food, this family-owned bar and restaurant has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The Magic Muffin is a must-try dish, featuring a hearty combination of eggs, biscuit, hashbrowns, and cheese. In addition to the delicious food, the establishment also serves top-notch Bloody Marys.
The lady's at West Dubuque Tap are phenomenal! They go above and beyond to make your visit enjoyable! I had the pleasure of getting some breakfast to go! Words can't begin to describe how mouth wateringly delicious the food is here! Definitely bring your appetite cause they don't scrimp on anything!

West Dubuque Tap is a fantastic spot with a lively atmosphere and some stellar food. The Bloody Marys are top-notch, perfectly spiced to kick off any visit. Their BLT is a must-try, with fresh-cut fries that hit the spot. And the pork tenderloin? It’s massive and delicious! A solid choice for a laid-back, satisfying meal.

Food and server were great. Location is dark and dated. We went for breakfast and took the kids not realizing how much of a bar atmosphere it had. Food was good but they could have turned a few lights on being 9am.

Cheese curds were fantastic! Grilled cheese was good, fries were fresh and the beer was cold.

Our party of 4 stopped in for a burger. The place is small and average for a Midwest bar. The staff was all female and they were great! Our order was taken and served within 10ish minutes. The prices were reasonable for the amount of food we were given. The burgers looked great and weren't the worst or best we have had. The bun was very lightly toasted, the veggies were fresh and sliced thick, the cheese was flavorless and the meat would have been better if it were seasoned. The sides... the macaroni salad was so sweet, it could have been a dessert! Not for me, but I know some people like it that way. The fresh cut French fries and sweet potato fries were SO Good!!!! All in all, I was impressed by the fries and the quick service, the burger (we all were craving) did not hit the spot, so we will more than likely not return.

This is our favorite place to stop and eat when we are visiting Dubuque. The food is homemade and cooked fresh with big portions. The burgers are great and breakfast is even better. They are known for the magic muffin for breakfast. But all the breakfast items are great. Also, If you love coleslaw you better try theirs. It's the best! It's a little family owned bar/restaurant that makes you feel at home .

What a beautiful hotel. Coming in from Minneapolis for a business trip . Our three night stay was great. Great amenities, pool and hot tub was nice. Front desk staff, very knowledgeable and super friendly. Hotel is clean and smells like the beautiful spa downstairs. Clean rooms, comfortable beds and first class bathroom and showers! If I'm in town again, I'll definitely choose here to stay. Thank you.

Charming lobby. Old world appeal. Qyick check in. Our room was large and pretty! Our window looked out at a side street but still had a view of the water. We could see the tugboats and the huge Mississippi river flood gate if we looked left. Both our beds had 4 pillows on them. The bathroom is larger than most hotels. We had a Keurig with coffee pods and a mini refrigerator. Everything was very clean. We used thd pool and workout foom and found tbose to also be quite clean. We enjoyed our stay here very much.

Bathroom flooded when taking a shower. Directv signal was terrible. Couldn't watch basic over the air channels including Monday night football. Tv volume at 100 percent was barely audible. For over $200 a night you can do A LOT BETTER! No room cleaning unless you request it. Front desk people acted like they would rather be somewhere else. This used to be a nice hotel and we have stayed here in the past and had good experiences. Not this time and the last time we will ever be staying here. Oh and the sign on top of the hotel might be a sign we should have noticed.....OT JULIEN....might be broke

Great location and lots of character to the old hotel. But the rooms are definitely in need of attention/renovation. The thermostat didn't work, and I had to keep calling the front desk to adjust the temperature. Lots of restaurants nearby (don't go to the hotel one called Caroline's-- food cold and mediocre--esp for the price). My suggestion: if you can get a room sub $125/night it is worth it. Anything more and you will be disappointed. Unfortunately, except for Holiday Inn down the road, not much of a selection from which to choose.

My husband and I stayed here when we picked his son up from college. This hotel is absolutely amazing. It is very unique in historical and the rooms are just fantastic. We enjoyed eating breakfast at the hotel as well. Staff was kind and it was really good. We parked across the street Which was easy to get to so access to our car was easy. We are not real familiar with the area, but the location is pretty central to just about everything you need if you are there without a car. We would definitely stay in this hotel again. The vibe was really cool. We also really liked the decorations since it was Christmas time when we visited. Also cool to note the historical points in this hotel. I liked that they had pictures up as well as plaque telling you about some of the people of the past who stayed there as well. Very unique location in hotel. Beds were comfortable. Food was good. Staff was nice. What more can you ask for?

Everything about this place is just a feast 4 the eyes. They really did it up right when they remodeled. It's definitely a top shelf destination now. Lovely historic hotel in the middle of Dubuque. The location is perfect for visiting all that Dubuque has to offer, and is one block the best brewery in town, Dimensional brewing. Village Inn is a family-friendly chain that offers traditional American dishes like chicken-fried steak and pot pie. One satisfied customer enjoyed their 2-2-2 breakfast, consisting of two eggs prepared to their liking, two bacon strips or sausage links, and two homemade buttermilk pancakes. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the sausages were golden brown and flavorful, and the pancakes were fluffy and delicious.
First time ever eating here for breakfast I heard they have the best key lime pie. Unfortunetely, it is out of season so I could not taste it. However, our breakfast was delicious and tasty. Friendly staff and fast service. One thing you have to ask for a glass of water if you want water. All in all great place to eat breakfast. We will be back. Coffee was also food. Thank you, 😊.

A family favorite. Used to dine at a village inn with my grandparents so I enjoy bringing my kids. My kids always love the Smiley face breakfast. I love the eggs Benedict for breakfast and the sandwich, soup and pie for lunch. The workers are nice and friendly. The inside looks like it just got an upgrade.

Excellent food and warm, wonderful service. We had a great waiter, a young man, who was delightful. I can always tell a person who thoroughly enjoys his job. And, he helped us with our VI phone app! In our opinion, Village Inn is a well-run hospitality business. The people who work here are excellent.

First, I like to say our server was very nice and kind and she did a good job. That was the only good thing about our dinner last night. My daughter did not like her kid meal ended up eating her bun because she said it was too hard my sandwich was really dry and had to get extra mayo, my partner‘s food that he ordered had so much fat on the meat that he couldn’t eat it and he was upset. My coffee was decaf and it was not great. I had to put extra half-and-half and sugar in it and they did not refill my partner’s drink, but they did refill my daughters in mine. I hate to write bad reviews, but I wish our experience was a little bit better.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery is a family-friendly chain that specializes in baked goods, breakfast options, and traditional diner-style dishes. Over the years, some issues with unreliable staff on Thanksgiving had caused inconvenience for customers who placed online orders that were unexpectedly canceled without notification. However, thanks to the efforts of the General Manager Mandy, this situation was rectified promptly and she even followed up to ensure customer satisfaction.
The restaurant was clean and we were greeted at the door with a welcoming smile from Ricky. He sat us and got us something to drink right away. My steak was awesome and cooked just as I asked and the waiter made sure we were well taken care of. That was my first time going and I must say the best restaurant in Dubuque!!!!

Well this was a pleasant SURPRISE!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STAR well deserved. We haven’t been to a Perkins for over a year and thought we would revisit to see if there had been any changes to the food and service… Well, YES!! The gentleman that seated us (Ricky) is now the NEW MANAGER!! This is what good management can do… motivate staff, have a very clean restaurant, delicious and HOT food, and friendly staff! This particular Panera in Dubuque, located just off highway 20, was easy to locate. Customers can conveniently place their orders through the app and pick them up when ready.
February 29th my daughter and myself stopped in to use a school gift certificate up👍The place is very nice and relaxing. We ran into some longtime friends, which I haven’t seen in a long time which made the experience that much more enjoyable👍my smoky buffalo melt was delicious, and the macaroni and cheese was also delicious and creamy.

This Panera Bread location was clean and upkept. My food came out quickly and tasted great. My only real issue was that it took nearly 4 minutes standing at the counter in front of the register before someone came up to help me. Meanwhile, multiple employees walked by and even looked in my direction, without saying anything. The person who finally helped me was friendly and helpful.

Plenty of seating spread out all throughout. Good food. Water cups and to go containers are set out and easy to get if you need them. You order on the machine to make things easier but it only takes card. Just be sure to check online to ensure nothing is sold out, it’s been accurate so far.
Reece — Google review
The staff are super friendly every single time I come. The food, if it’s messed up, they fix it or offer resolution without the awkward inconvenience feeling. Food is great. But what matters most to me is how customers are treated and for that they get five stars.
Danielle A — Google review
Ordering via tablet was nice since staff was busy cleaning prior to closing. There were no large cups but staff provided two regular sized as a compromise. It was just me so two cups weren’t needed although the gesture was appreciated. Food was great as always. The dressing was well proportioned on the salad. Great selections of flavored tea as well.
Shanks G — Google review
Inconsistent food quality and no follow through with management reaching out or following up. I typically would eat Panera twice per week and have noticed Inconsistent levels of quality with food from one visit to another. It would at times look like a line cook prepared the food, then the next time a child prepared it. No kidding!! I attempted to remedy the ongoing issue directly with management but there was no follow through on what was said in the email. So here we are. Haven't been back since and unfortunately I feel like I have to post this. Do better! Stop serving sloppy, overpriced food!

I went to eat lunch there and I ordered the broccoli cheddar mac and cheese bowl. They gave me a sad bread bowl and the "soup" was only a third of the way full. It took me like 4 scoops to eat it all and was still hungry. Honestly, I was very disappointed because the price was ridiculous compared with what I got. Never going there again.

Ordered delivery from this location on September 21, 2025 through the Taco John's app. My order included a six pack and a pound with three sides of cheese sauce. Upon receiving my order, it did not include any of the six soft shell tacos with added tomatoes, only one of the two servings of potato oles, and one cheese sauce, along with the delivery being late and food cold. I promptly called the restaurant and was advised by the lady I spoke with that she had "bagged the food" herself and it was there. I stated the food was missing and I had not received it. She then offered to remake the order but I would have to come pick it up or she could give me a refund. I advised that picking the order up defeated the purpose of ordering delivery and would like a refund. She advised she would process a refund. It's nearly two weeks later and my refund has not yet been received. I will never do business with Taco John's again after not only being lied to about a refund, but also for spending nearly $60 altogether on food, delivery fees, and tip and not receiving the bulk of my order.

I placed an order so we could drive through and pick it up. Talk about absolutely disappointing and waste of money. I ordered the loaded potatoes and 2 of the sandwich wraps. There was literally 5 potato rounds a few small pieces of bacon and a little splash of cheese. They cost $3.49 and that is just ridiculous. The wraps were stuffed in the little paper holders and were cold and disgusting. The bacon was like rubbery and cold. We ended up going in to get the order and it's so disheveled in there. We won't be back to this location. We had a bad experience the last time we were there 6 months ago as well and talked to them about it then. They did nothing to make it right but we decided to give it a try again. Lesson learned.

This is only getting one star simply because it remains needing to be heard. I placed a 30 dollar door dash order, upon arrival my doordasher told me they didnt have any donuts. (Why dont you have donuts made if that's what you sell!?) I asked him to have them void the order and they refused. Door dash refused to cancel since they'd already started making my order, and told me to receive a refund id have to have Dunkin void it. They refused to void my order or make it right. And im out 30 bucks now. Whoever your GM is obviously doesnt have management skills.

This place usually sucks, but when the ginger haired girl on night shift is at the window I know my food is gonna be fresh and correct. She’s always so polite and I requested extra hot fudge and she delivered. 10/10

I’ve eaten here several times after work around midnight and they’ve not given the complete order Every . Single . Time. I’m pretty positive at this point the night shift employee is taking part of my order for himself for dinner since it’s almost closing time

Burger King is a well-known fast-food chain that serves grilled burgers, fries & shakes. It is a popular place for people to eat out, and it is often crowded.
This is hands down the best Burger King The people that work there have worked there for years that's how you know it's a good place The food is always top-notch and fast and the counter people are always extremely helpful sometimes the food even looks like the pictures I mean this is just the best Burger King I've ever been to and I'm lucky to work so close to it also the Wednesday Whopper Addams family Burger is insanely good and the bun is purple because they use purple potatoes and it's a potato bun which is actually way different then a regular bun and tastes very good

Only gave two stars for the hot onion rings. I ordered a number eight. Which is one of the crispy chicken sandwiches. Bacon and Swiss, to be exact. As I'm eating on my drive back home, I realize there's no chicken breast on the sandwich. Just a couple of random pieces that have no breading on them. Very disappointing, I knew I should have ordered a whopper. Will never go here for lunch again.

After a bad experience at Taco Bell came to burker king. The man working was so polite and was not in a hurry at all. I was able to take my time looking at menu without being rushed. Very helpful with questions I had. Sad the ice cream machine was not working but he talked me in to the hersey pie yummy!. Keep up the great service :)

Burger King in Dubuque, Iowa, consistently delivers delicious fast food with a smile! The staff is friendly and efficient, ensuring quick service even during busy hours. The classic Whopper is always fresh and tasty, while the clean dining area enhances the overall experience. A great spot for a satisfying meal!

Burger King is a popular fast-food restaurant famous for its flame-grilled burgers, crispy fries, and delicious shakes. In addition to classic meat options, they also offer a housemade veggie burger and the vegan Impossible Burger. Customers can enjoy sides like pineapple charred rice or sweet potato fries. Despite some issues with order accuracy, many people still find the food at Burger King to be consistently tasty and satisfying.
The food has been hot and fresh and tasting good. Did stop in on Friday the staff was all young that night and food wasn't nearly as good. Sandwiches were luke warm at best, one order of FF were just out of the fryer while the other order was just warm. This is really one of the best BK's I've everbeen to.

Where do I start? Hmm let's start with the outside appearance of the place. There's trash in the parking lot usually from employees cleaning out their cars. The entrance is always greasey looking from kitchen floor. The outside of the windows are gross let alone the inside of the windows. The bathrooms are disgusting 🤢. There's usually always something on the floor because they only spot sweep instead of fully sweeping the lobby. The kitchen from what I can see from the counter is an accident waiting to happen. A person could easily get hurt in there because that floor in there is so greasey. I see they don't use 1 knife anymore for everything. The cross contamination in that place is horrendous. I have personally had diarrhea several times from eating undercooked hamburger. The tomatoes looked like the were rotten so I took them off my sandwich. I pretty much just had lettuce, onion and mayonnaise. The general manager here is a complete joke. He shouldn't even be in the supervisor of a daycare. He has no leadership skills at all. Instead of leading them and teaching his employees he belittles, curses and makes fun of his employees not in private but right in front of staff and customers. Seriously I have been in there eating my meal with my kids and he was yelling at a worker throwing his hat like he's a child. I've never seen such an unprofessional and discombobulated, chaotic circus. Most of the time I would go there and order either inside or drive thru and I'm told they are out of one thing or another. The people on the drive thru are very rude especially the woman on night shift. They mess up orders left and right. Im surprised there is still a door on there because of the customers coming in from drive thru because #1wasnt what they ordered #2 wasn't made the way they asked it to be made #3 is was cold #4 it was somebody else's order. They need equal amount of staff on each shift. Oh and don't get me started on how long a person has to wait for a whopper, fries and a medium soda. I think 30 minutes is tooooo long of a wait dontcha think. This store really needs to be shut down or get the main manager out of there. I think I read his name tag as Willie. He is the one I always he yelling at his staff in front of customers and he doesn't care if there are children are in the lobby he uses curse words in front of them... Whomever hired him needs to rethink their decision. I don't think he knows how to order inventory because if he did they wouldn't run out of product all the time. And the coffee when they do have coffee um well tastes like decaffeinated coffee. Plus it didn't help wake me up I had to stop elsewhere and get caffeine coffee. It's a joke there and very chaotic during the day until about oh I'd say 10-11pm is the latest I've gone. Hey BIG BOSS!!! HIRE SOMEONE WITH MORE BRAINS THEN THE CLOWN TOU HAVE RUNNING THAT PLACE NOW. IT COULD BE A NICE RESPECTABLE ESTABLISHMENT IF SOMEONE ELSE WAS IN CHARGE.
Keshia — Google review
I believe this was probably the rudest experience I’ve ever had at a drive up fast food local restaurant. There were maybe three cars in the parking lot, I believe they were workers as it was 7:30 PM on a Monday night. No one in the dining room that I could tell when no one else in the drive-through yet when I pulled up and the menu Recording Jesus greeted me the server rudely told me to wait. I tried to order the promo sandwich and she interrupted me and said that they couldn’t make that sandwich today when I asked when they could make it next she said tomorrow. Not sure why. Fries were stale and onion rings not hot
Cheryl K — Google review
Childish manager leading childish staff. Last three visits, they messed up my orders; always forgetting sauces then tried charging twice for said sauces once, young lady yelling through the drive thru window at a customer, ask for your order to be corrected and they make you feel like you’re an inconvenience. Called once to report my order being wrong and the manager blatantly said, “Hang up the phone.” In the background as the staff answering requested manager to pick up the phone. I won’t be going back. I understand working with the public can be challenging but the behaviors exhibit by staff is unprofessional and unwelcoming.

Nothing like paying for extra lettuce and getting like 4-5 strands of lettuce. When paying $0.50 for lettuce I should a good amount of lettuce. Also, the skimping on fries is getting old. Why do I get a large free but only filled to medium? See attached pics. This is unacceptable and you need to do better!

This morning, my pregnant wife has a craving for specifically a caramel hot chocolate from McDonald’s. Went in, ordered at the register (not self service), and waited. Got the drink, and went home only to realize that it was a caramel mocha. Since she’s pregnant, she can’t have caffeine (on top of us not drinking coffee) So I went back to get it replaced. Had to explain to the employee AND the manager that I didn’t want a mocha, but a hot chocolate. No coffee. With caramel syrup. After a while they gave me a hot chocolate (minus the caramel). Asked for the caramel syrup, and after more back and forth they said they said they were out of caramel syrup. Didn’t really believe them.. but whatever. I didn’t want to make a scene. When I got back home my wife called and asked if they had caramel syrup, person said yes. She asked why didn’t they give me it and then they hung up on her. She called again, got a different person who spoke English, understood exactly what we wanted and said to come back sometime later, my name was written down and to get it. Cool. Glad we got progress. Few hours later I drove back (with preggo wife, who’s just been wanting this stupid caramel hot chocolate) to get it. Person don’t understand what we were talking about. Our name was not written down, at least where he checked. After minutes of explaining with multilple people, We FINALLY got a CARAMEL HOT CHOCOLATE. Come on guys. It took me coming 3 times and talking to 9+ employees. It’s not that hard!!!! Most incompetent Mcd I’ve seen full stop

Never in my life have I had worse customer service than from the night manager of this McDonald's. All I asked was for her to take the 30 seconds to edit my order into 2 because 2 people in my car were ordering food. I was polite about it because I know it takes almost no time because I've worked at a McDonald's for 5 years. She then gets snarky with me and refuses to give me what I ordered. Don't give these people your time because they clearly don't care about you.

Restaurant was totally empty, which was fine (it was 6:30pm) but being empty I would have thought it would have been cleaner. The tables were not cleaned and the floor had stuff on it right where you ordered. Staff was nice. Couldn't understand the woman who put our bag on the counter. We had ordered our food for dine in so I wasnt sure if it was ours. I asked if it was ours and someone else said the number. The spanish music playing was a little too loud for the woman to hear me ask her what she said and she was busy singing anyway. They were nice enough but I did feel like I was a Mexican restaurant and not a McDonald's in Dubuque Iowa lol. The food was very good, my burger was ordered without onions and it was correct. My son's burgers were ordered plain and were also correct. And my husband said his daily double was one of the best he had ever eaten. Fries were very hot and grease was clean. Food really was very good. If the store had been clean and they had the Spanish music turned down and someone speaking clearly that handed out the food I would have given a 5. But overall very good and it wasn't dirty enough that I would complain but when the store is empty I would have thought it would have been spotless. Good food outweighs the bad though!

I mean it's a McDonald's, there's. Not much to say. Food is... Food. I will say, since the nice group that took it over a few years ago they've almost always gotten my order right. Before the took over my orders were wrong probably 2 out of 3 times.

I went in the Dubuque McDonalds to purchase 2 ice teas. One sweetened one unsweetened. The middle aged woman with short dark hair and eyeglasses sitting on a stool behind the register informed me ice tea was no longer self serve. I waited 15 minutes for the drinks. When I asked the server which one was sweetened and which one wasn’t, she did not comprehend my question because she did not understand English. I deferred back to the lady behind the counter who blatantly replied that she saw the employee pour sweet tea. Neither tea was sweetened. Moral of my story; make your tea at home. Mc Donalds doesn’t care about their consumers.

McDonald's is a well-known, longstanding fast-food chain famous for its burgers and fries. The wait time is minimal, and they consistently serve hot and correct orders, providing an excellent breakfast experience. Although lunch visits may be infrequent, the late-night drive-thru remains always bustling with customers. Nevertheless, their efficiency in delivering food quickly is commendable. During peak breakfast hours, the staff efficiently handles the rush while ensuring quality food.
So stoked about this McDonald's! Seriously! Steak, egg, and cheese bagel... YES PLEASE! 🥯🥯 I'll take two! Incredibly friendly and helpful employees eager to help! Clean, clean, clean! Plenty of parking. Five stars across the board! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thanks y'all!!

This McDonald's is understaffed even though the staff is super nice. The place was super busy. The drive through had a line and inside there were at least 9 parties in front of me. It is the the longest wait I have ever had in any McDonald's. There were nothing but issues with ever order. There was a lady whose order just disappeared from their system. All the orders on the screen showed all the orders being served when they had not even started them. They were out of chocolate milk for my son's Happy Meal. When a McDonald's runs out of something it is evident there are underlying issues there. Also, I ordered a double quarter pounder which from my understanding McDonald's makes fresh. Well, the patties were dry and just about burnt. There were also some black pieces of something on my patties and in the box. Lastly, the Play Place is decent and there is a big area for seating but would not recommend stopping hear because you will stay way longer than you want to stay.

I hate to be that person but me and my cousin came through to get the monopoly things and got food and we ordered online specifically under the monopoly section and so when we got our food and drinks we only got 2 out of 5 of the monopoly things which I didn't care too much about but we went through to see if we can get the 3 we missed and they could barely even understand me and looked at me like im crazy and stupid honestly if the monopoly thing cant be served with the item dont advertise it and also when I brought it up to them they told to me to talk to the manager which will just waste my time even more and im sorry but the fact they were laughing at us because we were trying ti get them and probably talking some shit with the way they were looking at eachother. won't be going to this location again❤️

Hands down the best McDonald’s experience ever, and we’ve been to McDonald’s a million times. The lady manager with shorter hair was the sweetest McDonald’s employee we’ve ever encountered. She handled the rush with ease and made sure everyone was taken care of, taking orders and running food. The kitchen made the food so fast despite the rush. We have never been to this McDonald’s before but we will make the 20 min drive again, just to have this experience again.

Ended up with food poisoning after eating ONLY McDonald's yesterday 10/16/2025, had VERY upset stomach within half hour of eating, followed by throwing up at 1130pm and still more than 12 hours later. Called manager and she seemed to NOT care. Claiming it wasn't their food, and that it had to be something else WHEN I DID NOT EAT ANYTHING OTHER THAN THEIR FOOD. Food & health department WILL be called

Never gets my order right. I tried using the app thinking maybe it was a language barrier at the box getting my order messed up but no luck. Even when I used mobile last two times both were messed up. Apparently ‘no onions’ means slather on tons of diced onions on every burger. In fact go ahead and stuff them in the middle of a couple pieces of cheese so the customers can’t scrape them off either. At this point it’s malicious. The foods not cheaper than Hardee’s anymore either. There are other options in the area that don’t mess up every order.

Overall, customers appreciate the great customer service and enjoy visiting Starbucks for their favorite drinks while on the go.

Hyvee Locust Starbucks Ordered 3 drinks with extra stuff per request of whom I was buying for. They have less then normal and when I politely asked if that was the order for extra she said ya and they have it. Very poor service and no extras that were paid for as I watched them be made. Regretting leaving a $5 tip before I got my drinks. They could have politely just added the extra to the drinks.

They really need to hire better management. I walk in on 1/8/25 around 9pm. No one spoke but looked at me and went back to work. After 5 min I ask is anyone able to help me. Restaurant was clean. They seemed really busy and short staffed. Even with those challenges, the staff was friendly and keeping up with orders. Food could have been hotter. And potatoes ole were way too salty. Tried the Boss burrito with steak and it was so-so.

The decor is bland, the table I sat at was dirty, and the over all experience was just kind of blah. It took us 7 minutes from the time we stood at the front if the line at the counter, until someone actually acknowledged us. The food was OK. Potato bites were over salted. The soft taco was pretty good. The meat and potatoes burritos had refried beans and meat but no potatoes. I used to like this place but I am now realizing that it was always because it was after midnight and I was hammered to the gills.

45 minutes from speaker to window waiting for food. 35 of them sitting at the window waiting after paying. Could not get the attention on any one of the 3 employees I could see. When I I finally got my food, they forgot our potatoes. Main Entrance was locked. Had to get back in line at the drive-thru. The one employee was extremely rude to me when I informed him off their mistake and stated if they were not ready I would give them the rest of the food back and take a refund. By the time it was all said and done, I didn't nearly an hour of my day and $38 for two people (2 meals)trying to get dinner. This is not the first time for extremely long wait times and rude staff. Don't waste your time or money. The food was barely edible. We threw half of it away.

If I could rate 0 stars I would. Menu is never updated at the drive thru, and today after placing an online order and upon getting there proceeded to wait about 25 to 30 minutes before they even started making my food. They never once asked me what order I was waiting on they ignored everybody standing at the desk waiting for help or to order. I will probably never come back here. 0 STARS

Save yourself and don't come here. Told to pull up in drive thru, waited over 25min. No other cars in drive thru. Only staff cars in parking lot. Went inside and guy said sorry, they were busy. When it was evident they were not. Don't waste your time or money. The food was barely edible. We threw majority of it away, $50 worth.
Jake A — Google review
The food was good, except for the fact they lost my order. I think they should give the customers a number like most restaurants do or start asking first names so they dont get orders mixed up
Stephanie W — Google review
Have stopped here twice now on our travels. Both times I have had my order messed up in some way, from the wrong meat on a burrito to entirely forgetting items. This most recent time the food was lukewarm, not hot. Also had us pull around to the parking lot when we were the only car in the drive-thru but not sure what that’s about. I will end by saying that the workers are generally pleasant, but the service could be better.

Birdie's Bistro, located in downtown Dubuque Iowa, is a clean and spacious gem that offers a welcoming atmosphere for breakfast and lunch. The menu features a good selection of dishes such as the scrumptious breakfast burrito with bacon and country potatoes. The attentive staff, like Janell, ensures a hospitable experience by frequently checking on tables for refills. Visitors praise the excellent French toast, perfectly poached eggs Benedict, and delicious key lime pie.
Our breakfast was amazing! We had a breakfast burrito and a 2 egg breakfast with their signature potatoes. Everything was cooked to order and cooked to perfection in my opinion. $11.99 for the breakfast burrito and potatoes but it was a lot of food! The service was good and servers were friendly.

Birdie’s Bistro – Breakfast Chimichangas Done Right As a cook myself, I’m always curious not just about how food tastes—but how it’s put together. I recently visited Birdie’s Bistro and ordered the Breakfast Chimichangas. Let me say: they were excellent. The menu says deep-fried, but the texture and flavor left me intrigued. It wasn’t greasy or overly crispy like you'd expect. Subtle. Clean. Well-executed. I had to figure it out for myself, and when I did—props to the kitchen. No spoilers here, cooks. Don’t give away your secrets. The flavor balance was spot on. Savory, warm, and perfectly satisfying without being heavy. It’s clear the crew back there knows what they’re doing. Nicely done!

Had lunch here with my grandpa. I got the special, which was shrimp and grits. Honestly was the best grits I've ever had, and the shrimp was tasty and well prepared. The portion was huge. Grandpa had chicken tenders, country potatoes and a house salad. He enjoyed it all and had leftovers. I had iced tea and gramps had coffee. We split a piece of key lime pie. Service was very good, and the food was excellent (salad was average, but unobjectionable.) Total bill with 20% tip was $55 and change. A but much fir lunch, but grandpa had leftovers, and I could have eaten half my entree and been full, but it was too good to stop 😉 We'll be back.

Bagel shop
Bakery
Breakfast restaurant
Einstein Bros. Bagels is a popular counter-service chain known for its wide selection of egg sandwiches, soups, salads, and baked goods alongside a variety of bagels. Customers appreciate the excellent food and pleasant atmosphere at this establishment. The staff is often described as polite and friendly, making it a great spot to grab coffee and a bagel while getting work done. However, some have noted that during the summer months, the store may be short-staffed with limited hours.
They have excellent food and a wonderful atmosphere. The employees are very polite and friendly. I love going down there to get coffee and a bagel when I am doing some computer work.

This is on a college campus and was pretty busy. The people behind the counter were efficient. The food was good. Because this is on a college campus, I couldn't use my Einstein gift card. That's the only reason I went there. They don't take coupons either. They only accept Loras College gift cards. It doesn't make sense to use everything else of Einstein's but not their currency. It's a shame it's the only Einstein franchise in Dubuque.

Waited behind 2 cars for 15 minutes this morning. Paid almost $20 for a breakfast sandwich, a bagel and cream cheese, chai tea and a cappuccino. Then when rushing to work realized the cappuccino was just coffee. Will not go back.

We ordered and got our food promptly, and then I had to wait over 15 minutes for my northern light latte and had to actually remind them for it. Coffee is boiling but the food was lukewarm, so obviously cold by the time I got my coffee. I dont know how scheduling works or if someone called in, but you definitely need more than 2 people around 730 AM because I am sure I got forgotten due to the lines. Maybe I'll try the one in CR as I dont visit Dubuque often, but I get more food on my bagel and quicker service at Breuggers for less money. Spent over 20 bucks for 2 bacon, egg, and cheese bagels, an OJ, and the coffee. Leaves a little to be desired. 🤷‍♀️

It's ok, quick service. Unfortunately you cannot use your rewards at this location and this is the only Einstein bros in Dubuque now
Emily K — Google review
The coffee was so HOT air really burned my mouth. There was no juice. The answer given to me was I don’t know. I did finally get some. But was almost ready to leave when I finally got a blueberry muffin that I ordered. I asked if there were knives. No we are out. So I asked. Could you cut the bagel. Just not good service. And many people working. But seemed low on supplies.

I love Einstein Brothers Blueberry bagel with a maple syrup flavored cream cheese shmear. I go to Einstein all the time in Clive, Iowa. . When I visited Dubuque, I learned there was an Einsteins Bagels in the Welcome Center at Loras College. I went there on a Saturday morning for my daily bagel and coffee. I loved it. I highly recommend it. The prices are competitive. The parking is free. It is in the Welcome Center. It is just up West up the hill on Loras Avenue from the Port of Dubuque.

Love.....love Einstein Bagel. I was so excited to see it open in Dabuque. I moved to the area two years ago from the Chicago of which I was a frequent customer at the EB there.

Breakfast restaurant
Nekter Juice Bar is a delightful local chain that specializes in health-focused drinks, cleanses, and snacks. Their menu features an array of delicious options, including their signature unsweetened acai bowl blended with fresh fruits like pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, and banana—perfectly complemented by housemade cashew milk. Topped with hempseed granola and more fruit, these bowls are not only tasty but also generous in size—ideal for sharing during lunch!
Great juice bar! I have visited a couple of times and have never have any issues with my order or service. Always fresh and yummy!

Healthy options, great taste and wonderful customer service. Everything on the menu is good. Love all the options no matter what your need, pregame meal, cleanse, detox or sweet treat.
Renee F — Google review
Friendly staff with a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. The bowls taste amazing and they are huge. I love the variety of options in the menu. My #1 choice to take my family for a quick and easy meal. My kids love it here.
Masey B — Google review
Not horrible but not amazing. I had high hopes for a good place to get an Acai bowl. The Acai is blended and not a sorbet and doesn't have great flavor pretty bland and water down tasting compared to other chain Acai bowl places. Too expensive for what is offered. A good try though.
Olivia N — Google review
This place it’s amazing, I’m addicted to their bowls
Kimberly A — Google review
Solid choices on the menu and the serving sizes are plentiful.

Definitely recommend, my favorite spot for acai bowls, you can split one bowl and it is the perfect amount for lunch for two people! This location is always spotless and you can tell the owner takes pride in their business.

I went to get dinner at Champs for my family as I pulled in I seen the worker smoking a cigarette afterwards we both walk in and go towards the kitchen. The worker didn't wash his hands or put gloves on before he started cooking food i was absolutely grossed out.. Better hygiene needs to be taught!
