A hyperactive market bursting with local sights, sounds and smells. Very close to my hotel, the bazar literally offers everything under one roof. From souvenirs, dry fruits, fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, baked goods, clothes, toys and so much more. They have a money exchange there too. Prices are reasonable and fresh produce is of top quality. They even have a salon, prayer room and several cafes. Quality of fruits I bought was excellent. Don't miss it!

One of the advantages of shopping here is that you can bargain with the vendors and purchase items according to your budget. Green Bazaar also has a dedicated meat section where you can buy different types of meat, including goat, horse, cow, lamb, chicken, and even pork. Great place. Clean. Lots of interesting food, don’t be afraid to ask for a sample. And prices are fair if you choose to buy. I bought few varieties of delicious horse meat sausage, some horse milk smoked cheese, etc. There is also other areas and levels with fresh fruit, dried fruit, Korean food, local souvenirs, clothing etc.

Lots of stuff sold here. Meat section was amazing. Felt and looked clean. Huge bazaar that takes time to walk around. Easy to get turned around due to many aisles and doors that lead to different sections.

This museum has its strengths and areas for improvement. The stuffed animal section is visually impressive, and I enjoyed the current affairs and information on the top floor. However, the lack of English translations, especially beyond the top floor and in the art section, is a major drawback—making it hard to understand the exhibits. Entry is incredibly cheap, and there’s a paid section too.

It was interesting to visit this museum. All collections were engaging. The museum interior space is beautiful 😍. Its not too large, so you can proceed everything 1 hour. It is kid friendly.

More interpretive displays, storytelling elements, or interactive features would help transform raw data into engaging narratives that casual visitors can easily absorb and appreciate.

It also houses a stunning Gold Jewellery Museum within the same premises — definitely worth a visit. ✅ Tips for visitors: • The museum is closed on Tuesdays — plan accordingly. • You’ll need about 1–2 hours to explore comfortably. • Ticket price: 5,000 ₸ per adult. • The Archaeology Museum is part of the same complex. • Ask for an English-speaking guide — without one, it’s hard to understand the exhibits, and a self-tour (“DIY”) isn’t very rewarding. Quite complex museum, because of its history! Hopefully they will provide English translations on the few signs available only in Kazakh and Russian, but its the minority. I spent 2hrs30 or so; sometimes the narrative seems quite difficult to follow, particularly with the nomadic cultures. Absolutley recommended! Also keep an eye on events; I had the change to attend a reading memorial, which I enjoyed even if I couldn't understand the language. Take your time to enjoyed the gold exhibition!

A three-level museum, with the most interesting sections covering animal history, including dinosaurs. It would have been even better if guides or an audio tour were available throughout. Some exhibits had audio guides via an app, but not all.

A beautiful mosque in the middle of the city. The golden tops are particularly attractive and can be seen from quite the distance, it was even visible from our apartment. The surroundings are very clean and well maintained with tulips blooming here and there.

Beautiful mosque in the center of Almaaty city. It is absolutely gorgeous outside. If you have a chance check out the main interior ( sadly only available for men). The interior space dedicated for women was honestly rather sad looking. Free toilets and washing facilities available outside.

I did not get a chance to go there. It is not as much as the touristy websites tell you. If you seen other mosques in Middle East or Central Asian Republics, then you won't miss anything at least from the outside.

Central Mosque is located in the central part of the city, just a block from the Green Bazaar towards Sayakhat bus station (to the north). The building has beautiful, tall minarets with golden domes. It has the big inner yard that also contains a small park as well as some other buildings, such as for the mosque administration and charity. Tourists are welcome to come in to see the interior of prayers rooms. It is open most of the time during the day, and most likely has lots of visitors gathering on Fridays, so it's better be visited all other days during the daytime hours. If you are in the Green Bazaar, walk down the Pushkin street till Mametova street to reach it, it is a few minutes walk.

For beginners, this park house the Ascension Cathedral, museum of instruments, war memorial. One walk around the park and you will cover most of the attractions. Pleasant walking track, small shops, kid friendly stroll and further walk leads to the central park. Put your best walking shoes.

Big beautiful park in the centre of Almaty. Good for walking and relaxing. It includes Ascension Cathedral, war museum, and a lot of monuments. Some ice cream vendors and playing area for children.

Nice park. Better maintained than the First President Park. The monuments were classic. Reminds one of the two world wars. The ice creams sold are very bad. The cotton candy was okay.

The park is the most fantastic in early summer morning. It’s a historical place. There is a famous Cathedral that stood the devastating earthquake of 1911.

I absolutely loved the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty such a beautiful building the colorful wooden architecture , especially the greenery of Panfilov Park. Stepping inside felt calm and peaceful, It’s amazing to think the whole structure is made of wood and has survived for over a century. I visited Zenkov Cathedral (Ascension Cathedral) in Almaty during summer with my family. You would never feel that no nails were used in its construction—the wooden walls look like a normal solid building. Beautiful Orthodox Cathedral. Gorgeous interior and exterior. Try not to wear shorts or short skirts. They have head covering scarfs available for free on site.

Tucked inside peaceful Panfilov Park, Ascension Cathedral is one of Almaty’s great and free tourist attractions. Built entirely of wood without nails, its bright domes and pastel colors shine against the trees (which were snow covered in our visit in early November. This is a Russian Orthodox Church and features many beautiful murals of religious icons. There is also stunning stain glass windows and a large chandelier. Candles can be purchased from a small shop outside. Women will need to cover the head (free scarves available for loan inside) and also wear long sleeves and pants/skirts. Men need to remove all headwear. Photos can be taken but not of any people praying. Donation boxes located inside the church but otherwise free entry. Look for mural of Jesus with a six pack outside the church.

A nice place on hill top and can be reached by Gondola. . The entire city can be visualised . A very good place for children for various sports and activities.

Kok Tobe is a fun and scenic spot in Almaty! The view over the city from the top is amazing, especially at sunset. You can take the cable car up, which is a nice ride, or go by car. There are cafes, souvenir shops, and even a small amusement park it’s great for a chill walk or a date. Clean, well maintained, and worth a visit!

The atmosphere is more “family outing” than “quiet retreat,” with a touch of noise and activity around. If you’re after true tranquility and deeper connection with nature, you might need to wander a bit further from the main area.

Great place to spend an evening. You can reach the top via a cable car. There are lots of activities and games on the hill. Great views of the city.

Kok tobe is under maintenance when we arrived, thus we go to the upper part of the area and paid 3000 tenge for the transportation going to uphill and back. When we arrived it’s already dark even though it’s still 4-5pm, the sun goes down vert early. Can seee the city lights glowing. The park is really impressive with different activities that can be done. Our most fave is the fast coaster - it’s very thrilling, if you don’t know how to break maybe it will cost your heart to beat very fast. It’s really high and fast - but one of the memorable memory that we have. Must try♥️

Not that a big museum. But if you are interested in instruments, can be enjoyable. There are not only Kazakhstan instruments, also the other countries one. Entrance fee was 1500 tenge (2025).

This is a great place for those interested in examining musical instruments. There are many examples of dombra-style instruments from their original owners. You can find both stringed and wind instruments in this museum.

A small but very interesting museum showcasing traditional musical instruments from Kazakhstan. The dombra and the kobyz (stringed lutes) featured heavily but harps, flutes, drums and accordions were also well displayed. The displays are beautifully presented behind anti reflection glass with signage in Russian and English. There are video presentations showing the instruments being played. Could spend about 1 hour here. There is also a gallery with international instruments from South East and Eastern Asia. Free toilets downstairs. Well worth a visit.

Not a vast museum, but a densely packed one at that. They’ve got a good collection of instruments on display, not on from across Central Asia, but from around the world.

A nice museum with Kazakh instruments and instruments from around the world. Nicely labeled, including English. It takes about 1 hour to visit if taking your time and observing. If you're not interested in reading, it might only take 15 minutes.

The Almaty Ballet Theatre, located near the entrance of Panfilov Park, is a beautiful cultural landmark. The building has an elegant architectural style and hosts impressive ballet and dance performances. Even from outside, it’s worth a visit for its design and atmosphere, and inside it offers a true taste of Almaty’s artistic spirit. the Almaty Ballet Theatre (often referred to as the Abay Opera and Ballet Theatre) was built during the USSR period. Construction started in the 1930s and it officially opened in 1941, becoming one of the major cultural centers of Soviet Kazakhstan.

Very nice place in the centre of the city. No performances are there but the area around is impressive.

After brunch, we wandered around and stumbled upon the Abay State Opera. The building’s architecture is stunning, with a beautiful fountain out front. Right in front is Panfilov Street, perfect for a relaxing stroll after admiring the opera house.

We went to see Madame Butterfly abd it was really nice. The voices are strong, the building is beautiful, and the audience is so warm and welcoming to the artists. There are subtitles in Kazakh, Russian and English.

Great Views and Enjoyable Experience Visited during summers and it was such a great experience. The cable car ride was smooth and scenic. Once on top of the hill, you can view the entire city. Few of the rides are fun. The food stall also serves delicious snacks. If you are visiting Almaty, this is a much visit place!

Good short cable car ride to Kok Tobe allows you to catch a beautiful view of Almaty from the hill top. The restaurant at top provides good refreshment options. Kok tobe provides some games and entertainment for families with young children who can enjoy the amusement park and fun games

Kok Tobe a fun and memorable part of my trip The cable car ride up the hill gave me these amazing views of Almaty spreading out below I keep snapping photos. Once at the top, everything felt so lively and cheerful, from the little shops and cafes to the small amusement park. I loved wandering around, taking in the view of the mountains in the distance, and just enjoying the fresh air. It was one of those places where you can really soak in the city, the scenery, and just the joyful energy all around.

There are two ways to reach the top. 1 is through the cable car and 2 is through a bus. If you want a good view of city then take the cable car and will cost you 8000T for a round trip(Adult) / 4000T for kids. Where as the bus cost you 3500T for adults. Visit during the sunset time to have a beautiful view of sunset and the city with lights. There are so many rides and entertainment for kids including feris wheel, roller coaster 🎢, dashing cars, mountain climb etc. Carry water bottles because everything is expensive there. There is a mini zoo on the top.

The museum has some interesting exhibits, but if you’re a foreigner, the $10 entry fee just isn’t worth it. It’s ten times what locals pay, which is completely unfair. No wonder foreigners don’t visit this city or come anywhere near this place

Really nice collection of Kazakh art from many different time periods. The museum is nicely structured and well lightened. Some people complain about the high foreigner price which I don't agree with, its good that the government subsidizes locals so they can also visit, us tourists can easily afford a 8 euro ticket.

I was really looking forward to visiting this museum, but unfortunately, my experience was quite frustrating. The entrance fee for foreign tourists was 5,000₸, which is ten times higher than the local rate of 500₸. I understand that some countries apply differential pricing, but this kind of extreme markup felt unfair and exploitative especially since the foreigner pricing was only displayed at the ticket booth, not online. I had done research in advance and wasn’t aware of this huge price gap, which felt intentionally hidden. To make matters worse, the conditions inside were unacceptable. There was no AC even though it was 38°C outside, and the indoor environment was stifling. I was sweating so much that my back was completely soaked. The staff members were using brochures to fan themselves, clearly also struggling with the heat. On top of that, many of the exhibit rooms were dark, with no lights turned on, so I had to rely on faint sunlight through nearby windows to even see the artworks. The exhibition itself was also disappointingly small. And due to the poor lighting and oppressive heat, I couldn’t even appreciate the pieces that were on display. It made me question what exactly I paid 5,000₸ for. While I still love Kazakhstan and had many wonderful experiences here, this visit left a bad impression. It felt like foreign visitors were being treated as easy targets for inflated fees, without being offered the basic comfort or quality that should come with the price. I even saw other tourists at the ticket booth turn away once they saw the pricing. I rarely leave negative reviews, but in this case, I feel compelled to say: not recommended. I have photos and videos that show exactly what I described; the heat, the darkness. I truly hope the museum reconsiders its pricing and facilities for the sake of future visitors. P.S. they did start to turn on the lights(ridiculous to even mention) when I was leaving. English not provided or provided minimal which I think its close to nothing. So english reliant tourists, dont waste your money and time here..

The museum is currently closed and is going to reopen in December. The pictures show that the exhibition appears to be very successful and includes a good variety of artworks.

This is one of the best museums in Almaty and the main gallery complex in the city. It us named after one of the biggest artists in the history of Kazakhstan. The gallery houses art, mainly, from Kazakh artists ranging from the 19th century to the modern times. It will be a great experience to visit this place if you are into arts.

It was so nice to see the various instillations and how artists have adapted interpreted Kazakh culture into their creative practice.

We visited this mall to escape the heat and grab a bite. The facility is great overall, though the entrance area isn’t very stroller-friendly. The mall was very clean, with many brands, and the food court was nice. The children’s play area was excellent too.

A mall with many brand names stores. Good mall for shopping for well-known clothes and stuff. The prices are as normal as the brand clothes cost, not different prices from what you would pay in Europe or USA. To my surprise, LEGO shop is also in the mall. I didn’t see the shop, but I saw a couple of LEGO display throughout the mall. The food court is on the 3rd floor. Different American food and other options. There are different seatings you can sit and relax for a little while. The location is convenient. There are many buses outside the mall.

Such a big and comfortable shopping mall. I went there several times for shopping for food and market of course. So many different shops inside the building which we don’t have some of them in Azerbaijan malls. Prices are quite similar wit Azerbaijan.

The last stop on our Almaty city tours was Almaty Museum. It’s a small museum with 11 rooms explaining the history of Kazakhstan. The final room with 1986 upraising are impressive….That gives us some hope…

One of the worst designed shopping mall I have ever seen in my life. Even the 50 year old malls won't make you fell stressed you out like this one here. Such a low ceiling, it makes you feel like you are in an underground metro station. What kinda genius architect and construction company came up with this plan to build such a crazy shopping mall. There is only one thing nice here, the cafes near the main road. That's it. If you go here for shopping you gonna face such a great disappointment. Not the right place to go shop in the city.

A huge place, which is a part of erstwhile Soviet times exhibition centre. Now just a shopping place. Surprisingly beautifully and tastefully constructed, decorated. A lot of boutiques and services available. The place is good enough even for a casual walk or window shopping.

We visited here during October evening. The place was cold peaceful and the sunset is beautiful. We didnt took the cable car, rather we completed the climb on foot and when we reached on the top, the sunset and the city view was really mesmerizing. Holy blessed sacred place!

It is perhaps the most imposing structure in the whole park. The monument is homage to the Kazakh soldiers who fought during the world wars in the past century. It is a common photoshoot area for locals and tourists.

Located just behind Zenkov cathedral. It is one of the famous historical structures of Almaty and also a popular tourist attraction. Nice place to spend time. Green Bazar and Rakhat chocolate factory are both just a few blocks away from this place...

Kim created a project for the memorial complex, which was supposed to be located in the park named after 28 Panfilov Guardsmen. It was planned to build a triptych dedicated to the establishment of Soviet power in Kazakhstan and the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, as well as a special pedestal for the eternal flame. On May 8, 1975 the memorial complex was solemnly opened. The authors of the sculptures were V. V. Andryushchenko and A.E. Artimovich.

Behind them burns an eternal flame flanked by honor guards who make standing still an Olympic sport. Great for history buffs, militaria fans, and pigeons looking for a dramatic perch. Just don’t expect nuance, this is pure Soviet drama carved in stone.

A good mall in the middle of the city. You will be happy to see some branded showrooms. Ambience is good and every type of shopping is available. Parking has adequate space. There are so many places for kids to enjoy and food court is also a decent one.

Esentai Mall is one of the most luxurious malls in Almaty – a perfect place for premium shopping and leisure. Good mall with all high end luxury brands like saks fifth avenue, LV, Gucci etc. Very luxe looking place with good fine dining eateries. Only bad experience I had with the help desk staff who were downright rude and arrogant and also borderline racist. Their job is to help people.

Its the fancy mall in Almaty, all the brands are there. Its not that packed and the place is chill. Had a chance to visit an art exhibition which was very interesting.

We went there to pray the Eid Al Adha prayer, being one of the few mosques in Almaty with a section for women. I was taken aback by the spectacularly beautiful decor inside the mosque. Worth a visit.

It has been labeled as "the biggest mosque in Almaty", there is only a mosque building, not even a yard around. But underground parking lot and public toilets are beside it. Women have to enter through the side door which is a bit hidden.

Out of all the museums I have seen in Kazakhstan, this one was my favourite not just because I like WW2 history but because it was in English . Not only in English , but guided in English by a very nice and warm local kid. You can see he is passionate, but not oppressive of other ideas and questions . He was interested about where I was from and he seemed open to discuss various prospectives on the history he was telling . The museum itself is not the best in the world but it goes into the specifics which I like . The real jewel is the guide and the old man who works there aswell, both of whom were very welcoming. Not to mention its super cheap and situated in an area with plenty nice stuff to see

Kids club is great place in Forum on 5th floor for small kids and you can hire a nanny for couple of hours who can look after your your child for extra cost. There are several rooms where kids can play with dolls, cars, jumping on the trampoline and even go around on little cars. Very pleasant staff and as well as you can stay to eat great food. Highly recommend 👍

Only few stores with original products and overpriced ( example 270$ for a Nike T-shirt or 600$ for a Jordan Jacket ) - biggest prices that I ever saw in the world. In local stores ( local designers ) an basketball T-shirt ( made in China ) was 55-60$. Doesnt recomend to make shopping here. Nice atmosphere, cool building but not for shopping !

MEGA Alma-Ata is a good mall for both shopping and dining. It is a busy place with a wide variety of options for visitors.

I visited the mall today and was horrified to see a small black-tipped reef shark in a tiny aquarium, along with a couple of huge eels. The shark in particular was distressing to see, as it was swimming round and round the tank, which is clearly insufficient in size for such a creature. The shark had an injury to the pectoral fin that was continually bumping into the glass. The eels also appeared to be distressed. Despite the ‘no touching’ sign, people continued to tap the glass while I watched. These animals should be free in the ocean, not kept in inadequate stressful conditions for the viewing pleasure of shoppers. Very disappointing and I hope this will be reconsidered. If it makes a difference, I’m a veterinarian.

A huge modern mall with many international brands. It has a skating ring and multiple spots of cute attractions like the mini koi pond and mini sea aquarium. The supermarket galmart is also mega. There are many food outlets here that you can choose from. Great choices. Recommend to spend half a day here.

There is a parking under ground. The garderobe is also here. I suggest you come a little earlier. There is a nice and very big square with water fountains in front of the palace.

This museum should be closed and the items can be a small section of the state museum. At least have a movie with option of English to understand what is interesting here.

This mall is a great place to spend time. I have the feeling that it is because of the grocery store A-store. Almost half of the first floor is this store. Unfortunately the food court is full of fast food which is Burgers and pizza. The parking that is located on the right side is bigger and there you can always find a place.

Biggest plaza in this part of the city, superstore, cinema, fastfood, brand boutiques can be found here. Free parking for 2 hours and less, no problems with parking place - area is huge. The main superstore also named ADK, overall not so cheap as Magnum, but defenetly have better choice of cheeses and vine, same as fish and meat products.

Would have been my favorite supermarket if some products were a little cheaper. You can get most European/Western food and beverages here. Don't bother buying the cakes - they're far from good.

A small basic hostel nestled in a residential block close to amenities. The bus from the airport stops close to the hostel. When I arrived at the property at around 9pm, there was no staff in the reception for checking me in. A resident who can speak English helped me and contacted the staff. Disappointed with the room - had poor nights sleep: AC was old, made lots of noise and didn’t cool the room. The blinds were terrible and did nothing to stop the light coming through in the morning at 5am! The attic room had a partition not a wall, there was a gap at the top meaning all the noise from downstairs easily came into our room. Expensive compared to other hostels in area. Not enough wash facilities for number of guests. Friendly and helpful staff and good common areas.

I booked private room in this hostel. Overall stay was not good. The most annoying thing which I felt was that room is next to dinning area where guest makes noise and it disturbed me. I was not able to sleep because of that. My check in time was 2 pm but I reached early around 10 am. But forget about early check in. They gave me room around 3 pm. It was so annoying. They have mentioned air conditioning in all rooms but in my private room there was no AC. Last point, after cooking I had clean my all the used utensils but while checking out staff asked me to clean the utensils she thought I did not clean it. Location is good. There is near by grocery store and bus stands.

One can have their meals downstairs infront of the kitchen ( kettle , oven, stove , utensils , water all available in kitchen) . 2 Washrooms are available in all , 1 on each floor so it gets crowded a bit during peak tourist seasons. However otherwise during off seasons the hostel ambience is just so peaceful and satisfying. We saw the lawn turning from all snowy to green during March this year . It felt so homely and complete.

Seemed that the boys were still sleeping in my dorm so I had to wake them up. I DIDNT GET THE 2ND REFUNDED. The guy did text the owner however i had to approach him two times actively what the deal was. He didnt approach me, he was just sitting in the living room on his phone. Terms are to say the evening in advance, whats the difference with 7am? Owner is obviously not there to talk too. Also the vibe was weird. Wouldn't recommend.

Had 3 bathrooms but 1 was in a dorm so there was aways waiting times. If it had better bathroom families I would recommend it higher. Preferred their sister hostel as it had better facilities and generally was more comfortable.
