The Aberdeen Maritime Museum, situated in the historic Shiprow district, offers an immersive experience into the city's maritime heritage and its significant role in the North Sea oil and gas industry. Housed in the intriguing 16th-century Provost Ross's House, this museum showcases a diverse collection of models, photographs, and paintings that chronicle the evolution of the Dee estuary's port and depict the challenging lives of whale-hunters, herring fishermen, and North Sea traders.
Visited the Aberdeen Maritime Museum on a quiet Monday afternoon and had a truly enjoyable experience. The receptionist was incredibly warm and welcoming, setting a positive tone for the visit. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, blending the city’s rich maritime heritage with fascinating displays that appeal to all ages. It’s a gem tucked in the heart of Aberdeen and a perfect way to spend a few reflective hours. Entry is free which is amazing for what you get, but I do encourage visitors to donate 💰 if they can to support the continued care and presentation of this beautiful museum. You may have to wait a tiny little queue if it’s a busy day, staff are always ready to help on each floor with a smile. They have pamphlets for non-English speakers, so no excuse for you not to go. It is accessible for all abilities as long as there is an assigned carer to assist throughout your visit. This is one of the places you want to bring children and young adults to see what history and beauty this place holds and preserves. Highly recommend! ✨✨ Titi ❤️

I really enjoyed my visit to the museum. It was a great way to learn about not only maritime facts such as oil rigs and ships but also Aberdeen history. All the displays were done with great care and the exhibitions were very informative. The view to the port was also splendid and the gift shop selection was nice.
Kitti S — Google review
An excellent experience. An easy walk from the Railway Station. This museum is free, but you can donate by card or cash. Very friendly staff and an amazing space over five floors and three buildings. The museum features the maritime history of the area as well as the oil and gas industry. It also features exhibits on occasion. A reasonably priced gift shop featuring local souvenirs. I would visit here if you have an interest in maritime history, but is interesting for those who aren't.

Lovely museum, lovely architecture. The cherry on the cake was the free guided tour tough, offered by knowledgeable and utmost kind Robert who made it special by picking a particular parts and making his lecture around these. Learned a lot and in a very friendly atmosphere, many thanks!!
Radka B — Google review
A visit worth taking while in Aberdeen (or if residing here). Deployed in 4 floors, illustrates the history of Aberdeen shipbuilding and UK offshore drilling off Scotland coast. The abundance of wood all around creates a really cozy environment. Allow >1 hour to tour as it’s really interesting.
Manolis L — Google review
Free to enter and explore. A well maintained museum. Plenty of stuff to see and learn about. Don’t forget to take a copy of ‘things to do on your visit’. It’s a fun activity to do with kids/family.
Nida S — Google review
Can’t believe this amazing place is free! 😍 I love museums...they always take us back in time and make us feel part of history. The displays, ship models, and harbour views here were just beautiful. 🌊⚓️ The Aberdeen Maritime Museum, located on Shiprow overlooking the harbour, is one of the city’s most fascinating free attractions. It’s housed in a blend of historic and modern buildings, including Provost Ross’s House, which dates back to 1593. The museum beautifully showcases Aberdeen’s deep connection with the sea — from shipbuilding and fishing to the modern North Sea oil and gas industry. One of its main highlights is the impressive 9-metre model of the Murchison oil platform, along with intricate ship models, artefacts, and interactive displays spread across four floors. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views of the harbour from the upper galleries, making it a perfect mix of history, culture, and coastal charm. 🌊⚓️

St. Machar's Cathedral, located in Old Aberdeen, Scotland, is a historic 12th-century church with significant ties to the Scottish Reformation. Despite its name, it has not been the seat of a bishop since 1690. The cathedral features stained glass windows, a heraldic ceiling listing medieval bishops from 1131 to 1560 and a memorial for John Barbour. Built on the site of an ancient chapel established by St.
Interesting historic site with a stunning wooden ceiling Visited St. Machar’s Cathedral and really enjoyed the experience. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect—it’s not a huge cathedral by any means, more like a very large church—but it definitely has charm and historical significance. I learned that what technically makes it a cathedral is the presence of a bishop, and it’s debatable whether that’s still the case today. Still, it holds the title and it’s worth a visit. Inside, the wooden ceiling is a highlight—beautifully crafted with decorative plaques that are genuinely impressive. You can also go upstairs for a great view and to admire the stained glass windows up close. Outside, the graveyard is packed with tombstones dating back to the 1700s, which adds even more atmosphere to the visit. A peaceful, thought-provoking stop with lots of character and history.

Beautiful Cathedral. Maintained beautifully and very well lit. The windows are particularly impressive. The gentleman in charge was very nice and allowed us to enter with our dog. The chur yard is also quite impressive. A small donation of £5 is requested if if you wish to donate by card. Parking is easy but paying can be a pain as you need to download an app and there is virtually no signal. That said, it's still worth a visit.

Lovely Cathedral. The building and grounds were well looked after. There is a balcony with a good view. The staff were very friendly too,and I enjoyed a good chat with them. The ceiling was superb, and the touch screen explained all the various crests.

Very unusual wooden ceiling, with shields of many countries. Visits are free and they give you a free leaflet, explaining the cathedral’s features, including information on all the shields. There is a shop. The day I visited was a family day, with refreshments and medieval costumes for children.

Immerse yourself in the rich military history of Scotland at The Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen. This Regimental Museum showcases a vast collection that traces over 200 years of the esteemed regiment's service in the British Army. Through interactive maps, displays of uniforms, weaponry, medals, and personal mementos, visitors can delve into the compelling story of ordinary men from various walks of life who joined The Gordon Highlanders.
The Gordon Highlanders Museum is an absolutely extraordinary experience that left me deeply impressed from start to finish. Every exhibit is thoughtfully curated, vividly bringing to life the rich history and valiant spirit of the Gordon Highlanders regiment. I was particularly amazed by the outdoor trench replicas — they provide a powerful, immersive glimpse into the harsh realities faced by soldiers, making history feel incredibly tangible and real. Beyond the indoor displays, the beautifully maintained surrounding gardens create a peaceful and reflective atmosphere that perfectly complements the museum’s powerful storytelling. The blend of engaging exhibits and serene outdoor spaces makes this museum a must-visit for anyone interested in military history or Scottish heritage. Truly, it’s a place where history breathes and honors those who served with extraordinary dedication.

an absolutely amazing Museum on top 5-Star Attraction in Aberdeen, the Museum tells the extraordinary 200 year story of “the Finest Regiment in the World!” ...moving through the history of the Gordans Highlanders all major conflicts and peacekeeping ...definitely recommend visiting this when in the area ...staff were amazing and great little cafe as well
Warren B — Google review
Cannot recommend it highly enough. What an incredibly warm welcome, which continued, (I also quickly visited the cafe, where i had a tasty but generous slice of cake) I met some museum managers as I explored, we chatted about the events and history, was even offered a Christmas chocolate by staff as I left. Lots of history, but the visit made by the people. The museum used the last few years wisely, the presentation of the galleries is great, easy to read interpretation, with clear font, graphics and nicely laid out cabinets. It feels updated and modern, yet has lots on display to appeal to history lovers. Also great if you like swords and silverware.

Superb museum of military history. Stunning displays and a vast amount of knowledge from the guides. I thoroughly recommend a visit here. The collections they have are amazing.

I had an amazing visit to the Gordon Highlanders Museum. The exhibits are beautifully detailed, and the World War One-style trench is both immersive and moving. The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable—special thanks to the former Gordon Highlander who took the time to walk me through the displays and share fascinating stories. A truly memorable and educational experience that I highly recommend to anyone visiting Aberdeen!

A great place to visit even to visit the cafe. They have a lot of pride and memorabilia for the regiment. I would definitely want to visit again just to ensure it stays open

A wonderful museum with an impressive collection. The building itself is pretty and has all the modern amenities which allow comfortable experience for guests of every age/ability. There's a lot to see inside, but it's not overdone. All exhibition rooms are well-designed and very aesthetic. There are also some interactive elements. I have to say you don't need to be a military freak to enjoy this. A lot of stuff like the silverware collection or little bits and pieces of soldiers' equipment can be interesting to everyone. I however am a freak so I especially enjoyed the weapons collection, medals from many different campaigns and of course the famous WW1 trench which is located on the outside. Sadly it was raining when I visited so I didn't take pictures, but on the other hand it only added to the experience. Hats off to the folks who designed and built it, it's a work of art. There was a young guide with us, who was super-passionate about WW1 and had a great storytelling talent. For more sensitive audience and kids this may be a slightly heavy topic, so keep that in mind. All in all, one of Aberdeen's top attractions. A definite must-see.

The gallery features 22 galleries and exhibits, including paintings, designs, and contemporary artworks. It also includes the Cowdray Hall concert venue and the city's Remembrance Hall. Renowned for its Victorian architecture by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie, it is the largest public art gallery in northern Scotland.
Lovely place to visit and fit donation only Enjoyed the variety of art and the encouragement to do my own drawing. Photos of my favourite pieces which are mainly contemporary but a lot of classical pieces too. Gallery is light and bright with sun light through sun column in middle. Do visit the top floor to be able to go outside and see Aberdeen with height..Great coffee too

Spent a couple of hours exploring this gallery and was most impressed. While the collection is naturally focused on Aberdeen and Scottish art, it does have a diversity of art, including sculptures, paintings, modern, eclectic, and also works by the French Impressionists (Renoir, Monet). The galleries are well laid out, and the artwork is well presented in a family-friendly way. This is a definite gem in Aberdeen’s cultural and heritage portfolio. Well worth visiting when in Aberdeen. Highly recommended.

Beautiful gallery with so many incredible features. The building itself is gorgeous, along with all the fascinating artwork 🖼️ exhibitions and the roof terrace is an added bonus. The gallery is full of interesting exhibitions, some interactive - from Aberdeen history to suffragette movements. It is absolutely worth a visit, it’s free and I definitely recommend the stunning views from the roof terrace too. Fo not miss this place. Thanks to all the tinder staff for galleries like this ❤️

I make it a point to visit an art gallery in every city I go to. These days many galleries focus on modern art which is not really my thing so it was great to see Aberdeen Art Gallery still showcasing traditional styles that clearly remain valued by the public. There are some incredible pieces here and I even discovered a few new favourites. Special shout out to Joseph Farquharson and Ken Currie in my opinion two of the most amazing artists with paintings on display. The staff are very welcoming and do not pressure you into donations which is appreciated since the gallery like many others is free to explore. It is on the smaller side which is a bit of a downside but for its size it packs in a great variety of work. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Aberdeen.

Huge art gallery with interesting interactive display in the ground floor explaining the history. Good mix of styles and eras. Highlights: Fascinating room on McBey Interesting comparison of English/ French styles in impressionists. The Aberdeen/ Doric room Shocked to come across my young doppelganger, painted by Dorothy Johnstone. Nice shop Helpful staff. A jewel for the region and well beyond P.S. What happened to the bodies under Gallery 4?
Felicity G — Google review
Enjoyable, friendly and easily accessible visit. Just a shame about the disabled parking outside. The number of people without badges sitting, waiting in their cars is a real slight on the city. Hopefully the gallery is doing what they can to get this changed so their visitors can actually get close to the place.

The Tolbooth Museum in Aberdeen is a well-preserved 17th-century jail that has been transformed into a museum showcasing historical relics and information. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city and offers a glimpse into the harsh conditions faced by prisoners, including waxwork figures in original cells, iron manacles, a scolds bridle, and the original guillotine used for executions.
Spent Christmas with Mum here this 2019. Such a quiet and peaceful place. Although it all looks greyish, it’s still beautiful. I love the uniformity of granite buildings. Lovely Scotts as well. :)

Lovely cute museum and good for like half an hour of you're just looking but about a hour if you're stopping to read everything. They provide you with an information leaflet and would answer any of your questions. A good place to visit while in Aberdeen. Walking distance from the city center and also the maritime museum.

What a very interesting little museum. Great dark history of Aberdeen. The only draw back is the stairs. Very narrow and steep. Make use of the rope to aid you on them.

Worth a visit. It’s free and there’s lots of medieval history here to learn. The stairs are very steep and tight hence it’s not safe for everyone.

A good preservation of city's history. Presented a good representation of the conditions convicted murderers, debtors, alleged witches and others faced during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Provost Skene's House, dating back to 1545, is a historic attraction in Aberdeen that offers an immersive experience into the city's rich history. The interactive displays showcase the contributions of scientists, writers, sports champions, and media moguls to Aberdeen's growth. This 16th-century domicile in the heart of the Granite City boasts a mix of architectural styles and provides insight into the lives of Scottish provosts.
Skene's House in Aberdeen is a remarkable historic building dating back to the 16th century. Located in the city center, this traditional Scottish house is a splendid example of medieval architecture. Over time, Skene's House has been used for various purposes, including as a private residence and business location. Today, the building houses a museum and a restaurant, making it a popular spot for tourists who want to learn more about the local history and culture. Its vintage atmosphere and central location make it a unique attraction in Aberdeen.
Cezarina N — Google review
Great experience, what a wonderful way to celebrate the great citizens of Aberdeen and the locality. I found their stories, their artifacts and the building fascinating. I wasn't sure the Hall of Heroes at the start works at all, so skip through that and the rest is worthwhile. Probably an hour to go round but could spend more time engaging and reading everything.
Chris R — Google review
According to the staff inside, this used to be a 'dressed' house with furniture and fittings to suit the history of the place. Now it hosts a modern exhibition showcasing the achievements of famous people from Aberdeen over time. The information and supporting exhibits is interesting stuff, with interactive elements for the younger audience. There is a fantastic painted ceiling in one room. I think the size of the place could accommodate some old (which I think people would be expecting) and the new, as there is too much to take in in one visit. It is free to enter, which to an English visitor is a really pleasant surprise!

Free entry, two-for-one exhibit: historic home AND lots of information about the people of Aberdeen who have significantly impacted the world. Some exhibits are interactive. Stairs between floors. Each room contains a different exhibit. In the “painted gallery” use the provided magnifying mirrors to view the paintings better. There are seats to make this easier/ safer. Also provided: map of descriptions of the paintings. Some exhibits have activities suitable for children (& enjoyable for adults)

Absolutely beautiful. I would definitely recommend everyone visits for the "painted gallery" alone. The staff were absolutely lovely, the exhibits were really interesting, and I left feeling like I'd had a really fulfilling day! It's free to enter, and it kept my occupied for about 2/3 hours, so it would be a nice day out alone or with friends to learn more about Aberdeens history. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous to look at too! The spiral stairs are a bit scary, and it doesn't have disabled access, but there is a little bit where you can sit and look through all the exhibits on a screen, so although it's not ideal, considering it's an old building and they can't install a lift, I think they did a nice job of being inclusive.

The area is perfect for relaxation or exploration, catering to beach enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Whether you're seeking a tranquil retreat or an active day out by the sea, Aberdeen Beach promises an unforgettable experience for all visitors.
What i have to say about this beach. Everything you need to make your day at the beach is available here. Leisure or amusement park, cafes, restaurants, big parking and public toilets all around to make things easy for public. Lovely sandy beach hidden under the snow blanket. Very clean and tidy so far as i haven’t seen any rubbish on ground. It is clean and has quite a bit of bins for throwing rubbish away. The water seemed quite clean as well. There is also enough benches around. Definitely perfect place for a long walk at beach to meditate. Had very freezing but an amazing day here include enjoyed sunset.

I had the chance to visit Aberdeen Beach twice this year, and each experience was truly unique. When I first went in January, the ocean was wild and powerful — the waves were high, the foam thick, and the whole atmosphere felt dramatic and alive. It was a breathtaking sight, full of energy, with the cold wind and roaring sea creating a true winter coastal scene. I returned in April, and the contrast was amazing. It was low tide, the sea was calm, and the beach stretched out wide and peaceful. The wet sand gleamed beautifully under the soft spring light, creating a serene and inviting landscape. Aberdeen Beach has a special charm in every season — whether you enjoy the raw power of nature or the quiet beauty of a calm shoreline, it’s a place that leaves a strong impression. I’m really glad I got to experience both moods of the sea here.

Lovely long promenade with stunning sea views, clean sandy beach, and plenty of space for walking or cycling. Great for families, with nearby cafés, play areas, and ice cream shops. Beautiful spot to relax, watch the waves, or even catch sight of dolphins!

Life long Aberdonian and honestly very rarely ever come down to the beach. But at the weekend we walked from end to end and it was honestly beautiful. Was soo peaceful and everybody out walking and talking not glued to their phones. People enjoying ice creams, coffee or even a cheeky sauna. I may be slightly biased as I’m from here but it is a beautiful beach surrounded by beautiful people.

Discover the wonders of science at Aberdeen Science Centre, a hub of interactive exhibits, experiments, and live shows that will ignite your curiosity and engage visitors of all ages. Located on Beach Boulevard at 179 Constitution Street, this center offers hands-on workshops and dynamic displays covering topics such as energy, space, and life sciences. It's the perfect place to introduce children to the most fascinating aspects of science through engaging exhibitions that explore everything from electricity to the solar system.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Dragged the Kids, Stayed for the Fun I’ll be honest—I had to drag my kids to the Aberdeen Science Centre. They protested as if I’d suggested a full day of algebra lessons. But, like any determined parent armed with the promise (threat?) of educational fun, I persevered. And you know what? It was actually brilliant. We spent a solid four hours immersed in hands-on experiments, interactive exhibits, and enough flashing lights to make me wonder if I’d accidentally walked into an ‘80s disco. The kids went from “Why are we here?” to “Mum/Dad, look at this!” in record time. Science magic. Now, the café… well, let’s just say it was an experience. Understaffed? Absolutely. Top-tier cuisine? Not exactly. But as the old saying goes, “Hunger is the best sauce,” and after all that learning, we’d have eaten anything. The food was, shall we say, serviceable. It filled a hole. It made a turd. Job done. Would I return? Absolutely. Would I eat beforehand? Probably. But if you’re looking for a great way to entertain the kids and trick them into learning, this is the place.

A wonderful place where not only the youngest children, but also their older siblings will have fun. Educational experiments will teach children to understand the world around them. What an amazing place! You will definitely not get bored here. A big plus deserves the cafe there with tasty food and drink. So good panini I haven't tasted for a long time. Thank you.

Deployed over 2 floors, it’s interesting especially for school-age children. Not all devices work perfectly, yet its overall maintenance level is good. If you are with children, you could easily spend 2-3 hours here; If not, 45 min could be enough.

My kids really love to come here, we spent over 4 hours and they still wanted to stay longer. It's a great centre for kids big and small, mine are 10 and 13 and really enjoyed exploring and using all the interactive activities.

As a Secondary Science Teacher, I’ve been to many Science centres/museums across the country and was very impressed with this one. Having changed the way we teach/language we use about Energy, I’ve been unimpressed with a number of them recently when they’re still using the wrong language that could confuse pupils - but not here!!! Very impressed. When I first walked in, I wondered if there would be enough for us to do. But Oh yes! We got there at 11 and left at closing at 4:30. My kids (10 and 15 and also having been to lots of Science centres) spent lots of time on lots of the different areas (and I even got a bit addicted to one of the games they had set up - downloaded and now playing at home!) and had a wonderful time. I could see that if it was really busy you might not get to go on lots of the bits and so find it not as good. They got to take part in an Engineering Hands On Workshop and a VR Headset session. We liked the ‘scienced up’ cafe and the food was good. We ended up getting three sets of coffee while we were there.. Overall, very impressed. The kids and I both said - shame there’s not one like this closer to home, as we’d be there all the time!

As a member of Aberdeen Youth Movement and MSYP for Aberdeen Central with whom I volunteer, I often find myself in the halls of Marschial College in one meeting or another but I was most recently present when I along with my Sea Cadet Unit attended a memorial ceremony in remembrance of VE-DAY 80 years. It was a landmark moment in my and so many lives especially for those who’ve taken part. The buildings were lit up beautifully and the beacon itself made it that much more transcendent in its appearance. Thank you to all those who turned out for this event and I look forward to returning to this important Aberdeen landmark soon.

Of all buildings made with granite in the world, this is the second largest. The design is very impressive, I must say. This is a phenomenal structure, and it is punctuated with eye-catching and intricate details. It is also a very important building to the city of Aberdeen - housing the city council, and serving many other public purposes. Public transport to and from here is quite straightforward and it is a very picturesque location for photographers and tourists.

Nestled in the heart of Aberdeen, the Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting stands as a testament to the city's rich history, nearly as old as Aberdeen itself. Often referred to as Mither Kirkyard or Mother Churchard, this stunning church is an architectural gem that captivates visitors with its impressive design and historical significance.
On doors open day you can explore the archeological dig site, but normally you can visit the church and marvel at its beauty. They have a large folder inside with a catalogue of photos from the archeological dig. Inside the church is beyond beautiful with Marcellus stained glass windows, definitely somewhere you should visit if you’re in the city centre. The old kirkyard has so many beautiful, exquisitely decorated old graves and infoboards explaining who’s who, with a lot of historically important peoples graves within the grounds and old graves that are hundreds of years old. The kirkyard is a beautiful wee walk, somewhere that’s beautiful at all times of year.

Visited this gravy yard last week. The bench are full of people drinking alcohol, and seems to be a meeting place of people with problems. They shut the gates at just gone 5pm. Went specifically to Aberdeen to visit the church because it features in our family history. V disappointed to find it closed, even though it states online that it's open Wed n Thurs 10-1. From the outside it looks neglected, n the drinkers congregated in the graveyard didn't help the image either, so not even sure if it is even open anymore?

Wonderful stained glass window by Shona Mcinnes. Lovely lady guided us then told us about the amazing installation at Migvie old Kirk....which is another story. Still daily regular service and a venue to hire for wedding or music concerts.

The Magnificent college and chapel campus of Aberdeen University dates to 1498. The grounds are truly a peacful place to walk around. History surrounds you. If you are touring Aberdeen for some crazy reason, I suppose this is the necessary place to see. Historic foundation of the university and constructed just a few years after the uni was chartered (1495). Very interesting and unusual crown arch, rarely seen on buildings that large and certainly unique within Aberdeen. Inside is pretty and subdued thanks to the dark wood and general lack of light coming through the quad even on bright days. Open to visitors, no cost, only closed when in use. Also, there is a student-led morning prayer service each day at 8:30 (8:00 on Wednesdays), also open to all.

His Majesty's Theatre, an iconic Edwardian venue in Aberdeen, is a popular attraction known for hosting classic drama, musicals, opera, and dance performances. Renowned for its unique features and prestigious status in Scotland, the theatre has welcomed esteemed personalities like Sir Sean Connery and Sir Ian McKellan. Designed by architect Frank Matcham and refurbished in 2006 with a stunning glass-fronted box office, it can accommodate up to 1,400 people.
We went to watch the six musical. My daughter loved it! The theater is massive! Pick your seat wisely..we had the seats at the top at the back I didn't expect it to be so high..I got a bit anxious about it but it was fine. The seats are a bit dated and needing a bit of a refresh but all in all was a good theater and show.
Lorna M — Google review
The theatre was easy to get into to, button operated door. The only issue I encountered was the disabled toilet in the foyer corridor was very hard to get into. It was a narrow corridor and the door opened out into the corridor. I had to wheel past the door turn face on open pull the door and wheel backwards to pull door back against the wall. As there wasn't enough room to open door and stay facing the opening then wheel in while pulling the door from fully against the wall to closed. Then do the same to get out, while trying not to hit other patrons. Another wheelchair user had to drive about a meter forward so I could open the door fully to get out, they then had to reverse into the toilet as had to room to turn around. The toilet right beside the seats was fantastic, very spacious and room to maneuver the door. The staff were brilliant at helping me find my space and offering assistance with doors and where things were. My seat had an amazing view, was on a slightly raised platform so I could see above everyone's heads. If you're going to see the lion the witch and the wardrobe, you will love it. Would recommend this theatre for wheelchair users, very accesible. Jut use the toilet near the seats for easier use.

We had seats up in the balcony it’s a bit of a climb although there is a lift that takes you half way but if your mobility is not great I’d recommend seats lower down. With approximately 75,000 items, the museum boasts an extensive range of materials covering the entire Animal Kingdom, from protozoa to large whales. Visitors can explore taxidermy models, skeletons, and fluid-preserved specimens representing creatures from around the world. Although currently closed due to COVID-19 precautions, this museum promises an educational and engaging experience for animal enthusiasts.
An amazing educational place. I had no idea how many types of birds that exists. Extremely informative and exploratory. Loved it.

I visited recently. I was very impressed. The museum is relatively small, with two levels (there is a lift and stairs, so very accessible). The exhibits are creative, with interesting layouts. The information provided with the exhibits is informative without being dry. I think this museum is great for visitors of all ages: I saw both children and adults enjoying their visit. I would be interested to join any guided tour at the museum. I have also heard there are other events, such as art classes, which I would be interested in. As for parking, there is a carpark outside the department, but there is street parking nearby too. If you need further information, I found the staff were very helpful.

I took my grandchildren to see this. We all really enjoyed it, there were lots of taxidermy and skeletons. I feel that clearer signage, labels or description would have made this more interesting for us. I know it is a university but when open to the general public not everyone is as knowledgeable so I feel we walked past a lot of displays without the full benefit. This could be more of a learning opportunity for many people. Whether displays, an audio tour, or information boards, leaflets etc. My grandchildren were asking questions I did not know the answers to Google helps! However they would go back, it is good for a couple of hours filling in time.

You will enjoy it to the max, although it is only two levels and medium halls, but it is stuffed with a lot of exciting things and stuff I didn’t see before in any museum, me and my children enjoyed it soo much it took us 1 hour to have only a quick look on all things, we will be back again several times to read and know every detail, my kids can’t wait to go back again, worth to visit dont miss it 👍🏻👍🏻

Nestled in the heart of Castlegate, the Mercat Cross is a stunning medieval monument that dates back to 1686. This intricately designed structure, adorned with a striking white unicorn, symbolizes Aberdeen's historical right to host markets. Originally built by the city's merchants' guild, it features a central staircase from which proclamations about newly crowned monarchs were announced to the public. The cross has been lovingly restored over time and now showcases twelve portrait panels of Stewart monarchs along its parapet.
What a places to visit in Aberdeen, definitely it was one of the many awesome places i saw. This elaborate and highly decorated medieval symbol of Aberdeen's right to hold a market was built in 1686 by the city's guild of merchants. Another interesting nearby landmark is St. Andrew's Cathedral. And be sure to also take a stroll down Union Street, Aberdeen's busy main street. it's a bustling street with plenty of shops, cafés, and shopping arcades. Highly recommended to visit.

The Music Hall, located on Union Street in Aberdeen, is a 19th-century performing arts venue that underwent a multi-million-pound transformation and reopened in late 2018. Originally built as the city's Assembly Rooms, it now serves as a concert hall with a classical facade and an airy interior. The venue hosts a wide range of events including concerts spanning various genres such as rock, pop, classical music, jazz, and folk.
Great venue. We visited to catch Fish on his Road to the Isles tour and were really impressed with the layout and accessibility. Nice bar/restaurant with reasonable prices and the building has been dealt with sympatrically according to it's age and history. As a concert venue, the acoustics were brilliant. Excellent sound quality from the stage and even better, when audience participation was called for, it was clear. Made the whole night very memorable.
Jan C — Google review
I visited here for the Beluga Lagoon gig and what a fantastic venue. Beautiful looking from the outside it's an absolutely remarkable looking building. However as we queued to enter a few people decided they were not happy with the size of the queue and went to the other side and started a separate smaller queue. Surely a barrier to say queue from one side would be the best thing. Once inside we were really impressed with the acoustics, and the size of the hall. The toilets were well looked after. One issue though was the bar, definitely not enough staff on as queues were massive. A brilliant venue, and with some tweaks could definitely be a 5 star place.
Graeme L — Google review
One of the bigger theatres, nice and open, and the staff are top notch. Truckers: go up the side road and park with your back doors to the building around the rear. You'll need to drive up a small kerb but it's all doable.

Distillery
In the midst of Aberdeen's bustling cityscape, the City of Aberdeen Distillery stands out as a unique gem, offering a refreshing alternative to the traditional whiskey scene. Founded by Dan and Alan, this distillery has brought back the art of gin-making to Aberdeenshire after an 80-year hiatus. Nestled beneath a charming stone railway arch, it specializes in crafting small-batch gins infused with delightful flavors such as zesty lemon and Scottish bramble.
Had a great experience doing the gin making! Alan and Dan were welcoming and very knowledgable about the history of gin. They were also very helpful when it came to choosing botanicals for our own gins, advising what would work well together and what effect and taste they would have. Having never tried City of Aberdeen gin before, we had the opportunity to try many different flavours and came away with some bottles on top of our own. Overall we had a great experience, I think mostly due to the passion for their craft that Alan and Dan showed throughout. Would definitely recommend to all, even non-gin drinkers as my boyfriend was one of those when we turned up and had converted by the time we left!
Kirsty — Google review
We had the best time at City of Aberdeen distillery. It was incredibly informative, fun, and enjoyable. We decided to do the Gin Class where you make your own gin. This was something so different for us. Alan goes through all the different ingredients and processes. Dan provides you with tasters of several gins to help understand the flavours. You’re left to sniff your way through 100 ingredients, selecting your favourites, then work with Alan to select the best ingredients that will make a gin you’d want to drink. We can’t wait to taste our creations.
Leanne M — Google review
Brilliant experience at City of Aberdeen Distillery My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time at the City of Aberdeen Distillery Gin School - it was such a fun, hands-on, and genuinely memorable experience. Dan and Alan were brilliant hosts: friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. They created a relaxed and welcoming environment while guiding us through the gin-making process with just the right balance of fun and detail. Lyla really enjoyed choosing all of her botanicals and crafting a flavour profile that was totally her own, while I was fascinated by the technical side of distilling and loved getting hands-on with the equipment - especially when it came to bottling our own creations! Lads, we will be back, very soon. We left with two completely unique gins, some new knowledge, and big smiles on our faces. Couldn't recommend it more - it's an ideal day out whether you're a gin enthusiast or just looking for something a bit different to do in Aberdeen.
Jam M — Google review
Phenomenal experience! My girlfriend and I were visiting from the US and thought this would be an exciting way to spend our Saturday afternoon. We were blown away to say the least. We showed up 15 minutes early and Alan and Dan were right there to greet us and get to know us. They immediately brought us double Gin & Tonics and begin learning about our tastes for Gin and other spirits. Honestly the two nicest people we’ve met our entire week in Aberdeen. Anyways, you begin to learn all about Gin and the flavors that that can enhance the profile of the drink. Throughout the class you sample many different Gin’s to learn your preference and build your own recipe. Building your recipe is very exciting while Alan is walking you through the process and Dan is giving advice and probably handing you another drink. They are truly masters of their craft and made this a memorable experience for both of us. I would highly recommend viewing their selection of Gins afterwards as they made great souvenirs for our family and friends.
Travis — Google review
My friend and I had a fantastic tour of the distillery this morning. Alan is so enthusiastic about the place and his love for gins in general! Dan also added to the tour by keeping us entertained with his stories of brewing IPA’s (and keeping our palates dancing with various gins). A must-do if visiting Aberdeen - or even if you live there 😃

Recently I was looking for information on my house, which is an old listed building. I visited the Aberdeen City Library and Craig at information took the time to review my queries. Thereafter he took the time to research and exhaust all avenues in searching for information, which took some time. He then sent me out a a detailed email with all the relevant websites and repositories, explaining his findings to allow me to explore further. It really was informative and he went above and beyond what was expected. It is a pleasure to meet someone who takes pride in their work and who is so knowledgeable in his field. Thank you Craig!! I used this library a lot when I first arrived in Aberdeen 10 years ago. The facilities really helped me out as I was struggling to get accommodation back in the boom time. What a great resource and beautiful accessible building for the people of Aberdeen.

The staff were very nice however the upstairs of the first floor (nonfiction section) can only be accessed by a locked lift. Staff have to let you both up and down in the lift and when the staff members leave and inevitably forget about you despite saying they'd be back in ten minutes, it means you're stuck with absolutely no way back downstairs. I was left for over half an hour with no way of getting downstairs as even the lift call button requires a key. I had to painfully get my disabled self and my mobility aid down a flight of stairs. It's dehumanising and humiliating for disabled people to have to rely on able bodied people.

The central has old and modern books. The Internet speed is second to known. You can browse for free and borrow books if you have a library card. I notice that the heatings are always off, making the library very cold. I spent 8 hours inside and was impacted by the lack of heating. I understand the current energy situation; however, a warm library equals a warm welcome. A wonderful place.

A wee nun chapped the car window. I turned off my music and put the window down. "Hi, is everything ok?" I asked "I am sorry but, you can't park here" It was 8 o'clock on a Tuesday evening and my wife and daughter had nipped into the desert place round the corner. "Oh" I said "I assumed that it would be ok at this time of night, sorry" "Ah, you must not assume anything sir. Please move your car" How's that for irony? The disabled parking is at the back of the building with dedicated entrance to the ballroom area. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the cloak room is free but always try to tip the staff. The bar prices are also decent.

Attended Country by Candlelight last night at this fantastic venue. The building is art deco and just stunning. It has been sympathetically refurbished to keep its look, I loved they have kept the powder room. It was very well organised with no long waiting to get in and lovely friendly staff, well done @beachballroom The acoustics in there is just fab compared to some other venues. I can thoroughly recommend @countrybycandlelight the energy they had was fantastic, fantastic singers and musicians that had us all clapping and dancing the night away. I will definitely go see them again, brilliant night.

This is a very special place over one hundred years old,, i used to go there in the late 1960's after football matches at pittodrie whist visiting from glasgow. It has retained its lovely art deco style and is perfectly positioned on Aberdeen's beach promenade. There are photos inside of the Beatles when they played there in 1963 in their early days. There's now 3 venues inside the complex and conferences, special events are now catered for as well as music. A great , nostalgic throwback to the great sixties and Seventies.

Very beautiful library with a large collection of books. Chairs are comfortable and desks have individual lighting so you can adjust light to your preferences. Friendly and helpful staff members, there is a Cafe inside the library in case you are starving. There is an automated self checkout and book check in system. There are printers in case you have to print something. From the library you will have beautiful views of Aberdeen city and the north sea. The only thing I don't like about this library is that there is no separation between girls and guy's toilets.

The place is really great. Best architectural design and unique look. It's maybe like a complete version of itself like how a library should be. It's a must visit place for anyone. You can find all the relevant info on the website.
