Located in Hull, East Yorkshire, The Deep is a stunning aquarium that boasts a diverse collection of marine life. Its modern architecture at Sammy's Point where the Humber Estuary and River Hull meet makes it an impressive sight. Visitors can explore numerous aquariums and enjoy interactive exhibits, audio-visual presentations, and feeding displays by divers.
What an amazing experience!! It exceeded all my expectations; the history, the animals, and the knowledge of everything that existed before humans is truly remarkable. The layout is excellent, ensuring that it doesn't feel crowded or overwhelming in any one area. They have made great provisions for families and those with disabilities, including lifts at all the main routes. There are plenty of small seating areas where you can take a break and let the kids enjoy a snack or drink from your backpack before continuing your adventure through the depths. There are numerous opportunities to interact with the staff, who share fascinating stories about the animals or engage in fun games that help you learn more. You’ll find plenty of restrooms nearby, so you won’t have to trek far to find one. Your tickets are valid for free return visits within the year of purchase. The food at the cafe was fantastic!! The steak pie was out of this world! It truly was a wonderful day out.
Ainsleigh K — Google review
I loved it here! They had so much too offer other than fish ranging from different amphibians and a section dedicated to penguins. They had some many different kinds of marine animals like sharks, jelly fish, fish, and clams. I came here with my little sister and she loved being able to see penguins up so close. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come again.
Connor C — Google review
Brilliant day out for all. We've been going for 13 years since our daughter was 18 months and even now as a teenager she loves it. Animals and information amazing, the café is superb and good value plus the price of a ticket includes as many return trips as you can make in a year. Simply the best!
Simon R — Google review
This place is truly fantastic. Quite pricey for tickets initially but when you factor in that they can be used for a whole year, it means it's amazing value. A great mix of history, geography, geology and biology that would get the most disinterested person interested. So many different animals can be seen and it is obvious that they are all extremely well looked after. The gift shop is very well priced with lovely friendly staff. Would give this place a 100% approval rating!
John K — Google review
Great afternoon, no queues, booked a 1pm slot. Great exhibits, really enjoyed seeing the themed areas. Food & drink averagely priced & plenty of choice. Parked in overflow car park, £4.50 on top of ticket price.
Deborah S — Google review
We had a fantastic time at the deep. Our two kids loved it. It was so good we made use of the yearly pass tickets and went back the following morning. I would like to specially thank Mia who sat and talked our two kids for ages. Telling them all about the fish in the shallow reef tank. You really made the day memorable for them. Thank you so much.
Jake — Google review
Flawless aquarium, provides great info on the evolution of marine life. Also great views of the Humber. Best part is the annual pass so you can visit at anytime for a year. Great gift shop as well (I particularly enjoyed the tracker bracelets.) Will definitely be visiting again.
Jamie W — Google review
Decent aquarium attraction, great that you can visit for a year for free though unfortunately we aren’t local enough to take advantage. Disabled access is superb & it’s also a bonus that parking is free for blue badge holders.

Museums
Ferens Art Gallery in Hull, England, is a renowned cultural destination that recently underwent a major renovation. The gallery houses an extensive collection of European artworks, including pieces by Frans Hals and David Hockney. Families can enjoy the Explore Art gallery on the ground floor, which features a dedicated play space and interactive activities for children. Additionally, visitors can explore contemporary works at the nearby Humber Street Gallery.
Beautiful museum in sunny Hull. Free of charge and no wardrobe or lockers. Nice collection of paintings, especially British artists. Nice exhibition about mermaids.
Carl P — Google review
Wonderfully curated gallery. Only downside was the calm (I think it was called, the upper gallery space) exhibition which had great potential, thwarted by the narrated mindful audio guides insisting that you take a seat when there wasn’t a seat to be found. That and the jet turbine effect noise from the inflatable installation, below the gallery, altogether counteracting the calm.
Matt W — Google review
This was on our to-visit list for our brief visit to Hull. I do find local art galleries interesting, especially as feature local artists and paintings, and this didn't disappoint. Lots of different styles and eras with a large ongoing exhibition of contemporary works. Don't miss the 'calm gallery' on the first floor. Contains a shop and cafe. Free to visit but donations appreciated.
Elizabeth B — Google review
It's a fantastic city Art Gallery with many important works of Art. Especially the Dutch Masters Gallery. Also Marine and contemporary art collections. We worth a visit.
Mr W — Google review
A remarkable collection, beautifully curated. I loved Drapers, "Ulysses and the Sirens" and Fraser's "Blue Seascape". However, there are plenty of other fabulous works that it's easy to send a few hours there. The food in the cafe was excellent, I can't wait to return.
Carol I — Google review
Nice art gallery but brilliant exhibition on for children. Lovely items to play with, dress up and great interactive art installations.
Louise B — Google review
This is a fantastic place with some arresting art. I enjoyed my visit and it is free. Definitely go here when in Hull.
Leaburn — Google review
A wonderful art gallery near Hull city centre, displaying mainly classical works of art. Their is also a children's and modern section, a gift shop and cafe. Entry is free, but I do suggest that you make a donation into one of the gift boxes, so that it can continue to be an asset to the city.

Nature & Parks
East Park, located in Kingston Upon Hull, England, is the city's largest green space spanning over 50 hectares. Established in 1887, it offers a variety of family-friendly attractions such as animal enclosures, a boating lake with pedalos, and a fun waterchute. The park hosts major events like the Lord Mayor's Parade and Hull Motor Show. Visitors can explore the adventure playground, visit the Animal Education Centre or enjoy afternoon tea at the Pavilion cafe.
What a fantastic park for a day out. Kids can fish in the lake, there's a mini zoo with a fantastic aviary, playing fields, playground ,toilets, café even pedalos and a water chute. Its a pity that the paddling pools are always closed.
María G — Google review
We visit this park quite often. My kids love the variety of things to do here ☺️ Usually we take a ball and frisbee onto the big field or they'll bring their scooters to scoot round. The play park can get busy especially on nice days and school hols but when it's not too busy it's good for the kids to go on. We used to visit the animals when my kids were younger, they liked talking to the parrots. The splash park is a big hit with us , the kids love going in there! The only downside is there are no opening times anywhere for it. Online it says it's closed for the season but doesn't say when it reopens :( the cafe is good, has lots of vegan options although some are not always available. My hubby has got some great pics here of the wildlife, especially the squirrels 🐿️. His page is Ravenscape Photography 📸 found on Facebook and Instagram.
Amy R — Google review
This is a great and wonderful place with lots of recreational, historic and fun filled activities for people of all ages including children and adults alike. Very nice large public park in east Hull, off Holderness Road. The library in the cafe was open and always open with lots of educational and resourceful books there. Friendly staff with conducive environments. There were beautiful water fountains in front and back of the cafe with reasonable priced wonderful food and drinks in the cafes; available public toilets facilities were also there. A very nice place of relaxation. There were lots of free events and activities to enjoy especially for kids ranging from playgrounds, gymnastics, relaxing areas, land events like football fields, and other sports, etc., together with the wonderful animal rescue area(zoos) where you can see parrots, wallaby, llama, goats, peacocks, guinea pigs and various other animals. There were also lots of paid events and activities which were readily available; though, little bits on high side for the price (£3 per token per person per ride). You can get discount if you buy 8 tokens for £21 or 12 tokens for £30. All tickets purchases from the office there. You can use those tokens for train rides, bouncing castles, swans pedalo’s rides, colourful beautiful carousel rides, etc. There is also live horse riding racing for £3 each ride and an amazing boat splashes rides for £2 each ride. The fishing lakes were also located in the arena for fishing activities if it interest you. There were lots of free crafting activities and animals education going on at the animal education centre located in the park between 10:30am to 2pm Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays this summer. Great experience. There were lots of free parking spaces in and around the park with most prominent via Woodford sports centre carpark. The playground has lots of most modern and fantastic play equipment for children which spread across children of all ages, eg. climbing frames, swings, etc. There were always something to do in the playground and environs. In fact, my kids loved the park. The train will take you round the park where you see lots of lovely scenery in the park. You can also walk around yourself and explore the entire area. The bridge viewing point and cave pathway were also amazing 🤩. You can walk your dogs around the park. Some places, you can free your dogs; some other places, you must put them on leashes and lastly, some restricted areas for dogs like playgrounds. There were wheelchair entrances and wheelchair accessibility areas all around the park including wheelchair accessible roundabouts, large seated swings, and accessible changing and toilet facilities for wheelchair users. There were several art instillations and gardens which were eye catching such Star Gardens, The Maze & Village Gardens, mini golf, etc., with other amazing wildlife. The squirrels were very tamed and friendly. They can feed out of your palm if you have some monkey nuts with you. The lake and aviary area were beautiful with lots of amazing and wonderful wetland birds.

Really great venue for a outdoor concert. Park is neat and tidy, spacious and easy to get to. We left our car at the hotel as the bus drops to you right outside the park gates. It was a lovely atmosphere and we had a great time!

The Streetlife Museum in Hull is a captivating destination for transport enthusiasts. Situated in the Museum Quarter, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of transportation through six galleries showcasing bicycles, carriages, motorcars, railways, and street life in Northern England. Visitors can explore an array of displays including cycles, cars, horse-drawn carriages, trams, and a simulated 1940s street.
What an amazing place. So we'll designed and lots to see. Can't believe this place is free entry. Deffinatly worth a visit for young and old.
Richard L — Google review
Just like in my home city of Glasgow, museums in Hull are free. I'd so wanted to see their maritime museum, but it's closed for refurbishment, so I'll have to return in the spring. Anyway, there's more than enough to fill a couple of hours at the Streetlife museum. Lots of old transport to see, a nice recreated street scene from the 60's, plus a ride in a Royal Mail coach. Although I have a French (and Spanish) degree, I never knew that 'chauffeur' is the French word for stoker, as in the lackey who fed the fire in the steam-powered cars of the early 1800's. Every day is a learning day, even at 72!
Michael S — Google review
This is free to visit and part of the Hull Museum Quarter. There are several old shop interiors, which have been rescued from throughout the city and these have been recreated into a street scene complete with old trams along with exhibitions of other old transport types such as horse carriages and bicycles. Good for all ages.

Iv been taking my grandson to the museum to do the activity sessions in the holiday and he's been loving the crafting sessions that are on at present . The sessions are brilliant and the volunteers and staff have been wonderful and patient with him . He is very shy and nuero divergent so he has trouble interacting with people , they have adapted to his needs and he is always wanting to visit . Beautiful museum.. We love looking round all the displays. Very well presented with things to do to educate both young and old. Well done .

The Hull Maritime Museum, located in Kingston upon Hull, England, offers a captivating journey through the city's maritime legacy. It showcases an extensive collection of art and artifacts that span 800 years of seafaring history. The museum delves into the evolution of Hull from a bustling port to a vibrant city, with a particular focus on the impact of the Arctic whaling industry. Visitors can explore relics from expeditions and learn about the North Sea fishing trade that brought life to Hull.
We found it really interesting and our little boy loved looking at all the exhibits 😊

It's been a number of years since I last visited and enjoyed it just as much. Really good insite to the city's past Martine history. There is two floors of interesting exhibit.

It's still closed unfortunately. Hull is a nightmare to drive around cycle wands everywhere you need to turn left but the gap in the wands was 200m from the traffic lights with no warnings. I'm sure the museum will be great once reopened but it's been ages

A quaint but one-of-the-kind museum set in UK's cultural city. An ode to the city's whaling past, this museum is one of the unexpected gems that I've come across during my travels. This museum is located centrally in Hull and hard to miss. It has two floors packed with myriad objects- from gunny sacks used for packing flour, accurate models of maritime vessels, paintings, Whaling harpoons, a blubber pot and more interesting things. It is well curated and makes for an interesting hour or two to learn about this city's vibrant past. Don't miss it if you are visiting Hull.

Hull's Old Town is a charming area with historic streets, pubs, and museums like the Streetlife Museum of Transport. It sits between the River Hull and Princes Quay. Recent revitalization efforts have brought back life to the dockside Fruit Market and Trinity Market, now home to street-food vendors. The Fish Trail leads visitors past landmarks such as the Hull Maritime Museum, Hull Minster, Hands on History Museum, statues along the water's edge, and more.
A real jewel to wander around. You have the Seven Seas Fish Trail and a host of other interesting places, blue plaques etc. lots of places to pop into, lots of bars and cafes for a snack and a drink.

A fascinating destination to explore is a quaint town with a historic charm that feels like stepping back in time. The Hull old town area is particularly captivating, with its cobblestone streets and vintage architecture. Among its highlights are several pubs that date back to 1729 (picture attached), each exuding a unique character and offering a cozy atmosphere, making them delightful spots to relax and soak in the local culture. The entire region is remarkably picturesque. This visual appeal has not gone unnoticed by filmmakers, as it served as one of the filming locations for the popular movie "Enola Holmes."
Nashra A — Google review
This is a very popular area with tourists-little cobbled back lanes, access to the river and over to the Deep, the Museum Quarter… it has become a popular location for filming with the streets transformed to war time Britain.
Anne S — Google review
This is an absolutely great place. Really underrated. Loads of great museums (streetlife and Wilberforce recommended) and some interesting back streets with coffee shops and eateries. Can't believe we waited this long to visit such a cool place.

Hull's old town is a small area of the city bordering the river Hull. It's where the city grew up in the Middle Ages along High Street with warehouses and merchants homes. Because of the old buildings and cobbled Streets it is often used for TV and movie sets. There are a lot of old historic pubs in this part of the town. It is also known as the museum quarter, with the street life Museum willberforce house and the Hull and east riding Museum all next to each other and free to enter.

Hull's historic old town is a fascinating mix of architectural styles, quirky pubs, old narrow cobbled streets, the old fruit market, and a lovely 'boardwalk' trail alongside the River Hull, the Arctic Corsair (though at the time of writing the ship's been moved for restoration work and to a new home), The Deep aquarium, and skirting the old town and around to the marina.

Good atmosphere yet not overly busy. Excellent museums with no entry charge but you can leave a donation if you wish. Arcade and large indoor food market (closed Sunday). Plenty of good choices for a drink and / or a bite to eat.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Kingston upon Hull, Hull Minster stands as a testament to Gothic architecture and is recognized as England's largest parish church by floor area. Originally known as Holy Trinity Church, it was elevated to Minster status in 2017 due to its rich historical and cultural importance. Dating back to the early 14th century, this magnificent structure showcases exquisite features such as intricate stained glass windows, a remarkable organ—one of the largest in the country—and stunning vaulted ceilings.
I was in Hull completing the Mischief of Rats Sculpture Trail. Having walked into the city via the marina, I couldn't resist a look inside the beautiful Minster. The staff were so welcoming and answered all my questions. I also took the opportunity to have a cuppa and cake at the cafe. I got talking to some lovely ladies here, too. Fabulous facilities here, too. Very clean. This is definitely worth a visit, whether for a reflective moment, prayer, or just simply to admire the architecture and stained glass windows. It had such a lovely feel about it that on another occasion, I would really want to get to a service.

Today we visited the Hull Minster and paid £7:50 to climb the bell tower. What a great experience. The escorted tour takes about 2 hours, the guide was friendly and very knowledgeable, both about the building and the history of Hull. The stairs are steep but if you are able I recommend you give it a go. Learning about the Bells, the clock mechanisms and the views are amazing too.

Wilberforce House, located in Hull, is the birthplace of William Wilberforce, a key figure in the movement to abolish the slave trade. The museum offers a comprehensive exploration of Hull's historical and humanitarian legacy through its exhibits, artifacts, and documents. Visitors can delve into the history of slavery with displays focusing on West Africa, plantation life, and the abolition of slavery.
Incredible place where William Wilberforce lived. You can learn so much about this extraordinary figure in history who abolished slavery in England. Lots of information about him and his life, and the work he did to abolish slavery. A great historical site for people to come and see and learn too. There are many preserved documents, manuscripts, attires, and newspaper clips depicting William Wilberforces life and political career. There's lots of information on the transatlantic slave trade, and slavery throughout history too. Well worth a visit! Very informative and enriching.

This forms part of Hull's Museum Quarter and is free to visit. The house is the birthplace of William Wilberforce and was the family home. The ground floor deals with his life and campaign for the abolition of slavery. Moving upto the first floor, the exhibition covers the grime reality of the slave trade so some parts might be unsuitable for younger children, but otherwise very educational for junior aged children and onwards. There are further local themed exhibits at an adjoining house.

Wilberforce House is one of the many amazing places to visit if you want to learn about Hull’s history and in particular the importance of William Wilberforce. It’s a free museum situated in the Museum Quarter in the Old Town and just a short walk from the Minster, the Market and Whitefriargate. The building itself is beautiful with so much information to absorb! I really like the gardens , complete with mulberry trees. At the bottom of the garden it’s possible to look out onto the walkway and the River Hull although it’s no longer possible to go out that way. Right next door is the Streetlife Museum.
Anne S — Google review
Good museum. The upstairs area is more comprehensive with explanations of the history of the slave trade. Good place to go and free to enter.

This is a fascinating and important museum. It is housed where William Wilberforce was born. It looks at the history of slavery, the abolishon8st moment and the work that still needs to be done.
Karen B — Google review
A really interesting and thought-provoking museum. Very well presented, with obviously some shocking documents and relics of slavery, but the history of the anti- slavery movement was very inspiring and heart-warming. I went back for a second time because there was so much to take in. I didn't take any pics because it didn't seem appropriate.
Roger F — Google review
The house itself is nice enough without being anything outstanding. The information on Wilberforce & the slave trade though makes a visit here a must whilst in Hull.
Toxteth G — Google review
Very informative & some recordings led by the Black folks along with mentions of Black abolitionists. What felt weird for me was the ceremonial mask that was offered to anyone (predominantly kids) to be played with.It was what made it a 3-4 for me. I’ve added a pic of it here. Another thing is little information on Hull’s involvement in the trade of goods made by the enslaved. It was a business & there is definitely more information like the actual numbers of these products. The anti-slavery medallions/coins were very interesting but I was again left with more questions. I think this section could be easily extended. Certain items were romanticising slavery & I didn’t feel like there was enough criticism of that

The Hull & East Riding Museum, located in the cobbled High Street of the Old Town, is a journey through 235 million years of history. It features an Iron Age village, Roman bathhouse with mosaics, Viking treasures and wooden warriors. The museum houses one of England's finest collections of Roman mosaics, including a mosaic floor from a Roman Villa found at Brantingham.
I really like how the museum is set out in time periods from pre-historic to medieval. The finds in the local area were eye opening and insightful. There's a lot of reading, if you're onto that. A bit too much for me. But plenty to look at, including stuff for the kids. Excellent considering it's free to enter.

Lovely big informative museum! Mammoth replica is a great attraction, as is all of the interactive ‘touch this’ and ‘smell this’ throughout. Wonderfully interesting and unique. I think you’d struggle to entertain children in ALL parts of the museum, but there isn’t a lack of interaction to keep them occupied. Great day out alongside the street life one. Wish they had specialist magnets with the name or something. Gift shop was a bit lacklustre, but i loved the mammoth stuff.
Lucy B — Google review
This is a huge museum in the Old Town of Hull and part of the Museum Quarter. Usually when I am doing the museums this would be my third stops and I would be flagging; today I made a point of this being first. The exhibition is extensive and chock full of artefacts from the local area. Lighting is dim but there is a footpath trail around the site. There are steps and changes of level throughout but there are lifts available. At the front of the museum there is a small gift shop. Entrance is free but donations are invited. Lots of interactive stuff so great for kids. PS It’s free!
Anne S — Google review
From the outside, you don't realise the size of this museum and it is quite a warren of different rooms. This forms part of the Hull museum quarter, with each one being free to visit (but donations appreciated) This is also the Museum of Archaeology so the rooms take you from the dinosaurs to the middle ages but all from a local perspective. I do really enjoy visiting local history museums and I did come away with a greater knowledge and understanding. I was particularly impressed with the Roman mosaics. Good for all age groups and there are lifts for pushchair/disability scooter users.

We specifically searched out free musuems and came across the Musuem Quarter in Hull. Parking was nearby, and wasn't extortionate (though the current road works meant we had to go over a bridge to back on ourselves, but I digress). From the moment we walked in, the staff were super friendly and welcoming - happy to allow us big kids to do the trail. Straight away, you walk through to a huge wooly mammoth and the exhibition is a walk through the beginning of time. Really great for kids, really interactive and lots to see. Staff are really friendly and helpful all the way through and a great trail to keep kids entertained! Makes for a great day out and theres a beauitful courtyard, so pack a picnic and enjoy these great (FREE!) museums for a great full day out!

Iv been taking my grandson to the museum to do the activity sessions in the holiday and he's been loving the exhibition that are on at present . The craft sessions are brilliant and the volunteers and staff have been wonderful and patient with him . He is very shy and nuero divergent so he has trouble interacting with people , they have adapted to his needs and he is always wanting to visit . Beautiful museum. Very well presented with things to do to educate both young and old. Well done. We love sitting in the gardens and having our lunch or snacks . Games have also been in the gardens through the school holidays too. Well done to all the museums.

Students at the university have praised the sense of community and support they have found during their studies, particularly within the MA in Creative Writing program.

AVOID. Overpriced and poorly maintained on-campus accommodation that basically bleeds you of your loan, leaving you no choice but to pick up a part time job. No career coaching for future ambitions you might have for your degree and a lot of staff members are keen to high road you when you come to them about issues you might have. And other students seem to thing running a society makes you above everyone for some reason?

Visitors can also explore Hull's historic Old Town nearby, with its medieval layout and charming cobbled streets lined with some of the city's oldest pubs.
Great venue, seen many events over the years..typically comedy shows or musical performances like opera or classical renditions. Acoustics are pretty good in the place, and it's easy to get about ad find your seats or bars. They even do a 'scan a QR code' and they will bring drinks and snacks to your seat.

A night out to see 7 Drunken Nights. Quick and easy entry with very helpful staff to point you in the right direction for your seat. Famous old building , plenty of leg room once you are seated. A great show telling the story of how The Dubliners were first formed and some of the great songs they sang. Great singers and musicians, the atmosphere was great.

I had a fantastic experience at Hull City Hall! I've attended several events there, including performances by Jimmy Carr, Paul Smith, and a Christmas concert. Most recently, I enjoyed a brilliant Classic Rock Concert on Friday. The venue is easy to navigate, and most seats offer a good view of the stage.

Been lucky enough to visit the City Hall on numerous occasions mostly for live music events. Every time the venue has been great with no issues at all. Like how the staff let you leave the venue in between bands to let you visit some of the local pubs. Most recently visited to see Shed Seven who were brilliant.
Craig G — Google review
Brilliant venue, the building is absolutely beautiful, warm, great bars and the staff lovely. The only downside was the front steps were littered and wet, we had walked past earlier and there was a group who clearly had drunk too much sat on the steps. They had obviously been moved however the steps could have done with a clean. However when we left I have to say the town was really quiet and felt relatively safe

Went to see The Drifters tonight Saturday 13th September. having a brilliant night stand by me came on so myself and my mother in law stood up to dance. A man behind us decided this was his opportunity to tap us on the shoulder and tell us to sit down. Not ask Tell. We carried on dancing, he then proceeded to punch me in my back (I am currently 20 weeks pregnant) he again told us to sit down as he had paid for his ticket and could not see we told him to get up and join us and dance but no instead he hurled abuse at us calling us selfish. (My mum had bought me tickets to see the drifters with her for my birthday. unfortunately my mum could not make it as she has terminal cancer and is currently in hospital.) my mother in law rightly went and told a security guard who advised us we could dance if we wanted to. We then advised them of the assault on myself and the abuse, said man was kicked out but not before he caused a scene, denying any wrong doing even after people in front of us and behind us advised the hull city hall team that he had been abusive. All of the staff where absolutely brilliant making sure I was ok bringing coffee and water, we also got moved to the balconys so we could enjoy the rest of the show. Well done all staff and thank you for everything. I so wanted to go home but you all made the rest of my evening so special.
Emski — Google review
Bootleg Beatles excellent, good atmosphere, really enjoyed the show. Cirqui de Celine wasn't as good, not impressed with the sound, couldn't tell what the singer was singing. The cirqui part in the advertising was a reason for booking tickets, this was a big letdown, not really cirqui just a bit of "dancing". All in all a mixed weekend.

So much progress has been made since the last time I visited 6 months ago, the place feels like you’re stepping back in history, we visited on Sunday to watch the Lancaster bomber fly over, it’s the 1st time I’ve seen this and it was awesome to watch while enjoying food from the vendors that had been organised for the weekend. Keep up the fantastic work nick, nick and all of the volunteers that keep this place going.

Great small dinosaur emporium. Good supply of dinosaurs, nice interactive play sand, with drawing and activity area on top floor. Do not expect the natural history museum. My experience today was not so special. I couldn't find some microfilm and the member of staff found it for me. I then was searching for 2 books which I knew I had taken out of the centre before but again I couldn't find them. The staff member also couldn't find them and I was prepared to go home and come back another day with the relevant details and said so. The member of the staff didn't take this defeat and continued to seek out my books which he eventually found filed on the wrong shelf. Oh, and of course, the information stored in this building is so vital to the history of hull that it could not be replaced. Couple that with helpful and knowledgeable staff, well, what's not to like?

The hands on History Museum is a great place to visit there's quite a few interactive things for young children to do. The exhibits are arranged over two floors in this old former Grammar School. Some of the replicas of Tutankhamun's treasures that were exhibited on the second floor are currently on display in the ferrens art gallery. There used to be a little victorian wooden roller coaster that children used to love playing on unfortunately it was removed for health and safety reasons.

Interactive museum for kids with local history. The Old Grammar School of William Wilberforce and Andrew Marvell. Opens every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.
Anthony M — Google review
Great museum for kids to actually get involved, sitting at victorian desks in a victorian classroom rather than the usual rope barrier and 'do not touch' signs. Then it's almost a polar opposite in the Egyptian exhibit upstairs with a real mummy. A bit spooky for the little ones, but it's really well presented. The final bit showing the way we've developed locally over the last century is equally as interesting, and incidentally seems to be exactly the same as I remember it when I visited the old grammar school museum (as it was called then!) as a child. I honestly don't think there's anywhere else around here that offers that variety, it's a real shame its open so infrequently.

The Catholic Church Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church is an amazing place with beautiful stained glass and a huge organ. It's a great wedding venue if you want to be a Disney princess.
You wouldn’t have thought Hull would have anything like this, but it’s delightful. Priest and staff were very helpful and friendly - well worth donating.

Absolutely stunning a must visit, we visited on Heratage open week 2024 the staff were wonderful and welcoming and very knowledgeable, a truly beautiful church.

St Charles Roman Catholic Church is a grade l listed building built in 1829. It is the oldest post reformation Catholic Church in the city. The interior decoration dates from 1899. The organ was built about 1812 and had been in St. wilfreds Church york. The church has a stunningly beautiful interior.

Very lovely place with an amazing priest, but its always closed for personal prayer especially on days you feel so devastated
Esi D — Google review
Whilst walking around the city exploring various parts, we found ourselves walking past a set of stained glass doors. Being nosey, walked up the steps and were totally blown away. What a hidden gem of a church. Very peaceful and friendly. The ceilings and stained glass is amazing. There's some restoration going on but still beautiful. Lived her for 2 years and didn't know this church existed.

Beautiful church inside after seeing a plain exterior built to a similar design to the ex-brewery buildings around it. The beautiful interior is well worth seeing whether you go to a Mass or just as a visitor

Library
Hull Central Library is overall a great place, but there needs to be better monitoring of the quiet area. While most people are respectful, it can be distracting and frustrating when others ignore the need for silence or whispering and the staff do nothing about it. The library offers excellent additional facilities such as computers, a music and media library, a children's library, and assistance with civil issues like employment and registrations. The staff is lovely and today's visit was wonderful.
Visited the library this week to use the computed the staff at Hull Central where incredibly helpful
Kellie B — Google review
Nice place, cafe, good staff.
Paul M — Google review
The children library is good, has a variety of books and activities for the kids. The library as a whole has no WiFi, so no research work can be done on the PC. Also, they lock their washrooms which is extremely inconvenient. Staff are sometimes too lazy to assist especially nearing closing time.
Kay G — Google review
Awful. If you are lucky enough to find an area that is open, don't even bother to try and connect to the WiFi, it'll stay on for 5 minutes then go off. Also the opening hours are terrible. It should be a wonderful place to go, but it's awful and a waste of money. The best thing is the staff who are wonderful, it's a shame they have to work on such a place
Paul L — Google review
Good library to visit in the centre of Hull. Easily accessible with a ramp for wheelchair users and those of us who use a rollator. There's an on site cafe for snacks and drinks. The reference library is now situated on the 1st floor and is accessible by either stairs or the small lift. The disabled toilet is accessible by lift on the 2nd flooor.
Neville B — Google review
Waited more than an hour on their phoneline, only for it to hang!
Jon L — Google review
Offen go here to do work. The books are limited on certain subjects but the upstairs quiet work area is a gem most days and it's rare it's noisy. I often and easily go up their and work. The staff are very knowledge and I enjoy talking to them when they aren't busy.
Kndpomsprosie — Google review
Well after waiting for over 1 year I was via appointment able to browse the printed music section. Had it all to myself. considering the vast space I'm sure they don't need appts to browse its similar to supermarkets. You go, browse, select and go, no difference really. Just don't let people sit and read. People can respect others and keep distance. It's not hard.

Pub
Ye Olde White Harte is a historic 2-floor pub in Hull, built in 1550 and known for its oak paneling, inglenook fireplaces, and even a human skull on display. It's located near the pedestrianized Whitefriargate and the George Hotel with the smallest window in the world. The pub features a famous plotting parlour where Sir John Hotham allegedly planned to refuse King Charles entry to the city during the English Civil War.
Lovely old historical pub oldest one in hull. Beers cheap and staff are nice. Would recommend having a gander at the skull in the corner of the room.
Amber N — Google review
Glorious ancient atmospheric pub. Bar staff claim to have seen apparitions. Like the Golden Fleece in York, this houses a human skull. Love the place.
Shelly H — Google review
Love this pub. I always visit when I'm in Hull on business. Great old world charm. Usually great staff, you always get the odd one;modern world, modern values. I always have a pint of Old Peculiar. One of my favourites. Hard to find as most pubs have gone down the 'trendy' pale ale 'new' IPA route. The standard of the pint is usually spot on. Unfortunately,on a couple of occassions, it has had a very slight sour taste and smell to it. As on this occassion. Different staff members prepping? Different staff members cleaning the pipes? I don't know. But it's there, occassionally. An inconsistancy. A fly in the ointment. A lack of consistant, measurably applied standards. Great pub. Owners/ managers need to pay more attention to the details that matter.
Kevin M — Google review
This is one of Hull's oldest pubs. It is very atmospheric, with original wood work on the inside. With interesting decor. The bar staff are nice, friendly and polite. The bar and seating area is kept clean and tidy. It's a nice quiet bar to drink in. Drinks are reasonably priced with a good selection to choose from.
Sadie B — Google review
This is one of our favourite pubs to visit.. it's quaint charming and steeped in history... the staff are very friendly and there is always a good selection of real ales and beers. It's well worth a visit
Leila K — Google review
A hidden gem in Hull old town, tucked away down a tiny alley which opens into a lovely courtyard where the floral displays have won several awards. A Theakston pub serving 6 real ales plus real ciders. This historic pub has a room used for plotting in the civil war, survived a substantial fire and houses a mysterious skull. I don't think there is any food? Beers in excellent condition. Friendly and we'll worth a visit.

Historical landmark
The Wilberforce Monument is a grand 32-meter high column topped with a statue of William Wilberforce, an abolitionist celebrated for his efforts to emancipate slaves. The monument was erected in honor of him and the abolition of slavery in British colonies. Originally located at Prince's Dock, it now stands as a striking reminder of Wilberforce's legacy in Hull. Amidst debates about statues, this majestic monument serves as a reassuring symbol of someone on the right side of history.
I was in Hull for work and toured the compact city on foot. I noticed an imposing plinth topped with a figure. It reminded me of a notable statue in Rome, and I wondered who could have been afforded this honor - a King or Queen perhaps? To my amazement, the 100 ft plinth and statue were raised to Hull’s favored son, Wilberforce, a leader in efforts to abolish slavery in the 19th century.
Paul B — Google review
This is a very tall Monument to the famous abolitionist. There isn't much information about him at the Monument, but it is only a short walk to the free museum at Wilberforce House if you want to learn about him. It is right by University buildings so it may be busy during term times.
Karen B — Google review
The greatest monument ever, reviewed by its size.
Chun M — Google review
Epic-sized monument to anti-slave trade campaigner William Wilberforce. The foundation stone was laid on 1st August 1834, the same day as the abolition of slavery in British colonies (and the year after Wilberforce himself died). The monument originally stood for around 100 years in Prince's Dock before moving to its current location.

in fairness I had no idea there was a statue of William Wilberforce, this is striking. Statues are in the line of fire for a number of reasons, so reassuring to see a reminder of someone on the right side.

The Cenotaph in Hull, located in Paragon Square, is a significant landmark that holds remembrance services on Armistice Day. Although there was no official service on November 11th, the veterans and residents of Hull organized their own commemoration. The dramatic lighting at the site makes it a compelling spot for taking photos to honor the soldiers. This monument stands as a symbol of respect and remembrance for those who served their country.
Went to pay out respect on Armistice 11th November & was disappointed there was no service on! So the veterans & the good people of Hull put on our own service of remembrance.

Additionally, The Mill pub, located in the old buildings attached to the former flour mill owned by J.R. Rank, offers a large space with ample seating and serves delicious food and drinks. Visitors have praised the friendly staff, great atmosphere, and tasty food at this establishment.
My wife and I enjoyed a lovely lunch at this place today. We are frequent visitors and find it goes from strength to strength. The young man on the bar when we went in today, Ross, has got to know us so well he had our drinks on our table before we'd ordered, having remembered what we have. Like all their staff, he is very friendly and efficient. I ordered a fish sandwich with salad for my wife and sausages and mash for myself. Both were delicious. There were a number of other customers in, but it was quiet enough to make conversation easy. I ordered a sticky toffee pudding for dessert, which was excellent. All in all another great experience on this visit. We'll definitely be back!

Her service is quick, attentive, and always delivered with a personal touch—remembering regulars’ drinks without being asked and making newcomers feel instantly at home. Whether she’s expertly pulling a perfect pint, offering a spot-on recommendation, or sharing a laugh with customers, Sara brings a blend of professionalism and genuine warmth that turns an ordinary visit into something special. The Mill wouldn’t be the same without her—five stars, hands down

Pickering Park is a large recreation ground in Hull, which offers a variety of features for kids and adults to enjoy. There are play areas for toddlers and junior residents, as well as an activity tower with rope climbs and slides, rock climbing walls, monkey bars, a basket swing, rockers, and obstacle courses. The park also has a nice area for walkers and dog-walkers to enjoy the fresh air.
Pickering Park is a wonderful place to visit with family and dogs. Its lush greenery makes it a perfect spot to relax. The park features walking paths, ponds, bird-watching areas, playgrounds, and open spaces. It’s great for children, too, with so many birds to see. If you enjoy fishing, you’ll find that opportunity here as well.

Amazing so much to see and do! Loved the Avery, wooded walk, bandstand and anchor. I walked round the boating lake - good to see still had water in and the fountains were trying their best! Lots of side of the road parking, toilets always a plus!
Ilona R — Google review
Nice park area for strolling with the pooch . Meerkats and aviary are interesting, had to walk round the outside edge as dogs are not allowed with the fenced area. Still managed to see everything in the aviary. Plenty of areas outside the park to park the car. Little paths lead off in different directions. Letting you discover hidden gems like the small pond. Open grass areas allow freedom for the dogs. Beware though, there is an abundance of wild birds. Lots of young ones at the time we went and the adult birds can become very defensive. Large lake to walk around too. A nice way to spend an hour or so.

Great place to visit for families or in our case our 3yr old grandson with lots of energy to burn. Lots of activities & safe play area. Picnic area Wide open spaces. Large pond with ducks geese & swans. Overall a good place to visit for an hour or so to take away the lockdown blues.

Lovely park to visit for a few hours during the school holidays. Well maintained in comparison to others locally. A few animals to see, including meerkats, two areas for the kids to play (outdoor exercise equipment and kids play area). A large lake and lots of green space.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pickering Park is a lovely green space in Hull, perfect for a relaxing walk or a family day out. The grounds are well kept, with plenty of trees, open space, and a peaceful atmosphere. A great spot to enjoy nature, stretch your legs, and unwind. 🐿🌳

I took my 4 year old this morning to the toddler climb and he really enjoyed it 😊 our instructor Ellis (I think) was so kind speaking and really gentle with Isaac. He even did races up the wall to help my son climb higher to boost his confidence. Great soft play area too. Thanku Rock Up for making my son's first experience a great experience 😊

The place itself is fun, but it felt a bit overcrowded when I visited. It was quite hard to find a table, and many were left with empty coffee cups and snack wrappers, which made the space feel untidy. It would be great if the staff could clean up more frequently to keep the area more inviting. Otherwise, a good spot, but some improvements would make the experience much better!

What an absolutely brilliant place for a children's birthday party, the staff are so welcoming & very good at the job they do. It was my little Granddaughter's birthday & with all the apparatus & climbing frames & walls to climb they absolutely loved it. Safety is paramount with the staff so there always looking around or on hand to make sure harnesses are always worn while climbing. They have party rooms upstairs so that when there time is up the room is decked out with loads of different sandwiches & popcorn & jugs of juice there's a big long table full of food that all needs are catered for. People are welcome to bring there own banners & balloons to put up & just adds the the perfect party experience. I would certainly recommend this place if you wantvto see your children enjoy themselves enormously & without the stress of clearing up all the mess.

The New Adelphi Club is a historic live music venue that has been around for over 20 years. Despite its unassuming appearance, the club continues to attract both local and international acts, making it an integral part of Hull's music scene. The venue offers an intimate setting for enjoying live performances while also featuring a separate front room with pool and real ales.
A proper gig venue. Not been for a few years, but just as i remember it. Saw The Miki Berenyi Trio last week, favorite gigs include David Devant, and also the Blue Aeroplanes back in about 1992 touring their "Swagger" album.

A really good venue for up close and personal gigs. We saw The Bug Club there tonight (31/08/24) and it was brilliant! Great sound and lighting, good ale from the bar, and respectful punters who didn't talk during the performance, mostly. The stage could do with being a tad bit higher so you can see the band over the heads of those in front, and the toilets could do with upgrading, but otherwise a super venue. The Bug Club were amazing, hope you get them on again.

I go there quite a lot. It's got a legendary status for a reason. Yes it's small, but by god it's awesome. Each week, when I visit the reception( I'm talking about a specific person) to collect my weekly ticket, I have encountered rudeness from the staff member on duty. This behavior has not only been disheartening but has also created an uncomfortable atmosphere for me as a student. It is essential for students to feel welcomed and supported in their educational environment, and unfortunately, my experiences have been quite the opposite. The repeated negative interactions have affected my overall experience at Hull College. As a student, I believe that every individual deserves respect and kindness, especially in an academic setting where we are all striving to learn and grow. The lack of professionalism displayed by the reception staff has made me feel undervalued and disheartened. I kindly request that this matter be addressed promptly. It is crucial for the college to ensure that all staff members understand the importance of providing courteous and respectful service to students. Training or guidance may be necessary to improve interactions at the reception desk.
Iman F — Google review
My experience at Hull College has been extremely disappointing. From the start, the atmosphere was unwelcoming and unprofessional. On my course, a tutor actually told us that we “couldn’t get anywhere in life,” which was not only discouraging but completely unacceptable coming from someone meant to be supporting and motivating students. The staff in general were often rude rather than helpful. One incident that really stood out was when I asked at reception for help in speaking with a careers advisor. Instead of giving me support, a member of staff dismissed me with the comment, “he’s not your mum.” This was completely unnecessary, unprofessional, and left me feeling very uncomfortable. The college environment overall dragged me and my friend down instead of helping us grow. I never felt supported or encouraged, only looked down on. Because of this, I’ve chosen to continue my Level 2 course elsewhere at a much better college, where I already feel more respected and valued. The only staff member in this college who was really nice and respectful towards me and my friend was Andy he was always is helpful and made us feel welcome. I’m happy to say me and my friend are on a level 2 sports course at a different college which has made us feel welcome immediately. Hull College should be a place that uplifts and inspires students, but unfortunately my experience was the complete opposite.

Quickly realised I'd made a mistake enrolling, they're over subscribed & under staffed. Class tutors hit & miss. A chaotic induction process with plenty of communication problems. There are urgent safeguarding issues to be addressed which they are aware of. We endured a militant style lecture on the culture, which left me feeling anxious about the safety and security of the campus.

I wouldn't recommend this college to anyone as for how they handle exams, the timetables and teachers leaving. Most of my last year in college there have been teachers leaving, taught lessons weren't good enough, some rude staff members and taking it out on students that haven't completed the work because they don't teach us at all. We're made to teach ourselves with what resources? The lack of organisation in this college is awful, they changed the exam dates multiple times and won't sort out if you missed an exam, they say that 'you've failed the whole course' when it was out of my reach. I'm not sure about other courses but I would definitely not recommend doing criminology and law and psychology. The head of institute for criminology, law and psychology is appalling when I needed help.

The only helpful person was Andy from student services he's the only person that genuinly made me feel welcomed and kept supporting me I've been at this college for two years first year was fine second year we had a teacher favouriting one student we had her slagging half the students off to eachother never helped with any problems and made out like we was all going to fail I've never felt more bad about life till this one course it was meant to be a fresh start when all it did was drag my mental health down there are some okay teachers but half of them especially one receptionist had to ruin it all for me and my friend we are now happy to say we have been accepted into a better course in a college that has made us feel more welcomed than ever bye hull college

Hiking area
Victoria Dock, a picturesque location with abundant houses, offers pleasant surroundings for a leisurely walk along the River Bank. Constructed in the 1980s, this area was once a bustling working dock until its decline in the early 70s. After years of neglect and dereliction, it has transformed into a beautiful spot with stunning views from the water side.
Pleasant area to walk your dogs and people will often say "good evening" "good morning" to you. Nice area of Hull. Nice walk to the city centre also bringing you right to The Deep

Went for a trial of using my mobility scooter along the footpath at edge of River Humber . It was ok apart from one area before we got to The DEEP where the paths crossed over a dyke or small lake and you had to go over a bump and rough gravelly area. I wish there was a guide of safe places to go with mobility scooter in Hull. My husband used to live there and remembers time spent also at the old fish docks - dont go that way its definantly not safe route and also we went to Humber Park in the evening and although the path is ok! the car parks are full of young people up to no good and speeding around .

East Hull Pools, located in Kingston-upon-Hull, England, offers a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. While the pool can be chilly at times and the facilities are a bit outdated, visitors appreciate the spacious changing rooms and enjoy amenities like sauna, steam room, and plunge pool. Some guests have noted that the toilets and showers need updating and better maintenance due to a lingering smell.
Pool can somtimes be chilly but otherwise you get over that quickly. The reason I don't give it 5 * Because i have always known it as the smelly pool due to the toilets. And it still is. The toilets and showers need updating and being cleaner.
Katie E — Google review
As far as British pools go, this is one of the better ones. About 50 years behind German standard. Not even as modern and clean as pools in former British Colony Hong Kong. This place would benefit from new lockers, that have doors that lock. A deeper swimming pool would be nice, relegating non-swimmers and walkers to a shallow pool.
Nick D — Google review
A beautiful building on the outside and a lovely sized pool but it is very grubby and needs a lot of work.I imagine the council aren't too bothered about it seeing as it is closing in the future which is a shame as it would have looked so good restored to its former glory.
Amanda S — Google review
It's a great place with decent facilities that could do with further maintenance, but the complex is unfortunately under-funded, most likely due to announced closure. Friendly and helpful staff.

The bridge features seating areas and a raised section with a cafe/exhibition room. Visitors can witness the engineers testing its opening at specific times on Sunday mornings.
Scale Lane Swing Bridge is an apostrophe shaped Footbridge over the river Hull. It was opened in June 2013 at the cost of seven million pounds and is the only bridge in the world that you can get on and off while it is opening. There is seating along the bridge and a raised area with a cafe/ exhibition room. The engineers usually test it opening the Bridge at 10:30am and 11:30am on a Sunday morning. It was used as an art exhibition when hundreds of local residents stripped off naked painted themselves blue and stood on the bridge for hull's city of culture. Couples were putting padlocks with their names on to the rails along the bridge but they were all cut off by the council.

It depicts five stylized birds and an owl sitting in a tree, and it is also grade ll listed.

Western Cemetery is a pleasant place for a leisurely walk, featuring both cemeteries and woods with Quaker burial grounds. While some visitors have left beer cans behind, the overall experience is enjoyable, especially for families with kids or dog owners. The cemetery is well-maintained and offers an excellent environment to clear your mind or take a peaceful stroll. Staff members are friendly and helpful, making it a great spot to visit during the daytime.
Good place for a walk in the daytime good for taking the dog too lot's of old grave stones to read
Noodles H — Google review
This is one of those places where if you use your common sense and can a good cut through, somewhere nice to walk the dog but also interesting to see the really old graves. But it's not safe, especially for people walking in the dark on their own. It's just to dodgy.
Sam M — Google review
Nice walk through both cemeteries and the woods with the Quaker burial grounds. Negatives. Beer cans left from drinkers who show no respect and the lack neglect for the Lodge house on the grounds - surely the tenants have time to keep the gardens tidy. Overall nice walk with kids.
Thomas H — Google review
The cemetery is a pleasant enough place but it is poorly maintained and could do with a bit more care and maintenance. The plots were waterlogged and it was terribly bumpy to get to the graves we were visiting. It’s a shame.

The shop was known for offering great value and prices on workwear and safety wear items.
A fantastic little shop! Extremely curtious service, fantastic prices and a wide range of products. I tried this store as a last resort late last year, I now use it as my first port of call for all my work and safety wear. I would highly reccommend this store to everyone!
Dave J — Google review
It has a good selection of work wear. I went in to buy a hat to protect my head from the sun. They where all to small. The shop assistant watched me all the time and made me feel uncomfortable. This is the one thing that puts me off from this shop in the past and it hasn't changed. I used to visit this shop in the late sixties. It was a great shop for ex army stuff. All my school bags came from there. For work gear it is worth a visit.
