Cuenca Cathedral is a magnificent structure featuring stunning stained glass windows and intricate ceilings. Visitors can enjoy audio tours and regular concerts at this grand cathedral. Nearby, the iconic Hanging Houses are a must-see attraction, with three of them open to the public. For breathtaking views of these houses, visitors can cross the iron footbridge of Puente de San Pablo.
Great cathedral with beautiful gothic interior! The coloured glass on windows are very special, never seen anything with style like this. Going on the roof is also highly recommended. The museum is nice too.
Θοδωρής Γ — Google review
Wow wow wow, I have never been in a Cathedral that has given me so much joy. I love stained glass so this was an absolute revelation. the stained glass in this cathedral is nothing short of spectacular. the original plain glass windows were replaced by the most spectacular modernist stained glass that elevated this cathedral into something quite exceptional. They also had an exhibition go religious iconography that was simply breathtaking. this Cathedral is definitely a must visit if you are in the city
Andrew M — Google review
Amazing cathedral with many little side chapels all with a different history. You have to pay to get in but it's probably one of the most interesting cathedrals we've visited in Spain. Pay the extra 1.5 euros to climb the tower and get a balcony view into the cathedral and out into the square
Sarah G — Google review
The interior suprised me, the stained glass works of the cathedral were amazing and we could see many reflections inside! The ceilings are very cool pieces of artwork, and there are many details to see. Visited in October 2025, tickets were 5.50 euros for general public and 4.50 for carnet joven holders.
Bilge K — Google review
One of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen. The entry is 5 euros, which I think is totally worth it, and you can also pay 2 euros more to go up to the inside balcony, where you get an amazing view of the main square. For the experience and the amount of beautiful pictures you can take, it feels like a fair price. You can truly spend many hours here because each room has so much personality and makes you feel like you’re walking through a masterpiece. They also have an outside patio where you can see the famous hanging houses of Cuenca, the bridge, and even the statue of the Virgin Mary in the distance. The only downside is that when I tried to pay the 2 extra euros for the balcony, they didn’t accept card, so make sure to bring some cash with you. Also, the shops around the cathedral usually don’t accept card unless you spend at least 5 euros, which was a bit annoying. Other than that, it was an amazing experience, and honestly, if you’re in Madrid, the trip to Cuenca is completely worth it just for this cathedral.
Humberto D — Google review
Beyond spectacular. One of the most beautiful and special churches I have ever seen. Highly recommend, even with the small entrance fee. So worth it!
Anna S — Google review
The brightest spot in Cuenca for me. Nice vies from the top to the Plaza Mayor and from the backyard to the mountains.
Natalya P — Google review
Iconic historic cathedral located by the Plaza Mayor of Cuenca. Rich in architecture, sculpture, and other religious arts. It offers a unique presence in the historic core sitting adjacent to the River Huecar side with rich views from its cloister gardens. The visit has good digital guide resources and offers a series of combined tickets. With time a full ticket is recommendable and gives access during two days to the main cathedral, going up through the facade triforio, entry to the cathedral museum, and nearby St. Thomas church and tower, which are also notable.

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
San Pablo Bridge is a stunning iron and wood footbridge that spans the Huécar River, offering breathtaking views of Cuenca's iconic Hanging Houses. The bridge can be enjoyed from the convent of San Pablo, now transformed into a Parador hotel.
It is a beam bridge located over the Huécar River, connecting the San Pablo Monastery and the old town of Cuenca. After the original bridge, built between 1533 and 1589, collapsed, the current structure was constructed in 1902 and opened in 1903. The bridge spans two sections, with a total length of 100 meters and a maximum height of 60 meters. From the bridge, you can enjoy views of the Huécar River and the canyon, as well as a perspective of the Casas Colgadas perched on the cliffs.
Seokjin H — Google review
A must-see in Cuenca! Cool view of greenery, hills and the Casas Colgadas 👍🏼
Bilge K — Google review
Magnificent views even on a “so-so” day weatherwise
Tony B — Google review
Very impressive! A tad bouncy and you can certainly feel the bridge sway and jiggle when you walk over it which can be disconcerting and if you’re scared of heights then it’s a tad terrifying. But a cool experience. Definitely worth a trip to Cuenca.
GORDY O — Google review
Not for the faint of heart, vertigo sufferers or ones with fear of height. It looks harmless from the photos but the bridge's width is narrower and the height of the bridge is perched far higher than expected. Does not help that the bridge has very thin railings on both sides. That said it does have very breathtaking panoramic views of the town and countryside if you can keep your eyes open and stop your legs from shaking.
Julie P — Google review
Lovely bridge. Was fun jumping on it. Just kidding. The middle part shakes a bit but the views are incredible.
SummeryKnight74 — Google review
The bridge is a wonderful way to enter the city. The other way is through a spiraling road in the bottom near the underground parking lot. It’s hard to truly capture the magnitude of the city if you don’t cross the bridge.

Art Museums
The Spanish Abstract Art Museum, Juan March Foundation, is located in the medieval 'hanging houses' of Cuenca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The museum showcases a rigorous collection of Spanish abstract art from the 1950s and '60s, featuring works by renowned artists such as Tapies, Chillida, Saura, and Zobel. Visitors can explore three hanging houses including Casa de la Sirena and Casas del Rey.
Located in the Casas Colgadas, the wooden buildings hanging over the cliffs of the Huécar River, this museum offers stunning views. In 1961, Fernando Zóbel began searching for a suitable location for an abstract art museum, and in 1963, his friend and native of Cuenca, Gustavo Torner, suggested this site. The museum opened in 1966, initially showcasing Zóbel’s collection. The selection of works was focused on quality rather than quantity, with the exhibition layout designed to better express both European abstract art and Spain's unique artistic direction. After an expansion in 1978, the museum reopened that same year. Since Zóbel's donation in 1980, the museum has been managed by the Juan March Foundation, which has continued to expand the collection. Today, the museum houses over 1,500 pieces in its collection.
Seokjin H — Google review
This museum is situated in the Casas Colgadas in the city and is, in my opinion an essential visit if you are in Cuenca. it houses abstract and modern art and there are just so many wonderful pieces to see. the collection is extensive and varied. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the city
Andrew M — Google review
This place is amazing. We went in, not expecting much, and spent over an hour (and I've not previously been an abstract art fan)...and it's free! Highly recommended to add this to your Cuenca itinerary. Inside, they've renovated but have spaces where they've preserved the history (ie frescoes that had been covered by plaster). So neat to see the inside and all the amazing art from Spanish abstract artists.
Kristen K — Google review
Lovely experience. You get to see great Spanish abstract art, and get to know the inside and the architecture of a hanging house

Maybe my favorite museum I’ve been to in a long time. Much bigger than it looks from the outside, amazing curation, and the perfect place to experience the views of Cuenca from!!! 10/10
Marina C — Google review
best museum in cuenca. and free. the hanging houses have been turned into a gallery with glorious views of Cuenca competing with the art by Spanish luminaries including Zobel and Sempere
Ms M — Google review
Free museum in Cuenca, right in the center of Cuenca near the bridge. Love the history of the museum; love reading about the hanging house where the museum itself located. The mural inside the museum dated back to 15th century. It’s interesting seeing abstract art exhibits in the historical building; excellent combination!
Judy H — Google review
This fascinating modern art museum was founded in 1966 by artist Fernando Zöbel to house his extensive collection. In 1980 he donated it to the March Foundation which has looked after it ever since and made many new acquisitions. It was the first ever museum of its kind in Spain and is housed in the 4 remaining 'Casas Colgadas' (literally the Hung Houses). There were originally eleven.

Parador de Cuenca is a formal hotel located in a 16th-century former monastery, nestled in the stunning Hoz del Huecar with its steep walls and lush vegetation on the outskirts of the city. The hotel offers traditional Manchego cuisine prepared by Chef Miguel Martinez at the Restaurante Parador de Cuenca.
It was an amazing stay at Parador de Cuenca. The room was great, the place is peaceful and quiet. Very enjoyable breakfast with amazing selection, and I recommend when booking to pick the option with breakfast included. One evening after lots of walking we didn’t feel like going out for dinner and instead we stayed at the hotel and went to the bar that is beautiful and had cheese and wine and it was perfect. One great advantage of the Parador is that it is located next to the Puente de San Pablo that crosses the river Huecar and at the other end is the old town and cathedral. Super convenient! The bus lines 1 and 2 stop by the plaza Mayor in front of the cathedral so it is easy from the hotel to walk over and catch one of the buses.

Beautiful building, great room, superior service with special thanks to Mr. Alvarez for his superb customer friendliness at check-in. One minor comment about the area around the swimming pool where better maintenance is required.
Fransiscus G — Google review
This is a premium hotel in a stunning location. Rooms are classic style, clean and spacious but a little dated (which is the style). The location is unbeatable right by the old town and castle, over a short bridge. Walks being already halfway up the hill, walks are accessible for most. The catering in the hotel is excellent, as is consistent with the whole area. Service in the restaurants is excellent and attentive. I believe this hotel offers great value and service. Recommended.
Simon J — Google review
Great hotel, fine restaurant. They will make off-menu items for you, if possible. The service everywhere if friendly and efficient. Be prepared for a bit of a steep walk to the old town after the footbridge.
Michael Q — Google review
Great location, superb beds. Unhelpful front desk staff Sunday afternoon check in. Repeatedly told taxis would not access Barrios del castillo due to festival being on. This was not the case, should I have taken this adviced and not trusted my instinct to investigate further our overnight stay in cuenca would have been ruined. Laundry returned still wet. Overall really wasn't what we were expecting. Bar staff very efficient. First impressions are everything and the 2 gentlemen at front desk on Sunday afternoon were neither helpful or polite. I would not recommend staying here.

Beautiful interior patio interior an older convento. Good spot to stop for a drink even if you're not staying.
Rachel W — Google review
The hotel is in a beautiful building with amazing views, large rooms, good breakfast with variety of local specialties and restaurant with good and inexpensive though small choice of food. Restaurant staff is very nice and polite. I gave 3 stars to service, because of terrible reception staff (inpolite, not ready to accommodate any requests and overall badly trained for such a classic hotel priced as most 5 stars hotels).

Casas Colgadas de Cuenca, also known as the Hanging Houses, are dramatic centuries-old houses built into a rock face with timber balconies hanging above a gorge. These iconic wooden balconies date back to the 15th century and are perched over the cliffs, offering breathtaking views of the valley of the river Huecar. The site also features Parador de Cuenca, located in the former Convent of San Pablo at the center of Hoz del Huecar.
Visited in August 2024 Beautiful houses built on the cliffs behind the Cathedral along the Jucar River. The other side of the river is the Antiguo Convento de San Pablo. Very unique and worth taking the time to see if you are even close to the area.

The Hanging Houses of Cuenca are truly a unique experience, something you won’t find in many places in the world. Just seeing how they hang over the cliffs is incredible. One of the best parts is that you can also look at them from the patio of the cathedral, so by visiting the cathedral you get two amazing sights in one. I truly recommend going and enjoy them

A must-see in Cuenca! Together with the bridge, very nice views. We came in October and the trees, the shades of green and yellow were amazing! ✨
Bilge K — Google review
Cuenca is one of the best cities we visited during the off-season, and we definitely recommend going there, as it has the best atmosphere we experienced among Spain’s ancient cities for tourists. We absolutely loved the hanging houses and the entire old town with its varying levels and the impressive fortifications that once made it almost impregnable. It’s incredibly beautiful, and if you climb higher, you get a stunning view of the entire city, both old and new, as well as the monasteries. The impressions were simply magical. We were lucky with the weather: the first day was rainy, which added a special atmosphere to the old town, making everything come alive, and then the next two days were sunny and warm, very welcoming. We also visited the Dinosaur Museum, which our son still fondly remembers. It was a truly wonderful experience!

Situated in Plaza Mangana, this 28-meter-high tower offers stunning 360-degree views of Cuenca from all sides. Visitors can explore the square's archaeological finds and learn about the city's history through informative signs.

Historically, it served as a watchtower and has been mentioned in records since the 16th century. Over the centuries, it underwent several modifications, with a major transformation in 1926 in the Neo-Mudéjar style. Its current form was finalized in 1968. It is a heritage site that reflects a blend of historical elements and modern restoration efforts.

The Antonio Pérez Foundation Museum is a must-visit in Cuenca, Spain. Housed in a 16th-century convent, this museum showcases a contemporary art collection curated by the renowned editor and artist Antonio Pérez. The museum's setting adds to its allure, as it occupies a historic hall that is itself a gem of Cuenca.
The foundation was established in 1998 based on Antonio Pérez's personal collection. Located in the former Carmelite Convent, it showcases a wide range of contemporary art works. The viewing route is carefully planned. Since its establishment, it has become an important institution contributing to the cultural and artistic development of Cuenca.

22 rooms of challenging creative modern art and installations in an impressive historic building in the old town creating an interesting contrast. The museum is free and well worth a visit. On the weekday morning we went, we had it to ourselves although on a weekend it's probably a very different story.

Stunning museum. The building is a maze of rooms that have incredible views over the valley and other areas of Cuenca. Winding staircases lead up and down the space to small alcoves with fascinating modern art installations. We only had a little over half an hour to enjoy it due to arriving later but it was a highlight of our visit to Cuenca. I enjoyed this museum more than the Spanish Abstract Art Muesum (but which I would still recommend).
Stephen K — Google review
I think this is the best museum of the city, much better and bigger than the museum of abstract art in the hanging houses. I also loved the building. You need at least an hour to see everything.

(Translated by Google) This museum hasn't been updated for a long time. It could do with a museographic overhaul. However, the exhibits are significant and help piece together Cuenca's history from the Paleolithic to the modern era. Even so, the Roman period is over-represented compared to the Medieval and Modern period. I highly recommend a visit. (Original) Museo que lleva sin actualizarse mucho tiempo. No le vendría mal una revisión museográfica. Sin embargo, las piezas expuestas son significativas y ayudan a componer la historia de Cuenca desde el paleolítico hasta época moderna. (Translated by Google) It can certainly be described as a "temple of art." A magical place where you can enjoy a beautiful display of the work of this great artist, fundamental to the development of new visual languages of the second half of the 20th century, both in Spain and internationally. The exhibition features highly varied productions, from what we might call his apprenticeship period to the most recent. Many works were made specifically for the beautiful chapel, as always at Torner, exquisitely considering the relationship between the work and its surroundings, the dialogue with the space, with the other objects surrounding it, and of course, with the architecture. The beautiful chapel plays a starring role in the exhibition. The staff provided exquisite (and very knowledgeable) service.

Ermita de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias is a small but beautiful hermitage located in Cuenca. It's situated on a hill and offers stunning views of the city, especially when illuminated at night. The climb to this religious site takes you past other interesting churches like San Miguel, San Nicolas, and San Pedro. You can also explore the Rondas paths for breathtaking views of the gorge and natural landscapes.
A Godsend treasure to humanity. A small church located on the side of the cliffs in Cuenca, Spain. A beautiful place to meditate and render homage to God. A must.

. A hidden gem down by the river. A little out of the way, but it is well worth exploring the streets to find this little gem of a chapel down by the river. And once you've found it, you are at the start of one of the riverside walks, so you've killed two birds with one stone! To get there, start in the main square - the Plaza Mayor. From the end with the arches, walk along a little street parallel to but at a lower level than the square. Continue along here, ignoring all side streets. Suddenly, as streets are apt to do in Cuenca, it turns into steps going down. This is called the Bajada de las Angustias - the Downward path of Anguish. Having done it in both directions, I can tell you that it's the Upward path that has all the anguish! Soon you come on the left to a church and then straight ahead, across a little open space, you see the little chapel. It has a sign outside saying Ermita de las Angustias, 17th century. Mid morning, mid week, in summer, it was open and we were able to go inside to admire the altar, see the votive candles, and examine the architecture. And after a few minutes there, we left, turned left along the riverbank and started our walk. .

Great value for the price! The room was clean and comfortable. It's not far from bars and restaurants although it's not in the exact center of town. The real highlight of our trip was meeting Raquel at reception. She was so sweet and helpful. She really gave us a lot of useful information as well as a beautiful welcome to the hotel.

Spacious room, staff friendly, not too far to walk into town, free parking available nearby without the need to pay for hotel parking Disliked · Not sure how this hotel can be categorised as a 4 star hotel. Breakfast is only average and we've had significantly better in lower graded and cheaper hotels. No bar or restaurant as such. The restaurant seemed to be a help yourself to pre cooked meals and use a microwave, similarly the "bar" was help yourself from a fridge and pay at reception. MAJOR ISSUE, we requested a room for someone with limited mobility and a walk in shower, whilst the request was granted the shower was not usable and lethally slippy. Despite reporting this problem to reception it was not resolved. The fix was an extra bathmat thrown into the bottom of the shower tray, VERY DISAPPOINTING and dangerous!! Would we recommend or return, certainly not!!

A big hotel located outside of the city centre. The rooms are clean and with air conditioning. That point is very positive point when you visit during summer time, as more central hotels have poor air conditioning. On the other side, do not speck walking everywhere. However, there is a bus stop 5 minutes away from the hotel with frequent bus services to Plaza Mayor. Breakfast is ok for the price. Staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive.
Javier M — Google review
I had a really good stay at this hotel. The lady on reception who checked me in, and explained about keys, breakfast and so on, was friendly and very helpful. Her English was very good, which was helpful to me. I can speak some Spanish, but it was good to know what where my Spanish ran out, her English could easily fill the gaps. My room was spacious and clean. Nothing fancy, but everything that I needed. The shower was good (important when travelling by motorcycle). The bed was very comfortable and the room fairly quiet. This was helped by the hotel not being right in the middle of Cuenca. In terms of location, I found the hotel to be fine. It's about a half-hour walk to the hanging houses for which Cuenca is famous, and the cultural area where the cathedral and castle are. But I don't mind that, I like to explore and soak up the local atmosphere. Breakfast was very nice. The usual selection of cereals, fruit, meats, cooked eggs, bacon and so on. But it was all presented well and the dining room was a pleasant area. The staff in the dining room were polite and attentive, and enhanced the experience. The same can be said for other staff around the hotel. Check-out was easy and could be completed online, saving time when you leave. So, all was good.
Richard B — Google review
Very comfortable stay for an overnight at Cuenca. Although the room is small, it is very clean, with modern bathroom fittings, plushy towels and a firm mattress. Private parking is available underground for a fee, however free parking is easily available along the roadside in front of the hotel. The location is far (with an uphill walk) to the old town and tourist spots, however if one is just looking for a comfy night stay along the mainstreet this is a perfect location.

For the price, you can't ask for better. Large room with a large bathroom, good heat and A/C, parking outside (free) and indoors (paying), many details like a microwave oven for customers, free access to plates and cutlery... Very clean, and good bathroom products (shampoo, body wash, towels). Front desk staff were extremely kind and effective. The decoration is minimalist, practical, nothing special but nice enough to create a welcoming, warm environment. This hotel is an excellent option.

Castillo de Cuenca is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and those who appreciate ancient ruins. The castle's ancient tower and stunning views make it a captivating sight, perfect for photography. It's advisable to park at Calle Larga and explore the area on foot or using public transportation due to limited parking options. Staying near the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedral at places like Hospederia del Seminario offers convenience, despite the hilly terrain.
Stumbled upon Castillo de Cuenca on a whim, and it’s a gem! The ancient tower and crumbling walls ooze history, with killer views over the Huécar gorge. Fun fact: it’s free to explore, no ticket needed! For the best photos, hit the mirador at sunset when the old town glows. Park at Calle Larga to avoid the hassle, and wear comfy shoes for the cobbled climb. A must for anyone chasing Cuenca’s medieval vibes

Built in the 18th century in Baroque style, the building is characterized by its entrance, which consists of three archways. These arches serve as a passageway connecting Plaza Mayor to other parts of the city.

. An interesting building with archways right across the road. This is at the other end of the Plaza Mayor from the Cathedral, and is the administrative centre of the town, aka Ayuntamiento or Town Hall. Plonked down right across the road, it forms a funnel, or rather a bottleneck, for the traffic flow. So much so that there's a traffic light right in the middle of the Plaza, to ensure a one-way flow only through its arches. Nice to sit at one of the nearby bars and watch the cars and bigger vehicles buzzing in and out! .

The city hall in Cuenca is an intriguing structure that harmonizes effortlessly with the surrounding buildings. Its unique feature lies in its function as a gateway for cars entering or exiting the main square. This means that vehicles must pass through one of its arches, despite the narrowness of the street. The main square houses a magnificent cathedral, adding to its allure. Cuenca City Hall boasts a diverse selection of local tapas and is an ideal spot for enjoying a refreshing midday beer.

Formerly a Dominican convent, this place has been used as the Parador de Cuenca hotel since 1993. While some religious decorations remain in the convent's church, the interior has been transformed as it was converted into a hotel. Juan del Pozo, the founder of this convent and a member of the Chapter of Cuenca Cathedral, is buried here. Located on the outskirts of the city, it offers a peaceful setting to enjoy views of the Huécar River and the surrounding canyon with Casas Colgadas.

The Muralla y Arco de Bezudo is a historical landmark in Cuenca, Spain. Although only a small portion of the wall remains, it still holds great curiosity as it can be passed under with a car. The area surrounding the wall offers ample parking space and stunning views of Cuenca. Dating from the 11th century, it stands next to the remains of the almost extinct castle that once stood in this area. Next to the arch, you can also see the remains of walls that are still well preserved thanks to some restoration work. Just in front of the gate, you can see a bridge and a fairly deep moat, typical of these access areas, which made them safer from attack. Junto al arco también se pueden divisar restos de murallas que aún se conservan de buena manera gracias a ciertas restauraciones que ha ido sufriendo. The wall and the Arch of Bezudo (popularly known as the Arch of Ayodzú) in Cuenca, Spain, are part of the city's ancient medieval defensive system. The wall was built during the Muslim period, between the 9th and 10th centuries, and later reinforced after the Christian conquest in 1177 by Alfonso VIII, who turned it into a strategic stronghold against Al-Andalus. Of the several access gates to the walled city, the Arch of Bezudo is one of the few that remains. This arch served as the main entry point from the northern area and was guarded to control access to the old town.
