The Alamo, situated in downtown San Antonio, is a significant historical complex and a must-visit for over 2.5 million annual tourists. This iconic site played a pivotal role in Texan history, witnessing events from Spanish colonization to the Texas Revolution. The fortress holds great significance as it was where a small group of Texans valiantly defended against General Santa Anna's forces for thirteen days. Today, it stands as a symbol of courage and sacrifice for liberty.
Had a great visit. The folks here are really passionate about the Alamo, and it shows in everything they do. If you enjoy historical sites you can really appreciate the way everything is presented, displayed and maintained. There is so much to see, read and interact with, they truly did a spectacular job. It is worth booking in advance for the church and the museum. Also plan a day or half day to look at everything, stroll through the gardens and have lunch or dinner nearby. Plenty of restaurants and additional attractions.

An amazing historic site in the middle of San Antonio. Seems like they are restoring more buildings of the site that wee present at various times. Very good audio visual content available even with the free ticket. The surrounding plaza with various shops, restaurants, activities, and a mall is quite nice.
David M — Google review
As others warned me before my visit - it's smaller than you expect. I feel like I need to do the same PSA because that lowering of expectation allowed me to enjoy the whole experience more lol. The queue for the only remaining structure - the church is crazy long, I stepped out and just explored the rest of the area instead. I liked the Phil Collins voiceover of the sequence of events over the diorama which helped me visualize and imagine how crazy the whole thing was.
Sventek — Google review
I visited the Alamo in San Antonio and really enjoyed learning about the history behind this important landmark. The museum is fascinating, and I especially liked seeing the old guns and historic artifacts that help tell the story. The original building and the church area where people once hid felt very peaceful and almost holy, like stepping back in time. The grounds are beautiful and well cared for, and the displays make it easy to understand what happened here. Definitely worth the visit!

Alright, Texas travelers, I recently made a return trip to the Alamo, and I have to tell y'all, if you haven't been in the last few years, you are missing out! The Alamo Plan is seriously underway, and during my recent visit, it felt like such a new space to explore. The effort to restore dignity and reverence to the site is profound. I was particularly struck by the new features that help you truly understand the scale of the 1836 battlefield—seeing the Palisade Exhibit and the Mission Gate and Lunette helped me picture the historic footprint like never before. Plus, the incredible Alamo Exhibit at the Ralston Family Collections Center is now open! It’s the first new construction since the 1950s and houses all the artifacts (including the Phil Collins Collection) under one roof. Walking through the Plaza, with the section of Alamo Street now closed to cars, creates such a quiet, respectful atmosphere that lets the history speak for itself. If you visited the Alamo years ago, I strongly encourage you to come and re-explore this new space! It’s a transformative, emotional, and educational experience that honors the heart of Texas history in a way that feels fresh and vital. From Texas with ❤️ -april

Remember The Alamo! The Alamo is central to understanding the story and identity of San Antonio and Texas. We experienced the "Victory or Death” audio tour which covers the site's 300-year history, from its origin as a Spanish mission to the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. The audio tour guides us through the Alamo Church, across the grounds, and includes other stops. The tour is available in multiple languages. The Alamo features both original cannons and historically accurate replicas that were used in the battle of 1836. A fully operational, fireable model of the 18-pounder cannon is among the most remarkable. We also witnessed the musket firing which is a 15-minute demonstration given by the Alamo Living History staff that includes a live firing from a flintlock firearm, the same kind of weapon used during the 1836 Battle. The gift shop has unique souvenir collections. This historic site is well-preserved and has sufficient information to understand the Texas revolution. We spent an entire day to explore this amazing piece of history.
Debashri M — Google review
Awesome!!!!! This historic site offers a glimpse into Texas history, with well-preserved masonry and informative plaques. The entrance is free of charge but you can pay for a self guided tour or a guided tour. Also they have a variety of souvenirs in the gift shop. Once you visit the Alamo you can take a short walk to the River Walk. Tip: visit during the Day of the Dead Celebration and experience a city full of color, music, food, drinks and a lot of happy visitors enjoying the free activities during the day or night.
Ash V — Google review
The Alamo is a wonderful place to visit, but it lacks having handicap doors. The doors are very heavy and with my husband in a wheelchair, we could not get into several places without a struggle, this includes the restroom. The older generation visits the Alamo very frequently and it would be extremely helpful to have staff on hand to assist with doors.

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is a captivating destination that spans 948 acres and showcases four remarkable colonial missions from the 1700s. This UNESCO World Heritage Site invites visitors to explore its rich tapestry of history, culture, and architecture through guided tours and scenic trails. The park features Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada—each still functioning as active Catholic parishes offering regular services.
This series of 4 missions is not to be missed. While they all share similarities, each one has unique aspects that make a visit to each worthwhile. These missions portray the history of the mission period of the 1700s. While gaining perspective on this important period of US and Texas history, you'll also see and hear some of the stories of the indigenous people and their descendants. It's a terrific mix of agriculture, trade, family life, community, military, and religion. In terms of the churches, Mission Concepcion (oldest unrestored stone church in the US - and in remarkable shape!) and Mission San Jose (Queen of the Missions - largest and most restored) are both special. In addition, the San Antonio Missions National Park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Took military graduate son there for celebratory outing. Beautiful historical park with well marked points of interest displays. Clean and well kept historical structures to walk among. Very educational. Paved Nature paths good for both the nimble and wheelchairs or walkers. Tickets to visit were not necessary.
TD G — Google review
This National Historic Park consists of four different missions, each with their own unique story. They are a little spread out so you can easily hit them all by driving. These sites are really interesting and well preserved. What's even cooler is that all of the missions are active faith communities. Truly a spot you should see in San Antonio aside from the Alamo.
Nick D — Google review
What an amazing day visiting the missions. Highly recommend starting at Mission San Jose. The movie and museum in the visitors center provide a great introduction—great to know the history and background. Take time to respectfully visit the inside of the churches as well.
Bonnie K — Google review
A beautiful time capsule of history. A bargain, 5 sites at $0, of course you can donate to the Churches. But who can beat that? Sure the Alamo is free too, but it's crowded and just one site.
Laura C — Google review
Stopped at Mission San Juan and talked with the Park Ranger, William, for a long time. He was very knowledgeable of the missions' history and the struggles of the local tribes. Then, we headed over to Mission San Jose. Couldn't go inside sanctuary due to private event. Passport stamps are at the Vistor Center with a small museum. Didn't have much time as we arrived close to closing. Great visit of a National Historic site.

Wonderful historic UNESCO heritage site. There's a church onsite that still has Mass. Definitely a must visit while in San Antonio
Gio R — Google review
Incredible place. Definitely worth a visit and the ranger led tour was very informative. Got a good understanding of the purpose of the missions although the tour guide gave a fairly sanitised view of it (but as there were youngsters present it was entirely appropriate). The film filled in some further details. Lots better than the Alamo!!!! All free!

The San Antonio River Walk is a picturesque network of pathways, bridges, and lush greenery that winds through the city. It offers a chance to enjoy natural scenery and city views while providing access to top attractions, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment options. The pathway runs along the San Antonio River and includes The Museum Reach section with art installations and pedestrian access to cultural sites. This iconic tourist attraction features peaceful stretches as well as lively areas with dining, shopping, and live music.
The San Antonio River Walk is absolutely magical! Strolling along the river feels like stepping into a whole new world—beautifully lit walkways, charming bridges, and the peaceful sound of the water flowing beside you. We loved how clean and well-maintained everything was, and the landscaping with flowers and greenery made the whole experience even more scenic. There’s something for everyone here: fantastic restaurants with outdoor patios right on the water, plenty of shops and local artists, and so many great spots for photos—especially at sunset when the lights start to glow along the river. We took one of the boat tours, which gave us a fun and relaxing way to learn about the history of the area. It’s lively but still feels safe and welcoming, whether you’re out during the day or enjoying the nightlife in the evening. The River Walk is a must-see destination if you’re visiting San Antonio, and we’re already looking forward to coming back.
Tim P — Google review
Must-do on a visit to San Antonio, particularly in or around Downtown. We came and stayed near the river on part of a short San Antonio-Austin trip and had a blast. The River Walk feels what we can only compare to as Vegas and Disney but cleaner. It's touristy but fun and beautiful. We visited during the week in early Fall, which was a great time. Impressed with how clean the walk is - lots of young people, families and local business people out and about. The boat tour was a lot of fun as well. We happened to be here during air force boot camp graduation, and it was so nice to see a lot of families out and about and celebrating.
Sammi — Google review
The river walk is absolutely romantic, beautiful and a must see if you're near the area. I couldn't believe I was still in Texas because I felt like I was transported to Spain or Italy. I highly recommend dining in one of the restaurants next to the river, it's so good for the soul.
Sventek — Google review
A really unique place to visit. A city within a city! Below the bustling streets of San Antonio lies the River Walk, surrounded by hotels, restaurants, and bars. Wander around with drink in hand and visit numerous establishments offering great food and drink. Also gives the opportunity to hop on a boat for a river cruise.
David W — Google review
I highly recommend to visit during the Day of the Dead celebrations during the weekend. A lot of free activities that can be enjoyed with kids, family or friends. Also dressed up as Catrina and have an awesome time taking pictures with the public 😊 is a total experience that you will never forget 🤩

San Antonio River Walk Review – A Magical Family Destination specially at night. The San Antonio River Walk is a truly enchanting spot that blends natural beauty, vibrant culture, and family-friendly fun. Strolling along the winding river paths feels like stepping into a storybook—especially during the holidays, when twinkling lights and festive decor transform the area into a magical wonderland. Christmas time is particularly breathtaking, though it does draw large crowds. One of the highlights is the scenic boat ride, offering a relaxing way to take in the architecture, bridges, and lively atmosphere. Lining the river are countless restaurants, from casual bites to upscale dining, making it easy to find something delicious for every taste. Horse-drawn carriage rides add a romantic or whimsical touch, perfect for couples or kids who love a bit of old-world charm. That said, weekends and holidays can get quite crowded. Navigating with a stroller is tricky, especially near staircases and narrow walkways. While the roads beside the River Walk are wide and designed to handle foot traffic, the sheer volume of visitors during peak times can make movement slow and a bit overwhelming. Despite these challenges, the River Walk remains a must-visit destination. Whether you're exploring with family, enjoying a date night, or simply soaking in the ambiance, it offers a unique blend of relaxation and excitement. Just plan ahead if you're bringing little ones or visiting during busy seasons—and prepare to be charmed.
Quazi S — Google review
I came here on a solo mission to see what the Riverwalk was about. This was a 15 minute Uber from Westover Hills and once I arrived the place was packed. There was a day of the dead celebration going on. People were dressed up in costumes and watching the water parade which I've never seen before. I was immediately immersed in the culture of the town, music and style of San Antonio's riverwalk. The art is so beautiful and the costumes are fun. The riverwalk was too tight for my liking on a busy night. For a nicely paced day, I would suggest going on a non-holiday or during the day. There's tons of different styles of restaurants and shops to choose from in an around the riverwalk. I came back another day with my elder family members during the day and it was less crowded. We took the boat ride which was about 30m in total. That was a nice touch to get a lay of the land without having to do all the walking during the heat. Bring your good walking shoes and have the elders take sitting breaks. I can see this being a hot spot for 21 year old's up to late 50's if your up to all the moving around and going out for dining experiences.

It is such a beautiful area, me and my wife enjoy it so much. Very outgoing and family friendly. We walk so much and we don't even realize it, we're having so much fun.

The Tower of the Americas is a 750-ft. landmark in San Antonio, built for the 1968 world's fair and inspired by Seattle's Space Needle. It offers an observation deck with breathtaking views of the city and the Hill Country, as well as close-up perspectives of historic neighborhoods like King William and La Villita. The tower also features a revolving eatery, a stationary bar, and a 4D adventure ride.
If you make reservations in advance, you won’t have to wait. We loved our dinner here! The service was amazing despite it being busy. The restaurant itself is beautiful and we went for sunset so the views were great. Our food was lovely as well! We got the Calamari, arugula salad, quail, seafood pasta, and the brownie sundae!
Enid C — Google review
Went on a Sunday morning. Not all the amenities were open but it was quiet and we almost had the upper deck to ourselves. Staff were really friendly and nice. The views were amazing. You can see all of the City, The Astrodome and the Álamo. Outside was pretty windy but it still felt pretty safe. We also seen they have a really cool bar area on the way down. I’d like to go back for a drink. We bought the photos they took of us before going up. $35 for that which seemed ok as the guy did a good job. Good experience!
Sean Q — Google review
Lots to see and do when you visit here…. The view was incredible and the different attractions inside (3D theatre, The Chart House revolving restaurant, Observation deck…) were amazing! Outside was the beautiful various waterfalls and “the wings” were a great photo op…. When in San Antonio you need to visit!

Grey place to eat. Costly but totally worth it. It was not spinning the night we went but still enjoyed the time there. Will definitely go back. Probably around Christmas time. Oh, get your Groupon pass for this. Well worth it. No hassle whatsoever.
Ernest W — Google review
Great experience! I had seafood, risotto with a glass carajillo, delicious! The restaurant is at the top of the tower with amazing night views. Perfect spot for couples or a fun but quiet night out. There’s also a museum inside, you need a ticket for that but the restaurant and bar are free to access. Highly recommend!
Anas S — Google review
My family and I really enjoyed being here and looking at the city of San Antonio from high above. We bought tickets online and checked into the ticket booth on our visit. We went up on the elevator to the top. The elevator has windows that allows you to look out as it climbs. The observation deck has an indoor and outdoor section. It has great views of the city, but the Alamo is hard to see. There's a great view of the Alamodome. The outside section can get really windy, so hold on to your hats. The inside section has a lot of information about the history of San Antonio. They also have a small snack and gift shop at the top. Back on the ground floor, they have some arcades, a larger gift shop, and a cool 4D Theater. The only thing I didn't like about the 4D seats was the thing that pokes you in the back. Several other theatergoers weren't too crazy about that either. But, the overall experience was fun and a great value.
Francisco L — Google review
Food is pretty good. Obviously the view is amazing. We were in a group and it did take a very long time even to get water or drinks. The lobster bisque and the creme brulee are delicious! I would go back just for those two items.
Jessica S — Google review
Nice views up the top. I would probably wait till dusk so you get both views with and without the sun. The ground level around the tower is also quite beautiful with large flowing water down several large pools of water, something quite peaceful and beautiful about the way they've landscaped it there.

Cathedral

San Fernando Cathedral, a historic church dating back to 1738, holds significant cultural and historical importance in San Antonio. The cathedral's impressive architecture reflects the city's diverse heritage, influenced by Spanish colonists, indigenous communities, and European immigrants. Visiting this landmark provides an opportunity to deeply connect with San Antonio's rich history and make your trip more meaningful.
This lovely Cathedral is located a short easy from the Alamo in San Antonio. Some of the heteros were entombed here after being buried under an altar for a number years. There is a great gift shop on the grounds, loads of historical markers and an outside area in the front with seats where events are held. I highly recommend this site.
M S — Google review
San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio is absolutely breathtaking. Its gorgeous Gothic style architecture makes it one of the most stunning and historic landmarks in the city. The intricate details, stained glass windows, and majestic altar create a deeply reverent and awe-inspiring atmosphere. Whether you’re attending Mass, praying quietly, or simply visiting, the beauty and peace of this sacred place leave a lasting impression. A must-see for anyone visiting San Antonio—spiritually uplifting and architecturally magnificent.

This is a very beautiful cathedral that is also historically famous. I heard that there's a beautiful projector show in front of the cathedral every evening at 9 PM, but I haven't been able to see it yet. On weekends, there are about four Masses; the 8 AM Mass is in Spanish and the 10 AM Mass is in English. Since the interior is actually quite small, I recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early. For parking, you can use the parking garage directly behind the cathedral. It's free on Sundays from 7 AM to 7 PM.
Jungwook C — Google review
I went here for a 24 minute video art projection at 9 p.m. It was wonderful. Beautiful storytelling captured on the facade of the San Fernando Cathedral. I had read that you need to get there early to find a seat but I arrived only 10 minutes early and there was still plenty of seats left. The show started promptly at 9 p.m. I highly recommend this free showing of colorful depictions of San Antonio's developments, history, and battles. (Note: there is a donation box station to the right of the grounds in front of the church).
Linda J — Google review
Located in downtown San Antonio! We heard about the evening show that is played against the backdrop of the cathedral front after dark while on the river boat ride. The story of San Antonio's history. There are plenty of seats in front or bring your own. You have to find parking in one of the public parking lots for a fee. There is a snack shop on the grounds that sells some street food, snacks, sodas, and wine and really good beer! The public bathroom closes just before the first show starts. There is a 9pm and 9:30pm show. I recommend this event. This was a Friday night but I think it occurs other nights of the week as well. I really enjoyed this with my out of town guests. It is free to the public. The snack bar isn't but wasn't crazy expensive either and very friendly. Say hello to True!
Lynn L — Google review
This is a must see location. Every evening at 9 PM there is a light show and you can seat across the street and enjoy the presentation. Take a bottle of wine.
Eliud G — Google review
Beautiful historic church in the heart of San Antonio. Peaceful during the day and absolutely magical at night with the free light show — a must-see experience!

Great place to visit to see a movie over the front of Cathedral, is a film about Texas or Tejas History. It has daily shows except for monday, at 8:30 pm. But it is recommendable 15-20 min prior because its very crowded.

Step back in time at the Spanish Governor's Palace, a stucco residence built in 1749 for the captain of the Presidio San Antonio de Bexar. This National Historic Landmark offers guided tours through its ten rooms filled with Spanish Colonial furniture and landscaped gardens. Although it was never an actual palace, its heavily decorated rooms and cobblestone patio exude an 18th-century grandeur.
Entry into the palace is not expensive and there are a plethora of rooms and even a cozy backyard area with interesting looking lights. The Palace feels historic as it was created in the 1700s and is an enjoyable quick spot to visit in San Antonio. I'd recommend using the outdoor area and relaxing as the backyard is quite calming. Worth it!

A historical part of the city of San Antonio. It is surprising how well preserved it is after all this time, and on top of that how many different owners and even businesses it has gone through. There have been some modifications made to it, but for the most part they have complemented and kept the mansion close to its original state.

Spanish Governor’s Palace is a hidden gem well worth visiting when in San Antonio. The woman at reception handed me a map to use for the self-guided tour and offered a generous amount of information when I asked. Inside you’ll visit a former residence that was used also for commercial purposes with period furnishings. There are information plaques in each room. There’s even a courtyard that can be rented. Entrance fee was $5. Highly recommend!

For such a minimal fee of five dollars, it would be hard to understand why someone wouldn’t go to this historical site. Well, preserved and beautiful in its own simple way (nowadays). It was obviously a mansion in the past. The grounds are beautiful . However, there is obviously no air conditioning or heating. It is sweltering in the hot months and I’m sure freezing in the cold months. You’ve been warned.

The Spanish Governor's Palace is a place worth visiting. The restoration and remodeling work is well done. The garden is beautiful. Parking is one block away.

Beautiful place for a nice quaint cocktail hour/ wedding reception. (If your having a big wedding party not really the place for you) The evening was very elegant and perfect weather for my friends wedding reception. I did hear from them that the place has lots of "rules" to abide by and you aren't allowed in until a certain time to set up, which could be a game changer for some weddings but luckily they did have an hour before the wedding to set up and it looked perfect! If you have the right centerpieces, flowers and decor like they did your going to have a beautiful reception. The only drawbacks I saw were the bathrooms were one person at a time and no mirrors and the walkway pavements were very uneven! Definitely a walking hazard in some places. But it's truly a charming place and it has great atmosphere for the evening!! Once the flowers were placed and the candles lit with Beautiful music in the air and everyone in formal attire, the evening was made very elegant and classy.

Beautiful look into San Antonio history. Only $5 per adult for a self-guided tour. Lots of interpretive plaques to explain the fascinating history of the building and its numerous renovations. I really enjoyed the unique wooden doors and furniture. While not original to the building, they are appropriate replicas of what would have been there. Also thought the gardens in back were delightful with giant love oaks shading the walkways and fountain. Delightful staff greeted us on entrance. A fun stop.

San Antonio Botanical Garden is a 38-acre scenic area featuring various collections and exhibit areas, including formal and seasonal display gardens such as the rose garden, sensory garden, water-saving garden, and Kumamoto En Japanese Garden. The Lucile Halsell Conservatory offers a futuristic experience with an underground tunnel leading to the Palm House. Visitors can also explore the 11-acre Texas Native Trail and enjoy guided tours, bird-watching walks, lectures, and other events.
I love to visit the botanical garden in every city that I travel to. This garden was lovely and I was thrilled that it opened to the public at 8am before it got super hot. Beautiful displays and lots of pet and kid-friendly areas. The children's vegetable garden was very impressive (up to age 17) and they were harvesting okra when we visited. The Master Gardeners were great and very welcoming. The garden also offers culinary classes in their culinary plant garden; if we were in town longer, we would definitely have attended one. The outdoor area for the classes is a great set-up. We got the San Antonio City Pass and used this as one of our options. Highly recommend.

Amazing botanical garden! I have been to several throughout the nation, and I really loved this one. It has such a unique blend of native plants as well as interactive exhibits for the family like a splash pad. The architecture and design was an unexpected plus. I wish I had gotten there earlier to enjoy more of it before it got too hot outside. Will definitely be back!

A beautiful and peaceful place to explore! The gardens are very well maintained, with a wonderful variety of plants, flowers, and landscapes. Every corner feels unique, from tropical greenery to desert plants and colorful blooms. It’s perfect for a relaxing walk, taking photos, or just enjoying nature. Staff is friendly, and everything is easy to navigate. Definitely a must-visit spot in San Antonio! 🌿🌸🌵

I think it’s probably better for kids than seniors giving the amount of walking and the activities being geared towards families. But there are some cool buildings to see and some beautiful landscapes. This wasn’t my top tourist attention but certainly worth a visit. You’re mostly outside so keep that in mind if you don’t want to be out in the heat.

The kind of botanical gardens principally showing off native plants! Why are conservative ecological principles so important - go to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens to find out! The walking paths are great, tons of wildlife, great diversity of habitats from desert to wetlands, and indoor controlled climate exhibits in a central installation of the venue. There are multiple places to stop and rest, however, indoor air conditioning might be a consideration for those in concern. And not that a couple going on a date need to be fit as fiddler ferns, let the heat grow that transpiration up and escape to a great urban botanical afternoon delight! If you need help doing it, slow down and observe the birds and the bees. And if you’re still unsure or curious, there are plenty of labels, and many wonderful species, in well established gardens. This garden has love all through it with innumerable memory markers and looks to be solid donors supporting this awesome community space. If one would question if Texans’ love for plants and nature, and respecting, learning, and sharing nature, you’ll find no doubt here! Hit the gift shop on the way in and grab a popsicle and then pop in again on the way out and pickup some heartfelt items as gifts to your friends or to bring home some quality to your home. Imagine a world where we humans saw the whole planet as worshipful as a human made botanical gardens!?!! A visit to a botanical gardens might be a great way to start getting out in nature more! Check it out and dig into botany!! *items to note: details on google page hours and ticket prices inaccurate-> expect shorter hours and higher prices | cafe closed end of May 2025 so no coffee for budding botanists | Parking was easy and close with great access | there was an art installation which was thought provoking for all ages and easy to take in while walking around

Lovely gardens with lots of native plants . Wish they had more seating in the shade along the paths. Some of the areas were under construction and couldn’t be viewed. Ticket prices were a little in the high side but it was worth the trip.Lots of pollinator activity .

Nice spot for a peaceful walk, especially if you’re into plants and quiet spaces. The grounds are well-kept, and some areas (like the desert garden and the conservatory) are pretty cool. That said, it didn’t totally blow me away. Felt a bit underwhelming in parts—some sections seemed sparse or in need of a refresh. Also, for the ticket price, I expected a bit more to explore. Still, it’s a solid place to chill for a couple of hours, especially on a nice day. Not a must-see, but worth a visit if you’re nearby and want a break from the city buzz.

Absolutely amazing. The garden is incredible, well maintained, and enthralling. The art and the musicians were amazing. The staff helped make sure that all of our questions were answered, and taught us how to take care of our home pollinator garden. It is a large garden, good for getting your steps in and surrounded by beautiful plants. We are definitely coming back, the staff told us that the installations are rotating through the year and holidays.

Natural Bridge Caverns, located near San Antonio, is a popular destination offering subterranean cavern tours and an elevated adventure course. The site features the largest known caves and caverns in the United States, named after a 60-foot natural limestone slab bridge at the entrance.
We loved our visit to Natural Bridge Caverns. It was such a wonderful experience. I went with my mom and kids, and we all thought it was beautiful. The tour guides were fun, kind, and made the experience even better. The light show at the end of the cave was a nice touch, and the belt ride out made the exit very easy. I am really glad we decided to go. It is definitely worth a visit.

Natural Bridge Caverns was an amazing family adventure! As a family of four with two young kids, we were thrilled with how kid-friendly and educational the experience was. The guided tour through the caverns was well-paced, and our guide made it fun and engaging for the kids with interesting facts and stories. The stunning rock formations and underground chambers were fascinating to explore. Outside the caverns, we loved the gem and fossil mining activity—it was a big hit with our little ones! The grounds were clean, staff was friendly, and there were plenty of shaded areas and snacks available. A perfect mix of adventure, learning, and fun—highly recommended for families!

I’ve been visiting NBC since I was a young child. So many memories! I brought all 3 of my children (ages 7-16) to experience NBC and it was the highlight of our getaway. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and fun! It was easy enough for our 7 year old but the humidity is no joke! I have lived in Texas all of my life so I know humidity but it hits different in that cavern. Just a heads up for anyone visiting who might be sensitive or unaccustomed to high humidity levels. It is wise to make sure you have water on you and wear shoes with grip. My only complaint is the fact you have to pay to park on their private grounds where you are already spending $30+ per ticket. And on a side note… would love to see the dinosaur brought back. It just isn’t the same driving up and not seeing it. 😊

Did the hidden tours route. Definitely not for those with mobility issues due to the number of stairs. But if that's not a problem great variety of cave forms. Just stay towards the middle or front of the group. As I was at the back the lights were switching off as I walked out of the cathedral cavern so I didn't get to see into the bottom. Very knowledgeable tour guide in Colton. Great mix of science in how the caves were formed with the visual walk through. Definitely on a par with other caves I have been in around the world.

Visiting the Natural Bridge Caverns was an absolutely incredible experience! The formations are so unique and impressive that it almost doesn’t feel real. It’s hard to believe that something so stunning is completely natural. The tour was exciting, very well organized, and full of amazing sights at every step. It’s such a different and fascinating place — truly sensational. If you’re looking for something fun, educational, and unforgettable, this is a must-see attraction!

It was a Great Experience! We went the 3rd week of October and it wasn’t too busy or hot. The tour guide was very nice and informative. It was really cool to go too! Then we went to the Rope Obstacle course after which was totally worth the extra money! Super fun for even the adults!

We had such a great relaxing time at Natural Bridge Caverns. The grounds are beautiful and the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The caves is just something you need to see to believe. Food is a little expensive but it was served with a smile and friendly chit chat.

What a beautiful place that you can discover and enjoy the natural beauty. The ticket is $38.5 per adult, they have two routes, we went to the discover route that around an hour and 10 minutes, you will needs to climb up and down(sneakers will be the best option for this trip), only water allowed down there, no any other sugar drinks or food allowed. It’s pretty hot there, so you don’t need any extra jackets. Overall, it’s a great place that you can discover with your kids

Historic Market Square, also known as El Mercado, is a vibrant Mexican shopping area located in Downtown San Antonio. Established in 1890, this three-block plaza is home to over 100 shops offering a wide variety of apparel, handcrafts, and delicious food options. Visitors can immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere while exploring authentic Mexican handicrafts and watching artists at work. The market also features a food hall with tempting Tex-Mex cuisine and live music from Mariachi bands.
Highly recommend this place. So much colorful stuff that fulfills the eyes. Great place to take pictures. Fyi bathroom use @ $2 per person in some stalls. When we went the public bathroom was closed. Parking was $10. They do have the Mariachi Cafe & pastries, a must try!!!!!

The Historic Market Square in San Antonio is an absolute gem! It’s a vibrant, family-friendly spot with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There’s something for everyone—delicious food stalls, unique gift shops, and some really nice restaurants. The staff and vendors are incredibly friendly, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Perfect for a family outing or just a fun day exploring local culture and flavors. I can’t recommend it enough!

Absolutely love it here! Some of the Knick knacks are quite pricey. That I can remember. There was one specific store there that was the most affordable in the whole square. I really enjoyed the Modelo canned mango Michelada. The young lady even added the chamoy and tajin which was so delicious in the hot weather. We also stopped by the Henna tent and it was very affordable, quick and the young lady was super talented. She knocked out like 5 clients in less than 45 to an hr. I was super impressed! Will totally come again, its like a tradition to stop at MS anytime you're in SA!

The San Antonio Museum of Art, located in the former Lone Star Brewery, offers a diverse range of collections including Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Latin American and contemporary art. The museum features exhibits spanning over 5,000 years of history and culture from various civilizations. It is known for its comprehensive collection of art in the southern United States. The facility also houses contemporary galleries showcasing works by renowned artists as well as local Texans.
What a beautiful place! My husband and I came here on a Tuesday afternoon. We got tickets for one of their two times for Bexar county residents to come free, which I would recommend if you are also a resident. I want to note here that the parking lot beside the museum is a paid lot. It was about $8 for a four-hour slot when we came, which was plenty of time to get through the whole building. It took us about two and a half hours to go through all of the sections, and we enjoyed every bit of it! It took us about two and a half hours to go through all of the sections, but we enjoyed every bit of it! The pieces at the museum are very well curated and displayed, and each section is distinct in its specific period and art style. I took a few photos of some of my favorite pieces. It was so fascinating to see art from thousands of years ago all the way up to the present! We talked about the art the entire ride home. If you’re looking for a beautiful way to spend part of your day, look no further than this spot!

The San Antonio Museum of Art is a wonderful place to spend a few hours (maybe half a day). The collection is diverse, with art from all over the world and different time periods. The layout makes it easy to explore and appreciate each section at a comfortable pace. I enjoyed seeing both the ancient pieces and the more modern works. The building itself is beautiful and adds to the experience. It is a great spot for anyone who enjoys art and culture.

I had a fantastic time at this Museum! I loved sitting and reading the plaques that had exposition and backstory on the item it was attached to. I kept finding more interesting things to sit and research briefly on a bench provided. I easilly spent 3 hours there and honestly wanted to stay longer, but my paid parking was running out of time. I came 5 years ago and it was amazing, and it was just as cool this time around, even seeing some of the same artifacts. I'd easily go back to view the things I had to rush past! I wont post too many photos because I dont want to spoil the fun of discovery... You should truly go see for yourself!
Emily G — Google review
There’s so much to see. So much to sit with and take in. I will be back to see the exhibits I didn’t get to see. The wealth of information is extensive. Make sure you wear the proper shoes because there’s lots of ground to cover. Thankfully, the museum has many places for you to sit and take a break or simple mull over the art work right in front of you. If you want to start with American History, take a right as you walk in. If you want to start with Ancient Greece and or Eastern Civilization, take a left. You’ll also find African American History to your right as well. The museum has four floors on either side. If you don’t mind walking, take the stairs. If not, hop on the glass elevator which allows you to view the exhibits while taking a ride. The exhibits are well diverse and rich with history. You’ll thoroughly enjoy yourself if you’re a history buff like me. I’m always amazed to see how far we’ve come and in turn, appreciate the many contributions our ancestors made. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
Lisa C — Google review
A cool place to visit on a hot summer day. It houses collections from ancient Egypt to China, as well as some contemporary art. The place is not crowded, and you can come with a city pass. It’s close to the river walk, providing a quiet and relaxing experience.
Wei Y — Google review
My husband and I absolutely loved this museum. I personally enjoy studying paintings, and my husband is obsessed with Greek and Roman history. We visited on a Thursday after my brother graduated boot camp, and it was the perfect place to relax in the AC and take in the beautiful pieces the museum has on display. The museum is a lot bigger than we thought, and is 4 stories high. There are 2 elevators on either sides on the museum. We didn't have enough time to check out floor 3 or 4, but we'd definitely come back if we find ourselves in San Antonio again. We bought our tickets through CityPass, so checking in was fast and easy.

Best art museum I've been to in Texas. They have extensive and varied collections from around the world. It's an actual museum of all forms of art, not just a glorified art gallery. I was there for four and half hours and had to rush through the end because they were closing. Would definitely do it again. I do wish they were open a little longer on the weekends.
Jacob H — Google review
We visited the museum for the free family day event. Even when there were several activities for kids, it was geared more for ages 5 and up... I'd suggest for the next family day to have more activities the little can enjoy rough touching. The museum per se it wonderful, my kids loved to see all the paintings and artifacts.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is a part of a popular amusement park chain and offers an array of attractions for visitors. The park is situated within 100-foot-tall quarry walls and showcases five themed sectors that highlight the diverse culture of Texas. It features nine thrilling roller coasters, including the largest steel coaster in Texas, Superman: Krypton Coaster, and the Goliath, a suspended looping coaster reaching speeds of 50 mph.
Six Flags San Antonio was an unforgettable experience! I had such a great time — the rides were thrilling, the atmosphere electric, and the Halloween vibes made everything even more special. The decorations, music, and costumed performers really brought the park to life. It’s the perfect mix of fun and excitement, and I loved how unique the whole experience felt. Definitely a must-visit if you’re ever in San Antonio!

Went during fright fest 2025 had a great time. They replaced the restraints on wonder woman which were an improvement. The new restraints dont dig into your shoulders or cause discomfort. The theming of the coasters has been improving recently and the park was really clean especially considering it was a weekend. Would recommend getting there early if you want to get rides on a specific coaster. The haunted attractions were also well done. I would recommend going with a day pass if you don't plan on visiting more than twice a month. They also offer military discounts for active duty and veterans on their day passes. Current pricing on their website for a day pass is 50.33 usd for slower days i.e weekday. Pricing goes up from there if you are a Rollercoaster enthusiast or fan of theme parks I would recommend getting their season pass since it will give you entry into the other parks in the chain.

I want to say it's not a bad theme park to visit;however, if you are frugal and like to be on the cheap side not a place to go. I've been here several times with relatives but I do not enjoy the long lines, crowds and parking. During this time there has been highway closures and construction that traffic is beyond laughable. It can be a 30 minute wait or even 45 min to leave the parking lot. I parked in the General area just to give you an idea of my headache. Personally, it would be better to fly in with a drone and get dropped off. Now, they have VIP tickets or so they promote but you still ha e to wait in line and I just see it as another gimmick. Anyways, I don't want to be a party pooper here but it's another place to visit if you've never been. Just make sure you Bring your wallet full of $$ or credit cards and good walking shoes. There is alot of walking involved and waiting in line so be prepared. Prices are way up high but just remeber where you are.

The rides are very thrilling and fun but they do have some moderate level ones for kids. The fright fest was a great time to go and the decor and atmosphere matched the park theme. The 4 star is because my friends had season passes but they did not apply to this location apparently.

We went last Sunday and had a great time. Very fun , I’m just going to add that they should have maximum supervision in the recreation machine because I saw a lot of young people, they still looked in adolescence, I don’t know how prepared and experts they are in machining these recreational machines but it causes me curiosity and fear, the last machine we wanted to get on was on the SkyScreamer flying chairs around 9:00 pm, after being about 20 minutes waiting in line, the young who were operating the machine said us that they got a technical issues, we got scared and went to the music show. The haunted house is really nice, the decoration, the details and the characters were fantastic, I really had a lot of fun, I have to congratulate the workers, they did a good job, the witches scared me a lot and the characters surprised me between scares and laughter, my favorite part of the park, I am delighted to see the park for the first time on Halloween 👻 🎃 season.

The Japanese Tea Garden, located within San Antonio's expansive Brackenridge Park, is a picturesque attraction that dates back to 1901. Originally developed on donated land from an abandoned quarry, the garden features a stunning array of Japanese-inspired elements such as stone bridges, a pagoda, koi ponds, and a captivating 60-foot waterfall. This historic site has been meticulously renovated and is now open to the public year-round.
I took my mommy she's 88 and loved it!This is a beautiful visit for family in town, a date night, to take the kids, sit and do some midday class work. The Waterfall is really nice and maybe the only one many will see, so it's a great touch! Now it's hot- this is Texas so early morning 🌄 I'm sure is best. We'll return again in November once the weather changes God willing! Enjoy and take yo time to take it all in, get your pictures and then enjoy the views and the Fish 🐟

The McNay Art Museum, located in a 1929 Spanish Colonial Revival mansion with a modern addition, is known as Texas's first museum of modern art. The museum boasts an extensive collection of American and European art spanning from Medieval to contemporary times. Visitors can explore Post-Impressionist paintings, contemporary Latino prints, and the Jeanne and Irving Mathews Collection of Art Glass.
We visited the McNay on a quiet weekday and had a great experience. The check-in process was smooth, and we appreciated the military and senior discounts. The museum blends a Spanish style historic mansion with thoughtfully curated art from a range of time periods—Renaissance religious works, modern pieces, and artists like Monet, Pollock and Diego Rivera. We also enjoyed some unique video installations and interactive spaces. The central courtyard and pond was peaceful and relaxed. We spent about two hours and followed it with lunch nearby—a lovely, low-key afternoon.

Super cool exhibits, and some of them were interactive. Very interesting ideas, styles and inspirations put on display by the artists. There was also a sort of cohesive juxtaposition between the traditional tiles and woodwork of the house compared to the modern art pieces that lined its rooms. Very fun!

Beautiful grounds and home. Some iconic artwork. We went for the pottery by 5th generation native American, female Potter from Santa Clara NM. Also found egg tucked away in decorative cutout window on the balcony

We were transported to another world of the imagination and creativity of so many artists. It was a welcome break from our daily reality. Thank you to HEB for making it affordable on Thursday afternoons. My favorite exhibits were the larger-than-life outdoor sculptures. I never tire of beholding the “faux bois” concrete bird house, outdoor seating and gazebo. I wonder if they are by San Antonio artist Carlos Cortes. 🤔

Absolutely love it here. Always a nice place to walk around and relax. It’s not a huge museum but you can definitely spend about an hour in a half here. Also a great place to bring a book and sit outside. The staff were very kind.

Had a great time. They have plenty of discount deals so I would look into that! I like that they had a kid section to show off High Schoolers work. The famous paintings were pretty amazing to see and the sculpture garden could be its own visit in itself. They have some free cards at the front desk to check out and then the gift shop for other goodies. I went around 3 pm on a Sunday and it was fairly empty which I appreciated because I had time to analyze the paintings without worrying about blocking someone else’s view!

Wonderful collection that spans several movements from the last 100 years or so. The building is very unique and beautiful with the interior courtyard providing a tranquil spot for repose and reflection. The grounds are picturesque and the perfect backdrop for a photoshoot.

La Villita Historic Village is a charming square-block enclave in San Antonio, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. It's a bustling arts community with art galleries, craft stores, restaurants, and cafes along the south bank of the San Antonio River. Visitors can leisurely explore galleries and shops to find unique gifts reflecting the city's rich culture. The area also features landmarks like San Fernando Cathedral and The Majestic Theatre.
The historic village is a motley collection of small shops and tiny buildings. It's a beautiful place and is well maintained. They recently planet flowers around, and it's very vibrant. The atmosphere is amazing and it's a nice place to walk around and shop. The tiny buildings are adorable, and it truly has that village vibe to it.

This magical place on the Riverwalk is a perfect spot to bring your family and friends. Enjoy a great show on the stage and just a walk away. You have restaurants and great places to grab a drink. The scenery is beautiful and colorful. If you’re out on a hot day, make sure you pack a small fan and an umbrella. It’s the perfect place to take your significant other and spend a romantic day or night with them. TEXAS can get a bit spicy. lol

We were lucky to vist around the day of the dead so there was a lot of cool artwork everywhere. I'm not sure if the art is permanently there. I have to say it's very quiet during the day. We got there around 11 am on a Sunday and it was nice and quiet. If you like a more busy atmosphere, I'm guessing early evening would be best. Located on the southern bank of the famed San Antonio River Walk, La Villita now occupies one artsy square block in the heart of downtown San Antonio. The Artisan village is listed on the U.S. government's National Register of Historic Places, featuring architectural styles that range from adobe structures, to early Victorian and Texas vernacular limestone buildings. Today, La Villita is a treasured Artisan and Entrepreneur district with over 25 shops and galleries that showcase local handmade goods and home to over 200 events a year.

La Villita Village is a small but vibrant cultural spot that took me by surprise. Though compact in size, it’s absolutely packed with charm, history, and artistic expression. As I wandered through its quaint streets, I felt immersed in the rich cultural roots that give this village its unique character. The highlight of my visit was stumbling upon a lively dance festival happening right in the heart of the village. The music, the colorful costumes, and the energy of the performers were simply infectious—I couldn’t help but stay and enjoy every moment. It added an unexpected and joyful twist to my day and really showcased the spirit of the community. La Villita is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Whether you're into local art, handcrafted goods, cultural events, or just a peaceful stroll through a historic part of town, this little village offers a memorable experience.

Nestled in the heart of downtown along the San Antonio River Walk, the Briscoe Western Art Museum is a captivating tribute to the history and culture of the American West. Housed in a beautifully restored 1930s building, it showcases a diverse collection spanning five centuries, including Pancho Villa's saddle and Santa Anna's sword.
Very interesting museum in an historic first library in San Antonio. We visited mid-week during Spring Break 2025. There is an admission fee to view the exhibits of many types of art and historical artifacts (like wagons); a history lesson around every corner. Some of the bronze sculptures don't look like bronze. Just beautiful. There is an open area patio off to the side of the building that is open for passersby to step inside the gated area to view the many bronze sculptures and ceramic dioramas. Guards mingle with the guests to ensure nothing is touched inside. They were very friendly and enjoyed talking with visitors.

The Briscoe is a must visit when in San Antonio! Built in a lovely old post office, right on the river, it’s a beautiful example of adaptive reuse. The permanent collection is diverse with paintings, sculpture and western paraphernalia. The current temporary exhibit about the Spanish/Mexican Baja California cowboys who went to Hawaii is very well done and was a complete surprise to me. If you are choosing between the Fine Art Museum and the Briscoe, go western

The Briscoe is a great museum. The traveling exhibit we got to see was also amazing. Highly recommend, especially if you love Western art or want to learn more about Texas or Native American history, etc. Lots of bronze sculptures and different types of paintings.

One of the newest art museums in downtown San Antonio, the Briscoe Western Art Museum is a treasure and a must-see attraction. While the collection is not enormous, it is very engrossing and centered around Texas, and to a large degree, cowboy art which is not widely accessible. This is a perfect place to see and absorb information on the cowboy culture. It is a fantastic place to hang out for couple hours and perfect for families with young children. It’s also right on the Riverwalk so easy to swing by during your trot around. Highly recommended to visit during your trip to San Antonio.

The Briscoe art museum is a must see in San Antonio the art pieces they have are absolutely beautiful, the building was built by architect Herbert S. The Witte Museum in San Antonio offers a diverse range of exhibits that cater to visitors of all ages. The museum features long-term displays on natural history, art, and Texas heritage, as well as a Science Treehouse for interactive learning experiences. The facility is designed with sustainability in mind and includes six permanent interactive centers for play and learning.
Visiting the Witte Museum was an absolutely incredible experience! The "Staying Alive: Animal Defenses" exhibit was not only educational but also exciting and beautifully curated. The live animal show was a highlight—engaging, well-presented, and perfect for all ages. The informational displays alongside each animal offered fascinating insights into how creatures survive in the wild using camouflage, mimicry, and other defense mechanisms. Beyond that, the museum's general art and science exhibits were equally impressive, blending history, culture, and interactive learning in a way that kept me hooked the entire visit. You can truly tell how much care goes into every corner of the museum. If you’re visiting San Antonio, even if you only have a small interest in science, animals, or art—this museum is a must-visit. It’s fun, affordable, and packed with discovery. And the best part? Admission is free every Tuesday from 3–6 PM, making it accessible for everyone. Don't miss out!

The Witte Museum is a must visit in San Antonio with children. There is free parking avail on-site and the directions are easy to follow. Exhibits are quite interesting also have shows going on explaining everything. The hands on labs make things even more fun for kids. One can spend minimum 2 3 hrs with ease and maybe even more. I'm taking 1 star for the HEB sci house as it was quite disappointing and was more like a ghost house.

This was a stand out place for our San Antonio vacation! With older kids it can be hard to find a place that each age range has fun and the Witte really fit the bill! We loved the exhibits and learning about Texas history and the tree house area was a big hit for us all! The dinosaur area was well placed to welcome you into the museum. We loved the mix of high and low tech throughout the museum as well. Would absolutely visit again should we find ourselves in San Antonio.

Definitely had some nice things to learn about, and it was interactive for the kids. The only issue I had was that my service dog, who is now 16 years old, wasn’t aloud in. I don’t think they believed she was a real service dog because we brought her in a stroller. But due to her age, I have her living the life of luxury now. She still does her job, though she doesn’t have to do as much. Specifically, she will bark to let me know when I need to find a safe place and lie down. Other than that, it was a really nice and educational experience. I basically just took a risk, you could say, because I had brought my kids all the way out here and wasn’t going to let them miss out just because I didn’t plan for any issues.

Nice local museum. No wait to get in on a Saturday. Local colleges get in free everyday. Military discount is available. A good collection of dinosaurs, fossils, animals, flora, fauna, and history of local area and the state of Texas. Has a snack cafe and a gift shop to visit as well. Very kid friendly. Both Spanish and English signs. Free parking garage. Brankenridge Park is right next to it as well. Took us 4-5 hrs to get through without children. Can upgrade your ticket for the membership pass, which provides discounts.

Dinosaur kids dream come true. Despite only having a few dinosaurs they are epicly displayed. My 3 year old girl lost her mind when she entered the museum. 10/10 would come again. Only wish the dinosaur part covered more of the musuem. We got this as part of the city pass and it was a quick and easy check in. That was good cuz this 3 year old needed to see those dinos!!!

It was nicely laid out, with multiple building and a large outdoor area with smaller buildings check out by the river. The best part was the use of holograms! Very cool. In a couple of places they have videos and mannequins that are very realistic. I also liked that they had different types of displays and different timelines in history. Everything from dinosaurs to a photo galley to an indigenous people gallery. This museum is well maintained with lots of clean bathrooms. Appropriate for people of all ages. It’s also laid out so that it’s mobility friendly. And I specifically noted that they are LGBTQ friendly. The cost was worth the several hours I spent there on my visit. It’s highly recommended.

Located in San Antonio, the Pearl Brewery is a historic complex that was once the headquarters of a brewing company. Now, it has been transformed into a vibrant community with shops, restaurants, and residences. The complex features beautiful yellow brick buildings, stables, and courtyards that have been restored and repurposed to house boutique shops and unique dining concepts. Visitors can enjoy a weekend market as one of its main attractions.
Perfect date spot, perfect walking spot, perfect place to stay, perfect place to bring your kids, just an overall amazing area to go and spend a day walking around. You can walk the river walk, see wildlife, have a photo shoot, and even fish in some spots. The market has a lovely ice cream area where you can get some cold desserts and have a seat right outside. There is a small green area for kids to play on and they have movies there sometimes. Awesome date spot and just a go to place. Be careful with your parking, they will give tickets for not parking far enough away from the curb.

The Pearl in San Antonio offers a vibrant blend of historic charm and modern flair, making it one of the city’s most unique destinations. Once a brewery complex, it’s now a walkable district filled with boutique shops, excellent restaurants, a lively weekend farmers market, and the beautiful Hotel Emma. The mix of industrial architecture, green spaces, and cultural events creates an upscale yet laid-back atmosphere that appeals to both locals and tourists. Whether you’re grabbing a coffee, dining riverside, or exploring the local art scene, The Pearl delivers a memorable and stylish experience.

Wow, just wow. I was super impressed with this space. You're not sure what you're going to when someone tells you to go to the Pearl; however, it's like a little mini district off the Riverwalk trail. I walked there to the Pearl, and it was a great space. I'm sad I got there after 10:00 pm, as it was still lively enough. I would recommend going earlier to see a lot more, as there was a lot going on, but a lot of vendors were already shutting down, so I missed out on some things. This space has many vendors to choose from for drinks and food. Sadly enough, I didn't get a chance to try any of the food here, as I was walking around trying to find other spaces that looked like everything was shutting down. If you're in the San Antonio Riverwalk area, I would suggest anyone to come and check out this space.

Highly recommend during any trip to San Antonio, short or long stay. We came on our week-long San Antonio to Austin visit, and it was a SA highlight. We arrived at Pearl on a Wednesday around 5:30pm, just in time for their evening market. The mall stores were closed or closing, but the local vendor options were great. The Pearl was bustling with young people, families and locals. We stopped in the food market for a drink and met some locals who gave us other San Antonio recommendations, but they said Pearl is the best area for family-friendly evening activities.

Definitely a nice place to stroll in the spring or fall cooler temps, or possibly early in the morning during the summer months. I visited this area today and dined at one of the local eateries. I was pleasantly surprised how this area has been transformed for the better. I will be back to walk around and visit another spot to dine. I enjoyed myself and my visit and hope you do too. I added some pictures of the area, although I know i did NOT do the area justice.

I had the chance to attend The Pearl’s Día de los Muertos celebration, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! The event attracted a huge crowd, and for good reason—the energy was fantastic. The atmosphere was lively, with beautiful artwork on display at various locations throughout the venue. From intricate Catrinas to colorful alebrije sculptures and oversized skulls, the art was a stunning tribute to the tradition. We spent some time walking around and admiring the displays, and I have to say, the talent and creativity were impressive. As for food, the usual vendors were in full swing, offering all the classic festival treats. We grabbed some delicious pan de muerto from Pullman Market, which was a perfect bite to enjoy while soaking in the sights. Music was another highlight of the night. The DJ set the mood with upbeat tunes, but the real magic came when the mariachi band took over. Their live performance added an authentic touch, and really made the evening feel special, especially as we awaited the procession. Speaking of the procession—it was such a meaningful part of the evening, adding a touch of reverence and beauty to the event. The energy was palpable as everyone gathered to participate in this traditional ritual. However, while the event itself was amazing, there was a hiccup when it came time to leave. The Oxbow parking garage system wasn’t working properly, and we found ourselves stuck in a massive line of cars trying to exit. We were at a standstill for about 20 minutes before I called Pearl's security. They explained that the system had malfunctioned earlier but had been fixed. Unfortunately, we ended up waiting for another 40 minutes after the call, as the line wasn’t moving at all. Some drivers were getting frustrated and even honking or trying to cut into the line. Even with the parking mishap, the event itself was absolutely beautiful. The weather was perfect—cool, crisp air with the moon shining brightly overhead. It truly made for a memorable evening, and despite the exit frustration, I’d still recommend attending next year. The Pearl’s Día de los Muertos celebration is definitely one to experience!

I was here at the Pearl yesterday reviewing the Central Market Rotisserie Chicken when it dawned on me. San Antonio is AWESOME. There is so much soul in this city. I've had some amazing food from Taquitos West Ave, 2M BBQ, Al Carbon Pollos Asado, etc, but what really sold me was the community feel in this city. The Pearl is a huge walkable plaza with great restaurants, coffee shops, seating areas, a river walk, public events, etc. Yesterday there was a seemingly endless farmers market going on with local vendors selling everything you could ever need, kids playing tackle football in an open green pasture, and people just enjoying their Sunday in the sun with a beer or some fresh grub from Palmer Market. There is such a strong community here. It's infectious. I pride myself on forming my own opinions on damn near everything, almost to a fault at times, but this weekend has made me realize that I let Charles Barkley and my hatred for the early 2000s San Antonio Spurs form my opinion on this city. Never again. I will ride or die for San Antonio for the rest of my time here on this planet. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
San Antonio Zoo is a sprawling 56-acre zoo located in an old limestone quarry on St Marys Street. It's home to over 9,000 animals from 779 species, including alligators and zebras. The zoo was one of the first in the country to be cageless, offering visitors a unique experience.
I absolutely adore this place and am so thrilled we have it right here in San Antonio! The animals are so well cared for, which is fantastic. I especially love the abundance of trees for shade and the “cool zones” where you can cool off under misting or an outdoor air conditioner. I wouldn’t splurge on the food here since it’s a bit pricey, so definitely come feed and walk it out! My husband and I snagged the yearly ticket. You can even enter for free after paying the one-time fee! It takes about an hour and 39 minutes to see the whole park, which is a great workout. You won’t even realize how many steps you’ve taken until you’re done! I’m also super excited because they might be adding gorillas this fall 2025! How cool is that?
David M — Google review
The San Antonio Zoo was pretty good and I liked how kid friendly it was. I feel that (especially in the summer time) the zoo could've been more abundantly staffed and you could tell how understaffed they were at certain parts of the park. I must say that we definitely underestimated the San Antonio sun the day we went (Temperatures reached 110°F 🥵🥵) and the heat I'm sure had a lot to do with a good amount of the animal exhibits being empty. I want to commend the Zoo on their butterfly exhibit because it was a highlight of our park experience and I love the conservation efforts and how well they protect and take care of the butterflies, they also do a great job educating every patron that comes in to visit the butterflies. The other big highlight of our Zoo experience was feeding the Giraffes! Very interactive and kids friendly. There was a bit of a line and the shade around the Giraffe's area is almost non-existent. So, I highly recommend bringing all the mist fans, sun hats, umbrellas, and sun-screen. My last gripe about the park has more to do with money than anything and that's their no personal water bottles/metal containers rule. You can't bring your own water or water for you kids because they want you to buy their $5 - 20oz Dasani water bottles. And that's just not good practice and not having the customer's best interests at hand with how much walking, lack if shade, and hear exposure there is. To the Zoo's credit there were some mist fan tents to help people cool down. I think we encountered 2-3 of them spanning the park. Lastly, the fish, reptiles, and big cats areas were great cool down areas and made the work more enjoyable.

Pretty solid size zoo with a bunch of different species of animals. They are missing some common ones like the elephant, but theres plenty of animals to see here. Theres a lot of great enclosures and some well themed areas. I also went on a dog day, which was fun seeing all the dogs react to the various animals. I would definitely recommend going earlier in the day because of the heat, and probably when the animals are most active.
Nick D — Google review
We went on a slow day, it was pretty hot. That said we were able to see pretty much everything they have and offer for purchase with not missing an animal! Kids loved it. And they have really good marks! Food there is eh... but who goes for that!? Great zoo over all! You can tell they take great care of the wild life they have.

We decided to go to San Antonio for the day and check out the San Antonio zoo. We were so disappointed it’s small. There’s no elephants the elephant had passed away and I think they were in the process of getting new elephants. There’s no gorilla the majority of the park are birds, we couldn’t feed the giraffes because we didn’t get there in time. It’s just a small zoo. It’s not as exciting as the big zoo Houston zoo is much much better so save your trip and do something else in San Antonio. Don’t go to the zoo. For $39 dollars I was expecting so much more. The stag is friendly!! And the park is serene.

It is much easier to go on line prior to visiting and get a pass or annual pass. The zoo was very clean. 90% of the animals were out and visible. I highly recommend morning or late afternoon for cooler visits on the hot days. We were very pleased with the amenities and the family had a great day.

I've lost count on how many times we've gone. Maybe 3-4 times a year. We've had season passes the past 2-3 years. Hippos are still my favorite. Sad they lost a lion. Excited for gorillas and the new event center. Lots of good quick changes. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of fun, learning and walking. Criticism: Food is overpriced and underwhelming.

I've lived in San Antonio since 2017 and had never been to the Zoo! I recently received free tickets through my job for my family and decided it was time to go check it out at least once. I hate doing anything in San Antonio due to the amount of people literally everywhere, however I was pleasantly surprised at the LACK of people everywhere. We went on a Sunday and it was the best thing I've ever done here in San Antonio and I really enjoyed our time here. Some animals were not out, which is understandable. Their enclosures seemed rather spacious (esp compared to other zoos) and clean! Many concessions were not open, so it did take a while to find food and drinks. I did get a bucket of fries and those were so good! And you can get refills on the buckets, but we went towards the end of the day. If you want to buy tickets, you buy them online now. They have QR codes outside of the entrances for purchase. We rode the carousel twice as well. You also buy those tickets through the QR code.

The Majestic Theatre, a national landmark in downtown San Antonio, is renowned for its ornate Mediterranean-style architecture and rich cultural heritage. This historic gem, opened in 1929, boasts a lavish interior resembling a grand Spanish castle with intricate detailing and a stunning ceiling reminiscent of a starry night. With the capacity to accommodate over 2,000 guests, it has become a popular venue for touring concerts, Broadway shows, live entertainment, comedy acts, and classic films.
We recently attended a Daryl Hall concert at the Majestic Theatre, and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The venue itself is absolutely stunning, with its grand architecture, intricate detailing, and classic charm that truly lives up to its name. The seating was excellent—comfortable with a great view of the stage, no matter where you sat. The theater is well-designed, making it easy to navigate, and the staff was friendly and efficient. One of the standout aspects was the convenience. The full bar and snack options were easily accessible, and getting a drink was a breeze. Even the restrooms were well-maintained, with quick-moving lines, which is always a plus at a busy event. Transportation was also hassle-free. Taking an Uber to and from the venue was simple, with easy access for pick-up and drop-off. Overall, the Majestic Theatre provides a top-notch concert experience with its beautiful atmosphere, smooth logistics, and great amenities. If you have the chance to see a show here, don’t miss it!

The theatre is absolutely beautiful and everyone that works there is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the place. You can tell that it exists out of a love and dedicated stewardship of history. The acoustics are excellent even today. I definitely want to go back for a guided tour. If you love historical buildings, do not miss this one. It is amazing! If you are there for a show, walk up to the stage and look back towards the entrance. It looks like a Spanish cityscape you imagine from fairy tales.

Saw the Broadway production of Moulin Rouge at the BEAUTIFUL Majestic Theatre while we were in San Antonio on vacation. It was my first time at the Majestic and the interior is just incredible! My photos don't do it justice... It is so beautiful and unique! We sat in the balcony and the sight lines were wonderful. There was no part of the show we could not see from our seats. If you have been to other venues you know that is not always the case. HIGHLY recommend a visit to the Majestic in San Antonio to see a show!! And Moulin Rouge was a fantastic show!!

The show was incredible. My only negative star is purely for confusion on the QR code at my table. We had left box seats, which is fine but the QR code to have drinks/food delivered didn't start till after the show, where they literally request you not yo open your phone. Also at that point, they literally charge $15 for a single and $30 for a double [Maker's Mark], I can LITERALLY buy a whole bottle for the double cost lol. And then it even costs EXTRA to add some items to your drink, it's a little ridiculous. There's essentially no food, so not sure why they even try to advertise that as well.

This is just a great old theater. It can be a bit of a tight squeeze getting around. However, it's worth it to see how it's all designed and the amazing workmanship put into it.

The Bexar County Courthouse, located in downtown San Antonio, is a remarkable example of Romanesque Revival architecture and the largest historic courthouse in Texas. Designed by renowned architect J. Riely Gordon, it holds numerous national and state historic designations. Restored to its original splendor, the courthouse stands as a prominent landmark on Main Plaza and continues to function as a courthouse while also being open for visitors to admire its unique architectural features.
Beautiful architecture. I'm glad they did not destroy it and replace with some horrendous 1980's government spec structure.
Janna K — Google review
This courthouse is the "largest and oldest continuously operated historic courthouse in Texas", according to the county website. It was built in the 1890s. This massive building is interesting because the design is not typical of the town square courthouses I've visited throughout Texas and the front view is not symmetrical with the 2 different tower appearances... different in height and design. Its color comes from red sandstone. It was closed on a Saturday, so I didn't get a chance to go inside.
Francisco L — Google review
This court just let a man go home on bail for a murder that was pre planned, had been warned about for years, and was executed in broad daylight, out of hate! Not only that but he admitted to the crime, make no mistake, a charge of murder does not require bail, this was a conscious hateful decision to send a message to a community, regardless of conviction or not. If your a minority or fear for your life, then the police and court of law here should make you afraid, both out of danger and their incompetence, empathy, or will to follow the law, there should be investigations into a broad day light hate crime leading to death in AGAIN broad daylight! Instead they try to sweep it under the rug for the good ol’ boys which should have its own investigations. (From what I hear this place cares more about money than justice, huh I wonder why that matters here, money over a life is pathetic) Justice for Jonathan Joss

It’s a beautiful building. But public entrance time changes all time . Get a permission before enter. Detail : Bexar County was created on December 20, 1836, and encompassed almost the entire western portion of the Republic of Texas. This included the disputed areas of eastern New Mexico northward to Wyoming. After statehood, 128 counties were carved out of its area. The county was named for San Antonio de Béxar, one of the 23 Mexican municipalities (administrative divisions) of Texas at the time of its independence. San Antonio de Béxar—originally Villa de San Fernando de Béxar—was the first civil government established by the Spanish in the province of Texas. Specifically, the municipality was created in 1731 when 55 Canary Islanders settled near the system of missions that had been established around the source of the San Antonio River. The new settlement was named after the Presidio San Antonio de Béjar, the Spanish military outpost that protected the missions. The presidio, located at the San Pedro Springs, was founded in 1718 and named for Viceroy Balthasar Manuel de Zúñiga y Guzmán Sotomayor y Sarmiento, second son of the Duke of Béjar (a town in Spain). The modern city of San Antonio in the U.S. state of Texas also derived its name from San Antonio de Béjar.

This review is not for the staff, nor for anybody else. This review is specific for Judge Nadine Melissa Nieto. There are some really good honorable judges in Bexar County that get overlooked. The clerks try their best with everything they do and they only follow directions from their supervisors. The staff has nothing to do with what goes on in the court rooms with judges. Judge Nadine Melissa Nieto is the prime example on why Bexar County Court house is under investigation. Judges like her, put a dishonorable name on Bexar County Court House. She is not by the people or for the people. Elections are coming up, do your research on judges. Bexar County and other governmental entities are understaffed and that might be the reason why Bexar County is dealing with judge like Judge Nadine Melissa Nieto. My case is Yessica Yazmin Garcia vs Jacob Rodriguez

Every single person I've encountered at this court house is extremely rude and disrespectful. Especially employees at 407th district court. I'm human and a person trying to navigate through custody court and have been treated like trash and talked to like I'm dumb because I'm doing everything "Pro Se".

This is strictly a review of the building! The architecture is unique and I think it's a beautiful building. The city should be proud to have such a gorgeous building for court business. It makes sense the reviews are all over the place for the actual functions and services provided. As a visitor or tourist, I recommend getting a close up look of the building, the fountain, and the sculptures.

The Guenther House is a charming historic restaurant located in an Art Nouveau-style home at Pioneer Flour Mills. This beloved spot offers a cozy atmosphere and serves up delicious American and Tex-Mex cuisine, making it a popular choice for brunch and outdoor dining. The restaurant's rich history dates back to 1859 when the flour used in their famous pancakes was milled on-site.
No complaints on this joint. Very neat atmosphere. You’re sitting in a very old house which was really neat. The food was very good, you were not left wishing for more and price seemed on point. Waitress was nice and kept up with us well.

What a great experience!! The food was definitely worth the wait, from the lunch food to the breakfast was so amazing! Great atmosphere! Great service and they even have a gift shop upstairs! I got to grab there well know jams in a trio and there grade A maple syrup! Would definitely be going back and it was a great way to end my weekend in San Antonio! Would recommend a million times ! And our sever was great she was awesome! Oh and don’t forget to grab a cup a Joe!

Top notch breakfast. The cinnamon roll was on point. The biscuits and gravy was packed full of flavor. The quiche may have taken the crown, but truly everything we ordered was delicious. Staff were friendly and service was fast. Their prices were great especially considering how amazing everything tasted. Overall if you love food and want to be blown away with amazing flavors come here!

This place is really cute and it’s built in an old house, but it’s really kind of a hype thing. We waited about 45 minutes and that was a good day. We tried to come before and it was an hour and a half. No reservations so you just have to get on the list and then be semi close by to come when they text. The building The seating is indoor or outdoor, and the outdoor has some cooling effects. You can explore the house and that’s nice. And they have a little gift shop. Also, insanely cute bathrooms Parking Parking is all around the street, and it’s free. Service The waiter could’ve been nicer. Sometimes he seemed curt whenever we were asking more questions. Food The, chicken and waffles were the stand out. They were so good if I went back. That’s what I would go back for. The sandwich with chicken though was pretty basic and Chick-fil-A is better so it’s not something that I would go back for for a brunch, but if I was dying for chicken and waffles, I would go back. The reason I’m giving it 3 stars is because the food seemed pretty basic for waiting that long and some of it wasn’t even that good An example was the pineapple was not ripe, and it was almost in Inedible. The iced coffee came with one free refill which is a nice bang for your buck.

We had to wait almost an hour to be seated, but the meal made up for it. The outdoor park atmosphere was beautiful, and had plenty of seating to pass the time before getting to your table. Keep in mind it is Texas, so the majority of the year, this may not be as comfortable, but we lucked out and had great weather in October to sit outside. The seating inside was a bit cramped and loud, but it was tolerable. The staff was welcoming and warm despite being constantly busy. Our table had a couple of custom orders that they were very accommodating of, and every plate was empty, and every belly was happy by the end of the meal. It was a lovely historical spot with delicious food right on the river walk. There was even parking available for customers, which is not something you typically find on the river walk.

Amazing place to visit!! Lovely gift shop, delicious food, gorgeous museum, and lovely staff as well! Everything is kept clean inside. I adored the restaurant, the interior is super cute! Definitely would like to try to dine outside on a good day as well! I highly recommend their quiche, though it changes often, hopefully you can try the one with jalapeños, cheese, and chorizo!! I am obsessed with that quiche and want it everyday for breakfast. Would love to try their desserts sometime soon! I want to go back already!

Beautiful place, went during the week and it was only a 15 minute wait. The lemonade I ordered while we waited was probably the sweetest drink I’ve ever had (not in a good way) it had to be watered down to make bearable. The service was good, polite and friendly. I appreciated how fluffy the biscuit was and the sausage was actually quite tasty, I don’t usually like sausage. I really enjoyed the roasted pecans on top of the pancakes. Overall, solid place, but Iacking the wow factor.

Wow this place is amazing! It was beautiful all around. The food was PHENOMENAL! we arrived at the perfect time because there was no wait. By the time we left there was a line though. We spent about $20 per person because we HAD to try the pastries too!!! Everything was delicious. My mom’s favorite was the biscuits and gravy, everything was homemade and she got a side of preserves to try too and that was awesome. My favorite was the coffee cake 🥰. Once done eating, walk around and enjoy the amazing view

Brackenridge Park, located near downtown San Antonio, is a historic riverside park with a rich history dating back to prehistoric times. The park features scenic trails, picnic areas, athletic fields, and play areas nestled among Live Oak trees. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque Brackenridge Park Bridge, originally built in 1890 and relocated to the park after being damaged by a flood. The bridge's commemorative plaques have an interesting political history and are now painted completely in gold.
This is a beautiful park, one of the best. It's perfect for walking, picnicking, parties, fishing, playing, biking. It's fabulous. I loved all the green areas. I love going for walks in the evenings, getting out to clear my head and watching the sunset.

Breckenridge Park is very beautiful and quite large. The park connects and encompasses several different historical sites and venues like the San Antonio Zoo, Kiddie Park, the train ride, a softball field, and the Japanese Tea Gardens. The playground across from the Softball field is currently closed although it looks fine from afar but a sign says it won't open until Oct 2026. That is over a year away and seems excessively long to have the current playground closed.

We went to the park at 9am on a Friday and it was very quiet with people walking and jogging around. We took our dog there and the geese weren't phased when we walked by. We could only walk around the park for about 30 mins. The neighborhood is a very quiet place as well. I recommend visiting

The Japanese Tea Garden is one of the most scenic spots in San Antonio. Beautiful landscaping, peaceful walking paths, and incredible views at every turn. The waterfall, koi ponds, and stone bridges make it feel like you stepped into a postcard. It can get busy, especially with people taking pictures, but the beauty is worth it. A perfect place for a relaxing walk, photos, or just enjoying nature.

Pros: - Beautiful, clean park - Very shaded - Plenty of trash cans and doggie poop bags - Lots of picnic tables and seating areas Cons: - Trails can get confusing since most maps you can’t see the “you are here” marker - Many forks in the trail make it unclear if you’re still on the main path. I just wish the paths were better labeled. I feel like I kept getting lost 😞 - I encountered many men on the paths (who look like they may be staying out there), which can feel uneasy if you’re a single woman ** I came on a Friday around 11am **

Casa Navarro State Historic Site is a Texas Colonial-style adobe home that was the residence and law office of José Antonio Navarro, a prominent figure in Texas history. Built in the 1850s, this National Historic Landmark features period furniture and copies of Navarro's writings, providing insight into the history of Texas from a Tejano's perspective.
What a terrific story. You might not have learned about José Antonio Navarro in your Texas History class, but you deserve to know it, and this house does a wonderful job of sharing it. Come and see!!

It was really nice to learn Texas history and about Navarro and his life. There were not many artifacts inside the building - mostly reading and learning about his life.

Casa Navarro State Historic Site is worth a visit. For €5 you can enter the former residence of one of the signers of the Texas constitution - Jose Antonio Navarro. The visit includes a few small buildings with very informative plaques and even audio and video displays. To start the visit, sit down in the office where you purchase your ticket and watch a short film about Señor Navarro. You can whizz through in an hour or less or take your time to read all the information , which is not only about the life of Señor Navarro but also of the history of Texas. Highly recommend

I live in San Antonio and have never been here until today. The staff was super friendly and answered all my questions that I had after I walked through. I learned a lot. There are tons of videos and a lot of interactive exhibits. I was the only one there so it was a very pleasant experience. The only thing is that a lot of the information is sort of repetitive so after a while you stop reading as you get more into the museum.

Great history experience of Texas and Mexican History! Not a big place to explore, but a lot of history to learn about this man. And it was inexpensive! Highly recommended if you're a fan of history!
Keith D — Google review
An understated and modest museum in acknowledgement to a very important San Antonio, Texas and Tejano figure. The home is well kept with two main structures for touring. The outside kitchen and the main house. There are some period pieces but mainly interpretive text panels give a rich context to Navarro’s role in Texas and Tejano history set in Laredito neighborhood of San Antonio. The signatures exhibit was an interesting nod to the use of unique touches used back in mid to late 1800s. I liked also the flag associated with Mexican independence as well as the early symbol of the eagle with the nopal. The gift shop has books and some logo items of the museum as well as some artisan items from a local shop in San Antonio. A good place to visit for San Antonio and Texas history. He was an amazing advocate for Tejanos.

Nestled in Metro Houston Street, the Buckhorn Saloon & Museum is a captivating destination that offers a blend of history and retail therapy. Founded by Albert Friedrich in 1956, this privately-owned museum showcases an impressive assortment of western-themed artifacts and objects. The Old West-themed gift store within the museum is a treasure trove for enthusiasts, featuring cowboy hats, T-shirts, Bowie knives, and various other sundries.
Had a solo-day exploring San Antonio from out of state, and I entered this place on a whim. $25 dollars for just one, which I thought was a little steep at first, but after finishing the museum, it was worth the price of admission. I’m surprised on how much I enjoyed the museum, ESPECIALLY all the unique taxidermy they had. The fact the you can order a beer or a cocktail at the start of the museum, and enjoy it while you are exploring the exhibits was a fantastic touch, and I enjoyed my experience more because of it because they allowed me to have a Blue Moon in hand (I’m hind sight, I should have ordered one of their many beers on draft) You have the chance to get up close and personal (without touching of course) to animals you’ve never known to have existed, and the plaques are to the point, and not a chore to read. They had a small exhibit that involved the circus which was a neat surprise, and the Texas Ranger museum was really something, but me not knowing their history, I couldn’t give or take that portion (sorry to all the Texas Ranger historians out there…) Finished the museum by having a late lunch. I ordered the “Cowboy Quesadilla.” Which was good.

One of a kind cowboy spot to check it out. The place is filled with look around objects and great for stop. We didn’t really eat here but took a drink at bar and the hostess was nice. But it’s a good spot to check it out if you are a tourist and in the area.

This is simply one of the "Gotta Go" places when in the area. There is simply so much to take in, from the decor, to the museum, to the great little gift shop, to the historic significance, to, last, but certainly not least... the oft overlooked deliciousness of the menu. This is simply an ideal spot to duck into for a quick refresher at the bar for your parched throat after a nice walk, or for a tasty bit of grub at lunch or for a mid-day snack. Service is impeccable all the way around. Smiles and enjoyment seem to be the order of the day for the staff, and it is infectious. You won't find much unpleasantness here... so step in, kick back, and enjoy the Buckhorn.

Had some family come into town and we were look for different things to check out downtown and this saloon came up. To be honest we didn’t know what to expect but we really did enjoy ourselves. The food/burgers was really good, the staff were friendly and helpful when purchasing our museum tickets. We took our time walking through the museums (about and hour and half) and made sure to grab a magnet to remember it by when we left. Their gift shop has some really nice Texas inspired merchandise, don’t skip it. We will go back, at least for the burgers.
Stella H — Google review
Pretty large restaurant, bar, and museum in downtown San Antonio. The saloon/restaurant is really cool, covered from top to bottom in taxidermy animals. Lots of cool history on the walls. The place also has two museums, the Buckhorn Museum and the Texas Ranger Museum. The Buckhorn Museum has a bunch of taxidermy animals and other curiosities. The sideshow exhibit was neat...but some parts of it weren't working. The Texas Ranger museum houses a nice collection of artifacts from various famous Texas Rangers, as well as a recreation of old San Antonio. A plus is that you get to carry around a beer from the bar while visiting the museums. Had lunch at the end of my visit and the food was pretty solid. There's a lot to see here and you can certainly spend a good deal of time here between the various exhibits and the food/drink. It's definitely a little tourist-trappy, but still worth a visit if you are in the downtown area.

Sad not seeing the building lit up. It's after 9pm and does not look right. Flying the American flag etiquette involves it being lit up at night. It's half staff for a dead Roman Pope but not respected to an American tradition. Sad! August, 2025 removing the American Flag to avoid fixing the lighting issue or needing money to buy a flag. Go fund me got old Glory back up! Great job!

There aren't many skyscrapers in San Antonio, and this is one which adds beauty and awe to the city's small skyline. The name of the building has changed several times over the years, but the current name has stuck for some time.

Down at 310 s.Saint Mary's youll find one of the very unique standouts of San Antonio. This building claims to be tallest in San Antonio until 1968, when the Tower of Americas was built. So they added a 100 ft flagpole that allowed them to keep their claim to fame. This building has sat majestically on the riverwalk since 1929. It also was one of the tallest buildings west of the Mississippi. Built by famous local architects Ayres and Ayres, it was a and still is a standout with its 8 sided geo gothic flair. The unique faces adorning the entrance were intended to ward off evil spirits from entering. High above you'll find gargoyles leaning off corner of the rooftops, and if you look real close while its raining, you'll see them spewing water from their mouths. One you open the door and step inside, you'll be struck with awe as you take in the beauty of mahogany and brass. Take in the unique ceiling, which has major similarities to the San Fernando Cathedral, and all the doorways are arches. The first Sears and Roebuck once consumed the lower six floors. I wanted to go in elevator to upper floor to take closeup of gargoyles and was told that public isn't allowed on upper floors due to the high end attorneys who's offices reside there.. they do allow you tno look at the elevator however. Listed in the national list of historic places. Definitely worth a short stroll inside. . Need to visit before 6pm, one of the most beautiful and memorable buildings in SA. And if ever you get turned around in San Antonio's downtown, it'll lead you back like a lighthouse in the night! Trust me, you will see! and hint! to get a close up of Gargoyles. go to the apartment building across the street and ask the nive security guard to escort you to the 14th floor ballroom. and look out the window. There, is the closest youll come, unless you have a parachute!

Ruby City serves as a platform for both established and emerging artists to showcase their innovative creations across various mediums.
Absolutely loved this art museum. The pieces were amazing and thought provoking. There were all different types of contemporary art: collages, paintings, sculptures and more. I loved the artists’ use of unconventional materials as well as the sociopolitical messages portrayed in their work. The staff was very warm and helpful. You could tell they cared about patrons having a good experience as well as preserving the art and keeping it in its best condition. There was a very relaxed atmosphere. If you have time, also check out the garden and studio across the street. Those were worth the visit as well! Best part, it was all completely free. :)

First time here. I took my daughter on a mommy daughter date and this was definitely a jewel! We super loved it very clean, beautiful, mesmerizing, great place to take pics. And we super loved their elevator even that was cool. 100% recommend.

Great hidden place with great staff! Visited during a weekday and only saw a handful of people, i wish more people knew about this place. Will come back to visit Chris Park just across the street, they do a fantastic job at maintaining both places.

Out of all the museums in San Antonio. This one is on my top five. This is a local museum hosting local artists and even other artists that come by to express their art in the gallery. The curators work hard to convey the messages of those artists and deliver!! The staff of this museum are so down to earth and really set the vibe of being apart of the community with certain events they host like the frequent yoga in the park across the street. Thank you Ruby city for this beautiful museum

Always have loved Ruby City since its inception. Contemporary arts and local features. Really cool space, can be a quick visit or take your time. Take in the arts and culture of San Antonio in this unique building. Great place for a nice date, local eateries nearby as well, great location.

I was genuinely impressed by the museum's curation. I gained new appreciation of contemporary art. The museum building and its surroundings also deepened my experience.

This museum fills a niche in San Antonio by featuring more avant garde offerings, especially from San Antonio artists. After enjoying the exhibits, make sure to walk across the street and visit their sanctuary called Chris Park.

The King William Historic District, located south of downtown San Antonio, is famous for its collection of 19th-century mansions. Originally a German settlement, the district was named after the King of Prussia. Driving through this area offers a glimpse of fabulous old houses with impressive exteriors. Visitors can also take a break to enjoy some local cuisine and refreshing drinks in the vicinity. Entry to this historic district is free, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for all.
Architectural historians will absolutely freak over this beautiful neighborhood. Many people forget that San Antonio is known not only for its Mexican settlers, but also for the sizable German population who came here in the mid 19th century. Their houses are here. Some of these gorgeous houses have been made into inns, and are some of the best lodgings in the entire city. You can stay here and still have downtown San Antonio in your back pocket.

Charming historic neighborhood built almost entirely by German immigrants. Unusual and well preserved architecture. We used GPSmyCity app for the walking tour with descriptions. It’s a short tour. We walked there by the less touristy part of the riverwalk. Very pleasant.

There are so many beautiful, historic homes in the King William Historic District neighborhood of Southtown, San Antonio. This is an absolutely lovely space to explore when you’re in SATX!! I highly recommend this neighborhood to check-out when you’re walking around in the area!! :-)

I love me some distinctive architecture and that is what I found here! I was also glad to see some restoration efforts going into some older houses as well. This section of town reminded me a lot of the Garden District in New Orleans.

SeaWorld San Antonio offers a diverse range of experiences for visitors of all ages. The park features thrilling rides, educational animal encounters, and captivating shows that highlight the wonders of the ocean. Guests can enjoy up-close interactions with dolphins, penguins, orcas, sea turtles, and reef fish while learning about marine conservation. Thrill seekers can experience exhilarating coasters like the Tidal Surge and Texas Stingray.
Hadn’t been here since I was a kid myself. Our family had a wonderful time here. The food is great with more than enough portions. It’s very well kept up and clean. Our family loved the parade and water show at the end of the day. Very nice touch. We ends up getting the meal plan which was a better option for a family of four. Otherwise, be prepared to spend some money on every meal which can add up quickly. The disappointment of our day was that two of the rides seemed to be closed and they did not know when they would open again. But there was plenty to see and shows to watch throughout the day. Definitely more than what I remembered it being when I was a kid. We ended up purchasing season tickets as we will return soon.
Richard R — Google review
Our nieces and nephew had a great time. They really enjoyed seeing the dolphins and the killer whales. The rides were fun but it seemed like the turn around for getting the rides moving tool longer than necessary. The haunted house mazes were very fun and we were glad that we didn't have to pay extra for that.
Ken S — Google review
Don’t buy the all day dine in online. They made me buy it again in person so I ended up paying twice! Still haven’t figured out how to get my refund for this double payment. They put the shows at the same time so you can only watch one and don’t have time to see the other. Don’t buy the refill cups and the all day dine in because you get drinks with the all day dine in anyways. I liked the Orcas and the giant sea turtles. I didn’t have time to see the rest. Might be worth for your kids to do the experiences to meet up close with animals. They had the Halloween theme going on. The professional photos they take at the entrance and other spots don’t show up on the QR code unless you visit some office at the park which is lame! Also they are gone the next day so you can only get the photos the day of the visit. This makes no sense. You get once a year free entry for Military families.
Ren G — Google review
It's a beautiful park, and the animals are well cared for. Howl-o-Scream is really nice too. I wish there was more time during that event and that the food options were open later so that we could actually take advantage of the All Day Dining deal. Drinks were yummy and I loved the blood bags and jello shots.

Glad I got the quick queue pass but not the all you can eat cause not one place was good chicken was mush beef was rubbery everywhere we went. But everything else was fine and dandy. Good waterproof walking shoes sunblock are gonna be needed. They were issuing reentry bracelets i noticed so next time I'm packing an ice chests with treats and sandwiches cause mine are better than the food here.
Isaac I — Google review
I absolutely loved the shows and I loved the haunted houses. The waits are kind of long. Don't recommend standing around if your heavily pregnant like me. But I suffered and managed lol because I wanted to enjoy as much as I could before our baby arrives. Nobody touches you very safe. Haunted houses not recommended for children or babies obviously. Safe enjoyable and fun for all. The shows were amazing.
Jay D — Google review
Pretty fun experience! We really enjoyed our visit. We got the food deal to get something to eat and drink every 90 minutes as we wandered the park and tried half the restaurants along the way at no extra cost. Definitely worth an all day or two day trip, we hit most of the attractions and a few rides and would definitely plan a second day next time! Kids loved the splash pad and water river ride thing.
Sophia K — Google review
SeaWorld is a shell of what it used to be. I understand that things change due to safety concerns or to help the animals, but the shows are not funny. You still get a wow, just because you are not seeing animals like this at any other location. I grew up going to San Antonio SeaWorld, and it just makes me wish I were a child again, watching and cherishing those shows and memories. Is the place worth going for free? Yes. However, I don't think I will reach too deep in my pockets to go here.

Church
Mission Concepción, established in 1755, stands as America's oldest unrestored stone church and a significant Spanish Colonial landmark. It is the best-preserved of San Antonio's missions and features a traditional cruciform floor plan. The restored interior floors showcase the church's once brightly colored exterior frescoes.
We took a wrong in traffic and found a moment to stop in at this mission. Mission conception is a beautiful experience. I'm told it's one of the only missions here in San Antonio that has not been restored. It was a great place to stop and get reacquainted with this area's deep rooted history. The visitors center and the bathrooms are clean and tidy there is also a wonderful snack area. Having been able to enter the on-site church was a wonderful experience. The stone work and paintings are a reminder of the long history of the area. And being able to take a knee to pray where so many have prayed before is an experience I recommend. Thank god for the people who have kept areas like the missions alive and available. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Please remember these pictures are nothing in comparison to the actual experience. I urge you to check out our San Antonio area Missions

Tip: if you like taking pictures, save this one for last. We went out early to avoid the afternoon heat but the morning sun doesn’t give the best pics. Something about the front of the church that’s just amazing and deserves some spotlight to make it shine. Check out the artwork on the walls too, so awesome. To note: we traveled with our dog and all the missions were pet friendly but dogs cannot enter the church or any indoor parts so bring someone with you so you can take turns going in. Be sure to remember doggy bags

Beautiful historical site, with functioning church services on weekends. A must see those interested in their heritage, the atmosphere is serene and spiritual. Truly a historical gem, there is additonal buildings to the rear that are also opened and give information about San Antonio Missions.

The fanciest of the Mission buildings remaining, if you only go to one, I would recommend this one. The architecture is stunning and there is lots of exhibits that explain the history and life of the Mission population.

Such a beautiful experience, making a pilgrimage to the four missions of San Antonio on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 2025. Got to attend mass and the viewing of the double illumination that takes place only on Aug. 15th.

Mission Concepción is a serene and beautifully preserved piece of history. The oldest unrestored stone church in the U.S., its twin bell towers and faint frescoes tell stories of devotion and craftsmanship. The atmosphere is peaceful, perfect for reflection. Highlights for me included the intricate "Eye of God" fresco and exploring the Mission Reach trail afterward. With free admission, informative signage, and welcoming rangers, it’s a must-see for anyone visiting San Antonio. A true gem blending history, faith, and art.

The DoSeum is a two-story museum in San Antonio that offers interactive exhibits and creative programs to promote learning and discovery for children. The museum features permanent fixtures like the Big Outdoors, Little Town, Spy Academy, Imagine It, and Innovation Station. Additionally, it hosts themed temporary exhibitions such as Going Places, where kids can explore concepts like gravity, design, aerodynamics, and energy efficiency through hands-on activities.
We are a very spoiled family when it comes to children's museums since our original home base one is The Indianapolis Children's Museum that is regularly rated the best in the US. I think that is vital to understand just how great the Doseum is! We had an amazing time and all 3 of my children from 18 months to 12 had a great time! The outdoor play areas truly blew my outdoorsy child away and my more musical child was so engaged with multiple musical experiences. My third child loved the tech experiences particularly with the robots. Even though it is stroller friendly, I probably wont take one in next time we go when Im in town for my specialist appointment. It stayed parked a majority of the time by choice.
Mollee N — Google review
My kiddos absolutely love it here, there's so much to do! There's H-E-B shopping, a vet clinic, there's an excavating area with lots of trucks, there's an airplane that most kids seem to really enjoy, there's even a cute little trolley for kids to pretend drive as well and then some. That's just one area on the downstairs floor! Upstairs there's a force coarse where the kiddos can shoot (soft) balls through chutes and get to understand gravity a bit more. There are plastic and wooden building blocks in a different area upstairs as well. Across the force coarse, there's a room where they get to learn about the workings of a city and space too! There's so much more, when we take the kids here they just have so much fun! 🤗

Best kids museum ever!!! I can’t speak highly enough of this amazing, interactive, well-structured, and super fun place! I’ve been taking my daughter and her cousins here for 3 years and love being a member. There are endless activities for toddlers to pre-teens to enjoy all day long. We always arrive when they first open and stay for several hours. The outdoor spaces are beautiful and so immersive, from a creek to splash in to bubbles to a massive slide and musical tree fort. The kids love the water features. The ball room upstairs and Little Town downstairs are two top favorites. The staff are wonderful and friendly. You’re allowed to bring your own food and drink inside. I love spending a full day there once a month and watching the kids light up as they have the best time playing!
Sarah C — Google review
We lived in San Antonio and were members here from 2016-2018, my son had so much fun. We brought our 5 year old daughter back today to try and recreate that fun, but we were sorely disappointed. The ball room air didn’t have enough pressure/suction/vacuum to actually work, the outdoor water play also had not nearly enough water pressure for it to work as intended. It’s like nothing has gotten better in the years, they’ve just let everything just slip into disrepair. It’s sad. I wouldn’t come back, go visit a nice park or the Pearl instead.
Evan W — Google review
The DoSeum offers a vibrant, hands-on experience that engages visitors of all ages. With friendly staff and a clean, well-organized environment, the museum provides a welcoming and enjoyable space for families to explore and learn together. Though admission may seem a bit high, the variety and quality of exhibits make it worthwhile. From sensory play, music, and bubbles to construction zones and STEM activities, there's something for everyone. A standout is the Disney-inspired “Inside Out” exhibit, which captivates both children and adults. While the water area has low pressure and the air vacuum play lacks strong suction, they remain fun and engaging. These minor issues don’t take away from the overall value. The DoSeum is a place where learning comes alive through play—an enriching destination for anyone visiting San Antonio with family or friends.

The San Antonio Fire Museum, situated near the Alamo and Riverwalk, offers a captivating journey through the 160-year history of the city's fire department. Housed in the old Central Fire Headquarters and Fire Station No.1, this museum showcases an array of exhibits including antique fire apparatus, EMS displays, historical documents and photos. Visitors can also explore vintage fire trucks and watch short videos depicting the evolution of firefighting.
Visited the fire museum yesterday and had such a great experience! The retired fire fighters working there are so nice and did a great job of showing us around the museum. Perfect for kids, my two sons loved it. Between the antique fire trucks to the kids area it was a hit for our family. I would definitely suggest visiting.

One of the things my friend and I were interested in seeing in San Antonio was this museum. We walked inside and quickly purchased our tickets to see the museum, and it was quite insightful. I have a lot of respect for firefighters and what they do, so it was fascinating learning about both the city and what these brave men and women have done for it. I also appreciated the wall honoring those who served. I would recommend this museum, and thank you to those who continue to serve and fight!

What an amazing experience for all ages! The employees retired firefighters—were so informative, patient, and great with kids. Their knowledge and passion really brought the exhibits to life. The displays were incredible, and the play area was a huge hit with the little ones. 10/10 recommend visiting fun, educational, and inspiring!

We had an amazing visit yesterday. We expected to kill 30 minutes tops by just walking around, but we're surprised that with the entrance fee, a retired fireman gave us a brief history. Juan, our guide, was so sweet and made a great connection with my husband. My husband has just started his career as a fireman, and both men served our country. As many times as we stepped away from Juan, he kept coming back with more interesting information, and we felt we've made a new friend. This was day one of our honeymoon, and he made it so special. We learned so much and got some wonderful photos. Juan is an asset to their team, and I hope we meet again someday!

What a cool little spot to hang out! If you find yourself on the East side of San Antonio and want to try some local craft beer and Whiskeys, Ranger Creek Brewing is where you want to be. I stopped in for open mic, and I was immediately impressed when I walked in the door. We were greeted by Jeff and Katey who took care of us all night, they even sang a song for us, which was great to see... they were great! The facility has a nice, clean contemporary atmosphere with plenty of local brew options to try. I recommend thier San Antonio Lager (really great beer). There is no kitchen here, but there's usually a food truck out back. Ranger is located in the hart of an industrial complex...don't let that deter you! You're going to think your GPS is leading you astray, and when you feel lost, you're probably on the right track. I can't wait to get back to try some of their Whiskey.

The only reason this is not a five-star review is because there is road construction nearby which makes reaching the site somewhat difficult otherwise this would be a five-star review. Food, other than in bags is not available.

The Hays Street Bridge, originally constructed for vehicular crossing over railroad tracks, has been restored and repurposed as a pedestrian bridge. This historic structure holds significance as a connector between downtown and the city's East Side, offering stunning views of San Antonio. Popular among runners, cyclists, photographers, and couples, the bridge provides panoramic vistas of downtown landmarks like the Tower Life Building and Bank of America Tower. It's a beloved spot for capturing photos or enjoying a tranquil evening with loved ones.
The Hays is a great spot to take pics, get engaged, relax after a long day at work, chill with friends, or ride your bike to. It's open 24/7. There are no restrooms (until the park opens underneath). The view is lovely. You can see the downtown skyline. On cooler Friday nights I enjoy setting up my hammock and listening/watching karaoke from Alamo Brewery below.

Looking for a free city view in San Antonio, we ventured to the Hays Street Bridge. While not the postcard panorama I initially imagined, it turned out to be a pretty cool and definitely memorable spot! The bridge itself is a neat piece of urban architecture, offering a unique perspective. The main drawback for our family was the parking situation. We ended up on a side where there was a noticeable presence of people experiencing homelessness, and a few in our group felt a bit uneasy. Definitely take my advice and try parking on the far side of the bridge if you go. The overall city view isn't astounding, but it's pleasant, and the bridge's charm really makes the visit worthwhile. I could easily see myself coming back for sunset or sunrise if I lived in the area.

It was beautiful.. but the homeless population is quite prominent downtown, and the entrance was surrounded. There was a mattress just there, off to the side, with someone passed out on it with his pants barely on.. I do not recommend ever going alone or with children.
Jennifer W — Google review
Love the skate park. Just don't like the location and the older men that hang around. A few homeless people asking for money and smoking weed. Not the teens, older men. It's in the heart of the homeless area of down town. They could use security at the entrances and on the bridge. But other than that it's a great skate park. Rated 4 cause of location and environment.
Cool C — Google review
Nice view of downtown San Antonio and also Alamo Beer company right underneath. You can sit on the side of the bridge and watch live bands play. It’s a small spot tucked away that not many people seem to know about. Great place for a photo shoot or just a walk. It’s lit up at night so plenty of light to navigate around.

The Alamo Cenotaph Monument is a solemn and significant structure located near the Alamo in San Antonio. It serves as a memorial to honor the men and women who bravely defended the Alamo during the legendary Battle of 1836. The granite monument bears the names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, providing a focal point for reflection and remembrance. Visitors can pay homage to these heroes before entering the Alamo, taking in its impressive size and well-kept surroundings.
The Alamo Cenotaph is a monument erected in the plaza in front of the Alamo, and was built in 1936 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo. Cenotaph means empty tomb in Greek. The names of those who died in the Battle of the Alamo are engraved on the monument.

I was wrong about it being limestone but that aside, MAN what a great thing to first see before entering the Alamo. It is BIG, like, you'll need to take four individual pictures just to get the whole darn thin in view, ridiculously well kept and since its outside easy to walk around at your leisure. There is not much to it other than that, it's a wonderful monument to those who fell and honestly should be the first or second thing you check out BEFORE even entering the Alamo! Edit: Added the four pictures I was talking about!

When in San Antonio, you must visit this historic sight. We arrived late in the day on a chilly February afternoon. Parking was an issue. in this city we have city council who seems not well educated in history and do not have respect to a culture, the Cenotaph for him become an eyesore and he want to please to certain political groups of San Antonio. They going to spent millions of dollars to move the Cenotaph away from the place where it perfectly located and that place was carefully chosen by talented artists and sculptors. These money better to spent for preserving historical buildings and monuments.

While visiting the Alamo, the you can’t miss seeing this beautiful memorial located near the front of the Alamo. (Cenotaph means an empty tomb). It commemorates the men and women who chose to defend the Alamo rather than surrender. It was designed by Italian sculptor Pompeii Coppini. Begun in 1937, it two years to complete.

The oldest Episcopal congregation in San Antonio is St. Mark's Episcopal Church, designed by Richard Upjohn. The sanctuary was not completed until 1877 due to the Civil War, but it is an impressive example of Gothic Revival architecture.
It's a beautiful church, and the lady working in the office was very helpful. We just wanted to come appreciate the architecture and some of the history. This church used to sit on the grounds of the Alamo, and began construction under Robert E. Lee. Being a history buff, I was astonished that the bell was actually constructed from a 6 pound bronze cannon from the Battle of Gonzales. Potentially THE "Come and Take it" cannon, as the other was said to be a one pounder.

St.Mark's is a wonderful church located in the heart of San Antonio. The architecture by itself would be enough of a reason just to visit, but as most churches it's the people who make this place truly special, they are warm and inviting, and consist from all walks of life. The sermons are thought provoking and inspiring, and the choir, well, heavenly. I attend this church, and I am a better person for it.

I was raised Catholic and would consider myself to be religious. St. Mark’s Episcopal follows the doctrine of the church, but is progressive with its teachings and truly exemplifies what it means to be a Christian. The music is beautiful, and comparable to what one would find at a cathedral in England! If you’re wanting a traditional service with a forward emphasis, along with gorgeous music, I would strongly recommend coming to this church!

This is the church my mother joined when we moved to San Antonio in 1985. We would continue to come and worship here for the next 8 years. It is a beautiful church.

My daughter attended the Parent's Day Out Program and loved it! The staff is amazing, caring and very loving to all the kids. I loved it when my daughter would come home and recite the Lords Prayer on her own and sing songs about Jesus! The only reason we discontinued attending was because we had to move from San Antonio. I highly recommend getting your kids involved in this program.

I know that as a member, you would expect me to be proud of St. Mark's. In May, our organ and choral master accepted a new position. It is summer and you might think that the music would fall off. To the contrary it has been lovely. We have visited old familiar hymns. It has been so spirirually fulfulling to raise our voices and sing old hymns like "Amazing Grace." I looked around and observed my community bellowing out the words without using the hymnal. Today, the preacher reminded us that it is not Christlike to be cynical. With the climate as it is today, it is easy to turn toward cynicism. We closed with another great old hymn. Each week I have left church with a heart filled with emotion and tears streaming down my cheeks. I feel closer to my community than ever before. Thank you to whom ever is planning the liturgies and music. Well done!

Museum
Yturri-Edmunds House Museum, similar to Casa Navarro, is a well-preserved historic house museum from the mid-1800s. What sets it apart is the presence of a working grist mill on its beautifully restored grounds. The museum showcases period clothing, furniture, and art within the historic home. Visitors can also enjoy guided tours of this marvelous and green historic site.
Time slows to a 19th-century cadence at the Yturri-Edmunds Historic Site, where thick adobe walls stand sentinel along the San Antonio River. This architectural survivor one of only three adobe structures remaining in the city offers a tangible connection to Texas before statehood, when Spanish merchants and Canary Islanders laid cultural foundations still evident today. The homestead sits on land once tilled for Mission Concepción. Its documented history stretches back to approximately 1730, marked by the limestone-lined Pajalache Ditch that once irrigated mission crops. But it was Manuel Yturri de Castillo, a Spanish immigrant who arrived via Mexico, who secured this parcel in 1824 through a Mexican government land grant after Spain relinquished control. The house itself, constructed between 1840 and 1860, stands as a masterclass in frontier pragmatism. Its 18-inch-thick walls provide natural insulation against Texas summers, while the particular formula for its adobe bricks reportedly incorporating goat's milk and hair speaks to the resourcefulness of early settlers. What began as a simple two-room dwelling eventually expanded as the family's prominence grew. Vicenta Yturri and husband Ernest Edmunds took ownership before their 1861 wedding at nearby Mission Concepción, initiating a family stewardship that would last nearly 140 years. Their granddaughter Ernestine, something of a Renaissance woman who played multiple instruments and painted scenes of mission life, became the property's final family custodian until her death in 1961. Today, the San Antonio Conservation Society maintains the homestead as a time capsule, furnished partially with original family pieces. The society has expanded the site's historical footprint by relocating an 1881 carriage house from the King William district and an 1855 caliche-block Postert house from downtown, creating a compound that illuminates multiple facets of early Texas life. The restored grist mill represents another layer of historical significance an operational monument to the agricultural economy that sustained early San Antonio. Painstakingly reconstructed in 1964 under the guidance of flour industry executive Ernst Schuchard, it stands as testament to the Conservation Society's commitment to functional preservation rather than mere aesthetic conservation. Despite its undeniable historical significance recognized through both National Register listing and Texas Historic Landmark designation the Yturri-Edmunds site exists somewhat in the shadow of San Antonio's more prominent Spanish colonial missions. This relative obscurity creates an intimate visitor experience for those willing to make tour arrangements. As urban development intensifies along the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River, preservationists continue deliberating how this adobe time capsule might remain relevant for future generations. For now, it stands as an authentic witness to the multicultural borderland identities that shaped Texas long before its current incarnation a small adobe footprint with an outsized historical imprint.

The Aztec Theatre in San Antonio is a renowned entertainment and event venue with a rich history dating back to 1926. The theater showcases Meso-American art and architecture, featuring intricate columns, reliefs, and artifacts for public viewing. Its unique blend of Aztec and American styles is evident throughout the venue, including the grand lobby with its impressive chandelier - reportedly the largest in Texas.
We've been to several shows at The Aztec. It's a great venue that has an "intimate" feel during shows. Orchestrate seats are usually standing room and since I'm short, we always purchase tickets on the first balcony which gives us great views! Be aware the women's restrooms are fairly small. Otherwise this is a fantastic place with unique architecture to see a show!

This is a great venue for any show. It is a small venue with great views from any seat. There seemed to be some technical issues with the microphone it was a bit muffled but the sound of the band was great! The Point is a great local band from Austin and La Lom had everyone grooving!

Such a fabulous concert venue. The old style decor of the interior sets the perfect mood for any kind of concert. We attended the Cannibal Corpse show on 10/9/2025 and had an absolute blast. I was particularly impressed with house PA system. It was totally impressive and quite deafening. Check out a show here. You won't regret doing so.

Very friendly atmosphere, great place for small venues, every seat is good (no obstructions). A little chilly with the AC but tolerable. Small selection of soft drinks, big on the booze, hot dogs until they sell out, bottomless popcorn.

I went to the aztec theater for the first time on 10/31/25 to see lamp and it was a beautiful venue with a good show. Thats all the positive things I have to say i was surprised at the door when I had unbuckle my belt because I simply had a bag? Past that I had to also give my mask up on Halloween night and who I assume was manager of security was not kind about it, he telling me to just give it up it wasn't until I had begged the 6th time for them to hold it for me that he told me I could simply check it in for 4$ but why didn't he say that at first? This venue also doesn't provide free water and they will make you pay 6$ for a bottle. The sound was also very shoddy for the first few songs and I was disappointed about it at first but they did fix it. Overall the venue was a great visit unfortunately the customer service was a stain on my experience and don't think I will be revisiting anytime soon.

Located in downtown San Antonio, St. Joseph Catholic Church is a historic and magnificent stone sanctuary built by German speakers in 1868. The church still features the Stations of the Cross in German, reflecting the city's once-largest minority group. Visitors can experience a German mass sung by the San Antonio Liederkranz on specific days. The church's stained glass windows were imported from Munich, adding to its beauty and history.
It's such a beautiful church. The building has so much character. We wanted to see the church inside, but the front door was locked, and we didn't see directions for an alternative entry. Probably because it was a weekend and not a weekday

Free exhibit about Texan Culture and early immigration influences. The building was part of the 1968 World Faire. We came on a Friday at noon and the place was nearly empty. We spent about 90 minutes looking through the exhibits. This can easily be combined with a visit to the Tower of the Americas. They welcome a donation to keep the exhibits open and help with restoration processes. Bathrooms on the premise. Wheelchair accessible.

It was a good way to spend part of a Sunday afternoon to learn about the rich culture and history of the people of Texas. There are so many exhibits ranging from Tejano, to Irish, to Chinese, to Lebanese and so many more. And that is where the challenge is. Having so many walls of personal stories and information to read with a strange proportion of artifacts/exhibits to reading makes it tough for someone with a short attention span. And some exhibits were undergoing renovation. Had high hopes as a Smithsonian affiliate but was disappointed as there were typos, flickering lights and many of the video touch screens were not working. But still learned a lot and enjoyed our time there.

This was a great place to learn all about Texas it had many cool things in it. It was quite empty we only saw about two other families in there with us, which was kind of nice. Mission San Juan, also known as Mission San Juan Capistrano, is a historic Spanish mission located along San Antonio's Mission Trail. Despite being abandoned earlier than other missions due to attacks from Apache tribes, it offers a serene glimpse into its early history. The site includes an unfinished 1780s church and ruins of various structures that are intriguing to explore.
This historical site is a peaceful and serene spot, perfect for a quiet visit. It offers plenty of parking, making it convenient for visitors. The old church on the ground is beautiful, and the surroundings are well-kept. It’s an ideal place to spend around an hour enjoying the history and tranquility.

We moved into the area a year ago and went to several churches in the area. Once I experienced Sunday mass at Mission San Juan, I knew I found my church home! It's a simple mass, not a lot of extras. I can honestly say that I feel the presence of Christ's love both in Fr. Herbert's sermon and in the people. I absolutely look forward to going to Mass. When the weather permits, Sunday service is even held outside. It's simple, yet absolutely beautiful!

Beautiful place but I like the other missions better. If you don’t have time for all of them, this is the one I’d prolly be ok cutting out. We also didn’t get to see the inside, was closed for the day due to staff cuts. The irrigation system was unique and the short 0.25 mi hike behind is paved and super easy to walk. You’ll find a little stream flowing surrounded by lush vegetation. Pretty area.

A Stroll Through San Antonio’s Changing Heart I was on assignment downtown at the Convention Center, and during a break, I decided to take a walk. I knew the whole area was in the middle of a big redevelopment, but seeing it up close made me excited for what’s coming. You can already spot a new hotel rising right next door, and who knows—maybe one day a sports arena will join the skyline. It took me back to being six years old in 1968, when San Antonio hosted the World’s Fair. Back then, the area had this dazzling, futuristic feel. Today, it’s a vibrant blend of the past and the future—apartment buildings, charming little restaurants, and playful spaces for kids. I wandered past a splash area where children laughed and played in the water while parents relaxed nearby, and I couldn’t help but smile. Once the redevelopment is finished, this place is going to be something special. But honestly, it’s already worth a visit. Whether you live here or you’re just in town, take a stroll, grab a bite at a local spot, and if you’ve got kids, let them burn some energy in one of the play areas. There are hidden gems tucked around every corner. San Antonio is changing—and it’s beautiful to watch.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Charming Return to San Antonio’s Cultural Heart I recently made a return visit to La Villita Historic Arts Village and nearby Hemisfair Plaza, and it was every bit as delightful as I remembered — with a few important notes for fellow visitors. La Villita continues to shine as a gem of San Antonio’s cultural scene. The cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and vibrant artisan shops make it feel like stepping into another time. Every shopkeeper we encountered was not only friendly but genuinely enthusiastic about sharing the history and craftsmanship behind their wares. Their warmth added a personal touch that elevated the entire experience. Parking can be a challenge (a LOT of CONSTRUCTION EVERYWHERE!) especially during weekends or events, but , with a bit of patience and a careful search, we managed to find affordable, well-lit, and secure parking within walking distance. I recommend checking side streets and smaller lots just outside the main tourist corridor. Planning ahead definitely pays off. AVOID the HOTEL (3rd party contracted) friendly, but Super Expensive Valet Parking ($65 * overnight! YIKES!) One key tip: wear comfortable walking shoes. Much of the area is best explored on foot, and between La Villita, Hemisfair Plaza, and the scenic River Walk, you’ll cover more ground than you think. Safety tip: While most of the area is lively and well-trafficked, it’s wise to stay alert — especially after dark. There are a few dimly lit, desolate spots on the outskirts where the atmosphere changes noticeably. I recommend carrying a small, bright flashlight, sticking to well-populated, well-lit areas, and avoiding secluded spaces where vulnerable or potentially unstable individuals may linger. Trust your instincts and stay aware. A special highlight of any San Antonio trip: take a boat ride on the River Walk! It’s relaxing, informative, and gives you a whole new appreciation for the city’s layout and charm. It’s the perfect way to end the day. In summary: La Villita and Hemisfair Plaza are beautiful, welcoming, and culturally rich destinations that are absolutely worth the visit, Remember the Alamo and the River Walk! . Just come prepared, stay aware, and soak in the unique energy of this historic part of San Antonio. Stay safe — and enjoy every moment!

I came to this church the morning after my 3yo son passed away in his sleep. His passing was completely unexpected. I was heartbroken and was hoping to find someone to talk to. I do not live in San Antonio; we were visiting family, and this church was by our hotel. I prayed for a while before seeking a priest. When I found one, he was so rude and basically shut the door in my face. I told him that my 3yo son died the day before and asked if I could talk to him. He told me to wait for mass and looked at me like I was just trash..not one ounce of compassion or anything. I went and sat in the church for an hour, waiting for mass. There were less than 20 people in the church. He must have walked by me 5 times and did not acknowledge me. My 7yo son and husband met me for mass but I just could not even sit through it. I have never been treated so terribly in my life. He was so dismissive, cold and cruel. I am a lifelong catholic. I was married in the church & have been raising my sons in the church. I have not been to church since this happened. In a time of desperate need this church made me feel so much worse. I have debated saying anything, but I decided to speak up in hopes that this will never happen to another grieving parent. This was June 29, 2024.

Beautiful historic catholic church across the street from the Holiday Inn that we are staying at. I was taking pictures of the outside when a couple came out of the church and suggested that I go inside to take pictures, advising me that the church was empty and open to the public. I went inside and saw how beautiful the interior was. Since there was nobody else there I took the opportunity to snap a few photographs. The history of this building is rich and as I mentioned the architecture and stained glass are beautiful: my photographs don't do it justice.

During our trip to San Antonio, we had the pleasure of visiting a truly beautiful church. From the moment we walked in, we felt a sense of peace and reverence. The architecture and atmosphere were inspiring, and it was clear that this is a place filled with deep faith and community. What made our visit even more special was the kindness of the Father, who took time to bless our children with a St. Mary pendant. It was a meaningful moment that we will always treasure, and it made our visit feel very personal and welcoming. We are so grateful for the experience and highly recommend stopping by this church if you're in the area. Whether you're visiting for Mass, prayer, or simply to admire its beauty, it's well worth your time.

St Mary's Catholic Church is a spectacular site to visit. It is a beautiful, up-kept, elegant historical church. My family gets to enjoy the church by just simply sitting there after a long walk at the river. Every sculpture and building facade was indeed enjoyable to check out.

I've stayed across the street from this church many times, but never been able to go in before now. Visited for benediction and mass. It is breathtaking inside and the liturgy was beautiful even though it was a weekday.

Refreshment of the soul is in abundant supply at this spectacularly beautiful church. Since services began in 1857 this is a place where heaven and earth meet. Romanesque outside, it is richly decorated on the inside. This unique church has a treasure trove of remarkable statues. Stay after the Mass and take the time to experience it all. Can you find St. Anthony of Padua holding the Christ child? There are many others including a life-like Mother Theresa, colorful Pieta, and more. After the riverwalk and the sight-seeing, come home to this church for spiritual renewal.

Nestled in the heart of San Antonio, VFW Post 76 stands as a testament to history, being the oldest Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Texas. This charming venue is housed in a stunning 110-year-old Victorian home that adds an air of nostalgia and intrigue—rumor has it, it's even haunted! The casual beer garden offers refreshing drinks and serves as a perfect spot for mingling with locals.
A great place to stop and have a beer or cocktail

Absolutely love it here. I've had the blessing to play here on stage with a few Tejano bands and as a DJ! So very much history and a palette of events, people and now with the new construction that has been finished with the Riverwalk, it's even better! Honoring our military servicemen and women, lots to see even just walking down to the restrooms! Full bar available to stop in and enjoy great drinks! AMI jukebox that has all genres of music and of course you can control from your phone! Whenever we get the chance, we always like to stop in! The "White House" is a must if you've never stopped in! 💥 🇺🇸

Love the people and feel of togetherness they have there. Great place for people like my husband who enjoy the company of fellow military men and women. It was good for his soul! Enjoyed meeting people at the Black Rifle Coffee gathering and live music.

I didn't stay for the live music, but even during the day and the early evening this place is nice. Almost makes me want to move to San Antonio just for this. Not even kidding. I'd love a VFW like this where I live. Just a spot to hang out with other vets and slowly drink beer. Maybe if/when I retire...
Christopher R — Google review
Although we've lived in San Antonio for over a decade after I retired from the Air Force, we've never been to this VFW until recently. A close friend and colleague decided to hold his military retirement and reception here. Since it was a Wednesday afternoon, there wasn't a lot happening on the Riverwalk but this place was fantastic. Despite the age of the building, they've done an amazing job of maintaining it. It's tucked away between apartment/condo buildings but you don't get the feeling that you're crowded. I want to extend my thanks to the staff for providing this space to all the veterans and encourage you to keep up the great work and tradition.

Awesome post!!! Definitely loved the vibe here and will come back during my next trip!
Lucy B — Google review
A great place to grab a drink and chat with the locals. The staff is very friendly. The biergarten has live music on the weekend and attracts a crowd. The location on the River Walk makes the VFW especially ideal for events. There are two large ballrooms for this purpose: one on the second floor and one in the Carriage House next to the main bldg. Only negative is that it is difficult to get ahold of the VFW Events Coordinator (always swamped). The place is booked out up to a year in advance. The VFW coordinator has contact information for catering and decorating companies, but I used other companies due to my own preference (Tim The Girl catering, Moments & Milestones photography, The Elegant Touch by Ruby for decor). I booked the upstairs ballroom for an event and it was a complete success.

If you like sitting in an active parking lot on old picnic tables, like you did with your dad at the state fair in the 80's, this is the perfect place for you. No ambiance at all. No dogs allowed, so we ended up grabbing beers next door at El Camino who were welcoming to the dogs and even brought water over to the dogs. ****Response to Owner***** We were escorted out, and asked if we could read and had post 76 policies shown to us as we were led out!!

The Maverick Carter House is a captivating historic estate that invites visitors to step back in time. Built in 1893 for William Harvey Maverick, the son of a Texas Declaration of Independence signer, this impressive three-story limestone home boasts 23 rooms filled with original details and antiques. Guided tours are available on Tuesdays and Saturdays, allowing guests to explore its charming parlors and unique features like a rounded tower and refurbished observatory—once frequented by writer Whitley Streiber during his childhood.
I attended an awesome event at this beautiful home. It is a historical treasure trove for the City of San Antonio, with a pristine interior masterfully designed and carefully preserved. Maverick Carter House is a jewel that should be top-of-the-list for anyone planning a special occasion in Downtown San Antonio.

The Pearl Brewery in San Antonio is a captivating destination that has transformed from a historic brewery founded in 1883 into a dynamic complex. It now offers an array of experiences including dining, shopping, a farmers' market, and event space. Adjacent to the expanded Riverwalk, visitors can seamlessly explore the area's cultural and culinary offerings. The mix of old and modern buildings creates an inviting atmosphere with cool art installations adding to its charm.

Sammi — Google review

Very nice atmosphere! Especially in the evenings we had a nice family oriented experience it was Mariachi Monday and it was nice! The kids also have a water splash to get wet at! Very convenient for a hot day!
