The first time I came to the DIA I was suprised to see they had a native American wing. Michigan is home to a few tribes. Was bummed to see nothing about the local tribes there. I asked a docent " you have so many local tribes one being the largest remaining tribe in the united states and there is no mention of them " is there some reason why? I know most museums repatriated a lot so injust said i think your really missing out on showcasing the art of the ojiibwe the rest of the annishinabeeg tribes. Some ofntheor art and embroidery is stunning. That was in 2023. 2025 im on public radio and I hear your opening an exhibit of a contemporary indigenous ojibwe artist? Wow. That's really cool im impressed. I love the DIA but now I really dig ya! Keep on getting better and giving me good reasons to come in. By the way their open sketch is way cool! Thank you DIA your one of a thousand reasons ill never move out of this city!

Beautiful building filled with great art and historic artifacts. Only spent 3 hours in there so I didn't get the chance To explore the whole thing, it's definitely worth another trip or 2 to really take everything in. The Cafe was super busy by the time I got hungry so I skipped it but it looks like a nice relaxing courtyard to take a break in if you're planning on spending the whole day there. The Diego Rivera mural is truly a masterpiece. Shout out the lovely Michelle at the front desk!!!

It was a dream of mine to visit this museum one day. I finally got the opportunity while visiting the University of Michigan and had some hours to kill while waiting for my flight. The access was very quick and the staff gladly took out carry on luggage and bags at the cost check so we could visit the place, something other museums don’t usually do. The place was even more magnificent than I imagined and crowds were light on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The store is also worth noting, since I collect museum catalogues I purchased one and was pleasantly surprised by the affordable prices, compared to New York or Paris, where you can find world-class museums such as this one.

I could have spent days and days here. Loved all of it. Every single piece of art. So much to take in. So many things to do, not just look at beautiful art! Workshops, preformacnes, two delicious places to eat, and an amazing gift shop that is its own art gallery. So much fun, I cant wait to go back.

I was super impressed by the museum’s wide-ranging collection—there’s so much to see! The mural in the central room really stood out. Definitely recommend listening to the guided tour for that part—it’s fascinating. The museum also has a mix of functional spaces with different styles and programs, which keeps things interesting. When you need a break, don’t miss the courtyard café—it’s one of the best I’ve seen in any museum and makes you want to linger. We happened to visit on a weekend when they were hosting a Taiwan tea culture lecture and tasting. What an incredible experience! Not only did we learn a lot about Taiwan’s rich tea traditions, but we also got to enjoy some truly amazing teas. Another highlight is the building itself. The size feels just right—not overwhelming, not underwhelming. It’s easy to navigate and still offers plenty of exhibition space.

Exceeded expectations! A very cool collection. Spent a few hours there. I especially liked the boards they had up near some of the paintings explaining what you're looking at. If limited on time I'd start on floor 2, then do floor 3, then 1. Great vibes! 20$ per person. Wayne County residents are free with ID. Bought tickets there. Parking was 8 $ nearby.

This is MOTOWN so there's not much to say because the history speaks for itself. To see and hear about the history in person was a great experience. There are plenty of facts to learn about Motown that will surprise you. To see the original items and hear the back stories is captivating. Viewing the wall with the album covers was interesting because I still have 11 of those albums. The staff was courteous and friendly. The tour guide kept you informed and interested throughout the tour. They are in the process of expanding, so it will become even more intriguing.

So I really wanted to give this place five stars however be aware that it is a very short tour and when they have accomplished their new building I am sure I will be coming back to edit. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and we definitely learned a lot. My aunt who I was there with is high functioning autistic so people sometimes dont notice and I felt like the tour guide was a little short with her. The tour I believe last less than hour and the end of it getting to walk through such an iconic studio is very cool. The gift shop is well stocked and what made this place was the knowledge of the tour guide. I feel that with out her I would have not really learned much and as I said even though she was a little short with my Aunt I will not take away from her knowledge, her enthusiam, and cadence was superb.

Pure history! highly recommended. By tickets in advance is a MUST. In 2024 i tried to walked-in 4 tickets and they were sold out!. This year 2025 i got my tickets in advance through the web site and it was easy and affordable. There are guided tours only but they give you enough time and space to walk around, enjoy the exhibits and take pictures. No videos allowed. Street park and highly get the app before your arrial time, i had luck and found a free parking spot in a nerby street. You can feel the history in this walls, it is an amazing life experience. I dont recall the name of my guide but he was so easy going, fun, entretained, the best.

Absolutely essential to visit. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. And a performer in the best possible way. Thought we knew alot but learned so much more! Also. A woman on our tour had worked there in the early 1970s. This was her first return... 2025!

Such a historical beauty! The neighborhood is well maintained. While we did not go inside, the grounds were manicured and the staff appeared to be engaged with the customers in a positive way. Side street parking is available, but there may be a short walk on a busy day. Do not park in the funeral home parking lot next door. I admire the work being put into maintaining this historical gem.

I did the tour and it was very interesting. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour interesting and fun. The history was amazing and hearing the stories brought the place to life. The grounds were well kept and really made you feel the vibe of Motown. I learned so much and would highly recommend the tour.

What a pleasant surprise! I stumbled upon a paid tour while walking through the lobby I made some inquiries and found that they do tours all day but if you take any of the tours after 4pm you get a special treat. You get to go up to the top floor which has gorgeous views all round the city. But what was really spectacular was the tour guide. He shared history of the building, of the city and of the architecture in the area. Be ready to walk and get ready to also go into the basement where you'll get to see and step inside a bank vault. Totally worth the 60 mins. I recommend the tour for anyone that's walked by this building and has always been curious about the unusual architecture. Also don't forget tip your tour guide.

The historical architecture and design are absolutely out of this world and one of a kind. The details are amazing. I suggest one go see it for oneself and take a good camera. The building is open 7 days a week, equipped with a public bathroom and there's a nice little gift shop with all things Détroit and all things Michigan.

I was thrilled to walk around inside this historic and splendid building. The paintings recorded the history and prosperity of this city. The first floor was free to visit, but we could not go upstairs.

Absolutely stunning Art Deco architecture — they call it the “Cathedral of Finance” and it’s easy to see why. The lobby is free to visit and worth every minute: colorful Pewabic tile work, massive vaulted ceilings covered in bold patterns, stained glass windows that glow when the sun hits, and the ornate metal gate with the clock at the banking hall. Great photo spot and easy to walk to from other downtown landmarks (Spirit of Detroit, The Fist, Campus Martius). If you want more history, there’s a guided “Insider’s Tour” available (~$12). 📸 Tip: Stand in the center of the lobby and shoot straight up for the best ceiling shot.

The architecture here is really impressive and I can see why it was designated as a historical landmark. If you're heading towards Hart Park its worth a stop.

A must see fabulous show of Art Deco. The railings, elevator doors, steps, windows, ceiling, clock, ..... everything perfectly done.

Trying to see all the great architecture in Michigan and decided to finally check out the Guardian Building on one of their tours. Our tour guide was fantastic, and did an amazing job of weaving the information into a story and not just robotically spitting out facts. The building itself is a marvel to behold and the details on the ceiling of the "Grand Hall" and what was done in it's construction to help control noise was very interesting. Really wish it would be possible to see it all in it's original state, but there's enough history preserved to enjoy the wonder of this amazing building.

One of the coolest theatres you'll ever go to. Amazing sound and sightlines from anywhere in the venue. We just saw Earth, Wind & Fire there on the weekend and it was awesome! I hope to be back for another show soon. 10/10.

Wife and I saw the red clay Strays there last week. I've seen about 200 + concerts in my life. In venues across a dozen states and I have to say this is the best concert venue I've ever been to. Absolutely amazing, 5 stars, we highly recommend it.

Review of the Fox Theatre – Downtown Detroit The Fox Theatre is always a stunning place to spend an evening. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful—historic, elegant, and full of character. The crowd was wonderfully diverse, with all ages represented and everything from jeans to full formalwear, which gave the night a very open, inclusive, and hip energy. The performance overall was great, and most of the sound throughout the show was solid. However, the acoustics were unexpectedly off during a few songs, which was surprising for a venue of this quality. Aside from those moments, the sound was good and the experience was well worth it. A lovely landmark and a great place to enjoy live entertainment in the heart of Detroit. Would definitely return.

Glad my father dragged me here to see this relic. The ornate architecture and sculptures alone are worth going for. I am glad the city put so much time and effort into preserving this and is still doing work.

If you've never been, add it to your list of places to go! The opulence of the Fox Theatre is a sight to behold. Truly a gem for Michigan!

Wonderful tour of an indescribable building. Wow! Every where you look the attention and detail that was built into this structure is phenomenal. The Fisher Building can not truely be appreciated without a tour. You will not regret it.

Another amazing Art Deco building with impressive metal works, mosaics, etc. There was some construction in front of the building and not many retailers inside but we went for the architecture and it was fantastic. About a 12-15 minute walk or 2 minute drive from the Motown museum.

After enjoying lunch at a nearby restaurant, we decided to walk down to the Fisher Building because we were told it's a beautiful building that we should check out. This building gave me very European vibes, like Italian ones, based on the details. The ceiling, the details, etc were great. There are various shops throughout the Fisher Building. Everything from a bookstore to a ladies store to a Born in the D shop. If you're out and about in this area, check it out. The theatre in this building also features fantastic plays, so consider that next time you're in this area. 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Another one of Detroit’s most beautiful buildings to check out. The interior architecture is stunning. There are some really nice clothing stores, gifts shops and a convenience store inside. And of course you can view what is playing at the Fisher theatre and enjoy a show. Highly recommend stopping here whether you live in Michigan or are visiting.

Such a wonderful place to spend time, shops are pricey, the free tours of the building are so rich of the history of the building, construction still on going on one entrance.

We saw Lorna Shore here tonight. For starters they had no AC so it was insanely hot even Will Ramos said it was super hot and thanked us for sticking around , everyone was talking about it from the second we got into the building. Then they charge $5 for a pure life water and I'm sure alcohol was crazy also 😆. If you buy merch plan on waiting in a long line same for the bathrooms. If you don't want to hold on to the merch you can check it in for $5 and grab it after the show. The show wasn't loud enough! Normally you can really feel the drums! It just fell flat tonight 😔. No ringing ears or muffled sound or anything. It left us feeling un-impressed honestly. Went to see I Prevail and Three Days Grace last week at Soaring Eagle and it was WAY LOUDER. I'm so confused. I wouldn't go to another show here unfortunately. Beautiful venue though. The architecture is amazing.

The Freddie Gibbs & Alchemist show was packed but the line moved quickly enough. The building is massive and it can get a bit confusing figuring out where to go as a first time guest. It was all good though once we found our balcony seats and the rest of the experience was amazing. Great view, amazing performance, and easy to exit. What more could you ask for? Worth it for sure to see an artist but try to avoid the floor seating.

Been to three concerts here! Definitely recommend sitting center-stage as you will be able to see a lot more, especially if the artist performs upstage! Great acoustics. Only one merch booth so sometimes it can take up to an hour to get to the front of the line. Beautiful historical venue.

Great place to see a show, the staff is excellent and venue is clean and well operated. Tell us the stone work on the outside of the building. They don't make em like that anymore. Stage is low so you can see the fans unobstructed.

Went to see Michael blaustein. He was so damn funny. The venue is BEAUTIFUL. Lines are long but they go fast. Had a blast. Felt safe and enjoyed my time. 3 alcoholic beverages, 2 waters and a bag of popcorn was $48 So it's definitely theater prices. But they're are larger cans.

A beautiful landmark. We haven't been here in years. We've visited when the Theatre Bizarre was held here (PLEASE bring that back!) This time around, we attended the Candlelight (Horror) Concert, which was absolutely beautiful. The set-up was breathtaking.

Took the building tour and it was super. Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. Both the history and architecture of the building was explained as well as the Freemasons and their beliefs and ceremonies. I especially appreciated the kind efforts made to accommodate my sister who uses a walker.

This statue made me feel his power and dignity. Definitely a great photo spot. However, a black guy shouted at us “Asian welcome to America” several times. That was not “the spirit of Detroit”. That was racism. Racism should not exist in front of this amazing statue.

One of Detroit’s most iconic landmarks! The big green statue sits right in front of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, and it’s free to visit. Perfect photo spot and right across the street from the Joe Louis “Fist,” so you can see both at once. What makes it even better is the vibe at Spirit Plaza right outside — today (Monday) there were food trucks lined up and a DJ spinning music, giving the whole plaza a fun block-party feel. Great place to grab a bite, relax, and soak in the energy of downtown. 📸 Perfect for pictures 🚶 Easy to reach on foot from downtown 🚗 Parking nearby (Ford Underground Garage is cheap & close) A quick stop that really captures the spirit of the city.

A nice statue that actually has a place on the attraction map of Detroit. It is photogenic, has a great location and people pass by quite often.

One of a number of things to see on our road trip, this was a challenge to find parking, but absolutely worth it. The biblical verse adds significant meaning. Nice area downtown Detroit.

This muscular man near the Detroit River is the Spirit of Detroit. It is cast bronze with a green patina that could be copper but isn't. He's 26 feet tall and was dedicated in 1958. At the time, it was the largest cast bronze statue since the Renaissance. In his left hand, he's holding a gilded sphere radiating rays, symbolizing divinity. In his right hand, a family, representing human relationships. Behind him, the marble wall is a quote from 2 Corinthians 3:17, "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." He seems to get a few people posing in front of him, mimicking his style and pose. I opted not to do that and waited to get clear pictures.

I love downtown Detroit, it's always something going on!!!

Fantastic sight to see. Very large statue. During hockey season, they dress this status with RedWings clothes. Cool. Every year they update/paint this statue. I've never seen it vandalized. Impressive. There are lights at night too. Highly Recommended!

Beautiful architecture. Amazing restoration! Love all the photos around that shows what it looked like when it was abandoned and the things they kept for display. Ground level is mainly all that was available to explore. Some of the large open areas were blocked off to walk through on the Thursday I went.

Today, after an incredible restoration, it’s been transformed into a vibrant hub for innovation, community, and culture. The architecture alone is worth the trip — historic details beautifully preserved, paired with modern spaces designed for collaboration. Beyond the visual wow factor, Michigan Central offers unique assets to both guests and the community: public gathering areas, cultural programming, tech labs, and a shared sense of pride that radiates through the building. Absolutely Beautiful Restoration! I recently did a photo shoot at the Michigan Central Station, and the experience was incredible. The building is absolutely gorgeous — beautifully redone and restored while keeping its historic character. Every detail inside and out has been brought back to life with so much care and craftsmanship. It’s amazing to see this Detroit landmark thriving again! The space is perfect not only for photography but also for events, galas, and even weddings. It’s truly a must-see location that captures both the history and the future of Detroit.

Thank you Ford for rebuilding this space in Detroit. Amazing craftsmanship. What Detroit is all built on just like all the old historic homes? This place has a elegant charm combining new with old, highly recommend. Right now the lower levels are only accessible. There is a study to kind of hang out, relax, get a drink. A hotel is coming soon. I am blown away by this place. All the history and more to come.

We have been here for several events. I love the place. It's great for performances, chess events, and food events. I suppose you could screen a movie here as well. No doubt it's magnificent and a great piece of architecture.

I recently toured the historic Michigan Central Station in Detroit. I am amazed by all the hard work that Ford put into the building to bring it back to its original state. This a must visit destination and I highly recommend the guided tour and taking a walk through Roosevelt Park in front.

This was not my first visit here. But this particular weekend was for a camping training. And the grounds were clean. We got to take a tour and hear about the history. It was a beautiful site to be along the water and wake up to that in the morning. Overall great space for large activities and camping.

Free admission to see this awesome historic fort on the waterfront. It was awesome to walk around and see the old buildings and tour the area. This was such a treat to see. We really enjoyed the tunnels and artillery room.

Went this weekend, $10 for the guided tour - would have gladly paid so much more. Our guides were so incredibly knowledgeable, kind and friendly. Could not recommend this tour enough! Loved getting time to look around and learn about the history of the fort as well as military stories from the guides themselves. Need more people to go on this tour, people and places like these are slowly going away. Loved it and will bring visiting family to go check it out.

No tickets needed. Huge campus that was eerily empty and in the ruins. Good for people who like to explore abandoned buildings. Some buildings are not safe and closed off. Disclaimers aside I personally enjoyed visiting and walked the ground without anyone around it was nice.

The paid for tour is where it is at. The gentleman who took on the tour was one hell of a historian. He explained details about its construction that helped you understand the why of certain things. Sadly the fort is falling apart and in shambles as the city does not value it history. The group behind the tours is trying to hold it all together, but that requires money the City does not wish to spend I believe their reasoning for not taking care it is "It is too militant" Yah no crap its a Fort...Duh... This could be an awesome place to hold, festivals and reenactments 4th of July and Labor day parties. Weddings etc etc etc. The old building could be turned in to restaurants, shops and businesses. But nah.... It reminds me of St Pete's FL FT Desoto, difference is they take care of that one. and it is a place of history and fun.

So much history, walking around was surreal. Nothing gory or gross. A lot of the buildings are in disrepair and you cannot go in them, but seeing and knowing the area it is amazing to see. The actual Fort was creepy but cool. Seeing where they stationed, walking through the halls they walked. Still in very good shape. The barracks are still in very good shape although at the time we were unable to enter. It's a great place to visit!

Nice space for our class reunion picnic. My son use to go here for camp yeeeeeeeears ago! Very spacious! I didn't like that security didn't even let you stand on the curb while on the phone, though you weren't even moving😐

Loved experiencing a baseball game here. Lots of restaurants and things to see around the park and less than a 10 minute drive to the tunnel if you're coming from Canada. The park itself had so many neat features from the noteworthy tiger statues to the carousel right in the middle of the food court. Seats were great and reasonably priced. We'll definitely be coming back for a ball game here.

Tigers game!! Comerica Park is a great place to take in a baseball game with something for everyone. There is a carousel and Ferris wheel for kids and those young at heart. There are plenty of bars for the over 21 crowd. It is an airy stadium that managed to stay cool in the shade despite a very warm Detroit day. Sight lines are great from every seat. They have a newer type of netting for fan protection that is more transparent and less obstructive of viewing the game. 100% recommend!

Great experience and view, while waiting for the game to start I recommend going to the Farris wheel. The seats inside the stadium are very comfortable and quality. The food is great, especially the hotdogs. Overall I recommend going and buy tickets in advance.

I have been to a few Tigers games and man I love this field! There is not a bad seat in the house and the food and drinks along with the little stores inside are so good! If you get a seat on the higher stands the bathrooms aren’t bad to get in and out of either! Overall and amazing time.

Comerica Park offers all types of venues from baseball football basketball concerts Grand events you name it this is the perfect place for so many different venues there are tons of restaurants in the area quick access to the freeway lots of stores and shopping just an amazing place

Hadn't been in about 3 years and my bf had never been! The baseball ferris wheel was a lot of fun at only 2 dollars! I wish it had a better view / view of the field ideally. There's so much to do outside of watching the game. Come prepared to over spend on food. We payed 6 dollars for bottled water. We went on August 23rd. The tigers played against the KC royals and won 4-2! Great game to watch! Go tigers!!!!🐯

When I visit Detroit, this is the building I love walking inside and also on the international riverfront. This complex of seven buildings is the most important skyscraper of the Motor City. The Renaissance Center is a Detroit landmark. I highly recommend visiting this iconic building when you visit the city, especially if you are Chevrolet (GM) fan!

Loved the city view from the 60th floor. Staff was extremely helpful. Breakfast was a cut above. Rooms are small, especially the bathrooms. But we loved the floor to ceiling, wall to wall exterior window. Amazing!

Definitely a very cool and unique building. It is definitely worth exploring the lobby and the area with all of the cool cars on display. Also having a Detroit people mover station right next to the building with a connecting tunnel is very convenient as well. I also like the very unique and futuristic architecture of the building The hotel and the restaurants in the building are also really good.

We are having such an awesome experience here! Excellent hotel right next to the river walk, and restaurants inside, including Panera. Apple Bees/iHOP is right outside and VERY reasonably priced - $13 for a plate of mashed potatoes/broccoli/chicken breast and $5 for a plate of 3 small-ish pancakes. Anyway - we are staying in room 6419 and the view is INSANE! The entire Detroit is visible from our windows and the sunset/sunrise is absolutely GORGEOUS! If you have a chance to stay at this room, or request it, you won’t regret it! There’s a restaurant on the 70? Floor that has the entire view of Detroit as well. We are dining there today and I’ll post a review if it lives up to expectations. It’s $90 per person with a $25 cancellation fee per person. Highly recommend staying at this hotel! You can see Canada from across the river too. You can even make a trip there (bring the passport, of course).

I love it! The GM Renaissance Center is truly the heartbeat of Detroit – a perfect blend of modern architecture, history, and innovation. The views of the riverfront are breathtaking, the atmosphere is vibrant, and you can feel the Motor City spirit in every corner. Whether you’re here for business, sightseeing, or just to soak in the skyline, this place captures the essence of Detroit like nowhere else. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience the real energy of the city!

A really interesting place to visit if you have the time. All of the current GM models are on the ground floor, as well as some heritage vehicles. The riverwalk is accessible through the back of the building. There are several dining options and a post office, but these tend to be closed outside of business hours. There is a restroom available. Overall very much worth checking out if you are in Detroit.

Absolutely beautiful. Me and my dad came all the way from Texas to come see the henry ford nearby and the GM RenCen, and I have no regrets at all. The view of Canada from the wintergarden is absolutely eye catching. I loved seeing GM World too as we got to get a close-up look of new GMC, Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac models. Amazing tourist attraction and place to walk around

The gift shop was extremely over priced & didn't have enough merchandise. They also changed the interactive experience of going inside a slave ship they removed the sound which I thought was so well done & elevated the exhibit. The exhibit through black history is still top notch & one of the absolute best

The museum experience felt so real, I cried 😭 I thought I could hold myself, but I couldn't. It was a great experience overall. I learnt so much. This museum holds so much history that everyone needs to learn and experience. I also visited the gift shop. The stuff were helpful and kind. I got sma few things there. Whe I visit Detroit again, I will visit this place. It was amazing ☺️☺️ Also, I spotted my country's flag 😅

Praise God, i still had the opportunity to expose my 5, 7, and 10 years old to the unfiltered truth. The building was well kept, and the staff were very professional in their presentation of the exhibitions. We arrived at about 11 am in the morning. They had an opportunity to see, touch, hear, and feel the continent of Africa. With all of its minerals, in diamonds, gold, silver, oil, uranium, platinum, and other precious metals and stones. Its agriculture products, beans, rice coffee, cocoa, and tea. However, its major commerce for 150 years was slavery. Estimated to have moved 60 million Africans to North/ South Americas, dominican Republic, Haiti. And the caribbean islands as free labor. They learned that the slave trade was set up on commerce, based between the French, British, Dutch, Spaniards, Portugal, and later the United States. They had an opportunity to see humans( men, women, and children) being captured, changed, and placed in a cell for branding, then separated by age, gender and sex as you would treat live stock.

My primarily reason to visit was the The Tuskegee Airmen: Two Victories! There is an additional fee for the section and its worth every penny. I really enjoy the section. The rest of the museum is great. The ship are was eerie but insightful. Everyone there was so welcoming and nice to chat with.

The Charles H. Wright Museum is an absolute treasure in Detroit. From the moment you walk in, the building itself is stunning, but the real impact is in the exhibits. The “And Still We Rise” exhibit takes you on a powerful journey from African civilizations through the Middle Passage, slavery, the Civil Rights Movement, and modern-day achievements. Everything is beautifully curated and presented in a way that’s both educational and emotional. The staff was warm and welcoming, and you can feel that they truly care about the mission of the museum. I left feeling moved, inspired, and grateful for the experience. This is a place everyone, NO MATTER YOUR BACKGROUND, should visit at least once!

A must see! This is a 22,000-square-foot, multi-level, interactive exhibit spanning 20+ galleries, charting the African American journey—from ancient African civilizations through the horrors of the Middle Passage, self-emancipation, the Underground Railroad, Civil Rights Movement, and into modern-day Detroit. with an abundance of information! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's a beautiful island park with amazing views of Canada, the Detroit River and skyline. There’s something for everyone. They have walking trails, picnic spots, a beach, aquarium, a huge playground, food trucks , and even a historic fountain. P.S. Don’t try the lemonade from this place it was NASTY!

Reasons why it's five stars: • The aquarium, we'll taken care of aquatic life. Clean, free, and informative. • Plant life, the green houses are beautiful well taken care of. I believe it is all volunteer based so that is even nicer. • I didn't use the bathrooms but just like any public bathrooms, I'm sure they are a hit or a miss. • Lots of walking, bike riding, picnic areas. Pretty buildings, ponds, and nature. Worth a check out. Will go again!

This place has so much potential to be a 5 star location but it appears to be so neglected. No good clean working restrooms. Lots of trash everywhere and some of the people there had loud music. We wanted to relax by the water and enjoy the good weather but it was impossible.

Always a fun experience so relaxing. The sand the water are so relaxing as well. Me and my family try to come here as many times as possible. Perfect place to grill and enjoy family time. With plenty of grills and picnic areas. Definitely recommend for anyone to come and relax. Definitely need to come back again. Watching the sunset here is AMAZING 😍 ☀️

A big island with lots of activities to do and experience including a conservatory, aquarium, boathouse, fishing, beach and a light house at the other end of the island. We didn't have time to do most of the acitivities which are fun and free

We had a picnic and went to the arboretum as an activity for my work, it was beautiful! We will go again and grill something next time. Also good for a bus tour on rainy days, that's what we did last time we went lol

Outstanding museum for a trip down memory lane or to get acquainted with Detroit history. Exhibits cover everything from native American inhabitants, the founding,and right up through modern times. I especially loved the music section, highlights all the things invented in Detroit. You'll need a couple of hours to see everything, and entree costs are budget friendly. Neat gift shop too.

This place is a hidden jem. The museum is located across the DIA museum, and I'm surprised by how I've seem to have missed this place. The DHM teaches you about the history of Detroit, and how we came about to be. This museum is HUGE, so go with a clear mind, a well fed belly and your walking shoes lol. There's many interactive stations for kids and parents and the museum did NOT forget a single point of Detroit's history. I 10/10 recommend going here when you're in the area alone or with your family!

What a fantastic museum! Although some of the reviewers complain about the aged displays, this museum is a gem within Detroit. It houses thousands upon thousands of items and displays, with some amazing things I’ve never seen before. It’s a must visit if you’re in the area!!! 👏🏻

I would have to say this is by far one of my favorite museums!! There is so much of Detroit's history on display. Maybe it's not as exciting for everyone who has not lived in Michigan their whole life. Everything at this museum is so relevant and brings back some nostalgia when it comes to when certain companies really made a name for themselves or even started doing business for that matter. I highly recommend you check this place out if you love history, but even more so if you were born and raised somewhere around the Detroit area!! They had a nice little event going on outside during our visit as well.

Beautiful accessible relaxing ! This view is from what I think used to be the beach bar/ restaurant. It’s a great place to sit. The food options are limited but we had a delicious plate of pulled pork nachos(fake cheese but so good) and a salad with all kinds of good stuff in it- can’t remember the name- it’s a little pricey for the quality of food and service but you could sit there all day and just look out the window and enjoy! so it’s kind of worth it. We enjoyed our time there.

Love this place whatever the time of year. The maintenance crew is awesome, the space is ever changing throughout the year to compliment the seasons. It’s a great place for people watching, taking a break from work or hanging out on a date, with friends or family…whatever the occasion. Centered around restaurants, food trucks and bars. It’s a very beautiful and welcoming outdoor space that I frequent a lot when coming downtown.

It is truly a great sight in a very comfortable area. Additionally, my brother proposed to his now wife here two years ago. It holds beautiful memories.

The Grand Army of the Republic Building has a façade that appears to be made out of sandstone.  The building has aged nicely.  At one point, apparently, it was becoming just another derelict structure in downtown Detroit but the city is building once again.  This building is well situated, was well made and is historically important as it was only built as a tribute to members of the Grand Army of the Republic (the victorious Union forces in the American Civil War) but was built and used by them. At this time there are a couple of clubs and restaurants on the first floor.  It looks like office space is available upstairs so if you or someone you know is looking for a great place to run their business from – come a runnin’! In the lobby there is a very nice, though sparse, tribute to the Grand Army of the Republic.  You can’t miss the tile floor with the GAR symbol on it.  While cruising past check out the first floor staircase and the classic carved wooden pineapple on the top of the stairway post.  What art!

Decent food... a bit overpriced. Good atmosphere. Location is great, limited food choices, menu tends to change. Good drinks.

It's been a long time since I been there. Was a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is a lot to take in. Not so many hands on stuff for kids tho. If you have a hard standing or walking a long time there are benches everywhere. Everything is very detailed and descriptive. I would go back in the futer. If you are considering this for a family trip or if you are coming in from out of state I highly recommend coming here and checking out it. Also if you want something like a novilty they have machines that make wax molds of cars etc.

I could have spent five or six hours here. There is so much going on from presidential cars to race cars, the bus Rosa Parks was on to the chair Lincoln was shot in. This is truly a museum of innovation, not just about Ford. If we would have had time I would have spent the time to go to the Ford Rouge plant that assembles Ford F-150s. That takes about two hours. Nearby you have the race car hall of fame. Outside of having a ton of information its just a very elegant building. Its classy enough to be an art museum and some of these pieces are definitely that. Its a must stop in Detroit.

We went to the Henry Ford Museum on my birthday and it was a great experience. Going in, I thought my wife would be bored from it, but she absolutely loved it. There were items from different eras of Americana. We decided on doing the indoor museum upon the threat of rain. I was thinking we'd other be there for a couple hours at most, as we don't dive deep into reading everything, but we literally left at closing. There was JFK's car, trains, old machinery, furniture, Abraham Lincoln's chair, and the actual bus that Rosa Parks sat on. Sitting in her seat, I reflected on how she must have felt. We learned so much. We also ate at the diner that was near the entrance. It was very affordable. I've been here 20 yesrs ago with my father and so much has changed and added. We can't wait to come back for the outdoor museum.

We absolutely love this place! There is something for everyone. They have the museum located indoors that has many great exhibits. Lots of hands on activities for kids. There’s also special events that come to the museum. In addition to the museum there’s the outside village (does require additional ticket) that you can walk around. I highly recommend getting a ride pass so you can ride all of the rides (train, carousel, model T) without worrying to buy additional tickets! Custard is a must!!

This is a must to visit museum. So much historic items. Plan to be here all day. There are clean restrooms, restaurants to eat at and easy to walk around. Fun Fun Fun. You will enjoy every turn you make. Henry Ford did things awesome when.it comes to preserving historic items.

Great piece of automotive history!! The tour guide was very knowledgeable about everything on the tour. Highly recommend attending a guided tour time. Awesome vehicle collection and historic cars. As a grandchild of a model T collector it really made me feel like I was closer to my grandfather. I felt like her was visiting with me.

What a very cool experience. Blast from the past. I really enjoyed seeing many cars that put the WORLD on wheels. The staff was friendly and very helpful. I met Megan, who is a very young volunteer. It was a pleasure talking about cars and learning from each other. I had the opportunity to bring my FORD 1964 THUNDERBIRD "DIRTY REDD." I'm so glad we save this historical building for everyone can see. 👍

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this museum! I took the tour with an actual tour guide, which I highly recommend. Our guide was a retired Ford engineer, so we had a lot of fun and learned a lot. It is also an option to explore on your own. While I was there they were setting up for a wedding that was happening later in the day. I can see how fun it would be to have your wedding there.

This was a very unexpected and pleasant experience right here in Detroit! I love old cars. Take the docent narrated tour. Very informative. It was a bit hot , so bring a personal fan or towel. Also lots of stairs!

Tom was a great tour guide. The plant tour is obviously about the Model T but it's so much more than that. Its about the history of ford and other car brands with 65 cars to view. A great experience.

Great museum with dozens of original antique cars, both Ford and competitors' makes. I took the tour with Tom, who was fantastic! Informative and highly entertaining!

This was GREAT! It is not wheelchair accessible because you need to walk to the second floor, but once you are up is is really great. I am a car guy so it was awesome to see where the model T was started and to see the cars... Lots of cars!!!

Provocative in its essential odd chaos yet intentional piles. Both deeply sad as poverty and waste and junk is revealed in these few blocks, right beside proud ND clean yet worn down houses and carefully kept empty lots. Wish for more funding and hope thre is more vibrant connection in this neighborhood. Emptiness is flat yet resilience also evident. Hope that artist and mentors find themselves in this space.

This shouldn't be listed under museums in the area! It's nothing you should go see on your own and is in a very scary area of Detroit. We did not get out of our vehicle and wouldn't suggest anyone to. It was quite the scene...like out of a horror movie. The idea of it was interesting and the artist had good intentions but ....it's not a museum and should not be misleading ppl to go there.

Really interesting art installation inspiring people to make positive changes in their environment. However small they may be, the cumulative effect will eventually make an impact for the greater good.

My family and I absolutely love Heidelberg. It's a quirky place to visit that doesn't cost anything. Started by Tyree Guyton to bring Detroit back to life when it was going through hard times. We have been going there for years and have always enjoyed seeing the new creations. Our most recent visit Mr. Guyton happened to be there and he was so friendly. He took pictures with us and allowed me to paint a polka dot on the street. It was definitely a moment to remember. A few years ago my cousin did a documentary on it for his entrance into college making films. This place is truly a Detroit hidden gem and a work of art. It will always have a place in our hearts.

Really enjoyed how open this display was - that you could just walk up to and around the collection. Weather and time hasn't been overly kind to pieces, but popping by this and the murals nearby while you're in the island view neighborhood is definitely worth a stop.

The Heidiberg Project was such a sight to see! There were so many amazing and creative pieces, and we even got the chance to meet the artist himself. He was so down-to-earth and took the time to answer all our questions. I even bought his picture book and got it signed, which made the experience even more special. If you’re an artist yourself, I highly recommend visiting. I would also encourage donating, as this place is constantly working to improve and grow for the better.

Attended a private tour, but anyone can walk through the project. It is very interesting. It may have a profound effect on your emotions with mixture of joy, sad, disgust, anger, relief, and hope.

Visiting the African American Festival with my family. It was very nice the way it was set up. The poet knowledge had a great performance. The music was even better. I'm so happy to see the fountain going with lights 😍

I love to come walk here in the morning and watch the sunrise and listen to the water. Very intriguing and a must see if you ever visit downtown Detroit. Super relaxing in the mornings.

I visited an EXCELLENT vendor truck, CHEF 3059. I know Chef Dameka personally and her food is AWWWWESOME. Her truck and food are compliant and delish. She's clean and her staff is friendly, professional and timely with orders. Next time you're near HUNTINGTON also known as Cobo Hall, check out her food menu. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her fried Catfish and Chicken Wing dinners. They're well worth the money. You won't be disappointed.

Went to the African World Festival there. Lots of vendors selling a multitude of things and many great food options to choose from. Also, live entertainment. It was a great summertime outing.

Wonderful public space on the river downtown. Lots of upgrades and renovations done. Really miss the Pyramid Stage home of some of my fondest memories of the Detroit Jazz Festival.

This place is such a vibe. Everyone was nice and pleasant. The event i attended was awesome. Will love to visit again.

I thought that the most interesting thing to do in Detroit would be visiting motor museums because of the name “motor city”, however, the river walk around this area had a lot of fun. This fountain park had a beautiful view of Detroit city and Canada across the river. There were many people who playing skateboarding at this park. The weather was pretty hot in August. We took a rest here and cooled down standing in front of this fountain with heavy water flow. Definitely a signature landmark of Detroit to take pictures and enjoy the view. The city landscape here reminds me of that at Millennium Park, Chicago.

This is another great well-preserved historic building in downtown Detroit. If you like architecture and old buildings, it is definitely worth visiting this building while in Detroit. It is extremely accessible and easy to get to since it's right near a people mover station.

Rude security guard. We walked in and were told to not even try to take a picture. We had just walked in. He said he saw us taking a picture of the outside of the building. We walked in another entrance and politely asked the security guard what the building housed. He replied law offices, court info, and a few dental practices. He was way nicer than the other guard. Building was cool ish due to the marble work. But not as impressive as the guardian IMO building walking distance.

I had a good experience other than being stuck on the elevator, but we were rescued right away thanks to security and everyone that were helpful. Very nice people there.

Beautiful Building. Amazing architecture. So much history and stories I have been told about inside the building on different floors and the well known stars who have frequented it over the years. The office spaces are very nice, spacious, has an amazing energy being inside the 3rd tallest building Downtown Detroit. If anyone is looking to rent out an office space downtown, I would definetly recommend the Penobscot Building.

Quick, memorable stop that really captures Detroit’s spirit.

“The Fist” was pretty cool to stop by. “The Spirit of Detroit” is just a few feet away. A lot of construction happening in the area. Regardless, a must-visit!

The Fist represents the power and ability of all the great Detroit people. However, a black guy shouted at us “Asian welcome to America” several times. That was not “the spirit of Detroit”. That was racism. Racism should not exist at Downtown Detroit.

"The Fist" is a sculpture tribute to the great legendary boxer Joe Louis, well known as the "Brown Bomber." A gift from the Sports Illustrated magazine to the people of the City of Detroit, it was installed near Hart Plaza in 1986. The 24-foot-long bronze forearm and clenched fist is suspended from a 24-foot-high pyramidal frame and weights an amazing 8000 pounds! Joe Louis was World Heavyweight Champion from 1937 to 1949. His 1938 victory over German boxer Max Schmeling was seen as a symbolic blow to Nazi ideology. There might be other "Fist" monuments in the world. This one is the best.

While in Detroit I had to visit this art piece tribute to Joe Louis for a photo because… well, I’m a tourist and that’s what tourists do. I went late in the evening so no crowds at all. I was disappointed there was no plaque or description of this sculpture (or at least nothing I could find). Those without prior knowledge would just view this as a fist sculpture with no understanding of what/who it represents. The park south of this sculpture was closed, I think it is being renovated.

My wife and I took our daughter here yesterday, and we drive all the way down from Traverse. They had a pretty cool Science show, plenty of activities and a game area my daughter loved. All in all the trip was worth it as she did have a blast. The only reason we listed as 4 stars instead of 5 is that there was unfortunately several things closed off at the time and or just not working. That’s said it wasn’t anything to the point where it would prevent me from returning and this really is a nice place to bring the kids. The game area was a nice way to finish up the visit and we especially liked the giant chess and connect games.

Detroit's premier interactive science center! Suitable for all ages! Very recognizable with its dome and unique architecture, the Michigan Science Center puts a emphasis on learning and interaction! Wind, water, automotive and much more on display for you to learn and play with! Very family friendly and family oriented! Come spend an afternoon at the Michigan Science Center!

Oh my goodness — I am so excited to write this review! I used to come here back when it was the Detroit Science Center in the 90s, and walking in brought back so many nostalgic memories. The lights above the escalator coming out of the movie theater are exactly the same — it instantly took me back to my childhood. I hadn’t been to the Science Center in 30 years, and I had such a wonderful time. The experience was both fun and educational. I loved how many staff members were actively engaging with the kids — teaching them, helping them make crafts, and answering questions. There were so many great areas to explore — from the cave exhibits to the educational zones — and we spent hours there without ever getting bored. I even decided to become a member because we enjoyed it so much! The only reason I took off one star is because the Halloween light show was a bit of a letdown. We ended up leaving early, and honestly, it wasn’t worth the extra $3 in my opinion. Other than that small hiccup, everything else was fantastic. A solid 4 out of 5 stars — and I’ll definitely be back!

I grew up taking field trips here but the quality has gone down. I was pretty surprised that a lot of the exhibits were not maintained. A few exhibits were of space and planets, but we could not enjoy some of the exhibits because the screens were not working. They do have an interactive play area for kids under 6 in the lower level. This included a water table, costume area, and small bunk bed room. While this was pretty neat, again there were signs of needing maintenance. The area for the toddlers had a very musty smell and after hanging around there for 20 minutes, I felt like I need to disinfect myself.

From interactive exhibits and live science demos to the planetarium and IMAX theater, there’s something for everyone. The staff are friendly and passionate, making learning exciting and approachable. A must-visit for families, students, and anyone who loves exploring how the world works. I always take my nieces and nephews, but sometimes my husband and I go solo for the IMAX shows!

Fantastic birthday party! Our 6 YO and 5 of his friends had a fantastic day at the Michigan Science Center for his birthday. So much for the kids to do and appealing to a wide variety of interests. The staff was so helpful from party reservation to the activities to the science demonstration. Party room is a great size and our guests were able to enjoy the center even after the party was over. Highly recommend.

Me and my son had so much fun at the science center. He's 5 and loved interacting with all the different exhibits. I definitely recommend bringing your curious kids. There's a lot of paid parking and art museums in walking distance.

So, so pretty. So many different plants and views. They also have koi fish! Honestly, a must stop if you're near Belle Isle. There's so much to see on the island, and if you get the yearly recreational pass when renewing your car tag, not only can you enter any national park, you can go here everyday without having to pay for entrance! Great deal for a great experience.

Enough to see that it's worth the trip. Not so overwhelming that you need a lot of time to enjoy it. It's well-maintained and you'll see a lot of tropical mainstays beautifully arranged so they are neither sparse nor overgrown. Cash donations are accepted.

If you’re even remotely into plants, the Belle Isle Conservatory is a must-visit. It’s like stepping into a living, breathing jungle—with something beautiful and unexpected around every corner. One of the highlights for me was the hot cactus area—a sun-soaked, desert-inspired room filled with all shapes and sizes of succulents and cacti. It’s like a little slice of the Southwest tucked away indoors. Then there’s the fern room, which is absolutely magical. Cool, misty, and lush—it feels like walking through an ancient forest. The variety of tropical plants is also impressive; towering palms, bright exotic flowers, and giant leaves you’ll want to snap a photo with. Pro tip: it gets hot and humid in some areas (especially the tropical sections), so definitely bring a handheld fan or dress light! Whether you’re a plant enthusiast, a nature photographer, or just looking for a peaceful place to wander, this spot is a breath of fresh, green air. 🌱

What a gorgeous conservatory! Decent size, lots of different plants. The ground around were also beautiful. Was a little crowded but didn't deter from experience.

Kind of small. Its definitely worth checking out, but there were so many wedding photographers that it was lowkey crazy. I think it would be better to visit during a week day rather than the weekend (especially if you're not from detroit.) It is a very nice place though, and it is fine to check out if you're in Detroit. I wouldn't make my entire trip set for this place though. It takes less than 30 mins to explore the entire area, so it would be helpful if you have another place or even planned after visiting.

Honestly liked this place way more than I thought it would. Tons of plants and flowers from a bunch of different biomes. Especially liked the cacti, really cool. They also have a scavenger hunt for kids so that's a plus to get them interested.

Well-maintained conservatory with a section on various plants, a section on cacti, a section where people go for photo ops and a koi pond. Clean and well-staffed. Took us about 25 minutes to see it all. There's a garden outside the building as well.

Always wanted to visit. Museum upstairs is small but free and lovely to visit. Large gift shop with mix of stuff but you can get a piece of history for a lot of your money but you know you want it.

First time visiting this lovely place. I was very overwhelmed by the beauty of Artwork of pottery made it in the heart of Detroit. I took home two pieces and sure I will be back for more.

Authentic. Over 100 years of artistic innovation and original craftsmanship in Detroit. The glazes on Pewabic Pottery and tiles are unmatched in the world. A true Detroit story of style and design unmatched in history. Do I exaggerate? No. Go to Pewabic and see for yourself! Even if you disagree you will likely enjoy your visit. I think my favorite thing was being there over the Christmas holidays and the holiday events that they hosted.

Located on the East side of Detroit,Pewabic is one of the oldest operating potteries in the country and is operating out of a National Historic Landmark studio. Known for their indescent glazed..many of which are on display in their museum which is located above the working studio and is free admission. They have a nice gift shop selling many original pieces from local artists Definitely a must stop when visiting Detroit.

I have been a pottery collector for many years. Pewabic pottery is legendary. The museum/ shop has wonderful pieces on display,and tells the history of the company. There is also an area that features incredible local artists and their pieces for sale. No entrance fee.

Staff was extremely helpful. Very clean and illuminated from natural lighting. Great olace to have a ceremonial experience for any occasion.

Wonderful student center and conference space but it was about 50 degrees inside and made for the single coldest conference experience I have ever had. The organizing staff called more than 30 people but we couldn't get it warmer.

Attended the American Society of Hematology conference in December 2018. The place is huge, very well built. Great ocean view from the balconies. Loved the kids daycare for my boys, I didn't know if it's a part of the convention center or a business by itself. They have several screens for larger halls.

The tarnish of time has not worn complete the spirit of Motown, the Motor City, the American dream. Nostalgia for remembrance of what was is encapsulated within the beauty of this marvel.

Just an absolutely beautiful building!!

This classic building is the Wayne County Building and is an architectural gem. It once served as the county's courthouse and administrative center, though those functions have since been moved elsewhere. Construction began in in 1897 and after much scandal and even a grand jury investigation, it completed in 1902. It features 18 courtrooms and 145 rooms that hosted public hearings and many county departments. It was designed by John and Arthur Scott who managed to blend Roman Baroque Revival, Beaux-Arts, and Neoclassical styles. The top of the building features a tower (totaling 247 feet tall) and four-horse chariots that represent both Victory and Progress. Other sculptures by J. Massey Rhind represent Law, Commerce, Agriculture and Mechanics. A lot has changed in Detroit since 1902 (Progress, yes. Victory, not so much) and after a number of renovations and updates, the building mostly sits vacant. I would love to have toured the interior - photos show that it is magnificent with mahogany, marble and mosaics.

Bell Isle Aquarium is a really pretty little spot for anyone who loves aquatic life. Entrance is free, though donations are encouraged to help keep it that way, and the staff are super nice and welcoming. The green tiles inside is beautiful, and it feels huge when you walk in. That said, the fishes are beautiful, and it’s a peaceful experience just admiring them. It can get a bit crowded since it’s free, and it tends to get warm inside, but they have fans blowing and overall it’s a charming little aquarium worth visiting if you’re in the area.

It was wonderful and fun to see the Halloween decoration inside the fish tanks! Very clean , the staff friendly . Lots of species with information of each one. Even the aquarium is small they have a wide variety of species . I plan to visit again soon.

Beautiful historical aquarium. Walking through the incredible architecture and the green tiled ceiling makes you feel like you’re underwater. It’s a small little aquarium which is perfectly paired with the conservatory next door. Easy to stroll through quickly or take your time. Nice and accessible to all abilities. Free with a DNR pass. Lots of local types of fish.

What really stands out is the beautiful historic architecture—from the vaulted ceilings to the tiled walls, you can feel the history in every corner. It feels like stepping back in time while surrounded by colorful fish from all over, and new exhibits that are in the works. While the aquarium isn’t huge, the exhibits are thoughtfully arranged and well-maintained. There’s a nice mix of freshwater and saltwater species, and it’s easy to navigate without feeling overwhelmed. Heads up: it can get pretty warm inside, especially on hot days, so bring a handheld fan or a cold drink to stay cool. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s absolutely worth the stop for a peaceful stroll and a glimpse into Detroit’s aquatic and architectural past.

The Belle Isle Aquarium was such a neat experience and is actually one of the oldest aquariums! You can walk through it in about an hour, and they have an impressive variety of fish, including the largest air-breathing fish collection. It’s a great spot for families or friends to explore. Outside, there's a cute gift shop, picnic tables, and even food trucks, plus the surrounding nature makes it extra enjoyable. Bathrooms are located outside, and the nearby conservatory is definitely worth a visit too.

Created by artist Ed Dwight and unveiled in 2001, the memorial features a dramatic bronze tableau of eight freedom seekers and conductor George DeBaptiste, pointing toward Canada. It symbolizes hope, resistance, and the perilous journey to liberation across the Detroit River. The 10-by-12-foot bronze sculpture also includes quilt square engravings referencing the myth of "freedom quilts" and a lantern motif etched into the base. The memorial honors the diverse coalition - African Americans, white allies, and Native Americans - who helped thousands escape slavery, and it marks Detroit’s historic code name in the Underground Railroad: Midnight Created by Ed Dwight, a renowned sculptor known for memorializing African American history, it was unveiled on October 20, 2001 as part of Detroit’s tricentennial celebration. On the Canadian side, Windsor hosts a companion sculpture called Tower of Freedom, also by Ed Dwight, reinforcing the shared legacy of resistance and refuge between the two cities. Maybe next time, I'll cross over and check it out.

Until Emancipation, Detroit and the Detroit River community served as the gateway to freedom for thousands of African American people escaping enslavement. Detroit was one of the largest terminals of the Underground Railroad, a network of abolitionists aiding enslaved people seeking freedom. Why was Detroit so important to the Underground Railroad? Detroit was a pivotal part of the Underground Railroad, an informal network of safe houses and people willing to help runaway enslaved people. They adapted the language of the railroads to keep it secret. Detroit. The last stop along the Underground Railroad in Michigan before freedom seekers made it to Canada was Detroit. Over 50,000 people traveled through Detroit, or “midnight” as it was referred to in the mid 1800s. As such, there are many “stations” and historic sites to check out in Detroit. The Underground Railroad was an early 1800s to 1865 secret network of financial, spiritual, and material aid for formerly enslaved people on their path from plantations in the American South to freedom in Canada. Freedom seekers generally made their way on foot, often at night, from one town to the next. The next time you visit this place just think through the whole scenario of dark ages and you will understand the importance of these statues.

Came across this interesting installation while walking along the Detroit Riverwalk. The monument has a bunch of hopeful people looking towards Canada. It was not until reading the website compiled by a couple of retired professors at University of Michigan did I learn about the existence of the route for Underground Railroad through Detroit. A really good reminder that America once went through dark and oppressive times, and as long as we all do our little part to help others, things will change for the better.

Belle Isle is a beautiful Michigan State Park located on the waterfront of the Detroit River. Since the state took it over the improvements are amazing. Be sure to visit the Belle Isle Aquarium and the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory. If you haven't been there in the last few years, it's a beautiful day trip. You need a Michigan State Park pass for entry.

This was a great place for a picnic with a large group of people. We found the pavilion and started the party. The weather was beautiful even though a little windy, it was a fantastic view!! People could mingle and meet people. Our event was catered and picnic tables were nearby to sit down and enjoy the meal. It was a very special place for a very special occasion!!

If I come back to Detroit THIS is where I intend to come. A Detroit must-see. Come prepared to pay $11 for the day or pay a yearly fee closer to $40-50--Which is well worth it if you are close. Parking can be different, and not ideal if you have mobility issues but unclear what more can be done. Bathrooms are widespread and also not the cleanest. Recommend to come early. Another place I would love to cycle It is wild to notice the difference in American architecture compared to Canadian....

Always wanted to go there but a little bit underwhelmed, we must’ve came on a bad day because the grass was overgrown and looked a little sad. We found a paved trail and walked to the lighthouse. The water was beautiful.!

Ever since the state has taken over the island, it has been clean, ongoing improvements and most importantly safe again. It is a great place to enjoy walking, gathering, swimming or biking with your family and friends.

The Detroit Riverwalk is such a treasure! 🌆🌊 Whether you’re walking, jogging, biking, or just relaxing, the views of the river and skyline are gorgeous. The path is well-maintained, clean, and feels safe. Along the way there are playgrounds for kids, parks, splash pads, and plenty of spots to sit and take in the scenery. It’s family-friendly, peaceful, and full of energy all at once. Truly one of the best places to experience Detroit!

The Detroit Riverwalk is honestly one of the coolest riverwalks I’ve ever been to. Stretching along the waterfront with views of both the Detroit skyline and Canada across the river, it makes for such a beautiful walk. The path is clean, well-kept, and full of spots to stop, sit, and take it all in. There are family-friendly touches like playgrounds, splash areas, and even a carousel, plus it’s easy to walk, jog, or bike along. What made it extra special during my visit was the energy — being right across from Canada, I got to catch some of the excitement of a game-day tailgate party happening that day. It really gave the area a fun, electric vibe that added to the already lively atmosphere. It can get a little busy in places, especially where walkers, bikers, and scooters share the same space, but that just shows how popular it is. During the day it feels safe and welcoming, though I’d probably stick to daylight hours if visiting alone. Overall, the Detroit Riverwalk is a must-see — a perfect mix of relaxation, scenery, and big-city energy. Whether you’re out for a peaceful stroll or soaking in the tailgate buzz, it’s a highlight of Detroit.

On our Girls Trip to Detroit, we had to stop by the Detroit Riverwalk. Lots of friendly people from Detroit and other cities. The view was very nice! It was a clear day, so we were able to see the Canadian flag, and took some great pictures. We went later in the day, so there was not much going on. There was a group playing "bongos," so we brushed up on our African dancing! 🤣 Detroit Riverwalk is a must see!

Not a lot to do. Nice views from both sides of the river. Couple playgrounds for kids to play. Several places to stop in. Liked the GM building, cool seeing some cars I've never seen before. There is a BurgerKing inside.

This is a very nice park. It's very long along the Detroit River with a direct view into Windsor, Ontario. There are nice areas to sit and take a break, a wide walking path, interesting information about the history of the area, and art installations along it. Many people were walking up and down the path all day while I was there.

A perfect spot to enjoy beautiful scenery while walking along the river. You can also rent a scooter for a fun ride. From here, you can see the Canadian flags across the river — only a bridge and the water separate the USA and Canada.

I took a peaceful stroll up and down the Riverwalk 3 nights in a row. The serenity of my walk was not interrupted by the vehicle driving by on the other side of the buildings. Families, couples, and individuals were sharing lower temperatures and a slight breeze. The views of a large American metropolitan city are juxtaposed with the small town scene of Windsor.

Unique experience. Amazing personnel. Bit of a maze to navigate. Awesome views of downtown skyline, stadiums and more.

Beautiful building with classic design. Top floor restaurant was amazing overlooking the baseball field. The food was excellent! Crispy calamari and the pizza was perfect.

Went there for engine's and ice cream event for kids and my son had a great time, they had snacks, toys, bubbles, ice cream, and all different trucks from Detroit bomb squad to ambulances. It was a very nice experience but mostly I enjoyed the staff, they were so friendly and went out of their way to help with pictures and any other needs we had. My son and I really enjoyed this experience.

I had a great time at Maria's baby shower at Detroit Athletic Club and enjoyed catching up with Linda, Kelsey, Brian and Maria and seeing Maria's friends as well!!

My boss, Ralph Marco took me here once. I couldn't go in the gentleman's room, but he took me in another room where we had cocktails and talked to business men from Detroit. Loved it.

Great selection of apparel and merch. Very creative. Atmosphere is phenomenal. Record stores around the area need to come take notes about how to create a wonderful atmosphere. The behind the scenes tour was fantastic. Highly recommend for people to partake in that when they get a chance. Learning about the process and partaking in the immersive experience was great. If you are a teenager visiting Detroit, a music enthusiast, or simply a lover of all things Detroit I would highly recommend giving this place a visit. Very old building that is far more beautiful than these modern builds. Staff is SUPER knowledgeable and friendly. Overall fantastic experience from start to finish.

A planned highlight to my visit to my brother's home in Windsor was to come to Third Man Records for my first time. We went on Sunday, March 2nd. I had an amazing time enjoying the space with my family which included my 15 month old niece. Our visit was incredible, and the staff there, especially Salem, did everything to make it right for us while we were there and afterwards when I had a concern. The store was gorgeous, we loved looking around and all the details. When my niece is more talkative we would love to record her on vinyl there. Can't wait to return again, this place is a mecca for music lovers, and those interested in fine craftmanship, creativity, and community. Would give more stars if this program allowed. Laura Mackie

Welcome to Jack White’s Record Store. It’s more like a museum of vinyl and all things Jack White and White Stripes. I loved the experience of hanging out there and finding rare Detroit records. There’s also a literal window into making vinyl records. Ao cool!

Must visit place if you're in the area. Good looking store with plenty of merch/clothes/gifts/records. You can visit the pressing factory on fridays but make sure to inquire in advance as they are quickly sold out!

Incredible shop. Tons of records to look through, amazing selection of merch. I picked up a couple 7"s to take home with me. On Fridays they do tours of the record pressing plant (I'll have to come back). You can record your own voice for $20 which is such a cool souvenir. Definitely would come back!

What a fun almost historical Americana shop to visit! Pizza and sour beer at the Jolly Pumpkin followed by checking out all the cool items at the 3rd Man. Jack White is one of Michigan’s greatest.

I tried to move some of my IRA money out of Ally Bank. I had the bank I was transferring the money to send a form to have the money transferred and they sent it on to Ally Bank. I called Ally Bank and confirmed that they had received the form and were sending the money. They told me that they had received the request and had cut a check and mailed it to my other bank. A week later, no check! I logged on to my Ally account and could see that the withdrawal occurred over a week earlier. I then contacted Ally to try to find out what happened to my money. They then told me they never cut the check and even though they took the money out of my account. They said they did not have the signed paperwork even though they told me a week earlier that they had the signed paperwork. What a mess. They are all messed up from an administrative standpoint. I still don’t have my money.

Cannot review low enough. Ally used to be a good bank, but lately its plagued with technical issues which cause your money to be locked away and unusable. I expect there's something else going on, since it happens every month.

My vehicle was repossessed by Ally at the auto body shop while I was in court with the shop. A hearing is scheduled for September due to the shop's failure to properly repair the vehicle. Ally claimed to have paid $5,000 to the shop on my behalf, as I had not paid for the repairs, despite having proof that the shop had already cashed the check. My vehicle contained personal belongings valued at over $1,000, including a leather chair, dashcam, a friend's package, floor mat, phone holder, and another package, which Ally refused to return. Ally falsely reported to the credit bureau that I had missed the August payment, leading to the repossession. When I contacted Ally, they either hung up on me, placed me on an extended hold, or yelled at me, demanding payment of $5,000 plus a $599 interest fee to retrieve my vehicle. I attempted to explain that the auto body shop had misrepresented the situation, but Ally refused to listen. They informed me that my vehicle would be sold on August 28. I have been making timely payments on the vehicle since February 2024, and the vehicle remains insured. I did not receive an affidavit of defense, as I had requested that it not be sent to me. The bank stated that they were protecting their interests, which I acknowledge, while also asserting my own interests in ensuring that I do not take possession of a vehicle that has not been properly repaired or has missing parts. This is why I was dealing with the shop, and Ally intervened without first contacting me to verify the accuracy of the shop's claims. I possess all necessary documentation to support my position. How can pay for something that I don't owe? What is the reason Ally took my vehicle?

RUN THEY ARE CROOKS!! They claim I have a past due balance from last year but never applied any of my payments to that, yet keep charging a late fee and when requesting my contract I get the run around. I'm going to have a lawyer look into this. Ally has no morals and poor customer service. I was harassed today called 10 times. Unacceptable!!

I expected Detroit to be busier for a large city. I know we are at the end of Covid. I could see that place having a hard time trying to start over. People need to get past there fears and bring back the pride of your city. It is a beautiful city!

I have this bank for my auto insurance, it is the worst company ever!! First when you call, you have to put in your social or acct# to verify its you. Then when you get a representative, they ask you for this information again! Then they ask you to verify your address, then after all of that they ask is " is this ___________ " Yes!!!! It is!! I just verified my identity in about 20 different ways! I'm sure these employees are just following protocols but the system Ally has in place is incredibly redundant and completely wastes your time! I had a customer service person call me and right away was completely rude to me. I asked to speak with a manager and they just hung up on me! I gave them the benefit of the doubt and called back and patiently went through the entire system again and asked to speak with a manager and was hung up on again! This happened a total of 4 times back to back! I've never had such horrible customer service with a company. Finally after the 4th hang up I found a rep who actually took care of me and got me a manager. I stressed to the manager how great this employee was and that the rest of those 4 employees were absolutely horrible. As soon as I can I'm refinancing with someone else!

Beyond infuriating - I have 2 auto accounts with Ally and I've been trying to pay off one of the loans, but there's a discrepancy in the payout amount on the automated line - Called 4 times to their foreign call center - 4 times hung up on Even gave the last rep my phone # to call me back in the event of another disconnect - 2 hours later, still waiting. Reached out to corporate in Detroit, still haven't heard back I am so done with them Ally customer service is so bad they make Wells Fargo look good

Apparently this building is designed by the same architect that did the twin towers in NYC. You can see a lot of the similarities. Gorgeous on the outside and inside. If you know someone who works there try to get in for the fireworks!

Beautiful interior design, gorgeous ambient light with big windows! The decor inside of the building is modern and vibrant making you feel excited to be there.

I go to this building specifically for the small middle eastern restaurant "M & M Food Corner". I love the falafel sandwich and the Greek salads. Check them out during the work week in Downtown Detroit.

This building is fantastic, and offers some of the best views of Detroit, the Detroit River, and Windsor. Bedrock has done well to incorporate historical elements in a more contemporary design of the building.

I don't know much about anything but the courts there. Had a lawsuit going. Tell you that Judge Berry was a very caring and fair Judge.

An absolutely stunning mansion that transports you back in time. It was unbelievably intricate, art in every corner. You will receive a complimentary historical tour when you eat dinner here. There was a live pianist during the entire dinner which was nice. The food was very homey, especially the pork osso bucco. The beef Wellington is a must try. We also ordered the seafood mix, which I would not recommend (it was boring and fishy). The service was unmatched. Very kind, tentative staff. They were all lovely.

4.33/5 Our experience at The Whitney was nearly perfect. Dining in has been a to-do item for so long and it was great to finally experience the timeless atmosphere on my husband's birthday. Aside from the elegance, the food was delicious. It's hard to pick a favorite dish considering everything had tremendous flavor, but the season's mushroom velouté soup was special. The chef should make it a regular item on the menu. It was also nice to hear live music - the pianist was super talented. The only downside is the place got really busy as we were finishing up so it took way too long to get the bill from our server. We didn't even bother with dessert because we just wanted to leave. However, I'd come back assuming the pace could be better since the birthday meal deal is unbeatable for the quality.

There was all the ingredients for a fine dining experience…. With the important exception of the food. We pulled up to the front door and had our car parked conveniently and quickly by the valet. The building is stunning on the inside and out and a perfect example of a lumber Baron’s home from the late 1800’s. We were seated in a beautiful room that was originally the bedroom of the lady of the manor. However, this went a little downhill from there. For the 1st course I ordered Lobster Bisque and it was served almost cold. They must have completed forgot to heat it up, so it could not have been recently made. I sent it back and the replacement bowl was hot. The taste was just average. Our server was very apologetic and handled it very professionally. My main course was pork shank and to my disappointment it was also cold, almost refrigerator temp. I had to tell the server to take it back and she was visibly embarrassed. I felt sorry for her, as I very rarely complain or send food back. But twice in one sitting at a restaurant with the reputation of the Whitney! There is definitely something amiss in the kitchen. The staff were great though - removed the pork entree from my check and gave all 4 of us a nice desert.

Had a great experience at The Whitney! Our server Raigan was amazing, super attentive and even sent us another round of drinks on her because dinner took just a little longer than expected (not too long tho). Such a thoughtful service and a wonderful night overall! The food was delicious beyond words! Definitely will be going back!

Hosted a bridal shower tea party in the library. Everything was so enjoyable from the first tour with Samantha ceaserz until the day we arrived. Our servers were absolutely amazing 😍 very attentive. I gave the food a 4 star only because everything was quite wasn't so popular with our guests....in specific the sandwiches. I gave service a 4 star because of valet....very pushy... However overall I enjoyed the experience and our guests were in awe of the beautiful mansion and afternoon tea. Highly recommend hosting any party there. Samantha was very enjoyable and easy to work with!

Stumbled upon this gorgeous place after visiting the Detroit Institute of Art. Walked in for a cocktail at The Ghost Bar and ended up having an unexpected and unforgettable experience in a National Landmark. We visited in a Sunday and happy hour was happening all afternoon, which was awesome. Also noted there was a historian on site to give free tours of the house. We did not take one but will on our next visit. Only giving four start because we have a flatbread that was just OK, but we heard food at the restaurant below is fabulous.

The Ambassador Bridge is what connects USA to Canada. It’s a beautiful bridge! Overlooking the river and it’s pretty clean! The boarder crossing wasn’t long at all to cross over to Canada and on the way back as well it wasn’t too bad, but we went during the week, as I’m sure on the weekends it gets pretty busy. Awesome bridge overall!

Going to Canada $2 with some change, going back to U.S. is $9, the ambassador store is very good , and they also had the option to put gasoline in both sides. Beautiful view and smooth ride.

Eleven Years (2009 to 2020) on the Ambassador Bridge: A Commuter's Testament to Neglect For eleven years, my life was measured in the lanes of the Ambassador Bridge. Each day, I joined the river of commuters flowing between Windsor and Detroit, and each day, we were met with the same frustrating reality: a bridge whose management seemed to have forgotten the people who used it. The most enduring symbol of this neglect was the perpetual "maintenance." For over a decade, it was a rare day when all lanes were open. We grew accustomed to the sight of orange cones and closed lanes, but never to the gridlock they caused. The most maddening part was the sheer inertia—for weeks on end, these "work zones" would sit utterly abandoned, yet the lanes remained closed. No workers, no equipment, just silent, empty barriers transforming rush hour into a parking lot. I lost count of the evenings where a five-minute crossing stretched into an hour or more, a routine theft of our time. The solution seemed obvious: employ more crews, work in shifts, and finish the job. But the management's inaction spoke volumes. Their priority was not efficiency or the relief of the daily commuter. Their only consistent action was to reach deeper into our pockets with regular, inexplicable toll increases, offering no improvement in return. Retirement has many blessings, but one I feel deeply is the freedom from that bridge. I finally have my evenings back, no longer held hostage by a management that cared least for the people who were its lifeblood.

What a beautiful Bridge even though it's 100 years old

Excellent experience. I saw the wonderful Detroit Story Fest. The Detroit Opera House is absolutely magnificent. I was once invited to the most beautiful wedding that was held there. It was like a fantasy.

Beautiful venue. Both the lobby and the theatre itself were really spectacular. Entry into the venue was quick and easy. The sound from the stage was good and traveled well. The only drawbacks were that the lines for the restroom were quite long during the intermission and there wasn't a lot of legroom at the seats, at least in the upper level. Overall, it was a good experience and I would return in the future.

Today was my first time visiting the opera house as i had won tickets to opening night to Back To The Future The Musical. I was on crutches due to a leg injury and every staff member I ran into was extremely helpful and accommodating to me and directed me to the handicap restroom without me even having to ask. Not to mention the entire building is beautiful. We were row U on the floor and our view was perfect. Such a great time, I look forward to attending more shows here in the future.

First time ever going lived in Michigan my whole life and I can't believe that and haven't been down there yet, beautiful building not a bad seat in the house I mean we were center stage in the nosebleed and we did not miss a single thing in the wonderful musical back to the Future.

We've never been disappointed when we go here to see musicals. The performances are topnotch. The acoustics are wonderful.

Such a beautiful, opulent, building - old yes; well maintained, true quality, and great acoustics! Every seat has a great view. Sure- the seats could be more comfortable- not that they aren't- it's just springs and fabric wear. Ready access overall- good elevators, and clean restrooms! ~Enjoy the heritage here!

An interesting place to visit, and a must for any automotive enthusiasts who enjoy learning about the leaders of the yesterday and today. The museum truthfully could use some updating in their content displays, and information. In more than one case, those who have passed are still listed as alive (after many many years) and some of the lighting and painting are showing their ages. Overall, this is an interesting museum for adults; children may find it rather boring.

We love museums, this is not part of Henry Ford but it was still interesting. I love the people that work there, they are filled with personal stories are are passionate about the history. All the various people that have contributed or made an impact on the automotive industry. We even got a nice poster when we left.

Definitely worth checking out ! This museum is one of my favorites to visit. With an opportunity to learn the deep history of the automotive industry and the people who shaped it…it is a great place to spend an afternoon! Friendly staff, amazing facilities!

Truly amazing. Clean, well organized and highly informational. We even had a nice tour guide help get us started.

A really fun museum to learn about all automotive-related history of those people that shaped the industry. Angela was highly knowledgeable about the history and she was gracious with her time showing us a few of her favorite displays. This museum is not related to the Ford museums, even though it's in the complex, and at the time of our visit I love how less crowded it was.

We've seen this museum for years and finally decided to go in and we were pleasantly surprised. If you are into cars in any way than you will find interesting things to see. Our guide, Angela was wonderful! Loved her. She had a lot of stories and showed us the best way to go through the museum. Parts of the museum that may have been sort of dry, she gave a side story and made you want to dig deeper or look harder. I'm really glad we finally took the time to go here because it was great.

If your interested in the developer's and engineers who helped and build cars from the past and continue to do so, then it's great! Just take your time walking around and absorb all the info that's placed.
