Historical place
The Winchester Mystery House is a sprawling mansion in San Jose, California, known for its enigmatic design and architectural oddities. Built by Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune, the mansion features over 160 rooms, peculiar staircases leading to nowhere, doors opening onto blank walls, and secret passages. Sarah's eccentricities and mysterious legacy continue to captivate visitors as they explore this labyrinthine landmark.
My wife surprised me with this stop on the way down the coast. Bought tickets early and still had to change the start time twice, which was easy through the purchase confirmation email. Tour itself was great, and pun filled from the guide. Very well preserved piece of interesting history. Greatly enjoyed it!

Festival Fright Nights at the Winchester Mystery House was a fantastic experience, well-suited for teens and definitely for adults. Having grown up in Santa Clara, I've visited the house enough times that it felt more like a known landmark than a destination. Tonight’s visit completely changed that perspective. The skill and respect with which the performers and craftsmen honored the spirit of the house was both amazing and astonishing. The event relies on atmosphere and genuinely terrifying performers rather than excessive technological effects, which makes it all the more effective. Nearly the entire estate is transformed into an almost unrecognizable version of itself, stocked with characters that bring the Halloween spirit to life. I can't think of a better night out for a couple looking to celebrate the Halloween season. We purchased our tickets through Costco. While there are numerous add-ons, most aren't strictly necessary. If you want to enjoy a drink at the start of the tour, the VIP pass and glow stick are worth considering. Otherwise, supporting them as you see fit helps keep the spirit of this unique place alive. For sure do the Underground basement tour. It is a great tour of a piece of local history. I sincerely hope this company takes over the Great America property. They could run it far better than the current management.
Rob A — Google review
Winchester Mansion was such a beautiful and fascinating find. My husband had watched a documentary on it, and I had always heard about this house, so visiting in person was really exciting. We both appreciate vintage furniture and history, so this tour was right up our alley. Our tour guide was vibrant, fun, and incredibly knowledgeable, which made the experience even more engaging. I’m usually the one in the group asking a ton of questions, and I definitely gave her a run for her money with a few she hadn’t heard before. I actually loved that — it gave her something new to think about after all her years of doing these tours. If you enjoy architecture, history, or anything a little odd and mysterious, I highly recommend visiting. From windows in the floor to doors that don’t open, stairways to nowhere, and all the quirky details in between — it’s such an interesting and unique place to experience.
Shannon — Google review
Winchester mystery house is a must for anyone into the paranormal. The energy is so surreal inside the house. My daughter and I could feel and hear sounds no others could while on tour. The price is very affordable. If you visit California this is definitely something to see. The gardens are beautiful with wonders at every turn. One of the great California mysteries lies within these walls.
Turbo F — Google review
I have been coming to the Winchester house off randomly since the 1970s. The tours have morphed over the decades and are great. This is the first time we did a basement tour though. It was not worth the cost. All you really see is lots of bricks, concrete and low hanging pipes. The only thing of interest down there is the old boiler. The staff were great. We got there a couple of hours before our scheduled tour, and they nicely got us in an earlier tour.
Dan C — Google review
Educational and fun tour! We didn't encounter any paranormal activity but maybe you will! No need to do the basement tour for the extra $13 dollars it's pretty quick and didn't have anything exciting happen. They have a lovely gift shop.

What a thrilling experience it was to finally visit The Winchester Mystery Mansion.bit had always been on my list and I finally made it. The tour was absolutely amazing so informative and the place was spooky but filled with so much history. The masquerade was the best Haunted mase, party I've been to. Walking inside the house being able walk around the house was an incredible experience . The staff and everyone was kind and friendly so worth the trip.
Joe O — Google review
The guided tours of the Winchester Mystery House are all fun and entertaining while you gain insight into the history of the house and the area. Our guides have always been fun! We went in early October when their Halloween themed night decorations were up which made it more spooky and fun. The "self guided" basement tour is a bit of a letdown now. Years ago we paid for a "guided tour" of the basement and stables. That was worth it. This year we added the extra $$ for the basement tour only to find it was self guided with a few plaques and some arrows on the ground. Take the tour but skip the basement add on and save some $$.

The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, located within the tranquil Rosicrucian Park, offers a captivating journey into ancient Egyptian art and culture. The museum's architecture is reminiscent of the temples of Karnak and Luxor, providing an immersive experience for visitors. With over 4,000 exhibits spanning from pre-dynastic times to Egypt's early Islamic era, it boasts the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts in western North America.
This was a fun and inexpensive exhibit. I would say a must-see! I have been to a few, and I learned a bunch at this one. The alchemy area and the replica tomb area were super unique and neat. Kids and adults alike would love this. Unless I missed it, it didn't look like there was a gift shop! I would have supported this place if there was anything, my only recommendation
Louis V — Google review
Pretty good if you can get past where the money and artifacts came from for this place. The Rosecrucian ARORC order in the US has funded this place with old money, so the entry fee is quite modest for the artifact they have. The building itself is also a bit of a wonder, with a nice small garden around it. It takes a good couple of hours for a good look through all the wings. The faux temple is a bit cringy, especially with the over-the-top narration from the guides. I guess it makes there day a bit more fun. Great for the kids though.
Douglas A — Google review
If you’re even remotely interested in ancient Egypt, the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is a hidden gem you shouldn’t miss. Tucked away in a serene part of San Jose, the museum offers one of the largest collections of authentic Egyptian artifacts on display in Western North America - from mummies and sarcophagi to everyday tools and religious relics. The standout feature? A walk-through replica of an ancient tomb that gives you a real sense of how the ancients honored their dead. The layout is thoughtful, the signage is educational without being overwhelming, and the architecture of the building itself, inspired by ancient Egyptian design, adds to the immersive feel. It’s not a huge museum, but that’s part of the charm. You can easily explore everything in 1.5 to 2 hours, making it perfect for a half-day visit. There’s also a peaceful garden outside that’s worth a quiet stroll. Tips: • Visit during weekdays to avoid school groups. • Great for families, history lovers, and photographers. • The gift shop has some surprisingly cool finds. Overall, it’s a quirky, well-curated museum with genuine passion behind it. A great way to time travel without leaving Silicon Valley.

Free parking is around the back, they have free tours and sometimes workshops. They have a passport you can buy for $1 where you go around and collect stamps. No gift shop though- we wish they had one. The gardens are beautiful with a labyrinth! Full days worth if you actually read all the information in the museum.
HOLLY S — Google review
A solid small museum experience. Plenty of descriptions of the pieces that are in the museum. Ok for children, but better suited for older children/adults given there isn't really an interactive experience to it. Be sure to also tour the outside as there are gardens surrounding as well (that part and parking can be done free of charge).
Maxwell H — Google review
Awesome architecture and lots of interesting exhibits. Wish it were slightly bigger, but I really enjoyed the outdoor area!
L — Google review
Small Egyptian museum. Free small 10-15min tour. Lot of display for small museum. Parking likely issue. Went on Sat pm near closing so I had parking. Worth visit at least once.
Max — Google review
We got up early on our way to Gilroy Gardens from Temecula, so that we could visit the museum. It's been a staple favorite for a long time! Amazing artifacts treated with the utmost respect. Beautiful grounds and ambiance. I feel they could inject so much life and funds into the place by hosting more events that align with their principles. Having local artists come in and create art based on the grounds and artifacts, having merchandise for sale, Egyptian, Esoteric and Rosicrucian would bring more revenue into the place and provide much needed funds for restoration of the almost 100 year old grounds. So much potential for community and beauty in this space made so beautiful by the combination of grounds and buildings. If available I'd be bringing home pieces to remind me of one of my most favorite museums in the country!

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, located in downtown San Jose, is a stunning example of Romanesque Revival architecture. This historic landmark has been a center for worship and community gatherings for over a century. Visitors are captivated by its ornate decor, stained glass windows, and majestic spires that reach towards the sky. The church offers a tranquil space for reflection and spiritual nourishment amidst the bustling city streets.
I was in town for a few days, and the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph was the first place I visited for some peace. The moment I walked in, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. The stunning stained glass windows and intricate details in the architecture were mesmerizing. It’s a quiet, spiritual sanctuary in the middle of the city, perfect for reflection and admiring the beauty of historic craftsmanship. If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat or simply a beautiful space to take in, this basilica is a must-visit.

Beautiful wedding Jacques and Ada Chua!! Absolutely breathtaking! What an amazing place to see two become unity with christ in holy matrimony! God is so amazing! Thank you lord for your blessings, your Grace is new everyday! Thank you father God!
Rachel J — Google review
My now husband and I recently got married at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph and I cannot give enough praise to our music coordinator Oswaldo and his wife for making our day just feel so magical. The music during the ceremony was everything we had hoped for, thanks to his communication and collaboration. Along with my praises for him and his wife, I also wanted to thank the wedding coordinator Mary for all of her help and for Msgr. Fr. Francisco for coming back to preside over the nuptial mass. His words of encouragement during the mass touched us, and Mary’s guidance was a comfort. One thing I will comment on was that there were some times the mic on Msgr. Fr. Francisco would be hard to hear due to the echo/ reverb, so the sound system may need work. Overall, I adore this cathedral and our wedding was everything we hoped for thanks to them all ♡

This church is so beautiful and most days open to just sit and enjoy the peacefulness of it all. I've been visiting since I was a little girl before the renovations. Gorgeous church and great gift shop. Usually parking in front limited time. My sister just bought and sent me a rosary for my birthday it's beautiful.

A beautiful Catholic church with well over 150 years of tradition! Stunning stained glass windows, beautifully hand built grottos featuring various saints. It truly is a breathtaking place! The Mass and the music were wonderful. Go for the Mass, and stay afterwards to give yourself a tour. Of note, on Wednesdays between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., they do offer docent tours!

Absolutely beautiful. It was breathtaking to walk in . It was my first time there and i don’t know if it was because it was the Sunday of Mother’s Day, but the choir was a Mariachi. Overall it was a wonderful experience.

Majestic cathedral on the San Jose history walk tour! Very ornate and historical! The original structure was built in 1803 but was destroyed by a fire in 1875. We only got to peek in the doors as something was going on inside. Sad we couldn’t view the whole church.

The San Jose Municipal Rose Garden is a stunning 5.5-acre garden featuring over 180 varieties of roses that bloom from April to November. The garden is adorned with a fountain and offers a picturesque setting with California redwoods mingling among the 3,500 plantings. It has been recognized as America's Best Rose Garden by the American Rose Society.
The Municipal Rose Garden is a lovely little park nestled in the city. Although it’s not very large, it’s filled with a wide variety of colorful roses that make it feel vibrant and peaceful. 🌷🌺 Even on weekdays, you’ll see many people strolling through the garden, enjoying the flowers, taking photos, or having a relaxing picnic on the grass. 🧺📸 It’s a peaceful and scenic spot that’s definitely worth a visit, whether you’re a flower lover or just looking for a calm escape in the city. 💖

This place is beautiful and really clean. The roses are at the end of its bloom but still really pretty. Many areas to take photos. We saw a lot of people sitting on the lawn having a picnic. Very quiet park and located in a very fancy neighborhood.
Izzy H — Google review
Multiple varieties of colorful roses plus a central fountain, some shady spots for picnicing, an open green space, and restrooms! Loved wandering through and smelling the flowers. There's plenty of street parking around the perimeter of the garden. Be aware the garden does host events. During my Saturday visit around 1pm, some staff were walking around notifying those who were seated under the trees in the green space that event staff would be arriving in the next hour to start setting up for a wedding and that we would need to move.
Michelle B — Google review
Beautiful rose garden with an amazing variety of roses and long blooming season, usually peaking in late spring but lasting well into summer and fall. Free to the public, well-maintained, and a peaceful spot to stroll, relax, or take photos. A true San Jose gem!
Liyan — Google review
This striking Garden has been one of the best tose gardens. The roses are in several areas around the fountain. I found unique roses including the ketchup and mustard rose and several others there are bushes with red roses. White roses, yellow roses and multicolor roses. The park has several redwoods I. The center and large open fields for picnics and informal games and running around The park is enclosed by a high fence. An accessible wimens restroom sits at one gate and the mens accessible restroom is at the other gate. Free accessible street parallel parking. Pay phone by women’s restrooms

I am strolling along sipping on my chocolate milkshake, and I smelled this sweet essence in the air while I wait at a traffic light to cross the street. To my surprise I happen to walk along a street with a rose garden. The bonus is it is free to visit. It was a beautiful Autumn day to stroll, meditate, people watch, and enjoy the blooms. How lovely!
Lyn A — Google review
A really lovely garden filled with beautiful roses! I visited just before summer, so some plants were already past their peak bloom, but it was still such a charming and peaceful place. It’s a great spot for a morning or afternoon stroll, with picnic areas where you can relax and enjoy the view.
BA — Google review
This is actually the second time I visit this garden. It splits into two sections where the first half is the rose garden and the second half is a picnic area. It was quiet today compared to my last visit, but I took plentiful of pictures. It’s also very hot since it’s Summer now, which is why I didn’t want to stay here for too long. You can also host events in this garden. During my last visit, someone held a graduation party or ceremony and it was really loud. I guess it gets quiet because either it’s not Saturday or no one held an event. There weren’t many people at the picnic area because most people came here for the garden. Also it’s really hot now. Of course people will go to the shade.

Santana Row is an upscale outdoor mall in San Jose, designed to resemble the charm of European cobblestone streets with its fountains and palm trees. It features a variety of high-end shops, bars, and restaurants with outdoor seating and live music. The 42-acre Mediterranean-style district is not only a shopping destination but also a residential area where dogs are often seen strolling alongside their owners.

One of my favorite spots in San Jose. Never disappoints. Nice street to walk down. Full of upscale shops and also a few places to eat. Would recommend for a nice stroll, seeing the shops and a few things on the street for good photo opportunities.

Santana Row is a great commcial complex of upscale clothing, dining, and events in an open air ambiance. Brand name international and domestic chains of clothing, sports equipment and more offer small accessible Venues. I had a hard time deciding between all the dining venues! The central areas and medians are decorated with twinkle lights on trees, with mostly accessible venues. The center is ringed with apartments on second and third floor The parking garage does not list parking prices and the exit signs are difficult to follow. Accessible restrooms in various areas and eateries in the commercial center. Check out the events calendars.

Outdoor shopping area with high end luxury brands. Lovely walking area during the day and at night. Looks pretty in the evening because of the lights. There are several fountains to check out if your into that. Really like the tree lined streets, wide sidewalks and how much of the areas is pedestrian traffic only.

Santana Row is one of the most beautiful spots in San Jose — perfectly designed for a relaxed walk, great food, and people watching. The outdoor layout feels like a small European town with fountains, trees, and cozy patios everywhere. There’s an excellent mix of restaurants, cafés, and shops — from casual bakeries to upscale dining and fashion boutiques. Everything is clean, well-kept, and lively, especially in the evenings when the lights and atmosphere feel festive. Parking can get busy on weekends, but it’s absolutely worth visiting. Whether you’re here for coffee, dinner, or just to stroll, Santana Row always feels special.

The San Jose Museum of Art features rotating exhibitions showcasing works from the post-1980 era to older 20th-century pieces. Visitors can also enjoy a cafe and an education center on-site. The museum focuses on California artists, as well as those from the West Coast and the Pacific region, making it a must-see for culture enthusiasts visiting San Jose. The museum store offers art books, kits, jewelry, and children's items.
On my first visit to SJ, the exhibitions were excellent. Unfortunately, there was no bike rack outside, but you can leave your bike inside. I wish I had known in advance that it was the first Thursday of the month. I arrived half an hour early and it would have been nice if the staff had informed me. There's no discount for Bay Area residents.

Visited on a weekday for a retreat and it worked great. The central downtown location is super convenient, and there’s a nearby parking lot that made logistics manageable (parking can take a minute, but it’s doable). The space itself is clean, modern, and welcoming. It seems a nice calm hidden gem in the city. I didn’t have time to dive into the collection, but several others did and came away impressed.

San Jose Museum of Art Visited on June 7th, 2024 As a creative individual and an ardent admirer of art, sculpture, and nature, visiting the San Jose Museum of Art was nothing short of a blessing and a delightful experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was immersed in an inspiring blend of contemporary art, thoughtfully curated exhibits, and breathtaking sculptures. Each piece reflects a unique story, and the museum’s atmosphere ignites creativity and wonder. The museum is beautifully organized, making it easy to explore and appreciate every artwork at your own pace. I found myself particularly drawn to the intricate details of the exhibits, which showcase both established and emerging artists. One of the highlights for me was the gift shop gallery—a haven for art enthusiasts. It offers a wonderful selection of art-inspired stationery, unique books, and artistic keepsakes. As an astrologer, I was thrilled to discover tarot cards and astrology-related books here—a surprising yet delightful addition that felt like a personal touch! Overall, the San Jose Museum of Art is an experience I will cherish. Whether you’re an art lover, a creative soul, or simply looking for inspiration, this place is a must-visit. I left feeling happy, inspired, and already planning my next visit. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates art, culture, and creativity. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Level 7 Google Local Guide

For major museums this is quite small. Also I enjoyed the first exhibit that we walked into which had a lot of bright and vibrant art but after that I found much of it pretty forgettable. Also fairly challenging to park there as it's downtown San Jose and there are a variety of parking places however some of them are kind of pricey. Ended up parking on a meter and stayed for less than 3 hours. Shout out to the staff as my wife left a phone there and was able to retrieve it from the nice people there. Overall an enjoyable experience.

We had a great time here. It was Chinese New Year's weekend and was too much crowded. Also, there was a dragon dance show, which had a huge line. There is a small cafe inside. Prices are reasonable for all food items (not a lot of options available). It's a good place to bring young children and can spend approximately 2-3 hours here. Weekend entry is free to this museum. Lots of art collections here, attached pics. I will recommend visiting if you are nearby.

Modern abstract art museum. don’t know ANYTHING about ART!! I really don’t.. But I do love looking at interesting pictures. On the small side for a city museum but a pleasant space and helpful staff. Nice exhibits with no barriers so being up close and interacting was easy. Great spot in downtown San Jose to take in art. Some of the art installations are thought provoking. Some art look deceptively simple, but the amount of work that went into making it so simple seems so effortless.

Located in San Jose, California, The Tech Interactive is a family-friendly science and technology center that offers hands-on exhibits and immersive experiences for visitors of all ages. Formerly known as The Tech Museum of Innovation, it goes beyond the traditional museum experience to celebrate human ingenuity and creativity. With interactive displays covering various sectors such as robotics and cyber security, the museum aims to promote STEM learning in an engaging way. Its spacious facility also includes an IMAX theater for an enhanced experience.
It was good, not just for kids but also for adults. Don't expect the exhibition to be too technical as I guess it was catered to kids and those who are not too tech savvy. And also, don't expect too much for the value you paid. I wish there's more as I really enjoyed each exhibit. And, I love how the shop will give tantrums to kids after few NO's. 😂 Although, I myself couldn't refuse buying. I was hoping the chairs in the Imax dome are reclining cause it would've been a better user experience. Overall, good value for money.

We had great time here. The whole experience was very enjoyable and fun for both kids and adults. There are many cool exhibitions. My personal favorite was the new exhibit, Dream Garden, where we got to play with the animation with our whole body. The IMAX dome theater is also a must-visit even though you already get a free one-time admission when purchasing the tickets to the museum. We love the Blue Whale documentary. Very educational and entertaining!

Super fun place to explore if you're even a little bit curious about how things work. Tons of interactive exhibits, and the robotics and VR stuff really pull you in. Some parts felt a little dated, but it’s still one of those museums where kids and adults can both have a good time without it feeling too “educational.”

The Tech Interactive I've been here in high school during a field trip. Back then, it was called "The Tech Museum of Innovation." This place is great for Elementary students and above. The Ai was cool and the arcade was fun. Alot of learning about the environment. The Body Worlds exhibit are from Institute for Plastination. They preserved real humans here. It really isn't for the fainted heart. The bodies used are for science-based. Either way, it's crazy to see. All the staff's there are super friendly and helpful. I would go back just for that.

Best tech museum in Silicon Valley for kids. Probably the most well respected tech museum for kids with a sublime imax done theater which is one of a kind. Best to go during the week or early on weekends. It can get quite crowded. Parking is easy with plenty of massive parking lots nearby and the museum validates it so parking is almost free. A nice healthy cafe at the entrance. Plenty of clean toilets. A clean museum for kids with anti bacterial lotions spread throughout and wide clean spaces. The exhibits are very kid friendly and encourages them to play with it and experiment and engage their curiosity. The imax theater is to die for. A dome theater that’s massive and gets you deeply into the movie despite lots of excited noisy chatter from kids. The museum is spread across three floors and the body worlds exhibit is one of the special exhibits that my kids loved. A bit scary for the young ones but very informative and life like.

Pretty awesome spot designed for kids but still kind of interesting for adults. There is a lot of interactive exhibits as the museum name suggests which teach a lot of real world physics and understanding of the world. The giant IMAX Dome theater is awesome for watching any of the educational films. Free street parking was easy to come by on a Sunday.

The Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose is a haven for kids of all ages, featuring over 150 interactive exhibits and a full-size fire truck. It offers hands-on experiences for children and intriguing displays for adults. One standout exhibit is the WaterWays, where colorful balls travel through water-filled tubes. The museum also caters to specific age groups with areas like the Wonder Cabinet designed for children aged 4 and younger.
A museum dedicated to children, especially for younger kids, but children of all ages are welcome. There are 2 stories in the museum, excluding an area where it seems to be half of basement. There are a lot of fun and interactive activities for kids to learn and explore, but should be done under the supervision of adults.

Children’s Discovery Museum, San Jose – Visitor Impression (April 2025) Visited the museum surroundings without purchasing a ticket. The exterior looks vibrant and family-friendly. Conveniently located adjacent to the Blue Line station, making it easily accessible. While I didn't explore the exhibits inside, the atmosphere and location left a good impression.

Well we decided to go here for my daughters 1st birthday. Her mother(myself), her father, my father and his girlfriend. I remember visiting this place as a kid and remembering it being so big and the biggest rubber ducky I have ever seen on the roof. Parking is HORRIBLE!!!! We didn’t really know what to expect?!?! We started in the fossil type room, my father and boyfriend seem engage but the ladies weren’t impressed and same for the world market which has all the fake foods and veggies to pretend. Then was the star of the show where all of us lit up and had so much fun. My baby girl loves water and balls and this combines them in the most enjoyable way for a 1 year old! We couldn’t choose a favorite from the rain room, balls torpedoing down the center of a huge cylinder, balls being shot in the air, ball and water launch shooter, ball water balance moving section and so much more. It is was water fun times ten. All the ladies found ourselves having so much fun. My daughter lost it when we went to the wonder cabinet because we had to pry the ball out of her miniature hand. I asked the helper where a one year old should spend their birthday in this place and she said wonder cabinet and we all went. My daughter liked a few things here like the room at the top with a carousel of flashing lights. A cylindrical areas with balls at the bottom to be placed up to and watch the ball circle around until it falls in the hole. As soon as I pryed out her beautiful little hand she lost it once again. As we were exiting my daughter got her last dose of fun photo time at the fire truck and fruit truck and ended her time with the air shooting a call in the air over and over. My daughter loved this museum so much when I pried them out again she lost it for the last time but she enjoyed her sleep. Happy birthday to my wonderful 1 year old!!!!! 5 stars ALL around!!!!!

I took my daughter and grandson on an exciting trip from Antioch to the museum, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience for all of us. As soon as we arrived, the vibrant atmosphere of the museum captivated us, but it was the water exhibit that truly stole the show. My grandson was absolutely thrilled by the interactive balls floating in the water, and I could see his eyes light up with joy as he splashed around, completely immersed in play. He eagerly tried out all the different activities, giggling as he experimented with the water flow and watched the colorful balls swirl around. The staff members at the museum were incredibly friendly and welcoming, enhancing our visit with their cheerful demeanor and willingness to help. They offered great insights into the exhibits and provided us with tips on the best attractions to explore, which made our experience even more enjoyable. Their warmth created a positive and inviting atmosphere, making us feel right at home in the bustling environment. Overall, it was a memorable day filled with laughter, learning, and quality time together as a family.

This museum is so much fun and perfect for kids all ages. It has two floors and an outdoor area. The first floor is where the kids can explore water works, fire truck/ambulance pretend play, foam buildings, mammoth era, and more. The second floor is where they learn about space (shapes), arts, and toddlers room (age 4 and below) where they can roam freely without getting hit. There’s also a crawl space section for crawlers here! Parking is easy to find. And they have special exhibits from time to time, such as Thomas train, Japan, etc. No cafeteria but there’s a vending machine inside.

If you’ve got little ones, this place is gold. There’s so much for them to touch, build, pretend, and run around in. Just be ready for a lot of excited and sometimes loud kids if you go on a weekend.

Nice museum for toddlers to visit and play. The second floor also has a room for toddlers to explore, such as art, science and play area. The museum has more to be discovered, like an outdoor playground, or water zone. We already got the membership. We will definitely come back again.

A small but fun children museum. There are fire truck, ambulance, horse carriage kids can hop on. A lot of interactive displays and art activities for kids to play and take part in. There is also a water play area where kids can toss plastic balls into a pool of water. Do bring extra change of clothes, you might get a little wet. This is a nice 1,5-2 hours play and learning place for children.

The San Jose Flea Market, located at 1590 Berryessa Rd, San Jose, CA 95133, is a bustling and family-friendly marketplace offering an extensive variety of goods and delectable treats. Spanning across 120 acres, this vibrant destination hosts numerous vendors selling an assortment of items such as antiques, vintage clothing, fresh produce, and handmade crafts. It's a cultural melting pot reflecting the diversity of San Jose.
Better vibe than most shopping malls, to be honest. A lot of different kinds of toys and plushies. Interesting stuff like furniture, potted plants, power tools and tires. A healthy amount of fresh produce. But less cooked food variety than a fully-active mall or farmer's market.

It’s a pretty cool experience but you need to set your expectations. They have shops (new and used stuff), food, drink, entertainment, and even kids rides. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday. Walk, eat, shop. Clearly there’s a lot of cheap stuff and knock offs. But there are hidden gems. I’d say a great place to shop for cowboy hats and boots. Produce is decent. Might as well go on Saturday instead of Sunday to save $10 on parking.

There's something for everyone here! Amazing food (lunch, dinner, sweet treats, fresh fruit and vegetables), clothing (formal wear, dresses, shirts pants), shoes (boots, sandals, slides), accessories (phone charms, selfie sticks, self defense tools), bags of all kinds (backpacks, purses, satchels, fanny packs), off-brand products (great place to find bootleg items that are trending - from Nikes to Labubus), hair accessories, air brushed shirts, and so much more. I've never had a bad time coming here ❣️

Immerse yourself in the rich history of San Jose at the Gonzales-Peralta Adobe & Fallon House Historic Site. Step back in time to the 18th century as you explore the furnished Apache Indian house and then journey to the Victorian era with a visit to the Fallon House, built by San Jose's seventh mayor. The site offers comprehensive tours of both houses, lasting 90 minutes, and an intriguing video detailing their construction and history.
If you are a history buff or interested in the history of the city you are staying at, you must take a tour here. Scott and Sarah are great guides and the behind the scenes stories are wonderful.

Well preserved house. You have to book it online to get a tour and access inside. The house is nice and the tour guide gives you a history of its famous occupant, Thomas Fallon. The guide is very knowledgeable about its history. The items inside the house have their own unique stories, such as the artwork made of hair that resembles a tree.

We just had a fun experience @ Adobe Fallon House with our 4th grader class. The students really enjoy the 1800 mid century experience and the chaperones were part of the education. Students were split into groups to rotate the many work stations. Students were able to try out clothes and experience the way they were dress, they learn to make fire, throw a rope to the fake bull. I was part of the chaperone who taught the kids how to make mint tea and old fashion corn tortillas, which the kids got to make and taste, kids also learn to play with the different tools. They had so much fun with hands on information, rather than just reading about it. The young ladies leading the groups were very helpful and very upbeat to teach. The only hard part is having restaurants surroundings the Adobe house with tempting bbq smoke smells and not able to move from the learning group. The San Pedro Square smells delicious!! I will be back to have a seat next to the Adobe House.

Step into the past at the Luis María Peralta Adobe, a remarkable house museum that stands as San Jose's oldest building, dating back to 1797. This adobe structure serves as a captivating portal to California's Spanish and Mexican heritage. As you explore its historic rooms filled with period furniture and artifacts, you'll uncover stories of the Peralta family and their significant contributions to the region’s early days.
Luis Maria Peralta Adobe is a heritage sight situated in the city center of San Jose and is very close to San Pedro Market Sqaure. This place gives pure historic vibes while having a blend of modern and old era. As its located right among the city skyscrappers the view turns out impeccably superb. While the info boards narrate the story of history of the place, the Adobe itself speaks for the old times.

You have to book on their official website to enter the building. It's located inside the san pedro Square, so there's food everywhere. The interior is nice, and its preserved with items and furniture dating back since its construction.

Located in the communal seating courtyard between buildings of the San Pedro Market. The Adobe was built in 1797 by Manuel Gonzalez, and Apache Indian. He was also the first resident and second mayor of the Pueblo of San Jose. It's used during the weekdays to educate local school children about the life of early residents. Open to the Public for designated events. Check their website in Maps to see what is on the schedule.

This was the oldest building in San Jose, where the history of San Jose started. Located at the center of the San Pedro Market compound, this humble historical building can be easily overlooked. We did overlooked this when the first time we were for lunch, only realised much later on a walking tour.

This entire market should have a single review site. My review does not reflect the bar which is wonderful as all the bars here are. Unfortunately the operators of the venue really need to do a little more work. The bathrooms could definitely be cleaner as well as the outside when it gets busy. However the biggest problem with the current winds is dust in the plaza. I came here to see a band this weekend and the dust was so bad people were leaving and droves. Their decomposed granite has completely decomposed into dust. A little simple venue maintenance of removing this dusty old granite and replacing it with new decompose granite as well as a little dust mitigation would solve the problem. Right now with the high winds forget trying to eat your food outside unless you want it covered with granite dust. That being said I absolutely love this place the venue and the music they bring in.

San Jose City Hall, completed in 2005, is a striking complex located at the two-block San Jose Civic Plaza. Designed by renowned architect Richard Meier, it boasts a Postmodern style with clean lines and an 18-story tower that evokes the International Style. Illuminated at night, the city hall is a remarkable sight to behold in downtown San Jose. Visitors often appreciate the helpful and courteous response from the city's staff when interacting with them.

On my way to pick up medication following a surgery, I encountered a group of young mountain bikers weaving in and out of lanes and riding against traffic. One biker nearly collided with my vehicle. My car’s collision detection system activated, abruptly braking to avoid a biker who came dangerously close, causing the vehicle behind me to brake suddenly as well. This almost resulted in a near rear-end collision. My 76-year-old father, seated in the back, experienced a sudden jolt to her neck and was shaken by the incident. Concerned for public safety, I began recording the situation on my phone. The bikers noticed and shouted, “They’re recording me!”

Alum Rock Park, located in San Jose, California, is the state's oldest municipal park dating back to 1872. It offers 13 miles of scenic hiking and biking trails, mineral springs, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a small museum. The park is known for its wildlife sightings and group camping opportunities. Alum Rock Park was once a health spa due to its 27 natural mineral springs that are still present today.
Very accessible Nature area that is close to but feels far from city streets. Easy-going, family-friendly stroll along a shady canyon & burbling stream, with lots of steeper trail options alongside for further adventure. Plenty of parking deeper into the canyon. Lots of reservable picnic areas, & restrooms. The Youth Science Institute is a cute little visit with a collection of taxidermy birds & live tortoises for the kids. Exploring the historical ruins is poignant & fascinating.

Also, the natural rock formations and historic mineral springs give the park a unique character. Parking is generally available, though it can get crowded on weekends. I have been going to Alum Rock Park for over 35 years. It is my sanctuary. I run into people that I see daily: the regulars. It is an absolute gem that San Jose has hidden in the East foothills. I was walking yesterday and I ran into a gentleman that was busy cleaning, Izaiz Barrera. I learned that he’s a supervisor for Conservation Corps. I asked him if they could clean up a place that becomes very dangerously slippery with the fallen leaves and morning dew. he walked with me so that I could show him exactly what I was talking about. He affirmed that they would take care of it. He was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and hard-working. It was an absolute joy to see someone work with diligence and dedication the park that I love and have had the privilege of enjoying whenever possible I have gone through a lot of medical adversities as well as the loss of my mother and Alum Rock has gotten me through it all. I would like to ask the city or whatever agency responsible to continue with the clean up. It was wonderful to see the cleanup going on however, the park needs continuous maintenance. In addition to my asking that the continuous clean up happens, What can I do to help actualize this effort? Finally, Thank you Conservation Corps for the young hard workers you provide, especially for the training and the fruit of their labor which we, San Jose residents get to enjoy. great use of our tax dollars! Plaza de Cesar Chavez, located in the heart of downtown San Jose, is a bustling open space that hosts a variety of events and concerts throughout the year. This two-acre park is surrounded by iconic landmarks such as the Tech Museum of Innovation and the San Jose Museum of Art. During Christmas, it transforms into a festive wonderland with animatronic elves and decorated trees, while in summer, free concerts are held every Thursday.
Don’t miss out on visiting after November 29 through December when they host Christmas in the Park. Walk by beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Parking is very convenient in City view Plaza: $11 for multiple hours we spent there on that day and just a very short walk to the park. For family with kids there is plenty to see. If you are in a company of 21+ and want to check out some Christmas pop up bars there are 3: Mini boss and Paper Planes opened after 5p and 55 South at 4p. There is also Hilton hotel nearby with its own fancy Christmas decor and Bijou cafe if you want an indoor sit down. Otherwise there is plenty of food stands around the park and public bathrooms are near Ferris wheel 🎡

The market's bar scene is popular among locals and visitors alike, featuring live music at various venues. Additionally, the area hosts vendors selling fresh produce and handmade gifts.
It’s a good concept with many choices but the food is mediocre at best! But good beer selection for sure! The fish and chips are okay. The calamari is terrible, chicken burgers also bad, but hamburger is better! They even have a band playing on the Wednesday night, that’s impressive but makes regular conversation almost impossible. Lots seating between indoor and outdoor area. There are gas heaters available at the outside area that you can turn it on at you discretion! One other good thing is they have vary clean restrooms!

San Pedro Square Market has a few food vendors including the bar. It was many people when I got there and is hot here as well. It sits right next to its parking garage where patrons can come by here to eat. It’s a very nice area where you can dine and hangout. They even have a stage where performers can sing in front of the audience. It seems that many people come to Downtown SJ for this location, because while I was walking around, there’s not that many people until I came to this market. They even have a water dispenser so that you don’t have to ask for water from any food vendor.

Visited San Pedro square market on May 5th so got to witness the Cinco de Mayo festivities, live music and such vibrant atmosphere even though it was Monday evening. Lot of food options including Mexican, Indo-Nepalese and others bars for a good time. This square has a lot of history. Got to know that San Jose was the oldest city of CA from an info placard. Reminded me of The Alamo in San Antonio.

Nice place to visit and hang out while at downtown. Variety of food choices, plenty of seating including outdoors, a bit noisy atmosphere but the vibe is awesome. Parking across the street at the garage .

If you're looking for a vibrant and diverse culinary experience in San Jose, look no further than San Pedro Square Market! This bustling marketplace offers a fantastic selection of food vendors, each serving up delicious and unique dishes to satisfy every craving. From savory empanadas and flavorful tacos to gourmet burgers and fresh seafood, there's something for everyone here. The ambiance is equally impressive. The open-air setting creates a lively and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for gathering with friends and family. The colorful decor and live music add to the overall charm. Plus, the easy parking options nearby make it a convenient spot to visit, even on busy weekends.

The SAP Center, situated in downtown San Jose, is a top-tier entertainment venue that serves as a cultural focal point and a must-see attraction for visitors to the city. As the home of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, it also welcomes renowned musical acts, exciting sports competitions, family-friendly shows, and various live performances. With its modern facilities and exceptional sound quality, this state-of-the-art arena guarantees an unforgettable experience for fans of sports and music alike.
I had the best time when visiting here for my first ever game of Hockey. The stadium was decked out in Sharks theme and views even from the cheap seats was very good. The atmosphere was awesome and the crowd had a great time with an amazing win in penalties to the Sharks! Food and beer there were a crazy amount of choices!

I absolutely love going to the game with family and friends. The atmosphere and food selection is wonderful. Arriving and leaving considering it's an arena is easy and doesn't take forever to get in or out. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

The SAP Center in San Jose, affectionately known as “The Shark Tank,” is a premier venue that offers a memorable experience for both sports and entertainment events. Its modern design ensures that there isn’t a bad seat in the house, providing excellent sightlines for attendees. The arena boasts a variety of food options, including local favorites like Smoking Pig BBQ and Umai Sushi, catering to diverse tastes . Attending Disney on Ice at the SAP Center is a delightful experience for families. The show features a captivating lineup of Disney characters, with performances from favorites like Frozen, Moana, and Toy Story. The skaters’ energy and the engaging music create an enchanting atmosphere that resonates with both children and adults . However, it’s worth noting that some attendees have expressed concerns about the high prices of concessions and merchandise during the event. Items like cotton candy and toys are priced significantly higher than average, which can add up quickly for families . Tips for a Great Experience: Seating: While front-row seats offer proximity to the action, some parents have found them too close for young children. Opting for seats a few rows back may provide a better viewing experience . Arrival: Arriving early can help you avoid parking hassles and give you time to explore the arena’s offerings. Budgeting: Be prepared for higher-than-average prices on food and merchandise. Setting expectations with children beforehand can help manage spending. Overall, the SAP Center provides a comfortable and engaging environment for events like Disney on Ice. With a bit of planning, families can enjoy a magical evening filled with cherished memories.

Getting there at a reasonable time and willing to pay a $50 parking fee, definitely worth it. If you're looking for a restroom, you could walk five minutes due east, go to a whole foods and grab a bite to eat after. It was funny, there was a delay for the Ado concert they happened July 13. But that didn't excuse how much they themselves lagged behind. They didn't set up the metal detectors/evolve machines. The lines were insane and at one point to insane in any direction. It was easy to get out of the venue as well. Take your time going to the bathroom after the concert, most of the traffic is already gone. I'm coming back on Friday, park in the same spot and check out the for at whole foods as well!

Had an absolute blast! First time at this venue and I was really impressed. K-pop concerts can sometimes get a bit chaotic if things aren’t well organized, but this one felt smooth and well put together from start to finish. Great energy, great crowd — definitely a good time all around!

This was our first time to the SAP center for a TXT concert. We have been to the BMO stadium in Los Angeles and the Giants Stadium in San Francisco, but I like the SAP center better. The music was better because it's indoors, you could feel the base. Don't forget to bring your ear plugs. Great Concert !!!

Nestled in the heart of San Jose, Happy Hollow Park & Zoo is a delightful 16-acre destination that combines the thrill of an amusement park with the wonder of a zoo. Since its opening in 1961, it has been a beloved spot for families and young animal enthusiasts alike. Visitors can explore an impressive array of animals from around the globe, including playful lemurs, curious meerkats, and even a majestic male jaguar named Kianto.
Took my 4-year-old daughter to Happy Hollow yesterday and we had such a blast! This place really hits the sweet spot for families with young kids. The zoo portion was definitely the highlight for us. My daughter was absolutely mesmerized by the lemurs, we probably stood there for 20 minutes just watching them play and swim around. The farm animals were a huge hit too, especially the goats that she could pet and feed. The staff was super patient with all the excited kids asking a million questions. What I love about this place is that it's not overwhelming like some of the bigger attractions. It's the perfect size for little legs and short attention spans. The rides are gentle and age-appropriate we went on the little train probably four times! The carousel was beautiful and my daughter felt so grown up riding by herself. The playground areas are well-maintained and there are plenty of shaded spots for parents to sit and watch. Plus the admission price is really reasonable compared to other family attractions in the Bay Area. We ended up staying almost the entire day, which never happens with my preschooler! She's already asking when we can go back. Definitely found our new favorite weekend spot. If you have kids under 8, this place is absolutely worth the trip to San Jose!

This is a very unique zoo. We absolutely loved it! It has a lot of rides especially for young ages and has a lot of entertaining activities. The tickets price is quite decent as well. There is a parking lot across the river and a short walk to the zoo over a bridge. The food in the food court is pretty tasty and priced within reason. There are lots of plants and greenery all the way around which make the zoo even more enjoyable. We loved it and would definitely come back.

A must for little ones. They have a zoo, picnic areas, shows, rides, and a food cafe. My 3 year old loves coming here. They have lots of beautiful play areas and they did renovate a lot of things. Also all the employees from the parking lot, to entrance, guest services, ride operators, and animal keepers were great! Excellent customer service from all.

The overall environment was alright. The capybara was super cute! That said, quite a few animals weren’t there, like the jaguar, red panda, and fennec fox, which was honestly a bit of a letdown... The petting zoo had goats, which were fun to interact with up close. In general, the variety of animals isn’t that big, so if you’re mainly coming to see lots of different animals, it might not be worth it. But if you’ve got little kids, it’s a great spot, since there are plenty of rides and activities for them.
Tina C — Google review
A perfect size park & zoo. Geared more towards under 10; rides, puppet shows, playgrounds, face painting, and small zoo area. The purchased entry ticket gets the kids on rides. Paid parking via machine. Plenty of disabled parking. The rear entrance parking is a bit of a distance from the main entrance so be prepared. Danny the Dragon train was closed for repairs but is scheduled to reopen mide July, 2025. They have amazing helpful staff and an adorable souvenir shop. General Admission: $18. Memberships: Starting at $45 *Summer camps available including overnights at the park *Senior Day (over age 50): Once per month (see City of San Jose). Seniors only enter once per month, 0900-1000, before the general public and can remain for free for the remainder of the day. Free parking for seniors on Senior Day.

Cute zoo with very interesting, uncommon animals, including capybara! Kids friendly. Many tiny entainments for kids and a theater for puppet shows three times a day. The sheep and goats are outside and can interact with guests. Very lovely place for a day trip or half-day trip.

My 4-year-old son really enjoyed all the attractions and carousels! The lines moved quickly, we only waited a couple of minutes for each ride. Great experience overall

This was the first time I've visited with my grandchildren. I used to bring my kids here years ago. The entrance used to be in the front, but the new back entrance has ample parking. I love the new suspension bridge. The price is GREAT!!! To visit for the day it's only $18 a person and children under two enter free. My grandchildren had a great time at the petting zoom and seeing all the different animals. The rides are definitely for younger children. I visited on a Sunday, and it wasn't overly crowded. We didn't have to wait more than 5 min to access each ride. The new trian was still under construction, so we didn't get to do the whole tour. Definitely recommend this place for a cheap, fun experience with younger children!!!

The Roberto Adobe and Sunol House Museum is a significant historical home in Santa Clara County. It was constructed by Roberto Belarmino, a native American, with the brick Sunol house added later by Antonio Sunol. The museum offers an exceptional visitor experience, with high-quality exhibits, restoration work, and informative docent tours. It allows visitors to trace the history of the Tamien people to the Spanish missions and then to the Americans. Future visits are planned to fully explore all the information available.
We were lucky enough to be in town and have time to stop by this historical home! The docents (who are volunteers) are passionate about preserving a piece of important San Jose history, and they taught us so much. Everyone should stop by - and a bonus, it’s free and there is free parking in the back! There are no specific tour times - if they aren’t with anyone else, they will provide you with a tour or you can wander on your own.
Nina P — Google review
Open only two hours on Saturdays (closed major holidays) and very worth it! The two docents on this Saturday were very nice and welcoming, and had a ton of information on the history of the Roberto-Suñol Adobe and the neighborhood. The interior is nicely restored and impressive for such an old building. The adobe itself is set up as an exhibit of how people lived back then. There are plenty of informative exhibit signs on the native Tamien population, Roberto Balermino, The Anza expedition, government, commerce, etc.. that will bring you up to date through history into today. The garden outside contains a large fig tree that provides cooling shade and a delicious fig smell right now. I was told it was the oldest fig tree in California, very impressive. You can wander around outside and see the outhouse and old farm machinery, and you can also sit on benches under the shade of a large pepper tree. It is very pleasant sitting here and relaxing in the garden. The house has air conditioning, and bathrooms. They have exhibits that the kids can touch as well as a stamp of Roberto Balermino's brand that kids (or adults) can "brand" themselves with. This is a great place for for kids and adults. The docents were awesome, it can't be said enough. The fact that the adjacent 280 freeway was supposed to go through the property, but was moved over to save it, means that is available to us to see how life was lived in the past. History could have been wiped away by that freeway, but we got to see it today. You should go too, it is worth it.

Love this hidden gem of Willow Glen! The docents were amazingly knowledgeable and gave us the VIP treatment showing us everything! As a San Jose native, I loved taking a deep dive into our local history!

Excellent tour, the house was perfectly restored, with rooms showing off the history of our county, from Native Americans to the present. The Roberto Adobe was a real treat! There are only two adobes left in the county. Really enjoyed the tour.
Veronica J — Google review
First class interpretive visitor experience. I was genuinely suprise with the quality of the exhibits, the restoration and the docent tour. It is great to be able to connect the dots on the Tamien people though to the spanish missions and then the Americans. I'll be going back again to take a bit more time to read everything myself. Parking at the rear for 5-8 cars. Take the side drive next to the highway. Free.

Mission Santa Clara de Asís, originally consecrated in 1777 by the Franciscan Order, is a Catholic church located on the campus of Santa Clara University. The area surrounding the mission used to be an orchard and is now known for its treelined landscape. The city of Santa Clara was founded in 1777 with the establishment of this mission, which was later incorporated in 1852.
We can to see the mission for 4th grade. I had my son and nephew. This mission has a little less history element than the other mission we went to see. But it's absolutely beautiful and the Santa Clara University was wonderful. I highly recommend that you go over to the museum because the bottom floor has a permanent mission display there where you can read some about the history.

Beautiful mission parish and campus. Sunday mass was very nice. Loved the tile floor and artwork. If I had one negative it would be I wish parishioners that are sick would not come to mass. There was one person behind us that was clearly sick coughing, sneezing and blowing nose. I understand being a good Catholic, but sometimes you have to think about others.

A beautiful mission, the church still holds mass, so be respectful. We loved the grounds and gardens, but our favorite was the art in the church. It's definitely worth a visit if you are in the area or if your kid has this mission for their 4th grade mission project!

Stunning setting on the Santa Clara University campus. More than one rose garden and excellent landscape and greenery. The Mission itself was rebuilt in 1928, but is nonetheless a stunning building in its own right. Nearby walls, lovingly preserved, are from the 1800s. No signage or pretense. Just wander over to them from the Mission Church.

Guadalupe River Park, situated in downtown San Jose, is a charming urban park that spans over 3 miles along the Guadalupe River. It provides an opportunity for city dwellers to immerse themselves in nature without leaving the urban landscape. The park boasts a range of gardens such as a historic orchard, a rose garden with over 2,000 bushes representing more than 150 varieties of roses, and a community garden.
New, clean, free, fun. Just wonderful. When the youngsters grow there will be lots of shade, not alot now.

Decided to walk on this trail, despite the mixed reviews of encampments and trash. While on the trail, around the northern section near Hedding St, an off-leash dog ran out from around a corner and attacked me! It bit my leg, unprovoked and broke the skin. The man who it belonged to (presumably homeless) came after the dog had already bit me twice and got the dog under control. I would consider this trail to be dangerous if you are running/walking, and would not recommend for anyone, unfortunately. Incredibly disappointing that there are no solutions for the hundreds (if not thousands) of people that live along this creek, as it poses a safety risk for community members.

This Guadalupe River Park can definitely use some maintenance!!!! This park is about 120 acre on the banks of the Guadalupe River that stretches along 2.5 miles in the downtown area. It is surrounded by many Tall buildings, various businesses, and many other Historical Shops/Restaurants. A short distance from the popular San Pedro Square Market, Sap Center, Heritage Rose Garden, Discovery Meadow, and Plaza De Cesar Chavez. There are walking Trails, Tennis Courts, bike paths, playgrounds, Shades, Bridges, Benches, Restrooms, and it’s a Dogs-Friendly Environments for the public. I’m sure glad I came here on a perfect peaceful evening where the views are radiants and beautiful!!! A Lovely day right before sunset!!!! I definitely wouldn’t want to be walking around here after dark. Too Creepy!!!!! September11, 2025

By most measures, it wasn’t a pleasant place for a walk. Sadly, there were homeless people on the other side of the road, and the park itself lacked any aesthetic appeal. It felt depressing rather than refreshing :( not pretty at all
Behnoush D — Google review
A short while ago I tried the running trails at this riverside park and found the paths wellmaintained and clearly marked, which made my workout both efficient and enjoyable. The scenic views along the water added a pleasant backdrop, and the overall layout encouraged a steady pace without feeling crowded. Ill likely return for another run when my schedule permits
Kay B — Google review
Very nice park and great little walk but as others have mentioned there is a bunch of trash and people (assumed to be homeless) lurking about. There are a few birds in the many beautiful trees and TONS of ground squirrels. I ran into a couple of Canadian geese and a type of duck I have never seen before with a long narrow beak.
Webvolutionary — Google review
So I walked the park from the SAP center to Coleman. The park is...It's rather depressing really. I saw: 1 - Numerous homeless/mentally ill people. Someone them ranting, screaming, and urinating in the river. 2 - People doing drugs. Though there were no needles on the ground at least. 3- Completely unkempt landscaping, overgrown all over the place. Trees fallen down everywhere (though it's been a rough winter). Little to no tree cover throughout most of the trail. 4- The trails are poorly connected, especially where they intersect with major roads. Having to trek through the tall grass or walk through questionable lots is not what I'd expect from a city park. Where they do have tunnels they are bleak looking. Overall, it's an adventurous park to trek through and photograph. It's almost interesting to see everything so overgrown and desolate. But, as a marquee park from a city as prominent as San Jose? It's shocking how neglected it is. And the homeless/mentally ill really add a lot of tension to what should be a nice park (it's large at least).
Juan P — Google review
One of the best bike trails in San Jose. The park itself is pretty and features lots of space and courts for tennis and futsal (soccer). Sure, you see homeless in some parts but where else can they go? Overall so much potential for beautification. Despite its issues, it's a truly nice park.

Nestled in Mountain View, the Computer History Museum is a treasure trove for anyone fascinated by the evolution of technology. Just a stone's throw from San Jose, this museum offers an engaging exploration of computing's past and its profound influence on our world today. With an impressive array of artifacts and interactive displays, visitors can encounter groundbreaking machines like the ENIAC and discover the stories behind industry pioneers who have shaped our digital landscape.
This is a must see place for people who are interested in technology. The place is conveniently located near google main office complex. You can see the complete history of how computers were invented and their progression to new generation computers. There is a section on robotics which I liked the most. The place also has a coffee shop and a store that sells souvenirs and apparel’s specifically made by them. On weekends sometimes you may see some free entries for specific company employees and families, so please check if you are from a company that is offering a free entry on a specific day or weekend.

The ticket are cheaper if you do a donation on the website. I was happy with the museum, the story of computer development comes from counting and measuring systems and moves slowly to counting and first codes and decoding and moves to devices. I would bring kids in different ages, but go through museum together, so they will see the full timeline.

The computer history museum is a must visit for anyone that uses a computer. That’s everyone! Seriously, if you haven’t been and you live in the area, make the time— the “revolution” exhibit alone will take the entire day and if you go on the correct day, you can have the pleasure of seeing the PDP-1 come to life. They turn on the IBM 1401 daily and will print you a fun memento on a 1402. Check the times for guided tours, you will not be disappointed! The docent are amazing and passionate. Still not sold check their calendar. They have regular events called “tech fest” the most recent of which was 90s themed and they brought out the museum of art and digital entertainment from Oakland for playable 90s video games. There was even a 90s dance party on the lawn complete with Skip-it and all the 90s jams. Plan a visit and learn something new about the tools that surround us and power our modern lives!
Mason Y — Google review
If you care at all about where modern computing came from, this is a must-visit. The Computer History Museum offers a near-encyclopedic sweep of computing’s evolution — from abacuses and early mechanical calculators to mainframes, personal computers, software milestones, and beyond. The artifacts are real, many rare, with detailed context. The storylines are well-curated: hardware, software, social impact, all woven together. Highlights: the IBM 1401, the Babbage Difference Engine, classic gaming and electronics, well-done interactive displays. Staff are knowledgeable and engaging; docented tours add depth. The layout gives space to breathe, read, reflect — not just dash through. Some caveats: Exhibits are often text-heavy; if you’re not already interested you may find yourself skimming. Also, to truly absorb everything — you need at least 3-4 hours, more if you want to dive deep. Overall: it delivers serious educational and aesthetic value. Worth every minute and every dollar.

It was way more interesting than I thought. Even my kids enjoyed it. Definitely has a wealth of information as well as interactive displays. I was only able to see half the museum in two hours. I went two hours before closing. Wish I had gone earlier in the day.

The Japanese Friendship Garden, nestled in the heart of Kelley Park, offers a tranquil escape from the urban hustle. This 5.5-acre oasis is a symbol of peace and friendship between San Jose and Okayama. Modeled after Okayama's renowned Koraku-en garden, it boasts traditional Japanese architecture, including a charming red arch bridge and a serene koi pond.
While waiting for our baseball game to start, we wandered over to the City of San Jose Japanese Friendship Garden to see what it was like inside. It was peaceful and has wonderful old garden features. Many of the water features are now dry but it is still very lovely. There is one pond left with coy and water plants. There is a tea room available for events that looked lovely and perfect for small gatherings. I would recommend taking a stroll through this historic garden park. I’m glad we did.
Denica F — Google review
I was excited to bring my baby to celebrate her turning 10 months at a park I hear has amazing cherry blossoms. A park said to represent the friendship of the sister cities our San Jose and Okayama Japan. Well it seems the friendship needs a little attention. First of the ponds have no water except the one in the back with the coy and seemingly booty water. I love the look and peaceful decor throughout the park and house on site looks like a space for meditation or something. Highlight definitely was seeing a family of ducks and little chicks. So cute I have never seen this up close in real life and when I inched closer to get a photo the mom or dad looked at me with their eyes warning me of a parents dedication and protection and I let them be. Lowlight was that I pulled my daughter in a wagon and I would not say it is wheelchair friendly park because I dangerously had to pull her in her carriage up a hill. Thank god she was buckled in or she would have tumbled out. Parking lot on site and the pay station was broken so it was free. I did change the spot where I parked initially because there was a troublesome lady drinking a 40 in the parking lot so I moved close to a bus that was parked there and I figured he would see or deter any funny business. Overall a great day and experience and I will be back again in hopes of water in the ponds and to look at all the beautiful flowers.

Some of the water in lakes is already dried out and only a small portion still has water. It's a small loop and only takes around 20 min to walk. There are very few people around and the park is pretty quiet. Good for a relaxing walk after visiting the zoo nearby!
Yirui Z — Google review
The park is lovely for a walk and relax. However, the pond near the red bridge and a huge turtle stoned was dry and seemed a bit neglected. Once you get to the koi pond, though, you can really see the beauty of the place - the koi are huge and the color are beautiful. There's also a Japanese-style house, which was closed during our visit, but the surrounding park area offers plenty of space with BBQ pits and seating, perfect for gathering or a quiet afternoon outdoors. Dogs are not allowed.

Such a gorgeous garden, it's definitely worth a visit! I was disappointed to see that most of the water features were drained, although there is an intact kou pond in the back. There's a lovely tea house that was closed up when I was there, with some bamboo around it. Very peaceful and pretty. I hope they fill the water features again one day!

Still in need of major repairs, only one pond left with some of the original coy fish 🐠. 2018 San Jose city flood wiped out the pumping system for the ponds. Very few visitors when we were there.
Rob H — Google review
My wife and I visited San Jose from out of town. This place was mentioned to us as a must-visit. It was a letdown. The garden part was completely dry. The restrooms were gross. The koi pond was the only body of water and even then the water level was low, the water was brown and dirty. Just not a good time all the way around.
Carlos G — Google review
This has turned into a staple of my visits to San Jose. I love the tranquil, serene, Japanese vibes that this Garden gives. The layout goes into each different sections with it's own magical feel. From the majestic redwoods, to the koi pond, to the cherry blossoms, to the bridge, each area provides a reflective quality and meditative opportunity. Great for taking pictures of flowers, plants and landscaping, the garden provides a memorable and relaxing experience. There is no fee other than the parking, but you can make a donation in the main building. And for the cost of parking, you can visit the little zoo and an old village recreation. So, it's definitely worth the price. The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is that every time that I've gone, there has been no water, except for the koi pond. I'm not sure if it's due to drought restrictions, but I can imagine how much more spectacular it would be with water flowing through all the channels and filling the lakes. Still, it's a beautiful place to come and relax, with someone special or on your own. This Japanese friendship garden will always be a part of my San Jose itinerary. Come check it out and maybe make some new friends

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history of San Jose at History Park, operated by History San Jose. This outdoor museum spans 14 acres and showcases meticulously preserved buildings and artifacts from different eras, offering a glimpse into the city's past. Wander along Market Street to explore historic structures from the late 1800s, including a blacksmith shop, firehouse, and print shop.
We went here for the Christmas lights drive-thru on Christmas eve so the line to get in took at least an hour. I was grateful not to drive to another city to enjoy this holiday tradition. Seeing the park with all the different museums - Vietnamese and Chinese among others made us want to go back during the day. Years ago, we came here for a Sriracha festival but parking was tough. It is definitely a treasure to have this kind of park in San Jose. An open space with lots to explore.

History Park offers an immersive step back in time, featuring beautifully preserved historic buildings, engaging exhibits, and interactive experiences that highlight California’s rich heritage. The park is spacious, making it easy to explore at a relaxed pace, whether you're visiting for a casual stroll or attending a local event. One of the highlights is the annual Scout-O-Rama, a well-organized gathering of scouting troops from around the area. The event showcases hands-on activities like firetruck demonstrations, archery, and pinewood derby races, providing a great opportunity for learning and community engagement. Even outside of events, visitors can enjoy historic trolley rides and museum displays, making History Park a fantastic place for families, school groups, and history enthusiasts alike. The setting is peaceful and scenic, offering plenty of open spaces for walking and photography. Checking the event calendar ahead of time is a great way to plan your visit around special programs, guided tours, or seasonal festivals.

This place is amazing, especially with the vintage cars today. There is a lot of nice people, and some of the long time people putting this on, they dress up in the early nineteen hundreds. These old cars are amazing. History park looks amazing as well.I would love to go back when the park is open, and all the buildings are open

I came here for "Cars in the Parks" and it was pretty cool! Owners of the cars came dressed up in the time periods their cars were from! Too bad I couldn't stick around for the Ford Model T assembly and race. Tickets for the event and the parking entrance fee are separate! If you come here on a weekday, you'll see someone broadcasting from one of the buildings. There are museums dedicated to the Chinese American, Portuguese-American and Vietnamese-American experiences, and Black Smith displays along with a Rail car museum and print shop, as well as a vintage ice cream & candy shop. Heck, this place has a lot that gives you an idea of how San Jose was at the turn of the last century!

I use to live in San Jose over 12 years ago. I didn’t realize this town had so much history. When I came back last week so much has changed with new buildings , stores, and restaurants. So I decided to go back to the roots of this town. I did not realize a lot of the settlers we’re Portuguese. I’ve been to that country and I can see a resemblance of what looks like San Francisco in Lisbon, Portugal. But a lot cleaner in Portugal. I would highly recommend visiting that country too! I went over the weekday on a Monday which 99% of the buildings were closed. They only open the buildings on certain days. I think it was the weekends. But I do recommend going to take date or if you’re into getting to know the city and explore what looked like the city of San Jose.

Beautiful park which incorporates buildings brought from around the Valley which highlight Santa Clara County's past. And the working trolly, carrying visitors to and from the parking lot, was a lot of fun. The park would have been even more interesting if the buildings were open for viewing. I understand staffing shortages, but walking around the park, just looking at the exterior of buildings gets boring fast. If it wouldn't have been for the antique car show going on, we probably would have left after half an hour. Also, having food trucks is a great idea, but perhaps having more than two for special events would be better.

The San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles focuses on the art, craft, history and creators of quilts and textiles. The museum has an expansive inventory spanning from historical garments to contemporary textile art, making it one of the most unique museums in the United States.
Their permanent collection is quite beautiful. And the exhibitions always bring new charms.
Rajarshi C — Google review
This place is very welcoming. The staff are super friendly and genuinely happy people, and they were honestly the highlight of visiting this museum. The reason for my 3-star review is that there were no quilts on display, which was the sole reason why I went. I understand that exhibits rotate, but I feel there should be a year-round staple of quilts on display in at least a small part of the museum since "quilts" appears before "textiles" in the title of this establishment. I always support the arts, so I don't regret going. I was told there will be quilts coming in September, but I live in OC. There was ample street parking when I went, and you don't need more than an hour inside (it's a small museum).
Sana S — Google review
Great quilt museum with an excellent selection of quilts. However, while I see the value in spacing them out so they stand out more, I would appreciate if they display more quilts as their collection is much much larger.
Ian — Google review
The highlight of my trip to the Bay Area! It is on the smaller side, but incredibly well curated. I spent over an hour here. Your mileage may vary depending on your level of enthusiasm for textiles. I especially loved "You May Recognize Yourself," a show of mostly monochrome sewn portraits of women seen from the back, made of household textiles of the type that may have historically been found in a dowry, like tablecloths and bed linen. I did indeed recognize myself. Recommend for everyone who enjoys art, textiles, sewing, or crafts.
Laurel C — Google review
Small museum featuring thematic exhibits, all quilts during our visit. The Quilt National '21 works were featured, along with a few other pieces. Some were visually stunning, others with gorgeous handmade textiles or even paper, still others displayed incredible quilting craftsmanship. Most artists specified the meaning or message of their work, which deepened out appreciation. We took our time, then visited the gift shop (quilts, jewelry, scarves), bought stuff, in about 1.5 hrs. Worthy of a visit. We used our local library's 'Discover & Go" program and visited for free, but funded our visit with purchases.
Chiucat A — Google review
Whenever I am in CA I made a trip down to San Jose specifically to see the quilt museum. I don't quilt, but I do collect fabric art and own quilts from the 1880s to now. Each show is worthwhile. I admire the creativity of the various artists and what they make. Not all are quilts. They normally display some of the historic quilts along with the contemporary fabric art. It's a small museum, so go down the block to the other galleries. Then see the San Jose Art museum and enjoy the restaurants in the area too. Christmas in downtown SJ is an annual event.
Diane B — Google review
Tiny and VERY compelling. I don't really know how to deconvolve the particular exhibits that were there from the museum at large, as it's my first time, but their choices of exhibits were absolutely phenomenal. The pictures simply don't do them justice, but they all had a presence of their own, saying and whispering and singing and showing you lifetimes of stories.

Nice little textile and quilt museum on First Street. Parking has meters that still take coins or cards. Didn't need much only put a half hour on meter and that was sufficient They have a small gift shop Admission $10 They offer discounts for students, teachers and seniors They change out pieces every few months

This Sikh Gurdwara is the largest in North America and can house 10,000 people. It has a big ground which is properly maintained for your parking and you can even organize any social function here.
I recently visited San Jose Gurdwara, which was a truly peaceful and uplifting experience. The architecture of the building is stunning, with its golden dome and intricate design standing beautifully against the hillside backdrop. Inside, the atmosphere was serene and welcoming. I was particularly moved by the sense of community and devotion among the visitors. The langar hall was impressive, offering free meals to everyone regardless of background, with delicious vegetarian food served in a clean and organized manner. Volunteers were friendly and respectful, and everything was maintained very well. The prayer area was calm, providing a great space for quiet reflection. Whether you’re spiritual or just appreciate cultural experiences, this Gurdwara is a must-visit in San Jose. It’s not just a place of worship—it’s a place of peace, service, and unity. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience Sikh culture and hospitality firsthand.

A serene & divine place of worship for Sikhs is open for all irrespective of their religion, cast, creed & gender. The peaceful environment adds to the divinity. One can sync in the divine recitation of Shree Guru Granth Saheb, meditate & attain eternal peace of mind. We had the blessings here & had lungar (free lunch offering). The overall cleanliness, sense of spiritual consciousness, selfless service of the carsevaks (volunteers) are all so admirable. A must visit place in San Hose.

We visited the Sikh Gurdwara in San Jose on a Sunday evening, and the experience was truly peaceful and grounding. The evening kirtan was in full flow, filling the entire space with a sense of devotion and serenity. We sat for about 15 minutes, immersed in prayer—it was exactly the kind of spiritual calm we needed. Afterward, we received Prasad, and it was the most amazing, blessed sheera Prasad—warm, comforting, and made with love. We also saw the Langar Seva in action, and what stood out was how open and welcoming the environment is. You can even go into the kitchen and volunteer to help, which adds to the sense of community and purpose. Absolutely loved the entire visit. We will definitely be coming back—such a beautiful place to pause, reflect, and connect.

Nestled in the Gold Rush-era village of New Almaden, south of San Jose, the New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum showcases the local history of cinnabar mining and the extraction of mercury.
And incredibly well done museum that deals with the mining operations during the 1800s in that area. Well worth a visit.

Visit the nice gift shop too.

Must visit!! The local volunteers are, themselves, the biggest reason to come to this small, remote piece of Californiana. Warm, welcoming, enthusiastic story-tellers all, & offering literally first-person, primary-source history, because they were there, & this is their community. Unbelievable just how critical this mining area is to history & heritage. Very family friendly location, coupled to a pleasant back garden available for picnics & scheduled events. Free, donations welcome. Plenty of parking.

I figured all the goods would be out on the trails and that I wouldn't want to spend a whole lot of time in the museum. Wow, was I wrong. I really enjoyed listening to one of the volunteers explain in great detail all the history, equipments, and politics of the time, answering any question we could throw her way - and then some. Definitely worth a visit if you've not been and you're in the park!

Friendly, well informed guide. Beautiful drive past farms and forests enroute. Pretty house (named Casa Grande), well thought out and executed exhibits with plenty to see, hear, read about how quick silver was mined, used, and affected the people involved. Historic, scientific, and social stories of workers, owners, equipment, and technology. Antique packed front rooms showed how homes were furnished and decorated way back when. Gift shop had cool stuff to help entertain and teach kids. Cost is free, but a modest $2 donation is suggested, and well worth it for families or school groups.

I've lived in the San Jose area for 20 years and never realized this museum existed. We went for my son's 4th grade field trip and I loved it so much that I would definitely go back and would also recommend it to others. The museum is very informative about the mining process and the history of the area during that time. They have a lot of displays and an area that describes the typical day in the life of a miner. A portion of the museum has been decorated in the time frame of that era so you can see how the mining manager might have lived as he sought investors for the company. We also had a picnic lunch on the grounds and did a brief walk around the town to see some of the old homes and the graveyard. It was a lovely day and a fantastic field trip.

Childhood memory for my kiddos wish all the rides where available but with short staff only a couple where available most animals have died so kids didn't get to see the main animals, looked super sad all the animals nothing felt alive like before 😔 the last time we here here was 8 years ago. Children still had fun we had our picnic but wish the wild life was updated and remodeled.

As a nearby resident, I finally visited this park today and wondered why I hadn’t come sooner. The grounds are impeccably clean, very safe, and beautifully maintained. Dogs on leashes are welcome, and admission to both the main park and the Japanese garden is free. Although I was initially hesitant because of concerns about safety but rangers patrol the entire area to ensure everyone’s safety—and I didn’t encounter a single issue. I highly recommend this spot for a lovely walk or a family picnic.
Ruchita U — Google review
As of June 2025, the structure and vestiges of landscaping are still there, making it a pleasant park to meditate or take a stroll in. But if you’re looking for the exquisite beauty of a meticulously kept Japanese garden, it’s not here anymore. Word has it that Koi fish thieves and a flood did a lot of damage and sufficient funds haven’t been acquired to restore it.

The place is beautiful, with lots of family parties or friends gathering. I did see a minimal amount of homeless, but they do have park rangers patrolling some areas. We got a nice spot under the trees even in the hottest day they have a massive amount of trees to keep you cool, bathrooms are my biggest compliment they are not maintained well at all other then that a good place for a walk or a family party.

Very quiet, serene place to visit in San Jose area. A small pond filled with big gold fish with various color fish swimming around just waiting to be fed. It's a great family outing place to visit.

Beautiful park to go play disc golf in. Lots of squirrels, and a fat hawk flying around. Great par 3 disc course, not to hard, good for beginners and for veterans. Multiple tees depe depending on your skill set. This park has a great playground and next to the historical park. Nice place to visit.
Cyd G — Google review
A fantastic free Disc Golf park! I love coming here and having a relaxed game of Disc Golf on the free 21 hole course. It’s a really nice break away from the hustle and bustle of San Jose and great to let some steam off and launch some Discs! The course is volunteer run, and is kept in great condition, and the holes vary from time to time. There are multiple nets/hole for different skill levels, and also a long and short tee point. If you get 2 or 3 discs you will be good to go - a long range, mid range and a putter. Definitely worth a trip! There is a lot of ground squirrels around the site, which are really fun to watch - but just be careful you don’t turn your ankle stepping into a hole!

I recently attended a concert at this venue and had balcony seats. The view from the balcony wasn’t bad at all, and the sound quality was great. However, our friends who had floor seats—despite paying significantly more—were disappointed. Their section was all on the same level, which made it hard to see the stage clearly. It seems like the layout on the main floor could use some tiering or better elevation to improve visibility.

Tons of great memories here!

sound was good, not soo loud like other venues, it wasn't hot also which is very important in a closed concert. Just the guards were to uptight at first, trying to control the everyone and keep them on their seats, but later they realized this was a Molotov concert and not classical music, so they had to move aside or be eaten by the jumping crowd. Good place, good vibes.
Max C — Google review
It is one of the nicest venues No matter where you are seated you can see the show very well. And the sound is very clear
J M — Google review
Smaller venue with folding chair floor seating and balcony seating. Sound quality is good on the floor, and the stage is mostly visible from the back, though the lack of an inclined floor makes the view dependent on your height and that of those seated ahead of you. Security line moves well and the staff are courteous and efficient. Merch line has an element of hard sales at times, something I had not previously experienced at a show, but not overly so. Most of the time there is ample parking nearby, but if there's another big event at the convention center across the street, then be prepared to hunt for parking further away from the venue.

Church
The First Unitarian Church of San Jose, designed by George W. Page in 1891, has a rich history dating back to its congregation's first meetings in city hall in 1866. The church's Richardsonian Romanesque style withstood the 1906 earthquake and served as a shelter for the injured. It also housed San Jose's first day nursery organized by church women.
I’ve been a member since 2002. We started a monthly open mic. It’s 6-9:30 pm Next dates are Dec 10, Jan 7 and March 4. From April 2023 it will be on second Saturdays. Come play or listen sometime.

Long time member with our own personal blood and sweat in that vintage building and love for those found in it. Respect for those who founded it. The building has a state historical marker on it, built in the late 1880's long before the rest of downtown grew up around it. UU is not for everyone, but if you want a faith community and feel that you just don't fit in with the mainstream, you might discover that you have always been a UU.

One of the three most attractive, historic churches in San Jose. Beautiful domed sanctuary, complete with stained glass. Built in the 1890s and still going strong with a very active, engaged congregation. 3rd Street Community Center also located here, in the basement.

A congregation that walks it talk and is intentionally multicultural, anti-racist focused and learning, liberal religious denomination with room for a cross section of religious and humanist beliefs. Actively community focused, social justice and community engaged. FUCSJ has active programs for families, singles to seniors with an enthusiastic choir and a variety of programs for head and heart. Inclusive and welcoming for LGBTQIA. A historical church with modern engagement.

Historical landmark
El Pueblo De San José De Guadalupe Historic Site is California's first civil settlement, established in 1777. Lieutenant Jose Joaquin Moraga led 14 settlers to found the pueblo near the present civic center. The site offers a glimpse into the city's humble beginnings and its evolution into a vibrant urban center through captivating images from the 1800s and 1900s. It's a discreet yet historically significant attraction that appeals to history enthusiasts.
Something simple but nice to see. Discrete but historically and turistically cool -for history geeks, at least.

Architectural Buildings
The current City Hall in San José, California, was completed in 2005 and is a postmodern masterpiece designed by Pritzker Prize-winner Richard Meier. The complex cost almost $400m and is situated at the two-block San Jose Civic Plaza. This complex is a departure from the flamboyant Beaux-Arts city halls found in other cities and it has been praised for its clean lines, lack of ornamentation, and international style.
The beautiful LED aperture matches the rhythm of the music. It is a city hall with a very artistic atmosphere and design.

Come down here on November 5th to see this light tunnel at night time. I can’t wait for the opening of the new Starbucks across city hall neither. By the way the mayor Is on the eighteenth floor, come up and say hi.

rude help desk, no department knows what they are doing, not answering emails and phone calls, not accepting walk ins. if you need anything done be sure to start four months in advance to account for the 5 weeks it takes to simply figure out what department you need to talk to first.

Nice night views and safe place for walk around here in downtown.

I thought they served me quickly, at least a 20-minute wait, but I was wrong, terrible service despite the fact that they have more than 20 windows and only one is open😮 and here they have me waiting for more than an hour and what I need ☹️😖

Private educational institution
San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin is a serene and welcoming place known for its gold-plated altars and intricate carvings imported from Japan. The temple offers a warm and friendly community, with Sunday services that provide insight into the specific type of Buddhism practiced there. Additionally, the annual Obon celebration attracts Taiko groups from all over the state, offering delicious food, arts and crafts, and a sense of cultural immersion.
This is my favorite temple, it is always open, and there are also many cards there that you can take for free!! Also, where the seats are, there are books (as I understand it, something like prayers or mantras). But it was empty and there were no people. I also noticed that they offer free cheats, but it was empty :(

Beautiful inside and out, services are beautiful. It's open often when there are street festivals, just follow their web page and you can see what's going on. They have Buddhist educational materials in the office if you are curious. The smell of the incense inside will trigger deep childhood memories, and it's a lovely, peaceful, place. Finally, I am forever indebted to Rinban Sakamoto for introducing me to the shakuhachi flute. Years ago, I was an an adult Buddhism class there and was talking with another student, saying I'd tried just about every instrument "except maybe the shakuhachi". Rinban Sakamoto surprised us by handing each of us a PVC beginner shakuhachi that he'd made personally. I knew if I covered all holes I'd get a low tone, and had an idea how to bend the tone, which I did. My reaction: "Wow!" If it were not for Rinban Sakamoto, I may not have been introduced to the shakuhachi for years, if ever. It *is* difficult to play, but rewarding in a way very few instruments are. I don't know how active the shakuhachi club is at present, but Rinban Sakamoto is a wonderful teacher and all heart.

Located in the heart of Japantown San Jose, the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin is a beautiful and culturally rich temple that offers both serenity and history. The temple itself is stunning, with a traditional design that invites reflection and appreciation. Step inside and you’re greeted with a warm, peaceful space filled with intricate details and spiritual beauty. It’s especially wonderful to visit during the Obon Festival in July, when the temple grounds come alive with food, dancing, and community celebration. Whether you’re attending a service, exploring the architecture, or just taking in the atmosphere, it’s a meaningful stop that captures the spirit of Japantown.

I really enjoy obon Festival at Japantown in San Jose! Food is good and price is pretty decent! Lovely time there! Almost everything is cash but they have ATM at a very affordable and reasonable charge!

We visit the temple during the Obon festival! Unfortunately, we were late and it was closed. It’s absolutely stunning inside. Worth the trek to Japantown during the Obon festival.

Taiko groups come from all over the state to help celebrate Obon in San José. Lunch sold in the hall (with AC!) benefits local non-profits and is fantastic - teriyaki chicken, ramen, strawberry shortcake, cold drinks. Arts/crafts all day and free tea at JAMSJ museum, and stroll down to Nichi-Bei Busan to see what they are up to.
