Café del Mundo, located on Calle Sagarnaga 324, is a charming coffee shop in La Paz that offers more than just great coffee. Founded by Elin, a Swedish traveler who now calls La Paz home, the café is designed for fellow travelers to gather and share stories and travel tips. The menu features delicious breakfast options available all day long, making it a popular spot for Belgian waffles even at 3pm.
Really cute and bright café in La Paz! We went for breakfast/brunch but the menu really does have something for everyone. We ordered the shaksuka and Swedish hash and the portions were massive and the food was delicious. Really decent price for the quality and quantity of food! Staff were attentive and had excellent attention to detail and customer service was second to none! Definitely drop by if you’re in La Paz!

I honestly don’t get the rave. The interior is lovely and the atmosphere is nice, but service was really slow—even though our waitress was kind. We waited around an hour for our food, so definitely don’t come starving. The coffee wasn’t great, and while the cakes were okay, the Snickers one was the standout. As for the food, it was disappointing considering the wait—it didn’t taste very fresh and came out at different times. I even felt a bit unwell afterward. They also said they took card, but when it came time to pay, they couldn’t.
Jennifer P — Google review
Cool concept! They serve different cuisine from different countries. They have coffee and pastries as well. The potions are humongous, and the price is very reasonable. Great option if you need some food options.
EMERSON I — Google review
I had tasted at least 15 different items from the menu and they were all really good. The servers are nice and the place has a nice vibe to chill. I guess menu is on the more pricier side of La Paz but not too much, and it’s definitely worth the price.
Topazm_ — Google review
Lovely chill atmosphere in the busy city, amazing coffee and food! Highly recommend for a breakfast/lunch. Staff were lovely and could speak english which helps! We ended up going again because it was delicious and we knew the good quality food we would get!

Very nice selection of foods and very affordable. All day breakfast available and good size portions.

Sadly have very bad food poisoning (both people who had the Bali bowl). In turn this has ruined the rest of our planned tour in Bolivia, would not have expected this from a place like this but should have looked at previous reviews.

Confectionery store
Salteñas Diablo are a popular snack in Avenida Arce, Sopocachi. These small pastries, filled with meat (though vegetarian options are available), olives, and slices of boiled egg, are sold at side stalls throughout the area from 9 am to noon. They're known for their spiciness and delicious flavor. While the location may have changed, the salteñas continue to be exquisite and affordable.
Really enjoyed the spicy chicken Salteñas.. went back for seconds!

(Translated by Google) Terrible attention, poor quality service, they disrespect you, they are even arrogant after you are kind and pay for the service. What's more, after a wait of more than thirty minutes and they yell at you that they can give you your money back, they don't organize themselves and serve as they want, yelling at the customers. (Original) Pésima la atención, el servicio de mala calidad te faltan al respeto, incluso son prepotentes después de que uno es amable y paga por el servicio. (Translated by Google) I ordered the spicy chicken, which is now 10 bs. I liked the dough, but the filling is disappointing, as it's clear that, to cut costs or increase profits, half is pure juice and the other half is just potato and a few other medium-to-small pieces of chicken. The flavor is fine, and the spiciness is quite spicy if you're not used to it. I think there are better salteñas compared to what I mentioned (filling/jigote ratio and chicken size).

Restaurant
Located in downtown La Paz, Bolivia, The Carrot Tree Centro is a popular spot among health-conscious travelers. This new addition to the city offers a menu filled with nutrient-rich and low-fat options such as pasta, salads, and sandwiches. The restaurant boasts an eclectic collection of Bolivian-inspired artwork that adds character to the place. With its rooftop location providing stunning views of the city skyline, this Irish-owned establishment also offers great brunch options and vegetarian dishes.
We came here for brunch and were really impressed by the extensive menu—lots of options to choose from! I had the Full Breakfast with extra avocado and it was really good. The coffee was surprisingly great too, and they had soy milk which was a plus. Service was alright, though it would’ve been nice to sit upstairs. Still, for the price and portion size, it was excellent value and kept us full all day!
Jennifer P — Google review
Had a lovely brunch / afternoon tea here. Hidden away but worth the find. Great food and gluten free options too. Service was friendly.

Excellent stop! Was meandering through all the touristy shops and accidentally found this place. The restaurant is located on the second floor. You have to go into a building of shopping stalls to get to this restaurant. Was greeted as we entered and was given menus in English. The restaurant was clean and cutely decorated. My husband and I shared a beer, coca tea and a grilled chicken, avocado bacon sandwich with small seasoned round potatoes. The food and interactions were excellent! If you found this post useful, please hit the useful button.

What a gem! Delicious vegan options and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Had the vegan breakfast platter that was quite filling and the pancakes. They were able to make them vegan, without egg and soy milk, they were like clouds! Sooo fluffy and delicious(mine were made with all purpose flour)! They also have the option to make them gluten free if necessary. Their lemongrass tea was a very nice surprise, very fresh and flavorful.
Yuriana L — Google review
The best place for breakfast in La Paz!! They have something for everyone (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free etc). The food is great and also good value for money. It's a nice place to chill and they have fast wifi as well. 10/10 service too!
Hannah S — Google review
50min wait for our food!! The desert (pancakes) had burnt parts and came with our main dish so by the time we started eating it, it was dry and we had to get an extra maple syrup for it to be edible. The best is to go to this place when there’s not a lot of people otherwise you might get a bad experience.
Chloé G — Google review
I think the main selling point of this place is the view. The food was large but didn't taste as good as I anticipated it to be. Staff speaks English. Overall I think there are better places to eat for cheaper
Guiping X — Google review
A truly lovely spot, amazingly located with a stellar view of the city on the upper level. The food is very generous in portion size (my partner had the pique macho and took some home), and very flavourful. We came here many times during our stay in La Paz. Got one of the breakfast / brunch platters and they kindly substituted the ham etc for really nicely cooked tofu. The fruit and granola was a perfect mid afternoon snack, and the huancaína pasta was super yummy. The brownie was good but the true dessert star is their maracuya / passionfruit cheesecake -- mind-blowing! It's a great place to spend a chill afternoon or grab any meal -- there's never any pressure to leave, and the vibes are just great. Already miss this place!

Cafe Typica is a popular coffee shop in La Paz, Bolivia. It has a unique interior and serves delicious coffee drinks. The cafe is open from dawn to dusk and has a great selection of books for visitors to read.
A great cafe with a beautiful and spacious inner patio and amazing coffee. They have a great menu for food as well. The breakfast options looked great, however we just tried the empanadas and the lemon cheese cake, all of which were delicious. The flat white and cappuccino were also really good and the mint lemonade was great too. We really enjoyed the atmosphere as well. Overall a great spot for food and a coffee, especially since they are open in Sundays!
Paul O — Google review
Really cute place; groovy, retro style. Heaps of space inside and in their courtyard. I’ve eaten here a couple of times, the food is ok, not amazing but, a nice comfy space. The empanadas are their star dish. I tried the jamon ensalada, a jamón y queso sandwich and the desayuno tipica as well as empanadas. All lack a bit of seasoning. I’ve only tried their moccamaster coffee and they added too much coffee so it wasn’t nice and smooth. However, friends have had flat whites and cortados and enjoyed them. The juices are yum and freshly made and you custom make them. Worth coming to see, the pastries sell out so come early if you want one!
Ilaria S — Google review
Stopped here for some coffee and it was delicious. My husband tried it in v60 method and it did not disappoint. The place is so quaint and cozy, perfect to enjoy a cup of coffee with a fireplace going. Unfortunately they do not offer non dairy milk options only whole and lactose free cows milk. I would’ve loved to have breakfast there but the vegan options (if any) were very limited, maybe the oatmeal made with water instead of milk or the vegetarian sandwich without cheese. I would gladly come back if their menu were to become more inclusive of different diets.
Yuriana L — Google review
One of the best spots in Sopocachi to grab a bite, have a coffee and / or work! The menu offers great options and delicious food. The decor is awesome with outdoor seating (heated if necessary, La Paz nights can be chill). I loved it and came back many times, since it's a great food guarantee. Stop by, you won't be disappointed!
Nathalie P — Google review
Wow!!! Both the suculente & charque sandwiches were 10/10 but charque reigns supreme iykyk. The chorizo plato especial was a highlight for me - it still crosses my mind frequently. The coffee is also good. A hidden gem on the streets of La Paz - I hope to be back one day ❤️
Laura X — Google review
The food was just awful . We ordered avocado toast with eggs and a meat sandwich. The avocados were rotten – brown, soft, and had a bad smell. The eggs were not fully cooked, and the meat sandwich had no taste at all. We also ordered a mochaccino, but they brought something that tasted like cheap cocoa from a machine – nothing like real coffee. We told the staff we were unhappy with the food, but no one offered a discount or even said anything. It seemed like no one spoke English, which made it worse. Overall, it was a really bad experience. The food was low quality, the service was poor, and no one seemed to care. I do not recommend this place at all.

Alexander Coffee is a popular chain with multiple branches in Bolivia, offering a familiar and comfortable setting for friends to catch up over an expansive menu of pastries, sandwiches, salads, and Mexican specials like quesadillas and burritos. The cafe is known for its nice coffee and pastry selection. It's praised for maintaining good biosecurity measures as of February 2021. With friendly staff and reasonable prices, it's a great spot for breakfast or casual meetings.
Wonderful experience! Great location. Lunch for 3 people. Delicious burritos and smoothies for everyone. $15. Go there now!!

Update: changed from 3 to 4 stars. The second time was better, they had a selection of cakes and I can recomment the "pecado chocolate". They also let me order coffee without sugar - you can ask without sugar but you still get the super sweet syrup and the default sweet vegetable cream haha, terriible xD. Summary: too sweet and too pricey. Not that great, and quite pricey. They did not have any cakes, and the various coffes cannot be ordered without sugar
Rok C — Google review
Very nice coffee and pastry. I had a no so great experience with hot food (nachos) that is why I won't give 5 stars. As of February 2021, it still has very good bio security measures, which is a great plus (most places have relaxed too much). Employees are very helpful and quick, it is generally near full of people, but not crowded. Also, since they have other locations near by, you can also check those if it is full. The menu is large so you can revisit many times to try some new items. I strongly you to try recommend the spinach croissant

Love Alexander! The food is always good and service is great. They have live music on some weekends, and the guys where good! Their sandwiches are great, but their BBQ chicken quesadilla are awesome! Their coffees are better than average. If your an American looking for a menu you’ll recognize this is your place.

Alexander Coffee is the best and most comfortable place for having breakfast with your friends. They have many branches  in La Paz city. Although they offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, their speciality is coffee because this is the first product that gave them popularity. If you want to have a meeting you can go to Alexander coffee because  the place has a good ambience and is comfortable. This place is located in a beautiful space in the South area of the city. When I went there I ate fresh fruit, juices, nutritious smoothies and a vegetarian sandwich and it was delicious. Moreover  the service is respectful and polite. I recommend this place to everybody if you want to eat with your friend or if you have a formal meeting.
Miriam A — Google review
The coffee shop that started it all. The original. The OG. The trendsetter. This is the place the began the true wave of coffee shops being in every single corner of Calacoto. Alexander Coffee has been a real blessing for the city, that eventually turned into a case of study in many renowned local universitites due to it's business model, but also because of it's ability to innovate and maintain quality across branches. This particular branch is my favorite. You have the option to seat inside, but try to get a table outside by the willow trees. Your order is ridiculously customizable. I'm sure that even if you ask for a sandwich with no bread, they'll be able to accomodate. Expect top notch quality, great service, food that's delivered fast, but also made to your taste, a large enough menu for either breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or dessert. The only reason I'm giving it four stars in food it's because it is lacking in the alcohol department. If this place would update their drink menu, it'd be a party.

Great Lebanese food and shisha pipes. Smokers area available. The waiters are super nice and friendly and the place is really cozy.

Once a good cafeteria, they are now in the restaurant business. They offer a decent lunch at a fair price. Spaghetti Alfredo is to be avoided. Not the best experience.
Pedro S — Google review
The place is quite nice and has friendly service! The meat was cooked very well, nice and tender and the flavours were nice. The chips seemed like package chips though and the place isn’t much to look at inside and the price was a little steeper than usual but still a very nice meal

Food was not special and pricey. They charged 10% of tip without even asking me.
Claudio L — Google review
Very slow service, difficult to understand menu, mediocre food, and high prices with small portions. It’s open on a Sunday night though, and was the best option in the neighborhood. Stuffed grape leaves were good, hummus was good with a very small portion, and kebabs were very salty. Would not recommend to friends unless they’re stuff in the neighborhood.
Angie F — Google review
A very simple but comfortable space for a good meal to the taste of everyone. Falafel is well prepared with no excess neither on the salt nor on the spices. Opens Sundays!!!

Well, in my opinion Cafe Beirut Restaurant is a good place where you can go with your friends to eat Lebanese courses. It not only offers a variety of desserts, but also has different beverages that could have alcohol or not depending on the preference of the customer. In addition, if you like to smoke you could love this place because the restaurant has a smoking area. Finally, this place has excellent service, but it's true that the prices are more costly than other food places.

Customers have praised the delicious food, particularly highlighting items such as chantilly cream, vegan tofu toast, falafel, lentil burger, French toast, and ginger sun drink. Incredible cafe away from the touristy area of La Paz! The coffee was amazing and has won some awards here in Bolivia and South America (you can buy beans and grounds here as well). Very creative menu of vegetarian dishes, we tried the wrap and the mushroom gyozas and both were really good. The maracuya cheesecake was great as well. The service was very friendly and helpful and explained the origin of the coffee we were drinking. Overall an amazing experience and we will for sure be back when visiting La Paz!

As a former barista, I can say that this is one of the best coffees I’ve had not only in South America but anywhere in the world. The flat white isn’t just another cappuccino or latte and has the right amount of froth which is perfectly shiny and it doesn’t separate from the coffee until your last sip. The sandwiches are a work of art and absolutely delicious. Service and attention from waiters is top notch. The place is beautifully decorated and very spacious and allows for privacy. Can’t wait to come back for more.

We’ve visited dozens of coffee shops around the world, and this one truly stands out as one of the best — no exaggeration. The interior is beautifully designed with a modern, chic vibe and incredibly comfortable seating. We had the avocado toast and pancakes, both of which were absolutely delicious. The Flat white and Cortado were also among the best coffees we’ve ever had. I highly recommend this place — an absolute gem! ✨

Flea & Street Markets
Mercado Rodríguez, also known as Lanza or Camacho markets, is a vibrant and bustling marketplace in La Paz, Bolivia. Here, vendors in colorful traditional dress sell a variety of goods including fish from Lake Titicaca and potatoes from the Andes. The market offers everyday dishes like Chairo soup and is especially lively on weekends when it spreads out over surrounding streets and squares. Visitors can sample Api, fresh fruit juices, exotic fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, and more.
We enjoyed this authentic mercado so much more than the touristy witches market, totally different experience. No souvenirs to buy, at least not on a weekday and the cholas don't like their pictures taken. We were utterly charmed and found prices fair.

Beautiful market. Mostly eatable things but still very nice. Wish we had some thing like that at home.

This is a must see if you are visiting La Paz. The market itself is quite large, the women wearing their traditional dresses are stunning and the place is busy and vibrant. Lots of vegetables, fruit, seafood and meat. Worth the walk here.

Green market. Fruit and vegetables mostly. A good part of local market to find fruit, vegetables, fish and egg. I enjoyed my time exploring it. During weekend it even gets bigger and more crowded
Zahra B — Google review
This is one of the most genuine experiences you will have in La Paz. The market is enormous, outdoor and indoor shops and kiosks, literally on the street, selling everything you will ever imagine. The market is not organized, there are no sections, and the best way to find what you will need is either by asking or walking up and down. People are very friendly and sweet, there is no risk whatsoever.

An O.G. Street market made for the locals by the locals. You can find any kind of meat, fish, vegetable, fruit, and anything else you can think of. A great experience in La Paz!

I love going to Mercado Rodriguez: fresh fruit, veggies, great meat. I tend to prefer afternoons as its a lot quieter and empty. Having a casera is the best. I definitely recommend going to this market, so fun and such a wide variety of products. The best!! Also great for buying cleaned fresh fish.

Alexander Coffee is a popular chain with multiple locations in Bolivia, offering a familiar and comforting stop for travelers. The menu is extensive, featuring a variety of pastries, sandwiches, salads, as well as Mexican specialties like quesadillas, flautas, and burritos. The cafe is known for its friendly and efficient service, making it an ideal spot to gather with friends. Customers praise the quality of both the food and coffee at Alexander Coffee.
Either at the Prado or the airport branch of this Cafe you won't be disappointed. Not only the food and coffee are good but also the service.. Servers are among the top ones considering all the restaurants and cafes I visited in Bolivia, specially taking into account customer service is not a priority here because people is not used to give tips. Don't misunderstand me though people in general is quite kind.

Alexander coffee is a very nice place to drink a cup of coffee and have a nice chat with friends also they serve cakes, muffins, croissant, and all I have tasted have been very tasty. The coffee they serve is made in Bolivia, by the way Bolivia produces a high quality grain of coffee which is also exported so it's very recommended. Hope you enjoy like me 😊☕

This is a really lovely cafe with a lot of potential. My husband had their coffee and I tried it, it was so delicious! One of the best coffees we had in South America. I ordered a green juice which was very good as well. Now to the food, receiving eggs Benedict with raw eggs on top is a big NO. We both ordered the salmon eggs Benedict and the eggs (especially the egg white) were raw. This is not a poached egg, please take it off the menu until you know how to do it. I saw more bad reviews about the eggs Benedict with raw eggs on top. As you can see on the photo I tried to eat it, only because I was starving. I tried to seperate the eggs from the rest, but i couldn’t continue. You should never serve a raw egg on top of a cold dish! The only tasty thing was the salmon and avo, bread tasted old. When I mentioned it very friendly before paying, one of their staff apologised for it but then charged me the full price and didn’t offer anything else. The service in general is ok, but can definitely be friendlier and more attentive.
Ina C — Google review
This place is good, but I couldn’t find anything that would make it special. Coffee is nice, sweets (cheesecake and red velvet muffin) were average. Sandwiches were good, served with lots of potatoes. We liked cheese balls snack. Overall, I can recommend the place, if you are looking for coffee only.
Olha B — Google review
This place has a variety of options all the way from coffee, to teas and juices, to breakfasts, pastries, soups, salads and sandwiches. The ambiance is warm and nice as is the attention. Their food is well made. However, they don't bring all the orders at once and all together, so that can sometimes make your food cold while you wait for something else. Sometimes they have forgotten certain things that come in a certain dish (such as cheese in a breakfast), but if you let them know what you're missing they'll fix it. The following dishes are a roaster breakfast and a babyccino with a ham and cheese croissant 👌🏻
Natalia S — Google review
An exquisite cafe that prepares specialty coffee properly and professionally. Their rotating seasonal coffees and quality light and medium roasts are packed full of flavors that only Bolivian coffee can offer. The butter croissants are on par with ones I’ve had in Paris. I highly recommend stopping by and trying some of their coffee if you’re a coffee snob.

The worst carbonara i have ever had. Salty and weird taste. The staff just act like we are stealing their wifi signals, required us to order food before providing us the password. Bad impression for our first meal in La Paz.

We are a family traveling from California and had coffee at this shop on New Year’s Eve afternoon. We experienced an very disturbing encounter with a white man who harassed my husband in the restroom with racial hatrate raging. The man might be drunk and continued drinking beers after the incidence. Basically he said to my husband that he hated people from US, China and Japan regardless “where you came from”. And he almost began physical attack. Since the man behaved very violent and dangerous, We requested to speak with the store manager and would like to call police to remove the man from the coffee shop. But no action was taken from the store management, not even walked to speak with the man to check on his status. So we had to walk over ourselves to make sure the man was under check by his two companions and don’t want him to follow our son to restroom to continue his crazy behavior... The real Bolivia people are hardworking and kind people we have met everywhere. We don’t know where this man came from but we’re very dissatisfied by the coffee shop management.

The only one 24/7 coffe shop-restaurant in whole La Paz City! And this feature is the main reason I give it 4 stars. This one bussines gives La Paz a sense of metropolis, instead of a town, specially from 22:00, when the majority of the restaurants are closing. With various sitting options on two different floors, it offers a nice ambience and accepts credit cards. While prices may be considered high by local standards, the experience is deemed worth it.

Good food, drinks, and desserts. It has probably the best indoor playground for kids in the city. Exceptional service at all times. An atmosphere like no other. The music is always very fitting and musicians even go to play for the grand public. The seats are very comfortable and make the longer dining sessions very comfortable. The food can sometimes get out of hand with some prices, as I believe there are some better spots that get more bang out of your buck, but none will have the beautiful atmosphere of Brosso. Whether it's a small lunch with the family or important business meeting with cocktails, Brosso is always the place to go. Great location too, places at the core of the city. If one isn't feeling very hungry, the ice cream is alwaya a great option, either inside or for the walk. The cakes are some of the best in the country, only perhaps rivaled by Michelin's cakes. It's worth at least one visit for anyone visiting La Paz.

Nice cafe and good service. Outside they have 3 tables where you are not allowed to smoke and on both sides of those 3, you have 5 or 6 tables were you are allowed to smoke. That is stupid as a none smoker I do not want to sit between smokers at anytime. Would have been 5 stars if it was done better - could be smokers at one end (to the left) and none smokers at the other.

(Translated by Google) Small but pleasantly decorated environment where you can eat very well-made empanadas at a reasonable price. Perhaps the only bad thing is that they reheat them in a microwave oven and that takes away a lot of the flavor. (Original) Ambiente pequeño pero gratamente decorado donde puedes comer empanadas muy bien elaboradas a un precio razonable. Quizá lo único malo es que las recalientan en horno de micro ondas y eso le quita bastante al sabor.

(Translated by Google) Elegant and themed cafe where as soon as you sit down they invite you a glass of sultana, I tried the cappuccino and I thought it was very good along with some fried ham and cheese empanadas, the quiet atmosphere to work for a long time and the staff with fine attention, good WiFi Internet signal. For the cold ones there is heating.

It's an ideal place for families with children and teenagers, featuring an exclusive area for young kids and a variety of board games to keep older ones entertained. The wait time is enjoyable thanks to the entertaining activities available. The food is described as exquisite, with finely prepared dishes that cater to even the most discerning palates. Additionally, they offer a delightful selection of desserts.
(Translated by Google) We loved it! Excellent to watch the children play while you eat something delicious, or even play with them if there is space. There are books, costumes, many educational toys, a little shop, stuffed animals, hats and the best in a closed and warm environment. Carpet floor and Eva rubber on top for the little ones and they provide anti-slip socks. It has 2 different comfortable environments. Bathroom adapted for children. Everything we tried was delicious! (I recommend the bagels and wedgepops). Fast and courteous service. Definitely a place to visit and/or return to with the little ones in La Paz. (Original) Nos encantó!
