Cathedral
Catholic church
Located in the heart of San Cristobal de las Casas, Catedral de San Cristóbal de las Casas is a stunning architectural gem that dates back to 1528. The cathedral's baroque facade and gilded altar are just some of the features that make it a must-see attraction in this cultural capital.
An imaginable experience with beautiful mixto culture. Where Spaniard vibes mets Mexicsn culture. An amazing city that most definitely fell in love with
Juanita — Google review
Historically significant cathedral that has some great artwork depicting various saints, but otherwise very plain. Outside the church are numerous venders giving the location the feel of a festival during the weekends. While there is a road up to the cathedral, I found the lengthy switchback stairs in the front a great challenge and exhilarating exercise.
Michael F — Google review
The main church on the Dan Cristobal. About 300 years old. Lots of shops and coffee places, shopping area around it. I did the walking tour from here.

Incredible piece of history. I had the bad fortune to visit this place after the devastating earthquake of 2017 and it was closed but the facade remains a powerful sight.

Iglesia de San Cristóbalito is a small red-and-white church located on top of a hill, offering panoramic views of the city. To reach the church, visitors must climb around 200 tree-lined steps. The area surrounding the church is home to several famous museums, including Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya, Museo del Ambar, and Museo Mesoamericano del Jade. It's recommended to visit during the day due to safety concerns at night.
Beautiful decoration. I'm assuming this is a seasonal thing, so I would not expect to see it like this all the time.
Jorge G — Google review
Great view over San Cristóbal - for the most part. Unfortunately, trees block the way in all directions except to the front where the stairs are. Hence, it is not really worth it to go up here for the sunset. Yet, the church is a beautiful landmark which is well worth a visit - during the day. Also, for the fitness enthusiasts, the stairs are a great place to go for a work out in the mornings. You’ll love the view even more after having finished all stairs ten or fifteen times in a row… ;)
René S — Google review
Very nice hike, if you choose to go thru the Sierra instead from the city side. The place is peaceful and beautiful. Provides a complete view of San Cristobal from up there.

One of the most special places in San Cris. It's generally quiet, a wonderful place for meditation, yoga, exercise, sitting with friends.
Jo J — Google review
Beautiful walk up, not a lot of view from above.
Ori A — Google review
The kids counted 280 steps. Good! We did our math for the day. Haha, joking. Trees cover most of the view but it was still beautiful, quiet and sweet. You could also just drive up but if you can do the steps then just do it.
Wannabe W — Google review
Great exercise because it is quite a climb! The view is pretty great once there. Walk around the back of the church to see the communal gardens from above.

Catholic church
Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán is a historical complex in San Cristobal, featuring a church, former monastery, and regional history museum. The church's pink stone facade showcases Baroque Solomonic style with intricate carvings of saints' figures, angels, and grooved columns. Visitors can explore the open-air crafts market surrounding the church and shop at Sna Jolobil for traditional weavings by local women artisans.
One of those "must" stops in San Cris. The outside is stunning and marvelous. The inside takes your breath away because it is all covered on gold. Next to it is the traditional hand crafts made from indigenous people of the region, so all of you see is worth the price and it's value in culture.
María G — Google review
Nice church from the outside. Not always open and the way towards the church... mind your wallet, you will spent money on the souvenir market 🤣🤣 we went back twice and everytime my wallet was emptier than when I went

Keewi H — Google review
Beautiful church but hard to appreciate at the moment. Closed off for renovations and you can't go inside (just like the cathedral). You can't even appreciate what's left to see from the outside, since the surrounding areas normally belonging to the church are now fully "squatted" by the "artisanal market".
Jogchem G — Google review
This Church was restored and is one of the most beautiful on Chiapas. The monastery with its church was built in the 16th century, with the monastery secularized later. The church retains its original function. The building with two courtyards was restored between 1999 and 2002 to become a community and cultural center, with the Museo de la Laca, founded in 1952, moved inside to take up much of the upper floor. This museum contains about 450 pieces from various parts of Mexico and Asia, mostly made in the 20th century. The complex also contains halls with permanent and temporary exhibits along with an auditorium and various types of workshops. The former monastery complex was built along with the Santo Domingo church on a small hill overlooking the Grijalva River, in the second half of the 16th century, attributed to Pedro de Barrientos and Juan Alonso. The church portion is one of the best preserved from the 16th century in Chiapas. The former monastery is behind the large church with two main courtyards. It was secularized during the Reform War with the church retaining its original function. It underwent its most recent restoration between 1999 and 2002 in order to make it a community and cultural center for the city of Chiapa de Corzo, with the Museo de la Laca moving into it. It, along with other facilities and operations, is managed by the Consejo Estatal para la Cultura y la Artes of Chiapas (CONECULTA). The entire building is officially called the Casa Escuela de Tradiciones but it is most commonly called the Museo de la Laca, although this museum only takes up most of the upper floor.

The Museo Mesoamericano del Jade, located in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico, is a museum that showcases the significance of jade in Mesoamerican history and culture. The museum is housed within La Casa del Jade, a cultural center known for its expertise in jade.
Amazing museum, definitely worth a visit even if you don't have much time in San Cristobal. The pieces are beautiful, the presentation is on point and the accompanying information is quite interesting
Antoine P — Google review
Very interesting geological and cultural / anthropological displays of the history of jade in Mesoamerica. The English option is a simple booklet with translations of the signs. However, in the extremely dark exhibit halls, it's nearly impossible to read and to match up with the maps and artifacts. If you're lucky, you'll see a craftsman working but there is no interaction or explanation and, as much of the machinery is very loud and their have headphones and we don't, it doesn't encourage you to linger and watch. There was a sign advertising free Mexican liguor tastings but nothing was offered. Many options for purchase. Worth a short visit for good overview.
Zoe D — Google review
The museum was quite an interesting place to visit! It had a wide array of fascinating exhibits that captured my attention. However, I found it a bit disappointing that the guide provided all the information at the very beginning of the tour and then simply left us to explore on our own. This approach made it challenging to fully appreciate the details and context of each exhibit as we moved through the museum. Despite this, there were still many cool and intriguing items to see, which made the visit worthwhile.
Wattle B — Google review
The museum has a lot of potential and there's still some space to improve, that's why the 4 stars!
Karnishe — Google review
Enjoyed our visit to this museum where you will not only learn about jade but also about how various cultures used and appreciated the gem. Quite interesting. The museum store sells real jade so don't expect street and market prices. Low entrance fee. Allow one to 1.5 hours.
Carlos R — Google review
I don't know why this place got low reviews. It was small and yes, the pieces are reproductions, but it was highly informative and a fascinting blend of mesoamerican and geological history. They even had an English booklet to translate all the signs. There's a replication of Pakal's funeral tomb at the back which was also beautiful both for history buffs and the casual visitor alike. The gift shop was very expensive but treated like an extension of the museum (especially with the live, built-workshop) it was lovely to look at. Plus you get a discount at the Kakao museum with your ticket from here which makes for a nice afternoon combined.
Marta B — Google review
Lots of pre-Columbian examples of jade statues, masks, figurines. Worth the 30 pesos. Much more than the pics posted.

Arco del Carmen is a charming 18th-century archway located in the heart of San Cristobal. It stands as a historic entrance to the village and is adorned with colorful papel picado throughout the year, creating a picturesque sight, especially during Day of the Dead and Christmas.
I was there meeting a tour guide, my guide me a history lesson from the steps. Very interesting location with a number of things happening at the same time. Art , dance, and weaving!

The Museo del Ámbar is a captivating educational museum located in the ex-convent of La Merced, showcasing a stunning collection of amber jewelry, art, and fossils. With over 350 classified pieces on display, visitors can explore the origins of amber, its formation, extraction process, commercialization, and historical as well as contemporary uses. The exhibition is complemented by informative texts, certificates, photographs, and videos providing a comprehensive understanding of this precious stone.
5 stars due to the best tour guide we could have asked for. This precious baby’s name is Ámbar. When we were on the first floor she showed up and then walked to the stairs to tell us to go up. And when she showed us the displays and waited for us to finish looking. Price for museum is about 30 pesos per person. Worth it due to the cat in my opinion. She lets you pet her.
Ana C — Google review
A little disappointed, I read it was supposed to be a 3 hour visit but in reality it has very few pieces. The place is beautiful and the few pieces and specimens there are also beautiful and special however I would have liked more information on the trees and production, shaping and polishing. There is a video playing in loop with this information but I would have liked more hands on information.
PAULINA T — Google review
This museum is a brand new museum, the building was a convent and an army station. About the ambar collection is significant and almost the information about how important ambar rock is important in Chiapas state. The visit is worth it, and entrance money is visible because the building is going through reconstruction.
María G — Google review
I can't spend hours and hours in museums, especially when I have my teenage children with me, so this one was perfect: only $50 pesos to enter, and it has one large room with plenty of amber on display (see photos in other reviews) and enough information to tell the story of amber, from it's composition and formation, to mining and uses. It's definitely not overwhelming, but informative enough to know a bit more about amber. The videos were not working when we went through. The shop was very extensive as well, and didn't seem expensive. They also provide a certificate of authenticity with each piece we purchased. I love that they are restoring ex convents and housing museums in them. This ex-convent is being restored by a civil association and depends on donations and the entry fees of the amber museum to continue their efforts. But it's also cool to see the one finished side and the unfinished side opposite.
Vanessa A — Google review
Beautiful collection of amber in a gorgeous convent currently under renovation, located in a charming hilly neighborhood.

A Must-Visit in San Cristobal. This museum is in a historical building convent. It keeps the most Amazing unique Amber collection with pride and care. If you are curious to see (or purchase) this million-years old rock this is a great place. We have visit the workshop and discussed with the artists that worked on the pieces and its director and curator. It was a great and authentic experience. We highly recommend you visit this place.
Eddy F — Google review
The Museum is very nice For a reasonable ~50 MEX pesos you can have a look at tons of beautiful pieces of amber, including fossils and intricate sculptures, there is a english brochure that they give you ( if you ask) and that helps for non-spanish speakers.
Eli D — Google review
Nice, compact museum dedicated to Amber. Most of the focus is Chiapas. They also discuss the global history and use of amber. The building is historic which used to be a convent then later a prison. Fee is inexpensive, less than 2 USD. Allow at least an hour or 1.5 hours. Nice shop which includes certificate of authenticity. Staff is attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. Learn here before buying on the street or in the market. Spend a few minutes watching the videos at the end of the exhibit.

Nestled in the heart of San Cristobal, the Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya is a vibrant museum that celebrates the rich tapestry of traditional textiles from Mexico and Central America. This cultural gem boasts an impressive collection of over 500 hand-woven pieces, with a special focus on Chiapas huipiles and tunics. Visitors can explore not only the stunning displays but also delve deeper by opening drawers filled with additional striking examples of textile craftsmanship.
An absolutely amazing museum! I have almost no interest in textiles and I was blown away. The first floor is original examples of textiles (which are amazing) and all sorts of artifacts. The second floor is modern examples of clothing from different areas in Chiapas. Sprinkle in beautiful artwork throughout the museum. And the building is stunning. The market outside is beautiful too. All this is free too! Do Not Miss This Experience!
David P — Google review
An Outstanding Textile Museum – A Must-Visit for History and Culture Enthusiasts! I recently had the pleasure of visiting this incredible textile museum, and I can honestly say it exceeded my expectations. Best of all, entry was completely free, making it accessible to everyone. The museum is packed with a diverse range of exhibits, showcasing the rich history of textiles from various cultures and eras. Each display was thoughtfully curated, offering fascinating insights into traditional craftsmanship, techniques, and the cultural significance of textiles around the world. The building itself is a stunning piece of architecture, adding to the overall experience. Its elegant design and historic charm create a perfect setting for the exhibits. Unlike some other museums like the jade and amber museums, which often feel more like shops selling souvenirs, this museum is dedicated solely to education and preservation. It offers a genuine, immersive experience that truly highlights the artistry and cultural importance of textiles. Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply looking for an enriching day out, this museum is definitely worth a visit. It’s a wonderful place to learn, appreciate craftsmanship, and enjoy a peaceful stroll through history. I highly recommend it to anyone passing through the area!

It's a nice, informative museum in an impressive building with good view of the city. I recently took a sewing course, so there was plenty of colour, stitch and pattern to study. I was there around 4pm on a Thursday, and I was the only one inside.

The "Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya" was an amazing experience. We came on a Sunday so the admission fee was free (0$ only on Sundays). It was a beautiful collection of textiles and artifacts from Guatemala and Mexico, I spent hours looking through their amazing collection of fabrics and weavings and quilts.
Eli D — Google review
If you want to learn about San Cristobal's history this is a good place to start. They have in exhibition ceramic sculptures of the first civilization in the state also they have artifacts from the Spanish Conquest, but the best and my favourite part is the Textile exhibition, it's not a big exhibition but it has a lot of different textiles from Chiapas and from Guatemala.

FANTASTIC museum! One of the best museums dedicated to textiles I have ever been to (and I have been to many in many countries). Iglesia de San Juan Chamula, located just a short drive from San Cristobal de las Casas, is a must-visit destination. This unique church seamlessly blends indigenous Tzotzil Mayan traditions with Catholicism, creating an unforgettable experience. While it may appear like a typical church from the outside, stepping inside reveals its distinctiveness. Visitors can also explore the nearby village of San Juan de Chamula and immerse themselves in its cultural offerings.
Inglesia de San Juan Bautista, in the indigenous town of San Juan Chamula. A very quaint church with attractive yet simple ornamentation. Inside is very intriguing where the local natives practice a blend of Catholicism and carried over Mayan beliefs. There are no pews inside, just some kind of green dyed plant material spread over the tile floor. Plenty of statues of the saints of course and hundreds of candles burning while Indian women in particular are kneeling and praying on the floor with their chickens and offerings. Healing and other rituals go on in there too. It would be a National Geographic photographer’s dream, ha ha, but out of respect no photos can be taken. I did sneak one shot from the very back of the church.
Matthew S — Google review
Architecture not outstanding but inside very interesting as this community retain rituals, combining traditional beliefs and Catholicism which is unique . No photos allowed inside the church. No photos of people within the village boundaries(unless at distance by general inclusion) Lots of candles lit in the church, floor strewn with pine fronds, beware floaty dresses/palazzo trousers ! Visited as part of a group tour. Specialist leatherwork on display in the shops.
Musicians M — Google review
I had a super great experience overall! The atmosphere was fantastic, and everything exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the entire visit even more enjoyable. However, one downside was that videos weren’t allowed inside, which was a bit disappointing because I wanted to capture some special moments to look back on. Despite that, the memorable experience more than made up for it, and I’d definitely recommend it to others.
Wattle B — Google review
i was here as a part of a day tour from san Christobal. Good experience as it show cases a culturally different community and still not touristy. it's a living community with a different culture but so close to the city of San Cristobal. the church is open to all and the rituals are wellcome for all to see. photography is not allowed inside the church though
Ram V — Google review
Very Interesting! I have never seen anything like it! There was a large festival happening, so, markets, music and the church left such an impression, with the dark interior, smoke, incense, hay strewn everywhere, chicken sacrifices. This is definitely a must see!
J D — Google review
When people say it is an unique experience, they meant it. This is the story of a people who fought for its right to freedom of belief and stood against the Spanish, the Mexican nationalist forces, the Catholic Church and the state - and won. Don't treat their customs like it's a freak show. Everything here has a deep meaning behind.

Very very interesting church and community. You can go here yourself or you can get a guided tour at 9:30am from San Christobel de Las Casas, that will also take you to Zinacatan and explain the customs and their differences. The tour I took leaves from the cross in the main square at San Christobel every morning and you can just show up. Cost was 250 pesos and the guide was incredibly knowledgeable and his English very good. Many other tours have no guides or no English spoken. This was a great opportunity to learn about the Mayan culture as it still lives today.
Andreas B — Google review
Yes, it is authentic, but somehow also feels like just another charismatic town, and with not much to do there. We visited the church and then went for a healer (shaman) session. The church is interesting as combines many religiones and exhibits roots to very old beliefs. The healer thing was quite weird, as the guy could not really tell us what did he feel on us in terms of energy , or advice… he just gave the same comment to each of us, which made it feel as a bit of a scam. I’d definitely skip visiting chamula as Chiapas has plenty of other places worth spending more time on than this town.

Casa Na Bolom is a unique and remarkable destination in San Cristobal, housed within a 16th-century colonial mansion that once belonged to renowned explorers Frans Blom and Gertrude Duby Blom. The property, which also functions as a museum, restaurant, and hotel, is located in the peaceful Barrio del Cerrillo neighborhood.
We loved exploring this renovated hacienda of Danish Swedish explorers that did incredible work with the indigenous people of the region. This couple was so inspiring and you could literally feel the passion for their life's work in their desk and chair. A must visit museum when in the area!
Katie B — Google review
I visited the museum, not the hotel. Although the museum is quite small, I spent about 30 minutes there. The exhibitions are well-curated, with information available also in English, and the building itself is beautiful. It's a nice spot if you have some spare time, but not a must-see in my opinion. It's conveniently within walking distance, and you won't need much time to explore it. Restrooms are available. A side note: it would be helpful if they could separate the museum and hotel on Google Maps to make reviews for each more distinct.
Patrick — Google review
I went to visit the museum, and it is a truly amazing experience. The place itself is wonderful. Every room with information and pictures is delightful and, of course, to learn about all expeditions that Gertrude and Frans made to the Lacandon Maya Jungle is incredible.

Very interesting hotel with a deep history of indigenous people! It's a bit far from the city center, but it's worth staying there and supporting indigenous business! Price is very reasonable! Don't forget to check out their museum, back garden and chapel

Wow! You have to check out his museum and garden. The fact that they also have a small cafe and restaurant in the middle that is so quiet is just a bonus.

Lovely little museum! The story of the owners is truly inspiring. Recommend to anyone interested in the indigenous culture and history of Chiapas 🙏
Salomea E — Google review
One of my favorite little museums and gardens in San Cristobal. Wonderful place to meander and learn the history of this inspiring Swiss woman (and a bit on her Danish husband) and of many of the indigenous people they befriended and advocated on behalf of from the 1950s onwards. The gardens are a lovely place to sit in or to wander and be inspired. There is a small hotel and restaurant and a few other options here, all of which are on the grounds and in the original house where this couple and their adopted Mexican daughter lived and worked for decades.

Came here to see SanCris sunset so sat at the patio. Great view and drinks are reasonable. Extensive selection of tea. We checked out the vintage looking theatre, so cool, if there’s English subtitle I would go watch a documentary about Zapatista for sure.

Kinoki is a truly stunning place to see sunset. They have a wonderful tea selection and great service. Their food is okay, not bad my any means but certainly not going to be the best food in Mexico. It's truly a wonderful cultural space to support local artisans and community while also enjoying the gorgeous landscape that San Cristóbal has to offer.

I got just in time to find out a movie was about to being, we ordered Ham & Cheese Sandwich which was pretty good and drinks, started watching the movie with the complimentary popcorn and they brought the food to us. Definitely a good experience!

Their patios and especially the rooftop patio are the real stars here. They have a good tea, coffee and drinks menu. This is a favorite spot of mine to enjoy drinks and the view. The food is okay. Good pizza seems difficult to replicate in San Cristóbal. Service is usually attentive, prices are fair. I would recommend the drinks and the view.

It struck a perfect balance between being engaging and manageable, allowing for a satisfying session without feeling overly exhausted or overwhelmed. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the activities were well-paced, making it an overall delightful experience that I would definitely consider repeating in the future.

It's a fun place to say you've seen. The steps are daunting but if you have limited mobility you can take a cab to the top and walk down. I've been told if you climb the steps with sincerity in your heart you can ask for a miracle. Inside is the Saint wrapped in ribbons for each miracle requested.

Nestled in the heart of San Cristobal, the Museo de la Medicina Maya offers a captivating glimpse into the rich tapestry of traditional healing practices from indigenous cultures, particularly those of the Tsotsil and Tseltal communities in Chiapas. This museum showcases an array of exhibits that delve into various therapeutic techniques and medicinal resources used by local healers. Visitors can also explore a beautiful garden filled with diverse medicinal plants, enhancing their understanding of natural remedies.
A very cool museum that also takes an activist approach to talking about the thievery of indigenous practices. Though small, it shares so much meaningful info - and for 25 pesos you cannot go wrong!

Not too big but very informative and highly interesting museum on mayan culture and medical practices. Highly recommend to use the paper guides (available at the entrance in different languages) which brings lots of useful info. It is very cheap and worth it! Also recommend to take a cab from the center to reach it as the museum is not in the best part of the city.

Great experience . We walked around for more than an hour , looking at work from artisans from Mexico and Guatemala . Some make things right there, especially people with Jewelry. If I could give 0 stars I would. Never have I seen a staff so committed to making the guests have a poor experience. They have rooms next to the kitchen and to the cleaning supply closet. At 6am they start banging outside of the room, upon kind request to stop, they never apologized and said they need to operate the (empty) restaurant. Then the gardeners at 7am started banging, again we went to ask if they could kindly do that later, they said yes only to have it one minute later redone. I went to reception to complain again, said we would need to change rooms if we were to stay, they said no problem. We tried to get a few hours of sleep, at 12.30 we went to reception to have the room changed and they said we could go to another hotel but we would be charged the entire stay as it was after checkout time. I showed them the messages where they confirmed the room switch, but nothing. The hotel has beautiful crafts textiles in the reception, we tried to book a tour of the indigenous towns with them specifically asking to see this. Again they confirmed it was possible to then book us in the most expensive tourist trap, exploitation at best of the indigenous people paid like actors to perform for tourists. We said we didn’t want the same company, which I came to learn had 3 stars on google, to take us to Palenque the day after. They said they would refund us for the tour, only to take it back the day after. There are a lot of beautiful hotels in San Cristobal, this is only a missed opportunity

You definitely should try the Eggplant Parmesean, it was sooo good that I am for sure going back to have it once more before I leave Chiapas. For desserts, I loved the cheesecake and lemon pie 🍋, but if you were to choose one go with the Lemon! It tasted amazing!!!

Best Hotel Experience in ALL of Chiapas!!!! I brought my mother to Mexico to celebrate her 77th birthday (was her first time visiting Mexico) and the staff at Casa Lum went out of their way to make it special and an unforgettable experience. All of the staff from check in, housekeepers and restaurant were so genuine and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and relaxing, the rooms are spacious and well designed, and the food was amazing. My mother and I felt so welcomed by everyone and we felt very at home during our stay. I also arranged a massage for my mom via the hotel and they sent a wonderful gentleman named Pedro. My mother says it was the best message she’s ever had. Back in April I received devastating news that I have stage 4 cancer and honestly I wasn’t sure this trip was even going to be possible…thankfully I was able to take my mother on this trip and with the help from the amazing people at casa Lum….this really was a once in a lifetime trip. It will always mean so much to my mother and I and if I’m able to next year….we will return to San Cristobal and Casa Lum. I have so much gratitude for all of the staff at Casa Lum, for they truly are the best!

Out of the five hotels we visited, this one stood out for its stunning design, cozy rooms, peaceful courtyard and the library was a nice touch that made it hard to leave. The staff was AMAZING —so warm and attentive. They made everything about our stay comfortable and effortless, always going above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The food at their restaurant, LUM, was delicious, and the location is perfect—close to town but still so relaxing. The Hotel Bo in Chattanooga is a great place! Starting with Ericka in reservations and working at the registration desk. She is so helpful and friendly! Then, April in the breakfast nook is very friendly. The manager Dale, is without a doubt the most engaged hotel manager I have met. The restaurant at Hotel Bo has been a favorite of ours since our first visit to San Cristobal. In the past we were delighted by the quality of the food, the ambiance, and the service. Sadly, our last dining experience at Hotel Bo was one of the worst we’ve had in some time, mostly due to the terrible service. Kakaw Museo del Cacao y Chocolateria Cultural is a tribute to the rich history of cacao production and chocolate in Chiapas, Mexico. Visitors can explore the process of making chocolate from growing the crop to producing the final product. The museum also features its own chocolate factory where visitors can indulge in various forms of chocolate. Additionally, there's a small cafe on-site for those looking for a quick bite.
Came here twice on my trip. First time for a museum tour. The museum is small but has really cool history and info about cacao, the history that cacao has with Mayan culture and what it has become. Second time I came for chocolate workshop, which I highly recommend. You get to make your own chocolate disc to take home and understand why high quality chocolate is hard to find and the danger of cacao beans (facing extinction risk). Roxanna, my tour guide and also workshop manager, is amazing! She is the only one besides owner speaks English. We also get to taste a lot of different kind of chocolate there.

The most impressive part of the trip, Don Sergio has dedicated the majority of his life to help the indigenous people in many capacities, as a dermatologist healing wounds (looks like diabetes is an issue among them bue to the excessive consumption of Coca-Cola), building wells and teaching the locals about health care. He acquired the items in the museum over the years.

Fantastic! Dr Castro has an amazing display of Chiapas village costumes, and an excellent slide show of local Festival days. More than that, his commitment to helping burn victims and other sick people in the villages surrounding San Cristobal is phenomenal. Go! Don't miss it!

one goes here to meet and talk with sergio castro, a true hero for so many. sergio has been the savior of so many burn victims in san cristobal and communities around this colonial city. he gives selfishly of his time, money and energy to help those who would be left to be scarred from their wounds a true saint for so many. the re is also an excellent collection of traditional clothing, but alas in a sad state of preservation.

Nestled within the historic walls of the former Santo Domingo convent, the Museo de los Altos de Chiapas offers a captivating glimpse into the rich tapestry of highland Maya culture and colonial history. As you wander through its ground-floor gallery, you'll encounter an impressive array of archaeological artifacts alongside displays that reflect life in Chiapas from the 17th to 19th centuries.
This is a really well curated museum with some local history on the ground floor and a lovely exhibit of Mayan textiles with great explanations of their history and process upstairs. It is housed in a beautiful 17th century former convent, adjacent to one of the most exquisitely retired churches (at least the facade) I have ever seen.

(Translated by Google) Downstairs is this museum that has some interesting pieces and upstairs is the textile center of the Mayan world. In my opinion, the lower part could be more modern and have more pieces. What I didn't like is that the people who work at ticket sales kept shouting (without exaggeration) throughout my entire journey downstairs. They were laughing and shouting while they didn't let me concentrate to read and see what they had, I think. that the staff should be more cautious (Original) La parte de abajo es este museo que tiene algunos piezas interesantes y arriba es el centro de textiles del mundo maya. The best hamburgers in all San cristobal I've been in cancun but not taste like this, if you try it you'll not regret. They have a menu for lunch and dinner but the prices are so cheap they have to raised for that tasty hamburgers and all the food. The hotel is one of the most beautiful places of the city. Amazing architecture, with painted details all over the building. The room is beautiful and quiet. The breakfast is very tasty with many options, and great service. The staff is very friendly and useful. The location is perfect, very close to the centre and safe neighbourhood. We loved the proximity to San Cris. Enjoyed this hotel alot. The room we had was on the smaller side, but we chose the room:) They have added on over the years to make it a great hotel. Would absolutely recommend staying her in San Cris. Excellent pricing and about 3 blocks from the city center.

I overall liked my stay in this hotel, particularly the location (central but in a quieter street) and the balcony of our room, facing the church and with sun most of the day. Also everything was very cleaned and the room seemed pretty new. What I didn't like is the bed, pretty hard and uncomfortable - at least for me- and the staff of the reception that was not particularly helpful when we asked questions or support (at some point we had to do an international call to block our credit card and they only said to us, with zero empathy, to just go to oxxio).
Elena B — Google review
Great location. Friendly staff, and quite a beautiful place. The internet was spotty at best during my 48 hour stay. Bathrooms are a bit under par in my opinion. Especially because they have open windows facing the hallway, so there's not much privacy there.

I really liked the hotel. Instant check-in, suitcases were delivered to the room very quickly. The staff is professional and attentive. Everything in the room is clean and tidy. There is hot water, but very low water pressure. Wi-Fi in each room, but you need to choose your access point with the maximum signal level. For breakfast I liked the juice of fresh oranges and scrambled eggs with bacon.

Staff is super friendly and they have a garage to park your car. Quite handy. Let me tell you stay here is super close to the center and is so beautiful. Would recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a great central location and a social vibe while staying in San Cristobal. It has amazing hang out areas to hide out during the rainy season, including a TV area! It’s also just right down the road from everything you need when the sun comes out. Activities + tours everyday, amazing cheap breakfast & dinner! 10/10 recommend!

Highest recommendations for this Hostal in central San Cris. Moment I arrived the hosts greeted me with smiles and patience with my attempts at Spanish (all the workers speak English as well as other languages due to the multitude of world travelers here). Was then shown the dining area where I took two courtesy meals each day of my stay. The food is great. The hosts also make available a range of experiences; including a Temazcal which I was able to join in on with the incredible staff.

A M A Z I N G! That's the only word to describe my stay at Puerta Vieja Hostel. It's so easy to meet other travelers, whether you're chilling in the beautiful garden, enjoying a drink at the bar, or participating in one of their daily activities. They have everything from free salsa lessons and cocktail nights to ping pong tournaments. The hostel is well-equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The rooms and dorms are clean and the beds are a bit noisy but they are comfortable. They have many bathrooms as well. The location is perfect – just a short and easy walk to the main square. The free breakfast and dinners are awesome and make everyone come together. They have veggie options and meat options so there is something for everyone.

Great location and friendly staff. Have no idea how they are making money as it’s so cheap and (a surprisingly great) free breakfast and dinner is included. Rooms do feel a bit damp but that is the the whole city rather than the hostel. Also important note is that they have filtered water in the taps and showers which makes them probably the only place in San Chris where you don’t have to constantly worry considering the water health crisis.
Conor Y — Google review
I spent 8 nights here and really enjoyed my stay. This is definitely the most social hostel in San Cris, with social events every night (very alcohol heavy). The hostel dinners are definitely a highlight and for only 50 pesos are a great deal (very high quality). I only give it four stars because of some of the front desk staff. At first the staff seem quite kind but they can also be very rude and aggressive. After 8 nights here, (and spending a few thousand pesos here) I changed to a different hostel for my final night in San Cris so i could have an affordable private room. I was spending time with some friends at this hostel during that day, and was aggressively spoken to by the staff because I'd checked out the prior day and the facilities were only for guests.
Nick M — Google review
Such a nice hostel. 5 stars on everything. Very social, nice activities (mostly for free) and a nice garden. Breakfast and diner included. When we missed our nightbus, they took care of us (Alex and Emiliano) by helping us out and letting us stay for free. 5 stars like I said!

In the heart of San Cristobal, you'll find the Convento de Santo Domingo de Guzmán, a stunning 16th-century church with a baroque facade that glows in the late-afternoon sun. The intricate stucco work and Hapsburg eagle symbol make it a sight to behold. Inside, the lavish gilding and ornate pulpit add to its grandeur.
The museum is a highlighted place in town, well preserve with amazing views to the surrounding green areas. Cool exhibition about Oaxaca and Mexico culture.

A must see place in Mexico. The church is beautiful and the art is awesome. You can ge there during the sunset because you will enjoy the view. There is one thing that was really annoying is that the people do not care about the place. They get snacks and they leave a mess behind while there is a bin next to them but they don't clean it up. It is something shameful.

This place is incredible. Such good value. Lovely atmosphere, generous staff, and a really good hostel environment. The breakfast is so good - best bread we've had in Mexico, with eggs freshly made and coffee and fruit and cereal on offer. 100% recommend.

Really cute hostel! Very low key, got the impression of a lot of long-timers/remote workers as there wasn’t much of a vibe/people taking part in the activities. Everyone was friendly though so it didn’t matter for us as we were a 3 but wouldn’t recommend particularly for solo travellers. Great facilities, really nice private room. We had the tamales which were great too. Nice ladies who cook your eggs in the morning, lots of places to sit and chill and a 10-15 min walk to the centre. All areas are totally safe. Booked a tour to the gorge through reception which was really good but only in Spanish just FYI! And you have to pay cash to reception before 8.30 on the day of your tour else they cancel your place.
Libby W — Google review
I had a private room here and unfortunately it was worse than the dorms - there were people banging on the roof directly overhead at sunrise (there is a metal staircase which needs a sign saying out of use during sleeping hours). I would advise you avoid private for this reason. The staffs son also ran around a lot - including on one ocasión sitting directly outside the toilet, humming, then screaming. He’s about 5 or 6 and there are so many other places to be so i don’t know why this happened - It felt like an unnecessary invasión of privacy. We also had to tell him not to enter the dorm room. His presence isn’t a problem but the hostel needs boundaries - this isn’t a private home. It’s also clear that on occasion the space is the staffs not the guests (again, not a huge problem, but the shouting generated, and take over of the kitchen table isn’t ideal). This is a shame as otherwise a good spot, clean, friendly, and staff clearly intending to (and very very nearly) create a tranquil haven. I did extend my stay a few times and wouldn’t avoid per se, but I don’t think id rush back for the above reasons.

The staff really try their best to help you! Lovely Mexican people! However, the internet connection is not reliable. I couldn’t connect from my room often. No real hot water—the water gets warmish. My room wasn’t ready at 2pm or even a couple hours later… The hostel is beautiful but you can go to a similar place for a lower price without all the issues

One of my favourite hostel experiences not just in Mexico but anywhere. A lot of this is down to the staff, who are very hardworking but also friendly and always smiling, and it seems like they're happy to be working there which makes a huge difference! The hostel is ideal for travelers who want to socialize in a relaxed manner. It's not too big and it's not a party hostel, so you have a nice social vibe but relaxed and without the noise, and it's easy to meet people to go on tours together or go out for some drinks. It's also a nice property for a lazy day in as it has some nice trees and plants, regularly visited by hummingbirds, and cozy covered spaces in which to relax. The hostel is also very clean, as the staff clean the rooms and bathrooms every single day. There's a good breakfast every morning of eggs (cooked to your liking), bread, delicious homemade jam, fruit and coffee. I had a private room so I can't comment on the dorms, but all in all, this hostel was pretty much perfect - Raul con "H" :)

It is pricey, there is no doubt about that, but it truly embodies what a boutique hotel should be. They took care of ALL of our travel needs with precision. Ask for a room on upper floors (2 or 3)

Had a great stay here. A modern hotel with nice rooms . Good showers with lots of hot water. Free parking. Good service. Great location.

Service is excellent and ambiance is very nice, but I found the spa experience to be way overpriced for the value delivered. I booked the jacuzzi for an hour ($1000 MXN!) and while it’s a nice spacious tub, it had rings of dirt along the side, the water cooled off to lukewarm quickly, and the jets were super intense and I had no button to switch them off. Staff were responsive, but couldn’t really help the situation. I ended up ending my session early so I could warm up with a hot shower 🤷‍♀️

Id give 5 stars if the staff knew some minimum English words like towels , baggage and soap. I t was unbelievable that so many front desk staff knew any basic English words. Thanks to Christie and one young man who were most helpful and spoke fluent English. The rooms are wonderful. Great layout. Beautiful and efficient entry The hotel restaurant was not impressive though. The cocktails were ok but the food left a lot to be desired The massage area is superb. Offelia was great and understood me but lotion needs to be offered along with oil One thing needed is much larger robes In The rooms. They are tiny. I never saw such small robes in any global hotel

I have been here for two nights and the hotel is excellent. The decoration is modern with good taste and the rooms are very spacious and comfy, very brand new furniture, a pillow menu for you to choose, new linens, the bathroom is very functional and the hot water is very hot with good pressure. Can't find a flaw so far. Well except that the SPA area is a bit small. The decoration of the common areas is very inviting and comfortable with a touch of Mayan designs and concepts. Has underground parking, a big plus in San Cristobal and is just one block and a half from the main plaza.

We stayed at their boutique house/apartment a few blocks away. It was very nice. Our apartment included breakfast,so we walked over to the hotel one time and enjoyed the breakfast. Very nice ambience in the restaurant. Highly recommend the boutique assortment/house that they rent a few blocks away. The private staff was amazing and very helpful.

Collection O Casa de Familia, San Cristóbal de las Casas is a refined hotel located in a restored 19th-century villa. It offers warm rooms and a suite, along with a furnished terrace for guests to enjoy. Situated in the heart of San Cristobal de Las Casas, this 5-star hotel provides convenient access to nearby attractions such as the San Cristobal Cathedral, La Merced Church, and Central Plaza & Park.
Our stay at the hotel was a wonderful experience, largely thanks to the **exceptionally kind and accommodating staff**. From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to ensure we felt welcome and comfortable, making our stay truly memorable. The hotel itself is a beautifully restored estate home, converted with great care to create a **lovely and cozy atmosphere**. We appreciated the **drinking water available on tap**, which added a nice touch of convenience. The **raindrop shower** was another highlight, featuring excellent water pressure and unlimited hot water—perfect for a relaxing start to our day. Speaking of mornings, the **breakfast at the hotel restaurant** was delightful, offering a variety of delicious options that fueled our adventures in San Cristóbal. Overall, the combination of the staff's warmth and the hotel's charm made our visit special, and we will certainly return on our next trip!

Lovely hotel in the heart of San Cristobal. Rooms were incredibly comfortable; the bed was perfect, shower hot and strong and sheets were silky. Service was excellent, I particularly enjoyed the breakfast (I’d recommend choosing to include it with your stay), where the chef went out of her way to create me delicious options that weren’t on the menu as I follow a vegan diet. If I come back to San Cristobal I will definitely be staying here again.

Above my expectations… this hotel makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk in the door, let’s say that they honor their name “family house”. the staff were superb and willing to help all the time. Now let’s talk about the restaurant …. Wow !! Great place to have breakfast even if you don’t stay with them, you have the option to eat at their beautiful restaurant located in their courtyard or walk in to their well kept garden space, whichever you choose, the waiter service is top notch. Bedroom is basically noise free from the outside since their windows are facing towards the inside of building, bed was very comfortable, hot water in shower all the time. Location is great within walking distance of mostly everything, we parked our car at their free parking and didn’t move it until we had to leave. Overall, staying here again on my next visit to San Cristobal…. Thanks !

One of the most beautiful and characteristic boutique hotel I have ever seen. Of course the hotel is simple but well managed and furnished. Location is top for san Cristobal, they have all the services and the staff is always available to help and assist. Only suggestion (but as a more general point) I would have appreciated more English speaking staff but this is a very minor point for me since the staff always tried to be understood from us.

(Translated by Google) It is my fifth time in San Cristóbal and, although I have visited many of its corners, I had not had the fortune of visiting the El Carmen Cultural Center until now. Located in the heart of the old Convent of La Encarnación in Ciudad Real – a building founded in the 16th century – this center is much more than a cultural space: it is a refuge of calm and contemplation. From its sober and majestic architecture to its silent atmosphere, everything invites introspection. Knowing that this building has gone through so many lives—convent, morgue, asylum, barracks—gives it a mystical, almost sacred aura. Today, as a cultural center, it hosts exhibitions, workshops and activities open to the general public, receiving more than 6,000 visitors monthly. I recommend visiting it if you are looking for a space of peace in the middle of the tourist bustle, or if you simply want to connect with the deep history of Chiapas. It is a place that does not impose itself, but that allows itself to be discovered slowly, like the well-kept secrets of this magical city.

Best view in the city., Beautiful stunning rooftop bar that wouldn't be out of place in Monaco or a top-end luxury beach hotel in EUROPE. Amazing reasonably priced cocktails made by the lovely Ale who was very attentive and friendly all evening. Idyllic terrace, nice rooms and bathroom. Excellent location in most touristic street of San Cristobal. There is a dance school above the rooms, be aware that there will be people dancing above your room every weekday night (Mo-fri).

BAD EXPERIENCE! We stayed three nights at this hotel, first of all the rooms are very small, the style is minimalist. The second day there was no water, we had to wait until 23:00 to take a shower, we could even use the toilet or wash our hands! We understand the small village has this problem, but it’s a shame that a hotel doesn’t pay attention to their guest as other hotels, because there are pips that provides water, I think this is irresponsibility! A SHAME! The second day they didn’t clean the room either the third day and we had to ask for it every time that was very annoying because it’s their responsibility! Then also we had to ask to change the blanket and sheets because they were dirty. We paid a lot for what we got! It’s a pity that the owner of this hotel doesn’t do something to improve the services provided. The hotel seems actually a hostal. The only positive thing was the breakfast, that was not bad but nothing special and also Tammy (the manager) who did an effort but not enough, sorry but that was one of the worst “hotels” we have ever been, for sure we wouldn’t come back and we don’t recommend it.

Hotel - ok in a pinch. Location is great. However, very disorganized reception on arrival in the evening around 9pm, they left me waiting for a while (I believe the receptionist may have gone home by then,to be fair). Room quite nice furniture wise, but could have been cleaner. Water tepid at best (not great in chilly climate). No WiFi in room. Pretty good breakfast in nice terraced restaurant. They also stored my bag after checkout which was helpful.

Recently new owners since december 2022. So any bad reviews before this Time is another story. Loved the friendly staff, clean linens (smelled freshly out of the wash), and decent space in room #5 which I stayed. Desk, place to hang clothes, no drawers. You are in the🫀 heart of a walkable city. I'm an architect/designer and loved the simple yet sophisticated design. P.s. A MUST sit at the café/terrace, a hidden gem in this city. You'll get a great view. DE NADA.

Great place for your stay in San Cristobal. La Tozi is run by a very friendly Spanish girl. Even though the hotel is located in the busy city center, the rooms are in the back and no noise enters the rooms. At the upper first floor, all walls are made of small glass windows offering an amazing view over the city's roofs. Here, you also find the restaurant and yoga room. Beds are very comfortable.

All I can say is, wow. I saw on one of the booking sites that they had some apartments and suites available, so I did the wise thing and showed up in person, rather than booking online (tip: people in San Cristobal hate paying commissions to the booking sites, and if you just show up and book in person, they give you a rate that is cheaper for you yet more profitable for them) I asked what his best unit was, so he showed me... this place is frickin incredible, it's a huge, beautifully decorated 2 bedroom with tons of light and modern finishings. As a walk in, I paid 5000 pesos for 1 week. I would have booked for longer but unfortunately someone else reserved it for the following week... I'm not surprised, it's an amazing apartment. It's also in the best part of town, on a street that's super lively yet the apartment is very quiet, because the whole hotel is set back from the street and built around a courtyard. Highly recommended, just don't book online. And to the owner: your pics of the 2 bedroom on Booking don't do it justice... it's also way bigger than 40 square meters, it's more like 80 :)

I have never been met with such rudeness in a church before! (from a world traveler) We've been in Mexico for 3 months now, loving our visits to churches, where I discreetly/respectfully take pictures (many, many churches and hundreds of photos) with my (no flash) cell phone. Here however I was told NO! and then asked to leave. I was raised Catholic & I'm disgusted by this treatment, seemingly because I was a tourist. How loving, welcoming, sharing, and ecumenical of this church, pffft! No one else was in the church at the time btw. I see other reviewers have inside photos - nice!
