The Royal Exhibition Building, constructed in 1880, is a significant 19th-century exhibition center with a striking dome. It is situated amidst beautifully landscaped gardens and holds UNESCO World Heritage status. This iconic venue hosts various major events and exhibitions throughout the year, such as the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show and GABS (the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular). Notably, it was also the location of Australia's first Parliament in 1901.
Such a beautiful place to spend a peaceful afternoon! The Royal Exhibition Building looks stunning — the architecture is just amazing, especially with the fountains in front. The Carlton Gardens around it are so calm and green, perfect for a walk, photos, or just sitting by the pond watching the ducks. It’s one of those spots that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Melbourne! 🌿✨

Stunning Venue for Special Occasions – Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne I recently had the pleasure of attending a graduation ceremony at the Royal Exhibition Building, and it was truly a memorable experience. The building itself is a masterpiece of architecture—grand, elegant, and beautifully preserved. Its high ceilings, detailed interior, and historical charm make it an inspiring venue for any important event. The surrounding Carlton Gardens add even more beauty, offering a peaceful and scenic environment perfect for photos and relaxation. Whether you’re attending a formal event or just visiting, the atmosphere is uplifting and serene. Everything was well organized, and the setting made the ceremony feel extra special. The mix of heritage, space, and natural surroundings makes this a standout location in Melbourne. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the city or planning a special event!

Amazing heritage building. Great architecture. Great location for big Expos. Very expensive parking at the museum. And you cannot book it in advance. The building is surrounded by beautiful gardens and the location is very popular for wedding photography.

This beautiful old building is such a stunning site. It looks extra majestic in the lovely Carlton Gardens, and the Dome Tour you can do through the Melbourne Museum is absolutely wonderful, providing a lot of detailed history and some really unique and incredible views. I've been to a lot of events here - from uni exams and graduations, to the flower and garden show, to vegan festivals and art shows, and every single time I visit I'm just blown away by how beautiful this architecture is. I wish that there were more places like this as lovingly preserved in Melbourne.

Came here to experience the Matria exhibition as part of the 2025 Now or Never Festival. Amazing use of the space. Everything was pink down to the menu items at the makeshift cafe. A really nice photo opportunity in this incredible building and best of all it was free. The kids loved the milk crate interactive element too. Love Melbourne for this type of event.

I visited this place for the Melbourne Italian Fest — the building is huge and really beautiful, perfect for such a big event. The area around is full of greenery and so relaxing! 🌿🇮🇹
Carmela A — Google review
I've been to many events here both working and just to see an expo. Building its self is magnificent to see. Recently I really enjoyed going to the international flower show. I thought it was very cool it being indoors and outdoors. It's crazy how such an old building to be standing and used so regularly! Definitely one of the many cool old buildings in Melbourne. Definitely worth checking out an expo here even if its just to admore the building. Photos attached are from when I went to the flower show
Steven H — Google review
The building is marvelous just like Melbourne’s old name, the Marvelous Melbourne. The Dome Guided Tour is fantastic, the professional guide Phil told us loads of fascinating stories about the building and the city it is located in. In the main hall, Phil showed us the paintings and their history. And then we went upstairs to the rooftop, enjoyed the great views and checked out the golden top which is made of real gold. We went into the basement with a little exhibition about the building. And we went back to the main hall to end this tour. I love this experience. It’s a great landmark of Melbourne. It represents the good old times of its city. And we should do more to conserve it and make it last for our future generations.

The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne is the largest war memorial in Victoria, serving as a tribute to Australian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the World Wars. The shrine hosts over 120 ceremonies and commemorative services annually, making it an active venue for honoring heroes. Its location offers stunning views of Melbourne city and the bay area. The solemn atmosphere and architectural design resembling ancient Greece create a poignant experience for visitors.
A beautifully designed and deeply moving memorial that honours those who served. The architecture is striking, with panoramic views of Melbourne from the upper balcony. Inside, the exhibits are thoughtfully curated, offering both history and reflection. The Eternal Flame and the Ray of Light ceremony add a solemn touch. Peaceful gardens surround the shrine, making it a place of both remembrance and quiet contemplation. A must-visit for anyone in Melbourne.
Proride M — Google review
It has been years since I was last at the Shrine and I cannot remember it looking so well kept and iconic. This area is such a wonderful part of Melbourne to walk around and to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for Australia. The trees around the Shrine are dedicated to various Battalions and units throughout the ADF history. Thank you so much to everyone involved in the maintenance of one of Australia's most sacred areas.
Tim V — Google review
A Profoundly Moving and Beautiful Experience The Shrine of Remembrance is one of the most peaceful and powerful places in Melbourne. The architecture is stunning, the views of the city from the balcony are breathtaking, and the exhibitions inside are informative and emotionally touching. It’s not just a monument, it’s a tribute to history, sacrifice, and remembrance. The eternal flame, the sanctuary, and the hourly Ray of Light ceremony were deeply moving. Highly recommend visiting, whether you’re a local or a tourist. It’s a perfect place to reflect, learn, and pay respects. Free entry and beautifully maintained grounds make it even more worthwhile.
Mehdi S — Google review
The Shrine of Remembrance is a truly beautiful monument, both architecturally and emotionally. Its peaceful inner gardens are perfect for photos 👑, and the interior offers rich insights and stories that invite you to pause and reflect. It has that sacred, temple-like vibe that evokes a deep sense of remembrance and contemplation of history. 🌟 Pro tip: don’t miss the rooftop terrace —you’ll get a stunning 360° view of the city. The skyline and the sky become the main characters. It’s a perfect spot to just sit, breathe, and take it all in.
Tomas O — Google review
A beautiful and peaceful place that I often visit. The architecture is impressive, and the view from the top gives a great look over the Melbourne skyline. The lush gardens around it add to the serene atmosphere. It’s a war memorial built to honour all Australians who have served and continue to serve in wars and peacekeeping missions. There’s also a museum inside with interesting displays and personal stories. It’s a place where you could sit for hours, switch off, and reflect. Definitely worth a visit.
Hersh S — Google review
Beautiful War memorial and small museum to men and women of Australia, New Zealand, and other members of the commonwealth. Great view of downtown from across the river at the top, surrounded by the botanical gardens nearby as well. Good amount of parking nearby as well.
Pratul M — Google review
It is an amazing place to visit, to learn the history of war. You’d better allow 3 hours to visit the place. There are street parking available that peak hours $4/ hour and off-peak $2/ hour.
LIANCHENG L — Google review
I were surprised there is no charge for visiting Shrine of Remembrance. Donations are accepted. Great place to visit and learn about Australian military involvement around the world 🌎 The architecture is impressive and the view of the city is breathtaking. Flinders Street Railway Station is a true gem nestled in the heart of Melbourne, boasting a stunning yellow facade and an iconic dome that has captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike since its opening in 1909. This architectural marvel, with its grand arched entrance and Romanesque Revival style, serves as both a bustling transport hub and a beloved meeting point for generations.
Flinders street railway station is an absolute icon of Melbourne. Known for its spectacular architecture, this train station is a landmark and a central hub for trains. A lot of trams and trains pass by, and through the station day, after day, after day. Buy hey, it's a station, and that's what it's made for. It's a very busy and packed station, so try not to miss your train. Anyways, what I'm saying is, it's a great station. It just is. Would like to see again.

Flinders Street station. Over the years I've seen a few impressive improvement changes. The organisation of signs is super helpful. Within seconds you can figure out where to catch the right train, making your travel experience enjoyable.

Busy station in the centre of Melbourne. Great food shops. Use trams for all the important places.
Sreejith K — Google review
Could have been more cleaner. Could have more seating for the eateries People literally sit on the stairs and sit near the toilets to eat food. So hard to watch that. Passengers are paying lot of money it’s not like they have a choice. Instead of just putting money on the restorations spend tiny portion on customers needs as well But I must say such a beautiful view from outside

We visited this iconic landmark in Melbourne. The architecture is classic and a nice place for photos. However, inside the station is all business and we could not get in without a train ticket. There are some food stalls and cafes just along the side of the train station.

Huge station with friendly staff and a lot of shops. I visited this station on Australia Day. There was a big crowd in front of the station but the police and security staff kept everything in order. This is historically building. It worths to visit even if you don’t use train. There is beautiful cathedral in front of the station. Good place to visit too.

The Old Melbourne Gaol, located in the heart of Melbourne, is a historic tri-level jail that once housed notorious inmates from 1842 until its closure in 1929. Today, it stands as a museum offering self-guided and guided tours to visitors. The gaol shares the stories of some of Australia's most infamous criminals, including Ned Kelly. Visitors can explore original cells, gallows, and hear captivating tales about the prisoners' lives and crimes.
An unforgettable step back in time! Visiting the Old Melbourne Gaol was an incredible experience — eerie, educational, and deeply fascinating. It gives a raw glimpse into Australia’s criminal past and the lives of some of its most notorious figures, including Ned Kelly. The preserved cells, haunting atmosphere, and well-curated exhibits really bring history to life. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in true crime, history, or just looking for something unique to do in Melbourne!
Kunal S — Google review
Spent 2 hours wandering around this history filled jail, had goosebumps for the entire time! Did the extra Ned Kelly tour with our tour guide Tom and I highly recommend as it really brings the jail to life. Highly recommend a visit and I can’t wait to return and do one of the night tours!

It's an interesting place with a lot of history. The staff are friendly and seem to enjoy their work. The actress/guide on the night in particular was very good. The Ghosts! What ghosts? Tour wasn't what you'd call scary in any way but it was very interesting.

Loved being guided in the dark, added to the atmosphere. Overrall very very happy with our experience, loved it!

The State Library Victoria, a historic landmark dating back to 1856, is a hub of literature and public education. It houses an extensive collection of over 5.5 million items including books, magazines, newspapers, maps, and archives. The library also offers digital resources and hosts various events and exhibitions throughout the year. Situated in a stunning 19th-century building opposite Melbourne Central shopping mall, it is not only a treasure trove for book lovers but also provides free wifi access.
The library is beautiful, it's definitely a must see when walking around Melbourne. The dome is one of the main attractions and doesn't disappoint. Obviously it's still a real library so please be respectful as you walk around. There is a museum section as well and just a real pleasure to see.

2025/10 State Library Victoria The State Library Victoria, located in the heart of Melbourne, Australia, is one of the oldest public libraries in the world and the first free public library in Australia. Established in 1854, it serves as a major cultural and educational institution, offering free access to a vast collection of books, manuscripts, artworks, newspapers, photographs, and digital resources. With millions of items in its collection, State Library Victoria preserves Victoria’s rich history while supporting innovation, research, and lifelong learning for people of all ages.

Visited State Library Victoria, a stunning blend of history and knowledge in the heart of Melbourne. The domed La Trobe Reading Room is breathtaking, and the historic architecture combined with modern galleries makes it a perfect spot to explore or enjoy some quiet time. Fun fact: it’s Australia’s oldest public library, established in 1854.
Melvin J — Google review
We made a special trip to this library, which is reputed to be the most beautiful. Sorry, but I didn’t borrow a single book, as I came purely to see this stunning architecture. Looking up at the double-height space, you can feel a sense of spacious, pressure-free openness. Many tourists kept taking photos, even as closing time approached. The staff repeatedly reminded everyone that it was time to leave, yet many were still reluctant to go. This alone speaks volumes about the charm of this place. Perhaps it’s not that no one was borrowing books, but the simple, substantial, and grand spatial beauty is truly unforgettable.
CH — Google review
Such a good place to visit and hang out. Full of students doing their assignments as well as tourists checking their collections, but still nice and quiet. Learn more about Ned Kelly here. They also have his real armor on display. My wife use one of their library room to have zoom meeting. You can do this for free by making an appointment.
H K — Google review
When we were in Melbourne, we visited State Library Victoria, one of the oldest and most beautiful libraries in the world. The La Trobe Reading Room with its white dome ceiling is absolutely magnificent — peaceful, bright, and full of charm. Many tourists go up to Level 5 and 6 for the best photo spots overlooking the dome. Free entry, open to everyone — definitely a must-visit when you’re in Melbourne!
Nancy I — Google review
Visited the State Library Victoria and was completely impressed by its beauty and atmosphere. The main reading room — the La Trobe Reading Room — is breathtaking, with its grand dome ceiling and elegant symmetry. It’s one of those rare places where you instantly feel calm and inspired just by walking in. The mix of history, architecture, and quiet focus makes it a true landmark of Melbourne. The library isn’t just for studying — it also features exhibitions, art displays, and comfortable reading spaces for everyone. The staff were friendly and helpful, and everything was clean and well maintained. Whether you’re a student, traveler, or book lover, it’s the perfect spot to slow down and take in the culture of the city. Definitely one of Melbourne’s must-visit places — peaceful, inspiring, and full of history.
Masaki K — Google review
Honestly so impressive. Loved the exhibition spaces, could wander for hours. Note there was wait time to take the lifts up/down to look down at the upper levels of the dome as there is no option to take stairs, so this does get crowded. Might be better on a weekday.

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria - Melbourne Gardens, established in 1846, covers 36 hectares and features Australian species as well as non-native gardens. Similar to New York's Central Park, it occupies a significant portion of the city and offers various attractions such as the Melbourne Observatory, Guilfoyles Volcano, and Fern Gully. The gardens are home to diverse wildlife including black swans, kookaburras, and cockatoos.
The Botanical Gardens are very well maintained and set out. Got it split up into different areas. It is well worth a wonder through there to see. Seats are around to sit and enjoy the tranquility. Plenty of bird life. Quite a wide range of plants through out the grounds. A must see. Not too far from the city.

Beautiful paradise hidden next to the Shrine. Plenty of space for you find your peaceful spot and plenty of room for you to enjoy a walk/jog of any length. Make sure to grab a map of the gardens if you are specifically looking to learn more about the plants. We especially love the Sensory Garden next to the lake. Just a beautiful, peaceful place to be quiet, still the mind and be present. The sounds of nature is a powerful healer. Do hope they will fix up the greenhouses - the tropical greenhouse looks enchanting and wished it was open.

A breathtaking garden in the heart of Melbourne! I visited the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria – Melbourne Gardens in early October, during springtime, and the whole place was bursting with color and life. The air was filled with the scent of flowers, and the lake reflected the blue sky beautifully. There are thousands of plant species from around the world, peaceful walking paths, and plenty of spots to sit and relax. The Japanese Garden area and the blooming cherry blossoms were absolutely stunning. What I loved most was the sense of peace — just a few minutes from the busy city, yet it feels like a different world. Whether you come for a morning walk, photography, or a quiet picnic, this garden is a must-visit in Melbourne.

### Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne: A Moody Spring Gem Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens is a lush urban oasis, especially magical in spring under dramatic cloudy skies—perfect for moody, high-contrast photos. The star? The vast Cacti and Succulent Collection: 3,000+ spiky survivors like towering saguaros and night-blooming Echinopsis, thriving in the redeveloped Arid Garden. Nearby, the new drought-friendly forest of hardy eucalypts and acacias nods to climate resilience with rugged beauty. Spring explodes in color—cherry blossoms, magnolias, tulips, and vibrant perennials—against silvered skies, buzzing with life. A serene, free escape. Five stars.

Absolutely loved visiting the Melbourne Botanic Gardens! The parks are beautiful, very well maintained, and feature an impressive variety of plants. It’s a perfect spot to relax, go for a walk, or even a run. The gardens are also close to the river, which adds an extra charm and makes the surroundings even more peaceful. A great place to spend a few hours enjoying nature right in the city.

The National Gallery of Victoria, also known as NGV, is a renowned art museum in Melbourne that boasts an extensive and diverse collection of Australian and international art and artifacts. It is divided between two buildings: the Ian Potter Centre in Federation Square and the NGV International on St Kilda Road.
I visited the National Gallery of Victoria on a busy Saturday afternoon with friends. I’ve been a few times before as a local, but this visit stood out because I had the chance to really explore more of what the gallery offers. It’s just a short walk or tram ride from Flinders Street Station if you’re coming by PTV, or plenty of paid parking is available nearby if you’re driving. The building itself is hard to miss, with its large size, striking fountain and man made pond out the front, and of course the iconic water wall at the entrance. Entry is free unless you choose to see one of the rotating paid exhibitions. This time, we skipped the ticketed exhibit and wandered through the many free galleries instead. On the ground floor, there’s a stunning foyer space filled with sculptures and the famous room with the colourful stained glass ceiling, which always feels magical to walk under. From there, you can step outside into the sculpture garden and pond area, which is another highlight. Getting upstairs is easy with both escalators and accessible options. The galleries are currently arranged by region, and it was fascinating to walk through each one and see the differences and similarities across cultures. I especially loved the Japanese and Chinese galleries, the detail and richness of the traditional pieces were incredible. Even though it was busy, the space felt open enough for everyone to explore at their own pace. There were toilets on every level, information points, and staff around to help if you needed directions. The building itself is so large that it almost felt like a maze at times but getting “lost” just meant stumbling upon more artwork to enjoy. We didn’t even manage to get through everything before closing, which only gives me another reason to come back. Everything felt well looked after, and the whole gallery had such a calm, inspiring vibe. I’d absolutely recommend visiting the NGV if you’re in Melbourne and looking for something to do in the CBD. It’s packed with history, culture, and beauty, and it’s the kind of place that makes you want to return again and again.

The NGV is definitely a must-visit when you’re in Melbourne. The variety of art on display is incredible — from classic works to contemporary installations, Indigenous pieces, and international exhibitions. Every room offers something unique, and you can easily spend hours exploring without getting bored. What I loved most was how thoughtfully everything was curated. The exhibitions had a clear flow, the descriptions were informative, and the overall vibe was calm and inspiring. The gallery space itself is also stunning — spacious, clean, and easy to access by public transport. That said, it can get very crowded during major exhibitions. Some parts felt rushed or hard to fully enjoy because of the number of people. Also, the layout can be a bit confusing at times, especially when transitioning between different sections or locations. A few visitors seemed frustrated by early room closures or long queues for ticketed exhibits. Still, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. NGV offers a rich cultural experience and is a gem for both locals and tourists. Just try to visit on a weekday or earlier in the day to avoid the peak rush!

The National Gallery of Victoria is such a gem in Melbourne! ✨ From the moment you walk in, the space feels inspiring and full of creativity. The mix of classic art and modern exhibitions is amazing—you’ll always find something new that surprises you. The building itself is beautiful, and it’s the perfect spot to spend a few hours wandering, reflecting, or just enjoying the vibe. Definitely one of my favorite places in the city! 🎨

This review is a little bit different in that it is not really about the artistic side of the Gallery. I'm sure many people don't know about the garden area at the back of the Gallery - it is a little gem of a place to get away from the crowds, it has seating, small, low tables, a few outdoor sculptures and is perfect to take the young ones for a respite, eating morning tea or lunch and a specific 3D hexagonal, interlaced cable structure which the kids love to climb on. At this time of the year, October, the table seating is beneath a magnificent purple-mauve Wisteria trellis. The area is free of charge - it is shaded, has a small bridge over a small moat and the water beneath is full of coins that are signs of many, many people's wishes.

This is my first business trip to Australia, and I’ve come to the city of Melbourne. Today is Sunday, and I finally found some free time to visit an Australian art gallery. The collection here is very diverse, featuring both Eastern and Western works, including sculptures, art creations, and paintings. I personally prefer viewing paintings, so I took many photos of them. I won’t go into too much detail here, but I highly recommend everyone visit, it’s a truly visually pleasing experience.

The NGV is always a great place to spend a few hours, even though it was quite packed during my visit, there’s so much to see that it’s worth it. The mix of permanent collections and changing exhibitions keeps things fresh, and I really appreciated that some of the exhibitions are free, which makes it very accessible. A must-visit if you’re in Melbourne.

The Gallery is wonderful! I’ve visited several times and always enjoyed it. But today the security staff refused to let me in with my usual women’s shoulder bag, even though I’ve come with this very bag before without any issue. It was really upsetting and spoiled the mood. Thankfully, the manager stepped in right away, was very polite and resolved everything quickly. I truly hope the security team receive clearer guidance so visitors don’t have their experience ruined like this again.

Went to the French Impressionist Exhibition & Kimono exhibition during my Melbourne holiday recently. Both were simply amazing experiences, not to mention the other 4 floors of amazing artwork, period pieces & exhibits. If you plan on visiting I recommend making this an all day experience in order to get the best possible outcome of art appreciation.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is an iconic sports venue with a rich history dating back to 1853. It has been the main stadium for the 1956 Summer Olympics and is known as the home of Australian football. With a capacity of 100,000 people, it's one of Melbourne's top tourist destinations. The MCG offers daily tours that provide visitors with insights into its storied past and significance in Australian sports history.
This is the second largest cricket ground. We were welcome to visit the cricket ground. Each and everything of the auditorium was clearly presented to us. We saw the cricketers landing area , their changing rooms , Physio therapy rooms , resting rooms . The ground was being maintained. We also saw the place where the speakers sit , the management sitting area cafeteria and so on . The best part is the museum. Very informative. Must visit whole you are at Australia don’t miss it.

Visiting the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the first time was truly a memorable experience. The sheer history of this iconic stadium is impressive, and the guided tour brings it to life in a unique way. Our guide, Jerry, was knowledgeable and engaging, making the 60–70 minute tour informative and enjoyable. The tour takes you deep inside the MCG, including exclusive areas like the players' seating boxes, and members' lounges. One of the highlights was the bird’s eye view from the top, which gives you a real sense of how massive the ground is. There are a few facilities on site including a small café and a gift shop for souvenirs. Parking can be tricky since it’s not available inside the stadium, but we were lucky to find street parking easily on a weekday. For cricket fans, timing your visit is key. The stadium often hosts football games, so the pitch is not always set up for cricket. The best time to experience it in its full cricketing glory is during the Boxing Day Test match around Christmas. Overall, it’s a must visit spot in Melbourne, rich with sporting history and atmosphere especially if you are a cricket fan.

The comprehensive tour provided an intimate look at the stadium's iconic features, including the hallowed grounds and player facilities. Engaging with the rich heritage and significant moments that have transpired within its walls was captivating. The informative insights into the venue's evolution and its place in sports history were enlightening. Overall, the visit left a lasting impression of admiration for the venue's significance.

Visiting the Melbourne Cricket Ground was truly a memorable experience. The stadium’s sheer size and historic significance immediately stood out—it’s not just a sporting venue, but a landmark filled with tradition and pride. Walking through the gates, I could feel the energy and legacy of countless legendary matches that have taken place here. The guided tour was well-organized and gave fascinating insights into the stadium’s history, the players, and the cultural importance of cricket in Australia. Standing in the stands and imagining the roar of over 100,000 fans was simply breathtaking. The MCG shop was also a highlight, offering a wide range of memorabilia and merchandise, perfect for any cricket lover. Overall, the visit was both exciting and inspiring. Whether you’re a cricket enthusiast, a sports fan, or just someone who appreciates history and culture, the MCG is an absolute must-visit in Melbourne

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), or "The G," is a highly-regarded and historically significant multi-purpose stadium and cultural landmark in Melbourne, Australia. Reviewers consistently praise its electric atmosphere, especially during major events, while also highlighting its accessibility and extensive amenities. The atmosphere during major events, such as AFL Grand Finals, the Boxing Day Test match, and concerts, is consistently described as amazing, incredible, and electric. The roar of over 80,000 fans is a major draw for attendees. The stadium offers a large variety of food and beverage options, though some reviewers note that prices can be high. Other facilities praised by visitors include numerous clean toilets, large HD video screens, and escalators for easy access to higher levels. However, some seating on the higher levels has been described as small and cramped.Guided tours of the MCG are highly recommended for sports fans. The 75-minute tours offer behind-the-scenes access to the changing rooms, exclusive member areas like the Long Room, and an opportunity to walk on the edge of the arena. Tour guides are often described as knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers. The on-site Australian Sports Museum, included with the tour, is a major highlight.

My daughter and I, visiting from England, had a great time on the tour of the MCG. Expertly guided by club member Anne, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience on the eve of the AFL Grand Final. As we anticipated, the changing rooms and Long Room were out of bounds so close to the big event, but these minor disappointments were soon forgotten as the rest of the tour was so informative and inspiring. Should you have the opportunity to also visit the adjoining museum you must do so, as this is a phenomenal experience. Many thanks to Bill, the very helpful volunteer who entertained me here. A real highlight of our trip to the city.

You know, from the outside it's an eye catcher for it's size but doesn't look particularly noteworthy. But the inside is quire gorgeous! Cathedrals of this size usually feel rather dark and oppresive usually (as they're mostly Catholic) but this one doesn't (as it isn't), it's welcoming and beautiful. Honestly, if they asked for an entry fee, I would have skipped going inside despite having gotten strong recommendations, just due to its rather bland exterior, but after having been inside I wished they charged everyone $10 for its upkeep, it would be well worth spending that much.

This is such a wonderful landmark in Melbourne and holds a lot of historical value. Aside from all the historical details it has, it still maintains a high level of sanctity. If you are visiting and want to go for a walk around, you will see so much value and I hope that you feel the energy of the community and God within. There is a nice store inside as well, if you are looking to pick up some gifts to celebrate the sacraments or for holy events.

A Melbourne landmark diagonally opposite the Flinders Street station and across the road from the ACMI and federation Square. There are information sheets that you can pick up near the entrance. Worth a visit. To show your appreciation, do consider making a small donation. It's free to enter. There are often events in at this place. I came recently when the building was at it's best for viewing without any clutter for special events. It's quite peaceful inside. Such a great space for prayer and quiet contemplation.

Queen Victoria Market, also known as Queen Vic or the Vic Market, is a historic landmark in Melbourne spanning 2 city blocks. It's a paradise for retail enthusiasts, offering everything from food to clothing and hand-crafted jewelry. With over 600 vendors, the market features fresh food, specialty restaurants, grocers, cafes, and ice cream shops. Additionally, it hosts other markets such as the Summer Night Market and the Melbourne Book Market on specific days.
This looks a such a must see when in Melbourne… the fresh food market is fabulous. Heaps of eateries but have a walk around before choosing as there’s a big difference in price… a humble pie could cost you $17, or if you look around you’ll find a better deal for as little as $7. It’s a great spot with loads of souvenirs and a few copies as well. The tram stops directly out the front so it’s a convenient place to get to.

The atmosphere is lively and vibrant, making it a fun spot to explore for both tourists and locals. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Melbourne!

They also have different restaurant inside and at the back. I also bought shirts here for my nieces. They have markets for random stuffs. My most favourite area is the seafood place where all fresh seafood is in display. The prices of the oysters here is a bargain and it is very fresh. I highly recommend this place and I look forward to visiting again.

I really enjoy eating fresh oysters, mussel and american doughnuts too. Will visit again next time

A massive, sheltered market with a wide variety of offerings. I came mainly for the hot jam doughnuts and mussels, but the market has so much more, fresh produce, seafood, meat, cheeses, souvenirs, clothing, photos, and all sorts of specialty goods. It’s a vibrant place full of sights, smells, and flavors, perfect for wandering, grabbing a bite, and picking up something unique. Whether you’re after food, gifts, or just soaking in the lively atmosphere, there’s plenty to explore! 🛍️🍩🦪

Nestled in the historic Carlton area just north of Melbourne's CBD, the expansive 70,000-square-meter Melbourne Museum offers a deep dive into the city's rich history and diverse culture. With eight galleries spread across six floors, visitors can explore Aboriginal artifacts at the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, encounter Australia's unique wildlife including a massive blue whale skeleton and legendary racehorse Phar Lap's preserved body, and take guided tours to uncover hidden stories of Melbourne.
We booked our tickets online which helped us skip the queue. Reached around 10 am when it was still quiet, though it did get busier as the day went on. My son is very curious, and he thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the museum. The Dinosaur section was definitely a major highlight for him. The Rainforest section was another favourite - walking among real flora and trees inside a museum felt amazing! Other sections like bugs & insects, soils, and the Ice Age were equally fascinating. We spent about 4–5 hours exploring everything at a relaxed pace. We had lunch at the Market Café inside the museum, which was quite convenient. Afterward, we enjoyed some time at the beautiful Carlton Gardens just outside - a perfect way to wrap up the visit. Overall, a fantastic experience for both kids and adults. Highly recommend spending half a day here!

This is a place where kids (and adults!) can learn so much in a fun and engaging way — you could easily spend a full day exploring. The dinosaur exhibition was a highlight for us, packed with fascinating displays and information that really capture children’s curiosity. We also loved the insect area, which was both educational and surprisingly fun to explore. Everything is well-presented, interactive, and perfect for sparking young minds. Adults tickets are $15, and kids go free, making it fantastic value for families. I recommend booking online to avoid the queues. We’ll definitely be back for a full-day visit next time!

Fantastic Paking under the building is yhe way to go, cheaper parking on the weekends, pricier during the week. Entrance fee free for Kids and consession card holders, $18 for Adults which was very Reasonable. If you wish to attend other exhibitions like Star wars Legos, Max,etc that's an additional cost on top of the initial entry fee. Well worth it, Great 👍 for Families. Highly Recommended

Pretty cool place tbh. The Melbourne Museum is huge — like, you could easily get lost in there. Loved the dinosaur section and the First Peoples exhibit, super interesting and well done. There’s also a kids area that looked fun even if you’re not a kid lol. Some parts felt a bit dated though, and a few displays could use more interactive stuff or better lighting. But overall, it’s a chill spot to spend a few hours and learn a bunch of random cool things. Would def recommend if you’ve got some free time in Melbourne.

Visitors can explore attractions such as the Reptile House, Butterfly House, Gorilla Rainforest, and Caterpillar Greenhouse. The award-winning Trail of the Elephants provides an opportunity to interact with these majestic animals in a recreated Asian village setting.
A great day out for the whole family. So many gorgeous animals to see. Our family favourites are the lemurs, meerkats, butterflies, giraffes and penguins. The staff are always friendly and they are happy to share their knowledge of the animals. My kids love the main play area near the carousel. A fun place for them to run around or sit down to eat.

A bit like sealife we were underwhelmed. Im not sure Melbourne Zoo lives up to its expectations of a world class Zoo. It had so much potential. Now we are spoilt!! San Diego Zoo for example, and even Singapore. Personally I preferred Perth Zoo. I think the big thing for us was what appeared to be the lack of animals. Yes I know they could be sleeping but it felt like there was mostly only one of everything and you had buckleys chance seeing it. Funny enough you actually go to a zoo to see animals. Some of the enclosures felt small and not really good enough. There were also no shows like most other zoos, normally a daily programme. Also a lot of sections were closed either for a private function (not acceptable) or i don't know what. As with every entertainment event Food and Beverages are always a rip off but the quality, variety and costs here were terrible, again compared to other zoos. To be totally honest for the cost it's not really worth it. Fantastic for tiny kids otherwise forget it.

Melbourne Zoo is an amazing place to spend a day. The grounds are beautifully kept, and the habitats feel natural and spacious, giving you the sense that the animals are truly cared for. Don't expect to see all the animals. Some of them are sleeping or just hiding from the public. Not all of us like cameras and lots of attention. Hahaha 😁 There’s a fantastic variety of wildlife — from lions and gorillas to playful lemurs and the always-fascinating butterfly house. It’s also very family-friendly, with plenty of activities and areas for kids to learn and explore.

Had a wonderful visit to the zoo to see the new baby giraffe. We are members and love visiting the zoo as a family. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. Loved the butterfly house but was disappointed at the Asian tourists trying to touch the butterflies. There really needs to be an attendant in the butterfly house the whole time because even after pointing to signs not to touch these people were touching. Made my heart sad for the little butterflies.

The variety of animals is excellent, and what really stood out to me was the thoughtful, intelligent design of the enclosures. They allow you to get remarkably close to the animals — much closer than in many other zoos — without ever compromising the animals’ comfort or safety. While the ticket price is on the higher side, I found it absolutely worth it once I was inside. You can really tell that a lot of care and effort goes into making this place special — both for visitors and for the animals. Highly recommended!

The Melbourne Skydeck, located on the 88th floor of the Eureka Tower, offers a luxurious observation deck with breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Visitors can enjoy stunning vistas of the CBD, Yarra River, and surrounding suburbs from this gold-plated vantage point. The highlight is a protruding glass cube that provides an exhilarating experience for those seeking an adrenaline rush.
Observation deck that has 360 degree views of Melbourne. You can identify local landmarks through the view finders or try to recognise spots you already know. There is a little cafe and a restaurant upstairs as well as a glass floor balcony to get the standard tourist shot. Overall great experience and worth the price of admission.

Beautiful views. Hard to photograph at night because of reflections, but that just forces you to enjoy the moment! When we visited there was a strong toilet odour. Hopefully that's fixed quickly!

We really enjoyed our visit to Melbourne Skydeck! The 360° views of the city were absolutely stunning and gave us a whole new perspective of Melbourne. Definitely worth a visit if you want to see the city from above.
Eka S — Google review
Our visit to Melbourne Skydeck was a truly memorable experience. It’s one of the best spots in the city to enjoy a panoramic view of Melbourne from high above. The observation deck gives a 360-degree view, allowing you to take in the skyline, river, and iconic landmarks all at once. Watching the sunset from the top was magical — the colors in the sky changed beautifully, making it perfect for photos. Many people also recommend the sunrise view for a peaceful start to the day. The place is very family-friendly, and our kids were excited to spot famous buildings and watch the trams below. The interactive displays made the experience more fun for them. We tried some food and drinks from the café; although the prices were a bit expensive, we really enjoyed the mocktails, which were refreshing and tasty. If you’re visiting Melbourne, this is a must-see attraction — especially for first-time visitors who want to see the city from above. A short visit can give you a great glimpse of the entire city. Overall, it’s a wonderful experience for both kids and adults.

Took the kids to Skydeck as they have never been. Crowded during the setting sun time. Loads of people enjoying the sunset from a different angle. As always To God be the Glory for His wonderful creation.

Melbourne Skydeck was such an awesome experience! The views from the top were absolutely stunning — you can see the entire city skyline. The Edge experience was super cool and definitely worth trying — it’s a fun mix of thrill and amazing views. Everything was well-organized, and the staff made it even better. A must-do when visiting Melbourne!

We visited the Melbourne Skydeck and it was absolutely worth it for the views alone—panoramic sights of the city that are especially stunning at sunset. It’s the kind of place that really makes you appreciate Melbourne from a whole new perspective. We grabbed a couple of drinks at the bar, which were definitely on the pricier side—but honestly, that’s expected at a spot like this. Sipping a cocktail while watching the skyline light up was a great way to take it all in. If you’re in Melbourne and want a memorable experience, the Skydeck delivers—a bit touristy, but totally worth it. Nice addition to add. It has the world’s fastest ascending elevator which is a cool touch.

Arts Centre Melbourne is a must-visit for culture enthusiasts in Melbourne. It houses the State Theatre, Hamer Hall, The Playhouse, and the Fairfax Studio, offering diverse productions from musicals to ballets. The Sunday Market showcases local designers and artisans selling their wares alongside delicious food vendors. The location also provides stunning sunset views over iconic city landmarks when the conditions are right.
I was lucky enough to head along to the Art Centre for Horizons opening community performance and my god, I can not rave about it enough. If you ever get the chance to see a show from the Bangarra Dance Theatre take it. They have such a beautiful way of storytelling through dance that lights up a room. The Art Centre puts on so many amazing performance but the location itself is something to marvel at. The whole place feels like it’s built to host spectacular productions and it sure does. There’s the most beautiful light fixtures in every room and the bars look like the perfect place for a cocktail before a wonderful evening. There’s so much history on display in each room with sets from previous show in glass cases, and old costumes lining the walls. I love how lively it always feels and the warm theatre tones feel so vibrant and alluring. If there’s any place to catch a show it’s in these beautiful halls. After the show you can also get a photo outside of the towering structure above the many theatres which is lit up each night. It’s right on the river which means just across from the original art centre building are breathtaking city views both on the bridge and from above. Climbing up the stairs above Hammer Hall is always a breathtaking sight and well worth a bit of exploration. If you’re in the city looking to explore or a tourist wanting to catch the sights along with a show this is the place to be!

We visited Arts Centre Melbourne – Hamer Hall for The Wiggles: Bouncing Balls Tour. The venue is spacious and beautiful, with comfortable seating. I love Hamer Hall for the acoustics, it's accessibility and the staff. More then that is how close I can get a wheelchair spot to the stage. I don't feel like an after thought.

It is located right next to the National Gallery of Victoria. At the top of the building is a large structure similar to the Eiffel Tower. There is a nice music exhibition on the ground floor. They exhibited some of the items used by old musicians on stage. I'm sure there were some great plays being watched on the stage inside. ambiance looked great.

My mother and I had a wonderful night, watching Dirty Dancing at Hammer Hall. The show was brilliant, but the stand out part was the accessibility and genuine kindness shown by staff to my mother who is quite unwell. They provided a last minute wheelchair free of charge when we unexpectedly needed one. And then remembered us throughout the night, providing support and checking in on us. It made the night a wonderful experience for us both. Thank you.

It isn't planned but I wandered in after the big poster outside caught my attention. As it was my first time in Melbourne, I didn't have a clue what to expect and how things work out. Laura, the front desk receptionist was very kind and only too eager to help. She even searched her computer re parking fees to help me gauged which was the best form of transport for me to watch the show. She obviously is well suited to the job. Thanks again Laura, for your warm interaction.

The Manchester Unity Building, a striking Gothic office and commercial building in Melbourne, was designed by Marcus Barlow and completed in 1932. Despite being overshadowed by its more famous neighbors like the Melbourne Town Hall, this Art Deco masterpiece stands out on the corner of Swanston Street and Collins Street. Originally owned by the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows (now Australian Unity), its construction was delayed due to the Great Depression.
An absolute joyous deco inspired building in the heart of Melbourne (directly opposite Melbourne Town Hall). Interestingly founded by the International Order of Oddfellows (yes I know what a name but hey 100 years ago!). Beautiful to admire the original fittings, light fixtures, mosiac tiles, escalator and more. Go to take a trip back in time (tours are also run on weekends) and admire what was achieved so long ago which still continues to inspire. 20.9 here for 1.5 hour tour of building which began with coffee and cake in Cafe then a group had a guided tour which was great. So lovely looking at all the old detailing, art Deco touches and more. Such a beautiful old building (1932), wish I lived here!

Amazing tour guide! Kylie shared stories of her childhood that were relevant to the building, and it really added a personal aspect to the tour. The experience could not have been better, even if there was one grump on the tour who complained that didn’t want to hear any stories and seemed to think the tour should have been tailored to his personal taste. Kylie handled the situation with dignity and grace, and everyone else seemed to enjoy every aspect of the tour!

What an amazing foyer. It is a bit like travelling back in time. Find it if you can. One of many fabulous little asides from your main day in Melbourne. I particularly like the tiny spaces for lease. Someone do something amazing there, please.

The Manchester Unity Building in Melbourne is a real showstopper. I wasn't sure what to expect, but as soon as I rounded the corner, I was blown away by this grand, art deco skyscraper. The terracotta tiles shimmered in the sunlight, and the gothic tower added this cool, unexpected touch. I wandered into the ground floor arcade, and it felt like stepping back in time. The mosaic floors were incredible, all these tiny pieces coming together in these grand patterns. The shopfronts had these beautiful metal detailing, and everything looked so polished and cared for. I could have spent ages just browsing the shops and soaking up the atmosphere. If you're in Melbourne and looking for a bit of history and beauty, definitely check out the Manchester Unity Building. It's a true gem of the city. I even saw a sign that they offer tours, which would be amazing to learn more about the building's story.

A stunning Melbourne iconic building that holds a lot of history. It had a makeover some time ago yet still holds the glamour of a bygone era. Located on Spring Street in Melbourne, the Old Treasury Building is a 19th-century architectural gem that now houses a museum showcasing the history of Melbourne and Victoria. Originally serving as the state's treasury, this building has been transformed into an exhibition space featuring collections such as Protest Melbourne and Yarra: Stories of Melbourne's River.
Had a wonderful time here. The staff is lovely and gave me an excellent rundown of the exhibits. The building itself is worth a visit. The interior is beautiful. The exhibits were also great. In the basement, there was a focus on the gold rush and how it impacted the development of Melbourne. The ground floor was focused more generally on the history of Melbourne and its development. There were wonderful displays showing pictures of the city in the past and then pictures from the same point of view in modern times. There were also exhibits that highlighted various social movements related to women’s rights, aboriginal relations, etc. The 1st floor had an exhibit on political cartoons. Overall, a great way to spend a couple of hours to appreciate the history and development of this wonderful city.

Must visit if you're interested about the history of Melbourne. Nicely depicts the timeline from the foundation of Melbourne, growth during the gold rush era, replica of the largest gold nugget 'welcome stranger', lively example of a typical household during the time, various important historical events and stages to the evolution into the great city of today. Basement and part of ground floor is the museum. Easily accessible by tram. Visit is free and you can easily spend a couple of hours.

🏛️ Old Treasury Building in Melbourne is a stunning heritage landmark located on Spring Street, admired for its elegant 19th-century Renaissance Revival design by renowned architect J.J. Clark. Built during the gold rush era, it once housed Victoria’s gold vaults, symbolizing the city’s prosperity and growth. Today, the building serves as a fascinating museum, showcasing Melbourne’s rich history, architecture, and cultural heritage. With its beautiful façade, intricate detailing, and grand interiors, the Old Treasury Building is not only an architectural masterpiece but also a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Melbourne.

Free museum with the history of Melbourne and the Yarra River. There is a recreation of the historical home life of people who lived in the building. The now and then pictures were great showcasing how Melbourne has changed over time. Don't forget to check wthe gold vaults in the basement.

The Old Treasury Building is one of those Melbourne landmarks that sneaks up on you – right there on Spring Street, looking stately and elegant. The architecture is classic, clean, and full of that “old world” charm that makes it perfect for wedding shoots or just an afternoon of wandering with a camera. The steps, the columns, the symmetry – it all feels made for Instagram, and honestly, you don’t have to try hard to get a good shot. It’s the kind of place where even a casual snap looks polished. Inside, there’s some history on Melbourne’s gold rush era, which is interesting if you’ve got the time, but for me it’s really the outside that shines. The building’s presence against the city backdrop makes it both timeless and photogenic. If you’re in the area, it’s an easy stop, and if you’re planning wedding photos or just looking to pad out your feed with something classy, this is a no-brainer.

Luna Park Melbourne is a historic amusement park located in St. Kilda, a vibrant beachside suburb in Melbourne. Since its opening in 1912, this enduring attraction has been captivating both locals and tourists with its blend of old-school charm and modern rides. The park's star attraction is the Great Scenic Railway, the world's oldest continually operating roller coaster, offering stunning views of Port Phillip Bay.
Oldest still operating Luna Park in the world! Love it! I really love the classic scentic railway! A roller coaster that run on momentum, with the right level of excitement and stunning scenery along the track! Riding on scentic railway is my most romantic moment in Melbourne!
Isa W — Google review
Overall, the amusement park makes a good impression, offering a variety of interesting attractions. However, in 4-5 hours, we were only able to go on two rides. The queues for each attraction ranged from 1 to 3 hours. Even in the afternoon, the wait for a simple slide for a small child was 40 minutes. I queued for my child, but he wasn't allowed to go ahead. Therefore, queuing for someone else seems impossible. I would rather call this place a zoo than an amusement park. Unfortunately, such a large number of visitors undoubtedly has a negative impact on the experience of this historical site. I understand that even on weekdays it can be crowded, and during school holidays, it’s likely a real nightmare. It would be sensible to consider the option of selling tickets online and to have separate hours for tourists. After all, standing in line for two hours is certainly very exhausting! Moreover, it’s completely impossible to step away to the toilet for fear of losing your spot.
K K — Google review
🎡 Luna Park Melbourne is one of the city’s most famous amusement parks, but its design may not appeal to everyone. The entrance features the iconic giant clown face with a wide open mouth, which some find creepy and unsettling rather than fun. Personally, I found the design not so nice and a bit scary, so I decided not to enter. While the park is popular with families and thrill-seekers, the overall look might not be inviting if you’re sensitive to bold or unusual designs.
Min M — Google review
Luna Park Melbourne is fun if you’re looking for a throwback, carnival-style amusement park. The heritage roller coaster is a standout, and the park has a quirky, vintage vibe that families and tourists might enjoy. It’s a great spot for kids or for those wanting a more laid-back experience—not a high-adrenaline thrill park. However, some of the rides feel outdated, and the pricing can feel steep considering the size and condition of the park. Queues get long on weekends, and a few rides are sometimes closed without clear notice. It’s charming in its own way, but don’t expect modern theme park standards. Still worth a visit if you’re in the area, but probably more for the atmosphere and photos than for the rides themselves.

Luna Park Melbourne – A Timeless Experience of Joy and Connection I recently visited Luna Park Melbourne with a group of friends, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, the energy of the park was contagious, vibrant, welcoming, and full of life. The blend of classic rides and modern attractions created a perfect balance of nostalgia and excitement. The staff were friendly and professional, ensuring a smooth experience for every visitor. Beyond the fun and laughter, what stood out most was the sense of community and shared joy that Luna Park inspires. Victorian architecture conserved in all these arcades and laneways.
SEOW L — Google review
The prosperity and rapid growth earned Melbourne the nickname "Marvellous Melbourne," a testament to its transformation into one of the wealthiest and most cosmopolitan cities in the world during the late 19th century. When eight tonnes of Victorian gold arrived at London's port in April 1852, the Times of London declared: '... this is California all over again, but, it would appear, California on a larger scale…' Located in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, the Block Arcade is Melbourne's most famous boutique shopping complex. I was immediately struck by the similarities of the Moscow Gum Department Store, with its elongated shop galleries, which is the oldest shopping mall in Europe. Situated in front of the Kremlin, this building is a masterpiece of nineteenth century architecture with the floors comprising ceramic tiles. Another being The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is Italy's oldest active shopping arcade and a major landmark of Milan. Both of which I have visited. Indeed the architect David C Askew was commissioned to produce something similar to the 'Galleria Vittorio Emanuele' in Milan with The Block Arcade which is an iconic, ornate shopping precinct in Melbourne's CBD, opened in 1892 and inspired by the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. The arcade’s name refers to shoppers ‘‘doing the block’’ or promenading through the building. The Italian mosaic tiles is the biggest mosaic floor in Australia. Nowadays, ‘‘doing the queue’’ for pavlova or scones outside the luscious window of the Hopetoun Tea Rooms is the norm, and a Melbourne must, given it is the only original tenant from 1892. The most famous employee of and future entrepreneur of the Hopetoun Tea Rooms, was Helena Rubinstein. Rubinstein, a cosmetician and businesswoman, started her career in Australia, Helena Rubinstein noticed that Australian women had rough, dry, and sun- and wind-damaged skin due to the harsh climate and decided to market a lanolin-based cream, known as "Valaze," to address these concerns, which launched her international cosmetic empire from Melbourne, Australia. Helena Rubinstein became one of the richest women in the world by building a global cosmetics empire from humble beginnings in Poland and Australia. At the time of her death in 1965, she was one of the world's wealthiest women and a significant philanthropist, leaving a legacy in the beauty, business, and art worlds. The phrase "What is the city but the people?" is a quote from William Shakespeare. The collective body of the people is the city. The City of Melbourne mayor and visionary Nicholas Reece, won re-election on a platform that included pushing the government to expand the free tram zone even further. “Extending the free tram zone is just common sense. A few small changes could connect commuters to more of Melbourne’s key destinations,” he says. Reece says extending the zone would support local businesses, encourage visitors to the city, help ease cost-of-living pressures and “ensure that everyone can enjoy the very best our city has to offer. "If you build it, they will come". I am impressed by the vibe and infrastructure of Melbourne city and apparently The Global Liveability Index agrees with me. It is a yearly assessment published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), ranking 173 global cities for their quality of life based on assessments of stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. Melbourne was ranked 4th, a very high accolade for the most liveable city in 2025.

Visited The Block Arcade early in the morning, quiet and easy to explore. Beautiful heritage building with ornate mosaic floors, glass roof, and boutique shops. Fun fact: it was opened in 1893 and is one of Melbourne’s most iconic historic shopping arcades.

fun visual Melbourne experience & see if you can locate their very expensive, truly delicious classic; cuppa tea and marvellous cucumber, smoked salmon wholemeal sangers! Recommend.

A must visit in Melbourne. If you can make a booking for the tea rooms that’s also essential. A tireless tradition for Melbourne visitors. The architecture and decor still well appreciated by many and the building is heritage listed. Do look up and down. The mosaic tiles, the glass ceilings, the archways and painting. Stunning. Plenty of cafes and stores to keep you busy for an hour. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly fly. Pram accessible. Toilets nearby.

The Block Arcade Our morning at The Block Arcade was nothing short of spectacular. This historic arcade, with its intricate architecture and timeless charm, creates an inviting atmosphere that is perfect for leisurely exploration. As we wandered through the beautifully tiled corridors, we found ourselves drawn to the various cafes and eateries that line the arcade, each offering a unique and delectable experience. We began our culinary journey with a perfectly brewed coffee that set the tone for the morning. The rich aroma and smooth taste were just the start of what would be a delightful experience. Moving from one eatery to another, we indulged in an array of freshly baked pastries, each one more delicious than the last. The quality of the food was outstanding, with every bite reflecting the care and craftsmanship that went into its preparation. One of the highlights was discovering a small patisserie where the selection of cakes and tarts was irresistible. The flavours were exquisite, and the presentation was simply beautiful. The staff throughout The Block Arcade were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyment of our visit. Beyond the food, the ambience of The Block Arcade is something to be savoured. The blend of old-world elegance and modern sophistication makes it a unique spot in the heart of the city. It's easy to lose track of time as you explore the arcade, taking in the stunning details of the architecture and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. Whether you're a food lover, a history enthusiast, or simply looking for a place to relax and unwind, The Block Arcade offers something for everyone. Our morning spent there, enjoying the various culinary delights, was truly memorable. It's a place that invites you to slow down, savour the moment, and appreciate the finer things in life.

Melbourne Central is a bustling multilevel space with over 300 retailers, offering a wide array of Australian and international fashion brands, dining options, cafes, pubs, bars, beauty shops, and a world-class cinema. The iconic Coops Shot Tower stands tall under a glass-domed roof and is a popular spot for visitors to catch the hourly performance of the Australian song Waltzing Matilda.
Melbourne in autumn is a great place to explore. Most of the attractions are easy to reach either by foot or local transport, such as trains and trams. A mix of old historical and new towering buildings, multiple parks with autumn colors, cultural exhibitions, and, last but not least, food! Lots of restaurants, cafés, and fast food outlets are located within reach. But be careful, as it can be an expensive vacation, especially concerning food and entertainment.

It is a big shopping centre in the city. There are many shops, cafes, and restaurants. The glass dome with the old shot tower inside is nice to see. You can get there by train or tram, but it can be busy. It is a good place to shop, eat, and spend time.

Major shops, eateries in food court and restaurants, all in one place. Most shops open till 6pm. Do check the Lead shot tower/museum which gives a historic preview of the place. Well connected, tram on the outside, and train station at the basement.

The Coops Shot Tower was built in 1888 and used to make lead shot (small round bullets for firearms) by dropping molten lead from the top so it could form perfect spheres as it fell. It’s one of only a few surviving shot towers in Australia. When the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre was built in the early 1990s, instead of demolishing it, the developers preserved the tower and enclosed it under the large glass cone dome, now one of Melbourne’s most recognisable architectural features.

Went to the market for a look very interesting morning. Worth a visit if you’re interested in that kind of thing. Got some cheap joggers. Plenty to see and buy. Lots of fresh fruit and veggies at reasonable prices. Area was clean and under cover.
Trish O — Google review
Melbourne Central is part train station, part shopping labyrinth, part city living room. You step in from Swanston or La Trobe and the noise shifts from street traffic to the softer buzz of escalators and coffee machines. The glass cone over the old Coop’s Shot Tower still steals the show. Sunlight pours through the lattice, the bricks glow warm, and people constantly stop mid stride to tilt their heads and take a photo. It is a clever blend of heritage and modern design that makes the centre feel more like a civic space than a mall. Stores run the full spectrum, from global fashion names to little specialty spots tucked along laneway style corridors. Food is a big draw. You can grab a quick bánh mì or ramen in the food court, settle into a café for a proper flat white, or head upstairs for cinema snacks before a movie. Entertainment options beyond shopping mean it works just as well for a rainy afternoon as it does for a fast lunch between lectures. The whole place hums at peak times but rarely tips into chaos, helped by wide walkways and plenty of places to pause with a drink and watch the flow. Helpful tips if you are passing through. The station entrance is integrated, so meeting “under the cone” is a foolproof rendezvous. Midweek mornings are the calmest for browsing, while late trading nights give the dome a great after dark glow. Lifts and clear signage make it manageable with prams, and there are enough quiet corners to catch your breath if the crowds build. If you have a few spare minutes, circle the base of the shot tower and look up from different angles. It is a small reminder that Melbourne does indoor public spaces better than most, and it turns an errand stop into something worth lingering over.

Church
St Patrick's Cathedral, a grand 1800s Gothic Revival-style structure, is a significant landmark in Melbourne. It is the largest church building in Australia and boasts an awe-inspiring interior adorned with ornate stained glass windows depicting biblical stories and Catholic Church history. The cathedral also houses one of the country's largest organs, adding to its impressive stature.
I wasn’t expecting to be this moved by a cathedral, but St Patrick’s in Melbourne completely blew me away. From the outside, it’s already stunning, those towering Gothic spires, the dark stone walls, the symmetry, the details it’s like stepping into a different time. But it’s the inside that really got me. As soon as I walked in, everything felt so peaceful. The high ceilings, the soft glow from the stained glass windows, the arches, it felt grand and sacred without being intimidating. Every corner has something beautiful to look at, and you can really feel how much love and care went into building it. What’s amazing is that it’s the largest cathedral in Australia, and you can tell. It’s not just the size, but the presence. There’s this quiet majesty about it that makes you want to just sit down and take it all in. I also learned that it took decades to build, starting in the 1850s. It’s full of history, and yet it still feels alive and meaningful today. And the pipe organ! It’s a massive, old instrument with thousands of pipes, when it plays, it literally fills the whole place with sound. It’s incredible. Whether you’re religious or not, I think anyone could appreciate the beauty, history, and atmosphere of this place. St Patrick’s isn’t just a building, it’s a living piece of Melbourne’s soul.

Stunning Neo-Gothic Cathedral — Best to Visit on Weekdays St. Patrick’s Cathedral is absolutely beautiful. The moment you see it, the building has such an impressive and majestic presence. Inside, the stained-glass windows and the architecture are stunning — every detail makes you stop and look around. I loved the peaceful atmosphere, it’s a place where you can take a break from the busy city and just enjoy the silence. I recommend going during the week because it’s much calmer and you can really appreciate everything without the crowds of visitors on weekends. Definitely one of those spots in Melbourne you shouldn’t miss.

Saint Patrick's Cathedral in East Melbourne is nothing short of breathtaking! From the moment I approached this magnificent cathedral, I was in awe of its stunning Gothic architecture and intricate details. The spires and stained-glass windows are truly a testament to the skill and devotion of the artisans who built this masterpiece. Every corner tells a story, and walking through the cathedral feels like stepping back in time. Inside, the grandeur continues with soaring ceilings, beautifully carved pews, and an atmosphere that instantly inspires peace and reflection. The light filtering through the vibrant stained-glass windows creates an almost magical ambiance, making every visit feel special. The cathedral is immaculately maintained, showing great care and respect for this historic landmark. What impressed me most was the sense of community and reverence that permeates the space. Whether attending a service, exploring as a visitor, or participating in a special event, the staff and volunteers are welcoming, knowledgeable, and eager to share the cathedral’s rich history. Saint Patrick's Cathedral is more than just a religious site; it’s a cultural and historical gem of Melbourne. It offers a place of calm in the busy city and a chance to marvel at architectural brilliance. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting, whether you are seeking spiritual reflection, history, or simply awe-inspiring beauty. This cathedral is a true treasure of Victoria and deserves every one of its five stars!

This is such a wonderful building in Melbourne! Ancient and Gothic looking from the outside and then you go inside and it is an area of peace and sanctity. There is so much history and some beautiful sculptures in and around the Cathedral. The stain glass windows and serenity makes this Cathedral particularly reflective. Thank you to all the staff who ensure the building/gardens are so well kept and maintained. For anybody who is in Melbourne, it is one of the gems.

One of the most stunning landmarks in Melbourne. The cathedral is built in the Decorated Gothic style architecture. The inside is just as peaceful and grand as the outside. Whether you’re religious or not, the calmness and beauty of the space offer a quiet moment of reflection. It’s free to enter, and not too crowded on weekdays. If you go around golden hour (late afternoon), the sunlight through the stained glass is truly breathtaking.

One of the most beautiful and breathtaking cathedrals we have been to. The architecture, statues, stain glass, displays, etc are moving. If you go on a partly cloudy day with the sun shining intermittently, you’ll get a special visual treat. More importantly than all of that is the peace and sense of holiness. Also check out the gift shop. I wish we had gotten the name of the gentleman working there. He was so kind, helpful, and friendly. We were so blessed to talk to him:)

Another lovely church with a detailed exterior. Beautiful gardens and quiet when I went in the evening. We were allowed to be inside for a while before the security closed the church to visitors.

Visited at around 4pm and there’s not many people in and around the church ground. It’s so peaceful walking around the church compound and inside the cathedral. A really beautiful architecture coupled with amazing stained glass, and the sunlight streaming in from the windows, just made the visit so delightful and peaceful. Although I’m not a Christian, I would happily come here to find peace. An easy walk if you are in Fitzroy gardens.

Cooks' Cottage is a historic building located in the serene Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne. Originally constructed in Yorkshire, England in 1755, it was later transported to Australia as a tribute to Captain James Cook's family. Although the famous explorer never resided here, his father built the cottage. Visitors can explore its interior, which showcases 18th-century living with period furniture and artifacts.
I Can't believe I stepped into this cottage. It's like going back to the past and visualizing life back then. It's amazing to see how well this house has been preserved and placed in the centre of a very beautiful garden in Melbourne. Would love to come here again and explore more.

Today Impacters (Impact English College) of GE Intermediate 5 had a fantastic experience visiting the Parliament House of Victoria. The excursion was very well-organized and professionally led, with the guide who was incredibly knowledgeable, welcoming, and supportive—especially for students who are still developing their English skills. The staff took the time to explain the history, structure, and function of the Victorian Parliament in a clear and engaging way. They created a very inclusive and respectful environment, which made us feel comfortable and encouraged to participate and ask questions. The building itself is absolutely beautiful—both inside and out. The grand architecture, detailed interiors, and historic chambers were breathtaking. It was fascinating to walk through such an important and iconic part of Victoria’s history. This excursion was not only educational, but also truly inspiring. We highly recommend it to other international students and educational groups. A big thank you to the Parliament staff for making this visit so memorable!

I recently visited Victoria’s Parliament House in Melbourne, and it was such a fantastic experience! Not only is it free, but the tour is also packed with history, beautiful architecture, and lots of opportunities for photos. Here’s what my visit was like Just walk in, make sure you get there 30 minutes early to secure a spot (tours are first-come, first-served, with about 20 people per session). The process was simple: - I went through a security check - Stored my bag in the designated area - And showed my ID (electronic version worked perfectly). ⭐️Tour Highlights 1️⃣ Front Hall A grand entrance with a beautiful mosaic floor and high ceilings. 2️⃣ Queen’s Hall Bright and elegant with chandeliers and arched windows. There was even a Christmas tree when I visited, which made it extra special. 3️⃣ Legislative Assembly (Green Room) Sitting in the green seats where laws are debated was such a cool experience. Before leaving, you can stand at the front for a “speaker’s podium” photo—so fun! 4️⃣ Legislative Council (Red Room) The red and gold decor here was gorgeous, and the staff shared some great stories about its history. 5️⃣ Library My favorite spot! It looks like it’s straight out of Harry Potter, with its domed ceiling and sparkling chandeliers. Staff there are incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, making the entire experience so smooth and enjoyable. This was hands down one of the best free experiences I’ve had in Melbourne. If you’re in Melbourne, I highly recommend this public tour. Whether you’re into history, architecture, or just looking for something fun and free to do, this tour has it all!

Peninsula Hot Springs, located in Fingal on the Mornington Peninsula, offers a range of bathing and wellness experiences. The expansive 42-acre site features over 70 globally inspired bathing experiences, including geothermal mineral waters flowing from deep underground. Visitors can explore various pools, saunas, steam baths, and reflexology walks set amidst rolling hills and coastal bush.
Always such a lovely day out visiting the Hot Springs! Absolutely love the steam room! Doing your own body scrub leaves your skin feeling soft & leaves you nice & relaxed! All the bathing spots are very relaxing, especially the ones with jets. It’s a very nice way to spend the day pampering yourself & spending time with friends & family. Weekdays aren’t as busy & less kids if you’re wanting to escape their noise. There are a few areas that are kid free (but could do with a few more). The pop-up adult only tapas & wine bar was beautifully styled & the food was amazing! The service was friendly. The clay body painting activity was fun! Locker, robe & towel hire is great, no need to bring your own & have wet things to go home with (also it can leave a permanent funny smell to your towels/bathers so easier to use theirs). One trip recently we had all of our dry dressing gowns taken intentionally & the people left behind their soaking wet ones grrrr, management replaced them without hesitation, so after that we now tie our thongs to the belt of the dressing gowns so no one could take ours! A little bit pricey the last few years, it jumped up significantly after Covid, bit expensive now for a family day out, but still well worth a trip! Highly recommend!

We had a truly wonderful day out at Peninsula Hot Springs on the Mornington Peninsula. The whole experience, bathhouse, food, drink and setting, was just superb. From the moment we arrived the peaceful natural surroundings set the tone. We enjoyed lunch as part of our visit, opting for a delicious platter set for 2 which came with a drink. The platter was beautifully prepared, generous in portion and filled with great flavours. The included drink was the perfect addition to our meal. The attention to detail in the dining room (by the springs), fresh, thoughtful and relaxing. The seamless transition from lunch to spa/bathing with ease and comfort. The staff were attentive and welcoming, making what could have been a routine outing feel like a real treat. The location on the Mornington Peninsula is ideal: scenic, easy to get to and far enough from the city to feel like an escape.

We visited Peninsula Hot Springs ♨️ in the late evening with family, and it was such a relaxing experience. Though a bit crowded, the atmosphere was calm and enjoyable. The place is very kids-friendly, with pools of different temperatures perfect for all ages. The hilltop pool was the highlight offering a stunning panoramic view, especially during sunset. The warm water and cool evening air made it unforgettable. Despite the crowd, it was worth it and a great family experience overall.

I always have a wonderful time at Peninsula Hot Springs. I do the Fire and Ice experience whenever I am there. I dread it but I love the challenge and how fantastic I feel afterwards. On my latest visit (10-10-2025) they had the Sauna Aufguss experience on offer and apparently only for a limited time of a few weeks so if you are seeing this and the time frame suits, I highly recommend the Sauna Aufguss experience. I loved it so much that after it was finished I went and booked in for the next session so that I could do it twice. The atmosphere at the Hot Springs is so relaxing and totally beautiful. It really is very well landscaped and planned. There are so many different themed areas where you can visit and all of them are beautiful and comfortable. The staff are always smiling, helpful and friendly. The food on offer in the cafe is reasonably priced and very nice. This is one of my favourite places and I love to visit quite a few times a year and have always had a wonderful time and a positive experience.

My husband and I went here for a day visit. Firstly the lady's at reception are super welcoming and very friendly. There are plenty of pool options, you will have to get comfortable with the idea of bathing with strangers 😂 because it is super busy, but once you move past that it is really quite lovely. Even the walk around to the different pools is lovely. They offer lots of options to relax, hammocks, bean bag style chairs, benches and big domes you can go into to lay down. The hill top pool was definitely a highlight, offering a 360° view of the surrounding hills. But a personal favourite was the cave pool. I will definitely be coming back on my next Melbourne trip!

I had an incredible experience at the Hot Springs! We opted for the Dine & Bath package, and it was absolutely worth it. I’d visited before for general bathing, but this took it to a whole new level. The food was delicious, and the service was exceptional throughout our visit. One of the highlights was spending time in the Spa Dreaming Centre — it was incredibly calming and relaxing. We also enjoyed the general bathing area, which was just as lovely. The entire property is serene and beautifully maintained, with immaculate gardens that added to the peaceful atmosphere. Truly, it felt like a little slice of heaven. I look forward to returning again

Very enjoyable visit. Loved all the different bathing pools. Our dip in bathing barrels was amazing. Our light lunch was perfect. The hill top bathing was very busy and unfortunately people swapped our dry robes for wet ones - recommend you keep an eye on your robes. Bit cold during winter but beautiful calm beach with a few dining places close by on the esplanade. Gorgeous on a summers day, and there’s usually a bit more ‘atmosphere’ at the local eateries and bars. Recommend visiting in the warmer months to get the best experience!

I came to St Kilda Beach around 2 PM with a friend from uni — and even though it was my second time here, it felt like the first. There’s something about this place that instantly slows you down. The cold winter air, the quiet beach, the open view of the ocean — it makes you stop and breathe. Unlike when I visited in December (when it was packed and full of wild energy), this time it was calm. Peaceful. Almost therapeutic. We walked slowly, clicked some photos, had deep chats, and just existed for a while. I noticed people walking alone with their headphones in, some listening to audiobooks, others jogging or just watching the waves. It made me realize — everyone here was doing something to reconnect with themselves. To relax. To think. That’s what I love about this place: it’s more than just a beach. It’s a reminder to pause. A place where you can let go of the pressure, the deadlines, the overthinking. Even in silence, it feels like the sea is talking to you. Whether you’re with a friend or alone, St Kilda Beach is the perfect spot to reflect, reset, and feel human again. Highly recommend coming here in winter if you want peace — no crowd, no noise, just the sound of the waves and your thoughts.

My family experienced incredible emotions on this train. It was amazing! We saw lots of animals. Many people with smiles! For the kids, it was like a fairytale, very magical! The whole staff was incredibly kind! The only thing that upset me was that you need to book one to two months in advance! Had an amazing time yesterday at the puffing Billy steam train ride from Belgrave to Gembrook return It was a beautiful sunny day and the landscape and scenery was spectacular ..Almost like our train ride in Switzerland . The steam train was beautiful and it takes you back in time to the year 1900. I was a proud Victorian and was glad the puffing Billy stood the test of time The staff were all so pleasant and. Happy to be serving you . You could see that they love their job , especially our carriage attendant Vicky . We did this train ride when our daughter was 2. She is now 31. So it was a beautiful walk down memory lane .

Puffing Billy Railway – A Journey Through Time and Nature I recently had the opportunity to experience the Puffing Billy Railway, and it was truly a unique and memorable adventure. Travelling through the lush landscapes of the Dandenong Ranges on this historic steam train felt like stepping back in time, an experience that blends nostalgia, beauty, and a sense of connection with Victoria’s heritage. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff’s enthusiasm made the journey even more enjoyable. From the gentle rhythm of the train to the breathtaking scenery along the way, every moment was thoughtfully preserved and authentically Australian. It reminded me that sometimes, the best experiences are those that slow us down and let us appreciate history, nature, and the simple joy of the journey itself.

Took a ride on a chilly, rainy spring day, the first leg to Emerald was freezing, but the return trip was perfect, so we got to sit on the railing and really feel the wind in our faces. It’s fun for kids and adults who want to unleash their inner child, though don’t expect jaw-dropping scenery, mostly forest, some backyards, a tall wooden bridge, and locals waving as you pass. The real magic? The steam, the hissing, the smell of the old train. It’s pure nostalgia, an old-school steam train experience that’s more about the journey than the views. 🚂

Puffing Billy requires advance booking, the ticket can purchase online at the official Puffing Billy Railway website. I had a great time on the Puffing Billy Railway. It was such a fun and memorable trip, especially sitting with my legs dangling out. The scenery through the forests and mountains offered amazing views.

2025/10 Puffing Billy Railway 上車坐在面對前進方向右側,風景好 The Puffing Billy Railway is one of Australia’s most famous and historic steam railways, located in the Dandenong Ranges, about 40 kilometers east of Melbourne. Originally built in 1900 to serve local communities and transport goods such as timber and potatoes, it is now a popular tourist attraction that offers a nostalgic journey through beautiful forests and fern gullies. The railway operates heritage steam trains that travel from Belgrave to Lakeside or Gembrook, passing through scenic landscapes, mountain villages, and iconic wooden trestle bridges. Passengers can enjoy the unique experience of sitting on the open-sided carriages’ window ledges with their legs dangling outside—something that has become a beloved tradition. Today, Puffing Billy is run mainly by volunteers and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. It is not only a fun ride but also a living museum that preserves Australia’s early railway history
Paul W — Google review
A historical locomotive train and it amazed me to be able to see up close how it works, both before departure and after arriving at Lakeside station. I feel the ride to Lakeside is the sweet spot as it takes about 45 minutes one way. The wooden trestle bridge section is the highlight of the journey. Only when I was on the train I realised many people actually drive to that spot just to photograph the passing train. Many people waved as the train passed by. We also enjoyed the forest scenery in spring and even spotted some rabbits and what looked like either deer or kangaroo. There is not much to do at Lakeside if you are not eating, but time passed quickly. We took a slow stroll near the lake and visit the small museum. Tickets sell out fast so you need to book well in advance. A must-try experience at least once when you are in Melbourne.

An experience to have legs hanging out over the edge as you ride on the train. So lovely that homes along the journey take the time to decorate extra items to entertain and put a smile on faces as we go past. Love that staff dress in original days clothing and give us friendly waves as we depart. Good experience.

The Immigration Museum, located in the historic Customs House on Flinders Street, offers a compelling exploration of Australia's immigration history. Through multimedia exhibits and interactive displays, it delves into the journeys and experiences of refugees and immigrants who settled in Victoria. The museum showcases personal stories, family photos, historical documents, and archival images to illustrate the contributions made by immigrants to Australian culture and society. It provides a timely opportunity for visitors to gain insight into global refugee crises while reflecting on Melbourne's multicultural heritage.
It was a very WOW, Fun, 100% amazing and very interactive and memorable and incredibly informative experience for me . As I am the immigrant from HK since 1998. I totally can related to what exhibits at the moment and it’s very interesting and it just blow my mind thank you #immigration #museum #victoria #melbourne #aUS . Bang on Victorian politicians or government ministers…etc. well spent on funding for something like that 👍❤️🙏🥰. Okay I better stop talking too much on Google official platform here as my photos can tell a million words…. And yes I am Asian and my English may not very Aussie . lol

Went in on a whim because a tour was picking us up outside of the museum and it was fantastic! Never would have expected it. A whole kids play area too! Absolutely wonderful. Great throwbacks as well. Definitely worth a visit, also cool interactive displays like seeing what it's like immigrating.

Immigration Museum – A Journey Through Stories and Heritage I visited the Immigration Museum in Melbourne with a friend, and it proved to be a deeply rewarding experience. As someone who loves museums, I found this visit exceptional from start to finish. From the moment we entered the historic Old Customs House building on Flinders Street, its architecture alone speaks to Melbourne’s past; there was a sense of stepping into both history and present‑day relevance. Inside, the exhibition spaces are thoughtfully arranged to tell multiple stories: why people migrate, how they arrive, the challenges they face, and the contributions they make. Every gallery was well‑designed, with a blend of personal testimonies, historical objects, interactive displays, and immersive narrative. One moment that stood out: recognizing how migration is not just about physical journeys, but also about identity, belonging and change, things we all can relate to. The museum’s thoughtful attention to experience is evident. They provide accessible entrances and supports for sensory‑sensitive visitors, showing the commitment to inclusion. The multiple levels of the building allow both a broad perspective of immigration history and deeper dives into specific cultural stories. What I valued most about the visit was how it made me reflect not only on the past of Victoria and Australia, but also on my own sense of place and identity. Sharing the tour with a friend enhanced the experience, as we discussed what resonated, what surprised us, and what stays with us. In short: this was more than a museum visit, it was an invitation to appreciate our collective journeys, our communities, and the stories that shape us. Visiting the Immigration Museum reminded me that learning about others’ stories inevitably enriches how we understand our own.

Stepping inside Melbourne’s historic Old Customs House to explore the Immigration Museum was such a fascinating experience – a glimpse into the stories, journeys and cultures that shaped Australia. 🗺✨ The highlight for me was Beci Orpin’s Joy – a burst of colour, creativity and belonging. I honestly felt like I’d stepped right back into my childhood 🧡 Jumping on the giant fluffy bunny was the best part (I could’ve happily napped there all day!). Another favourite was Video Land – pure nostalgia stacked on every shelf. 🎬✨ It instantly took me back to the 90s… Friday night trips to Blockbuster, searching for new releases and hoping they weren’t all rented out.

An overlooked gem that’s worth visiting for locals and tourists alike. The Joy exhibition is nearly done but we loved it. The rest of the museum is really interesting and well done.
Nicholas R — Google review
I visited the Immigration Museum on a Saturday in September 2025. Coincidentally, it was the same day as immigration protests outside which ironically made the museum itself pretty quiet. The museum is right in the city and super easy to get to, with plenty of trams out the front and Flinders Street as well as Southern Cross Station just a short walk away. The building itself is a large, old heritage building with clear signage, accessible entry, and beautiful traditional architecture that really sets the vibe as you step inside. Entry is free for concession card holders and reasonably priced for adults. I walked in and with no wait, got my ticket from one of the friendly staff. On the ground floor there’s a cosy reading room, including a kids’ section, plus an outdoor patio and a peaceful courtyard. They are the perfect spots to pause and soak in the atmosphere. Even the bathrooms here impressed me! They were spotless, modern, and filled with natural light. A huge contrast from the immersive theming of the exhibits but a really nice touch. Level one holds the permanent Immigration Museum exhibition, which is packed with interactive displays for both kids and adults. It explores the journey of immigration throughout history while also acknowledging how Indigenous owners were neglected in that process. There’s a gorgeous ballroom full of history and more exhibits that cover the 1900s, the impact of war, and how shifting ideologies shaped migration policies. Often with devastating consequences for individuals and families which is covered really well. On level two I was lucky enough to catch the temporary Joy exhibition, which was incredible. The foyer had a wall where visitors could write and share their own sparks of joy, and the exhibition itself was a series of immersive, artistic rooms interpreting joy in all kinds of ways. Highlights for me were the giant bunny room and the recreated Video Ezy shop filled with old VHS tapes. It was nostalgic, interactive, and honestly just so fun to explore. That level also continues the immigration story with personal accounts and reflections, connecting the past to modern immigration experiences and challenging how we see and treat people today. It was moving, thought provoking, and beautifully presented. The staff were warm and welcoming, the whole space felt inclusive and engaging, and I honestly loved my time here. If you want to better understand Australia’s immigration story, this is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. And if you get the chance, don’t miss the Joy exhibit before it finishes, it’s creative and super nostalgic.

What a wonderful place to visit. My parents were immigrants to Australia in the 50s and a lot of the photos held special meaning to me. You could easily spend over half a day reading all the information that is held here.

The staff are super friendly and helpful. The museum has a mixture of videos, displays, text, and interactive exhibits so it can appeal to different ages and preferences. Also has an exhibition space with interactive artworks which currently includes a replica video rental store. The museum has elevators and ramps for accessibility.

The Burrata Festival was great — I loved that it wasn’t overloaded with the same type of food stalls, which made it a unique experience. However, I do feel there shouldn’t have been an entry fee (or if so, it should’ve been minimal). The stall prices also didn’t feel very reasonable for a festival setting. That said, the overall food experience was exceptional 😋, and that’s really what the night was all about — enjoying delicious food and great vibes!

Love visiting South Melbourne Market! There’s such a great variety of food and goods — from fresh produce and seafood to homeware and little gifts. The market is clean, tidy, and always has a nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed the coffee and pastry while strolling around, and picked up some household items too. The biggest surprise was the sea urchin — I’ve never seen one so big before! And the oysters were incredibly fresh — I love that natural (taste of the sea). Absolutely worth checking out if you enjoy good food and fresh seafood.

I really enjoy South Melbourne Market, and it’s definitely one of my favourites. The market is always vibrant and lively, yet clean and well organised. There’s a great variety from fresh produce, gourmet foods, and street eats to seafood, meats, fashion, and homewares. We especially love the pastries from Agathé and the fresh oysters and prawns from the seafood stalls.

Abbotsford Convent, a nonprofit cultural center located in a picturesque and historically rich setting, is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and admirers of architecture. Once a convent for thousands of girls, it has been transformed into a thriving hub for arts and culture. The site offers diverse attractions such as galleries, studios, cafes, and sprawling gardens to explore. Visitors can participate in art classes or workshops, enjoy live music performances, or savor meals at on-site eateries.
This place is very close to the city, yet the buildings from the 1800s are so well preserved. The surrounding architecture and nature are absolutely beautiful. It felt like a scene from a movie or a painting — I was completely satisfied with the atmosphere.

I’ve photographed many weddings at Abbotsford Convent and it’s such an iconic Melbourne venue. The mix of historic architecture and lush gardens create endless photo opportunities. As a photography enthusiast, Abbotsford Convent is an absolute dream location! The grounds are stunning, with a mix of beautiful gardens, historical buildings, and incredible textures that make for endless creative opportunities. The atmosphere is so peaceful and inspiring. A special shout-out to the bakery - the ham, cheese, and tomato croissant was, without a doubt, the best I've ever had!

Went to Abbotsford Convent recently for a walk in the afternoon and had a fantastic time! If you enjoy art, gardens, good food and just wandering, this place ticks a lot of boxes. The buildings are beautiful with its old convent architecture, courtyards, heritage mix. There are art studios, galleries, creative workshops going on, so there’s always something interesting to see. You don't have to participate, but you can walk along, take a peek and feel inspired by the artistry. The grounds are big enough that it never feels too crowded. The gardens, lawns, shady trees are great for sitting with a book, having a picnic, or meeting a friend for coffee. The cafe and bakery near the entrance are solid. Good treats with nice settings. Around the back of the property there's a nice walking path where you can see some animals like ponies and sheep, which are a favourite with the kids. Parking can be a bit tricky, so plan a bit ahead of time. And wear comfy shoes, because there’s quite a bit of walking if you want to explore all the corners. Overall, it’s one of my favourite inner‑Melbourne spots to relax, soak up some art, and enjoy a nice food & nature combo. Would go back easily.

The Brighton Bathing Boxes, located about 12km south of Melbourne city center at Brighton Beach, are a collection of 82 brightly colored wooden beach huts dating back to the early 1900s. Originally used for changing into swimwear during the Victorian era, these iconic and much-photographed structures have become a staple of the beachfront. Each hut has its own unique design and character, making them a popular spot for tourists and locals alike to capture memorable photos.
I recently visited the Brighton Bath Box on a day with a beautiful clear blue sky, and it was an amazing experience. The vibrant colors of the beach boxes looked even more striking against the bright sky and sparkling water. Walking along the shoreline, I felt relaxed and inspired by the peaceful atmosphere and the gentle sound of the waves. The area was easy to access, and there was plenty of space to enjoy a stroll or just sit and take in the views. I couldn’t resist taking lots of photos—the combination of the colorful boxes, golden sand, and blue sky made every shot look incredible. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Brighton Bath Box, especially on a sunny day. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing day out, capturing great photos, and enjoying the unique charm of Melbourne’s coastline.

The Brighton Beach bathing boxes were quite interesting and are definitely a popular spot for tourists. They’re also a good option if you enjoy hiking, as you can walk along the coast to places like the Red Bluff Lookout. That said, the bathing boxes themselves weren’t as special as I expected, though maybe the gloomy weather on the day I visited played a part. Still, it was nice to learn about the historical purpose behind them.

A famous spot to visit when in Melbourne. We stopped here briefly just to “check-in” and take some photos with the brightly coloured bathing boxes lining the beach. Each one is uniquely painted and looks great in pictures. The area was smaller than I expected, but still worth a short visit. We took a stroll, snapped some photos, and left after a while. There’s also a café if you want to sit and enjoy the beach view.

Brighton Bathing Boxes are an iconic Melbourne highlight—rows of brightly painted beach huts along Dendy Street Beach that are perfect for photos at sunrise or sunset. The beach is clean with gentle waves, and there’s a long walking path if you want a scenic stroll. Parking is available nearby (often paid and busy on weekends), and cafés are within a short drive. Remember the huts are privately owned, so admire from outside and be respectful. A must-visit for visitors and locals alike.

The building is gorgeous, although the H&M signage and fake greenery does it no favours. Also the interior, when it was still the actual GPO, was beautifully painted in period colours and now it's all just white 😔. The best of the GPO building now is Postal Lane and it's restaurants. Great eating but also a lovely Lane to walk through to Little Bourke St, with lots of little historic details retained, including the scrapes on the walls from cars!

I'm not a huge fan of H&M However they did a fantastic job. It's close to Myers and there are great cafes in the lane way next door. Must visit if your in the city

A nice place to spend precious time for shopping. The place is no more known to be GPO as now H&M store is there. Situated in the heart of Melbourne city, this place is really nice to sit on the stairs and enjoy the beauty of city. The other outlets close to this place are David Jones and Myers.

After an amazing makeover, Melbourne's GPO, an iconic heritage listed building, is now a truly unique retail fashion, cosmetics and homeware shopping complex, with nice and trendy, mixed eateries in the adjoining laneway. On the corner of Bourke and Elizabeth Streets, it's at the heart of Melbourne's Bourke Street Mall. Truly a great place to visit if shopping or just wanting a quick bite or coffee in a trendy Melbourne area. Either before or after your visit, you must sit on the steps and listen to some of the best buskers in Melbourne perform. If you're new to Melbourne then Melbourne's GPO is a must visit. The buzz there is amazing!

Bank
Situated at the intersection of Collins and Queen streets, the ANZ Branch Gothic, also known as Melbourne's 'Gothic Bank', was constructed between 1883 and 1887. The building boasts a Venetian-Gothic style banking hall with opulent features such as a decorative ceiling, relief carved wood doors, exterior stone carvings, and ornate wall decorations adorned with 23-karat gold leaf.
Very friendly service at the fastest time possible on the last working day of the year! Thank you Richi & Allan in the home loan services. The gothic bank building is also a Melbournian gen that you MUST visit regardless of banking with ANZ or not... Simply STUNNING

Quite a late submission review. I came in here for a break away from the heat. It was cooling and quiet in the building, and the older people who were also there for a glance were so welcoming. I was approached by a man ever so welcoming, letting me know that there's drawers where you can access a view of some historical stuff with anz back then ect and that I can take as many pictures as I'm wanting to. This place is a beautiful, clean, frozen part of history. It was not crowded at all as well. Such amazing displays of the gothic architecture, tucked away from minimalism.

Melbourne’s best-kept secret. Take a moment out of your day and visit this stunning building. Recently renovated, this is both and ANZ branch, historic building and a museum. The ‘gothic bank’ was built in 1883 is beautiful inside and out - and contains so much breathtaking craftsmanship, you won’t know what to look at first! I was shown around by the excellent guide, Richie. One of the best things to see in Melbourne CBD, and it’s completely free.

Outstanding French gothic style building with service to match. A monetary museum that offers practical banking service and facilities. Cheque it!

NOT a bank anymore. It's just a museum. Don't go there. They don't do customer service any more. Be aware they do not give you your money any more. Don't waste your time. Go to westpack or commonwealth bank. They closed almost all their branches and put only home loans in it. No port Melbourne, no Brunswick, no parkville, no Fitzroy, no Collingwood nothing any more.

Reviewing this place as a place with great architecture. Simply stunning! Good that they have information about its history as well.

I recently visited this branch (388 Collins St) to open my new account. As it was my very first bank account in Australia, I was a bit anxious to know how things are done here. I was greeted promptly in the branch and guided to the banker for my appointment. Nothing felt complex, and in a short period, I had an active account that I could access immediately via my phone while I waited for the physical card to arrive in the post. Furthermore, I was very impressed with the banker's knowledge and excellent advice. I came out with a great point of contact that I can reach out to for my future needs, like buying my first home here. It was an example of outstanding service; thank you, Richa!

Left neutral review not to impact overall score. Human error saw us capture incorrect number when calling back initially. Tracked down poor Mr Walshe below and one of our 388 Collins St team had called already to assist! Apologied for error. On another note branch closed last week until mid March 2024 when we reopened after a refurbishment! We will be a branch in a museum. Assisted Service model.

Government House in Victoria is a stunning mansion that showcases the grandeur of nineteenth-century residential architecture. It offers National Trust tours twice a week, allowing visitors to explore its ballroom, dining room, drawing room, billiard room, kitchen, and stables. The house is surrounded by the picturesque King's Domain Gardens which also feature the Myer Music Bowl and the Shrine of Remembrance.
Beautiful building, what you can see from the gate. If you're nearby it's worth a photo op. The guards are very kind and let me walk right up to the gate to take photos. Don't believe the hours listed in Google maps. The guard says it is only open to the public on January 26th, Australia Day
Jan S — Google review
Should you ever get the chance in Melbourne to visit a landmark building at the height of the Italianate style of the 1870’s then Government House is a must. Built in the “Marvellous Melbourne“ period when the whole city was being built on gold, this place echoes the sheer opulence of the time. I’m reliably informed the ballroom (pic) is 10 feet longer than the one at Buckingham Palace. When Queen Victoria heard of this, she was not amused.
Pod G — Google review
When this is opens on Australia Day ,Definitely GO it’s beautiful in and outside along with food trucks outside on the day,a great celebration.
Lisa H — Google review
This place is beautiful! I believe it's only open to the public twice a year - on Australian Day and mid year as part of Open House Melbourne. Visited on the Australia Day Open Day, and not only were you allowed on the grounds (inside and out), there was a big stage with family friendly entertainment throughout the day, umbrellas for shading (in addition to the natural shading from mature trees), food trucks, children activities like face painting, play areas, mini farm, fire services letting kids have a mini lesson on handling a fire hose with pressured down water etc. You can visit the stables, have a game of tennis, lawn bowl, croquet. The air force roulettes also put on a show on the day - granted you could probably see them at other areas in the city, but you could see most of their manoeuvres clearly, plus they had someone from the force commentating on the actions on the main stage. Whilst the inside of the house has some pretty unique architectural designs, the outside grounds were simply magnificent. There were sections where I felt like I was not only transported away from the city, but also into another country. So all in all I would highly recommend a visit!
Sventek — Google review
What an amazing place to visit. Both the building and the gardens are magnificent. Built from the Victorian Gold Rush era, it reflects the extravagant style of the period, and the confidence and wealth of the Victorian gold rush. It's palatial and to this day remains to be the largest residential building in Australia. It has about 240 rooms including outbuildings and together with its outbuildings, gardens and grounds, stands out as one of the grandest houses in the nation. If you ever get the chance, then a visit to this historical mansion is highly recommended.

I love the Open House events that happen once a year in Melbourne, then you have a chance to see inside the house. It is very impressive inside and the building itself. Very easy to arrive, lots public transport to get there. The only think that I didn't like much was the green carpet on the dinner room.

This dynamic institution offers an array of engaging experiences that cater to all ages. From interactive exhibits to thought-provoking displays, ACMI immerses visitors in the captivating world of screen culture.
Absolutely love this place, it’s a Melbourne institution. Any excuse to bring my kid along here. This time we came along for the Game Worlds exhibition, which is fantastic and one of the best major exhibitions they’ve had for a while. Very interactive and educational, and you’ll spend about 2 hours in here so it’s worth the money. Go with friends and kids they’ll have a great time.

A really cool museum! They give you a discount when you walk in that allows you the ability to download any information on any exhibit in the museum. When you get home you can pull up all the cool stuff you saw and liked during your visit. Really neat touch that brings a piece of the museum home with you. Definitely recommend, great exhibits with some cool interactive stations. Plan to stay a while looking around.

Visiting ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) in Melbourne was an immersive and inspiring experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was struck by how beautifully the museum blends art, technology, and storytelling. The permanent exhibition, The Story of the Moving Image, took me on a journey through the evolution of film, television, video games, and digital culture. Interactive displays encouraged me to engage directly with the material — I could edit a short film, step into iconic movie scenes, and even create my own stop-motion animation. Every section was thoughtfully curated, showcasing how moving images shape the way we see ourselves and the world. Beyond the exhibits, ACMI’s atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming. The staff were knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do, happy to share insights or recommend hidden gems within the museum. The design of the space itself — sleek, modern, and filled with light — made it easy to lose track of time wandering through its galleries. I finished my visit with a coffee at the café and a browse through the gift shop, which offered clever film-themed merchandise and local art. Overall, ACMI felt like more than just a museum — it was a celebration of creativity, innovation, and the power of storytelling in all its forms.

So interactive, 10/10, my favourite museum now Went on a Saturday but it wasn’t that crowded It’s even free to enter and they give you this little disc to tap around the museum and add it to the disc. This disc can show your collected favourites at the end. You can bring it home too and check ur collection on their website. I love the game section and played Untitled Goose Game. Everything else was so informative and cool and as a movie/game lover myself it certainly exceeded my expectations of an art museum Ranked as my favourite museum of all the museums I’ve ever visited, wish it was in my homeland coz I’ll go back to it like every single day

The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia is a must-visit for art enthusiasts in Melbourne. Located within Federation Square, it houses over 70,000 pieces of historic indigenous art, contemporary works, and artifacts. The gallery spans three levels and features an ever-changing selection of Australian art from the 19th century to the present day by renowned artists like Sidney Nolan and Arthur Boyd.
I had a great time exploring various Bark painting artworks, which are recognized as a unique genre of art. The pieces were very intuitive, making it perfect to enjoy the exhibition while having meaningful conversations with my child. As part of the special (ticketed) exhibition, we also got to see the beautiful dresses designed by Martin Grant. It was a wonderful opportunity to explain the roles of a fashion designer and a model to my child in an easy and engaging way.
Raina J — Google review
The exhibition at the Ian Potter Centre was genuinely interesting, featuring a strong selection of valuable artworks. Although the collection is relatively small and not always organised in clear chronological or geographical order, it is still worth visiting and left a good impression. Unfortunately, our experience was significantly let down by the behaviour of a staff member, likely a security guard, who stopped us while we were quietly viewing the ground-level display. He insisted I return to the entrance and leave my small designer backpack at the cloakroom. When I asked why, I was told that “all gigantic bags that do not fit the frame must be left.” My bag is very small, serving as a purse, and clearly not “gigantic.” I politely asked to test the bag in the frame to verify the claim, but was denied without explanation. The staff member simply said, “You must leave your bag or you cannot enter,” and did not allow any discussion. To avoid creating a scene, I complied and left my bag at the cloakroom. After the visit, I returned and tested the bag in the frame myself while the staff member was elsewhere and only a cloak officer was there. As expected, it fit perfectly, even alongside a pack of disposable bags already inside the frame. I found this extremely disappointing. While I fully respect policies that protect artworks and support reasonable bag checks, these rules should be applied with fairness and common sense. The manner in which I was treated felt unnecessarily authoritarian, as if the individual was more interested in exercising power than ensuring safety. Sadly, this brief but unpleasant encounter tainted what could have been a wonderful gallery visit. I hope management reviews staff training and policies to prevent future visitors from having a similarly negative experience.

Went here with my son and we paid for the Cats and Dogs art exhibition. Managed to join a tour at 1:30pm which was good, to get some more insight into some of the pieces. Stumbled upon some truly lifelike sculptures towards the end. Uncanny. Had a good time!

Had a wonderful guided tour of Australian art and history. Unfortunately the lady guiding it did not have strong english, or understand Australian history or art to do this magnificent display justice. Politically incorrect maybe but our group strained to understand what she was telling us. Also did not understand the addition of Chinese and Indian culture wax figures to this display. But our guide loved them and spent too long of the hour admiring them. Came to see Australian art and history and not a reminder of mass immigration changing every aspect of our culture.
Marie — Google review
Visited here to escape the crazy outside world for a bit, yesterday. It was a good choice. For the reminder of how history spills so much blood into the sand, of how beautiful objects can sometimes tell ugly stories, of how our world views change and grow – or shrink – daily, yet we are convinced that in any given moment we are fixed and eternally ourselves... And for the ability to just sink into the artworks on show, to lose myself in someone else's vision, to meditate on a different experience, a different history... As a school girl I loved the lyrical qua-realism works of the Australian impressionists and art-nouveau; they're here, and lovely. But this time I was bowled over by the indigenous work (most especially those pictured – just wow) as well as the MCM era and ... basically there's such a range of quality across the Australian story. Also, the little nooks and corners of pottery, precious metalwork, clothing; the quiet spaces to rest a moment in front of work that justified slow study ... all good.
Pam S — Google review
We had a wonderful experience visiting the Cats & Dogs exhibition at The Ian Potter Centre. The artworks were impressive—beautifully capturing different moments and eras in the lives of cats and dogs alongside humans—and were presented in a range of formats, making the exhibition visually engaging. One of the highlights was the interactive digital exhibition wall, where visitors could upload photos of their own pets. It added a fun and personal touch, making the entire experience feel memorable.

Definitely worth it for the price paid. Situated inside the stadium, it boasts several levels of memorabilia spread over different sections dedicated to different sports. These including Australian rules football, tennis, cricket etc. Most highlighted is the special cricket section, where you can enter a 3D projected Shane Warne experience, where the late, famous cricketer comes out and gives a talk about his career with the Australian cricket team. There are also lots of interactive areas where you can try out catching, pedalling and other sports. This especially great for children. You are also given a wristband that allows you to interact with many of the displays in the museum. Overall a very enjoyable visit. I would allow for about 1 hour for a visit. The Regent Theatre, originally a 1920s cinema, has been splendidly refurbished and stands as a charming and opulent venue for live concerts and internationally renowned musicals. Despite facing challenges like fire and threats of demolition, the theatre was magnificently restored in 1996 to its former glory. With seating for up to 2,145 patrons over two levels, complete with chandeliers and lavish seating, the theatre offers a luxurious experience.
Beautiful theatre! We watched Beetlejuice and the view was good from the stalls upstairs. The seats were very comfortable with wide arm rests for two people/strangers to share without awkwardly touching each other.

We visited the Regent Theatre to see Beetlejuice the Musical and what a stunning venue! The theatre itself is absolutely beautiful, and the seats were surprisingly roomy and very comfortable. The only downside was the intermission – the lines for the candy bar were ridiculously long, and it felt like they could really benefit from having more staff. Otherwise, a fantastic experience in a truly gorgeous theatre.

Amazing theatre, stunning interior, old world charm. Clean and updated bathrooms. Bars everywhere. The foyer to the theatre is literally outside the theatre entry, which will leave people no where to rest if they arrive early. Queuing up to get your tickets scanned was chaotic as some people had trouble to find their electronic tickets on their phones.

Rooftop Bar has great atmosphere and average service. Mesa Verde has excellent service and good food. The Toff is good for a drink but the security staff at the nightclub across the hall are intimidating.
Mark V — Google review
Great venue, great atmosphere and a great workout walking up the stairs (FYI, there is an elevator too). The layout was fantastic and the drinks were good too

Movie theater
The Capitol, a historic cinema established in 1924, is a multi-level art deco theater located in the heart of Melbourne's CBD. Designed by renowned American architects Walter Burley and Marion Mahoney Griffin, it boasts a unique crystal-like roof design with a bespoke lighting system, making it one of the world's most architecturally-sublime cinemas.
I visited The Capitol in August 2025 for the Melbourne International Film Festival to see the world premiere of my friend’s documentary, Surviving Malka Leifer. This premiere was many years in the making, and it was such a powerful and emotional moment for everyone involved. I’m so grateful that The Capitol continues to support MIFF and give important films like this a space to be celebrated on the big screen. Getting there was super easy. I caught the train to Flinders Street Station and walked a few minutes to the venue, but there are also trams running right along Swanston Street that stop close by. The Capitol is tucked slightly off the main road, but its glowing signage makes it easy to spot. Inside, the foyer was lined with plush carpets, elegant seating, and a classic cinema concession stand offering all the essentials. I grabbed some popcorn before the screening, which was affordable for cinema pricing, and delicious. The staff were genuinely lovely and attentive, and the toilets near the back of the foyer were clean and well maintained throughout the event. When it was time to head in, I found my seat near the back corner, which gave me the perfect view of the entire theatre. The ceiling design was intricate, geometric, and beautifully lit in soft hues that made the whole space glow before the film began. The screen and sound quality were excellent, and even from the back, I could see everything clearly. Watching Surviving Malka Leifer in that space was a really moving experience. The film itself was powerful and deeply thought provoking, shining light on the resilience and courage of three extraordinary women in their pursuit of justice. After the screening, there was a live Q&A session where audience members could submit questions via a QR code on the screen. Hearing directly from the sisters and the production team added so much depth to the experience. The MIFF volunteers also deserve a shout out! They were visible, helpful, and made the whole event run so smoothly. There was another screening right after ours, but the staff still managed everything efficiently and with care. The Capitol was the perfect venue for such a meaningful premiere. It’s a beautiful, historic theatre that balances old world charm with a modern festival atmosphere. I couldn’t think of a better place for this incredible documentary to make its debut.

Great venue, amazing show, but they need to get more signage or employ people to help. Seat numbers were on the backs of seats and caused so many people to sit in the wrong seats. There was no member of staff around at all as we entered to guide us to where we should go, and the venue ran out of most drinks before the show even started. Amazing ceiling and lighting and fantastic acoustics

Great to see this venue has been saved and still being utilised. Small venue but great atmosphere for the opening of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

The Capitol is a true gem in Melbourne’s CBD, blending history, architecture, and entertainment seamlessly. Stepping into this stunning theatre feels like entering a work of art, with its intricate geometric ceiling and vibrant, colored lights creating an almost magical atmosphere. I recently attended a bubble show here with my 2-year-old son, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The setting added a sense of wonder and charm to the performance, keeping both kids and adults captivated. The seating was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and accommodating, making it a stress-free outing with a toddler. The Capitol isn’t just a venue; it’s an experience that stays with you. Whether it’s for a family event or a night out, it’s a must-visit destination in Melbourne. Highly recommended!

The Capitol Theatre is just beautiful! It’s easy to get to, stunning inside and friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely come back & see something here again.

The Capitol Theatre in Swanston Street, Melbourne is a stunning blend of architectural wonder, cultural history, and modern functionality. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by an awe-inspiring geometric plaster ceiling adorned with thousands of lights. The abstract prismatic forms, designed by Marion Mahony Griffin and her husband Walter Burley Griffin in 1924, evoke a luminous, crystalline cavern—an iconic fixture in Australian cinema design. The Chicago‑Gothic Exterior from Swanston Street, the façade appears deceptively simple—a sleek, vertical office tower cloaked in restrained brickwork. Yet inside lies theatrical opulence. 🎬 We were there to see a screening of Chicago, along with a Jazz Orchestra! 🎷🎺 Synchronised with flickering ceiling lights was truly sensational! 😍 What I Loved Visual Drama: The ceiling alone is worth the visit—such an arresting piece of design is rare in modern venues. Layered History: You’re immersed in nearly a century of cinematic culture, from silent-era splendor to contemporary innovation. Seating is intimate and comfortable! 🌟 The Capitol Theatre stands as Melbourne’s most visually stunning and historically significant cinema venue. It’s pure sensory escapism—an architectural jewel with soul, restored to glory and still innovating. Whether you’re a lover of architecture, cinema, or live performance, it delivers a magical experience anchored in the city’s shared past and future. If you’re in Melbourne, catch a show here, you will be amazed by its beauty.

I really like the beauty of the old fashioned theatre. Its still got life and I think people like staff do care for it. You can see it the way it's matained well. It has a sense of tranquility to it. If you like old things and antique charm come here and take a few pictures 📸. Tourist spot 😉

Peter Pan not at all as advertised or expected. The imagery and video advertised was nothing like the actual show. The backlights took away from the very few lights on the dancers. Looking around most people were on their phones. Update the advertising to show a real preview of what to expect. However, Tinkerbell was a stand out

Yarra Riverbank offers a perfect blend of nature and urban life. It is a nice place to visit in the middle of the city for relaxation.
Kavya S — Google review
The Yarra River is a 242 km river that begins in the Yarra Ranges before winding its way through south central Victoria and through Melbourne before emptying into Hobsons Bay. In Melbourne, we enjoyed the riverside areas between St. Kilda and South Wharf Promenade, taking in monuments, numerous bridge crossings, urban space, mall, convention centre, restaurants and bars along the way. Environs are very pleasant and there are plenty of opportunities for people to enjoy leisure time near the river.
