Drottningholm Palace, a well-preserved 17th-century royal residence and a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the official home of the Swedish royal family. The palace boasts opulent interiors, expansive gardens, and the magnificent Baroque-style Drottningholm Palace Theatre. Visitors can explore the ornate Chinese Pavilion pleasure palace on its grounds. History and architecture enthusiasts, garden lovers, and those interested in royal heritage will find this place fascinating.
It definitely takes a while to reach the palace from the city, but using public transport makes it manageable. The outer yard is spacious and has many benches for resting. While the palace can get crowded at times, it is not overwhelming.
Howie — Google review
Beautiful large castle from the 17th century. The castle serves as the private residence of the Swedish royal couple, but parts of the castle are open to the public. The castle is surrounded by a large park, which is also accessible to the public, but at the same time there are large parts of the park where you are not allowed to go.
Jesper R — Google review
- An absolutely massive and well maintained castle + surrounding property. - Even if you don’t buy tickets to visit the inside, the outside area (free to visit btw) is quite the spectacle in itself. - Good place to have a nice little picnic with friends/family too. - Options to take a boat tour or even canoe. Overall highly recommended!
Shameel M — Google review
A great day tour idea. Easy to arrive from central Stockholm by public transport. The palace is really well preserved and it’s a great window to Swedish story. The gardens are beautiful and it’s a great spot to have a picnic, relax on the grass and enjoy the day. The palace and other buildings are paid but all gardens are free.
Karla H — Google review
Coming by boat, we had a guided visit even if there is an APP for it, but the man who read our QRs simply ignored us and didn't give us the blue pin to wear on the clothes or even tell us where to wait. We were left confused as he called the next person in line. We had to go back, ask the nice lady next to him, who solved it... and turned out to be the guide herself! She was very nice and gave a lot of details about the castle and life inside it. It was a beautiful visit, with available chairs, yet we didn't know that there were several shops and not just the one by the entrance (we found them by chance, walking around). In that one, I checked an item, the price didn't coincide, and never looked back. Go there for the guide, for the beauty, for the walk in the gardens. That is what I recommend. PS: Do not freak out because of the insane amount of feathers on the grass wherever you go. The birds are fine.
Carla A — Google review
Beautiful view. Much like a smaller less ornate Versailles. Garden is green and extensive in the summer. Interior is well maintained with good signs explaining the rooms if you don't go with a guided tour.
Ryan D — Google review
We really enjoyed touring Drottningholm Palace. It was a warm day and the gardens are so well maintained as well as beautiful. The palace is spectacular to experience. There are so many rooms and exquisite antiquities everywhere you look. The palace is a permanent residence for the present day royal family. It’s located right on the water and quite the attraction to visit.
Patricia L — Google review
Short but nice visit inside: 40 minutes, treasure hunt for the children included. This activity was pretty pleasant for the whole family! The staff is nice, specially the Lady in the shop! Nice walk in the gardens.

The Royal Palace, also known as Kungliga Slottet, is a magnificent Baroque-style palace in Stockholm, Sweden. It serves as the official residence of the Swedish monarch and houses over 600 rooms along with three museums and a vast library. Visitors can opt for an admission fee that includes a guided tour to explore the grandeur of this symbol of Sweden's monarchy. The palace offers a glimpse into history and culture through its opulent Royal Apartments, Treasury, and Royal Chapel.
The Royal Palace is an absolute must-see in Stockholm. The state rooms are jaw-dropping — every ceiling, wall, and piece of furniture is so ornate and over the top, it’s like walking through a living piece of history. But the real surprise is the basement. It has a completely different vibe — less formal, more immersive — and might actually be the most interesting part of the entire tour. You get a closer look at artifacts, the palace’s foundation, and stories that feel more personal than grand. If you have limited time, don’t skip the lower levels. It’s the perfect contrast to the splendor upstairs and gives a fuller picture of the palace’s history.
Jarred F — Google review
I took a guided tour and it was very good! The history and original decor was beautiful! There is no natural light in many rooms as to protect the artwork, so it was a little difficult to get quality photos and see some of the fine detail. The tour was not too long, but the chapel in a separate section of the main entrance was amazing and free to enter!
Jake W — Google review
We didn’t have time to buy tickets for entry, but there is a small gift shop that you can visit without entering the palace. The items there make for lovely souvenirs, and the prices are very reasonable. The quality of the products is quite good, making it a worthwhile stop even if you can’t go inside the palace itself
Maruf H — Google review
If you’re somewhat interested in the royals or want to spend money, go for it. Otherwise I don’t believe it’s totally worth it. It’s just lots of mirrors and some artwork. Building was beautiful tho and staff seemed nice enough.
R V — Google review
Pretty expensive... But definitely worth the money if you enjoy history. We missed the noon guard change too so somehow try to make it, as it's something that will enhance the experience. It's interesting to visit the museum and be sure to occasionally look up at the ceiling for some beautiful designs. The palace was also pretty good and child-friendly :) gamla stan itself is a good place, tbh
Shrinidhi G — Google review
Very nice to visit. You can see how the Swedish Royal would look like inside. Most of the area is blocked but there are enough for you to go and see. We didn't even have time/energy to visit the armory after 1 hours. Unless you want a guided tour or it is a special holiday the queue, there is no need to buy the ticket as there was no queue for us. Keep the ticket if you want to use the WC. The WC is outside in the into building and it need you to scan the ticket (or pay a few dollar). Stroller parking is a bit far away. The palace does not allow baby stroller inside and since there are a lot of walking and stairs, i would not recommend go there with a baby.
Chi P — Google review
A must-visit in Stockholm! 🇸🇪 The Royal Palace is stunning—both in its architecture and historical richness. The guided tours are informative and give a deep insight into Sweden’s royal heritage. Don’t miss the Changing of the Guard ceremony—it’s a highlight! The treasury and royal apartments are beautifully preserved. Worth every minute, especially if you’re into history and culture.
H&M — Google review
Nice to see the actual items and rooms that the Royal Family have used. The guard changing ceremony was also very nice. It was about 40 minutes long with a lot of live band music from the marching band. Overall great experience at the royal palace

Ulriksdal Palace, a 17th-century royal residence located in Stockholm, Sweden, is a historic gem nestled on the banks of Edsviken. Originally named Jakobsdal and later renamed after Prince Ulrik, it boasts stunning architecture and lush gardens. The nearby Ulriksdal Palace Theatre adds to its allure as one of Europe's few remaining 18th-century court theatres.
Great nature got bird poop on my head almost at the entrance 🤣 it was a long walk we took, over 22 000 steps that day. Was raining on the way back but not soaking wet.
Nammi N — Google review
nice place to spend time with a family. the slott is so beautiful and you can wallk around in the garden and kids enjoy plaing in the garden. There is smalll cafe and you can take your bike to go around the places.
Jayesh J — Google review
Ulriksdal Palace is located on the shores of Lake Edsviken. It has to offer not only a large complex of parks with Carl Milles sculptures or cafes, but we can also visit its rooms. A tour of Ulriksdal Palace gives the visitor an exciting insight into interior design from the 17th to the 20th century. Several of the rooms on display were created for Charles XV by Fredrik W. Sholander. The tour is in Swedish or English. You must buy a ticket in advance for 120 SEK on the website: https://kungligaslotten.actorsmartbook.se/default.aspx?category=12. Visiting the palace takes about 45 minutes. The ticket price also includes a visit to the conservatory. We can spend most of the day in the palace and park complex and it will be a very nice time. I wish you good weather.
Michael N — Google review
The part you can see is pretty small, have not tried the guided walk but not sure if it worth. Orangeriet and garden are my favorites, which are free to visit. There is a cafe as well.
Sabrina K — Google review
I was here today. A fantastic place with very good views and walking spots. The cafeteria was really good and I could choose between different things to eat and drink. There were plenty of places to seat and take a break. A calm environment to forget all stress and keep calm. I took a lot of pictures and enjoyed every minute.

Jena T — Google review
Such a nice palace to walk around. There is a small cafe serving fresh juice and tasty cakes. The cafe has both outdoor and indoor seatings. The tables are in the shade of big trees over looking the big yard. It is perfect for family and a nice date.

Amazing place for a relaxed stroll or picnic by the palace and by the water. It's a huge and beautiful area, and is usually quite empty because it isn't as "popular" as the other palaces.

Haga Palace, nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Stockholm, serves as the official residence for Crown Princess Victoria and her family. This stunning Italian villa-style palace was constructed between 1802 and 1805, originally intended as a summer retreat for the Swedish Royal Family. It holds historical significance as King Carl XVI Gustav's childhood home, where he and his siblings were born.
This place is with very beautiful and peaceful lake and river when the birds fly passing around.

Nice park to stroll around. Nothing amazing either.
Geoffroy L — Google review
Haga Palace is the current home of the Crown Princess Family of Sweden. In April 2009, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt transferred the rights of disposal back to the royal court as a wedding gift for Daniel and Victoria.
Natalia M — Google review
Didn't see the castle but the palace ruins were awesome, there was a ladder to go down into the ruins and all parts were accessible, the ruins were larger than i expected. The nature around the ruins looks really nice. Quite dangerous edges you can fall off so be careful.
Lauri K — Google review
It's my pleasure that I walked there 37 time ,Really I enjoyed there n my nice memories of Hagaparkin.
Sanjeev T — Google review
The butterfly house and shark aquarium was nice. The guide told us about the different fishes in a funny way. He spoked in swedish tho but you can ask him question in english afterwards if you want. The entrance is a little bit expensive (165 SEK for adults) but it's worth it. The park itself is really big, but nothing special. Only a lake and a lot of grass and trees. When you park look out for the signs that tells you how to park if you don't want to pay a fine of 500 SEK. Have fun! :D
N W — Google review
Beautiful historical venue. Go see! The whole Park of Haga is a Gem; U could spend the entire day there, just bring a decent picknick :-)
Thomas R — Google review
Most of Haga is off bounds due to the royal family's garden. There isn't that much to do here, though it is a really fun echo chamber. Suitable for a picnic, though, you can't actually eat it inside of the thing. I definately recommend you go see Hagaparken, but don't go there just for this thing.

Specialty Museums
The Vasa Museum in Stockholm is a must-visit attraction, housing the incredibly well-preserved Vasa ship, which tragically sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and was salvaged centuries later. This popular museum offers an immersive journey through Sweden's maritime history, showcasing the meticulously restored vessel and providing insights into its ill-fated expedition. It appeals to history enthusiasts, maritime history buffs, and families seeking educational experiences.
Visiting the Vasa Museum was, without question, one of the absolute highlights of our time in Stockholm. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the breathtaking sight of the nearly fully intact 17th-century warship that gives the museum its name. Photos honestly don’t do it justice — the size, craftsmanship, and sheer presence of the Vasa are overwhelming in the best way. It’s one of the most incredible old-world ships I’ve ever seen, both in scale and in the intricacy of the carvings and details that have been so remarkably preserved. What really adds to the experience is the storytelling. There’s an almost cinematic quality to learning that the ship — after all the effort and grandeur that went into building it — sank on its maiden voyage just minutes after setting sail. That “spoiler” moment doesn’t diminish the tour; if anything, it makes the rest of the exhibits even more compelling. The museum does a fantastic job of unpacking the engineering flaws, the historical context, and the recovery efforts in ways that keep both casual visitors and history buffs hooked. One of the best surprises was the basement level. Unlike the ornate upper floors, it has a more relaxed, less crowded feel, with fascinating displays about the preservation process and everyday life on the ship. If you visit Stockholm, this is a non-negotiable must-see. Plan to give yourself at least two hours to really take it all in.
Jarred F — Google review
The Vasa Museum is an incredible place to learn about the famous Vasa ship. Before exploring the exhibits, there is a video introduction available in multiple languages that explains the entire Vasa ship story. This is a must-watch—it really helps you understand the historical context and the fascinating circumstances around the ship’s construction and sinking. The museum itself is well-organized, and the displays provide plenty of insight into 17th-century naval life. A highly recommended visit for anyone interested in history or maritime stories!
Maruf H — Google review
Must see if you find yourself in Stockholm. Great showcase of the 300 year old Royal Vasa ship. Good for children and adults. I would say at least 2 hours, maybe more, to see it all. Very impressive. The details preserved under water is amazing.
Jonas P — Google review
Plan to spend at least two hours here. Preferably more. Unique, one of a kind experience. Especially for history lovers, like me. Tickets could be purchased at the entrance with minimal waiting time (1-5 minutes). They keep temperature low inside to preserve wooden structures of the ship. So, bring something warm with you to wear as an extra layer.
Ed B — Google review
A fascinating half day, with all the different multimedia and explanatory fixed displays to keep everyone happy. The story of the ship is almost as impressive as the ship and the ship is immensely impressive. Well worth a visit for the wreck alone, but with the history and the preservation and restoration work an absolute must for the Stockholm visitor
Richard H — Google review
The vasa museum is well worth the entrance fee , get here early it can get busy. The vasa was a ship that sunk on its maiden voyage and was pulled from the mud in the 1960s almost fully in tact. The 7 floors give a full insight into the ship, the background to its building, sinking and raising. It has about 7 floors and you can see the amazing ship from a multiple angles. There are lifts to all the floors, a great resturaunt and shop. If I could give this place a 100 stars it wouldn't be enough
Kevin M — Google review
If there is one museum you visit in Stockholm make it this one! There is so much to see, read and interact with for young and old - a 2+ hour visit will quickly fly by. An informative documentary runs every 20 mins in multiple languages which provides a good introduction to the Vasa Warship story. Guided tours provide even more information. Plenty to do for kids, with multiple levels to view the warship that are all accessible via elevators.
Andrew N — Google review
Enjoyed a great guided tour from Annika and then the film around the restoration after 1961. What a crazy ship built so high and narrow. Would recommend a visit. Needs around 1.5 to 2 hours to appreciate the ships beauty!

Storkyrkan, also known as the Great Church, is a historic Brick Gothic cathedral in Stockholm. It houses artifacts and features an iconic statue of St. George. The cathedral is the oldest church in Stockholm, dating back to 1279 and has undergone expansions over the centuries, resulting in its current late-Gothic character. Located near the Royal castle, it is a popular stop for sightseeing tours such as 'Under the Bridges of Stockholm,' which departs from Stromkajen.
Having seen the statue of George and the Dragon in stone on the street during a city tour, seeing the original in wood was a must see, it does not disappoint. The inside is full of fantastic carvings including some Lutheran angels (you’ll have to do the audio tour or google this).
Andy B — Google review
Beautiful church, chock-a-block with art from across the centuries, floor memorials worn beyond reading, baroque decor, and just general beauty. Interesting, compared to churches in the UK and to the south, the aesthetic impact of (visible) brick construction. Accessible via the Go City card. Worth picking up the little brochure (multiple languages) as a guide. Definitely worth the visit.

Storkyrkan, also known as Stockholm Cathedral, is one of the most impressive historic landmarks in the heart of Gamla Stan. Blending Gothic and Baroque architecture, the cathedral offers a truly captivating atmosphere both historically and artistically. As you step inside, you’re greeted by soaring ceilings, beautiful wooden details, and magnificent pillars. One of its most famous highlights is the statue of Saint George and the Dragon, which showcases incredible craftsmanship and intricate details. The cathedral’s stained-glass windows fill the interior with soft, colorful light, creating a serene and peaceful ambiance. Dating back to the 13th century, Storkyrkan has hosted numerous important events over the centuries, including royal weddings and religious ceremonies. For anyone interested in Swedish royal history, it offers fascinating insights. A visit to Gamla Stan wouldn’t be complete without stopping here. The entrance fee is reasonable, photography is allowed inside, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Whether you’re a lover of history, architecture, or art, Storkyrkan is one of the best places to experience the soul of Stockholm. Highly recommended.

Beautiful Cathederal in the heart of Gamla Stan. It has unusual pink colour, but once inside it peaceful, decorative. There is usual place light a candle and they also have a place to sit quietly and reflect. It well worth this visit

The cathedral close to the Royal palace and behind the Nobel museum. Being the church of royal family and the cathedral of church of Sweden, it is quite decorated and mostly painted on golden. The church has many attractions including the state of St George. The alter is made of silver and there are a few wonderful paintings

Dating back to 13th century, it functions as a cathedral and a parish church. While looking simple on the outside, it is magnificent inside. Perhaps the best site in old town stockholm.
Luc S — Google review
I visited this beautiful church early in the morning. I booked tickets in advance and only options for that day for 9AM, but there were few people with me, so I do not know whether it gets crowded afterwards or no. The church itself is beautiful, take the brochure to know the history of the things you'll see at the church.

I really enjoyed this tour! It was about 50 minutes guided by one of the staff and cost only 100 kr. The wagons and cars were beautiful and it was lovely to see the horses that we were allowed to pat. Wear warm clothes!

Great 1 hour tour of cars, carriages, and horses, with the two little ponies belonging to two little Princesses. Our guide was lovely.

Went to a lovely little market, last Sunday, filled with booths, that was run by students, selling wares from their own businesses, The park was lit for the holiday season and people were enjoying themselves at the ice-skating rink, that was playing music, great event 🌲

Nice place nice tour not too long not too short with plenty to see for horsey lovers!
Jason W — Google review
For all who are interested in horses and carriages and the swedish kingdom. Very interesting stories about the old carriages. And the royal (there are only 13 of then) can even be petted.
Jan — Google review
Interesting place to visit especially if you are interested in horses. The guide had worked there very long time and she was nice. What is negative that the horses have to stay in their boxes most of the day and the paddocks are really small and offer no activity.
Katja I — Google review
Nice stable and beautiful horses . There is also a cozy coffee shop
Mimi N — Google review
She said: "lovely" with a bright smile on her face! Lovely horses, great carriages and old cars, impressive stables, well worth a visit on Royal Stable Day including an entertaining and informative guided tour in English by a really nice member of staff. A small café and shop are also part of the site. Also a very quiet place directly in the middle of the city centre... LOVELY!

Church
Historical landmark
Riddarholmen Church, situated on the small island of Riddarholmen near Gamla Stan in Stockholm, is a historic site with sections dating back to the 13th century. It serves as a burial place for over 300 years of Swedish rulers and their consorts, including notable figures like Gustav II Adolf and Magnus Ladulas. The church features Gothic architecture from its initial construction period, with later additions in Renaissance and Baroque styles.
The precious cradle of Sweden and the Swedish monarchy. A jewel to behold especially inside. Being able to walk on the same stone slabs as many monarchs throughout centuries will definitely have an effect on those who cherish European multi secular history.
Stanislas T — Google review
The surrounding view is more artistic. I don't think it's necessary to go into this church because it looks nice and beautiful enough even if you don't go in there.
웅냥냥 — Google review
So this is the oldest existing building in Stockholm. So it seems like a good place to start your Stockholm adventures. It’s a little different from the average cathedral or church, since it’s really focused on the Royals. But it is a great place to learn about the heritage of the different royal families in Sweden. Lots of crypts to be found here.
Adam S — Google review
In terms of European church architecture, this is not a spectacular cathedral. However, my son and I enjoyed it a lot by playing a few games. First, there are a ton of signs that show different notable people like former presidents including Nelson Mandela. If you are a native English speaker it is not always clear what nations are being referred to (Iceland stumped me regarding how it was referred to for example) so we had fun with that. Then we also played try to find the oldest tombstone. For us it was 1452. We also googled how some of the princes died 😢 one died in 1918 from the flu that swept the world. Another died at a young age because he had measles and was incorrectly prescribed cold baths, which gave him pneumonia 😢 it’s also a really nice walk from the royal palace to the church. I bought both in a combined ticket
Heather P — Google review
All these churches have such huge history behind them and beautiful architecture to look at. Always a must discover.
Sacha P — Google review
I booked a combined ticket for Kungliga Slottet and this place, both worth to see and if you book online like me, you won't have have to wait in queue (There wasn't a long queue)
Alptuğ Y — Google review
One of the oldest and best preserved buildings in Stockholm. It is exquisite. It is included on the Royal Palace ticket. The gentleman inside the church was very approachable and had interesting information about the church and the graves inside the building. it is a stunning piece of architecture and important historically as it holds many of the monarch of Sweden. Well worth the visit.

It looks nice from the outside so you can come for a look, but no point going inside. It looks very unimpressive and somehow still has admission price (65kr).

Nestled within the picturesque grounds of Drottningholm Palace, The Chinese Pavilion is a stunning 18th-century structure that showcases an enchanting blend of authentic Chinese artistry and Swedish interpretations. Originally constructed as a surprise for the queen's birthday, this charming pavilion serves as a delightful summer retreat. Visitors can explore its Rococo interior while enjoying guided tours that reveal fascinating stories about each room through convenient QR codes.
A worthwhile visit while at Drottningholm. The walk from the main palace through the gardens is tranquil and beautiful. The Chinese Pavilion itself is comparatively small but full of interesting antiquities, tapestries and variously coloured rooms. It's definitely worth the walk.
R S — Google review
The Chinese Pavilion (Kina slott) is an extraordinary building in the Drottningholm Palace complex, being one of the most beautiful examples of European Rococo in Chinese style. Built in the 18th century as a gift for Queen Louisa Ulrika, the pavilion delights with its colorful facade, characteristic roofs, and rich decorations. The interiors of the pavilion are equally impressive, with furniture, porcelain, and other oriental artifacts that transport visitors to the distant world of Chinese culture. The Chinese Pavilion is not only an architectural masterpiece but also an important element of Sweden's cultural heritage, being part of the Drottningholm Palace complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a popular tourist attraction that draws visitors from all over the world, offering them an unforgettable experience and insight into the 18th-century fascination with the Orient.

Nice place. The Chinese Pavilion at Drottningholm Gardens is a beautiful place, there are big gardens around it..a must visit. Don't miss the coffee shop for some hot cold coffee and snacks..
MVG R — Google review
Beautiful but not worth the entrance (too expensive for too little). Still a place I like to stop by when I'm in the park.
Vilma L — Google review
The exterior of the Chinese Pavilion didn’t look particularly Chinese to me. The dragons on the roof resembled the Loch Ness monster more than traditional Chinese dragons. Unfortunately, I couldn't visit the interior as it wasn't open on the day of my visit. Still, it was quite an interesting sight.
Eric L — Google review
If visiting the Palace, this is also worth the walk through the grounds to visit. The rooms are quite dark to preserve the furnishings and decorative art. An easy audio guide is available which you just hold against an electronic pad in each room in order to hear the commentary.
Miles M — Google review
Interesting structure, definitely stands out thanks to the colour scheme, beautiful stone built cafe near it

This is a cute little palace in the middle of beautiful garden. We basically just wandered in while walking around Kungliga djurgården not expecting much. The guided tour was about to start so we decided to join in. Me and my wife were the only people there for english tour, so we got a private guided tour. We learned a lot about Swedish royal history and some very interesting tidbits about the monarchy. The palace itself is beautiful and since it's not at all crowded, it was a refreshing experience compared to bigger grander palaces.
Bhavishya G — Google review
The guided visit of the palace is completely worth it. We had Emil as a guide and he tells the story of the palace and royal family so well and in an engaging way. The palace is also very beautiful and well maintained.

I cannot believe Rosendals Slott has so few Google reviews! It's a lovely, small palace set by the water amongst lots of greenery. The day I visited, the palace opened at noon, and I was the first and only tourist. All the tour guides seemed friendly, but I think I had good fortune because I got Jonas as my tour guide. What a fount of information about this palace in particular and Swedish history and culture in general! I highly recommend anyone who comes to Stockholm to visit Rosendals Slott.
