Perched on a hilltop with commanding views of the city and the Alps, Fortress Hohensalzburg is an impressive 11th-century complex that draws in over 1.4 million visitors annually. To avoid the crowds, it's best to arrive early and take a glass funicular or embark on a steep 20-minute walk up Festungsgasse in the Old Town to reach this iconic landmark.
A piece of medieval history. Impressive layout on top of a hill with several intact rooms you can visit if you have tickets. The fortress grounds are free to roam. There’s an outdoor cafe for drinks and snacks with beautiful views. There’s a funicular going up if you want to omit the stairs.
Gabi G — Google review
Great view but you need to pay extra to go to the tower (which we didn’t). Still absolutely worth visiting while you’re in Salzburg. You can skip the line if you buy or get tickets upfront (we got them from our hotel).
Stevo T — Google review
Amazing castle and exhibition. Everything is modern, interactive and multisensory. Truly a nice example of the basic of how exhibitions today should look like. Plus the ticket's price is also very okay. 100% recommend buying tickets in advance though, there was a super long queue when buying on the spot.
Kristýna V — Google review
Bought the entrance and funicular train ticket and it's a enjoyable trip up the hill to the castle. Plenty of stuff to see in the fortress and also great view of Salzburg city from the top of the castle. Really beautiful scenery and we don't want to leave but had to rush to find the train station as we need to catch the 12pm Hallstatt tour.
Ai C — Google review
This is a fascinating site. There are many things to see in this historic place. Be prepared for some step climbing to get the very best views. We enjoyed learning all the history about the Fortress. There are rooms full of interesting items dating from ancient times to modern life.
Linda B — Google review
The castle is just beautiful on the outside and inside, very easy to get on the funicular and amazing views. Also the museums and exhibitions there are worth it to see! It's a must-do for everyone who visits Salzburg.
GUSTAVO ( — Google review
The outdoors is open for hours after indoor exhibits close in summer. This is the last place on my list for the day. My plan was to visit all the indoor exhibits before closing then enjoy the outdoors hopefully in the cooler hours. It's big and interesting with multiple buildings. High up on the hill, with great views of the city and surrounding areas. One would think this is a great location to defend the city. Ironically, it's not been battle tested after it was built in the 11th century. With the city pass, went up with the cable car and walked down. It would be a good climb to hike up. On a hot summer day, no thanks.
S W — Google review
There weren’t many people. There are places on the grounds where you can buy food and drinks, and the view of the city is excellent. The funicular is included in the online ticket price (not sure about the offline one — I think the sign at the entrance mentioned only online tickets). Overall, it’s a great spot to drop by for an hour or two and take a walk.

Mirabell Palace, a 17th-century architectural gem located in Salzburg, is renowned for its ornamental gardens and opulent interior. The palace was featured in the iconic film 'The Sound of Music,' with its gardens serving as the backdrop for memorable scenes. Built by Archbishop Wolf Dietrich in 1606 and later redesigned in Baroque style, the palace boasts exquisite interior decorations including stucco and wall paintings.
Mirabell Palace is absolutely stunning and a must-see in Salzburg. The palace itself is elegant, but the real highlight is the Mirabell Gardens — beautifully maintained with colorful flower beds, sculptures, and fountains that make it feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. The view looking through the gardens towards the fortress is breathtaking and perfect for photos. It’s free to enter the gardens, and they’re easy to walk through, so it’s a great stop even if you’re short on time. If you visit in spring or summer, the flowers are in full bloom and the atmosphere is magical. Music lovers will also appreciate that some of the “Sound of Music” scenes were filmed here. Highly recommend visiting in the morning before the crowds arrive — it’s peaceful, romantic, and unforgettable.
Andrew H — Google review
The gardens are magnificent. Symmetry and colors are combined in beautiful compositions. Access to the gardens is free. The palace itself is also free, but there is nothing to see. Access is only to the staircase, which is magnificent, but it is disappointing that there is no access to the halls. We only managed to peek into one.
Sonya M — Google review
It's a really beautiful and popular place in Salzburg that everyone have to see. The gardens are stunning and you can enjoy sitting around and taking photos. There are also classical music concerts there, which are definitely a must-see if you love this genre!
Gergana T — Google review
Even in late October, without all the flowers, the gardens are well kept and beautiful. I’m a huge fan of the dwarf garden! Very fun, though not PC (bc history is not PC) statues in there! Worth a walk through and FREE. The only part of the palace that was accessible was the marble staircase area—I believe it had a real name. Pretty, but the gardens are better!
Olivia H — Google review
Mirabell Palace in Salzburg is straight out of a fairytale ✨. The gardens are full of colorful flowers, fountains, and little hidden corners that feel so peaceful. You can wander around, take in the mountain views, and feel like you’re in a scene from The Sound of Music. It’s charming, romantic, and a must-see if you’re in Salzburg 💐🏰
Sara D — Google review
Beautiful palace with stunning gardens. Easy to walk around and free to enter. The views with the flowers, statues, and Salzburg backdrop are picture-perfect. Peaceful spot to relax, take photos, or just enjoy the scenery. Great for a short, calming visit.
Cyw — Google review
Nice walk around the gardens with the memorable views of the Sound of Music. There were three weddings going on at the same time. Seems the palace was closed for visitors today. Loaded with tourists parties there for the same reason as us no doubt.
Steve B — Google review
Stunning, the actual location for the lake view of the sound of music (they made replicas of the horses 50m away and put them at the lake for that entrance, then removed them after filming). Where the boat scene was filmed where they all fall out. Staff were incredibly helpful, we arrived 6 hours before check in(!) and they made us feel welcome. Lovely bar and seating area downstairs. We bought the wrong adapters and they have loads you can check out for free and return. Free bus pass for the city for our visit also, very useful!

Mozart's Birthplace, also known as Mozarts Geburtshaus, is a significant historical site in Salzburg. The yellow townhouse was where Wolfgang Mozart, one of the most influential composers in history, was born and lived for 17 years. Today, it operates as a house museum offering tours that provide insights into Mozart's early life. Visitors can explore three floors filled with personal belongings, musical instruments, family portraits, and other important items related to Mozart.
Mozart’s Birthplace Museum is a must-visit in the heart of Salzburg. With the Salzburg Card, entry is free and quick, making it very convenient. The museum offers wonderful insights into Mozart’s life, his family, and his works, with many fascinating details on display. A free app with an audio guide is available, which makes the visit even more engaging and informative. One of the highlights is a special room where instruments are built into the floor—when you walk across it, music begins to play. If you’re visiting with others, it creates a truly delightful and interactive experience. Overall, a well-curated museum that brings Mozart’s story to life in the city where it all began.
Elnur Q — Google review
A must-see in Salzburg. It was fascinating to visit the birthplace of the great musician. The museum houses many of the musician's personal belongings, his musical instruments, and much more. Be sure to use the Mozart Museums Salzburg App as your guide.
Aliaksei A — Google review
Great museum and tribute to Mozart. Informative displays with historical significance. I really like that the museum has a QR code you can scan and have a self guided tour simply with your own phone. We were there on a Sunday and it was not over crowded. They have a few public restrooms also available. The gift shop is very nice and inviting. I highly recommend it.
Debbie M — Google review
The museum collection is quite simple, and tickets can be purchased in advance on the website. When we asked the ticket counter staff about an audio guide, the lady said there wasn’t one — but upon entering, we discovered there is actually a free app to download. The staff didn’t seem very professional, and although the museum mentions having one of the largest collections from the Mozart Association, to be honest, the value for money felt quite low. Also, the weather was very hot, and it felt like a sauna inside the museum.
Penny N — Google review
Located in the city center of Salzburg. The place is easy to locate and its also near to the bus and tram stops. The building is quiet different because of its yellow painting.
Cheryll C — Google review
Located on Getreidegasse in Salzburg’s Old Town, Mozart’s Birthplace is a fascinating stop for anyone interested in classical music and history. The house where Mozart was born in 1756 has been converted into a well-curated museum displaying his original instruments, family portraits, and letters, giving a personal insight into his early years. The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Ticket prices are €15 for adults, €12 for students under 27, seniors, and groups, €5 for youth (15–18 years), €4.50 for children (6–14 years), and €30 for families. Entry is free for children under six, people with disabilities, and Salzburg Card holders. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds, especially during summer. It’s a short yet enriching experience that captures the essence of Mozart’s genius and Salzburg’s musical heritage.
TheMindisCurious — Google review
We were very excited to visit the home place of Mozart whilst staying in Salzburg as I am a big fan, however I have to say we were not very impressed for few reasons.. 1 Overcrowded, feels like you can't enjoy the place without having 10/15 Japanese on your shoulder coughing and sneezing you in the face.. 2 The interactive section was poorly presented, they should modernize it a bit.. 3 Too expensive for what they offer. Happy to have done it, but wouldn't return.
Nick C — Google review
Historic area in the heart of Salzburg with charming streets, shops, and cafés. Mozart’s Birthplace is a highlight, offering interesting exhibits about his early life. A great spot to stroll, enjoy the architecture, and soak in the city’s musical heritage

Schloss Hellbrunn is a Renaissance villa with beautifully landscaped gardens, famous for its trick water fountains and folklore museum. Built by Markus Sittikus von Hohenems in the early 17th century, this baroque palace was designed as a day residence without bedrooms. The estate is known for its 'Watergames,' where unsuspecting guests are squirted with water from hidden fountains.
Beautiful place to visit, main attraction is the trick fountains that you can only visit in groups every 30 min. The smaller interior can be visited any time and is not timed. Be mindful that you will most likely get wet or surprise your friends and keep it secret. I recommend being there when they open so you guarantee to be the 1st or 2nd group
Finite T — Google review
Had a great time visiting this gorgeous museusm / castle / park! Two things were particularly great: the Trick Fountains and the Children Playground as we were visiting with our 3yo toddler. We will definitely be back for the playground during our stay in Salzburg !
Hugo P — Google review
The trick fountains was an amazing experience. We didn’t expect to have spent so much time there but we are glad to have had. Lots to see. The palace was very interesting as well.
Helen L — Google review
We had a wonderful day here, the number 25 bus takes about half an hour from central Salzberg an drops you right by the entrance. Hellbrunne consists of a stunning palace, gardens and estate in the mannerist style. The surprise fountain garden is great fun but do expect to get a bit wet. The folk museum, palace and fountain garden are part of a 15 euro ticket which is good value. The water parterre gardens, stone theatre cut out of the rock, the wonderful views over the city and mountains, arboretum and playground are all free. There is a good cafe too.
Tim S — Google review
Must see attraction reflecting Austrian culture and finesse’ each sculpture, Fountain and Artwork is exemplary and enjoyable for a connoisseur. Reaching there is easy too. Just take bus 25 from HH central bus station. Have a great day when u visit… Best season between April to September.
S K — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit to Hellbrunn Palace. The palace itself is beautiful, but the best part for me was the trick fountains—hidden jets that surprise you when you least expect it—and the water-powered moving sculptures that come alive as you walk by. It was playful and refreshing, and made the whole place feel magical
Dimitri B — Google review
The palace was built early 17th century in the early baroque style as a pleasure palace for day use in summer only and therefore had no bedrooms. It was commissioned by Prince-Bishop Markus Sittikus von Hohenems. You start your visit with a tour of the trick garden with all sorts of hidden waterfountains that the Bishop liked to use on his guests by surprise. This is a timeslot entry so after you get your ticket go there first. At the start you can have your photo taken which you can buy at the end of this tour. At the start you also get a language specific audio guide. You exit this part in the beautiful garden and can visit a museum inside the palace with interesting information about the Bishop
Seimen B — Google review
Palace is exceptional and the trick fountains are wonderful. We loved the gardens and learning the history of the Palace. Biggest surprise was seeing a squirrel as we headed up the steep path to the museum and view of the mountain.

Kapuzinerberg is a picturesque hill in Salzburg offering stunning city views and featuring a Capucines cloister dating back to the 1600s. Visitors can enjoy a mix of nature and culture by hiking to Franziskischlossel, indulging in local cuisine, exploring churches and museums, and attending concerts. The area is also described as gay-friendly, with opportunities for biking adventures and positive feedback from the LGBT community.
Very nice walk trail with some beautiful views on the way. Plenty of stairs to climb, few benches here and there along the way
Rowin — Google review
Great forest not far from the city center. Easy climb to the top following the Stephan Zweig weg. Can also see the house where Stephan Zweig lived and great views of the Fortress along the way.

Steep walk in the wooded area above the city. Restaurant at the top was closed a vending machine is available for drinks. Nice views of the city and fortress.
D. R — Google review
Beautiful scenery especially in winter! I went there on the 10th of January this year. The hike was a quite steep, so make sure you're in good stamina and wear proper shoes.
Sukma W — Google review
Nice but steep walk up the hill to a beautiful viewpoint. Make sure to finish the walk at least up until the “Obere Stadtaussicht”, as that’s the only view point that’s worth it in my opinion (in comparison to the other intermediary viewpoints on the way which are far less pretty).
Charlotte N — Google review
In December 2019, my footsteps guided me to the serene embrace of the Kapuzinerberg, nestled in the heart of the city where history whispered through the cobblestone streets and the gentle breath of the past stirred the air. It was here, amidst the quietude of nature's watch, that the Franziskischlössl stood, a beacon of history perched upon the hill, offering solace and a panoramic vista that stretches the imagination to the horizons of time. The Kapuzinerberg, named for the Kapuziner monastery that nestles upon its slopes, is a testament to the enduring spirit of contemplation and retreat. The etymology of "Kapuziner," deriving from the cappuccino-colored robes of the Capuchin monks, speaks to a heritage of simplicity and introspection. This hill, with its verdant paths and hidden stories, served as a canvas upon which the narrative of Salzburg and its guardians was etched. As I ventured along the well-trodden paths that lead to the Franziskischlössl, each step was a journey through time. The fortress, once a strategic bulwark, now stands as a symbol of peace, its walls echoing tales of epochs past. The ascent, though demanding, unfolded as a rewarding odyssey, revealing at its zenith not just the architectural marvel of the Franziskischlössl, but also a breathtaking view that marries the beauty of nature with the craftsmanship of human history. This experience, deserving of an 85-point accolade, was not merely a walk but a pilgrimage. It was a journey that bridged the physical and the metaphysical, offering a moment of reflection on the transient nature of existence against the backdrop of timeless beauty. The route to the Kapuzinerberg and the Franziskischlössl, steeped in history and shrouded in the tranquility of the natural world, was a path that invited not just the feet but the soul to wander.
Pamir Ç — Google review
A very steep walk to the top, but enjoyable. Nice forest walk to the top , but is challenging. Requires a reasonable level of fitness and well being. The stair entrance is near Linzer Gasse Platz. Don’t let the Uber drop you off anywhere else. Best to just walk there.

Nestled in the picturesque Aigen district, Gasthof Schloss Aigen is a charming castle that dates back to 1402. This delightful establishment boasts a beautiful church and expansive park-like grounds, creating an enchanting atmosphere for visitors. The on-site restaurant serves up traditional Austrian cuisine with a modern twist, highlighting daily specials crafted from locally sourced organic beef. One of the must-try dishes is their expertly prepared boiled beef, which showcases the region's culinary heritage.
Really enjoyed the dinning here with friendly services. Good vibe and wonderful traditional foods.

The food is good but a bit pricey. I have encountered at the end an unpleasant surprise. In the bill they put for one of the Rindfilet a higher price than the one in the menu. When I asked about the lady said that she didnt brought us that one but another dish with an higher price. I asked why and she gave an explanation that didnt sound to me convincing. ‘O, I asked you if you wanted medium or well done and you said ‘well done’ and that’s the one!! I didnt want to continue further the argument, but I told her that she should have clarified that in advance. She said just ‘sorry’ in a kund of rude way. I dont think she was really sorry and I think she did this rather on purpose than by mistake. It is a shame because the experience in general it was good but it let a bitter feeling at the end

Wonderful Sunday Lunch. Highly recommend the beef and onions. Absolutely delicious - real comfort food. We saw a lot of other dishes and they all looked really good. We also shared the desert Kaiserschmarrm which was the best we have had in Salzburg. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and relaxing. I would highly recommend this gorgeous restaurant 😍

The Panorama Museum, situated near Mozart Square, features a remarkable 360-degree painting of Salzburg from the early 19th century. Created by Johann Michael Sattler, this circular artwork offers a glimpse into the city's appearance during Mozart's era. Visitors can use telescopes to observe intricate details of the historical scenery and architecture depicted in the painting. Additionally, the museum showcases supporting exhibits leading up to the main attraction, providing an engaging experience for guests.
Small but beautiful local history museum that showcases alongside the brilliant panorama several smaller pictures of Salzburg in the 19th and early 20th century with a great storyline explaining in detail what is on display. It's good for a solid half hour and enjoyable even more because it's not crowded, at the time of my visit I was all alone
Klaus W — Google review
Free with Salzburg pass, it is worth a quick look if you have the time. The main feature is the actual panorama which does have a lot of details. Was interesting to compare with the view from the castle to see what had changed. The paintings displayed were interesting because of the differences in style as much as what they displayed.
Joseph K — Google review
A short visit that I only decided to do because of the heat outside turned out very well. Entrance for jugend was 2euros and for this you get some nice background information on how Salzburg looked through the years. After that you're treated to a stunning panorama painting of the whole city seen from the fortress hohensalzburg. I very much giving this place a short look especially if you happen to have the Salzburg card or are a student.
Floris H — Google review
Beautiful museum that discusses the history of bathing and swimming pools in Europe, but the coolest exhibit is that of Hubert Sattler, who created Cosmoramas around the world and also painted a Panorama of Salzburg which is truly a must-see! It is covered by the Salzburg Card, which is another plus!
James — Google review
We found it very interesting. In particular, the photos by Sattler were amazing. He really painted so many diverse locations. The colors and light were very expressive.
Dorothy F — Google review
If you like Panorama painting this is a wonderful place to visit. In the middle there is a 360 degree view of old Salzburg in great detail.
Mart W — Google review
It's just out of this world! One of the most memorable experiences when visiting Salzburg. Hubert Sattler and his family and travels, what a fascinating personality, the paintings left me breathless.
Tzveeble — Google review
Not really a must see when visiting Salzburg. It's a small place with a 360° painting of Salzburg around the year 1900. But don't expect it to be much more. If I wouldn't have had the Salzburg card which grants you free entry to the museum, I would have skipped it. Modern art museum
Museum der Moderne Salzburg, located in the New Residential Palace (Neue Residenz), is a must-visit for art and cultural history enthusiasts. The museum showcases modern Austrian artists' graphics and photographs within its Baroque-style architecture. With 3,000 square meters of renovated space, visitors can immerse themselves in multimedia-enhanced exhibitions that range from Bronze Age artifacts to rare 16th-century musical instruments.
Built to the side of the cliff, the entrance is quite interesting to go into the mountain. Though not the biggest art museum, the scale is not too bad and adequate to see variety of exhibits. Well curated shows.

This review is only about the one downtown, also known as the Rupertinum. They have an interesting exhibition of Daguerreotypes, showing many old pictures of people and of Salzburg as it was long ago. What struck me most, though, was the Hundertwasser decoration on the facade of the building. An unexpected and daring combination with the baroque building.

⛔️ CAUTION TO ALL TOURISTS! Do not take the elevator down from the museum as it 3.2 euros per pax!!! The counter ticket lady with specs (seen in this pic) was 100% racist and superrr arrogant. She had such an attitude chiding us about their "rules" on taking the elevator. Very weird btw, the elevator button is bigger than their prices and in no way self explanatory. They could better 1) Caution about the price to take the lift down 2) Not have such a despicable attitude towards paying patrons Absolutely RUINED our day at salzburg. Such a shame she is someone customer facing.

The staff is really helpful! There are two modern museums and they are not far away from each other, but the new one is on the top of the mountain so it will take people at least 10 mins to walk there. The museums are not very big, but the themes are very nice and meaningful!

I absolutely loved the Gunda Gruber exhib that I went to see here. 1 museum, 2 locations, different exhibs at both, both worth visiting and close to each other. The other location is only 5 mins walk and a lift. You can hike up if you're feeling very energetic. Your ticket works for both and I think you can use it up to a week (Double check this at the desk). So you don't have to over-do it. The work was excellent and the museum isn't massive, so you can get a nice, bite-sized chuck of well displayed, good quality modern art in the beautiful city of Salzburg. Well worth a visit!
Katy M — Google review
We had a couple of hours before our train to Munich and went in this museum. It is nice and has some stuff from Salzburg s 19 th century on wards. I am not sure it was worth the €14 ticket though.

Fantastic unmissable modern art gallery in Stuttgart. It's split into 2 parts - one in the city centre and one newer and larger part perched on top of a cliff with magnificent views over the city. The clifftop part is accessed by a pedestrian lift. The entrance cost and the lift cost is included in the Salzburg card. The photos show both items from the permanent collection as well as from the social exhibitions on in December 2019.

I love art, but art should inspire to something more than making me think 'the emperor has a complete new wardrobe'. It is a sin that taxpayers work to finance this silliness. But the view is good.

Schloss Anif is a stunning castle with a beautiful park surrounding it. It was featured in the 1966 movie "The Sound of Music." While some visitors may not be allowed to enter the private castle, this adds to its allure and exclusivity. The castle's owner has maintained its privacy well, making it an attractive and picturesque destination for those who appreciate its historical and cinematic significance.
Schloss Anif is privately owned and not open to the public for visits. The surrounding perimetre is totally hidden by trees/shrubbery so its almost impossible to get a glimpse of this hidden gem. My Mum who now resides in Austria found out about the "Open Day" by enquiring with the local church in Anif. Twice a year, once in summer and once in winter, the gates are open and you are permitted with the church as part of their Corpus Christi service celebrations allowed to join them and enter the castle gates to view this stunning castle on the moat and attend the service. This year on the 19-06-25, we were fortunate enough to be able to join the procession and enter the private gates that are usually locked to the general public. Aside from being from the UK, this is very special for Austrians alike who also get to be a part of a special day and view this stunning castle for a short period of time. The castle is beautiful. Very much like a fairy tale movie. We followed the procession, stopping to take pictures along the way and joined everyone in the castle's courtyard for the Corpus Christi service which is fully in German. Afterwards, you follow the loop round back to the gate but there was ample time to take in the scenery and take many pictures before being ushered out. As part of the Corpus Christi celebrations, it only permits you entrance into the grounds and courtyard of the castle for the service, not the castle itself. A magical experience. It was really worth getting up early for. A hidden gem on the outskirts of Salzburg city. *NOTE* - On day of event - there are no toilets/refreshments provided so you have to be prepared if you are lucky enough to attend a service to join the procession to enter the castle gates to see Schloss Anif and attend the Corpus Christi service. You may not wander off of your own accord/no private tours/no visits to interior of the castle.

The selection at the stalls (run by the Lions Club) was limited. They could have offered a lot more, because apart from Leberkäs, Frankfurter and Debreziner there was nothing. The tower brass was the highlight. (Original) Der Einlass mit freiwilliger Spende beim Anifer Schloss zum Turmblasen startete um 17 Uhr. Mountain peak
Festungsberg is Salzburg's second-highest mountain, boasting a historic castle at its summit that can be reached by cable car. Exploring the city's historical center is a must, but venturing up the surrounding hills like Monchsberg, Festungsberg, and Kapuzinerberg offers breathtaking views of the picturesque landscapes and architecture. The iconic Hohensalzburg Fortress, dating back over 900 years, overlooks the city from atop Festungsberg.
This complex is very, very pretty. From town, it looks beautiful as a backdrop for every photo you take. And from the castle itself, you have the most amazing views of the mountains on one side and Salzburg on the other. There are a few museums on the grounds, and a beautiful church too. This is definitely and literally the high point in your visit to Salzburg.

5 star for the views from 2 sides of the peak. On one side, you can see the entire Salzberg city view.. while the other side is more attractive, which shows green mountains and natural views. There is a restaurant at the top back side of the fortress aswell. That probably operates at evenings.

Salzburg Residence, also known as the Residenz, is a renowned palace museum featuring 17th-century works by famous artists like Rembrandt, Rubens, and Bruegel. The exuberant state rooms are lavishly adorned with tapestries, stucco, and frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr. Visitors can take an audio-guide tour to explore the grandeur of the palace and its impressive art collection.
Just by paying the regular entry fee, you get a ticket to all the rooms, a gallery, and an audio guide. The whole exhibition is really well thought through, and so not only you know where to go at any given moment, but you also don't get overwhelmed by the excessive amount of information. First, you are guided through roughly 10 rooms listening to an audio guide in each. The guide describes into detail what each painting on the ceiling depicts and why. After that, you reach the gallery part that contains some paintings from the collections of the archbishop and some other paintings. The audio commentary is available for only certain paintings, but with the amount of them, it is more than plenty. Then you reach a terasse, where you get a nice view of the square and the dom, and then you reach the dom. You see it from the top, and the view is well worth it. The whole tour took us 2-3 hours, but we didn't listen to everything the guide had to say, and we didn't read everything there was to read.

What a fantastic museum – I don’t even know where to start! The staff was incredibly friendly, and the museum itself is absolutely massive with so much to see. There are audio guides available in both English and German, and if you don’t want to pay for a lendable one, you can simply bring your earbuds and scan the QR code to listen on your phone. One of the best parts, in my opinion, was the opportunity to dress up as people from that time for a picture – it was a fun and interactive experience. Along with that, the museum is filled with amazing paintings and exhibits that give you a deep dive into the history of Salzburg. The ticket price is definitely worth it for the value you get, especially considering how much there is to explore. And props to the person who made the video about the history of the Platz – it was high-quality and really stood out compared to other museums. A must-visit if you're in Salzburg! 🎨🏰📜

This place is massive and took about three hours. It's absolutely worth the time and energy. It makes me understand not just the history of the structure but the history of this region. With that, it's easier to understand the role and the culture of this city in this modern day, and the power and money the prince archbishop holded in the history of Europe. It's well documented and narrated to keep me interested and continue. It's definitely one of the best history telling monuments.

It is the palace of past archbishops, and they say there are 180 rooms here and its internal social rooms include the priests' bedrooms, the ambassador's room, and a library. In the galleries, there are many paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens or so. What was fun is that we can have the chance to be the hero ro heroine of the paintings in some rooms by changing clothes and wearing wig. You can enter free of charge when you bring Salzburg card and it is worth.

At the Salzburg Residenz, in the grand Carabinierisaal (Hall of the Carabiniers). The ceiling fresco, painted by Johann Michael Rottmayr around 1710, transforms the hall into a baroque theatre of gods, storms, and sea horses breaking through the plaster frame. Standing here, you can almost sense how the prince-archbishops staged power and wonder for their guests beneath this masterpiece. #salzburg

Leopoldskron Palace Meierhof offers a stunning view of Lake Leopoldskron, where the iconic boating scene from a famous movie was filmed. The tour allows visitors to enjoy the picturesque scenery and take photos near the palace. The property also hosts many weddings in its beautiful surroundings, making it a popular choice for couples seeking an enchanting backdrop for their special day. Additionally, visitors can admire the fortress and private palace gardens during their visit to this beautiful lakeside location.
The overall hotel is full of character. The breakfast in the palace is quite an unique experience. That room is clean. I believe it doesn’t have any AC. But there are 2 fans which work very well for me. Also walkable to Hohen palace. Great location. Highly recommend for vacation or hiking.

We came here for the tour. You'll need to book a time for a tour online, then you'll receive a confirmation by e-mail. You'll need to check in when you arrive at the events office (located to your right when you enter the building). They'll check your reservation and you'll have to pay for the tour (26€ per person). The tour takes about an hour and the guide is very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the castle/palace as well as the city of Salzburg. Yes it is in English. It was well worth the money to be able to go in, finally, after all these years when it was a private property and the public had no access to it like a tour, but now it's part of a hotel which is next door. It was a wonderful experience. Vielen dank, Suzie!

Schloss Frohnburg, located on Hellbrunner Allee, is a smaller palace that gained fame as a filming location in "The Sound of Music." While not open to the public, visitors can enjoy a pleasant walk along the alley connecting the Old Town with Hellbrunn. It's about five kilometers from Salzburg and takes around an hour to walk. The palace is easily accessible by bike, offering a scenic ride through the Austrian countryside from Salzburg's old town.
Definitely worth visiting. Beautiful place with great history and if you arent a history fan, then perhaps You may prefer the Sound of Music..... pity its all locked up.

It's nice to see this Schloss of which the gates and the front were used filming some rememberable scenes of the Sound of Music. The gate is where Maria got a first view of the house and where she returns later from the cloister. No scenes of the movie were filmed inside, those were all done on sets in Hollywood It was funny to see Sound of Music tour groups on bicycles visiting too with one bicycle playing songs from the movie. The Schloss is closed for visitors

The place is now part of Mozarteum. You cannot visit it. The front of the building is still the same as it was in the movie Sound of Music. There’s a very pleasant garden on the back to have picnic with lots of plays for kids.

Perhaps I’d missed the no driving signs on the way to pass by as a Sound of Music fan (anyone else following the Big Boy SOM self-guided tour?), but I drove into the walking/biking path thanks to Google Maps’ instructions and earned some dirty looks from locals. Therefore, FYI: You can’t drive here if coming from the back. The gates were also closed but it looked nice from what we could see. I know it is a music school now but had I known it would be closed I wouldn’t have bothered.

Schloss Emsburg, a Baroque palace in Salzburg, is a historic gem that stands out for its architectural elegance. Built in the early 17th century, it has a rich history, changing hands several times and once being part of the Rupertiorden knights. Though it is not open to the public, the palace’s elevated ground floor, distinctive terraces, and surrounding area make it an interesting landmark to admire from the outside. Its historical significance and well-preserved Baroque design make it a must-see for architecture and history enthusiasts visiting Salzburg.
