The Bridge Tavern, located in Newcastle upon Tyne, is a charming brewpub nestled between the Quayside and the High Level Bridge. The pub offers a wide selection of artisan ales brewed on-site and serves locally sourced seasonal food. The interior boasts a playful ambiance with influences from hobbit hideaways and Viking shipyards, creating a nerdy paradise for beer enthusiasts. Visitors can indulge in mouthwatering bar bites and savor the renowned 'Pie of the Day.'
Food was great, 2 of us dined and both had Sunday dinners (I had the cauliflower steak). I was maybe a smaller portion than I would serve myself at home but still very nice and all served very hot. We got there at 12:15 and it was very quiet but was getting fuller as we left at about 13:30

What a fantastic roast dinner. One of the best I’ve ever had. Beef cooked to perfection. Giant yorkshires and the red cabbage was something special. The best bit? The doggo din dins. 🐾

Great little gem in the centre of Newcastle. We didn’t pre booked (which I highly recommend), but staff was very accommodating to find us a table. Food was excellent, great selection of local Gin and Ales. No blaring music is great bonus.

Nice clean pub. Has an upstairs beer garden. Didn’t try the food, but has a good pint of Guinness.

Amazing Steak Ciabatta, lovely staff and great drinks. Most definitely will be back.

Nice mixed sunday roast (beef, Pork, chicken) With mash, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, veggies.. For 20£ - IPA 7£ Ordering at 17h30, it was sad they told us we could not get dessert anymore as the kitchen was closed when we asked for it at 18h20 while noone asked if we wanted some.. Friendly waiters.

Love this place. Lovely food, kind staff and great atmosphere. I always come back. It has two floors, and two terraces. Good for walk-ins and you can also reserve tables. Very recommended

We went to The Bridge Tavern for lunch with our son. The two bartenders were very friendly and chatted to us. They were helpful in suggesting choices from the menu and yelling us about their experiences of Newcastle. Both of them were exceptional ambassadors for the town and for the pub. The food was lovely.

Wylam Brewery is located in a picturesque spot, overlooking a small lake in the heart of Exhibition Park. The brewery is housed in a Grade II listed building that has undergone a loving renovation. Visitors can enjoy craft ale at the tap room and attend live shows in the events space. The venue is dog-friendly, making it perfect for leisurely afternoons with your furry friend.
I absolutely love photographing weddings at Wylam Brewery! It’s such a fun, vibrant venue and different. The mix of industrial feel and cool, relaxed vibes makes it perfect for capturing both laid-back moments and those fun, lively weddings. The space itself is amazing—high ceilings, exposed beams, and plenty of light to work with. Plus, the food and beers are always out of this world. Wylam Brewery is definitely one to check out!
Nick P — Google review
As brewery taprooms go this has to be by far the slickest one I’ve been in. The Taproom has the full range of Wylam beers including upto 4 cask options, the more informal terrace bar has just the craft. If unsure ask for a taster, they’re all top quality. The main hall is closed when private functions are taking place.
Mark N — Google review
Visited Wylam Brewery for a roast dinner recently, choices were beef, pork, lamb or a veggie option. (£19). We also added a side of cauliflower cheese between 4 of us which was very good probaly best ive had. The roast with served with a big Yorkshire pudding, green veg, smashed roots, roasted parsnip and roast potatoes. Beef was really tender and well cooked, potatoes could have been slightly better. Service was mostly good except some confusion at start. Drinks a little expensive but it is their own beers that they brew, it's dog friendly and they have a lovely beer garden for after

Excellent place this! Located in a large park in walking distance from the city center. I have been hear before but this time i had decided to also try their sunday roast. I would recommend to book in advance if you want to eat on a Sunday. Beautiful area both inside and outside the brewery with plenty of seating. This time there also was two food trucks located outside the brewery. Good selection of Wylam beers on tap. There was also a few guest beers. Great service from all of the staff. Got to try the new Wylam x Wor Flags collab, really nice fruity low abv pale ale. They were officially sold out of cans of this one, but one of the waiters suddenly told me he had one 4 pack left if i would like to bring some with me home, so that was a really nice gesture👌 The food did not dissapoint either. I had the Duck Leg Croquette and Topside of Galloway Beef. Sunday roast is my favourite british dish and this was top class 👌
Svein B — Google review
Celebrated a family get together for Sunday lunch, staff were polite and very helpful. The service was paced well for us though we did run over our time slot which didn't appear to be a problem. We pre ordered our meals as there was 15 of us and food was lovely and not excessive.
Suzanne W — Google review
We had Sunday dinner at Wylam Brewery and were really impressed. The pork was well-cooked, the cauliflower cheese was spot on, and the vegan dish was genuinely enjoyable. Everything was nicely balanced and the wine selection worked well with the meal. One of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in a while.
Emily M — Google review
Unfortunately the inside was closed but we sat outside instead for a pint and a burger, lovely place to spend a few hours outside the busy and loud city center
Eugen F — Google review
This venue does not allow cars/taxi to drop you off at the door and therefore a long walk, in the pitch black to the door. Certainly not something I would have done if I was on my own as it does not feel safe. There was a shuttle bus (golf buggy) but it took too long to do each journey. Venue itself is beautiful and well looked after with a good range of drinks.

Brinkburn St Brewery, Bar & Kitchen in Ouseburn offers a cozy and informal setting for enjoying Sunday lunch during the autumn and winter months. The mismatched chairs around extended dining tables create a homey atmosphere where you can savor flavorful trimmings paired with their own craft beer. Vegans will find delight in the rainbow-colored plate of plant-based Sunday dinner.
Was treat to a brewery tour for Father's day and had a great time. The guide was excellent and so knowledgeable about the history of brewing beer. Had 3 beers to taste and they were delicious. Stayed for a meal afterwards and it was lovely. I had an all day brunch which was delicious.
Neil S — Google review
I’ve been here a number of times but never eaten. Firstly, the beer selection is outstanding and is matched by a smart and welcoming service team who were attentive and friendly. I’d never eaten previously, though had always been tempted. This time we tried the Sunday dinner ordering both the lamb and beef brisket. Sadly, the food was cold on both of our plates and lacked the seasoning to make it truly pop. I’d absolutely be back for more of their beer, but would be cautious to eat again. A welcome mainstay in Newcastle.
Lewis S — Google review
Sunday dinner (Beef and Chicken) were both brilliant. Everything fresh and piping hot. Yorkshire puddings were huge. Priced well and a huge selection of drinks to have. Would recommend and will be back to try some of the other food available
Gregg J — Google review
I’ve been to this pub a few times before and always enjoyed their homemade skin-on chips, so I was looking forward to a good meal. Unfortunately, today’s experience was a huge letdown. I visited with two friends and ordered a burger (£15.50—not exactly cheap). Instead of the homemade chips I’d had before, it arrived with cheap, skinny fries, and the coleslaw listed on the menu was missing. When we asked the waiter about it, he bluntly told us they had run out. Fair enough, but I still paid full price for a meal that wasn’t as advertised. When I raised my concerns, the waiter was clearly annoyed. He offered me a drink (which I declined) and then said I could get a refund for the coleslaw at the bar. When we finished eating and went to the bar, we were told we’d get £1 back. To top it off, the girl at the bar tried to insist she had informed us they had run out of fries—yet none of the three of us had heard that. At least she apologised, which is more than I can say for the waiter. The beef brisket in the Reuben burger was dry, and to make matters worse, we had to wait at least five minutes after getting our food just to receive cutlery. The whole experience felt disorganised and unprofessional. Wouldn’t eat here again, which is a real shame as we had planned to come back for Sunday lunch. Safe to say we’ll be going elsewhere.

Went here to do a brewery tour that had been bought as a gift for my Dad. We were greeted and served our first beer of 6 with the owner (Lee I think?) taking time to understand what beers we liked. This continued throughout our time here and we enjoyed another 5 beers along with a really informative talk about the history of the brewery and local history, learning loads around the processes. We were joined by more family and decided to stay and eat in the kitchen which was located downstairs, having seen the menu and food which all looked really good. We were impressed with the quality of everything ordered and are keen to go back to try the Sunday lunches. With over 20 beers on tap along with a full menu of other drinks, theres something for everyone. The atmosphere is really good and a great use of what is essentially an industrial unit. Great place and will definitely be back for drinks and food.
Matt H — Google review
Little bit on pricey side apart from that perfect. The young tall lad behind the bar knew his stuff. I loved how all the drinks had descriptions above the bar. Cocktails were even on offer and wow the brisket tacos are something else. Small venue outside but beautifully situated

Pleased To Meet You is a trendy bar and restaurant that has been serving comfort food, particularly burgers, along with a selection of craft beers and specialty gins since its establishment in 2013. The venue boasts an elegant design with chandeliers, leather seats, exposed brickwork, and girders, creating a blend of classic sophistication and industrial-chic ambiance.
Wow. PTMY never seems to disappoint. The food is outstanding, service incredible and so attentive. These pictures say it all. Highly recommend we will be back!

Very trendy busy rustic restaurant with attached cool bar. Popped in December enjoyed a drink from huge gin menu and booked Valtentines after spotting restaurant and food being served. Scallops, arincini 5/5, Chateaubriand looked amazing cooked perfect but went cold quick unsure if the board or just every time door opened rush of air hit our area. Manager and staff great and attentive drinks slightly slow but manager chased up. Definitely go back but sit in upper area away from door. Thanks guys.

The toast with the mushrooms was a huge sized portion. The mushroom flavor was creamy and bold. I had the sirloin as the main course and it was paired with red wine. The Black truffle butter sauce was unique and it complimented the steak. The chips were not super starchy, and the crispy texture had you reaching for the next one. The waitresses knew the menu, as I had questions about what to order. Oh and they were friendly.

Jessica was our server tonight and she was absolutely amazing .. food was delicious and plentiful .. definitely worth a visit if you're up in Newcastle

Great Sunday family early dinner, had Sunday lunch menu. Food was great as well as service. Nice, suitably quiet atmosphere despite being busy, easy to have a conversation. We came with kids, they were also really well catered for. One wheelchair user in our group, the restaurant is nice and spacious, it was easy to move around. There is one section level with the entry (where we were seated) and another section up 2 steps.

Hazel has been absolutely brilliant. Attentive to details but not overstepping. Food was delicious, we chose to go for a rib eye and a fillet steak, both cooked perfectly and accompanied by a lovely red wine. All in all, a great evening. Definitely “pleased to meet you”. Nestled on Chillingham Road in Heaton, Elder Beer has quickly become a beloved spot for craft beer enthusiasts since its debut during the 2020 lockdown. This charming café-bar, inspired by Belgian culture and run by Ed Sharp—formerly of Free Trade fame—offers an impressive selection of UK and international beers available on draught, in cans, or bottles. Patrons can enjoy savory snacks that perfectly complement their drinks while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere that occasionally features piano nights and art exhibitions.
This tap room in Heaton has some good collection of IPAs. Good atmosphere.. the backyard beer garden is also lovely.
Rajasekar S — Google review
Decent place located in a converted shop, with a good range of beers, including some super strength ones. Fair prices. Not that much atmosphere, but a good view of the street and passersby from the front window seats. A nice enough neighbourhood bar basically.

Elder Beer cafe is my favourite bar in Heaton. Amazing beer, including on tap the likes of Deya and Left Handed Giant - and in the fridge a tremendous selection including Beak. The atmosphere is always great and the service fantastic. The quiz on a Tuesday night is also a highlight. Nice little beer garden at the back. Go for a beer stay for the amazing vibes.

We took our sushi from Veganatomy over to Elderbeer to eat it there. Great collaboration! Lovely craft beer we were able to taste. If you are are around, pop in!

Really friendly cafe specialising in craft beer. I've always had a friendly welcome and its not an intimidating or off putting beer geek place. Having said that they know their onions. Stock shows both great knowledge and a love of contemporary beer styles with cans and bottles from local breweries, known craft beer names from across the UK as well as international including Belgian classics including Trappist, abbey and saison. They have eight draft lines and two cask now. As well as tap takeovers, they often have Deya beers on draft and a Rigg and Furrow on cask. There are always a variety of styles on draft and cask. The little beer garden to the rear is cosy and well sheltered to avoid showers. There is a piano for show offs but this adds character. It's a nice spot for a coffee or a beer, for meeting friends or on your own. In fact outs a good spot for solo drinking and you are not treated like you have two heads if thou just want a quiet pint or 2/3s by yourself. Also good for a take out can or bottle. They've teamed up with Flint Pizza down the road so thou can eat and they also have an arrangement with a local cheese company. A great addition to the burgeoning Chilli Road food and drink scene (If that is a thing!).

Pub
The Cluny, situated in a former 1848 mill in Newcastle's Ouseburn Valley, is renowned as one of the top music venues in the North East. It has hosted legendary gigs and offers a unique dining experience with locally sourced meat burgers and a wide selection of local and world beers. This multifaceted establishment also houses a gallery, theater venue, and a bustling kitchen serving homemade dishes like lamb stew and sandwiches.
The Cluny is still a great pub and venue, they've been holding this spot down for decades, first visit in the last 6 months, great selection of different beers, ales, a lot of them local. Food is good modern pub grub, cooked well and not over priced. Always a solid choice.
BROON B — Google review
Busy pub, was at two of its spaces Clunny 2 and Clunny 1, full disabled access to all areas, staff were good, seating available in Clunny2 more of a standing venue in 1, but you can bring seats in from the bar, if you need to sit. Good car parking nearby.

What an absolutely amazing place. As a first time visit it was a bit maze like if you look around C2 as well with it's staircase but what a fantastic set up! Good selection if beers on cask and keg and a lovely looking pub. Then you go round the corner through what looks like a cupboard door and you are in a little music venue with it's own small bar. Brilliant atmosphere and absolutely loads going on, pretty much something every night. Absolute shining light for real ale and the music industry. (We saw Reverend Peyton and his Big Damn Band and they were superb.)

Anarchy Brew Co, located in Ouseburn, offers a variety of craft beers available for delivery through their online shop. The brewery also hosts live performances and events, with friendly staff and a good selection of beers. However, some visitors have suggested improvements to the layout during popular events to accommodate all guests comfortably. Despite this, the venue is praised for its accommodating staff and excellent sound quality during performances.
This place has two of my favourite things excellent beer and rock music! I had an excellent time here. They have all the beers you could want fantastic IPA, Porter and Sour. I had to try them all.

Decent little pub/brewery. Bit cheap, but not crazy expensive (around £5.70 a pint on average). Great decor, very industrial feeling. Artisanal pizza are available via an in-venue pop up. I imagine it would be a great venue for bands, if the overheads aren’t astronomical.

Venue is cool, quality selection of beers and food is amazing but the staff really made this. I popped in with my 4 year old (at her request honest) after clip and climb next door and they couldn’t have welcomed us more, really engaging, welcoming, knowledgeable and hospitable. Like old school publicans and a far cry from your usual current day venue experience. Definitely worth a visit.

I was very fortunate to be invited to my nephews wedding yesterday 1/8/25 I have to say being of a certain age I was a bit sceptical about the choice of venue! I was happily proven wrong…… the whole set up and organisation was spot on, it is very rare to attend a function, in my opinion, where there appears to be skeleton staff, not here, there were plenty of staff behind the bar and so pleasant and attentive, a massive 👍👍👍they served tea and filter coffee, even decaf. The day just flowed and I’m sure everyone had a great time.

Full Circle Brew Co, located in Hoults Yard, Newcastle, was named the 2020 Beer 52 Newcomer of the Year. The brewery offers an immersive experience with a glass-fronted tap room overlooking the beer production and a selection of 20 different cask and keg products. In addition to seasonal ales and guest taps, they also offer local wines, spirits, and cocktails.
Spent a lovely few hours here whilst on a recent trip to Newcastle. Did an excellent and informative guided tour before sampling some delicious beers. Pizza was incredible also 👌

Visited yesterday with my Boyfriend and Brother. We did love this place, so fascinating to see the Brewery, I was so intrigued by the whole process and loved seeing it. Shows how fresh and and handmade the ale is which is important to me. The ale itself was delicious and so full of flavour my favourites were Looper, Rotator, Hippy Hop juice. The pizza was superb, loved you could actually watch them make it, all fresh and real ingredients made by hand. The wood fired oven gave a gorgeous char to it which made it extra special we even seen them bring more wood for the stove so you know it's authentic. One tiny niggle which is easily rectified that I noticed that the pizza wheel was rinsed in water and not washed with soap and water when cutting the meat and vegetarian and vegan pizzas but as I said it's a tiny detail and would not stop me returning. The bar and pizza staff really seem to care and passionate about their products. Very knowledgeable and professional they should be praised. It's dog friendly. They have outside seating. The toilets are clean and well maintained. Loved the quirky sinks, love the tap is the same as the keg taps lots of fun haha. Would definitely highly recommend. Would be happy to go alone to wait for friends. Love how friendly and chatty the staff are. Will definitely return.

We had our wedding at Full Circle Brewery. We didn't know anyone who had booked a wedding at Full Circle, all I knew was we liked it from the times we'd visited the tap room so we were taking a chance that it would be nice for a wedding but it was fantastic, I would recommend it to anyone As soon as we met Kate the wedding coordinator w had a feeling we could trust her to have everything covered and she was so on the ball, a relaxed calm coordinator but made everything smooth before the day and throughout. Everything was seamless and her communication was fab. It was just such a fun day. We were hoping for a fairly laid back relaxed day as we wanted a fun pub style vibe, and we got that but better. Everyone was so at ease because the venue is so relaxed but nicely decorated too, and the fab beers went down a storm! We had a bit of a medical emergency at the end of the wedding day with a guest and I have to say all of the staff were completely incredible. Providing First Aid with the confidence and precision of a paramedic and being very kind, calling the ambulance and even one of the staff giving us a lift to A&E to see the guest. I'm sure they weren't expecting that at the end of the night and were probably tired from a busy day and ready to go home but they handled things beautifully, we were so impressed and thankful to everyone! Coordination on the day seemed completely seamless, if there were any little bumps in the road I had no idea and was just able to relax and enjoy myself which is exactly what you want. I knew we were in safe hands with Kate. We also felt like she'd thought of everything right up to the day and it was good to sit down with her and get reminded of any little last minute decisions we needed to make, it was relaxed but she kept us right as we'd never planned a wedding before and she was the expert so we needed a little reminding about some aspects we needed to consider. Thanks again for everything Full Circle!

An excellent beer hall to sample some of the finest beers in Newcastle! Loved the venue and drinks, great view of the brewing process, would loved to have tried the food but we'd already eaten! Very good place to come for drinks and a bite to eat, staff were knowledgeable about their beers and very accommodating

LOVE this place! I’m an American “craft beer snob” and couldn’t have been happier here. “Mountains of Mars” was one of my favorite beers- EVER! Our beertenders (Ed and Amber) were knowledgeable and helpful. Pizza was great. If you’re in Newcastle- you gotta go!!

Really nice brewery tap - located upstairs with a good view over the brewery operations. Nice easy app to order, friendly efficient staff and easy going friendly big bearded locals. Most importantly some really nice IPA beer, and I could have happily sunk more than a few. Sold pizza but I can't vouch for it as we didn't eat here. Try and go on foot if you can to avoid what appears to be parking nazis outside if all the anxious signs about making sure you have paid for parking are to be believed. The walk through the lego housing of Byker from the tube station is interesting and while I'd want to keep my whits about me, didn't feel too unsafe.

Sandly not a great frist time experience, though it has an expansive choice like most brewery sute the level of customer service and knowledge at the bar is terrible please don't snap at your customers. There's a number of much more friendly venues with as much chose in the Ouseburn.

Spacious bar overlooking the brewery. There's a wide range of brews, from the weaker session ales to DIPA, light or dark and some ciders too. Really friendly staff, happy to let you sample any before you buy. I saw a large Pizza oven, although we didn't eat there. Highly recommend a visit.

CentrAle is a hidden gem in Newcastle, offering a wide selection of local craft beers as well as brews from national and international breweries. Visitors can find unique local brews that are not widely exported, such as those from Northern Alchemy, Almasty Brewing Co, By The River Brew Co, Two by Two Brewing, and Full Circle Brew Co. The staff is helpful in assisting customers to find specific brews and the shop also offers a variety of gins and gluten-free beers.
Great selection of local craft beers from Newcastle but also a large variety from other great breweries, national and international. I wanted some local brews that aren't being exported that much or at all to the Netherlands: Northern Alchemy, Almasty Brewing Co, By The River Brew Co, Two by Two Brewing, Full Circle Brew Co. The staff helped out finding the brews they had in stock from these breweries, and had a pleasant experience overall. Besides the great selection and staff, the location is awesome. If you're a tourist visiting Newcastle, you most definitely will be at or close to the central station, at which the shop is located. Some beers stored cold as well for having one on the way. A really nice addition to the shop. Overall, great shop and would definitely visit again when I'm in the area again.

I stay a few times at Newcastle in a year and I am very impressed by the number of micro breweries in the Newcastle area and their really good quality of beers. Pub
Located on the banks of the Tyne River in Newcastle upon Tyne, The Tyne Bar is a cozy pub offering a wide selection of ales and a vibrant atmosphere. The pub features a free jukebox, live music, and a garden sheltered by the arch of a road bridge. It's an iconic establishment in the city with picturesque views of the river. The outdoor space is popular when the sun shines, and it champions independent beer.
Great bar with a fantastic outdoor space, perfect for sunny days. There is plenty of seating and a good atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the service is quick. Would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a chilled outdoor drinking spot. Five stars! Their house pale is always the best, but they also bring ales from local breweries. I feel like their Blue moon has a taste.

Love this place and its location. Indoors quite traditional britisk pub. Decent selection of taps including cask. Large outdoor seating area, so specially on a nice sunny day its really nice here. They do serve food here. I had a german hot dog which was quite nice.
Svein B — Google review
Food great. The one thing that I can't look past is that when it's busy they don't just let people wait at the bar in conventional fashion. We need to stop normalising single file queues (which often stretch way out of the door at busy times). Bars are designed as such that people stand along the length of it. If I want a drink I shouldn't have to leave the building.

I was introduced to the Tyne Bar in 2018. It was good to be back! Authentic is overused but this place is genuinely the real deal. Situated between the canal and the River Tyne, almost a hidden gem, but with plenty of locals to feed the atmosphere. We sat outside with drinks and home made brownies. Highly recommended 👏👏👏

I sat outside on a quiet early autumn afternoon in the sun. Really relaxing, with a gentle breeze. The beer is very well kept and I couldn't fault the selection. Staff were excellent. Very welcoming and helpful. Not expensive and close enough to the centre to be a pleasant walk along the river. Definitely recommend here and will be back.

Bacchus is a real ale pub in the heart of Newcastle, inspired by the city's shipbuilding heritage and designed with an ocean liner theme. The interior features wooden paneling and heritage photos, aiming for 1930s art-deco glamour. The pub offers a wide selection of cask ales, microbrewery beers, wines, spirits, and soft drinks.
A good selection of ales and very friendly staff. Unusually quiet for a Tuesday evening (possibly, something to do with the Easter weekend).

This public house also has most importantly 6 hanplled ales on from interesting and local beers on. Good staff on today who was very helpful also. This pub is a must for real ale drinkers to visit when in this beautiful city. This pub is well worth a visit when drinking real ales

Bacchus is a brilliant place for a match. Around 10 TVs in different areas, Can do 3 different splits for different matches. Reasonable prices on pints for being inner city as well! And for those not out for the football it makes a lovely day time pint as well with plenty of seating options and a pool table!

Nice decor but the prices are ridiculous. £7.20 for a pint from Two by Two brewery. Two by Two is up the road in Byker.... I've seen this beer for half the price in Newcastle. There's absolutely no reason for this to be this expensive, only greed.

When I'm hosting people visiting Newcastle this is always the pub I take them to. It's fab, and pretty classy, probably one of the best in the city centre. I wish I'd discovered it sooner!
Patrick C — Google review
Can't lie I wanted to enjoy it but felt really awkward in there because i wasn't at least 55 years old. Felt quite hostile, the owner got the magnifying glass out for our IDs (we're in our mid 20s) and stared us down for the entirety of our singular pint, meanwhile he was chipper for anyone with grey hair coming up to the bar. Owner knows his market. So if you're an alchy and have grey hair then this is the pub for you 👍 Otherwise avoid.

The Wobbly Duck is a basement micro pub that opened in 2021 in Newcastle's Old Eldon Square. It is run by the owners of Beer Street Micropub and The Old Fox pub, offering a selection of ales from independent breweries in a stripped-back 'proper pub' space. The constantly changing blackboard and fridges offer various beer options, and visitors can also purchase beers to take away from its sister outlet.
Was advised to try this hidden gem by my son and it was one of his better ideas, great bar with plenty of choice of beers. Staff seemed very friendly and knowledgeable about all the selections. It’s a bar you could easily walk past and not see it but it won’t happen to me again

This is my new favorite city centre spot after a day of shopping. We only discovered it after watching a YouTube video about cool pubs in Newcastle. We must have walked by it 100 times. Every time we go in now there’s a new great selection of beer on tap and cask. We usually go in the afternoon and it’s always been quiet, and there’s ample outside seating. Not a bad spot to sit this summer while your kids are watching a movie in the Eldon square grassy area…

A proper artisanal butchers. They are intimate with the provenance of meat they sell. Best quality meats I've ever bought. Cut and trimmed as you like it. Friendly staff who are happy to answer any questions you have. Highly recommend...I drive 45 miles each way for their produce.

Yes! The perfect butcher's shop! Taking high quality meat, dry-aging it for a good amount of time (but not too much), and then skilfully butchering them into attractive steaks. Simple, but rare. I'm a huge fan of steak and steak cookery, but I don't do it very often so when I do it I want it to be perfect, and the team here were patient and helpful with me and my indecision. The pork and lamb looked equally as delicious. They have an amazing beer and wine selection, and top veg choices too. And northern rye sourdough! I think I've found my heaven, and it's in Heaton. Can't wait to go back.

The point I was making was!! I understand you have to sell the knuckle bones I've bought alot in the past. But my point was you charged me 1.48 for a rib bone an I mean a bone, after spending £60 in your shop (that I thought was greedy) I know your produce is good I never said anything about your quality of meats. I would of returned week after week if I hadn't been charged for that particular bone Hello Steven, you're just not getting my point at all!! like I said nothing wrong with your produce or quality of meats... its the principle of you charging

Housed in a four-floor venue, it offers a cocktail menu featuring premium Cuban rums, inspired by the vibrant nights of Havana. The iconic Reggae Rum Punch and various daiquiris are among the highlights. Visitors can also participate in a cocktail masterclass followed by a delicious two-course meal, where they can learn about rum and create their own Cuban drinks.
We did the sip and paint here and it was so much fun. The cocktails were lovely, and they even had a good range of non alcoholic ones for my friend who doesn't drink. We loved the shot of sprite with the non alcoholic porn star martini 😂 the staff were super friendly. Definitely recommend.

I visited on a Wednesday evening. The place very nice and welcoming. Staff was brilliant both at the front door and at the bar. We ordered a jug of Cuban Sangria, this was refreshing and sweet. We picked Sunshine Bowl with prawns. The presetantions was nice and inviting. However, we did ask if it was spicy, and we were told not. The dish was sprinkled with chilli flakes, making the flavour spicy. The waitress was really nice and changed the dish without flakes. I ordered the steak sandwich, this was nice a little bit spicy for my taste but definitely recommend if you like something with a little bit of heat. Overall I will be back to ordered the Sunshine bowl again as it was full of flavours . 😊

Wednesday night took nearly 2 hours from ordering for the food to come out. Beef ropa vieja had good flavours, chips were way too salty. Main thing that gave it 1 more star was the churros. They were served fast & were perfectly fluffy & crunchy, rum caramel really good.

1. Our pre-booked table wasn't ready upon arrival as they were "struggling to move the loud/drunk hen-do party from our table". Those were the words used. 2. Tables that sat next to us 15 mins later than us, we're served first. 3. Two out of 3 vegan meal options for my partner weren't available. She ordered the last option, a salad which came looking entirely different and missing ingredients than what the menu suggested. 4. Ordered patatas bravas without aioli as a dietary requirement, and was brought with plenty of it on, ignoring our request. 4. My beef brisket was 100% microwaved onto dry clumped rice (see photo) The music was so loud that bless your lovely waitress, she had to shout repeatedly to us to be heard and couldn't hear our answers until we comically shouted back. Yet she was the only positive element of this visit. Absolute chaos of a business all around otherwise. This is a stag and hen night destination.

I went to a Balkan party, the entry was 12 pounds, but you get a “free” shot of rakija if you come before 23:30. It was a scam. There was no rakija. Plus they made us pay for the table. Plus the bartender was rude. Nobody was apologising. My drink was bad. The music choice was not great.
Kristina A — Google review
Went for cocktail masterclass and dinner for 2. The masterclass is amazing and fun, thought it was a wonderful experience until we get to the restaurant for dinner. The entire great experience turned into nightmare when they make customers wait for over an hour to get their food considering it was “Pre-ordered” 2 hours in advance. Never been this disappointed with restaurant service in my entire life and ended up just walking out because the churros for dessert is already taking more than 30mins to get served. Arrived at resto 2pm and left 6pm without getting everything we paid for. Absolutely disappointing.

I cannot recommend Revolución de Cuba Newcastle enough for their bottomless brunch – it was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing with energy, music, and good vibes. The food was absolutely delicious – every dish was fresh, full of flavor, and felt like it had been made with care. The drinks flowed endlessly, with a great variety to choose from, and each one was spot on. What really made the experience outstanding, though, was our server Ellie. She was an absolute star from start to finish – attentive, warm, and always one step ahead. She made sure our glasses were never empty, gave brilliant recommendations, and made us feel so welcome the entire time. Ellie has that perfect mix of professionalism and fun that completely elevates the whole experience. If you’re looking for the best bottomless brunch in Newcastle, look no further than Revs de Cuba. Amazing food, amazing drinks, and if you’re lucky enough to be looked after by Ellie, you’re guaranteed to have the perfect time.

Hear me out. Get yourself the Halibut and a cherry Liefmans belgian beer and you'll have a great time. The beer was more toward a sparkling wine than a beer and it paired amazingly with the fish which was cooked to perfection. We also had the rump steak burger which was good value for money and again cooked perfectly but nothing amazing. Deserts were also good but not needed. For atmosphere and staff it's an easy5/5.

Little bit of a gushy review but I can hands down say this is my absolute favourite place to eat in town! My partner and I have been frequently in the past few years and have never been served anything less than perfection! Service is absolutely outstanding with knowledgeable and attentive staff and the food……superlative! Fish dishes; fresh, well balanced and delicious and oh my word the lamb sharing main 🤤 just make sure you don’t eat for 24 hours beforehand if you want to finish it (although the staff are very happy to wrap up for you too). All in all, outstanding! Can’t wait for my next outing to The Broad Chare 😊

Pros: Good selection of beers, scotch egg, haggis on toast is an interesting take. Cons: Too pricey for what they offer. Fish cake was too dry, only mediocre at best. "Grilled calf liver" wasn't grilled, but pan fried (though it was delicious, nevertheless). Green leaves in the salad weren't properly washed, you could see the dirt on some of them. Attention to detail was lacking, overall ("luxury soap" bottle in the toilet was refilled with some cheap washing liquid that you can hardly rinse off, etc.). Michelin list brought us here, but I regretted the visit. I hope this was a one off incident, and they are doing better generally.

Absolutely wonderful, what a find. I was struggling to get a good coffee, I went to my trusted one last time I was in town and the coffee was bitter and my croissant was old. Here everything was delightful. The girl who greeted and served me was outstanding, when I said I just wanted a coffee she smiled took me in and took my coffee order immediately. She could see i had exhausted myself shopping. I decided on the toast basket, it was delicious, beautiful thin slices of sourdough, brioche and fruit bread, three gorgeous jars of preserve and lovely butter. Enough for two but I took away the fruit bread, again she got me a little box with a smile and no bother. This will now be my go to. I have found the 21 group late, I went to St Vincent's last month and it was excellent too.

When you need a break from shopping & don't want to go to one of the "trendier" food bars in their food hall, come here. It's on the 1st floor of Fenwick & there were several tables free when we visited (even though Xmas shopping was at it's peak.) The tea & coffees were nice & it was great that they give you a long enough teaspoon for stirring in your tall latte glass (not many places do!) We had a simple crab sandwich & a Croque Monsieur (without additional egg.) Both very tasty.

All roads may lead to Rome, but in Eldon Square they all seem to end at Cafe 21. No hard sell here good food, friendly staff and a buzz that speaks for itself. Always busy, always worth it ❤️

Such a beautiful place, food was delicious and the service was amazing. It was my Mam and her best friend’s birthday and they went out of their way to mark their special day. Putting their flowers in water while we dined and gifting them a delicious chocolate brownie for dessert. The staff were so friendly, polite and showed care and kindness. I couldn’t rate them any higher. Thank you and well done 👏💕

If you're looking for a classy place for a bite to eat whilst shopping, this is your spot. The food is always delicious, the service is always spot on and the atmosphere is always vibrant. Breakfast, brunch or lunch you will not be disappointed. We love the place! The afternoon tea ain't bad either xx

I had Sunday lunch there this afternoon and I asked 2 members of staff for a drink which I didn't get. I then asked an older female member of staff, who looked like she may have been a manager, for a drink when she took our food order. Again it never arrived so I asked her again and she brought it over. I said that I had asked 3 times (it was actually 4) for it and was taken aback when she replied "Well you've got it now haven't you." What a very poor and unprofessional response to my politely pointing out what had happened. I think good customer service is becoming a thing of the past. Other than that the food was very nice and the staff were friendly.

I just wanted to post a review to say how much we enjoy visiting Cafe 21 and, in particular, how much we enjoy being served by the ray of sunshine that is Devon. Devon greets us like old friends and always makes Mam and I feel like we are the most important customers in the cafe. She provides service with such a warm and caring demeanour and always makes us laugh with her sense of humour. Mam and I visit Cafe 21 each time we come to Newcastle and I have to say that one of the main reasons we do is because we know we are going to get such good hospitality from Devon and the rest of the team. Devon really is a stand out member of the Fenwick's team and her enthusiasm for her work shines through, she really is a credit to Cafe 21 and to the Fenwick brand. We visited on Monday and we can't wait to visit again soon to have wonderful food and a warm reception.

Lovely local pub, have been here multiple times and is always playing good indie music. Good for a catch up with friends whether it’s just to drink or a sit down meal. Went today and the lady on shift was very nice :)

The fries were good, but the vegan fish was… just not it. Plus, the two small slices of tofu [vegan fish] definitely weren’t worth the price. On another visit, we had to wait over an hour for two bowls of soup, which was frustrating. That said, they do have nice nachos! The place itself has a really nice vibe, with great interior design and music that adds to the atmosphere. It’s also located in a fantastic area!

Lovely little spot for a pint, especially on a day like today when the sun is shining. It was quite busy but what else can you expect with such nice weather, and a Saturday lunch time at that! A little on the expensive side at £5.95 a pint for a cider, so while it was nice, I probably wouldn't rush back. Excellent service too, especially with how many people were there. I would recommend getting there as early as possible in order to get a table as they fill up quick. We were lucky to get one as we arrived just prior to opening.
Milo C — Google review
Good vibes but small portions for food annd fish n chips is not good, not even sure what it’s meant to be as a vegan substitute. Burgers are crap. Beers are good that’s it.

Great vegan roast, do wish maybe there was one more vegetable instead of two types of potatoes! Sticky toffee pudding was nice, did not enjoy the custard, had a weird powdered taste/mouth feel. Really lovely pub with nice decor and ambience. Good prices for the food too.

Absolutely love coming here, I was just getting over an illness so the food here was perfect for helping me recover 🥳 The fish and chips were incredible and the "chicken" patty had a great taste 👍
James H — Google review
Only good thing was the weather today, everything else was abysmal. 1 Main course, 1 from kids menu, extra portion of chips, pint and half a shandy £41 WOW!! All followed by service with the attitude, really bad taste of the what I was told is Staropramen beer (everything but or they haven't cleaned pipes in really long time) and food that was mediocre at most. This is by far the worst place in every aspect we have ever been in really long time now. Needless to say wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend it at all.

Newcastle Tap is a popular pub located opposite Central Station, known for its industrial-chic ambiance and extensive beer selection. The bar offers a variety of beers and ciders, with a focus on their eight cask lines. In addition to drinks, they also serve hand-stretched pizza made with beer dough in 12" or 18" sizes. The staff is attentive and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both locals and visitors.
Great pizza, great beer, great atmosphere. What more could you ask for? The staff were very helpful while I took way too long choosing my beer from the impressive selection of keg and cask ales. It's a great location too, set just opposite the railway station. I'll look forward to going back. Cheers.

Excellent location.. very centre just across the street from the main station. Solid quality for the price and the bartenders are awesome. The menu is all about Spanish flavors and I’d totally recommend giving it a try. But if you’re into beer.. you're at the right place. They’ve got a great lineup of craft brews on tap. And if that’s not your thing their cocktails are pretty solid too... ladies might especially appreciate that!

Found myself here by chance after my train was cancelled. A bright, welcoming space with a great selection of beers (the nitro stout was gorgeous) and delicious pizzas - I'd highly recommend the chicken katsu one. A great place to kill a sunny couple of hours waiting for a train!

Making my first visit to Newcastle in 20 years. A first for Paulicarus. Starting off in this CAMRA 2025 Good Beer Guide entry. A choice of 6 handpump real ales. 2 ciders and lots of fizzy beers as well. Paulicarus chose an unfiltered 3.4% New England Pale by Tapped Brew Co, Astral Voyage. An excellent session beer. A very modern bar with a large Mezzanine. Food served. £ 7.50 for my pint and a half of Mittel lager. Great position opposite station.

Very nice beers, large selection. Seats were comfortable and toilets clean. Can't comment on food as they ran out of pizza dough - I arrived at 8pm. However, the whole place smelled of smoke. they had left the back door open and someone was smoking outside with the smell blowing through.

Very nice place on the water, between the bridges. Relaxt atmos. The weather was nice, so sitting outside was great. Nice beers on tap outside, not much choice and none local. There is a food court where you can order with a QR code, and the food will be brought to your table. We had Indian, Greek food and a Meatstack burger. All very good!

Lovely spot under the Tyne bridge for coffee and brunch, I had the avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and it was lovely, a nice spice to it, great crunch bread, the coffee and chilled atmosphere was fabulous too, friendly helpful staff too, great spot and also worth the scenic walk across the Tyne to get to

Turned up at 8:15pm Saturday night on a bank holiday weekend and told they'd just called last orders. A star for the friendly doorstaff who let us go in. We figured we'd get a quick half and move on. The options were very mainstream (they had Guinness and Kopperburg for example). Looks like it could be nice, but my opinion was it wasn't really what it was advertising in beers or opening times
Paul M — Google review
Popped in here for a pre dinner drink. Great location right on the river. Only the outside bar was operating. Because it's outside the drinks are served in plastic cups. Found it more expensive than the pubs, 20 pounds for 2 pints of beer and a gin and tonic.
Karen E — Google review
Fab location with great selection of food outlets. We tried a couple and would highly recommend Dabbawal Indian street food! Point to improve: It’s on the expensive side (£7 a pint), the beer selection is small considering its a tap location and the app confusing. Didn’t take away from awesome location and fab food/drink atmosphere would defo recommend 😄

By far one of the best place to eat and drink in Newcastle & Gateshead. The location is perfect, the views are outstanding. Nestled in the heart of Newcastle, The Bridge Hotel is a delightful Tudor-style pub that effortlessly combines history with modern charm. Set against the backdrop of the medieval Castle Keep, this inviting establishment offers breathtaking views of the River Tyne from its outdoor terrace and beer garden. Inside, guests can enjoy a warm ambiance featuring cozy Victorian snugs, intricate wooden paneling, and stunning stained-glass windows.
It's one of the most beautiful pubs in NCL. It's just across the Newcastle Castle and a few metres from the Tyne River. Drinks were good and service was quick. I'd recommend it as one of the "must visit" pubs in NCL.

Had a quiet pint here whilst on a 2 day art visit to Newcastle. Beautiful old pub by the castle and one of its many bridges. A lovely sunny day meant the stained glass in the windows was truly glowing. Friendly barmaid in a lovely place, good beer choice I had a hoppy pale ale, highly recommended

Paulicarus is ticking off the 2025 CAMRA Good Beer Guide entries. Sat overlooking the low level swing bridge where Christine's dad Jim used to work the night shift in the late 1970's. Next to the high level bridge, hence the name. Ten handpump real ales cement this as a GBG pub. My first ever visit to this marvellous building. A small outside river view beer terrace with super views not open in March. ( needs TLC.) A new brewery for me, Breworks in Pickering. A 5% Coal Porter..ha ha. Downstair toilets let down the place

A wonderful little find a short distance from the Riverside and Newcastle Central Station. Very busy bar, standing room only for us. Fabulous atmosphere offering a wide range of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including some local brews. The toilets are located downstairs. If you like stained glass, do have a look around at the scenes depicting the traditional trade of the area. Directly opposite, you'll find Newcastle Keep and part of the old castle walls, castle well, and the Castle Stairs. I suspect the way to do the stairs is down and not up as we did!!

Okay, so... the drinks menu at this bar is in a state of continuous evolution. However, bar staff - such as Matty - are legends in the bar scene and have the wealth of knowledge and skill to remember the classics, even when off the menu. Five of us in today, and the bar heroes - again, Matty. Remember that name, that man is skilled - has made all of our favourite drinks monthsand in some cases years since they've left the menu. Don't be misleaded. If the bar is rammed, then don't be that guy/gal. Thwybe got people to serve. But, this team and this bar WILL find you a drink you love.

Would say this is one of the best summer bars around Newcastle. Big screen showing the sports and other events on. Very friendly staff, lots of selection on the beer/spirits and they light a fire on your table when it starts to get cold. Also love the art as they use a local artists

Didn't try the food despite being there for a very special event which was very well managed and organised. Staff friendly and helpful helped make for a very enjoyable, comfortable and safe feeling environment. Would definitely recommend
Dobbers K — Google review
Attended the ABBA event today and can honestly say I felt that we were totally ripped off. Not enough seating to accommodate the hundreds of tickets sold at £19.50 each. Some outdoor seating but despite weather warnings for days event organisers didn't have the sense to cover this seating area up until the benches were already soaking. The bar staff were ill equipped to cope with the numbers and actually ran out of wine. Worse of all were the actual ABBA tribute. One actually looked like she had never sang in front of an audience in her life and looked like a rabbit in headlights. I was beginning to think the actual tribute band hadn't turned up and these were a couple of staff standing in. Honestly feel that I have not only had my eyeballs ripped out, but my sockets as well.

Visited this place during the day and appeared lovely but what a different vibe on a night. It appeared to be a reggae night with lots of stoners taking over the dancefloor. Food was spot on but not somewhere I would choose to go back. Such a shame as it has so much potential

Went to an ABBA event on 19th July that we had booked well in advance and the group of us had paid £100 in total for tickets. Turned up early as the rain was bad to get a table and staff were extremely rude stating they weren’t open yet and when I asked when they opened they tutted and said when the event starts, despite saying 12 online. The event in itself was absolutely terrible, found a post on Facebook which proves the singers were found online a few days before just asking for a couple girls to sing and it SHOWN! The place was rammed full and no one was sheltered from the rain despite having ages to prepare for a day they knew was going to be wet. Ordered food from the bar and was told my plastic thing would buzz when it was ready, ages passed so I went in to get it and was shouted at by the woman stating the food was ready ages! The bar ran out of Prosecco after less than an hour which was the final straw for us and caused us to leave the event. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!

Despite its small size, it has been recognized as one of Newcastle's best pubs by CAMRA. Another hidden gem I was advised to visit, I have to say it was a great piece of advice. Superb selection of draft ales and plenty choice from the fridge as well. Loads better than the Wobbly Bob or whatever it's called. Great beer and staff. Phenomenal micropubs and a real exemplar of what this should mean. Helpful and knowledgeable lad behind the bar (not sure if he was an employee or owner but he did a great job). Fantastic selection of beer on draft and cask supplemented by some excellent chilled cans in the fridge. Small outdoor seating area. Only downside might be the accessibility for some as it's down a couple of steps in a basement type room but it adds to the character and atmosphere of the place

I highly recommend no matter what you drink it'll be the finest pint or half pint pulled in the NE postcode.

The Split Chimp is a cozy micropub that first opened in Forth Street in 2015 before relocating to Westgate Road the following year. It has since expanded to include a branch in Whitley Bay's Spanish City. The pub offers a homey atmosphere with leather Chesterfield sofas and an inviting environment for patrons to enjoy real ale on handpull or bottled craft beer.
This is a great bar, situated within a railway arch the beer selection here is excellent. No main stream generic brews to be found here, just a fabulous selection of independent brewers. The owners knowledge & experience of beers is impressive which should pretty much gaurentee you won't be disappointed. It has a lovely atmosphere and the locals were delightful. I highly recommended this bar.

Popped in on a Sunday around 5pm before getting my train home. Had a pint of Oak Cream IPA (£5) and a half of their exclusive Cleaver Chimp (£1.80). Two delicious beers, I’ll be back. Homely interior with loads of character. Games, piano, cool music, some what appeared to be regulars. Friendly and efficient staff. Good accessibility, door isn’t automatic and there might be a ridge. Not sure about toilets.

Lovely pub. Good size, very friendly and helpful and a great beer selection. If you sit at the front, near the window they even have a guitar you can strum on. Will definitely be going back there next time I visit Newcastle for a drink.

Good selection of beers however on Sundays some kegs were empty and not replaced. Staff friendly and good space to sit and drink. Good music and good volume. Upstairs unavailable on this visit. Will happily return and definitely recommended. My wife has advised that the ladies toilets are spotless 👍

Market Shaker is a vibrant and popular bar located in Newcastle's Bigg Market area. The industrial-style bar offers a lively atmosphere, an extensive beer garden, and an exclusive cocktail menu curated by award-winning mixologist Josh Callon. In addition to serving up delicious cocktails and craft beers, the bar features a kitchen run by the renowned Scream for Pizza, offering 18 New York-inspired pizzas available by the slice or whole.
This is a great bar, not too far from the station so a good starting point when arriving in Newcastle. The pizzas are great and cooked well. Plenty of nice beer on tap. Can't fault it

Absolutely appalling place. Terrible, terrible music. Think Vengaboys and corny rubbish like that. This cost £5.00 each on the door and we stayed for one drink and left. We couldn’t stand it anymore it was like being at a kids birthday party. I’m amazed they didn’t start playing the shark song it was so bad. We didn’t have food but the pizzas did look nice. Bar staff miserable and stood constantly on their phone. Only looking up to serve someone and being visibly annoyed because they interrupted their scrolling.

This place is a classs night out. Order sourdough pizza at 1am without having to leave the venue IDEAL. And the pizzas are wicked too and such good priced. Staff are niceee and music is always bouncing.

Went to the bar and ordered 4 doubles and 4 shots - not a cheap round! But even more expensive than expected! Asked for the bill and when we got it we were charged an extra £8 NYE charge! Questioned it and was told they added it New Years EVe and no one questioned it and so was told to do it all the time! I’m happy to pay premium prices for a prwmium experince - this was just a rip off! Do not recommend!

Busy venue with good music and a nice crowd, good deals on trebles and they got pizzas all night long which is amazing when on a night out (plus they are pretty good pizzas), absolutely recommend this bar if you want a class night out!

Located in the Heaton area of Newcastle, The Heaton Tap is a cozy micro pub and bottle shop offering a diverse selection of craft beers, real ales, and over 150 bottles and cans. Situated just off Chillingham Road, this converted shop provides an intimate setting with friendly service and a vibrant atmosphere. Patrons can enjoy indoor and outdoor seating while savoring the extensive variety of draught beers, ciders, and wines available at fair prices.
Small but perfectly-formed bar inside a converted shop, a few metres off Chillingham Road. Loads of beers in cans and on draught, for fair prices. Friendly service and a great atmosphere, it's cramped inside but that adds to the character. There are a couple of small tables outside.

Booked a slot here just after pubs reopened. Nice set up with the outdoor seating. Friendly welcome from the barman and tried two great ales at very reasonable prices. Always good to support local businesses and you won't go far wrong choosing this place. Will be back for certain.

Went twice. First time was a pleasure, the man serving us was nice and the atmosphere pleasant. Came a second time, I believe it was the landlord behind the bar this time as comments suggest, and he was incredibly rude to me and my friends, so much so that we won't be going back. Go to elder beer around the corner, they are much friendlier there.
Cgia9 — Google review
If I could have given zero stars, I would have. Not sure how it won the North East pub of the year award 2 years ago. The man behind the bar was the rudest, most unwelcoming person I've ever encountered anywhere. Shame, as the beers were nice, but they were ruined by him. Never going back again. Think he keeps it open just for his mates, who all hang around the bar and are also very unfriendly.

5/4/2019. A good afternoon/evening was had by my group & other customers whilst l was there aprox - 4 pm - 9.30pm, the Heaton Tap has an interesting selection of beers/ciders on draught & prices are reasonable. Bar snacks are available plus l think l saw pickled eggs on sale behind the counter. Bar service was fast but be patient & have a chat with the person behind you whilst waiting. Not forgetting the gluten free beers/beers/ciders in the wall drinks cabinet. The Heaton Tap is a very intimate & cosy establishment, & you may end up making friends with the folks on the next tables & who know you may become regulars (if you are not already) at the Heaton Tap. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂

Two By Two Brewery and Tap Room, an award-winning brewery originally located near the famous shipyards of Wallsend, has since moved to Byker in 2022. The taproom offers a great selection of their own beers on keg and cask, with a few options from other breweries available as well. Visitors can enjoy a range of reasonably priced beers served by friendly staff in a bustling yet comfortable atmosphere.
Groovy brewery with cool music and 1st time seeing the Baghdaddies and The crossings atmosphere was amazing beer was delicious and with the added Wood fired pizza made for a good night with friends.

Great taproom, always great beers, Two by Two must be one of the most consistent breweries out there. Deducting 1 star from what's always a 5 star experience for the barman with the acoustic guitar but adding a bonus star for being open on a Thursday evening unlike Wylam.
Jamie — Google review
What a little gem this venue is. We were there to see the fabulous 'Favourite Child'. A band that continues to improve on their very high standards. Today was yet another outstanding set. The acoustics for the venue are surprisingly pleasing. It is a compact venue that is set in an actual brewery. What's not to like. Grass roots live music is alive and kicking. Kick on !!
Tommy S — Google review
In the area for a business trip and had some cask beers, in the pubs in the centre. I had to look into the brewery as they were so good, and as luck would have it, they have a great taproom, serving cask and keg within walking distance of the city centre.

Took a wrong turn looking for The Cumberland Arms and hit the Two by Two brewery. A typical micro on an industrial estate that opens as a bar for limited hours. Good pint of Pale. Pleasant on a grey and cool August evening. Bring your thermals in winter. ( Spring and Autumn as well.) Two cadk real ales. Well worth the detour says Alic. Boothroyd getting tired after a hard day drinking.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
Surprising little tap room in the brewery in the middle of Byker! Nice and warm inside even though the tap room is within the warehouse. DJ playing a few funky tunes and a nice little selection of two by two beers, as well as wine if you want it. There was a food van there too when we were there. Will definitely be visiting again!
Louise — Google review
A friend brought me to the Two by Two taproom about 3 years ago, and it almost instantly became our favourite hangout spot. The best beer I’ve ever had - particularly their flagship beer, Snake Eyes - wonderful staff, a friendly welcoming space and a beer garden. Live music, dog socials, quiz nights, and plenty more. Dog friendly too (met many wonderful pups there!). It was so good we got married there - best day of our lives. Massive thanks to everyone involved - you were all fantastic.
Ian C — Google review
Great taproom for one of the regions nest breweries. They have around 8 keg on, and two cask. All were their own beers. If I was being picky I'd like one or two guests on, not sure if they ever do. They also have a fridge with cans, both their own and a few from other breweries. I couldn't see any prices for cans in the fridge which would have been useful. They also have a few soft drinks which I thought were expensive (£2.50 for a small bottled apple juice) albeit they were premium brands. The seating is fairly typical brewery tap room wooden benches with seating available both inside and outside. The outside area has a canopy to offer shade/shelter if needed. There were four unisex toilet cubicles outside which were constructed in a container unit but immaculately clean and maintained. They were selling gourmet scotch eggs and pork pies on my visit, along with usual crisp offerings. A food truck was also setting up outside so I assume it varies what offering comes in the truck on any given day. There is plenty of free on street parking right outside, or the metro is just under ten minutes walk away so it is easily accessible. Well decorated with the typical two by two artwork and the brewery tanks are literally there to add to the feel. There's a couple of very minor things that I'd improve but they are trivial really and don't detract from a great venue. Definitely be back.

Great selection of beers, wines spirits etc. I came down from Newcastle West end, spent a good 20 minutes checking out what was available, and left with 7 different beers (double on a couple of them) which are looking mighty fine I'd say. Whilst it's not exactly local to me, I was more than happy to make the trip, as supporting "local" businesses makes all the difference and ensures the big boys don't muscle everyone out... It'll be a special trip out, but I'll definitely be back soon.

Hadrian Border Brewery, established in 1994, is known for its focus on cask ale production. The brewery operates from a 40 barrel plant in Newburn after taking over other breweries. They offer home brew supplies through their online shop and deliver to various locations across the region. During the COVID lockdown, they have adapted by offering delivery services and even provide freebies like beer-themed facemasks and discount vouchers. Customers appreciate their fine beer and friendly service.
Excellent service. Placed an order online yesterday but accidently didn't click complete & didn't realise until I arrived to collect. Still sorted me out with the 2 x 5l boxes that I needed. Connected up to my Angram pump at home without any issues and served proper pints. Not a real ale drinker myself but my friends assured me it was awesome. Some much so its all gone!!

I've tried 5 of your beers now and they're all lush, they're all different but all great giving you a nice range of flavours. I find some beers suffer from a bottle compared to draught but yours don't they're still excellent. Also seem to be noticing them popping up more in local pubs which is good to see.

I've ordered the bag in a box Tyneside Blonde a few times now over the last month or so. Cracking pint, have to say its one of my favourites now. Great work and superb delivery service. My tip is to pour into a 1 litre cafetiere and plunge a few times then pour straight into your pint glass and let it settle for the perfect pub pint at home.

They are getting me through COVID lockdown! I miss the pub but I really missed proper cask ale. Keg and bottles are just too fizzy. Hadrian's 5ltr Bag-in-Box was the answer. I couldn't believe that my favourite ales can be delivered to my door for free. And that is not all ... I regularly get freebies too - beer-themed facemasks, bottles of beer, discount vouchers - you name it. Fine beer and great friendly service! I love them!

First time trying this restaurant……boy I was not disappointed. Best Sunday lunch in the north east. Firstly the setting is lovely, fantastic outside seating area and stacks of character inside. Been a few years since we were last here and was just as good as I remember. We got the langostine cocktail and scallop starters, with oyster and hash brown snacks. Followed by Duck breast and a side of cheese leeks. All dishes were exceptional, but I do need the recipe for the brown sauce that came with the hash browns. Or at least them to sell bottles of it. I've never felt so passionate about a condiment but this is well deserving. Service was great, attentive and friendly.

Nestled on Jesmond Road, Peace & Loaf is a sleek and modern British restaurant known for its creative and artfully crafted cuisine. Helmed by chef patron Dave Coulson, a former Masterchef: The Professionals finalist, the restaurant offers a fast-changing menu that showcases locally sourced ingredients. With an attractive dining room and relatively affordable prices, it's an ideal choice for those seeking fine dining on a moderate budget.
Fellow entrepreneur and Chef owner Dave Coulson runs a sublime restaurant that is absolutely perfect for a dining experience. Great service from the entire team who were all very friendly and happy in their work. Wine pairing and champagne by the glass were perfect accompaniments to the amazing seasonal tasting menu which was incredible. The design of the restaurant itself was also perfect being spacious while being intimate too and with a very cool and contemporary design. The only downside with Dave is that he supports ManU and not Newcastle! Apart from that he’s a cracking guy and an inspiring entrepreneur who runs one of the best fine dining restaurants in Newcastle.

Where to start at this amazing place. Knew it was going to be a challenge for the team, as my wife doesn’t do seafood or spiced up food. So they offered us the Lunch time menu and they got it spot on, making small tweaks to Christine's menu to ensure that there wasn’t anything too spicy in her dishes. I opted for the wine pairing and wasn’t disappointed. I even got a free top up with one of the wines, how good is that. This place truly deserves a five star rating for food and especially service

Absolutely incredible service and atmosphere from one of Newcastle's few Michelin starred restaurants (one of the others being its sister- Solstice, both by Kenny Atkinson). The staff were attentive and passionate about the food, restaurant and city. The building itself is full of olden charm and allows the vibe to be high-end but unpretentious. The drinks/wine list was long and plentiful with the option to add a pairing to your tasting menu. The menu itself was fresh, delicious, seasonal and without fault. We opted for the extra course of langoustine and scallop agnlotti which was incredible. My other favourite dish would be the ceviche which was also plated beautifully. On the whole, exceptional and I'll most definitely be heading back or to Solstice when I'm next back in the motherland.

I came with my parents for my birthday and firstly the staff were super accommodating to my mums food preferences which are admittedly quite confusing. They were also super attentive and friendly. Our cocktails were lovely and the food was incredible with generous portions. They packed up all our leftovers very neatly in a bag, didn’t rush us and made our time special. I especially thought the chicken dish was delicious and my mum loved the mandolin dessert. Obviously on the pricey side but worth a visit for a treat. The pictures don’t show all the courses, just a few.

Fancy food rather than fine dining. So incredibly disappointing. Off to a very bad start when 3 seperate staff approached our table to ask if we'd like to order. Another 2 came and asked if we wanted drinks! We ordered a drink and waited - and waited - finally the waitress appeared and went to the wrong table. Then wandered around and went back to the bar. We waited! Eventually with drinks the food came. We had the tasting menu - only it wasn't a tasting menu - a roast chicken dinner or steak (at an extra £50). The first few courses were tasty but nothing extraordinary. Then the Tatar and confit egg - well - a hard boiled egg! It was replaced with apologies but for this kind of money it just wasn't good enough. The evening was saved by Conor - the Irish waiter. Knowledgeable, funny and very good at his job. We were given a discount and a free drink. I would say we had a good time in spite of the place rather than because of it. Could not recommend it on any level. Apparently it had a Michelin Star - once... It's definitely slipped since then.

I have been looking forward to coming here for years. Having worked hospitality and eaten at a lot Michelin restaurants around the world, I had great expectations. You go to restaurants like this for the experience - it’s about the ‘theatre’ - the attention to detail of the wait staff/service, the menu/food/flavours and of course the ambience. While the food was lovely and the staff were friendly - I felt the restaurant doesn’t know what it is. I left feeling that it was a nice dinner - but not to the level that it sells itself as. Service - there was a lack of attention to detail. For instance, we had to top our own water up, we had to ask what the dishes were that we were being served and no one thought about giving us our coats at the end of the night - we had to ask several staff. The prices paid at a restaurant like this, you just can’t switch off - which sadly happened on this Saturday night. Any other restaurant I wouldn’t care - but a Michelin restaurant I expect more. Food - was lovely and very tasty. There were no flavours or combinations that I thought were life changing. There was no amuse-bouche - but the cod and beef were nice. The flavours of the cabbage side with the beef was the most memorable. The wine list was fine - however it is served to you on an iPad which did kind of ruin the ambience of the dinner to look and scroll on an iPad. Ambience - lovely old building - but again I felt there were simple wins that were missed. Staff didn’t split the tables up, so while the restaurant was only half full, they sat us all next to each other and left half of it empty which was odd. The music was also random. Billy Joel, modern pop and not what I would call background music. Lastly, these restaurants tend to be for special occasion destinations. For us it was our 11 year anniversary. When you tell staff they usually make a fuss, or plate your desert with happy anniversary written in chocolate or something random. While it may feel naff - it is important to remember that restaurants like this specialise in ‘special occasion’ dinning. Again, even while knowing it was our anniversary I couldn’t help feeling a bit unloved because nothing was done to make us feel special at all. Not a big deal, but again this is not a normal restaurant, which is reflected in its price. And then the bill came out with a £59 tip automatically put on it (15%). A bit excessive - I wouldn’t normally mind paying it if the service was great - but it was ordinary. I paid it anyway - but I did leave the night with a bad taste in my mouth. So yeah all in all disappointing. If this was a restaurant like 21 - I wouldn’t haven’t have felt the same way - however I wouldn’t have just blowing £450 on a dinner for two.

Fantastic meal, it was quiet (Friday afternoon) but the food and staff were excellent. Good selection of whiskeys and a couple of cracking beers. Recommended.

Very expensive but nothing exceptional about the food. The main course of Sea Bream was very salty and the waitress said she would let the kitchen know!!! It was a special occasion as it was a wedding anniversary which we stated at the time of booking however no attempt was made to make us feel special.

First time visiting house of tides and will unfortunately be the last. Visited as a group of 4 as a celebration on a Friday night. We asked to have a drink downstairs first, there was absolutely no atmosphere downstairs and it was not a cosy or welcoming vibe. The waitress also told us the bar were unable to do two of the cocktails we asked for, despite a chilli margarita being a pretty standard drink these days. When we went upstairs we were not welcomed or asked if it was our first time dining at the restaurant etc. Simply “are you ready to order?” Which took us all by surprise as we had booked a tasting menu so didn’t think we would need to. It was explained that we could upgrade the main course and that’s what we could order, we were also informed that they didn’t have the main course of pheasant available and it would instead be pork. Quite disappointing that a Michelin stared restaurant didn’t have one of their main courses available on a Friday 7pm sitting. The food was presented well, but tasted average and didn’t feel ground breaking, service was alright but didn’t feel smooth or confident, certainly not Michelin level. There isn’t much atmosphere in the restaurant and the toilets give the vibe of a standard cafe and not a Michelin stared restaurant. We had made a note on the booking that the night was a celebration, there was a congratulatory card hidden at the back of our table, a nice touch, however there was spelling error which was just written over, you would think at a Michelin stared restaurant a new card would have been used instead. It’s a little thing, but you would expect better! The bill came to over £800 and everyone left absolutely starving, with cereal and toast required when we got home!! Overall a very, very expensive and disappointing visit. It’s a shame to leave a negative review but when prices are this high you do expect better.

Feels like you’re paying for the name rather than the food. The tasting menu felt very uninspired and rather standard.

Pub
Restaurant
City Tavern is a charming pub located in Newcastle with a striking Tudor facade and cozy interiors featuring bookshelves, chandeliers, and exposed brickwork. The pub offers award-winning ales and a hearty food menu in a laid-back atmosphere that allows visitors to escape the city's hustle and bustle. With its warm lighting and welcoming staff, patrons are encouraged to relax and enjoy their drinks and meals at their own pace.
Arrived for Breakfast and the bar is exceptionally clean, Aaron greeted me politely and with an energy that is rare in a bar at opening. The breakfast options are varied and include Vegan, Veggie and the full carnivore like myself. Food was served quickly, clearly cooked fresh and was of good quality (though the sausages were a little plain for my taste, so I did use some of their Stokes Brown sauce). Charging points in most booths for your phone or laptop. Overall a great place in town to have a traditional breakfast in comfort.

We had a lovely time at City Tavern. We had a yummy lunch, including gluten free beer on tap. Lots of gluten free and vegetarian food options available. The vibe inside was lovely and the staff were really really nice and very attentive!! There was free wifi, free charging ports and very comfy chairs. An added bonus is that they show movies for free at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm everyday on their giant outdoor screen!! Such a great vibe, definitely recommend as a stop in during a day in Newcastle.

We had the upstairs for a private event, but the whole of the tavern was gorgeous and fun! The decor was neat, the drinks fresh, and the service impeccable. Fair warning - they aren't joking about the 'giant' Yorkshire pudding, it spans a huge dinner plate!

Absolutely fantastic venue. I organised a scavenger hunt at work and wanted to hide some challenges round the pub. I didn't call ahead, just turned up on the day, hoping they would accommodate. The manager on shift helped out and even joined in by hiding a challenge himself. Super service!!!! I have been here a number of times now, and enjoyed every visit.

Wow, why haven't I ever been here before. Great pub and eatery in the middle of Newcastle. real home cooked food and an array of beverages alcoholic and non alcoholic. Plenty of choice for meat eaters and vegan options. Portions huge!! Staff were lovely and friendly, atmosphere was great too. Decor was fab, so well done. Definitely recommend to anyone. Dog friendly 😌 Gluten free menu 👌

Two meals and two drinks for just over £40 about the going rate now for everywhere. Food was nice (Cajun chicken burger, Slaw, Chips) wasn't much choice from the menu which is sometimes a good thing, veggie options are limited. Service was quick and efficient, still not sure why they have a perspex cover infront of the till which make communication with staff at the bar weird. Someone at the bar asked for Crayon's and to my surprise behind me there was what appeared to be a kids bday party?? it's a pub not a crèche what's wrong this these People? at one point some parents left their kids to leave the pub?? Mind boggles. It's definitely something I've noticed eating out in town these days people are treating pubs as playgrounds for their kids.

Avoid, been for lunch today and spent £47 on 2 sandwiches with chips and 2 drinks. Beef was tough with watery gravy and the fish fingers sandwich had next to no fish in it just batter, definitely not homemade bread and they even managed to make the chips bland. The waiter avoided us once the food arrived and we noticed they only cleared plates once customers had left. Obviously not wanting to hear complaints. As we left 3 lady's were sending back their meals, really wished we had done the same. Expensive drinks and rubbish food would not recommend.

Barluga is an elegant gastropub housed in a former bank, offering a sophisticated atmosphere and modern British comfort food. The venue features high ceilings, leather chairs, and drapes, with an open kitchen adding to the ambiance. Guests can enjoy a first-rate cocktail list and an extensive wine menu while indulging in bar food bites such as sweet potato fries, Lindisfarne oysters, and baked camembert.
Loved sitting outside on the upper floor, even though it was freezing! The heating lamps were nice but kept turning off every 5 minutes—please fix that, it’d make the experience so much better. Cocktails were amazing (£9 for a pornstar & French martini—both good), and my friend’s vanilla latte (£3) was surprisingly good too! Shoutout to the super lovely waitress—wish I got her name because she truly made the experience better. Someone find her and give her a raise! 😂

Wasn't sure on the staff at first as they didn't greet us when we first arrived on the roof terrace, but we soon found them to be friendly and very attentive. The food was excellent although a little bit slow between courses, however that was fine with us as we were there for a leisurely lunch with drinks as well.

Had lunch today we are regulars and always have the special but they no longer do it. I had the Moroccan lamb and it was disgusting, £19 I wish I had taken a photo, certainly wouldn’t recommend it. Place was empty so not sure if chef has changed and the normal lovely staff weren’t in

I had the bang bang chicken salad. I was a bit disappointed as the salad was like a bag of salad with carrot red cabbage etc not Asian veg as described on the menu. I noticed there were long green beans which were nice and chopped fresh chilli. The chicken was nicely charred. The dressing was more like olive oil which was too much for me personally. No other taste which I would have expected more from bang bang salad.

Ernest Cafe Bar is a vibrant independent cafe bar located in the heart of Ouseburn, Newcastle. It offers a diverse menu featuring seasonal dishes and brunch options during the day, as well as a sophisticated evening menu. The cafe is known for its commitment to genuine food, drinks, music, art, and events from morning till late every day.
Lovely brunch experience - Turkish eggs, orange juice and flat white were all delicious. Really friendly and helpful service. Nice mixed crowd. Great atmosphere on Sunday morning when we were there. Dog friendly. Outdoor seating. Good to book ahead as was quite busy when we were there. Street parking is free on a Sunday but we had to drive around to find a spot. We paid about £25 each for food and a couple drinks each.

Service was patchy with the drinks arriving in drips and drabs, and some being spilled on the way. Maybe a tray would have been easier? The waiters were attentive and friendly enough. The coffee was average, however the food was delicious. Seating was canny uncomfortable in the back of the establishment but did look the part. Neither hand dryers were working in the ladies WC. I’d go back and maybe try another drink and definitely a few more dishes I’d like to try too.

A great place for a bite and a drink. Even though seems a bit off the beaten track. Great vibes inside and dog friendly too. We had a lovely brunch here. Great selection of food and drink (wish we were not driving and could have a breakfast Bloody Mary!) Highly recommend hash bowl! Friendly service and reasonable prices!

Quality food! if you’re looking for a quick brunch or lunch place Ernest will not disappoint. The portions are plentiful and prices are generous. On different occasions i’ve tried the sandwiches and pancakes and both have been phenomenal. The sandwiches are made fresh so it differs what is available so try not to leave it too late if this is what you’re hoping to get. the sandwich options aren’t stated on the menu so you have to ask, i think it could be useful to include a separate menu for the sandwich availability if doable, either way it wasn’t an issue for us! they have a large variety of alcoholic and none alcoholic drinks, with a range of fizzy drinks and still, so plenty option. the service is quick so hence the mention if you’re looking for a quick brunch! Staff are lovely and cannot fault the place, fantastic!

Came here for brunch with a couple of friends, food was so tasty and lovely flavours, such a nice calm atmosphere as well, dog friendly also! Datbar is a trendy urban spot that serves as both a bar and restaurant, offering a wide range of craft beers, wines, lagers, and cocktails. The establishment is known for its ever-changing selection of 20 beer taps featuring popular brands like Tyne Bank, Anarchy Brew Co., Beavertown, and Bristol Beer Factory. In addition to its impressive drink options, Datbar also offers specialty pizzas and has gained recognition in the local dining scene.
Nice place this. We had pizza, a burger and chips and shared. Pizza was fantastic, could have not had the burger. It was nice but wouldn’t have it again. Good beer selection. Good staff. Doesn’t take American Express. Baby changing has to be accessed by a lift and uses the Theatre facilities which run underneath the bar.

We were originally intending to go to Pizza Punks however when we arrived there was a sign on the door saying that they had ran out of gluten free bases...so we tried Dat Bar instead and were really impressed with the place. My pizza was incredible, had many toppings and tasted even better than what I expected, my partner's gluten free pizza was also great. We both would love to return to this place.

One of the best pizzas in Newcastle, everything done by hand. Proper sourdough base. 10/10. Also a phenomenal selection of local craft beers. A great choice for lunch or dinner for 2’s, small groups or full blown parties or events.

May 2023 edit: sadly they no longer do pizza which is a big loss for Newcastle! Superb pizza! Amazing crust and the Italian sausage is as good as you'd get in Brooklyn! Very centrally located; laid back atmosphere; lovely staff. Done a nice job with a recent restaurant refurbishment. Look at this gorgeous pie!

First time I've eaten here and have to say i I was surprised. Myself & my friend were just grabbing a quick bite while out & about so shared a margherita pizza. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Newcastle, The Head of Steam Quayside is an intimate venue that promises a memorable night out. With a cozy capacity of just 90, it fosters a close-knit atmosphere where music lovers can truly connect with the performers. While it may host smaller bands, this only enhances the experience as fans passionately sing along to every tune.
We regularly come here for lunch on nice days after a walk along the quayside. The only bit I don't like about it is that the tables, sauce bottles and menus are usually sticky to the touch. That aside, they have a really comprehensive beer menu (we enjoyed pineapple and grapefruit wheat beer shandies last time) and the food is pretty good. The lunch menu offers a good discount and we usually go for burgers or gyros.

Depending on which day you visit, it can be very very busy, or very quiet! I visited across two days and noticed the Friday night was jam packed, compared to the Sunday afternoon. We had food on the Sunday but I wasn't impressed. It was quite expensive for what it was. The chips weren't cooked and some were still quite cold/wet. The food just wasn't what I imagined as I had been a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Ground floor access to toilets which is great. It's a big enough bar that you can normally find a free seat!
Corinne R — Google review
Called for drinks late afternoon on a Wednesday. A few people in so plenty of choices for seating - booths, sofas and tables for food. Decent selection of beers, and as with other Head of Steam pubs there is something for everyone. Nice friendly service.
Steve W — Google review
Took my mate here and waited outside because I remember last year the food being incredible. What ever happened? Did the chef quit? It’s absolutely unacceptable to serve stale 1 or two day old food to customers. Ordered two burger and chips from here and what came was a joke. Two black thin burgers burned to a crisp which almost took out my tooth. Zero bounce, juice or moisture meaning they probably were sat for a day or two then absolutely nuked to charcoal and served. And if I wasn’t convinced about the stale old food the fries came, again, zero moisture dried dead fries looking slightly green in colour. I tried one and honestly- the texture wasn’t pleasant. It was stale flakes of dried old potato. Chef didn’t even have time to cook the burgers and prepare the meal if it was all done fresh plus the lack of grease would suggest I'm right about the food being old and dry then reheated.
Jon M — Google review
Very nice bar, very good selection of quality beers. Limited menu but what they do is very good. I had the dirty fries which were pretty good. You get a choice of toppings, I went for katsu chicken. The swaharma salad is very good too. They do other stuff like burgers etc. The food came pretty quickly too. Tucked away off the quayside but well worth a visit. Definitely worth a visit.

Me and my partner always make sure we visit this place when coming up to visit family in Newcastle. Very friendly staff, fantastic atmosphere, great beers and more. We had a meal here not too long ago on a very busy Saturday, and still couldn’t fault the service or delicious food. I’ll make it my mission some day to have one of their sharing boards to myself.
Sebastian T — Google review
The Head Of Steam Quayside stands out for all the right reasons which is no easy feat given there’s hardly a shortage of pubs in Newcastle. Love the interior, plenty of personality and character. The layout is not so cramped that it’s overwhelming, not so spread out that it loses atmosphere, spot on. Not tried the food from here yet so can’t comment on that. Fast and reliable service, good selection of drinks, dog friendly, and in a brilliant location.
Ryan R — Google review
I give this place 5 stars for it's Craft Beer selection in cans and bottles. A great selection of hazys, pales and lagers not to mention a really good selection of Belgium bottles. They even have a nice selection of drafts. Not overly adventurous but still better than the same ol stuff you find everywhere. I didn't eat here but I can whole heartedly recommend it for a place to relax and enjoy a pint. Be it Craft beers, Belgium triples, or drafts.

Kiln is a multifaceted establishment housed in a former industrial brick building, offering a unique combination of pottery studio, coffee shop, restaurant, and bar. The venue serves Middle Eastern brunch featuring freshly made dishes using local ingredients. Guests can enjoy meze dishes like hummus and pita, labneh with olives and pickles, and banana bread followed by various egg dishes.
Kiln is hands down one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve ever had! While it’s a bit outside Newcastle’s city center, it’s absolutely worth the stroll. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and even though it was packed midweek, we managed to snag a seat at the bar without a reservation. Sitting at the bar turned out to be perfect—it made it easy to keep the incredible food coming, and we certainly indulged! Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor, absolutely mouthwatering. I especially loved all the vegetarian options—there was such a great variety, and each one was as delicious as the next. We kept ordering more because everything was so good, and I left feeling completely stuffed in the best way. The staff was wonderfully friendly and attentive without being pushy. At one point, I casually mentioned that I didn’t think there was a dessert menu, but to my delight, there was—and what a dessert it was! The chocolate dessert I had was divine: rich, heavy, and everything a chocolate treat should be. I can’t wait to return someday!

Fantastic meal at Kiln. As quite the foodie I struggle to find great places, with good food and service in Newcastle. My first time down the Ouseburn and Kiln was 10/10. The place is cosy, buzzing atmosphere also loved the cosy fire outside. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The menu isn’t huge but plenty to choose from, food was super tasty. We had the hummus, green labneh, chicken skewers, cucumber salad with tomato, pita and a sea bass. Very good, full of flavour. Would recommended to anyone only thing missing is a decent pudding!

Stopped here for another brilliant breakfast. We'd never had a Pide before, and the softness of the bread with the middle eastern herbs was just so tasty. We also had the steak and eggs, because why not? Well cooked, with great accompanying sauces. Chilled out tunes wafted across the venue, which was warm and toasty.

Really tasty winter brunch in warm cosy restaurant. The service here is always exceptional and the quality of food is very high. Nestled in the Ouseburn Valley, Cook House is a charming bistro housed in two converted shipping containers. Run by Anna Hedworth, also known as the Grazer, this casual eatery offers a delightful menu for breakfast and lunch on weekdays. The cozy interior features eggshell-blue patio furniture and a wood-burning chimney, creating a homely atmosphere.
We visited the Cook house about a month ago. My missus and I are both vegetarian, so we tried pretty much everything off the menu, as they serve small plates. The food was fantastic, really tasty and full of goodness. It’s really nice to have some veggie dishes that are a bit different from everywhere else, made with fresh ingredients, and Paack full of flavour. We went for lunch and it wasn’t too busy when we arrived, it’s highly recommended. Although getting a pram up upstairs was a bit tricky, but one of the waiters helped us. We will definitely be back.

The food is undeniably well cooked, well thought out, nicely presented and I believe locally sourced. There's not much info on the menu I could see though (other than a bakery) advising where the chicken, beef or veg is from, so you just have to go the assumption it is? For me the price point/portion sizes are out of whack, in July 2025 it was £11 for the 2 croquettes pictured. The chicken salad at the same price had the most meagre portion of chicken I have ever seen, it would have equated to a single thigh or a third of a chicken breast. Cookhouse have done incredibly well from their humble origins, all credit to them but I won't be returning as it is overpricing its dishes in my opinion.

We were given a full bottle of prosecco on the table because service was slow but they were on top of that, ordering your next drink when you receive your current one. Very kind staff

What a fantastic bottomless brunch. Service was so quick and prompt throughout our booking. Huge thank you to Acacia for looking after us so well. Will recommend to friends!

On 24/5/25 Akenside Traders hosted my Hen do for 20 women via their bottomless brunch. Nothing was too much for them. The drink flowed seamlessly and the food had huge portions, catered to various dietary requirements and was so tasty. Every woman there commented on how the atmosphere and service was exemplary. The staff were honestly phenomenal and couldn't do enough. Highly recommend this venue and again, thank you to the staff for making my hen do perfection.

This might sound like a paid review but it isn't. We found this pub on a rainy April afternoon after walking for ages looking for a dog friendly establishment. They welcomed the 10 of us with open arms. It was a Wednesday afternoon so it wasn't to busy. Our kids were delighted with the choices they had after one of the staff went to chat to the chef about what they could have. From ordering to having food in front of us room about 20 minutes. Perfect size portions and a fantastic service. The staff went out of the way to show how dog friendly they were, with drinks and treats for both of them. If I had one complaint and its not really a complaint is that the slot machines take away a little of the look to the place. Hope to get back again 1 day and if i could give 6 stars i would. Thank you all.

Very dog friendly, my dog is going to be dog of the week next week on the dog of the week board I'm over the moon. Good pints reasonably priced and excellent food. Ideal way to end my Hadrians Wall walk. Perfect.

Came here for bottomless brunch today and the service was amazing! Couldn’t fault it. We were served by Andy and he was great, service was fast and I think within our two hours we had about 9 cocktails each and the ones we did have were very nice, the Pina Colada’s were our favourite. The food was also very nice too, I got the meat feast pizza and it was a good size and very tasty. Overall had a very positive experience here and would definitely return again because it was well worth the money! Thank you for a great evening :)

The Hancock is a spacious pub known for its popularity among students and features a heated beer garden, pool tables, sofas, and TVs airing live sports. Adjacent to the pub is the Great North Museum: Hancock, which showcases an array of collections from various museums including interactive displays of Hadrian's Wall, diverse exhibits on animal and plant kingdoms, ancient Greek artifacts, Egyptian mummies, a planetarium, and a life-size T-Rex skeleton.
Lovely sunny day and a great beer garden to spend it in. Service from our bartender Amber was great and really friendly. Would definitely recommend if you’re in town and fancy a pint
Chris D — Google review
Quite fond of The Hancock, pretty reliable. Decent interior, large screens, clean and tidy, space is well utilised in terms of tables / seats. Great outdoor area too. Menu has a better variety than most I’d say. Quality of food is what you’d expect from pub grub - lowkey, unpretentious, no bells and whistles, simple and consistent. Sometimes that’s all you need, just a chill, laid back meal with a pint. My go-to is the vegetarian sausage, mash, peas and gravy, with a side of the drunken mushrooms, would also recommend the cheese & jalapeño donuts. My only criticism is that the staff aren’t the friendliest. Really generous happy hours and meal days including Mon-Fri, 5-8pm, £3.25 drinks. Mon-Fri, 12-6pm, meal & soft drink £7.75 (can upgrade to alcoholic drink + £1). I also believe students get a 10% discount, and think you get a complimentary drink if you sign up to their newsletter. Certainly more than most places offer, can’t fault it.

My 22 year old friend with a valid student ID was served 2 drinks without being questioned for ID. On ordering her third drink she realised she had forgotten her ID and calmly accepted she could not be served but wished to remain on the property until her friend had finished her drink (4:30pm). She was then followed outside to where we were sitting for the past hour and aggressively asked to leave the premises. Bar staff were rude and shouted at us as we were having a casual drink in the sun. Disappointed with the lack of consistent rules and how staff belittled me and my friend.
Lara F — Google review
Asked at the bar if they’d be able to put commentary on somewhere for the F1, as they have done before. This time we were just flat refused so we left and went to the Junction instead who were much more helpful.

Thank you for the best Guinness in the lovely out door area. The lovely bar maid saved my bacon by picking up my wallet that I had dropped. We are so very grateful for you kindness and honesty. We will definitely be visiting again! Highly recommended x

We hired the upstairs part of the Hancock pub for my stepson's 21st party , from the first contact to booking the room to us all leaving just after 11pm the staff & manager made sure everything was done to perfection , if possible I would give 100/10 to the whole team who run this amazing establishment. The Hancock is a great place to come for a nice drink & food , the staff are friendly & helpful & ready to make sure your time there is the best ever , all the catering is done the kitchen staff & it shows just how good pub food should be , when the food was being served you could see it had been thought out so well & we were all extremely pleased with every aspect of the buffet from presentation to taste . The atmosphere inside is a very relaxed one & the whole place is a credit to all who work there to make it the success it is . I would have no doubts about booking the Hancock again & would recommend it to anyone who asked what it is like , the biggest of thank you's to all the staff there who made it a great night for us all ♥️♥️♥️♥️🤘🤘🤘🤘🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

If you're a football fan in Newcastle looking for a solid place to catch the game, The Hancock is a brilliant shout. We watched the Leeds v Newcastle match here, and the atmosphere was spot on, lively, passionate, but still friendly. Plenty of big screens around the pub, so no matter where you're sat, you've got a clear view of the action. The crowd was buzzing, especially with the local Newcastle fans in full voice, but there was a mix of supporters and no hassle, jus good banter and shared love of the game. Drinks were well-priced (which is always appreciated), and service at the bar was quick even though the place was packed for the match. We stayed for a couple of hours after full-time and the vibe remained chilled and welcoming. If you’re in the Toon and want to watch live sport with a proper pub crowd, The Hancock is definitely worth checking out. We'll be back for the next match!

Wonderful quaint little spot, comfortably nestled just outside the the city centre. A hidden gem if you will. I was astounded by the vibrant atmosphere and pleasant ambiance effervescing from the very foundations of this establishment. The pizza was imaaculate, the pints were cold and the vibe was well and truly lit my dudes. Clinique's service was second to none, she really pulled out all the stops with the food recommendations and I left with a full stomach and a cheeky buzz on. My word, time to sample the neighbouring museum!

Pub
The Free Trade Inn is a lively waterside venue that specializes in modern beer and cider, offering a rotating selection from independent brewers. Despite its simple decor of distressed wood and graffiti-covered walls, the pub offers stunning views of the Tyne River and delicious pies sourced from the Amble Butcher. With 13 beer pumps featuring both keg and cask options, including real cider, it's a haven for beer enthusiasts looking to discover new breweries.
A few weeks ago I got a message from Mack 4273 suggesting I try this riverside pub, So here I am. Paulicarus spotted a new brewery for me to tick off, Scottish brewery Newbarns from Leith. A 5.2% smokey brown, only a half as too strong for a pre midday drink. 8 real ales on handpump. Followed with a pint of Cullercoats Jack The Devil 4.5% bitter. An L shaped bar with a good size beer garden to the side and a river view terrace to the front. Thankfully the wind off the Tyne is not as arctic today as it was in South Shields yesterday. A CAMRA 2025 Good Beer Guide entry. Also wins awards for the cider. A fridge full of foreign beers as well. Only a 15 minute walk from the Tyne Bridge along the river. Retains the character of a working mans pub. We found it very friendly.
MADDOGLEP — Google review
What an incredible pub! The Free Trade Inn completely lives up to the hype. The atmosphere is effortlessly cool. it's the perfect, unpretentious place to catch up with friends. We managed to grab a spot in the beer garden and the view of the Tyne Bridge and the Quayside is simply unbeatable. It's the best backdrop for a pint in the entire city. The beer selection is fantastic. A great mix of local ales and interesting craft beers, all kept perfectly. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable when we couldn't decide what to order. Love their selection of Kernal beers on my last visit. A truly special pub that feels authentically Newcastle. We'll be back again.
Balefire L — Google review
Excellent little pub just about 1km walking distance from the millenium bridge. Great beer selections, both traditional beers on cask, plenty of taps and cans/bottles, and some of these might even be slightly hyped ones, so there is a really nice mix of beers available. Not sure if they serve food or not, but during my last visit they had a selection of cheese an there was also a food truck located outside. And the views are really nice looking towards the Millenium Bridge. Highly recommend to visit this place!

The best pub we visited on this 4 day trip to Newcastle. We were visiting the UK for 17 days and took a trip up to Newcastle to visit a cousin. Stewart took us to his favorite spots and this one did not disappoint. I had a third pint of the Overnight Oats (9.5%). It was a small hike to get here from the city centre but the view from the beer garden was amazing. On the must visit again list the next time we are in Newcastle.
David S — Google review
Great beer selection, friendly staff all with some terrific views over the river. Highly recommend.
David B — Google review
This has to be one of the best pubs in the UK, let alone Newcastle. Great location with great outdoors areas for when the weather is nice. Incredible selection of beers on cask, keg and can / bottle. They seem to cover all bases from lighter Pale Ales, to IPAs, stouts and sours. Great service.
Calum R — Google review
Proper pub. Didn't have food but everything else was as it should be. Lived in Newcastle for 52 years, first time ive been.
Andrew D — Google review
Looks can be deceiving. Went to meet up with some friends and what a treat. I would suggest a traditional style pub with little in the ways of airs and graces, just a welcoming atmosphere with a great feeling. Difficult to put your finger in it but the staff were efficient and happy to see me, I think! The juke box was an interesting feature as was the curving bar that displayed a wide offering of cask beers, cider and fruit things! Each to their own. Dog friendly with a constant number of humans at the bar I would suggest waiting for the pub quiz on the Wednesday. Venturing outside 2 very pleasant seating areas with the one across the road offering one of the best views down the quayside in to the city. Top photo opportunity when the sun was setting over the town. To top off the night there was a mobile pizza van from Scream for Pizza and whilst I did not partake this evening they my fav with the associated restaurant up there. Appears that they offer a beer and pizza combo, match made in heaven. A definite revisit soon with some more friends.

Nestled in the vibrant Ouseburn area, Gingerino’s Kitchen is a delightful counter-service eatery that specializes in homemade pizzas and calzones. This charming spot on Stepney Road offers a casual dining experience where you can savor authentic stonebaked pizzas, known for their thin and crispy crusts. Whether you're looking to dine in or grab a slice to go, Gingerino's has something for everyone—individual slices and mini calzones are perfect for those seeking lighter bites.
A Newcastle institution slinging the best pizza in town bar none. Walk in and you can get a slice or even a full pizza within 10 minutes. Wonderfully flavourful dough with the right amount of chew, and the perfect balance of topping to dough ratio. I’m told the ‘hep cats’ play their honky tonk records upstairs in their hyper-cool loft space.

Pizza is absolutely delicious and the vibes are amazing. Wish it had more seating options
Toa H — Google review
Been coming here for a good few years with my little girl, she usually loves the pizza here , the last time I went the pizza tasted like it was over cooked left overs from the night before, thought okay, maybe it's a one off, went back again today and my 3 year old could literally not even chew the pizza slice this time. I did make a video of me banging my pizza slice on the plate to show how hard, dry and beyond edible it was but for some reason I could not upload this. It was like her pizza had just been taken out last night's left overs and reheated to an actual crust. Go to Flint and save your money, not impressed and not what it used to be.

Delicious and the price was pretty good too. Takes American Express. Toilet on premises.

First time trying Gingerino's today on my lunch break - what a little treat! I got the meal deal: 2 slices + 1 dip for £7 and it was fab. The pizza was thin, with a lovely chewy crust, perfect with the delicious garlic dip. Service was quick and friendly and the slices were piping hot. I enjoyed that the rocket and parmesan for the pizza came in separate little tubs so that it didn't wilt with the heat. Feeling lucky that this is so close to my office and will definitely be coming again!!
Gemma N — Google review
Ordered 2 slices of Parmesan and rocket pizza, only had few shavings of Parmesan on pizza, may as well of just been a margarita
Carol G — Google review
Staff are friendly and helpful, genuinely canny. The pizza is top tier in regards the crust, it is soft, crispy and chewy all in one. Good range of toppings. New fav pizza gaff. Seating is simple and unfussy, benches upstairs for more generously proportioned people could be a bit risky... Please work out how to do gluten free in your kitchen!
BROON B — Google review
Pizza is excellent. Tastes and looks handmade. I had a calzone. It was crisp with a generous filling. We went mid afternoon so it was quiet.

The Royal Station Hotel is a Victorian styled hotel located in the heart of the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. It has recently undergone a refurbishment and now offers comfortable en-suite bedrooms, a variety of conference facilities, wireless Internet access throughout, swimming pool and fitness area.
Excellent Value and Comfort in a Prime Location We made an opportunistic overnight stop in Newcastle and were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Located right next to the rail station, it offered exceptional value at just £80. The interior decor was stylish and gave a five-star impression. Check-in was smooth, and the customer service was outstanding. Complimentary water and fresh fruit at reception were thoughtful touches. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with tea, coffee, biscuits, a bath, and a shower—everything met a high standard. We dined at the on-site restaurant, and the food exceeded expectations. Both the fish & chips and beef burger were perfectly cooked. Overall, a fantastic stay at a very reasonable price. Would definitely return.

Fantastic place right next door to the train station. Staff on arrival especially Rebecca was amazing. So helpful and informative. Room a little out dated but fine to rest your head. Breakfast was also amazing and great value for money. Didn’t catch the guys name but he looked in charge made us feel very welcome. Over-all a great stay. Thanks guys 🙌

We came to say for our annual mum and son holiday! My six year old absolutely loved staying in a fancy hotel and the fact that he could see the trains coming into the station from our room. Two minute walk from the station too which is great when you come by train. We ate in the restaurant, food was amazing (tapas was so good!) and the staff were really friendly. Lewis and Catherine served us and were super sweet chatting to my son, allowing him time to order for himself and praising his colouring in. Really fantastic service!
Charlie J — Google review
The location is its only benefit. I know that it's an old building, but that should not be an excuse for the state of the room I was in. The wallpaper was bulging from moisture, there was a constant draft from the windows, the ceiling looked like it had sunken down in one place and the room was smelly. One of the nozzles on the bathtub was completely loose. On top of that it was way out of the way, I passed room numbers that were higher than mine on the way to the room and could almost not find it. It was around a corner near a fire exit away from all other rooms. It seems like the hotel isn't reinvesting in keeping its rooms up to par. There were no plugs near the bed (only one by the floor at the end of the bed) so bring a long charging cable for convenience. I used the wellness facilities and found that they were alright, however the spa tub did not work and I wouldn't say the sauna was very warm. It's dilapidated. If you want to use it for exercise it's great but do not expect luxury. I would not recommend staying here, spend a little more on somewhere nicer. As a solo traveller, I would also point out that there are often homeless people right outside the door which can be unsettling as some of them yell and such. I would note that it's a general problem for Newcastle all in all.
Camilla — Google review
Truly excellent value and a charming old hotel. I paid a grand total of £80 for my one night stay, breakfast & full access to the pool & spa / gym. The staff were really kind and professional; Johnathon checked me in and was warm, helpful and thorough, Olivia (same name as me!) did a beautiful job setting my room up for me ahead of schedule and Rebecca checked me out more swiftly than I think anyone ever has (and she was lovely!). Bed was comfortable, room was spacious & clean, shower pressure was good and they have a 24 hour desk- no complaints. Will be back when I'm in Newcastle again :)
Olivia A — Google review
The hotel is a magnificent building and still has old world charm. It is actually connected to the station and everything in the city centre is walkable. The rooms could do with some updating. However, they were spotless thanks to Laura. A reasonable price for a stay in a historic building with great location
Edward W — Google review
I cannot fault this hotel- we had such a memorable and exciting stay here- I definitely recommend it for anyone staying in Newcastle. Above all, the hotel has the friendliest of staff members- everyone we met was extremely kind and eager to help us with anything we needed, from extra towels and extra tea/coffee for our room, to answering all our questions! It’s a beautiful hotel with lovely views of the city and a grand staircase- perfect for photos! The rooms were fantastic with a fridge, perfect for storing picnics for our days out and the rooms also were stocked with coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits etc. and a kettle! The spa was a highlight of our trip- it was lovely to relax there in the evenings. It has a steam room, sauna, plunge pool, jacuzzi and swimming pool with floats and toys. Moreover, the staff there were always kind and welcoming too, providing us with fresh towels and shower gel/body lotion before each swim! We had breakfast everyday at the restaurant, and the buffet was delicious and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating! The location is central, next to the train station, so it was perfect for us as everything was in walking distance. Thank you so much and I can’t wait to return!

I visited Newcastle for several days and wanted to stay in a hotel near Central Station. RSH was a good basic accommodation, offering good value for money. The reception was friendly and helpful. While the exterior of the building is nice architecturally the interior perhaps needs some urgent refurbishment.

Inside, visitors are greeted by an eclectic mix of furniture that exudes a playful and whimsical vibe. The lively atmosphere is filled with friendly banter and laughter, creating an intoxicating blend of mirth and merriment. The pub also boasts a beer garden perfect for enjoying drinks with friends or family.
A super traditional pub a short(ish) walk from the City Centre. Had a gay old time as The Flintstones might say. Super real ale bar. Alic and Booth on their first ever visit. Seems to be trapped between busy roads but people still find it. Large front beer terrace on a less than sunny August evening. Good pint of Stout from local brewery Flying Gang.

Decent little pub and great for sitting in the sun with a drink. The venue itself is relatively small and the majority of the seating is outside...there was spill over onto the lawn on one side. Punters following the sun. I would defo go back.

Wednesday 24th September 2025 This pub is deceptive looking from the outside looks 19oos and inside it is a lot older feel to it It has a unspoilt feeling It has a great frontage outdoor drinking area. The landlord is a gentleman that truly understands real ales. There's 5 spectacular real ales on from locally and in some cases obscure breweries When in Newcastle this pub for real ale drinkers is a must to drink in Go in

We went with our Morris ‘side’ for a get together with many of the other Morris Dance sides in the region . A good night was had by all those dancing and spectating . Food is limited to bar snacks but excellent range of beers and ciders . We were all with friends and enjoying dancing together on a summer’s evening . So atmosphere was great …. Even the ‘civilians’ enjoyed themselves

Can't believe first visit to this pub, reason being where it is located, a bit off track from other pubs. In saying that, it's only a 10 minute walk from Byker metro station. Good old fashioned boozer, with an excellent atmosphere in a good location in Ouseburn. Reasonable selection of drinks and decent prices. When back in Newcastle again, will attempt to walk to Ouseburn and visit again.

Wow, amazing food & taste. A vegan sandwich, crisps & can drink is a meal deal. Sandwich alone was filling. 😋 Also bought a Cappuccino, vegan salad and pesto all for £22.10 which I think is value for money. Well presented food. High-quality ingredients. Great customer service, too. Does vegan, vegetarian, and meat options. Will definitely be back again and soon. Totally recommend. 1 Boyd Steet ,Shieldfield , Newcastle upon Tyne.

Lovely new shop full of goodies . There are some good refillable products which will be great after the initial outlay of the container. There are some tasty products which are a little different so shopping is a pleasurable experience . The flat white was perfect - the milk was exactly the right temperature. If you want to go regularly, avoid Sunday midday as it was very busy - maybe because it has just opened . The staff were polite and friendly - I will definitely be a regular customer .
