Cathedral
Basilica Cattedrale Metropolitana Primaziale San Sabino is a 13th-century Romanesque church located near the Basilica of San Nicola in Bari's old town. The white stone facade adorned with sculptures and intricate details resembles its more famous neighbor. Inside, the cathedral features plain walls punctuated with deep arcades and an eastern window adorned with plant and animal motifs.
We came early, Basilica was empty, peacfull and beautifull. Also visited the museum, rather a smaller one, but nice. Took us 25min for both places and would recomend going, if you around.
Peter P — Google review
Such a fascinating place to visit. Make sure you go to the crypt and tour the excavation site, where you can see part of an old Roman road. Also some beautiful mosaic floor that they have excavated.
Irene E — Google review
Not the most ornate cathedral I've seen but the crypt underground is amazing. Unearthed buildings that were there before the cathedral with lavis mosaic floors
Paul M — Google review
Beautiful cathedral. Too shame that, like most religious places in Italy, they find a way to charge people. The main church is free but you need to pay to visit the underground crypt €3-€7 Lots of other churches in the same area that are free
Loucas I — Google review
A very beautiful historical church, a must visit if first time in Bari.
Sami S — Google review
Romanesque gem in Bari’s Old Town. Elegant white stone façade with a beautiful rose window and carved lintel of mythical beasts. Inside, three naves divide into 16 slender columns and arcades—simple yet powerful. The crypt holds the relics of Saint Sabinus and the ancient Madonna Odegitria icon. Quiet, spiritual, and steeped in history: a must‑visit beyond the more crowded Basilica.
Łukasz H — Google review
Basilica Cattedrale Metropolitana Primaziale San Sabino is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture and a true spiritual landmark. The cathedral’s interior is serene, featuring beautiful artwork, intricate stone carvings, and a peaceful ambiance perfect for reflection. The structure is well-preserved, showcasing centuries of history and devotion. Visitors are captivated by its grandeur, sacred atmosphere, and cultural significance — a must-visit for history, art, and faith enthusiasts alike.

Castle
Castello Svevo di Bari, also known as the Swabian-Norman castle, has a rich history dating back to its original construction in 1131 by Ruggero the Norman. Destroyed in 1156 and later rebuilt in 1223 under Frederick II of Swabia, the castle overlooks the old city of Bari and commands stunning views of the sea. It holds significant historical value and is considered one of Italy's most important Romanesque style monuments.
I enjoyed the time in the castle but need to say that this was not my favourite castle that I ever visited. What I miss the most is the panoramic view of the neighborhood. Entrance fee: 10 eur per adult
Ewelina B — Google review
I always look forward to visiting castles, but this one was disappointing, especially for the 10 euros ticket. The castle is currently under renovation and only the ground floor is accessible. While the exhibited artifacts are in great condition the things to see overall are very few, the whole visit 20-30 minutes.
Marilena — Google review
A large part of the castle is either being renovated, still being dug up or used for conferences. The resulting visit consists of two rooms with video presentations which while well done, do get a bit slow and boring. One room of pottery shards and one of “immersive projections”. Did not feel entertaining or interesting enough for the ticket fee. Admittedly one of the few big things to see in bari - schedule 30-45mins for this if you visit.
Rugile N — Google review
The castle is a fascinating place to explore. While much of the space seems austere and blank, the curators have done a wonderful job of using audio visual tools to augment the experience. There is tremendous history here and many fascinating things to enjoy. Well worth the €10 price.
Kitchen B — Google review
Entrance year was free. Don’t ask me why. Sorry guys. But even if we would have had to pay the 10 euro it would have defy been worth it. It’s such a cool castle and we’ve seen quite a few now. Love the videos depicting life long ago. Getting to see the archaeological areas was cool. Too bad you can’t go on the wall and get a good view of the city.
Diana M — Google review
Octagonal castle 1 hour drive away from Bari city center. Very plain, 8 bare rooms inside with 44 steps to top. The outside vantage view of the lands is nice but not worth the visit.
EH — Google review
A really great castle, it has many rooms and also some places with some examples how people live here in past. Also a little presentation on wall - history of Bari and surroundings. The entrance fee 10€ was worth it. ( they gave discount for young people 18-25 - 2€ fee) Also they have toilets there. We were there almost 2 hours.
Simona M — Google review
The castle is worth visiting, if only for Queen Bona Sforza. The presentations on the history of the castle itself and the city of Bari are very interesting.

Nestled beneath the stunning Bari Cathedral lies the Museo del Succorpo della Cattedrale di Bari, a treasure trove of ecclesiastical and cultural history that beckons to all who are curious about the past. This captivating museum showcases an extensive array of artifacts that chronicle Bari's evolution from ancient times to today. A highlight for history enthusiasts is the crypt, where you can pay homage to the revered remains of Saint Nicholas and Saint Sabinus amidst breathtaking medieval architecture and sculptures.
A very atmospheric place with an authentic historical vibe. The place is big and super worth the visit. The ticket to the museo is included in the ticket to the cathedral (nine euro).
Kristýna V — Google review
A hidden gem well worth a visit! A bit hard to find: go down on the right-hand side stairs towards the crypt inside the cathedral, and look to the left. Surprisingly large site!
Bálint P — Google review
Just to see and be there is a thrill of the past. Will only take Italian money so come prepared. Just seeing part of the road to Rome was exciting. Worth the trip Bari is a beautiful place to visit
Carol D — Google review
This is worth a visit but not easy to find. First enter the cathedral and then go down the stairs to the right of the altar towards the crypt. Before entering the crypt, there's a small door on the left with a metal gate. If you are lucky, there will be someone there to take your money and let you in. This door isn't always manned even when the Succorpo is technically open. But the ruins and reconstruction are fascinating and the signs are in both Italian and English.
Debbie B — Google review
Once again a great bit of history in this wonderful city.

Incredible, several layers of churches from BC and AD… a must see!

I thought I was buying tickets for the archeological museum, it turned out they are just for the museum (gallery which honestly is not interesting at all). So if you want to see the archeological part you need to buy a full ticket which is ok but something I did not understand at the time.

This is a nice and relaxed pub with good vibes. The staff are friendly and the drinks are fairly priced. They have a large selection of board games for you to borrow for free, as well as a smoking area which is not too unpleasant. The music is amazing and can be enjoyed by both young and old alike.
Nice place with good drinks! Cocktails cost only 5 eur!

Smoking area doesn't have a good ventilation. The glasses were not clean, had a lipstick stain. They don't have some items in the menu, like piña colada which is not a very hard cocktail to make. They charge 1 extra euro for "sitting" which is ridiculous since the place was empty. I also didn't like to vibe.
Cemre — Google review
Typical bar with good vibes. Drinks are fairly priced, food not sooo much but didn't get a chance to try it. Has a large selection of bard games that can be borrowed for 1 euro each. Theres a smoking area which is nasty, but what can you do.

Lp atmosphere for aperitivo, i went there with my friends and we enjoy our time.. Unfortunately they don't have fresh juice.. So healthy people who's nonalcoholic will find a diffeculity to choose a drink, but other than that everything is very nice, the staff is very kind, and the location is in very center of Bari also food is great 😊

A great place. Nice people, very good food and big choice about wine and drinks. Music, videos, table games and a lot of space to find your best one inside or outside. An experience to do in case you're in the neighborhood of.

At least I don't know other bars which stays opened after midnight in Bari, so no doubt taverna is the best place for hangout. It's right next to university so many young people here, the inside is spacious and relaxing, beers and foods are good. They also got free WI-FI internet and everyone is welcomed to use it !

Diana is a popular spot that offers great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Despite the long lines, the service is efficient and friendly. It's recommended for those looking to avoid touristy areas. The octopus bun and piadine are particularly delicious, while the pizzas also look appealing. The menu includes a variety of options such as focaccia, specialty fries, pizza, and sandwiches.
The food is amazing (we ate different kind of focaccia, some specialty fries, pizza and sandwiches)! The staff is really kind and warm, we are several times at Diana!🫶🏼

We were there in August and getting super anyway in the center of Bari seemed impossible, so we ended up getting two panzerotti and an arancino to go. Very attentive service despite the crowds. The food was okay.

Nestled within the serene landscape of Modugno, the Sanctuary of Madonna della Grotta is a historical gem that dates back to the 11th century, originally serving as a Benedictine Abbey. This sacred site holds significant spiritual value, believed to be where San Corrado Bavaro once resided as a hermit. Visitors can marvel at stunning fourteenth-century frescoes and an exquisite sculptural group from the same era depicting the Pieta.

(Translated by Google) SanctuaryThe Ancient Sanctuary is also an archaeological site protected by the Fine Arts which oversaw its restoration in 1993-94. It was brought to light when the Rogationist Fathers purchased it in 1974. Through excavations they rediscovered the historical and religious value of the place called "S. Maria in Crypta" restoring its cult and the value of traces such as the mosaic floor, two tombs, three frescoes and the tunnel of S. Corrado. The traces present in the rock church are attributable to the presence of the Benedictine monks present until 1303, and of S. Corrado Bavaro, a Cistercian hermit (1105-1127) who lived for two years in solitude near the cave and was buried there until the beginning of 1300. Now the religious founded by S. Annibale Maria di Francia (Messina 1851-1927) take care pastorally the Sanctuary and promote Marian worship and Prayer for Vocations. Well done Father Mario for guiding us and welcoming us (Original) SantuarioL'Antico Santuario è anche sito archeologico tutelato dalle Belle Arti che ne ha curato il restauro nel 1993-94. Ora i religiosi fondati da S. (Translated by Google) I have seen dozens of sanctuaries and hermitages around Italy and I certainly didn't expect to find one behind my house.. A place steeped in spirituality and history... the first structure dates back to the 9th-10th century, with the abbey above which I believe dates back to the 19th century. The small church, dug into the rock, even features part of the original frescoes, with an extremely low tunnel that connects it to the cave that was a hermitage for San Corrado, who found his burial here before the bones were moved to Molfetta, where they are currently located. The tomb is now covered in marble and closed forever under the pews of the church... It is also possible to visit what was the "room" of the saint, in which he died at the young age of 22/23 years. I recommend coming here, at least for a few minutes and regardless of your beliefs, to enjoy peace and silence... incredibly (and perhaps unfortunately) just a few steps away from the chaos of the city. I thank the fathers who take care of maintaining this place as it should be maintained, both physically and spiritually and I also thank them for sharing the history of this beautiful place. A presto

Out of the tourist circuit of the city, this place is part of the real Bari. Nice music and good drinks and beers, comfy environment and Tony (the guy behind the bar), is really nice. Good service, good music, good drinks and friendly prices, birreria antifascista. Five stars!

B&B Bari Old Town offers simply decorated rooms in an unpretentious guesthouse with a rooftop terrace. Located in the ancient part of the city, known as Bari vecchia, it perfectly blends contemporary and traditional elements. The old residential area, once considered dangerous, is now the heart of Bari's nightlife with pubs, restaurants, and wine bars coexisting with the local environment.
The B&B is situated on the border between new town and old town, and gives a perfect starting place for any adventures around Bari. The owner gave us a warm greeting on arrival and was very helpful with getting us acquainted to the B&B. The room was clean and well presented with homely touches. Bed was very comfortable! Slept well all 4 nights of the stay. Breakfast was served each morning on the beautiful rooftop terrace, and I left feeling relaxed and full each morning. Would absolutely recommend staying here!

San Nicola is undoubtedly the crown jewel of Bari, drawing visitors from all corners to marvel at its historical and architectural splendor. This basilica, dedicated to St. Nicholas, took nearly a century to complete, with construction spanning from 1087 to 1197. Inside, you'll find an array of stunning features including a magnificent marble bishop's throne and the altar of Madonna with Saints that showcase exquisite craftsmanship. The crypt houses a silver altar that adds an air of reverence to this sacred space.

This pharmacy overcharges a LOT. They also will not provide a receipt, so it’s pretty shady. Sometimes they are the only pharmacy open so I think they take advantage of that when people really need something. Needed something for my child that was about €5 on the Internet and they charged me €30.

(Translated by Google) The complex of the church and convent of Santa Chiara was originally born from a church built in the 13th century by the Knights of the Teutonic Order, dedicated to S. Maria degli Alemanni when, under the domination of the Swabians, the presence of Germans in Bari significantly increased. The current name dates back to 1492 when the church was entrusted to the nuns of the Order of Santa Chiara who built a monastery. After various vicissitudes and with the formation of the Kingdom of Italy, it was used as a military barracks. The building was just outside the city walls which were demolished at that point between the 19th and 20th centuries together with the upper part of the bell tower. Currently, the former Convent has been used to house the headquarters of the Superintendency.

Nestled in the heart of Bari, the Church of Saint John Chrysostom is a hidden gem that captures the essence of Byzantine Catholicism. This charming little church has been lovingly cared for by Father Antonio, a kind-hearted priest who dedicated his life to keeping its doors open for worshippers, even during challenging times. The air inside is filled with the familiar scents of incense and Lebanese cedar, evoking memories for many who have visited over the years.
This church was faithfully nourished for many years by father Antionio, a wonderfully kind and dear priest who would open the doors of the church even when in bad health and just a few of us, to light candles, pray, bless and worship liturgically. Each time we visited Bari, We would call for him out loud his window in the humble domicile he lived in above the church and when times he heard he would come down and we would have nice conversation then pray with him. We heard he went to the Lord August 2024 and miss him very much. A true light of blessing we are sure you will still sense in this ancient and beautiful icon humble small church. You have to visit and spend time with our Christ and God here. It can leave a deep impression on you if you go in with reverence and reflection. Historical note in the press: “If, as many historians believe, it was actually to be identified with the Church of St. John the Baptist, its original structure would have been built around 1032 and would have first hosted the relics of St. Nicholas as we read in the Legend of Kiev relating to the translation of St. Nicholas: "... They saw the people of Bari who were arriving with the relics of St. Nicholas from Myra, and all the citizens came out to meet them, men and women, from children to adults, with candles and incense burners, and welcomed them with joy and great honor; and they placed them in the church of St. John the Forerunner by the sea".”

Three parish priests succeeded: papas Giuseppe Ferrari, papas Samenco and papas Antonio Magnocavallo, still parish priest today. (Translated by Google) A beautiful church, very large and bright. Unfortunately it is without a soul. It is a place of religion but not of faith: You can't go to a Mass, in my case at 6.30pm on a Saturday, and it starts 10 minutes late because the children from catechism have to arrive. And even more, I who chose that celebration to avoid distractions, left because the commentary on the Gospel, which interested me very much, was made for the little ones. Which is a praiseworthy thing if it weren't for the fact that even on Sundays at 10 am people choose this path. In the end, which mass should I go to if even the last one risks distracting events? Furthermore, and I would like someone reading this review to intervene, again in the Saturday Mass I am referring to, it is not possible for those accompanying the children to literally start jumping left and right, waving their arms without composure to lead the singing. Come on guys, let's make an effort. Let us return to God what is God's. (Original) Una bella chiesa, molto ampia e luminosa.

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a splendid place of worship that I had the pleasure of visiting for the first time during a couple's 25th wedding anniversary celebration. The church itself possesses remarkable beauty, and the sermon delivered was truly captivating. What impressed me greatly was the gracious gesture by the parish priest who kindly made the back garden available to both celebrants and guests alike for their merriment.
Very pretty and modernly decorated building. The priest wore a beautiful chasuble that seemed very bright and modern. I have walked past many times and even listened to concerts outside. Today was the first time I entered and it was very pleasant. The congregation seems quite shy though, but I shall pray for them. The mass given was beautiful and the sermon kept me on the edge of my pew and brought me to tears. We do indeed need to look out for our priests and those who shepherd us.

The Church of Saint George 'degli Armeni' is a historic religious site located in the heart of Venice. It is known for its beautiful Armenian architecture and rich cultural significance. Visitors can explore the peaceful interior, adorned with ornate decorations and a sense of tranquility.

(Translated by Google) By Wikipedia Background It seems to have been erected by the Armenian Mosese, according to what we read in the Barese Diplomatic Code of 1005 and 1210 (cited as S. Giorgio di Martiri, or degli Armeni). According to the dating proposed by Melchiorre, the church dates back to the 11th century. Not to be confused with the church of San Giorgio degli Armeni which was located in the Corte del Catapano, in the area where the Basilica of San Nicola stands. Some scholars, including Lavermicocca, believe that the church erected by Armenian Mosese is the latter and not the one outside Bari in the San Giorgio district. Also Licinio and Porsia in the History of Bari. From the Origins to the Thousand keep the two churches distinct: the extra moenia was called San Giorgio Martire, while the intra moenia is mentioned in the Bari diplomatic code as San Giorgio degli Armeni or San Giorgio al porto. This denomination should remove any doubts about the location of the church in the Catapano court. A plaque placed inside informs us of some alterations dating back to 1920, the work of Nicola Scattarelli, which have compromised its original appearance as described by Mongiello, with the addition of decorative stucco. Perhaps it is to be identified with a church mentioned in the Barese Diplomatic Code called S. Giorgio di Pappaciliazio (1290, 1314).

(Translated by Google) The church dates back to the 11th century and is one of the oldest still surviving in the city. Survivor so to speak. Not only is the exterior not in the best condition, but the worst is that the interior, robbed of everything that could be taken away, has over time become a furnace used to burn tyres. With the result that the precious fresco representing the Saint to whom the church is named was seriously damaged. Only then did the superintendency force the owners of the land, and therefore of the church, to wall up the entrances; which is why today it can only be visited from the outside. However, on the back it is still possible to visit the adjoining farmhouse, which is also in far from optimal conditions. Let's hope sooner or later it will be recovered and restored properly. Its historical value would impose it on us.

The Church of Saint Nicholas is an ancient church located in the Carbonara district of Bari. The parish priest, Don Mario, is known for his modern mentality and lighthearted spirit, which have endeared him to the faithful. Visitors describe the church as a place where words cannot capture its essence and recommend experiencing its mystical atmosphere firsthand. The early 1900s structure is described as small, welcoming, and well-maintained.
