Sacred & Religious Sites
Wat Phnom Daun Penh is a captivating Buddhist temple that stands as the tallest religious structure in Phnom Penh, with its origins dating back to 1373. This iconic site is steeped in legend, particularly the tale of a wealthy woman named Penh who discovered four bronze Buddha statues floating down the Mekong River. To honor these sacred relics, she constructed an artificial hill—Phnom—which ultimately gave the city its name.
Lovely temple / park that only costs $1 per person to enter. Highly recommend adding this temple to your things to do in Phnom Penh. The park also has a lovely cafe / souvenir shops inside - loads of lovely statues and wooden figurines.
Augustas J — Google review
The price is $1 for foreigners. The place is pleasant to walk around, you can get to the temple at the top. Many sculptures to admire! Can be done in less than 1 hour.
Yukima — Google review
A visit to Cambodia has to include thus amazing site - absolutely stunning, and my second visit. Some 19/20 years on there is little change - other than the amount of tourists !! Seeing the sunrise behind the temple is superb, but arriving at any time is just as good. Allow at least a couple of hours to walk round, climb the steps to look across the temple, meet local people etc there's toilets on site, local stalls, food etc. There are numerous other temples well worth visiting around here. Beautiful, peaceful surroundings with an amazing history.
Polly W — Google review
This is a Buddhist temple in the centre of Phnom Penh on top of a small hill. You can get great views of the city from here. Wat Phnom has a height of 46 meters. The pagoda is named after Lady Penh from the story of the discovery of the four Buddha statues and one Vishnu statue. There are a stupa, pagoda and temple at the site
CK C — Google review
Beautiful temple to visit while in Phnom Penh. The price of entry for foreigners is only $1 per person and definitely worth the price. The grounds are beautiful and not over crowded. Definitely recommend drinking plenty of water as there is a moderate hill to climb to get to the temple. Overall, one of the best attractions visited while in Phnom Penh.

Sights of Relics that will have you amazed and the gift shop is very awesome too. The tour guide are great at what they do so if you need one,one will be provided to give a glimpse of history.
Dara K — Google review
It is worth a visit to Wat Phnom if you are in central Phnom Penh. It is the starting for all major highways in Cambodia as well as the legendary origin stories of our city. Even the name Phnom Penh, literally "the hill of Lady Penh", reinforces the centrality of Wat Phnom, as this pagoda is the hill that Lady Penh built to honour 4 Buddhist statues that miraculous floated down the river to her. Whether you believe the stories or not, come see the altars dedicated to Lady Penh adjacent to a Buddhist temple (a nice mixing of Buddhism and traditional shamanism). The pagoda grounds also feature a statue representing the return of Battambang and Siem Reap from Thailand to Cambodia, a reminder that the current Thai-Khmer problems are certainly not the first instance of friction between the two nations. Pro Tip There are a lot of cultural performances in the pagoda stage so check the schedule to see if anything is going on during your visit. Also, during Khmer New Year in April, this pagoda is the epicenter of music, dancing and water fighting for the whole of PP.
Sinay's R — Google review
Great place to see the form of their worship here. I love the detail of it all. Notice the acorn shaped urns were actually made of many Reil bills. The gold covering whether leaf or paint was everywhere. It's a lot more interesting than some of the more monochrome architecture you see in the west. Be sure to take your hat off and shoes when you enter out of respect.

The Royal Palace, a stunning palace complex established between 1866 and 1870, is an essential stop for anyone visiting Cambodia. Nestled along the banks of the Chaktomuk River, this architectural gem showcases exquisite Khmer design with subtle French influences. As you wander through its expansive grounds, you'll encounter significant structures like the vibrant Throne Hall and the enchanting Moonlight Pavilion, where traditional Khmer dance performances captivate visitors.
Quite spectacular. Awesome palace complex. Each building tells of architectural beauty aesthetic finish. The entire place remains in memory as if etched in stone. The only sad fact was that we could not get inside the palace. Another disappointment was the lack of permission to take photos inside the Silver Pagoda.
Dr G — Google review
There were barely any people, which made it peaceful to walk around, but several areas were closed off or restricted, so it felt like I didn’t get to see much. Honestly, I was expecting a lot more. Finding the entrance was confusing and to make it worse, there are tuk-tuk drivers outside who try to trick you by saying the palace is closed, just to sell you a sightseeing tour instead. There wasn’t anything truly spectacular that stood out to me. For the $10 entry fee, I’m not sure it’s worth it, especially when compared to the much grander Royal Palace in Bangkok.
Karthik B — Google review
We visited this palace on our first day in the city. Amazing site, so different to anything else you might have experienced before. Stunning colours, history and art. Life here is so diverse, wealth and abject poverty, vibrant colours and mud/litter. The palace certainly portrays a very affluent acceptance in a country with so many living with so little.
Polly W — Google review
Be careful. Everywhere says it closes at 5pm but they stop visitors FROM ENTERING at 4pm to allow everyone currently on the grounds to be OUT BY 5 pm. This caught me off guard - but still returned the next day as they open very early at 8pm :). Beautiful grounds, temples, pagodas, and shrines. Don’t skip over the artwork all along the inner wall of the Silver Pagoda area - very interesting and not highlighted.
Tyler B — Google review
Stunning, magnificent and beautiful palace complex. The palace was first constructed by King Norodom between 1866 and 1870; but was largely demolished and rebuilt between 1912 and 1932. The palace's architecture is a mix of traditional Khmer design and French architectural influence, as seen in the gilded roofs, high spires, intricate carvings, and a layout that reflects both grandeur and harmony with nature. Gorgeous
CK C — Google review
I smelled urine around the walls. Many Cambodians liked to park their motorbikes and urinate on the palace walls. The back, where no one took pictures, was covered with zinc. The interior architecture was not beautiful at all. It was obvious that it copied Thai culture. I don't recommend visiting here. If you want to see real culture, go to the Grand Palace in Bangkok.
Tanat K — Google review
Impressive buildings, but unfortunately most of them are closed to visitors, so you can only see them from the outside. There’s also little to no tourist information available to explain their history or significance. Overall, that makes the experience feel a bit overpriced.
Eduarda — Google review
I visited the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh and really enjoyed it. The ticket costs $10 USD for foreigners, and I think it’s worth the price. If you are visiting the city, this place is a must-see! The buildings are very beautiful, with golden roofs and amazing designs. If you like art, history, or architecture, you will enjoy it even more. The Silver Pagoda inside is also very impressive. It’s also a great place to take nice photos, especially for Instagram. The whole area is clean, peaceful, and full of culture. I loved the visit and I highly recommend it to anyone coming to Phnom Penh!

Monuments & Statues
Independence Monument, a 20-meter tower located at the intersection of Norodom Blvd and Sihanouk Blvd, was unveiled in 1962 to commemorate Cambodia's independence from France. Shaped like a lotus flower, it is best viewed from the park to the west. Adjacent to it is the Norodom Sihanouk Memorial, housing a bronze statue of King Norodom Sihanouk.
The Independence Monument is an iconic landmark in Phnom Penh, symbolizing Cambodia’s freedom from colonial rule. The intricate design and stunning architecture make it a must-see, especially at night when it’s beautifully lit. The surrounding park offers a peaceful spot to relax, making it a great place to visit for both history and scenery.
Markéta J — Google review
There is a long strip leading up to the monument that is in the roundabout. It is a nice area to walk around, gets very busy at night with people walking around and kids roller blading. It’s amazing how many independent statues there are along south east Asia all commending there freedom from the French.
Sup_Lick — Google review
The Independence Monument in Phnom Penh is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 1958 to celebrate Cambodia’s independence from French colonial rule, it stands tall and proud in the center of a busy roundabout — shaped like a lotus flower, inspired by Angkor Wat architecture. While you can’t go inside, it’s still worth stopping by — especially during the day when the area is calmer and traffic lighter. At night, it’s beautifully lit, but also more crowded. There’s a nice park area around it where locals relax, jog, or sit in the shade. A good photo spot, a piece of history, and a peaceful moment in the middle of Phnom Penh’s buzz.
JOKER'S — Google review
The Independence Monument is an iconic structure that stands as a symbol of Cambodia's independence from French rule. The monument itself is beautifully designed and is especially stunning when lit up at night. It’s located in a busy part of the city, surrounded by traffic, but the area around it is clean and well-maintained. There are parks nearby where you can relax and take in the views. However, it's mainly a spot for quick photos rather than a place to spend a lot of time. Worth a visit if you're exploring the city, but don’t expect much beyond its historical significance.
Sai V — Google review
The Independence Monument is a tall, beautiful structure shaped like a lotus flower.I think this monument is truly special. Why visit it? It shows a big part of Cambodia's history and pride. It looks amazing to see, especially when it lights up brightly at night.
Ren T — Google review
Beautiful scenery and building at night! Went on a Sunday night, and there was only a man sleeping within the monument. It's really worth the view, but just be careful when crossing the road to the monument, especially some cars and tuk tuks may drive quite fast.
Vincent T — Google review
It's a historical site with great Khmer genuinely architectural design for visit.
Judy T — Google review
It's an iconic monument in Phnom Penh at the centre of a very busy traffic roundabout. There's a lovely park which you can walk alongside see locals exercising and enjoying the space. Tip, if you visit around dusk you can get some amazing photos facing west as the day comes to a close and the light is beautiful.

Phnom Penh Night Market is a bustling hub of activity, offering a wide array of goods such as fabrics, jewelry, and crafts alongside delectable Khmer street food. Located on the riverfront near downtown Phnom Penh, this market is a popular attraction for both locals and tourists. Open only during weekends, it provides an opportunity to experience the local way of life while enjoying evening entertainment and sampling delicious local cuisine.
It was lots of fun to see people dancing, singing and lots of local food. It's really surprising and this happens every weekend. A must go if you're in Phnom Peh
Marcushugo — Google review
Very lively place. The stalls offer nice clothes, souvenirs and accessories. I loved the plaza were carpets were laid out so all the visitors could sit down on the ground with their drinks and snacks. Kids were playing around. There were very good vibes.
Asmara T — Google review
Lots of typical market items here to buy, didn't find any of the staff pushy at any point. Enjoyed the food section with dinner options and fruit juices, can eat together in a groups on the mats around. This market is close to the promenade and busy drinking area. Not too busy in the early evening. There was some live music as well.
Lucy B — Google review
I think got nothing much in the night market in term of items for shopping. Just enjoy the vibes here where many people, a lot of food stalls, there are people dancing and the strategic location. At night they will close the road along the river to become a walking street. There are many shops, pubs, and restaurant available at this area. Nothing much in the night market
Hafizun M — Google review
There were stall which sell clothes and souvenirs but we came here for the food. Reasonable price (even-though I thought the price was higher compare to other street food in Indochina ie Bangkok or Hanoi). The menu quite the same between one and another food stall. We ended up choose pad thai and soup. After dinner we walked around to see local people sand with karaoke in the middle of the market
Agtifa P — Google review
Frankly quite small and disappointing. Most of the stalls sell repeated stuffs. Like shoes and bags. There arent much souvenir stores here. Honestly central market would be so much better to go to.
SL W — Google review
We loved the markets and trying all different foods. Go, try something you haven’t tried before and enjoy taking in your surroundings.

Market
Central Market in Phnom Penh is a vibrant hub of local culture and commerce. The ochre-colored art-deco building, dating back to 1937, houses a bustling street food scene and a variety of stalls selling everything from fresh seafood and poultry to fruits, clothing, souvenirs, flowers, and household items. Visitors can also explore shops offering more upscale items like watches and jewelry.
Nice market selling everything from food to homewares and tourist tat. Needed a glasses case, a new holdall and super glue and found it all here. Stall holders will point you in the right direction if they don't have it. Lovely building and not as hog as other markets
Carol — Google review
Probably the most iconic market in Phnom penh. If you ask me, id say it a must come. Theres so many things to see and buy. Souvenirs, shirts bags watches, even their currency. You can easily spend an hour here walking.
SL W — Google review
Went here to do last minute shopping. The market is big, clean, organized and not confusing. The environment is not hot as other markets in this town. There are a lot of items available from souvenir, shirts, watch, food, hair service, tailor and so on. The price here can be bargained, the seller is friendly and kind. Shootout to this one booth that sells souvenir for giving me a mega discount. For those who want to come shopping here please stop by her shop D-033, she is very nice and kind. Can speak Malay as well. Guarantee you a satisfying shopping experience.
Hafizun M — Google review
This crispy baby prawns with pepper lime sauce are seriously really amazing. You can find them on the wet market side. The bread stall across from the Hakse phone shop is my go-to every time I visit. Pairing it all with a refreshing sugar cane juice or coconut juice is a must.
Janez Y — Google review
A busy and vibrant market selling all kinds of knick knacks, food, clothes, daily necessities, religious artifacts and even local titbits such as deep fried spiders, scorpions and insect pupae. Interesting place to visit, easy to spend hours browsing at the mind-boggling array of products
CK C — Google review
It's got to be done !! Just keep heading back to the centre if you feel you're losing track of where you are !! A real cultural shock on arrival if you've not had one of these 'experiences ' previously !! Great, diverse stalls, from fruit and veg, to underwear, to fresh fish, meat, souvenirs and anything inbetween !! Try some bartering, try fresh coconut and thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere. There's very little hard sell, the Cambodian marketeers want to make a living, but they're certainly not too pushy or rude, quite the opposite.
Polly W — Google review
Well worth a visit, there is so much to see you almost end up with whiplash Everything imanigable is laid out for sale, the best things as a tourist are the local fruit and vegetables, fish and meats. We even filled out some surveys for the local student's regarding tourism.
Alan H — Google review
Worth a visit. The architecture is admirable & the market is actually very spacious even it didn’t seem to be from the outside. Everything could be found in this market- restaurants, salons, clothes, jewelleries, electronics… You could easily spend an hour there

Nestled in the heart of Phnom Penh, Wat Langka stands as a vibrant and intricate Buddhist pagoda adorned with gilded accents. This temple is not only a spiritual haven but also an active center for meditation, offering free sessions led by resident monks several times a week. Established in 1442 by Ponhea Yat, it originally served as a library for Buddhist scriptures and has since evolved into an important gathering place for both locals and monks.
Wat Langka, one of Phnom Penh’s oldest pagodas, was established in 1442. This serene temple, located near the Independence Monument, serves as a sanctuary for Buddhist teachings and a meditation center. Its beautiful Khmer architecture, tranquil gardens, and rich history make it a must-visit. Despite the turmoil of the Khmer Rouge era, Wat Langka remained untouched, preserving its spiritual and cultural significance.
Soneat H — Google review
Visiting Wat Langka Pagoda sounds like a wonderful idea! It's great that there's no entry fee, and its proximity to the Independence Monument makes it a convenient stop. Enjoy the serene atmosphere and the cultural experience in the heart of Phnom Penh. Don't forget to explore the surroundings as well – you might discover more hidden gems in the area.
Ramesh K — Google review
A lovely buddhist temple sitting at the heart of Phnom Penh. Monks actively live and practice here. Entrance is free but please be quiet while roaming the temple ground to avoid distracting the people in prayer.
Dyan S — Google review
A quiet temple in the middle of the city, free of entrance. The temple is located within a monastery. There are active Buddhist monks living there. It's little place of calm and relaxing in the otherwise buzzing city. Dress appropriately of course: covered shoulders.
Sam B — Google review
I had the pleasure of visiting Wat Langka during my recent trip to Cambodia, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. This beautiful temple is steeped in history and culture, and it was amazing to see all of the intricate details and artwork that make it so unique. The temple grounds are peaceful and serene, and the lush greenery that surrounds the temple creates a wonderful atmosphere that is perfect for meditation and reflection. The architecture of the temple is simply breathtaking, with stunning carvings and decorations that showcase the incredible skill of the artisans who created them. The highlight of my visit to Wat Langka was definitely the opportunity to speak with some of the monks who live and work there. They were so welcoming and friendly, and I learned so much about their way of life and the teachings of Buddhism. It was a truly enlightening experience that I will never forget. Overall, I cannot recommend Wat Langka highly enough. Whether you are a history buff, a culture lover, or simply looking for a peaceful place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, this temple is definitely worth a visit. It is a five-star attraction that truly deserves all of the praise it has received!

Wat Langka is a beautiful and peaceful Buddhist temple located in the heart of Phnom Penh. The temple's stunning architecture and intricate details make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Cambodian culture and history. I enjoy the serene atmosphere of the temple's courtyards and gardens, as well as admire the impressive collection of Buddhist artifacts and statues on display. The temple is also a popular spot for meditation and spiritual retreats, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to connect with their inner selves in a tranquil and serene environment. Overall, Wat Langka is a truly beautiful and inspiring place that should not be missed when visiting Phnom Penh.
Simon H — Google review
The purpose why we went there was to attend mediation with the monks but there was none when we arrived. Nevertheless I will give it 3 stars because going there is free. No entrance fee. They have this time to meditate with the monks on selected days. If I am not mistaken, MONDAYS-SATURDAYS 5pm to 7pm. Sorry, I forgot to write down the schedule. No meditation on Sunday. We went there Sunday so we had no luck. Anyway, the architecture is beautiful. It's just near Independence Monument so if you have spare time you can just stop by to have a picture taken and continue with the rest of your tour.

Wat Langka is near Independence Monument. This is a small pagoda with a very nice Buddhist temple inside. There is not much to see for locals. There is no entry fee so why not visit one more temple if you are touring around the city.

Nestled in the heart of the city, the Russian Market is a vibrant hub brimming with culinary delights. As you wander through its lively atmosphere, you'll discover a central food court teeming with an array of small stalls offering tantalizing options. From refreshing fruit smoothies and aromatic Khmer coffee to hearty noodles, rice dishes, soups, and fresh salads, there's something to satisfy every palate.
Absolutely amazing in every sense of the word. The Russian Market is a large indoor space with various narrow, maze-like corridors filled with mysterious shops, each capable of keeping you entertained for a while. From second-hand stores to wooden products, paintings, household items, and things like traditional spoons, cups, and more (I myself bought a beautiful pair of wooden chopsticks). Outside this indoor area, there’s a street market selling vegetables and fruits that is truly astonishing. Very cheap and visually stunning. I tasted a few new fruits at this market, bought them right there, and ate them. The people are kind, and everything is incredibly affordable.

Preah Sisowath Quay is a lively riverside promenade that captures the essence of Phnom Penh's vibrant culture. This bustling area is perfect for leisurely strolls, offering an array of restaurants, cafes, and shops nestled among charming colonial buildings. Visitors can enjoy stunning views where the Tonle Sap River meets the Mekong while immersing themselves in local life, especially during the evenings when residents gather for exercise and socializing.
It's a good place to take a a stroll especially at night from the Phnom Penh night market to the palace. It's a long walk but you barely felt the length due to the number of shops, restaurants and massage parlors available here. There are also many visitors here hanging out with their family and friends. Not to forget, there a lot of hawker stalls available that sells various type of things like souvenir and foods. It's a must visit place at night if you came to Phnom Penh. Totally an phenomenal experience.

Nice broad boulevard with excellent quality pavement. There are a lot of (sky) bars in the other side of the street that are worth visiting. The boulevard really comes to life in the evening, when the sunset is happening! There are a lot of boats here that offer sunset trips over the river. Recommend doing such a trip. Most boats also offer tickets with drinks included, which could be a good start of an evening out (:

Absolutely beautiful wat. Friendly people, even let me look inside a newly constructed pair of Pagodas that wasn't open to the public yet. Inaugurated on October 11, 2013, this memorial park is strategically located near the Independence Monument and showcases a striking bronze statue of King Sihanouk in an elegant pose beneath a beautifully crafted stupa that reflects traditional Khmer architecture.
This Monument is a great place and pay respect to former King Norodom Sihanouk. It located the stupa in the park east of the Independence Monument. The statue was dedicated to Nicole’s achievement and victory in liberating the country from the French protectorate of Cambodia. Whenever you visit the city of Phnom Penh, you must visit there.

Olympic Stadium is one of the oldest stadiums in Southeast Asia to continue and hosting big games. It was built in 1963 and opened in 1964. At the time, it was truly a masterpiece, built intending to host the short-lived GANEFO and other grand spectacle games/ceremony in Cambodia. The seating is massive considering the country’s population size, max capacity up to 70,000. It was renovated to host football games during the SEA Games 2023 by adding seats and limiting the capacity to just around 50,000. I'm glad that the Stadium continue to play crucial role in Cambodia's sporting events and matches. Fun fact, during the 1966 FIFA World Cup qualification play-off Asia v Oceania between North Korea and Australia, the Olympic Stadium was the neutral home for both countries, due to some travel restrictions. North Korea won both legs and advanced to 1966 World Cup Group Stage.

The National Olympic Stadium in Cambodia is a must-visit destination for sports enthusiasts and anyone interested in the country's rich sporting culture. The stadium is an impressive facility with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities that can accommodate various sporting events. The stadium has hosted many international events and is considered one of the most iconic landmarks in Phnom Penh. It has a seating capacity of over 50,000 people, making it the perfect venue for large-scale sporting events such as football matches, concerts, and other major events. Apart from hosting sports events, the stadium also provides ample space for outdoor activities like jogging or walking around the track. There are plenty of food stalls and restrooms available, making it a comfortable experience for visitors. Overall, the National Olympic Stadium is an excellent place to visit if you're in Cambodia, especially if you are a sports fan. Very interesting, I will recommend it to everyone I know coming to Phnom Penh! You can browse and watch many interesting films and videos about Cambodia, we learned a lot here! Their book collection is also really great, and there was also a photo exhibition downstairs. You just register when you enter and it is for free, you can leave a donation though to support them (there is a box at the reception and also upstairs). They also have screenings of very interesting movies. I would come here regularly if I would live in Phnom Penh!

I spent a truly amazing and insightful couple of hours here. It's a nice tucked away place with a small gallery on the ground floor depicting life in Cambodia in the 1950s-1970s. Stepping up to the second floor you see a display of old films and posters, and an archive filled with books in Khmer French and English on Cambodian history throughout time. The guide at the desk was amazingly helpful too, helping to set up the computer and showing me how to operate the online archive, where I spent an hour and a half watching really well captured film on life under the rule of Pol Pot, as well as the life of Bophana herself. Most of the videos right now are in Khmer or French, but the centre are aiming to translate every single digital copy to have English subtitles on it. If you're into history and want to delve deep into the lives and culture of Cambodians before, you can easily spend a good 3-4 hours here! Plus, it's absolutely free

Such a gem in Cambodia for filmmakers and cinephiles! As a visitor, you can register and then watch their archive on a computer for free — huge selection of Cambodian film from many eras. I watched a doc about Bophana the Cambodian woman who is the namesake, several shorts from the early 70’s, as well as some contemporary shorts (which were fantastic) by young filmmakers who have been trained by the center. Incredible selection, I could have kept digging. Having worked at an archive, I was so impressed that they had so much digitized as that takes so much time and work. There is also a collection of books you can read there on various topics, including film. I spent four hours there, wish I was staying longer so it could be a place I could visit regularly! The staff was very open and receptive to questions. Downstairs was a photography exhibit of gorgeous photos from the early 80s right after the fall of the Khmer Rouge. Thank you for such an enriching and interesting visit, Bophana team!

The Royal Palace Park is a must-visit attraction in Phnom Penh, serving as the official royal residence for Cambodia's king. Amidst the bustling city, a leisurely stroll along the riverfront starting from Riverside Park near the Night Market leads to this serene park.

Royal Palace Park, located just across from Phnom Penh’s Royal Palace, is a beautifully maintained little green space with royal flair — trimmed hedges, golden statues, and a direct view of one of Cambodia’s most iconic buildings. Here’s the trick: while many people head here around sunset, that’s actually when it gets crowded. If you want peaceful vibes and stunning, clean photos — come during the day, especially early afternoon. It may be warm, but the park is nearly empty, and the light is still gorgeous for photography. You’ll have the whole scene almost to yourself. It’s a short stop, but a worthwhile one — especially for anyone chasing that perfect regal backdrop without the buzz of the crowd.

Located on Sihanouk Boulevard, Moha Montrei Pagoda is a stunning Buddhist temple constructed in 1970. This ornate temple features a golden roof and tower, along with intricately carved pillars and beautiful red doors. Originally used as a storage area for rice and corn, the spacious temple is now a popular attraction for both locals and tourists due to its spectacular architecture.
Moha Montrei Pagoda is Mahanikay pagoda located along Sihanouk Blvd., south of the Olympic Stadium. It was built in the 1960s by former Prime Minister Lon Nol, a controversial figure who later fled to the United States. Moha Montrei Pagoda leads to a Vihear (Main building) in the center of the property. The exterior walls and columns are beautifully carved. It is worth visiting just to see this Vihear. I visited during the busy holiday season of Pchum ben (Ancestor day), but the monk was happy to answer our questions and guide us through the Vihear. --About Lon Nol-- Marshal Lon Nol was a Cambodian politician and general who served as Prime Minister of Cambodia twice, as well as serving repeatedly as defence minister and provincial governor By Wikipedia --About Mahanikay and Dhammayut-- Mahanikay is the older and more traditional branch of Buddhism in Cambodia. It is more involved in social work and allows its monks to own property and wear elaborate robes. Dhammayut is a newer and stricter branch of Buddhism in Cambodia. It focuses more on meditation and study and requires its monks to live a simple and ascetic lifestyle.
SUSUMU K — Google review
Moha Montrei Pagoda is located south of the Olympic Stadium along Shianouk Blvd. While the grounds are not particularly large, it is a highly historic pagoda that was built in the 1960s with funding from former Prime Minister Lon Nol and designed by Mr. Moung Ses. Upon entering the entrance, you will find Sala Chhan on the right, and further inside, the main hall (Vehear). Carvings adorn the pillars, walls, and ceilings throughout, making it clear at first glance that this pagoda is distinct from the ordinary. Inside the main hall, luxurious chandeliers illuminate the space. According to the monks, in the back on the right side facing the Buddha image, there is a very old painting from a bygone era. Moha Montrei Pagoda is well worth a visit just to see the main hall. --Basic building of Pagoda in Cambodia-- Vehear (The main hall): The building where the Buddha, the principal image of the temple, is enshrined. Sala Chhan: which translates directly to 'dining or eating hall' is a gathering hall found in village pagodas traditionally used for religious celebrations, festivals and prayers by monks and where pagoda-goers come to make offerings. Bannaly(Library): Sutra storehouse that stores scriptures

Later in the evening, I came back for Day 4 of Voices Film Festival showing short films addressing various socio-political issues around the world as well as by Cambodian film-makers.

This place has all the ingredients for connecting people, having a good time here. The in-house Italian restaurant serves tasty homemade dishes. There’s a bar and a little dj booth. Furthermore they have a small art gallery and show films and documentaries on a daily bases for free. And they also have language (German English) exchange activities. Unfortunately it was very quiet when I was there, so the evening vibe you would expect from a place like this was missing.

Riverside is a vibrant area perfect for spending a leisurely late afternoon. It's a popular gathering spot for locals engaging in group exercises, children playing with pigeons, and vendors selling an array of items from snacks to balloons. Along the river, there are small temples where visitors can observe prayer rituals and purchase lotus flowers. The riverside walkway is bustling with street food and activities, providing opportunities to relax on benches while watching the sunset or taking a break after jogging or walking.
Amazing night view, night market, local food, traveler friendly place and many moor

The riverside in Phnom Penh is a nice spot to experience local life. People gather along the bank to enjoy local street food, relax, and do outdoor activities. It’s lively, and you’ll see many birds being fed by visitors. There are also boat tours if you want to see the river from a different perspective. It can get quite hot on a sunny day, though, so it’s best to go in the early morning or evening. It would be even better if there were more greenery along the river, but overall, it’s a pleasant place to stroll and soak in the atmosphere.
Earn S — Google review
The Riverside is a nice area of sidewalk along the Tonle Sap River where it meets the Mekong. You can walk from the ferry port and the posh hotels, past the Royal Palace and the National auditorium, past the historically significant and beautiful Wat Ounalom and Kandal Market, down to the less compelling (in my opinion) Night Market and finally to Wat Phnom, the traditional origin point of Phnom Penh. Along the way, you will pass all kinds of hotels and international restaurants, some delicious, some not so, but all expensive. You will likely see fortune tellers, Buddhist bird sellers (you can buy and release the birds to gain merit), pleasure boat hawkers and some beggars. Walking the riverside is an experience On weekends, the road is closed down and the whole area becomes a "pedestrian paradise" complete with street food and performances. Pro Tip Generally speaking, Cambodia is a safe country and PP is a safe city but...... if you do run into any trouble, the riverside is where it is most likely to happen. Take reasonable precautions against pickpockets and avoid the riverside in the middle of the night, especially if drunk from visiting one of the neighbouring bars.

Sunset here feels Like Heaven. It was such a great vibe as it was little windy
Muhammad K — Google review
Beautiful. Very interesting. There is a lot to see on the riverside/surroundings: museum, royal palace and much more. Let yourself fall into the life on the river in the big city. But watch your bags...like everywhere else in the world
Frank N — Google review
A long walk way by the river side and full of life with street food, toys etc. When the cars and bikes are passing on the side road, you can take rest on the bench and enjoy the sunset and lives around you or may finish your daily jogging/walking.

Best place for relaxing in the evening in Phnom Penh, Lot of food and drinks and with the friendly people there
Phon P — Google review
Spending time by the riverside in Phnom Penh was an unforgettable experience. The climate was perfectly balanced – though the sun was shining brightly, the gentle, refreshing wind made the temperature comfortable and relaxing. Sitting there alone, I felt completely at peace, captivated by the breathtaking view of the river. The vast expanse of the flowing river was mesmerizing, with local boats and cruise vessels gracefully navigating its waters. It was a beautiful sight to watch the rhythm of life on the river. The riverside is thoughtfully designed for visitors' comfort. The interlocked pathways and narrow concrete steps along the shoreline blend aesthetics with functionality. These interlocks, resembling marble, add a touch of elegance to the area. Benches made from the same material are placed thoughtfully, offering a perfect spot to relax and soak in the tranquil atmosphere. Adding to the charm, trees are planted strategically along the shore, providing much-needed shade and shelter from the sun. The harmonious combination of nature and urban design makes this place a true retreat for anyone looking to unwind. If you're in Phnom Penh, I highly recommend spending some time by the riverside. It’s a place that offers not just scenic beauty but also a deep sense of calm and connection to nature.

Their Superfoods salad is packed with nutritious elements like baby spinach, lentils, chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, almonds, raisins, dates, and lime dressing. Pair it with a Vitamin Vitaliser smoothie for an extra health boost.
Good option for vegan and healthy dishes. I’ve never been to the shop as I only got delivery. Can’t tell exactly the face to face service, however many times I got delivery, it’s never been late.

A fun menu. Vegetarian and vegan type menu but - let’s say it - fun. I had a jackfruit BBQ taco that was spicy and interesting and my husband had fresh mango avocado summer rolls with a peanut dipping sauce (real peanut? Or cashew? Not sure) and disco fries which were a bit disappointing to be honest (Sauces weren’t as good as they sounded on the menu). Service varied a bit with one really lovely server and others were so so but overall worth a trip to this trendy but hidden little artists’ alleyway. A creative menu - I think I prefer Farm to Table overall but it might be because I like meat?
T J — Google review
The place is cozy. Great service but I waited for my foods for 30mn or more due to many customers. I can assume that they have only one or two cooks. The food selections are many and those of which are focusing on healthy diet. So, expect the novelty of taste if you are Cambodian. My overall experience: I would pay a visit again.
Siborey S — Google review
Really great choice for healthy eating in the city. The alley it's hidden down is worth a look on its own. It's slightly understaffed so service can be slow, but super friendly and it's worth the wait. Casual, hip vibe which seems popular with ex-pats.

Great food but the service could be way better! The staff is very friendly but gave us the wrong dish and it took forever to get my partner a dish as well. For these kind of prices you expect better service. This could have been a 5 star rating so that’s a shame. Also the chairs didn’t feel very comfy so that’s also something that can be better. The food is super good, please make sure the rest also rises to this level of quality.

This is the highest ranked restaurant that comes up on TripAdvisor and with good reason. The food is delicious and the staff is super friendly. The service though was very slow even when there were only two other tables occupied. It was my first time trying jackfruit, and the tacos were interesting. Avocado toast was solid. Overall a solid place to work at or roll through during your visit.

PH Euro Park, located along National Road 1 in Chbar Ampeou, is a picturesque destination designed to resemble European scenery. The park features meticulously crafted miniature European landmarks and offers ample seating areas and shaded spots along an artificial canal for visitors to relax and enjoy the serene environment. Additionally, there are various well-known coffee shops and eateries lining the canal. This family-friendly park provides a tranquil setting for a leisurely morning or peaceful late afternoon amidst beautiful surroundings.
This location offers breathtaking views and an ideal spot for capturing memorable photographs. However, the daytime temperatures can be quite warm and uncomfortable. Fortunately, the vicinity boasts a variety of cafes where you can seek respite by enjoying refreshing beverages and cooling down. Overall, it is a pleasant destination for a refreshing and rejuvenating experience.

Beautiful and relaxing place in Phnom Penh! PH Euro Park is a really nice spot for walking, relaxing, and taking photos. The whole area has a European-style design with mini landmarks, colorful buildings, and a calm atmosphere — perfect for Instagram shots! There are plenty of cafes and restaurants around (like Starbucks and The Pizza Company), so it’s a good place to chill with friends or family. Entry is free, which is great. It can get a bit crowded in the evenings and weekends, and it’s quite hot during the day — best time to visit is late afternoon or sunset when the lights come on. Overall, a beautiful, clean, and modern park — highly recommended if you’re in Phnom Penh! 🌿📸✨

PH Euro Park was a lovely surprise! The park is very clean, with well-maintained green spaces. The trees provide shade and keep the atmosphere cool, making it pleasant to walk even during the day. The miniature monuments are beautiful — you can even climb into the Eiffel Tower! The pond is clean, the fish are beautiful, and the animals look calm and well treated, which I really appreciated. You’ll find nice cafés like Starbucks, Brown Coffee, and more. ATMs are just across the street, which is super convenient. Public toilets are also very clean. A cute and relaxing park, perfect for couples, friends, or families.

from 10 March 2021 A lovely shaded green space with seats and tables, simple playground and fitness path, dog run, and Japanese foot bath. During non-outbreak times, this venue is host to many activities, including a very popular “farmer’s market’” showcasing all sorts of business in Phnom Penh. Today at 9:30 am, it is very quiet. There are a few maintenance staff milling about and just a couple green-seekers and dog-walkers. However, as usual, Teacher Jessica has been spotted by one of her many students. (Kids are always shocked to see me outside of my usual teaching venues.) Located directly across from Chip Mong Noro Mall, this is the future site of towering office and living complex. From their website: “A temporary park for Phnom Penh. “A pop-up greenspace awaits you Welcome to Odom Garden, a family-friendly tropical oasis, right in the center of Phnom Penh. ...With work not slated to begin on site until April 2021, ULS wanted to ensure the 4,000 sqm prime plot of land on Norodom Boulevard didn’t go to waste. The result is a temporary greenspace, whose elegant footpaths are dotted with lush tropical trees. Completing the set-up are various fun areas, including a playground for children, spacious plaza, dog run, japanese foot-bath and even a healthy café/brunch spot—curated by Botanico. ”Odom Garden opened its gate at the end of May 2020, and will remain accessible until the end of 2021. A love this place. A total trash punk dive bar with $1 draft & Anglo style bar food. Wednesday night is a raucous open mic. Because of the neighbors, they close at midnight, so come around eight or nine.
Ross H — Google review
Great vibe. Cool, friendly people from all over the world. They've got open mic nights, quiz nights, and happy hour to make fast friends of everybody. My fiance and I aren't big on beer, but a lot of the regulars were always so generous with beer during happy hour that we always had more beer than we knew what to do with. Our only complaint was that the bar list had a very, very limited selection of hard drinks, cocktails, and shooters. Despite that, Show Box remains our favourite watering hole in Phnom Penh.
Monica O — Google review
Great bar for ex-pats to gather but it is not fancy (think punk rock/dive bar). Decent food menu with pizza specials a few times a week. $1 draft beer is a great bargain. Bands and performances almost weekly add to the dive bar feel. Free beer daily from 6:30-7:00 pm gives this fun bar 5 stars.
Dameon G — Google review
Best dive bar in Phnom Penh. Despite the crack den ambience, Showbox is a laid back friendly place to knock back a few drinks after work. Plenty of live music a good connection with the art scene, tasty bar snacks and friendly staff round it off. Also some of the best toilet graffiti in Phnom Penh.

Favourite bar in Phnom Penh! I probably spend far too much time here! Great staff, great food, great prices! Cambodia draft $1 all day, everyday. The $4 meals (with a free beer) are a steal!
Mason N — Google review
The social hub of Phnom Penh, a real hidden gem definitely worth checking out! You can see expats and Cambodians perform side by side every Wednesday for open mic, and if you’re peckish they have a wide selection of mouth watering food, that’s fresh, clean and delicious!! Great vibes and great times to be had!

Really awesome rock and metal bar, also a great place to grab drinks after visiting the genocide museum. Thursdays they have great pizza and half price beer happy hour from 18:00 to 19:00

Brewery
Kingdom Breweries (Cambodia) Ltd is a prominent medium-sized brewery in Southeast Asia, known for its contract brewing for the Thai and Singaporean markets. The brewery offers a range of beers under its own Kingdom brand, including a Pilsner and Mango IPA, as well as the Indochine Beer brand featuring an IPA and Wheat Beer.
Definitely the best craft beer experience in Cambodia! I went for the beer sampler(6 different types of beer+free flow/10USD) and I liked them all(which is unusual since I am picky when it comes to beers). Their IPA was particularly memorable and surprisingly even the lager ticked the mark. Its obvious these guys are serious about their beers, they know what they are doing and are proud of it. The staff at the cosy bar upstairs is very welcoming and polite, especially Ms. Kanha who is brewery guide and is very knowledgeable about the beer topic, true professional and great host(dont forget to play 'Connect4' game with her since she is real champion in it and almost unbeatable😆). Must visit place for beer lovers, highly recommended!
Tomáš N — Google review
$7.50 unlimited beer (No catch, all the beer you can drink and more as it is actually pretty f#@$ing good stuff) or $15 for a tour which starts and ends in the tap room. Staff are informative, attentive and seem to sense an empty glass as soon as it hits the table. Endless complimentary garlic peanuts which is good as they are delicious. Shame it closes at 5 since you will never want to leave.
Yasmin — Google review
Very awesome, small brewery. Very nice guide takes you through the brewery and before & after you have a free beer tasting of their precious delicacies! I can recommend it to anyone who likes great beers after traveling through Asia with lots of Angkor / Tiger / other bad beer!

Nice place with free wi-fi and a river view. You can get unlimited kingdom beers for $10. You need a tuk tuk to get here.

Is a place a beer-lover wouldn't want to miss. It was first stop once landed in this beautiful country! Friendly staff to show you around, share the brewery processing. What's more that we got to meet the brewery master who grabbed us fresh bottle right from the production line! Amazing experience. Ops, did I mention USD15 for unlimited, free flow brewed beer!! Was a steal, to me at least. 😆
August W — Google review
Good beer. $5 for just a tasting, or $10 to drink unlimited beer for an afternoon. The mango IPA and Raspberry White beers are both great. I only wish the bottles were a bit more affordable or that they had growlers so it'd be easier to bring to partys and share with friends. Much cheaper to drink it on tap than to take away.
Jared P — Google review
Awesome brewery. A little outof the way, but worth the trip out. My bad luck, the person who does the tour wasn't in that day. But I sat up at the nice bar with a couple others in the same position. We enjoyed many a beer. All different, very delicious, & go down very easily. The staff are legends, talked to us the whole time & still had enough information about the brewery.

We took a tour of Kingdom Brewery in August 2019 and it was a great experience. Sok did a great job a explaining how the brewery came to be, some of the processes of making beer. We had that opportunity to do a beer tasting, I would highly recommend.

Nestled on the outskirts of the city, The Factory 104 is a vibrant creative hub that transformed an old garment factory into a multipurpose space since its opening in 2018. This unique venue not only hosts an array of free events but also features a co-working area where you can rent hot desks for just $9 daily—perfect for tackling those long-overdue projects or writing endeavors.
This is the only bar in Phnom Penh with class. Top notch ladies and what would you like to drink sir? It's american owned by father and son and these guys are awesome. This IS my bar in Cambodia. This is my second home is bassac lane. Riverside is going downhill to me but at 104 with the factory is my new home. Play pool, sit in a hot tub, have food, listen to a good play list and talk to women and watch them dance...hell yes please🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Cool emerging co-working and art / creative space. A couple urban artist galleries (for instance FT) and a couple decent restaurants and cafes . Free bicycle to ride round the area. Great that this is a happening in Phnom Penh .

When I visited here the first time it was incredible, the old owner was great, hands down one of my favorite spots to visit. However the new owner is completely different. I visited two times this week, first time was okay liked the new renovations. However the second time was a complete disaster. The owner got into a huge argument with his son infront of everyone and made the entire environment extremely awkward that I had to immediately finish my drink and leave cause felt very uncomfortable. Also the same song was on repeat for about 30min when I asked to change it they told me no. Super bizarre. Sad to see once a great place turn to a mess.

Fantastic bar! Staff is very friendly and gorgeous. 10/10 would recommend
Justin H — Google review
This place used to be one of my favorite bars in Phnom Penh. There are new American owners, it is a father son team that now own this place. They also bought other bars on the street. They do not let customers play their own music and are rude about it when you ask them. There is a reason why a lot of their staff quit and are now working at other bars. These guys rub me the wrong way and it seems like they possibly could be up to something in an illegal way. They have a mandatory drink minimum before you want to barfine. They run this bar not like any other bars around Riverside. They are out of place here in Phnom Penh. They must have money to burn due to all their remodeling. Street 104 is a dead street and that will not change. I will not come to this bar anymore, owners have a serious chip on their shoulder and run the bar not in a welcoming friendly way. Go elsewhere. There was even a big argument between the father and son that made it very uncomfortable. The new owner even choked out the old owner and the video is circulating around. These new owners are going down a slipper slope and already getting a bad reputation in the city.
Jasjihf — Google review

The city boasts of many bars, but there is one that stands out above the rest - a truly exceptional bar. It is no surprise that this establishment has earned such a reputation, given the warmth and hospitality displayed by its staff. Whenever I am in Cambodia, a visit to this lovely bar is an absolute must. It has become my go-to spot for a night of fun and revelry. As luck would have it, I will be returning in May, and I am already eagerly anticipating seeing the friendly stuff again. Their charm and grace are simply unmatched. All in all, this is a truly magnificent establishment, offering an unforgettable experience to all who enter its doors.

The Central Market, also referred to as the Iron Cotton Market, is a distinctive cross-shaped dome that serves as a prominent symbol of Phnom Penh. Constructed by a French architect, this market features an array of small stalls offering various goods such as clothing, household items, fresh produce, and artisanal crafts. Visitors can explore sections dedicated to local specialties like fruits, flowers, and vegetables along with popular items like handicrafts and jewelry.
What a beautiful experience. A night market with a difference. Lively and vibrant. It was alive and enticing. I loved walking the streets, feeling so safe and enjoying the atmosphere. The variety of goods, all layed out was phenomenal. You have to see it to believe it. The quality of goods was excellent. The colour's were so vibrant. My senses were tingling with the amazing sights, cacophony of sounds and sensational, mouthwatering smells. Please know that you'll fall in love with this market.
Rasta R — Google review
Disappointing and unhygienic. The night market in Siem Reap was a letdown. The food stalls served low-quality and unappetizing dishes, with questionable ingredients. The complete lack of hygiene was alarming, with vendors handling food with bare hands and poor sanitation practices. Unless significant improvements are made, I would strongly advise against visiting this night market for food or shopping.

"Dusk Till Dawn" is a popular destination for travelers who want to experience the beauty of Phnom Penh's riverfront at dusk. However, during the dry season, the low water levels of the Mekong River can make it challenging to enjoy the views over the high river banks. Visitors also recommend not missing out on the rooftop bar for a memorable experience in town.
Loved the Rooftop bar :-) don't miss it when you're in town!

we came here as soon as it was dark. there was an empty bar and three employees. two women were more concerned with making soup for themselves than with our cocktails. Only the younger guy showed less initiative. We were forced to explain how to do the daiquiri. because the staff are incompetent and do not know the recipes of cocktails. on the site of the host, I would conduct a briefing for women about what they should do when the guests come. the music played very quietly, we asked for a louder and the guy reluctantly agreed. for my daiquiri there was no cocktail glass, he had to be poured into the old fashion. the only plus of this place is the top view of the city. there was not enough alcohol, the bartender does not know how to make a cosmopolitan. The owner of the bar should pay more attention to training employees.

The Riverside Park in Phnom Penh is a great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful river views. The park is surrounded by restaurants, cafés, and bars, making it a perfect spot to spend an evening out with friends. In the evenings, the park comes alive with families out for walks, as fishermen bring their catches back to shore. There are also food vendors selling local delicacies.
With the street blocked for pedestrians only you can see the Khmer culture in dance, songs and lots and lots of different foods to try. Definitely a weekend night must do.

A Night Stroll at Sisowath Riverside Park Tonight, I decided to take a walk along Sisowath Riverside Park, one of the most vibrant and enjoyable places to visit at night in Phnom Penh. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the refreshing breeze coming from the Mekong River, which swept away the heat of the day. It felt calm, cool, and relaxing. The riverside scene was beautifully lit, with golden lights reflecting off the water’s surface. On both sides of the walkway were lively food stalls, cafés, and street vendors, bustling with activity. People were enjoying coffee, groups of friends gathered around street food carts, and couples strolled hand in hand under the soft glow of street lamps. Light music drifted from nearby shops, blending with laughter and conversation to create a lively yet peaceful atmosphere. I bought a grilled meat skewer from a street cart and walked slowly while savoring the flavor and the moment. It was a simple yet memorable experience. If you ever visit Phnom Penh, don’t miss the chance to spend an evening walking along Sisowath Riverside Park — a place where energy and serenity coexist in harmony.

Visited Sisowath Riverside recently and absolutely loved it The place is super clean, peaceful, and perfect for an evening walk. You can enjoy the view of the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers meeting, and the sunset looks amazing here. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and street food options nearby great for trying local snacks. The atmosphere feels safe and lively, especially in the evening with lights and music around. Definitely one of the best spots to chill in Phnom Penh 🇰🇭

Sisowath Riverside Park in Cambodia is a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy scenic river views. It’s clean, lively, and perfect for evening walks with plenty of street food nearby. A great place to experience local culture and unwind by the water.
Morin T — Google review
An unassuming riverside pathway that becomes a lively and vibrant street food hub in the evening (maybe after 6pm). There were so many street food stalls that lined the promenade. Tables and chairs were set up in the middle for people to eat and even live performances by locals. They close the street on either end pretty far down so it was nice to walk along the water but also walk along the street. There were so many people that everyone spilled onto the street anyway. Kids took advantage of the smooth road and rollerbladed down the streets. It was really lively and I got to try a lot of snacks. The prices were inexpensive, but could be considered expensive compared to other areas (I.e - $1 for sugarcane juice, $3 for a few octopus).
Samantha S — Google review
Great place to walk. At night the food stalls set up and it's lively and colourful
Kay B — Google review
Sisowath Riverside Park is one of the most vibrant and iconic parts of Phnom Penh. Stretching along the Tonle Sap River, it’s where locals and travelers come together — for walks, workouts, street snacks, or just to sit and watch the world go by. The atmosphere here shifts throughout the day: mornings are peaceful with joggers and monks, afternoons bring heat and street life, and evenings? Pure magic. The breeze off the river, golden sunset light, families playing, and street vendors lighting up their carts — it all feels alive, warm, and very Cambodian. You’ll see kids flying kites, groups doing synchronized aerobics, lovers walking hand-in-hand, and old uncles sipping iced coffee while silently judging the world. It’s chaotic and chill at the same time — and totally worth experiencing. There are benches, open spaces, and it’s right next to landmarks like the Royal Palace and Ponlea Chey Pavilion. If Phnom Penh has a soul, this is where it beats loudest.
JOKER'S — Google review
The Riverside is one of Phnom Penh’s defining features, blending the city’s style with its everyday pleasures. A broad, tiled promenade runs between the slow, honking traffic and the muddy lifeblood of the Mekong, offering space to stroll, jog, or simply watch the city unfold. Though guidebooks sometimes warn of late-night dangers, most visitors find it more lively than threatening especially in the cooler hours when locals come out to breathe. At its busiest, the Riverside becomes a moving festival: food vendors line the street, families gather, and people-watching rivals any show in town. When the adjoining road is closed to cars, the atmosphere turns almost carnival like a reminder that this isn’t just a walkway, but one of Phnom Penh’s beating hearts.

It's changed from what I remember. It doesn't have as many stores as before and the Lucky Burger restaurant and the grocery store are completely separate now. There are some cheap stores in the City mall which have really good products for a cheap price.
