Riga Central Market is a sprawling market located by the river, featuring both indoor and outdoor stalls offering a wide variety of goods. The market is housed in five historic buildings that were originally Zeppelin hangars, with each building specializing in different products such as fruits and vegetables, fish, meats, and more. The unique architecture of the market adds to its charm, with its metalwork dating back to the 1920s.
Riga Central Market is a vibrant and fascinating place to explore, and one of the largest and most unique markets in Europe. Housed in impressive former zeppelin hangars, it offers a mix of history, culture, and local flavors all under one roof. The variety is incredible—you can find everything from fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats to local cheeses, smoked fish, baked goods, and traditional Latvian delicacies. Outside, there are also stalls with clothes, crafts, and souvenirs. The atmosphere is lively and authentic, giving you a real taste of everyday life in Riga. It’s the perfect spot to try local snacks, meet friendly vendors, and take in the aromas and colors of Latvian cuisine. ⭐ Tip: Visit in the morning for the freshest products and fewer crowds.
Maria C — Google review
If you like great food at a reasonable price, the central market is waiting for you. SO MUCH FOOD! Everything was fresh and was as alluring to the nose as it was to the palate. So much variety, you will hardly know where to start. It's even fun if you're not hungry... just walk around and take it all in. Definitely recommend!
Paul C — Google review
The best open market I’ve ever visited. Traditional meeting the modern in a wonderful mix. Vegetables, fruits, nuts fish, poultry, beef, clothes and lot of other things. I will be back.
Joel M — Google review
I visited Riga Central Market, and it was such a vibrant experience. The market is huge and full of life you can find just about everything here, from fresh flowers and local foods to meats, cheeses, spices, and handmade goods. It’s a great place to discover authentic Latvian flavors and everyday life. The market is set inside historic old Zeppelin hangars, which gives it a unique and impressive atmosphere. Each pavilion specializes in different products, making it easy to explore and sample a wide variety of items. I especially enjoyed seeing the fresh produce stands and traditional Latvian treats. It’s not just a place to shop—it’s also a cultural experience, perfect for walking around, tasting, and soaking in the local vibe. Prices are fair, and you’ll find both locals and tourists enjoying the market. If you’re visiting Riga, this is definitely a must-see. 📍 Location: Nēģu iela 7, Riga, Latvia

Nice and quick lunch spot in the gastronomy market they have different restaurants where you can have local food and buy local cheeses and souvenirs. A nice quick stop in the city. Haven’t take any picture of the dumplings but they were very good.
Giulia T — Google review
Great place to sample the local food. There are plenty of fruit and veg stalls, flower stalls and clothing stalls as well as a food market inside. They sell all the traditional dishes for extremely reasonable prices so a great way to eat like the locals. It’s a vibrant, buzzing area that’s definitely worth a visit.
Mel P — Google review
This place is just HUGEEEE! Lots of different departments, one for fruit, veg, others for meat, fish. cheese, deserts. All different ranges and prices depending on who you buy from. Some prices get cheaper along the way. There is a food department where you can eat lots of food again, depends where you want to eat and what you want to eat. But it is so big you’ll definitely leave with something. Clothes also. We walked here as we seen it was difficult to get parking 🅿️ There was a dumping food stall that was just … beautiful 😍 it’s hard to get a seat because in the food area lots of people are piled up.
M L — Google review
A very wide assortment of articles on offer in the five former zeppelin hangars and at stall outside. Numerous local specialities at sensible prices. The fish names were especially confusing. Just a short walk from the train station and bus stops.

The Museum of the Occupation of Latvia is a historical institution dedicated to educating visitors about the period when Latvia was occupied by the USSR and Nazi Germany. With over 60,000 exhibits and an extensive audiovisual archive featuring more than 2,300 video testimonials, the museum provides a comprehensive overview of Latvia's history during this tumultuous time. It aims to remember and commemorate those who suffered unjustly during the occupations, including deportees, refugees, and those who were convicted or murdered.
Utterly incredible storytelling. Really enjoyed the unfiltered material, honest and brutal in instances. Highly recommend. If you want a full experience to read everything, take 1.5 to 2 hrs, but obvs can be done in less.
Nadia G — Google review
Good exhibition if you want to learn about the history of latvia during the 2nd world war and the period after until the 1990s. Would recommend the audio guide and if you are interested in reading more about the exhibits to plan in around two hours.
Uwe J — Google review
Be sure to allow time in your visit to Riga to tour this museum. Ideally visit when you can take the guided tour with a staff member. we did and it added so much more context to the visit. I would allow two hours if possible. Great bathrooms and lockers to make your visit even easier. no café but nearby there are many places to grab a cup of coffee afterwards and process what you’ve learned.
Hillary M — Google review
While I fully recognize the historical significance and tragic weight preserved by the Museum of the Occupation in Riga, my overall experience fell short of expectations. The museum is notably not child-friendly; the atmosphere is overwhelmingly somber and silent, evoking more of a funeral ceremony than a space for historical engagement. Aside from a single screen presenting the events, there is little in terms of interactive or visually engaging exhibits that might capture a visitor’s attention or curiosity. I would not recommend visiting with children or unless you have a strong interest in and prior knowledge of Latvian history. Moreover, the lack of warmth from the staff is palpable—there were no smiles or welcoming gestures that could ease the heavy tone of the visit. A simple smile can go a long way in making history more accessible and inviting, and sadly, that human touch was missing.
Axmed A — Google review
Dramatic museum about Latvia's traumatic recent history under the Soviet and Nazi occupations during the second world war and up to 1991. Lots to read and there are some dramatic films and exhibits. Makes you want to celebrate Latvia's independence with them by the end and wave a Latvian flag! There are lockers for bags but no cafe (there are restaurants nearby).
David P — Google review
I very much enjoyed the tour of the museum of occupation. I took a guided tour that was excellent as it manage to convey feeling and perspectives related to this difficult time of history. I also visited the KGB museum but f2la the occupation museum provided me with more fact and information. I highly, highly recommend taking a guided tour as it really help with the understanding.
Emma — Google review
Bloody hell, this place is sobering. Very well presented. Moving, depressing, enlightening. You come here and you realize why Ukraine is fighting for its life. You realize the terrible toll on the Baltics. You want to go and wring the necks of the gutless NATO country leaders. If Russia was in your backyard you would be thinking very differently.
Chris T — Google review
A super interesting collection detailing the Soviet Occupation of Latvia and the struggle of the people to reestablish their sovereign state. We did an English tour that was pretty rushed. We went back through the entire museum. It is laid out in chronological order and there is a "path" to follow. There's a cute teddy bear character that might keep kids interested with a few interactive displays. There are adult interactives also. The museum tells the tale of brave resistance fighters and you leave with a sense of the great national pride that Latvians have today, as they should !

St. Peter's Church is a medieval church with a remarkable 123-meter-high steeple, dating back to the 15th century. The main attraction here is the Clock Tower, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of Riga's cityscape and the charming red roofs of the Old Town. Despite its troubled history and multiple renovations, it stands tall as an iconic landmark in Riga. Visitors can enjoy various tours, including a popular walking tour that showcases the city's rich history and culture.
I would recommend this place for a good viewing point of the city. The church inside is nothing special, but the views from the point are worth the ticket price. As others have mentioned, there may be a queue for the lifts, both to go up and come down since there is only one lift in operation and takes only around 10 people each time. The views are nice when the weather is good, but the platform at the top is not too big, and as it's all outdoors, it can be a bit windy.
Ai — Google review
Beautiful church right in the heart of Riga’s Old Town. St. Peter’s Church is an impressively restored building, with restoration work still ongoing. A highlight is the elevator ride up the tower – the elevator may feel a little shaky, but it takes you safely to the top. From there you get a fantastic view over Riga and the Old Town. Definitely a worthwhile stop on a city walk.
Yo L — Google review
Really beautiful church, well worth stopping by even if not religious. The building is stunning & the architecture is immense. You can pay extra to go up in the tower, which is an incredible experience. You get panoramic views of the whole city, including the river. It's a bit scary at first as the lift opens directly out onto the tower, but definitely power through!
Tyler L — Google review
St. Peter’s Church in Tallinn is one of those places where history, architecture, and atmosphere all come together beautifully ⛪✨. The church itself has a calm, almost timeless feel to it—like it’s been quietly watching the city change for centuries. The high ceilings and intricate details make you feel both small and amazed, the kind of place where you whisper automatically even if no one tells you to. What I loved most was how it blends solemnity with charm. It’s not just about bricks and stained glass; it’s about stories, traditions, and that sense of being part of something much larger than yourself. And of course, like every good historic church in Europe, it also gives you that gentle reminder that your photography skills will never do it justice. 📸😂 Whether you’re into history, architecture, or just need a quiet escape from the bustle of Tallinn, St. Peter’s Church is worth stepping inside. It’s a place that makes you pause, reflect, and maybe even wish your own ceiling at home was a little more “cathedral-like.”
Arnab — Google review
The only thing I liked was the panoramic view of the city from the top. Entrance fee is high. You pay 8 euro to see the church only. And 13 to see the tower. There is a girl who works inside the lift (in this heat). Her job is to collect the tickets. She can’t leave the lift while it gets stuffed with people all the time in that hot weather. I suggest finding another way in collecting tickets and not inside the lift! So overall the view from the top was amazing but the entrance fees and procedures need a serious review
Zina A — Google review
9EUR to visit the church and do up to the tower via 3 flights of stairs and an elevator. As soon as you step out of the elevator you are on the viewing platform which can be very windy but views are beautiful especially with nice weather. Church itself is nice and peaceful.
Yeesh R — Google review
It is a very beautiful place, here you will find ancient bas-reliefs and beautiful sculptures. You can take an elevator to the tower, from where there are very beautiful panoramic views. The cost is 9 euros.
Anane K — Google review
You can't beat the views from the bell tower! Plus, there was an elevator!! The church was beautiful and worth seeing. If you like history, this church dates back to the 13th century AD. I definitely recommend a visit!

Riga, the capital city of a Baltic country in Northern Europe, is renowned for its stunning Art Nouveau architecture. The city boasts the highest concentration of Art Nouveau buildings globally, with many dating back to 1904-1910. Alberta Street is a must-visit, offering an array of exquisitely detailed structures. While some buildings may be undergoing restoration work, they still showcase the grandeur and intricacy of this architectural style.
This entire street has the most beautifully maintained Art Nouveau buildings. There are many different styles and each has its own character. They are truly amazing and well worth the walk to see them.
G M — Google review
One of my, if not my top favorite place I visited in Riga. A small but beautiful area. An artists/photographers dream and anyone who is interested in beautiful architecture. Inside this building we were taken back into the time, through the detailed design of the rooms and the staff, who were dressed in 19th century garments. The staff were very friendly and in a very good mood, very welcoming. The tickets were also very decently priced. 100% recommend, a must-see in Riga! Not just the museum but also the surrounding Art Nouveau district!!
A. — Google review
Had a blast at the museum! I came with a friend, we didn’t have a lot of expectations, so we didn’t know what to expect. But we had such a great time! The museum was educational, interactive, we had an opportunity to dress up as from that time period. It just made out day. Made a lot of memories.
Emily G — Google review
A fabulous building in a fabulous, affluent, well-preserved corner of Central Riga. Not to be missed!
Eugenio C — Google review
Wonderful place and it’s very unique to see these style still represented here. And downstairs there is a small cabin where you can try some interesting outfits. Very impressive

A section of Riga well known for its Art Nouveau houses built in the early 20th century. Considered the finest example in all of Europe.
Bruce W — Google review
The former home of the Latvian architect Peskana this gives an unusual and fascinating insight into late 19th century domestic art and live. The many rooms have been restored to original condition. It is located within a pleasant walk from the town centre.
Chris W — Google review
This is must see and a nice walking where you see this quite famous district. The Art Nouveau district is primarily concentrated along Alberta iela and Elizabetes iela and we found streets featuring stunning examples of Art Nouveau buildings, with intricate facades, decorative elements, and unique architectural details. A nice easy way to spend a couple of hours.

The House of the Black Heads, a Gothic-style property constructed in 1334, showcases medieval cellars and a remarkable presidential silver collection. Despite being bombed during World War II, the building's architectural splendor was restored in the 1990s. Its Dutch Renaissance-inspired appearance features vibrant colors and exquisite ornamentation. The adjacent municipal square was built concurrently with the palace. Visitors can admire its stunning facade and explore museum exhibits and a re-created grand conference hall inside.
An absolute must-see in Riga! The House of the Blackheads is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Old Town — its stunning facade and detailed sculptures are breathtaking. The interior is equally impressive, with elegant halls, historical artifacts, and a fascinating medieval cellar that’s the only original part of the building. It’s hard to believe this place was destroyed in WWII and rebuilt in the 1990s — the reconstruction is so detailed, it feels like stepping back in time. Staff were friendly, and the exhibits are well organized and available in several languages. Perfect for history lovers, architecture fans, or anyone exploring Riga. Highly recommended — give yourself at least an hour to fully enjoy it!
Bishal U — Google review
Nice to see. Impressive reconstructed fassade. Nice exhibition inside but not necessary to pay entrance and to see the view rooms. For longer stay or if you are really interested. Otherwise just enjoy it from outside
Micha D — Google review
Certainly one of the iconic places in Riga. I recommend getting an audio guide for your visit. There are several options how you can combine your ticket, also with drink or coffee. Staff is helpful in explanations.
Uwe J — Google review
The House of the Black Heads is one of the most iconic landmarks in Riga’s Old Town. Originally built in the 14th century as a guild for unmarried merchants, shipowners, and foreigners, it has always been a center of culture and celebration. The building you see today is a faithful reconstruction, as the original was destroyed during World War II. With its striking Gothic façade decorated with Renaissance details, it is a masterpiece that reflects Riga’s rich history and vibrant spirit. Inside, you’ll find beautifully restored halls, exhibitions about the city’s past, and a glimpse into the life of the Brotherhood of Black Heads. I warmly recommend adding the House of the Black Heads to your itinerary when exploring Riga. It’s not only a chance to admire one of the city’s most stunning architectural gems but also to step into a place where history, art, and culture truly come alive.
Khalil B — Google review
Wonderful museum and reconstructed building. The original building was completed destroyed in the Second World War, and the present building was opened in 1999 but it's a beautiful replica as close to the original as possible and an iconic building of Latvia. The outside is spectacular and the indoor tour starts with a tour of the original foundations in the basement and historical information. The upper floors are grand hallways and stately rooms which are impressive. One of our favourite buildings in Riga.
David P — Google review
A stunning gem in Old Riga with a captivating façade that reflects centuries of history. Originally built in 1334 for merchant gatherings and later home to the Brotherhood of Blackheads, this landmark features ornate Renaissance-Mannerist ornamentation added in the 1600s and late‑19th‑century sculptures by August Volz. It was destroyed in WWII and lovingly reconstructed from 1996–1999 with public and city funding. Today it houses a museum and elegant ballrooms, offers multi‑language audio guides, and displays a medieval cellar dating back to the 14th century. Perfect for history lovers and architecture fans!
Abhiraj C — Google review
The Museum of the Black Heads was one of the cultural highlights in Riga. The building itself carried real presence, with an exterior that immediately set the tone and an interior that matched in detail and design. The exhibits were well presented, covering the history of the Brotherhood of Black Heads in a way that was accessible but not oversimplified. The collection of artefacts, furniture, and decorative pieces gave a strong impression of the wealth and influence the guild held, while the layout made it easy to follow the story from room to room. Staff were helpful and kept the flow organised without interrupting the visit. The overall experience combined architectural impact with historical context, making it a site that showed both Riga’s heritage and its sense of pride in preserving it.

Incredible restoration of a totally razed building! I also appreciated how my journalist credentials were accepted for free entry. There are English translations for each placard in each room. Not many visitors the day I went (Tuesday afternoon). Beautiful space that has been well-renovated.

Nestled in the heart of Old Town, Riga Cathedral stands as a magnificent testament to centuries of architectural evolution. This medieval Lutheran church, constructed in the 13th century, showcases an impressive blend of Romanesque, early Gothic, and Baroque styles. As the largest medieval church in the Baltic States, it serves not only as a place of worship but also as a vibrant concert venue featuring its remarkable 19th-century pipe organ.
Beautiful and historic cathedral in the heart of Riga’s Old Town. The mix of architectural styles is really impressive, and the atmosphere inside is peaceful and inspiring. I especially recommend hearing the famous pipe organ if you get the chance—it's unforgettable. A must-visit when you're in Riga!
Bishal U — Google review
The Riga Cathedral is one of the oldest religious buildings in Latvia and the Baltic region. It was founded in 1211. The Cathedral has been rebuilt and enlarged several times over the centuries, having the architectural elements of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque etc. The Cathedral has one of of the world's most valuable historic organs from 19th century. There is an entrance fee to visit the Cathedral, but it's worth every penny. It's truly majestic and very beautiful inside. Don't miss the cloister and courtyard area that contain a collection of artifacts and canons too. There is an option to attend organ concerts, explore the organ balcony, and take tower tours, though we didn't do any of these. Highly recommend a visit to this
Soudamini M — Google review
Riga Cathedral is the largest cathedral in the Baltic region, located in the old town of Riga. Unfortunately, there is a fee to enter, but if you are not interested in church architecture, it may be more interesting to visit other places such as museums. Also, on some important days in Latvia, free concerts are held in the cathedral.
Hüseyn Q — Google review
Visited for the piccolo concerto, I hesitated as it was not cheap for only 20min… it was worth every penny !!!! Instantly got goosebumps when the organist started hitting the keys and pedals. Such a unique experience in a beautiful cathedral.
Mona R — Google review
You can't miss it! Everything about Riga Cathedral is big, bigger or biggest. It is the largest church in the Baltic States, the church is located on the largest square in the city and the organ was once the largest instrument in the world. The first church was built in 1211 by Bishop Albert van Buxhoeveden, the Romanesque altar is a reminder of this. At the end of the 14th/beginning of the 15th century the church was enlarged and given a Gothic appearance. The new, partly wooden tower that was completed in 1595 was one of the highest in the world at 140 meters. Because the tower had fallen into disrepair over the centuries (wooden structures were rotten), the Riga city council decided in 1775 to replace it with a smaller, "only" 90 meters high, Baroque copy. Despite all the destruction caused by fires and the Reformation, the interior has plenty of interesting things to offer: medieval tombstones, the pulpit from 1641, and the 6718-pipe organ. Riga Cathedral: you can't miss it, you shouldn't miss it.
Koen — Google review
Went for the organ concert at 12:00. It's a bit tricky to chose where to sit. I recommend coming around 15-20 minutes early to be zhere before tourist groups. Sit on the front benches facing the side of the cathedral. that way you can see the screen projectors on the collums at the front (they have a camera showing the organ player) and thr organ pipes in the back.

History Museums
The Latvian War Museum, housed in the historic Powder Tower in Riga, Latvia, offers free admission to visitors interested in exploring the military history of Latvia. The museum's collection includes artifacts and exhibits that cover various periods, from ancient times to the present day. Visitors can learn about key events such as the Latvian War of Independence, World War I and II, and the Soviet occupation.
Quite possibly one of the best museums I have ever been to. Although it's harrowing reading about the history, the museum itself is one of the best designed I have seen. The exhibitions are set up in a great way, it's easy to work your way around. There are a couple of parts that aren't in English, like letters, news articles etc, but if you keep an eye out, there are guidebooks you can borrow 😀 It's free to enter but you can donate if you wish. The building itself is also really beautiful, so definitely make time to visit.

Time goes by, and people forget. This place is a stark reminder of the suffering Latvia and other Baltic countries endured on the road to independence. In my opinion, this is one of the best war museums in Eastern Europe. It does a great job of telling the story. Which is so important, considering how much time has passed... many visitors aren't old enough to remember the atrocities that were perpetrated on the Latvian people. This museum keeps history alive. It's a must see! It's not easy to see, but it is important to remember. I guarantee, it will have an emotional impact on you!
Paul C — Google review
Very interesting museum, maybe more relevant than ever, sadly. However, the museum showcases Latvias history from the great Northern war until todays Nato membership. It is well worth a visit. The entry was free of charge which I thinkbis good for a museum like this.
Tom G — Google review
Must see. We spent hours here. Latvia has been through many wars but this museum is mainly focused on WWI. It really tells their perspective of that war well. And of course there are plenty of exhibits on other conflicts. Again, a must see.
Bike O — Google review
Lovely Museum was free entry when we visited and is based over three large floors each floor covers a different time zone in war history within Latvia.
DIY D — Google review
Really big exhibition, spent 2+ hours. At the moment part of it is being updated, hopefully after that everything will have translation into English :) Really good place to learn more about history from WWI to these days
Simona K — Google review
I have almost got tired of seeing the story of the war museum either here or in Estonia. Simply, Russia is always involved in every single war to seize any resources. Still, it is necessary to gain insight about history so it will not repeat, to further appreciate people who died in your stance for freedom. What I like about this museum is that the first room describes the army's medical aid, which is for sure vital in a war. Like when you play the game, the healer is the ace in your garrison. Anyway, the ticket is free, and you will be welcomed by a real soldier at the welcome desk.
Nat F — Google review
Honestly a very well rounded experience for anyone visiting Riga. I would only give 4,5 stars, because after the WWI exposition the information panels for non-latvian speakers weren't very accessible. Also the exposition on the modern latvian army, which was more interactive than the other expositions, seemed like a recruiting campaign for the armed forces but that seems necessary in these times to be fair. Anyway it's free, go visit.

The park offers ample greenery and trees, providing an ideal setting for quality time with kids. Positioned near the Freedom Monument, it offers stunning views of both Old Riga and New Riga.
A beautiful and peaceful spot right in the heart of the city. The park has an amazing vibe—perfect for a relaxing walk, reading a book, or simply soaking in nature. A must-visit if you’re in Riga and looking for a quiet escape.
NEHA G — Google review
Bastejkalns Park is one of Riga’s most enchanting green havens, a place where history and nature are woven together with timeless elegance. Once part of the city’s defensive ramparts, the park was transformed in the 19th century into a serene landscape of winding paths, graceful bridges, and romantic waterways. Walking through Bastejkalns feels like stepping into a living painting: lush trees arch above you, flowerbeds burst with color in every season, and the canal reflects the beauty of the city around it. The park also carries a quiet strength of memory—it is here that monuments and memorials remind visitors of Latvia’s struggle for freedom and independence. This harmony of beauty and history makes every stroll not only a peaceful escape but also a journey of reflection. my advise visit Bastejkalns Park in the early morning or at sunset. The soft light, combined with the calm atmosphere, creates an unforgettable experience. Bring a book, take a leisurely walk, or simply sit by the canal—you’ll feel the soul of Riga in every moment.

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Riga! Bastejkalna Parks is absolutely stunning, one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in the city. It’s full of lush greenery, colorful flowerbeds, and romantic bridges crossing over the scenic Riga canal. Perfect for a relaxing walk or a quiet moment to enjoy nature right in the center of Riga. The park is also rich in history — once part of Riga’s old fortifications, now transformed into a gorgeous landscaped hill with monuments, sculptures, and even a small waterfall. You’ll also find memorials dedicated to Latvia’s fight for freedom and national heroes. Whether you’re taking a boat ride through the canal or just enjoying the views, this place feels like a fairytale. Clean, calm, and beautifully maintained. A must-visit when in Riga!

Park
Victory Park, located in Riga, is a charming and somewhat controversial park featuring sports fields, cherry trees, and a winter ski track. At its center stands a monumental obelisk dedicated to Soviet soldiers. While the monument commemorates the victory over Nazis in WWII, it evokes mixed feelings among Latvians due to its association with the Soviet Union. The park offers open spaces for activities like jogging, biking, and kite flying.
I visited Victory Park with my family yesterday during Riga Days, and it was an unforgettable experience! The highlight of our visit was the fire show, which was absolutely mesmerizing and added a magical touch to the evening. The park itself is well-maintained and offers great facilities, including clean toilets and a water fountain, so we were able to refill our water bottles easily. It's a perfect place for families to enjoy some quality time together. I highly recommend visiting Victory Park if you're in the area. The combination of beautiful surroundings and exciting events makes it a must-see spot!

One of the best parks in Riga. It covers a large area with plenty of space and diverse activities for children and adults: skate and bike parks, reserved bike trails, playgrounds, open air advanced gym, and chess boards! You will find your peace in this scenic and well designed park for sure ✔️
Julian D — Google review
I love this park but that’s not what i’m here to talk about, (mostly)… It angers me seeing the people who say: The park is nothing now, there used to be a monument that was beautiful! And Russians mostly say that. So go back to Russia maybe? Because if you didn’t forget the park is in Latvia. Victory park is perfect for walks, and sports. It’s very calm and green. Its gorgeous!! There are also a lot of places to sit and a lake where you can swim in summer because the water is really warm!! I love it without the monument because it’s what it’s supposed to be: A park in LATVIA, not Russia.💗You can also get some food and drinks at Coffee stop, but it sadly opens on Thursdays so if you go there on Mondays Tuesdays or Wednesdays, you can’t get anything…

Quiet not so out of the way park with open space for shaded jogging or bike riding. Has open air, sunny, grassy areas as well for kite flying. To see this old Soviet monument commemorating their "victory" over the opposition in WWII is a great for war buffs. The 3 mammoth monuments are set on a not so manicured pavement area that reminds us of a young Latvian country free from Soviet rule and new to freedom.

We visited all the main landmarks of the Old Town, always accompanied by clear and engaging explanations. Harijs has a strong and clear voice, with excellent speaking skills, which made the experience even more enjoyable and memorable.

Hostel
Cinnamon Sally Backpackers Hostel is a charming accommodation located near Riga Central Station, making it an ideal base for day trips around Latvia. The hostel offers cozy dorms and private rooms with free Wi-Fi, a shared kitchen, and a lounge area with beanbags and fairy lights. It's popular among young travelers due to its affordability and the opportunity to meet others. The hostel has a relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff, creating a homey environment with a no-shoes-inside policy.
One of the best hostel experiences I’ve ever had! The place truly feels like home—everything was clean, the breakfast was great, and the atmosphere was full of positive energy. I loved meeting new people every day. I’ll definitely come back to Riga just because of this hostel. The staff & owner was also incredibly kind and welcoming!!
Dina M — Google review
Cinnamon Sally Hostel is an absolute gem in the heart of Rīga. From the warm, welcoming staff to the vibrant traveler community, this place feels more like someone's home than a hostel. The rooms are clean and cozy (surprisingly the 4 bed is very spacious for all), the common areas are perfect for socializing or unwinding, and the location couldn’t be better as it's situated between several green spaces and minutes from the Old Town and train station. The daily breakfast? Surprisingly varied and delicious. It's been a perfect start before heading out to explore the city and catching up with fellow billets. What really sets Cinnamon Sally apart from others is the vibe: relaxed, friendly, and effortlessly social. Whether you're a solo backpacker or just passing through, it’s got a lounge area that welcomes everyone, is a meeting point before nights out, and is the kind of place that makes you want to hangout and stay longer. This is definitely a place I will be recommending to all fellow travellers passing through.

I had a really great stay at Cinnamon Sally Backpackers Hostel during my time in Riga. From the moment I arrived—well, eventually arrived—the staff made me feel completely at home. Funny story: I actually spent about half an hour spinning in circles right outside the hostel, totally missing the entrance. I must’ve walked past it three or four times without realizing it. Finally, I gave them a call, and the staff was so patient and helpful. One of them basically guided me over the phone like air traffic control. I was laughing by the time I got in the door, and they greeted me with the kind of warmth that instantly made the whole ordeal worth it. The hostel is in a great location—close to everything, with tons of cool spots nearby and all the main sights within walking distance. The vibe inside was laid-back and social, with comfy spaces to hang out and chat with fellow travelers. Breakfast was included each morning, which is always a plus. The food was nothing fancy, but it did the job—perfect for fueling up before a day of exploring. Overall, Cinnamon Sally felt like more than just a place to sleep—it was a home base with a lot of heart (and a staff that deserves a medal for navigation support). I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Riga, especially solo travelers or anyone looking for a fun, welcoming place to stay.

AMAZING!!! At the moment u arrive staff welcome you and introduce you to the city and the hostel facilities. Every night there's an social activity in a good vibe. Open bar and breakfast are just the way it should be. Clean, welcoming and worth every penny! The only dilemma we had is how long do we want to extend our stay... Added photos of the entrance for better visual of the way to get to the place at first time.
Benny L — Google review
Nice hostel with good common areas. The free breakfast was an amazing extra for rhe accomodation! Location was a bit weird and hard to find at first (going through McDonalds) but not too far away from old town and also more quiet place in the end than old town.
Olli R — Google review
Best hostel in Riga! It is a bit tricky to get inside the hostel for the first time, but once you understand the process, there are none of the struggles left. The hostel offers different size rooms and have only female ones available as well. Besides, hostel provides it’s guests with breakfast (!), there is a mini bar here, coffee machine and tea for you to enjoy, the common room is cosy and has some books and board games in case you get bored. The showers are private and clean and the hostel even provides you with towels! The staff is what makes the experience truly unique, they are helpful, understanding and can provide with recommendations for your trip!
Urtė V — Google review
Great hostel with a cozy atmosphere, clean, friendly staff and nice breakfast. I spent only two nights here but had a great time exploring the city with some helpful tips from the staff. One of the toilets wasn't working but there was always one free in the other part of the hostel. The free breakfast is a nice bonus but could use some better options especially for vegans. There are many plants in the hostel which makes me as a plant person very happy and feel cozy. I would definitely stay here again!

I enjoyed my stay very much! I met lots of interesting people, the staff and the volunteers were great, the breakfast was lovely, the location within walking distance of the old town and right next to the central station, the bed was comfy and the room mostly quiet at night. The folk dancing excursion on Wednesday night was awesome! All in all, you made my time in Riga very enjoyable ❤️

Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Rumbula Forest Memorial, a somber and tragic site, holds great significance. Adjacent to the menorah, there are stones engraved with the names of those murdered at this location. Additionally, individual stones bear the street names of Riga Ghetto residents who met their unfortunate fate here. The unveiling of this memorial in 2002 evokes deep emotions and serves as a poignant reminder of the atrocities committed against Latvian Jews during that time.
This small memorial is important for what it represents. It isn't something to 'rate' as a visitor attraction but an essential part of history which should be respected and never forgotten.
Simon A — Google review
Impressive small graveyard with spirit of holocaust and what it made happen to those innocent jewish people. This place is beautiful and calm.
Johanna M — Google review
Such a somber place and it's true although not far from main road you can hear nothing but silence here

Seems odd to review a memorial. Things worth going to experience what it might have been like but it do with some attention and love.

Somber and utterly thought provoking one can't help but feel overwhelmed emotionally. It's a place everyone should visit, if only once, to pay silent respect to the victims of atrocity and to reflect on the evil man is always capable of projecting so it never happens again.
Nick L — Google review
The memorial is deeply moving. The contrast between the peaceful setting, with birds singing, and the horrors of the atrocities committed there is enormous. We traveled by bus and used GPS to find our way there.

Biķernieki Memorial stands as a solemn tribute to the victims of the Holocaust during World War II. It is the largest mass murder site in Latvia, encompassing over 55 marked mass burial sites where approximately 46,000 individuals are reported to have perished. The memorial's setting in a serene forest creates a poignant contrast between the beauty of nature and the darkness of human cruelty.

The sky was blue and the silence was broken only by the occasional traffic on the nearby road and the sound of birdsong. Such a beautiful, peaceful spot in the forest. It was hard to reconcile the tranquility of this place with the unimaginable horrors that were perpetrated here.

It is nice and pleasent place. I go every day after my work. I feel very fresh and refreshing. Love to see all age group people from kids to adults, birds, pets and yes of course forgotten about cycling and scooters. Awesome and cheerful always. In this summer every where greenery and water make coldest atmosphere. People are doing boating very everlasting. I enjoy my evening here to feel better for other work.
