Afternoon tea, was lovely, and so was the chef! The room however (amazing big bed) had a dirty floor, the single loo roll meant we had to call reception. The door key card didn't work, and we asked to our bins to be done, nobody bothered. The second day's peace was shattered by the inconsiderate owner having a photo shoot done. No apology, just lights and camera crew everywhere. We certainly wouldn't have stayed if we'd known. I'd have asked for a refund, if any of the managers were around next morning. Great place, patchy service, limited food options, outdated rooms. Very enjoyable place to relax. Child friendly with lots for kids to do. Amazing views and friendly staff. Our room (402) needed some updating/repair. The AC unit did not have the diffuser on it so directing the air flow was impossible (see pic). The fridge was wobbly, which was causing the door to bang the shelving unit every time it was closed (see video). Simple things to fix, and for the price of Pousada Penhasco, we would expect not to have these minor annoyances. Our room also did not have the internal glass doors which was could see on neighbouring chalets, only the metal doors with built in blinds you can open/close. Not sure why our room didn’t have these additional doors. Service was generally good, and the guys at the bar were happy to help. But every time we ordered drinks with food (5 times in total) the drinks were forgotten. Four times, we explained and they went back and brought the drink. The last time, I tried to explain in Portuguese the drink was missing and the guy never came back. It was late at night and I did not want to walk to the bar to get a drink which we’d ordered with room service. When we mentioned this the next day when presented with the food and drink bill at checkout, the reaction was not particularly supportive or understanding. As they could not verify that the can of coke was not given to us, the staff member who did not return with it, they gave us a bottle of water instead. Fair enough. Considering we’d stayed here for 5 days and our bill was around Rs.1400 - the reception staff’s annoyed reaction to disputing this one Rs.8 can of coke was disappointing and tainted our opinion of Pousada Penhasco. Lots of activities for kids to do, which is good, but again, everything looks like it needs updating/refurbishing. The table tennis equipment is damaged and old. The air hockey tables barely work. The play area/obstacle course for younger kids is great but could also do with a refurbish. Mini golf is good. The swimming pools are really well maintained and the best part of the resort. The food is decent, but after 2/3 days the options feel limited. Since the resort stopped having an evening dinner service, you have to rely on the bar food until 10pm, or travel into Chapada dos Guimarães.
