1Jungle Beach, Unawatuna.

Public beach
Nestled in Unawatuna, Jungle Beach is a serene and secluded stretch of golden sand offering stunning views of Rumassala Hill and the Indian Ocean. This biodiverse beach is home to endemic bird species and various mammals and reptiles. It's an ideal spot for snorkeling or simply unwinding amidst unspoiled surroundings.
The best beach around Unawatuna. Just a short walk from the Peace Pagoda (maybe 200m) and it is so worth it. Crystal clear water and very few people (we went around 9.00am). There is a small restaurant at the bottom (we were too early) but the drinks lady was open and she has a lovely selection including beers for later in the day.
Glenda T — Google review
Jungle Beach is a little hidden paradise. Tucked away from the crowds, it may not be the easiest place to reach—the access is a bit tricky—but that’s exactly what makes it so special. Once you arrive, you’re rewarded with a small, intimate beach surrounded by lush greenery and crystal waters. There’s a tiny restaurant and a coconut shop right on the sand, perfect for grabbing a fresh drink or a quick bite while you relax. The vibe is peaceful, natural, and unspoiled—ideal for spending a few hours swimming, sunbathing, or just soaking in the atmosphere. It’s not about luxury here, but about simplicity and raw beauty. Jungle Beach is proof that sometimes the best treasures are the ones hidden off the beaten path.
Alejandro F — Google review
Lots of trash in the overall dirty water. The beach by itself + the restaurant is really nice though. See photos. Relaxing. Just follow the restaurant signs and you will be there. Take the first entrance through the fence. There are two entrances for two separate parts of the beach. Ask locals nearby.

Jungle Beach in Unawatuna is an absolute hidden gem! Tucked away behind a lush green forest, getting there feels like a small adventure. Once you arrive, it’s completely worth it. The beach is stunning, with clear turquoise water, soft golden sand, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels far removed from the crowds. It’s a perfect spot for swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing under the shade of the trees while listening to the sound of the waves. The water is calm and crystal clear, often allowing you to see colorful fish right near the shore. What makes Jungle Beach so special is its balance of seclusion and natural beauty. It’s a little piece of paradise surrounded by nature, ideal for anyone looking for tranquility and breathtaking scenery. Definitely one of the most beautiful and memorable beaches in the Unawatuna area!
Kavinda D — Google review
Beautiful location with an amazing view of the sea. The beach offers a calm and relaxing atmosphere, but you must be careful when bathing as the water can be unpredictable. The natural beauty of the place is affected by the waste left behind by some local visitors. Bottles, cans, and other garbage have made the area quite dirty. Anyone visiting should respect the environment, enjoy the beauty, and take back everything they bring. This helps protect the beach for everyone.
Hasanka S — Google review
Jungle Beach is a hidden paradise where the lush green meets the sparkling blue. 🌴💙 The moment you step onto the sand, it feels like walking into a postcard—absolutely breathtaking, a true wow experience. With plenty of parking and little shops nearby, it’s as convenient as it is magical. A place where nature does all the talking, and you just sit back and fall in love with the view.
Mohamed F — Google review
I really loved my time at Jungle Beach. The little walk through the trees made it feel like I was heading to a secret place. When I got there, it was so quiet and peaceful, just the sound of the waves and birds. The water was calm and great for swimming, and I even saw a few monkeys in the trees! It’s not a crowded tourist spot, which made it feel extra special. If you're looking to relax and enjoy a bit of nature, this place is perfect
Minhaj — Google review
The beach is filthy, covered in litter, plastics bags wrap around your legs in the water. People relax on daybeds taking up most of the sand, surrounded by garbage, disappointing. Most of it is probably washed up from elsewhere, refuse plastic shopping bags whenever you can so they don't end up as trash on the beaches or strangling the marine life.

The Japanese Peace Pagoda, located on Rumassala Hill near Unawatuna, is a serene Buddhist temple with a circular deck offering stunning views of the Indian Ocean and the surrounding landscapes. Constructed with the assistance of Japanese monks, this monumental stupa stands as a symbol of peace for people of all nationalities and faiths. Visitors can access the pagoda via a shaded path and will be greeted by its towering white structure adorned with gold-painted statues.
Japanese peace pagoda is situated at the top of Roomassala overlooking the Indian ocean. The temple is very calm, quiet with a stunning view of the sea and it has the ability to bring peace to your mind. I personally can stay for hours on end sitting on the temple grounds feeling the calming sea breeze, smelling the salty sea area and just looking at either the pagoda or the sea. Additionally, the monks hold a ritual at the evening like a prayer where they play a drum repeatedly. You can also participate in the ritual if you go to the temple in the evening. The temple is less crowded as well, so it is a perfect place to escape from the world for a brief moment.
Chamindu L — Google review
Beautiful! We recommend you to visit this place. Make sure to cover shoulders and knees to visit. Parking is possible all the way up (500rps). The visit was free, but we donated some rps to the monk who resides there since 2004. He was really friendly and welcoming. Try to avoid moments when they do celebrations because it gets really crowded. Possibility to attend group ceremonies. Hours are shown there.
Norman — Google review
The Japanese Peace Pagoda at Rumassala is a truly serene place. Set on a hill above Unawatuna, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean, Galle Bay, and even the Galle Fort in the distance. Sunset here is especially beautiful. Recommended to visit in the morning or evening, since afternoon is too hot. The stupa itself is spotless white and surrounded by thick jungle, creating a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. It was built by Japanese monks, and you can often hear soft chanting or ringing of the temple bell, which adds to the calmness. Access is easy by tuk-tuk, or you can hike up through the Jungle Beach trail if you prefer a bit of adventure. Entry is free, though donations are welcome. Free vehicle parking is also available. Just remember to dress modestly as it’s an active place of worship.
TD — Google review
This is a really nice and calm place which gives a fascinating view of the nearby Galle harbor and fort. To watch the sunset, this is a good place. Vibrant red and orange colors mixed with the reflection of the Galle sea makes it really beautiful.

A really calm place surrounded by jungle..... The place is so quiet and relaxing. Good for meditation. And the Buddhist monk there was really friendly. On top of that the view of Galle city is priceless 🤌🤌. A place you should visit once in your lifetime. Enjoy the place. Highly recommend. There are vendors besides the roads, make sure to drink a fresh king coconut as well. It's worth it .

Galle International Cricket Stadium, located near the Galle Fort, is renowned for its picturesque setting and hosts domestic and international matches. The stadium holds historical significance as it was severely damaged by the 2004 tsunami but was restored with contributions from former Australian cricketer Shane Warne. Notably, it witnessed Muttiah Muralitharan's last match and his 800th wicket in 2010.
Amazing place. A cricket loving crowed . The grass area vibes are fantastic even if it is a teat match. The tickets re cheap the food is also inside very cheap. If you go to the grass area take something to sit is you dont want to sit in the grass and ofcourse cap and umbrella.

Galle International Cricket Stadium offers a fantastic setting for watching a live match. The atmosphere is vibrant, with passionate local fans creating an exciting energy that’s hard to match. The facilities are modern, and the seating arrangement provides great visibility from most spots. Whether you're in the stands or the hospitality area, you're in for a thrilling experience. The stadium is known for its beautiful, unique location, making it one of the most scenic cricket grounds in the world. If you're a cricket fan, the chance to watch a match here is something you’ll remember for years to come. The combination of world-class cricket, breathtaking surroundings, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere makes Galle International Cricket Stadium a must-visit destination for sports enthusiasts. Highly recommend attending a match here for an unforgettable cricket experience!
Mohamed S — Google review
Galle International Cricket Stadium is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the world. Nestled between the historic Galle Fort and the vast Indian Ocean, this venue offers a stunning panoramic view that makes watching cricket here a truly unforgettable experience. What makes this stadium so unique is not just its scenic backdrop, but also the intimate atmosphere it offers. The ground is compact compared to many international venues, which allows spectators to feel incredibly close to the action. Whether you're sitting in the stands or viewing from the Galle Fort ramparts, the view of the pitch is clear and engaging. The cool sea breeze adds to the charm, especially during longer Test matches. The stadium has seen some iconic moments in cricket history, especially in Sri Lankan cricket. It's often been a stronghold for spin bowlers, and the local crowd brings an infectious energy during matches. For cricket fans, it's like visiting a sacred ground of the sport. The surrounding area is equally worth exploring. Just across the road is the majestic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the quaint streets filled with cafes, colonial architecture, and small shops make it a perfect place to stroll before or after a match. Facilities at the stadium are decent, and though basic in some areas, the overall experience more than makes up for it. If you are a cricket lover visiting Sri Lanka, Galle International Stadium is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Amol G — Google review
Galle Cricket Stadium, a compact arena nestled amidst the embrace of Galle Fort and the ocean, presents a unique cricketing experience. This small yet captivating ground is a lush expanse of green, where the game's essence mingles with natural beauty. While the setting is picturesque, the facilities stand in need of an upgrade to align with modern stadium standards. However, the pitch itself holds its ground – well-maintained and perfectly centered, setting the stage for thrilling matches. The juxtaposition of history and sports adds a distinct charm, as the Galle Fort and ocean provide an enchanting backdrop. It's an intimate space that fosters an unparalleled connection between players and spectators. Visiting the Galle Cricket Stadium offers more than just a cricket match; it's a rendezvous with history and a celebration of the sport. Amidst its scenic beauty, a sense of nostalgia lingers, creating a memorable experience for both sports enthusiasts and explorers of the past.

Galle Dutch Fort, originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later renovated by the Dutch and British, is a well-preserved sea fort that now houses museums, shops, and cafes. The area surrounding the fort is bustling with various businesses and restaurants. A visit to this historical site offers a glimpse into the architectural wonders of colonial powers. Despite its small size, there are numerous remarkable places to explore within the fort.
Galle Dutch Fort is an incredible place to visit — full of history, charm, and beautiful views. Walking along the ramparts at sunset is a highlight, with stunning scenery over the ocean on one side and the old town on the other. Inside the fort, the narrow streets are filled with colonial buildings, cafes, shops, and museums, all blending history with a relaxed coastal vibe. It’s well-preserved, easy to explore on foot, and has something for everyone, whether you’re into history, photography, or just enjoying the atmosphere. A must-visit when in Sri Lanka.
Bashar A — Google review
Visiting Galle Fort at night was an unforgettable experience. The moment I stepped inside the old stone walls, I felt a sense of calm and wonder. The entire fort had a peaceful atmosphere, very different from the daytime buzz. The narrow cobbled streets were softly lit with warm streetlights, and the cool breeze from the ocean made the walk even more refreshing. The historic charm of the Dutch architecture stood out beautifully under the night sky. Many small shops and cafés were still open, offering a cozy and welcoming vibe. Some had soft music playing, and the aroma of coffee and local food filled the air. The view from the fort walls was breathtaking — looking out at the dark sea under a sky full of stars was truly magical. There were couples walking hand-in-hand, friends laughing, and even solo travelers like me simply enjoying the moment. Everything felt safe and relaxed. Galle Fort at night is perfect if you’re looking for a quiet place to reflect, take photos, or just enjoy the beauty of history meeting the ocean. It’s not just a place to visit, it’s a place to feel. I highly recommend experiencing it after sunset — it has a charm you won’t find anywhere else.

We had such a wonderful time exploring the Galle Dutch Fort as a couple with our 10-year-old. It’s such a charming place — full of history, character, and amazing ocean views. We visited the lighthouse, clock tower, and walked along the rampart walls, catching the sunset from Flag Rock Bastion Point — absolutely stunning! The golden light over the ocean made it feel magical. We also enjoyed a bit of shopping at Spa Ceylon and Barefoot, wandered through the quaint alleys, and treated ourselves to some ice cream before having dinner at one of the food courts near the entrance. The blend of colonial architecture, relaxed vibe, and sea breeze made it a perfect family evening. Highly recommend spending a few hours here — it’s one of the most beautiful spots in Sri Lanka! 🌅🏰🌊

Lovely old town. Nice to walk around the fort, which takes you around 1h. Everything is free, but there are a lot of tuktuk drivers/taxi drivers who try to sell you a tour (you can easily explore on your own and read some signs for information) Good history.
Marnix M — Google review
Taking long walks along the ramparts, enjoying splendid ocean views, mingling with locals and lazing at cosy restaurants and cafés are the best ways to relax before your long flight back home. was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards
Eranga A — Google review
Visiting Galle Fort in Sri Lanka was one of the highlights of my journey through the island. The moment I stepped inside the fort’s gates, I felt like I was walking into a living piece of history. Built in the 16th century by the Portuguese and later expanded by the Dutch, Galle Fort is not just a UNESCO World Heritage Site—it’s a vibrant blend of culture, history, and everyday life. What struck me most was the unique atmosphere. Unlike many historical sites that feel frozen in time, Galle Fort is alive. Families live here, children play cricket in the streets, locals run small cafés and boutiques, and travelers like me stroll around, soaking in the charm. The cobbled streets, colorful colonial-era buildings, and mix of European and South Asian influences create a character that feels both timeless and welcoming. Walking along the fort walls at sunset was unforgettable. The Indian Ocean stretched endlessly before me, waves crashing gently against the rocks below. Locals and visitors gathered to watch the sky change colors, and the lighthouse stood proudly as a symbol of resilience. It was one of those rare travel moments where everything feels perfectly in place. Inside the fort, I loved exploring its hidden corners—quirky shops selling handicrafts, art galleries, and cozy cafés where you can sip a cup of Sri Lankan tea. The laid-back vibe makes it easy to lose track of time. What makes Galle Fort truly special is how it balances its rich heritage with a vibrant present. It’s not just a monument—it’s a living town with stories unfolding every day. For any traveler heading to Sri Lanka, Galle Fort is more than worth the visit; it’s an experience that lingers long after you leave.

Jungle Beach, located at the opposite end of Unawatuna Beach, is a compact sand beach that offers a secluded escape from the city bustle. It is popular for swimming and sunbathing, with the option to enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving amidst sparkling coral reefs and schools of fish. Visitors can trek to the beach or opt for a boat ride to reach its verdant stretches.
One of the most beautiful and peacefully enjoyable beach in southern Sri Lanka Access to the beach is a mini adventure walk through the jungle, there are foot-traps to climb down the rocky steps. Once you get down you get the whole beach for you. If you need any canned beverages or any fruit drinks, you can approach the two stalls established at the entrance of the beach. That have nice set of beach umbrellas and beach beds set up there, you can use them if you buy stuff from the shops. Otherwise still you have the entire beach to enjoy, no-one is going to ask for any money. Beverages are bit expensive as this is a bit of a remote place, starting from LKR 500 to 2500. Usually the sea is smooth but you will experience big waves randomly that rises about 5 feet. If you enjoy with proper attention, it is not a bad place to be at all. This place gives you a good vibe with different surrounding experience as one side you see the sea, and other side is a mountain fully covered with a nice green jungle. I would more call it a nature hideout. Go, enjoy, please make sure you do not leave any rubbish, only your footsteps on the nice sandy beach, and bring back nice memories!

It's a lovely beach but all over the rocks and the pathway it has been littered with beer can and alcohol bottles. It was disheartening to see , as the beach is so beautiful. Hopefully they organized a clean up of the area and maintain it better.

Jungle Beach is a true tropical paradise! Hidden between lush greenery and crystal-clear waters, it offers a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. The beach is clean, peaceful, and great for swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying nature. The walk through the jungle to reach the beach adds a touch of excitement, and once you arrive, the view is simply breathtaking. It's less crowded than other beaches, making it ideal for those who want a quiet and scenic escape. A must-visit spot in Unawatuna

Jungle Beach is a hidden and beautiful beach surrounded by the jungle. Sadly, it is also polluted in some areas with litter, which takes away its natural beauty. To get there, you need to walk down a short trail from the vehicle parking area, which is easy to find and not very long. The view is fantastic. The beach can get crowded most of the time, especially on weekends.

A small trek through the cliffs gets you to this calm, secluded beach. Its very untouched in many ways. The water is clean, the surroundings well maintained. The hardly any people. Only tourists form nearby resorts would trek to this beach. The waves were not too strong and perfectly safe for swimming. You can also find a small cafe which serves drinks and food. Very nice place to hangout. There are no activities such as snorkeling or surfing. I would highly recommend visiting Jungle beach if staying in unawatuna. ⛱️

Jungle Beach is one of the best beach spots to enjoy with friends and family. It’s a beautiful and relaxing place to visit — perfect for swimming, hanging out, and having a great time together 👌🏽
Praveen — Google review
Jungle Beach is a truly beautiful and serene location that absolutely deserves its place as a popular tourist attraction. Nestled between lush greenery and the ocean, the setting is calm and peaceful, offering a relaxing escape from the busy city life. Despite its quiet atmosphere, the beach often attracts a fair number of visitors, especially during peak times. The shoreline is shallow, making it suitable for light swimming, though caution is always advised. Lifeguards are usually present, but it's wise to check before entering the water. Access to the beach involves a short walk of approximately 200 meters through a slightly rugged but enjoyable trail, adding to the adventure and charm of the visit. Jungle Beach is ideal for those who love a mix of natural beauty, calm vibes, and a touch of exploration. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone looking for a peaceful beach experience.

Sea Turtle Hatchery Centre, Mahamodara is a family-run conservation center dedicated to rescuing and protecting sea turtles. The center houses tanks for injured turtles as well as newly hatched babies. Visitors have the opportunity to witness the release of turtles into the sea and can even participate in this event. The hatchery also offers guided tours where guests can learn about turtle feeding, egg hatching, and night-time egg searches.
They are protecting sea turtles, commonly 5 types of turtles found in Sri Lanka in which 3 are rare. They only put the injured ones here permanently. They rescue them and release them 25kms in the sea from the beach. They also purchase eggs from fishermen and hatch them. Keep them there not more than 3 months. They dont do breeding there. Only hatch them and rescue them. Dont forget 2k for foreigners and 1k for locals entry fees
Muhammad S — Google review
Visited the sea turtle farm recently. As a local, the entrance fee was Rs. 500, which is reasonable. The place is decent and seems more geared toward tourists. If you're genuinely interested in sea turtles or conservation, it's worth a quick visit. But if you're not that into it, you might find it a bit underwhelming—probably better to just stay outside and enjoy the view. Overall, a good initiative, just not very engaging for everyone.
Jerome V — Google review
Paid Rs 2000 for entrance as a foreigner. They share with you lots of information about the initiative and how the safe and rescue the turtle. If your really interested in turtles then migh be worth a visit. The whole experience takes about 10 min. Its not really for everyone. If you have no entrance in turtles then might be disappointed or find it underwhelming. The kids however might enjoy it. We had a great experience at this turtle hatchery. It is a nice place where you can clearly see the conservation efforts in action. It's heartwarming to know that they treat the animals well and prioritize their care. The staff were also fantastic, they were very friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even more enjoyable. A truly worthwhile and positive stop for anyone interested in marine life and conservation. Highly recommended!

Not worth for the Price. (1000 LKR Local | 2000 LKR Foreign) I recently visited this sea turtle hatchery center. They have several kinds of turtles, including some rare species, which was interesting to see. However, I felt the ticket price for locals (LKR 1000) was too high and not worth the value provided. The maintenance costs may be significant, but there are other hatcheries that charge less while offering a more engaging and informative experience.

Doing great stuff for conservation of Turtles. Very informative host. 2000 LKR to get in but we wanted to give more because of the great work they are doing.

Please listen to the negative reviews and do not visit this place. It is only a business, without the aim to help turtles. There is a big (~0.5 m, many years old) blind turtle in a square pool with size of 1.5 meters. They told us, that this old turtle was born there and shall be released to a bigger pool in the next weeks, even if this was true it would mean that this turtle lived there several years in minimum space. You have to pay 10000 rupees to release baby turtles to the sea. This does not seem like they want to do something positive for these animals. The entry is 2000 rupees per person to see these creatures suffer in very small pools without any sea plants or other natural looking stuff. It is sad, that this is allowed by Sri Lanka government.

one of the most memorable and heart-touching experiences we had in Sri Lanka. It’s an absolutely incredible place where you can see how much care and love goes into protecting and rescuing sea turtles. We got the chance to release baby turtles into the ocean — it was such a magical and emotional moment! In the evening, we also helped feed the turtles with fresh fish, which was really fun and exciting. The staff were very kind and explained everything clearly, sharing lots of interesting information about how they rescue injured turtles and protect their eggs. The location is also stunning — you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset right by the beach after your visit. The whole atmosphere is peaceful and filled with positive energy. You can truly feel that all the funds go towards the turtles’ wellbeing. Highly recommend this place to everyone visiting Galle! It’s not just a tourist stop it’s a meaningful experience that helps support nature and marine life.

Galle Lighthouse, located within the historic Galle Fort in Sri Lanka, is a significant maritime structure with a rich history. Originally built by the British in the 19th century and now maintained by the Sri Lanka Port Authority, this cylindrical tower offers panoramic views of ships entering Galle harbor. It played a crucial role during world wars and continues to guide fishing boats today.
Galle Lighthouse ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Sunset Views & Ocean Charm The Galle Lighthouse, standing tall on the southeastern tip of the fort, offers spectacular Indian Ocean vistas and is perfect for photography enthusiasts. Highlights: Sunset walks along the ramparts, the lighthouse itself, and panoramic views of the bay. Nearby Spots: Flag Rock Bastion and small cafés—ideal for a relaxed snack or coffee. Tip: Best visited late afternoon to sunset for soft lighting and fewer crowds. Even if you’re short on time, the lighthouse alone is worth the stroll—it captures the essence of the fort’s coastal charm.

The oldest lighthouse in Sri Lanka, built originally by the British, it's located within Galle fort with breathtaking views of the sunset and ocean in general. It is walkable from the main entrance to the fort, and the fort area in general is beautiful all around so it's worth the walk. Go here in the evenings or mornings for nice sea breeze and dawn / dusk views. The heat during other parts of the day can be dissuading, so go prepared with hydration and sun protection.

We visited the Galle Fort Lighthouse as a couple with our 10-year-old, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! Watching the sunset by the lighthouse was absolutely magical — the sky turning shades of gold and pink over the ocean made it a picture-perfect moment. The area around the lighthouse is peaceful yet lively, with people strolling along the ramparts, enjoying the breeze, and capturing photos. Our kid loved exploring the spot and watching the waves crash against the rocks below. It’s a must-visit when in Galle Fort — especially during sunset. The view, the atmosphere, and the history all come together to create an unforgettable experience. 🌅⚓️🇱🇰

We visited the Galle Fort Lighthouse (on 2nd Nov) and had an unexpected but absolutely lovely experience. We originally thought it wasn’t possible to go inside, but then the door opened — and there stood the lighthouse keeper, Wigerarthne. He kindly guided us all the way to the top, where the view was simply magnificent. Afterwards, he took the time to explain the significance and the workings of the lighthouse. It was clear that Wigerarthne truly loves what he does. A wonderful and memorable visit – thank you, Wigerarthne!

The Galle Fort Lighthouse is truly one of the most iconic and picturesque spots in Sri Lanka. Located at the edge of the historic Galle Fort, it offers stunning panoramic views of the ocean, the ramparts, and the charming colonial architecture around. The area is beautifully maintained, and the lighthouse itself stands tall as a timeless symbol of Galle’s maritime heritage. It’s a great place to take a peaceful walk, enjoy the sea breeze, and capture some amazing photos—especially around sunset when the light hits the waves perfectly. The whole area around the lighthouse feels calm and filled with history, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring the Fort. Whether you’re visiting for the views, the history, or just to unwind by the ocean, the Galle Fort Lighthouse never disappoints!

Beautiful, photogenic, and knows it. You can’t go inside or climb it, but it looks amazing from every angle — like that friend who’s always camera-ready. Great for selfies, sunsets, and pretending you’re in a travel ad. Bring water, a camera, and your best “wow” face.

The most iconic light house inside the fortress. The place looks stunning at the morning and the evening(Golden hour). This whole place looks medieval type of buildings even the coffee shops. The Dutch Reformed Church, also known as Groote Kerk, is a small 18th-century structure located in Galle, Sri Lanka. While its exterior may not be particularly impressive, the interior boasts stained-glass windows and tiled floors made of tombstones. The church's sparse and cavernous interior features floor etched memorials to the city's early Dutch settlers and a carved dedication to E.A.H Abraham on the southern wall.
Really great church to check out, amazing stained glass windows and these metal flooring carvings that looked amazing, outside they had stairs leading down beneath the ground that you can’t get down to, but do look awesome. A lot of tombstones on the property.

5/5 – Iconic Historical Church in Galle Fort The Dutch Reformed Church in Galle is one of the oldest and most iconic landmarks inside the Galle Fort. You can simply walk inside and look around freely, and it really feels like stepping back in time. The architecture is beautiful and still preserves the colonial Dutch style. One of the unique things you’ll notice is that the floor is lined with old tombstones, which makes it both historic and a little unusual compared to other churches. It doesn’t take long to explore – around 10 to 15 minutes is enough to walk through, admire the details, and take a few photos. Still, it’s absolutely worth visiting as part of your Galle Fort tour because it highlights the history and culture of this coastal city. If you’re in Galle, don’t miss this stop – it’s quiet, peaceful, and full of stories from the past.

We were impressed to find an old reformed church here, as we were not ecpecting to survive next colonial period. It really worth to visit. Watch your steps: you will see tombstones!

The Dutch Reformed Church in Galle, also known as the Groote Kerk, is one of the oldest Protestant churches in Sri Lanka, dating back to 1755. Built during the Dutch colonial period, this church stands as a testament to the country's rich colonial history. Its architecture is distinct, featuring a blend of European and local styles, with a serene yet slightly worn-down appearance that adds to its historic charm. When you visit, you'll notice beautiful stained glass windows, high wooden ceilings, and intricate carvings, all reminiscent of a time long past. The church was a place of worship for the Dutch settlers and has seen centuries of history, surviving wars, colonial changes, and the passage of time. Even though it may show signs of aging, it remains an iconic part of Galle’s heritage and is a must-visit for those who appreciate both history and architecture. If you're exploring Galle Fort, it's definitely worth stepping inside to feel the calm atmosphere and admire the timeless beauty of this historical site.

Flag Rock Bastion is a historic site within the Galle Dutch Fort. It served as a signaling station to warn ships of rocky stretches in the bay, with musket shots fired from Pigeon Island near the flag rock. The nearby Triton Bastion features a windmill and offers sunset views. Flag Rock itself was a Portuguese bastion used to signal approaching ships of danger, and today it's popular for cliff-jumping and watching sunsets along the cliff-side.
We were of two minds about visiting Galle as we wondered if it might be a tourist trap but we decided to go and we are so glad we did. It is a tourist attraction but when we went at least it wasn’t that busy and it felt real. It is an amazing little place, lots of locals there and kids flying their kites which is pretty cool to see a Sri Lankan tradition in practice. It has a lot of trees and green spaces little cobbled streets, monkeys and other wildlife and of course the big Dutch built fort which is the main focal point. Recommend visit

Nestled in the heart of Galle, the Historical Mansion Museum stands as Sri Lanka's largest private museum, once home to Abdul Gaffar. This captivating venue showcases a rich tapestry of artifacts that span various eras, including antique typewriters, exquisite jewelry, and traditional crafts like Beeralu lace embroidery introduced by the Portuguese. Visitors are treated to an immersive experience that highlights the blend of cultures and architectural styles within this historic building.
Quirky small museum with a collection of just about anything set in a restored Dutch house. Kind of loved this place, full of everything from old cameras and ceramics to swords and typewriters. Free admission, but donations recommended. They ask you to not touch the glass cases or speak loudly. Tourists too often ignore this, but please respect their wishes. You are guests and should behave accordingly. Definitely worth a visit

I don’t think there’s any fee…at least we didn’t have to pay. We stopped by the museum by accident as it was raining a lot but it turned out to be a great educational session! The museum does have a lot of ancient valuables from the Dutch ship wreck. It’s amazing to see those hundreds-years-old items are well kept. There’s also a gen store inside the museum; the gentlemen there were very kind and friendly. They showed me many options of what I was looking for without forcing on a purchase. I didn’t buy anything as I needed to explore more options but they do have good gems with certification.

I visited Mr. Ameen's museum with two of my philatelic enthusiastic friends on last Saturday. We informed him earlier as we wished to meet him too. He was away for some business by the time we went there but, he left all his work behind and came to greet us. That's not all, he showed us everything he has and gave us a nice briefing of the history of his fantastic collection of antique which span almost like half a century. He was very informative and knew what he's talking about. Then he took us to another place belongs to him and showed us what's he's planning to do within next few weeks and he even offered us refreshments. It's a time well spent for all of us. I encourage you all to pay this nice gentleman a visit if you happened to go to Galle fort.

A very small but quaint museum detailing history of Galle. It is a little run down but has interesting displays of uniforms, weaponry, porcelain and furniture. Cheao entry price. The Galle National Museum, located within the historic Galle Fort, is a prominent cultural institution in Sri Lanka. It provides a glimpse into the history and heritage of the southern region of the country, focusing on its traditional crafts and colonial past. History and Building The museum is housed in a Dutch colonial building that is one of the oldest standing structures within the Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Constructed in 1656, the building originally served as a commissariat store for the Dutch garrison. It was later a billiards room for the adjacent New Oriental Hotel before being renovated and officially opened as a museum on March 31, 1986.

I may be biased as I love Maritime museums. I spent well over an hour here in this small museum and read every informational panel. Really interesting history from prehistory to colonial times and all the trade routes and partners including Dutch, British, French and Chinese. Entry seems free for locals and I had to laugh at the foreigners price which looks like its changed daily based on exchange rates with USD? It was 1818LKR for me which ensured I ended up with a handful of rupee coins as change! Only downside is their is no air con and the humidity is horrendous inside this muesum. In each room I stood in front of the one pedestal fan to try and cool myself off.

On the reserved date, ensure you arrive at Galle Harbour between 5:45–6:00 AM. The Vessel: Princess of Lanka: You will sail aboard the Princess of Lanka, a large passenger craft with a capacity of 400 passengers—much bigger than most private whale-watching boats. Navy officers provide refreshments, beverages, and fruits upon boarding. However, avoid eating too much early on, as sea sickness is common. The seats are comfortable, each equipped with a life jacket, which must be worn when venturing outside. Basic washroom facilities are also available. Before departure, officers will provide safety instructions. The Journey: The ship departs around 7:00 AM. Once it leaves the harbor, passengers can go outside. Within the first 30 minutes, many passengers may experience sea sickness. To minimize discomfort, stay outside, breathe fresh air, and focus on the horizon to help stabilize your senses. About two hours into the journey, you’ll likely encounter dolphins swimming and spinning close to the ship—a stunning and memorable sight. Around 10:00 AM, the ship reaches the whales’ habitat. Spotting whales can be challenging as they often stay submerged. The Navy ship tracks private boats to locate them. During this time, the ship may make sharp turns, and the waves can be rough, so hold on carefully. Due to its size, the Princess of Lanka is slower than smaller boats, but with some luck, you may witness a whale! Returning to Harbor: After spending some time observing whales, the ship begins its return journey. By this point, passengers are often tired and affected by the long sail and sea sickness. The ship arrives back at Galle Harbour around 12:30 PM, concluding the trip. Overall Experience: This whale and dolphin watching excursion is a unique and memorable experience. While the journey is long and sea sickness is possible, dolphin sightings are almost guaranteed. However, spotting whales depends on luck. Wishing you a safe and exciting adventure!

Sri Lanka Navy team provides excellent and professional service . Price is very reasonable. Snacks and refreshments are included. Life jackets and Life Saving Teams are onboard in case of emergency as well. Before you board to the ship just think about your ability to bare situations like boat Rides. If you are a person who get sick while travelling just have a tablet to avoid such a situation. Most of people had sea sick while Journey .we got a chance to see dolphins and whales. This experience is a lifetime experience. Highly Recommend.

This programme is run by SL NAVY. They use this A543 ship for whale watching. This ship can carry more than 100 people at once. They provide a free meal for each person too. If you feel tired you can rest inside the ship. The seats are comfortable. There is no rush at all. After we get out from the harber we were allowed to come out side and experience the real thing. After we sail for like 2h we get a chance to see hundreds of dolphines. You can see them very closely and clearly. But seen a whale is very rare. Fortunatly I got a chance to see a whale. It apeared once and came up again like after 10 minutes. When they say there is a whale you better pay your full attention to the sea. I sudgest you to burrow sunglasses and some hats because you are exposing to direct sunlight while you are outside the ship. It will be more fun if you have a pair of binoculars too. Because you can see the other ships using it. This experience is a lifetime experience. Highly Recommend.

Enjoyed Whale and Dolphin watching comfortably on Sri Lanka Navy's passenger craft 'Princess of Lanka' while adhering to the safety guidelines during pandemic situation. Sri Lanka Navy team provides excellent and professional service throughout the process from initial booking to end of the cruise. Extremely satisfied with their approach to safety and organization. Pricing is very reasonable given the available facilities and experience on board. Snacks and refreshments are included. Life jackets are provided. Medical and Life Saving Teams are onboard in case of emergency as well. Recommended for families with kids for a memorable experience, and free of charge for children below 6 years too.

Highly recommend for Dolphin and Whale watching. Safe, comfortable, guaranteed, professional service. Great for family with kids. Not the best for photographers (Will be hard to find a good spot on the deck, with the crowd). Food, drink, life jackets are provided. Cruise starts from Galle Navy camp and go towards Mirissa/Matara and back. It took about 6 hours for the ride (depends on the location of Dolphins/Whales).

Navy staff is so nice & giving a good service during the tour. It’s a safety & comfortable tour which goes around 5 hours.

Sailing from galle- go early to get seats in better places - officers are professional and Kind - contact them through WhatsApp - emailing not required - Saturdays only sailing - do not carry water bottles or food- those included in the package -( for one person they will give 2 food boxes and a water bottle) so make sure to collect each 2 boxes for 1 if you going as a group - and they have a cantin which sell products for very reasonable prices , Carry a bag with you so you can bring back the remaining fruits or anything, for kids sea sick is almost there so do the needful before onboard, upper floor deck saw more comfortable seatings but no idea about that, you can go Park vehicles inside,

Hotel
Amangalla is a luxurious hotel located within the historic Galle Fort in Sri Lanka, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel offers elegant rooms and suites with views of the fort, harbor, and lush gardens with an outdoor pool. Guests can indulge in international cuisine and traditional Sri Lankan flavors at various atmospheric dining settings, including candlelit dinners in the Dining Room, indulgent afternoon teas on the sunny veranda, and leisurely poolside lunches.
An effortlessly atmospheric, elegant, timeless stay. Unique among Aman properties, this heritage hotel is nevertheless oozing character from the evening live string music to the barbershop. If I imagine what luxury travel must have been like a century ago, this is what I picture: Polished service, decadent food, high beds with excellent mattresses! Pros: - Service: Amans are well-known for the service (even though rumour says their standards globally have slipped noticably as of late), but Amangalla is a time capsule in itself: Attentive butler service with every request attended to. - Charm: Without a doubt the most atmospheric hotel I have ever stayed at, feeling at times almost like an immersive theatre production. - Comfort: The rooms are generously laid out, with ample lounging rooms and supremely comfortable beds. The hydrotherapy suite is a nice plus. Cons: - Brusque security: The typical Aman greeting of "Welcome home Mr/Ms xxx" is replaced with a security guard blocking the front door pointedly (and ineloquently) asking "Yes?! Yes?!" about my intentions to enter the property. I understand that unlike most secluded Aman properties Amangalla is integrated with the fabric of the old city and open to the public, but after my third time in a day being halted by the same guard my patience was running quite thin. Pricing: Amans are quite expensive, but the cost is (usually) justified by the seclusion and exclusivity of the setting. At Amangalla, both are missing (as mentioned before, the main part of the ground floor is open to the public, and the property directly faces a busy main city thoroughfare). Caveat emptor I suppose - personally I found it to be decent value.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Amangalla in Galle Fort with one of my German clients, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. This hotel stands as one of the oldest and most iconic properties within the historic Galle Fort, and it beautifully blends colonial-era charm with world-class hospitality. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and professionalism. The entire team from the front desk to the restaurant staff was attentive, courteous, and consistently exceeded our expectations. My client, who has stayed at many top-tier hotels across the world, was equally impressed by the level of personalized service and attention to detail. The architecture and interiors of Amangalla are something special. The property is rich in history, with antique furniture, wide verandas, high ceilings, and well-preserved colonial touches that transport you back in time. The atmosphere is peaceful and refined, making it a perfect getaway spot right in the heart of the bustling Galle Fort. We spent a relaxing afternoon by the serene pool and enjoyed a delicious meal at the restaurant. The food was outstanding fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The traditional high tea was also a highlight, served on the veranda with views of the charming surroundings. One thing to note for future visitors is that Amangalla does not have its own dedicated parking facility. Since the hotel is located within the narrow streets of the Galle Fort, guests arriving by car may need to park a short distance away and walk to the property. While this wasn’t a major issue for us, it’s something to be aware of if you’re traveling with luggage or require easier access. That said, Amangalla remains one of the finest heritage hotels in Sri Lanka a perfect blend of history, elegance, and comfort. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Galle, whether for leisure or to host special guests. Despite the lack of parking, the overall experience is exceptional and well worth it.

Had a wonderful afternoon tea there yesterday. Cakes and savouries were delicious. My only gripe is it would have been nice to have the teapot refilled. We had to ask and were charged. Nevertheless, it was a great experience e.

This is simply the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in anywhere. The staff were exceptional. It’s a serene oasis, the food and drink is amazing and the rooms and facilities were outstanding. Dammika is truly a wonderful member of staff. I do not have enough good things to say about this place.
Tamsyn M — Google review
I’ve stayed at many top-tier hotels around the world, yet Amangalla stood out for its exceptional service, striking the perfect balance between authenticity and precision. Manager Kaya and his team are genuinely kind and solution-focused, going above and beyond to create delightful surprises and magical moments that linger in your memory. The dining is excellent, the spa house is wonderfully relaxing, and the housekeeping team makes returning to your room something to look forward to. Amangalla may not be the flashiest new hotel in town, but it delivers a 10/10 experience with meticulous attention to detail and flawless service.

The Bar at Amangalla is pure old-world charm — elegant, intimate, and beautifully preserved. The colonial-style interiors, polished wood, and calm ambiance make it feel like stepping back in time. Cocktails are expertly crafted, and the service is warm yet discreet. A perfect place to unwind after exploring Galle Fort. Timeless luxury in every detail.

We had lunch on the Veranda of the Dining Room last Sunday Oct 12th, service was good and the food wasn’t bad at all, prices were in line with the Aman Hotels and Resorts hype. The total was US$ 182 for the 4 of us without alcohol. Good experience dining there.

Stores and shopping
Located at the corner of Church Street and Pedlar Street, Barefoot is a renowned institution offering a wide array of souvenir shopping options. Opened in 2017, Karma Collection on Leyn Baan Street is another boutique store featuring fashion, art, homeware, tea, and jewelry. For unique finds, visitors can head to Stick No Bills for vintage-style posters or MM Ibrahim for bespoke gem designs.

Lovely stuff! However, you can't eat your ice cream inside the store 😂. A bit pricey... Cute tings... Do visit and buy yourself a small trinket!!!
Tarasharda I — Google review
Barefoot is a well-known stop in Colombo for those looking for high-quality textiles, handmade crafts, and art pieces. The store itself is beautifully curated, with vibrant colors, a thoughtful layout, and a wide range of items from handwoven fabrics to stationery and home decor. While we did end up purchasing a few items, the overall experience didn’t quite live up to the expectations we had—especially considering the reputation of Sri Lankan hospitality. Service was just okay. Staff were present but not particularly attentive or eager to help, which stood out given how warm and accommodating most places in Sri Lanka tend to be. One particular moment that stood out was when we saw a framed print we really liked. Unfortunately, that specific image wasn’t available as a separate print, and rather than offering to remove the print from the frame for purchase or provide an alternative solution, the staff simply said it wasn’t available. It felt like a missed opportunity for better customer service. Also, be aware that prices here are more aligned with Western standards—definitely American pricing, not local. You’re paying for design and branding. In summary: a visually lovely place to shop, but the service lacked the warmth and flexibility we’ve come to associate with Sri Lanka.

Lovely but pricey selection of souvenirs and clothing, service was friendly from the store attendants. Older clerk at the counter comes across very arrogant and unfriendly to all customers, took away from the whole experience.

Restaurant
Pedlar's Inn Cafe and Restaurant is a charming dining spot located in the heart of Galle Fort. The establishment boasts a blend of historical ambiance and modern comfort, with its antique wagon entrance, mustard walls, and Irish-pub-style interior. Since its inception in 2004, Pedlar's has been serving up a delectable array of Western dishes including pasta, sandwiches, steaks, fresh salads, and delightful desserts.
I recently visited this restaurant on a Friday and had a great experience. I ordered the spicy seafood burger, while my child had a tomato, egg, and cheese sandwich. The burger was flavorful but not overly spicy—unlike many places I’ve tried in Colombo. It came with a side of French fries and tomato sauce. The sandwich portion was much larger than we expected and was served with French fries, tomato sauce, and a fresh salad. It was delicious and mild in flavor, perfect for kids. We both had iced tea, which was just right for our taste—refreshing and well-balanced. What really stood out was the service. The staff were attentive, polite, and incredibly helpful. Everything was served quickly, and the overall service was excellent. The restaurant had a cozy, calm atmosphere, making it a lovely spot to relax and enjoy a meal. I’ll definitely be visiting again the next time I’m in Galle!

What a great dinner experience in Galle. A large and varied menu with great choices across many cuisines. The setting is quaint and it felt special walking through the varied seating options. We elected a quiet corner and we were not disappointed by the ambiance of the restaurant. Fairy lights, cute fixtures. Our meals were all delicious and full of flavour. I had a burger and it had freshness in the salad as well as a tasty chicken patty. Served with fries it was a perfect change from curries for me. If you are looking for a relaxed meal, in the beautiful old city, you will not be disappointed here.

We visited yesterday and enjoyed it so much that we came back again today! We had the spicy kottu pasta and the Sri Lankan chicken curry — both were absolutely delicious. With the curry, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary king coconut, and we were also given curd with honey to help cool things down after the spicy kottu — a thoughtful touch that made the experience even better. We also tried the papaya juice and the passion fruit with lime juice — both were out-of-this-world delicious! The staff were cheerful, helpful, and fun, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. We highly recommend this place. A big thank you to Ranga and Fouzan for making our visit so memorable! For muslim travelers, they have halal options.

The outside facade had a vintage car parked, and decor was beautiful, so we decided to walk-in. The team was welcoming and made some great food suggestions. We tried pasta in Sri Lankan style, which turned out surprisingly amazing. We even got a nice salad with it to cool our taste buds.

We had an amazing experience at Pedlar’s Inn cafe today. We ordered the grilled prawn and the Sri Lankan curry with jumbo prawns, the staff was super friendly and nice, they showed me how to eat the curry properly as I am not a local and they assisted my friend with making her food choice as she did not want something spicy. We got a complimentary king coconut with the curry, and curd with honey after to help with the spice and to emmerse us into the complete experience of eating curry in Sri Lanka, the servers were all cheerful, helpful and fun. They even taught us a few words to say in Sri Lanka like thank you and goodnight!! AMAZING experience, very highly recommended for travelers as well as anyone who wants a chill funn experience. Side note: Pedlar’s Inn Gelato across the street were very helpful when we encountered an issue with our tuktuk and let us sit there an wait until the issue was solved.

The Galle Fort Hotel is a luxurious accommodation housed in an 18th-century Dutch mansion, offering 11 suites and a range of amenities. This boutique hotel has received numerous accolades for its exceptional service and historical significance. Guests can enjoy a refined dining experience at the hotel's restaurant, while also exploring nearby dining options such as Fort Printers, Chambers, Church Street Social, and more.
From the moment I arrived at the hotel I received exceptional service. Enjoying a gin & tonic in the lounge during the check-in process was a most enjoyable experience. Nice, quiet and refined hotel in an ancient Dutch mansion from the XVIIth century. The place has around 11 rooms on the courtyard where there is a small garden and a pool. The service is of high quality, the team will take care of you. Rooms have kept the original architecture, with some rooms having a very heightened ceiling. Rooms are decorated with care, bathrooms are qualitative.

Wow! Galle Fort Hotel was everything we wanted and more. Our room-ACH- had such interesting features including a circular staircase to a loft with a second bed. The master four poster bed was comfortable and firm. And the bathroom was spacious and modern. Fresh drinking water is supplied in the room along with a nice French press for coffee and kettle with a nice selection of tea. Outdoor Activities
Unawatuna Beach is a popular destination for beach holidays, offering a variety of water sports and activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, and surfing. The area also features attractions like the Japanese Peace Pagoda and nearby beaches like Rumassala, Yatagala Rajamaha Viharaya, Jungle Beach, Mihiripenna Beach, and Dalawella Beach. Visitors can explore turtle hatcheries focused on conservation efforts and may even witness turtles laying eggs along the shoreline.
Unawatuna Beach is truly a must-visit destination for both Sri Lankans and foreign travelers alike. The natural beauty of this beach is breathtaking — its distinct curved shoreline and gentle sea waves offer a relaxing, eye-pleasing atmosphere that immediately captures your attention. We felt we could easily stay here for days without doing anything — it’s that visually pleasing and peaceful. Just being by the shore, listening to the waves, and taking in the view is more than enough to make time feel like it’s standing still. It’s the kind of place that naturally encourages you to slow down and simply enjoy the moment. For those seeking a bit more activity, boat rides and other water-based experiences are available. These are typically offered by local boat operators, and prices are flexible based on direct negotiation. It’s best to discuss your preferences and agree on the details before heading out. There’s a good mix of local vendors, eateries, and accommodations nearby, making it easy to plan a comfortable stay. Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation, Unawatuna delivers both in its own charming way. Overall, this is undoubtedly one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka — highly recommended for families, couples, or solo travelers who want to experience nature, comfort, and coastal bliss all in one place.
Chathura J — Google review
Unawatuna Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka, famous for its golden sand and calm blue water. It’s perfect for swimming, relaxing, and watching the sunset. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby, making it a great place to spend the whole day enjoying the sea and the atmosphere.
Buddika G — Google review
Unawatuna Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka, clean golden sand, clear water, and a perfect place to relax or take a swim. The sunset views are absolutely stunning, and there are plenty of beach cafés and restaurants around to enjoy good food and drinks with a view. It’s great for families, couples, and even solo travelers who just want to chill. The water is usually calm and safe for swimming, especially in the morning. Evenings can get a bit crowded, but the atmosphere is lively and fun. Parking can be a little tricky during weekends, and it’s better to go early if you want a good spot near the beach. Overall, a must-visit beach for anyone traveling to the south coast peaceful, scenic, and full of good vibes! 🌊☀️
Usama S — Google review
The water is murky, brown, like a river. The rightmost part of the beach (calm from the waves) has a terrible bottom: the first 15-20 meters are shallow sand with small pebbles, but beyond that lie large, sharp rocks that could easily hurt a tall person's legs. It's very difficult for a good swimmer to swim comfortably and far.
Vitaly F — Google review
A lively and beautiful beach with golden sand and a vibrant atmosphere. There are plenty of cafes and bars offering sunbeds, towels, delicious seafood, and refreshing drinks. However, it’s a good idea to check in advance whether they have proper washroom and changing facilities. Boat rides and other water activities are available. One of the best beaches in Sri Lanka!
Armine S — Google review
My visit to Unawatuna Beach was nothing short of magical, and it’s easy to see why this is one of Sri Lanka’s most beloved coastal gems. From the moment I set foot on its golden sands, I was captivated by the stunning beauty, relaxed vibe, and crystal-clear waters. This beach absolutely deserves a 5-star rating for its natural charm, vibrant atmosphere, and postcard-perfect scenery. Unawatuna Beach is everything you’d dream of in a tropical getaway—soft golden sand, swaying palm trees, and warm turquoise waters that gently lap the shore. The crescent-shaped bay is naturally protected by a coral reef, making the waters calm and ideal for swimming, even for beginners. The surrounding greenery and distant rock formations add to the breathtaking scenery, creating a true paradise for nature lovers and photographers alike. Whether you want to sunbathe, snorkel, or simply unwind, Unawatuna has it all. The calm waves make it a great spot for swimming and snorkelling, especially near the coral reefs where colorful fish dart around. For the more adventurous, there are options for diving, surfing (nearby Dalawella Beach), and even boat rides to spot turtles and explore nearby islands. I loved just floating in the warm water, watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of orange and pink. What makes Unawatuna truly special is its laid-back yet lively beach culture. The shore is lined with charming beach bars, cafes, and restaurants serving everything from fresh seafood to traditional Sri Lankan curries. Sipping a coconut under a palm tree while listening to the waves was pure bliss. At night, the beach transforms with cozy lantern-lit dinners and occasional live music, creating a magical ambiance. Unlike some overcrowded tourist beaches, Unawatuna strikes the perfect balance—vibrant yet not overly commercialized. The beach is well-kept, with locals and authorities ensuring cleanliness. Lifeguards are present, adding a sense of safety for swimmers. The nearby town offers plenty of guesthouses, boutique hotels, and amenities while maintaining a relaxed, unspoiled feel. Unawatuna Beach is more than just a beautiful coastline—it’s an experience. Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple seeking romance, or a family looking for fun in the sun, this beach has something for everyone. The combination of natural beauty, exciting activities, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a top-tier destination. Visit early in the morning for a serene swim or stay for sunset when the sky turns into a masterpiece! Also, don’t miss trying fresh seafood at one of the beachfront restaurants.

Unawatuna Beach – A Must-Visit on Sri Lanka’s South Coast Unawatuna Beach is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous and loved coastal destinations, and after visiting, I can see why. Located just a few minutes from Galle, it’s the perfect blend of natural beauty, relaxing vibes, and plenty of things to do. Getting There: It’s about a 10–15 minute drive from Galle Fort. Tuk-tuks are the easiest way to get here, but you can also take a local bus or hire a scooter if you want to explore the surrounding area. Best Time to Visit: The sea is calmest from November to April, with crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Early morning is peaceful, while sunset turns the beach into a magical golden paradise. What to Do: • Swimming & Relaxing: The water is warm and gentle most days, making it great for families. • Snorkeling: Near the western end, you can spot colorful fish and even sea turtles. • Beach Walks: The curved bay is ideal for long, scenic walks. • Food & Drinks: Plenty of beachfront cafés and restaurants offer fresh seafood, tropical juices, and cocktails. • Nearby Attractions: Jungle Beach, Japanese Peace Pagoda, and Galle Fort are all within easy reach. Why It’s Special: Unawatuna has a unique mix of laid-back charm and vibrant beach life. You can spend the morning lounging under palm trees, enjoy water sports in the afternoon, and then listen to live music by the sea at night. The locals are friendly, and the area feels safe for solo travelers as well. If you’re visiting Sri Lanka’s south coast, make sure Unawatuna Beach is on your list. Come for a day… but don’t be surprised if you end up staying longer!

Nestled within the historic Galle Fort, Spa Ceylon Galle Fort IV - Spa & Boutique is a serene sanctuary that beautifully marries ancient Ayurvedic traditions with modern luxury. This enchanting spa offers an array of royal rituals designed to rejuvenate your body, mind, and soul. As you step inside, you're greeted by delightful aromas of sandalwood, lemongrass, and tropical blooms that create a calming atmosphere reminiscent of a royal citadel.
I recently visited Spa Ceylon in Galle and was thoroughly impressed by the outstanding service provided by the staff. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism. The staff were incredibly skilled, attentive to my needs, and ensured I was completely comfortable throughout my shopping . The ambience was serene and relaxing, which added to the overall rejuvenating experience. I highly recommend Spa Ceylon Galle this outlet for anyone looking for exceptional service and a luxurious experience with the products . A big thank you to Miss Nisansala and team for making my visit so memorable !!!

I love Spa Ceylon shop and always want to buy something. It's always difficult to decide what to get and I was very happy that the staff was very patient, friendly and helpful, I spent an hour choosing the right product. Very satisfied with the service.

I have a mixed review. I’ve been into 3 Spa Ceylon shops in Sri Lanka and firstly I think they’re an absolute visual feast. They truly are gorgeous so a huge congratulations to the interior designers, stylists and brand designers. The staff look beautiful. The packaging is magnificent and the products smells and sound amazing. I bought many gifts here. The only thing I don’t like is that a staff member often follows you around and watches you a lot. It gets very uncomfortable. In the Negombo branch it’s a small shop with 1 staff member and she was lovely and very knowledgable and helpful but in the others, including Galle, they don’t offer to help you, they just follow you around and watch you. We also had treatments at the Galle Spa- the 90minutes luxurious foot ritual which sadly we were both very disappointed in. Firstly we had to pay before the treatment which I’ve never done anywhere in the world at any spa. The room was downstairs and very noisy, people kept walking in and out, it was not a visually pretty space at all. Felt like a basement. The therapists had to keep walking in and out the swinging doors to get products which was both noisy and at one point we stay for 10 mins alone before they came back with warm towels. The spoke to each other throughout the treatment. The foot massage was excellent and I wish we had just booked and paid for a 30min foot massage as the rest was a waste of time and money. It included a neck and shoulder massage which was so uncomfortable. We had to sit up and then halfway move to a stool without back support. I was wearing a dress and my therapist was trying to get underneath it and my underwear. The massage was awful. The treatment had definitely not been thought through from a logistics point of view and we left feeling so disappointed as it was really expensive. My advice is just to go and enjoy looking at the beautiful shop.

Lovely place to get gifts for yourself and loved ones. The products smell so so good! The service was very good and everyone was super pleasant and approachable. I went to get one thing but ended up with many things because of the great customer service. I did not mind being nudged to buy because it was not done aggressively. Now I have gifts for occasions coming up!

I had a wonderful experience at Spa Ceylon thanks to the exceptional service provided by Mr. Imas. He was incredibly friendly, always smiling, and made me feel truly welcomed. His warm hospitality and professional attitude really stood out. Mr. Imas took the time to explain the products patiently and helped me find exactly what I needed without being pushy. He was very kind and helpful. I really appreciated his service.

Dutch Market Gewürzmarkt, located on Main Street, is a historic market that has been in operation for over 300 years. Visitors can explore stalls offering fresh produce and browse through spice shops lining the street. Additionally, early morning visitors have the opportunity to experience the lively fish market by the beach, where fishing boats return with the day's catch, creating a bustling atmosphere filled with activity.
In this market can buy local vegetables and leaves.
Asela L — Google review
be careful. There is a man who approaches you in a very friendly manner. He tells you about the tsunami and mentions that he is on his way to the city. He also mentions that you can buy spices and tea much cheaper in the “Dutch market”. He also mentioned to us that there was an Ayurvedic oil for mosquito bites and described what it looked like. Quite by chance he had to go in the same direction. everything was very perfidious. it's a scam. The oil apparently doesn't help against mosquitoes and is sold at far too high a price. Go to the city yourself and buy the spices yourself. Don't follow this guy.
Anja H — Google review
We are so glad we did not go to this place, especially after reading these reviews. But we did come across this said scammer, who told us he was on the way to pick up his kids and that he could bring us to the market. We did not take up his offer as we wanted to head back to our hotel to rest. We were just about to visit this market but decided to have a look at the reviews. We will definitely not be going. Happy travels, and be alert, guys! 😊
Audrey K — Google review
A friendly-looking man will approach you near Galle Fort. He’s slightly balding but has dreadlock-like hair, noticeable gaps between his teeth, and talks smoothly. He’ll start a casual conversation, asking where you’re from and then telling you about a so-called “Dutch Market” where you can buy cheap souvenirs for home. Conveniently, he says he’s heading that way anyway to pick up his child from school and mentions he’s a fisherman with 7 boats to add credibility. We didn’t fall for it — but be alert! This is a common tourist scam in Galle. Avoid following him.
Allard B — Google review
This is a «local» market targetting tourists. There are a lot of fruit sellers and some tourist shops. The only authentic shop we saw was the basket weaver shop. The fruit offered here is good and exotic. King cocnuts, Lankan pineapple and lemin banana ++++, so anywhay its worth a small visit if tou’re in the area. I wouldnt go here for this market. In the sidestreets there are more true local shops.
Trond S — Google review
This is not a review of the market itself... just a review of the SCAMMER... old toothless man near the fort offering to take you there and asking you to buy powdered milk for his child... He is a SCAMMER!!! The review here by Daniel M. describes it perfectly (read it). I have been traveling extensively worldwide for over 45 years and don't get scammed easily... BUT... this old man got me too 😲😔... He's sweet and disarming with a story about the 2004 Tsunami disaster... BUT DON'T FALL FOR IT. If you end up at the store about to buy powdered milk for his pretend kids and he tells you the price of 3900 😲😲😲.. It's time to back out. Just say NO and walk out of the store without another word. TRUST me (and the other reviewers on this) 💪🙏
Chris L — Google review
Scam area. How it works: a toothless 50 yrs old guy will approach you in the street and offer to help you find a good market. He’ll say he loves your country and doctors from your country helped him during the tsunami. He’ll take you to the Dutch market, and then to a tea/spices shop, saying that it’s much cheaper than in the old city. It’s actually 2x more expensive. We didn’t buy, so he came up with a story that he needs milk for his kids. He took us to a grocery shop, where we bought powder milk (rs3900) for more than what a regular supermarket charges. He probably sells it back to the market after we leave.

If you're on the hunt for a delicious bite during your travels, look no further than The Original Rocket Burger. Nestled in a vibrant locale, this eatery offers an inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements its mouthwatering menu. I indulged in their beef burger, affectionately named the Gringo, which was both satisfying and flavorful. To accompany my meal, I opted for some crispy fries and refreshing homemade iced tea—definitely a highlight!
I think they serve the best burgers in the town. Ordered the Korean style beef burger (can’t really remember the name) the cowboy burger. Highly recommend this place. Staff is super attentive and friendly.
Vimukthi N — Google review
It was a weekend getaway, so we had already plans for the lunch in this place. Never been here before and never heard of, Since Our team "foodie expert" suggests this place with good confident we already had high hopes even before foot on Galle soil. we came here with a few of my friends looking for a change from the (lovely but needed a break) Juicy Burger! We weren't disappointed. I had the Shipwreck(Rs.980 - Sep 2018) and the other opted for Light House (Rs.1700 - Sep 2018), Texas Cowboy(Rs.750 - Sep 2018) & Bulgogi(Rs.950 - Sep 2018) burger all with chips in the side and a drink as we like, I choose lemon ice tea! We visited other burger joints in the vicinity as well. This burgers compares favourably with the competition but were not the best. Lovely upstairs setting. Friendly service and good burgers. Although not served standard with fries which makes this place more expensive than the competition. We shared each of others burgers and tested all. all the burgers taste ware really good super delicious, delicioso (; I falling love with the shipwreck burger since the layer of fish so thick and juicy. It has a little kit to it which is I really like. if you're really into fish things try this burger for sure. and Lighthouse, damn! That's border soo good. one of the best ever had in my life. meatware soo juicy, have a spice to it which is as we ordered. Grandma... ahh.. not the best thing on the menu. Bulgogi is okay. with Kimchi, its have a little sourness to it. The biggest plus point is, fries wasn't oily like most other fries you get around Colombo. But seriously, get the shipwreck burger, if the meat is not your thang five of us ordered 3 cokes and 2 Iced lemon tea, including me. It didn't take much time to understand the that was a terrible Idea. Ice tea was too bad. too bad. and even it serves in a plastic bottle. As for service, we can't really complain. The staff was super nice. They were very helpful in terms of helping us with our choices and our food was brought in around 20 - 25 minutes. Overall, we really liked our experience at The Original Rocket Burger. From food and ambience to quick service and hefty portion sizes, everything was excellent. Highly recommend!

I got a grandma's burger and a Texas burger combo. The burgers were pretty good. For the combo I got flamingo iced tea and potato fries. The ice tea didn't taste good. It is better to get a coke than the ice tea. The fries were too oily and soggy. The food presentation was not so good either. But the dining areas was cool and quiet. And the wifi is the best.
Dinushika P — Google review
I ordered a beef burger (Gringo) for 980 rs and added fries and home-made ice tea for 400 rs. Burger is good and ice tea taste great. Fries not so much. My only gripe is the tomato sauce taste funny (not your usual tomato sauce flavour). Other than that everything is great: the staff and ambience
ANSEL C — Google review
Rocket Burger is located at the first floor off peddler street (Near to Thomas Cook exchange). The ambience is nice and sober with extremely friendly staff. It has free WiFi here. As for seating arrangements, there are benches arranged inside as well as in the balcony. The prices of the burgers are reasonable and perhaps the best bet is to take combo (coke + fries) at extra 300LKR. The overall experience was very cozy. We had ordered Tiki Tiki, Gringo and Chicken Burger. The burgers were served pretty quickly and they tasted delicious. It is definitely recommended to visit this place. They do have take-out option. Additionally, this place is opened till 10pm.

Summary : a cool place to try some great burgers, slightly expensive but still worth it. Food : Gringo burger, pulled chicken burger and tiki burger along with fries and coke. ( Meal combo), berry ice cream The gringo chicken burger came with a generous helping of chicken and was juicy with the onion and Mayo. The tiki tiki burger is a veg Patty with the accompaniments. Both are recommended. The fries are a bit thick though. Ambiance : casual and Chic. Free WiFi is offered. Bright yellow walls with wooden seating. One table outside overseeing the street. Value for money : decent. Worth another visit since the meal was filling. Its a bit on the expensive side though.

The Fort Printers is a charming boutique hotel located in the heart of old Galle, featuring a blend of colonial architecture and contemporary design. The 18th-century building, along with two heritage villas added in 2013, houses 13 suites that showcase Dutch colonial architecture with wooden floors and high beamed ceilings complemented by colorful fabrics and artworks. Guests can enjoy delightful meals served al fresco by the poolside or in the impressive dining room.
A charming and beautifully renovated boutique hotel. The room was tastefully decorated. Centrally located in old Galle, it’s perfect for exploring the city on foot, with plenty of nearby restaurants. Highly recommended for a stopover in Galle.

Great boutique hotel with a unique history in the heart of the old Galle Fort. We got to stay in the Headmasters room which was charmingly quirky. A great place to base ourselves as we spent two days exploring the entire UNESCO World Heritage site. Two things to improve though, the WiFi was a little unreliable and there were not many vegan options for breakfast. However the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.

Stunning hotel. The entire stay was just beautiful. My most memorable luxury touch was when I didn’t have my own toothpaste (apparently they weren’t in the habit of placing dental kits) and I asked them in the afternoon (there was none in the property), I went out shopping and just at the right moment as I was about to enter my room, they had one tube bought & hand-delivered. Service was amazing and discreet. 11/10. The property is just sleek and minimal (in a good and tasteful way). Had one cocktail by the pool (it was cucumber something?) it was good but not refined (I had to spit out the little bits in the drink). The breakfast hoppers was stunning & delicious. My old guilty regret is that I let my friends from SL pick my luggage up to the car while I was preoccupied. Missed opportunity to thank FOH with a tip.

Gorgeous space and lovely little pool. It’s obviously in an old printers so… the walls are paper thin, the drains don’t drain, and charged me 110USD to get a little laundry done! Not a nice touch at all.
Nic V — Google review
Yes, it's a dated colonial style building but that's all part of the character. The creaking floorboards, the high ceilings etc. Food was amazing and had a really comfortable stay.

Unfortunately this isn't going to be a pleasant review... This is only about the restaurant of this hotel in case anyone is interested in going. We went to this restaurant/hote for a breakfast. For the blandest and most Spartan poached eggs in the photo (and a mediocre omelette) and two juices, we paid over 35 euros (13.500 or similar Sri Lankan rupees) In comparison, right after that we went to a super nice beach club, stayed all day, ate and drank good food and drinks while enjoying the beach, and paid the same amount. This was by far the most expensive and least satisfying food I had in my entire trip in Sri Lanka. I feel unlucky to have made this mistake.

Dalawella Beach is a picturesque spot in Sri Lanka that has gained popularity on Instagram thanks to its iconic palm tree swings. This beach is a must-visit for travelers looking to capture stunning photos and keep up with the latest travel trends. Located near other attractions like Rumassala, Yatagala Rajamaha Viharaya, Unawatuna beach, and the Jungle beach, Dalawella Beach offers visitors the chance to witness sea turtles laying eggs along the shoreline.
One of the most beautiful beaches in the Ahangama area, and probably the second best beach in Sri Lanka that I have been to. The fact that you can meet and see beautiful turtles at random times around the beach is an amazing bonus
Teo I — Google review
Dalawella Beach is a great place for swimming and watching turtles. We've seen 6+ turtles most of the time when we are visiting. The sea is very calm in this place, and you can swim with the kids. If you have snorkels, you can watch beautiful fish around the rocks as well.
Irushan W — Google review
Dalawella Beach is one of the most beautiful and serene beaches in Sri Lanka! The calm, turquoise waters and soft golden sand make it an ideal spot to relax and unwind. What makes it extra special is the natural lagoon created by the reef as it keeps the water shallow and safe, perfect for swimming. It’s also famous for its picturesque views, especially during sunset, and of course, the iconic palm tree swing that’s become a must-try experience for visitors. The beach isn’t overly crowded, which makes it feel peaceful and private compared to some of the busier beaches nearby. There are a few lovely cafes and spots nearby where you can enjoy a meal or a drink while watching the waves. Whether you’re here to swim, take photos, or just soak in the beauty of the coast, Dalawella Beach is a true slice of paradise on the southern coast of Sri Lanka!
Kavinda D — Google review
The beach is nothing special. Spotting turtle on a stormy day is literally impossible. There are some sellers and scammers nearby so be aware. Finding a parking spot to enter This beach is quite problematic. There is nowhere you can rent a chair or something so bring your own stuff with you.

Dalawella Beach is great for kids. The water is calm and we even saw turtles. A fun and safe place for the whole family!
Lakshitha W — Google review
Dalawella Beach is a lovely, quiet spot on Sri Lanka’s south coast. The sand is clean, the water is clear, and the beach has a relaxed, less crowded vibe. It’s a nice place for a peaceful swim, especially with the natural rocks that keeps the waves gentle. The well-known palm tree swing adds a bit of charm and makes for a fun photo. Sunsets here are beautiful, with soft colors and a calm atmosphere. While it’s not the most dramatic beach around, it’s definitely a pleasant place to spend a few hours enjoying the sea and watching the sunset.
Isuru J — Google review
We stopped here to look for turtles but no turtles. At early pm all the beachside places looked closed/deserted/unloved. The beach was quite steep due to the seasonal rough seas in July
William C — Google review
“Best Beach in the Area” Dalawella Beach is one of the best beaches I’ve visited so far. The water is crystal clear, and the beach is very clean. While the beach itself isn’t very large, its beauty and relaxed atmosphere more than make up for it. There are some great beachfront restaurants nearby where you can enjoy delicious food while taking in the stunning views. The highlight, though, is the incredible chance to swim with sea turtles a truly unforgettable experience. Overall, it’s a perfect spot for relaxing, swimming, and enjoying nature at its best. Highly recommended

The friendly and supportive staff create a welcoming atmosphere, while the small yet manageable seating area provides a comfortable setting to indulge in these mouthwatering delights. While the taste is undeniably delicious, it falls short when compared to traditional Italian ice cream.

This premium ice cream shop is a true gem for dessert enthusiasts! The variety of ice creams they offer is simply outstanding, and each scoop is a delightful journey for the taste buds. While the price per scoop may seem a bit high at Rs.950, the quality and richness of the ice cream justify the cost. It's an indulgence worth savoring, and the flavors are so exquisite that you'll find yourself transported to a realm of pure bliss with every bite. The option to enjoy your ice cream in the comfortable seating area upstairs adds to the overall experience. It's a peaceful haven where you can relish your treat without any rush, making it perfect for a sweet escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

This cozy eatery is known for its laid-back atmosphere and budget-friendly menu, making it a favorite among backpackers and travelers alike. Very tasty rice and vegetable curry! Decoration is cozy and little balcony is a nice place to watch what's happening on the street, while you're waiting your food. Good coffee.

Anura’s Restaurant has a really nice indoor space ✨ A great place to relax and enjoy your meal 🍽️. The interiors are tastefully done, clean, and perfect for both casual and special outings. The food was top-notch — fresh, flavorful, and presented with care. Every dish we ordered stood out, and the portions were just right. The staff were warm, polite, and very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that I’d gladly return to and highly recommend!

Anura’s Café is such a wonderful find in the heart of Galle Fort! The atmosphere is cozy and full of character – from the colorful decor to the friendly, welcoming vibe. It’s the perfect place to relax and take in the charm of the old town. The food was absolutely delicious and full of fresh flavors. I also tried one of their smoothies and a coffee – both were fantastic. You can tell everything is made with care. The menu offers a great variety and the prices are very fair, especially considering the quality. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. I felt right at home from the moment I walked in. If you’re exploring Galle Fort, make sure to stop by Anura’s. Great food, lovely people, and a beautiful setting. Well recommended
Tanushi D — Google review
Called in to Anura's for a late lunch as I liked the bright and quirky decor. Ordered a vegetarian wrap with chips and despite being the only one in the restaurant it took over 30 minutes to be served! Wrap was soggy and drowned in french salad dressing. Appreciated the effort with the decorative sauce pattern on the plate, maybe thats what took the 30 minutes?!! Was happy to have two pedestal fans blasting directly on me the whole time as it was so hot and humid. Food was price was reasonable given how expensive everything is around Galle Fort.
Timeshare C — Google review
Awful service and overpriced food & drink. The staff here seem to not have any idea how to run a restaurant, the entire time we were here they were all in the back constantly debating something whilst one of the guys is trying to make drinks thus slowing down all the service. The guy who took our order was in La La Land barely giving us his full attention. Every part of our order came out one by one in a random order, my coffee came and it was totally wrong, my girlfriend’s smoothie bowl arrived just as I was finishing my meal. The whole place is just a shambles. The guy making drinks has no urgency at all. I had sent my coffee back to be remade and we could see him back there just taking his time, chatting away to the other staff members, no care in the world. I ended up cancelling the coffee as by that point I just wanted to leave. He then came over to me offering to still make it for me but comp it in the bill. I declined. For where this restaurant is located and the prices they have on their menus, you’d expect this place to be a little more upmarket and professional, it’s the complete opposite. The staff and management here seriously need to buck their ideas up if they want repeat customers, or new customers for that matter. I wish we would have read the reviews for this place before we entered. The only reason I’m giving it a two star was because my food was average (not great), and the restaurant itself is a nice place to sit (when the staff aren’t bickering between themselves).

Great indoor and beautiful decorations, it was also a cute black dog I played with. The food was tasty. The stuff is nice and friendly.

Add this to your Sri Lankan itinerary if you’re planning to visit Galle! Amazing food and ambience, easily one of the best cafés in town. Located right at the beginning of the street opposite Galle Fort, this hidden gem stands out with its colorful décor, cozy corners, and boho-chic vibe. This is the perfect spot to relax and recharge after exploring and shopping nearby!

The Stick No Bills®️ Asia Flagship Gallery, located at 35 Church Street in the heart of Galle Fort, offers a carefully curated collection of vintage-style prints and posters that showcase the nostalgic charm of old Ceylon. Founded by a British couple in 2010, this gallery has become synonymous with promoting retro-style images of Sri Lanka to the world.
Been buying posters from here for years! Love decorating the home with these, and they make great gifts too. Wish they sold frames with the posters too as an option.

We went to this place to buy a few posters for our villa. We wanted a map poster, which collection is located on the second floor. But the music there was so loud, we couldn’t even talk to each other. It was super uncomfortable. When we asked to turn the music down for a while, the attendant refused to do it having said her boss would come soon and she likes the music loud. We were the only customers in the store at that moment. Very disappointing service. We left without buying anything and went to a different poster store.
Алина З — Google review
Great place to buy some unique prints and postcards! Bought a selection of postcards to remember as souvenirs and really reasonably priced. The shop also had an advertisement for Pineapple Press which gave us some great recommendations for the rest of our stay in Sri Lanka.
Nichole F — Google review
I had the pleasure of visiting this poster art gallery in Galle, Sri Lanka, and it left me thoroughly impressed. The gallery's aesthetic appeal is truly captivating, boasting an array of artwork that is nothing short of fantastic. The visual experience is so enchanting that I found myself lost in the intricate details of each piece. The ambience of the gallery is exceptionally calming, creating the perfect atmosphere to appreciate the art on display. I could easily spend hours immersed in the serene surroundings, allowing the creativity of the artists to wash over me. While the experience was undoubtedly delightful, it's important to note that the art pieces, though remarkable, are priced on the higher side. If you're looking for more budget-friendly options, this might not be your ideal spot. Nevertheless, the overall experience, from the art's allure to the tranquil ambiance, makes this gallery a noteworthy destination for art enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful retreat.

The Beach of Bonavista in Galle is a popular spot for surfing, with adaptable waves that offer a thrilling experience. It's also great for leisurely walks and exploring the sandy shores. Families can enjoy building sand castles and digging holes in the spacious area. Nearby accommodations provide convenient access to this beautiful beach, which is known for its stunning sunset views. Additionally, it's a family-friendly destination during the monsoon season, offering opportunities for both surfing and swimming.
It's a beautiful beach at Galle.

Perfect place for surfing 🏄‍♂️ Surfing board is around Rs.500 per hour (depending on the demand) and you can hire a personal coach also at a reasonable price. Crowd is really friendly and nice to be around. There are lots of foreigners in the beach and 80%+ of the surfers are foreigners. If you’re new, don’t worry. You can have a personal trainer for one hour and they’ll guide you. Personal trainer will guide you from the basics to pro mode. You don’t need to worry if you don’t know how to swim as the shallow is there for about 100m+. The view is stunning and the foods are delicious.. There are several places to buy foods and cost will depend on the restaurant. There’s a photographer called Gayan Anushka and you can ask him to capture while you’re riding waves.🌊 Enjoy your ride!❤️

Beach Bonavista, Galle - A Hidden Gem I recently visited Beach Bonavista in Galle, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the serene town of Galle, this beach is a picturesque destination known for its pristine sands and tranquil atmosphere. The unique blend of golden and silvery sand creates a stunning backdrop, perfect for leisurely strolls and nature photography. One of the highlights of Beach Bonavista is its unspoiled charm. Unlike more commercialized beaches, it offers a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle. The sunrise and sunset views are breathtaking, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and reflection. While the beach lacks amenities like lifeguards and restrooms, its untouched beauty more than makes up for it. Parking can be a bit tricky as there is no designated lot, but finding a spot along the nearby residential streets is manageable. For those interested in local culture, Beach Bonavista is a great place to witness traditional fishing techniques. The nearby historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also worth a visit.

Stunning art gallery. Some very unique contemporary pieces and ancient Srilankan inspired art. Despite some of the negative reviews, they are a bit hesitant with photography, but if you ask kindly they will accommodate. The lady there was kind.

Vibes are there. Echoing others’ comments, the staff was very rude, but they didn’t even know about the artist I asked info on and had to call someone. There are bits and pieces of wonderful curation attempts upstairs, but also sad to see some works piled around the floor. They have a stupid no photography policy, but they are not obsessive about it.

(Translated by Google) Expensive, long service, the food is generally terrible: tom yam without rice, tomatoes, mushrooms, small shrimp. And it costs around 1000₽ per serving. Plus it's super spicy, impossible to eat. I definitely do not recommend this cafe (Original) Дорого, долгое обслуживание, еда вообще ужас: том ям без риса, помидоров, грибов, креветки маленькие. А стоит в районе 1000₽ за порцию. Плюс супер острый, есть невозможно. Однозначно не рекомендую данное кафе

Lighthouse St is a captivating destination nestled at the edge of Galle, where history and luxury intertwine. This charming street is home to the oldest lighthouse in the nation, a stunning 87-foot structure that has become an iconic symbol of Galle Fort since its original construction in 1848. The lighthouse offers breathtaking views and serves as a picturesque backdrop for unforgettable sunsets. Along Lighthouse Street, visitors can explore beautifully renovated accommodations that reflect colonial elegance.
Five stars is not enough for this wonderful villa. We stayed here seven glorious days relaxing, reading books and walking out to the local shops. The breakfast is simple but sufficient and the whole stay is made even better by Prasad who is the manager of the villa he is wonderful. The main hotel is in the next street and has an excellent restaurant and we had access to the new pool. The staff are second to none and again can't rate this villa and hotel highly enough. One other person that must be praised is Lihini who has been so helpful and efficient on reception. A minor improvement would be the addition of two comfy chairs but a minor point.
