Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Nestled in the foothills of the Doi Suthep Mountains, Chiang Mai Zoo is a sprawling 200-acre wildlife haven that's home to over 400 animal species. This family-friendly destination offers a diverse range of attractions, including a snow dome, panda exhibit, kids' water park, and animal feedings.
It covers a large area and since it's on the mountains, some places are little steep.Recommend taking a tram ride and visit all the stops.
Rupayan C — Google review
Chiang Mai Zoo (including Tram & Aquarium) – Monsoon Season Notes Total cost for one adult: approx. 900 baht (zoo entry + aquarium + tram). They do the tourist tax and it's pretty significant. WALKING HAZARD (this is serious) Don't walk it if it's been raining. I'm someone who averages 12–20 km a day and I still slipped while cautiously walking and gripping onto the rails. The main problems: - Smooth sloped concrete paths with no grip - Algae buildup makes it worse than it looks - Water channels and grooves funnel rotting leaves and garbage right to the centre of the paths where you walk - Piles of rotting leaves just left there to compost - Several areas alternate between ramps and stairs without logic, some slopes are a dangerous angle even if you are wearing hiking shoes like myself. If you're even slightly unsteady on your feet, just take the tram. TRAM Recommended even if you're fit. It does a full loop and stops at all the major exhibits. You can hop off, take a look, and hop back on the next one. Saves time and knees. Trams constantly loop too, so you can just rest and wait for the next. They do thin out around closing time. AQUARIUM Worth the detour. You have to buy a zoo ticket first, but the aquarium is modern, well-kept, and nicely air-conditioned. Kids would enjoy it, and it's a good escape from the heat or humidity. GROUNDS The gardens and general landscaping are gorgeous, a massive credit to their groundskeepers.. It’s just let down by unsafe walking surfaces. ANIMALS Decent variety. But during rain, expect them to be hiding. Not really the zoo’s fault, just something to be aware of. SUMMARY Dry day: do the full walk if you're fit. Still watch your footing. Wet day: take the tram. Seriously. Do not try to do it all on foot unless you like skating involuntarily. It’s a solid zoo with some great highlights, but the path safety is a real problem.
Jacob J — Google review
Zoo has a nice layout, but needs a little more upkeep on paths and painting. The 350 entry fee is misleading; you'll end up spending closer to 900/adult if you do everything. A couple recent reviews said they only saw 4 animals. Clearly they don't know how to open their eyes. I skipped a couple areas and still saw 76 species. It is worth checking out if you are here for 2-3 weeks and have ran out of things to do.
Keith L — Google review
Read some other reviews before you go, they were very helpful. Here are some: 1) Tram is a must! or else you'll suffer and wish you took it from the beginning cause there are alot of walking and climbing. Tram has 13 points that he stops at, you can hop off at a point, walk a little around and then hop on again into the next one. Price for tram is 70 THB. There is golf cart (for 4 or 6 persons) as an other option. 2) there are alot of activities and each one need to pay for it, entry fee to the zoo at the beginning is a must and cost 350 THB for adult, then there is the tram or golf cart fee. there are snow area and Dino area which we passed and I think it doesn't worth it except if you have kids and they love that things, and there is the aquarium which we passed too and it costs 450 THB, and finally there is the penguin feedings which was expensive and we passed it too but luckily visiting the penguins room was free and we had a lot of fun time there and highly recommend it. 3) alot of animals are missing! Some other animals are in single numbers only! To name some: Panda, Orangutan, Rhino, crocodiles, Gibbons.
Samer R — Google review
View and environment are great but the area is too large so should rent a buggy car. However, a buggy car can't stop during the ride except specific parking area so you still gotta walk a little bit to see those animals. And sometimes, the area smell is not great. But overall, if you have time, my recommendation is to rent buggy for 2 or 3 hours, which cost 350 per hours when I go, so you can stop and relax and will be able to see all
Shine S — Google review
Very vast and huge area, rather low animal population. NO panda, no aquarium. I recommend using a cart to get around, as it goes up and down A LOT. It is s nice afternoon activity for 350 THB per adult. But don't expect too much.
Xanadu K — Google review
The entrance fee is quite expensive, and inside you have to pay extra for additional exhibition, such as the aquarium. Many areas are closed, including the panda exhibit (the panda is no longer here). Most animals are kept in small enclosures, and they don’t look very happy. There is a train that drives around the zoo, but it was full, and we couldn’t get on at the intermediate stops. Overall, the visit felt poorly organized and depressing. I would not recommend coming here — spend your time elsewhere in Chiang Mai instead.
Peter K — Google review
The area was huge and nice to explore, but it was a bit disappointing for me because some parts were empty — especially the Australian animal section. I was hoping to see a koala. They should have mentioned it or added a description beforehand.

Nestled in the lush landscapes of Thailand, Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden has been captivating visitors since 1992. The garden boasts a diverse collection of rare Thai plants, greenhouses, and beautifully landscaped grounds. One of its main attractions is the Glasshouse Complex, which showcases an array of aquatic plants, lotuses, water lilies, orchids, tropical rainforest plants, cacti and carnivorous plants.
Absolutely stunning place! Striking Botanical Garden truly lives up to its name — every path and corner is filled with natural beauty. There's an impressive variety of plants from around the world, everything is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. Perfect for a walk, taking photos, or just clearing your mind. I really enjoyed my visit — highly recommended! Entrance fee 150thb

Lovely botanical gardens, well priced for the experience. The canopy walk gives an amazing view of the jungle and the separate conservatories offer an excellent perspective on a wide range of plants such as waterlilies and succulents. We didn’t get to the Science Museum sadly, but this is also included in the entrance fee. There are eateries there and I believe a shuttle bus to get to the different locations as the gardens are huge. I would recommend this for a day out!
Lorna T — Google review
Beautiful botanical garden 🪴 with a variety of plants. 🌱 some rare ones too. 👍 The canopy walk is fun with a great view of the mountains 🏔️.. and then you could visit the Green houses each with its own biome and temp control to mimic nature - cacti arid zone, rainforest, lotus and water lilies, and many more (I can’t reliever the names 😆) So pretty and well maintained 👍. To finish it off, I bought a few plants. Quite affordable prices. One thing to note is that they charge 150 baht for foreigners 😔 But overall, it’s a great place to visit and enjoy a few hours immersed in nature. 😊
Pratyush P — Google review
A day well spent there to learn about plants and trees. It's suitable for families and kids. Entrance fees is THB 150 per pax for foreigners. Though it was sunny on that day, the air was cool when you were in shade. It's so enjoyable to visit different plant houses especially the big cactus. Restaurant at the plant house offers a simple food.

The first time I visited this gorgeous place was in 1997. It was already beautiful back then. But now, it’s more interesting because of the added attractions that would appeal to all tourists. There are beautiful souvenir items that you can purchase.

Better with good weather. Consider at least half a day, if you want to visit correctly. Beautiful place but more maintenance required. Enjoy!
Marzia F — Google review
This was my second visit to QSBG. It was still a paradise for plant enthusiasts. However, there were some management issues. First, the biggest greenhouse was under renovation so it was closed, but the staff didn't inform me about this when I bought the ticket at the entrance. This was not mentioned on the QSBG website neither. Second, the staff at the two souvenir shops gave me very different attitudes. Near the Canopy Walk, the staff was very helpful in explaining the shirt sizes and looking for the sizes I needed. Up the hill, the staff gave me a direct "No" when I asked if a certain size was available. She even didn't pretend to check the piled and packed shirts for 10 seconds and then turned to chit chat with other staff. I hope that the QSBG authority can attend to these issues.

Great place 40 mins outside of central Chiang Mai in the mountains. Tree top walkway through forested hills with lovely views. There are many interesting plants in a series of green houses. Food and drinks are available. Allow 2 hours plus and best with a car or tour bus.

Located approximately 60 km from Chiang Mai city, Elephant Nature Park is a renowned sanctuary and rescue center for distressed elephants in Thailand. Founded by elephant conservationist Lek Chailert, the park aims to rehabilitate and provide a safe haven for these majestic animals. Visitors have the opportunity to engage in intimate experiences such as feeding and bathing the elephants, as well as participating in volunteer programs.
11/10 I seriously could not recommend more! This is a true ethical elephant sanctuary. I didn’t ride, feed or bathe the elephants. You can tell they are so sweet & caring for all the animals there. It was so sad hearing what some of the elephants had endured in their past but it was nice to know they’re being taken care of now. I booked on Klook for a half day. They have lots of dogs & cats as well.

The most ethical elephant sanctuary. Absolutely loved the day out. Well organised, smooth transportation, excellent tour guide Gun! We got delicious lunch and got back on time. Highly recommend if you’re looking for an ethical experience. No elephant touching we walked amongst them whole tour. Thank you!
Sona K — Google review
We had a fantastic day on the morning tour, visiting many of the 116 elephants that have been rescued here. The experience is hands-off, which we really appreciated—but you're welcome to take photos if you'd like, as the elephants are calm and often come close. Before posting this, I took a look at some of the lower reviews and honestly felt confused. Our guide, Tea, was enthusiastic, informative, and clearly passionate about the well-being of the animals. You could really feel the care behind everything they do. Lunch was delicious, and beyond the elephants, the sanctuary has also rescued thousands of dogs and cats—along with other animals we didn’t get to see on the day. Before booking, it’s worth doing a little research to make sure the tour matches what you're looking for. But for anyone criticizing their approach, it’s worth remembering: they’re doing far more to help these animals than most of us ever will. 10/10—would absolutely support them again. We had a truly lovely and meaningful day.

A really great project worth supporting & once in a lifetime experience! I did the sunshine tour and had a fantastic day, also visiting the ENP. In my opinion people who leave a bad review are simply not well informed of the context. These tours are more expensive but in my view worth every single cent, read more context below. The ENP does an amazing job rescuing elephants from circuses, logging industry, street begging etc. and give these majestic creatures a new start, medical care and healing environment. Obviously there elephants are not wild, nor can become wild. I am convinced the ENP is doing the best possible given circumstances. By supporting the ENP, you also support local farms to transition to a non-elephant-riding eco-tourism. In the particular case of the sunshine tour the elephants, I understood they get to meet tourism once per week only and during the rest of the week they forage the jungle freely with their caretakers. In order to offer tours everyday of the week the guides simply rotate between different elephant centers. Note: the organisation also supports local communities, and rescue all kinds of other animals in needs (+2000 cats, dogs, horses, cows, wildboars etc.). Check out their work online / do your own research. High recommendation from my side + thanks again to our great guide, King!
Amanda N — Google review
I really wish I had read the negative reviews here and on reddit before booking the afternoon tour. A disappointing and sad experience. We anticipated we'd be observing the elephants in their "natural habitat" from afar, as advertised. This environment was much more zoo-like. The elephant "families" are kept at feeding stations. Groups are guided from station to station, encouraged to get close to the elephants, and take photos. Sure, this is likely better than their previous circus or logging lives, but is it really a happy, carefree existence? From the get go, there is a lot of pre-explaining from the guide. Namely, we're told immediately that the elephants may "roam freely" around the park, BUT... the families fight if they get too close so they are "kept separated." Hmm... I'm no elephant expert, but a quick Google / AI search suggests elephants in the wild don't really fight with each other, except males who will fight over mates in heat. I didn't see any males in the "sanctuary." My hunch is they are being kept at the stations for photo ops. While at one station with a family, the baby started to walk over a sand hill toward a river behind it. It's mom and nanny then followed. We were promptly led to the next station. When we looked back, the baby and family were quickly being shooed back to their station by the mahout. When I asked the guide about why the family was not able to "roam freely" and were scolded back to their station, he said they normally are, but there are other elephants there from a different organization and they don't want the animals to fight. He was VERY defensive in answering our questions. We weren't buying it. We saw this pattern time and again: as soon as an elephant got too far from her station, she was quickly scolded and led back. It almost seems as if the elephants know the only safe time to attempt to wander/escape their station is when the tourists are right there. While it's better than offering rides, it still appears to be a boring, sad life, especially for the babies. Lastly, the elephants are kept in small confined stables from 5pm when the day staff leaves and other reviews suggest they are forced to bathe for the tourists. I would have gladly sacrificed selfies and up close interaction for less helicoptering from the mahouts. I don't recommend.
Kristin L — Google review
We did the « sunshine for elephants » full day trip. It was excellent. The guide was informative and kind. He balanced giving us info and taking pictures as well as leaving us time to soak it in. The whole family enjoyed feeding the elephants and walking through the forest. It felt very respectful of the elephants. They clearly outlined rules on how to interact and we simply followed them through the jungle on their walk without interfering. We had a delicious lunch and in the afternoon visited the park where elephants have lots of space and excellent care.
Julie W — Google review
What an amazing experience! We did the highlands hike and it was one of the best experiences ive ever had! The elephants care is clearly seen by the way the staff interact and respond to the animals. Keep in mind, the elephants are rescued from places like loggers and entertainment places, they are not wild nor can they be returned to the wild. With that in mind, this is one of the most ethical places in Thailand for time with elephants. The elephants move at their own pace and the matriarch sets it. Our guide Por was extemely knowlegable and told usall about the history of the park as well as the elephants there. They train the elephants (yes this is a park not the wild) with positive enforcement (mainly treats and rub downs), not with violence. The food at lunch was incredible and though it rained most of the time, it added to the experience! If you want to enjoy seeing elephants up close, this is the best place to do it!
Brandi W — Google review
I volunteered at elephant nature park & had a really amazing week. The vegan food provided was absolutely amazing, with a large range of choices & always enough for everyone. The way the elephants & other animals are cared for is very ethical & the park is very transparent about their practises/ treatment of animals. You can tell that the money paid to the park is used to care for the animals, workers and park facilities. The staff are really friendly and helpful with additional activities for volunteers to learn more about Asian elephants and Thailand culture. The facilities are really nice in the park and the rooms are super comfortable. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience at the park and I hope to be back to volunteer again the future. It was really nice to meet Lek, learn about her journey and the work she does with elephants worldwide. I will continue to follow her and support her animal advocacy worldwide.

Visitors can interact with the artwork, feeling as though they are part of the scenes depicted. Founded by Mr. Jang Kyu Suk from South Korea, this gallery features works by 10 professional Korean painters. The realistic and interactive nature of the paintings allows visitors to immerse themselves in various scenarios such as flying on a magic carpet or exploring the ocean depths.
Great, relatively small gallery presenting stunning art. The gallery owner is a very nice and friendly person. Highly recommend to visit!

A cool art gallery and shop. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Within the shop there’s also an exhibition of a local artists work (the artist himself was there as well) which regularly changes. There’s a great range of artistic styles on display, so whatever you’re into I’m sure you’ll find something here that you like!

The Meeting Room Art Gallery, locates on Prasingh area (right opposite the Phra Singh Post Office) and next to Postcard Hotel Chiangmai, owns by K. Joe, offers a genuine support for young artists to showcase their artworks in Chiangmai for the past ten years. K. Joe kept his mission and vision strong, by giving the opportunity for young and emerging artists from Chiangmai. The new space (before, the gallery was in Si Phum area) is clean and warmhearted ambient. K. Joe is always lovely, knowledgeable on contemporary art and always keep going extra miles to gives opportunity and platforms for youngster's talent and creativity. There's exhibitions rotating around every month or two, please check out the gallery's facebook page to keep yourself updated. Highly recommended.

House interesting collections from local artists! Only problem was that they would only share artist information after you purchase the art piece(s)

Formerly the Cannonball Gallery in the very old wooden house on River Road, the new, renamed Meeting Room Art Gallery is simply stunning. Jo and his team of artists have kept the same open, creative and supportive environment for emerging artists and students, but in a bright, new modern space. Regular special exhibitions and openings offer a good variety of new work as well as more established sculptures and paintings. Now located in the Old City, it’s just a short stroll from Wat Prah Singh and is definitely worth a visit. Tip: Grab a coffee from next door and relax at the front table before or after your visit. A great couple of hours in Chiang Mai.
Peter C — Google review
Delightful gallery space with knowledgeable curator and owner, Mr. Jo, who supports and encourages young Chiang Mai artists as well as established, world renown masters. Over the years, Mr. Jo has worked with many artists to hone their creative instincts in developing an outstanding business for collectors everywhere. Mr. Jo specializes in contemporary art, but always leaves room for traditional painters which will suit a variety of buyers and pocketbooks. As Mr. Jo says, "Be a friend; bring a friend!" -- a must see while visiting Chiang Mai!

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a revered temple in Northern Thailand, is known for its gold stupa, pagodas, and museum. Perched on a mountainside, the temple offers stunning panoramic views of the city. To explore off-the-beaten-path routes in the region, consider hiring a local trekking guide through a reputable company. This allows access to non-touristic areas and an authentic experience.
This place was so amazing. Quite the journey up and down the mountain - we took a grab but people were walking it as well. There are tons of Buddhas, temples and statues to look upon + there are souvenir shops as well. There is an incredible view at the top as well. There is a cable car that you can take up to the temple for 50 baht (30 for cable car and 20 for temple)

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is an absolute must-see in Chiang Mai! The journey up the mountain leads you to one of northern Thailand's most sacred and beautiful temples. Climbing the iconic Naga-flanked staircase is a memorable start, and your reward is the stunning, glittering golden chedi at the heart of the complex—it's truly magnificent. Beyond the architecture, the panoramic views of Chiang Mai city from the temple grounds are breathtaking, especially on a clear day. The entire site radiates a wonderful sense of peace and deep history. Don't miss this spiritual and visually rewarding experience!
Faris L — Google review
Beautiful temple complex. You’ll need to climb up some steps but it isn’t too arduous of a journey up. Be prepared with an umbrella and good shoes that add the ground can be slippery if it’s been raining. The weather is cool up top so have a light rain jacket. You will have to take off your shoes to go inside the inner temple area but there is a place to store your shoes, I would just recommend bringing a small towel to wipe off your feet once you’re done. The view from the top is amazing as you can see the city. When we got there, the clouds were low and visibility was poor but it cleared up within 20-30 minutes while we explored the complex. So many aspects of this place are highly detailed with rich history. Would definitely recommend checking out! Note: if you have a tendency for carsicknesses, would recommend having something to take just in case on the way up and down as the roads are very winding but the drive isn’t too long.
Ashli B — Google review
In all honesty if it weren’t for the location on the hill, the stairs, cable car and view over the city this would be just another temple. Don’t get me wrong it is very beautiful, but no more so than a lot of others out there. If you do come here make sure you visit the old temple complex of Wat Phra lat on the way up or down the hill, that was definitely the highlight of our trip to this temple, now that one is truly beautiful and unique.

30baht entry. Females must cover shoulders and knees. Sarongs available for a donation. Seems to be very popular with locals. The stairs are manageable. Take sunnies, the centrepiece of the temple is blinding in the sun. The view from the viewpoint is incredible.

You can take Red Songthaew from Old City with THB 360 (Grab price) which will be cheap for a group. This is a must must must-visit place in Chiang Mai because it has an amazing view over the city from the mountain. In the morning you can enjoy the silent/fresh atmosphere with clouds handing below your eyes (there are multiple spots for enjoying the cloud). There is even a coffee shop inside the temple area from which you can enjoy hot coffee in morning forest fog (sometimes raining). There are also a big golden Chedi in the middle. Too many things to see and feel. Cannot miss this place. Please visit this temple in the early morning (beautifully at 6:00am).

Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan is a revered 14th-century Buddhist temple located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is home to gold and copper Buddhas, ancient manuscripts, and intricate murals. The temple's main attraction is the Phra Phutta Sihing Buddha statue, which holds great cultural significance and is paraded through the city during the Songkran Festival.
Beautiful complex of temples situated at walking distance from the Chang Mai centre. It has some temples dedicated to monks as well as the classics Buddhist temple. I appreciate in particular the golden "stupas" situated at the back of the main temple. Worth a visit if you are around!
Stefano N — Google review
Highly recommend visiting this temple. Inside, there are a few shrines where you can take off your shoes and step inside to look around or worship the gods, which feels very spiritual. This is one of the best temples I’ve visited during my time in Chiang Mai.
Hoang N — Google review
A must visit place. I went here with my partner and it’s a really beautiful old temple. Specially during the sunset it shines beautifully! Every detail of the temple is just mesmerising. Evening prayers calms one down with monks chanting soothingly. As a foreigner you got to buy ticket but it’s worth the price

What has impressed me that Thai Wat are a sanctuary of Nature: fishes gambol in ponds pigeons pick food squirrels surreptitiously climb the trees. Here in phras Singh thou not water pond but plenty of greenery in conversation with thai temple architecture. Only thing disturbing was the side road on which traffic plies creating pollution in air and and in ears. There is a school it seems and diesel fume emitting buses carry children home may be. Buddha in art is in thai style with flyers for kindness to all living Beings hung around the golden stupa. I think they call Stupa Chedi here. May be I am wrong. Chiang Mai old town seems like a Buddhist pilgrimage. Buddha Namah!

THB 50 for entrance ticket for foreigner. There is a big golden Chedi in inside the area. This is one of the iconic temples in Chiang Mai Old City which is really worth visiting, beautiful, authentic and ancient.

Beautiful temple with plenty to see. Highly recommend checking out the outside and inside of the temple buildings as there is so much detail and artistry on the statues, walls, and ceilings.

Wat Phra Singh – A Jewel of Chiang Mai Wat Phra Singh is one of Chiang Mai’s most iconic temples, famous for its stunning Lanna architecture and the revered Phra Singh Buddha statue. The intricate details, golden accents, and peaceful courtyards create a serene yet awe-inspiring atmosphere. Walking through its halls feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by centuries of history and devotion. A must-visit for anyone seeking culture, beauty, and spiritual energy in the heart of the old city.

A great place that is full of legend, history and culture. I joined an evening walking tour of three ancient temples and was briefed by my guide Vasit on all the details. Vasit knows not only the temples, he also knew all the details about the histories of the temples, the reasons for their construction. The tour was great. It was in the evening evening and avoided the day time heat. The temples also gave a different vibe in the night time. Unfortunately, the tour was interrupted by a long and heavy thunderstorm.

Wat Chedi Luang Varaviharn is a captivating temple complex nestled in the heart of Chiang Mai's Old City. This historical site features a partially crumbled chedi dating back to the 15th century, which stands as a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage. Visitors are drawn not only by its architectural grandeur but also by the pillar believed to offer protection to the city.
If you only have enough time for one temple in Chiangmai this would be my choice. It’s jut more interesting and feels different to all the other temples, that honestly all feel a bit the same and blend into each other after you’ve wandered through half a dozen or so. This temple stands out with the impressive ruins of the old temple, there’s lots of different interesting areas and plenty of great photo opportunities.
Jason ( — Google review
I loved this temple so much it was so unique. From the minute you walk in (tickets needed think not much 50 bht each for tourists) it was grand and well preserved. There is a shrine to the pillar which only men are allowed in. Then the main temple with huge columns and Buddhas. The chedi which was half destroyed is also impressive, once there were elephants standing all around and you can see a small replica outside. It’s lovely and feels ancient. The other areas house many Buddhas and shrines, gardens are lovely lots of flowers and beautiful trees. Superb

50 bht to get in. 100 bht to hire a sarong to cover knees. The ladies providing these are some of the rudest people I have ever come across in Thailand. They threw the sarong at me when I hired, when I took it back I put it down on the table to look for my return card, they started yelling at me in Thai and making furious hand motions trying to tell me to fold it up. I was completely dumb struck that this woman was having such a strong reaction but also, when I initially hired there was a massive pile just dumped on the desk so I’m not sure why I was being yelled at. I handed over the card, got my money back and got out of there as quickly as possible. Such a bad look for the northern thais who I have found to be the most welcoming friendliest people in Thailand as a whole besides this cranky young woman. Not to mention this attitude inside of a temple which is considered to be such a sacred place is really off putting! I wish I could rate the temples and service seperate however it was not a relaxing or spiritual experience being treated this way upon both arrival and departure of the temple. The rest of the temple experience was absolutely spectacular. I went at night so there were far less people and the whole place was lit up beautifully. There’s a lot to explore and doesn’t feel like you’re in the middle of the hustling bustling Chiang Mai. Definitely recommend. Maybe just take your own sarongs!
Julz P — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking, especially at night! Wat Chedi Luang Varaviharn is one of the most beautiful temples I’ve ever visited. The golden details on the main viharn (chapel) shimmer under the evening lights, creating a magical and peaceful atmosphere. The craftsmanship of the carvings and decorations is simply stunning — every inch feels like a work of art. At night, the contrast between the softly lit golden temple and the ancient brick chedi behind it makes the whole complex feel timeless. You can quietly walk around, take in the history, and feel a deep sense of calm. Inside, the golden Buddha statues and ornate columns glow beautifully — it’s a serene and spiritual experience. If you’re in Chiang Mai, I highly recommend visiting after sunset. It’s quieter, cooler, and the temple looks absolutely mesmerizing under the night sky. A perfect spot for reflection, photography, and appreciating the beauty of Thai architecture and culture. 🌕✨

Serene, peaceful and calm. The temple is also colossal and well maintained. A must-visit place in Chiang Mai. Entrance fee is collected from the visitors but it’s worth it. The benches and chairs in the temple premises are also very nice to sit and admire the view.
Toon N — Google review
This is really spotlight in Chiang Mai Old City. Giant architecture with primitive material, making it an ancient look. There are also several small temples around in this area which are worth visiting. The entrance ticket price is THB 50 for foreigners. In the morning you can wait outside to see monks collecting alms. The white wall background with giant trees will make spectacular pictures.
Harry T — Google review
Located in the heart of Chiang Mai’s Old City, this is a truly magnificent temple steeped in history. ⛩️ Since I visited on a Sunday, the temple grounds were filled with young novice monks, creating a warm and peaceful atmosphere. The main hall and the entire complex are spacious, with a towering central chedi that dominates the site. Although parts of the elephant carvings were damaged—likely due to an earthquake long ago—the temple still conveys a deep sense of history and reverence. Within the grounds, there is also a beautiful golden reclining Buddha.✨ Gazing upon its serene expression brings a sense of calm and tranquility. In the evening, the temple becomes even more atmospheric, with the sound of monks chanting echoing through the grounds. The entrance fee is 50 Baht per person. If you’re visiting Chiang Mai, this temple is a must-see for those who wish to experience history, culture, and spiritual serenity all in one place.
TOMIO Y — Google review
Such a cool place to view new and ancient! I believe the ruins of the old temple are about 600 years old. One one side there are still large stone elephants that are the remnants of old. Large gongs that have a ritual and procedure before hitting as hard as you with the included mallet. Learn how to make the gong sing like a singing bowl by rubbing it after your wish.

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is a lively market in Thailand's northern capital, offering a wide array of experiences. The historic center is surrounded by monasteries and temples, with accommodations ranging from traditional homes to modern city hotels. The night bazaar, open from 18:00 to 22:30 daily, features an extensive collection of stalls and shops selling local crafts, souvenirs, street food, clothing, electronics and more.
A fun filled night bazaar that has food, games and cheap stuff to buy. Be ready to bargain, never take the first price. Best to bring cash as some vendors don’t prefer credit (costs them a %) My favorite was the potstickers or fried dumplings, however you may call them in your part of the world.
John F — Google review
What a fun experience. If you've ever done any night market you'll know what to expect here. Vendors, food, and music. It definitely was more tourist than locals, but the vibe was still high energy. The street food was delicious. I didn't do much shopping as I went solely for the immersion. There are a lot of people moving all over the place so if you have children, keep them close. As adults we got separated. A good time was definitely had.

Markets for days. One of the best in Thailand. Friendly vendors. Realistic prices, not pushy at all. Great experience. Food options were also delicious. Plenty of different stall instead of the same thing over and over. Give it a go. You won’t be disappointed.

I bought a high quality crocodile wallet that would be at least $150 anywhere else. At the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar I got it for 950TB - $29. Crazy… Also bought two zipperless pieces of luggage (carry-on and medium) for $42. My wife got Thai pants for all her friends in Florida for 100 TB - $3 US. Great deals nice people good value. Recommend

Lovely market, lots of things to look at and buy, and things are not repeated which is a nice change. Some quite touristy restaurants but the food court is ok. If you love Thai food perhaps just explore and go over the road to one of the amazing restaurants like Ekachan for a proper meal! There is a little bar (photo) on the corner down near the back entrance that is nice and chill though and worth a visit for a cold drink and some people watching.

Huge range of products from food to clothing to furniture. You name it, it's here. Prices are surprisingly low for a tourist area. There are some great deals to be had, some Vendors will barter.

We went to a few of the different night markets in Chiang Mai and I think this one was the best one. There are many offshoot of the market in different buildings and streets. There was a huge variety from different types of food to different things to buy. There’s also a bar which has live music and you can hear it from the street in the area so if you get some food from the food parts of the Knight market, you can eat it while listening to some nice music. It was child friendly.

Mae Sa Elephant Camp, located in the Mae Sa Valley of northern Thailand, is a popular attraction where visitors can interact closely with elephants. It offers various experiences such as elephant shows, painting, and activities like bathing and riding. The camp is home to the largest assembly of domesticated elephants in the region and is dedicated to rescuing and protecting these magnificent creatures from abuse. Visitors can witness elephants painting, playing sports, dancing, pulling lumber, and even playing music.
Mae Sa Elephant Camp is a very interesting and thoughtful place to visit. What’s particularly heartening is that there are no elephant rides here — instead, visitors are encouraged to interact with the elephants in a more ethical and respectful way. The entrance ticket includes a basket of bananas and mangoes for feeding the elephants, which is a lot of fun. Each elephant has its own preference — some go straight for the bananas, while others absolutely love mangoes. It’s amusing to watch their personalities shine through. The camp is set in a lush, green environment with a gentle stream flowing through, creating a peaceful and natural space for the elephants. While it’s hard to fully know how the animals are cared for behind the scenes, we truly hope they are treated with the kindness they deserve. If you’re looking for an ethical elephant experience in Thailand, this is a great place to consider.

We had gotten recommend this tour and glad we did. Was fun to interact with the elephants, feed them and the see just how capable they are. If I had not witnessed them pain I would not have believed it. The fished painting photo is below. They had an on site buffet that have a very good assortment of food and drinks. The family really enjoyed our visit and made some good memories.

One of my plans during my vacation in Thailand is to visit the elephant sanctuary. Here we go, generous friends took me to this sanctuary with all their efforts. I owe them BIG thank for that. I had a blast at the sanctuary and loved everything I saw. Who said elephants are dangerous? To me, they are very friendly. 😉
Potjamarn A — Google review
I booked a full-day program with my partner and even in the rain, we had a really nice time. Mr. Den was an amazing tour guide. He took great pictures and videos of us and also answered all of our questions. The Camp has made changes to how they interact with the elephants. No more riding or shows 👍. We spent the day, feeding them, making medicine for them, and bathing them. It felt like we were truly helping take care of the elephants while having a fun time!
Eliany R — Google review
This is not a sanctuary, it’s hidden exploitation. Elephants are kept in wooden cages, some with chains, and forced to approach tourists, bathe, pose for photos, and perform unnatural tricks. The animals show clear signs of stress (swaying, shouting, begging desperately for food). They advertise themselves as a conservation center, but in reality it’s just a tourist circus disguised as a sanctuary. Before 2019 it was known for elephant shows and paintings, and now it rebranded as “The Chang” to deceive visitors looking for an ethical experience. If you truly care about elephants, avoid this place. Choose real sanctuaries, like Elephant Nature Park, where the animals live in better conditions and are not forced to perform.
Pablo S — Google review
We dropped in on our way past whilst out riding. Lovely spot to see such magnificent elephants. We fed them some fruit, took some photos, chatted to their handles and really enjoyed our time.
Nathan P — Google review
We spent a half-day at Mae Sa Elephant Camp (now renamed The Chang) just outside Chiang Mai, and the experience was both lively and thought-provoking. We loved how up-close we could get with the elephants. The kids got to feed them, and we watched them bathe in the river and roam around. Walking beside these gentle giants in such a lush setting was incredible. There was also a short program explaining elephant anatomy and traditional care practices. We helped make herbal nutrition balls and learned about the shift the camp is making away from elephant shows and rides toward more ethical interactions. The setting itself was scenic, with well-shaded paths and a natural river running through. The staff were warm and knowledgeable, and it didn’t feel too touristy. The experience felt meaningful for the kids—they learned about conservation and animal welfare in a very hands-on way. Still, we couldn’t help but reflect on the bigger picture. Some parts of the camp still appear to offer limited performances, depending on the area and timing, so it’s important to ask what’s included before visiting. As a family, we chose to stick to feeding and observing, which felt more aligned with supporting responsible tourism. If you’re traveling with kids and want a personal, educational encounter with elephants, Mae Sa can be memorable—just go in with awareness and focus on the activities that prioritize the animals’ well-being.

Big mountain where is just west of Mueang Chiang mai. I’d hiked this mountain with my young daughters started from Nonghor monastery to the summit of Doi Pui via Baan Khun Chiang Khian. And returned to city through the trail path which name is Crazy dust and Huay Kaew waterfall. There are many coffee farm on high land too, where has the altitude of around 1,000m Total distance is around 23km and total ascent is 1450m. It is good hike course but should prepare enough drinking water.

It is good to visit around sunset and see both the daytime and the brightly lit lights during the day. The admission fee per person, including the elevator, is 50 baht, but on the first day of visit, we did not charge for children's tickets, but on the second visit, we had to pay. I don't know what's right. When you go inside, there is a monk, and if you tip the box, he wishes you good luck and puts on your bracelet. My kids love it. It would be nice to try it when you have a chance.

Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, located in northern Thailand near Chiang Mai, is a stunning destination that offers a blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and outdoor adventure. The park is home to the famous Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a sacred Buddhist temple with breathtaking views of Chiang Mai. Lush forests, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife make it an excellent place for hiking and exploring. Highlights include Mon Tha Than Waterfall, Huay Kaew Waterfall, and Bhubing Palace. The cooler temperatures and well-maintained trails attract nature lovers and photographers. Whether you're seeking spiritual sites or outdoor activities, this park is a must-visit.

Doi Suthep-Pui National Park is the closest national park to Chiang Mai, situated approximately 10km away from the city. With its lush green forests and mountains, this location has become a popular tourist destination. The most popular site within this national park is Doi Suthep, renowned for its temple at the mountain summit and numerous waterfalls, thereby making it more famous than other national parks.
Arpita S — Google review
Amazing place to visit. There are 10 waterfalls to see and its about 3km up and 3km back but there is a second car park between waterfalls 3 and 4 so you don't have to walk the entire way if you don't want to
Craig B — Google review
Definitely consider getting a rental car if you're planning to explore the national park; it's vast, and public transport like taxis or Grab are scarce. The Don Pui village offers a unique experience, though it's quite exposed and lacks shade. The temple, on the other hand, is a pleasant spot with the bonus of photographers ready to capture lovely family moments. Before heading to the waterfalls, check in with the information centre regarding the water levels; it's not as impressive during dry spells. Overall, navigating the park with a rental car enhances the experience significantly. Without one, you might find it challenging to get around.

Nestled in the heart of Chiang Mai, the Museum of World Insects and Natural Wonders is a charming private establishment that showcases an impressive array of insect specimens, fossils, and shells. Founded in 2002 by the passionate entomologist Manop and his wife Rampa, who holds a Ph.D. in the field, this museum reflects their lifelong dedication to studying these fascinating creatures.
Along the niman Rd, where amazing coffee shops abound the exists a very unusual house that is also a most wonderful museum. Museum of World Insects and Natural Wonders offers a view of 60 to 80 years of collecting and presenting insects primarily from Thailand but a few stragglers might just pop out at you. Butterflies and moths, spiders and beetles, stones and shells, as well as some almost hidden treasures from the very early Triassic age. To miss this 200 thb experience is missing something you will always regret.

Absolutely incredible little find in Chiang Mai. I had the entire place to myself and spent probably an hour and a half there. I'd absolutely attend again because I know I didn't see it all fully the first time. There are so many specimens!

Honestly, for someone who's very nerdy or into inseft collecting or natural stuffs (rocks, fossils, seashells), this place is very nice. Of course I found their collection fascinating. Lotssss of insects, some I've never seen. Also keep in mind that they already warned about no air-con and that it's kinda hot inside. It was very hot for me and I was sweating like crazy. Nevertheless, I admire the owner for having this expansive collection. Ps. All collections are not alive. There are fans inside but still hot. Entrance fee is 200 THB

One of the most magical places in Chiang Mai. The founders clearly loved nature, from the smallest mosquito to the largest elephant and their love and enthusiasm is evident from the beautiful descriptions on the rare items collected. The dedication to the study of mosquitoes is fascinating and the collection is amazing, both the vast collection of insects and beautiful rare items such as petrified wood from Thailand or tiny carvings of elephants and large carvings of beetles. One of my favourite parts was the art of termites - so inspirational to find beauty in unassuming places created by nature. If you love nature I would highly recommend paying this place a visit.

Great collection of arthropod specimens! This is a private museum and its gate is closed while it’s open. You have the ring the bell and the host will answer the door. The collection is vast and well-placed. The museum has no air conditioning though. It also shows some record of a female entomologist’s story of her study of the mosquitoes in Thailand. Recommended if you’re interested in insects. I could use a bit more explanation of the specimens though.

What a wonderful find have seen these elephant statues in various cities around the world but never really understood what the story was behind them. Well worth the visit and the opportunity to support Moshi.

We loved it here!! This is not a elephant sanctuary - the lovely lady who showed us around said a lot of people come looking to ride elephants- it is quite the opposite, it takes you through the workshop where they make elephant statues from start to finish. You can buy the statues too at a small cost for some and large cost for others. Really lovely thing to do while in this town!

We enjoyed our tour and our painting time at this site. They share the history of their business, the elephant support they provide and their products. The tour includes meeting artists that hand paint the elephant sculptures. The sculptures are fiberglass and once painted they are beautiful. I’m posting my Starry Van Pachyderm Inspired by Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and the Van Gogh version they have onsite. It’s the first image. The rest are painted by the professionals! We loved our visit! As others have noted there are no elephants at this location, rather there is a lot of creative fun and beautiful painted sculptures.

Open every day now until 5pm. If anything, drop by to visit their museum and learn about elephants and Mosha, the baby elephant losing a leg in the land mine in 2006. With the help from Elephant Parade, the now 17-year-old pachyderm has relied on a prosthetic leg to be refitted at times. Then enjoy the 'paint your own elephant' for a fee after looking at all those 'magnificent designs' by people from various countries. And finally perhaps pick up a souvenir to your liking.

Got to know Elephant Parade in HK in 2014 and has always loved the idea behind and the designed products. Here is the workshop and it’s artists and it’s nice to see the behind the scene story

Went to 2 outlets. 1 at one nimman and 1 at Chiang Mai. The 1 at Chiang Mai there is a history gallery to show how the elephant parade begins. Other than booking a slot to paint your own elephant, there is not much activity. Can't pay a visit if you have the time.

Siam River Adventures White Water Rafting & White Water Kayaking is a company based in Chiang Mai, Thailand that offers adventure tours focused on preserving local customs. They specialize in whitewater rafting and kayaking trips, with their guides trained by international swift water rescue instructors. The nearby Mae Taeng river provides an excellent run of grade three and four rapids for a thrilling experience. Visitors can stay in rooms directly on the river at their jungle camp for an immersive experience.
Had an awesome time here with the crew! Everyone was so nice from the drivers to the guides. Special shout-out to Jack for taking all the fun lines down the river. The class 4 spot is not a joke, most of the western world would call it a small waterfall. Lol. Totally worth it though, all the guides knew what they were doing and had excellent control of the boats. Their safety briefing at the beginning was also very concise and comprehensive. Overall I was very impressed with this operation and the high quality experience they produce. I would have loved to stay at the campus and explored the area more if we had the time.

Amazing river water rafting experience. I’ve been rafting on this same trail 8 years ago and it has changed a lot. Team was nice and went through the instructions clearly. They also make you practice before going through the rafts so everyone knows what to do. Pickup time was punctual and rafting experience was very safe with the amount of instructors present. Showering facilities was good, clean and photos came out great as well. Price was reasonable aligning with inflation. Overall a great experience for people who have never done it and are more on a cautious side on what to expect.

Perfect and unforgettable experience. Start to finish the hospitality, safety and enjoyment was outstanding. We had a wonderful day and we're lucky enjoy to see elephants by the river! The river can be dicey, we did capsize but the rescue was immediate and well coordinated. Beautiful day!

Thrilling Rafting Experience with Siam Rivers The staff at Siam Rivers are not only very professional but also super friendly and fun. We had such a great time and laughed a lot throughout the day. The rapids are truly impressive—much more intense than the rafting we had done in France. The adrenaline rush is incredible, and the experience is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended for anyone looking for excitement and unforgettable memories!

We loved this rafting tour! Everything was just great. The organisation worked out very well, pick up, for example, was on time and comfortable. We started with a good lunch at arrival, then instructions and then the rafting for about 2h. We had 4 people plus one guide for each raft. The equipment was good and all safety measurements were taken (they are really taking care of you!). Then we got snacks and refreshments again plus time to shower and freshen up. After our trip back home, we received an email with all the great photos they were taking of us during the rafting. Amazing! Must do in Chiang Mai!

Siam River Adventures is a brilliant outdoor adventure company. Each of our guides was incredibly warm, considerate and great fun. We had a fantastic day, beautiful healthy food, and a great adventure on the water where safety was paramount. We look forward to a home stay, some trekking and more rafting the next time we visit!!

1000% recommend! And that’s coming from someone who’s also in the adventure tourism industry. Definitely worth a visit. They replied instantly when I was inquiring about the trip. Super helpful. On time. Good food. The guides are awesome. Super experienced, super safe, super fun, and absolutely hilarious. Would do it again tomorrow if I could!

Just finished two days white water kayaking with Siam River Adventures. Nop who taught us was fantastic, a patient and knowledgeable teacher. The rest of the people we met (other guides, cooking staff, drivers) were all SO lovely! The new riverside camp was a highlight too - an amazing stay even without the kayaking. Nop taught us to roll and how to paddle the rapids, and we joined the raft during sections that were too difficult. Amazing company that I'd highly recommend!

Located in a charming old colonial building, RARE EARTH Tribal Art Gallery/Museum offers a unique dining experience with its antique ambiance and riverside views. The restaurant's series of dining rooms create a relaxed atmosphere, making guests feel like they are dining in someone's home. Visitors can expect to engage with the talkative and knowledgeable owner while exploring the shop's items, each with its own story. Although prices may be slightly higher, the quality is guaranteed.
What a treasure trove. Well worth a visit for anyone interested in authentic tribal artifacts. Chis did share his knowledge generously and told us that what is on display only represents part of his collection. I bought a necklace from him which I love and which is a welcome addition to my own collection. If I hadn’t been leaving the next day, I would have liked to have seen more. Thank you.

Lovely little gallery with a small collection of interesting artifacts on display. I would have loved to stay and ask about the origin and meaning of some of the trinkets, and maybe even make a purchase; the owner seemed knowledgable about his wares. I took a photo of one of his displays and he made a remark saying he wished I had asked before taking it, which I understand. However, his pompous demeanor and general arrogant attitude toward my friend and I after that made it hard for me to stay. Walking away, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth and a memory of old and dusty tribal art in a drab setting. I understand that putting up a sign saying "Please No Photos" might seem tacky or snobby, but if you don't want people doing so maybe you should consider using one, especially in an area that is rife with tourists.

(Translated by Google) This is a shop opened by an Englishman who seems to have lived here for a long time. The British seem to be quite nice people, but they didn't open the door even though they arrived during business hours. I don't know if that's the case? Because he seems to have encountered some things recently, so he can't take good care of the store. I made a special appointment with him, so I went over to visit. It’s rare to be able to speak fluently in English in Thailand. After all, the other party is from the British side. Some very powerful products seem to have been produced by the British in the early days more than 20 years ago. I collected some things belonging to China’s ethnic minorities. The British shopkeeper said that he went directly to their tribe when he went to Yunnan, China in the early days, and after getting along with them, he collected these things from them. After collecting these things for many years, he and his wife decided to sell them after retirement, so here they are. You can see a lot of Miao food or very old things that actually don’t exist now. Basically, here you don’t need to be afraid of buying fakes, because most of the things are really old things and they are better than those made later. If it is a little more detailed, what I am referring to later may still be defined as an old thing, so its time point should be earlier. The only thing that feels a bit pity is its pricing range, which may be a bit too high for just one item. I'm not sure if it's more than 100,000 or more. I shouldn't be able to sell it to local Thais at this price. Their income is not that high, but his stuff is really good. As for whether it has such value, it's really a matter of opinion. If you really like it, you might still be able to buy it. After all, there is no fixed price for old things. The store owner wants it to be whatever it is. If you like it and are willing to part with it, then it can be this price. If you have the chance, you can still come here to dig out treasures. The store is small. However, you can see some small things, but the shop owner seems to want his store to be very neat, so he may feel a little pressure when shopping, and may be a little afraid of getting his things crooked, but I think this is what he thinks about these folk. Keep up the art (Original)

Nestled just outside the bustling old town of Chiang Mai, Wat Umong Suan Putthatham is a captivating historic temple complex that transports visitors back to the 13th century. This enchanting site features a network of ancient tunnels adorned with intriguing cave paintings and serene Buddha statues, all set against a backdrop of lush greenery and a tranquil lake. The atmosphere here is peaceful, making it an ideal spot for meditation or simply soaking in the natural beauty surrounding you.
**A Truly Magical and Peaceful Escape** ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wat Umong isn't just another temple; it's a unique and profound experience. From the moment you step onto the grounds, the busy noise of Chiang Mai seems to fade away, replaced by the sounds of rustling leaves and distant temple bells. The ancient tunnels are the main attraction, and walking through them feels like stepping back in time. It's cool, quiet, and humbling. Unlike the more ornate temples in the city, Wat Umong's beauty is in its simplicity and its powerful sense of peace. You can feel the centuries of meditation and prayer embedded in the walls. The grounds are a sprawling, forested park perfect for a quiet stroll. We loved watching the fish and turtles in the pond and following the paths to find hidden Buddha statues nestled among the trees. It feels more like a spiritual sanctuary than a tourist spot. If you're looking for a place to reflect, meditate, or simply escape the heat and crowds, this is it. It’s a beautiful, calming haven that truly captures the spirit of Northern Thailand. An absolute must-visit.

Foreigners pay a 20B entrance fee to the tunnels and women need to make sure their knees are covered. The tunnels didn't feel authentic, kind of like they were sculpted. To me, the experience was somewhat unimpressive. There are art exhibits and pleasant grounds to walk around.

One of my favorite temples in Chiang Mai. The highlight is the unique ancient tunnel with a Buddha inside, which gives the place a truly special and spiritual feeling. The temple grounds are surrounded by nature, making it peaceful and relaxing to walk around. Before entering the tunnel, make sure your shoulders are covered and you’re wearing pants. If not, the temple provides fabric to cover up. A very memorable and meaningful place to visit!

Beautiful temple in the forest outside of Chiang Mai. With tunnels, bats, thousands of chickens, frogs, doves, fish , dogs , cats whatever you can imagine. Beautiful scenery, very green and shady all over. Come here wit Grab for 70 Baht. It's also a nice walk around on a hot sunny day. Can get busy during the day but is very calm in the late afternoon. I really liked it here. A must see for nature lovers.

Unique, peaceful temple in the woods with a small lake. Tunnels with shrines (taking shoes off first). There is a 20 baht fee for entrance. Nearby there are some nice cafes for a cool break.

It's ancient / forest / temple / Buddhism together in a big area. There are many things to see here, including the ancient Chedi and Tunnels, a library and small Museum. You should visit this place once in Chiang Mai trip. Not too far from Old City.
Harry T — Google review
Based on its architecture and history, I believe this temple is even more ancient than Doi Suthep Temple. The underground tunnels, built to resemble caves, create a quiet and serene atmosphere — perfect for meditation or just escaping the city. Inside, you’ll find Lanna-style mural paintings over 500 years old, the oldest surviving of their kind. The Lanna-style stupa, influenced by Pagan and Sri Lankan (Sukhothai) art, adds to the temple’s historic charm. The important note for all visitors: please avoid touching the inner walls of the tunnels. These ancient mural paintings are very fragile, and if we are not careful, they could disappear soon. It’s the perfect visit if you’re searching for a temple that’s less crowded and more traditional — a place full of history, spirituality, and peace. Ps. Admission free 20 thb as donation

A really lovely pagoda to visit while in Chiang Mai. It’s very easy to reach and the walk around the grounds is pleasant and not tiring at all, making it suitable for all ages. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, a nice little escape from the busier parts of the city. One of the highlights here is the tunnel section, which has a small entrance fee of just 20 baht. Inside, you’ll find more Buddha statues tucked away in the quiet passages, creating a unique and almost mystical vibe. It’s not something you see at every temple, so it’s definitely worth the small fee. Overall, this is a great spot to spend about 30 minutes to an hour exploring. Whether you’re interested in temples, local history, or just want a peaceful place to slow down, this pagoda is a lovely choice. A simple but memorable stop in Chiang Mai!

Additionally, the market features affordable clothing, fashion accessories, and household goods. It's a great place to immerse yourself in the local way of life and explore the vibrant atmosphere.

Local market that caters more to locals and definitely an enjoyable stop for visitors. The food court inside the building has many seats. You can order from each vendor or grab a seat and have the runners place your food order (from the stack of menus at the table). Once your food arrives, pay for it with cash. The runners will also help with change. This market is large and covers a lot of territory. It’s a very comprehensive market. There are many clothes and accessory vendors, where one can find beautiful, creative, artsy pieces or everyday wear from socks, under clothes, and any items for all family members. Shopping for fruits, vegi, snacks. They got it too. Tools, school supplies? Got that too. So many things. My favorite place was a small papaya salad vendor. I can eat their food everyday.

This place is wild. It is huge! I wasn't really sure where it started or ended, but it is awesome. They have tons of stuff. Pantry ingredients, dried fruit and nuts, clothing, souvenirs, fresh fruit and food stalls, jewelry, kitchen equipment, candy, ect. They have some awesome fried pork skin vendors too. Its worth a trip to check out for sure. The area around the market was really lovely as well. Great shops and vendors, and a nice river front area to check out.

This is a classic and very traditional local market. It's the kind of place where you truly find everything. It's a large, multi-story market: the ground floor is focused on food, with lots of fresh fruit, dried goods, spices, and local foods. It's also a great place to buy traditional dried mangoes, usually at a better price than in tourist shops. On the upper floors, the variety continues with clothes, fabrics, and household items. It's a busy, sometimes chaotic place, but great for seeing local life. Almost everything is sold for cash only, so it's good to go prepared.
Luana B — Google review
The market had grown steadily since Covid-19. Back in 2017-20 it was a one level market but now there's food and other stalls available. Mostly clothes, bags and children's toys. Worth a stroll around for a couple of hours. I bought the brown bag here 120 baht in 2017, the black (identical) one in 2025 for 300 baht.
Steven B — Google review
An indoor traditional market for fresh produce and daily necessities. Dried fruits and traditional snacks are also available. A nice place for shopping of inexpensive souvenirs. Elephant pants and clothing are at very reasonable price. The market was closed temporarily for business during flooding last month. Recovery quickly. But the marks of floodwaters could still be seen.

The Three Kings Monument, located in the heart of Chiang Mai's old-walled city, pays tribute to the founding fathers of the Lanna Kingdom. This elegant monument and its surrounding courtyard are considered the symbolic center of modern Chiang Mai. The sculpture depicts Kings Mengrai, Ramkamhaeng, and Ngam Muang, who played significant roles in establishing the city.
King Mangrai, King Ramkhamhaeng, and King Ngam Mueang, the founding fathers of Lanna Kingdom, are commemorated in this 1983 sculptural wonder by artist Kaimook Chuto. The sculptures themselves are beautifully made and I wondered if they were alive. Behind the Three Kings Monument is the 'Chiang Mai Cultural Centre'. I did not realise that the Centre was right behind the Monument; and was elated to find it so. I was trying to take in as much as possible of Chiang Mai's Old City, just before flying out. The Centre and this Monument are central to this city's history. Entrance fees for this Centre is 90 baht for adults and that's a steal. You access all areas, even the special displays, for this ticket fee. Since I walked in at a time when it was not crowded, I could take my time at reading the information about how Chiang Mai was established and about the Lanna Kingdom's history. The dioramas are very life-like and I enjoyed seeing the manner in which people lived during early Chiang Mai's history. I would suggest not rushing through the cultural centre, but taking your time to see everything and to watch the videos that show Chiang Mai's positive evolvement over the years. The Centre is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays; which is why I had not scheduled in a visit to the old city on those days originally. There are many tuk-tuks around the Centre and it is easy to take a Grab taxi from there to anywhere else.

Three Kings Monument in Chiang Mai is a must-visit landmark in the Old City, commemorating the city’s founding. The bronze statues of King Mengrai, King Ramkhamhaeng, and King Ngam Muang stand proudly in a peaceful plaza surrounded by trees and benches. It’s easy to stroll around and admire the detailed craftsmanship up close. The plaza is especially nice in the morning or late afternoon when it’s quieter, perfect for photos and soaking in a bit of history. Free to visit, it’s a short but meaningful stop that gives insight into Chiang Mai’s heritage.

We loved this place! Very informative but also super cool insects to look at and also interact with!! We lived the butterfly enclosure, the staff were so nice to eve give us a box of butterflies to release into the enclosure. The male staff then showed us the scorpions, spiders and iguanas and he was very informative. Great for adults and kids!

I visited the Mae-rim area, an hour away from Hang-dong, during my children's school vacation. Tickets were 100 baht for adults/60 baht for children, and I visited because the children liked insects. It was daytime on weekdays, so there were not many people, so kids enjoyed leisurely. There were lots of butterflies in the butterfly garden and The children experienced painting on wooden key chains where they could experience art, played with iguanas, and would touch and observe the caterpillar for a long time. There are a lot of insects on display, including spiders, stag beetles, and butterflies. But it's not a place to stay for a long time. It's a good place to visit with your children at this price.

We visited this place back in January 2025. This place is exceed my expectation, it is fun and educational not only for kids, and for me as well. With the very friendly staffs assistance, we are comfortable to touch the insects that we won't touch normally in the nature. Place is not big, but good enough to enjoy for an hour. I recommend this place for family activity with kids if you visit Chiang Mai, go here if your itinerary is the north side of the city.

Nice spot, especially for kids I'd say with the big educational first part of the museum. But even for adults it's still worth a stop, load of insects to see or even touch. Some glass boxes could clearly be better with a deep cleaning, hedgehog are also unexpected here, but otherwise no complaints

Ginger Farm Kitchen, located at One Nimman, is a farm-to-kitchen restaurant that prides itself on using organic and free-range ingredients from local homesteads to create modern-style Northern Thai cuisine. The dishes are made with ingredients shipped from nearby organic farmers. The menu features traditional Northern Thai fare such as pomelo salad with crab paste and dried shrimp, salt-crusted grilled fish, grilled pork neck, and mango sticky rice for dessert.
This is a real gem, and probably because I ordered the right combination of dishes. Their beef hangleh curry is probably the best I've tried, it was meaty, spicy and just super tender. I also enjoyed their long bean and som tum. Their food preparation tasted really refined, and the quality is really way up there. Price is medium high but reasonable.

Chanced upon this place but was totally impressed with the freshness and standard of its food. Tried the steamed sea bass, seafood tumyum, mango sticky rice and stir fried vegetables, all were awesome. The interior is aso well furnished giving warm and cosy vibes. Would definitely go back for other dishes.

We had a great experience here. The staff were super friendly and really patient, even when one of my twins was upset and causing a bit of a fuss. There was a good variety of food, including things our toddlers could eat, which was a big plus. The furnishings gave the place a nice vibe—really comfortable and welcoming. We especially loved the lime soda and ginger shake. Would definitely recommend!

A foodie friend and restaurant owner recommended this place to us. This might be one of the most delightful meals I've experienced... ever. We ordered a LOT of different dishes - pumpkin with egg, chicken wings, pork with seasoned jackfruit, the fried boiled egg side, mango fresh rolls, etc. So hard to choose a favorite. Gorgeous little location, literally on the farm. We followed them on IG after the meal. Well done, Ginger Farm! ✨️🧡✨️

The Ginger Farm (One Nimman Area) The Ginger Farm in the One Nimman area brings a refreshing and cozy atmosphere. The restaurant’s décor caught my eye as I walked by, so I decided to stop in for lunch. They offer a wide variety of dishes and are very vegan-friendly. Whatever you’re craving—especially if it’s Thai food—you’ll definitely find something you like here. We had a really good time!

Very nice and clean restaurant. I liked deep fried pork valley and pad thai. Although there are many high review score restaurants in Chiang Mai, this restaurant was one of the best in Chiang Mai. This restaurant is underrated on Google reviews. According to my experience, I should not trust too high review score with too many reviews which is necessary to maintain high score by owner. I was fooled by the high Google review score in Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Hanoi and ended up disappointed with the food.

Ginger Farm Kitchen is a cozy and stylish restaurant in One Nimman that brings a fresh farm to table twist to Northern Thai cuisine. The atmosphere feels warm earthy and modern with wooden textures and greenery that create a relaxing and inviting space. The food is full of flavor yet balanced using local organic ingredients that taste clean and authentic.

Un-ethical business & not friendly to children. Today, i went to eat with my son. He got sick and he vomitted when he tried to reach the toilet. I know it's not good, but it's an unexpected event. However, they charged us 500 bath because of that, and they do charge 10% service fee on the total bill. It's not human at all. The food is not good & not value for price as well. I'll never eat here again. I strongly not recommend this place.

Hidden Village Chiang Mai is a little-known gem nestled in the heart of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Just a short 15-minute drive from the International Airport, this hidden village offers an exciting adventure for families. It's a dinosaur-themed park with life-sized statues that will captivate both children and adults alike. While some visitors have noted that some animatronic figures may not be as lively as before, it still remains an enjoyable experience for kids.
It's a wholesome place, I would've loved it as a child! It's got lots of big bug statues and play areas, and you can feed the animals (they've got a variety that seem to be looked after well).
Tanya S — Google review
Boring and expensive. Ants and mosquitos everywhere. Defo not worth the 500 Thai Bhat we paid for 1 child and 2 adults. You have to pay extra for each ride in addition to the entrance fee if your child wants to go on them. Extra to feed the animals and what you get in the size of the food baggies is very small. If you don't want to pay the extra fees, it's just a ealk around some sculptures and a very boring/standard playpark you can get anywhere for free. However, it is clean, well-maintained and has shaded areas. Our kid really enjoyed interacting with the rabbits and the guinea pigs. These were the only good points about this place. If the rides were included in the price, would probably be a bit more enjoyable.
Viktoriya B — Google review
Another Thai tourist attraction slowly becoming decrepit. No animatronics function. And the entire park needs refurbishing. Anyhow, still good for kids a an afternoon walk amongst the life-size animals
Stephen T — Google review
Do you really think this place is expensive? This is not a hotel playground. The grounds are very spacious and constantly being cleaned. Although it’s not the newest facility, there are many hidden things that children would enjoy. The animals were also living quite comfortably, and the place felt clean for us as well. However, it’s more suitable for toddlers than older children, and it’s a good idea to bring a hat. I would recommend not going if it rained the day before.
Misyubraunee N — Google review
Large playground for children (5-10yr old), with several installations for playing and some animals, in a mix of jurassic park and petting farm. Admission fee (entrance only) for adults is 100B for residents, 200B for foreigners (too much). Surprising restaurant in dark wood with a western country flavor (aircon).
Caps C — Google review
The weather is so nice at that day. We enjoyed the park very much. About the price. I think it is a little bit expensive, but it’s OK. My kids like them.
Xie B — Google review
This is a must visit place in Chiang Mai for a family with kids. The kid will have an experience of many kinds of insects, flowers, dinosaurs in the vast area of green grasses and well caring. My 1 year old grandson was very exciting and our family had a good time to be here. Fee of admission is needed. Car parking is available in front of the village.
Duangporn P — Google review
A very nice place. 500 thb for 2 adults and 1 kid is worth the money. Alot animals to feed. Rabbits pig, goat guinea pig. Many nice playground for kids and a decent dino exhibit. Food price was reasonable. Only one comment, some trees/slide are is crawling with Huge red ants. Pls look at this

Restaurant
Thai restaurant
Huen Phen is a renowned restaurant in the Old City of Chiang Mai, offering authentic northern Thai cuisine. With a comprehensive English-language menu, it features classic dishes such as sai hua, nam phrik ong, and gaeng hanglay. The family-run establishment has two locations: a long-standing restaurant on Ratchamanka Road and a new setting at Baan Huen Phen Boutique Hotel.
The restaurant is actually divided in 2. One side is open during the day and looks like a traditional place, while the other part is only open for dinner and is a very surprising place. In both case the cuisine is good (we really enjoyed their sai ua), in quantity, and for a very reasonable price. We went to both sides, but our preference goes to the night part and all the surrounding artifacts. You are dining in a museum, but apparently some artifacts can be purchased. We elected to dine outside of the AC room but did not suffer from heat at all.
Fab F — Google review
Seriously good food but countered by the really rubbish service. The table next to us was in a hurry and had only just finished getting their order when we were leaving. We arrived after them! Food is great though. Very tasty and the Burmese curry very very moreish
Jerry S — Google review
Steeped in atmosphere, delicious food at quite reasonable prices, adequate service, and a very convenient location half-way along Ratchamanka Road in the Old City. I suggest booking over walk-in, and anticipate a leisurely evening. I was also curious as to why they had an all-male serving staff team, which never helps. In spite of the service issues, I recommend this restaurant.

Dinner was good! My first Khao Soi so far. I went on a Sunday around 6.30pm, the restaurant wasn’t busy. The price was ok too. I would come back!

It’s amazing! Authentic and delicious Tai food. You must go. 10/10 The restaurant is like a museum. Wonderful experience.
Deborah C — Google review
We’ve been coming here for several years — every trip, since it’s close to our hotel in the Old Town area. It’s a quieter spot, and the food is always good and consistent! We eat here several times each trip, sometimes even twice a day — it really feels like eating at home. To be honest, the Nam Ngeaw and Khao Soi aren’t our favorites compared to other places we’ve tried, but everything else — especially the Chiang Mai dishes like Naam Pu with vegetables and Hungle curry — is so delicious and very affordable. We truly love it here!
Bubie ( — Google review
The food in Thailand and Chiang Mai has been wonderful! It is tasty, fresh, and made with love and care and spice. If you want that... do not come here!!! None of that will be had... For those visiting, we have but a limited amount of time and food to eat while we are here. If you love food and flavors, this is not your place. If you like semi-warm food that tastes like it was boiled to death, and then all the worlds of flavor forgot? Then welcome to your favorite place! The chicken northern thai curry was the definition of bland(despite it having🌶🌶 next to it...). The overcooking of the greenbeans in it did not make the fibers in them tender... so ended up spitting out a massive pile of plant fiber that should have been someone else's job to do. Not the customer with their mouth at the table. The ribs were just hacked with a clever, shattered bones and all, and tossed into the fryer. The chili sauce to dip them was fairly ok though. Too bad there was only a teaspoon of it... not nearly enough for the dish or to save the rest of the food from the table. The overall experience left much(i.e., ALL) to be desired. It was an entire sad waste of an eating experience. Also the most expensive we have had so far. 20฿ for some pork noodles is infinity better and more satisfying. Go find that instead. Your taste buds will thank you. Unless you don't have any, don't care and/or hate them... come to Huen Phen...

Fairly large local market where you can find fresh products like vegetables, fruits, and meat. You can also find things like nuts and some already cooked food. I found so many vendors selling the same thing, so the variety is not as much as it seems. But it is good to come to see what things are available.

Very localized market and filled with delicious goodies. Ranging from Northern style foods to dry fruits and nuts. Although many stores sell similar food, but their recipes are different so even with identical dish. Many store offer a sample prior to purchase, so it a good chance for you to try the store best suit your likely.

Nice wet market just west of the old town area in Chiang Mai. They carry an assortment of products to purchase. Fruits, vegetables, meats, dry snacks, drinks, etc. A good area to buy your groceries or take some interesting pictures of a local market. Nice place to explore for a few hours!

Northern Thai Sausage. There are over 20 stalls selling just Northern sausages but this one in my pictures is one of the best! Super tasty, just the right amount of spiciness and not too salty, perfectly grilled but still moist. Yummy. The ‘Nong’ is very friendly and has a very sweet demeanor, compared to some pushy, tourist weary hawkers. Highly recommended.

If you are looking for fresh ingredients to cook local Thai dishes, you should find it here. My Thai cook gets everything he needs here to whip up a low caloric Tom Yum Goong. Frequented by locals so you know the price is cheap. Look for the Thai silverfish which goes well with steamed rice or congee. Not many places sell this so try some if you can.

The Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School is a highly regarded cooking school that offers both full- and half-day courses. One of the highlights is a visit to a local market where participants can select fresh ingredients for their dishes. The full-day course includes a trip to the farm, where an instructor provides a tour of the garden and educates on various fresh ingredients used in Thai cuisine. The instructor's explanations about dish preparation and cooking techniques are thorough, making the experience enjoyable and educational.
A little heads up: come hungry! You will eat so much, but every single bite is worth it. What an absolutely beautiful day spent with friends at a cooking class! It was so much more than just a lesson—it was a magical experience. We started at a bustling local market, before heading to a stunning green farm. This farm was my happy place. You could literally breathe in the fresh air and see the very plants we would soon be cooking with. Our teacher, Noon, was just a dream. She was so professional yet so warm and full of smiles—her energy was infectious! Noon, thank you for a day I’ll never forget!! The food we made was, without a doubt, the best I’ve had in all of Thailand. There’s something so special about eating a meal you created yourself, surrounded by friends in such a perfect setting.

Tommy was an amazing teacher — friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging throughout the 6 hour session. I had such a great time learning and cooking 4 delicious dishes together. Tommy made the class fun while also ensuring we were well taken care of. At the end, we even received a cookbook so we can recreate the dishes at home. There are many cooking classes in Chiang Mai, but I’m so glad I chose the farm cooking lesson at Asia Scenic. Surrounded by nature, cooking with fresh ingredients, and enjoying our own creations made it a truly memorable and wonderful experience. Highly recommend !!

We had Tommy as our chef & instructor, not only did he provide a great experience but he was extremely personable. We particularly enjoyed his humor & hospitality. He gave us a well informed tour of their farm & guided us through out our cooking. We had a 4 & 7 year old & he accommodated accordingly. The food was excellent & I would highly recommend!!! At the end of the tour we got a recipe book with all ingredients & instructions needed to remake the foods we made on the tour! So grateful for it all!

Awesome class! They made it so comfortable for our family with younger kids. Hands on for everyone and the food was all so delicious. Very smooth operation with all of the prepping and teaching. Our guide Noon was great! COME HUNGRY! We have tried to replicate some meals back at home but the flavors are no where close yet even with all the real ingredients. We will keep trying but we sure had a great time with Asia Scenic and will have this great memory forever with our kids. We will be back when we get back to Chiang Mai!
Luke — Google review
An absolute must to do in the area! Our instructor, A (that's what his name tag said), was amazing, knowledgeable, and funny. We did the local one (not farm). The food came out great and you get a cookbook included with the price that has all of the recipes of all foods listed on the menu. Our instructor was able to direct all of us at once even when we were making different dishes at the same time. The menu consisted of classic Thai dishes and you can decide how spicy you want it. Such a good time.

One of the best things I did in Chiang Mai! We went to a local market and were shown all the ingredients we’d be using. We cooked 5 different courses, including being shown how to make the curry paste. The Pad Kra Paow was my favourite. I’m vegetarian and there was the option to tailor any of the dishes to be veggie, you can also adjust the spice level to suit your taste. At the end you get to take home a cookbook with all the recipes in. On top of that all, Sue was an incredible teacher and the class was so much fun!
Molls — Google review
Absolutely fantastic evening class today with Sue, she was a brilliant teacher, and showed us how to cook some incredible dishes. No need for dinner, you’ll be full by the time you leave!! Tuesday 7th October 2025: I was not really looking forward to this when I found out we were going. Turned out to be a brilliant late afternoon cooking lesson, glad we did it. The young lady who taught us was brilliant (sorry I cant remember her name), what a great tutor. We first went to the local market where they explain the different ingredients ( I purchased some good tomatoe seeds for growing 2026 in the UK) Then the cooking lessons, followed by the eating. Their kitchen garden at the rear is something to be proud of. They keep you well hydrated with drinks throughout the time you are there. You also get the eecipe book at the end, and you can buy the apron if you want. A very enjoyable and memorable experience not to be missed.

Cafe
The Barn Eatery And Design is a charming cafe located in a leafy garden near Wat Suan Dok, just a short walk from Nimman. Housed inside a constructed barn, it offers a tranquil escape to the less touristy backstreets of suburban Chiang Mai with its rustic charm. The venue is adorned with cool artwork and stylish decor, making it an ideal spot for creative minds to gather over drinks and food.
Chill vibe done right. Usually packed with students for a good reason. If you're looking to sit quietly, this is a good spot in the area. I prefer the outdoor seats. Except for the occasional plane noise, there's hardly anything bothering your senses except for maybe birds chirping and soft playing music. Oh, and maybe when the kitchen is cooking up something spicy 😋 My go-to drink here is the peanut butter choco, because it's rare to find in the gazillion coffee shops in town but also because it's damn good.

Nice place to stay for the day. Matcha i ordered was good not great. Quality could be a little better. Food also nice and good value for the price. Atmosphere is cool but little crowded and close.

This cafe is smaller than I thought. Pictures made me think of here quite spacious. So many students are studying here. Here is like a more for local students studying cafe. Coconut pie is well known here, and it mostly consists of layered cream. Coffee is not bad... and not amazing...

Cute cafe perfect to get some work done. There are some students also which adds a good vibe. The drinks are good. Capuccino, coffee and even matcha are good. They do have oat milk. Coconut pie is to die for - the best I tried in Thailand! (I’ll miss it!) The brownie was good but coconut pie even better.

A hidden gem hide away from busy location like old city. This is more likely a local neighbourhood area and this cafe seems popular among the people live nearby as well as some tourists as you can see during the day time. Many student/local will just chill with a drink there and starts using the laptop for hours! They offer cheap and good lunches and coffees but personally I am a serious coffee drinker... I will say their coffee just average. The Barn green plants decorations of the exterior seems became the main selling points of the cafe. The interior of the cafe seem simple and the decorations seem little disorganised and such as cleverly using the space and some of the plants already dried up but still on the pots and it's really look miserable!
MERCY — Google review
Prices for the drinks are in the average price range. There is an indoor and also outdoor section in this cafe. More seats indoors and there are charging points. You can do your work in aircon comfort. However, I feel that the lights are quite dim and may be straining for the eyes if you work on your laptop in the evening.

A pretty decent cafe for coffee and cakes. Selection isn’t aplenty but it’s sufficient. Come at around 11am to get to select your seats, it gets packed with students from noon onwards. We had the lemon tart which is tangy and appetizing (would like it more if the tart is a bit more crunchy). Cappuccino was smooth & fragrant (no coffee art though) but the milk toffee nut is SUPER sweet (we only drank a sip). Overall, good experience for a quiet place to hide from the sun.
Jacelyn P — Google review
A good place to stay all day and study. Tea is made with teabags, as is usual in cafes here. Good presentation, and a menu complete with breakfast and lunch options. Wi-Fi available. A cute cat wanders around the cafe. Outdoor and indoor seating. A/C equipped. Clean restroom.

Tat Mok Waterfall is a stunning one-level waterfall in Thailand, located within the area of Tat Mok National Park. With a height of around 300 meters, it boasts a high water stream that cascades from the Tat Mok cliff throughout the year. The trail leading to the waterfall winds through a lush green forest and is often enveloped in fine mist from the splash of the waterfall. Visitors are advised to tread carefully as the rocks can be slippery due to the high stream.
Beautiful waterfall, very easy to reach. The staff is incredibly kind. Unfortunately, we had a scooter accident on the way there, but we were professionally taken care of. Thank you so much for your help!
R R — Google review
This is another waterfall that is managed by The Department of Natural Parks, another place local foreigners aren't welcome, and are asked to pay more than their family and friends. I still do not understand this dual pricing system and so far nobody had been able to explain it. I can only hope that this treatment of residents will get banned by the government.
Johnny C — Google review
The ticket that you buy from here also allows you to enter mae-sa waterfall that near by. But if you only want to visit here, maybe you should ask the gate keeper first that can you park your vehicle outside the gate or not, because the distance between the gate and the waterfall is pretty close together so you have not to pay some extra money. The waterfall is good, you can walk up to the top of the waterfall and take a photos there, also good natural. Less people, more peaceful.
Nattanon C — Google review
Honestly it doesn't really worth the trip from Chiangmai. Very small area where you can barely sit down neither chill. Entrance fees 100 thb for foreigners and 20 thb for Thai people. Foreigner who live here still pay the tourist price. The other water falls in Chiangmai are so much better, less far, and free, so I don't really see the point of coming here.
Sylvain F — Google review
This is very nice waterfall. 150 meter walk to the waterfall. It is a low level of difficulty. But, has a few inclines and declines. You can swim here. I came here in early May before the rain begins. The water is not safe to swim in now. We Still went in the water waist high. I recommend this waterfall to avoid most tourists. Nice and quiet
Wendi G — Google review
It was the wrong time of the year (dry season) to be reviewing waterfalls around this part of the world but I'm sure it's worth five stars and more during the wet season. For us it was a nice drive to get here stopping for cool drinks along the way. It's a peaceful place and makes for a great spot to relax.
Gary S — Google review
A very quiet location, not the most spectacular waterfall in Chiang Mai but its location is amazing. In January the waterfall was nice but would be more impressive if closer to the rainy season. Only a few minutes trial to find a beautiful waterfall. There are only 2 accessible levels. Definitely worth to stop when passing. ❤️✨
Charat’s V — Google review
The thing I liked best about this waterfall is that I was alone here. Arrived at 8:30 on a Monday morning, before the gate was open. Helpful man ran down to open up for me. There is a charge of 100 thb for foreigners plus 30 thb for a car, but the entry fee is included if you have visited Mae Sa waterfall (save your ticket). The drive from the gate to the parking area is short but requires some skill to navigate if you're in a small sedan. It's an easy walk if you decide to park at the gate. The walk in to the waterfall is short and level, but can be muddy. In fact everything in here was muddy and slippery, making it highly unsuitable as a picnic spot. The waterfall itself is pretty dramatic though. Toilets could've been better, but would do in a pinch. No food or drinks for sale. The road up was tricky in a car. Just as twisty as the road to Mae Sa but much narrower. Some skill and some luck is required, as six inches off the white stripe is a ditch, and every curve is a blind curve and oncoming traffic doesn't always stay on their side of the road.

If you find yourself in Chiang Mai on a Sunday, make sure to visit the vibrant and bustling Sunday Night Market. The market comes alive around 5:00 pm, with stalls offering a wide variety of local foods, souvenirs, handicrafts, and cultural products. As you stroll from Tha Pae Gate to Chedi Luang Temple, take your time exploring the diverse offerings. You'll also find an array of street massages at very affordable prices.
Within old Chiang Mai city wall, this night market opens only on Sunday. We walked from east to west, covering about 1 km. Other than the Main Street, there are some side streets that led to temples, food bazaar, and small shops. We visited on 02 March 2025, along with many tourists. The mix of different languages chattering with stall holders was entertaining. Restaurants, street food stalls, and small shops selling accessories, paintings, wearing apparels lined up the street.

I think it’s a nice market to visit if you’re in Chiang Mai, it's open only on Sunday, but be prepared, it's extremely crowded. I arrived at 4:30 PM to be one of the first so it's great, BUT from 6 PM until midnight, it gets absolutely packed with people. So if you want to avoid the crowds as much as possible, come right at the start. There’s a ton of foods with all kinds of options, so definitely come hungry! You’ll also find lots of clothing at cheap prices, as well as paintings, unique bags, and souvenirs. Because of how crowded it gets, I’m giving it 3 stars.
Adi C — Google review
The Sunday Walking Street is busy, touristy, crowded, but still so much fun. It’s gigantic and could take a long time to see all of it, but even just visiting a small section is fun. Tons of great street food throughout. Bring cash, especially smaller bills if possible. By the way, don’t be afraid of street food in Thailand. I ate street food almost everyday for a month, and never had stomach issues. (Whereas I have had stomach issues from food in Mexico, Ecuador, etc…) Just use common sense, and enjoy. Also if you want to enjoy a big weekend night market with less crowds, check out the Saturday Walking Street, which is just south of the moat on Saturday nights.

Incredible experience at the over night meditation retreat. Special thank you to Phra KK and Johnny. I learned so much and will move through life more concentrated, grateful, and patient.

I took part in a one-day meditation retreat at Wat Suan Dok temple in Chiang Mai. TL;DR: An amazing experience full of theoretical knowledge and practical insight, led by the warm and welcoming Phra KK. The programme is free, donations are welcomed. Phra KK gave us a theoretical introduction into Buddhism and the practice of meditation, explaining even the most abstract concepts with utmost precision and clarity. His profound knowledge and experience as well as his engaging teaching style made for a highly interesting class. Buddhism - both generally and as an integral part of Thai culture - has become way more tangible for me. Next, Phra KK walked us through different forms of concentration meditation, such as breath, moving and walking meditation. For the latter, we even went into the beautiful ordination Hall at the back of the temple. Phra KK guided us carefully through our meditation journey. It was an intense experience, a challenge, but very educational and mysteriously calming. Towards 5 pm, we had the chance to talk to monks, asking them questions, and also answering questions they had for us. It was an informal, highly insightful chat, with the monks and us, the participants, sharing stories from their respective backgrounds. Phra KK was a warm, welcoming instructor, knowledgeable, experienced, some would say wise. The programme is free, voluntary donations are welcomed. This experience is one of a kind and not to miss when in Chiang Mai! Thank you, Phra KK and everyone who made this a special day!

I did the one day meditation retreat at Monk Chat in Chiang Mai. If you have a hard time signing up online just show up! It starts at 9:30 on Fridays. It was so informative and lovely practice. If you are new to mediation or Buddhism as a philosophy, curious, or seasoned, this is for you! I would love to come back to do multiple days. The teacher KK was wonderful! Love learning directly from the monks. I got a lot out of the day and it was so nice to step back from the hustle and bustle of traveling and sight seeing for this.

I did the 2-day meditation retreat with KK & Johnny and it has completely changed my life! It was an honor and a blessing to get to learn from KK about the basics of meditation & Buddhism. The meals were delicious too! If their website is down, just stop by the office on Tuesday’s at 13:30 to sign up. They are offered every Tuesday from 13:30 to Wednesday @ 15:30 for 1,000 bhat if they have 5 or more people. If you only have a few hours, I highly recommend their Monk Chats.
Mara M — Google review
It was really nice and interesting experience ☺️. It's an introduction to Buddhism but Phra KK shared also some Chiang Mai history with us. We did walking and sitting meditation and in the end we could chat to the monks and ask them about anything. It's run only on donations that go to a charity, for example, they pay tuition fees for young monks that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford their education. I highly recommend it! Thank you Phra KK🙏🏼

Monk KK is an excellent and attentive teacher. Very patient and didactic - this was important not only for those who came from the Western world but also for the group members who came from the Buddhist world but actually didn't know much. Monk Johnny (the assistant) is simply a charm of a person and interesting to talk to. For anyone interested in an introduction to meditation and Buddhism - a must visit

LOVED IT! Did the One day monk chat / meditation very well structured course. Insightful & felt like I could listen & practice everyday! Phra KK taught our class & learned a lot. Great sense of humor & teaching style. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Chiang mai. Show up & commit! Do this for “you”! Great for anyone who is interested & wants to see what meditation is about & to learn about the buddhist way of life teachings. Rarely do we get a well 1 day structured course like this one in the western countries. & its rare to be taught by a monk! Also dont forget to dress appropriately (no tanks & short shorts/skirts, be Respectful 😉) Thank you for the teachings & sharing the knowledge! 🙏🏼✨

If you're visiting Chiang Mai, make sure to experience the lively Street Food Sunday Market in the Old City. Taking place from lunch until dinner, this vibrant market spans about 2 km and features a diverse array of vendors selling art, crafts, and delectable street food. The market is known for its bustling atmosphere with numerous stalls offering an assortment of items such as clothing, bags, bracelets, stickers, diaries, shoes and various delectable dishes.
Sunday walking market, it’s great! Lots of vendors even a tarot card reading! I bought a beautiful elephant coffee cup and some clothes! There is food and all kinds of items to buy at good prices! Be sure to bargain!
Jane F — Google review
This is the biggest night market in Chiang Mai, only operate on Sunday evening from 5pm. Ithas 6 zones and occupied nearly half of the old city. Having said that, the products, the food and drink it sell are similar to other markets or night markets. However, since it is the biggest, it attracts the largest crowd. It is nevertheless worth visiting.
Kelvin L — Google review
Free market on a sunday- well worth a peruse as lots of gppd value bits. A lot of japanese influenced clothing and a wide and delicious variety of food and drinks. No alchohol or smoking permitted in the market
Charlotte A — Google review
Happening place along with tons of good foods. Prefer buying souvenirs from here with one-fifth the price of places like Bangkok or Phuket.
Rajib B — Google review
It's a huge market. Unlikely to cover all of it. Lots of food options as well!
Ahalya P — Google review
This is hands down one of my most favorite markets in Thailand. It’s so lively and full of delicious food and shopping. When in Chiang Mai, 100/10 recommend, and pro tip: always bargain respectfully but def bargain:).
Psian A — Google review
It was bigger than I anticipated. So many nooks and crannies to discover food. Put on your walking shoes and elastic pants if you plan on eating. Oh and a backpack for when you wanna shop! 🤣

Rock climbing gym
No Gravity Co., Ltd. is a fantastic indoor climbing gym located in northern Thailand, specifically Chiang Mai. Since its opening in April 2013, it has become a go-to destination for both novice and experienced climbers alike, boasting over 500 square meters of climbing surfaces. This unique facility features tall walls suitable for lead and top rope climbing, making it the only one of its kind in the area.
Pretty cool place, the people were really nice and we were able to use our own equipment. Since some of the ropes were too big for my ATC they just gave me a tube to use for free! Some of the ropes were quite stiff and might need a wash... We will come back!!! We want there on a hot day but it was nice and cool since the building is high and open so wind can blow through.
Jokel — Google review
So if your used to gym climbing where everything is taken care for you, this is not your gym. Let me explain. There's no pad, there no rope going around an anchor twice, to get you a mechanical advantage when climbing. No pads on the floor. The routes aren't set to make you feel better about your climbing ability. This is a true climbers gym. The routes are set hard and awkward just like it is outside. The top ropes are using direct system. Meaning you feel the weight of the other climber. Which means if you climb here your going to get real skills that directly translate to outside climbing. And will make you a better, safer and stronger climber. Day pass is 300 bhat, and they have top topping and lead climbing as well as bouldering area, which has a pad.
Topher J — Google review
New great experience in Chiang mai. Wall climbing. Kids and adults allowed to use. Its not easy to climb if you have no experience, but its so attractive to learn! We like it!!! Will visit again!
Alia A — Google review
Family feel, routes for all levels. Day pass 280 baht. 100 baht for personal belayer/instructor. Bouldering on the second floor.
George B — Google review
This is the only gym in Chiang Mai that has tall walls for lead and tope rope. The holds, walls and ropes are old, but all within safety limits. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. The routes are very hard for their grades, but if you're a little bit experienced climber, you can have a lot of fun here. The routes are challenging with interesting and uncommon moves, I had a great time. There is a bouldering area but it's quite small, just make your own routes. Gear that's for rent is good. Gym is not awesome for American or European standards, but considering what they have to work with here, it's pretty good!
Geert — Google review
Although the building itself isn't very large there is plenty of wall space. There is a good number of climbs for top roping and lead climbing, including a slab, which seems to be rare in many walls in Thailand and even Asia in my experience. The owner spoke very good English and was happy to help. He did give a warning that he tries to set the routes like outdoor routes so they can seem harder than other walls. The bouldering section could be improved as it is small and aimed at strong climbers, with even the lower level grades being far too difficult for beginners. Overall it is a good wall and if I come back to Chiang Mai I'll certainly come back.
Simon B — Google review
Had a fantastic time at No Gravity. We paid 500 baht each including shoes, powder and belaying as I'm a beginner. My instructor was so charismatic and charming, gave helpful tips and provided motivation too! The place is inside a large warehouse with no air con, so it gets HOT! You climb 2-3 walls and you have to take a rest and cool down. I don't know what this place is like to others but none the less, I really enjoyed the experienced and had fun. There are walls, a small bouldering section and a rope to climb.

Great quality for money, nice staff and decent top roping for a rather sparse environment. All around a good experience.

Ice skating club
Sub Zero Ice Skating Club, also known as Chiangmai Ice Arena, is the only ice skating rink in Chiang Mai. It offers rental equipment for all ages, including hockey-style skates and helmets. The ice quality has been reported as slightly bumpy at times, but generally okay. Some visitors have noted that the rental skates may not be in the best condition. However, there are dedicated hockey sessions available at 8pm on certain days.
2018: Ice a little bumpy at times, need to run the zamboni machine to smooth it out more often. Apart from that the place is fairly empty so lots of space to skate. Love the cool inside, a change from the heat outside. It's the only place to ice skate in Chiang Mai, the kids like to come here every few weeks for a skate. 2023: back at it again... nothing much changed in 5 years, kids still had fun, not busy at all, session runs for abut 1.5 hours long.
Maxim R — Google review
Taught my son the basics of ice skating here! Staff was very friendly and welcoming. They provide all the helmets, pads, and skates as well as a penguin to keep your little person upright. We went around noon and were only joined by four other people on the ice.
Jim B — Google review
There is only one ice skating ring in Chiangmai. And there are not many people usually. They change name from Sub Zero to Chiangmai Ice Arena, changed some stuff but equipment and interior didn’t change. We like to spend weekends with family there. Hope Ice Arena will improve their management and more people start to visit this place.
Almira K — Google review
The ice is okay, I didn't see puddles like some of the other reviews mentioned, but there is a slighy gap between the end of the ice and the boards. For the only ice rink in Chiang Mai it's not too bad. The rental skates are pretty bad, some of them aren't sharp and some are cross-ground. For hockey players, they do have sessions at 8pm, not sure which days. Overall pretty good experience and the staff are nice. The rink is located on the 3rd floor of the mall.
Vahe S — Google review
The rink at Central Festival shopping mall has changed management last month, and it currently holds a policy which states that if one would like to use it's facilities for figure skating, one must sign a one year contract that costs 180000 baht. I find it disappointing that the management team has made such a decision as not only does it make the rink seem elitist, it essentially prevents the average Thai family from allowing their children who might develop an interest in the sport to ever having a chance to persue the sport. This is the only ice rink in Chiang Mai, and this act of monopoly is frankly quite disgusting. Furthermore, to charge people an upfront fee of $6000 at this rink is laughable as the facilities are all sub-par in quality at best. This rink hasn't the slightest idea about ice maintenance, as most of the time the rink is more like a giant puddle. Their Zamboni machine looks ancient, and it actually does virtually nothing to resurface the ice. Finally, the staff they hire are completely oblivious to anything to do with ice skating-- rental skates are horribly maintained, nobody knows a thing about sharpening skates, there are no safety staff on the ice, ever. Highly not recommend.
Dimitry C — Google review
If ice skating is what you want to do in the tropical north of Thailand this is your place. Small and a lot of novice on the ice just out for the day just for the experience. Talks of more rinks to open in the city of ChiangMai but this is the only one in 2017.
Philip C — Google review
So fun! Go on Friday at 6:00pm for the "free skate," otherwise there might be hockey practice or something. 100 baht gets you three hours of skating plus skate rental.
Matt H — Google review
The ice here is very poorly maintained and from what we were told you cannot use your own skates, but it was still fun and we were able to skate for like 3 hours for 250 baht

Nestled in the scenic Mae Rim district of Chiang Mai, Elephant POOPOOPAPER Park is a delightful eco-conscious destination that offers a unique twist on recycling. This charming park invites visitors to explore the fascinating process of transforming elephant dung into various paper products, including journals and stationery. Perfect for families, it features interactive exhibits where you can learn about sustainability while crafting your own POOPOOPAPER souvenirs.
A very pleasant place to visit with children. You can learn how paper is made from fiber — in this case, fiber sourced from animal droppings. Everything is clean and properly washed, and it highlights an alternative, eco-friendly raw material. The guides are great at explaining the process, and at the end, there’s a chance to take part in hands-on activities using the handmade paper. The kids absolutely loved that part!
Benjamin B — Google review
A visit to the Elephant POOPOOPAPER Park in Chiang Mai is definitely worthwhile, especially for anyone who loves elephants. (There’s NO REAL 🐘) The staff explain the entire papermaking process in great detail. It’s fascinating to see how they turn elephant dung into paper! The park also offers a hands-on activity where you can create your own craft, which is a big hit for families with kids. It's a fun and educational experience for all ages. And be warned: the gift shop at the end is amazing! There are so many unique souvenirs that you'll definitely want to buy. 🐘🐘🐘
Ariel L — Google review
What a funny and unique tour. They have a very cool setup and hands on tour. Sweet seeing the process from elephant poop to paper. You get to actually make a sheet of paper yourself too! Was about 45min and well worth it. (Especially in the area that’s it’s at there are several things to do to make a day of it). Recommend looking at tour times online and can walk up or buy in advance.
Ben T — Google review
We had some time whilst travelling from Chiang Dao to Chiang Mai, and we've heard of this social enterprise before so we thought to drop by. It is overpriced - 150 thb gets you a small elephant-shaped paper, a quick simplified explanation of the poop-to-paper process by an uninterested guide, and a very brief hands-on experience (but you can't take the paper home). I thought perhaps it's meant for children, but there were 2 kids in our tour and they didnt seem particularly engaged.
YJ K — Google review
Had much fun!! The tour guide was able to speak in English well. I went a little before 4, which was their last English tour of the day. See pic for their current tour times. I walked in with no issues. No other visitors were in my group, so I had a one-on-one session. I was able to ask questions. The making of the paper was included in the 150thb tour fee. I had fun!
Beatrice W — Google review
This place is pretty far out, so if you're not also planning to visit other nearby attractions, I honestly feel it can be skipped. There are guided tours at fixed times, every 40 minute intervals and costs 150baht per pax. The guide was quite humorous, and thankfully for that because otherwise the tour wasn't much. Elephant poopoo paper park is a misnomer. It's just a marketing point because it's quite simply just a place selling generic recycled paper products. Basically, the park shows you what materials are used for making recycled paper, how it's done, and you get a little hands on (spread the paper mush over a screen). The tour concludes at their DIY area where you choose which items you wish to buy (additional costs depending on what items you select) and decorate. There is also a painting area, so i suppose you could just pay for these diy items without the tour. But again, I personally wouldn't travel just for this. They do sell a lot of their recycled paper products. If you just want to buy souvenirs without the tour, I did notice that they had a booth at One Ninman Do spam lots of Mosquito repellant if you do visit
Tricia T — Google review
Fun place to learn about how poo poo paper is made. It's fascinating for kids to think that waste of an animal can be converted into useful materials. There are also hands-on activities for the kids, and adults, to do. It's a great pit stop after a full day of hiking or physical activities.
Daniel L — Google review
What a wonderful venture. We were treated to an interesting tour which was engaging for adults and children alike. The experience is very hands on and everyone enjoyed making some paper as well as creating a craft with the provided materials (note there is a small fee for this). The shop is also packed with lovely gifts and souvenirs made from the elephant poo products. Highly recommend this as an educational and fun experience.
