Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The Aquarium of Genoa is a remarkable destination located in the historic Porto Antico, an area that has undergone significant transformation over the centuries. Once a bustling hub for maritime activities, this waterfront locale was revitalized during the 1992 Expo through the visionary work of architect Renzo Piano. The aquarium showcases an impressive array of marine and freshwater species within its thoughtfully designed aquatic ecosystem display tanks, making it a must-visit attraction for nature enthusiasts and families alike.
Visiting the Aquarium of Genoa was a truly unforgettable experience. We were deeply impressed by the incredible variety of marine species on display—from colorful tropical fish and majestic sharks to playful dolphins and graceful jellyfish. Each exhibit was beautifully curated, allowing us to admire the unique beauty of every creature up close. The interior spaces were thoughtfully designed and remarkably immersive, making us feel as though we were walking through an underwater world. Everything was clean, well-organized, and visually stunning. The attention to detail in both the habitats and the educational displays added so much value to the visit. Overall, the Acquario di Genova exceeded our expectations. It's not just a place for children or marine enthusiasts—it's a breathtaking experience for anyone who appreciates nature's beauty. Highly recommended!

The places does impress the wanderers due to its vastness and abundance of various exotic expostinions. There are many interesting acquariums including both commonly known sea critters as well as even more interesting unpopular ones. If it's not enough for you, don't worry! There are a handful of beautifully recreated biomes containing the richness of coral reefs, raw desert enviroments full with beautifull animals as well as huge pool with eager to play dolphins within.
Antoni S — Google review
I love visiting aquariums. My favorite places among the aquariums I've visited so far are L’Oceanogràfic Valencia, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and Moskvarium. This aquarium Genoa is quite small but it's easy to visit location for tourists and jellyfish tanks were lovely. I visited there during the winter off-season and there was no line so I am not sure if it was necessary to buy the on-line entrance ticket in advance.
Adam — Google review
This city is unique, special, and legendary. Although there are a lot of immigrants who create problems of cleanliness and also other kind. This aquarium is very large and interesting. It took about 2 hours to fully explord it. There are many species of marine animals here. It is always interesting to look at them and at the same time read information about them. And a large hall with a huge panoramic glass wall, through which you can see dolphins swimming underwater, was the realization of a child's dream. Sitting there, listening to the soothing music and looking at this magnificence was incomparable. Many people believe that the price of entering an aquarium is high. Maybe that's true.
Kakha K — Google review
We LOVED IT, this aquarium is huge and has some sea life I haven’t seen in US. We love aquariums, you can’t go wrong. Our daughter loves the jellyfish and some cool snakes in there Husband said the manatees were amazing and large variety of sea life and frogs. When you start you are on the bottom level and you go through the whole bottom level… then you go upstairs and see everything upstairs but also have a view of sharks and other animals you saw downstairs and upstairs is best for pictures of the dolphins and sharks - for me. There is also an area you can touch some sea life.
Jenny I — Google review
Really enjoyed the aquarium! It is quite busy as one wood expect but it flows pretty well out and back. Lots of different species of marine life to see from all over the world. Buy tickets in advance to avoid lining up twice and beware all the people outside trying to sell/force stuff into your hands.
Jeffrey T — Google review
Great place to visit for all ages. It’s a beautiful aquarium that has everything you would expect. The heating is terrible and it is hot if you go in the summer. The animals are very active and seem to be taken care of well. If in the area, it is worth your time to visit.
Justin Y — Google review
Thoughtfully curated exhibits and environments such as Amazon, Lake Malawi, corals in addition to cetaceans, penguins, seals, sharks. Although the tanks and holding areas are quite large, it is sad to see the mammals and large fish confined. Dark tunnels add to the anticipation. Children will enjoy the touch tank area. Cafe, gift shops. Commentaries in Italian and English.

Fountain
Piazza De Ferrari is a bustling city square in Genoa, known for its iconic 1930s bronze fountain and as the hub of important cultural institutions. The area is a shopper's paradise, with main streets like via Roma and nearby via XX Settembre and XXV Aprile offering high-end stores such as Gucci and Ferragamo, as well as multi-brand boutiques like Vinicio Boutique.
Beautiful, here you can imagine how rich Genoa had been as a former port town.
Rainer B — Google review
My wife uses a wheelchair to get around and it was a steep climb to get to the piazza, but well worth it. With the kind assistance of two gentlemen who volunteered out of nowhere, we were able to negotiate the last uphill 100 meters. When we reached the top the plaza opened up gloriously. It was simply beautiful. The surrounding classical buildings frame the piazza de Ferrari perfectly. It’s a sight to behold. We visited a pizzeria a few meters (slightly downhill, thank you), and made it a topper to a lovely afternoon. It’s worth the effort and there are countless public transport options if walking up a steep grade is not your thing.
Mark A — Google review
Nice hangout place for both locals and tourists. Live musicians play here in the evening hours. Yes, good time to go there is around 7 PM.

This is the heart of genoa at the top of via XX settembre, looking at the fountain is very relaxing

Enchanting outdoor plaza not to be missed! Lots of shops, cafes, and cobblestone streets to explore. Don’t forget to take in the beautifully adorned Cattedrale di San Lorenzo too.
Melissa J — Google review
It's a great starting point to explore Genoa. There are nice parks nearby. Walk towards the port, get lost in the narrow streets, and see some incredible buildings. And don't forget to reward yourself with a delicious ice cream.
Asım S — Google review
Beautiful architecture, nice place to visit, not on Sunday because everything is closed!!
August S — Google review
Piazza De Ferrari is truly the heart and soul of Genoa. Surrounded by stunning historic buildings and beautiful architecture, this square offers the perfect blend of old-world charm and urban energy. The central fountain is an iconic photo spot and gives the whole square a lively, elegant atmosphere, especially when lit up at night. Whether you’re a tourist exploring the city or a local passing through, there’s always something to admire here — from the Teatro Carlo Felice to the impressive facades of the Palazzo Ducale and the old stock exchange building. It’s also a great starting point to explore the historic center, Via Garibaldi, or the nearby shops and cafés. It’s clean, spacious, and full of life, with musicians, street performers, and people relaxing by the fountain. We visited several times during our trip, and each time felt like a postcard moment. Highly recommend stopping by, even if just for a walk or to soak in the atmosphere — it’s Genoa at its best.

This was a fantastic experience for my family and I. It had just started raining when we arrived, so we were glad of the shelter. The museum has an amazing amount of historical significant pieces, and some really exotic machinery to view. Well worth a visit

Tons of interesting stuff, from ships, submarines all the way to immigration, it's great even if you are just a little bit interested in maritime transport.

Nice spot to explore and learn about naval history. Gallery has to-scale ships and also many interactive spaces. You can also go inside a decommissioned submarine. There is a nice view of the Genova area at the top of the gallery.
Andrew L — Google review
The museum is quite big. It consist of 4 levels with each floor has a different stor in which youre directed to have a tour route to enjoy all the story it host some colombus history, the genovese role, italian immigration around the world, and a replica how the ship looked like in the past. If youre scared of narrow space, id suggest to skip the submarine experience. Note: im a bit confused how to find the exit door at the end of the route.

Bigo is a sculptural lift in Genoa, inspired by cranes and offering short rides with stunning panoramic views of the city and harbor. Located in the Porto Antico area, it provides a 360-degree view of the entire Port of Genoa as it gently takes passengers up to 40 meters high. Renzo Piano, known for redeveloping the Porto Antico area, designed Bigo as part of this project.
The only open restaurant in Genova port at 11PM, Thanks to them, I eated a pizza and drank a beer last night in a wonderful atmosphere.
Sandic I — Google review
A great experience and some spectacular views all long the way up and especially when you are all the way up. It’s a quick elevator ride and you get 360 degrees, unobstructed views of the city and port. You can spot the historical and iconic structures of the city and they are displayed inside the elevator as to what direction to look for to spot each of those. You could spend about an hour for the whole ride but definitely worth the experience, especially on a nice sunny day.

Very nice food in front of the port. The staff was very friendly, fast and helpful. Especially the girl at the cashier, despite her busy schedule, served me with a smile and was happy to help me with the issue I had with renting a parking space in Florence. I highly recommend this place

Review for the lift: highly recommend Even if you are not a fan of heights, the ride up and down is so gentle you really don't even notice it. The view from the top is spectacular
K P — Google review
Very beautiful spot with a view of city and the harbour with all the ships and cruises. Really interesting to see the design and history of the port. It's a very old port and the engineering and architecture in building this port is really amazing! Really nice to visit this place when you explore Genova.
MIHIR S — Google review
Great experience by the near of Porto antico. You can observe all the city from 40 meters above. The locked cabin rotates 360 degrees and it allows you to see all around the old city and port. It totally coats the price.

7 minutes of Nice view. I don’t want to imagine in summer time when the weather outside is hot..no air conditioning available inside!!! And today was hot, we had a free sauna while enjoying the view. I bought the ticket online as a combo with the acquarium and the biodiversity Maybe I was lucky..no waiting line, but when get busy no priority line. If there’s a line you need to wait for your turn.

The Royal Palace Museum is a stunning testament to opulence and history, showcasing exquisite stuccowork and captivating frescos in its grand halls, including the hall of mirrors and the majestic ballroom. This remarkable house-museum invites visitors to delve into the life of Captain Enrico Alberto D'Albertis, who bequeathed this treasure to Genoa in 1932.
Absolutely worth it. Never seen such amazing sculptures and the design is extraordinarily beautiful. The paintings are amazing as is the tapestry. The sculpture room stuck with me though, and it was by far one of the most beautiful rooms I ever saw such a beautiful room with all the white and gold designs. Go there if you're in Genova, and I promise you won't regret it. Go and admire the art and history of the pallatzo
Matei G — Google review
One of the most beautiful palaces in this part of Italy, but the experience is ruined by a) the price being too high for b) how little they are taking care of the place. Nothing is climate-controlled and thus all of the art, tapestries, and even beautiful frescoes are slowly degrading. As I said, for the price... one would think they would be investing the profits back into keeping the place up. Definitely worth a visit if you have nothing else to do and $30 to spend.
Revan K — Google review
Beautiful ornate historical palace in the centre of Genoa, previous palace of the Savoy regency and others. Known for its embellished rooms and furniture, as well as numerous frescos and painted ceilings. Ticket price also includes the Spinolla Gallery. Worth a visit if in Genoa.
Matt W — Google review
“Rude security guard damages palace reputation & visitor experience” I am writing this comment to express my deep disappointment regarding a recent encounter with a female security staff member at the Palazzo Reale di Genova. While appreciating the stunning beauty and historical significance of the Palace, my visit was severely marred by the unnecessarily rude and confrontational manner of one of your guards. The staff member in question was a middle-aged woman with short brown hair and black-rimmed glasses. I was merely taking a few personal photos/selfies to commemorate my visit—a standard, harmless activity for any tourist. This guard approached me and aggressively questioned my actions, asking: "Why do you need to take so many photos of yourself?" She then escalated the situation by bringing up unrelated and unsettling stories about previous visitors being prosecuted for photography inside the palace. I have traveled extensively and visited dozens of palaces and historical sites across over different European countries, including renowned venues like the Palace of Versailles. This is the first time in all my travels that I have encountered such an unwarranted and aggressive reaction from staff regarding simple, non-intrusive personal photography. This behavior is completely unacceptable and creates a hostile environment for paying guests. Tourists visit historical sites to appreciate them, and taking a few photos is a fundamental part of the modern museum experience. It is truly no wonder that the palace seemed relatively empty of visitors during my time there. If this is the standard of visitor interaction, it actively discourages people from entering and enjoying this magnificent national treasure. I urge the management of the Palazzo Reale to immediately address the customer service standards of its security personnel, particularly the guard in question, to ensure all guests are treated with the respect and courtesy they deserve.
Himari — Google review
Large palace of which the construction began in the 17th century by clever financier Stefano Balbi. When the Durazzo family bought the palace around 1678 they enlarged and beautified it. Early 18th century large stairwells and a terrace was added making it one of the biggest buildings in Genoa. In 1824 it became the Royal Residence for King Vittorrio Emanuelle I who put a royal stamp on the building. The 2nd floor with impressive decorated rooms is open to visitors. You can see the original frescoes, stuccoes, paintings, sculptures, furniture and ornaments that belonged to the noble and royal families who lived in the palace. At the back is a terrace from which you can see the harbour.
Seimen B — Google review
Palazzo Reale is a stunning slice of Genoa’s royal history, tucked away on Via Balbi. Its lavish halls, mirrored salons, and frescoed ceilings transport you to the opulence of 17th-century aristocracy. The Hall of Mirrors is breathtaking, rivaling even Versailles in elegance, while the terrace offers sweeping views of the port. With masterpieces by Van Dyck and Tintoretto, and rooms rich in original décor, the palace feels both grand and intimate. Less crowded than other landmarks, it’s perfect for a quiet, reflective visit. A must-see for lovers of history, art, and architecture. Don’t miss it.
Giulia B — Google review

Nestled in the heart of Genoa, Santa Maria di Castello is a stunning Romanesque church that serves as a testament to the city's rich history. Beautiful architecture and history. Especially as a tourist. I asked if she could show me around and she gave me a full tour for free. Super nice and understanding. She didn't't speak any english but it was still so fascinating, it felt like i understood everything and was treated like a normal person, rather than a tourist. 100% recommend

Beautiful church with lots of history, the lovely lady gave us a tour describing the interesting events that included the church and the city of Genoa. Plus free if you just want a quick pass by.
Bryan A — Google review
A church in the town center of Genoa. It’s not so special but the details are interesting. When I visited there, there were many local people were praying. It’s a quiet place. Parking nearby is extremely difficult and the church itself in standing on a slope so it’s difficult to arrive for old people.
Adam — Google review
This hidden Romanesque church complex is well worth a visit, especially for the guided tour offered by volunteers, which you will probably receive PRIVATELY due to the small number of visitors. It was formerly administered by the Dominicans. There are cloisters and numerous pieces of intact medieval art, including a beautiful Annunciation fresco from 1451, which the Grimaldi family had a key role in sponsoring.

The Chiesa di Santa Maria di Castello is a beautiful church. The building is in Roman style and with modestly decorated architectural features, including fabulous faience work on the walls. The church has some wonderful medieval fresco’s and paintings, an impressive marble altar and a beautiful altar with the Annunciation of Mary. You can visit most parts freely and there are volunteers to answer your questions.

This this church is tucked away and hidden amongst residential buildings just up from the old port. It has a very unassuming outside. However once you step inside you will be blown away by the architecture and the numerous paintings. Every alcove has numerous paintings sculptures from famous painters and sculptors. It has one of the workers of the church inside the building that is happy to tell you a little of the history. Well worth a trip to see.

An amazing church which has an amazing amount of things to see. Ask the volunteers inside to show you around. It might be they don't speak English, but it's worth to see even without the explanation.

Even though the façade might make it look not interesting, it is one of the most beautiful churches of Genova. It contains several frescos from the 15th and 16th century and volunteers can tell the history of the church and guide you through other interesting parts of it, including three beautiful cloisters with marvellous decorations.

The Museum of Natural History “Giacomo Doria” was established in 1867 and boasts an extensive collection of taxidermy birds, mammals, rocks, and fossils. It is a must-visit attraction in the area, offering a glimpse into the region's rich natural history.
One of the places in Genoa that you must visit. (The Snake exhibition is temporary, but the other parts of the exhibition are permanent.)
Sepehr M — Google review
Insightful and interesting—especially if you download the app. The place relies on taxidermy for stuff which can be both frighteningly real and also a little ridiculous when it comes to some of the older pieces. Take your self-guided journey on a cool day, as the space isn’t air-conditioned. Look out for the last wolf of Italy.

Absolutely amazing natural history museum. It's extremely extensive to the point of exhaustion. It exhibits thousands of species and fossils. It consists of 3 parts. And the ticket prices are absolutely reasonable. Very highly recommended. (At the time of this review there was a snake exhibition as well - temporary feature)
G K — Google review
Review of the Snake Exhibition at the Natural History Museum On a rainy day in Genoa, I decided to visit the Natural History Museum, as I’ve always been a fan of such institutions. Unfortunately, my experience with the temporary snake exhibition left me somewhat disappointed. The snakes were kept in terrariums that appeared far too small for their size. Some of the larger species couldn’t even fully stretch out, which I found particularly concerning. Additionally, some species that, according to the provided information, spend a lot of time in or near water had water basins that were clearly too small for them to use comfortably. The terrariums offered very limited opportunities for the snakes to hide or seek shelter. Most enclosures contained only some wood on the ground and artificial plants, which didn’t seem sufficient to replicate their natural habitats. While I appreciate the effort to display these fascinating creatures, I felt that their welfare was not given the priority it deserved. For anyone concerned with animal well-being, this section of the museum was difficult to appreciate. As for the rest of the museum, I found it to be quite extensive, with a large number of exhibits covering a wide range of subjects. Some displays were particularly interesting and well-presented. While I felt there was a lack of interactivity and, for my taste, not enough detailed descriptions, the majority of the museum was very good. This is why I’m giving 3 stars, as my concerns mainly relate to the temporary snake exhibition, which only represents a small part of the overall experience. I hope that the museum considers improving the living conditions of the animals and offering a more enriching experience for visitors in the future.

Housed in a building on the Spinola Bridge, it also includes The Aquarium, one of Europe's largest sea parks with over 59 tanks showcasing more than 500 sea species.
In Genova as a tourist with my son and came across the fun place. My son had a blast and it helped the day go by as he didn't want to leave. Also a great learning oppurtunity for adults as well. Very interesting and educational facts printed next to every learning display. Great place.

My kids had an absolute blast at the city of children! This place is a true sensory playground where learning and fun collide. The interactive exhibits were both engaging and educational, sparking their curiosity and imagination. From the mesmerizing visual displays to the enchanting soundscapes, every corner was a new adventure. I loved how they seamlessly blended physical and digital elements to create a truly immersive experience. If you're looking for a place that will stimulate your child's senses and leave them wanting more, I highly recommend this place! It's a must-visit for families seeking a unique and enriching experience.

A bit disappointed as it is far smaller than we expected when comparing to the ticket price. Some items were broken. It is good if you just have nothing to do else I would recommend to do something else.
Nopphol T — Google review
My biggest issue was I accidentally purchased the tickets for Tuesday instead of Monday and they made a HUGE deal out of whether or not they would honor my tickets. Worse, they were not trying to communicate in English for us, so it made the process take unnecessarily longer. Oh and they don't have Wi-Fi. Once we finally got in, the museum was nice, but more suited for kids at least 4 years old.

Expensive ticket and just few rooms of entertainment other than that is meeting room plus the playground limited age can play from 8to 12 year old cannot enter
Fuoco 1 — Google review
Very disappointing experience. Several experiences are broken. The space is small amd my kids of 4 and 7 had a hard time to be entertained for more than 30 minutes. The area for parents to sit is baking hot. 12 euro per person is ridiculous for the state the place is in. 5 euro would seem fair. And parents shouldn’t have to pay

10/10 best children’s museum we’ve been to yet, and we are world travelers! My 3 year old loved it and so much was translated into English to we could explain each of the rooms with interactive “senses”

Mentelocale Bar Bistrot is a charming spot located in the courtyard of Palazzo Rosso, offering an excellent aperitif experience in Genoa. It's a great place to unwind and chat with friends while enjoying L'aperativi and an all-you-can-eat buffet at a reasonable price. The buffet offers various options suitable for vegetarians, and the staff are helpful and friendly.
For me everything was just what I wanted. Delicious Taglietelle. They left the Parmesan cheese on the table which is important for me. Different breads brought out to accompany my meal and olive oil and balsamic vinegar as standard. I asked for a tailored drink which they provided and I tried pigeon Italian and they tried pigeon English. Lovely atmosphere too. I spent more than usual because o had more than one alcoholic drink.

For a first timer I had a good time. Most of it is thanks to the company, but the establishment held its part. Nice place, clean and proper, marketability wise the good idea of providing a wholesale price for drink and buffet. Can't say it was remarkable or cheap, in fact plenty of places in the area that will give more appetizer food (tapas/fingerfood) for your drink at a better bargain price, but I'd go there again. Staff was nice, which is always a plus, and not overbearing which is fundamental to someone like your truly.

Nice/healthy food, amazing sharp-eyed staff and superb location in the inner court of Palazzo Ducale. We go there for lunch every day and we have always been welcomed in the warmest way. Daily changes to the menu (with a wide range of proposals) over a solid base of flagship dishes such as trofie or pinsa.

Very good option of L'aperativi, All you can eat buffet and drink, for a very reasonable price. I was able to look at the buffet before deciding to eat here as I am vegetarian and the chef talked me through everything on offer. There were several dishes that were suitable for me and they were all very good. The price varies depending on your choice of drinks. €10 - €12. Good location in the Doge palace. Very good value for Genoa and Italy generally. A cocktail or a beer or a glass of wine plus an unlimited buffet for 11 - 12 euro! The buffet had just enough variety for my vegetarian partner and the quality was perfectly good. The Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno, established in the mid-19th century, is a breathtaking burial ground that doubles as an open-air museum. Spanning over 330,000 square meters, it features intricate tombs crafted by renowned sculptors like Rubino and Bistolfi. This remarkable site showcases a blend of architectural styles including Neoclassical, Gothic, and Art Nouveau.
This is a cemetery on an epic scale. It can be viewed as two sections; the formal quadrangle with vast two storey galleries lined with statuary and cremation urn compartments, and the informal layout which, much like Genova itself, is carved out of the hillside. The Genoese take death seriously. Sumptuous monuments tell a story with life size family members grieving over the deceased surrounded by angels to help them on the journey to the afterlife. Others like to compare themselves to gods posing majestically. The quality and indeed the quantity of statuary is remarkable. On the hillside is a village of the dead with named roads, monuments as big as churches, some that look like small houses, and again full of statuary. The tree-lined roads go on forever. And steps lead off these to off-road terraces cut in to the slope, each an individual avenue of graves. There is a lot of steps. Some have subsided and restoration is never ending. No space is left empty. Urn compartments are stacked 5m high and step ladders are provided for changing flowers in the vases and batteries in the lanterns. Even the roofs of the galleries are lined with cremation urn compartments. I always say if you want to understand the history of a place look at its architecture. In the case of Genova, you should also look at this cemetery.

A wonderful place to see magnificent high quality sculptures. There is an information office with very kind local staff. Get a free map and the free introduction book (also in English) there. Be careful of the old guy who sells those materials in the cemetery. Those material are free. The local bus n. 34 goes to this cemetery and it’s the final stop. I also recommend to check the website before go there as sometimes it’s closed for strong winds or some maintenances.

Spectacular! One of the most incredible cemeteries/ "art museums of sculptures" that you will ever see. If you love history and amazing sculptures, then put this place on your "to go visit" list. I could not believe how beautiful and intricately perfect the statues are. So incredibly made that you would swear they come to life after hours. This place is enormous so make sure you leave at least a half a day in your schedule to see it, maybe even longer. It's unfathomable that the statues are not just decoration, but also tombs and there are so many of them! Fantastic photo opportunities are everywhere in this place. I did not take the guided tour but it's on my list to do in the future. I've heard good things about it. The cemetery is free to enter. For the guided tour, you have to pay a small fee. Do not miss this!

Porta Soprana is a grand gate with two impressive circular towers that served as an entrance to the city and were part of the 12th-century defensive walls in Genoa. It has been restored in the 19th and 20th centuries and is also known as St. Andrea Towers due to its proximity to an ancient convent. Visitors can purchase a combined ticket for access to both the towers and the House of Columbus, which is located nearby.
The Porta Soprana, one of Genoa’s most iconic landmarks, is a stunning reminder of the city’s medieval heritage. Built in the 12th century as part of Genoa’s defensive walls, this beautifully preserved gate stands as a testament to the city’s historical importance as a maritime power. The twin towers flanking the archway are imposing yet elegant, offering visitors a glimpse into the architectural ingenuity of the Middle Ages. Walking through the gate feels like stepping back in time, especially when combined with the surrounding cobblestone streets and nearby historical sites.

Porta Soprana, also known as Porta Sant'Andrea, is one of the symbols of the city of Genoa. Restored at the beginning of the 20th century, was one of the entrances to the old city, built in 1115 on the previous gate, while building new walls to protect Genoa . It is located very close to the home of Christopher Columbus and the remains of the Monastery of Sant'Andrea. Today, the tower is an unofficial separation between old and new Genoa.

Definitely one of the best preserved and famous gates that remains from the ancient walls of Genova. Built on top of the Andrew hill, it comprise of the huge gate and the two towers next to it, who were used as guard towers. After some recent renovation it looks very appealing to the tourists, who can also enjoy it from one of the many coffee shops and restaurants around it. Historical figure ensembles as tall gate with two towers as a remaining part of the accient building. The Porta Soprana is the symbol of the city and the icon of a long lasting history. The condition of the gate is keeping well with no sign of harm from human beings. You can recognize the gate at a far distance immediately with it height and unique structure. The gate brings the memories and impressions of a long gone past simply breathtaking that has been standing for centuries to represent the Mediterranean (for nearly 1000 years and still being well). Even it is a building but it brings the natural feelings by its strange blended with nature. Located in the Center of town, it will catch your eyes immediately when you see it. Up from the gate you can enjoy the whole view of the little and lovely city Genoa. Definitely a must visit place on your trip to Genoa and being one of the most beautiful places of the journey. Around the gate, there are plenty more of other tourist attractions such as Colombo house, casa di Cristoforo that you can reach easily as well as many shop for souvenirs and restaurants for enjoying the local cusines.

Submarine Nazario Sauro offers an adventurous experience for both kids and adults. Visitors can don hard hats and explore the interior of a real Italian diesel engine submarine, which has been transformed into a museum since May 2010. The visit provides insight into the challenging daily life of submariners, allowing guests to appreciate their sacrifices and bravery. However, claustrophobic individuals should be cautious as the living space is quite small.
Visiting the Submarine Nazario Sauro at the Galata Museo del Mare in Genoa is an unforgettable experience! As Italy’s first submarine open to the public, it offers a unique glimpse into life underwater. The tour allows you to step inside the cramped quarters and marvel at the intricate machinery, giving you a deep appreciation for the sailors who lived and worked in such confined spaces. The audio guide (available in multiple languages) provides fascinating insights into the submarine’s history, its missions, and the challenges of underwater navigation. The experience is immersive, from the periscope to the tiny sleeping bunks, and it’s a must-see for history buffs, engineering enthusiasts, or families looking for an educational adventure. Be mindful of the narrow passages and steep stairs—it might not be suitable for very young children or those with mobility challenges.

Biosfera, located in the Old Port of Genoa, is a distinctive bubble-shaped building designed by architect Renzo Piano. Managed by Costa Edutainment, it showcases over 150 species of tropical plants and a variety of animals such as turtles, fish, insects, and birds like scarlet ibis and weaver birds.
It's a small place, but it's SO beautiful! I loved it even more than the aquarium of Genova. You'll find 8 species of birds within this sphere, and nice plants and flowers as well. I can imagine some people won't enjoy it as much as we did (a family of four), since you 'can' walk through the Biosphere in 5 minutes of time. But then you won't have seen it all! I'd suggest you to make another round. And another one. And another one. Look at new places: look down, above, to the left, the right... You'll see new things, new flowers, new plants. Try to spot every bird species (we succeeded in this quest). Again; this is a beautiful place to visit! Special kudoos to cockatoo, who'll provide you with great photo moments ;-)

Unusual experience, just the place is too small and several visitors together is a little bit inconvenient. Birds and plants are nice and it’s wonderful to view them. The ticket is 5€, guess it’s a expensive for the place.
Lara B — Google review
A small tropical atmosphere in the middle of Europe. You can observe a couple of tropical plants and animals inside. The only penalty is they put the long distance flying wild parrot in a cage (while other animals are completely free). I hope they are setting him free when there is nobody inside. Otherwise it is not acceptable.
Irem G — Google review
The place is *very* small, most labels are in italian only, and the lady at the register was very unfriendly. Its very sad, because the birds are quite lovely in there. However, given the facts presented today, unfortunately not worth the money.
Philip B — Google review
A small biosphere, but a good experience. Can not complain because the price was a good deal. Got to see some pretty birds, turtles, and fish. It was nice.
Lily C — Google review
It’s very nice and everything is very well cared for but it is expensive for what it is… There are exotic birds and curious plants, like tamarindo tree, arabian coffee tree and even the chewing gum tree. But you see all in about 5-10 minutes so it is not worth the price (5€ adult).
Mar C — Google review
As it ways on the website: The Biosphere is a striking sphere of glass and steel designed by the architect Renzo Piano, which you can find in Genoa’s Porto Antico (the Old Port). Here you can learn about the plant and animal life in tropical forests, and find out more about these fragile environments that are highly endangered by human activities. Visitors will have the chance of taking a close look at more than 150 species, with their fragile beauty, and you will also find out why their survival depends on all of us. You will see rare tropical plants: not only tree ferns, but also plants that are traditionally used for human activities, such as gum trees, coffee plants, banana trees and cinnamon. The tree ferns that grow in the Biosphere are the tallest cultivated plants of this species in the whole world. However, if you are not really interested in the plants and tropical animals do not go there. In size, it's really small. I personally liked it because you get close to wild animals and birds (please just don't touch them it's not allowed). It could take 5 mins to look around or half an hour it depends solely on your level of interest. If you buy the tickets that includes several attractions be careful because the Biosphere closes early (I think the last group of people enters at 18:30). We made this mistake thinking that everything closes at 19:00 and could not get in, so we came back the next day.
Brigita C — Google review
It’s fun! The Biosfera took me back to my childhood in the eighties and early nineties with it’s magical combination of glass, metal and nature in perfect geometrical harmony. The sphere is a small artificial tropical climate that has many tropical plants and a few animals. The plants provide an interesting remembrance to the origin of certain spices, materials etc. The animals (some birds, a tortoise or turtle (I should have paid more attention) and a few walking stick insects in a terrarium) are cute. The staff was very friendly and enthusiastic. I really liked it, but was maybe biased from memories to times when such domes offered a glimpse to a better future for mankind. For not that much entrance fee (5.00 euro, with possibility of reductions) it is its money’s worth.

Nestled in the charming district of Genoa Nervi, the Parchi di Nervi is a stunning escape that beautifully blends nature and culture. This picturesque parkland features lush gardens, historic villas, and an impressive rose garden boasting over 400 varieties that burst into color during springtime. Visitors can stroll along the scenic Anita Garibaldi promenade while soaking in breathtaking sea views. Been there in November 2024. Lovely, perfectly maintained park, with large lawns and a lot of trees, providing shadowy areas, perfect for a rest during hot, sunny days. The park can be accessed directly from the pathway facing the sea.

Beautiful outdoor space. This public park right on the Mediterranean Sea is absolutely beautiful. There is a playground and you can walk through it to get to the train station or one of the public beaches.

Beautiful views, a place for visitors, you can sit quietly, eat and admire the views. Especially the views of the water reflecting on the rocks. The park is also beautiful and large

the parks of Nervi can be defined as Central Park in New York with the difference that it is bordered by the sea and above all in this period you can enjoy the mixed scents between sea and meadow... excellent after the office because you can relax. The only flaw is that despite being a public park it is closed at night.

D'Albertis Castle, a stunning 19th-century Gothic mansion in Genoa, is a treasure trove of cultural artifacts collected by Captain Enrico Alberto D'Albertis during his maritime adventures. This unique house-museum showcases an eclectic array of relics, from jewelry and musical instruments to tools and weapons, reflecting the diverse cultures he encountered across the globe.
I'm not sure if this is a "hidden gem" or if everyone knows about it, but it was certainly quiet when we went. Surrounded by a beautiful garden with spectacular views across Genoa harbour, Castello d'Albertis was by far my favourite attraction in Genoa (and I went to the aquarium, which is also fantastic). A huge and fascinating collection of artefacts collected from around the world, with a wonderful display of modern and graphic art on the ground and first floor. The cafe was also cheap and good quality. We loved looking at the literally hundreds of oddities and learning about the man himself. A definite must-see if you're in Genoa.

A pleasant place to relax with a beautiful garden and a wonderful view of the castle. A magnificent program over Genoa.
András E — Google review
This castle is easy to access from the city via the Montegalletto Lift - which is unique in itself. It houses a museum of Cultures of the World with many treasures secured from earlier times as well as some more modern pieces. Garden views over the city are pretty special and can be taken in freely if the museum is not your thing.

Interesting museum of Captain D’Albertis’s collection from his travel, as well as other exhibits of world artefacts and items with lots of explanation. Something a bit different to do in Genoa, and a cheap entry price for how much there is to see in there. Lots of interesting objects, furniture, art etc., including specialised areas from Asia, Africa, South America, and their significance in the Captain’s life/exploration.

Interesting castle with artifacts, a captain collected over the course of his life. We came on a Wednesday around 2pm and were the only patrons inside.

Beautiful castle on the hill overlooking Genna with a superb view. Inside, there are lots of interesting exhibits from around the world and pretty architecture throughout the castle. You can also enjoy some light food and drinks at the café before or after the visit. Reasonable entry at €6 for adults. Highly recommended and definitely worth the climb!

Wonderful place to visit and chill. Bus routes go right up outside the door of the castle. Beautiful nature stops and fantastic views of the city below. The castle itself is very well built and has lots of cool items and paintings. Don't worry if you have bags. They can be left safely behind the main desk as you travel through the castle.

Nestled in the heart of Genoa, Le Rune is a charming Italian restaurant that beautifully showcases seasonal dishes crafted from artisanal and locally sourced ingredients. The menu highlights an array of fresh seafood and fish, alongside delightful truffle and mushroom options that change regularly to reflect the best of local produce.
I know you are looking through reviews to make sure you find a place you’ll like. Go here, trust me, it is amazing. Had the best pasta we’ve ever had. Absolute perfection! Best pasta in Italy. Can’t say enough. Get anything local and you will be impressed. I am sure the rest is just as amazing but we only had local dishes when we wen’t. The service was top notch, smiles all around. Every staff member smiled and made me feel more than welcomed. Me and my wife, Emily, are fairly critical when it comes to going out to eat and we were hands down impressed with this restaurant. Worth it a million times over. Thanks you so much for a fantastic experience. You are the best and hard work deserves recognition. I hope we get to come back one day.

One of our favourite meals in Genova! The staff were so friendly and amazing. Everything was so delicious. We arrived at 7pm right before opening without a reservation and got a table for 1.5hrs. Highly recommend!

What a lovely local gem, featured in the Michelin Guide, with great service and delicious food. I especially love how they use fresh local ingredients and put a creative twist on traditional dishes. If you’ve had enough of the typical tourist fare, this is something different you’ll want to try. My personal recommendations: the savory panna cotta made with burrata, topped with basil and nuts, and the linguine with octopus tentacles, so yum!
Kristy T — Google review
We had such a wonderful dining experience here — every dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. We started with a stuffed courgette and beef tartare, which sadly we didn’t photograph, but it was a perfect opener: fresh, delicate, and full of contrast in texture and taste. For the mains, we tried the pork fillet with potato and black & white truffle sauce — rich, tender, and so comforting — and the burrata ravioli with pistachio sauce, which was a real standout. Creamy, nutty, and melt-in-your-mouth soft — honestly one of the best pasta dishes I’ve had in a long time. (Photos attached!) We finished with a raspberry sorbet, which was the perfect ending — light, tart, and refreshing. Service was kind and attentive, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed. You can tell the kitchen puts genuine care into everything they serve. Would absolutely return — and recommend without hesitation.

The food was great, also the drinks. The design and the atmosphere was not satisfying. Mainly tourists were eating in the restaurant, stupid signs not fitting the decor all over the place. The waitress was very friendly, but the staff was not enough. The process to pay took a long time. More expensive than traditional restaurants.

Is Le Rune the best restaurant in Genoa? I wouldn’t know, I didn’t eat anywhere else. After the first bite of my “poker” mixed seafood, I knew I would be back the next day. The food was top notch, every bite richly flavourful. Genoa is famous for its pesto? After their trofie pesto I now know why! Not just taste, but texture was well considered. The fish in their local stockfish stew was “tough”, not an attribute I usually like in fish, but it worked marvellously with the soft potatoes! Similarly their stuffed squid was exactly the right texture (important for squid). If the food wasn’t reason enough to come back, i would have probably came back for their warm and welcoming service and smiles. I ate both my dinner in Genoa here and had I stayed another day would have eaten there again! With any luck I hope to have the opportunity to eat at Le Rune again!!

An absolute gem in Genoa! Le Rune is a fantastic restaurant that truly captures the heart of Genoese dining. I had both a ravioli dish and an octopus dish and they were nothing short of outstanding. The ravioli was rich and perfectly cooked, while the octopus was tender and full of flavour. Every bite showed care and skill in the kitchen. The staff were brilliant; warm, attentive, and incredibly accommodating, making the whole experience feel relaxed and special. From start to finish, it was an unforgettable meal. If you’re in Genoa, do yourself a favour and book a table at Le Rune — you won’t regret it!

Le Strade Nuove and the Palazzi dei Rolli form a captivating UNESCO World Heritage Site in Genoa, showcasing the city's rich history and architectural grandeur. These magnificent palaces, built from 1576 under the guidance of Andrea Doria, served as opulent residences for noble families who hosted distinguished guests during state visits. The Palazzi dei Rolli consist of over one hundred stunning mansions that were meticulously categorized based on their architectural splendor and intended guest profiles.
The paintings were well displayed inside the Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo Tursi. You buy your combined ticket from the museum bookstore/shop before entering Rosso. The museum consists of three different palazzos; Rosso, Bianco and Tursi. All of the three palazzos contain now large collections of mainly Italian art.

(Translated by Google) The system of Palazzi dei Rolli winds through the ancient streets of Genoa, welcoming officials and dignitaries in rotation. Beautiful and superb, they testify to the beauty and history of the City, a military and commercial power on the seas, which in the Middle Ages was one of the European powers. It's a shame that we were only able to admire the austere facades and atriums, leaving us only to imagine the sumptuous interiors. But simply taking a walk among these examples of neoclassical and baroque style is already experiencing the past and history a little and breathing in the air of other times. Absolutely not to be missed to relive, at least for a few hours, the historicity and beauty of Genoese history. Bagni Medusa is a historic establishment located near the popular village of Sant'Ilario in the comune of Genoa. It features a natural swimming pool and an excellent restaurant known for its delicious spaghetti with clam sauce. The "bagno" is built on the rocks below the Nervi walkway, offering good access to the water, showers, and a sea water swimming pool.
Spent the day here with friends. Had a great time and enjoyed the beach setup. The food and wine from the restaurant is delicious. We had apps family style and each had a main. I had the ravioli. The fish is fresh from the sea. 10/10 recommend! However, the prices are pretty steep compared to other places in Genoa.

It is a nice beach near the public one. The sun bed is 25 euro each per day and the umbrella is 10 euro per day. It has fresh water for shower and bar for food and drinks. It is facing the see. The beach is full of large rocks and marine plants. So if you are planning to swim there, you need to get something to wear in the foot. Other than swimming and kayaking nothing much to do there. So if you are like to stay in the water for long time or taking sun bath, it is good place. Not much activities. Staff were amazing and very friendly and helpful. So diffenately give them 5 star rating but the whole place is good.

Quite pricey: €15 for a sunbed, and €10 for a chair. On top of that, additional €8 if you want an umbrella over your head. (But the prices seem to drop in the last 2 or so hours of service, with chairs going from €10 to €8). The food is also bit pricey, but is tasty and not disappointing (except the portion size may seem smaller at first). Overall a beautiful spot, and the pool is safe and is not chlorinated. Also, the place is open from 9 to 7, not 24 hours .

Signs said the bar was open so we walked down the steps to see what was there. We found a beautiful terrace with lots of tables, a sun terrace with loungers and a sea water swimming pool. Just lovely. We sat at a table and waited, but no one came so we went into the bar and no one came. Lots of staff moving tables, gathering cleaning equipment and working in the kitchen, but no one was looking after us. Finally a bar man came and took our order of two beers which we then took back outside. We got told to sit at table one, lots of pointing and waving to show where we shouldn't sit. We sat at table one and drank our Heinekens - Weiss beer was off and the only other draught beer was Morretti Red. Heineken was a grudge choice. The seawater swimming pool was lovely and catches the late afternoon sun perfectly as does the sun deck with chairs and loungers. The seating area is large, but we weren't allowed to sit anywhere other than the table nearest to the entrance to the bar, terrace or pool. Table One. All very strange. We decided we didn't want to eat here and paid our bill. Average beer in a nice location, but with no choice as to where we should sit and was also expensive. I hope we just got unlucky. Great views, poor choice of draft beer, expensive and a truly awful customer experience. Would actively seek out an alternative.

I first sat here to have a coffee and relax. Later, I got hungry and decided to try the famous trofie al pesto around 3pm in here, since most restaurants at city were closed at that time. I can’t compare since it was my first time trying it, but I liked the pasta. The oil and salt content of the pesto was just right. If the pasta was a bit more equal in size, they could all have been cooked more similarly. The place is in the center of a mercato, with an interesting atmosphere. It was a bit hot due to the summer. The service was average. However, I didn’t like the fact that it was served with a plastic plate and fork. Especially considering that hot pasta sticks to the plate while it cools down!

Unfortunately this was not the case and I give the third star because thanks to a combined ticket for the aquarium I did not have to pay the 7 euros for entry. My advice is that if you're not really strongly attracted or let's say insiders, it's not worth it. There are few things to see, many artificial things and old videos. A nice thing is the possibility of trying on the technical jackets used to take photos in the entrance section complete with snowmobile and tent... but this alone is not enough. Furthermore there are several animals that are fake here but 200m away at the aquarium they are real... if you have children then don't hesitate, go to the aquarium immediately and forget about this museum.

Gelateria Chicco has been serving amazing and delicious ice cream sundaes for over 30 years, maintaining its traditional Italian ice cream parlor charm. Visitors can enjoy a great variety of flavors including the much-loved pistachio gelato. In addition to their tasty treats, they also offer a selection of croissants and cookies. Although some find the waffle cone a bit small for three scoops, the overall taste and experience make it worth a visit.

As you step inside, you'll be greeted by an enchanting atmosphere featuring three naves adorned with striking black and white columns alongside light granite ones. The interior boasts a single nave flanked by two aisles, showcasing remnants from its earliest Roman construction.
This is one of the oldest church of Genova, exactly in 11th century. One can really be flabergasted by it's anterior beauty and antics which includes the paintings, statue's, walls , roofs and pillers. It's a pleasure to have known of this devotional place which is dedicated to San Donato and the relics are also preserved here beneath the alter. Villetta Di Negro is a charming park in the heart of Genoa, featuring a picturesque waterfall and the Edoardo Chiossone Oriental Art Museum housed in a reconstructed villa. Visitors describe it as a hidden gem, with winding paths that lead to the stunning waterfall and through artificial caves. The park offers panoramic views of Genoa from different vantage points, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful retreat away from the city hustle.
absolutely beautiful little area of green with a stunning little waterfall well hidden from the masses. I found it purely by accident. absolutely worth a visit, its free and open 24/7/365.25. no shops, toilets etc but also has a stunning view of the city and port. Great area for a picnic, but as with everything in genoa, plenty of steps to the top

A bit run down but probably what could be one of the coolest gardens I've seen! Has a great hit of medival times and lots to look at. It was under a bit of construction when we went so hopefully will look even better. Sadly there is a fair amount of pill packets and needles around, there is a toilet there but safer not to use it... Some of the bins full and broken. So sad! 🥺 I think some one even used the fungi to put their cigarette out ha-ha.

The International Library Edmondo De Amicis is located in the Porto Antico area and offers a range of activities for children and teenagers. (Translated by Google) Terrible, first of all it is frequented by dirty and smelly individuals, with psychological problems, who sometimes create problems to the point that security has to intervene. Some of them have dirty pants from their toilets and sit on the chairs, leaving traces of excrement (sometimes the biological residues are not visible) where the unaware students or users then sit, which especially near summer creates a further hygienic inconvenience, especially for girls or those who wear shorts. Despite this, a dirty chair reported to the management was not cleaned. Others listen to their cell phones without headphones, others talk. The library, even if it is for children (but everyone can access it), is very noisy, school children who shout, scream and run around continuously, therefore the sense of library is lost even for children or teenagers, as strangely they are not educated from an early age to respect others, at least by telling them to lower their voices. Management and staff do not intervene. A library, even if for children, cannot be like an open-air place where they can run around, shout, scream and shout, it's a bit ridiculous. Staff who if Who cares, some are rude, without realizing that for what they do, rather than working they are on citizen's income with socially useless work. Even if the library is supposed to close at 7 pm, already at 6:45 pm they rudely tell you to leave. Eataly Genova is a massive Italian super-deli located on the docks, offering a wide selection of high-quality food and products. The place provides stunning views over the town from its third-floor seafood restaurant called Il Marin. Visitors can enjoy delicious meals made with local produce that are light and worth the money.
Eataly Genoa is more than just a place to eat – it’s an experience that blends fine Italian cuisine with culture, quality, and breathtaking views. Located in the Porto Antico area, this spot is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic food, vibrant atmospheres, and a touch of elegance in their dining experience. From the moment you step in, you’re welcomed by a warm and modern space that reflects Italy’s passion for good food and conviviality. The layout is open and airy, with large windows that offer panoramic views of the harbor – especially beautiful at sunset. Whether you choose to dine indoors or on the terrace, the setting is ideal for a relaxed lunch or a romantic dinner. The menu at Eataly Genoa is a celebration of Italian flavors, with a strong focus on regional specialties and high-quality ingredients. Everything from the fresh seafood pasta to the wood-fired pizzas is crafted with care and attention to detail. I highly recommend the Ligurian trofie al pesto – it’s simple yet absolutely delicious, bursting with flavor from the homemade pesto. The seafood dishes are also exceptional – fresh, perfectly cooked, and beautifully plated. What sets Eataly apart is not just the food, but the philosophy behind it. They support local producers, use seasonal ingredients, and promote sustainability. You can taste the difference in every bite. The wine list is equally impressive, featuring an excellent selection of Italian wines, with knowledgeable staff who are happy to help you choose the perfect pairing. The service was professional and friendly. The staff spoke both Italian and English, and they made sure we were comfortable and well looked after throughout our visit. After your meal, you can stroll through the shop area, where they sell a wide range of gourmet products – from artisan pasta and sauces to Italian wines and sweets. It’s the perfect place to pick up souvenirs or gifts for food lovers. In short, Eataly Genoa delivers a complete experience: exquisite food, a stunning location, great service, and a chance to take a little piece of Italy home with you. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, this place is a true culinary destination.

A nice place to have a great meal by the port. We tried lots of dishes and they were fresh and tasty. They have a kids menu which is not very common in restaurants here. I didn't like the fact that we need to walk all around the store to go to the restaurant, it also doesn't look/feel authentic, but the food and service was really good.

I tried the Parma pizza at Eataly in Genoa: it was good, but honestly, I expected something more impressive given the reputation of the place. The ingredients are clearly high quality: the Parma ham is flavorful and properly aged, the mozzarella is creamy, and the crust is light and crisp, just as you'd expect from a proper pizza al tagliere. Still, the overall combination felt a bit too safe. It lacked that extra touch or twist that would make it truly stand out: maybe something fresher or more aromatic to elevate the flavors. It’s the kind of pizza that’s solid and well-made, but not particularly memorable. All in all, a good experience, but I walked in with higher expectations.

The MSC Terminal is a part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company's innovative approach to cruising, allowing passengers to start their journey at any port of call. This concept eliminates the need for expensive and crowded cruise terminals, offering intimate and efficient facilities along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Visitors have praised its convenient location near city centers, with easy access to transportation options.
The staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming, guiding us smoothly through the check-in process. The terminal is clean, well-organized, and offers amenities to make the wait comfortable. Baggage handling was efficient, and the views of the harbor while waiting were beautiful. Highly recommend for anyone starting their cruise here

I had a fantastic experience at MSC Terminal Genova! The check-in process was well-organized, and the staff were helpful and efficient. The terminal is clean, modern, and conveniently located near the city center, making it easy to explore Genoa before or after your cruise. The only minor downside was a bit of waiting during peak times, but everything moved along smoothly. The views of the port while boarding were stunning - what a way to start a vacation! Would definitely sail from here again. Grazie, MSC! 🚢🇮🇹

First time using MSC and we had zero problems. Very well organised bus terminal and smooth transition to ship. Once on the vessel it was all smooth sailing from Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner meal. If you booked excursions they are also smooth, but are not part of MSC organisation, private shore organisation for each port visited, so guides will vary at each port, some better than others all interesting to visit and listen to the guides.

We just disembarked from our 7 day cruise from Genoa. Initially we were very impressed with the cruise, its amenities and the efficiency in getting on/off the ship at every port. Unfortunately our stay turned to disappointment on the last night when we tried to explain to the service desk that there were bedbugs in the room and that they should probably take the room out of service. The guest service supervisor was dismissive and told us there were no bed bugs. The paramedic on ship could not confirm or deny if they bites were bb’s and told us to see the doctor for a fee. We were not looking for compensation but rather providing feedback and looking after the experience of the next guest checking in and he really didn’t seem to care. While he suggests there were no bed bugs, I’m not sure how my partner woke up bitten every morning… will not recommend. Note* Tried to attach photos of bb but Google detected them as inappropriate

I recently checked into my room where I had booked a king size bed. However, I was surprised to find that the “king size” bed is actually made of two single mattresses placed together, without a topper. This creates a large gap in the middle, making it very uncomfortable to sleep – essentially forcing me to choose one side or the other. This setup does not match what was paid for, and it significantly affects the comfort of the stay. After the reply I got from the hotel, I have to update my review and I give also 1 star to SERVICE. How is it possible that you have rooms with 1 mattress king size and you don’t give it straight to the guest ? Do I have to complain to reception, in order to get what I asked and paid for ? Is this the service you give to your guests ? Sometimes it is better to keep quiet or just say a basic sorry.

Overall this is a beautiful hotel with spacious rooms. However, it being a hot august we had a problem with the air conditioning. They sent up maintenance who turned the thermostat on and off and said it was fixed. The next morning at 7am i went to the front desk and inquired again as my group was departing at 9 I was told to wait in my room and they would send someone up. At 945 after not hearing from them I inquired and they said he had just arrived and I didn't need to be in my room. The rest of my family had gone with the group and all I had needed was a call rather than burn my daughters birthday alone in a hotel room.
Derek R — Google review
Disappointing stay. Scaffolding up, undergoing some work. We booked an upgrade from the standard room to get a view on the nice Marina. When we entered the room we discovered that most of one of the sides of the hotel is currently under works… we were of course not notified at booking nor at checkin. They accepted to change our room to a similar room on a higher floor but we were still disturbed in the morning by the construction noise… not acceptable at this level of price and standard. As there is no communication about the works, not sure how long it will last. I would advise to choose the Bristol in the city center instead, great hotel.

Letizia Giannella at the NH Collection Genoa Marina went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. From making dinner reservations and helping us arrange a fantastic tour guide to Portofino, to seamlessly relocating us to a new room when the AC wasn’t working, she handled everything with professionalism, intelligence, and grace. Letizia is the kind of concierge every hotel hopes for—customer-focused, detail-oriented, and genuinely committed to creating a great guest experience. She understands exactly what it takes to run a four-star hotel at the highest standard. Thanks to her, our time in Genoa was golden, and for that, we’re truly grateful. In fact, the service we received here was better than what we experienced at a five-star hotel elsewhere. Letizia is the real deal, and NH Collection Genoa is lucky to have her. (Translated by Google) Murta is small and on the occasion of the pumpkin festival it is even more so, perhaps I would recommend not going there on Sunday, there are really too many people and there is a lot of disorganization in the food, only once we arrived did we discover that we couldn't pay with a debit card, oh well... the food was delicious anyway! Let's say it's worth doing at least once! Abbey
Chiesa e chiostro di San Matteo is a medieval abbey founded in 1125, featuring a striking striped facade and the 16th-century crypt of Andrea Doria. The church offers a journey into the past with its three naves, black and white columns, and thirteenth-century facade. It overlooks a charming medieval square in Genoa's historic center. Inside, visitors can admire relics from the period of the Genoese Republic.
A very pretty church near the Cathedral of Genova. The church serves as the chapel of the Doria family, an ancient and noble genovese family. It was constructed in a gothic style. Inside you will find many tombs of various Doria’s, and in the cloister, there are various scenes from Genovese history- such as the victory against Pisa. One of the columns in the church is red- according to local genovese history, that is the Blood of Branca Doria- a man who killed his son-in-law because he wanted his lands back in the late 13th century. Overall a hidden gem of Genova
Giovanni B — Google review
The Church of San Matteo was founded in 1125 by Martino Doria as a private chapel (gentilizia) of the Doria family. In 1132, the church was dedicated by Bishop Siro II, now Pope Innocent II. The Doria family from the outset made St. Matthew their patron saint, also because Matthew served as tax collector (gabelliere), as did some family members. In 1278, the building was rebuilt in the Gothic style; the façade was set back to align with the new buildings forming the family square. Between 1308 and 1310, a chiostro (monastery-courtyard) was built next to the church. In the 16th century, under the direction of Andrea Doria, further changes were made: the interior was remodeled in the Baroque style, the nave (or aisles) and decoration were changed, and new elements were added, such as the chancel, dome, and crypt. Artists such as Giovanni Battista Castello and Luca Cambiaso contributed to the decoration. Sources also mention alterations to the naves between 1557 and 1559. Conservation work was carried out in the 20th century: in 1934, 1991-92, and others. Facade: Romanesque Gothic façade from the 13th century, typical of Genoa—alternating black and white stripes (black stone from Promontorio + white marble). The façade is divided into three sections by pilasters or arches; a large central rose window, flanked by two bifora windows. Nave and Interior: Interior with three naves, Baroque decorations following the 16th-century reconstructions. Vaulting/partitions, choir stalls, painted and sculptural decorations—including works by Luca Cambiaso and Giovanni Battista Castello. Chiostro (Cloister-Courtyard): Located on the left side of the church, it has a quadrangular floor plan, with pointed arches (ogival arches) on double, paired columns. A well is located in the center. Along the loggia walls are numerous tombstones of the Doria family. A few of the more important elements worth seeing: "Miracle of the Ethiopian Dragon" – a painting by Luca Cambiaso. "Vocation of St. Matthew" by Giovanni Battista Castello. "Deposition" – a wooden sculpture by Anton Maria Maragliano. High altar: "Holy Family with St. Anne" by Bernardo Castello. Sarcophagus of Andrea Doria in the crypt. Baroque organ by Antonio Alari (18th century, 1773). San Matteo is located in the heart of Genoa, in the "Molo" district. The square in front of the church is one of Genoa's best-preserved medieval urban spaces ("Piazza San Matteo"), surrounded by the palaces of the Doria family. Admission to the church is free and open daily.

This cloister (and the square around it) is amazing! It can be visited in about half an hour - but if you are a medieval art conaisseur you may want to spend the entire day here! If you can get a guide in advance so you can learn all about genovese history from the 13th century onwards. Don’t miss out on the San Matteo church (next to the cloister, with the traditional genovese marble and slate façade) and the buildings surrounding the square!

This Gothic building with its white marble and black slate stripes is almost obscured by its surroundings. It had gone through transformation since it was founded in 1125 by Martino Doria. As a private chapel for the Doria family, it had seen renovation works with additional work like the presbytery and the dome, nave and aisles and various decorations. According to its history, the sword housed under the altar belonged to Andrea Doria, was donated by Pope Paul III. It's worth exploring.

Our recent experience arriving at the Port of Genoa aboard a GNV vessel from Tunisia was genuinely outstanding, and we couldn't be more pleased with how smooth and efficient the entire disembarkation process was. We arrived around midnight, which could easily have made for a long and tiring night — but to our surprise and delight, the whole operation was exceptionally well-organized. We were fortunate to be among the first few vehicles allowed to disembark, and from the moment we began moving, it was clear that the process was being managed with great care and professionalism. The queue progressed steadily without any unnecessary delays, and there was a clear sense of order that made everything feel calm and controlled. What really stood out to us, however, was the demeanor and helpfulness of the customs officers on duty. They were not only efficient in their checks but also incredibly polite, respectful, and willing to assist with any questions or concerns. Their friendly approach added a very welcome human touch to what can sometimes be a stressful part of international travel. Within just 10 minutes of leaving the ferry, we had cleared all necessary checks and were officially out of the port — a record time compared to other ports we’ve traveled through in the past. It was such a relief to be on the road so quickly and without any hassle, especially considering we had a long journey ahead of us to the North West of England. All in all, the experience at Genoa port far exceeded our expectations. From the seamless organization and swift processing to the courteous and supportive customs staff, everything was handled with impressive efficiency and professionalism. We would absolutely recommend this port for fellow travelers — it truly made a positive difference to the start of our overland journey.

Golfo Paradiso offers an exciting opportunity for whale watching and dolphin spotting through offshore excursions that depart from Ponte Spinola at the Porto Antico. The 4-hour tour heads to the Pelagos Sanctuary, known as the Cetacean Sanctuary, where sightings of dolphins and whales are possible. The Liguria Via Mare Consortium provides one of the best excursions for observing these marine animals in Genoa.
We went on a beautiful day and saw 3 cuvier's beaked whales, lots of striped dolphins and a sea turtle. You need to be lucky and pick a day when the sea is calm to spot the animals. The crew gives information in English and Italian and they are passionate about the animals. It was very fun to see the dolphins play and jump in the waves created by the boat. We had a great time!

Had a great full day trip! My favorite place was Camogli. The boats were nice, clean, punctual, and the guides were friendly. Definitely recommend!
Erin C — Google review
Great way to see the beautiful coastline to the East of Genova - we bought the full day ticket for €28 that includes Camogli, San Fruttuoso and Portofino. We found you had to be quite early for each boat and that you could be waiting in the piping hot Italian sun during this time which was tricky for us with a 10 month old baby in tow. I had thought there would be more boats going back to Genova but there was only one at the end of the day so we took a train back from Camogli - the station was 10 minutes walk from the boat. One issue I found was that San Fruttuoso was packed and I think it's because most people (including us) have it as the middle stop which makes sense geographically but it's a very small place and it would be better to go earlier or later than lunch to avoid the busy time. We had the tip of sitting on the left of the boat on the way out and right on the way back for the best views.
Lydia B — Google review
I tried purchasing online to pick up in Recco. Never got a confirmation or an address to pick it up on Recco so we drove to Genoa. We were able to purchase the round trip ticket there for $25 pp. Stopped at Camogli, San Fruttuoso and Portofino. Stayed in Portofino for an hour. Just enough time to find a nice little leather shop and buy a purse. Tried two different leather shops in Genoa but one was only a street market and the other was closed until tomorrow. That's another story. Just don't believe Google maps when it says a plane is open. Either was, this trip was nice to see the coastline and the random castles that are dotted along the way. The trip there was not too crowded, the trip back from Portofino was really packed. Maybe we were on one i if the last trips of the day. I would still use this water taxi again.
Charlene B — Google review
We saw some dolphins but no whales. The personnel was really enthousiastic and good at spotting, but mostly in Italian. It was a nice trip but the price seems a bit high for what you get. Also, they don't serve alcohol on the boat which was slightly disappointing for us since we love to drink some wine when in italy.
Laura — Google review
Glad we chatted to the lovely lady in the ticket office for her advice on how to make the most of the boat service. We were really happy with the boat, the space and the timings to visit Camogli and see some of the Ligurian coastline.
Becky K — Google review
I was already satisfied with the stripe dolphins we managed to spot repeatedly, but then we also saw a sperm whale for the entire duration that he was preparing to dive, blowing and all. It was mesmerizing and I felt something watching it. The crew seemed really passionate to me also.

(Translated by Google) I'm from Genoa and I live just a few kilometers from the motorboat embarkation from Pegli. For the first time yesterday we decided to take the trip from the small pier at the beginning of Pegli to the ancient port of Genoa and back. The very first positive aspect is the large paid car park right next to the pier, although always quite crowded but with a good chance of finding a space. Yesterday's Sunday (20/03/22) was favorable both for the sun and the climate and for the calm sea. On the outward journey we purchased the ticket on the pier itself from a member of the crew, while on the return journey it is better to get the ticket before queuing (the ticket office is near the entrance to the aquarium near the other tourist ships). We did the outward journey indoors with greater tranquility although the view is less appreciable through the windows wet with salt. the children were ecstatic and glued to the glass to try to recognize their landmarks on land from the sea. Even for adults (at least for me) it was nice to see Genoa (beloved Genoa) from an unusual point of view, it goes without saying that it is not a view of the most beautiful coves or beaches but a short trip inside of a historic and very busy port for which we start from the airport and then continue with the industrial areas of Cornigliano, the various terminals of the container port of Genoa, the view of the Lantern set between the coal and hydrocarbon storage structures and then finally arrive in sight of the cruise ship pier, the tugboats and the ancient port with the cotton warehouses on the right, the Nave Italia and the aquarium on the left with the Bio Sfera and finally the docking right in the shadow of the Bigo. it was a wonderful experience and I hope to do it again, the children were happy and the adults also appreciated it a lot. Service info, on holidays with nice weather the ship is very popular so it's best to queue early (better if you have tickets). The outdoor seats are very pleasant for the view and the "holiday trip" effect but they are very exposed so the wind can be annoying.

The second floor was filled with the first few people who entered, as they had the best view and the wide panorama. It's excellent for people who have never traveled on a boat, launch, or ship. It's an experience not to be missed. Recommended for all ages. Drinks are allowed on board. Just be careful around the edges, as the sea can be quite rough at times and you could slip. After all, everything was great. I'm not up to date on the available times, but keep in mind that you might have to wait a bit for availability. I almost forgot. You can see the cargo port, the airport, and certain areas of the nearby beaches, as well as many vessels, from the smallest to the largest, such as cruise ships and intercontinental cruise ships.

(Translated by Google) Convenient to get to the ancient port of Genoa in about 30 minutes from Pegli. On weekends there's a lot of queues, too many. The same company provides, during normal hours, a return trip from Porto Antico to Pegli and back, I advise against it being too touristy (even if during navigation they explain very well the importance of the port of Genoa and import/export goods) . Price one way €4. Prezzo solo andata 4€.

(Translated by Google) I wanted to take the Navebus with the AMT Genova 24-hour pass (€10). It was out of service due to rough seas, even though it was a calm day and it stays within the breakwater. I later saw that it does offer harbor tours for €10 per person. The AMT card isn't valid in that case. I strongly suspect that commercial interests trump the Navebus function. I should have bought the €4.50 pass without the Navebus.

Nestled just under a kilometer from the bustling city center and a mere hundred meters from Brignole train station, UrbanFlora is an ideal retreat for travelers seeking comfort in Genoa. Guests rave about the spacious, impeccably clean rooms that exude a delightful fragrance, making it a perfect haven after exploring the vibrant streets.
the rooms were incredibly clean and spacious and we loved how great the location was !! so convenient to get around and personally thought it was in a safe neighborhood. great spots for sandwiches (panetto perfetto) and gelato (gelateria pisacane) around the area and bus stops that take you straight to the beaches. would absolutely recommend for your stay in Genova😊
Sally L — Google review
The room was not cleaned at all during the whole week. There was dust and our hair all over the floor. The rooms look different from the photos. Towels and bed sheets were changed only once in a week. Breakfast was very poor — you pay so much just to get one croissant, and it’s not worth booking because the breakfast also included only a croissant and two rotten fruits. I would not recommend this place.

Super clean, great amenities and located in a beautiful building. Walkable to metro station and old town - overall fantastic value.

Beautiful rooms, newly refurbished, great design and very clean. Lovely breakfast (for an additional charge but honest), all fresh food. Welcoming host, went above and beyond for us. Thank you

Lovely room , with all the comfort features you would need in a historical building. The air conditioning didn’t seem to work properly on the first evening but eventually turned on after a few hours.Very comfortable bed and modern facilities.

Had an amazing one week stay at UrbanFlora. The host was extremely kind and helpful and the rooms were clean and cozy. Walking distance from a lot of central places in Genoa. Would love to visit again!
Theofanis S — Google review
I stayed here 1 week and sheets weren't changed and housekeeping wasn't provided, only the towels were changed every 3 days and nothing else. Floor was dirty the day of arrival and remained dirty after they changed the towels. Noisy, I could hear the rumors of other people walking in the hotel and of course the city rumors. Breakfast service provided was cheap for having paid 1000 euro per 6days. Staff approach and communication in general was not professional, no hospitality manners unfortunately. I've asked to have the iron if possible and was confirmed to me by phone that they would have added the iron in my room, but nope... and I didn't asked to add it at arrival because the behavior of the man working there is not the best. I will not recommend it, no value for money.

We had an amazing stay at Luca's apartment in Genova! The location couldn't have been better. It is in the city centre, close to attractions, restaurants, and public transportation. Luca's hospitality was exceptional, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived in Italy. The apartment is fantastic - the bed is incredibly comfortable, clean and very quiet. Dear Luca! We are very thankful to you for the beautiful and stylish apartment in which we stayed this August. We found all comfort we needed after hectic days we spent in your amazing city. The design of your apartment is great - furniture, paintings on the walls, even beautiful orchids on the window sills. It made us feel like home. We found all comfort we needed. Also, It was incredibly nice to receive a bottle of excellent prosecco as a gift from you. We wish you a lot of happiness and your business - prosperity. With love from all of us!

(Translated by Google) Wonderful apartment in the middle! in the old town of Genoa. King size bed!!! with a good mattress, an included parking space and air conditioning… why doesn’t every AirBnB have that? Price-performance fits! The apartment corresponds to the pictures, new and functionally furnished, well equipped (including washing machine with dryer... runs for a long time, as is usual in Italy), sufficiently large, bright, very clean. Communication with Luca was prompt, personal welcome, prosecco and milk in the fridge. Top. Yes, you have to climb each of the five floors... and as is often the case in Italy: sometimes the upstairs neighbors move the furniture around in the night and there are a few mosquitoes if you're not careful. Parking garage 'a bit expensive', but car was in good hands. Conclusion: Clear recommendation (Original) Herrliches Apartment mitten! in der Altstadt von Genua. Fazit: Klare Empfehlung
