Scenic Walking Areas
Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, a Scottish gem, offers a mix of stunning natural landscapes and rich history. At its heart lies Loch Lomond, the UK's largest freshwater body, providing various water activities and scenic islands to explore. The park boasts diverse terrains from lush southern landscapes to rugged northern glens.
Loch Lomond is another heavenly beauties of Scotland. It has Towering Mountains, Glittering Lochs, Dense Woodlands and Several Islands. Here, you can see the mountains are kissing the water and the sky at the same time. You will see unreal beauty, if you visit on a bright sunny day. Very close to Balloch railway station. The River Cruise is a must, where you will enjoy the water, stunning mountain views and several islands in the journey. Perfect weekend trip for your family. The kids will enjoy the fullest. We took the Silver Dolphin Cruise which was amazing. A must visit place, if you are in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

A stunning place to visit. Just a few minutes walk from the train station, and you are in breath-taking scenery. There are lots of different walking trails. Dotted around the loch, there are children's play areas. There is also a castle and walled garden that you can explore. The nearest toilets are at the castle. There were picnic tables. There are hard surface paths around the loch. These are wheelchair accessible. Dog walking off lead is allowed.

This is amazingly beautiful place to do hiking, chilling by the water or doing water activities, it has it all covered. Little place called Luss, was a brilliant spot for us. Has got boat tours, little cafe and shop, parking and petrol station, town streets and houses are postcard perfect, the beach with white sand. Amazing experience. Weather in the morning didn't promise a nice day, but later sunshine appeared and it was lovely.

Breathtaking! A cross between North Carolina and Colorado. We came through in March and I can only imagine what the scenery is like here in the summer and fall. We were able to see a tremendous variety of flora and fauna, from vast swatches of some of the largest daffodils I have ever seen, to wild Scottish Red Deer, which look similar to a North American Elk. The weather, while cold and damp, was almost perfect for the time of year we visited. This is a bucket list item, for sure!
Joe M — Google review
Truly a beautiful lake, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I can really tell the Scottish people take real good care of the lake too. Well worth a visit.
Nick — Google review
We were staying in Stirling and went on a day trip to see this area. It was amazing to see the beautiful highland landscapes and lowland rolling hills & drive through the villages.
Catherine H — Google review
Camping is allowed in this area as its outwith the Loch Lomond and Trossachs no camping zone. Parking at the Balquhidder church this route takes about an hour and a half walking. There isn't many good pitches at Lochan Eireannaich but I managed to find a good one.
Colin M — Google review
Although far for most Englanders, this is a place of extraordinary beauty. Whether you like watersports, or hiking. Quick tips: 1. Always carry midge spray. Avoid DEET though. Midges usually are the biggest annoyance in and around the area. 2. If you booked a water taxi, make sure you call them ahead of schedule if the jeti they will pick you up from is busy.

Shopping mall
Neighborhoods
Loch Lomond Shores, located just a short drive from downtown Glasgow, seamlessly blends into the picturesque surroundings near Balloch. This popular destination offers a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy. The shopping mall features well-known brands and locally crafted goods, while dining options cater to diverse tastes. Additionally, the site hosts events throughout the year and is home to attractions such as the Sealife Centre and crazy golf. Families can also take boat trips or relax in the kids' play area.
A stunning waterside destination, ideal for a day out with family or friends. The breathtaking views of the loch and surrounding hills make it a paradise for photography enthusiasts, while the variety of activities ensures there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The shopping area features charming boutiques and gift shops, and the cafes and restaurants serve delicious food with picturesque views. The SEA LIFE Aquarium is a hit with kids, though it’s a bit small for the price. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the walking trails, cycling paths, boat tours, and the adventure play areas for children. Seasonal markets and events add a lively touch, though it can get crowded during busy times. Parking is convenient but fills up fast, especially on weekends. A bonus is the availability of EV charging stations. Overall, it’s a fantastic, family-friendly destination offering a little bit of everything. Highly recommended for its serene views and relaxing atmosphere

Loch Lomond Shores offers a mix of shopping, dining, and activities by the loch, including the Sea Life Aquarium and Bird of Prey Centre, appealing to families. While intended as a vibrant hub with events and watersports, recent reviews suggest it currently lacks atmosphere and some facilities are not well-maintained. It's a convenient stop with potential, but perhaps not consistently delivering a top-tier experience.
Ali H — Google review
Beautiful Scenery and Relaxing Atmosphere Visited Loch Lomond Shores recently and really enjoyed the natural beauty of the place. The views of the loch are stunning, especially on a clear day — perfect for a peaceful walk along the water. There’s a good mix of shops, cafés, and small attractions, which makes it a nice spot for families or a quiet day out. Parking was convenient, though a bit busy during peak hours. Some areas could do with a bit more maintenance, but overall the place felt welcoming and safe. A lovely spot to unwind and take in some classic Scottish scenery — just don't expect a full outdoor adventure unless you head further into the national park.
Adnan Q — Google review
There's a shopping mall at the shore with shops and restaurants. There's a mini golf and an aquarium. There's also kayaking and boat cruises. Lovely view from the shore

Beautiful place! Long walks either side, during the spring/summer lots of water activites. During the end of summer is the food festival and near Christmas, is the Markets! Lots of parking, both coach and cars. Worth visiting to see the Ben in the distance.

Haven't been here for many years and nice to see it is still up and running. Nice array of shops with the smaller gift and souvenirs type store to designer and labels. 2 cafes in centre and heaps of parking outside. The toilets were immaculate, child, nursing and disability friendly. Great location on the Loch with Sea Life Centre, Crazy Golf, Tours ticket office and Markets on 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month. The Loch Lomond Bird of Prey centre is only 100 mtrs away also.

Balloch Castle Country Park, situated on the southern shore of Loch Lomond, features a 19th-century castle surrounded by ornamental gardens and nature trails. The Tudor Gothic style castle was commissioned in 1809 and includes decorative defensive features like turrets and lancet windows. The park offers serene lochside walks with tree-lined paths and a children's play area.
Such a big and beautiful park in Balloch! There’s a lovely castle to explore, clean toilets, and even a fun little fairy trail to keep things magical. Loads of space for dogs, running, and jogging perfect for a day out. The variety of trees and plants makes it feel really peaceful and green. Great spot for all ages!
Marta K — Google review
Another great spot for Family. Toilets a bit far though and up the hill. Lovely play parks and lots of open green space to play all sorts of sports games or just to chill on a blanket. Stunning views. Very clear water. The only downside for us it was quite a lot of broken glass on the beach and my girls love walking bare feet. Staff tries their best to keep it clean but it is up to us actually to leave no print behind.
Iwona — Google review
This charming and tranquil location is not very well-known among tourists, making it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of more crowded attractions. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the serene lake, which adds to the area’s natural beauty. Families will find a delightful playground for children, providing a safe and fun space for them to explore and play. Convenient facilities include clean restrooms located adjacent to the historic castle, ensuring comfort for all visitors. Best of all, parking is free, making it easy to spend a leisurely day soaking in the picturesque surroundings.
Ashish M — Google review
First time in this park despite my many visits over the years to Balloch. Wanted to go for picturesque dog walk & was not disappointed. Perfect time of year at autumn . Will be back more often 👌🏻
Liz W — Google review
Great place for a walk and picnic. Stunning views of loch lomond. Grounds are spotlessand well maintained. The castle is closed to the public but if you have an interest in history or just like to visit beautiful buildings then its worth a visit if in the area. Public toilets are in the castle. If you walk down the hill towards the pier there is a kiosk if you want to grab an ice cream.
Sharlene R — Google review
A lovely castle that is sadly rotting away. You are able to walk around the outside, and there are toilets available. The toilets were in good condition. It should be noted they close at 2.30 pm during the winter. There is a hard surface path to the castle, but it is up a hill, so it would depend on the wheelchair type and fitness of the user.
Shelley C — Google review
I find this park to be a wonderful spot with breathtaking views of Loch Lomond, scenic walking paths, and wide open areas perfect for picnicking or unwinding. Very clean and green area. Parking is big and free, there is a huge playground for the kids, cafe and ice cream shop

We were staying in Stirling and went on a day trip to see this area. We parked in the castle parking area for free anc walked around the ruins of the 13th century castle. It was barricaded. We walked the path leading to Loch Lomond and enjoyed the views. There was a playground near the lake and our kids & grandkids enjoyed the play set.

Well worth the drive. Enjoy the tour of the loch. Amazing views and stunning geography. Close to Three Lochs Drive. For those with caravans, they have electric hookups available and a bath/shower lodge as well.

An absolutely beautiful place to visit. There's a nice welcoming café, toilets, bike rental or a nice walk around the loch and also boat rides. I went on the steam ship (sir Walter Scott) and it was super. Prices vary depending on what time slots you go for but it's worth it. Totally recommend.

Love this place, nice cafe, plenty parking space, can do the boating trip, hire a electric or pedal bike to ride along the loch which has a nice road along the loch which goes all the way to loch Lomond. I have been to this place quite a few times over one decade, still whenever i come here feels very nice…. Oh… dont forget to make a wish, there is a wishing well in front of cafe… u cant miss it……

Had a fantastic little day at loch katrine. We took and guided boat tour where we were told everything about the loch in the way round. Very interesting. Beautiful views all around. The little gift shop was nice we bought a wee highland cow for my daughter. We visited the cafe which was very pricey but lovely views food and coffee and plenty room. Highly recommend for a day out.

Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre is a national park home to various avian predators and owls. The centre offers daily shows that aim to educate visitors about these animals, as well as their abilities. Visitors can enjoy unique experiences like hawk walks and owl encounters.
A great experience- but you need to see the birds flying currently 11.30am and 2pm. The bird flight was very interesting with lots of relevant information. Despite the drizzle we had a great time. Thoughtfully the cleaned off the water from the bench before we sat down. Then a good half hour show with three birds. Harris's Hawk, Eagle Owl, and a smaller bird, possibly a kite, which apparently was 12 years old - far older than you'd find in the wild. The centre is small but it is providing sanctuary to birds that sometimes were recovered. I believe the birds are taken out on rotation to fly, so they do not live their whole life in the cages. I gained the impression the staff really cared and the birds looked to be in beautiful condition, with no obvious signs of stress. There was a nice little gift shop with Thoughtful materials and souvenirs made from wood, largely avoiding the plastic trashy stuff you often see. A facility well worth supporting.
Paul B — Google review
Good for kids with engaging flying shows, the Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre offers close-ups with impressive raptors. However, seeing some beautiful birds in relatively small enclosures did evoke a sense of sadness despite the conservation efforts.
Ali H — Google review
Beautiful birds, knowledgeable staff, great function when we can see the birds fly and learn about their habitats and challenges. It would be a good idea to include more information about birds provenance in the signs. I had the pleasure to discuss with one of the handlers and learned much more than what was included on the signs. Thank you! If you have questions, ask to speak with one of the members of the team. They are very knowledgeable.
F M — Google review
My whole life I have wanted to get into falconry, but due to the nature of my job it’s almost impossible. I happened to find out about the bird of prey center on an online forum before my wife and I traveled from the states to visit Scotland. It seemed like a to good to be true moment, well I’m happy to say it more than over delivered. Our teacher Hannah should be the face of this awesome place, she knew everything about these amazing birds and made us incredibly comfortable when we got to handle them. We got to fly gonzo the spectacled owl, sully the American kestrel, and toothless the Harris hawk. Hannah not only talked about the birds (with an astonishing amount of information) but mankind’s interactions (both good and bad) with birds of prey. She didn’t romanticize the care of these animals. She set real expectations should the opportunity ever come for me to try my hand at falconry. If you near Loch Lomond make the time to come here, spend the money to take out some of there amazing birds and support an origination that so clearly loves these animals. Thanks again Hannah for a great once in a lifetime opportunity.
Matthew K — Google review
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this place. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and all the birds looked very well and happy. We watched one of the free shows where they brought out various birds and explained their personalities and species. The show was really fun, and it was great to see how happy and free the birds were. People complaining about the cost is ridiculous. You can come and go as you please, take your time to read the information and learn about each bird, and explore the cabins with information, bones, skulls, and feathers. There’s also a small seated area with a video playing. All in all, it was a great time, and if you’re around to catch a show at the listed times, I highly recommend it.
Alix M — Google review
Fantastic little place that we all thoroughly enjoyed visiting (2 adults & 2 children - 13 & 10 yrs old). Those that are saying the enclosures are too small etc, obviously didnt take the time to talk to the staff about the origins and needs of the birds at the sanctuary. We were lucky enough to do a flying experice (Highly reccomend) with a gorgeous old man (Owl) called Cargo. His hadler was so knowledgeable and the staff are all absolutely dedicated to the birds care and well being, and will talk to you about anything you want to know! The flying show was full of facts and demonstrated the birds individual characters (very funny). Money well spent on a very enjoyable visit & a good cause.
Sarah B — Google review
Didn't help that it was raining but some birds were in cages some were in pens they looked very healthy. But it was over too soon .little bit pricey for the amount of time it takes you to go round .Didn't manage to see any shows but we were the only peaple there

Loch Lomond is a picturesque highlands lake offering waterside paths, cruises, adventure attractions, golfing opportunities, and charming villages. To increase the chances of wildlife encounters, staying outdoors in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is recommended. There are various accommodation options available from simple meadow pitches to luxurious log cabins with easy access to Scottish wildlife.
A stunning loch, with plenty of walking routes around it. There's plenty of options for a bit of wild swimming. We walked alongside it while walking the West Highland Way.

Beautiful lake. The boat trip is a must. A walk to the castle is pleasant and quite relaxing. This is a visit to a wonderful park. Not a walk on nature. Overall, I recommend the trip.

What a beautiful place to explore. Had a cruise on the lake which is a must. On a good day you can walk around the loch and climb the Ben Lomond and do a scenic walk in one of the loch’s islands. Make sure you allocate enough time to be able to do most of the activities.

🌊 My Visit to Loch Lomond, Scotland Visiting Loch Lomond was a breathtaking experience. Located just about an hour from Glasgow, it is the largest freshwater loch in Scotland and part of the stunning Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Surrounded by rolling hills, forests, and charming villages, the scenery is simply spectacular. I enjoyed a leisurely walk along the shore, boat rides on the loch, and exploring the picturesque village of Luss. The calm waters, reflections of the hills, and peaceful atmosphere make it a perfect spot for photography, picnics, and relaxation. Visitor Tips: Bring comfortable walking shoes for trails, and pack snacks or a picnic. Boat tours and water activities are available during summer months. Early morning or late afternoon visits offer the best light for photos and fewer crowds. How to Reach: Loch Lomond is accessible by car via the A82 from Glasgow or by train to Balloch with onward local transport. Overall, Loch Lomond is a must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking tranquility amidst Scotland’s iconic landscapes.

Lovely scenery and it's a very large area so plenty to see if you are up for a bit of a walk

A beautiful lake, which is beautiful irrespective of the time of the day. It has boating and some water sports options to engage with the environment. Very peaceful to just sit by the side of water and let the waves (yes! Waves in the lake water) entertain you for a while.

Located in the Drumkinnon Tower on the shores of Loch Lomond, SEA LIFE Loch Lomond Aquarium is a must-visit attraction. It features over 1500 sea creatures in seven distinct zones, including sharks, giant turtles, and marine mammals. The aquarium also offers touch tanks where visitors can interact with anemones, sea crabs, and starfish. Additionally, the surrounding area boasts tourist shops and stunning views of the mountainous country to the north.
Had a wee father son day out here with the laddie. It was a good day, and the Sea Centre kept him amused for a good wee while. Enjoy the wee quiz they gave us, made learning fun, and was a good way to get my son reading the information points rather than just looking at the marine life on display. We went up to the viewpoint on level 4, and this is accessible as are all floors by lift. The viewpoint would be breathtaking on a beautiful day. Unfortunately, there was a lot of overcast when we were there. Cafe also has nice views, but the menu, although relatively cheap, is limited food wise. Does, however, have the benefit of Costa in it, so coffee was good. All in all, good wee day out admission is expensive in my opinion at £40 for 1 adult 1 kid but nicely laid out and gift shop isn't expensive.

Lovely little aquarium in a stunning location! Visited with family and really enjoyed it. The ocean tunnel with sharks and rays was a definite highlight, and we loved seeing the otters and the rescued sea turtle. The touch pool was great for kids, and the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. It’s not a huge place—you can see everything in about an hour—but it’s well laid out and perfect for younger kids. The views from the café and rooftop are amazing too. Book online for a better price and it’s totally worth it!
Anoob L — Google review
Well worth a visit but not as big as you think. We thought we would be in here exploring for hours but it’s all indoors and a relatively small aquarium. It’s over 4 floors but only the ground floor is the aquarium and shop. Floor 1 is a kids cinema, floor 2 is a cafe and floor 3 is a viewing platform over the loch. The aquarium has several areas of small tanks that show you a range of fish and crustaceans from around the world. The tanks are beautifully clean and you really get to see them in all their magnificence. There is one larger tank where you can see larger sea creatures such as manta rays and see the story of a turtle that was rescued. It’s a really nice place to visit but deceptively small when compared to the building. All staff were really nice and they advised us to book online when at the till which we did as it’s cheaper than paying at the door which we never understand. Overall a great location but we explored it all in under an hour.

This aquarium is genuinely lovely, and a great break if you’ve got some classic Scottish weather on your day out. I am a wheelchair user and found the aquarium to be pretty accessible, although you can checkout my review on RollMobility for more info. Its got some rough terrain inside, the way some aquariums like to be cute and create textures like bridges and pebbles in the floor. That being said, none of it was very intense or dramatic and I was able to manage alright. They have spacious elevators throughout. You may encounter a wait for the disabled restroom given the number of families. Lots of stuff is easily viewable and *touchable * from a seated position so like I really genuinely recommend it.

Great wee day out with my girl who's just turned 7. She loves learning and got to touch a starfish in the rock pool and loved seeing all the sea creatures. Was just gutted otters weren't out but they are new and shy. Definitely a good wee afternoon to be had...but it isn't the cheapest. By time U buy tickets and the photos (if U like) and get some food it's easily 70 quid.
Chris C — Google review
Sealife Centre Loch Lomond is a great place, we visited last weekend as needed something inside due to the awaful weather. A lovely range of fish and other sea life in very well presented tanks. At £21 per adult, it is unfortunately rather on the expensive side. It would be good if they could broaden the use of the cinema, perhaps alternating between a kids thing and an adult thing, I for one would have liked a film about Loch Lomond and it's loch-life. Cafe staff were helpful with offering a gluten free alternative (tacos) for with the soup, though would be nice to have gluten free bread or rolls available.
Livi M — Google review
This is more of a kiddies experience. But it was not dull either. The Loch sea life were beautiful to behold and my favourites were the clown fishes and tiny sea horses. A good and educative experience but a bit anticlimactic.
Ebele N — Google review
Lovely place, but extreamly small. Prices were way to high for 30 minute of waking around. There is a cinema with octonouts playing, but I would recommend it for younger kids up to 7 years old. Cafe and viewing balcony were great, good localisation.

The Loch Lomond Faerie Trail in the charming village of Luss, Scotland offers a magical journey through enchanting woodlands. It's designed to ignite imagination and creativity, with hidden faerie houses, puzzles, and opportunities to learn about local flora and fauna. The trail takes about 60 minutes to complete over a mile. Visitors can pick up guide books from the South Car Park caravan before embarking on this unique adventure that combines nature exploration with mystery solving.
Pity about the rain, but we loved the trail. Easy and great pics! Also saw cooos

Took my 6-year-old and 3-year-old on this magical trail, and they absolutely loved every minute of it! From the start, we were handed a lovely little activity pack that included a pencil, a wristband, a sticker, and a booklet with a map and full of fun clues and riddles to guide us along the path. Throughout the trail, there were delightful surprises at every turn—fairy ornaments, whimsical wooden cabins and sculptures, glittering treasure chests, and charming stops where the children could solve riddles or simply explore. It really sparked their imagination and curiosity. Do note: if it’s been raining recently, I highly recommend children wear Wellington boots, as some parts can get muddy. The trail isn’t suitable for pushchairs, so little ones should be able to walk most of the way. As an adult, I also appreciated the peaceful setting, spotting different species of trees, plants, and insects along the way. It took us about two hours to complete the trail at a relaxed pace. While my 6-year-old had no trouble finishing, my 3-year-old was definitely worn out by the end—but still smiling! A fantastic outdoor experience for families with young children—highly recommended for a bit of woodland magic and adventure. The lady at the reception point was also very friendly and helpful. If you wish you can also buy fairy wands or biodegradable glitter for the kids.

This was a good walk, make sure you have suitable footwear, we bought a map from the little hut. The kids enjoyed it, helped tire them out and visited the animals at the end.

Dont bother, its a public path (dog walkers etc freely walking in) and its £££. Go to the haggis hunt instead, its free, theres a small play area and visitor centre with crafts and a lovely pub. Also staff are rude. They make you wait for your time slot....to walk a public path!! Fuming doesnt cover it

I visited the trail with my husband and our 7 year old daughter in the school holidays. We aren’t from round the area so we didn’t know what to expect. We arrived and were welcomed by a lovely member of staff who talked us through everything we needed to know. Our daughter purchased some fairy dust which was a lovely extra and we set off on our way. The trail had been well thought out . You can tell a lot of effort has gone into it! The route was well sign posted too. We all thoroughly enjoyed the trail. Lots of lovely little touches a long the way. A really lovely experience for all ages. The animals at the end were also a lovely little extra. We would recommend!! We hope to back in the future!

This isn't just for children, boyfriend and I went and had a lot of fun following the trail and filling in the booklet. Went here to break up a journey from Fort William to Carlisle as something a little different; it took is around 1 hour 10 to get round. Trail not challenging so doesn't distract from the fun. Fairy houses are beautiful and more then enough sculptures and hidden treasurest to keep it fun and interactive. Would recommend for any ages.

Nestled in the picturesque Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, Go Ape Aberfoyle is an adventure-seeker's paradise. This treetop rope course offers a thrilling experience for families and adrenaline enthusiasts alike. With one of the UK's longest zip wires, reaching over 400m and soaring 150 feet above the ground, it's a must-visit for those seeking an exhilarating challenge.
This was my first ever Go Ape experience on my birthday at the rip old age of 47... the staff we encountered were friendly and put saftey at the forefront of everything. Before moving off on our own we felt fully confident on what we were doing. The course was amazing as it started with a massive zip line and then with shaken knees and the adrenaline pumping we were off on our own. Thank you to the staff there and I look forward to our next visit

Fabulous time for all the family. Need a reasonable level of fitness to get yourself round. Nice way to get a little adrenaline rush as you head down the zip wires. Take clothes that will wash well. The mud gets engrained on the wood chip landings. The 426 meter zip line at the end is spectacular you finish and start with amazing views. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

Went with a friend to do the zipline experience. WOW! What a thrill the staff were very fun and also professional. The safety brief gave me all the confidence I needed. And the value for money is outstanding. You won't find a better thrill for the price. A 5🌟 experience for all the family. We will be back

Amazing day out we have done it for a Hen doo but friends or family day out is perfect we did the tree top challenge and axe throwing both thrilling and great fun good instructors too so much fun on the day, it was longer than w me expected too which was good 👍 weather doesn't matter as it's both fun and challenging if wet or sunny 😀

Brilliant experience from start to finish. Staff and instructors welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble - as well as being a good laugh. Great course and great to have a choice of paths and routes to take; challenging enough but not too difficult. Highlight was by far the final zip line across the gorge/valley as a reward for the effort on the course with spectacular views across Stirlingshire. Made all the better by the stunning weather and setting sun but of course, sadly Go Ape don’t have control over the conditions. Slight sticking point was having to pay for parking separately since the course sits in the Forestry park; including this in the price of the ticket might help. Thanks again - amazing experience, highly recommend and would look forward to visiting again and/or visiting another site

Absolutely great experience at GoApe! Fantastic instructor which gave us detailed training on how to use the safety equipment. The best is the entrance as well as the exit! Both are long zip lines crossing a valley. That’s amazing! The course is pretty fun with the two Tarzan swings and some other cool objects. Right next to the GoApe, there is also a nice place to walk. Could spend the entire day there and if you need a snack, they have a coffee shop!

National forest
Nestled near Aberfoyle, The Lodge Forest Visitor Centre serves as the perfect entry point to the stunning Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. Open daily from 10 am, this center is brimming with information about the local wildlife and features an engaging wildlife room complete with live video feeds showcasing native creatures and captivating films of birds of prey. With convenient amenities like parking, restrooms, and a cozy café, it’s an ideal launchpad for family adventures.
Was lucky to come here for the second time on a scorching hot day. Loads of parking - we’d spent hours at the 3 lochs drive before coming here and still managed to find a space. The ladies who were working in the visitor centre were so friendly and knowledgeable. We’d asked them for a map so we could see the 4 walking paths and decide which one(s) we were going to do. We were given a map and ended up doing 2 of the trails. The ladies were then answering random questions my 8yo had about the area and such and then they spent 5 mins teaching him about contour lines on a map and comparing it to the 4D model of the hills they had in the centre. The 2 trails we did were just lovely. We followed the white trail first which is suitable for families and wheelchairs. This takes you down to a waterfall. There are hammocks, little hobbit houses, bug houses and a little water feature the kids can play in if there’s been rain. Cafe is as you’d expect with food and prices. We brought our own packed lunch and sat on the grass near the centre to eat. Keep a look out for the mirrored silhouettes in the forest (white coloured trail), these are cool and a little eery.

It was rainy day on our visit. The center was accessible for wheelchair. There is an accessible walking route. It takes almost half an hour. You will see an impressive waterfall, is called "the burn of the fawn". My partner was able to go close by wheelchair. The center even provides a scooter for people with limitations in mobility to go on the route. Beautiful scenery!

“The Lodge Forest Visitor Centre in Aberfoyle is a beautiful gateway to Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. It offers scenic walking trails, a waterfall, wildlife viewing, and a café with panoramic views. A must-visit spot for nature lovers!”
Chathura M — Google review
A really excellent day out. We did the blue and the green trails and also stripped off at the red squirrel and bird hide where we saw 6 red squirrel and many wild birds. Plus we saw a sparrow hawk swoop down to try attack the small birds. A sparrow hawk only 3 feet away from you in full attack mode ; as Chris Packham would say “that’s why you lay your license fee”! The visitor centre is excellent also. We did stop at the cafe and it was really good food at a good price. Perhaps one or two extra vegetarian options would be appreciated. Parking is £1 for an hour or £5 for all day. Parking takes coins and card and is pay and display. All in all 5 stars.

The forest walk is fantastic, with lots to see and do. It's clearly five stars and the visitor centre is lovely. However the cafe is extremely poorly run. Even at quiet times service is poor. We waited over 20 mins for 2 cheese sandwiches and a coffee, which were at the counter despite us having been given a buzzer. Staff were rude and unapologetic. We've now been several times and had similar experiences so we won't be back there. 😞

Had a fantastic Hard Hat Tour. It was a really fascinating 1hr+, where we got taken around the entire ship and winding room. We got told all about what they are doing, what their plans are and what they have done so far. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions about the Maid and Paddle Steamers in general. It was great value at £15 and the tour group was small, with just three of us. I look forward to seeing the Maid's progress and I will visit again.

We had a lovely guided tour of the Maid Of The Lock! The tickets cost £15 each, and the tour started at 14 and lasted more than an hour. Tours are only at weekends, because during the week the volunteers are working on the ship to complete her restoration. Graham, our tour guide, was very passionate about the history of the Maid Of The Loch and entertained us with lots of interesting anecdotes and information about her. It was really instructive and fun, especially because we have never visited a ship while being restored before. We hope that the Maid Of The Loch will be back in the water again!

Beautiful historical ship , fun for adults and kids too 🤩.This is the last paddle steamer lunched on the 5th march 1953 and currently going through restoration with the help of donations from visitors, hope it will sail in the near future again ☺️ I did use Google earth to find more about its interesting history. Its free to get on board and explore, however voluntary donations helps upkeep and fund the restoration, staff volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable . There is a cafe there where you can get tea , coffee and cake and enjoy the lovely stunning view and its not expensive .. Its a very unique and beautiful places for events like Weddings and Wedding Receptions, Corporate Events, Kids Birthday Parties, and so much more! Over all if your around Balloch or loch Lomonds its a lovely place to stop by and check it out :)

Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park is a family-friendly wildlife park located just outside Stirling. It's home to over 350 exotic animals, including a unique monkey drive-thru experience. The park offers various attractions such as boating on the lake, birds of prey shows, and an adventure playground. Visitors can enjoy free activities like swan boats, go-karts, play areas, and a big slide. Additionally, there are paid options like ride tokens for additional entertainment.
Was pleasantly surprised at how lovely this place was. Very big so recommend nice comfortable walking shoes.. we took our sons buggy as well. You can utlise the BBQ area and have a BBQ lots of grills with space and loads of tables to sit and use.. or can do a picnic! They have a lovely gift shop and restaurant if you prefer to eat there as well as food vans. We had burgers and chips.. chips were lovely but burger was okay. A little pricey but that is expected at an outing like this so no surprise. They have an ice cream van too. Lovely huge park for kids to enjoy of all ages and some rides which is paid extra.. you get a token in the gift shop.. Amazings experience seeing the dinosaur walkthrough area and the enjoyed viewing the animals and the drive through safari was amazing too! Overall we had a fantastic day! I genuinely was so impressed at the safari park and how much it had to offer they is literally so much to see and do and we will be back with a bigger group this time fully experience it.

A fantastic day out!! It’s a bit hit and miss when you visit places like this in terms of how visible and active the animals are but today was perfect. We saw everything up close and wandering around from tigers to lions to giraffes and monkeys and penguins etc. The kids had an absolute ball!!! The safari park is very accessible and an easy drive if you’re using the M80. Booking tickets in advance means you can just have your QR codes scanned from the car window and you’re straight in. I recommend driving straight along through the park (all signposted very well) to the drive-thru safari before parking up and entering the park properly. There are tons of places around the park itself but the main car park has tons of space and is the most suitable for the start and end of your day. Beware the 15mph speed signs and the zebra crossings as there are families and kids all over the place and I know some of the visiting public really struggle to read, have a general impatience or simply have complete disregard for other people so please take care when driving through the park. There’s really no rush. The funfair rides are 1 token each and usually if you have a toddler and you need to accompany them they’ll still just take 1 token instead of 2 which is a great attitude to have. Five tokens is £10. The dinosaurs enclosure is quite impressive and might be a little scary for the young ones with the movements and noises but also very enjoyable for them. There is some covered tables and you can even bring your own BBQ food for the really warm days (check website to book) but there are plenty of outlets open for your burgers, coffees, ice cream etc. and some that are not always open such as pizzas etc. There is plenty to do for the kids such as the sand pits, chutes and play areas if they need a rest from wandering round the park. A tremendous day out even with a little bit of drizzle at times it does not dampen the experience at all!
David S — Google review
We had such a fantastic day out! Went with our 4-year-old niece and we all had so much fun. It was the first day of the Halloween activities, and even though we arrived around 1:00 PM, it wasn’t too busy at all. We stayed right until closing because there was just so much to see and do! Tip: start with the drive-thru part first, then park up and enjoy the rest of the day exploring. The food options were great, and there were plenty of benches if you prefer to bring your own picnic. The park is huge, so even with lots of people around, it never felt crowded.

We recently visited Blair Drummond Safari Park with the family, and it was an absolutely brilliant day out. There was so much to see and do, and it really caters to all ages. The drive-through safari was amazing, getting up close to lions, rhinos, and zebras was incredible. All the animals looked well cared for in their enclosures. For kids, the large adventure playground and the pedal boats were a big hit. A fantastic place for a family day out. Highly recommended
Muhammad B — Google review
Blair Drummond Safari Park is hands down one of the most incredible days out I’ve ever had in Scotland, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment we drove through the gates, it felt like stepping into a whole new world full of adventure, excitement, and unforgettable experiences. The safari drive-through was absolutely brilliant. Being able to see such a wide range of animals roaming in large open spaces instead of tiny enclosures was amazing. Lions lounging in the sun, rhinos grazing peacefully, zebras trotting by – it honestly felt like being on a real safari. The kids were completely blown away, and even as an adult I couldn’t help but feel just as thrilled. There’s something so special about being able to sit in your car and have giraffes, camels, and antelope so close by. But the drive-through is just the beginning. The rest of the park is packed with so much to see and do that you could easily spend an entire day here and still feel like there’s more left to explore. The chimpanzee island was a highlight – the way the park has set it up really allows you to watch the chimps climbing, swinging, and interacting naturally, which is both fascinating and heartwarming. The sea lion presentations were full of energy and fun, perfectly balanced between entertainment and education, and the bird of prey demonstrations were spectacular, showing off the incredible skills of these majestic animals. There’s also an excellent petting farm and play areas for kids, which made it a perfect family-friendly day out. The playground is huge and so well designed that the children could have spent hours there alone. For those who love rides, the amusement area is another bonus – small rides, face painting, and plenty of chances for treats like ice cream and candy floss. It really does cater to every age group. What stood out the most, though, was how well-kept and clean the park is, and how much care clearly goes into looking after the animals. Every enclosure looked thoughtfully designed to make the animals comfortable, and the staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about what they do. You can tell this isn’t just a tourist attraction – it’s a place where conservation, education, and animal welfare really matter. Food options were also great, with plenty of choice whether you want a sit-down meal, a quick snack, or to bring your own picnic. There are loads of lovely picnic spots, and the atmosphere throughout the park is relaxed and welcoming. Blair Drummond isn’t just a safari park – it’s a full day of adventure, learning, and fun for all ages. Whether you’re an animal lover, a parent looking for a fantastic family day out, or just someone who wants to experience something unique in Scotland, this is the place to go. I would give it more than five stars if I could. It’s the kind of place you’ll remember long after your visit, and one you’ll want to return to again and again.

What a magical place, we absolutely loved it. There’s a great variety of things to see and do. I can’t believe you get to go inside the lemur habitat and get so up close and personal. This experience and the train around chimp island were our favourites. The entry price is exceptionally accessible and is money well spent. The fact that you get both safari and foot entry all in one ticket makes it nice and easy; no fussy or complicated tiered systems. The food was nice and everyone working there seemed genuinely happy to be there. All in all a great job and wonderful day out.

Overall brilliant day out. Online pre booking is a great idea. Stops masses of queues on the road and in parking areas. Allows a control to people entering the park and seeing the exhibits in one go. Hugely impressive idea. Once in everything is clean, well presented and maintained. Animals look healthy and well cared for. There are a few negatives for me personally. 1) the lunch option for kids (bagged meal thing) is dreadful, you get half a sandwich, crisps, milky way and a yoghurt tube monstrosity and a juice. 2) The elephant, all on its own. It's such a shame. I don't know the background to why only one and how that came to be but in the wild they are sociable and live in family groups. 3) The Wasps!! Omg, I've literally never seen so many wasps in one location in my entire life. They are everywhere, and it's not 4 or 5, it's hundreds all through the park.
Matt W — Google review
What I thought was going to be a rubbish day, turned out to be a great day. We drive through the safari and it looked a sad affair. All animals laying down on the furthest parts from the road possible. We felt let down. We then went into the park, not thinking much of what we saw……we got closer to more animals and we started to enjoy it. We then got to see the sea lions perform and it was brilliant. It wasn’t about performing tricks, it was about educating everyone on tricks they use in the wild to survive. We then went around and enjoyed the park. The tiger talk was also impressive with Connor staying behind to talk. The staff had a real passion and you could see the animals were cared for and each home was perfect for them. We then chanced another loop in the safari and the animals were up on their feet. So my advice is, don’t write it off on first glimpse. Do it twice.

Nestled near the charming village of Doune in central Scotland, Doune Castle is a stunning medieval fortress that dates back to the 13th century. This remarkable stronghold has witnessed significant historical events, including damage during the Scottish Wars of Independence before being restored in the 14th century by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany. Today, visitors can explore its impressive architecture and rich history while enjoying audio tours narrated by Terry Jones.
So fun fact, Outlander and Monty Python was filmed in certain areas, and some of the rooms were recreated from this castle. The audio guide was great and gave you fascinating information about the history, back stories on outlander, as were as Monty Python and the holy Grail. They also sell shirts for Monty Python in the gift shop along with outlander gifts. The only negative parts is not enough parking, but in the center of town 5-11 minutes away, there is free parking, if you are walking.

Doune Castle is a fascinating and well-preserved medieval fortress that’s full of character and charm. Steeped in history, it’s also famously featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Outlander, and Game of Thrones – making it a must-visit for both history lovers and pop culture fans. The audio guide is fantastic, with fun narration that blends historical insight and a bit of humor (especially if you're a Monty Python fan!). Exploring the grand halls, towers, and courtyard feels like stepping back in time. Set in a beautiful, peaceful location, Doune Castle is easy to explore and not overly crowded. A brilliant stop that combines history, scenery, and a touch of cinematic magic.

We enjoyed walking around. We did not have tickets so we were directed to park in town. It was a lovely walk and likely best to park there in the first place and then follow the signs to the footpath. We thought it would take awhile, but it was really a rather short journey. It was not our favorite castle we visited but fun to see since we have watched Monty Python, Outlander, Outlaw King, and Game of Thrones. I actually wish we had gotten there before it opened and had been able to enjoy the grounds without the crowds. I would say if you are driving by - stop, but I wouldn't make a trip out to see just this castle.
Kym S — Google review
Beautiful castle with a lot of history and stunning views. You don’t need more than 30–40 minutes to explore it, and wearing comfortable shoes makes a big difference. Visiting during the low season is definitely the best — quiet, relaxed, and easy to enjoy every corner.
Gabi S — Google review
Here’s another great castle where several movies have been filmed, including Monty Python and the holy Grail. A great courtyard and many floors and rooms to see that are furnished, including a great hall. In the room that I am standing in front of the large fireplace next to the window, there was a scene filmed there. There is one fireplace that is so large. They say you could roast a whole cow there at one time.

We were staying in the area for a few days. Didn't have much time though, got lots of plans. But still made some time to check out the famous Doune Castle. And since we are members of Historic Environment Scotland the entrance was free of charge. The carpark was full though - so we parked on the public lot behind the Co-op in town. An easy 10 minute walk away. The Castle is famous - many will know it from Game of Thrones or Outlander. But for me - and many many others - it will always be connected to Monty Python and the Holy Grail! The Audio-guide is even narrated by Terry Jones! The way the castle looks today is largely down to ‘Scotland’s uncrowned king’. Doune was the seat of Robert Stewart, the 1st Duke of Albany and Governor of Scotland. He acquired the castle in 1361. What we see today is probably only half a castle. Whether Doune was completed, and what might have been lost, is unclear. But even what remains today is very impressive and in great shape. If you do not feel like paying the entrance, you still can enjoy the outside views and even walk around it or enjoy the grounds outside. But going in (we took turns - since we were travelling with our Bulldog) is well worth the price and time. Monty Python used the exterior for shots as well as the interior. The courtyard inside is where the wedding party was taking place with John Cleese (as Lancelot) going berserk. But there's a lot more to see inside. Besides all the big halls inside, there are lots of small corners and hideaways to be discovered. As well as a lot of history to read (or listen to). A really good visit and not to be missed for fans or history buffs! Staff was wonderful, really friendly and welcoming. Surely a highlight on this years Road Trip through the UK. Highly recommended.
Alex H — Google review
Very good. Highly recommend. Surpassed expectations. Very well preserved and detailed history storytelling. This castle was also used as a set in Outlander which you discover when playing the audio guide. Reasonably priced and good value for money. Beautiful grounds too. Small carpark. Best to go early morning. Difficult to turn into the street very tight 45° turn. Maybe best to continue to the round about and come from the other direction. Some more artifacts would be nice. However, you learn in the story a lot of their contents were designed to be quickly transported away.

We were staying in Stirling and visited Doune Castle which is 15 min away. It is famous for movies (Outlander, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Game of thrown. It was worth a visit and learn about the history. There is an audio guide which was helpful.

If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable experience on Loch Lomond, Sweeney's Cruise Co is the perfect choice. Imagine hosting your wedding aboard their luxurious flagship vessel, the Silver Dolphin, where warm teak paneling and nautical brass fittings create an inviting atmosphere for you and your guests to enjoy a delicious meal. But that's not all! Sweeney's offers delightful boat tours that allow you to soak in the breathtaking scenery of Loch Lomond.
There is a kiosk where you can buy tickets. There are one or two hour trips, I chose the two hour. The lower level has comfortable seats and gives a good view. The upper level has chairs and tables, which is fine if you are a group but awkward if you are travelling alone. You either have to invite yourself into someone else's group or hog a table to yourself. This area had a bar which also sold snacks. There is a small area outside, but this is standing room only. You do get a great view from here, but make sure you have a jumper because even on a hot day, it can feel chilly. There are toilets on board. Along the way, you are provided with interesting information about the areas you are passing. The pricing was reasonable for a two hour trip.

Joined a really nice hour long cruise onto Loch Lomond. All staff were great and boat was nice a spacious with outdoor seating upstairs and indoor seating downstairs. The boat had a wee cafe serving drinks and snacks and toilets were available too. Throughout the voyage there were audio descriptors of what we were passing on the shore. Overall a really nice cruise out onto the loch and well worth a visit.

I bought tickets for this Loch Lomond 2 hours trip on Get your Guide - I use them frequently and it’s quick and easy. The Cruise itself was brilliant , it covered a good area of the south of the lake with informative and interesting commentary. The staff were professional, friendly and very polite, And the views are stunning, I wholeheartedly recommend this tour .

An amazing relaxing journey an this huge lake which is about 23 miles. I had 2hrs tour and had a awsome time. Take your own food and munch with you and keep your camera ready for some awsome shots. Please note this tour is recommended for those who would like to have a piece and water travel.

We went on a 2 hour trip on Loch Lomond with Sweeney's Cruises. It was a perfect afternoon and an excellent way to see the Loch from a different perspective. It really made our holiday and I would tell everyone to take the time to do a trip if visiting Loch Lomond. The boat was good and the commentary was excellent it gave us an insight into the lochs history. You can have refreshments from the bar on board but we enjoyed coffee and hot chocolate before we boared at the cafe/bar on the quayside.

It was a relaxing and invigorating experience. The cruise itself was wonderful, the sights beautiful and the staff helpful. There were lots of people; children and dogs, but it was not disruptive. There was also a reasonably priced bar on board and my friends and I got hot drinks.
Ebele N — Google review
So friends and very well done commentaries! They are all pre-recorded and perfectly times so the sound quality is great and you never are struggling to hear on awkward headphones and what not. Plus each boat has a nice little snack bar for drinks and food.

Nice wee 1 hour afternoon tour. Lovely staff & thoroughly enjoyed it. Went below deck due to the weather. Don't let the rain stop you tho. Good selection of drinks on board. Enjoyed the Loch Lomond whisky & the local shortbread was awesome. You should treat yourself... Good price & dog friendly. Also the Monkey Bar (shipping container quite funky) next to the mooring with outdoor seating.

Historic Sites
Inchmahome Priory is a 13th-century monastery located on the largest of three islands in the picturesque Lake of Menteith in Scotland. Founded by Augustinian canons around 1238, this secluded island provided a peaceful retreat for worship and also served as a sanctuary for royal visitors, including Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. The priory's history includes being a site of refuge during significant events such as the Battle of Pinkie.
Such a lovely visit, especially in nice weather. Beautiful island on the ‘Lake’ of Menteith, home to the ruins of a 13th century Augustinian priory. It takes about 8 minutes by boat from Port of Menteith, operated by Historic Scotland. The small island is quite densely wooded, with ancient hazels and oaks as well as non-native sweet chestnuts (600 years old) and Victorian giant redwoods. Fantastic for birders - I saw or heard ospreys, GS woodpeckers, canada geese, nuthatches, wrens and loads of more common species. I was even told that there had been badgers and pine martens there (presumably good swimmers!). The ruins are in a relatively good state for being so old and the adapted chapter house provides shelter for some of the more ornate medieval carved gravestones. Robert the Bruce visited three times in the 1300s and Mary Queen of Scots took refuge here as a 4 year old girl. There’s even a boxwood bower said to have been planted by Mary, although the original plants (taken from Doune Castle) were probably killed by Victorian memento-hunters. Upon arrival by small boat, there is a small reception / shop building and seperate toilet block. There are paths around the shore and toward the island’s centre. The HS staff were friendly, well-informed and skilled on the boats - ask them anything! Beverley, a local, was particularly knowledgeable about the ancient history of the area. Dogs are very welcome on the boat / island. Go to the nearby Karma hotel for good drinks and food after visiting.
Alasdair B — Google review
Fabulous place, steeped in history and of particular importance for Mary Queen of Scots fans. It's a lovely walk round the island, the priory is beautiful and very atmospheric, and we were lucky enough to see the local osprey whilst we were there. The little boat trip across to the island makes us particularly special, and the staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Absolutely worth a visit.
Catherine C — Google review
We had a lovely family trip here. The boat trip is a fun twist to visiting the Priory, which my boys enjoyed greatly. Walking through the priory ruins was enjoyable. the staff were all very friendly and offered to answer questions. The walk round the island took 15-20mins (at the pace of a 3 year old!). We weren’t lucky enough to see Ospreys this time. Well worth a visit. Book in advance to ensure your space on the boat.
Katie F — Google review
This was such an amazing trip. My husband and I absolutely loved every second of it. We hadn't pre-booked tickets, so we had to wait a short while as the first boat was full. Before long, another boat came along, and we were ferried across with another couple (you can pay at the little shop on the island where the priory is). The trip over was about 10 minutes, and the scenery surrounding the lake was beautiful. Once on the island, we had a walk round and sat for a few minutes just taking in the peace and tranquillity. The priory itself is interesting (I bought a guidebook from the shop to read up about it), and the whole area is peaceful and historic. The woman ferrying us back across the lake was telling us about the area and about the history of the lake and it's surroundings, and what had been found there in the past. I found her very informative and knowledgeable about the area. All in all, it was a really enjoyable outing.
J M — Google review
The boats only hold 12 people and they only run on certain schedules. make sure you get tickets in advance. I don't like the car park where you wait for the boat as it's just a shame. there were no toilets at the parkingot. The toilets and gift shop are on the island. once you get to the island and visit the Abbey, make sure you go through the woods and take the little walk around the whole island. boats run every 45 minutes 10:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m..
Amy F — Google review
A short boat trip out to the island in the Lake of Menteith, the ruined priory occupies a peaceful location with just the sound of water lapping at the shores. We had an eagle fly over in the way out and badgers curries living in the Widows of the island. A magical trip.

Ben Lomond, a 974-meter mountain located in a national park, offers various climbing routes and is home to diverse birdlife. The area around Loch Lomond and the Trossachs boasts an abundance of wildlife, including different species of deer such as Red Deer and Sika Deer. Birdwatchers can spot Ospreys, Capercaillie, Black Grouse, and the beloved Red Squirrel in the woods.
This is an excellent trail even for a moderate level of fitness. From the moment it starts, the views along the way are simply incredible, unfolding with each step. As you climb higher, you would see the beauty of Loch Lomond and the surrounding Scottish Highlands. Summit is quite windy but views are truly spectacular. It's a must-do for anyone visiting the area and looking for a memorable outdoor adventure.

It takes 2.5 to 3 hrs to reach the top. It's totally worth it. The scenery is beautiful, just one tip to the people who are planning to hike there are 2 routes to reach the top the route which begins from left side of car park I mean which passes through a small beach , in that route near the top of Ben Lomond it gets very steep so be careful there. The right route is easy .
Wasif N — Google review
One of the most pleasant and rewarding mountain hikes I have had the pleasure of completing. Of moderate difficulty and suitable for hikers of all levels if you've got the time. The summit was very windy and 10-15C colder than the bottom, so bring layers. If you decide to do the full loop via the Ptarmigan Ridge, I recommend doing it counter-clockwise as going up the eastern side was more gradual and the path was more flat. It took us 5.5 hours to do the full loop, including a pitstop for lunch at the top.
Austin D — Google review
Definitely one of the better mountains in Scotland but it's also one of the busiest. Offer unbelievable views. The hike up needs a reasonable level of fitness though

Bagged my first Munro yesterday and it just had to be the beautiful Ben Lomond on the stunning loch Lomond. We went right up the shoulder and then down the ptarmigan ridge. Wow wow wow. It took is 4 hours to reach the summit including small breaks and a half hour stop at the top. 2.5 hours to descent, with equally amazing scenery. Highly recommend this as a first Munro. Only 281 to go 💙⛰️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My first Munro! ☺️ what a lovely and rewarding mountain hike we had. You can see Loch Lomond while you hike and the views are spectacular.
Zar N — Google review
A lovely hike for my first Munro. There's a couple of awkward spots but with a bit of care they are easily navigated. It's a continuous slope from start to finish. But the views at the top are stunning. We were lucky enough to do it with totally clear skies. If it has been raining extra care will be required as some of the rocks are slippery. It's also a busy walk so you definitely won't have the place to yourself.
Jon C — Google review
Beautiful. The climb up to the peak is very challenging and at times I thought we should turn back. But we didn’t and I’m so glad. The views from the top are breathtakingly beautiful. There are some really tricky sections on the way up which I wouldn’t have managed without my husband’s help. Be prepared, if you’re not used to tough walking this isn’t for you. But I did it and I have a mobility problem. Take your time, don’t be in a hurry. It will get your heart pumping - literally - and take as many rest breaks as you need. It took us 8.5 hours to go to the peak and back down again, but we had allowed for that time. So glad we did it.

The surrounding area features walking paths, ideal for leisurely strolls, as well as inviting picnic spots along the eastern shore where visitors can admire the local wildlife and serene aquatic plants.
Super! Very nice lake. The surroundings is beautiful. Lake is much bigger then it looks 😉

The only reason to see this lake is because of its unique name in Scotland where all other bodies of water are called lochs. Lake of Menteith is a quiet place for water sports, especially swimming. It isn’t easy to get close to the water other than a small woodland car park which allows a short hop across the road to the banks of Menteith. We didn’t stay too long but at least can say we’ve seen it!

We stayed in one of the newly refurbished A Frame Apartments, and from the minute we stepped in the front door the whole place was outstanding... The full width and height sliding doors do perfect justice to the incredibly beautiful lake and mountain views... We have been here many times and stayed in both the cabins and the apartments and we are always still astonished at how fantastic the view is... It changes from hour to hour and the wildlife is all around....the apartment itself is great with all mod cons and everything you need for your break... Nice personal touches such as the woodwork expertly carved and finished by Chris... All in all a fabulous place to stay and we cannot recommend it highly enough...

Scotland's only lake! Although... that's what people usually assume. There are, however, nine other "lakes" in Scotland. This body of water's alternative name is Loch Inchmahome, and until the early 19th century, its Scottish name was Loch of Mentieth. The lake is known for the ruins of Inchmahome Priory, the monastery where Mary, Queen of Scots, sought refuge in 1547.

Really really liked this park, although I highly advise you take a picture of the route on the information board as we nearly got lost. There are so many twists and turns but the colour coded posts really helped us out. We went the green route round the lochan and it was really peaceful and seen a bunch of blue dragonfly on our way round, clegs were a bit of annoying but they are everywhere at the moment. Highly recommend the green route if you're looking for a walk with water and lasts around an hour, we were around 50 mins. Just a nice addition there is a bench to have lunch with a nice view over the Lochan.

We done the Duke's walk (blue trail) it was an easy enough walk. The little bit at the start got the heart pumping but we really enjoyed it. It's a great walk for the dog both on and off lead. You did need to cross the road twice on this trail, but the road was so quiet so not an issue. Unfortunately today we didnt see any of the red squirrels but that was a first, and to be honest we were too busy chatting to make a conservative effort to find them and we probably scared them away. This is a fantastic place to visit with or without children. There is always plenty to see. The lady in the shop was very helpful. It is also much easier to pay for parking in the shop using your bank card rather than having cash on you (I never seem to have enough cash) parking is currently £3 all day.

Loved the quick walk around the Castle. Not enough time to do the full tour so we will be back to visit the Castle and town. A lovely gem of a location.

A must-see on your tour through Scotland. Friendly staff and a great tour guide to show you through the available rooms. Take advantage of the tea shop for a nice light lunch. Parking was ample, and the gardens are beautiful to stroll through, even in the rain. So happy we stopped.

Hands down one of the best castles in Scotland, proper fairy tale castle stuff! Award winning gardens, the armoury hall has the tallest ceiling in a house in Scotland at 21m, great cafe too! See our full video review on our experience under The Olive Tree Family on all social media platforms.

Beautiful castle and gardens, well worth the admission fee . Wished we'd have gone earlier in the day though to allow ourselves more time to walk up to the watch tower, and the working farm . We'll definitely be back again to complete the walks. And must say the Tea rooms and homemade cakes etc. Were excellent 👌

Coach House Coffee Shop and Store is a popular spot in Luss, offering a wide range of local and Scottish delicacies. It's known for its cozy atmosphere, making it the perfect place to warm up after exploring Loch Lomond. The cafe serves delicious scones with jam or whipped cream alongside a comforting cup of tea. In addition to their delectable cakes, they also offer soups, sandwiches, and an assortment of hot beverages.
Little gem of a cafe near Loch Lomond. Me and my family randomly found this place and decided to have a look. We ended up dining in and having a lovely lunch. The tomato soup was really nice and had so much flavour. The serving size was quite big and good value for money. The service was fantastic, the waitress highlighted to us that one of the soups had ham in it which we couldn’t eat, this was really nice of her to inform us. Overall a really lovely place to take family. The surroundings are quite homely and the food is fresh and home made. After we ate, we went for a stroll on Loch Lomond banks which was a great way to end our lunch :)

Great little cafe just up from the water. It has indoor and shaded outdoor seating. A wide menu for all tastes. It's got a small gift shop inside and is dog friendly, even providing complementary dog treats and water.

Best scone of my life👍. I had as well the haggis, on oir last day in Scotland, and that's totally palatable from a french point of view. Very simple dish served with mashed potatoes and melted cheese that reminds me of the aligot in Clermont Ferrand. Service is excellent, friendly waitresses, but it comes with a hefty price tag. That's the cost of reputation. Bad surprise, I got a penalty for not parking my motorcycle properly. An expensive brunch indeed.

What a great find whilst visiting Loch Lomond and stopping over in Luss. Very friendly staff, quick service, very dog friendly and lovely garden where we could eat our take away. Three choices of soups and the carrot and parsnip was homemade, hot and really tasty. Served with a slice of crusty bread. My husband had a stokie ( filled bap) which was really good. We highly recommend this cafe.

Cruise Loch Lomond Ltd offers a variety of ways to explore the stunning Loch Lomond. From VIP boat trips to island hopping excursions, visitors can enjoy live commentary on Viking and clan history while taking in the breathtaking scenery. With departure points at Balloch, Luss, Tarbet, and Inveruglas, there are plenty of opportunities to embark on a cruise and admire the bonnie banks from different perspectives.
We enjoyed it so much we did it twice! First we took the ferry to Balmaha and back (via Conic Hill and the Millennium Forest Park). The commentary was fun and informative. The following day we took the round cruise from Tarbet, with plenty of historical tales from the pilot, John. We were blessed with beautiful weather for the end of September and the crew on both ferries made it even sunnier 🌞⛴️

We had a lovely experience with the company. We booked a circular tour and it was £18, very reasonable. Because the boat was quite full they decided to split us in half and they run an extra shift. I thought it was really nice. The person leading the cruise was really great, the only problem we had I couldn't hear what he was saying because the speakers on the open deck didn't work. Facilities were nice and clean and you can get drink on board. I would highly recommend it.

Brilliant Cruise from Balmahra on Loch Lomand. We would absolutely recommend, for a great 90 minute circular cruise with the most breathtaking views. Child and Dog friendly. Lots of refreshments available too. The staff were lovely and welcoming along with the Skipper who gave a great commentary. A brilliant day!

Our circular cruise today onboard the Lomond Princess was 5 star! You can book ahead or pay onboard. We booked ahead and showed our QR code. Dogs are allowed on board. Passengers get on and off at various stops, so it's easy to move around and try different seats inside (below) or on top. There is a small bar to get drinks or snacks. We had perfect weather, a pleasant crew, and enjoyed the narration by the captain.

Loch Lomond is absolutely stunning! We stopped here on our road trip from Glasgow and were blown away by the views of the mountains and the loch. There's a great cafe nearby where we enjoyed coffee with an amazing view. We even saw a man in traditional Scottish dress playing music, which was a real treat! Highly recommend stopping here if you're passing by. There's also convenient parking available.

Wonderful, relaxing way to see Loch Lomond & surrounng scenery. We did the 90 mins Balmaha Circular stopping at Luss & return. Skipper John & guide Darren we're very personable, excellent informative commentary, stopping to view Osprey in their nests on the way. Playing a recording of 'The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond' during the commentary while passing the scenery made it charming & even more special. Highly recommended, good value.

1hr cruise was just right. The tour guides were cool. Some funny stories and it was an enjoyable day with beautiful weather. The boat has interior and exterior seating. There's a nice little tea room, coffee, sodas and shortbread snacks available on board. I couldn't recommend this more because the staff make it really fun.

Great wee drive around beautiful scenery. Should be £3 but the meter wasn't working so free. It's a dirt/gravel road so take your time. Hundreds of places to stop. Also an ice cream shack near the end which was excellent
William P — Google review
Absolutely loved this quiet forest road/track. Easy to find & sign posted. There is a 10MPH limit, which is great as you slowly meander around the forest & can stop to admire the view. There are numerous pull in places & places to park so you can explore the forest on foot

Beautiful place to go out for a sunny day barbecue and have fun with kids in the shore of lochs. Off course you can do a lot water activities like kayaking swimming etc. the place is kind of reserved and under forest preservation. The road is not good inside its raw so on sunny days its so dusty. Not that far from Glasgow. Bug usually busy if its sunny. Some places are nice to have camping.

Kyle is an absolute star and asset to this company. He took two middle aged adventure seekers on the most wonderful canoe tour around the Loch Lomond islands. His knowledge of the area is fabulous, he is technically exceptionally competent and great company. The icing on the cake was seeing one of the elusive wallabies! A definite tour to be repeated next time we are in the area. Thank you Kyle.

We stayed for a week in August 2025 and had the most perfect week of weather. We had great communication from Freda in advance of our stay and arrived at 4pm to a warm welcome and the stunning view. Freda, David and their family made us feel so welcome and were really friendly. The accommodation was perfect for us with all rooms overlooking the view. The bedrooms are generous and comfortable and the kitchen and sitting room make for a very comfortable stay. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cooking equipment. We had a speedboat tour with Chris and hired kayaks on another day which made the experience even more magic. We've decided to book again for new year and are looking forward to our return to one of our favourite places.

We’ve had a fantastic time kayaking on loch Lomond. All the equipment, useful info and guidance was provided to us. Chris was very welcoming and accommodating. The lake is stunning. Keep in mind you will get muddy getting in/off the kayak. Other than that it was all perfect! There is a free parking, toilet and changing facilities. Hire place is located at a local farm.

Took the kayaks out for 2 hours and had a great time! They were very responsive, there to greet us exactly on time with the kayaks all ready, and the kayaks were all in good condition. Highly recommend!
Kaspar L — Google review
We had an amazing experience on the private speed boat tour with Portnellan Farm! Our captain, Chris, was absolutely wonderful, so friendly, accommodating, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area (he grew up right on Loch Lomond!). He shared great stories, gave us an exciting and fun ride around the Loch, and showed us some truly stunning views. I have to assume that this was so much better than the group tours that leave from the main ports (and not much more expensive when you have a group). Having a private boat made the experience feel personal, relaxed, and unforgettable. If you’re deciding between the big tours or this, definitely go with Portnellan Farm's Private Tours. And if you can’t make it all the way up to Loch Ness, don’t worry, Loch Lomond is every bit as beautiful, especially when you’re out on the water. We couldn’t recommend this experience more highly!
MeiLee L — Google review
2 double kayaks for two hours, amazing location, and at a great price. Chris and the young lad helping were ace at keeping everything organised and on time. Whilst the price was great, the location for the kayaks was the highlight!! Stiff 40 min kayak to the restaurant at Inchmurran. Would suggest the half day option if want to do that and spend some time there.

Leaving a review based on the kindness of Suzanne!! We didn’t get to complete our booking because I broke my tailbone a week before; however, she was so patient and informative while I was trying to decide if I would be able to make it! She even offered alternatives and gave details that were helpful for my injury. Very sad we didn’t get to go but her customer support is beyond comparable!

We had a fantastic experience with Loch Lomond Pony Trekking. Susann was absolutely wonderful from the moment we arrived. She took us on a private trek and made us feel completely at ease. Safety is clearly a top priority for her, both for the riders and for the horses. What really stood out was the incredible care she gives to her ponies. They are so well looked after, and their wellbeing always comes first. The ponies themselves were the most well mannered we have ever come across. They were calm, gentle and beautifully trained. It is rare to see animals this well cared for and so clearly happy in their work. The scenery was stunning, and the whole experience felt relaxed, personal and very special. If you are looking for a responsible and memorable way to explore the area, this is not to be missed.

Amazing experience run by a family business right by Loch Lomond. Suzanne is an entertaining host and all her ponies are well trained. The whole experience lasted about 2 hrs total - we got plenty more pony time than what’s marketed (lucky us!). The groups are intimate as well - they book only 4 people per session, so I felt comfortable riding even with the covid situation. Not sure what the other reviews said about just walking up a hill - the views were spectacular and we had a photo opp too. I got my pony to trot a bit as well, which was fun :) Will be coming back - worth the price in my opinion.

Conic Hill is a fantastic destination for families who enjoy hill walking. This small but mighty hill stands at 361m high and offers stunning 360-degree views, particularly across Loch Lomond and as far as the Arrochar Alps. The walk begins at a large public car park in the village of Balmaha, which is accessible by cars and buses from nearby Drymen.
Quite steep but easy if you take your time and prepare properly, took around two hours to get up and down again. Cracking views across the south side of Loch Lomond from as low down as halfway, on a clear day you can see for miles. Easy parking for a small price at the start of the trail.
LM — Google review
We were staying in Stirling and went on a day trip to see this area. We decided last minute to climb Conic hill since it wasn’t raining. It was rewarding climb to the summit with spectacular panoramic views across Loch Lomond and the islands. There were sheep in the pasture. It was very windy at the summit!
Catherine H — Google review
Absolutely stunning views, worth every single step. We were very lucky with the weather, so the trail was mostly dry, but it can definitely get and stay a bit muddy after rain. The first part of the ascent goes through a forest area. The steepest part is toward the very top of the hill, on a path that heads off to the right from one of the viewpoints up to the highest viewpoint. Much recommended for hiking enthusiasts!

Sights & Landmarks
Historical landmark
Stirling Castle, perched majestically atop Castle Hill, is a stunning 12th-century fortress that once served as a royal palace for Renaissance monarchs. Its diverse architectural styles and impressive entrance featuring a statue of Robert the Bruce create an unforgettable first impression. The castle grounds boast several buildings from the 15th and 16th centuries, alongside remnants from the 14th century and outer defenses dating back to the early 18th century.
My wife and I went first thing in the morning when it opened at 930am. on a Saturday. The castle was wonderful and rich in history. We did not have a tour guide, just walked around ourselves and enjoyed the beauty and architecture of this historical place. The views are stunning. About a 17-minute uphill walk from the train station, and it seemed way faster on the way down, like 5 minutes. It's worth exploring and enjoying the excellent and magnificent history Scotland has to offer. It also has a few gift shops around the location and also toilets which is a plus. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Don't forget your Stirling Castle Magnets!
Nick H — Google review
A steep climb up the hill got us to the Castle. You don't have to walk, there's a carpark by the gate and a shuttle bus service. Buy tickets in advance and save some money. Trying this on my mobile was problematic and I never managed to get it to work. But the nice lady at the Castle sorted it out for me. The good bits, all of the buildings are impressive. The views from the terraces outside even more so. The interiors are spectacular with ornate carvings and wonderful wall decorations. See the restored kitchens and the reconstruction of the interior. It's obvious that a great deal of effort has been made to present a good visitor experience. One of the best bits was a couple of ladies roleplaying different people from history. More of this could be a great thing. Well worth a visit.
Firu T — Google review
Absolutely stunning castle. We'll preserve and very good historical information presented clearly. I didn't get the audio tour and I think that was a good choice. Though I'm sure they provide good information. Wasn't so crowded you couldn't see what you wanted as long as you avoided the huge bus tours. Have I mentioned it was beautiful? It truly was. Very memorable.
Sophie S — Google review
Honestly we did not have great expectations going in, especially because of the pricey admission... Yet we were so pleasantly surprised! What a beautiful castle. We got in at 1pm thinking we'd stay there a couple of hours, and in the end, they had to kick us out because they were closing for the day. Special mention to our wonderful tour guide, who made the afternoon so enjoyable. 10/10 would recommend
Gaia V — Google review
Decided to stop by this Castle just before going to the seal beach which is about 10 min south. Nice little hike up to the castle with breathtaking views from the cliffs and the ocean. The hike does get a little muddy so be careful on the walk up but there is also lots a large rocks and pebbles to help with the terrain. It’s an old empty castle that you can walk in and around. Just follow the path from the car park it does take about 8-10 min of walking to get there.
MSG M — Google review
Overall this castle visit was an amazing experience. From friendly staff to live actors, it was very immersive. I highly recommend a visit. We were quite disappointed that we weren't allowed in the car park because we have a short wheel Base van which is about 5.5 metres- even though our van is shorter than a range rover and there were also other vans in there.
Jemima H — Google review
Stirling Castle's carpark more than enough spaces. Very reasonable prices for entry. Here we have close to 1000 years of history, surrounded by stunning scenery. There are interactive learning rooms within the castle. Exploring the whole castle will take some time, and well worth the effort. The scenery from the Castle is amazing, even on this rainy day. Will you be able to spot Sir William Wallace's monument? So get yourself here and enjoy what Stirling castle has to offer, you won't be disappointed.

Stirling Castle On Wednesday, 17 September 2025, Robert and I decided to visit Stirling Castle. We had chosen to spend a week in Scotland while our son, Kiro, was settling into his university accommodation at Stirling University. We love sightseeing, so we rented bikes and rode up to the castle. We had read a little about its history, but honestly, we weren’t overthinking our expectations. What we saw was absolutely incredible. Please make sure you allow plenty of time to visit this fantastic place. We spent about three hours there, and only left because it closed at 6 pm, but honestly, you need as much time as possible to enjoy this wonderfully preserved castle. There is so much to see and even more to hear. We were fortunate enough to join a castle guide who led us around and shared the history with so much humour and detail. His strong Scottish accent kept us all entertained, it was both funny and informative. The lady standing next to me, who was from Chile, admitted she didn’t understand a word but said she was enjoying herself nonetheless! So thank you to the lovely guide (whose name I unfortunately can’t remember) and to the rest of the staff at Stirling Castle, who were professional, organised, and welcoming, even with the crowds of visitors. The views from the castle are immaculate and breathtaking, and the gardens are also beautiful. Sadly, it was raining on the day we visited, so we couldn’t fully enjoy the gardens but even so, it was still a truly memorable day. This castle is a treasure, immaculate, full of history, and so worth the visit.

Glasgow Science Centre is a top science and technology museum in Scotland, known for its interactive exhibits, planetarium, IMAX theatre, and cafes. With around 300 hands-on science exhibits spread across three floors, visitors can enjoy an educational and entertaining experience. The center also features a Planetarium that offers insightful shows. Visitors can engage in various physical and endurance tests while learning about upcoming scientific topics such as Big Data.
Great day had by the family at the science centre! Lots of interactive activities to get brains of all ages ticking. Lots of areas in different STEM topics, all of which we enjoyed! On top of the entry tickets, we also booked tickets for the kids planetarium show which came at a small additional charge, but would recommend as it was brilliant.

Glasgow Science Centre is a wonderful museum that presents science in a fun and engaging way for all ages. It helps children understand what they learn at school through practical and interactive experiences. The centre has diverse sections that keep everyone entertained and curious. I highly recommend visiting it for anyone coming to Glasgow, Scotland

Brilliant day out at Glasgow Science Centre! We had such a great time, with our 6 year old daughter, there’s loads to see and do for all ages. The interactive exhibits kept everyone entertained for hours, and it’s clear how much effort goes into keeping everything engaging and educational. The staff were friendly and really helpful, and IMAX 3D cinema was a highlight. It’s one of those places where you can easily spend the whole day without getting bored. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Glasgow, whether you’ve got kids or you’re just a big kid yourself!

Benmore Botanic Garden is a breathtaking 120-acre paradise located in the picturesque Cowal Peninsula, within Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. This enchanting garden boasts an impressive array of plants from around the globe, with rhododendrons taking center stage alongside majestic redwoods. Visitors can explore peaceful walking trails that meander through vibrant floral displays and lush greenery, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers.
I had a wonderful time visiting Benmore Botanical Garden. The setting is absolutely stunning, with a wide variety of trails perfect for hiking and exploring. The grounds were spotless, with no litter anywhere, which really added to the sense of being surrounded by unspoiled beauty. The gardens themselves are breathtaking, with so much to see and enjoy, whether you’re wandering through towering redwoods, exploring quiet pathways, or simply taking in the incredible views. There’s also a small café and shop on site, both of which were welcoming and provided a nice place to pause and refresh during the visit. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I would highly recommend Benmore Botanical Garden to anyone who enjoys nature, peaceful walks, and beautiful scenery.

Benmore Botanic Garden is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places we’ve ever visited. Tucked in the hills near Dunoon, it feels like stepping into another world — towering redwoods, trickling streams, and endless paths winding through lush green landscapes. We walked beneath massive trees that made us feel tiny, crossed little stone bridges, and paused often just to listen to the sound of birds and running water. The Avenue of Giant Redwoods near the entrance is breathtaking — straight, tall, and awe-inspiring — but every trail leads somewhere new and equally magical. It was actually closed to walk on when we went, but you can still admire it! There are benches and viewpoints scattered throughout, perfect for picnics or quiet breaks, and the small café at the entrance is lovely for a warm drink after exploring, though our kids opted for ice cream. Peaceful, wild, and full of wonder — Benmore Botanic Garden is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and beautiful walks.

Gorgeous gardens full of amazing trees, ferns and other plants. Huge area covered (some closed off due to storm damage) and paths wind in and out everywhere. Think you’d need a fair few trips to explore all of it. Nice cafe, gift shop and a pizza van that does the absolute best pizza!! Definitely worth a visit and we’ll be back

Absolutely beautiful place devided for gardens from different parts of the world. Lot's of paths to walk. Lovely shop and cafe. Will definitely be back there again.

Absolutely beautiful place. There are new things to see round every corner. I was glad to follow the orange route, which was mostly flat and easily accessible. The food in the cafe was delicious. We had the grilled ham and cheese sandwich and the BLT wrap. We arrived before it opened, so parking was easy. It appeared that people may have had more difficulty parking later on as the carpark was full. I would very much recommend this place. We couldn't stop saying 'wow' at the beautiful views.

Went horse riding with them. Nice 2 hours...enjoyed it very much. Annika was very knowledgeable and very friendly. Wish we could have gone down to the loch shore but the forest path was very nice as well. Can deffinatly recommend it!

Booked a 20m pony trek to break up the journey back home for the kids- they absolutely loved it! Beautiful scenic trot along the loch, really personable and friendly service - the kids chatted happily about Santa and their Christmas presents! The horses were happy to be petted and the experience wasn’t rushed at all. Already planning our next visit.

Very well loved and cared for pony's and clean establishment. A very sedate trek through Woodlands. My daughter and I are established riders and were obviously given pony's for beginners (I have not ridden a pony that small for a long time which I did say Amber was small but they insisted she was a great pony for me). One of the staff trekking with us was very friendly and a pleasure to hack with but the other lady was not so friendly and talked down to us in a rude manner with instructions as if we were inexperienced and she kept having to tap my daughter's pony with the whip to make it move. Excellent place for novice riders but if you are a competent rider (which we made quite clear we were when filling out the online form) don't expect anything more. We were also expecting a loch side hack but it was a woodland trail which was still good but not as advertised. It would've been nice to have had a little trot or canter but that was not to be.

Huge expanse of parkland to explore with stunning scenery. Some paths can be muddy or rocky but for the most part paths are easy to walk on. Lots wildlife to spot as well for those with a keen eye. Visitor centre has toilets and coffee shop so you can easily spend a whole day wandering, cafe in garden centre at walled garden also. I was there for 4hours and covered 10 miles but still never saw the whole park.

Haven't been up to the park in a few years, but it's great to see how well maintained it still is. A favourite walk of my old dog (now passed over) my little ones are not keen on long country walks. However this was a lovely dry walk and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Great to sit in the courtyard with a coffee afterwards

Great country park plenty of miles of paths taking you off in all directions we usually start up at top and work our way around. Garden centre, cafe’s, coffee shops, play-parks, toilet facilities, picnic benches, plenty of car parking.. even an observatory and much more. Miles of paths taking off in every direction over fields, through woodlands and across marshland. The Castle ruins are a must see whilst visiting too. The park is different depending on the season you come. Different wildlife and vegetation bursting into life.
LM — Google review
A fantastic place to visit! The ruins are beautiful — they could easily be used as movie sets. One of them is accessible, while another is deliberately left unrestored to provide a habitat for wildlife like bats, which is just great! There’s no entrance fee, and parking is available too. A wonderful spot for a walk and some history — highly recommended!
Peter M — Google review
To be honest we just went out for a drive heading into the Campsies and saw the sign for here so decided to stop and also walk the dogs. We parked in the east car park which was a little bit away from the visitor centre but still ideal for the dogs to stretch their legs. The visitor centre was quite busy even though it was just midweek on a Wednesday at end of July. I had hoped to get some wildlife photos here but there wasn’t much going on although it was quite peaceful away from the centre.

Fun Fun Fun! a must visit with your family. We were lucky to get good weather end of July for Quad bike experience with a family of 4. My youngest kid(10 years) had the best time. very safe track, and the lead trainer Ed, was helpful and patient with us. All equipment is provided and we dint get any mud on us. Only thing is we felt we were short on time. Safety was primary and we felt more confident throughout. They have a lot more activities and we wished we had more time to try a few more. The drive there was simply beautiful and many holiday homes around incase you want to stay longer.

We had a gift from wonderful friends in Whitstable for a water sports experience. The weather was fantastic, but in Scotland you can’t book the weather! Our three granddaughters and their Dad had a ball. The instructor help them to show their ability level in a very friendly and helpful manner. Then further in the session he helped them to try just that bit harder and suggested more difficult tips and tricks. A very exhausting afternoon of wet play. There were Canadian canoes, single canoes and kayaks and SUP. Excellent afternoon and great fun. Please always play safe in on or under the water.

While some visitors appreciate the nostalgic experience and the opportunity to explore historic toys, others note that the display includes golliwog toys without context on their controversial history.
Brilliant and huge collection of toys and collectibles steeped in nostalgia from decades past. From the moment you enter the store you are faced with so many items from the toy world. We’ve stayed at Wellsfield a few times now on our vacations, and it has been excellent every time. It offers enough space for our family, meaning we can book multiple cabins near each other, host our local friends for small gatherings, and have meals at home to save money and relax. It’s a quick drive to many landmarks, both Edinburgh and Glasgow, and allowed us to easily explore. We will continue to stay at Wellsfield on any future trips to the area.

Alot of great local walks. Staff were friendly and attentive. Arrived early and was able to check In straight away which was nice.

Myself and my daughter have had an entirely dreadful experience with the equestrian side of this business. The riding school is very busy and extremely disorganised. I gave this business the benefit of the doubt several times with their “booking” system and even tried to block book lessons during the week, same time every monday, and still there was issues with them not having horses ready, or moving my daughter into group lessons if it suited them, but also negative comments made and tuts and sighs. Avoid this place if you are a looking to learn to ride especially if inexperienced or not confident. I have seen “senior” members of staff speak to young riders in a very impatient manner. AVOID. My daughter and I have taken our business elsewhere and wish we had done it earlier.

The Devil's Pulpit is a captivating natural attraction near Loch Lomond, featuring a narrow stream winding through towering rock formations. The site's unique geological features and mysterious red-hued water carved through the rocks make it an intriguing destination for adventurous souls. Accessible via steep stone stairs, this rugged labyrinth offers a glimpse into nature's enigmatic beauty. It is one of the favorite local natural sites and provides an opportunity for hiking and exploration amidst its dramatic landscape.
Wonderful, hidden place for a whole family to enjoy. It's true that the stairs are a bit dangerous, so be careful. But apart from that the place is simply breathtaking. There's a small parking space nearby, so finding a place for your car shouldn't be a problem. The path is clearly visible, so just follow it along the road from the parking. Enjoy!
Krzysztof M — Google review
Stunning place but the stairs was a mission to find. This was our second attempt, last time we couldn't find parking. There's a small car park on the corner which was pretty empty at 9.30 on Saturday morning. If you are facing the carpark, take the busy road on the right and walk down towards the bridge ( left sized of the road) After the bridge there's a small opening in the fence, from there you keep walking straight until you find the stairs down. Beware. It was a bit challenging in some places but the place is definitely worth exploring. My 8 years old could do it with some help.
Edina V — Google review
Fun, quick adventure in a stunning landscape. The entrance down is not the most sturdy and should not be tried by anyone that has trouble walking. What you'll find at the end is worth it! I recommend wearing shoes you don't mind getting a little wet and go early since there is not a ton of parking.

It was a really amazing experience there. Very beautiful place and the way will last forever in your heart. One should experience this once in a life. Yamini B — Google review
Beautiful place. Limited parking but a lovely walk with or without a trip down into the gorge. It was very steep and very slippy when I visited and I did not get all the way down. But a magical walk.
Laura S — Google review
Spectacular gorge, ferns growing down the side, trees at the top. Beautiful in Autumn. Didn't go down the steps to the actual pulpit, but my son and grandson did, said it wasn't too slippery, and incredible down the bottom of the gorge. Really worth a visit, but heed the signs, wear good waterproof boots, and pay close attention to the path edge - it goes very close to the edge in places. Parking isn't easy - there's a pull in for three cars nearby. It's free. Only downside is the litter left by others. It had been collected and bagged, but there were huge quantities.
Jeremy J — Google review
Make sure to wear non-slippery shoes when visiting, since some of the steps are broken and uneven. Once you get past that, the place feels absolutely magical and is worth the effort. I’d recommend not bringing kids, as the path isn’t very safe for them.
AMIR M — Google review
Beautiful spot for a walk. From the carpark, I went to the left and down a steep hill. Needed waterproofs to walk through the waterway, as it got over knee deep. From The parking area if you walk down the road on the right, an by the bridge, there is a metal gate which will be easier to access .

Aberfoyle Bike Hire & Cafe is a convenient spot for those looking to explore the National Number 7 Cycle path, as it's located close to the village. In addition to offering bike rentals and repairs, they also have a cafe on-site. The shop provides maps and local insights into various routes, making it an ideal stop for cyclists exploring Aberfoyle and the Trossachs area.
We booked two gravel bikes for the RatRace Coast2Coast, which demands super solid bikes that are able to take a beating. I cannot express how well Nick and the shop delivered on all parameters! The communication and service was fast and reliable, even though we had some custom needs. They even lend us a bike rack + a lock and gave us plenty of flexibility. I would rate this place a 10 out of 5 and cannot express how much we appreciate the service.

Great service, delicious tea and cake. While we had cake and tea, the owner repaired my girlfriends bike. The mount of the backrack of her bike was integrated in the sadleclamp. That broke during our coast 2 coast tour. Gladly we arrived at Aberfoyle Bike Hire repairshop. The owner helped us on our way. THANX....

I hired a gravel bike for a two-day trip along the John Muir Way. The communication and booking process was very straightforward. The hire cost was great value for money. The bike itself was well maintained and was a good spec. On the day of collection the weather was poor so the shop had to close but Nick contacted me via email to arrange collection at any time that was suitable. He was even kind enough to help me load the bike into the back of the car. All in all a great service!

Had a great experience with Aberfoyle Bike Hire. The owner was super friendly and welcoming- took the time to get my partner and I sorted with everything we needed before we set off. The bikes were spot on, and we even grabbed a super nice coffee from the shop before heading out. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Good value, nice bikes and great service. Hired a XL gravel bike, which turned out to be full carbon, provided with helmet, spare tube, pump etc at no extra cost. Bike was well maintained. Completed the Loch Katrine loop of 35 miles and this bike was ideal with wide tyres for the rougher road conditions.
Brian S — Google review
Hired a gravel bike from here for a Tuesday - Nick was flexible about sorting out pickup and drop-off despite them being closed that day. Nick was also super helpful with trail suggestions. Bike was pretty much what I expected for the price. Components were all mid-high end and well-maintained. Had a bit of a freak accident with the rear axle dropping out but I don't think any amount of maintenance could've prevented it and Nick was very apologetic when I dropped the bike back. Aberfoyle is absolutely amazing and I've never ridden anything like it. Will definitely be back.
Dougal D — Google review
Rented two hybrid bikes for the whole day for 30£ each. We did the booking via phone one hour before picking up the bikes. It is possible to return the bikes after closing hours with prior arrangement. Extra equipment was also free of charge (bike helmets, repair and patching kit and bicycle bags). Staff, especially the young lad, was very friendly. I can only recommend.
Manuela K — Google review
Nick was pointed out to us when we stopped by a campsite when we had problems with one of our bikes. Despite being on his day off he offered to take the bike to his bike shop and fix it. What an absolute hero. His kindness, help and going over and beyond is remarkable and was incredibly appreciated by us as we might have been stuck otherwise.

Puck's Glen is a must-visit attraction located in the Cowal Peninsula near Dunoon, easily accessible for those traveling from Gourock near Glasgow. Nestled within the Argyll Forest Park and close to the renowned Benmore Botanic Garden, it offers a mesmerizing spectacle of lush greenery with towering ferns, moss-covered rocks, and an array of native trees.
Simply the most amazing place I’ve ever visited! I can’t believe how beautiful it is. Trail consisting of waterfalls is out of the world. It’s like you go to fairytale. Most places that offer less, charge for entry. You definitely need to visit Puck’s Glen if you around. I can write so much about my visit, but you definitely need to go there to see how beautiful it is. I would recommend and I would encourage everyone to go there. You will not regret visiting such a magical place.
Ross M — Google review
Puck’s Glen feels like stepping straight into a storybook. Tucked away just outside Dunoon, this magical gorge walk winds through moss-covered rocks, tumbling waterfalls, and twisting stone steps that lead ever deeper into the forest. It’s one of the most atmospheric walks in Scotland — shaded, cool, and full of that enchanted feeling you can’t quite put into words. Every turn reveals another tiny cascade or ancient tree draped in green. Even on a misty day, it’s stunning (maybe even more so). The trail is well-marked but can be steep and slippery in places, so good shoes are a must. We looped back along the gorge track because of storm damage causing trees to fall on the trail. If you love fairytale forests, trickling streams, and places that feel hidden from time, Puck’s Glen is one of Scotland’s most unforgettable short walks.

Totally magical. Arrived on a dark and wet afternoon, which just made the place more atmospheric! Like walking into a Middle Earth film set! Slippy underfoot in places, so take care. I found the biggest hazard, though, was being transfixed by the sights and sounds around me and forgetting to look where I was going! It took us 7 hours to get there. Definitely worth it!
Kath C — Google review
Great walk with stunning views. The waterfalls are beautiful to look at. The walk can get quite steep and some of the path is close to the edge. Kids will struggle and could fall. I took two children the whole route and both managed to survive.
Red G — Google review
Important before you visit, The lowest section of the Puck's Glen Gorge trail is closed due to dangerous fallen trees. Opens back up on April. You can still follow the trail up the way through woodlands and the gorge, plenty of spectacular scenery, Ideally should come after a raining spell so there will be various waterfalls to see. There is no toilets here but there is a public one about 3 miles away. Parking is free.
Scotty — Google review
Absolutely magical! Kept expecting to see fairies! Small size car park which can get really full, and options of two walks. The shorter walk is about a mile and a half all the way around. Good footwear is recommended as part can be narrow and slippery even on a dry day. Google maps will NOT help on this walk so know your route as markings are not clear. We started to the left of the information board and there are a LOT of steeps some of which are REALLY STEEP, and the woodland path on the way back (which brings you out to the right of the board) is a dirt path which is a steep decline on the way back to the car park. No matter how many reviews you read on here it will not do it justice to just how beautiful it is.
Maggie W — Google review
I've been on a lot of walks but this is one of the prettiest. It's just stunning. You walk alongside the river which has many small waterfalls along the way. There are bridges and flights of steps and on either side of the river are large stones covered in moss. The atmosphere is magical. It's a circular walk about an hour all round with plenty of free parking (no overnight parking). Beware the path is quite uneven and stony though solid. It's quite popular so get there early.
Eilidh B — Google review
There are no words that will stand up to the beauty of Pucks Glen. It feels jurassic at times. The multitude of waterfalls give great photo opportunities and plunge pools. There are a couple of ways to access the Glen as it loops around and takes about 2 hours....... would love it see it in winter with the snow dusting the vegetation. As with any Glen it can get slippery in places but sure and steady in these spots will ensure no mishaps. A great place for all the family.

Brilliant fun and very reasonably priced for Paddle Boarding. We were staying at Ardlui Hotel during our trek of the WHW. We had friends visiting to share in a birthday celebration. The staff were wonderful and very relaxed doing all they could to give us a great experience. Highly recommend booking an activity with them. 😎👍

Awesome experience will definitely book again on our next visit. Great views and fantastic service. Created lasting memories for our children. Originally booked for 12pm but due to an accident on the road we couldn’t get through. They were really understanding and accommodating and offered for us to go on at 3pm.

Bought as a Christmas gift for my partner and we were not disappointed. Great instructor for the wake boarding and was standing on the water within 15mins. Would go again! Could definitely make a good day of it with Kayaking and Boat hire too! It is it the far end of loch Lomond so little bit of a drive.

The family enjoyed their hours kayak hire. Good service and the equipment they hired was good. If you are going to spectate, take a book. You can't see those out on the loch, no where to go and nothing to do!

Milarrochy Bay is a beautiful place with stunning views and well-maintained facilities. However, our experience was marred by an unfortunate encounter with an unfriendly staff member who made unwarranted comments and threatened to kick us out. We hope that management will address this issue to ensure that all guests have a pleasant and respectful stay.
