Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is a must-visit destination in the Alps, offering a breathtaking experience. The journey to this highest cable car station in Europe from Zermatt village takes 45 minutes, providing panoramic views of peaks and glaciers. At the top station, visitors can explore a restaurant, shop, cinema, and viewing platform showcasing famous Alpine peaks in France, Italy, and Switzerland.
This observation deck offers a direct view of the Breithorn and a spectacular 360-degree view of the Swiss Alps. We recommend taking the gondola from Zermatt, as it's easy to access while enjoying the spectacular view. Glacier Paradise is a cave beneath the glacier, but it's cold even in summer, so a down jacket is a must.
Taka N — Google review
This is the pinnacle of Matterhorn visit for any tourist. The highest cable car station with temperatures hoovering around sub zeros. Here you have three basic options one to visit the panoramic 360 view tower through a lift, second you can walk on the glacier upto the hiking trail to Breithorn and third you can the glacier cave by foot with mesmerising snow sculptures, crevices of glaciers to view live, and a walk through the sub zero temperature. You can easily spend atleast half a day but last of the cable car being at 6 p.m.
Sundararajan V — Google review
I definitely recommend, there activities for the whole day! First go to the top, enjoy the view and snow, you can climb the mountain if you want, enjoy Ice Palace, then. Go slowly down, there is lots of trails , lakes, there is amazing restaurants with the breathtaking view. I started 8.30 and came back to hotel 6pm... It worth every penny!
Iryna — Google review
Overall, this is a great ride up close to the mountain. There’s a bunch of activities to do once you reach Klein Matterhorn. The cable car ride itself is worth the price because of how high it takes you and the views you get. However, if I compare this to Jungfraujoch I felt like our experience was much better in Jungfrau. If you’re in Zermatt though, this is what I’d recommend going for vs Gornergrat.
Rahul R — Google review
Wow...we were not sure when we arrived on Sunday evening as it was raining and we could not see anything. We decided to do the glacier paradise which was the best decision. Going up, we ran into heavy clouds and snow, we could barely see 4 m in front of us. The cable car was awesome. There is an ice castle with ice art, amazing stuff. Take extremely warm clothing, it gets below 5 degrees there. There is a good coffee and food shop, with other stuff like gifts, etc. There was snow so we got to play in the snow. The view point was closed unfortunately due to the heavy winds and the matterhorn was not visible. Overall, I'll do it again. And, ALWAYS GET A FULL OR HALF PASS DEPENDING ON HOW LONG YOU PLAN TO STAY. Half pass for short stays, full pass for longer stays.
Abdul A — Google review
Absolutely mind-blowing experience. I cannot recommend this enough, especially if you choose a day with perfect weather. The views are stunning from top to bottom. The Glacier paradise doesn't disappoint, the statues are amazing!
Michelle C — Google review
When planning visit in Zermatt visit to Glacier Paradise was something I was looking forward to. Went up with my family and it was absolutely stunning. Amazing ride and views. We were lucky to have a sunny and warm weather. Definitely recommend to visit! It wasn’t possible to buy tickets online in advance using Swiss family card but it turned out not to be necessary as there was almost no queue. Buying the same day has the advantage of knowing the weather. For us during warm day in summer it was enough to have two warm long-sleeve layers, long pants and something windproof on top. If you plan on going on a longer trip on top I’d suggest something warmer. Temperature increases significantly for each station down.
Michał S — Google review
Visiting Matterhorn Glacier Paradise was one of the most unforgettable highlights of my time in Switzerland, as well as in Zermatt. The journey up, via a series of gondolas, builds anticipation with every stop, and once you reach the top, the panoramic views are absolutely breathtaking. Standing at over 12,700 feet, with snow-covered peaks stretching across Switzerland, France, and Italy, it truly feels like you’re on top of the world. One of the most unique features is the Ice Palace, an ethereal experience where you walk inside a glacier. The cool, quiet tunnels carved into the ice are unlike anything I’ve seen before, with sculptures and shimmering walls that make the whole experience feel dreamlike. The combination of the Ice Palace, the observation deck, and the surreal stillness at that altitude created a moment of awe I wasn’t expecting. It’s more than just a viewpoint; it’s a space that invites you to pause, breathe deeply, and feel small in the best possible way. Despite the high elevation, the facilities were incredibly well maintained, and everything felt thoughtfully designed for visitors. For anyone visiting Zermatt, this isn’t just a scenic stop, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that stays with you long after you descend.

The Matterhorn Museum - Zermatlantis, located in Zermatt, offers a unique insight into the history of the region and the mountaineers who conquered the Matterhorn. The museum documents the triumphs and tragedies surrounding the first ascent of the iconic peak in 1865. Visitors can explore a sunken village exhibit depicting different periods of time, complete with chalets, mazots, and dwellings.
Matterhorn museum is a very good museum to learn about history and development of Matterhorn and Zermatt village. The entire journey of how a village of farmers got transformed into a major tourist attraction is exciting. You also learn about the mountaineers who lost their lives while climbing Matterhorn, the challenges faced by them, the lifestyle and history of Zermatt village and much more. The entire museum is underground and there are free lockers available to keep your luggage. As the museum opens in afternoon you can come here after your Gornergrat Matterhorn visit. It is close to  Zermatt station just a 10 minute walk. Matterhorn museum is free with Swiss Travel Pass. Tip: The museum focuses more on history of Matterhorn and Zermatt. If you don't like history you might find this place boring.
Nirav P — Google review
Matterhorn Museum After exploring the Matterhorn Views itself, with your Swiss Travel Pass you can visit this museum. It has a wide range of history about the city of Zermatt and how it became a touristic city in this age. There’s also a free locker that you can put your bags in before you explore inside the museum. A lot of artifacts from the present and the past. I also like how the animals are involved in building the whole city knowing their contribution.
Fredric J — Google review
Excellent tribute to the mountaineers of the past who pioneered alpine climbing in this area long ago. A balanced version of telling the controversial events of the first ascent of the Matterhorn. The audio tour is a must, you will get so much more out of your visit. The museum is only open briefly each day (14:00-18:00) so plan accordingly.
Kent K — Google review
It was much more interesting and informational than I expected it to be. You can see real size houses and models, a small movie theater in the middle of it all. If you have the time, it is definitely something interesting to see.
Stella K — Google review
This is one of the most unique museums we've ever visited, and we absolutely loved it. It offers a fascinating insight into the history of Zermatt, the daring hiking expeditions to the Matterhorn, and the equipment used by climbers over the years. One of the highlights is a dedicated room showcasing an engaging documentary, which adds depth to the experience. It's a must-visit for museum enthusiasts, and a perfect way to spend time, especially on a rainy day!
Siddhareddy D — Google review
Nice place to learn about the local history, especially the historic competitive climbs to conquer the Matterhorn peaks and how local tourism developments accompanied. There's an upper exhibit floor and a lower floor with about 5 rooms and a small theater screening a short film. Here you can experience how the locals lived in the past. Overall informative site to spend about 1-2 hours, great for children and adults alike.
Hoong W — Google review
I really enjoyed the Matterhorn museum! It's great if you are looking for a quick activity in Zermatt (especially on a rainy day). I enjoyed learning about the early exhibitions and appreciated the detail of the displays!
Holly H — Google review
Loved reading the rich collection of mountaineering histories and seeing how a poverty stuck Alpine town transformed into a world class tourist attraction. The museum also documented the first ascent of Matterhorn very well.

Mountains
Matterhorn is a renowned alpine peak known for its distinctive pyramid shape and challenging climbing routes to the summit. It is part of the TORX program, featuring great trails in the Aosta Valley. Visitors can take a cable car to reach the terrace and enjoy stunning views of Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Gran Paradiso, Monte Rosa, and Swiss peaks. The area also offers access to Plateau Rosa and Grotta di Ghiaccio on foot.
Nature is unbelievable. Matterhorn has around 430K of marked trails, everywhere you look is a beautiful nature. Valleys, glaciers, hills, fields, cows. Had an amazing hike and will be back hopefully sometime. Would love to Mountain bike here too, its just so beautiful and raw.
Lukas G — Google review
Nature is so beautiful, lots of marked trails for hikers and so clean. It is a stunning experience and such a lovely place, recommended for both hikers and those who are not. Train ride up there is around 40 minutes from Zermatt if you are planning to go all the way up, or a bit less if you are planning to hike a bit till the top station.
Azer J — Google review
We went during Christmas season, beautiful place to spend a complete day here. The view of Matterhorn from level 2 of the gondola is spectacular. There are good restaurants for food and drinks as well.
Atanu N — Google review
Phenomenal - very beautiful mountain surrounded by very beautiful landscapes and a great small cozy town, Zermatt🤩. I was there in July 2023 and it was amazing. We had lunch at the restaurant in Schwarzee which was also with a very good view of Matterhorn and the surroundings. I can truly recommend going here, for sure!
Niclas J — Google review
This is an awesome mountain. Really steep on the cable car (what do you expect people who have put too steep) and nice and cool from the warm temperatures below (as you'd expect being 4000m above sea level).
Joseph D — Google review
Iconic Switzerland at its best. The views of the Matterhorn are simply world-class. Whether hiking, skiing, or just relaxing, it’s magical.
Jasper B — Google review
Beautiful mountain scenery and cute sheeps. On Matterhorn, the sheep season was already over in October. But we were lucky to find sheeps on the hills west of Zermatt :)
Jingzhou W — Google review
Probably the icon you could think about Switzerland! Spent 3 days in Zermatt, found it not too difficult to have a look towards the peak as the distance and altitude is not that far away. Rifflesee (Gornergrat area) gives the best view with a mirroring lake surface. The 5 lakes hike in Sunnegga is also spectacular. Both hikes are easy and almost all downhill if you hop off the cable cars from higher stations.

Ridge
Gornergrat is a rocky ridge in Zermatt, accessible by a cog railway, and renowned for its stunning views of the Matterhorn and the Gorner Glacier. Visitors can opt for luxury hotels like Cervo Zermatt or unique stays at Riffelalp Resort 2222m or Igludorf. For activities, skiing on beautiful slopes and taking the panoramic train to Gornergrat are highly recommended.
Took the train to Gornergrat and hiked down to Riffelberg. Amazing views and experience. July, cool up top, shorts and long sleeves, hiked a couple hours including breaks for pictures and snacks.
Ryan H — Google review
If the weather is good then the trip is worth it. The day we visited, the train broke down. Having been instucted to leave the carriage and wait on the opposite side, the rain came down quite heavily and all were soaked. Replacement train arrived and the journey continued. No visibilty at the summit due to cliud cover, then fine snow. Took the train down and sat in a bar, the sun came out and behind us was the Matterhorn in all its glory!
Anthony G — Google review
Incredible scenery. Like everything else in Switzerland the price is ridiculous but on balance it’s worth it. If you get a good weather day it’s almost unbeatable mountain scenery
SB — Google review
Totally worth the trip! Go in the morning for the best light. (背光) You can also stop by Riffelsee to see the famous reflection of the Matterhorn.
Steven C — Google review
Large platform allows for a decent view of mountains, even if it is crowded. There is an overpass over the rail road leading to the observatory, and also to a Golden Spot that features restored historic locomotive, providing a prominent photo opportunity with the Matterhorn. We were lucky to see the Matterhorn in its full glory for about an hour, after that a cloud partly covered the mountain for the rest of the day. There is a restaurant at the station and clean bathrooms. We decided to hike to Riffelsee lake, but since the Matterhorn had a cloud cover, did not go all the way down. The hike is considered an easy hike, however, I did not find it so. Uneven ground steeply down the hill with lots of large and small stones, as well as gravel, very slippery.
FLnurseER1 — Google review
Amazing views. Great launching place for several hikes. Exceeded all expectations!

Worth the train ride. Sit on the right side of the train for photos of the Matternhorn, hut the whole ride is stunning.

Nestled behind the Parish church of St. Mauritius in Zermatt, Mountaineer's Cemetery serves as a poignant reminder of the perilous nature of the Alps. It is the final resting place for numerous climbers who met their fate while attempting to conquer peaks such as Matterhorn, Taschhorn, Weisshorn, and Monte Rosa. The cemetery features various types of headstones, some bearing stories of those interred beneath them.
A beautifully maintained cemetery that remembers and respects many of the brave mountaineers that lost their lives to surrounding mountains including the Matterhorn.

This is a small cemetery between St. Mauritius Church and the river. It's called Mountaineers in honor to those who lost their lives conquering the famous peak. However, we also found other buried here, as well at the Church's backyard
Dejan B — Google review
Very interesting cemetery with buried fallen hikers of the mighty Matterhorn. Just walking through and reading the epitaphs and dates of birth and death is fascinating. Across the street is a dedication on a wall with sculptures that you have to see to believe!
Paula ( — Google review
A really moving place that leaves you wondering if these climbers had their time again knowing their original lives’ outcome would they chose to live their second lives in a more risk-averse type way perhaps…?
Toxteth G — Google review
A very sobering and even sad place to remember those who Chose to Climb the Matterhorn and lost their young lives. Many were in their teens and early twenties when they met their end, before their lives had truly begun. The graves of the original group that was led by Edward Whymper are here as well. They summited successfully in 1865 but met disaster on the way down. The cemetery is located behind St. Mauritius Catholic Church and is open 24/7. It is well maintained and a very interesting place to visit.

Hinterdorfstrasse is a must-see area in Zermatt, located beyond the Monte Rosa Hotel. It's a maze of narrow lanes with weathered old wooden chalets, barns, stables, and storehouses that offer a glimpse into an earlier period of Zermatt's history. The street features 16th-century wooden buildings that are around 500 years old.
Old larch-wooden households dating back to 16-18 centuries that are still residences. We discovered this quiet street by chance and immediately got fascinated. Must visit while in Zermatt!
Horia B — Google review
Hinterdorfstrasse is a small, maybe 200-300 met long side street between the main Bahnhofstrasse and river. It's one of the oldest streets with old wooden houses leveled up on stone stilts, probably to avoid uninvited animals or floods. Some houses are converted into guestrooms and bars, some we saw abandoned. It's was pleasant and interesting stroll after the train to Matterhorn
Dejan B — Google review
The must-see historic corner in Zermatt. Shows how the weight of the small wooden houses is carried by 4+ flat stone plates, which in turn stand on a wooden structure that elevates the house above ground level. No tickets are needed here.
Marc Z — Google review
An interesting street full of distinctive old wooden buildings in Zermatt built in traditional style. Some are occupied, some are available as rental apartments. Surprisingly, none were open to look inside. I think one of these should be converted back to how it was back in the day as it would make a nice little museum & visitor attraction.
Toxteth G — Google review
Beautiful! I loved this street. A small street with chalets dates back to 1600. Some houses are renovated and are in use as holiday homes, but the outer view of the house is still in its original state.
Tahir I — Google review
Small street with houses dating back to 1600. Some have been renovated and are used as rental flats.
Ana C — Google review
When in Zermatt, be sure not to miss out on this little street. Even though it's just one left turn away from the "Bahnhofstrasse" and right smack in the middle of the village, you might easily miss it, since the first few meters do not look like you might picture it. But then after a few steps the old wooden buildings will pop up. They are dated back to the 16th Century....making them around 500 years old. Mostly they are made from larch wood, containing lots of resin, which makes them very strong and also keeps away parasites. Many of the buildings are still inhabited and used. So be respectful to the buildings and its owners and keep the noise level low. Between some buildings you even can catch a great view of the Matterhorn (on your right when walking down). Of course there are always visitors present, but if you're just a bit patient and wait a few minutes you can get some pics without anybody on it. Most visitors rush through this place. But if possible, take your time to fully appreciate this part of Zermatt.
Alex H — Google review
A quiet street featuring old houses of Zermatt, where you can walk past and admire the wooden buildings. Mostly is just looking at the exterior, but it's good enough. No entry fee but just a historical street.

Bodies of Water
Stellisee is a stunning mountain lake located near Zermatt in the Swiss Alps, known for its clear waters that beautifully reflect the iconic Matterhorn. Surrounded by alpine meadows and majestic peaks, it's a favorite spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts seeking the perfect shot of the mirrored peak. The glacial lake offers a tranquil setting and serves as an ideal location for nature photography.
I circled this lake as part of my mountain run. There are no high vegetarian or any trees so you can clearly see the whole lake. At the east corner there is a point where the Matterhorn is reflected nicely on the water so many people will take pictures there. The lake is connected to 3 trails: one up to Fluhalp, second up to Blauherd and third down Grindjisee.
Eran D — Google review
Effortless walk. But many big groups of tourists. So it's very crowded. There’s some construction going on, but it didn’t affect the overall experience too much.
Char 1 — Google review
This lake gave the best view I would say. Took an easy 15-30mins hike from Blauherd station. Could continue the 5 lakes hike or go back, but this lake simply the one you must visit.
Mato S — Google review
If the weather was clear, then I don't have any lingering attachment about here. But ... at that moment, it was cloudy and sometimes rainy. I couldn't realize that temperature, so I took a jacket just in case. However during the tracking, I was feeling hot.. so it was just stuff for carrying.

📍 Stellisee @ Zermatt 🇨🇭 First Lake on the 5-Seenweg Hike – Scenic Reflections & Picnic Spot Stellisee is the first lake you’ll reach when starting the 5-Seenweg (5 Lakes Walk) from Blauherd, and it’s easily one of the most photographed spots in Zermatt. 🌄 Postcard-Perfect View Set against the towering backdrop of the Matterhorn, this alpine lake reflects the peak perfectly on calm mornings, offering an unforgettable visual. 🧺 Picnic-Perfect This lake is a popular picnic spot, and it’s best to bring snacks or lunch from town—there are no food facilities on the trail. A perfect place to rest before continuing to the next lakes. 👣 Expect Crowds Being the most iconic and closest to the trailhead, tourists often gather here, especially mid-morning. Arriving early helps you enjoy the serenity before the crowd builds. 🚡 Access Take the funicular to Sunnegga, transfer to the Blauherd cable car, then walk ~20 minutes to Stellisee on a well-marked alpine path. 📸 Tips for Hikers & Photographers • Finish the hike before 3 PM, as clouds tend to cover the Matterhorn by then. • Best Matterhorn reflections are around sunrise—a reason to consider an overnight stay with mountain views. • Start early to avoid the tourist peak and capture the beauty in soft morning light.
Quing_刘妈妈 — Google review
Stellisee was a nice quick stop for me on the Five Lakes hike. I unfortunately didn’t get the iconic reflection of the Matterhorn because I was rushing to catch the last tram down to Zermatt, but the lake itself was serene and charming. Looking at other photos, it seems that some of the rock features have changed, or perhaps the water level made a difference. I would have liked to spend more time there, but I did the hike from bottom to top instead of starting at Stellisee, and it seemed like most other people were making their way down rather than up.

Great hike and beautiful lake to enjoy views of the Matterhorn. I would recommend going early as possible even for sunrise to see the views because the colors and clouds are much better than midday.

Sunnegga, located within the Zermatt resort, is a family-friendly ski area accessible by funicular. It offers a range of runs suitable for skiers of all levels and serves as a starting point for various hiking trails. In addition to providing stunning views of the Matterhorn, this winter destination transforms into a hub for summer activities, including access to the picturesque alpine swimming spot at Lake Leisee.
This is a scenic spot accessible by cable car from Zellmatt. Unfortunately, the cable car to Blauherd was closed due to a rockslide, but the trek to Lake Leisee and Lake Mosche was pleasant, surrounded by fields of beautifully blooming alpine flowers. There's a heart-shaped monument at Zunnegg, so taking a photo of the Matterhorn there makes a great keepsake. Along the way, we encountered a group of Schwarzhalsziege black-necked goats and took a commemorative photo.

Short funicular ride but quite expensive. Sometimes you get a good view of the Matterhorn but it’s never guaranteed. Nice restaurant at top for a rosti. Lovely walk down to zermatt

Visited on a cloudy day in May when it didn't seem worth it to spend the money to go up the Gornergrat. The view was still pretty cool and reasonably priced with the half fare card. Would have been even better if the Matterhorn wasn't being shy.

Short funicular ride that with 50% discount with Swiss pass. Pretty good view of the Matterhorn. There is a hiking trail that you can go down if you prefer to do 1 way funicular up. It takes about 2.5 hrs, thru jungle and rocky steps. Nice view though. You can see the lake at the bottom, if you are lucky, you can see the reflection of the Matterhorn mountain in the water.

Great place for hiking. If weather allows you can Matterhorn can be seen from everywhere. Recommend to do the 5-lake hike.

The first station of the cable car. The view here is already very good. Many hiking routes around, but if you’re going for the 5 lakes hike, you should ride up one more station to Blauherd and hike down to Sunnegga.
Mato S — Google review
Great view of the Matterhorn for a slight cheaper mode of transport than the Gornergrat Railway. Frequent arrivals/ departure from either end. Would just be beneficial if it ran a little later. We thoroughly enjoyed the mode of transport and the view!

📍 Sunnegga @Zermatt 🇨🇭 Scenic Mountain Station & Gateway to 5 Lakes Hike Sunnegga is a sunny alpine terrace above Zermatt, easily reached via a steep underground funicular. It’s not just a viewpoint—it’s a starting point for breathtaking alpine hikes, including the iconic 5-Seenweg (5 Lakes Trail). 🚠 Our Route: Sunnegga → Blauherd → Zermatt Hike From Sunnegga, we took the cable car to Blauherd, enjoying the panoramic ascent. From Blauherd, we began our 5 Lakes hike, passing through: • Stellisee (famous for perfect Matterhorn reflections) • Grindjisee • Grünsee • Moosjisee • Leisee (near Sunnegga) Instead of returning via transport, we continued hiking all the way back down to Zermatt, taking in lush meadows, peaceful trails, and constant Matterhorn views. It was a fulfilling, nature-filled descent that gave us both exercise and quiet alpine beauty. 🧭 Travel Tips • Start early—clouds often cover the Matterhorn after 3 PM. • Weather changes fast—check the forecast each morning. • Bring picnic snacks and water—there are plenty of scenic stops along the trail. • Sturdy hiking shoes are a must. • Sunnegga to Blauherd cable car is convenient and offers a scenic shortcut up the mountain. ⛰️ Final Thoughts This route is one of the best ways to experience the 5-Seenweg without backtracking, and the hike down to Zermatt adds a peaceful, unhurried finish to the adventure. Highly recommended for those looking for a half- to full-day hike with alpine views, turquoise lakes, and glimpses of Valais Blacknose sheep or goats.

Chez Vrony is a renowned on-mountain restaurant located in the Findeln area of the resort. It offers amazing food and a stunning view of the Matterhorn from its terrace. The family-owned establishment has a long tradition and is accessible by gondola or ski-in from a blue run. The restaurant is known for its warm hospitality, with owners Max and Veronika likely to greet you upon arrival.
The view and ambience is unmatched! We’ve traveled a lot and this was truly one of the most stunning views we’ve ever had while dining. The food was also spectacular! We got the burger and the pasta special, and both were delicious. Cannot recommend enough!

Had their signature rosti w bacon bits & egg, and beef burger. Both nice & coupled with Amazing Matterhorn view. But almost 44degree steep hike up & down towards the eatery, not easy for those who do not exercise regularly as high attitude too. Able to reserve via their email on website to get their outdoor bench seats with the best views.
Katherine C — Google review
Our experience at Chez Vrony was truly an 11 out of 10. The location is absolutely magical, with the most breathtaking views of the Matterhorn. We went to celebrate my mom’s 70th birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make it special. They were so kind and accommodating—letting our group of four sit at the very front of the patio (a spot that usually only seats two). At the end of lunch, they even surprised my mom with a birthday dessert, which was such a thoughtful gesture and made her day unforgettable. I am so grateful to them for creating such a wonderful memory. The food was excellent—the salads were fresh, flavorful, and filling, and the cocktails were delicious and refreshing after the hike down. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as the views looked! The hike itself was very manageable on the way down, but if you’re going with seniors, I’d recommend bringing hiking sticks, as the trek back up can be a bit tough. We had an 11:30 reservation, so the hike down was comfortable, but heading back up later in the day got hot—definitely bring sunscreen. Between the views, the food, and the warm, thoughtful service, Chez Vrony is absolutely worth the effort to get there. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Zermatt—it’s an experience you’ll never forget.

One of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had. Sitting there, eating cheese fondue while staring straight at the Matterhorn… it honestly felt surreal. The whole place has this cozy, charming vibe that makes you want to stay for hours. Every dish we ordered was genuinely delicious. Nothing felt overdone or fussy, just really good food made with care. Our waitress had the kindest smile the entire time, which somehow made the whole experience feel even more special. The hike up wasn’t bad at all. It actually made it feel like we earned our meal, which made everything taste even better. If you’re anywhere near Zermatt, this is a must.

This is a must do while in Zermatt!! I’m not sure I have enough adjectives to describe how wonderful our lunch was at Chez Vrony. The service was lovely, the food delicious and the setting absolutely magical with stunning views of the Matterhorn. It took us four hours to hike down from Gornergrat Station to Chez Vrony. It was an epic day and our most favourite of twelve days we’ve been in Switzerland.

Wolli Park Sunnegga is a great starting point for beginners in skiing, accessible via the Sunnegga Funicular. The resort boasts good snow conditions and beautifully maintained red runs suitable for novice skiers. It also offers an ice skating rink and a dedicated beginner's area called Wolli Park, making it ideal for families with children. While it can get crowded during peak times, the stunning winter scenery and opportunities for non-skiers make it a worthwhile destination.
Very nice summer visit. There is a mini lake and a water runway which is satisfying to look at. On the lake, you can find a rope propelling raft to cross the lake, which is pretty fun. Just be warned, although it is called “Wooli Park,” there are no sheep around this area during a hot summer.

It is a good place to start if you are new to skiing. However, it was extremely crowded. We went there on 21 Dec. Most of the time you will spend either trying to avoid people, or queuing to go down slopes, or queuing to use the magic carpet. There was also no restaurant/food facilities nearby so you it will be better if you bring your own snacks, or leave after a few hours. There was also not much area for sitting or resting. Overall, it is a decent place still.

The Wolli park for begginner skiers in Sunnegga was fun and it had easy as well as slightly hard "slopes." We really enjoyed it. However there was no nearby restaurant to grab a snack or to eat sadly. So if you are planning to stay for lunch, you must pack something. 🥪 The only way to reach a nearby restaurant is to ski down somewhere and grab a lift. Though, if you are not exactly that comfortable at skiing then you probably should not.

It's easily accessible from Zermatt village and can be reached by foot or by taking a gondola to Fury and walking down. The entrance fee is affordable, making it a great option for budget-conscious travelers.
“If you’re really ’sporty’ Julika said (from wonderful Hotel Daniela) then this gorge is really fun with a guide.” Icy, snowy… spectacular. Took us 4+ hours and then we had to walk into town. Absolutely stunning natural scenery! The gorge is breathtaking with its turquoise water and rock formations. The only downside is that it’s quite short. It took us about two hours to walk from town down to the gorge up and around and down the other side of the gorge. It was steep in a lot of spots. There are a lot of hills and steps and rocks to climb up. It was pretty. It cost 5.50 a person. There’s a building where you pay.

It's not a very difficult walk. There are some stairs, but I think most people could manage. The view is very beautiful, the reflection is very clear, and it's not very crowded.

The iconic mirroring of Matterhorn. Very accessible from Rotenboden station, took around 10 mins to the lakeside. Lack some luck for the weather, but the sky cleared up a bit after 1 hour of waiting, so hope for the best and be prepared to wait a bit. Found a marmot on the right side of the lake as well!
Mato S — Google review
Lake Riffelsee is famous for its inverted Matterhorn. It's about a 30-minute trek from Gornergrad, and it's a pleasant trekking course with a direct view of the Matterhorn. If you're lucky, you might even see some cute marmots.

Hands down best part of our trip to Zermatt, possibly even throughout the rest of our travels in Switzerland. We went early, missing our 7am Gornergrat train due to a delay in Tasch, but with an 8am departure from Zermatt it was still peaceful/ quiet and had no issues with crowds blocking views/photos.
Lucy D — Google review
I hiked down from Gornergrat to Riffelsee - the descent is a little steep in places, but nothing that a good pair of hiking shoes can't handle, even for inexperienced hikers. The earlier in the day you get here, the better in regards to crowds, clouds and weather. The lake itself isn't anything special, but in ideal conditions, the lake will give you a wonderful reflection of the mountain in its waters.
Joyce T — Google review
Riffelsee (from Rotenboden, one station before Gornergrat) This time, we were lucky to see a perfect reflection of the Matterhorn in the lake—absolutely magical. We took a short but incredibly beautiful walk from Rotenboden station (one stop before Gornergrat) to Riffelsee, and continued toward Riffelberg station. At a certain point, we decided to turn back, simply because we wanted to experience Riffelsee once more. At the entrance to the lake, there’s a lovely alpine botanical section with high-altitude flowers—small but charming. Throughout the walk, we were constantly surrounded by stunning and diverse vistas: the ever-present Matterhorn, nearby glaciers, and distant mountain slopes with a slightly arid appearance. What a view!
Ofer B — Google review
Woke up early, hiked to catch the perfect reflection… Managed to capture one shot before an inconsiderate dude decided to fly his drone (noisy too) right above the water 😤💦 Ripples everywhere. Funny how it takes hours for nature to find stillness — and just seconds for a drone or dude to mess it up 😓

Easily accessible via a short funicular ride from Sunnegga, it serves as an excellent starting point for beginners looking to ski. While the area features moving carpets and a special Wolli pass for easy navigation, those new to skiing may find the surrounding slopes quite challenging.
Not the best view, but the most accessible one. Ropeway up to Sunnegga then there is the Leisee Shuttle (lift) down to the lake.

Close by to Sunnegga and the end of the 5 lakes hike if you went the top way down. The lake is good to take a good mountain reflection picture. A nice place to sit, relax and just keep looking at the majestic mountains. I gave these one 4 stars because it’s more touristy than all the other lakes, with a rope pulley along the lake for kids. Not my scene but obviously enjoyable for other people. There is a free funicular lift to get up to Sunnegga if you want to save your feet after a long hike. The Gornergrat Railway, also known as the Gornergrat Bahn, is a renowned cogwheel train that ascends the Gornergrat mountain in the Swiss Alps. As Europe's highest open-air rack railway, it offers passengers an enchanting journey through scenic landscapes, tunnels, and bridges. With six stations along its route, the railway provides unparalleled panoramic views of iconic peaks like the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa range.
Incredibly scenic ride to the top, best view is on the right side of train, and since everyone knows it, you have to be right at the door and get to your seat fast. We were lucky to visit on a fairly sunny day, the Matterhorn slowly unveiled itself to a full glory.

If you get on the first train It’s not crowded. The train was shut down for a few hours after ours. Those of us on the first train were lucky to had the whole place to ourselves. Gorgeous weather for hiking!

Our most expensive purchase in Switzerland! Question: was it worth it? YES! The views are breathtaking. We leaned out of the windows on both sides and admired these beauties the whole way! But be careful, it can be dangerous - sometimes the train passes dangerously close to pillars and tunnel walls. Despite all the beauty, still the price is unreasonably high..
Aliaksei A — Google review
TLDR: IMO, the Matterhorn express (gondola) is better. The Gornergrat railway and associated viewing points, etc. are a decent attraction but felt a bit meh after we tried the Matterhorn express (Gondola). The only reason to consider this seriously is if you want a picture against the mountain peak or if you’re hiking along some trails. If you’re short on time and want to experience snow, the mountain peak up close, this is not the best option. Nothing against the service or the attraction itself they’re doing a good job.

Great adventure and incredible views to Gorner and Matterhorn. The train is well maintained and have spectacular views. I recommend going early in the morning and buying ticket in advance - you can catch the train to the summit and then hike the way down (we’ve done a longer hike of 4h- it was moderate hard but so worth it)

Definitely a must do. We opted for priority seating and we felt it worth it as our mobility is not the quickest and this allowed us to board without the scrambling for coveted seats. The weather was in our favor and we had spectacular views . Once at the top, plenty to see. We stopped on the way back and enjoyed a bite to eat and drink at one of the stops. Really a stunning excursion.

Knowing how popular this train ride would be, I pre-booked an Express Entry ticket which guaranteed me a three-minute head start to board the train and choose my preferred seat. The Gornergrat Train was a wonderful experience. It took you through forests and up mountain slopes, offering breathtaking views of the Matterhorn and surrounding peaks on a clear day. After visiting the summit, I rode the train back down one station and got off at Rotenboden where I enjoyed an unforgettable hike to Riffelalp. As the weather changed, I decided to take the train from there back to Zermatt. A must-do in Zermatt. Highly recommended.

The Matterhorn Glacier Palace is a popular tourist destination in Switzerland, attracting visitors with its stunning panoramic views and unique attractions. Situated at an altitude of 3,089m above sea level, the Gornergrat offers breathtaking vistas of the Monte Rosa massif and the Gornergletscher, one of the largest glaciers in the Alps.
The glacier palace is built under the glacier, entirely covered with the ice, it has some activities and sculptures inside, it is fun to visit in the freezing sub zero temperature. Well maintained and it is really a great experience at this place. They have a small ice slide also which is fun. It gets really cold after a while, but that's worth the experience! Was somewhat crowded when we visited, the efforts put to have this set up is very high and it is really well kept and maintained!

Wonderfull place in which ice is transformed into art. Truly a unique experience. I was irritated by the fact that while staff told me that ski pass gives you access to to the glacier palace, my ticket was not working. Even after asking for support, they told me that it had to work, but eventually I bought another ticket to enter the area. kind of unorganized! Furthermore, temperature is very low, so be prepared with warm clothes.

The top station of the amazing mountain railway leading to the summit of Gornergrat. The train journey itself was very smooth, and the views were simply breathtaking. At the top, the gates didn't open for some of our tickets. Once up there, there's plenty of space, and you can admire the surrounding area from many different viewpoints.

Forest Fun Park Zermatt offers an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers and families, with over 100 high rope courses, ziplines, and climbing challenges set amidst the stunning backdrop of the Matterhorn. The park features Swiss-made Saferoller systems to ensure safety while testing your strength and balancing skills. From the Kid's Trail for younger adventurers to the Big Trail offering various difficulty levels, there's something for everyone.
As a 24 and 25 year old… let me just tell you we had the BEST experience here! We went the opening day of the 2025 season and were blessed to be the first on the course with only 2-3 other groups! Which thankfully meant no wait times. We were told in peak summer it gets very busy so make sure to book ahead! We had such an amazing time though. Not only were Casper and Bernard awesome to work with, the course was amazing! 2 zip line courses and 2 adventure/strength courses. The black course is extremely hard!! The view of the Matterhorn from the course is beautiful if you catch it on a clear day. Also, the price was extremely fair! Who could say no to zip lining either that view? 😍 Yes, they gave bag storage. Yes, the course is self guided. Yes, they have bathrooms. Yes, you should go it!

We had a blast of a time! When we arrived at 4.3 pmish it was quite busy on the kids trail, but still our son had the chance to do the trails a lot, as many people left earlier than us. My daughter and I have done the green trail - what a long course with a lot of different obstacles along the way! The staff was most friendly and totally helpful - thanks also for the personal compliment - I’m flabbergasted 😇

The people working here are very nice. The equipment is well maintained. It's super fun when you are zipping the Zipline and having a great view of Matterhorn.

It was a very cool Adventure with exiting Zip Lines! The Staff was very friendly and explained it all very well. The Prices for Food and Drinks were also ok, you always have to keep in mind, that Zermatt is not one of the most affordable Holiday Locations! The Routes were very creative and the Zip Lines had a very beautiful View. You should definitely go there if u want the beauty of Nature in Zermatt from above.

My boys absolutely love this place!!! Must go if you are visiting Zermatt with kids or teenagers! My family first visited in 2019 when my boys were 5 and 7 years old, and we lived in Zurich. We only spend one day at the park and they fell in love. After we moved away from Switzerland, Forest Fun Park is wha they missed the most! After 6 years, we revisited the Park from the U.S. This time. We spend three days at the park! My boys could not get enough of the expanded courses with long zip lines and challenging obstacles. They had so much fun that they convinced both mom and dad to join them. It’s one of the most memorable activities we did as a full family in Zermatt. More than fun itself, it also help them built confidence and overcome fear of heights. The secret to this park is their innovative harness system that allows the kids to operate all obstacles & course independently. Unlike other zip line courses with an expert secures your harness and follows you through every obstacle course, this innovative system allows continuous self operation at your own speed with the confidence of safety, even for a 5 year old! The staff working there are amazing. They are experienced adventurers and world travelers that are super friendly. Thank you all for giving my boys the experience of their lives. I can confidently say: we will be back!!
David Q — Google review
As a group ranging from ages 27-75, we weren’t certain that this was the right place to spend an afternoon in Zermatt, however we all had so much fun! Afraid it wouldn’t be challenging enough we worked our way up to the black course. Mainly obstacles, it provided a great workout and balance practice. The zip lines on the brown course were our favorite!
Lucy D — Google review
My husband and I had the BEST time here! Forest fun park is indeed very fun! The employees were so kind and helpful and gave suggestions on which courses to start with. It’s really easy to use the harness system and once you’re in the course you don’t have to undo the harness. The blue and brown ones were my favorites since they had the most zip lines :)
Amber L — Google review
The staff here are incredibly nice and friendly! The instructions are clear, and there's ample time for practice to ensure everyone understands how to use the zip line. However, I feel that the green trail is too long and shouldn't be labeled as easy, as it involves significant balancing and lifting, which requires a lot of energy. I believe the difficulty level for the green trail should be increased. Personally, I found the blue and brown tracks easier!

Mountain peak
Klein Matterhorn is a snow-covered peak in the Alps, offering the highest cable car ride in the region and stunning views of the Matterhorn. It is part of the Matterhorn Ski Paradise, which includes three main ski areas: Sunnegga, Gornergrat, and Klein Matterhorn.
Admiring the beautiful mountains above the white clouds, although a little cold, it feels like being in heaven. My soul is instantly cleansed, and I feel the insignificance of human beings and the magnificence of nature.
Juireat S — Google review
I’m not sure why Gornergrat gets all the attention when the trip to Klein Matterhorn is both slightly cheaper and offers a much more unique experience. If I could have only done one it would definitely have been this one. At 3,883 m, this is the highest you can get in Europe by cable car - higher than even Jungfraujoch. The journey itself has some nice views as you go up and down from station to station. As you near the top, passing over an astonishing glacier, the air gets thin and I noticed myself getting tired just walking up a slope! But it is so worth it. Walk down a few steps and you can step out on to the Breithornplateau, 3.8 km high, and walk on snow and ice, even in the middle of August. And of course enjoy the view of the Matterhorn, but also nearby Breithorn, which you can climb if you’re feeling fit. On a clear day like when I visited, you can even see Mount Blanc 70 km away on the horizon. You can even walk across the snowy plateau to Italy if you like. There is a real sense of the icy expanse. As a bonus the ice caves within the glacier are a really neat experience. The ice sculptures are cool (literally) and you really get a sense of wonder at the sheer amount of ice all around you, slowly sliding down the mountain. Definitely worth it.
Matt D — Google review
Great experience at the top of the Klein Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland. Three cable cars to reach the top. Apart from the amazing views, there is also the opportunity to walk through a crevice in the glacier. Climbing to 12700 feet was definitely a wonderful experience.
Cesar T — Google review
Undoubtedly the highest peak station in Switzerland at 3900m. Once you are here you can see the giant Matterhorn via panorama view point. Matterhorn stands tall and looks terrific. The journey to reach top is little longer. But the view from top is incredible. In winter, it looks even more mesmerising. Now, gondola and cable car ride to this station is not fully covered by Swiss pass but you can buy the same at 50% discount at the entry point.
Rohit S — Google review
The Klein Matterhorn is crazy high. We went to the ice cave then restaurant afterwards. The ice cave is inside a glacier, this experience is highly recommend, the journey alone via gondolas has amazing views of the entire region and the best views of the Matterhorn.
KlrFking M — Google review
Awesome view! Go to the observation deck and enjoy a impressive view. Or simply take your ski and ski downhill.
Daniel W — Google review
What a wonderful trip, riding up through the clouds that socked in Zermatt up to the crisply cold, brilliantly white top of the Klein Matterhorn at 12,700 feet and 9°F. The gondola is huge and holds quite a few people and yet there is room to observe the view going up. A cloudy day in Zermatt does not necessarily mean that the mountain will have clouds since the gondola climbs through them. Don't worry, there is a lovely ski chalet at the top (with pay restrooms) which serves warm drinks, snacks, and etc., and has a wonderful view if you wish to stay in. Otherwise, you can visit the Ice Sculpture area, shop, get tricked out with rented equipment to ski, if you wish, or take and elevator and some outside stairs to the Observation Deck to get a 360° view. A marvelous way to get up close and personal the Matterhorn. Bring sunglasses and sun screen if you plan to be out. The sun is quite intense. Dress warmly.
Celeste R — Google review
To get the see view you must to make sure your coming in a clear day otherwise is a wast of money, i was there in middle August and the weather was nice when we been down, but when we arrived up to the high everything was cloudy and we couldn't see much.

Sara was my instructor at Skiing Family Zermatt, and she did a fantastic job! She started by covering the basics and progressively advanced the lesson as we went along. I began in the beginner area and, by the end of our session, I was confidently completing multiple runs. No matter your skill level, Sara can tailor her instruction to meet your needs and help you progress quickly. Thank you so much for your guidance and support, Sara! Can’t wait to see you next time!

I had the absolute pleasure of skiing with Peter for three days in Saas-Fee, and I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor! His deep knowledge, patience, and incredible teaching style helped me progress so much—taking me confidently from blue slopes to reds in just 1 day! Peter knows exactly how to explain techniques in a way that makes them click, and his encouragement kept me motivated the whole time. I’m beyond happy with my progress and already looking forward to skiing with him again next year! If you’re looking for the best ski instructor, book Peter—you won’t regret it!

We had a really good experience skiing with Radush. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone in our group felt comfortable throughout the day. The route was well planned, with a nice mix of terrain that matched our ability level and gave us a few fun challenges along. It was clear she knew the area well and had a good sense for reading the group’s pace and adjusting when needed. Highly recommended guide.

Ski lesson with Bara - Zermatt ski school Family Skiing ... Had an amazing three days Barbara! She was a wonderful ski guide around the slopes. As a beginning/intermediate skier we appreciate all the tips and lessons thrown into just a fun day of skiing. Definitely pushed my limits which allowed me to ski on hills I never would have tried on my own. Beyond that great conversations and and just an amazing person overall. Leaving the experience feeling like a better skier and knowing what to work on when I return home. Would highly recommend!!! Update: January 2025 Was fortunate enough to be able to.use Barbara for our return trip to Zermatt. What an incredible experience. While we were comfortable skiing mostly blue runs last year, we were now skiing mostly reds! Our goal was to be able to ski into Italy and we did!!! As challenging as it was she taught us so well that I felt confident in hills I never would have thought to ski. Plenty of fun, laughs and pushing our limits through the entire week and could not have asked for a better ski guide or person. Thank you again for all the wonderful memories!

We booked five mornings of ski instruction with Family Skiing Zermatt as a way of getting more focussed tuition compared to group lessons but also to spend more time on the slopes together as a father and son. Both have been outstandingly successful. Kristyna was brilliant balancing tuition to a child, a parent, a tour guide around the pistes, and in making the holiday fun. Our son progressed much faster than previous skiing holidays and even achieved his first black run! We’ve had a couple of disappointing experiences putting our son into group lessons but we couldn’t have been more pleased to have booked Family Skiing. Communication was simple on WhatsApp during the week, we met Kristyna, Dominica, and Petr who were all wonderfully friendly, and the week felt that it was about giving us the best possible experience. We’ve had a thrilling time improving our skiing and enjoying what will be precious memories as a family learning to ski together. We intend to book Kristyna again next year and my wife was so impressed listening to our days’ instruction experience, she intends to join in next time too.

Air Zermatt rides are an experience of a lifetime, whether sharing a helicopter ride with others, booking them to transport passengers to the really high skiing places, one can rely on their professional pilots, good-humored and good-natured, they make the ride even for those who are a bit scared very pleasant. Trivia, the same team are the people who also help others in difficult situations up in the mountains. Riding with them or buying their merchandise is one way of supporting them. It's also the love of the flying craft combined with impeccable safety that makes them truly THE AIR ZERMATT. Highly recommendable for visitors to Zermatt!

What an amazing experience in Zermatt & Cervinia skiing with Peter! I had scheduled 2 days but added on a third because of how much fun I was having. Peter was friendly, knowledgeable about the slopes and he gave me lots of great tips on how to improve my technique. I’m 67 and consider myself an intermediate level skier. I gained so much confidence skiing on the big Swiss & Italian slopes, thanks to Peter’s patience and guidance for improvement. We also had lunch at two fabulous restaurants: Chez Vrony and Chalet Etoile - I never would have found these if I was skiing on my own. If you’ve only skied in the states and it’s your first time to a huge ski resort like Zermatt, it cannot be emphasized enough / get a guide! Peter, at Stoked will not disappoint!

We had an amazing experience with Stoked! My husband and I came to Zermatt for a week with our family and spent three entire days snowboarding with SerG (or “G” for short) from Stoked and honestly we wish we had done one more day. G was extremely knowledgeable about the mountain, patient, and most of all fun! My husband and I are at different snowboarding levels but that didn’t slow our guide down at all, he was able to give us both an amazing experience, challenging us each on our own when needed but also just letting us ride for fun. We can’t imagine traversing the Zermatt slopes without him, we would have been so lost! He took us to so many fun and beautiful spots, even stopping in Cervina for a coffee on one of the days. We had such a blast and couldn’t have imagined a better experience. Our family members also had amazing guides from Stoked for their skiing and snow shoeing adventures throughout the week, the instructors they had were named Francesco and Ed. Our family members raved about how fun, patient and knowledgeable Francesco and Ed were as well. We all got to hang out at lunches over the week and meeting these 3 great instructors was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. We highly recommend Stoked if you’re looking to snowboard, ski or snowshoe in Zermatt!

This cozy, wood-paneled restaurant offers a warm atmosphere where guests can indulge in regional specialties like raclette and fondue. The menu features unique twists on traditional cheese dishes, including delectable options such as mushroom or pear-infused fondue.
I had oil fondue here. It’s safer to make a reservation in advance. Shortly after I arrived, more and more customers came in, and the place was full in no time. Since I had reserved, I was able to enjoy my meal at a relaxed pace. It was my first time staying in Zermatt, and I had a wonderful time.

Delicious and authentic Swiss restaurant for fondue and other classic Swiss cuisine. Definitely recommend making a reservation way in advance. The host suggested booking 3 weeks in advance to people who tried to walk in. They do seem to accommodate large groups. The interior is very cute and homey.

We didn’t try the dinner at Whymper Stube, but we stopped by just for the chocolate fondue. Surprisingly, chocolate fondue isn’t as popular in Switzerland as cheese fondue, so it was a pleasant surprise to find a place that serves it. Located inside Hotel Monte Rosa, one of the oldest hotels in Zermatt, this cozy restaurant offers a charming setting. There are only three tables outside, but if you get one, you’ll enjoy a nice view and a good spot for people watching. The service was friendly and welcoming. The chocolate fondue itself was rich and satisfying, served with strawberries and bananas. We opted out of the marshmallows. If you’re in Zermatt and craving chocolate fondue, this is one of the very few places that offers it.

We also tried their sausages, which were expertly prepared and full of taste. The quality of the food was excellent, and the prices were reasonable for dining in Switzerland. Overall, a lovely spot for a great meal with a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!

We came to this place to try Raclette and it was an incredible experience. The restaurant was fully booked for the evening but the very kind staff offered us to come during lunch when it is less busy. We enjoyed it so much that we also ordered dessert. Run by Franz and Heidi Schwery, the restaurant takes pride in using fresh ingredients from their own Alpine garden to create creative dishes like fluffy Matterkuchen and bacon-and-leek quiche.
We had the rosti, it was very very good. We also liked that they had a lot of non-alcoholic drinks including beer and sparking wine as well as decaf coffee. Sorry folks us healthy Californians ruining the Swiss tradition. Great view.

Really nice place up in Findeln with a beautiful mountain view. The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff are friendly, and everything feels welcoming. Great spot to take a break during a hike or just enjoy the view with something sweet. Big thanks to the staff for waiting a little past closing time for me. Really appreciated the kindness and warm service. Friendly people, great vibe. Would definitely come back next time I’m in Zermatt. Thank you Zohra !

This is a must if you’re skiing Zermatt! Make sure to make a reservation and hope to catch it on a nice day because the views and food combined are the most elite experience one could ask for. Everything we ate and drank was beyond delicious and all on a sunny day on the side of the mountain with views of the Matterhorn. Staff was friendly, menu had a lot of variety, and vibes are unbeatable. Would definitely recommend this over or instead of Chez Vrony if you’re having difficulty with reservations!!

Unfortunately we did not get a chance to eat here as we already had lunch but we did stop to have cocktails before the hike back down to Zermatt. We had the peppermint spritz and the rhubarb spritz and they were both delicious. The staff were extremely friendly.

The food was good and equally good vibe. The bathrooms were well maintained and clean.

The food and views are amazing here. However, the food is prepared ahead of time, which means there are very limited options for those with food allergies. The service was not great, though. Not enough staff for the number of tables, and they even had another group seated at the same table as us. The food came promptly, but we had to ask for the bill twice, and we waited 25 minutes for the bill to arrive. All together, probably worth the long walk to get here, but if you're not up for a long climb, the food closer to the lift stations is perfectly acceptable.

Okay what to say about this restaurant that hasn't been said before. Number one either have to walk or ski to get there. Amble down a narrow path to enter a otherworldly beautiful restaurant with a equally gorgeous vista of the matter horn. Definitely need reservations and sunscreen. We had a couple of delicious meals and a small bottle of wine. The service was nice and attentive but not intrusive and young.

Findlerhof, situated in the breathtaking Swiss Alps, is a hidden gem of Zermatt. Located in the Mattertal valley, this idyllic family-run guesthouse offers its guests a unique, authentic Alpine experience. The surrounding views are simply stunning and the hospitality is unbeatable. Lunch is a must-try at Findlerhof, with their renowned specialties such as their famous cheese fondue. On a clear day, the guests can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Matterhorn while dining. With its unique charm, friendly atmosphere and exceptional food, Findlerhof has become a local legend - a rumor for one of the best places to have lunch!

Summit Ski & Snowboard School, along with European Snowsport and Prato Borni, is known for its British staff. Visitors have praised Summit for their daughter's progress in her first lessons, while others have commended the professional and accommodating nature of European Snowsport. One visitor hired Summit to guide a group of experienced skiers on their first trip to Zermatt and had an exceptional experience with a knowledgeable instructor.
We went to Zermatt for our first Ski trip as a family (much to some peoples amazement as they perceived it not to be for beginners). However, we chose Summit Ski School and it was the best thing we could have done! We had 3 afternoons with Paul Hammett, followed by a further afternoon with Mike Scrivener and both were fantastic instructors, who essentially took us from complete beginners to to skiing the blue runs confidently. The booking was easy with great communication and the tution was amazing! My wife struggles with balance due to dyspraxia and sight loss in one eye, but Paul had her out of the beginner park and on the slopes by day 2! We can't recommend the team enough and would definitely book again when back in Zermatt!

My daughter & husband took a refresher class for 2 days with Louise. My husband was not happy bc he skied when he was younger & knows how (lived in Denver). Louise was phenomenal. Both of them raved about her. She was patient & an extremely gracious teacher focused on the technical aspect of teaching. My daughter really wanted to parallel ski & she met her goal. She even suggested where to eat & made reservations. My husband who like I said didn’t want lessons raved about her. It was a great decision

I had the best lesson ever with Sam this week! He was so patient, kind, and thoughtful in his instruction. I’ve taken many ski lessons before but I’ve never had a breakthrough with my turning like I had with Sam! He really helped me build confidence to go down steeper slopes. The beginner areas he took me to were so fun and easy to learn in!

We booked a ski guide to help us navigate beautiful zermatt. We were lucky enough to get Paul H. He was an absolute wealth of knowledge and guided us all over the mountain on our first day. We learned so much about the culture, mountains, lifts and even the local cuisine. I especially appreciated his patience and kindness with my mediocre skiing abilities. He made sure the group was taken care of and then personally skied a few rounds with me and pointed out ways to help me improve. I fell going down an easy hill and when I caught back up and told him He smiled because he had clearly seen it and said something like “You were just checking the snow right?” Right! He never made me feel inadequate or like a burden and I was so grateful. It was a great experience and I will never forget his teaching me to “pet the dog”! Thanks Paul for all you do! You really made a big difference in my experience in Zermatt!

I had an outstanding experience with Summit for a private snowboarding lesson. The guide that they provided was superb. He had pleasant personality, knew the mountain and was an expert rider. In one day he was able to show me most of the mountain and teach me some new skills. I highly recommend the school to anyone interested in learning how to ski or snowboard.

Awesome skiing experience! I went in January and it was my first time skiing ever and I not only picked a stunning location but a great ski school as well. Luca and all of the staff was so helpful and kind. They were able to find time on the same day for the afternoon when I inquired in the morning. Prices were reasonable and everything seemed very organized and efficient.

My wife and I would like to say thank you for giving us a wonderful skiing experience. We have a good three days of learning with our ski instructor, Christine. She has patience, and is very encouraging to us as beginner skiers. We got from not knowing how to ski to clearing the basic slope on day 3 thanks to Christine's guidance. Highly recommended!

We hired Summit to orient our group of 7 very experienced skiers on our first trip to Zermatt. What we got was one of the best days of skiing we’ve ever had (7100 M vertical!). We were very lucky to have had Chris, a 20+ year Zermatt instructor/guide. Our day was an amazing mix of tons of great terrain, history, geography, photography, and helpful ski tips for each of us. His detailed tips for tackling Cervinia (lifts, trails, and restaurants) was an added bonus. A big thank you to Summit and Chris for the greatest day! The scenery didn’t hurt either.

Perched on a rock 1650 meters above sea level, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of Zermatt and the surrounding mountains. The hotel provides personalized yet informal service for a tranquil escape, featuring an exclusive wellness center with premium treatments and products.
Exceptional. My father and I stayed in this hotel as we were preparing for Matterhorn. The amenities are good, the location is superb, the restaurant is awesome (the burger…). However what makes it such a good hotel are the members of staff – Andre, Helena, Lin, Tania and the rest of the team were helpful, friendly and caring. After a successful summit my father and I discovered Matterhorn-shaped chocolates in our rooms – great touch. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. 10/10.

Even two years later, we still talk about our stay at The Omnia as one of the most spectacular hotel experiences we’ve ever had. From the breathtaking views of the Matterhorn to the seamless service and warm hospitality, every detail was exceptional. The property is stunning, the atmosphere serene, and the staff made us feel genuinely valued as guests. Nina and Bianchi treated us like family, even giving us a tour of the property before personally escorting us to our room. We continue to recommend The Omnia to friends and family, and we can’t wait to return. It’s truly a place that stays with you long after you’ve left.

Hands down one of the best hotel experiences I have had, everything from start to finish was exceptional. Thank you for making my time in Zermatt so memorable. The hotel is stunning, with beautiful facilities matched with incredible views. I enjoyed my coffee every morning on the balcony soaking it all in. The staff were so kind and helpful which made my stay even more amazing. They helped me plan my hiking activities and even arranged a doctors appointment for me when I was unwell. I truly appreciate your hospitality, especially as a solo traveler. I look forward to coming back again one day!

easily one of the best hotel experiences i’ve ever had! as soon as you arrive in zermatt, you are greeted by the friendly driver who helps you with bags and takes you to the hotel. the staff then whisked us away to the terrace for a drink to take in the views before heading to the room. every single detail is thoughtfully planned, including chocolates and other delightful touches to the room during the stay. the pool and steam rooms are wonderful and the breakfast selection is extensive. we were here on our honeymoon and couldn’t have chosen a better place to help us celebrate.

I have stayed in many luxury hotels in the world including Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental. However, this hotel the Omnia was the BEST stay ever. Attention to detail in beautiful design (architecture, furnishings, even the soap dish which looks like TBM- Tunnel Boring Machine- and attentive service were totally exceptional. Now I am staying at Park Hyatt Zürich and it looks so ugly compared to the Omnia. They (Park Hyatt Zurich) don’t have any fundamental philosophy about creating a space. At the Omnia, I made a last minute appointment for the spa, and they made it happen. Phillip noticed I was near the lobby and he ran to tell me the appointment was actually created. Pool and spa area were gorgeous and relaxing. The library with the fireplace was a nice touch. Their collections of art books was better than New York public library. Thank you for letting me have the opportunity to stay there.

Our stay at The Omnia was honestly one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel completely at home, warm, attentive, and genuine in a way that’s rare to find. The location couldn’t be better, with stunning views and easy access to everything in Zermatt. The rooms were stylish and comfortable, and I have to mention the shower pressure, absolutely amazing, which was such a treat after a long day out. Breakfast was another highlight. Sandra, who looked after us most mornings, was fantastic. We’re vegetarian, and she went out of her way to make sure we had plenty of good options, always with a smile and great attention to detail. All in all, The Omnia combines everything you’d want in a stay, great service, comfort, and an unbeatable setting. We left with wonderful memories and would come back in a heartbeat.

Pfarrkirche St. Mauritius, situated in the heart of Zermatt, Switzerland, is a captivating historical and cultural site. This 19th-century church showcases traditional Alpine architecture and exudes a tranquil ambiance for visitors to immerse themselves in. The stone architecture and charming altars add to its allure, offering a glimpse into the past. With its clock tower reaching towards the sky, reminiscent of the iconic Matterhorn, this church holds services in multiple languages on select Sundays.
The church was a pretty new building, in comparison to other churches in Europe region. It has amazing architecture for such a small village, but if you read in history, it was first mention in the 1200.

Nice Church in Zermat. Recently built it looks like.

St. Mauritius is the main Parish Church in downtown Zermatt. It's around 100 years old. We found the Church exterior more appealing than interiors, specially with great Matterhorn views. At the Church backside is a small cemetery with buried mountaineers who died during Matterhorn conquest. Interiors are pretty modest with the Noah's Ark painting on the ceiling. We were lucky being there when a local school class had their lecture by the altar which was a very memorable experience
Dejan B — Google review
The first historical record of the parish church of St Mauritius dates from 1285. It can be assumed that back then it was a small and modest place of worship. Over the following centuries, the church was enlarged and renovated several times. The predecessor of the current parish church was probably built in 1587 in the so-called Italian style. Originally the parish church had three Gothic altars. Following the custom at the time, these were replaced by baroque altars in the 18th century. On the south side of the church were the cemetery and the charnel house from 1651. The new church from 1913 Initially the people of Zermatt did not want a new church at all. But a local vote on 13 November 1910 paved the way for an ambitious new scheme. The architect Adolf Gaudy from Rorschach drew up plans, and on 6 June 1916, Monsignor Joseph Mariétan, Bishop of Bethlehem and Abbot of St. Maurice, consecrated the new church. Ever since, the parish has celebrated the anniversary of the inauguration of the church on the first Sunday in May. The church was painted in 1920, and the clock installed in the tower in 1925. Inauguration of the big organ in 1926 and three new bells in 1932 marked the end of construction. Today’s church stands further east than its predecessors. Complete renovation in 1980 To celebrate the 700th anniversary of the parish in 1980, the parish priest, Eduard Imhof, undertook a complete renovation of the church. Changes to the interior included removing confessionals and double benches from the aisles, taking away the pulpit, adding a celebration altar, replacing the Stations of the Cross and converting the baptismal chapel into a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The ceilings of the choir and vaulted nave were also painted. The painting on the ceiling in the centre of the nave, “Noah’s ark”, is by the artist Paolo Parente from Florence and also dates from 1980. Valuable artefacts The church of St Mauritius is listed in the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Property of Regional Significance because of its altars and baptismal font.

📍 Pfarrkirche St. Mauritius @Zermatt 🇨🇭 ⛪ Parish Church in the Heart of Zermatt Located right in the center of Zermatt’s old town, the Pfarrkirche St. Mauritius (Parish Church of St. Mauritius) is a peaceful and spiritually rich stop during any walk through the village. With its striking green steeple and backdrop of alpine peaks, it’s a beautiful architectural landmark that feels both modest and majestic. Inside, the church is calm and inviting, with traditional stained glass, carved wood details, and a serene atmosphere ideal for reflection. During our visit, we also noted a unique Noah’s Ark sculpture near the entrance—adding a delightful and meaningful artistic touch.

The area has several lift stations including the Sunnegga lift station restaurant, Trockener Steg, and Riffelberg. Visitors can enjoy basic lunches at relatively modest prices at these stations.
Great place for skiing, been there in May, buying ski tickets in advance in that time period is something that I cannot recommend , because of weather that is changing quite fast and because of that ski lifts do not operate quite often. It is safer to buy tickets on the day of skiing.

Part of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car network, this is the station where you'll need to change the cable car to get to the Glacier Paradise. Be sure to use the WC here as they're free, if you're heading up to the attraction. There was not much to see around the station when we visited in the summer as well, as the surrounding area was undergoing construction and there were mainly only rocks. There's a quite nice open rooftop area though where you can take pretty pictures.

Visitors can expect an unforgettable snow experience with their highly skilled instructors. James is a great ski coach, and he taught me a lot about skills and mountain manners. We had great two days of skiing together and checked out the Italian side of the mountain as well. The coach knows the mountain so well, and it’s definitely worth it to get one for at least a full day. Otherwise it’s easy to get lost in the many trail system or miss the lift back.

We had an absolutely fantastic time with Alpine Ski School in Zermatt. From start to finish, everything was top-notch. We had the necessary info and communication was open. The director, Maxime, was incredibly friendly and helpful. We reached out to inquire about other services in summer and he gladly organized a hiking tour for us. The views of the Matterhorn were breathtaking, and having a guide who knew the terrain so well made all the difference. Safety was always a priority particularly as it unexpectedly started raining, but we also had so much fun exploring the slopes. The mix of professionalism and warm hospitality really made this ski school stand out. I can't recommend Alpine Ski School highly enough. I had a truly wonderful time last weekend on a hike organized by Alpine Ski School Zermatt, led by Maxime. The route offered some of the best views of the lakes and the Matterhorn — absolutely breathtaking! Our group was a mix of beginner and advanced hikers, and Maxime did an excellent job making sure everyone felt comfortable and engaged. His knowledge of the area, friendly attitude, and attention to safety made the experience enjoyable for all skill levels. One of the highlights of the day was spotting marmots along the trail — such a delightful surprise that added to the magic of the hike! The hike was well-paced, with plenty of opportunities to take in the scenery, snap photos, and learn about the local environment. I highly recommend Alpine Ski School Zermatt for anyone looking to explore the region — whether you're new to hiking or a seasoned adventurer. Thank you, Maxime, for an unforgettable day in the mountains!

Evolution Ski School is a specialized ski and snowboard school offering private lessons for both adults and children in Zermatt. With experienced and flexible instructors, the school provides options for 2-hour, half-day, or full-day lessons. The instructors are highly praised for their teaching abilities as well as their warm and engaging personalities. They are known to help skiers improve significantly while exploring various slopes in Zermatt and Italy.
We booked a ski guide for 2 days from Evolution Ski school Zermatt because it was our first time in Zermatt skiing. Since the ski slopes were massive and we only had a few days to explore, we didn’t want to waste time trying to map read. Our instructor, Katya, was superb. She paid great attention to us to ensure we got familiar with the slopes for those 2 days such that we could navigate from slope to slope in future without a ski guide. She was also very able to engage my teenagers well so they had a blast too! At the end of day 2, we decided we wanted to get her for 1 more additional day because she was able to ensure which slopes were open and bring us there when certain ski lifts were closed. Overall a 5-star experience with Katya and Evolution.

Spent a week at Zermatt to learn ski and very luckily found Lucia at Evolution Ski (my husband has seen this school in multiple resorts with patient instructors and that’s why he found this school for me). Had either 2-ppl lessons or private lessons with Lucia during my stay and I highly recommend! Lucia’s lessons are very structured and well-organised to help beginners like myself to handle the skills with confidence. She is patient, cheerful and full of empathy. Her teaching makes my ski experience fun and enjoyable! Her knowledge and understanding of clients’ skills help decide which routes to go on and what skills to be “layered up”, which are super helpful for beginners. My humble advice to first-time skiers, look for an instructor is the make or break for falling in love with the sport!

We booked a 5 days, 2 hours long lesson for one adult and two children (7 and 5 year old). Our guide Mattias was absolutely incredible! He helped us with carrying the equipment and adjusting it properly. But most importantly, the kids loved him! He was very nice and friendly, and he made sure the kids had fun by encouraging them and having good vibes all the time. Everyone had learned how to ski,and the kids skied by themselves on a real slope. We will definitely go back to this school next time we're in Zermatt.

We had an amazing experience with Romana from Evolution Ski School! From the very beginning, she communicated clearly and made sure we felt comfortable and prepared for our lesson. She was incredibly friendly, accommodating, and created a welcoming atmosphere for our group of four. On the slopes, Romana was patient, attentive, and truly focused on each of our individual needs. She continuously assessed our skill levels throughout the day, ensuring that everyone progressed at their own pace and that no one was left behind. Her ability to balance encouragement with technical instruction made the lesson both enjoyable and effective. Thanks to Romana, we all gained confidence and improved our skiing skills significantly. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, supportive, and engaging ski instructor in Zermatt, I highly recommend booking with her. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

We had an amazing experience being led from Zermatt to the hornlihutte. Guide was really easy to get along with and knowledgeable and showed up on time. We had a very nice time. Amazing hike. The only issue is that it wasn’t clear what the timing would be and when we should turn around. There was a bit of pressure to go faster when I was afraid to pass people because of the height because we had a time limit to get to the top. The guide started off very slow for me and then it got steep and I slowed to be careful. I was also clear I was a little worried about the heights before we started. They said they were worried we would miss the last gondola at five and we finished at 3:30 so not sure why it was such a rush? In any case it worked out but if you plan to use them be sure you clarify the expected timing of the activity and turnaround time before setting out.

My partner and I joined three other mature walkers on a guided hike to Breithorn. The weather was amazing - Zermatters staff helped to coordinate the walk based on the weather forecast. Our highly experienced guide, Ivan, was outstanding - communicating well with us clients, shepherding us onto cable cars, giving guidance on technical matters (crampons, rope, pole), being aware of - and reacting constructively to - how each of us was coping, setting an excellent pace, and enabling several photo opportunities. The summit rewarded us with outstanding views. What a wonderful day, thanks to Zermatters! After the hike, we spent some time at the cable station enjoying panoramic views and the glacier tunnel. A welcome bonus!

Gabriel was awesome! He was kind, attentive and very knowledgeable about skiing, snowboarding, mountain climbing, Zermatt and Switzerland in general! We learned a lot. We did private lessons for my 14 years old son, as a group with the youngest being 11, and also went to Italy with him for a day. He booked our taxis from the hotel, as well as restaurants. We all had a blast, kids, teenagers and adults alike! Thanks Gabriel for a fantastic 4 days!

Booked a 5 hour guided mountain bike tour all around Zermatt. 4 of us were participating ranging in age and skill from 13 to 50+. In the morning, we met up and finalized what bikes to get, and details of where we would go. Jindra started is simple and did a great job making sure everyone started safely. We rode flown trails, mountain roads and some narrow cliff top trails. We got some amazing food on the way (lunch, and later dessert, and plenty of cappuccinos!), swam in an alpine lake, and enjoyed some of the mountain villages. I would 10/10 recommend Jindra for being a total pro. He listened, took feedback, adapted plans, and did a nice job help us all stay safe and have fun.

I was vacationing in Zermatt this past February and wanted to ski with an instructor/guide for a couple of days, so I booked an Unlimited Ski Day and a Guided Freeride Day with Zermatters. Wow…sums it up. I skied with Andre for both days, and he was fantastic. We skied the entire area on-piste and off-piste and it was great not having to worry about where I was going since he was so familiar with the mountain. I explained what I was hoping to get out of the experience, and he far exceeded my expectations. In just those couple of days, it felt like I was skiing with an old friend. I also must thank the staff in the office. I stopped in the office when I arrived in Zermatt to ask what they thought my best options would be based on the current conditions, and what I was hoping to get out of the experience. They were extremely helpful and suggested exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely be booking another excursion with Zermatters on my next visit to Zermatt.

There are numerous stores that sell sporting goods in various locations, but one notable example is Slalom Sport, which can be found at Kirchstrasse 17 near the village church. Competitors located close to the Gornergrat cable car on Bahnhofstrasse include Glacier Sport and Bayard Sport. Other options for equipment rental include Flexrent, Slalom Sport, and Julen Sport.
PERFECT for E-Bike Rental to explore the mountains. !! Really helpful staff, hooked us up with tools. Repair kit for bike/tires, a pump and helmets and a combo lock! Wife and I took the bikes to the base of Matterhorn and WOW!!!!!! It was astounding- bikes were excellent - but the seats were awful lol very hard and almost uncalled for - another downside to the bikes, there’s no accelerator- you HAVE to pedal, but I kept mine in turbo mode all day and we rode for about 4.5 hours and still had half a battery left when we got back.. !! Highly recommend this place - it was about $205 American to rent for a half day and honestly, #WORTH IT !!!

Great experience renting a mountain bike for a day! Recommended a great ride for me to do solo in the few hours I had free. Would use again!
Ryan B — Google review
Bikes are really good and they seem to have the best deal on the mountain. Owner/main lady was super nice, funny, and informative. She recommended us a trail to go on during the off season and to get gloves along with the bike which were essential. Bikes were worth every penny and they took us really far! Thanks so much!

Rented 2 mountain ebikes. They were in excellent condition. One brake started to squeal; we swung by the shop mid day and they quickly changed out the pads and we were off again. Super helpful and efficient. Would highly recommend.

Avoid this place at all costs; they will ruin your day. Renting bikes from this business was the single worst part of my trip to Zermatt. The mountain bikes they provide are in atrocious condition and are completely unfit for mountain trails. The bike I rented had an extremely worn rear tire with almost no tread left and a fatigued rear derailleur hanger. The overall condition was incredibly poor, with worn parts and poorly terminated cables that show a complete lack of professional maintenance. My day was ruined when I was forced to push the bike for an hour just to get to the gondola. It was a miserable, exhausting start to what should have been a fun day in the mountains. Upon returning the bike, they charged me an outrageous CHF 145 for the really worn rear derailleur—a part that was clearly already past its useful time. This business provides terrible customer service and shows a blatant disregard for safety and quality. They are clearly profiting from one-time transactions with tourists who don't know better. Do yourself a favor: read the other one-star reviews on Google. There is a very good reason they have so many. I wish I had read them before I rented here. Rent your bikes somewhere else to avoid a similarly terrible experience.

We had the best bike ride of our lives. The e-bikes were perfect we had the hardtails which is all we needed. Monica at the store took the time and explained several routes and we did them and had the most spectacular views and experience and are extremely happy. They gave us everything we needed for the bike a lock bike tools and repair kit. We went out to the Stefan alp restaurant on the North slope of the Matterhorn and thoroughly enjoyed that then continued on to a hut very close to the end of a glacier. We then came back a different route through zmutt and would recommend that just a little more technical than the route up but not beyond our abilities. Would highly recommend was perfect for what we wanted to do.

Lake
Schwarzsee, also known as Black Lake, is a stunning alpine lake situated near Zermatt at the base of the Matterhorn. The trail to Schwarzsee offers breathtaking views of the iconic mountain and takes hikers through lush meadows adorned with vibrant wildflowers. The hike, which spans 5.5 miles round trip, presents a moderately challenging ascent of 2,185 feet and encompasses enchanting forests, babbling streams, and charming alpine lakes.
A small and tranquil lake next to the cable car station. On a clear day you might catch Breithorn in the lake's reflection (not Matterhorn though). Worth a short visit if you're taking the cable car up to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, just drop and reboard the cable car. We visited in summer and the weather was a pleasant 10+. Together with the grass and surrounding view, it's a good place to just sit and chill.

The lake of the Schwarzsee (2,552 m) lies right at the foot of the Matterhorn. The Schwarzsee (German for "Black Lake") is a small lake near Zermatt in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. It is located below the Matterhorn next to the mountain ridge (2,583 m (8,474 ft)) and to the cable car station of the same name at an elevation of 2,552 m (8,373 Its surface area is 0.5 ha. A chapel dedicated to Mary of the Snows – the chapel Maria zum Schnee – lies on the edge of the lake. It can be reached by cable car from Zermatt.

Mountain peak
Blauherd is a mountain in Zermatt that offers stunning views of the Matterhorn and can be accessed by gondola or chair lift, making it a popular spot for winter skiing. The area has a rich history of ski lifts and cable cars dating back to the 1940s, providing convenient access to various parts of the resort. Skiing options range from challenging black runs to beginner-friendly pistes, with opportunities for off-piste exploration.
The Blauherd peak and lift station is the starting point for two of the most enchanting trails around Zermatt: 5-Lakes and Crystal trails. We were lucky to meet a black nose sheep herd just close to Blauherd, near the Stellisee.
Horia B — Google review
Here's a great and easy itinerary that takes only about 2 hours, offers wonderful views of the Matterhorn, and is much cheaper than other options from Zermatt, is to climb to Blauherd on the gondola, walk 20 min to Stellisee (from where the ubiquitous photo of Matterhorn reflection in the lake was taken, and it's better than Riffelsee), then return to Blauherd, rent a mountain cart and ride it down to Sunegga. From Sunegga descend to Zermatt by funicular. At Blauherd don't forget to take a photo at the wooden heart frame, although you may have to be patient when young egocentric women spend a long time taking dozens of selfies there. From Sunegga you may choose to take a short detour to Leisee, particularly fun for kids. The combi ticket for Zermatt-Blauherd + Sunegga-Zermatt is 43 CHF as of Sep 2024. The mountain cart rental from Blauherd to Sunegga is 15 CHF and great fun!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I just had the most incredible week skiing with Matterhorn Diamonds in Zermatt, Switzerland, and I can't recommend them highly enough! From our very first interaction while organising our trip from Perth, the entire team was outstanding. They made planning effortless for our group of nine, even going above and beyond to arrange snowboard instructors for two members of our party. Having one dedicated contact made the process so smooth—special thanks to Rowena for her exceptional support! A huge shoutout to our fantastic instructors who made our experience unforgettable: Chris the pseudo diamond, patient Jack, amazing Ana, good friend Sebastian, and the greatest of all time, Juan! These guys are the 💣! Clearly love what they do and are eager to share that with others. Together, they created precious memories for all of us with loads of fun and laughter. If you're looking for ski instruction, whether you're a beginner or advanced skier, look no further—Matterhorn Diamonds is the place to go. You will not be disappointed! Thank you, team, for an amazing experience!

Juan showed me an absolutely amazing time on the slopes. I was able to really be myself in Zermatt around him, he was honestly the best thing about my trip. Speaking to him about the love for skiing and his excitement has influenced me. I’m no longer afraid to go and try on my own. I can’t wait until next year, I feel so confident because of this! I really can’t believe how fast he taught me. I was turning and skiing within the hour! I was able to send a video to my dad and family back home, as well as friends and colleagues. You will definitely have priority for ski lessons should anyone book. This has changed my entire world in winter sports and I will now be an annual skier. I really can’t say enough good things about this experience!

We booked a private lesson for 2 with Matterhorn Diamonds 2 weeks ago and it was the best decision ever. We were fortunate to have Lukáš as our instructor, which completely changed the way I see and enjoy skiing. He was patient and always looking for our moves and posture, giving advices and building the confidence and proper mindset to approach any slope. We started with less steep blue slopes and gradually increased the difficulty ending up doing red slopes and having one of our best times on ski. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who feels the need to take a few classes and learn how to approach slopes, improve their posture and gain confidence. Thank you Lukáš and Matterhorn Diamonds for the best ski experience and for making me love this sport!

Our experience with Juan and Rowena was exceptional! Last year, my 10-year-old daughter had an amazing time skiing with Juan, thanks to the quick arrangement made by Rowena, even on short notice. This year, we returned to Zermatt, and once again, Juan and Rowena provided us with another fantastic ski experience. Juan's week-long sessions with my daughter were not only enjoyable but also incredibly effective in improving her skills significantly. He managed to strike the perfect balance between keeping the sessions fun and challenging, resulting in my daughter developing a deeper love for the sport. Rowena, on the other hand, was incredibly patient and supportive as I navigated my way through the slopes as a beginner. Despite the unpredictable weather conditions, she ensured that our skiing experience remained engaging and fulfilling. With their guidance, we were able to explore various terrains and witnessed significant improvements in our skiing abilities. I wholeheartedly recommend both Juan and Rowena to anyone seeking top-notch ski instruction. We are already looking forward to returning soon for more unforgettable skiing adventures!

Matterhorn Diamonds were great to work with from start to finish! Some friends and I rented skis, boots, helmets, jackets and pants through their team and they coordinated a guide/instructor for our first day on the mountain. They accommodated all of my requests via email and were very prompt and friendly. I was so grateful for the wonderful ski day their team provided. Juan was our guide/instructor and he was absolutely splendid to spend the day skiing with. I have been skiing my whole life and consider myself an advanced/expert skier from Utah and he was able to provide helpful instruction on ways I could improve as the terrain here is different from my usual. The other skier in our party is more novice to skiing and she was very much improved and more confident at the end of the day with his expert instruction. Juan had such a detailed way of explaining ski movement making his instruction easy to implement on the slopes. He was knowledgeable about the mountain and it’s history/culture and accommodated everything we wanted to accomplish. He was truly wonderful and we so enjoyed our experience with him and the rest of the diamond team.

Nestled amidst the stunning Swiss Alps, Grunsee is a picturesque lake that enchants visitors with its serene green waters reflecting the majestic mountains above. Accessible via a delightful hiking trail, this hidden gem is part of the renowned 5 Lakes Walk, which meanders through five breathtaking lakes including Grindjisee and Stellisee. The hike to Grunsee is gentle and family-friendly, making it an ideal outing for adventurers of all ages.
Grünsee is definitely one of the better lakes out of the 5 lakes. It is somewhat out of the way but it does not disappoint when you get there! At Grünsee it is possible to have a swim at this one, making it the perfect half-way point for a dip and picnic etc. Take your time and enjoy the views! Easy to find if you just follow the 5 lake hike signposts or map. I’ve added a couple of extra photos of the hike up or down showing the gorgeous river!

A very small alpine lake at 2300m in Zermatt, accessible from Riffelalp or Riffelberg on the Gornergratbshn. Also from Blauherd or Sunnegga if you are following the five lakes trail. This trail goes: Blauherd > Stellisee > Grindjisee > Moosjisee > Leisee > Sunnegga This lake doesn't get Matterhorn reflections but of course can have reflections of the surrounding mountains. Note if you stand just right, back away from the lake, you can get a peakaboo view of the Matterhorn and the lake.
Wayne T — Google review
In my opinion, way more beautiful and clearer water than the other lakes. You can swim amongst large trout in blue-green crystal clear water. The silt is also extremely soft and feels wonderful on tired feet. There is also a mountain spring chute that feeds the lake where you can refill your bottle with ice cold water!

Five lake hike is a 9 km point to point hike. You need to get to Sunegga using funicular, take gondola to Baluherd and hike back to Sunegga visiting 5 beautiful lakes. Each lake is different and offers unique views of the iconic Matterhorn. Gondola was closed so we had to hike more but it was totally worth it.

Had an amazing experience here! First of all the staff were brilliant, all so kind and informative. We started off with a mulled wine and a tour of the igloos. We then got given our room keys, had a fondue dinner and had the option of a hike in the snow which was really fun. We then went back and had our own allocated time in the Jacuzzi or sauna (30 minutes each). Before bed we went in the hut which had a big fire in the middle with brownies plates on top to warm them up to eat - this was such a lovely idea!

Fantastic experience. My daughter and I stayed overnight in the jacuzzi suite. Yes, it was super cold but lots of opportunities to warm up! We dined in the restaurant /communal area on cheese fondue and bread with a lovely starter of nuts, sausage and bread. On arrival we were served mulled wine. The music that was played outside and within the bar was great which added a happy vibe. Our hosts Stephan and Esmeralda were very warm and friendly, they were very reassuring and had all bases covered in relation to our safety and any possible emergencies. The night snow shoe walk was the most enjoyable time with a 45min hike to a fantastic view that will stay with me forever! The sleeping bags kept us warm and once asleep I slept really well. The next morning concluded with a 10 minute walk to a ski lodge hotel for breakfast, which was delicious!

Went into Igloo to see and it looks nice, but I wouldn’t sleep there, it’s super cold inside despite all the clothes you wear. Yes, they have sleeping sacks to keep you warm, but still. It was a pleasing place. We reached by walk from Täsch Station and got mesmerised by the clean and bluish water. It’s really a beautiful place to visit.
