Cathedral
Place of worship
Bamberg Cathedral, also known as the Imperial Cathedral, is a 13th-century church that holds significant historical and artistic treasures. Originally built by Emperor Henry II, it features four spires and houses the tomb of Pope Clement II, the marble tombs of Henry II and Queen Cunigunda, as well as the famous Bamberg Horseman statue. The cathedral's late Romanesque and early Gothic architecture showcases remarkable sculptures, carvings, and choirs.
Great Cathedral very ornate. Great architecture, though it is getting some external renovation right now. A lot of cool architecture inside. Some famous statues of the king and wonderful tomb where the Lady is on the more honored side, basically because she was so beloved! There is a Pope buried in here, but I was not able to find it, though there were a few sections cordoned off.
Don D — Google review
No if you want to get a sense of the towns history visiting the Cathedral and exploring the connected / nearby buildings is a great place to start. We visited on a busy weekend but found it easy to move through the Cathedral at our own pace on a self guided tour. There were people available to answer questions and were were free to roam respectfully. Walking down to the catacomb was also a unique way to get a sense of history through the life of the space, which has had multiple fires. The stonework and scale is massive. I’m told they have music with the pipe organ on Saturdays but don’t know the details. I can only imagine what the massive organ sounds like during services.
Ross A — Google review
Beautiful cathedral. Make sure you go inside and see the only pope remains in Germany. Very cool!
Samantha T — Google review
Pope is buried in the back and on the square side door is relief of Jesus return. Worth the visit and cool on top of the hill.
Pekka M — Google review
Beautiful cathedral. Fine location to sit and reflect and lots of history! No crowds at all during the week.
Zach C — Google review
We were not able to go inside the cathedral during our visit. Only took some pictures from outside. There was alot of constuction going on. The architecture is exquisite yet somehow feels depressing. Just my opinion. Much more beautiful things to see in Bamberg.
Deanna W — Google review
Bamburg Catheredal of St Peter and St George. Construction of the church was completed in the 13th century. Great to visit.

It was much bigger than I realized. Perhaps not as beautiful as other cathedrals but seeing Der goldener Reiter inside was a Highlight.

Historic Sites
The Altes Rathaus, also known as the Old Town Hall, is a historic landmark and porcelain museum located on an island accessible by pedestrian bridges. Dating back to the 14th century, it has a fascinating backstory: due to the Bishop of Bamberg's refusal to allocate land for a town hall, residents built it on stakes in the River Regnitz. The building received a Baroque update in the 18th century and is adorned with famous frescoes.
What a spectacular courthouse. Built on a bridge in the middle of a river, & adorned with wonderful paintings. The little portside & its wooden crane are just below it. A gondolier plies his gondola tour up the Am Kanal, a side stream beside it. In the middle of the Bamberg old town, the surrounding architecture is well worth walking around, This is a classic of Franconia.
JB L — Google review
Fascinating historical landmark, famous for its unique location. According to legend, the city's citizens built it on an artificial island in the middle of the Regnitz River after the bishop refused to grant them land. It now houses the Ludwig Collection, a museum of porcelain and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Rob P — Google review
One of the iconic images of Bamburg. Really pretty building and a really scenic view. Detailed decorative architecture and fresco-ish external painting. The best view is from the bridge that shows the front of the building. Which is by the Tower Lots of cool stuff in that area to see as well.

Klein Venedig, also known as Little Venice, is a picturesque row of small half-timbered cottages located along the east bank of the Regnitz River in Bamberg. These charming houses were once inhabited by fishermen and their families, giving the area its name which means 'fishery'. The cottages are built on poles directly over the water and are adorned with tiny gardens and terraces.
Klein Venedig is one of the most beautiful and traditional spots in Bamberg. The scenery is absolutely stunning – picturesque houses along the river, charming views and an atmosphere that feels like stepping back in time. It’s the perfect place for a relaxing walk, to take photos, and to enjoy the authentic charm of Bamberg. A must-see location if you want to experience the true beauty of the city. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Bamberg!

Klein Venedig is located on the Regnitz River, near the intersection with the Main-Danube Canal. It is characterized by its charming row of colorful half-timbered houses lining the river, creating a delightful and romantic atmosphere. It is a great place to relax, have a meal and enjoy the atmosphere.

Great place to spend a day but really crowded , the day I visited so I had to change my plan spending the day there and went back at noon
Bony F — Google review
According to the information, it is called "Little Venice" These are the boatmen's and fishermen's houses that received this romantic name from King Maximilian 1 (1848-1864). It celebrated the festively illuminated every year in Agust for the Sandkerwa. Indeed, a nice and beautiful houses along the clean Linker Regnitzarm. I observed that there was no benches on the opposite to have relax whilst watching those boats pass by and the houses too. Include this in your bucket list if you are visiting Bamberg. It's for free and no ticket at all.
John T — Google review
Views of Little Venice in Bamberg refers to a charming row of 15th-16th century half-timbered houses that line the northern shore of the River Regnitz to the west of the Upper Bridge. I enjoyed seeing the Little Venice viewpoint at this location identified as Klein Vendig on maps of the city centre. You can see the old fisherman houses quite nicely from here.

Church
Historical landmark
St. Martin's Church, also known as Pfarrkirche St. Martin, is a prominent baroque church in Bamberg with notable Jesuit architecture and stunning frescoes adorning its walls and ceilings. The highlight of the church is its impressive pulpit and the false dome that creates an illusion of a real dome on the ceiling. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere inside this magnificent building, which serves as a great escape from the heat and hustle of the town.
a Franconian baroque church from 1686. the fassade has statues of Jesus and Mary. the internal Dom ceiling is a work of illusion and give the impression of Dome Form. other Characteristics are the altars and shrines.
David A — Google review
St. Martin is a nice church to visit at Grüner Markt in Bamberg. Historically there have been monastery and churches at this location since at least the 13th-century. However, the building you see today was built by Jesuit brothers Georg and Leonhard Dientzenhofer (1686-1693) and is Baroque in architectural style. The exterior features a clock face along with numerous statue filled niches. Within you will find white walls lined with elegant altarpieces indicative of Baroque churches. There is a charming ceiling fresco in the manner of fellow Jesuit Andrea Pozzo's famous illusionary dome that is remarkable to see. This seems to have been the work of painter Giovanni Francesco Marchini in 1716. Definitely worth a few minutes to see St. Martin when visiting Bamberg.
Brad — Google review
History said that it was built between 1687 to 1691 by the Dietzenhofer's brothers but in 1803 it was used as the Parish Church. The fact is that, the only baroque church in the Bamberg place. From the outside, spectacular structural design with the 8 sculptures on it. During my visit, it was observed that there were no stalls outside which you can see how beautiful it is. From the inside, breathtaking altar, a marvelous and astonishing painting on the ceiling. In here, you must observe silence, respect to their beliefs and dress properly. There is no entrance ticket nor admission fee in this wonderful church
John T — Google review
The church, built between 1687 and 1691 by the Dietzenhofer brothers, later served as a Parish Church from 1803. It stands out as the sole baroque church in Bamberg. Its exterior boasts a striking structural design adorned with eight sculptures. Inside, visitors are greeted with a breathtaking altar and a magnificent ceiling painting. Respectful behavior, including silence and appropriate attire, is expected. Admission is free, making it a must-visit in Bamberg. While my visit was brief, the church left a lasting impression, prompting me to recommend it as a refreshing stop during hot summer days. My time was limited as I was eager to explore the UNESCO heritage sites in the city. This Jesuit-founded church is renowned for its beautiful architecture, frescoed walls and ceilings, and notable pulpit. A particularly intriguing feature is the false dome, which creates the illusion of a dome-like structure on the ceiling. Despite this, the church remains a stunning place to visit and receive blessings.
Joel J — Google review

Robinia O — Google review
If you're an international tourist, it's not a good idea to visit this museum. Unfortunately just a handful of texts have been translated to English, everything else is in German, which is such a pity considering how large their collections are. Come only if you have seen the nice outdoor places Bamberg has to offer, or if it's a really rainy day. No credit card accepted at the ticket shop. But staff was friendly.
Ronald N — Google review
A good museum about a place where not a lot has happened. Could be greatly improved by more English explanations and long form narratives. Also more interactivity. Themed more around regional activities than a historical narrative, this nevertheless is a worthy place to gen up on all things Bamburg.

Bambados, located in Bamberg, is a state-of-the-art indoor aquatics center built according to passive house standards. It prides itself on being the first of its kind in Europe and focuses on the themes of family, sports, and ecology. The waterpark offers attractions for all age groups including wave pools, swimming lessons, a toddler pool, and splash zone. Additionally, it features a 2-story wellness center with saunas, massage rooms, and steam rooms.
This place is simply the best during summer. Very affordable, 50m pool with chrystal clear water, you can bring your own food, and nobody will touch your stuff when you leave it out in the open.

Pros: Good location. Good facilities. Cons: Only takes cash while entering inside. No debit/credit card payment available (2022). Water in the pools are not temperature controlled. Too cold even in summer. No facilities for warm shower after/before using the swimming pools. That's sad & bad. Plz consider putting up "warm shower" facilities for the guests inside. Thanks.

Nice place to stay in a hot day, but when there is a lot of people - not very comfortable. Looks clean and safe - that's important
Lyudmila K — Google review
I bought a sauna ticket for 1 hour and 30 minutes. After this time, I went to the reception and asked if I could buy another 1 hour and 30 minutes, but only for the pool (no sauna). To my question, the woman at the reception answered me that I can then pay 1.50 € after 1 hour and 30 minutes when I leave. When I left the pool, she told me that I had to pay 4€ without giving any reason. When asked to give a check with an explanation of what I was paying for, they refused me and called the chief. The chief could not explain anything plainly, behaved very embittered and communicated in a pointing tone. This concludes all my visits to this pool. I do not recommend a visit. Staff attitude is terrible. Exactly the same was done with my friend, with whom we were together

12. Aug: I love that there is a wave pool, but I don’t find this to be a safe place. If you are not a strong swimmer, or someone from your group is not.. stay away. There are lifeguards around, but they really are inconsistent and frankly careless. I say this as a former lifeguard and trainer in the US. No constant scanning, sometimes two standing together with both backs to one pool, sometimes with a phone out and so on and so on. Very reckless if you prioritize safety. If this was a pool in the US I would have called to report them. I also would have taken photos for proof, but no cameras allowed by the pool because Datenschutz. Don’t know where that is in Germany. TERRIBLE safety, but unfortunately one of the few open places to cool down on a hot day.

(Translated by Google) We wanted to listen to the JMO Trio, but didn't even come in because the organizer had hired a service provider who preferred to be very precise. My friend was only able to show his ID as a photo on his cell phone, but was supposed to present the real "physical" one as proof of vaccination. When we asked to ask the person in charge to make the decision about this, the man at the door said he was his own boss and was the only one who decided who was allowed in and who wasn't. He himself stood in front of us and smoked while on duty! Do we even have to understand something like this? We had traveled from Nuremberg specifically for this event and were extremely disappointed to be turned away at the door. Unfortunately, the organizer could not be reached by phone either, despite the announcement that they would be available from 6 p.m.

This museum is dedicated to Franconian beer and everything associated with it. It has an extensive collection of brewing equipment, including beer mats and tankards from across Franconia. The museum is well-maintained, with a bar for visitors to try the various beers on offer. It is not suitable for those with mobility issues or who cannot do a fair number of stairs.
A very pleasant experience. It's not a large space but it does an excellent job of telling the story of brewing in Franconia. Most of the displays are well labelled, although there are some which are not labelled at all, but they were very few. WARNING: the meuseum is spread over five levels. Some have many stairs to access. This museum is well worth the admission (4€). Set aside ±2hrs to get the most of it.

Interesting museum for all who want to learn more about beer, its history, cultural importance, brewing process etc. There are plenty of exhibits, collections, etc. But all the information is only available in German.

Maybe it doesn’t have the most exciting exposition but it has such a great atmosphere and history. If you’re into the beer brewing I can recommend visiting museum 100%

Great museum in an old cloister brewery. The museum shows all the stages of brewing beer (and ingredients) as well as the business side of brewing. Lots of old advertising signs etc. Mug collections. It's like an attic full of interesting things for beer lovers. Lots of steps. Very nice staff.

Used the Bamberger Pre-Paid pass to get in. A very cool and interesting museum. Sad to see the damage to exhibits from powder post beetles that appear to still be active and alive.

If you're interested in Franconian beer and everything associated with it, this is the place for you. The copy of the Bavarian Purity Laws alone made it worth my time! It's not huge and could benefit from some more multilingual signage for some of the more interesting/complex/historical exhibitions but the sheer amount of breweriana under one roof makes it a worthwhile stop off. There's also a bar so you can put your education into practice! I should add it isn't suitable for anyone with mobility issues or who can't do a fair number if relatively steep stairs.

Bamberg Old Town is a captivating destination that boasts a rich tapestry of history and stunning architecture. This UNESCO World Heritage site features beautifully preserved half-timbered houses and the iconic Bamberg Cathedral, which stands as a testament to its medieval roots. One of the highlights is the Water City Hall, uniquely perched on an artificial island in the Regnitz River, connected by charming stone bridges.
Plenty of reasons to visit medieval old town of Bamberg that kept its charm through centuries. Cathedral / New Residence square and rose garden were impressive but true highlight of the walk was area around old town hall on small island in the river.

Extremely beautiful town. Driving is complicated so sort out where you’re going to park before you come. Parking is 2-2.50€/hour. Plenty of hotels, cafes, restaurants, bars, markets and services as it is also has a University campus with plenty of facilities, libraries, etc.

We had an absolutely wonderful time in this beautiful city. From the moment we arrived, the charm of the streets, the stunning architecture, and the vibrant atmosphere made the experience unforgettable. The food was incredible—every meal felt like a highlight, full of authentic flavors and local specialties that left us wanting more. What really stood out was the overall vibe of the city: lively yet welcoming, with a perfect balance of culture, history, and modern energy. It was the kind of trip where every moment felt special, and we left already planning our return.

Alina Y — Google review
We have been visiting Bambini Kinderwelt since they opened 3 years ago. Have spent small birthday there and visited the place on a regular basis as it seemed like almost the only option for cold winterdays. I always thought the food is a bit cheap and (considering it is a place for kids)very unhealthy ( chicken nuggets, pommes, pizza)no healthy option. The slides by 4 in the afternoon weren't slippery and the battery of the cars are empty. They only work just that much to suck your money in.... and there is noone to tell you that forehand . Health and safety wise big issues as the staff is only at the reception/kitchen. Of course you look after your children but it would be expected from a size of place like this to have extra staff who repairs broken equipment or charges the cars. Anyhow I have been overlooking this issues as my kids enjoyed themselves there. Today we booked a party for my 5 year old daughter and I wish we didn't. The staff from catering was so unfriendly because I dared to ask an extra plastic cup for our table....as the low quality water and apple juice ( limittless according to the website)drinks are only for the kids😕...and literary I just bought a tea to myself too. After this I tried to use for an extra Euro, a massage seat. The machine didn't work and money was gone....I asked member of staff if she could help me, refund me or so...she said I should call the number which stated on the chair to get a refund???!!! I should deal with the machine which is on their premises. And than she switched the machine off and back ...so I could try to put money in again, but with no guarantee that the machine works😕 Later before 6 our friends came to collect their kids from our party. They took their shoes off and waited with their jackets on in the restaurant whilst the kids were finishing their ice cream....obviously they didn't want to spend longer time their.....the very same member of staff told them to leave or pay.!!!!!After this just the regular auto battery problems happened..token/money in, no return. Along this I noticed lots of broken parts of the soft play area...which urgently needs to be repaired as they are hazardous. I am quite certain that Bambini lost 4 customers today with their low customer service policy and standards. What was really bad about this whole experience that we payed 80€ for the party plus spent an other 15€ on ice-cream, etc and we have been treated like we wanted to cheat with their drinks, entry ticket and so one. I wouldn't recommend birthday party at Bambini to anybody.
Reka M — Google review
Pretty messed up. They should do online ticket service. We've been in a waiting line for 1 hrs. Abour 20 to 30 kids in tbat line. They didn't offer a ball for the kids to play, no chairs for kids. Besides that inside was fun as always. Head up to the workers who were confronted with a hard situation

The Hainbadestelle outdoor swimming pool, located in the Luisenhain area, is a serene and picturesque spot that offers an ideal setting to unwind and relax during summer. The bathing spot has been in existence since 1935 and sits on the left bank of Regnitzarm with changing rooms, showers, restrooms, a modest snack bar, kiddie pool as well as a grassy area for those who prefer to bask under trees' shade.
Super place to go swimming with friends and family. Could be cold at first but you get quickly used to it. During the day you can get some nice sun while in the evening they host outside cinemas which you need to buy a ticket for though.

The Hainbadestelle is perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, and of course, a swim in the river. Plenty of wooden sunbathing floors and benches are available. There are also numerous trees providing shade on grass lawns. There is a relatively large play area for the children. The atmosphere is mostly relaxed and quiet. A cute cafeteria stands ready with cooldrinks, icecream, and some meal options. The bathrooms are rather small but in good condition, although the floors can become a little wet due to the people swimming. Many changerooms and lockers are available. I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day there and would gladly go more often if I lived nearby. Once-off tickets are inexpensive and season tickets are also available.

Amazing spot to swim in the Regnitz river - beautifully located with a view on the old town of Bamberg.
Mathias B — Google review
I discovered this hidden gem after moving into my new apartment by the Regnitz River. I absolutely love spending time there throughout the summer, even into October. Sunbathing by the water and then taking a refreshing dip in the river feels absolutely magical. The people there are really nice too.
Mo B — Google review
Absolutely loved my experience here. The water was warm, nice tanning on the wooden platforms, bathrooms available and friendly people everywhere.

What an incredible find in the city of Bamberg! An outdoor swimming pool that uses the river as its pool. It’s well worth a visit, especially on a warm summers day. Changing and shower facilities as well as an on site cafe.
Lewis D — Google review
Awesome place to refresh during a hot day. They have changing rooms, toilettes, showers, a small snack bar, swimming pool for children and a grass area where you rest under the shadow of a tree. It is just 10 minutes walking from the center of Bamberg.
