Lodge
Nestled in the Chattahoochee National Forest, Unicoi State Park & Lodge is a charming mountain retreat just two miles from Helen. The park offers a plethora of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, and paddling adventures. Visitors can explore remnants of the late 1800s gold rush and enjoy scenic trails that lead to mountain summits and picturesque waterfalls.
Stayed 3 nights in September 2025. Was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Room was very comfortable and clean. Appears to have been remodeled not long ago. We ate two evening meals. The menu was very limited. They really need to add more items like pasta, regular size burgers, and more variety. If you have a problem, just ask for Executive Chef Matthew Humphrey. He will make it right and make sure you leave happy. Cannot say enough good things about him. Servers were friendly and wait time short. If we decide to return we will definitely stay here.

I have been a frequent visitor of Unicoi for about 7 years now. This week we got married in the park, and had a great time. I had to depart for a family emergency early and Ms. Patty was outstanding in listening and being kind. This park, it’s always clean and friendly. You can see wildlife all year round here. (Our favorite is the armadillos). If you go please be safe, keep it clean and make memories here.

Beautiful hotel and beautiful location. The two restaurants/bar are great. A little hard to get to some room with a bunch of baggage though lifts and ramps are there. We had a great view from our room and a staff member said it was the best room. Lots of places to sit and hang out outside. Fire pits available etc. There is a shuttle to take you into town and back. Super clean, great room service people. I liked it and would stay again.
Sarah S — Google review
Overall: great! Good: End of October, leaves changing, first frost, great time. Service was excellent: needed extra bedding, no problem. Food was great. Shuttle was good and very convenient. Take the trip up to Anna Ruby Falls ($5/person). It's a short hike, but was good. Bad: Mattress was a bit older inner spring, a bit of a hard time sleeping. Shower did need some caulk to prevent leaking. Could smell someone smoking dope occasionally; no fault of lodge. Overall, a great stay. Would do again.
Matt M — Google review
Ana Ruby Falls was beautiful! First off! And the paved trail was very accommodating to my uncle who has had knee replacement. We used the “Seek” app to identify plant species along the trail. We read every one of the fact plaques along the way as well. Truly wonderful way to spend the afternoon and the company that manages the gift shop and gate employ wonderful people!

We are enjoying our stay at Unicoi State Park. Our group of 11 rented two cabins (a three bedroom and a 2 bedroom one). Chris handled our check in and was nice and helpful. We drove to our cabins and we were having problems with one of our key cards and JT (maybe one of the cleaning staff?) helped us out. He also kindly carried a case of water for me that started slipping out of my hands. We knew the cabins were rustic so that didn’t bother us. It had what we needed. I stayed at one of the barrel cabins. There are two bedrooms upstairs and a sleeper sofa downstairs. There is only one bathroom and it is located downstairs. Be mindful that that there are a lot of stairs if renting one of these cabins, from getting your stuff to the cabin to climbing to your bedrooms. We made it work but we definitely broke a sweat! The cabins are about 8 minutes from town on windy roads. I was the nights DD and you really do not want to navigate the roads after even with one drink (I didn’t drink anything). The beer hall we went to served NA beer along with other options. We were in the B cabins and the rest of our group was in the C cabins. It was a fairly easy walk between the two. Just be mindful to stay off the paved road. There was some traffic with a blind turn. I had read there wasn’t a lot of seating so we packed camping chairs and used them on the back deck. The deck has two Adirondack chairs and the dinning table had four chairs we could have moved out there. I packed all my toiletries in a separate large canvas bag and that was super helpful since we had to carry it down the steps to use the bathroom/shower. There is a hair drier but it wasn’t very strong. I was glad I packed mine from home. Water pressure and temperature was good. I read people had trouble with cell service but we were fine. Overall this is a nice option if you plan on sating in Helen.

What a great experience. The barrel cabins were awesome! Location is perfect and staff is friendly! Perfect jumping off point to visit all the trails and waterfalls in North Georgia! We loved it are going back in December!

Lovely scenery with lake. Plenty of shade from all the trees at campsites. Trails close to campground.very hilly site especially to the comfort station. Campground was well maintained. All utilities worked. Plenty of trash receptacles.

Roller coaster
The Georgia Mountain Coaster offers an exhilarating experience as visitors ride through the forest in small, high-speed carts. As the first alpine coaster in the state, it has been a popular attraction for thrill-seekers of all ages. With speeds exceeding 28 miles per hour, riders can control their cart's speed with brakes. Located in downtown Helen, this nearly 1-mile coaster provides entertainment for families and offers a fun Alpine-themed adventure.
End of September, I'm guessing prefect timing for no tourist, because we had no lines. They are set up for a line of 200 people so I can imagine it gets busy. Friendly staff, discount for military, half off second ride, and even a free second ride if it's your birthday. Self controlled speed, but i did all throttle the whole way. Staff said max speed is 27 mph, with 3 spots that will slow you down if you fast. There are only 2 jerk spots and they are at the beginning at the sharp turns. Again I was full throttle. Time wise, it was a quick ride, but super fun. We did it twice and would bring friends and family here. Side notes. They have lockers, and new hair ties for people with long hair (required to be in a bun), kid friendly, and safety conscious staff. Right off of the main road of Helen.
Bruce H — Google review
Pros - Went early on a Tuesday, no wait in line Shaded in trees so not terribly hot in Summer Ability to control speed Fun track, nothing too crazy Second ride is discounted, but we didn't do a second run as we were on a schedule Cons - Short ride, luckily did not wait too long Ability to control speed - if the person in front of you is leisurely coasting and you want a fast run, you're stuck going slow. Would be nice if they could allow more time between riders for the opportunity for those that prefer a fast run. Overall a pretty cool experience. I think $17 for the ride is pretty up there, but still glad we tried it. Bags not allowed on but they have lockers to rent, or just leave your things in your car. Ladies, make sure your long hair is tied up.
Dara P — Google review
Fun ride! Inexpensive for the thrill. Moderate wait, but wasn’t too bad. Did have a discount for second trip. Fully self controlled speed. Did not have any bad jerks like a roller coaster. 84 year old father was able to ride and enjoy - so great for young and young at heart.
Stephen B — Google review
So much fun for all ages. We did go during oktoberfest and on the weekend so line can get long. Also remember tp keep your receipt that is your ticket for the ride.
Julie S — Google review
Long line when I got there. Waited about 30 minutes and the ride was only about 3 minutes long..but it was surprisingly good. Be sure to bury your phone deep in a pocket if you're going to go down full speed!!
Michael B — Google review
Fun ride. Control your own speed with the handles. Friendly staff. A little pricy for the short ride but overall really fun.
Jamie G — Google review
Fastest mountain coaster I've been on. Friendly staff. Your receipt is your ticket which is different from all other coaster I've rode. Slightly more expensive than others but overall great experience. Worth the visit.
Kenneth ( — Google review
Awesome experience! Love that you can control your speed and the views are amazing. I’m not the biggest fan of rollercoasters and went twice it was that fun! Attempted to buy tickets online the day before, but couldn’t find an option to do so. Not a big deal though because even if the line might look long, it moves super quick. Definitely recommend giving this a go when you’re in Helen!

Miniature golf course
Located in the Alpine village of Helen, GA, Alpine Mini Golf offers a unique experience with its 18-hole course designed like an Alpine village. The course features beautiful gardens between holes and even welcomes pets to join in on the fun. After a round of putt-putt, visitors can enjoy a picnic at one of the designated spots within the golf course. The picturesque setting makes it a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike.
We visited 9/21/24 around 9:30 AM and were the first ones to start playing mini golf that day. There is a discount if you pay with cash. It was around 68 when we started to play and around 78 degrees when we finished. There are seats and shaded areas to take breaks from the sun. I imagine it is tougher to play between 11-3 PM on a hot/sunny day. There is a cute overview display case of the miniature golf area inside the start of the store. There were some putting ranges to practice at the start. We spent 1.5 hours playing 18 holes of mini golf. It felt like we were mini golfing in a beautiful park. The area was well kept/maintained, though there were some spiders & webs up in trees. There is a wonderful lady that takes great care of the mini golf course. You could tell they care about the experience for their patrons. If you hold onto your card and revisit later, you get to play again 50% off. It looks very interesting to play at night (not trying to spoil too much, but it's well lit) when we drove past it the evening before so we will be revisiting :]
Bobak E — Google review
The obstacles left us longing for more — they were mostly all straight shots with a little slope or turn, but there is one excellent hill/wiggle/tunnel to the hole in the very back. It’s blazing hot on sunny days in the summer, so an epic choice to have an ice cream shop next door!
Maria R — Google review
Such a charming, adorable, & beautiful mini golf course! Perfect for a date night. We saw that they have an ice cream place & some merch available for sale. Definitely recommend this place for mini golf lovers 😇
Caitlin T — Google review
$25 for two adults was a bit steep. It’s 18 holes that are competitive. The location could use a bit of an update. It’s okay to make some cool changes and still stay with the German theme. We had a great time and we made sure to TAKE are time and not feel rushed. Go during the week!
Sarah — Google review
Such a cute place! Easy to follow course. A few loose bricks here and there, but nothing too bad. Quick to play, and the ice cream shop is adorable. Fun way to spend an hour or so on a sunny day!
Emily T — Google review
My husband and I visited Helen for the first time: we shopped, we ate, we went on the coaster, and we ended our afternoon with a round of mini golf and a scoop of ice cream at Alpine Golf & Scoop De Scoop. The beautiful details of the alpine theme were so fun! The greens are in great shape, and the creek running through the grounds added to the beauty of the experience. Lorelei checked us in and was very pleasant and friendly. We will definitely come back with the kids.
Lisa K — Google review
It had lots of flowers and was pretty. 18 holes with a free game if you get a hole in one on number 8.

4Hansel & Gretel Candy Kitchen

Candy store
Located in the heart of Helen, Georgia, Hansel & Gretel Candy Kitchen has been a beloved attraction since 1973. Visitors can tour the factory to witness the creation of delectable treats like fudge and peanut brittle before indulging in some samples at the shop. With an extensive array of chocolates and candies, including classics like chocolate-covered strawberries, this is a must-visit destination for anyone with a sweet tooth.
Visiting Helen for first time, was passing through from Blue Ridge, Georgia area (traveled from North Florida). My friend and I were on vacation for 3 days in Blue Ridge, GA. area, and before heading back to Florida, decided to spend some time in Helen, GA (12-09-2024: Sunday). I am thankful we had opportunity, the area is beautiful, and the town seemed scenic and fun! The two of us explored a little bit of town, had an early dinner locally, and came across Hansel & Gretel Candy Kitchen. The establishment looked very nice (and clean), and once stepping inside, smelled incredibly fantastic! The staff of shop all seemed very nice as well as helpful if needed assistance. There was certainly something for just about everyone! They offered some daily samples (or if something wanted to try, I believe they were happy to help). Being a younger person, there was a slightly older gentleman who helped my friend i was with, she ordered or picked up few pieces of Fudge. He had asked us how we were, and if traveling. Pleasant conversation, as well wished us safe travels. I hope to make it back to Helen, GA again sometime soon! Thank you everyone for wonderful experience, and quality items
DeepSea T — Google review
June 14, 2025. Let me start by saying they have a great selection of different types of chocolates and candies. We tried several different types of fudge, and they were all wonderful. We bought an assortment of truffles. They had so many different flavors. If you are in Helen, Georgia, this is a spot you have to visit.
Tj M — Google review
Hansel & Gretel Candy Kitchen is a must-stop in Helen. The shop is charming, with plenty of handmade chocolates, fudge, and candies made fresh right there. The atmosphere is cozy and delightful, perfect for anyone who loves quality sweets. Prices are fair considering the variety and craftsmanship. Friendly and attentive service makes the visit even better. Definitely worth a stop!
Paulo P — Google review
A sweet treat for all ages. The shop is full of handmade chocolates, fudges, and candies, all crafted with care and quality. The smell alone draws you in, and the variety makes it hard to choose just one thing. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the old-world charm of the store fits perfectly with Helen’s Bavarian feel. A must-visit if you have a sweet tooth!
Lissa V — Google review
I’m going to be so honest here. It is pricey but it’s HELEN. Like they are there to open and make money. The staff was extremely helpful and so SWEET but the quality of the chocolates and caramel on the apples tasted burnt. Which sucks because that’s ALL I was craving for my Octoberfest trip. It was an expensive experience. They have the Dubai chocolate too.
Sarah — Google review
The people who work there are very friendly. It's hard to choose with all the chocolate options and unique flavors they have. I ended with some of the best ones they pick for me, and all were delicious.
Yendri T — Google review
Bought 4 chocolate covered strawberries. Ate 2 and saved the other 2 for the next day. When I opened the box the next day to eat the other 2, they were molded. So gross! That should not have happened. That means they were already going bad. I paid almost $12 for 4 chocolate covered strawberries.
L C — Google review
This is sad. My family moved up to Cleveland GA in 1994 and we all started going to Helen on a regular basis. Everyone in the town used to be so nice. We went to Helen about a month ago and it has all changed. It has become so commercial and more of a tourist destination and unfortunately we didn't run into anyone that was very friendly. This is Georgia guys! What happened to "southern hospitality"?! As we were leaving we stopped by this fudge shop where we have been shopping all these years. The lady there was extremely unfriendly and kind of short in her answers when we asked a couple questions. I even think the new owner, (because it definitely has changed hands) was standing about 6 feet from her and never said a word. He even looked at us as she was talking. They pretty much doubled their prices. My mom loved the fudge here but it is not the same. It definitely isn't worth doubling the price. No matter how nice the chocolate case looks it's all about the taste. We have been going here so long that we know what it used to taste like. If someone says it's awesome I think they are just overwhelmed with the looks of the candy and doesn't really know any better. I think there still is another fudge shop deeper along the main street in the heart of Helen so maybe try that one instead. I hope they read my review and consider making some changes. And actually there used to be other people in this shop every time we would go there but this time there wasn't anyone there. Maybe they all know already, lol. TO THE SHOP OWNER - We hope you get it together and take this review seriously. You are a convenient location but if the service and the product are sub-standard, you will lose more customers along with us!

Helen Tubing in the town of Helen offers a range of outdoor activities, from hiking and fishing to more adventurous options like rafting, kayaking, and ziplining. The water park is a popular spot for thrilling rides and leisurely river journeys. Visitors can also explore the town's charming shops and restaurants for a more relaxed experience. Tips include booking online to save time, starting from the south office for tubing, and opting for a one-hour trip due to rocks slowing down the journey.
Had a great time tubing with Helen Tubing! It’s one of the two main tubing companies in Helen and is located right next to Cool River Tubing. I noticed it was less crowded, which made the experience more relaxing. Plus, it’s about $2 cheaper per person! River tubing in Helen is always a blast, and this spot made it even better. Highly recommend if you're looking for a fun and chill float down the river!
Yong C — Google review
Thick & comfy tubes! Friendly staff! Great day! ☀️ We LOVED our tubing day! The process was easy and simple. The float ride was just the right amount of time. Can’t wait to go again!
Christy M — Google review
This was absolutely unsafe and I would not recommend. I brought my mom after being told it was a smooth and easy activity. There were so many rocks, we were stuck every few minutes. They said it would take about an hour to 1.5 hrs to float to the end point-It took 3.5. The sticks they make you buy were so slippery and useless. There were a few sharp drop offs with larger rocks. They said the water was at a higher level so I’m not sure what it would be like if it was lower- a dry creek bed? There’s no staff along the way or any type of guide like I’ve seen at other locations. So if you are hurt or stuck, you’re on your own! We asked questions about ease and safety before stating and were assured it was beginner friendly. That was not our experience at all. I can’t believe we both made it without any type of injury or concussion. The parts you can see from the entrance and town make it look like a lazy river. If you like spending hours stuck on rocks with a few brief periods where you actually float, then this might be your place.
Jenn 1 — Google review
A Fun and Relaxing Mountain Experience Helen tubing is a must-do activity if you're visiting the North Georgia mountains during warmer months. Floating down the Chattahoochee River is both relaxing and fun, offering scenic views, light rapids, and a refreshing way to beat the heat. It's a great experience for families, couples, or groups of friends. The tubing process is generally well-organized, with shuttle services and tube rentals available at reasonable prices. Water levels can vary, so be prepared for some parts to be shallow or a little bumpy. Water shoes are highly recommended, and bringing a waterproof bag for your belongings is a smart move. Overall, it's a laid-back outdoor adventure that captures the charm of Helen and its beautiful natural surroundings. Great for a half-day of simple, riverside fun!
Mohan K — Google review
This was a great experience! The river is perfect. There are multiple small drops which make it really fun. The water is the perfect temperature. Great time! Definitely would recommend
Chase C — Google review
Okay! Get this. It's a workout for sure, but it's completely worth it. Wear the right shoes. They will save your feet. You will get wet, it is cold, you will get up close and personal with other people floatin', but all of it is a lot of fun and takes the full two hours as advertised. If your kids are old enough to not be tethered to you, then go without. Being tethered together does make it harder, but it's all still fun either way. Try to go after a rainstorm, less likely to get stuck in rocks, which WILL happen. Be patient and have fun.
Kirsten B — Google review
This is an ideal destination for family particularly children in the summer to enjoy exciting water activities. You’ll have over an hour to relax on the river — a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
John T — Google review
We rented tubes and the process was seamless, fast, and well organized. My mom actually took a tumble and got scraped up and we had to come back early and the staff made sure she had all the bandages and first aid stuff that she needed to take back to the hotel with us and even gave us a free pass to try again next time. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about them. Can’t wait to go back again.

But the real magic is out back, where you’ll discover a breathtaking river view that’s simply unforgettable. It’s the perfect place to visit with family and take home something special. Truly a place worth visiting and remembering!
Natalia A — Google review
A historic 19th century, still working, grist mill the Nora Mill offers a nice selection products made on site. There are also shelves of local jams, jellies, pie fillings and home goods- including some gorgeous speckle ware and wooden utensils. Well worth a visit, but be aware that parking here can be difficult. There are limited spaces and the lot is directly next to a major road. Backing out can be a challenge.
Laura H — Google review
Fun collection of flours and grits milled here at the mill! Along with lots of cooking and baking supplies both tools and things to cook and eat. A nice place to visit at a very scenic spot on the river. Getting in and out of the parking lot can be nerve wracking however.

Great history and general store rolled into one . Employees are very knowledgeable on all aspects of the working of the grinding process of the old ways of our past.

We went in just to buy some freahly milled grain and found they had so much more! Baking mixes, jams, jellies, preserves of all kinds-some I'd nevee heard of. Many cooking items, hot sauces, pickles, soup mixes! Our one bag of flour ended up being 3 grocery bags full! Such fun! I wish we lived closer!
Kate — Google review
We had a fantastic time at the Mill and were able to purchase some yellow cornmeal that we will use in Thanksgiving and Christmas recipes. The staff were very friendly and it was wonderful to see the history of the place. This is a great stop on your trip to Helen
Sheila B — Google review
Such a fantastic piece of history still in use today. We made the trip just for their grits!! My parents always bring them to us and they are so good. Once we found out we were close to Nora Mill we drove up and purchased our own.
V J — Google review
Loved the vibe here. So eclectic, and filled with great antique items which makes you feel that olden day warmth. Lots of goodies to purchase at reasonable prices. My favorite item was the tiny wooden taste tester spoons (not the cheap kind)😊 You'll find everything from Grits, to pancake/biscuit mixing powder, jellies, syrups, cooking tools, muffin mixes and more. River behind is beautiful. Definitely worth the stop!

This was a fabulous fun time for the whole family. On a hot summer day. The water was low we would recommend buying the $5 stick to use to push yourself off the Rocks as the water was low at times you get stuck but not for long, we still had a blast. We're looking forward to doing it again. Very well-organized company with the convenience of the bus bringing you back to your starting location.
Nancy D — Google review
Had an incredible time tubing down the hooch. We loved that they are dog friendly as well. They offer 1 or 2 hour floats. We opted for 1, since the river water was low. They offer free parking and I recommend renting a stick to maneuver yourself. They sell everything you need if you forget it, but we brought our own water shoes and waterproof phone pouches.
Renette F — Google review
Great place to use for your river tubing. Staff is super friendly, got lots of info before buying tickets. The line is moving fairly quickly. Lots of parking. 2 location. 2nd location has zip lining. They have dressing rooms avaiable and the bus will take you to the 1 or 2 hours tubing location. Price for the 1 and 2 hours tubbing is the same. You can bring you dog as well! Better to go earlier in the day. We wrnt at 12 noon.
Angy D — Google review
We tubed this weekend and it was the highlight of our trip! We did the 2 hour float and it was perfect with kids. The company ran it efficiently, with plenty of buses running so the wait was minimal. I highly recommend renting sticks there to help as you navigate down the river. Also make sure to bring water shoes (they do have water shoes available for purchase if you don’t have any).
Lora A — Google review
It is very well organized and not overpriced. I think they should tell you if it’s your first time there are lots of rocks, lots of still zones and you probably need a stick and a partner to tether with. This would have made it a much more enjoyable ride. You can choose 1 or 2 hours. If it’s your first time do one … trust me lol Also, fill out your form online before you get there and you will go through the line much faster
Natalie T — Google review
We went on June 23, 2025, a family group of 9 and we had an amazing time! The staff was amazing and friendly and it was so easy to purchase our tickets and board the bus! We would definitely recommend and be back soon for another amazing adventure! PS: Definitely recommend getting or bringing a stick to help you along the river! A+
Conchy H — Google review
Make sure you monitor rain levels as you want the river to be high and running. Push sticks are definitely needed. Super fun at awesome prices! They have dressing rooms and rental lockers, but will hold your car keys for free. We purchased in advance online (not sure that was needed - maybe best for peak times) and our tickets came with a free locker. If traveling with others, I recommend you borrow the connector straps to tie tubes together, otherwise you may find yourself floating down on your own.

Nestled in the alpine Bavarian village of Helen, Georgia, the Helen Arts & Heritage Center is a charming destination that showcases the rich artistic and historical heritage of Northeast Georgia. This non-profit center features an art gallery, pottery studio with classes, and a history museum housed in a Bavarian-style building. Visitors can explore over 200 shops offering handmade wooden toys, cuckoo clocks, quilts, souvenirs, and more.
A wonderful video on how Helen GA came to be, was a great explanation and such interesting background! I always assumed Helen was founded by a German immigrant. Now I know..."the REST of the story!" 😉

This is of the museum only. Firstly, I always enjoy local history museums and this one did not disappoint. It had a brief history of Helen before it decided to transform itself, but most of the museum is about that, how the town transformed itself from just another dying small town into a tourist destination. Just fascinating with many period photograph and the original art which inspired the transformation. Recommended for history and marketing buffs.

Water park
Helen Tubing offers tubing trips down the Chattahoochee River next to the waterpark it owns. The waterpark has slides, a lazy river and a kiddie play area. Admission to Helen Tubing includes free tubing down the river.
We had a wonderful time at Helen Waterpark. The tubing trip down the river took about an hour, and it was such a peaceful, refreshing experience. The water was calm, the scenery was beautiful, and it was the perfect way to enjoy a warm day. The staff were friendly and made everything easy—from getting our tubes to helping us onto the river.
Alexander M — Google review
Met Dana Murray at the water park and honestly, they made the whole day way more fun. Super cool energy, down-to-earth, easy to vibe with, and just a genuinely fun person to be around. Whether we were racing down slides or just chilling between rides, they brought good laughs and good company. Some people you meet in passing, and some leave a lasting impression — Dana Murray is definitely the second kind. 10/10 would slide again.
John W — Google review
Did the 2 hour tube ride. Super fun. Be sure to check the river level before you go. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Buy the stick!!! The only down side is the amount of tubers! We went when they first opened. There were about 10 ppl who put in at the same time. About an hour in is the launch for the other tubing company. And that's when it got crowded. Like bumper cars at one point. All and all fun activity and would recommend on a hot day.
Vikki D — Google review
Went for my grandsons 15th birthday... the kids loved the place.. but of course, the food and drink are overpriced! Cost us about $215 total for the day for 7 bodies ( entrance and food ). It's not too bad. Like I said, the kids had fun.. but one would think since it's a "water park" 1. There would be more water attractions.. 2. Some splash pads!! Just saying 🤨
Tammy — Google review
A little bit small but my kids still had a blast. There is one lazy river with two slides and two tube slides. My kids played again again and again with basically no wait time. Staff on the top was very nice to explain how to sit and grab the double tubes as we are the first time players.
Yanmin A — Google review
We did the tubing on the river. I can say that it is something I checked off my bucket list. I can't swim so I wore a life jacket as some spots were deep while others were very, very low. Those low areas were difficult to navigate across as I got stuck numerous times on rocks. I would say it was more of a work out than just a leisure stroll down the river. Definitely ensure you buy the 5.00 stick cause you will need it. Took me 3 hours to get all the way down the river. Was a good experience but I don't know if I would do it again.
Shinnal L — Google review
We had a lot of fun. However, the park is fairly small, and there isn't much to do for smaller kids who are afraid of the big slides. They have a two story playground but it is for children 4 and under, I have a 6 year old who is afraid of slides and she got bored pretty early on, however, there were no other kids on the playground so they allowed her to use it which was very nice.
Claudia B — Google review
The employees are very friendly and helpful. They have a general store that sells most things needed for the park. I paid $18.75 for me and $13.75 for my 4 year old (or anyone under 42 inches). Everyone gets a wristband to wear and the price is for the entire day so you can leave and come back. They are open from 9am to 5pm. They have a very large covered playground for kids and a concession stand as well. The only issue for me is that you have to go down a lot of steps to get to the water and to get to the bathrooms you have to go back up those steps and down another set that is off to the side. The lazy river was our favorite thing to do.

Festival
Helen Oktoberfest is the longest-running Oktoberfest in the world, lasting for eight weeks from mid-September to early November. The town of Helen transforms into a lively celebration with German music, attire, and dancing. The festival takes place at Helens Festhalle, just a block away from downtown shops and restaurants. Visitors can enjoy traditional German food and beer while experiencing polka dancing, face painting, live music, and parades.
Helen Oktoberfest is a lively festival and well worth the visit. I paid $10 admission on a Thursday, which felt fair for the experience. Food averages around $20 per person, with several traditional sausage options and sides. There are also plenty of beers, both German and American, that really add to the festive vibe. The atmosphere is cheerful, with live music and lots of people in traditional outfits. The Festhalle is the main hub of the celebration, but the whole town joins in. A very fun cultural experience!
Paulo P — Google review
Helen’s Oktoberfest is an absolute blast! The whole town transforms into a mini Bavarian village filled with great music, lively crowds, and authentic German vibes. The atmosphere is super fun and friendly — everyone’s dancing, singing, and enjoying themselves. The beer selection is excellent, and the food (especially the bratwurst, pretzels, and schnitzel) is delicious. The bands playing traditional German tunes make the experience even better — you can’t help but join in the polka! The event is well-organized, and the staff are friendly. Parking can get crowded, so going early or using the shuttle is a good idea. Overall, it’s a must-visit if you’re anywhere near North Georgia in the fall. Great for families during the day and for adults at night. Definitely coming back next year! 🍺🎶🇩🇪

The town of Helen is a whole vibe during this time of year. I’d suggest exploring downtown, eating some yummy food, visit a Beer Garden, and people watch instead of paying the admission fee to get in the actual festival hall. But to each their own! It’s all a good time!

Had an absolute blast in Helen, for my first visit to Oktoberfest. Had great food and beer at the festhall. Met a bunch of friendly people. Visited with the firefighters. (Helen has a beautiful new ladder truck!) Even met some of the local police, ( officer Smith and officer Britt) as well as the city manager ( Mr. Westmoreland, thank you for the patch.) and the fine people that work at city hall. We will be back for another visit soon.

The Christmas Shoppe, located in Helen, Georgia, is a festive store specializing in a wide variety of holiday gifts and decorations. The shop offers an array of German ornaments, Steinbach nutcrackers, snow globes, tea pots, hand-carved Santas, matryoshka dolls (nesting dolls), lava candles, and unique crafts from local artisans.
Great shop to pop into, especially around the winter holidays. We stopped in and walked through the rooms of trees with ornaments on them that you can buy, and perused the shelves. I wish I had a place of my own to decorate! I was eyeing the hand painted Austrian egg ornaments. An employee was rearranging the shelf with them and invited me to step over to take photos and videos while the case was open. I’ll definitely be back again in the future.

I was SO excited to go into this shop. Christmas is my favorite holiday. We stopped in..in June. The owner was very kind and made us feel comfortable. There was a great selection of ornaments....many styles to choose from. She has one tree that has local artists/craftsman work on it...which I thought was very nice.

My wife lives for Christmas to the point that she is planning and getting ready 6 months in advance. She was super excited to visit the Helen Christmas Shop when we were vacationing in Helen but during our visit to the shop we were followed around the entire time we were there and made to feel uncomfortable by being followed like we were some type of lowlife thief. My wife also held the door open for some old ladies that were leaving as we arrived and the lady behind the counter immediately started to gripe about the door being open. I finally had enough of being followed around and we left because we didn’t feel welcome in the store. My wife said it felt like the grinch came and sucked the Christmas spirit from her soul.

They don’t have a lot of selection. There is also hardly any room for a wheelchair or stroller. The woman working there isn’t very friendly, either. Made me feel bad for parking my baby’s stroller on her porch and accidentally running over one of her half-dead plants. Made a big show of moving it, too, while I was still standing there. Charlemagne's Kingdom is a captivating Alpine model railroad museum located in the Georgia Mountains. The 50-foot exhibit showcases HO Scale German Model Railroads, offering a detailed depiction of Germany's diverse terrain and architecture. Crafted by Willi and Judi Lindhorst, the museum presents miniature villages, cable cars, railroad tracks, mountains, and rivers.
Super cute. And SO MUCH DETAIL. When we went I think there was only 1 train working? But honestly it didn't even matter. There's just SO much to look at. Definitely worth the cost of entry. I'm pretty sure we spent a good 2-3 hrs in there, and there were loads of little fun things hidden around that kept the toddler completely occupied.
Liz C — Google review
Great place to visit. I was a little disappointed as they only had one train going when we went, but instead of charging us they asked for donations. Anyway the work and the level of detail is amazing. Definately a must see when you are in Helen!
Tom H — Google review
Made me go back to my childhood! I was so excited by the whole setup - I used to dream of stuff like this as a kid. This exhibit is a little old and faded but still beautiful. I can only imagine all the love the owner has poured into this setup. Don't miss a chance to see it. Quietly take the whole scene in. Don't miss the football (soccer) ground!
Naveen R — Google review
Amazing model train setup with an incredible amount of detail. Being able to go look at it from the upper balcony is neat, since it gives you a better overall view and lets you see things you cant from the floor level.
Marie C — Google review
Very enjoyable experience. Was not expecting to be entertained as much. I'm not really interested in model trains, but the exhibit is very well done and there's lots to see. Would not recommend for young children since they won't be able to see over the railing. If you do bring small children, expect to hold them up most of the time so they can see the exhibit. There's several trains that move around tracks which can be entertaining. It's all enclosed in one room which you walk around. If in the area, I would recommend stopping by. It's not free, so expect to pay before heading in.
Zoila R — Google review
The more time you spend here, the more you will appreciate the beauty of it. There is so much detail to everything, like people playing, an accident, fire at a building, farmers etc. When I visited, there were only 2 trains running, it would so much better when they have all the trains up and running, but the cashier gave a discount to make it up.
Altaf A — Google review
Fun place for railfans of all ages. Great details with a lot of whimsical touches. Not having a restroom hurts the rating by a star, but the delight my youngest shared at discovering all the little surprises earns a solid 4 stars.
John G — Google review
We had a great time here with our 4 kids. Ask for the scavenger hunt. The museum has a gift shop with Melissa and Doug train sets and some rock themed gifts. The model train room has two levels where we could see the mountain town from above and below. There were three trains running and the kids love following them around the room. We stayed for over an hour. Had to bribe the kids out of there. So many little things to see. The setup has some wear and tear but overall well maintained. Bathroom is off the gift shop. And can buy drinks there too. If you like this review tap the thumbs up.

This place is NOT in good shape. Came to pay mini golf only to be greated by a less than happy-to-be working young lady. Came outside to start playing only to find the courses in horrible conditions. The mystery boxes are fun! Got a name piece for a friend. Turned out really pretty and she loved it! Love the variety of pieces to look at
Jeanna B — Google review
So disappointed in this place, we were here visiting and my kids thought it would be fun to pick one of their mystery boxes each and have a little keepsake to bring home, my one daughters was broken and had to be thrown out due to little pieces of glass and our other daughters was this horribly made candle stick holder for $8….it doesn’t even sit properly so definitely a danger for a candle to go in but I don’t understand their logic to putting this in their mystery box for $8 other than to take advantage of tourists. And of course all sales all final, you win!
Jessica N — Google review
These handmade glass figurines are truly fascinating to see in person. The craftsmanship that goes into each piece is incredible every figure is carefully shaped with molten glass, and the attention to detail in the painting makes them look so lively and unique. Watching the process live is an amazing experience, because you not only see the end result but also the skill, patience, and creativity that the artists put into making them. It feels almost magical how simple glass transforms into colorful animals, turtles, elephants, or even fun characters like Yoda. Each figurine has its own personality. The little animals with bright colors look cheerful and playful, the clear crystal elephant sparkles beautifully under light, and the turtles are crafted with such charm that they instantly make you smile. The combination of vibrant colors, delicate shapes, and polished finishes makes them stand out as both collectibles and pieces of art.One of the most exciting parts of the experience is the mystery box. It adds a fun twist because you never know what you’re going to get until you open it. This time, I was thrilled to find a Yoda figure inside it was such a surprise and instantly became my favorite piece. The excitement of opening the box and discovering something new is unmatched, and it’s something I always look forward to. Overall, this experience never disappoints. Whether you are watching the live creation of glass art, adding to your collection, or just enjoying the surprise of a mystery box, it always feels special. These figurines are not just decorative items but also little treasures filled with creativity and joy. It’s an experience I’d recommend to anyone who loves art, collectibles, or simply something unique and beautiful. 🥰🥰🥰🥰😇 🥰🥰

The toys are wonderfully created. The prices are pretty pocket friendly. Also a good place to get some fridge magnets as a souvenir. A good experience. Would surely recommend.

Tim's has lots of interesting wooden toys, signs and other cool stuff. They can customize lots of different signs and wall hangings for you. They also have wooden puzzles, shields with customized crests and even puppets! Stop in for something unique that isn't like all the other schlotzsky's the shops in town sell.

Cutest little wooden store ever. Tim was very friendly and answered all of our questions. I couldn’t leave without buying a wooden block that had our wedding date and names. Hope to buy one online with my baby’s birth info and stuff.

Nestled beneath a bridge by the Chattahoochee River, The Troll Tavern offers a casual and scenic dining experience. This riverfront pub is renowned for its German-inspired menu, featuring dishes like Bavarian Pretzel and Bratwurst Burger. Guests can savor an array of flavorful selections including nachos, wraps, seafood, and steak while enjoying picturesque views of the river from the outdoor patio.
Our food was amazing. Drinks even more so. Service was impeccable!!! Our waiter was body very patient and knowledgeable about the menu. Will definitely have to come back. We got the goblin burger, chicken fingers as well as the German Chocolate martini. . . Made with one of the best coconut rums I've ever tasted. The bar tender was great! Definitely a must eat place when visiting Helen.

It was pretty nice. I sat outside next to the water by the bridge which was really nice after a long day of walking around town. Beer selection was good. The fries appetizer was really good. I got the entree where you get the cutlet and 2 sausages, which is a $30 meal which is a lot for me, but it was a lot of food. The meal itself was alright. I’m not huge on German food but if you are, then you’ll like it.

★★★★★ We had a great time at Troll Tavern. The location next to the river is fantastic for a relaxed vibe. The service was friendly and efficient from the moment we walked in. We tried Paulaner Oktoberfest and the strawberry cocktail for drinks—both were excellent. The kohlwurst was delicious and really authentic. The Reuben was one of the best my wife has had. Overall, would definitely recommend coming back for lunch and drinks.

If you want to enjoy anything from a crispy burger with fries to a delicious salmon, this is a great spot. The view is incredible, right by the river, and pairs perfectly with a good beer. I would have given 5 stars, but the way they call guests to be seated is not ideal. The hosts have to shout names from outside the restaurant, and with all the noise from people passing by the river, it can be hard to hear—there’s no modern system to notify diners, so it’s easy to miss your turn. Despite this, the food and atmosphere make it worth a visit.
Erika L — Google review
We stopped into the Troll Tavern for lunch during Oktoberfest. We didn’t have to wait to be seated. We enjoyed our seat outside on the patio by the water. Drinks were good, food was delicious. The Reuben was hot and juicy! The perfect amount of food! Service was a little slower than to be desired but we were in no rush. Overall good experience and would come back.

This is a must eat at when visiting Helen. The venue has indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside by the river to watch the tubers float by and it was very enjoyable. Our server was very friendly and attentive. He answered all our questions throughly abd checked on us during our dine in to make sure everything was exceptional. The portions are very generous and we all took half of our plates back to the room with us. From the appetizers to the main course was absolutely delicious! Authentic German dining that anyone who is visiting should experience!

We came on a Sunday evening of Oktoberfest. We didn’t have to wait long, but it took over an hour for our food to be done, and the restaurant was thinned out by then. But the waiter and food was great. Rueben was excellent, chipped corned beef, and horse made thousand Island!!! No complaints on the food. Bathrooms were clean. A great stop.

Wasn't sure where to go. We ended up at The Troll Tavern. Couldn't find it at first, had to call to find out where they were, once we got there we sat outside. Waitress was very polite and pleasant. The atmosphere out there with the running water was very nice. Husband ordered the trout rice in a salad and I got the grilled salmon rice and a salad, the food was seasoned very nicely. We had a good time.

The Hardman Farm Heritage Trail offers a journey back in time to the 1870s, showcasing life without modern amenities. The site features well-preserved furniture and light fixtures, providing insight into the lives of three influential families who once resided there. This historic attraction spans 173 acres and includes a dairy barn from 1870, an Italianate-style house that belonged to Anna Ruby's family, and the ancient Nacoochee Mound burial site.
Great easy walking trail for all ages. Free parking and access. It’s about .8 miles one way. Lots of cool history along the trail and great views of the river. Restrooms at the visitor center on the Hardman historical site.

It's such a beautiful trail and it's easy to walk. There usually aren't a lot of people here either, so it's peaceful.

Oh, this trail is NICE ! Level, paved trail with occasional boardwalks. City of Helen is very proud of this gorgeous walk and keeps it clean. If you haven't been, come for a walk and bring your (leashed) dog. They love it too !
Brian S — Google review
Really an ideal trail for a short run or for skateboarding (~1 mile each way, easy grades). Well designed, well maintained, well paved. Plenty of interpretive markers about the history of gold, railroading, and agriculture in the area. Beautiful views of the Chattahoochee River and a waterfall, and Nacoochee Village (inaccessible from the trail itself). Observation decks and places to sit are available, and the trail managers have built a nice boardwalk section also. The historic farm at one end of the trail itself is worth checking out separately. Four stars instead of five for lack of services on the trail, and a little bit of a remote area if the farm is not open on a given day (and the least populated area of Helen on the other end of the trail).

The Hardman Farm Heritage Trail is kid friendly. It’s a super short trail that’s wide and winding next to the river. We started on the North side in Helen, GA and walked to the South side at Hardman Farms. Along the way there were some plaques you can read as well as a section that you can jump to see how far you jump as compared to different animals (see the picture attached). This is the perfect trail for a toddler just learning to hike as well as for other hikers who are just stretching their legs. Have fun on the Hardman Farm Heritage Trail!

The Heritage Trail Zander the mansion are great places to visit. The trail we took was about 2 miles, and is a cement walkway, with wooden bridges, so it is literally a walk in the park :) Throughout the trail are historical signs with info on the wildlife, the river, etc. During the trail there are rest stops and benches. At one end is the mansion and the store, so you can visit that, get some drinks, books and more. A fun time for the family!
Ray L — Google review
I've been visiting Helen for over 30 years, and I can't believe I just discovered this today. The crazy July 4th traffic diverted us to this little gem. We had a picnic lunch in the gazebo and then hiked the paved, mostly-shaded trail. It was idyllic as you walk along the Chattahoochee river. Glimpses of Nacoochee buildings, waterfalls and rocky river beds, plus gorgeous trees all around. The trail ends at the Hardman Farm Historic Site, about one mile away (which has restrooms and a gift shop). It's an easy hike for our family (teens down to one year old). Please help keep it clean.

Alpine Carriage Company offers a delightful carriage ride experience suitable for families, couples, and solo travelers. The company's dedication to preserving the history of Helen Ga is evident through their well-cared-for horses and commitment to providing an enjoyable experience. Departing from the Quality Inn, this affordable activity allows visitors to explore the charming town while admiring the beautiful draft horses that are clearly cherished by their owners.
Its very well worth $10 per person for a carriage ride around Helen. The owners devotion for the preservation of Helen Ga and it's history is remarkable. The horse's receive top of the line care and anyone who sees the level of dedication and compassion these horse's receive will agree. Some past employees have lacked this dedication and devotion therefore creating a misrepresentation of Alpine Carriage Co. Im well pleased with my personal experience with them and my professional evaluation couldnt be higher.

NOTE: This carriage company now leaves from the Quality Inn - they told us some customers are having trouble finding them. You can call ahead or contact them online to make sure they will be there (we had no trouble reaching them by phone). We surprised our daughter with a carriage ride on our last visit to Helen and she was absolutely thrilled. The ride was a little shorter than I expected, but it was well worth the money to see her so excited. She loved waving to everyone from the carriage and we discovered many shops we hadn't noticed before along the ride. She also got to feed the horse a carrot at the end!

Apologies to all, Google will not let us remove our listing. We are no longer in business due to the City of Helen running all of us but Pegasus Carriage Company out of business. Please contact Craig with Pegasus for any carriage rides.

The horses are very well cared for and spoiled, if you know draft horses they love their jobs. Beautiful, quiet , calming trip. So affordable too! Cost us a tiny portion of what we paid in Savannah and way prettier. Highly recommend.

I made plans with this company days in advance for a ride at 1pm on a Sunday (Dec. 12) and was stood up. The customer service is horrible! They do not answer the phone and rely on texts for communication. They take hours to respond! Use Pegasus on 93 River Street instead. At least they are reliable.

Well we paid $60 for ten minutes of a ride around a block and was supposed 20min. This was not what I expected and I felt bad for the horse. Horses and traffic don't mix. I recommend not supporting this activity while on your vacation.

DO NOT SUPPORT! Horrific place deserves no stars! Complete animal cruelty! The gentleman in charge of carriage ride was underneath a umbrella while the horse was standing in the Mid Summer Heat/Sun! 95 degrees today! No water in site! The store also features fresh cider (in season) and peach or muscadine-flavored slushies. Boiled peanuts are a southern specialty available at Fred's, which has been operating for over 30 years.
Lovely selection and great Southern hospitality. Great spot for a little taste of home while on the road. Located literally right outside of Helen, GA. Must see/try if you're into some local snacks, honey, or preserves.

Absolutely the best service! They saw me running from the car because we were in a hurry, and one of the boys started yelling out “you want boiled peanuts?”. He had my whole order down before I even reached the register. And the cider was AMAZING! Definitely will be ordering from them again!

We discovered this place today. I saw the sign It was a nice big sign and great directions on where it was located at. The parking was a little bit small but luckily it was not that busy on a Sunday afternoon. The place looked so cute. I love all the things to look at and it was so pretty. The smell of the peanuts was mouth watering and so were the peanuts when we ate them. They were wonderful and affordable. They had a pretty good selection of a few other things to try and buy to. Great little place.

If you’re a peanut lover, Fred’s Famous Peanuts is a must-try! Their peanuts are incredibly fresh, flavorful, and roasted to perfection. You can really taste the quality and care that goes into every batch. Whether it's the classic salted, Cajun-spiced, or boiled peanuts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The customer service is top-notch—friendly, helpful, and always ready to recommend their best sellers. The packaging is also great, keeping the peanuts fresh and perfect for gifting or snacking on the go. It’s rare to find a local business that combines tradition, flavor, and great service so well. Fred’s has definitely earned its “famous” title. I’ll absolutely be coming back for more!

It was way expensive we could have went to Pigeon Forge for her to ride 3 rides for $25. Never again. Didn't see no bowling, skating, or Lazer tag. There wasn't no snake bar they had chips and stuff up there at the counter thats it. NEVER AGAIN WE WILL STEP FOOT IN THAT PLACE WAST OF MONEY. Yes daughter had fun told her this was the LAST TIME here.

Our first time visiting Helen Fun Factory the last week of December and we had the best time. Plenty of things to do including arcade, indoor go-karts for adults and smaller kids, train rides, bouncy houses, roller skating, and laser tag. Prices are very reasonable and there’s literally fun for all ages. We enjoyed the indoor go-karts but had the most fun in laser tag. The set up was awesome, the environment was so fun and the guns we used were very life like in looks. Even my 8 yr old little girl who played for the first time ever had a blast. And, if you break the record for most kills, you get to spray paint your initials and kill number anywhere in the set up. We will definitely revisit this place in the future!
Julie C — Google review
We found this place online while looking for something to do on a bad weather day with the kids.... I'm really glad we found it. As a kid from the 90s, it was great to see an arcade with laser tag, bounce houses, arcade games, air hockey, and a rollee skating rink under one roof. They also have some memorabilia and what not around the place...which was cool to see as well. Most importantly though....The staff there was super friendly and made us feel very welcome. The kids had an absolute ball....and (to us) prices were not insane. You get 5 tokens for a dollar. Most machines take 4 tokens per play. You can get tickets for the various rides and attractions ... I would have given them 5 stars, but the place does still need some more repairs and maintenance. But the general vibe of the place is awesome and I hope to see them keep up the vision of a family friendly fun zone
Jon D — Google review
Took our grandkids here yesterday. They had SO MUCH FUN! The staff were amazing patient with the little ones, and the carts were new and ELECTRIC! The whole place was extremely clean, too! There’s a skate rink and bounce house in the next building, too..
David B — Google review
Don’t waste your money here! The entire place was still under renovation. The bounce houses were kind of lack luster, with only a couple things to do for 15 dollars. When we were heading to the laser tag we went through several hallways that reeked of mildew and water stains and I even bruised my knee pretty bad on the sad wood cut-outs that they called “hiding places”. With the arcade lots of the machines were not working leaving practically nothing to do in that area. On the upside the staff was pretty nice but that’s the only good thing you’ll get from this dump. I wouldn’t even recommend this place to my worse enemy. Alpine “fun” factory just feels like a place loosely tied together by one sad and misleading title.
Leo — Google review
What a great time! My husband and I were in Helen for Oktoberfest and wanted to do something other than wander up and down the strip and eat… and drink, lol. We went to the Alpine Fun Factory, spent $20 on 100 tokens and had an awesome time playing all kinds of arcade games for the afternoon! The Walking Dead game is my favorite, it’s a cabinet game where you sit and the controllers are crossbows. I was excited to find that here, we also got to play the Jurassic Park cabinet game, Big Game Hunter, a ride-on motorcycle racing game, Pac-Man, and a lot of the hands-on classics like the basketball hoop toss game, Down a Clown and a game that looked a lot like beer pong and tried to win a stuffed animal from the claw machine, but y’all know how tough that is! I learned that I would be a great person to have on hand in a zombie apocalypse, and I can defend you against dinosaurs, but if I have to hunt for my dinner, I’m pretty bad at shooting elk and even worse at shooting targets with a rifle. We earned about 100 tickets for some of the games we played, and we were able to get two packets of Fun Dip as our prize! What a great day! There is also indoor go kart racing, both a small kids track, and a larger track for teens and adults. It wasn’t crowded when we were there - there’s a lot of room to spread out and all the games worked well, which was exciting. If you’ve ever been to an arcade where a lot of things are broken that can be really frustrating, but we did not deal with that here at all! I would definitely go back. The price was great. The staff were nice and the games are awesome! Thank you for a fun afternoon!
Lisa G — Google review
Let me start by saying if you're nostalgic about the 80s and 90s then this is the place for you! If you're expecting something new and pretentious, stay away unless you can have an open mind and enjoy what's being provided. With that said, we love this place! Indoor go-carts, tons of arcade games, a few pool tables, an air hockey table, mixed with a few old cars, and a throwback skating rink that hits you in the right place. Everyone working here was extremely friendly and helpful. We were extremely grateful to have someplace like this to bring our small kids on such a cold day. We will definitely be back in the future and tell everyone we know about it!

First, make a reservation to come here. It’s a great little place to eat. A little on the upscale side, with great food, wine and some art. We loved it BUT we did not get to enjoy it as much as we would have liked as they’ve musician the night we went and they sat us in the same room and it was VERY loud. My husband didn’t like that because you couldn’t talk or anything. Other than that it was pleasant and the food was very good. We would go back here again just hopefully get seated in a different spot.

What a beautiful experience! This is our new favorite restaurant! Everything was just perfect. Beautiful, peaceful atmosphere with absolute best staff who truly cares. We were treated as old friends. Truly grateful. The food is worth raving over until the next time I’m able to go- and then I’ll rave some more. The best crab cakes that I’ve ever had- and the shrimp and grits were full of flavor and HUGE SHRIMP. My husbands ribeye was beyond outstanding. He ate the fat and all! Homemade mashed potatoes that were full of flavor and a gorgeous salad. The drinks were amazing as well. This is a MUST.

I can’t say enough about this place. I went there a little less than two weeks ago and our server Lindsay was amazing. Personality was very pleasant and friendly, and she recommended the crabcake appetizer as well as the shrimp and grits and a couple other items for the three of us, and every recommendation was absolutely amazing. I advise anyone that goes to this place to ask for Lindsay because her service and work ethics are on point and hard to come by these days!!! They should be happy to have her on board!!! Btw we were in town visiting family and came from NJ 👍👍👍💯

Fried green tomato appetizer was amazing. My wife had the shrimp and grits and it was good. I had the tortellini in Alfredo sauce. It was pretty bland. Barely any Alfredo. Some pieces didn’t have any and the rest was like someone lightly coated it with a paint brush. And then to add grilled chicken with no flavor doesn’t make sense. I would not get the tortellini.

The Heidelberg is a charming German restaurant located in Helen, Georgia, designed to resemble a Bavarian Alpine village. The restaurant offers an authentic German dining experience with traditional dishes like schnitzel and goulash, as well as a selection of great beers to enjoy in the patio or beer garden. In addition to The Heidelberg, there are several other eateries in Helen where visitors can savor German cuisine such as strudel and more.
Excellent food and wonderful atmosphere, true German experience, and cuisine. There is seating inside and outside. Many choices of delicious entrees to choose from. They have 2 musicians playing and singing while walking around to bring in some wonderful German music. Very good beer and adult beverages are available and pair excellent with your meal. Wonderful experience and very worth the visit! Very friendly staff and great service!

The restaurant is nestled in the small but scenic town of Helen, GA. I have been to this establishment multiple times over the past two years. The quality of the food is quite good, especially the Schnitzel. The portions are large, and most people will need a box for leftovers. The service is consistent. The atmosphere/ambiance is average, but you don’t go there for that anyway. The wait time can vary, depending on time of day, but usually not more than 15-20 minutes. The prices are reasonable.
Evan L — Google review
Started out with a pretzel with “beer cheese” that was extremely runny and very sad. The pretzel itself was ok. Regarding the entree, the potatoe salad was not doing it and the sauerkraut and bratwurst was just good enough to eat most of it but that’s mainly thanks to the mustard. Our waitress was pretty short and disinterested. The place felt stuffy and there was persistent smell of weed. To put it simply, not worth it. For the price, wait for the table, and quality, I feel like it’s time wasted. I wouldn’t recommend unless you’re okay with mid German food.

1st time visit. We ordered the pretzel with beer cheese and the Wurst Platter which had three different sausages. The pretzel came with melted butter to dip it in which made it feel like I was eating crab Legs, it was weird. The beer cheese was very runny, more like cheese milk but it was still very good with the pretzel. The pret,el was so soft and delicious. The sausage player was a great variety and really good. Our sides were the German potato salad which was def different. It was warm, ad onions, bacon and vinegar. We did like it. We also had the steamed veggies and mash potatoes which were both very good. Also had a few beers and their our apple liquor drink. Loved it. I would eat here again. The line to get in is in a stairwell and awkward.

Went out with my family for my birthday dinner, was so excited. First issue was we got no silverware, waitress was not very welcoming, glassware was clearly dirty, hair in appetizers as well being cold. When I brought attention to the fact there was hair in it she was snappy as well as her remark of "yea I overheard" stated she would figure it out and then never came back to the table until we had grabbed someone else to tell them our ENTIRE meals were cold, mashed potatoes were the warmest thing of the meal and they were barely room temp. Staff proceeded to give us attitude the entire time as well as while clearing off the table. Overall extremely shitty service as well as staffs attitudes. It was an overall embarrassing experience.

Overall, our dinner at the Heidelberg was good. The exterior of the restaurant looks just like a Bavarian town. Unfortunately, the interior is looking quite rundown and in need of a refresh. The food was good, came out hot and pretty quickly. We did order as soon as we sat down since there were quite a few groups of people who looked to have been waiting for a while. The schnitzel was our favorite part. Based on all things we’d likely come back.

I read somewhere this is the most photographed building in Helen so of course we had to visit! It’s so cute outside and the inside looks like a little speakeasy with accordion players! The food was great! Service was a little slow, but they were friendly and everything was fresh and good!

When visiting Helen, I wanted to experience Germany even in the food. The Heidelberg did not disappoint! My food was pleasantly different and I have no complaints. Thank you for the German experience! Also, it’s beautiful on the outside and thought it was cool the restaurant was upstairs.

Nestled in the charming town of Helen, Muller's Famous Fried Cheese Cafe is a cozy Alpine-style eatery renowned for its delectable fried cheese and authentic German and Czech cuisine. This family-owned restaurant offers a unique fusion of flavors, with highlights such as the mouthwatering fried brie and rich chocolate fudge cake.
This spot was recommended by one of the other businesses as a gluten free friendly option in town and they were right! A well marked menu gave me lots of options and everything looked so good! Our only complaint would be not the appetite to eat everything on the menu. The patio seating was perfect on a beautiful day, and pet friendly. Savannah took care of us and was friendly and the perfect blend of attentive but not overwhelming. She was thorough in checking on allergens for me. Prices were reasonable for a touristy area and we left with full bellies and a happy experience.

We had breakfast at Mueller’s Famous Fried Cheese in Helen, Georgia, and it was such a great experience! The service was excellent, the atmosphere was cozy and charming, and the food was delicious. We tried their famous fried cheese, which is a must-try in this area — and it was amazing! Everything we ordered was really tasty. I definitely recommend this place for breakfast if you’re visiting Helen.

Beautiful place with delicious food. We waited quite a while before we got our food, but it was worth it. I believe they made it fresh. We both had authentic German meals. Having lived in Germany for five years, I can tell you our food was as good as anything I had in Germany. Do yourself a favor and eat here.

It was Octoberfest, so it was insanely busy, but everyone was doing their best to keep up. The food was very good. I got the ham and pork with fried cheese that was incredible. We had our dog with us and they were very accommodating.

The food was amazing and the servers were very sweet. Our drinks stayed full and the food was out very fast. We got breakfast and enjoyed the German Schnitzel breakfast, Muller's pancakes, and the Ham and Cheese Omelet. The fruit was fresh and sweet and the bacon was cooked great. The sweet tea was very good and the views and atmosphere were pleasant.

We sat outside with our dog and they brought a bowl of dog water. The food and service both were magnificent. I can't wait to go back. FRIED CHEESE! YUMMY! Hubby had pancakes, yummy!

Yes, yes, yes! If you are even considering this place, go! The food is fresh and the vibe is perfect for a diner in a busy city. It feels down home in the best possible way. I had the Jaeger Strussel and it was cooked to perfection. The little salad was slightly underwhelming - it wasn't a flavor I was craving walking into a German diner in Helen. However, everything else was amazing. I fully recommend this restaurant!

This was a great place to have breakfast. Very nice patio, the waitress we had was a doll…. But the food was something to be desired. I ordered just a 2 egg/ bacon/ potato and toast breakfast. The potatoes are 4.00 extra ( and weren’t good imo) and when I ordered I had asked what kinds of bread they had for toast and one of the options was rye so I picked that. I was upcharged another 1.00 for that without being told. My bacon was so overcooked we laughed that 2 of the 4 peices were inedible / rock hard and resembled a chicken bone or a pork rind ( see picture). I like crispy bacon but this was LOL. My husbands pancakes weee just basic pancakes. They were ok. Positive- a good large cup of coffee, waitress was really nice, nice patio.

Cool River Tubing & Adventures - Headwaters Outpost & Cafe offers a thrilling experience for adventure seekers. The 24-foot climbing wall provides a challenging test of strength and skill, while the zipline courses offer an adrenaline-pumping aerial adventure. Guests can also enjoy the popular activity of river tubing on the scenic Chattahoochee River, with options for group tubing experiences.
I went here with my sister and we enjoyed ourselves. We did the Big Adventure and it was definitely challenging (given that we were first timers, not outdoorsy and not very athletic). After spending about 5 mins laughing before heading up the first set of steps, thinking what have we gotten ourselves into, we were able to progress through each section successfully, albeit VERY slowly. The zip line at the end made it all worth it. After, we found solace in hearing we were not the slowest, not by a long shot 😅 but this was a one and done situation. Although I doubt we'll try it again, we did enjoy ourselves.

Always a good time! We did the 2-hour float ,but be prepared to work in some areas a lot of rock. I would suggest renting the stick for $5 and a life vest for smaller kids. Some areas were a little deeper. Fun way to cool off on a hot day!
Tyeisha L — Google review
Pink or Green, which should it be? Cool River won out because they offer both a half and full river tubing adventure. We didn't have a lot of time, so having that option was fantastic. Water levels were a bit low, so you had to pull or push yourself along in some instances, but it sure was a great adventure. Highly recommend.
Christian J — Google review
Our two kids and I had such a great time on the “Big” ropes course. It was our younger son’s first non-little-kiddie course, and it was a bit much for him. Thankfully a guide came to his rescue, talked very calmly and positively, and helped him finish. According to our nervous child, “this was the best day ever. Can we do it again?” Maybe next time, kid 😉 We absolutely enjoyed some ice cream afterwards and also enjoyed tubing the next day.
Maria R — Google review
The best tubing company! The tubes hold heavier people easily, are very sturdy and didn’t flip. Tried both tubing companies on 2hr floats and Cool River was the best! Get the stick!! You will need it. The Headwater cafe has THE BEST turkey sandwiches I’ve ever had! fresh baked bread! We actually went there just for lunch one day because no one in our group likes German food.
Jeanna B — Google review
Staff was great! There's a short float (1hour) and a longer float around 2 hours all same price. We did the short float with a 3 & 12 year old and had no issues. Water level was low around 1-3 feet deep but nothing effected the float. We went Aug 1st and weather was great with a very light rain on the float.. it was perfect.
James P — Google review
First time tubing and it was super fun! I was worried about the low current, so I was recommended to take the short trip, but I decided to go with the long one instead. It took a little over 2.5 hours and was totally worth it. A stick is a must—you’ll get stuck a lot, seriously a lot. The store has clean restrooms, dressing rooms, and even a shower in the back of the building (though it’s open with no curtain). Parking is plentiful, and at just $14 on weekdays, it’s super affordable! But... the bus driver was so rude!
Kelly L — Google review
I visited Cool River Tubing earlier last month while in Helen and had a great overall experience. Right from the start, we met Kim, who was an absolute joy to talk to. She recommended some really cool places to check out in town and made us feel welcome right away. Once on the river, I had an issue with my tube not staying inflated, which I wasn’t pleased about. At the halfway point, we then encountered a young woman from a local college who was having a medical issue with three friends who didn’t have a cell phone. Larry happened to be there dropping off tubers and immediately offered assistance. Watching how quickly and happily he stepped in left a huge impression on me and showed the character of this company. When we returned, I spoke with staff about my tube issue. They offered me a refund, but I told them I would be coming back for another try the next day. They happily gave me a pass to return and were understanding and professional about the situation. What impressed me most was how they seemed to genuinely care not only about their customers but about people as a whole. That level of service and compassion is refreshing and the reason I would highly recommend Cool River Tubing.

Windmill Dutch Imports is a charming shop located in King Ludwig's Square, offering a delightful selection of souvenirs straight from Amsterdam. With over 30 years in business, this store imports everything directly from Holland, including ceramics, wooden shoes, Dutch food, and collectible items. Visitors can find traditional favorites like chocolate sprinkles and zoute licorice alongside beautiful white and blue figurines and plates.
This shop is so cute and is full of beautiful delftware (quintessential blue and white ceramic of the Netherlands). I’m definitely coming back to shop when I have a place to decorate. I hope these are true delftware and not just delftware-inspired pieces. I picked one up and saw that it says it’s hand painted in Holland; it contains a factory mark and artist initials too. Great place to shop for gifts or for yourself!

June 14, 2025. One of a couple of stores that is actually selling authentic food and gifts from Europe(Dutch/German). This was one of our favorite stores in the entire town of Helen,Georgia. The ladies working there were very helpful and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend stopping in and checking this store out.

This is a really unique shop! There are all kinds of windmills for sale. Some are ceramic and some are wooden. They also sell slippers that look like Dutch wooden shoes. There is a whole section of imported German groceries. They have everything from coffees and drinks to chocolates and snacks.

I'm not exactly sure what a Dutch shop is doing in the middle of a faux-Bavarian town, but it works and I love it! It's definitely on the more authentic side of shops here. There is delft galore, tiny pieces and huge, real wooden shoes, soft "wooden shoe" slippers which I thought were super cute, and a whole room of European foods and sweets. The little wooden tulips are cool and it's a great place to pick up a Christmas ornament. My niece walked out with a keychain with two tiny wooden shoes on it that was crazy cute.

Hofer's Bakery and Cafe is a charming German eatery and bakery located in an alpine-style space with a lovely patio. The establishment offers a genuine German experience, serving freshly baked bread, pastries, Wiener schnitzel, spaetzle, and other beloved German dishes year-round. Visitors can also enjoy the biergarten on weekends from May through early November or daily during Oktoberfest.
First I have to say is that the biscuits and gravy are so good. Loved it. We came with a party of seven and were happy with their meals. Our waitress in the flowered dress was so nice and patient during our order and very close to closing time. Next visit to Helen, this is our breakfast spots for sure. Of course we couldn’t leave without the kids wanting sweets. The bakery has delicious sweets and breads.

Worth the wait! The wait wasn’t bad and the food was amazing! From my many years visiting Helen this was my first time visiting this cafe and it was amazing! The food was delicious and we loved everything! Service was fast after the initial waiting for the table which wasn’t bad at all. It was morning, it was Sunday and it was breakfast time so your normal waiting time! The food came really fast and the staff were really attentive! We will definitely try to come back again when we visit!

There is a reason there is usually a wait list! The food is amazing. But let's talk about the bakery 🤗 the variety they offer is pleasing for the whole family, there is something for everyone. Even though there is a line, it goes fairly quickly with their amazing service. They have someone boxing the goodies while another member is waiting to check you out, the line goes smoothly. The shelves are loaded with authentic German goodies that are easy to travel with when visiting and my family was excited back home when I brought back some snacks. Highly recommend!

Best German food! According to their website, lunch starts around 11:30AM, but when I visited, they actually began serving closer to 12PM. The restaurant fills up instantly since the dining area is very small. Servers are kind and attentive, and the food is great overall. A couple of small downsides: sodas are $5, which feels a bit pricey, and the dishes were served warm rather than hot.
Kelly L — Google review
Delicious, impeccable flavor, incredibly authentic dishes. And the staff is SO kind. We asked for a winery recommendation and this lovely woman sat down with us and immediately rattled off a few places to try and other things to do. And you can’t leave without taking desert to go!

I thought hard about this rating because the Apple danish I ate was great! Fresh crisp and full of flavor. However, the Apple strudel was cold and doughy Not Good at all and a huge disappointment. The staff were not very helpful or friendly.

⭐️⭐️ 2/5 — Just meh 🫤 We visited Hofer’s Bakery and Café during Oktoberfest to try something different. The food was… meh. None of us really loved it, and a couple of us honestly didn’t like it at all. The flavors on my plate were confusing — not bad, just not good either. The biggest issue was the service and system. It was slow and poorly organized. They waited until nearly half the restaurant was empty before cleaning tables, even with a line out the door. With a few small adjustments, the place could run so much smoother — like pre-rolling silverware instead of doing it after every table. Overall, everything was fine, but not something I’d go out of my way for again. Just meh.🫤

Bodensee Restaurant, located in Helen, Georgia, draws inspiration from the beauty of Bavaria's Bodensee Lake. The restaurant offers a down-to-earth dining experience with traditional German dishes served in an alpine-inspired setting. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the menu features culinary specialties such as Weiner Schnitzel and the Haus Platter with knockwurst, homemade garlic wurst, and smoked pork chop.
The Pretzel was fresh, hot and delicious, I loved the two sides it came with (Beer Cheese & Apple-Mustard sauce). The Sauerkraut was fantastic like nothing else I ever tried before. Our server “Grace” was helpful and friendly, she gave an excellent service.

First time trying German food and it was a great experience. Great food, great service, and cool vibes all around. We got the potato pancakes, Brie with vegetables, goulash, and Pork schnitzel. Taste was very delicious but the schitnzel and pancakes were slightly dry for me but still very good. Would come back again.

The good thing was the food, but we had to do some struggle before getting to it. Line outside was long, but moved quickly (I feel it could move even faster if staff was managing job better) We got a very nice table, and sat there for about 10 min - no menu or water was provided. Asked passing waiter to give us a menu. Then another 10-15 min passed by and no one came. The waiter who gave a menu, started literally ignoring us. I went back to hostess desk asking to find out server, and turns out that the lady who was responsible for our table, thought that someone else is.... But she was serving tables near us, as well as the one who gave us menus. I think it's just weird, that both of them ignores the fact that we are sitting without the service, and didn't question "whose table this is". After we finally ordered, food arrived in 45 min. Which is okay, because it was cooked well, and fresh. But total time between we got at the table and started the meal was over 80 min.Since we were hungry, and all other places had long lines as well, we decided to wait until the end, lol. Idk if I ever want to go back, probably during slower time.

The food here is SO good! It's comforting and so filling. We tried the pretzel, potato pancakes, goulash soup, and sourbraten. Apple strudel for dessert. 10/10 for everything, and wish I lived closer so I could visit again soon. Our server was very kind and friendly! I believe her name was Heather - she was on the beer garden side and wearing black cat/moon earrings. Thanks so much for being so welcoming :)

👍 French onion soup. Perfect, not overly salty, nice amount of cheese, and a light char on the top was awesome. Smoked pork chop.moist, tender, lightly smoked Sauerkraut was ok, warm. 👎 Potato salad side was only offered cold, and " of" it was swapped out for spatzel the up charge was $3.oo . The Gypsy gravy has good flavor, but over powers the flavors of the perfectly smoked pork chop.

Cowboys & Angels Restaurant and Bar offers a delightful blend of Southern and Western cuisine in a laid-back setting. The family-owned establishment serves up favorites like cowboy burgers, chicken-fried steak, and Southern classics such as fried green tomatoes and collard greens. With an extensive menu featuring appetizers, soups, sandwiches, burgers (including the popular Bison Burger), steaks, pork chops, seafood, shrimp and grits, there's something for everyone.
Stopped at Cowboys & Angel’s opening Saturday of Oktoberfest in Helen, GA 2025. So understandably they were busy, but we were able to snag a spot at the bar. Kaylee behind the bar was great. The bar seating is near the kitchen so watching the whole team work together to get through the rush was eye opening. I loved my nachos. The spice was on point and the ground steak was delicious. Flour tortillas were fried in house, queso was good, best meal I’ve had in Helen so far this weekend. My friends review who got the pork belly sando: Pork belly sandwich, Was sweet and salty, perfectly cooked. With middle was soft, the edges of the meat were crispy with a smokey taste. Overall it was good, the bun took over some of the taste so I ended up just eating the insides of the sandwich. 6.7/10

Helen is typically a difficult place for me to find food options because of my dietary restrictions, but we came here after receiving a glowing recommendation about this restaurant’s extended courtesy in accommodating restrictions. Wanting something small but refreshing on a particularly hot day, I got the two sides of the Hush Puppies and Sliced Vine Ripe Tomatoes. Everything was fantastic! And the prices were an especially wonderful standout factor for how much food I got - the Hush Puppies were $4, and the Sliced Tomatoes were $5. If anything, the wait time to be seated / attended to was quite long, but they were very busy with the number of patrons already present. Completely understandable, especially during Oktoberfest at Helen!

The food was delicious and very filling. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. There was only a 10 minute wait, even thought it was very busy. I hope we will be able to come again soon! I would've added more photos... but it's gone. It was that good!!

We very much enjoyed dining here while on a visit to Helen, GA. The food was delicious. I had the bison chili app and the shrimp and grits. Being from the New Orleans area, I was kind of hesitant about trying shrimp and grits, but it was phenomenal! My husband had the pork belly app and the Sticky Belly burger. He loved both! Our server was Allison who was also phenomenal and very sweet! We will definitely be back on our next visit.

Hear me out, the food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. My boyfriend got the Elk steak it was flavorful but the Gouda Mac was horrible. The Scallops were delicious with asparagus and the collard greens had SO much depth and flavor. The cocktails was what made me upset. $10 for the key lime martini was outrageous and it was disappointing. Heather was a great server and the atmosphere was cool. This location is more an adult atmosphere than for kids But they are welcome of course.

I read the back of the menu about how this place got its start and their expectations. Those words can be easy to simply put on the back of the menu but this restaurant exceeded my expectations. The ribeye was the best that I’ve had in quite a while and it was cooked to perfection. My wife had the filet and the same was true for her meal. No regrets! In the words of Arnold, “I’ll be back”! I failed to mention that our server, BJ, was awesome as well. Highly recommended

Fabulous spot. Sat outside under the heaters for lunch and it was very comfortable. It’s early November with the fall leaves so beautiful in the area and a crisp breeze in the air. The weather is perfect for sitting outside to eat. Sweet tea is fabulous here. So good. I got half and half and it was still delicious. Not too sweet I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese. They were very generous with the cheese - lots of melted cheese. I took that off and ate it by itself The chicken piece was huge. I could only eat half of it It came with French fries that were also good Nice and crisp and not greasy. My husband ordered the bleu cheese hamburger which looked so good too. It had the right amount of blue cheese. He said it was very good. Came with fries or coleslaw which they were out of but no matter, he wanted fries anyway Service was wonderful. Very friendly. Price was reasonable Atmosphere fabulous. Not too crowded at the time we were there.

First time here. It was a 20 minute wait to be seated but it was worth it. I Don't like sitting in the tall bar like chairs not only because I am short but I am recovering from a head injury. So the hostess was nice to find a different table for us. The waiter was very nice, helpful, polite and friendly. He did a great job. The bartender was great at helping my husband figure at a drink I could enjoy that she made. I had the superman ice cream with irish cream liquor. It was so good. The food was great. My husband was pleased the first time about his burger. He likes it raw almost and for the first time it was cooked exactly right. I had the bourbon crab cakes. They were very good. The sauce was good but not my taste so I enjoyed them with out the sauce. For a appetizer it was a meal for me. The Fried Green Tomatoes are delicious and I love the bacon and corn pieces on them. I had to take them to go but I am loving them the second day. So delicious . The gentleman that was playing music was great. We enjoyed him. It was nice to sit outside. The decorations of the whole place was really fun and attractive. The whole atmosphere was friendly, enjoyable and fun for adults. It would be ok for kids. But I really feel this is more a adult atmosphere restaurant.

With outdoor seating by the river, diners can enjoy an idyllic view while savoring traditional German dishes and beers.
My husband, our dog, & I ate here for our last night in Helen. It was hands down the BEST meal & service that we've had this trip. It was raining & we had our dog so we did sit outside & everyone was so kind to us even offering to move the outdoor umbrellas to protect us better. Our server, Landon, was so friendly & recommended us amazing German fruit beers. (Delicious) We got the pretzel with beer cheese for an appetizer. (Amazing) Our meals were SO freaking good. My husband was stationed in Germany for several years when he was in the Army & he said that the food was so authentic & we both cleared our plates. We even saved room for Black Forest Cake for dessert. (Immaculate) Landon was also kind enough to grab us both Tee shirts when we inquired about them & checked on us frequently despite the rain. We 100% recommend this place as a must visit when in Helen. Thank you all for a wonderful experience & even better food. ❤️

A stop in Helen GA for Octoberfest. Our first stop for food was here, and it was amazing. First, shout out to our server Miranada, who added the extra details that some servers miss. The staff overall were great, but during this festival I expected everyone in lederhosen or dirndl. It was only half the staff. We ordered small pretzel "flown" in from Munich. Perfect and so soft inside. Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich and Open Face Prime Rib Sandwich. Both were great options. I actually expected sliced prime rib, but it was one piece. Still very tasty! Almost forgot, we ate outside on this beautiful evening, half the tables full at 6pm Wednesday. Live guitar artist playing great music. Overall great time. I bet weekends are busy during this time. Please give me a heart if you found this review helpful.

The portions were generous and the beer was cold, can’t ask for much more than that! We enjoyed sitting both inside with a view of the river and outside to enjoy the live festive music. The blackberry bourbon smash was also great! You can definitely split the apple strudel. Would absolutely recommend eating here and we look forward to a return trip.

★★★★★ So good we had to come twice. We had an amazing meal at Hofbrauhaus. The jagerschnitzel was superb—crispy, tender, and packed with flavor. The fried potato pancakes were a standout too, perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. The apple strudel was amazing, and there’s plenty of food to share—two people could easily split a hearty dinner. This felt like the most authentic German restaurant I’ve been to in the US. The beer was fresh and transported us straight to Bavaria. The location by the river is scenic and really adds to the ambiance. Highly recommended for a genuinely Bavarian experience. We came back the next day just to sit in the beer garden and have some drinks and apps.

With a lot of German/Bavarian restaurants in the area, this is definitely 1 of the best. I highly suggest the Käse schnitzel. Perfectly cooked schnitzel, covered in 3 chreses... what's not to love? Service was fabulous, the spaetzle was good as well, but the kartoffelpuffer (potato panckakes) are probably the best I've ever had.

Went for Oktoberfest and the festivities are everything. All the servers dress up and it’s lively and there was music too. Food is alright, bit expensive and doesn’t taste amazing. I have discovered the wonders of dipping pickles into cheese. Meats were very good though!! The lager was great

Wow. Great food, great service (Kinsey), great environment. We both got a schnitzel (me the Weiner schnitzel and my wife the Jaegar schnitzel), for dessert I got the German chocolate cake and her the apple strudel). Very well run and I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a trip to Helen, GA.

Cafe
Cafe International is a popular and lively eatery located on the water, offering a wide variety of European sandwiches and dinner entrees. Situated in Helen, Georgia's entertainment center, this casual restaurant overlooks the river and features a large deck where patrons can enjoy their meals while watching tubers go by during the summer months. The menu includes options such as hamburgers, salads, hummus, seafood, and their signature sandwich 'The Best Reuben Ever.'
Second time here! Great view of the river and tubers. Our family enjoyed our lunch: Bavarian pretzel was large and tasty. We also had the Reuben, German Wurst Platter, and Buffalo Chicken Wrap. All very good. Server Lucas took great care of us!

Didn’t like the food at all, ordered black bean burger. On the menu said , comes with tomato onion lettuce cheese , but nothing on the burgers, just a bread and burger. Nachos were salty. Margarita was not good at all. The service was horrible. The waitress didn’t come to ask if everything was okay. Only good thing about this place is that it’s by the river. So you can enjoy the view. We enjoy the view but not the food.
N V — Google review
It is a good location but service was a bit slow. There were several pieces of hair in my salad so that was a bummer. The salad bowl also looked really dirty. Not sure if it was dirty or just stained. The rest of my party had sandwiches which all were good. Overall would probably not go again.
Kaitlyn C — Google review
Food was fine. Not authentic German, but neither is the town. :) The German potato salad was really good, and the pretzel with butter and salt was delicious. The view over the river was really lovely. We enjoyed watching the water on the rocks while we waited for our food.

this experience at Cafe International was so disappointing that I feel the need to speak up. We brought a friend who’s visiting from another country, and we thought this would be a nice place to treat him. We each ordered a coffee for $7 which, even in the U.S., is expensive but especially for our friend, that’s a big amount of money where he’s from. We wanted him to have a good experience, and instead, we were just embarrassed. The coffee was honestly the most watered-down thing I’ve ever been served. Light in color, no richness, no flavor — it tasted like plain tap water. We weren’t rude when we brought it up, we simply asked if they could replace it or give us a refund. Instead, the staff walked up and literally grabbed the coffees off our table right in front of us, and said, “Since you’ve been sipping on it, we can only refund half.” No apology, no understanding, just attitude. I’ve worked in customer service — I get it, not every day is perfect. But this felt like they couldn’t care less. We left the place feeling embarrassed, especially for our guest. To pay that much for such poor quality and to be treated that way? It just didn’t sit right.

I have been coming to Helen for 37 years. We always love coming to the International Cafe. Mainly, because we love the atmosphere. Sitting at a riverside table. This time, we had a grouchy greeting by a NOT friendly hostess. After a arm wrestle for a river view seat, we were lucky to get Lucas as our server. Lucas saved the day. I ordered my "usual". Bratwurst, red cabbage and pretzel with a Chardonnay. All was perfect except the pretzel was too hard. I didn't complain but took it back to the hotel and heated in microwave to soften. We got a good laugh when Lucas told us he is 29 after he carded me (a 70 year old) and then I let him know I have made a annual trip to Helen for the last 37 years. He was a cute kid who saved the day from that grouchy gal (rough around the edges) who greeted us. We loved watching the tubers going over the short fall in the river. Food is average, drinks good (brother had a German beer) but the location is five stars. Ask for Lucas! "Bring back those festive greeters who made coming to the International Cafe something to look forward to" .

The cafe has outdoor seating right by the river. We watched the tubers float by. The staff were friendly and gave information about the local area. I had the beyond sausage without the cheese and fries. I enjoyed it.

Castle
Museum
Uhuburg, also known as Eagle Owl Castle, is a stunning architectural marvel that took 14 years to construct. This weekend destination offers tours of its beautifully landscaped gardens, walking trails, and the castle itself. Visitors can't miss the Lookout Tower for breathtaking views of the North Georgia mountains. The castle's picturesque setting makes it a popular spot for photography enthusiasts and fantasy photoshoots. The owner, Bob, provides informative tours and plans to further develop the grounds in the future.
We arrived right before they opened the gates to park and had a wonderful time and stayed on the tour with the creator of the castle while he shares things about it all. This was totally an AWESOME place to visit and they even hold renaissance fairs there too which I would love to attend one day. There are so many detailed things to see and explore and while this is not for everyone, as not all things ever are, I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area. Everyone there is great and happy because they love to be there for us to share the wealth of knowledge about it all from the gardens and types of plants to other aspects of the castle! I am glad they have this to share with the world and when you visit, keep an open mind and you will have fun. There is a room people can book to stay in at the castle and they make food using their own garden vegetables and fruit as well. My wife and I really enjoyed talking to the creators daughter as well and I am sorry to her that we forgot her name but she has such a beautiful soul and a delight to converse with! Also they have a “dragon tree” in the center of the castle and I believe these are the same ones in Dr. Seuss books. I know about that because I am from San Diego, Ca and when you visit the San Diego Zoo they talk about these trees. They clean the air from toxins as well. See photos at the end for this tree.

Wow!!! This place was cool. Went to kill an hour or so but there was so much do see & do there we stayed 3 hours. Beautiful grounds with something awesome around every corner. The staff was amazing and made it really fun. You can take the tours that go on periodically through out the day if you like for free. They had a sword demonstration. The views from the tower were amazing. I highly recommend visiting. Coolest part of our trip to Helen by far.

We stayed Thursday thru Sunday on a girls trip. We had 6 of us :-) Hope we didn't drive you guys crazy. We are pretty loud together. The laughter was strong. We had a great time! While like most said its a little higher than other things but for us it was the experience. Highly recommend. No tourist type entertainment but I think we loved it more for that! We explored the property and explored some more. We saw something new every time. The breakfast every morning was fabulous! We loved to listen to Bob's stories! Naomi was fantastic getting us settled in. All in all a 10 for us. Everyone was helpful and friendly. We loved every part of the experience! Thank you guys for a great time.

Absolutely loved visiting Uhuburg Castle! The scenery was stunning, and there were so many great photo opportunities all around the property. The shuttle service from the parking area was a nice touch and made getting to the castle super easy. The staff were all wonderful—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. It was such a great experience overall. Highly recommend visiting!

This place is AWESOME!! The staff was so fun and Bob was a great tour guide. He really inspired me to visit the library and relearn some different topics and investigate some new ones!! The castle itself was beautiful and I would love to come back and stay! Ethan was a great help with questions and even took our picture in the great hall when we couldn’t figure out the timer on our phone. Haha. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. ;) Some hints would be to go early n buy your tickets online ahead of time. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes so you can walk everywhere.

It was just wonderful! I’ve never seen a Castle up close before. I saw some in southern Italy when I was there, from the road. This was a great experience. You can even spend the night, when they have rooms available! I loved the Grape Vineyard & the Muscadine grapes were delicious! We met the owner/builder & his wife & daughter. They were very warm & friendly. You could wander around on your own or follow a tour guide, or both! I listened in on some of the tour guides showing the Murals on the different walls. One was Native American Culture. Another was Japanese & Chinese & then one of Middle Eastern beliefs. It was very interesting & educational.

We stayed overnight at Uhuburg in the Queen room and it was a magical experience. The staff was lovely and extremely helpful. The room was beautiful, majestic, and very comfortable. I think the best part of staying there was the opportunity to walk the grounds and see the interior of the castle by ourselves. It felt like our own private castle. Also, it was amazing to see Uhuburg at night with the sky full of stars.

I never knew that there was a castle in Helen, Georgia until this trip... Decided to go up there. The drive is quick from town. Then you go to a parking lot, and a shuttle takes you the rest of the way which is only a couple of minutes. It cost me $35. You can tour by yourself or take a tour of different rooms or of the grounds and it's included in your price. No, pets are allowed and the castle itself has several rooms that you can actually stay in if you want to experience a bed and breakfast in a castle... The couple who own it, spent 15 years building the place and it opened about 2 years ago. They also have different events at the castle throughout the year. Fine to go to once. Evidently the castle has become a non profit.

Event venue
Nestled in the charming town of Helen, the Black Forest Bed & Breakfast is a delightful retreat that offers a variety of accommodations including cozy rooms, spacious suites, and inviting cabins. Guests can unwind in the guest lounge or enjoy the serene patio that overlooks a picturesque waterfall. This B&B serves as an excellent base for exploring local attractions like Habersham Vineyards & Winery and Charlemagne's Kingdom Museum, both just a short distance away.
The bed was comfortable and breakfast is served hot. The room was a little dated, but of course it was older than most hotels. I’m used to going to. The owners of the restaurant do all or most of their own work and they are certainly a charm. They are extremely gracious and wonderful people who truly care about their guests. If I ever return to Helen Georgia, I will pick this place to go again.

The absolute best thing about the Black Forest B&B is the family that own and run it. They make you feel like family. Matt is a great cook, the breakfasts were perfect to start your day in Helen. Angie, his sister is always making sure that you have everything to make your stay comfortable. Their father, Terry, is a whole storehouse of stories that are fascinating. Next time we go back (maybe the Christmas markets ?) we will definitely be staying there. Great experience! Don't miss it!

We really like this place. Im currently sitting in the dining area having coffee while courteous staff prepare a home cooked breakfast. Our room was great. When I past a staff member I was always asked if I needed anything or how my room was. The man that gave us our key was very nice and had alot to share about the area. There is a down home, your with family, feeling here. When we come again we will definitely stay here.

Angie and Matthew were amazing hosts. The place has a lot of stairs to get to the upper cabins and a little aged on the outside. The room was super clean and very cozy. Breakfast every morning was different and delicious. I would definately stay again. Bring a Roku or fire stick because not many channels to watch, basic cable. Very close to many waterfalls and hiking spots. Cannot say enough about the service, after a heavy rain they even dried my tennis shoes so we could hike the next day. Thank you.

First time at Helen, GA. It definitely reminds us of cities that have a lot of specialty shops and restaurants for any person looking for adventure. However, staying at the Black Forest Bed and The accommodations were very comfortable, and breakfast was definitely a very enjoyable experience. The rooms all have hot tubs and fireplaces. The decor is eclectic. It is like stepping into a bit of history even though there are modern amenities. Breakfast was the very best I have experienced at a hotel, or other B&B in over 20 years of personal or professional travel. Fresh fruit, blueberry/pecan pancakes, eggs cooked with special cheesy sauce, bacon, sausage, in generous portions.

Incredible 3 Night Stay! If you are looking for a fantastic place to stay and feel safe here is the spot! The atmosphere was top tier, the food every morning was prepared by Matt and Angie from scratch. Everyday they serve fruit a meat and a different pancake! Coffee and OJ plus other drink accommodations. They keep the place up to date. This is a perfect get away for a KIDS FREE trip!! This is a romantic get away destination. The rooms are so clean and the beds are comfortable. Pack your own toiletries like shampoo and care like that. They have mini refrigerators microwaves, and a small coffee maker. And a fire place! Also if you own a car that needs to be charged they allow you to plug in as long as you ask nicely. Thank you Matt and Angie for this wonderful memory and stay

My GF Pat & I just spent a long weekend here. Angie & Matt were amazing hosts. The room was larger than I expected. BFB&B was located very close to the main area of town. It was within walking distance of everything. The breakfast each morning was again, bigger than I expected. Dozens of items available & all of them delicious. 10/10 & definitely recommend this gem.

I had a great stay at the Black Forest Bed and Breakfast in Helen. It’s a simple, no-frills place, but it really worked out perfectly for me. Angie was welcoming and easy to talk to, and her hospitality made the whole experience feel comfortable. The room was clean and had everything I needed. Breakfast in the morning was the highlight—Angie puts real care into it, and it was the best way to start the day before heading out in town. If you’re looking for a straightforward, comfortable place with a personal touch, I’d definitely recommend it.

The attraction allows guests to pan for gold and sift through gemstones, providing an unforgettable adventure suitable for all ages. My husband and I mined here the end of March 2025. We found so many beautiful stones!!! We also got two of them polished and shaped into pendants and asked them to use some of our small emeralds to repair his wedding ring. We had to wait about 2 1/2 months for them to get here BUT they were always available for an update, we’re very courteous and the end result was WELLL WORTH THE WAIT!!!! We are so happy! Thank you so much, Chad!!!! Beautiful work!

Weird vibe going in there. The whole place just smells like cigarettes. If you go and the plastic walls are rolled up, the smell should not be a problem, but they were down when we were there. So might be better to go later in the day once they have rolled the plastic up so the place can start getting aired out. But at least you dont need to pay for parking, like some places in town.

The staff were friendly and helpful. There’s an electric vehicle charging station outside. We weren’t overly impressed with the amount/quality of gems in a gallon bucket, but our kids are mostly impressed with the translucent/shiny stones as opposed to the dull/opaque options. We all had a great time exploring the treasures in the store area.

We had the pleasure of visiting this cool spot right before we left to drive back home. I arrived carrying a big bag of fudge (one of the things I am 100% buying anytime I visit), and Ron (the owner I believe) offered to put it in his fridge! It was so thoughtful. I had such a fun time with my daughter “panning” in the cool, shady, AC’d area and we found a ton of cool artifacts. Ron’s son (forgot his name but I know it’s and R name!) explained and taught us some cool facts about the things we found, and I found some really nice selenite pieces in the little shop. Ron, his son, and the lady that helped me in the shop were so friendly (like most locals in Helen!) and I really enjoyed chatting with them and spending an afternoon here. Can’t wait to plan another trip to Helen soon, the PERFECT escape from city life 💜

It was our first time gem mining/gold panning. Visited 3 times in the same day because my kids (teens) loved it! Shasta really made it a fun experience! He is VERY knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic. Can tell you all kinds of information on gems, rocks, fossils and gold panning. It’s a great activity rain or shine. It’s covered with fans so it’s a nice break from sun too. Recommend for the whole family.

Excellent place to try this unique experience. It is right off the main street in a building housing several other businesses. It is located on the south side of the building. You check in at the front and sign waivers either physically or electronically. You choose which lane you want. I believe that there are 6 lanes with chain link separators. There are tables for the people in your party who may not want to throw or may just want to watch. The wood target that you are throwing at has to be prepared by coating it with water. Once this is done you can start throwing or you can ask for pointers. They start the timer on your lane when you tell them are you ready. I had a great time. Joseph was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in both getting me started and teaching the basics of the art. I spent an hour practicing and learning how to throw short, long, and speed hatchets. He was nice enough to teach me lots of pointers before starting the clock so that I had the maximum amount of time to actually try the various hatchet. He would also provide me with pointers when I was missing the target. It was fun, entertaining, and good exercise. I highly recommend it.

The Alpine Festival of Arts and Crafts is a great place to find unique gifts for your friends, as well as political incorrect gifts. There's a wide variety of items for sale, from dolls to crafting materials to antiques.

I was very disappointed by the horrendous treatment my family received at Alpine Festive of the Arts & Crafts in Helen. I was there with my children in the toy section, and they were picking out souvenirs for our trip. I knew there was a problem when the owner/manager (older grumpy woman with really long gray/blond hair) began not-so-covertly watching us from behind a Beanie Baby display. When I asked if there was a bathroom, she snarled "No! It's across the street, and you need to watch your kids or get out because they're running around and touching everything! They're going to break something!!!" Those are literally the very first words she spoke to me. I explained to her that my children were standing with me the entire time and they were only touching toys (that were out on the floor and at kid-touching eye level...in the toy section) as they were selecting what to purchase. She was instantly very angry and nasty. She genuinely looked as though she hated us (Hmm...I wonder why???) and insisted that they were going to break something and that we should "get out of the store." She continued to remark about how my kids were running all over the store and was clearly flustered when I pointed out that (1) all of my children were standing right there next to me watching her (foolish crazy behavior) and (2) all brown children in a store at the same time do not necessarily belong to the same mother (there were other brown families with children there and ***gasp*** we weren't related). I assured her that I would pay for anything and everything my children broke, as unlikely as that was, and calmly pointed out that the only thing my child, a 3 year old, had was a stuffed animal...which we were planning on purchasing before she lost her mind. I'm not sure how anyone breaks a stuffed animal, but after she continued to tell us to "get out" as my children were staring at her, my 7-year-old asked me, "Mommy, why does that lady hate us?" And on that note...we left. This store is horrible. The owner/manager is evil. I would NEVER come here again, and I suggest that families with children find one of the nice family-friendly Helen shops in which to spend their money.
Amber J — Google review
It was located on top of a hill, lots of steps to reach it, not many vendors, items over priced, just not worth the drive for me personally.
Rhonda Z — Google review
I went to this store picking out something that I liked but wanted to check the other shops since I’ve never been to this Helen town. I come back 10 minutes before they close knowing they close at 6pm, the door is locked and a woman (with brown hair in a pony tail) sweeping wouldn’t unlock it. Then I proceed to call. A woman picked up the phone and I said “I guess you guys closed early, but I already know what I want. I would just have to grab it and check out.” She said “we already shut down the computers.” This was on 12/22/22 at 5:50pm. Managers, you may want to check on your employees who are pulling business from your company. Thanks! Happy Holidays!
Chelle R — Google review
Not a bad place for your typical tourist-type of stuff. Helen is a great place to go, and you can find numerous similar stores in town. This specific store seems to be the largest such type in Helen. I give it the two stars because I didn’t find the employees, on 3 separate occasions, to be the most polite or helpful. I also noticed an overcharge when things are added-up by hand at the counter.
TheBunnychildChannel — Google review
I absolutely love this store in Helen! It's definitely one of my favorites! However I do not like the customer service that is provided. Especially, on Sunday's when there is only one person running the entire store. The store is pretty big and I personally feel that there should be more customer service reps to help out in the shop. Considering it is Helen, and Helen is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state of Georgia.
Laura W — Google review
BUYER BEWARE!!! My two teenagers went in the store to buy a few souvenirs and the lady Ripped them off! She raised the price on Every item when clearly the prices were on the items. They bought only 6 junk items for $60+ which was outrageous! Scammer. Do not let your kids go in and buy without your presence, mind you they were 16,19. Had I been there, I would have caught that she was trying to rip them off.

While we were waiting to be seated at a restaurant nearby, we stopped at this charming art studio & gift shop. I bought a beautiful color changing candle and I’m obsessed!! We are definitely going back!!

I live in Dahlonega but was visiting Helen with family from out of state. I loved every single thing in her store. She gave my daughter a necklace. I can’t wait to head back and discuss her handmade soap.
