Unassuming entrance with displays and information on the history and story of Carnaval in Montevideo. There are guides in 4 languages at the entry desk and it is a nominal entrance fee ($150 or about 4USD). Most of the museum is in Spanish with maybe a quarter to a third also having English. Good place to see traditional costumes and see some film of performances. There is a stage and seating in the back where performances can be held. Was here on Ash Wednesday so they were presumably closing up that portion for the season.

A fun museum to visit and learn about the history of Carnaval and see the different costumes throughout history. For 150 UYU, it's well worth the price. Be forewarned that all the signage is in Spanish and compared to other museums, it's on the smaller side.

Lovely museum, I spent an hour here. Parallel Halls, one of which is devoted to the flamboyant Carnival costumes and the other has a large screen playing scenes from previous carnivals as well as old photos and other memorabilia. Right at the back, outside, there is a small open air stage with seating. They are using this for carnival shows, next one starting at 9.00pm tomorrow, 29th Feb.

The Carnival Museum is close to the Port Market. There is an admission fee, it’s small but it has all kinds of carnival costumes, quite a lovely place, except we missed the performance that day

I remember being able to drive into the building, where there were stacks of fruit and vegetable crates. Now you can buy US$1500 per bottle wines at Iber if you have bank. Nice meat market and “chicken boutique” (I’m not kidding!). Have a chivito in the food court and top it off with an ice cream sundae! The neighborhood of the market has also been upgraded, though it retains a bit of the urban grit that characterized its now distant past. Convenient parking out front but bring some small bills to tip the attendants. Les Halles in Paris are long gone, but Mercado Agricola still lives.

A really nice market and place to go try new food, buy your groceries for the day, fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry and so much more. There are mini-markets, a pharmacy, two nice coffee shops, various fast food places, pizza places and a whole bunch of other choices for your lunch or dinner. Is also a nice place to visit for a while, it’s big and spacious. It has a place for kids, however it’s not the best place to bring kids specifically, it’s more of a family plan. The only downside is that it is a noisy place when it’s crowded, acoustics don’t help the space when there too many people talking together.

It’s a really nice public beach with a nice stretch of sand. The iconic rainbow Montevideo sign is nearby. There are plenty of stores, restaurants and even a gym nearby. It is next to the Pocitos neighbourhood which is quite nice, clean and well organized.

Free entrance to a place with great views of Montevideo. For those coming with bikes, I'll let you know that there's a bike rack after the glass doors. For those traveling with their pets, I warn you that it is NOT pet friendly, unfortunately.

Great spot for a free panorama view of the city. They also show you different buildings in view so you know what’s, what. Only downer is that glass isn’t always very clean, but awesome that the city has this! The cafe has free wifi and is more affordable than most places. Can be a bottle neck with the elevators as only 6 are allowed in at a time.

Loved loved loved it! The service was amazing, the restaurant is beautiful and clean and each dish we tasted, including the drinks, were delicious. It was my husband's birthday, which I mentioned on our table booking online and the staff surprised him with a delicious cake and sang happy birthday, which was lovely, especially as we're celebrating so far away from our family and friends. Upscale, clean place. Good service. What irritated me was being charged $4+US "cubierto" which is some sort of cover charge for the table. What? And then tip. So my $16US cheeseburger and fries, and water was $24 total. 80 countries to date and I've never seen a cover charge in a restaurant like this. Food was already fairly pricey. Felt cheated.

Another shady square, this one the central square of old Montevideo. There appeared to be a market, or at least street traders there on the day we visited. The architecture around the square is beautiful as is the fountain which is the focal point.

There are 3 tiers of basin, each with carved griffins. 🏛️ The central post has emblazoned several symbols including the National Coat of Arms of Uruguay. 🏛️🏛️🏛️ The sides of main basin are important dates about history of Uruguay like the date of the ratification of the constitution and date of the Declaration of Independence of the Republica Oriental del Uruguay.

Tree lined square within walking distance from the port. There is a cathedral. But may not open if too early. There is also a McDonald’s nearby. In the center there is a good looking fountain.

This is my favourite plaza here as it is so green and relaxing. Lots of shade provided by the beautiful sycamore trees, and plenty of benches where you can sit. A church faces onto one side of the square. Around the area there are plenty of places to eat and some small craft stalls within the plaza.

The facilitie is ok. But the fee for entrance is expensive.

It’s nice park by the rambla and if you need some shade during the day, it’s a perfect place to have a quick rest. There is bus stop nearby and convenience store is only a block away.

Lovely little square, well looked after thanks to the Shopping Centre making donations. The play area has recently been renovated with new swings, roundabout, shute etc. Great for taking small children.

If you own a big sedan car or an american pick up truck like a Ford Raptor or a Chevy Silverado,please park outside in the street,the actual parking lot was designed somehow for chinese cars,meaning the parking spots are very small and tight. No room. Otherwise a splendid mall to spend a few hours. The food court has plenty options,including a BK, a NY style pizza place, a Mc Donalds with a drive through,but again,no big cars or pick up trucks.

Shopping is good and the mall is safe but neighborhood is not so safe . Best part is it has access to every part of the city. Crowd who goes there is not so good and please take care of your belongings when you are walking around and catching a bus. You find lot of young guys and girls outside and most of them wait to rob you the way possible. Nothing happened to me but I had seen a guy getting robbed infront and police caught them in 2 minutes.. you find policeman all the time but please take care of yourself and watch the surroundings.

Plus it has this arcade thing at the top I can take my kids too with all the cartoons I remember as a kid. My kids have no idea who those characters are, but how else am I going to prove life existed before them?

The hotel is well located in the heart of Montevideo (downtown). Very convenient for those who really need to to something in there. However, the hotel is an old boulding with very limited and tiny 🛗 elevators. Maximum of 3 people. The hotel itself has a very breakfast included. No eggs, or hot prepared items. Just pastries 🍰 ham and cheese. and obviously coffee. There are some breakfast servants that assist guest during breakfast time are pretty much controlling people. You cannot bring luggage in the area, you cannot take glass or other ware to the lobby. I ask Alejandra why we cannot take a cup of coffe. It looks like previous customers take everything with them (stealing). On the other side, rooms are very small, sheets were not cleaned. The restrooms is very and smellly. Hotel was in a good location and was very clean. However the room was next to the lift and it was impossible to sleep because of the noise. We asked at 7am to change and were told ok by 10am, the receptionist was rude, condescending and gave no proper communication...we still had no room by 12h and wasted half a day, of a 2 day trip!

A very basic hotel with small rooms. The breakfast was good. The location was okay but not much evidence of any police patrols on foot. Buses nearby and 1 block from a busy street with a fair amount of shops, cafes, and restaurants. It has an annoying buzzer that is loud and goes off every time the front door is open.

It’s „okay“ there. We stayed on the last floor, first the hot water wasn’t working and then they changed us to a different room but that’s okay, can’t be their fault. But what’s really a downside is the elevator. It’s soo loud you even hear it from the other side when you are in your room. If you are on a business trip I can’t recommend the Hotel but if you want to cheap out it’s maybe an option for you!

Became my home ✨ Didn't have intentions of visiting Uruguay but last minute had to make the diversion and Gerardo was super quick to get back to me. I booked direct and it was so easy. Airport pickup was organised also. The hostel itself is fab. The space is just a wonderful community space. There is a living/TV area with netflix and HBO, eating/cowork space in the same area, comfy seating area at the front, front patio and back garden with BBQ and seating. Big shared kitchen with all your basic kitchen necessities. It was spotless. Cleaning never stopped, whoever was on shift (there's somebody on shift 24hrs!) was always pottering cleaning something. The cleanest hostel I've been in. The vibe was something else. The staff/long termers became like family, everybody was just so kind and welcoming, including me in whatever. But there was plenty of space if you felt like having time to yourself. Breakfast is all you can eat between 8am and 11am, it's basic but more than sufficient for $5 and the breakfast cake OMG I've had to join a gym as I became obsessed with it. Made fresh every morning. Had a great stay here! We had a quiet and air conditioned room at the back of the house with its own terrace. Lovely kitchen and garden area. It has a very nice home feel. Only advice is to give the kitchen & bathrooms a deep clean!

Not a great place. It was full of long stayers who practically lived there, cause to either worked in the hostel or somewhere else. I felt very unwelcome from the getgo. Rooms were smelly, noisy and full of light. Slept horrible. Staff was friendly though.

The place is really dirty, the bathroom smells like urine permanently and the kitchen utensils have stains that show that they haven’t been properly cleaned in quite a long time. As the City of Montevideo continues to density and develop, parks and other public open spaces become even more precious and critical to the health of the inhabitants. There is an amusement park for children, a roller skating and skateboarding rink for everyone (with exercise equipment nearby), and there is the Rambla for walking, jogging, cycling, and people watching. There are volleyball games in the summer and are public bathrooms year round at the McDonald's across the street. My favorite thing to do there is to meditate with the sight sound and feel of the ocean.
