Military Museums
Fortaleza del Cerro, also known as Fortress Hill, is a historic Spanish fortress located on the highest hill in Montevideo. Built in 1809 to defend against naval attacks, it now houses a military museum showcasing Uruguay's defense history. The fortress offers panoramic views of Montevideo Bay and features a 19th-century lighthouse.
Well worth the visit to this historic fortress, situated on a high hill overlooking Montevideo and the bay, canons pointed outwards. Tons of old guns, canons, mortars, swords, and other relics to see. Lots of information available about the history. Great place to take some photos, and a bit Montevideo sign right next to the fort. Cheap entry for just $2 USD, cash only.

Fortaleza del Cerro – Montevideo A must-visit when in Montevideo! Fortaleza del Cerro offers stunning panoramic views of the city and coastline—truly one of the best spots to take in the beauty of Uruguay’s capital. The historic fortress itself is impressive and filled with interesting military history and artifacts, giving you a glimpse into Uruguay's past. It's perched on the highest point in the city, so the vistas are absolutely worth the drive. Peaceful, scenic, and rich in history—a great spot for photos and reflection. Just be mindful of the area and go during daylight hours. Definitely recommend
Aracelis S — Google review
If you visit Montevideo and like panoramic views, this is an absolute must. Make sure day is clear and without rain and the view from here is amazing. Truly Historic and so many items have been kept there for that purpose. And it's absolutely free.
Basil B — Google review
This is a lovely spot to visit to get great views of Montevideo. The fort itself has a pretty comprehensive military museum for $50 pesos. Go on a sunny day! No info in English. Free parking available.
Nicki S — Google review
Wonderful position with an open view on Montevideo, well organized museum with artifacts and explanations on Uruguay history. A must to visit, including the Cerro barrio and its riverside and Playa which I personally think are too underrated and not enough valued and promoted.
Luca C — Google review
One of my favorite places in Montevideo. Offers a great view of the city and has some very cool pieces of history. We paid 50 pesos per person.
Jeferson K — Google review
Open until 5pm, this small but cute museum is worth the visit. Entrance is $2, or $50 Uruguayan. Should only take about an hour to visit the entire museum. Don’t forget to go to the jail in the cellar!

Specialty Museums
The Museo del Carnaval in Montevideo is a vibrant museum showcasing the annual carnival with its extravagant costumes, masks, and open-air stage. It offers a comprehensive overview of the colorful event, featuring past parade floats, costumes, and an evocative photographic exhibition documenting the evolution of celebrations. The museum provides insight into Uruguay's capital city's 40-day-long carnival celebration with drum troupes, samba dancing, and murgas across 16 neighborhoods.
Small and simple museum that reviews the interesting history of the Carnival in Montevideo. There is also a section dedicated to Carlos Paez Vilaró and the influence of the carnival and its culture in his works of art.
Caro B — Google review
Unassuming entrance with displays and information on the history and story of Carnaval in Montevideo. There are guides in 4 languages at the entry desk and it is a nominal entrance fee ($150 or about 4USD). Most of the museum is in Spanish with maybe a quarter to a third also having English. Good place to see traditional costumes and see some film of performances. There is a stage and seating in the back where performances can be held. Was here on Ash Wednesday so they were presumably closing up that portion for the season.
Benjamin G — Google review
A fun museum to visit and learn about the history of Carnaval and see the different costumes throughout history. For 150 UYU, it's well worth the price. Be forewarned that all the signage is in Spanish and compared to other museums, it's on the smaller side.
James — Google review
Amazing performance! Some of the most powerful voices I've ever heard. The singers sang with all of their hearts and souls!
LuvaHug A — Google review
Nice , very welcoming. Nice customs and history if carnival in Uruguay and Montevideo. Could have more live, and other interaction though. In its current setup, at most 30 min and visit is complete.
Rami S — Google review
Fantastic! Fun place, and remarkable costumes. Well worth going, and it is close to some of the best food offerings in town, like Sometimes Sunday or Mercado del Puerto (pricey, but many excellent little restaurants).
Crystal S — Google review
Lovely museum, I spent an hour here. Parallel Halls, one of which is devoted to the flamboyant Carnival costumes and the other has a large screen playing scenes from previous carnivals as well as old photos and other memorabilia. Right at the back, outside, there is a small open air stage with seating. They are using this for carnival shows, next one starting at 9.00pm tomorrow, 29th Feb.
Miles M — Google review
The Carnival Museum is close to the Port Market. There is an admission fee, it’s small but it has all kinds of carnival costumes, quite a lovely place, except we missed the performance that day

The Mercado Agrícola de Montevideo, also known as MAM, is a vibrant gastronomic destination that offers a wide array of experiences. Visitors can explore and purchase fresh local produce, farm products, and artisanal organic or gourmet delights. The market also features gift shops, specialty stores, and a food court where families can enjoy a leisurely lunch. On weekends, the culinary experience is enhanced with live music and orchestras adding cultural value to the dining atmosphere.
Great place and atmospheric. Enjoyable lunch from one of the booths
Jacky H — Google review
It’s quite a big market with a large variety of shops, not just agricultural shops. You can still buy agricultural products like fruit, veg and meat there, but they also have clothing, toy and other stores. There is a nice food court and coffee shops to sit.
Gerhard S — Google review
It is a nice place with some fruit & vegetable stores, and many other stores. It leaves an impression of a big supermarket more than an agricultural market. Also, the fruits on the street and small fruit stores are better and cheaper than here. We were planning to see a real market and buy some fruits, but end up coming out empty handed.
Ashod M — Google review
Great place for locales. We were the only tourists there. Otherwise everyone was local doing their shopping. Great groceries. BEAUTIFUL building.
Paul G — Google review
Lots of food stalls and shops, was good for a quick lunch.
Jenn L — Google review
Fans of the American actress Mae West (“Too much of a good thing is…terrific!”) will find this revitalized historic marketplace to be a spectacle worth a visit (at least once). Uruguay has come a long way since being a relatively poor country in the 1980’s, witness this palace of contemporary consumption. There are a variety of stores, places to eat, bars and places to hang out. Prior to its rebirth as an urban shopping venue, it was a collection point for farm produce. I remember being able to drive into the building, where there were stacks of fruit and vegetable crates. Now you can buy US$1500 per bottle wines at Iber if you have bank. Nice meat market and “chicken boutique” (I’m not kidding!). Have a chivito in the food court and top it off with an ice cream sundae! The neighborhood of the market has also been upgraded, though it retains a bit of the urban grit that characterized its now distant past. Convenient parking out front but bring some small bills to tip the attendants. Les Halles in Paris are long gone, but Mercado Agricola still lives.
Paul N — Google review
A really nice market and place to go try new food, buy your groceries for the day, fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry and so much more. There are mini-markets, a pharmacy, two nice coffee shops, various fast food places, pizza places and a whole bunch of other choices for your lunch or dinner. Is also a nice place to visit for a while, it’s big and spacious. It has a place for kids, however it’s not the best place to bring kids specifically, it’s more of a family plan. The only downside is that it is a noisy place when it’s crowded, acoustics don’t help the space when there too many people talking together.
Emilia G — Google review
Amazing place. Lot of eateries. Some amazing shops like El Palacio Del Cafe, Fini, El Horno De Juan. A good place to relax after shopping at Arenal Grande.

De los Pocitos Beach, located in Montevideo, is a popular city beach known for its lively boardwalk, golden sands, and picturesque promenade. It offers visitors the chance to unwind and enjoy activities such as beach volleyball, sunbathing, and leisurely strolls against the backdrop of the glistening waters of the River Plate.
This beach is very beautiful and clean, which cannot be said about the water. I had no desire to swim in this brown water. In addition, in Montevideo there are constant cool winds (even in summer) and if you come out of the water wet, you will be cold. I advise you to take a large towel to wrap yourself up well. In the evening you can meet many beautiful girls and guys walking along the Rambla
Tatiana K — Google review
It’s a really nice public beach with a nice stretch of sand. The iconic rainbow Montevideo sign is nearby. There are plenty of stores, restaurants and even a gym nearby. It is next to the Pocitos neighbourhood which is quite nice, clean and well organized.

Also a collection of images of the historic city and a nice cafe. Restrooms available as well. Even for long time residents a good way to see the city as it has changed so much over the past decade and continues to grow.

Free entrance to a place with great views of Montevideo. For those coming with bikes, I'll let you know that there's a bike rack after the glass doors. For those traveling with their pets, I warn you that it is NOT pet friendly, unfortunately.

Great spot for a free panorama view of the city. They also show you different buildings in view so you know what’s, what. Only downer is that glass isn’t always very clean, but awesome that the city has this! The cafe has free wifi and is more affordable than most places. Upscale, clean place. Good service. What irritated me was being charged $4+US "cubierto" which is some sort of cover charge for the table. What? And then tip. So my $16US cheeseburger and fries, and water was $24 total. 80 countries to date and I've never seen a cover charge in a restaurant like this. Food was already fairly pricey. Felt cheated.

For visitors to the City it is one of the must-see places, together with a stroll along the pedestrian street, Sarandí, toward the Plaza Zabala. An appropriate point of arrival and departure for exploration of the many interesting things to see/experience in the Ciudad Vieja.

Another shady square, this one the central square of old Montevideo. There appeared to be a market, or at least street traders there on the day we visited. The architecture around the square is beautiful as is the fountain which is the focal point.

🏛️🏛️🏛️🏛️🏛️ It is a HISTORICAL SQUARE, THE OLDEST PARK OS MONTEVIDEO founded 1726, two years after the founding of the city. It was the center of community life of the city. Then in 1851, the park had a face lift with the planting of trees and design of footpaths. Construction of a pipeline to pump water from Santa Lucia and building followed in 1868. In 1871, water appeared in the park and was inaugurated that year. The fountain is a beautiful functional structure. There are 3 tiers of basin, each with carved griffins. 🏛️ The central post has emblazoned several symbols including the National Coat of Arms of Uruguay. 🏛️🏛️🏛️ The sides of main basin are important dates about history of Uruguay like the date of the ratification of the constitution and date of the Declaration of Independence of the Republica Oriental del Uruguay.

Tree lined square within walking distance from the port. There is a cathedral. But may not open if too early. There is also a McDonald’s nearby. In the center there is a good looking fountain.
Harry Z — Google review
This is my favourite plaza here as it is so green and relaxing. Lots of shade provided by the beautiful sycamore trees, and plenty of benches where you can sit. A church faces onto one side of the square. Around the area there are plenty of places to eat and some small craft stalls within the plaza.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Plaza Tomas Gomensoro is a square in Montevideo, Uruguay that offers stunning views of the sea. The upper level of the plaza is designed to be relaxing and comfortable, while the lower level provides a space for people to sit and relax. There are several top class restaurants and cafes around the plaza as well as luxury hotels. Be careful at night in this park as it can be dangerous.
One of Montevideo’s nicest urban plazas on two levels. The upper tier is accessible directly from Juan Benito Blanco, and there are stairs leading down to the level of the Rambla República del Peru. The plaza is handicapped accessible for both levels from the main street frontages. The place is remarkably quiet given the amount of traffic on the perimeter and really serves as an urban oasis. Families with young children are more likely to use the lower level where there is a large pergola structure where kids can play and there is ample seating. The upper level is a great place to relax and with nice views. Good restaurants and cafes nearby. Note: Pedestrian connection between the plaza across the Rambla to the Pocitos beach is a challenge — there is no crosswalk. Parking is also a challenge — best to arrive on foot, by bus or taxi.

If you own a big sedan car or an american pick up truck like a Ford Raptor or a Chevy Silverado, please park outside in the street, the actual parking lot was designed somehow for chinese cars, meaning the parking spots are very small and tight. No room. Otherwise a splendid mall to spend a few hours. The food court has plenty options, including a BK, a NY style pizza place, a Mc Donalds with a drive through, but again,no big cars or pick up trucks.

Resort hotel
Hotel Europa is a modest hotel that provides complimentary continental breakfast, an informal dining option, and a piano bar. The staff is known for their friendliness and the hotel's location is convenient. While some guests found it challenging to regulate room temperature at night, they appreciated the provision of extra blankets. Additionally, there were comments about aging mattresses and noise from the nearby elevator. Despite these drawbacks, many visitors praised the cleanliness of the hotel and its reasonable pricing.
The staff were friendly, the location was good, and the price was reasonable. Breakfast was good and had many options. The downsides were that it was hard to get the room warm enough at night (but they did bring us an extra blanket), the mattresses seemed to be a bit old, and our room was next to the elevator which was quite loud at night.
Julia S — Google review
The hotel is well located in the heart of Montevideo (downtown). Very convenient for those who really need to to something in there. However, the hotel is an old boulding with very limited and tiny 🛗 elevators. Maximum of 3 people. The hotel itself has a very breakfast included. No eggs, or hot prepared items. Just pastries 🍰 ham and cheese. and obviously coffee. There are some breakfast servants that assist guest during breakfast time are pretty much controlling people. You cannot bring luggage in the area, you cannot take glass or other ware to the lobby. I ask Alejandra why we cannot take a cup of coffe. It looks like previous customers take everything with them (stealing). On the other side, rooms are very small, sheets were not cleaned. The restrooms is very and smellly. We have to ask room service to change shower courtain. It was pretty bad. In overall, cheap and well located hotel in Montevideo 🇺🇾
Ricardo M — Google review
Hotel was in a good location and was very clean. However the room was next to the lift and it was impossible to sleep because of the noise. We asked at 7am to change and were told ok by 10am, the receptionist was rude, condescending and gave no proper communication...we still had no room by 12h and wasted half a day, of a 2 day trip!
Kaye H — Google review
A very basic hotel with small rooms. The breakfast was good. The location was okay but not much evidence of any police patrols on foot. Buses nearby and 1 block from a busy street with a fair amount of shops, cafes, and restaurants. It has an annoying buzzer that is loud and goes off every time the front door is open.
Better B — Google review
It’s „okay“ there. We stayed on the last floor, first the hot water wasn’t working and then they changed us to a different room but that’s okay, can’t be their fault. But what’s really a downside is the elevator. It’s soo loud you even hear it from the other side when you are in your room. If you are on a business trip I can’t recommend the Hotel but if you want to cheap out it’s maybe an option for you!
Bernhard M — Google review
I like this hotel - pretty good
Seán G — Google review
DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL. Rooms have the toilet next to the sink table so you dont fit comfortably DO NOT ORDER FOOD it is not made at the hotel (there is a sign in the elevator saying this) is DELIVERY food served to you not even on the dish but directly on the plastic package that arrives (see photo) heated at microwave, so they even heated the letchuce and tomato. Shower does not closd fully sincd it does not have a door, so the floor of the bathroom gets all wet. Rooms have street noise. Location is the great asset and because it was booked by my copany i assume it is cheap. Breakfast is average but after all what i lived here, by far the best of all.

In itself a nice hotel, but unfortunately the management is completely overwhelmed with his job. It can not and should not be that a simple problem like an alarm system malfunction keeps the whole system awake every night. The staff unfortunately can not do anything and the noise is heard throughout the house. Anyone who wants to be accommodated on decent conditions should avoid this hotel. I do not even want to know how they handle more complex issues. A burst pipe in the room above you ???? Maybe we'll give out umbrellas after three days. Vermin in the room ... = Not our problem, but yours ... Customer and solution-oriented action is not to be expected here. Save your money and book elsewhere.

Cute and fun hostel. The owner is nice and the stuff is kind as well. They'll help you out, whatever you need. Laundry service is good and fair priced. The 9 bed dorm has 3x3 bunk beds, but they are not in one construction, so you do not get disturbed, when others move into their beds. Sockets and lights per bed, ac in the room. The kitchen is big and we'll equiped. Outdoor area is spacious and cool. Would come again.

The facilities of the hostel are alright, the rooms are spacious, but there is a lack of bathrooms for the amount of people that are there. The kitchen is alright and the patio is nice as well. But be aware that there are a lot of men staying in the hostel!! If you're a female solo traveler I would not recommend this place! I had a bad experience with another guest staying there, and the hostel team definitely helped me out a lot and handled the situation well, but I would still not go back. The location is alright and in a pretty safe area though

Became my home ✨ Didn't have intentions of visiting Uruguay but last minute had to make the diversion and Gerardo was super quick to get back to me. I booked direct and it was so easy. Airport pickup was organised also. The hostel itself is fab. The space is just a wonderful community space. There is a living/TV area with netflix and HBO, eating/cowork space in the same area, comfy seating area at the front, front patio and back garden with BBQ and seating. Big shared kitchen with all your basic kitchen necessities. It was spotless. Cleaning never stopped, whoever was on shift (there's somebody on shift 24hrs!) was always pottering cleaning something. The cleanest hostel I've been in. The vibe was something else. The staff/long termers became like family, everybody was just so kind and welcoming, including me in whatever. But there was plenty of space if you felt like having time to yourself. Breakfast is all you can eat between 8am and 11am, it's basic but more than sufficient for $5 and the breakfast cake OMG I've had to join a gym as I became obsessed with it. Made fresh every morning. Will 100% be back, echando a todos mucho de menos 💗

Do not recommend at all. The place is really dirty, the bathroom smells like urine permanently and the kitchen utensils have stains that show that they haven’t been properly cleaned in quite a long time. At Don Pincho - Shawarma y Asado, the culinary experience is nothing short of spectacular. This vibrant eatery showcases a traditional parrilla, where skilled asadors expertly grill an array of meats, sausages, vegetables, and even cheese over glowing wood embers. The dining experience unfolds gradually; guests savor each dish as it’s ready rather than all at once.
Usually I am a fan of asado and not a big fan of shawarma, but this time I decided to order both - asado (beef shashlyk) and shawarma novillo. The asado was amazing, the sauce fit meat perfectly! Also it was so tasty to eat asado together with lavash 🥹 And also I was extremely impressed by shawarma The price is absolutely great for such tasty and fulfilling food! I will always order shawarma there, thank you!

Sorry to say, for us it was worst accommodation in 2 weeks of Uruguay travel. We had a room with own bathroom. Good things: English speaking stuff and enough parking lots on the street, shared kitchen available, they accepted earlier checkin, thanks for that. Bad things: The room was a nightmare (ground floor), felt dirty floor and bed, uncomfortable, AC cleaning and bathroom maintenance requiered. It was loud, because stairs over the room, kitchen and terrace nearby, difficult to sleep after a long flight. We had better hostels in Uruguay. Recommend to make the rooms more comfortable.

This a public square (plaza) built to honor Bruno Mauricio Zabala who founded the city of Montevideo back in 1700s when he was a Viceroy representing the Spanish crown The Plaza itself was not established until 1890!when the equestrian statue was installed. But it was not until 1931 when the Plaza was officially inaugurated. The plaza is notable for its old trees. The equestrian statue is rather unusual because at base are sculpted a representation of an Uruguayan family with its notable cow, and another representation is the Gaucho and his flock. The park is quite peaceful 😎😎😎.

Plaza Zabala is one of the most beautiful and classical squares in Montevideo. It is an island of tranquility in an otherwise very busy and often noisy, dense urban area. For visitors and permanent residents alike, this place is simply an idyllic experience (especially on a sunny day). While the park is often full of people, the ample and varied seating (as well as sitting on the grass) holds everyone without feeling crowded. There’s plenty of benches and open grass areas for resting and spending hours reading a book or drawing. The greatest bonus was the cute cats roaming around and just lounging.

Delightful park/botanic garden for walking and just enjoying being outside in a beautiful environment. There are paved and compacted earth paths that are navigable by wheelchairs, rollators and strollers. Plenty of seating and bathrooms on site. As the City of Montevideo continues to density and develop, parks and other public open spaces become even more precious and critical to the health of the inhabitants. Most people do not appreciate the amount of resources - human, financial, even political - required to maintain and improve municipal park systems. The well known parks of Montevideo were designed and built generations ago when civic ambition and activism came together with experts in botany, landscape design, and politicians willing to build the public realm (even as the country was still of modest means). While the botanic gardens are clean and pretty well maintained, the present funding and staffing are evident in lack of tagging specimens, additions to the collections and more active curation of plants/trees. Uruguayan patrons needed!

The Plaza De Cagancha in Centro is a popular destination for people in Montevideo who want to take a break from their day or just enjoy the company of others. The square features beautiful lights that cascade down from the roof of a circus, and there's also a stop at La Cigale ice cream store where you can find delicious Pismonte's Cream flavor. It's great place to relax and catch up with friends.
A beautiful historical park filled with an array of buildings from historical to modern infusion style departamentos. There are also a selection of street food merchants with the notable D'Italiano being accessible any time of the day. Yes all 24 hrs. Or you can spend time under the massive Christmas lights. Absolutely surreal to see in person, especially as it dawns on you that it covers both sides of street and a little more.
Rameel — Google review
Cagancha Square, originally named "New Town Square" was created in the late 1820 after Uruguay's independence. The old town was torn down and a new city developed. It was renamed Cagancha Square after the battle of Cagancha, which was decisive in the Uruguayan civil war which had followed after independence. It's a nice square with a centrally located column of peace, which during the Christmas season holds several light bulbs to illuminate. There's a water fountain and you find benches in the shade as well.
Sarah J — Google review
Plaza de Cagancha was built in 1836 as the central square of the new city's layout, at the time of the birth of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. In 1840, it received its current name in honor of the battle of the same name, when General Rivera defeated the invading forces of the Buenos Aires government. With the aim of consolidating the traditional parties, the Peace Column was inaugurated in 1867.

Needs to improve by an order of magnitude. Nearly empty beds, white powder on roses, … lots of TLC. I strongly suggest to work closely with the community of home gardeners in Montevideo.

Beautiful roses, benches to sit and enjoy the view at this peaceful place. Great for meditating and relaxing.

I was stunned by the mystical atmosphere of the park. Somehow I thought I was in the set of Pan's labyrinth. We went there several times because of the tranquility it has. There are different kinds of birds and being a guy from the big city, I really miss them singing. Don't miss this place!

Loveliest place in Montevideo. A must-see place.

I love this place! I always go there for walk around, sit on the grass and drink mate, the environment is quiet in contact with the nature... I don't know maybe the reason is I was born near from the prado, when you get Montevideo you have to go there!

Nice place. Far from city center. No restaurants close by. Residential area. Take your own food and water to spend some time by the shadow's trees.

Parque Francisco Lecocq, located near the city of Montevideo, is a picturesque and enchanting park. It boasts lush eucalyptus groves that provide ample shade and emit a pleasant fragrance, creating a serene ambiance for visitors to savor. While private transportation seems to be the most convenient way to reach the park, it remains uncertain whether public transportation options are available.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful place although currently quite neglected. It has plenty of stoves but several are destroyed. There is a lack of more signage, the animals may be cared for but they still don't show off because they seem somewhat deteriorated. The lions were conspicuous by their absence. The stand to buy chips, ice cream and soft drinks only accepts cash, no debit. It lacks maintenance and greater attention. (Original) Hermoso lugar aunque actualmente bastante descuidado. Trash bins are located throughout the park, and restrooms are very clean with hand soap and paper towels. Grills and tables are provided. There are a couple of beautiful viewing points. It's huge. There are zebras, llamas, monkeys, and more. Food is available for sale, and pedal-powered carts and bicycles are available for rent. Perfect for a lovely weekend. Nothing negative to say, highly recommended. (Original) Hermoso parque! Árboles, pasto, senderos para caminar, para transitar en bici o en carritos. Muy cuidado. Playa Ramirez is a relaxed city destination known for its beautiful beach and promenade, offering stunning sunset views. Located near downtown and Rodo Park, this 1.4-kilometer crescent along La Rambla provides various activities on the sand and in the calm waters, making it perfect for families. The area also features bars, cafes, restaurants, hotels, and the National Museum of Visual Arts.
Nice and chill beach. Restaurants closeby and street Workout

This is a lovely little beach, right in the city centre. Popular place to take kids at the weekend. It seemed quite busy even when I was there in March. If you are staying in Montevideo and want to sit on the beach for a bit, this is the ideal place to come.
Andy S — Google review
Underrated little beach in a great location. Good for, you guessed it, sunsets. Adjacent Carnival style park. Nice media Luna crescent shape to it. Good vibes and friendly people. Nice parks for walking and some shade immediately behind it.

On a weekday, around 8:30 am, I was walking on the Rambla Presidente Wilson to Barrio Sur. On my left, Playa Ramirez stood out with a large group of young soccer players exercising. They were strenghtening their core, legs and feet. They ran, leaped in the sand with socks or bare feet ( clever ) Vhuntermassage LLC

Playa Ramírez in Montevideo, Uruguay, is a relaxed and convenient urban beach with a calm atmosphere. It's a great spot to unwind, soak up the sun, and enjoy scenic views of the Rio de la Plata. Perfect for a leisurely stroll or a peaceful day by the water.
H K — Google review
Ramirez Beach is a lovely spot for a stroll and to enjoy some fresh air, especially during the quieter winter months. Its proximity to the city makes it convenient for a quick escape. However, if you’re looking for a classic beach day with pristine sand and swimming, this might not be the ideal choice. Being close to the port and within the urban area, the water and shoreline aren’t always the best for swimming. Overall, it’s more of a scenic walking area rather than a traditional beach destination.
Maria K — Google review
This is a small beach with a local feel, unlike the beach at Pocitos which looks and feels like something off of a postcard. One of my favorite things about it is that it's next to Parque Rodó which I absolutely adore. My favorite things are the statues, The Fountains, the castle, and the outdoor photography exhibit. There are many other things to do near this location. There is an amusement park for children, a roller skating and skateboarding rink for everyone (with exercise equipment nearby), and there is the Rambla for walking, jogging, cycling, and people watching. There are volleyball games in the summer and are public bathrooms year round at the McDonald's across the street. My favorite thing to do there is to meditate with the sight sound and feel of the ocean.

Nature & Parks
The Villa Biarritz Park is a popular location for people to visit on Saturdays because it has a variety of stalls and music shows, making it a bright and sunny day. The park is also located in the Punta Carretas neighborhood, which is usually clean and enjoyable. However, due to the many stalls present at the park on saturdays, it can be difficult to find games for children.
The Parque de Villa Biarritz is the primary civic space for the Villa Biarritz neighborhood and is also readily accessible on foot from the contiguous areas of Pocitos and Punta Carretas. The park is enclosed primarily by apartment buildings (some with small ground floor businesses). On Tuesdays and Saturdays from about 9am-2pm the Féria de Villa Biarritz is open for business in the park: Tuesdays primarily for the farmer’s market and Saturdays the full Féria (including clothing, mates, house plants, gift items, food truck, etc.) The park is also home to the Bigua, a major recreational venue for children and families, with recently expanded facilities (requires membership). A fence-enclosed playground for toddlers/young children is open to the public and very much used year round. The Park has a wonderful variety of trees and birds — absent are pigeons (thanks to the city’s introduction of a few hawks who keep them away). This is a wonderful community asset that is both open and safe. Other than the Féria on Saturday, the Park does not get much tourist traffic.

Usually a home for the Saturday ferias, this park is located near Pocitos. Had been here for the Montevideo Pop Up Fair. There were so many stalls and music shows, put up for the people to enjoy a bright and sunny day. We tried the beer at the OPB. The shawarma from Solger shawarma was the best.

The park is locatec at Punta Carretas neighborhood.. Yesterday was clean and enjoyable. On saturdays is common a fair over it. Doesn't have games for childs, it is all green, and a place for talk with friends, and rest after a running. Grass is cut often.

Is a very nice place to spend an afternoon. Surrounded by an old historic firefighters building and a great pastry place called Carrera. Just be aware that is you don't like people smoking weed, then maybe you'll stumble upon some strong mariguana smells. But that does not mean is a ugly or dangerous place. Actually there are always police people around, remember that is legal to smoke weed in Montevideo

Small, yet beautiful, and gripping. A must is the statues of Einstein and Vaz Ferreira sitting on a bench, the statue of the fireman, and that of our hero Juan Antonio Lavalleja on his horse. There is a small Shop, called plaza bonita, full of handicrafts, mates, wool clothes.
Sabrina V — Google review
Nice, tiny park in which the best feature is the fire station and companion statue. The park itself is usually gross with tons of unpicked up dog poo and trash. But that isn't the fire station's fault.

Playa La Mulata is a small beach located in Punta Gorda, east of Montevideo. It is known for its unspoiled and rugged charm, attracting nature lovers and adventure seekers. The golden sands are perfect for sunbathing and beachcombing. The beach offers stunning views of the sunrise and is surrounded by rocks, making it not advisable for jumping into the water. Visitors should enter the water with caution due to the rocky surroundings.

(Translated by Google) It is a small beach, but beautiful. The sunrise is incredible. It is surrounded by rocks on the sides and it is not advisable to jump in for that reason. But enter the water with caution. When I went, a group from the mayor's office came by to clean it because there was a lot of algae and things that the tide brought to the shore and they left it spotless. It has chemical baths and restaurants that fish at dawn and in the morning to prepare dishes with fresh fish.

(Translated by Google) It's a beautiful, quiet, and small beach on the Montevideo coast. It has a ramp where you can unload watercraft. They also have lifeguards on duty. There's also a legend that says that every afternoon a mulatto couple would go to the beach, and he would dive into the sea and reappear with gold coins from an old sunken galleon, which he would give to her. Until one day, the mulatto submerged and never reappeared. So the mulatto woman would go to the beach every afternoon, hoping her lover would reappear. Hence its name, La MULATA beach.

Acceptable for having some mates under the protection of the bushes. Play shuffleboard or paddle tennis. For fishing, despite having some recommendations and to my total disappointment, I found nets thrown 70 meters away. That covered the entire width of the beach and more. Therefore, zero chance.
