Lookouts
Located in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Fortaleza dos Reis Magos is a 16th-century military fortification shaped like a star and perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. This historical landmark played a crucial role in defending the city and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area. The fort's limestone embankment, cannons, and chapel add to its historical significance. It has been instrumental in repelling invaders and stands as an important symbol of Natal's history.
Bring water and sunscreen! It is a little walk and no shade at all. Tickets to get in are 5 reais full price or 2.5 reais for half price (students, seniors, etc.). You can buy these at the door with debit or Pix. The fort is beautiful and has a fantastic view of Natal and the bridge. It has a little bit of history inside of it but not much about the fort, so I would recommend reading on your own or maybe come with a tour guide if you’re really interested in history. A note for the foundation/museum of the fort: Please get the historical information rewritten. It is outdated and written very poorly and in a racist way against indigenous peoples and the colonial history of Natal.
Miguel S — Google review
the view is very nice. you get nice views of the city and the ocean. on the other hand the fortress is not well preserved and does not have enough exhibits to see. also the use of english in the signs is mainly in the three signs in the entrance
Alexis P — Google review
Fortaleza dos Reis Magos is a fortress located a bit outside the city of Natal. From the fortress, you have a great view over the ocean and the city. The entry fee was 3 Brazilian reals when we visited. It is worth a visit if you are interested in history or just enjoy a great view.
Corsin — Google review
People, how can you complain about a site that is free to enter!? You don’t need a guide, you can just enjoy the site and walk around, take nice photos. Be happy that they make this place available to the public for no cost! I enjoyed it!
Alexandra K — Google review
Note! My photos are older, before renovation took place! Great historical place, currently renovated which has given the whole building a new life! A great place to take photos, with a wonderful beach next to it and natural pools. A wonderful piece of history! Daytime sightseeing is recommended as the site is away from everything. Cultural heritage site!

Genipabu Beach is a must-visit destination in Natal, offering a unique experience with its sandy dunes and freshwater lagoons. Visitors can explore the area by hiring buggies to ride through the picturesque landscape. The beach provides an ideal setting for swimming and indulging in various water sports and games. Additionally, there are plenty of restaurants to enjoy local cuisine.
Amazing beach. Clear waters. Calm water. Hard to park in here. Be prepared to deal with an infinity of street salesman, and people chasing you to find parking and bring you to their beach club. It is difficult to avoid them. Sometimes you will need to be stern for them to leave you alone. The beach clubs are great to relax at the beach. They have a little bit of everything. Drink lots of coconut water. In the sand, there are many people people selling many things and lots of them are great options.
Chris S — Google review
No visit to Natal is complete without a visit to the Dunes of Genipabu. Beach good for swimming with many nice restaurants. Highlight of a visit to Genipabu is driving with a buggy driver through the dunes of Genipabu.& a visit to its lake if not in dry season is to be recommended. Ferry to Jacumá is especially fun as your car or buggy is put onto a boat rowed across the narrow river with the route providing a coastal route to Pitangui and Muriú.

Nice beach to visit and surf. Close to the dunes, it offers a beautiful visual. It can get pretty dirty, though, cause people often drop waste on the sand... There could be more trash bins to try to encourage people to discard their waste properly (although this is no excuse).
Paula R — Google review
Fantastic incredibly beautiful seaside village about half an hour north by road from Natal's bridges across Rio Potengi from Natal, Rn. Beautiful safe to bathe beach lined with lots of beachside restaurants good for fish or meat dishes. Dunes above beach are awesome and maybe climbed by athletic & sure footed or tours led by buggy drivers available from US $60 through dunes from Genipabu village or from around US $ 100 from Natal. Tours may continue on to Pitangui & Cape Riangha eastern most point of Rio Grande do Norte state. In rainy season April to early August ;Genipabu near & after sunset is especially famous for it's mosquitos which seem to be a particular curse for fair skinned visitors. Hotel Genipabu high in hills with its own swimming pool tends to avoid the problems with mosquitos. Visitors should also try by car or buggy try the raft ferry at nearby Gracendu & see the seaside mansions of Natal's political elite. At weekends & in January & February village maybe at times crowded but midweek visits are usually quieter & much more rewarding.

Nice and well-maintained, but sadly very narrow city beach. You can admire the ocean, and if you really want to, you can swim. The area is full of souvenir shops and restaurants.

Ponta Negra Beach is a renowned destination in Natal, attracting tourists with its beautiful beach, iconic Morro do Careca dune, and abundance of hotels, restaurants, and activities. This picturesque spot offers clear waters for swimming and various water sports to enjoy. It's a must-visit location for those seeking relaxation and fun by the sea. Additionally, nearby Pitangui Beach and Punau Beach offer stunning landscapes along the North Coast for visitors to explore.
Natal, a splendid sea city located in the warmest part of Brazil, the northeast, with astonishing, sandy white beaches, including its most popular one, the PRAIA PONTA NEGRA, easily recognizable by its landmark MORRO DO CARECA (Brazilian for "the bald hill"). The water temperature in this part of the land, is the best thing that your body and soul can experience, being perfectly warm all year around. Outside the water you've got a tropical-wet climate with the ocean breeze mitigating the, otherwise, oppressive heat. Probably my favorite kind of climate. Praia Ponta Negra is a very pretty urban-beach, with its beautiful promenade, palm trees and delicious bars and restaurants. All you have to do is grab a coconut from a local seller, put your canga (Brazilian for beach towel) on the white, soft sand, call a local masseur (scattered all over the beach) that will give you the best relaxing moments and then go for a swim in the warm ocean. To end a perfect day, go to a restaurant by the beach, and eat one of the best sea food in Brazil. I definitely recommend trying the "caranguejo", which means crab. If you happen to be in Natal, Ponta Negra is a fantastic must!
Jack B — Google review
I have never had so much pain as a day at this beach. As it is so steep, the big Atlantic rollers crash right on the beach front. There are sharp rocks right there under your feet. If you look, you will not see many people in the water, and not for very long. It looks beautiful, but I would never go in that water again
Stephen W — Google review

Virginia C — Google review

Gabriel D — Google review
I lived in the Ponta Negra area for a year and all I can say about this place is that it's amazing and I will always miss it. The beach can be a bit croweded sometimes but it's totally worth the visit.
Eduardo ( — Google review
Nice beach, however, vendors can be irritating.
Luis M — Google review
Loved this beach. Overall it was relatively clean but varies depending on where you are on the beach. Areas that less people frequent are cleaner. The nice part about this beach is that it is so long, nice sand, smooth walk into the water with a sandy bottom, nice waves, and no shortage of food and drink options.
E — Google review
This beach is nice, right in Natal. 45 Minutes south is Pipa, where the beaches tend to be cleaner. However, there are some nice hotels, bed and breakfasts and resorts in Natal that look quite nice. This beach was very fun and busy, excellent beach side service, most beach side vendors will go out of their way to bring whatever you want, for a price of course, though reasonable in the end.

It's a favorite among nature enthusiasts and families for its well-maintained facilities including playgrounds, walking paths, picnic areas, and even guided trails through the Dunas Reserve. excellent park to walk around and enjoy the nature. interesting small stuffed animal museum that displays some (but not all) local flaura and fauna as well as some very interesting live specimens. First attraction in natal that has adequate english signage.

Organized, clean, well equipped: this is a great option for those who wish to spend quality time with family and friends. There are many playgrounds for the kids, different pathways for running/walking. You can invite your friends and have a picnic. There are bathrooms and drinking fountains. If you schedule previously a guide will take you through trails in the Dunas Reserve.
Marília S — Google review
Hiking trails are only open on certain days and you must prebook, which was not clear. We also were told to turn back on another walking trail by a security guard. Overall very disappointing experience (although I'm sure its lovely if you prebook). Finally, after realising that we could not do any of the hikes, we discovered that there is no beer at the cafe - that was the nail in the coffin and this place gets a poor score from me.

Great place to visit, great view and a small exposition. It's free.
Erick B — Google review
Government should do some improvements to make this Park a really good place where Natal populaton can go and do sports and spend a great time there. I saw only a walkway, when they could install gym facilities there.

Museum Cascudo / UFRN, established in 1973, is a captivating museum showcasing anthropology and natural history. The museum features both permanent and rotating exhibits, including soldiers' quarters, a well, a chapel, and a dungeon with a torture chamber. Visitors can also explore the museum dedicated to the Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama. The breathtaking view of Natal and its sand dunes adds to the allure of this place.
Really cool museum with free entrance. In January'18 there was 2 exhibition rooms with biology themes( evolution of birds, compared anatomy of mammals), 1 presenting the history of sugar production in the State and 1 photographic exhibition of a prison. The only cons are that there's no English(or any other language but portuguese) captions and the lack of interaction.

Cool little museum with fossils and art. There's a sample excavation site you can walk down to and a cavern with live small bats.

Very good
Ivanildo G — Google review
Good open space that has security, but had not been maintained well. My husband said they used to have animals and bike races.
Carissa D — Google review
Park maintenance is definitely behind. Waterfront had bad smell and the park back side had piles tree cuttings and park trash. We also notice sewerage smell.
Pedro P — Google review
That's a nice place to play with your kids.
