The Rio Grande do Sul Museum of Art is a must-visit attraction in the state, showcasing the works of regional artists. Housed in a neoclassical building, it stands out amidst modern architecture. The museum has been a prominent venue for local artists since its establishment in 1954 and relocation to its current location in the late 1970s. Visitors can also enjoy amenities such as a cafe, book store, and gift shop on-site.
Outside this Art Museum is an ongoing event with expositions about indigenous culture going on this am.

A very big place. I am sure there are times where it merits more than the three stars i am giving it. But unfortunately the art that was displayed during our visit was underwhelming and disappointing. It fid seem like the place that would hold different exhibitions and always change what it holds as seasons pass, so i can't judge it more harshly.
Ricardo K — Google review
When I went it was filled almost completely with modern art, which is not my cup of tea. Building is beautiful though.
Garrett F — Google review
Very lovely place, indeed. As for only regional level very progressive. A bit even reminded me Tiger Art at Buenos Aires, but more like Tate Modern in London.

You will love it if you're into modern art!

Gorgeous building in a green calm square of this surprisingly beautiful city. Building is full of great architectural details and european influences of XIX C and a fabulous modern eclectic yet fascinating exhibits. A fairly relax atmosphere.

This museum is a must-see for anyone visiting Porto Alegre, with a wealth of collections covering history, art, and culture from across Rio Grande do Sul. It's also free to visit, making it an ideal spot for a weekend getaway.
Loved this museum. The place is full of interesting stuff like a very old car, artifacts and even canons. I also really enjoyed the outdoor displays. Free entrance, so go visit if in the area.
Danny Q — Google review
One of the most enchanting and unassuming museums I have ever been to charting the history of Porto Alegre, and in particular Rio Grande do Sul in its finest details regarding wars and settlement. Not to be missed. Above all a free entry Museum one will be more than willing to pay for.Perhaps the most fascinating exhibits of early amerindian art i.e. masks and pottery I have ever seen. A real Jewel in a gorgeous city.
Salvador M — Google review
The museum itself is not particularly impressive, but the building is really nice and somewhat unique among all the surrounding high-rises. There is little to connect or contextualise the various objects, but in a way there are also some signs of care in the way the whole thing is kept.
Candida L — Google review
Bare exhibits. Doesn't cover any real history in the exhibits and has very little on the Ragamuffin War. It's not what I expected based on the website. Disappointing.
UnTraiNd — Google review
Super cool free to enter museum. There is a lot of information about the regions recent and pre historic past. Free to visit, very nice for a weekend visit.
Matias S — Google review
The four stars are for the building. There are some cool historical objects here, especially from the Guarani in the Seven Missions area. As a history nut I was very excited to visit this museum but, unfortunately, it is half-abandoned, like many others in Brazil. Next to the cathedral and Marechal Deodoro Park. Free entry, so definitely worth the visit.
Joffre S — Google review
A lot of history badly presented. Some rooms are almost bare and the more interesting exhibits are in darkness. In need of someone with vision to bring it to life. Better use of space, decent lighting, a café and a shop would help.
Derek S — Google review
(Translated by Google) It displays objects that are significant to the history of RIO GRANDE DO SUL that could easily be more prominent. Perhaps in better-arranged niches, with objective information using totems, videos accompanied by headphones, focused lighting to enhance the collection... I don't know! In any case, it has attentive and friendly staff, clean facilities, and a strategically located address, close to other points of tourist interest in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana (CCMQ) is a unique and spacious building that offers a diverse range of artistic events, along with a charming coffee house and gift shop. Situated in the historic downtown area, it is surrounded by significant landmarks such as the Public Market, Town Hall, Memorial do Rio Grande do Sul, and MARGS. The Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana was once the residence of poet Mario Quintana and has been transformed into a cultural center.
In the center of Porto Alegre, this is a huge building meant to be a space for several cultural activities. Anyway, if you want you can hang out there, have something to drink or eat. It is worth a visit.

The Botanical Gardens of Porto Alegre cover a vast 39-hectare area and are renowned for their collection of native trees and flowers from Rio Grande do Sul. The garden offers visitors a tranquil escape with its scenic ponds, themed gardens, and walking trails. It is home to a diverse range of plant species including orchids, bromeliads, and cacti.
The place is beautiful, indeed. However, some renovation is extremely necessary concerning the toilets and the cafeteria. We haven't visited the museum as it was closed, although we could notice its shabby entrance. A place like that should definitely get more attention from the Government, which controls it. Apart from that it is quiet, peaceful, safe, and colorful.
Marília S — Google review

Tom W — Google review
Nice place to go for a short walk and some pictures, but not that great. The lake toward the back of the park is nice. All of the interesting places are restricted access only. The tickets are cheap to get in though, maybe worth visiting once.
Kaila Y — Google review
I used to come here with my family ( mom and dad) when I was younger, it was so nice and peaceful, I loved seeing the fish ponds, the birds all over the place. It’s a beautiful place and great for hiking, but also is great for just relaxing, getting a blanket and sitting on the grass and reading a good book, or even for having a picnic with friends and/or family, the kids will enjoy exploring the whole area. I loved this place since I was 3 years old and now, I’m looking forward to bringing my own kids there soon. 💚💚💚💚💚

So much potential but looks 90% abandoned. Can see it probably peaked 20-30 years ago. Couple interesting spots but youll have to find them on your own since they arent on the suggested route. Cactus and orchid houses are abandoned. Only one active native beehive… Needs a bit of money and some tlc (amor).

(Translated by Google) I was there for a show on Saturday night. I sat with my father, a man in his late 80s, in the rain because the roof wasn't big enough for everyone there. So why not just open the doors so people couldn't get out of the rain? Another thing: the air conditioning was off. It was freezing cold inside, and people were visibly uncomfortable because, in fact, there weren't even enough seats for everyone. Paying 60 reais for two tickets in a place with no facilities at all! (Original) Estive sábado à noite p um espetáculo. The Memorial do Rio Grande do Sul is a cultural center located in Porto Alegre, housed in a historic property at Alfandega Square. The building is listed as historical heritage and features local history exhibits, traditional costumes, and art. Visitors appreciate the elegant and spacious venue with an elevator for easy access to different floors of exhibitions. While the museum offers a good insight into the history of Rio Grande do Sul state, it's important to note that all information is available only in Portuguese.

A very good museum about the history of Rio Grande do Sul state, however everything is only in Portuguese. My Spanish is very good and I found the Portuguese explanations reasonably easy to follow. But if you don't know either language you will be lost. There were also two temporary photography exhibitions when we visited.

(Translated by Google) The Porto Alegre Joaquim José Felizardo Museum was created in 1979 with the purpose of gathering historical and cultural material from the city. It is located in an old colonial mansion at 582 João Alfredo Street, in the Cidade Baixa neighborhood of Porto Alegre. It preserves a huge collection composed of more than 1,300 objects from the 19th and 20th centuries, which includes accessories, decorative objects, musical instruments, furniture and clothing and around 200,000 items related to different groups that occupied the region since the pre-colonial period, such as collections of ceramic, lithic, bone and other objects, from areas of indigenous occupation prior to the arrival of the colonizers, in addition to collections from sites occupied between the 18th and 20th centuries, with pieces produced in china, glass, metal, leather, stone, bones, ceramics, human and food skeletal remains. It also houses around 9,000 images of Porto Alegre from the 19th and 20th centuries, with the most different aspects of the city over time and a collection of over 400 postcards from the first decades of the 20th century. In addition to long-term and short-term exhibitions, the Museum offers courses, lectures, workshops and hosts other cultural activities. The place needs a little more care and, given its historical importance, it should be better preserved. I also found the service somewhat disinterested and impersonal. (Translated by Google) The Ruben Berta Art Gallery is housed in a historic mansion located at 973 Duque de Caxias Street in the Historic Center of Porto Alegre. It was built in 1893 and modified in 1916 and was listed in 2012 by the Municipal Department of Culture of Porto Alegre. Rubem Berta was a pioneer in commercial aviation in Brazil, director of VARIG and volunteer collaborator of Chateaubriand in transporting collections to their destinations. The origin of the Art Gallery dates back to the 1960s, the result of a personal project by communications magnate Assis Chateaubriand to create regional museums in various parts of the country. To build this rich collection, Chateaubriand had the collaboration of art critic, dealer and mentor of the São Paulo Museum of Art, Pietro Maria Bardi. The collection houses 125 works that present a heterogeneous composition. The work Rejalma, from 1673 by the Dutch artist Jeronimus Van Diest, is the oldest painting in the public collection in Rio Grande do Sul. The collection also includes renowned names in national painting such as Almeida Júnior, Pedro Américo, João Batista da Costa, Eliseu Visconti and other masters of national importance, with several quality foreign creations, especially examples of British Pop art, by Alan Davie, Allen Jones, Neville King, Peter Behan and Graham Sutherland, among others. So it can be said that the collection offers the opportunity to glimpse a historical panorama and styles of Brazilian art, particularly in the 20th century.

The Science and Technology Museum is a captivating learning center that offers interactive science experiments and permanent fossil displays. Located within the Usina do Gasometro Cultural Center in Porto Alegre, it occupies the historic space of an old thermoelectric plant. The museum spans three floors and features an array of exhibits, including works, sculptures, and historical insights into renowned figures in Brazil. Visitors can explore various aspects of science through fun interactive experiments, making it an ideal destination for both children and adults alike.
one of the most amazing museums I have ever been in Brazil. It's guaranteed fun. You can go either alone or take the children with you. Lots of science toys, games and plays. I do recommend it.
Rodrigo G — Google review
Firstly, you pay $30 for adults and $15 for students. Also, $20 for parking if you stay around 3 to 4 hours (borderline ridiculous!). Secondly, it's called a museum of sciences and technology, but the forgot to add "20 years ago" to the name. I literally have been to the museum 20 years ago and it is 90% the same... Very disappointing for an institution that is incredibly rich. It's administration abandoned the place, which has 20% of the exposition with an "out of order sign" and outdated knowledge, for example, the tongue flavour region, which has been debunked for ages. Nothing is new or amazingly interesting. Most interactive stands are good old physics or mechanics based. If you're under 10, it's awesome because you can touch stuff. If you're an adult, it's sadly outdated. I still cannot believe that they haven't changed most of it from 20 years ago. That's irresponsible. They should keep up with new technology and science knowledge that is always being updated. So, yes, take the kids, but then write an email to the administration asking for them to stop sipping martinis, get their act together and fix that museum. It's a great place and this town deserves to have it. In summary, I was disappointed because I grew up going to that museum and could see the decline of it. You may not think it's that bad, besides the parking, which is not fair. I recommend going once... and that's it.

It is a fantastic place to visit, it is a large museum with works and sculptures out of the ordinary, with a lot of history, I liked the place where they explain the lives of many renowned people in Brazil, each section very interesting, science, technological advances and the interactive part, in a more playful way, is very entertaining. I was surprised with this place. A great opportunity and environment to teach them different aspects of science with fun interactive experiments. The sections of the human body, energy and sound are very complete arouses the interest of children, young people and adults. The museum is spectacular, with many areas of knowledge and interaction. Everything is very well exposed, you can see the interest of encouraging young students in science, and the challenge lies in understanding what has been exposed, the objective is very well achieved, and there are many well-instructed and well-disposed personnel to teach. Place opens your mind, you lose track of time because everything that is there is too interesting. You can spend a pleasant afternoon and learning how many of the exact sciences work, it is charming and very funny, it is very worth it, in fact it is highly recommended it is an unavoidable visit

Fun museum, especially with children. There are multiple interactive expositions, with written explanations. There are also some guides to help you out. Go with shows if you want to go to the gyroscope (?) at the ground floor. Sometimes it can be crowded due to school tours, so in the weekend is usually a better time to visit. You can leave and comeback in the same day, so I recommended lunching at some restaurant at pucrs, like the one in the building 40.

(Translated by Google) The Alto da Bronze Castle is located at 432 General Vasco Alves Street in the Historic Center of Porto Alegre and stands out for its beautiful architecture with medieval features, built entirely with stone walls and Gothic-style windows. According to the story, the castle was built in the late 1940s by order of politician Carlos Eurico Gomes to live with his lover, an 18-year-old girl, and her son. He was married and when his betrayal was discovered, he moved to the castle where he lived for four years with the young woman. According to the urban legend, because he was almost 20 years older, he was extremely jealous and so he locked the young woman on the third floor, unable to go down, approach the windows or leave the house, until she managed to run away from home and disappear. The place was then abandoned and in the 1950s, a nightclub was set up there and currently, it houses a cultural space that includes photography and visual arts studios and theater plays, as well as art exhibitions, literary gatherings and musical and scenic performances.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful memorial. An innovative building. And one that celebrates the life and struggle of a great icon of the Brazilian left. (Original) Um belo memorial.

(Translated by Google) Visiting and learning about the memorial of Luiz Carlos Prestes, the great "Knight of Hope" who led a march, challenging the elites of the time, in favor of the less fortunate, was a great milestone in our history. A great leader, who dedicated his life, of almost 100 years, to helping build a more just society. Congratulations to those who keep his memory alive.

(Translated by Google) I can't understand if some people comment because they were paid to do so, or if it's because they're just plain stupid... having a monument built by Niemeyer, in honor of an important figure in Brazilian history, is not for every city. As for the "murderer", and other shallow and baseless nonsense, it's certainly an opinionated speech, shallow to the extreme and pointless - the Farroupilha "heroes" were murderers, slave owners, among other negative nicknames, but certainly the same ignorant people who are reproducing this stupid speech about "murderers", "communists", etc., can't think about it. Thinking from time to time is good, I know it's hard, but it's cool... just like reading books from time to time, and not Facebook nonsense...

(Translated by Google) It's unfortunate how misinformed people are, firstly, regarding the memory of Oscar Niemeyer, who conceived this memorial to Prestes. Secondly, they don't know the history of Porto Alegre, whose memorials are scattered throughout the country, in Palmas, Tocantins, and other cities in Brazil. It's funny how none of these people are outraged by the privileges of the powerful, by hunger, corruption, poverty, and insecurity. Much less... Menos, bem menos...
