Hill station
Hiking area
Tiffin Top, formerly known as Dorothy's Seat, is a picturesque mountaintop spot near Nainital offering stunning views of the Himalayan ranges and the surrounding countryside. It is a popular destination for picnics and offers forested walkways leading to Dorothy's seat where visitors can enjoy their lunch amidst beautiful scenery. The area also provides opportunities for horseback rides and serves as an ideal location for aspiring photographers to capture the picturesque views.
If you're in Nainital and craving more than just lakes and boating, Tiffin Top (also known as Dorothy’s Seat) is a perfect escape into the hills. It’s not overcrowded, not too commercial, and offers a panoramic view of Nainital town, the lake, and the Himalayan range—especially on a clear day. This spot truly feels like a hidden picnic patch carved out by nature, meant for those who enjoy peace, panoramic views, and a little bit of effort. 🧭 How to Reach / Transportation: Option 1: Trekking (most popular & rewarding) !Ticket price is 50 rupees per head by walking !Ticket price with horse ride 100rupees per head Starting Point: Ayarpatta / Sherwood College area Distance: ~4 km uphill from Mallital (one way) Time Required: 40 to 90 minutes depending on fitness level and weather Trail is shaded with trees, birds chirping, and occasional monkeys (don’t carry loose food in hand). Option 2: Horse Ride Available near Cave Garden or Mallital Cost: ₹600–₹800 (round trip, may vary seasonally) Great option for those who can’t hike but still want the view Option 3: By Car (partial) You can drive or take a local taxi up to a point, then walk ~15–20 minutes Roads are narrow and parking is limited 🌄 What You’ll See at the Top: A beautiful stone bench (Dorothy’s Seat) made in memory of an English artist who died in a plane crash. A large open area surrounded by trees—ideal for a tiffin picnic, reading, or simply sitting in silence. Breathtaking views of Nainital Lake, forest ridges, and the Kumaon hills. On clear mornings, you may even glimpse snow-capped peaks in the distance. ⚠️ Trekking Precautions: 🥾 Wear proper shoes – trail can be slippery during monsoon. 💧 Carry water – there are no vendors once you’re on the trail. 🧥 Bring a light jacket or shawl – weather turns cool quickly, even in summer. 🕒 Start early (before 10 AM) – for best views and to avoid afternoon cloud cover or fog. 🐒 Avoid feeding monkeys – they can get aggressive. 🍃 Why Tiffin Top is Special: Unlike commercial viewpoints, this one offers quiet beauty, not chaos. It’s ideal for travelers who: Want a calm place to sit and enjoy nature Love photography, sketching, or meditation Prefer nature over noise Tiffin Top is not for the lazy tourist. It’s for the nature lover. You won’t find stalls, music, or crowd selfies here. You’ll find wind through the trees, raw mountain air, a story in every stone, and a view that makes the climb worth it. Go for the hike. Stay for the peace. Return with calm.

Great Trail. You can reach the top either by horses or by foot. Would highly recommend by foot. I did after heavy rainfall and didn't faced any issue. Well maintained and there is shops on top too. Very genuine and nice people. Slopes somewhere are slippery. Wouldn't recommend for people with knee issue or senior citizen
Ariyan S — Google review
Frankly the Tiffin Top is one of the most beautiful treks I've ever had. I didn't give a five star rating only because there are no directions anywhere on the way and I had serious doubt which way to take at least in one juction where I saw some people taking the wrong route. Apart from that, the king cobble stone path to the top is good enough to walk and it is not too steep. I went in the rainy season in August, there were very few visitors and so the ticket counter was closed. Otherwise you need to buy a ticket for ₹ 50. Several reviews mentioned monkeys but I saw none on the way, probably also because it was not tourist season. Thank God it did not rain. Otherwise the trek would have been difficult. The view from the top is really beautiful but you need to be careful up there as there are no barricades. I think they are building some. There are two restaurants in the top where you can buy water to tea to soft drinks and even full meals. Of course it's expensive. I really enjoyed the trek all the way from the lake.
Sajeev J — Google review
Good tracking path with panoramic view on the top. We had a chance to visit Tiffin top this last month and it turned out nice tracking for us . Let me start from the beginning. We were just roaming around and checking the beautiful villas. Most of them were magnificent in their architecture. After few minutes we come across a blue sign board with Tiffin Top written on it. The weather was not good for track ans we were all no prepared for any tracking hence we decided to pass and walk further. After walking for an half an hour we reached to second point which was bit rough and less construct than the previous one. Btw, There are two tracks to reach on the top and that was the second one. We were skeptical but thought to check hence we embarked to move on the track. If you are fond of Snail the second track would be better for you. While tracking we witnessed beautiful curve and breathtaking mansion view on the way to tiffin top. Those villa were like we have all seen in movies, maybe some of us have seem in horror one. Anyway, the place is nice and track is too. Although the tiffin top is damaged now and has less space to seat relax
Rahul K — Google review
Absolutely loved the experience at Tiffin Top! It’s a peaceful and scenic viewpoint that gives a breathtaking panoramic view of Nainital and the surrounding hills. The walk up is a bit steep but totally worth it — you can go by foot, horseback. 50 rupees entry fees per person. The best time to visit is early morning or just before sunset when the skies are clear. The place is not as crowded as Naini Lake or Snow View, so you really get to enjoy nature in silence. There are also some snack stalls nearby if you need a quick bite. If you’re a nature lover or into photography, this is a must-visit spot in Nainital. Don’t forget your camera!
Wasim S — Google review
The sunrise point is exceptionally beautiful, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. The trek is approximately 1.5 kilometers, with a somewhat steep incline, but the experience is certainly worthwhile.
Ansh M — Google review
A truly great trail with beautiful surroundings and a peaceful atmosphere. You can reach the top either on foot or by horse, but I would highly recommend walking — it’s an amazing experience! I did this trek after heavy rainfall and didn’t face any issues. The path is well maintained, and there are a few small shops at the top for refreshments. The local people are very kind, genuine, and helpful, which makes the journey even better. Some slopes can be slippery, so do be careful — it’s not ideal for people with knee problems or senior citizens. Overall, a wonderful trail for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. 🌿

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled near Nainital Lake, the Shree Maa Naina Devi Temple is a significant Hindu pilgrimage site in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Naina Devi and is known for its colorful shrines and associated mythological stories. Visitors can also enjoy a cable car ride to Snow View observation point for stunning vistas of the town and surrounding mountains, including Nanda Devi, the highest peak in Uttarakhand.
🛕 Naina Devi Temple, Nainital – A Divine Presence Beyond Words I recently visited Naina Devi Temple in Nainital, and I can confidently say—this is not just a temple, it's a powerful spiritual experience that stays with you long after you leave. Right from the moment you step through the entrance arch, there’s something in the air—peace, divinity, and a sense of stillness that instantly calms your heart. The temple is located at the northern end of Naini Lake, and as you climb the short steps, you’re greeted by bells, incense, and the soft chants that echo around the space. Honestly, I didn’t take any photos or videos—not because I forgot, but because I couldn’t. Sometimes, there are places where your phone automatically takes a backseat. I felt so connected and in the moment that capturing it digitally didn’t even cross my mind. You have to go and feel it yourself. Important Note (Real Info Alert!) Don't trust Google Maps for the timings—it’s outdated or just plain wrong. 🕔 The temple opens at 5:00 AM with the morning aarti 🕖 Closes by 7:00 PM sharp — after which the main gates are closed, and no one is allowed in. I saw many people disappointed who came relying on online timings. So, plan accordingly. Inside, the temple is simple yet soul-touching. The main deity, Goddess Naina Devi, is beautifully adorned, and the energy inside the sanctum is intense. There’s also a Hanumanji and Ganeshji murti beside, with hundreds of bells tied by devotees. Offerings like prasad and flowers are available just outside, and the pandas (priests) are polite—not pushy. Other Info: The view of the Naini Lake from the temple compound is stunning—especially around sunset. It gets a bit crowded on weekends and during aarti hours. Shoes must be left outside (there's a counter). Prasad is simple, fresh, and blessed (I took some home for family). Final Words: If you’re in Nainital, don’t miss this temple. Not for the photos, not for sightseeing, but for the calm, the blessings, and the rare feeling of stillness it gives you. Naina Devi isn’t just a place, she’s a presence.

Visited Naina Devi Temple this morning, and it was such a beautiful and peaceful experience! There was hardly any crowd, so the darshan was smooth and unhurried. The temple’s serene atmosphere instantly fills you with calm — you can truly feel the spiritual energy of this sacred place. 🌸✨ Located right by Naini Lake, it’s not just a temple but also a spot that captures the spiritual soul of Nainital. Do note that photography isn’t allowed inside, so please respect the sanctity of the place. 🙏 A must-visit for anyone coming to Nainital — whether for faith, peace, or simply to experience its divine aura. Highly recommended!

" माँ नैना देवी " .. one of the 51 Shaktipeeths in India, Naina Devi Temple, is located at the northern end of the famous Nainital Lake which is at an elevation of over 6800 ft sea level. Goddess Naini Devi, deity of this temple, represented by the two eyes of the Devi. History : The Naina Devi temple gets its name from Goddess Sati’s eyes (Nayan) which fell at this place when Lord Vishnu cuts her body into 51 different parts. #templesofindia #shaktipeeth #नैनादेवी #thatlazytraveller #thatsolotraveller #incredibleindia #devbhoomiuttrakhand

I want to express my heartfelt congratulation and best wishes on the occasion of 'Nanda Ashtami', the festival that celebrates the worship of Goddess Nanda-Sunanda, the leading deity of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. I always suggest visiting Nainital for the Nanda Devi Mela, which is something I always recommend. Being a part of the Nanda Devi Mela is something I am always grateful for.

Naina Devi Temple is a quiet and peaceful place with great mythological significance for Hindus. The temple management is very good, polite, and well-organized. We visited during the Nanda Devi festival, when the entire area was filled with vibrant energy and a lively fair (mela) was organized as part of the celebrations. During festivals, the temple timings are extended till 10 pm, allowing devotees more time for darshan. It is truly a must-visit place in Nainital, offering both spiritual serenity and cultural vibrance.

Naina Peak, also known as Cheena Peak or China Peak, is a prominent attraction in Nainital. Situated at an elevation of 2,590 meters, it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The peak is part of a valley bordered by Alma and Sker-ka-Danda to the north and Deopate to the west. The eastern boundary features a pass through which surplus waters from Naini Lake flow out, forming the principal source of the Baliya River.
We embarked on the breathtaking Trek to Naina Peak, which proved to be an unforgettable experience. For just ₹50, we purchased our tickets and began our 3-kilometer journey, which felt like 5 kilometers due to the winding path. The trail was mesmerizing, with stunning scenery at every turn. The 360-degree bird's-eye view of Naina Lake from the top, which made the trek truly worthwhile. At the summit, we relaxed with a warm cup of tea and Maggie at the sole shop, taking in the tranquility of the surroundings. A humble request to all fellow trekkers: please refrain from littering, as it's essential to preserve the pristine beauty of the mountains. Let's work together to keep our environment clean. This track comes highly recommended for anyone visiting Nainital, offering an unforgettable experience amidst nature's splendor. ♥️ congratulations you are at 8622 feet above the sea level .

A must-visit for nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts! Naina Peak is the highest point in Nainital and offers a stunning panoramic view of the town, Naini Lake, and the snow-capped Himalayan ranges. The trek through dense pine and rhododendron forests is peaceful and scenic. It’s about 6 km one way — moderately challenging but worth every step. You can also go by pony if you’re not up for the full hike. No shops at the top, so carry water and snacks. The peak is clean and calm, perfect for those who want a quiet escape with incredible views. Best time to visit: early morning or just before sunset on a clear day. Highly recommended!

Nainital, the charming lake town of Uttarakhand, is surrounded by hills and natural beauty, but the most enchanting spot here is Naina Peak, also known as China Peak. Standing tall at around 2,615 meters, it is the highest point of Nainital and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the valley, the sparkling Naini Lake, and the majestic Himalayan ranges.
Rahul — Google review
The trek spans 3 kilometers, but the breathtaking view from the summit makes it worthwhile. The journey is enjoyable, so please remember to bring water and snacks.

Great hike! It’s around 3 km and definitely steep in parts, so be ready for a bit of a workout. But the effort is totally worth it — the view from the top is absolutely breathtaking. You can see for miles, and it’s the perfect spot for photos or just to sit and take it all in. Bring water and good shoes.

Snow View Point is a popular tourist spot in Nainital, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Nanda Kot. It also provides stunning vistas of Nainital Lake and the town. Accessible by road or through an aerial ropeway from Mallital, this observation area features a pair of large binoculars for visitors to enjoy the perfect view.
Snow view is one of the tourist spots from where the majestic range of Himalayas and several peaks can be viewed on a clear sunny day. It's located at an altitude of 2270m. It has many attractions like dinosaur park, zip line, giant wheel, local dress photoshoot, temple etc. Good trek for those loving to explore nature

Snow Point is a must-visit destination in Nainital, offering breathtaking views from the top. You can rent a scooty and ride up to the point, which takes around 10-15 minutes from Mall Road. Alternatively, you can take a 45-minute hike to the top. The trail is well-marked and enjoyable, with scenic views along the way. At the top, you'll find several eating options and shops to explore. We enjoyed a meal at one of the eateries while taking in the stunning views of the snow-covered mountains. Overall, Snow Point is a fantastic spot to visit, with its picturesque views, convenient amenities, and exciting hiking trail. It's an absolute must-visit when in Nainital! ♥️

Awesome view. Can spot Himalayas if weather is friendly. Lot of adventures activities are available. Don’t miss Dinosaur park if going via cable car
Pulkit V — Google review
While coming from ropeway we get 1 hour to explore here. People show himalayas mountains with binoculars here. Also visible from eyes. Lots of food option, and gift and clothing shops. Large swing with nainital lake view. A small go carting zone suitable for kids here. Bicycle ride on rope is also present. Fun activities like shooting, throwing games. Dinosour park is also here.
Rishabh G — Google review
We went there during the rainy season, and the mountains were fully covered with clouds. Because of this, we couldn’t see any views. It’s better not to go on rainy days, as you won’t be able to see anything clearly.
Mritunjay S — Google review
I was pretty excited about seeing my favourite mountain range - the Kumaon Himalayas - from the Snow View Point. Tackiness marks what can be a beautiful experience. Tacky, circus-like neighbourhood of the Ropeway Station that takes you to the Snow View. Signage is poor everywhere. Washrooms are smelly at both ends. The ropeway itself is a tired affair, from the ageing, dirty cablecar, the dull waiting area to the service. At the Snow Point View more tackiness awaits, restaurants and shops which appear to have been hastily put together. Poor signage means one must ask for both the Himalaya Viewpoint and the Nainital Lakeview Point. You're allowed a one-hour stay at the place, but its lack of charm ensures you wouldn't want to linger. Having said that, I did manage to get some pretty pictures of both the Himalayas and the Nainital Lake from the incredible vantage point of the Snow View. The people in-charge need to turn this into a worthy tourist destination

Nainital Eco Cave Park is a man-made attraction designed for adventure and fun, offering a series of artificial caves shaped like different wild animals. The musical fountain show in the evening adds to the charm. ✔ Fun adventure for families & kids ✔ Scenic road to the park with breathtaking views ✔ High-range rental vehicles available for a comfortable ride ✔ Suicide Point nearby – a must-visit for stunning views However, maintenance could be improved, and the caves can be challenging for elderly visitors. If you’re in Nainital and tired of just boating and shopping, Eco Cave Garden is the perfect change of pace — a raw, thrilling, hands-on experience that feels like a mix of nature park, mini adventure zone, and a kid-friendly Indiana Jones ride. 🪨 It’s not polished or artificial — it’s earthy, tight, and meant to make you crawl, bend, and feel alive. --- 🕒 Timings & Tickets 🗓️ Open: Every day ⏰ Timings: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM 🎟️ Entry Fee: Adults ₹100 | Children ₹60 (Prices may vary slightly during peak season) --- 🚗 Parking & Transportation Parking available near the entrance (limited slots, paid). You can also walk — but expect a short uphill stretch. --- 🌳 The Real Experience Eco Cave Garden isn’t just a park — it’s an underground maze of natural-style caves, slightly modified for safety but rugged enough to challenge your comfort zone. There are six caves — Tiger, Panther, Bat, Squirrel, Fox, and Flying Fox — each with unique shapes and challenges. Expect to crawl, duck, and squeeze through narrow rock passages with dim lighting and raw, natural charm. No filters — just stone, darkness, and your sense of adventure. --- 🧒 Is It for Everyone? ✔️ Great for kids (6+) and young explorers ❌ Not ideal for elderly visitors, anyone claustrophobic, or with joint issues 👟 Tip: Wear comfortable clothes and shoes with good grip (no slippers!) --- 💧 Extras & Surroundings Small musical fountain (operational seasonally) Benches and small gardens for rest Snack & tea stalls outside — perfect for recharging post-adventure ☕ --- ⚠️ Unfiltered Truth Gets crowded on weekends and holidays. Inside, it can be hot, narrow, and sweaty — but that’s part of the fun! You’ll likely come out dusty, tired… and smiling. 😄 --- 💬 Final Thoughts Eco Cave Garden isn’t about glamour — it’s about grit, curiosity, and real adventure. No filters, no polished floors, no fake decor — just rock, nature, and the joy of exploration.

A must-visit attraction in Nainital, enjoyable for both adults and children. The natural caves are easy to navigate with kids, though the last one—called the Ape Cave—is a bit challenging and the most fun. By the end, you’ll feel truly satisfied with the experience.

Good place for nature lover full of greenery with caves of tiger leopard and other wild animal adventure activities for children adults like Zip lining, Bull riding. mini restaurant for foods and hill view point for selfie makes it more attractive

Not that much interesting — it’s mainly a natural cave setup. There are no traces of tigers or jaguars as some might expect. It’s okay for a quick visit, but not a must-see. Also, be cautious of langurs(monkeys) around the area.

Historical place
Gurney House, located in Nainital, is a historic 18th-century British-style cottage that was once the residence of the famous hunter and naturalist Jim Corbett. Now converted into a museum, it offers daily tours for visitors to explore Corbett's life and work. Surrounded by lush greenery, this colonial-style house showcases his personal belongings and memorabilia, providing insight into his contributions to wildlife conservation and efforts to protect the Bengal tiger.
Gurney House was corbett family's summer stay. At present it is not their property and it is owned by Dalmia family who are used it as homestay. The bunglow is really nice with it's forest environment. All furnitures, trophies are kept in well manner where you can feel the touch of Jim Corbett.

We had a beautiful stay at Hushstay x Gurney House. Mrs. Dalmia, the owner, was charming to chat to, as she took us on a historical walk-through Gurney House and her family’s association with it. Ganesh bhaiya, the caretaker, was extremely helpful when we called him almost a dozen times to get the directions right. Once there, he & Bhagwati didi made us feel comfortable and at home. Ganesh bhaiya regaled us with stories about Nainital while Bhagwati didi was always there, with a smile, to serve us whatever we wanted. Calling the hospitality ‘inviting’ is an understatement. Speaking about food, simple, home-cooked meals tasted wonderful and were made with love. If you do not want to step out, you can order food in too. Zomato is available; Ganesh bhaiya can provide a few restaurant numbers too. Coming to the house itself, it is a cottage from the British era. It has been painstakingly maintained. The artifacts, from Corbett’s lives, are an absolute delight. We had a happy time walking around the house, seeing & appreciating each of the artifacts. Hushstay x Gurney House has a small garden where our dog loved to play. The surrounding trees are teeming with birds. The location is winning too. In spite of being in the heart of Nainital, it felt exclusive & secluded.

Very little known about Jim Corbett's house. It is now owned by Dalmia's. The house still hosts the things used by Jim corbett and his writings. Although it is a little difficult to visit this place as it is around 1km from main road and a very steep rise to the house but one will feel enchanted after a visit to the famous hunter's home. We visited while there was renovations going on. Below are the pics of the things used by him. There is no entry fee as very few people knows about this house and very few visits here.

Visited Gurney House on 27th & 28th of September 2025. I visited his house, with my little daughter and two niece, to celebrate the occasion of this 150th birth anniversary this year. I was a great experience to be there and feel his presence. I must thank Smt. Nilanjana Dalmia, the present owner of the house as they maintain the house as it is, as it was in November, 1947 when Jim & Maggie left the house. I spent one night there. It was memorable for me.

The former abode of the British hunter, conservationist, naturalist and author - Jim Corbett is called Gurney House. The charming colonial cottage, located near the Nainital Lake, has a tiny museum with the achievements and life story of Jim Corbett. A quaint little nursery is also housed in the premises with a variety of shrubberies and plants. Even though the Gurney House is a private residence, tourists are welcome to visit by prior permission. The lovely owners also give a complimentary house tour to the Corbett lovers. Located in the picturesque Ayarpatta hill slopes, the Gurney House continues to maintain its colonial charm and vintage aura. Corbett's writing comes alive here, in the house hiding his possessions and furniture. The Gurney House was sold to Mr Sharda Prasad Varma in 194 by Jim Corbett's sister. It is currently owned by Mr Varma's grandaughter Nilanjana Dalmia.
Anshul G — Google review
The erstwhile home of famed hunter-conservationist and writer Jim Corbett, Gurney House is a charming 19th century British cottage in Nainital. It came into being in 1881 when, following the death of Christopher William Corbett, the Post Master of Nainital, his wife Mary Jane and her nine children moved from Alma House to a new site on Ayarpatta hill and erected a dwelling on it called Gurney House. By her will dated 3rd March, 1899, Mrs. Mary Jane Corbett bequeathed the Gurney House estate to her daughter, Miss Margaret Winifred Corbett (Maggie), who became the sole and absolute owner of the estate upon her mother’s death. Maggie and her brother Jim lived in the house until 1947, when they decided to depart for Kenya, possibly because neither could face the thought of continuing to live in India after the death of the other. Therefore, in November 1947, Miss Margaret Winifred Corbett sold the estate, the house and its possessions through a registered deed of sale to Mrs Kalavati Varma. Kalavati Varma was the wife of Sharda Prasad Varma, who was the youngest Indian barrister ever from Cambridge University, UK, at the time. Belonging to a prominent zamindari family from Bihar, Varma practiced law in the Chhapra district courts located near his family mansion in Ballia. Kalavati Varma was also the sister of well-known industrialist and member of Lord Wavell’s Council, Sir J.P. Srivastava. Sharda Prasad Varma was born in Ballia, near Siwan, in Bihar. His birthdate is not known to us but he should be born on 1890 or so, as he was more than ten years older to his wife.He was very close to Dr Rajendra Prasad, the President of India and was related to him as well. As their children grew older, the Varmas decided to educate them in the prestigious schools of Nainital and began looking for a house there. Maggie and Jim that they sell Gurney House to the couple and the idea appealed to them. The deal went through and Gurney House became the home of the Varma family. It was here that the next two generations of the family were educated and practically raised. Years later, when the children of Sharda Prasad and Kalavati felt they were unable to take care of the property due to old age and health problems, they decided to sell it. Not wanting the family home to go to an outsider, the house was bought in May 2006 by a granddaughter of Sharda Prasad and Kalavati, Nilanjana Dalmia, daughter of their son Prakash Kumar Varma. Gurney House has been a home for the Varma family since 1947. It remains a private home whose residents are Corbett lovers and want to maintain its character and historical legacy. The house still contains Corbett’s possessions, namely his trophies, African drum, boat, fishing rod, books, and furniture. The Varma-Dalmia family hopes to make Gurney House a treasure trove of Corbett memorabilia and welcome any Corbett lovers who wish to see his beautiful home. it was amazing experince to visit this historical place. awesome i love jim corbett gurney house.

Brilliant property in Ayarpatta in Nainital - long, uphill walk, but a 5 minuet taxi ride from the Mall/ Market area. This cottage which belonged to the Corbett's and was their family house is lovingly maintained by the present owners who allow complimentary visits to the property. We were shown around by the caretakers while the present owners family was out. The house has Corbett's study, bedroom, parlour, dining all immaculately retained and maintained.

Tibetan & Bhotia Market is a bustling hub for locals seeking winter fashion and bargain shopping. Located near the Naina Devi temple, this market offers a wide range of products, from clothing to delicious street food like mutton momos and soya dumplings. Visitors can also explore the nearby Shyamkhet tea garden for Uttarakhand tea or make a trip to the Ghorakhal temple.
Good place for shopping for local products. Prices are on the expensive side. There are many food stalls serving delicious food. I loved the mutton fried rice. The famous Naina Devi temple is also nearby and a must visit. I purchased a couple of woolen garments and their quality was good.

There are lots of clothes, bags, toys and useful stuff for all age groups and genders. Fixed price shops. Varieties of stuff available and the quality is quite good.
Rajesh P — Google review
Bhotia market is famous for shopping and food... It's the only street market in nainital where tourist attractions are more than usual... Momos are very tasty, much cheaper than other.... This place is crowded and there is not much space...so be patient then enter... Naina devi mandir is there.. you can also go boating from this side.... Overall a good place for shopping prices are considerable.. Clothes are not fancy, and prices are higher ... I suggest you to go for a visit only and enjoy the taste of nainital momos. There are many shops for cosmetics and gift items..
Rishav S — Google review
Situated near naini lake. You will mostly find winter wears along with jewellery, shawls, other clothes. Bargaining skill is required to shop here. You if know the skill you can get very good items in cheap rate. Market gets active around 3PM in the noon. There are small stalls, food joints and other eateries in this market. Shop, eat and enjoy!
Prathama M — Google review
Very expensive items. 99% shops have exactly the same items at almost exactly the same rates. There is zero variety. You can bargain for a lower rate that is the only plus point. Only thing you get here are sweaters, jackets, handbags and shawls.

Nice stalls loved this place. Sweaters and jackets are available at less price. People are very friendly here. Food stalls also available in the market. They are gonna close this market by night 8'0' clock so better to visit this tibetan market before 8PM. Hand gloves , sweaters and other winter related stuff available at less price here.

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Nestled on the SherKaDandahill hilltop in Nainital City, Uttarakhand, G B Pant High Altitude Zoo is a 4.592-hectare zoo that sits at an elevation of about 2100 meters. Established in 1980 and opened to the public in 1995, this zoo is managed by Bharat Ratna G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo Management Society.
Worth every rupee. The entry fee is only 100 Rs but so much to see. Tigers and Leopards are the high lights of the Zoo. Too much to climb to reach the zoo from the point where vehicles are stopped. As its in mountain one has to walk uphill a lot. If you are used to walk uphill its not an issue. Many varieties of birds are there. You can see bears and red pandas too. Very well maintained and clean zoo. Don’t make noise and follow rules when you visit the Zoo. Kids will definitely enjoy.
Divya G — Google review
Well maintained zoo , if coming by foot be prepared for the good work out for legs. Tough for elderly people and heavy person. Very steep climb take car. Once you reach you have nice view of lake.
Ajeet K — Google review
Zoo is located on a peak accessible only through shuttles operating infront of India hotel on mall road. There's lot of walking and steep accent there no caddy available, therefore I would suggest avoiding aged people OT people who are not comfortable with heavy cardio. Overall zoo have decent number of species and animals are quite active.
Nishant B — Google review
G B Pant High Altitude Zoo is an absolute must-visit and genuinely worth the entry fee! This beautifully maintained zoo offers a fantastic experience. The main attractions definitely delivered, especially getting to see the magnificent Royal Bengal Tiger and those incredibly cute Red Pandas up close. They also have an impressive array of Leopards, along with several species of Himalayan goats and sheep, like the striking Blue Sheep. While not huge, its mountain setting means sloped paths, which adds to the unique high-altitude feel, though elderly visitors might find it a bit challenging. I spent a relaxed 2-3 hours exploring everything thoroughly. A fantastic day out!
Vaibhav V — Google review
One of the best zoo in India, neat and clean. Lot of animals and birds including Tiger and leopard. Must visit place in Nainital. We liked this place more than Jungle Safari in Corbett or Rajaji National Park.
Prashant S — Google review
Frankly, the zoo is nice, if you like climbing hills. I found it strenuous. You have to walk uphill quite a lot to reach the tickets counter and then inside the zoo more climbing. I enjoyed watching the tigers, leopards and red pandas and some mountain goats and deers. But many of the cages were empty. Sometimes only after a steep climb to an enclosure you realise that there is nothing there. Still I liked what I saw though I was really tired with all that climbing up.

Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo, Nainital – A Unique Hillside Experience The Nainital Zoo is located on a scenic hilltop, accessible only via shuttle services operating in front of Hotel India on Mall Road. 🚐 The route is quite steep, and there’s a fair bit of walking involved — so it may not be suitable for elderly visitors or anyone uncomfortable with heavy uphill walks (no caddies or private vehicles allowed). Once you reach the top, you’ll find a well-maintained zoo with a decent variety of animals and birds — from Himalayan bears and leopards to barking deer and colorful pheasants. The enclosures are clean, and most animals appear active and healthy. 🦌🐆 The fresh mountain air and peaceful surroundings make the visit enjoyable and educational, especially for families and children. Just remember to wear comfortable shoes and carry water for the climb!

Wow ~~ after 17 years back, Finally incame here in the city of Kashi ~~ Where God, Goddess, and Goodness is in the Air we breathe ~~ Bhaang in the meal that we eat And many more 9@11 Sharing a little details about Sankat Mochan Temple that I usually visit in my childhood. 🙏 Sankat Mochan Temple: The Heart of Devotion in Kashi 🙏 The Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is one of the most spiritually charged places in Varanasi, dedicated to the Hindu deity Hanuman, revered as Sankat Mochan, the "Reliever from Troubles." For centuries, this temple has served as a powerful symbol of faith, drawing millions seeking strength and solace. Historical Roots and Tulsidas’s Vision :: The history of the temple is inextricably linked to the saint-poet Goswami Tulsidas, the celebrated 16th-century author of the revered epic, the Ramcharitamanas. According to local tradition and belief, Tulsidas had a divine vision of Lord Hanuman at this precise spot near the Assi River. Inspired by this celestial encounter, he established the original temple, making it a sacred pilgrimage site for devotees of both Lord Rama and Hanuman. It is also believed that Tulsidas composed many of his devotional verses, including parts of the Ramcharitamanas, right here under the shade of an ancient tree. The magnificent temple structure seen today was later given its current form in the early 20th century by the visionary educationist and freedom fighter, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. Spiritual and Astrological Significance The temple’s central deity, Lord Hanuman, is worshipped with immense fervor. The name Sankat Mochan promises that sincere prayers offered here will alleviate life's hardships and obstacles. The temple holds particular astrological significance, as devotees believe that worshipping Hanuman here can neutralize the malefic effects associated with the planets Shani (Saturn) and Mangal (Mars), making it a primary destination for those seeking planetary remedies. Consequently, Tuesdays and Saturdays witness vast queues of worshippers. Uniquely, the idol of Hanuman faces Lord Rama, eternally maintaining his posture of dedicated service and devotion. A Beacon of Culture and Charity Beyond worship, the temple is a profound cultural institution. It is the annual host of the prestigious Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh, a five-day classical music and dance festival that transforms the complex into an artistic arena where devotion and performance merge. Furthermore, the temple’s leadership established the Sankat Mochan Foundation (SMF) in 1982, dedicated to the monumental cause of cleaning and protecting the sanctity of the nearby holy Ganges River, underscoring the temple’s commitment to service and environmental stewardship alongside spirituality.

Church
St John in the Wilderness Church, located in Nainital city, is a popular tourist spot and one of the best attractions in the area. Situated on a hilltop surrounded by pine and deodar trees, this neo-gothic style church is considered one of the finest in any hill station in India. The stained glass windows and overall architecture make it a picturesque and spiritually enriching experience for visitors.
St John's in the Wilderness Church is one of the oldest churches in Nainital. This church is slightly above the High Court. You can also reach here by walking through the High Court. The church is very beautiful. The government should do something to conserve it.
Abhishek A — Google review
This beautiful building amidst the beautiful hills of Nainital attracts tourists. I also parked my car in its compound as this Church is located in Mallital near High Court. I looked around the building of this beautiful church but did not see anyone there and the church was locked. Then a local person told me that the foundation of this church was laid by a priest named Wilson of Calcutta in 1844 and it was completed in 1846 which is also written outside the church. Due to the construction, the priest had to stay in an unfinished cottage in the nearby forest, due to which this church got its name. This St. John in the Wilderness church was built during the British Raj and till India became independent, Nainital was the favorite retreat of prominent British citizens and most of the British followers used to come to this church for prayers. This church is dedicated to St. John. Its architecture is an example of neo-Gothic architecture. The calm and divine atmosphere makes this church special. Coloured glass in the windows, three-storey bell tower, porch based on arches, arched door for entry into the prayer hall, stone-made and tiled roof etc. are the main features. My visit was after the Corona period, so I did not find the church open and no caretaker was seen. It is certain that St. John in the Wilderness is an attractive church and I am also thankful to the local person who shared so much information.

Like its namesake in Dharamshala, this church stands in the midst of a grove of deodar trees. Also, like the Dharamshala church, this is an old one - it dates back to 1844 and is still in use, being part of the Church of North India. We visited on a Sunday morning, around 10 AM. The church was closed and there was nobody around to let us in so that we could have a look. Church service is (according to a sign outside) at 4 PM on Sundays; we could not come back for this, so contented ourselves with looking at the church from the outside. It's a beautiful and atmospheric old building, with stained glass in a rose window, behind the altar, and along the sides. It seems, at least on the outside, to be poorly maintained, with peeling paint, overgrown with weeds, and with quite a lot of garbage - plastic wrappers and similar rubbish - strewn nearby. A pity.
Madhulika L — Google review
The St. John in the Wilderness Church is just 2 km away from the Nainital Mall Road. You can easily walk to the church or hire a cycle rickshaw or auto rickshaw to reach here. The calmness of this church attracts a lot of followers who seek peace and tranquillity in life. The beautiful architecture of St. John in the Wilderness Church is commendable and holds its heritage of earlier times. The St. John in the Wilderness Church shares the similarity of its architecture and name with a church in North California which is among the most followed churches in the country.

Mall Road in Nainital is the heart of the town and one of its most iconic attractions. Stretching along the beautiful Naini Lake, this lively promenade offers a mix of scenic beauty, shopping, and local flavors. Walking here, especially in the evening, feels magical—the lake on one side with boats gently floating, and rows of shops, cafés, and street food stalls on the other. You’ll find everything from woollens, handicrafts, candles, and souvenirs to local delicacies like momos and bhuttas. It’s the perfect place to experience the true vibe of Nainital—families strolling, couples enjoying lakeside views, and tourists bargaining happily at shops. While it can get crowded during peak season, that buzz is part of its charm. A must-do is to grab a hot cup of tea or coffee, sit by the railings overlooking the lake, and soak in the view of the hills glittering with lights after sunset. Tips: - Best enjoyed on foot; vehicles are restricted during certain hours. - Evenings are the most vibrant, but mornings offer peaceful walks. - Carry some cash for small shops and food stalls. ✅ Overall: A must-visit spot in Nainital for shopping, leisure walks, and lake views. The experience of Mall Road defines the charm of Nainital itself.

Naini Lake is a picturesque and serene location in the heart of Nainital, surrounded by lush green hills. It is a popular attraction for tourists due to its beautiful setting and the various activities it offers. Visitors can enjoy boat rides on the lake or explore the vibrant shopping area along its shores, which offers a variety of local handicrafts and apparel.
As I sat in the wooden boat on Naini Lake, I felt a deep sense of serenity wash over me. The surrounding hills, covered in lush greenery, rose majestically from the water's edge, their reflections rippling gently on the lake's surface. The clear blue sky above added to the tranquility of the scene, making it a perfect moment to unwind and connect with nature. The gentle lapping of the water against the boat's hull and the occasional call of a bird were the only sounds that broke the silence, creating a sense of peacefulness that was both calming and rejuvenating. As I gazed out at the lake, I noticed the way the sunlight danced across the water, creating a mesmerizing display of light and shadow. The surrounding mountains, with their rugged terrain and verdant forests, seemed to stretch up to the sky, their grandeur a reminder of the natural world's majesty. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the earthy smell of the forest floor, adding to the sensory experience. As I sat there, I felt my worries and concerns slowly drifting away, like the ripples on the lake's surface. The peacefulness of the surroundings seemed to seep into my soul, calming my mind and soothing my spirit. I felt grateful for this moment of solitude, this chance to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature. The boat gently rocked back and forth, creating a sense of gentle motion that seemed to match the rhythm of my breathing. I closed my eyes, letting the tranquility of the moment wash over me, and felt my senses come alive. The sounds, sights, and smells of the lake all blended together to create a sense of harmony and balance. In this moment, I felt a deep connection to the natural world, a sense of oneness with the universe that was both exhilarating and humbling. The beauty of Naini Lake was more than just a visual experience – it was a spiritual one, a reminder of the magic and wonder that lies just beyond our daily lives. As I sat there, surrounded by the majesty of nature, I felt my spirit lift, my heart fill with joy, and my soul rejuvenate.

Whether you're there for a romantic getaway, a peaceful solo trip, or a family vacation, this lake never disappoints. Paddle, row, or sail – boating here is peaceful and gives a fantastic view of the town and hills.

This lake is a beauty. From up in the mountains, you can spot its mango shape, perfectly framed by the hills. The British, back in the day, built two roads around it – the higher one for themselves and the lower one for the locals. Boating here is the best way to take it all in, every angle showing off something new. Around the lake, there’s no shortage of little restaurants and food stalls to explore.

This is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. Beautiful place with view & enjoy photography. One can enjoy the Sun set at this place with boating. Lake is covering good amount of area and is quite clean as compared to lakes in other tourist destinations. Naini lake is one of the wonderful experience in my life. Loved the water, the cleanliness the surrounding mountains all around the eye shaped lake is truly nature blessing. It's the main attraction of this place and covers the entire mall road in length. You can do boating too and you can also visit the Naina Devi temple 🛕🚩

The Lifeline of Nainital: The entire town of Nainital revolves around the lake. The two major tourist hubs—Mall Road (a busy promenade) and Tallital/Mallital (the two ends of the lake)—are situated right on its banks. Vibrant and Scenic: Unlike quieter lakes nearby (like Khurpatal), Naini Lake is a vibrant center of activity. The backdrop of densely forested hills (like Naina Peak, Tiffin Top) studded with colonial-era cottages and the sacred Naina Devi Temple on its northern shore makes for a highly picturesque setting. Night View: The view after sunset is especially praised, as the lights from the hillsides and the town reflect beautifully on the dark water. Main Activities Boating: This is the most popular activity. Visitors can hire different types of boats, including: Rowboats (with a rower): The classic and most relaxing option. Paddle Boats: For those who want to row themselves. Yachting: Also available for a more premium experience. Lakeside Walk: Strolling along the Mall Road (which runs along the lake) and the more peaceful Thandi Sadak (Cool Road) is a favorite pastime for tourists. It's a great spot for people-watching, shopping, and dining. Photography: The crescent shape, the colorful boats, and the surrounding hills provide numerous opportunities for photography, especially during sunrise and sunset.

It's amazing. What a beautiful place it is! Fully surrounded by hills. It's in the lap of hills and the same cuteness as a baby has in the lap of a mother. People have to go there once. I can't describe it in words, you will feel it if you are in love with the mountains and hills. Just go there and choose a top place of a hill like Nainital Zoo. From there you can see how beautiful things nature can create. It shall heal your mind and heart. From there you will see the moving clouds over the Naini Lake. It's gorgeous.

The lake is indeed beautiful and is well kept. The water looks clean and the fish seem to be thriving. The walking trails around are not complete and not paved very well. The boating facilities are good. In general, it is a beautiful place to visit.

Visiting this place during monsoons can be a very different experience. The off and on rains and mist actually enhance the beauty, charm, and romance of the place. ❤️ Go boating on the lake, stroll on 'thandi sadak' or just sit by the lake. And don't hide, if it is raining; open your umbrellas or wear your rain ponchos and keep walking !! The beauty and shape of the lake can be better appreciated if you dare to trek to Naina Peak. Be prepared to shell out 320 rupees for a 15-minute boat ride for 3 persons.

The area is dotted with street-food vendors, adding to the lively atmosphere. A popular spot for tourists, it provides easy access to nearby markets and eateries on Mall Road. Naini Lake, the heart and soul of Nainital, is a breathtaking natural freshwater body nestled amidst seven lush hills in the Kumaon Himalayas. Its distinctive mango or crescent shape and tranquil, shimmering waters immediately capture the visitor’s eye, making it the focal point of this popular hill station. The Scenic Splendour and Ambiance The sheer beauty of the lake is undeniable. Surrounded by the colonial-era architecture of Mallital (north side) and Tallital (south side), the panorama is stunning, especially during sunrise and sunset. . The hills—capped with pine, deodar, and oak trees—provide a majestic backdrop, creating a cool, peaceful atmosphere that is a much-needed escape from city life. Walking along the Mall Road promenade that runs parallel to the lake is a favored activity, allowing tourists to soak in the beauty and the bustling yet relaxed town culture. Tourist Experience and Activities The main draw of Naini Lake is, without a doubt, boating. Visitors have the choice of various watercraft: Row Boats: Typically charged for a half-round or full-round, these are popular for a relaxed ride, as a boatman rows for you. A half-round usually costs around ₹160 and a full round ₹210 (prices are approximate and can vary). Paddle Boats: Ideal for couples or those who enjoy a bit of light exercise, charges are generally around ₹210 per hour. Boating hours are typically from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the early morning and late evening offering the most photogenic light and serene experience. Beyond boating, the lake acts as a hub for other attractions, including the nearby Naina Devi Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, lending the area a profound religious and historical significance. A cable car ride near the lake offers a panoramic bird's-eye view of the emerald-green waters and the surrounding peaks. Mythology and Historical Context The lake’s mystique is deepened by its mythological roots. It is believed to be the site where the eye ( Nain ) of Goddess Sati fell after her immolation, giving the lake its name (Naini-tal, or 'lake of the eye'). This legend solidifies the area's sanctity. Historically, the town was 'discovered' by the British in 1841 by P. Barron, who was so taken by the spot that he established a European colony here, turning it into the summer seat of the North-Western Provinces, adding a distinct colonial charm to the lakefront. The Downside While breathtaking, the lake's overwhelming popularity means the area, especially Mall Road, can get severely crowded during peak tourist season and holidays. This can detract from the intended 'peaceful' experience. Furthermore, like many heavily visited sites, concerns about cleanliness and water quality are sometimes raised, highlighting the need for stricter environmental protection and maintenance to preserve its natural beauty. In conclusion, Naini Lake is an essential destination that fully lives up to its reputation as a stunning Himalayan lake resort. Its blend of scenic beauty, engaging activities, and deep-rooted mythology makes it an unforgettable experience, provided visitors are prepared to navigate the crowds during high season.

Visitors can reach the observation point at an altitude of 2,270 meters via a cable car ride. From this vantage point, one can enjoy stunning views of the town and surrounding mountains, including the majestic Nanda Devi peak, which is the highest in Uttarakhand.
One of the most stunning spots in Nainital! Snow View Point offers a jaw-dropping view of the snow-covered Himalayan ranges (on a clear day). You can reach here by the ropeway from Mallital or by road — both are enjoyable, but the cable car ride is definitely more exciting and scenic. Once you reach the top, the view is just incredible — peaceful, panoramic, and perfect for clicking pictures. There are also a few small shops, snacks, and a temple up there, making it a pleasant place to spend some time. Highly recommended for couples, families, and solo travelers. Just check the weather — on cloudy days, you might miss the Himalayan view.

It provides the view of the snow capped Himalayas. Although we couldn't have the pleasure of that view. It was a monsoon when we visited. But it had its own beauty. Sitting atop the clouds and it was dreamy. Walking in the clouds. The road to reach there was uphill climb. And it was thrilling to drive there. We were on the edge of our seat and adrenalin was rushing in the veins. Although the local prefer to opt for a loca taxi rather than to drive. And I agree. Unless you are an expert driver.

Located on the Manora Peak, about 9 kilometers from Nainital, the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) is a paradise for stargazers. Established in 1955 and shifted to its current location in 1961, ARIES boasts some of the world's most advanced telescopes. Visitors can obtain prior permission to access the observatory and enjoy viewing celestial objects through the telescopes on clear nights.
Yesterday afternoon 14 June 2024, I had the opportunity to visit the Aryabhatta Institute of Astrophysics and Observatory near Nainital. To gain access, visitors must fill out a form and register. Visits to their science lab typically begin at 4:30 pm and are available to the public three days a week. The institute is located 10 kilometers from Nainital, and since there is no public transportation, visitors need to arrange their own vehicle or hire a taxi, I paid 2500/-. The drive through the hilly region takes approximately 30 minutes each way. Despite several attempts to contact the scientists beforehand, my calls went unanswered. The visitor activities are managed by postgraduate and PhD students on a rotational basis. The visit commenced with a 10-minute film about the institute and its scientists, followed by the observation of sunspots through a 50 mm telescope, concluding by 5 pm. The next scheduled activity, stargazing, begins at 7:30 pm, leaving visitors with 2.5 hours of free time. The campus has a small canteen offering tea and coffee but no snacks, which felt insufficient. The stargazing session, starting at 7:30 pm, involved adjusting their 200 mm telescope for about 30 minutes. I was the first to observe the moon and its craters, but the session ended quickly with around 30 visitors. The entire activity, lasting about 30 minutes, seemed disproportionate to the 5-6 hours invested in the visit. Additionally, the security gate is located 2 kilometers downhill, with no early departure allowed. The lack of reception, lounge, or canteen facilities at the gate was inconvenient. For example, when a lady requested drinking water for her child, she was directed to a nearby public handpump. During the sunspot observation, I inquired about the recent low-latitude sightings of the aurora borealis, but the students couldn't provide an answer. They also mentioned that stargazing sessions are canceled if the weather is cloudy. I requested to speak with a senior scientist, which was arranged. During our discussion, I asked various questions about the Starship 4 launch, neutron stars, and other astronomy-related simple topics. The senior scientist, however, indicated that their focus was on their own research and collaborations, and they were unable to address my queries. When I suggested improving the infrastructure for visitors, he mentioned that it was the government's responsibility and emphasized their heavy workload. Suggestions for Improvement: 1. Visitor Engagement: - Revise the registration form with consideration for visitors from diverse backgrounds, especially children, to address their curiosity. - Implement regular Q&A sessions led by senior scientists to answer common astronomy questions. Monthly sessions with the institute's director could help keep all scientists updated with current knowledge in astrophysics. 2. Educational Activities: - Show educational films about the institute's work that are understandable to the general public to spark interest in astronomy among younger generations. - Utilize all available telescopes on campus, including the 40-inch telescope, to provide a comprehensive experience for knowledgeable visitors. 3. Infrastructure Enhancements: - Improve facilities at the security gate, such as adding a reception area, lounge, and adequate canteen services. - Ensure drinking water and basic amenities are readily available for all visitors. 4. Professional Development: - Require annual examinations for scientists to stay updated on global advancements in their field. - Foster a culture of curiosity and public interaction, similar to the approach of Dr. Abdul Kalam Azad sir, to better educate and engage with visitors. Overall, there is a need for a more visitor-friendly approach, enhanced educational activities, and better infrastructure to make the experience at the Aryabhatta Institute of Astrophysics and Observatory more enriching and enjoyable for the public.

Aries - One of leading optical observatory in India. The pride of Uttarakhand. Home to three telescope - 1. Sampurnanand Telescope (104cm), 2. Schmidt Telescope (50cm) & 3. Solar Telescope (15cm) I was thrilled to watch them from close. Its a heaven for folks interested in science and astronomy. I wanted to visit this panaromic and star searching place from a long time. Finally got a chance, when I got a call for an interview. This whole area is seperate from surrounding area. You can't go inside without an appointment. Its all clean and properly maintained, the whole area. Watching the series of mountains from this height is a treat to the eyes. Its Spectacular. If you ever get a chance to come here, grab it.

A leading research institute based in Nainital, ARIES specializes in Astronomy, Atmospheric Sciences and Astrophysics. Situated on Manora Peak, it is an autonomous body under the aegis of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The astronomical observatory is open to the general public and tourists during all working days on afternoons. However, if you are looking at engaging in a spectacular experience of starry nights, you will need to take prior permission from the institute. There are only 3 to 4 moonlit nights fixed for this special viewing. The ginormous telescopes and the beautiful views set your imagination in motion at ARIES. A power packed time with your family, especially kids, can help you learn more about our universe and its different secrets right here. It is open from 2 pm to 4 pm every day except Saturdays and Sundays.

Perched on top of the Manora Peak in Beluwakhan, Nainital, Astronomical Observatory or Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Science (ARIES) helps you see the stars, celestial bodies, the moon and other heavenly bodies with the help of high powered, imported telescopes. The centre requires you to make prior appointment before visiting the place. Housing one of the most advanced telescopes in India, the Astronomical Observatory in Nainital is an autonomous institute open of the public during working days and afternoons. For night viewing, three fours days are fixed during the full moon period, the permission for which has to be obtained priorly.

Surreal. Breathtaking view from here. Informative and educational stargazing tour. But make sure to book it in advance via online. No entry/tour fee. Nicely explained and shown planets via the telescope. Must visit when in Nainital

Amazing place. Do visit if you have kids. It's free. Apply online via the Aries website to get observatory tour a week before going. They have educative films on space and in the evening after 7p.m. they have telescope viewing, where on a clear night you can see Venus, Mars and moon and other stars via their 14 inch telescope! It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for general public. Their staff and PHD researchers are very enthusiastic in answering any queries and questions kids or adults have about space/stars/galaxies etc. It was a delight to meet and interact with real life Astronomers and Astro physicists. It's a working observatory and institution. Saturday and Sunday are holidays. 2.30, 3.30 and 4.30 p.m. film shows are there and somedays at 7p.m. telescope viewing is there. It's about 5 kms from nainital town center.

What a memorable experience! Boating on the beautiful and clean Naini lake is a must for everyone to experience. The boating charges are regulated so there is no hassle of price negotiations. We went there on a weekend morning and there was no wait. There was almost no one other than us on the lake. They give life jackets to adults. There are many options of boats and the duration available to choose from. It's a different experience based on the time of day and the season but each and every experience is beautiful. Went for trekking and this place is awesome. Its well maintained, clean and strict. Good view and scenic. Trees everywhere and atmosphere is cold. If you are coming from one of the crowded cities like Mumbai, this is the best place to be Had one of the best times of my life...

Peace, purpose, and profound calm. Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry is a place that instantly slows you down. Located about 3 hours from Chennai by road, it’s easily accessible by bus or taxi — and worth every kilometre of the journey. The atmosphere here is deeply serene, with the gentle sea breeze and meditative silence creating the perfect setting for inner reflection. If you plan to stay, book your accommodation at the Ashram guest houses well in advance, as rooms are limited and often full. Even if you’re not staying within the Ashram, you can still visit during the open hours — just check at the Bureau Central for passes and guidance. The Bureau itself is worth a visit, with well-curated exhibits on Sri Aurobindo, The Mother, and their spiritual philosophy. Guided tours are also available for exploring the Ashram units, the town, and Auroville. A must-visit if you seek peace, simplicity, and a quiet reminder of what really matters

A very good place to stay. They charge a mere INR 1000 as donation and that too for a property that has one of the best views in Nainital. Himalaya Darshan, also known as Himalayan Viewpoint, is a popular vantage point in Nainital, situated at an altitude of about 2000m. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan mountains, lush green hills, and valleys below. This scenic lookout is a must-visit for tourists and honeymooners seeking romantic experiences in Nainital.
Very scenic and beautiful view from here. One should go in the early morning when the weather is clear with good visibility without clouds or fog. Overall, Himalaya Point is highly recommended for its breathtaking views and serene ambiance, making it a highlight of any trip to Nainital. Whether you are seeking a moment of quiet reflection or a perfect backdrop for photographs, this spot will not disappoint.
Dr. S — Google review
The place was just on the road with vehicles passing by your side. It's dangerous to take photos here as cars rode very carelessly. No place for parking. Why do they make it a spot when there is no place to stand here. Just a bunch of people doing business and looting people in the name of a spot. Nainital tourism did great to highlight useless places as a spot otherwise there is nothing here apart from the lake. The view was great from here though but the whole Nainital was not a great place for tourists, not well maintained spots, steep curves, locals drive rashly. Many chances for an accident. And why are people taking their kids with them, It's a crowded place not safe for children and someone who could not walk more than 10kms a day. I'll not visit again. Bye

Breathtaking, majestic and serenic landscape viewpoint which offer a chance to witness gigantic Himalayas. View may differ depending upon the climate, one can reach here by there own vehicle, rented scooter, rented vehicle, I would suggest using rented vehicle since there's no parking and spot is right on road. This spot is must do.

Himalaya Darshan Point is a must-visit spot in Nainital! The panoramic views of the Himalayan range are simply breathtaking. On a clear day, you can see the majestic snow-capped peaks stretching out as far as the eye can see. The scenic beauty and tranquility of the point make it a perfect spot for photography, relaxation, and taking in the natural splendor. Highly recommend adding this to your Nainital itinerary!"
Dr M — Google review
Today was one of those rare days when nature decides to put on a show — not in grand colors or clear skies, but in whispers of mist, soft rain, and dramatic clouds rolling over the hills. As we arrived, the skies were heavy with grey — a slow drizzle kissing the earth and a hush over the town that made everything feel calm, almost sacred. Within minutes, the rain eased, the horizon opened up slightly, and just when we thought the drama was over, the clouds came rushing back — thick, low, and fast, almost as if they had descended to meet us. It felt as though we were walking through the sky. The kids were thrilled, half-laughing, half-in-awe, their hair damp with mist and eyes wide with wonder. We stood by the railings, looking at layers upon layers of hills gently blanketed in fog, the trees swaying slightly, and that magical moment when the clouds didn’t just surround us — they hit us. It was surreal. These pictures are not just scenic views of hills and weather. They’re memories wrapped in cool air and quiet moments — a reminder of how refreshing it is to pause, look around, and let nature fill you up. A beautiful, unforgettable day. — Chaman

As you glide through the air, you'll be treated to stunning panoramic views of the iconic eye-shaped Naini Lake, rolling hills, and majestic snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.
Definitely worth one visit, its walkable from mall road, though stairs are somewhat steep. 1 hour is too short if you want to enjoy the fun rides at the top. price for each person is 370, so it becomes quite a bit for entire family. the feeling and ride are worth every penny though. at the top we have very good views, i also recommend getting professional photos at the top, he transfers them to your mobile. other than that there is a dinosaur park with free entry, which is worth esp the act of man putting on dinosaur costume which is very realistic and it charges at you :) there are other rides, but time is not enough to enjoy all

Land's End is a popular tourist spot in Nainital, situated at an altitude of 2120m above sea level. It used to be one of the most visited places in the area until the early 2000s. Despite not being on Google maps until recently, it offers stunning views of the surrounding areas and Khurpatal Lake.
Land's End used to be the most visited spot after snow view in Nainital until the early 2000s. I was amazed that it wasn't on Google maps so I added it today. It's a relatively flat walk of about 12 minutes from Ghora Stand at Bara Pathar which can also be taken on a horseback ride. The sunsets are one of the best here and you can witness the beautiful winter line during the winter months. Unfortunately it is in a neglected state now with the protective railing broken. District administration's apathy is quite evident.

Fast food restaurant
Chandni Chowk Restaurant in Nainital offers a delightful experience reminiscent of the famous Chandni Chowk in Delhi. The interior decor and design transport guests to the bustling streets of Delhi. This restaurant is renowned for its street food, offering a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian starters, including Gol gappas and chaat. The menu features Mughlai, Punjabi, and Chinese cuisine, with must-try items like piping hot Jalebi.
Located in front of naini lake. We had tried a few types of Maggie there and loved it. Though prices are slightly on the higher side, the quantity and quality does justice for it. Service is also ok, however, as the rush was very low at the time when we visited, hence they could attend to us fully.

While our stay at Nainital, we had our breakfasts and dinners here. The quality of food, quantity of food and their hygiene standards are great. They're at Mall road, right at the beginning, one doesn't have to hunt for this place as it's quite prominent. Don't forget to taste the milk, jalebi preparations. The people (Uncle) who served us were really nice and warm to us. The ambience of this restaurant is very old Delhi-ish, very friendly and warm. Overall, this is a must visit place if you're planning to go to Nainital or are already there! Special mention to Uncle ji , who made our experience great n big thumbs up for jalebis! 😋

The ambience is pleasant and the food is delicious. They have a huge variety of sweets, which is a treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. However, the pricing is slightly on the higher side, and the cutlery could definitely be improved. Still, it's a good option if you're looking for a place with good food and a comfortable dining environment.

Chandni Chowk Restaurant shines in terms of taste but could improve in other areas like menu variety, service speed, and atmosphere. If you're primarily focused on flavor and don’t mind waiting for your meal, this spot is worth a visit. However, if you're looking for a vibrant atmosphere or a wide selection of dishes, you might want to manage your expectations.

I think the place has a good ambience but poorly maintained. The staff is okay but food is below the mark. Too oily and not tasteful. They use so much of oil and grease in their food that one can’t just ignore it. Prices are too high for this kind of mediocrity..wouldn’t recommend..the cutlery is age old. It looks ugly and decreases your appetite. Do not order south indian or their mushroom curries or soups. Safe bet is to order paneer butter masala and rotis.

I recently visited this restaurant and was very disappointed with the food quality. The dishes lacked freshness, taste, and proper preparation—it felt like a 1-star experience. Nestled near Sariyatal, the Himalayan Botanical Garden is a true paradise for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. This expansive garden boasts an impressive collection of diverse plant life, including conifers, vibrant rhododendrons, and exquisite Himalayan orchids. Visitors can embark on guided tours to explore the unique flora or simply stroll along the meticulously maintained paths that wind through lush greenery.
Best place for plantsmen, botanists or even for those who love gardening etc. There are lots of interesting things to know about plants, cacti and butterflies. Different canopies for different species. You may spend as much as time based on your interest in these types. In addition it's situated in the lap of a mountain.
Roopjeet B — Google review
It was a good experience. There are lots of trees and plants and cacti. Also there is a small insect museum. Entry fees is Rs. 50. The top view is awesome. Due to hilly area, a bit of climbing needs to be done.

The Himalayan Botanical Garden in Nainital is a peaceful and scenic spot perfect for nature lovers. Located near Sariyatal, it offers a refreshing escape from the bustle of the town. The garden is well maintained, showcasing a wide variety of Himalayan flora, including rare and medicinal plants. With its walking trails and educational displays, it’s both relaxing and informative. Ideal for a quiet stroll, photography, or simply enjoying the mountain air. A hidden gem for anyone visiting Nainital. 🌿✨

For those who are really interested in knowing about the flora, this place is a must visit others might get bored. The best time to visit the garden is spring, coz thats the time you will get to see all plants. The garden has a cactus park and a fern garden too, both are amazing and well maintained. The insect museum is the highlight of the garden. The insects especially the butterfly are well preserved well labelled.

Himalayan Botanical Garden, a well developed garden from waste and a barren land. Good scenic hill view with flowers and butterflies. There are cafe, souvenir shop and domes for stay too. Beyond its scenic views, this botanical garden features a large variety of grasses, plants & herbs.
Dattatray K — Google review
Himalayan Botanical Garden Overview The Himalayan Botanical Garden is located near Nainital in Uttarakhand, India (specifically at 9CMP+J93, Smanora Range, Uttarakhand 263001). It spans about 26.9 hectares of subtropical forest and is home to many rare and endangered plants of the Himalayan region. Why visit? It has diverse plant collections: cacti park, fern garden, medicinal plants, etc. There is an insect museum (especially butterflies) which makes it interesting even for non-botany enthusiasts. Peaceful nature setting: situated on hill slopes, good for a relaxing outing rather than just sightseeing. Entry fee is modest: Adults ~ ₹50 (same for children in some cases) according to official listing. Practical details Opening hours: The review site states 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Terrain: Because of the hilly area, there is some climbing/upslope walking involved. As one review says: “Due to hilly area, a bit of climbing needs to be done.” Best time to visit: Spring is recommended so plants are in full bloom. Location note: It’s in the Smanora Range area of Nainital district. Tips for your visit Wear comfortable walking shoes (because of slope and some uneven paths). Allocate at least 1–2 hours if you want to see the major features (plant zones, insect museum). Some reviews say people spend ~1 hour. If you’re a botanical or nature-enthusiast, allow more time to explore the different zones (cacti section, medicinal plants, etc.). Go early in the day to avoid crowds and enjoy cooler, calmer environment. Being on hill slope, check weather/visibility conditions (especially if going in monsoon or late evening). If you’re staying in Nainital, pair this with other nearby nature spots for a fuller day. Respect the conservation aspect: avoid picking plants or disturbing the setup. Good to know For children or casual visitors: The insect museum and maybe the open nature setting make it worth a stop even if you’re not deeply into plants. For plant-lovers: Each special section (like cactus garden, fern garden) adds interest beyond just typical botanical garden plants. Because of the hillside terrain, people with mobility issues might find some parts less easy — you may want to check at the entrance if there are smoother trails.

Nestled in the serene hills of Nainital, the Nainital Zoo Complex, also known as Pt G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo, is a must-visit for animal lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. Established in 1984 at an elevation of 2100 meters, this expansive zoo spans over 4.6 hectares and showcases a variety of Himalayan wildlife including snow leopards, Tibetan wolves, and Himalayan black bears.
One of the zoo i have seen in my life with so many animals present. Many tigers were spotted when i visited. Amazing experience. It took around3-4 hours for me and my wife explore full area but was totally worth it. Seating places are available around the zoo at multiple places. Well maintained zoo.
Rohit J — Google review
This Zoo is located on the hill slope which gives it very beautiful surroundings. Some animals like Himalayan Goat, variety of Pheasant, Bear, deers etc are brought here from high altitude areas. However, the Royal Bengal Tiger was a treat to watch.
Sridhar C — Google review
The zoo is a good place to explore while in Nainital, provided you have the energy to walk around this high altitude zoo. Its a 20 minute uphill climb to reach the zoo, however there is an option of taking a shared cab at the base of the trek which costs around 70 rs per person which I would highly recommend. The ticket is 100 rs and they do not allow any food or drinks inside, these would have to be deposited at the entrance. Inside the zoo, you would have to further walk uphill to reach most of the animal enclosures so be prepared for a lot of walking. They do not have any vehicle for internal movement which would have been great. The animals had a moderately large enclosure which was kept very clean. The highlights are the red panda, the wolf and ofcourse the tiger. There is a gift shop as well as a small cafeteria at the exit.

Visiting Nainital Zoo was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped foot inside, I was captivated by the natural beauty and well-preserved habitat. This enchanting zoo is a haven for both wildlife enthusiasts and casual visitors looking to get closer to nature. The highlight of my visit was observing the majestic Royal Bengal Tigers. The zoo has created an exceptional tiger habitat that closely resembles their natural environment. It was awe-inspiring to watch these magnificent creatures prowl and play in such a well-designed space.

Welcome to our Uttarakhand 😊😊😊. This zoo is located towards Nainital (Tallital). There are lots of animals and birds here. the accommodation is well arranged, I like it. I have uploaded some of the pictures of them.It is located on the upper side of Tallital main road. The best time to visit there is in the summer season. When I went there, my room and college were in Nainital. At that time the zoo charged 50 rupees (in 2017). Maybe this amount has increased now. My recommendation is to go with more time because it takes time to roam the whole zoo area. Happy journey 🤗🤗🤗🤗
KM R — Google review
Its a high altitude zoo. Lots of animals and well maintained zoo. Since the zoo is on mountain expect alot of walking up and down the terrain. The best part is that they have preserved the nature and tree within zoo. Few of the enclosures feel like jungle. Must visit for your kids.
Tushar C — Google review
It's an high altitude location hence one need to prepare a long walk uphill. Less animals but preserved well. One disadvantage is the shuttle service stops close to 400m from the ticket and this uphill walk will be tough for 50plus . Authorities should do something for this.

We visited the zoo in june and a lot of people were there as it is the peak month.. A lot of people were there in the line for taking cars that take you to the zoo. But we prefer to go by bike only.. Restaurant
The Boat House Club in Nainital, established in 1910, was a social hub for the British elite who gathered for games and drinks. Today, it maintains its vintage charm and hosts an annual regatta. While membership offers regular fine dining and access to various activities at a reduced cost, temporary memberships are available for tourists. The club features a British-era bar and a lively discotheque during peak tourist seasons.
The Boat House Club in Nainital is a charming spot right by the lake, perfect for a relaxed outing. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, offering a taste of local flavors. The staff are friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. Whether you're enjoying a meal with a view or just soaking in the serene atmosphere, it's a great place to unwind. Note: While the club primarily caters to members, non-members can access its facilities by paying a nominal temporary membership fee or through a member's reference.
Sadhna T — Google review
This Boat house club is quite a popular spot that everyone talks about in Nainital. If offers sailing, dining, lake facing bar and other recreational activities. Primarily a members' club and guest are also allowed entry by paying 300 Rupees per head(as on date). However, on visiting the Boat house the place itself is alright, nothing too special. The food is okay and reasonably priced but definitely not amazing or anything to rave about. It is a decent spot if you just want to be by the water, but don't go expecting a fantastic meal or a super fancy place.
J T — Google review
A charming lakeside heritage experience! Boat House Club in Nainital is a beautiful and peaceful spot right next to the lake. The views are stunning, and the atmosphere has an old-world charm. It’s mostly a members-only club, but non-members can enter by paying a one-time access fee, which is quite reasonable. The best part is that some premium hotels nearby offer day access to the club—so if you're staying in one of them, you might be able to skip the entry fee altogether. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Nainital—whether for a quiet drink by the lake, a game of billiards, or just to soak in the vintage vibe. Not giving it a full 5 stars only because full membership is quite expensive and limited access during peak hours.
Pradumn C — Google review
Great view form the lake for this place. I didn't stay at the club but it was great experience during monsoon. We fall in love of view.
Mahtab A — Google review
I visited the Boat House Club and the experience was very disappointing. When I asked about entry, I was first told it’s “members only.” Only after I insisted did they mention a ₹900 charge per couple (plus another ₹900 for an extra stag). This was never clearly informed upfront and felt very unwelcoming. To make matters worse, my father—who has a medical issue and cannot wear shoes—was denied entry because he was in sandals. Instead of showing understanding, they offered to rent him shoes, which was honestly absurd. The whole attitude felt outdated, almost stuck in the British era. For a place in Nainital that should represent warmth and hospitality, this kind of exclusivity and rigidness is completely out of place. Would not recommend.

Nainital Stadium is a spacious and well-maintained playground, the only one of its kind in Nainital. It features a basketball ground and hosts hockey matches with teams from various states. Adjacent to the stadium is the Tibetan market where visitors can find affordable clothing. The stadium's location near Mall Road makes it a central attraction for tourists, and its proximity to Nainital Lake adds to its appeal. Additionally, the presence of a mosque nearby adds cultural significance to the area.
Nainital is a very beautiful hill station. The lake here captivates the tourists. The houses and hotels built on the hills look very beautiful. The stadium of Nainital is very big, children play here and in summer when the number of tourists increases, it is used as a parking lot. It is very nice to stroll on Mall Road in the evening. There are various types of restaurants and gift item shops here.

Nainital Stadium is truly a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the hills. I had the opportunity to visit recently, and I was thoroughly impressed by the natural beauty, peaceful environment, and well-maintained facilities this stadium offers. Whether you're a sportsperson, a fitness enthusiast, or just someone looking to enjoy a quiet morning walk, this place has something for everyone. Surrounded by lush green hills and fresh mountain air, the stadium provides a breathtaking backdrop for any activity. It’s one of the few stadiums I’ve seen where nature and sports blend so beautifully. The ground is spacious and clean, and the walking track is ideal for jogging or brisk walking, especially early in the morning. Many local events, sports matches, and school tournaments are held here, bringing the community together in a vibrant, active spirit. The atmosphere is always positive and family-friendly. It’s great to see such an infrastructure in a hill town like Nainital being maintained so well. A big thumbs-up to the local authorities and caretakers for keeping it functional and inviting. If you’re visiting Nainital, don’t miss the chance to stop by and experience this unique and refreshing space. Highly recommended!

🌄 Location & First Impression Situated near Tallital, just a short walk up from the bus stand or market area, the stadium sits against a beautiful backdrop of tall deodars and hill slopes. It’s not flashy. No giant boards, no fancy lighting. But it carries a raw, honest charm that reflects the spirit of real mountain youth. 👟 A Hub for Local Sports & Passion Step inside any day in the late afternoon or evening, and you’ll find: Kids running football drills, full of laughter and competition Teenagers smashing volleyballs with surprising skill Groups practicing hockey and athletics, barefoot sometimes, but never lacking in fire This place isn’t about glamour. It’s about grit, sweat, and dreams—especially for those who grew up in Nainital with limited space to play. 🧒Kids & Youngsters: The Real Heroes What makes this stadium special isn’t its size or structure—it’s the energy of the kids. Local children show up after school, dressed in jerseys or homemade kits, ready to play. Youngsters organize friendly football matches with full enthusiasm, cheered by friends and family. Even during light rain or chill evenings, you’ll find players practicing with dedication. This is where future athletes grow, quietly, passionately, without a spotlight. 🏏 Facilities & Maintenance The ground is well-kept for a hill town stadium. Basic tracks and goalposts are functional. It could use better fencing, lights, and more organized seating—but the spirit makes up for what’s lacking. 🧊 Why Visit? If you love sports, stop by in the evening and watch the local energy unfold. Great place to take kids for casual practice or picnics. Even if you're not playing, it’s a refreshing break from the tourist spots. 💬 Final Words: “In a town known for lakes and views, the Nainital Stadium is a reminder that the hills aren’t just peaceful — they’re also powerful. Especially when a child chases a ball with dreams in their eyes.” Whether you’re a traveler, a parent, or just someone seeking the real heartbeat of Nainital—take a walk to the stadium. It won’t ask anything from you, but it might just show you a different side of the town.

Himalaya Darshan Point, also known as the Himalayan View Point, is a popular tourist spot located approximately 5 kilometers from Nainital on the route to Kilbury. Situated at an altitude of about 2,000 meters, this vantage point offers breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayan peaks, including Nanda Devi and Trishul, as well as the lush green valleys below. Visitors have praised the serene and tranquil environment of Himalaya Darshan Point, making it an ideal location for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful retreat. The area is surrounded by dense forests and offers a refreshing ambiance away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Many tourists recommend visiting early in the morning, around 7-8 am, to experience clearer views of the Himalayan range. Some also suggest carrying binoculars to enhance the viewing experience. The viewpoint is accessible via a narrow road, and it's advisable to hire a small vehicle due to the terrain. For those interested in local cuisine, small eateries nearby serve popular snacks like Veg Maggi, which visitors can enjoy while taking in the panoramic mountain vistas. In summary, Himalaya Darshan Point offers a mesmerizing experience with its stunning views and serene environment. It's a must-visit for anyone traveling to Nainital, especially for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Himalayas.

Himalayas' snow ladden mountains which are almost more than 100 kms away from this point of Nainital but, on clear sky day, u can have an amazing and breathtaking views of long Himalayan range of Mountains. A small area from where you can have clear glimpses of these snow laddened mountains alongwith other hills of Utarakhand regions. 10 to 15 minutes stopover is good but some times it is too crowded.

You can see heaven mountains view covered with snow. You can get bikes, scooters on rentals starts from 500/day(fuel excluded) but if you are first time visitor prefer book a cab cause roads are very tricky only expert riders can ride on these roads. We had booked a Alto on 850 rupees which covers 7 points in 2-3 hours.

If you're looking to rent a bike or scooty, look no further than Lake City Tour and Travels. The owner's calm and composed nature made the whole process a breeze. On top of their very descent prices, the level of trust and generosity was incredible—he allowed me to keep the scooty for the entire two nights, which is a courtesy I didn't find anywhere else. It's rare to find such honest and accommodating service. A truly wonderful and stress-free experience.

Booked 2 scooters from this place for 9 days. When I got back with a scrape on the bike the man was fair and easy to speak to and arranged for the cheapest option for a replacement. He is a nice man with great English speaking. Great service. I would recommend other travellers to go here for a fair price and a kind family run buisness.

Nainital is a popular destination for paragliding, offering thrilling experiences in locations like Naukuchiatal and Bhimtal. Professional trainers are available to ensure a safe and enjoyable adventure. The best times for paragliding are from March to June and October to December when the skies are clear. This activity provides an opportunity to soar above the Himalayan ranges, offering breathtaking views of the valley and mountains.
Our paragliding experience in Nainital was absolutely amazing! The GoPro pictures and videos captured the breathtaking moments perfectly. The location is stunning, and the views from 8,500 meters height were unforgettable. We were a group of 5, and everything was well-organized. The price was reasonable, making it a great value for such an incredible adventure. A special thanks to Anjali for arranging everything so smoothly. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Nainital!

**Avoid Advance Booking – A Deceptive Experience with “Paragliding in Nainital”** My experience with *Paragliding in Nainital* was deeply disappointing and, frankly, deceptive. The much-hyped “online booking” process is nothing but a trap—completely unnecessary and designed to mislead. Despite being warned by others, I chose this vendor based on their impressive Google reviews, assuming professionalism. However, they employ standard scripted tactics to manipulate your decision-making. When I inquired about booking—even on a weekday—they insisted that all slots were full due to "heavy rush," which I knew was untrue given the visibly low tourist turnout in Nainital. Interestingly, the moment I requested four tickets, multiple slots suddenly became available. I was offered a discounted rate for the *High Fly* experience, with the clause that it could be downgraded to *Medium Fly* if wind conditions were unfavorable. I paid a non-refundable advance for a 10 AM slot. On the day of the activity, I informed the contact I’d be 15–20 minutes late due to a detour, and was assured it was fine. The real trouble began upon arrival. I was bluntly told I would be shifted to *Medium Fly*—no discussion. Two different staff gave me two conflicting reasons: the on-ground team cited “limited capacity,” while the vendor, speaking from a remote location, blamed “air pressure.” Strangely, the ground team denied air pressure as the issue. When I pressed further, one staff member finally revealed that the *High Fly* site was actually 6 km away—yet I had been brought to the *Medium Fly* location all along, despite booking and paying for *High Fly*. This was a blatant bait-and-switch. Even the pilot confirmed he had been instructed only for a *Medium Fly*, and mentioned that the weather was perfectly suitable for *High Fly*—further confirming that the vendor misrepresented the situation. To make matters worse, I paid 25% more for this advance booking compared to on-the-spot rates, which were readily available. The truth is: there are plenty of operators and pilots available, and they will accommodate you without the need for advance booking—especially given the premium prices involved. **Recommendation: Always go for on-the-spot booking. Do not fall for misleading online offers or so-called “heavy rush” tactics. This vendor operates unethically, and their practices amount to deliberate misrepresentation.**

I've a fear of heights but this turned out to be the most fun and exciting activity I did in the mountains. Safe/Trained Pilots/ Friendly Staff/Reasonable Price! Highly Recommended! Sukhatal Lake, formerly known as a dry lake, was renamed after its water was drained into the Naini Lake. During the summer, it remains dry; however, in the monsoon season, it transforms into a picturesque landscape with lush greenery and water. This makes it an attractive spot for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers who visit to capture its beauty. The area tends to get crowded in June due to the holiday season.
Very splendid place. A movie named "Tikdam" was made on Sukhatal Lake which is available now on Jio Cinema. Must watching film based on environment protection.

No, there is no Tal or Lake...it is totally Sukha or dried up. Yes, once upon a time, there was probably a man made lake, though people say it had a connection with Naini Lake...now a totally vacant place, though restoration work is in progress...may be in future there will be a Tal. .

Nainital Sukhatal is a picturesque lake situated in the charming town of Nainital, in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. Nestled amidst the serene and tranquil surroundings, the Sukha Tal is one of the lesser-known destinations that offer a perfect retreat to those seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Sukha Tal, which literally means ‘Dry Lake’ in Hindi, is a natural freshwater lake that is situated about 3 kilometers away from the main town of Nainital. The lake is surrounded by lush green hills and dense forests, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The Sukha Tal is a popular destination for birdwatchers as it is home to a variety of birds such as white-throated laughing thrush, grey-hooded warbler, rufous-chinned laughing thrush, and many others. Apart from its natural beauty and rich biodiversity, the Sukha Tal also has a significant historical and cultural significance. It is believed that the lake was dug up by the Pandavas during their exile period in the Mahabharata era. The Sukha Tal is also closely associated with the legend of Nal and Damayanti, a popular love story from Hindu mythology. According to the legend, Nal, one of the main characters in the story, is said to have meditated near the Sukha Tal to seek divine blessings for his wife Damayanti. The Sukha Tal is surrounded by several other small lakes and ponds, such as Khurpatal Lake and Sariyatal Lake. These lakes are popular spots for picnics and boating, and offer a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. One of the main attractions of the Sukha Tal is its trekking trails which are ideal for adventure enthusiasts. The trek to the Sukha Tal offers a thrilling experience as it passes through dense forests, rolling hills, and gushing streams. The trek also offers a panoramic view of the Nainital town and its surrounding hills. The Sukha Tal is easily accessible by road from the nearby town of Nainital and can be reached by taxi or bus. The best time to visit the Sukha Tal is during the summer months from March to June when the weather is pleasant, and the natural beauty of the region is at its peak. In conclusion, the Sukha Tal is a hidden gem of Nainital that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and adventure opportunities. A visit to this serene and tranquil lake is sure to rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul, and leave you with a lasting memory of the beauty of the region. READ MORE...
