Restaurant
Restoran Hua Mui JB is a renowned restaurant in Johor Bahru, known for its authentic Hainanese cuisine and old-school charm. Established in 1946, this two-storey coffee shop offers traditional Hainanese-style breakfast and signature dishes like the Hainanese Chicken Chop. The Chef Recommends menu features delights such as Fried Rice with Blue Berry Chicken Chop and Hua Mui Mee.
Even though they have many branches now, we take the effort to come to the original. The queue is bearable. The food are all great. The cutlery are classics, they even use a string pulley to transport food from ground floor to 1st floor. Mostly are authentic Hainanese food. Big portions to satisfaction.

Came here Queue and ordered at 1:10pm but 1:47pm only arrived our foods. At 1:40pm we complained & she sd kitchen very busy. If too long better tell us earlier. I will never come here again. Foods is small portion with the price we pay.

The original Hua Mui is the best. They serve halal food. We ordered quite a few and all taste good. The cockle kuey teow is nice. The polo bun is sedap. Even the hard bioiled eggs are good. The black pepper chicken chop was awesoome too. Just wished it was air conditioned😅. Always think of my late brother whenever I dine in this place. Aunty Siew Phua gave very good service.

Restaurant Review: Hua Mui JB – A Taste of Nostalgia and Flavor If you're visiting Johor Bahru and looking for a place that serves classic Hainanese cuisine with a nostalgic charm, Hua Mui JB is a must-visit. Established in 1946, this iconic restaurant has been serving locals and tourists alike with hearty, old-school dishes that never go out of style. Ambience: Hua Mui's atmosphere is warm and reminiscent of colonial-era coffee shops. With vintage decor, wooden furniture, and black-and-white photos adorning the walls, the setting immediately transports you back in time. The place is usually bustling, especially during lunch hours, but the service remains efficient and friendly. Food: The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Hainanese Chicken Chop – crispy fried chicken smothered in a rich, savory brown sauce, served with fries and vegetables. It’s a perfect blend of Western influence and local flavor. Don’t forget to try their local coffee and kaya toast, perfect for a traditional Malaysian breakfast or tea-time treat. Price: Prices are reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes and historical charm of the restaurant. You can enjoy a fulfilling meal for around RM15–25 per person. Overall: Hua Mui JB is more than just a restaurant – it's a culinary institution. Whether you're here for a quick breakfast, a leisurely lunch, or just to soak in the heritage vibes, Hua Mui delivers a consistently satisfying experience. Highly recommended for food lovers looking to explore the true taste of Johor Bahru.

First visit to Hua Mui. Never tried it because the queues were always freaking long and this time one of the rare times it didn't feel that long and we decided to give it a try to queue. Okay waited for about 25 minutes, probably reasonable? Service was a bit slow initially because so many people paid and left but they didn't allow diners to enter. Perhaps they were a little shorthanded as there were not enough people to clean the tables. Even the food did take some time to come. We ordered via QR and the food took at least 10 minutes to come, for the drinks at least. We already finished everything and wanted to leave and yet our garlic bread with eggs weren't even served yet. The drinks were okay, the Hainan noodles was my favourite dish of the meal. The nasi lemak rice was a bit dry and lacking the coconut taste. The chicken chop was so thin I think we only tasted the chicken skin. The Hainan noodles we loved it and it would be the dish I recommend. Initially was wondering if it was yee mee as it looked like in the pictures. We didn't like yee mee but decided to take a risk and order and turned out it wasn't and the noodles were good and sauce was even better! We used it on the nasi lemak else it was just too dry to eat. And from above we finished the mains and still waited for the garlic bread to arrive. Found the garlic paste to be a little on the salty side but it was a power combination eating with the soft boiled egg. Think it helped to absorb the saltiness and the overall taste was quite good. Not a bad place to eat with reasonable prices. Only gripe you need to have some patience in queuing and waiting for the food.
Matthew L — Google review
Not expected that the toast was too hard, and we waited for the carrot cake for almost 30 mins. Seems like they forgot to cook the order. Overall the service was good, the server also very responsible after we asked our long-waited order. The long queue also need to be considered if you want to dine here.

We enjoyed both the grilled chicken chop and Mee Siam here. They were recommended by friendly Raj! He made our visit here awesome. Will be back!

Bakery
Hiap Joo Bakery & Biscuit Factory, a renowned establishment in Johor Bahru, has been serving delectable baked goods for over 80 years. The bakery is famous for its traditional method of using a charcoal oven, inspired by the baking practices of Hainan in China. Visitors can indulge in an array of treats including buns, cakes, biscuits, and their specialty fluffy banana cake.
We were there to buy take away the famous and delicious banana cake. Theres no dine in at this bakery, only take aways. Though theres a long queue, the service was quick. We bought a total of 15 boxes to give to friends at home. The cake is very soft and moist but not too sweet. Worth the wait, will be back on our next visit.
Amrin J — Google review
Was recommended to come here and try their wood fired buns. I got an order of coconut , still warm from he oven. They were delicious, I will have to go back and get some more and try them with some hot melted butter. The queue can get quite long so take your umbrella to share from the sun.
CHRISTOPHER S — Google review
Located right next to Dona Café, Hiap Joo Bakery is one of those “must visit” spots in JB that everyone keeps hyping up for its legendary banana cake. But honestly? My experience didn’t quite live up to the buzz. The cakes are already pre packed, so you won’t have to queue long. That part’s great. But when it comes to the taste… meh. The banana cake wasn’t very spongy or moist, felt a bit dense and slightly dry. The banana flavor was weak, leaning towards bland, and I couldn’t catch that signature smoky aroma people always talk about from their traditional wood fired oven. To be honest, I really don’t get the hype. If you ask me, Samudera’s banana cake tastes way better . As for parking, it’s quite a hassle ,tight area and hard to find a spot. In short, it’s worth trying once just to tick it off your list, but if you’re chasing real flavor and fragrance, Hiap Joo’s banana cake is more of a miss than a hit. ⭐ Rating: 2/5 .
Siti K — Google review
To me, the banana bread is good, but not amazing. It's probably more famous than it is good, but it is good. Short queue but it moves fast, and you better decide on what you want before you reach the counter so you don't hold up the queue. MYR13 for a box of 10 slices, and they didn't cut it too small, so it's good sized.
Drew — Google review
This store is very popular for both tourist and local because they open for long time ago. I wait among the sun that very hot almost 1 hour. The queue is very long because need to wait them bring the banana cake from another place I think it’s their factory to sell here. I order the banana cake and I think it’s goof for the people who don’t like sweetness taste because it’s completely not sweet different from the banana cake that I have try before. I think it’s delicious in their own way but if you want more sweet banana cake, go to Thailand.
KK — Google review
Buying the banana cake here since it was nearby to the hotel that I stay. There is no parking here so my colleague went to buy on my behalf. Size are ok for the price. Taste wise not the banana cake that I like. The banana flavour kinda flat. Texture are ok. Overall food are ok. Will I repeat? Probably not for me.
Y M — Google review
Best banana bread that i have ever tasted! Perfect taste with affordable price. We should wait around 45 minutes to get banana bread ready and queueing around 15 minutes more to order. But its perfectly fine to get this banana bread. I bought 2 box and bring to Bali on the next day and it still taste so good. Ps: dont forget to bring your umbrella to help you conquer Johor heat 😂
Dian E — Google review
Used to like it so much because it is moist and have our childhood taste. Just went last week and noticed their quality has dropped so badly. Is it due to mass produce now? There are lumps and the cake is dry now. The banana taste is not as strong too. Quite disappointing. I tried once my fren bought in SG already felt dried, tot giving it a chance. Sad to say the quality has dropped. Hope they can improve and make it like the past. I need to find another childhood banana cake replacement d🥹

Restaurant
Located in the old downtown of Johor Bahru, IT Roo Café has been serving its famous chicken chop since 1961. The café is renowned for its Golden Fried Crispy or Grilled Chicken Chop, which comes with a choice of mushroom or black pepper sauce, and is served with coleslaw and potato wedges.
Had the classic chicken chop with black pepper sauce and washed it down with a root beer float. Chicken was juicy and tender. Potato wedges and coleslaw were fresh. Really delicious meal. Can understand why this business has been around for 3 generations. Well done.
Andy — Google review
They seem to have a good following, gets well rated/ reviewed on Google Map, and always crowded during lunch/ meal times. For my experience, it was a weekday afternoon (~2pm), I could walk in and get a table at the aircon section immediately (restaurant was at 5% capacity, if I included non aircon section). It was my first time, so I asked for their signature item, and I was recommended fried chicken chop with mushroom sauce, and I went for the version with 2 fried eggs added. Lunch was served quickly, the fried eggs looked good, they were runny, and went well with the chicken chop. But the chicken chop itself was very average, I don't get the fanfare about it.. everything else like the potatoes and coleslaw were just as average too. Maybe it's just me, I'm sure it's fans would say otherwise.
Leon K — Google review
Come to Johor Bahru and very likely you will see this restaurant as one of the recommended places to eat. Knowing this could possibly be a touristy eatery, I decided to visit nonetheless. I came in the evening and there were much lesser people compared to the daytime I reckon. They offered both indoor and outdoor seatings. The indoor came with very simple decorations emulating kopitiam interior of the past. I ordered a plate of their famous deep fried chicken chop and I opted for their black pepper sauce. I also got a plate of their koay teow cantonese which was basically a wat tan hor. Food didn't take long to be ready and the chicken chop did look rather sizeable with chunks of potato wedges and coleslaw on the side. The chicken chop was prepared with a standard coating of batter which had some light crisp. The chicken meat was tender and moist. The black pepper sauce was decent although I hardly had any taste of black pepper. The chunks of wedges weren't like your typical fries because instead of pillowy soft, the wedges gave a little bit of a tougher texture. Overall this dish scored an average at best in my opinion. Let's talk about the koay teow cantonese. The gravy was of a gooey slurry consistency which is expected with this dish. However I felt that it lacked taste and aroma. Thankfully the koay teow had a stronger aroma with hints of wok fried goodness. Having said that, I still thought that this dish was not the best and I would suggest to give it a skip. This experience here had satisfied my curiosity for their famed food but the overall average taste left me with no urge for revisit.
Boon C — Google review
a must try chicken chop place in JB. No que at all. it was packed but the service was smooth and fast. everything tasted good and huge portions. worth the price. reservation needed for better table spot. bonus points for the peanuts.
Balqis S — Google review
Ordered the grilled chicken chop with black pepper sauce and a hot Hainan coffee. The black pepper sauce was flavorful with a strong pepper kick and paired well with the chicken. The chop was made with drumstick and thigh meat, giving it a nice tender texture. Potato wedges were decent, though the salad dressing was a bit too watery. The Hainan coffee could have been stronger, as it tasted slightly below average. Overall, a decent meal. Worth to come back for the black pepper sauce :)
Jack L — Google review
The mee mamak was really good! Chicken chop was tender and the potato wedges were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside 😋 Small side note: orange juice and horlicks were diluted.
Shannon L — Google review
Food wise, the chicken chop was pretty decent. For drinks, I had iced coffee and it was pretty decent (but doesn't have the strong "kick" to it). Take note, roasted peanut was served by default as you're seated. Be mindful that those are not complimentary....
Zelrick K — Google review
I ordered the lamb chop and was disappointed with both taste and quality. The meat had an overwhelming amount of fat and was extremely oily. The oil itself tasted like it had been reused, giving an unpleasant aftertaste. Instead of being grilled as described, the lamb seemed more like it was deep-fried. The flavor was off as well almost like the meat wasn’t fresh. For the RM 39 price, this dish simply wasn’t worth the money. Even simple night-market stalls serve lamb dishes that taste fresher and far better. Overall, it felt heavy, greasy, and unhealthy, and I couldn’t enjoy the meal.

Restoran Ya Wang is a must-visit for those craving duck meat in JB. Known for its herbal roast ducks, it's a pioneer in this dish. Fans of Dian Xiao Er's herbal roast ducks will be delighted to know that Restoran Ya Wang is the chain's advisor. The restaurant offers generous portions of duck meat, roasted pork, and char siew in a comfortable air-conditioned setting.
ALWAYS GOOD TO COME BACK I’d say this is the only roasted duck place our family loves to dine at. Amazing duck and fast service. The sauce is well mixed with the rice. Other dishes are at a good standard. Not surprised if there’s a long queue during lunch time.
TH C — Google review
Dang gui duck is just amazing. Duck meat is succulent and flavourful, infused with aroma of charcoal smoke! Roast pork was crackling crunchy and char siew was very delicious. 5 star for the food, 3 star for service which is a bit disorganised. Atmosphere is not great with flies attempting to feast on our meat while we waited for the staples to be served. Ordered the sambal petai which was really good too with a lot of wok hei. You can have options of noodles which was really springy and al dente, hor fun was smooth, plain or flavoured rice. The soup looks good too but we did not order. Good value for money. Will be back!
Pamela T — Google review
Roast duck was good. Roast pork dry and normal. But go there all for the duck. RM92 per duck. Need to was about 20mins to be seated.
Lo S — Google review
Had quarter roast duck and quarter plate of char siu and roast pork. Roast duck was juicy and the herbal sauce was yummy! 😋 Char siu and roast pork is ok, not the best in my opinion. Price point is reasonable. Will come back here for the roast duck rice, quite frequently.
Matthew H — Google review
Honestly, there’s nothing to shout about here. Prices are on the higher side, and service leaves much to be desired — the grouchy aunties certainly don’t make you feel welcome. I was told at 11:30am that duck drumsticks were sold out, which was baffling. If you don’t sell drumsticks separately, then don’t list and price them as such on the menu. I was willing to pay for it, but ended up having to order quarter duck just to try the leg. Quite disappointing overall — not planning to return.
Isaac S — Google review
Ordered dry Wantan Mee with a portion of herbal roast duck leg., a bowl of Wantan and a small portion of Char Siew. Duck leg came swimming with sauce. If you are after the crispy type, this is not it. The sauce is not as herbal( Tung Kwai) as I thought but a wee sweet though. Wantan side is respectable. Char Siew is well charred but again wee too sweet. If only the sweetness of the duck sauce and charsiew marinate were reduced by half. However, something is MSG biting at the tip of my tongue. Perhaps, Char Siew sauce? Good crowd and atmosphere !
Kevin T — Google review
Traditional roasted duck in JB. Relocate to new shop which is nearer to main road. First try. Tastes normal and so so for roasted duck. But the vegetable noodle nicer. If you crave for heavy and strong smell of herbal, might not be suitable for you. Mainly attract more Singapore customers to try.
Anique L — Google review
Need to visit sightly early or later to avoid the crowd. Although the duck is roasted, didn’t have the nice skin. The char Siew too lean but the vegetable is good

Restaurant
Kam Long Ah Zai Curry Fish Head is a renowned restaurant located near City Square Mall in Johor, specializing in their signature dish of curry fish head. The dish is prepared with fresh red snapper fish head, cooked in a claypot over strong fire along with generous servings of cabbage, lady fingers, long beans and fried beancurd skin. The restaurant offers three portion sizes with the option of fish steak, head or tail.
🍛 Kam Long Ah Zai Curry Fish Head – On a recent trip to JB, I was searching for a satisfying breakfast when Kam Long Ah Zai popped into my mind. They offer the fish in three cuts: head, body, and tail. We went with the body, and it turned out to be incredibly tender and flavorful. What truly stood out was the crispy beancurd skin and the medley of vegetables—cabbage, long beans, and okra—all beautifully infused with the rich, aromatic curry.

2025.9.5 (Fri) Arrived before 12noon today. No queue + rainy day. I have ate here countless of times and have find the gravy getting less and less lemak. While it still tastes good, it used to taste even better, before the shop expanded to aircon seating. We had the fish tail today. Because it is rainy day, it tastes extra 👍👍👍. I even bought the packed gravy back to freeze. Another bonus we discovered: they have fresh kedongdong!! I will definitely come back here for this antioxidant drink !!
L Y — Google review
Service is quick. The waiting line was surprising short around 1.30 pm. Lunch was pleasant in the air con . Take away is available with the fish uncook and you simply just need to heat up everything that was prepacked. The curry could be spicier. Recommend to add additional fish. Our small pot contain only 2 fish cuts. The bean curd and achar is also additional. Total cost with a drink @ $62/- ringgit.
Dorado4949 — Google review
Absolutely worth the wait! The curry fish head at Kam Long Ah Zai is rich, fragrant, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice and creaminess. The fish is super fresh and tender, and the vegetables soak up all that amazing curry goodness. 😋 The portion is generous and perfect for sharing. The place might look simple, but the taste is unbeatable , truly one of Johor Bahru’s best comfort foods. Friendly service, fast turnover, and unbeatable value. A must-try every time I cross the border!
Leonis M — Google review
Ok, I am not blown away.. in fact, far from it and this was borderline 2⭐ I am not sure if I am having a wrong expectation that the fish would be flavorful in itself, because it is not, and for it to be palatable, every bite of the fish needs to be drenched in it's curry. The curry itself was decent, generous with cabbage and fried tofu skin, lady's fingers. But I don't think I'll drive her just for this.
Leon K — Google review
Kam Long Ah Zai is one of Johor Bahru's most legendary dining spots, attracting massive crowds of locals and Singaporean visitors alike. Its reputation rests entirely on its signature dish: the Curry Fish Head. It's a mandatory stop for anyone visiting JB who loves authentic Malaysian-style curry.

Ordered the fish slices (2 pcs) curry pot for RM41 and it was super tasty. Their service is efficient and friendly. The shop is decently clean and hygienic. Will come again and highly recommend.

Can eat but not worth to wait if it’s crowded. I went there before 11am so not too busy. Drinks are expensive. Kopi O kosong RM4. Soya bean drink RM6. Ordered the fish meat curry for two which is RM41 only two slices of fish meat 😅

Chinese restaurant
Restoran Woon Kiang is a popular street-side eatery known for its kway teow kia, a type of skinny, long rice noodle. Open until the early hours of the morning, this spot allows customers to pick their ingredients at the counter, including braised duck, offal, and braised pork belly. The restaurant offers a variety of sides that pair well with noodles and provides a laid-back and clean environment for diners to enjoy their meals.
Very clean taste, all the ingredients are braised just right, tofu, pork skin, duck, tao pok was very good. If you prefer a more herbal taste, go to the one across the road, San Lou, which is delicious in its own right.

Very authentic local Johor taste of “ Kuey Tiao Kia “ especially the braised duck , tou fu, eggs and internal organs ……..

Famous place. Koay teow noodle is good..for me, the soup is well-balanced and the rest of the dishes, as expected. Not much service and atmosphere, standard as expected from a local establishment but plus point, they have air-conditioning, so it helps as you dine more comfortably. Unfortunately, parking is at the roadside. Price, average close to rm17/pax, not bad?
TK J — Google review
Old-school kway chap for a pretty good price. The meat was cooked alright but the soup and the kway teow are stand-outs. Very herbal and rich. Service was fast but no-frills. Takes me back to how Singapore used to be a few decades ago. Great for a late night pip stop.

Big Intestine = RM9.00 Small Intestine = RM9.00 Pork Belly = RM9.00 1 Bowl of Kway = Don't know Final Bill for a Solo Diner = RM14.50 No Service Charges When people discuss about Famous Eateries in Stulang Laut, THIS place will definitely come up.  Very Highly Regarded and Well Discussed in Food Blogs so much so that it feels like the name Woon Kiang is practically Synonymous with Taman Stulang Laut itself. What this Place is, is basically a Kway Teow Kia Eatery that only opens in the Evenings.  Kway Teow Kia itself is a Classic Signature Dish of Johor Bahru so you can imagine how Famous you must be to be an Eatery that is actually Well-Known for it. Despite its Near Legendary Status, the Actual Place is not a High-End Restoran, but rather an Old Looking Eatery with a Very Weathered Signboard lighted up in a Very Classic 1970s-1980s Style.  Like Most Dedicated KTK Eateries, the Main Cooking Station is right at the Entrance where you also order, with a Large Indoor (Air-Conditioned) Dining Area, although the Air-Con wasn't Cold  when I came during their Opening Time at 5.00pm on a Saturday Night. Even though there were No Big Crowds or Long Queues at their Opening Hour of 5.00pm on a Saturday Night, I noticed Business was still pretty Brisk with Customers streaming in and out as I ate. The Staffs are mostly Myanmar Folks who are Polite and Mostly Keep to Themselves. The Staff at the Cooking Station where you order is also a Myanmar Chap and while he wasn't the Very Friendly All Smiles type, I appreciate that he wasn't Impatient or gave any 死人脸 when I took some time to look thru the Menu and took Photos of it. Although to be fair, it wasn't busy and I was the only person in the Line at that time.  That said, I would recommend to be prepared for what you want so you can order more efficiently just in case there is Bigger Crowd if you come. It took only 1 Min for Everything to be Served up. Due to Text Limit Constraints, I won't go into details describing every Ingredient here. If you are interested to know more, come visit my Facebook Food Blog: "A Solo Singaporean's Guide to JB Foods (And More!)" to view the Full Review with Photos. Conclusion and Closing Thoughts At the Total Combined Price and Final Bill of RM14.50 (S$4.50) although is Slightly More Expensive than San Lou KTK, I feel is still a reasonable price to pay for what you get.  The One Word I can summarize for my Experience at Woon Kiang is that it is "Unusual". They have alot of Unusual Cuts that are not offered in other KTK Eateries. Their KTK Soup Broth tastes Unusual with it tasting more like a Chicken Soup than a Regular Braised KTK,  the Chilli they offer is Unusual, and even their Pricing seems Unusual because what you see on the Pricelist is not actually the Price you pay.  Hahaha Hey I'm not complaining about the Lower Price I have to pay compared to the Menu Price List. The Most Unusual was that Extreme Bitterness that I tasted for the 大肠 Big Intestine.  Still not sure if this is a "Didn't Clean Properly Issue"?  Or if its a "This Particular Cut just taste like this Issue."  Like I mentioned, this Bitterness is so Extreme, it tasted like I Chewed on a Medicine Pill Raw and having that Bitterness linger long in my Mouth. I can't get over that Extreme Bitterness that I tasted in Woon Kiang.  This is the 1st time i'm tasting Pork Intestine that tasted so Extreme Bitter.  Unfortunately, because of this Extremely Unusual Bitterness, I have to drop my Score for this place. This Level of Bitterness is Too Extreme to the point that it doesn't taste Normal. Despite an Average Score, I can still recommend this, although perhaps don't order their Large Intestine 大肠? Thanks for Reading. Come join my Facebook Food Blog: "A Solo Singaporean's Guide to JB Foods (And More!)" to view the Full Review with Photos.

We went crazy happy here from the selection of innards and organ meats with our herbal koay teow soup. We got everything! Whole table full with plates of braised piggy goodness: large intestine, small intestines, stomach, cheek and ears, chicken feet, taukua, duck meat and hardboiled egg.
Joan L — Google review
Oh gosh, other than the light herbal taste which if that’s you’re looking for then by all means this is the place for your kway chap cravings. I find the taste really mild. Other than the decent kway teow kia, the rest can’t really make it. Pork has a smell. Small intestine is rubbery, duck meat, tau kee and egg were just meh… parking is by the road side if you can find any. Else, it’s inside a one way road by the residential lane. It’s a one way street here, to exit you need to head to JB custom or make a turn into Stulang.
Steven L — Google review
Food taste is above average, the chicken feet could have been better marinated. Noodle soup was nice and the winner was the salted/sour vege which was flavorful. Don’t expect superior customer service here, you must know what you want to eat and make a quick order as they are always busy.

Warung Roti Canai Bukit Chagar is a popular breakfast spot that has been serving comforting staples for over 30 years. The menu includes fried bread, mee Siam, fried rice, and noodles. Their specialty is the roti canai made with flour and margarine, known for its crispness on the outside and tender chewiness inside. The aroma of freshly made roti canai will surely make your mouth water as you approach the eatery.
This roadside roti canai serves fresh breakfast with great beef curry! Try their Roti Sarang Burung “Bird’s Nest”which is two sunny side eggs perched on a ring of roti canai or roti prata. It’s delicious with the rich curry gravy!
William L — Google review
A legendary breakfast spot in JB, and it just so happens that’s I’m staying within walking distance from this place. The stall is ok, not the cleanest but not bad at all. In terms of the food, the roti canai offerings are good. I had the sarang burung and the eggs were coked perfectly and the bread was both crispy and fluffy. I had it with the beef rendang which was cooked really well. Drinks are from a different stall and it’s good as well, no complaints. A good breakfast spot, next time I need to try their other offerings such as Nasi Lemak and fried dishes.
Ariff S — Google review
4 stars for the prata but the curry is average. Price is great and food and drinks are served quickly. Environment is hot and will be better if it is cleaner.

Fuss free. Plain prata was already premade sadly so didn't arrive hot, but was decent. Tried the roti canai sarang burung as we saw other customers ordering. As this was made fresh, it came to us crispy and good! Do note the eggs might not be cooked through 100% so avoid if you're particular about this (personally I love it). Curry chicken also had bits of chicken offal in it which was an interesting twist for me. Dal came with bits of vegetables (eggplant/long beans/carrot) in it (but this is a game of luck, and just depends on what's scooped out of the pot- don't expect too many ingredients in your plate). Edit: Missed to mention that the teh tarik was good! Also fyi, it looks close to the checkpoint but it's actually quite hard to get here without a car.

Food is superb. The roti canai Kuah is awesome, sambal is the X factor. Being a warung, the environment is not too comfortable, but you do expect a local vibe.

I recently embarked on a two-hour culinary adventure to savor the much-talked-about dishes at Warung Roti Canal in Bukit Chagar. Let me tell you, it was a journey well worth the effort! Warung Roti Canal is renowned for its Roti Canal, and I can wholeheartedly confirm the hype. The roti canal here is a crispy delight, and what sets it apart is that it's not excessively oily. Each bite was a delightful crunch, and the balance in its texture was impressive. But the magic doesn't stop at the roti alone. What makes the experience even more remarkable is the accompanying curry. This curry is a true standout – rich, fragrant, and incredibly tasty. The flavors complemented the roti perfectly, making it an absolute treat for the taste buds. To add more excitement to my meal, I also ordered their Nasi Lemak. At first glance, it appeared to be a simple dish, but appearances can be deceiving. The taste of their Nasi Lemak was extraordinary, surpassing my expectations. The coconut-infused rice was wonderfully fragrant, the sambal packed a punch, and the condiments were fresh. This Nasi Lemak was in a league of its own, surpassing many others I've tried before. I must admit that the journey to Bukit Chagar was quite a trek for me, but after experiencing the incredible flavors at Warung Roti Canal, I can confidently say it was more than worthwhile. The combination of the crispy Roti Canal and the exquisite Nasi Lemak has left a lasting impression on me. So, if you're a food enthusiast or someone looking for an unforgettable culinary adventure, I wholeheartedly encourage you to plan a trip to Warung Roti Canal. The taste is something that's best experienced firsthand, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Make the effort, and you'll find that this journey is a delightful one for your palate!

Restaurant
Restoran Kacang Pool Haji is a must-visit culinary hotspot in Johor Bahru, renowned for its signature dish, Kacang Pool. This traditional Johor specialty features simmered kidney beans enveloped in a rich tomato-based sauce, often paired with bread or rice. The eatery offers an authentic experience with its hearty blend of fava beans and minced meat, seasoned to perfection with spices.
Visited this place again after a few years and I’m glad to say it still lives up to its reputation! I’ve been here a few times before the COVID period and the taste remains consistently good. We came on a Thursday morning and although there were a few empty seats, the place still had a steady flow of customers, always a good sign. We ordered the Kacang Pool Daging and Mee Goreng Ayam. The kacang pool was just as delicious as I remembered, flavourful , rich and satisfying. What stood out was the thick toast it came with, it was perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I loved it so much I had to order a second piece! The Mee Goreng Ayam was tasty too and nicely balanced with just the right amount of spice. The quality has not dropped one bit and you can tell they still put care into preparing each dish. The service was fast and the place was clean and comfortable for a simple breakfast spot. I’ll definitely be coming back again to try a few more items on their menu. Highly recommend for kacang pool lovers!

Place always crowded and hard to get seating, parking also a bit difficult. Staff were friendly and super fast service. Their signature dish Kacang pool served with sunny side up egg and toasted bread. Taste was so good and tasty with a curry flavour. Other food like lontong kering also very nice and soto was so good - a real Johor taste. Price was so affordable and quite cheap for a regular portion.

Kacang Pool Haji is a must-try! I visited on the weekend — the bean gravy was rich and flavorful, the toast perfectly crispy, and the egg cooked just right. Portions are generous and prices are fair. It can get crowded in the morning, but they serve very fast. The Mee Rebus was tasty, though the gravy was a bit cold — it would’ve been even better if served hot!

Yummmmsssss star for Kacang Pool Haji…. Kacang Pool tasted like a solid bowl of Mexican Chill…. Mee Rebus full of favour…. lontong Basah is solid also….

Kacang Pool Haji. Corner lot shop, limited seating available. Great food selection, small simple and well prepared. The kacang pool is balanced, well slow cook food. The teh tarik is perfectly done, just nice level of sweetness not going to make me a diabetic patient soon. Tapau-ed mihun goreng ayam for dinner. Also had the nasi goreng cina. Charred smell and taste, lightly seasoned, the rice is perfectly cooked, not soggy, well distributed scrambled eggs and mixed vegetables. Great ais jagung. Overall good quality for reasonable price. Will definitely repeat. Good job owner and fnb team of kacang pool haji larkin.

Kacang Pool Kambing = RM11.00 No Service Charge This was an Dedicated Restoran located at the Corner of a Street.  Not Airconditioned but Airy.  Its a Relatively Large Place and I thought the Middle Row of Metal Tables and Bench were particularly unique and gave it a More Factory Canteen sort of look. It wasn't particularly Very Crowded on a Weekday Afternoon when I was there. Staff Service Level could be Improved The Staffs were Acceptably Polite (initially) but also gave off a Very Noticeable Sian Sian Bored 无精打采 type of Vibe that I felt as I observed them going about their work.  Not once in this place did I ever see them even Smile. Especially when I finished my meal and was ready to pay, there were no one at the Cashier Counter and I had to go personally hunt for a Staff only to have one Particular Young Lad groggily gave me a "Sian Sian type of Awkward Blank Stare"  before slowly sauntering to the Cashier Counter to collect my Money. Not sure if its because this is a Lack of Manpower or a Morale Issue or what, but the Service could be improved especially with how Famous this Restoran is supposed to be.  Now, they're not Rude per se, but they gave me the impression that they would much rather be elsewhere doing something else than be in here. Not a Favourable Impression for a 1st Time Customer to the Eatery. Just my 2 Cents Observation. Anyway the Dish was served up quickly in 2 Mins. A Potential Red Flag as you will read what I mean. Kacang Pool Kambing = RM11.00 Due to Text Limit Constraints, I won't go into details describing every Ingredient here. If you are interested to know more, come visit my Facebook Food Blog: "A Solo Singaporean's Guide to JB Foods (And More!)" to view the Full Review with Photos. Conclusion and Closing Thoughts This is their Largest Branch by far, and is the Only Branch I've eaten that offers a Kambing (Mutton)  Variation to their Dip compared to the Regular Daging (Beef) Version. Its slightly more expensive at RM11.00 (S$3.40) compared to the regular RM7.00 (S$2.20) for Daging. I feel this Kambing Version is worth to try because it had More Fattier Cuts and tasted Creamier. That said, although the Meat/Bean Dip tasted Decent, and may be the More Generous among the 3 Branches, the Roti Bakar here was the WORST among the 3 Branches I visited. I am especially disappointed that they didn't even bother to Re-Heat it.  What I got instead was a Cold, Floppy, Oily Roti that even made me lose my appetite for the Entire Dish. Ughh... Service Quality for this Place can also be improved on a Whole.  Although they weren't Rude, they gave off such a Sian Sian 无精打采 type of Vibe, they gave me the impression that they would much rather be elsewhere doing something else than be in here. Together with that Absolutely Atrocious Cold Floppy Roti Bakar that they did not even bother to reheat before serving up to Customers, its obvious there is Zero Effort been made. As such, I'm afraid I'm going to have to give this place my Lowest Score. Its been awhile since I've given my Lowest Score. This Place actually managed to Completely Kill my Mood for this Dish. Thanks for Reading. Come join my Facebook Food Blog: "A Solo Singaporean's Guide to JB Foods (And More!)" to view the Full Review with Photos.

Wah Cai 3-in-1 Chinese Cake is a popular takeaway stand known for its long queues and unique offerings. Their star product, the Fried Chinese New Year Cake with Sweet Potato & Yam, features nian gao sandwiched between sweet potato and yam slices, battered, and fried to perfection. Additionally, they offer deep-fried durian with fragrant filling that's a must-try for those seeking extraordinary food experiences.
The 3 in 1 nian gao is very nice. The fried banana is also very delicious. We were lucky that there wasn't a queue. After we bought, the queue started to form.

Definitely unique for those who like fried stuff. The food is generally crispy and well done and not oily. The durian and cempedak are something not to miss if you are adventurous. As usual be prepare for long queue and parking challenge. Best to eat them whole they are fresh from fryer.

Nice but the yam too thin la bro. Cant really see it. If not, give u 5 star already. Worth to eat
Steven L — Google review
first time trying and they have since increased the price of fried durian from rm4.50 to rm5. the portion justifies that i guess. their fried goods are pretty damn thiccc. i got that and the fried cempedek. i think its best to have it while its still warm. i did not - and they get a little soggy that the oil even leaked through the plastic bag 💀

It was good, but not the best. But the experience of having Durian flavor ones was quite special. As for the cempedak flavor, I would prefer the single bite size.

Best Goreng Pisang in Johor Baru. A lot available. With Kicap. Sweet fruits. Lots of space. Open air. Friendly Mak Cik & family. A must stop
Artisans H — Google review
One of Johor Bahru's most famous Goreng Pisang stalls is located right across from the iconic clock tower. While the prices are slightly on the higher side, the taste more than makes up for it. They are generous with the crispy bits, which add an extra crunch to every bite. Pair their fried bananas with their signature dipping sauce, and it’s a match made in heaven. In addition to Goreng Pisang, they also serve a variety of traditional Malay dishes. Personally, I also enjoy their Nasi Lemak, which is rich in flavor and well-prepared. As for the ambiance, don’t expect much—it’s a roadside stall, so the environment is fairly basic. However, the delicious food more than compensates for it.
Manggo D — Google review
Ayam penyet’s chicken, tempeh, and chilli was great, crispy and tasty, chill is well balanced kind of spicy that goes very well with the food, rice abit too sticky and not fragrant thou. Goreng pisang’s sauce is very tasty with the fried banana, on its own it’s not a very sweet banana. Worth coming back to explore other food they offer. Place is windy and a lot of fans. The curry puff are made/fried fresh very tasty.

Great food and great people...especially patient with a non malay speaking person like me. The kids love the goreng pisang and Teh Ice. Worth the drive and try it out. Back again 8/7/25...same great food and atmosphere.

The best pisang goreng I've ever had. This is my 3rd visit. Never fail to disappoint me. I even bought some back to KL. Not crispy anymore but taste was still good. The freshness and sweetness of the pisang raja was superb! Spacious, cozy when the breeze comes 😌 peak hours are super busy and long Q. If can, try to avoid. The rest is fine...definitely worth the wait! Its a must go place while in JB!

This pisang goreng stall has existed a long time ago. Starting from just a small stall, now they have grown as a remarkable place in JB. Strategic location. Not far from Thistle (formerly Hyatt) Hotel. From this place, we can view the JDT football stadium. Food wise... Just average to me. Price is considered 'a city price'. But still like to visit here due to its 'nostalgic'. Many doves.. they also like bananas 😁.

Do not see anything special about their pisang goreng. Perhaps because they selling pisang goreng for long time so people want to try. Normal taste with higher price. Better get pisang goreng at hawker stall, much cheaper. The only thing good here is they offer seat so you can enjoy the food without need to take away.

Restaurant
Restoran Sekee 司機 Ah Hua Kway Teow 亞華粿條 is a well-established kway teow soup shop with multiple branches, including one near the Johor Bahru checkpoint. What sets this place apart is its use of charcoal to boil the broth, giving it a unique flavor. The stall offers both dry and soup pork noodles with customizable add-ons like oysters and fish maw.
Tried their kway teow soup and was pleasantly surprised. The broth is clear yet full of flavour . It feels so light but comforting. The meats are fresh and tender, and the little touch of seaweed really elevates the overall taste. Simple, hearty, and satisfying. Will definitely come back for another bowl!

The pork noodles here was very good. The soup was made over a traditional charcoal stove, and was very tasty. My noodles included pork slices, liver and kidney. The liver was slightly undercooked, which was great. It's within walking distance from City Square JB, and worth checking out if you're in the vicinity.
Jason O — Google review
The soup is flavorful, and all the ingredients are freshly cooked. The pace inside is slow and calm, and it feels like stepping back into the 80s while enjoying a bowl of noodles.

Traditional way, using charcoal to cook. Upon enter, take a Q number, they will base on Q number to ask for your order later. Recommend to add oysters, additional $2. They will provide a separare chilli sauce (sour & spicy) for the oysters. This round, the livers were thin & over cooked. Pork lards were fragrant & crispy.

Really enjoyed the kway teow both soup and dry versions. The ingredients are so fresh and cooked to the right texture. The soup is so fragrant as they still cook it over the charcoal stove. What a delight!

The kuey teow is very nice. Soup is flavourful. You can have pig liver and pig kidney added which cannot find in singapore anymore! Unfortunate, the place is warm, no aircon cos auntie say they use charcoal to cook. Air con dangerous. Risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Ang P — Google review
Tried both the dry and soup versions of the mixed pork kway teow. The dry version stood out with its rich, flavourful seasoning, while the soup was a little too mild for my taste. The pork slices, liver, intestines, and stomach were all fresh and well-prepared.
Wong — Google review
They cook bowl by bowl, waited 30mins for our turn to order. Overall tastes plain for the soup, for the dry noodles, they used vinegar and chilli sauce instead of dark soy sauce. Personally feel it was overpriced, can give a try if you never had it before, but the chances for me to revisit is very low.

Had the Madurai Fish Curry, Garlic Cheese Prawns, Chicken Ghee Roast and the Squid Fry which went perfectly with hot steaming rice. Totally and absolutely satisfied. The melange of flavours was simply superb - each dish was unique in its own way and perfectly seasoned and spiced - and the attentive service along the way was a pleasant accompaniment. Thanks to Raj and 7 Spice for a wonderful lunch. Will definitely return and can always recommend.

A Gem in Johor Bahru: Our Go-To for Delicious Indian Food My wife and I have been regulars at 7 Spice Indian Cuisine, visiting almost every week, and they never disappoint. And the tandoori chicken is always cooked to perfection. The staff are always polite, attentive, and provide quick service, even on busy nights. A special shout-out to Mr. Raj, who always goes above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. I have a small child, and although I often hear that most curries are too spicy, I was able to enjoy the curry here—it was delicious! Also, as a Japanese person who isn’t very fluent in English, I truly appreciated the wonderful service of the waitress, Ayumi, who kindly showed me pictures of the dishes on a tablet and explained them patiently. The restaurant was also clean, and it’s definitely a place I’d love to visit again!

Review by 🇮🇳 residing in 🇸🇬- Sea food clear soup and chicken soup was good. Briyani was like tamarind rice - totally not worth it. Signature dish cheesy chicken - was a big let down; sort of salted egg but definitely not as delicious as salted egg. Will not try this shop again.

We had such a wonderful experience celebrating my daughter’s birthday here! A big thank you to the restaurant for the delicious birthday brownies and spaghetti . Everything was cooked perfectly. The surprise birthday dance by the waitress made the celebration even more special and memorable. The staff were so warm and thoughtful. Highly recommended for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion!

Amazing pork ribs , have done here since 2023 the standard always uphold , the service staff is always sweet and positive . The atmosphere is very chilling , came back here to celebrate my birthday with my favourite pork ribs. When I think of pork ribs I will always come back here for it. It definitely a best place to eat with friends and family.

Food is yummylicious! Tried the pork ribs, its succulent and juicy, fall of the bone, one of the most delicious ribs i ever had. Also tried the nasi campur, yummy as well, good portion and affordable. Celebrated our 2nd anniversary here! Love the halloween deco as well, so much though and effort go into decorating is this place. Will hope to come back again in the future.

Came here with my husband for my birthday dinner and our first impression is it's very welcoming. Floor staffs are friendly & attentive. Not to mention they are good dancers too. Food is great too. Love the cheese Bomb Burger & Teriyaki ribs. Highly recommended!

If you’re looking for a place that blends cozy vibes with fantastic flavors, Kayuapi is a must-visit. The moment you step in, the warm and inviting atmosphere makes you want to stay a little longer. The highlight for me was the melt-in-your-mouth pork ribs, perfectly tender and coated with an addictive Balinese-style chili sauce – a true flavor bomb. The chicken and pork satay are also spot-on, smoky and juicy, but the chicken satay in particular stole my heart with its rich, aromatic seasoning. Generous portions, reasonable prices, and service that makes you feel welcome – Kayuapi ticks all the boxes for a satisfying dining experience.

We are very satisfied with the meal and very friendly and attentive staff! The food was extremely nice, especially the pineapple teriyaki pork ribs with Bali spice. The set chicken chilli is so fantastic. Highly recommended. I would definitely return again.

Went at 8pm, place was empty with only one other group dining. Requested to seat on the upper floor, but staff said it was reserved for an event (There was no event there even until we left at 930). Fried duck was as dry as sandpaper, with no sauce provided to help moisten it. Pork collar was equally dry, which instead came as pork chops, not sure why the serving of fries on the side. Open kitchen concept in the restaurant, most used appliance was the microwave.

- 1st time exploring this restaurant (it is more of a bar). Went on 15/05/2025. 3 adults - myself, my wife & my father. S - Sick of the usual wanton mee (Yit Foh, Hi Wei), so decided to try new food. - Parked car at KSL Mall & walk to the restaurant ~10 mins walk. (We discovered after the meal that we can park in front of the restaurants - there are 4 parking lots) - Food = VERY GOOD. We ordered 1 chicken set, 1 pork set and 1 classic pork ribs. The pork ribs was very tender. Chicken very good. Comes with side dish. Really delicious & value for money. - total damage is RM135 ~S$41. Considered very reasonable for this quality of food. - Place is very posh & clean. - Toilet very modern & clean. - Overall, MUST TRY. Me and my wife planning to go again & bring our children there too!!!!

Restaurant Teck Sing in Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru is a beloved Chinese restaurant offering over 70 delectable dishes. The menu features signature items like Teck Sing Paper Baked Chicken, Curry Fish Head, Deep Fried Fish with Sambal, and various seafood options. The restaurant provides a pleasant dining atmosphere with air conditioning and warm service at an affordable price.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited this place, it’s always consistently good! The Paper Baked Chicken, Drunken Prawns in Claypot, and Deep-Fried Pork (南乳炸肉) never disappoint. Still as delicious as ever! This time, we tried the Fried Egg with Cai Po and Stir-Fried Beansprouts for the first time, both were excellent. The 菜脯蛋, in particular, was super fragrant with just the right amount of wok hei and perfectly balanced 菜脯. So satisfying!
KX O — Google review
Paper baked chicken is their signature dish and you can immediately taste its selling points. The flavors of the marinate sips right into the chicken whilst maintaining its moisture within. Special shoutout to the 芙蓉 omelette, it’s the first time I tried it with Chinese sausage within. What an interesting combination that I would love to see it more commonly served. Curry fish head though, you should be heading elsewhere if you want a good tasting one.

Been going to this restoran since I was a little kid. It’s still just as good as I remember and really affordable. I love the chicken in paper, fermented pork, baby kailan, hot plate tofu, and sambal kangkong. The chicken is tender and juicy. The baby kailan is delicious. The fermented pork was a pleasant surprise. Will definitely order this next time I go.

Several time visit this restaurant because it just match with my preference. Their paperbaked chicken is so tender and the rich flavour of chinese spices soaked into the meat, so yummy.. Enough for 3 person.. Just one thing that concern me is the spice soup inside the chicken is too little 🤏.. I like how they cook the vegetable.. Simple yet delicious.. Fresh and crunchy hahah.. Nice place to go to have a dine with your fams
Elvina A — Google review
Long-established restaurant and still surviving. The paper-baked chicken is well-known for its very well-infused herbs into the chicken. Chicken is very tender but the herbs don’t seem to be potent enough, I feel. The Teochew-style steamed fish is fresh and the “soup” is tasty: that plumy-saltiness with sliced ginger exudes umami. We had the pork “nam-lu” too. Lightly deep-fried with 5 spices is best to dip each pork piece into the nicely blended sam al belachan. The sambal kang kong is not oily which is good but it can do with a bit more spice. The kang kong still retains its crunch though, which means it is not over-cooked. The tea we ordered in a pot was Tie Guan Yin —- the tea grade is of a good grade. The restaurant has that retro charm, not instagrammable but it’s authentic.
GK T — Google review
Queue moves fast although long. We were quickly given a table and we ordered the following. Paper chicken - nothing special, just herbal chicken and meat is soft. Drunken prawn - prawns are okay, soup cannot drink. Curry fishhead - I think curry is good but fish might not be fresh. If they steam the same fish used you might tell. But my friends cant tell. Hakka fried pork - okay tasting. Fried squid - calamari is okay but not worth the price. The plum sauce taste weird with it. Rice - my bowl of rice too soft. Others okay.
William O — Google review
No reservation allowed. Queue on spot. Waited no too long as it was a weekday. Ordered 5 dishes. 2 signature dishes; curry fish head and paper wrapped chicken. Such a disappointment. The fish head was too small and broken up easily in the clay pot. Hardly had any fish meat in it. Not worth the price of RM48. Better off having this dish in any local coffee shop in Singapore having promo price at $15. Paper wrapped chicken was just a little too dry. Ended up certain parts of the chicken a little tough instead of tender. Not to mention that the chicken is not that big. However, the sauce was tasty but didn't have much herby flavour. Drunken prawns were overcooked and tough. IMHO, the prawns were not thoroughly thawed before cooking; never mind they were not fresh prawns. Nevertheless the soup was herby and tasty. The 2 veg dishes were average. The only plus point was that this place is air conditioned. Overall, this place is below 4.0.

Zainals Place is a popular spot known for its Mee Rebus, with a history dating back to 1918. The dish is praised for being less starchy yet retaining the traditional gooey finish. Additionally, they offer variations like stewed sheep bones and serve other dishes such as coconut milk, Malay noodles, and rice. Customers appreciate the authentic taste and cleanliness of the place despite slightly higher prices. The friendly staff and fresh food make it worth the cost.
Succulent mutton that will melt in your mouth. Paired with steaming hot rice. Happy tummy. Price wise still acceptable not as scary as rumors mentioned. I had mutton, fried chicken, one vege, rice and big cup of iced teh c, all for Rm24.50

Drawn in by the constant crowds, I decided to try this eatery's famous Mee Rebus (RM9). The classic version arrived quickly, topped with unique, golden crispy fritters. However, while the presentation was appealing, the gravy's flavor balance didn't quite hit the mark for me, and the portion was a bit modest. Despite this, service was impressively fast at lunchtime, and I easily found a seat. While not my top pick for Mee Rebus, it's a decent option for a quick, convenient meal.

The best beef rendang I've ever had. Soft and tender, not oily, flavour-packed. The sayur lodeh looked weak, but was also excellent. Mee rebus was not bad, very old-school taste. Teh tarik good too. Came on a Tuesday around 11ish. Only 3 tables occupied so was very peaceful. Place is very clean. Service was friendly and polite. Prices affordable albeit a little on the high side, by Malaysian standards.

While my car was being fixed nearby, I tried Zainal Place for breakfast. It's a simple local spot with tasty food. I had the Soto Bihun, nice chicken broth with noodles. The Mee rebus was good too, thick noodles in sauce. Both were affordable. Fast service, basic setting. Parking's a bit hard, but worth it for the food. I'll come back next time I'm in JB!

Zaituna Restaurant مطعم زيتونة is a delightful culinary haven that transports you straight to the heart of the Middle East. With its inviting ambiance adorned in exquisite decorations, this buffet-style eatery offers an array of authentic Arabian dishes that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. From succulent kebab sandwiches and Chicken Shawarma to the flavorful Kofta and smoky lamb mandy, every dish is crafted with care and tradition.
Full of flavor! The meat is fresh and juicy, the rice is perfectly cooked and rich with spices, and everything else just hits the right notes. This place is great for group or family dinners, the colorful decorations and unique seating area make the atmosphere even more lively. I’d suggest booking and ordering in advance if you’re coming with a group since it can get busy. Parking is also easy and plenty.

Dined here before so decided to iftar here and managed to get a reservation 2 hours before iftar. Decided to go for the set instead of the buffet as we did not want to eat too much. The set for 2 is RM80 before tax. Mashallah the portion was more than for 2. The shawarma was look simple but when you have fasted the whole day, it was tasted more than simple. The main came with 3 types of rice and a portion of lamb and chicken. The kunafa was the prefect finish for the Iftar here. Will definitely be back inshallah.

Good food and nice ambience. This restaurant is devided to 2 parts being combination of 2 shops. Upper floors are private dining for big groups, but sometimes also accommodate over crowded customers. Very disappointed with the lamb shank as the meat don't tear and fell from the bone. Outside of the lamb shank was tough although the inside was just ok. Served with three types of rice n didn't appeal to me at all. The rice were not served warm. Did not finish the lamb shank n rice leaving alot behind But I like the Arabic tea although the small cups were not clean n we requested these to be replaced. The teapot was another issue as it was difficult to pour the hot tea when this teapot ear was badly positioned n burnt your finger n slipped away. Had tried the dessert n just so so. Awfully, the plastic table cloth was just annoying n a nuisance as it was rather messy trying to keep this thin plastic sheet in place when heavy objects (plates n other cutlery) were placed over it Will be my first and last visit to this place!!! Google review was misleading in rating this place as above 4.5. It should be only 2 (pushing your luck) in my opinion I had tasted better Arabic food elsewhere n felt very disappointed as this had ruined my dining experience.

Great ambience! Lamb Mandhi is my favourite! Lamb Kofta was very nice too! The reselle drink is my all-time favourite! This place reminds me a little bit of Mecca & Medina! The lamb mandhi is DEFINITELY one of the best I've tried throughout the Arabian restaurants here in JB, and I dare say, even in Singapore! The kunafa & the widest range of baklava is a must-try!!! I especially LOVE the baklava!!! Yumms! Of course, price-wise, almost every dish & drink is reasonably-priced & on-point! Service is great as the staff is generally friendly. The bosses are very kind & generous with gifting salads for appetiser and kunafa & baklava as desserts quite regularly, and even offering me a friendly discount off almost all of my bills during my regular visits there. A highly recommended place for all Arabian, Lebanese, Yemenese, Mediterranean, etc foodies!!! A must-try whenever you're in JB!!! Yummilicious!!! 😋😋😋 Have I made you hungry already? So, what are you waiting for??? Come on down NOW!!!

Nestled along Jalan Dhoby, Kedai Minuman Kok Yow Yong is a charming herbal tea shop steeped in over a century of history. Run by two dedicated sisters, this quaint establishment offers freshly brewed herbal tea for just RM1.00 per glass, allowing patrons to choose between the traditional bitter version or a sweeter alternative. With the recent heatwave, it's the perfect spot to cool down and enjoy a refreshing drink that has been cherished through generations.
We read about this cooling tea stall and since we are a little under the weather, we decided to walk over and give it a try! Manned by 2 friendly ladies, we were recommended the sweetened version for the family. The drinks were refreshing, easy to drink and affordably priced at RM3. It’s well liked by the young and old.

Please avoid this shop by all means. I am really concerned about hygiene. They're ants running on two table. The drinks taste weird, very diluted and oversweetened (maybe this is the way to cover up).

Was recommended to this spot last year and was highly skeptical. Never heard of chrysanthemum tea as an effective flu remedy. Had the fortune to try the famously bitter brew. Miraculously, after just one serving, I recovered, despite a week of western medication doing nothing. Tracked the place down again in March 2025, only to realize too late that they don’t accept e-payments. Left empty-handed, but the aunty was kind about it. Definitely coming back for this miracle tea soon!

1 Cup of Bitter Herbal Drink = RM3.00 This place was recommended by some Food Blog. Apparently over 100 years old and run by 2 very Elderly Sisters in a very "Hole in the Wall" type of shop that sell Herbal Tea. One is more friendly and chatty while the other for some reason had a permanent scowl on her face. The friendly one keeps recommending me to add some "Powder" for an extra RM1.00 that can help with further reducing "Heatiness" which i politely rejected. I'm already taking a risk with a drink that I don't even know what ingredients goes into it and i certainly will not add some unknown "Powder". As for the Tea itself, I have a good tolerance for Bitter Herbal so I took it. No kidding this Bitterness is like "Smack in your Face type of Bitterness". Singapore's Bitter Herbal Teas cannot even hold a candle to how bitter this is. If you are the adventurous sort that is open-minded to trying a very sus looking herbal tea, feel free to give it a go. If not, feel free to skip it if you're not comfortable with it. Thanks for Reading. Come visit this shop if you are feeling a little bit feverish or having a slight flu or cough. The lady boss will subscribe some "bitter but very effective" tea for you to consume. But take note that it is not an elixir or magic potion. 😊😊😁😁 Can consume this bitter tea even if you are in the pink of your health. Will help you to cleanse your internal after drinking it even if you're not feeling unwell. (That's what the boss told me) 😄😄😄😄 Highly recommended.

Tosca Italian Trattoria is an authentic Italian restaurant located on the 13th floor of DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru. The restaurant offers a contemporary take on traditional Italian cuisine, with a focus on wood-fired specialties and an extensive antipasto table. Guests can enjoy magnificent views of the Straits of Johor while savoring rustic yet modern Italian dishes.
Decided to come to this restaurant to celebrate Mother's Day this year. My mum and I just went Italy for holiday one week before this meal, and funny comment from my mum, she rather eat in this Italian restaurant in Malaysia than those in Italy, the price there is not reasonable at all 😂😂 the pan-seared Halibut is fantastic and we like the Seafood Risotto too. Special thanks to Syaqirah for the recommendation. My mum doesn't like cheese, she carefully choose a few dish that fit our taste and we like all the dishes very much. This is truly a hidden gem in Johor Baru. Located on the 13th floor of Hilton Hotel, this Italian restaurant serves really amazing authentic food. I was absolutely blown away. Everything was cooked to perfection and there was a Quattro pizza where you get four flavors on a single pizza!

Had a fantastic dinner at Tosca Trattoria Italiana during our stay at the DoubleTree Hilton. The restaurant delivers authentic Italian flavours in a really nice setting. The pictures tell a thousand words - the food quality was genuinely impressive and easily comparable to the good Italian establishments in Singapore. Every dish we ordered was well-executed with authentic flavours and excellent presentation. What I really liked was the open kitchen where you can watch the pizza being prepared. The kids were fascinated watching the chefs at work - great for them to observe and appreciate the art of pizza making. The whole ambiance is nicely balanced between classy and welcoming, with thoughtful lighting and wine displays that give you that proper Italian trattoria feel. The restaurant works really well for family dinners, romantic evenings, or private functions. Portions were generous and the quality justified the pricing for a hotel restaurant. If you're a Hilton Gold member, you'll enjoy a generous 25% off the bill, making it even better value. Will definitely return when we're back in JB. Highly recommend for anyone seeking quality Italian cuisine in Johor Bahru. Note: Service too was excellent!

Chez Papa French Bistro and Wine Bar is a top choice for authentic French cuisine in Johor. The restaurant offers a daily menu featuring plats du jour, with the sampler being highly recommended for an immersive experience. Notable items include steaks, beef dishes, and a variety of fish options. The cozy interior creates a comfortable environment to savor the amazing food prepared by skilled chefs.
We had an absolutely delightful dining experience at Chez Papa French Bistro and Wine Bar in Johor Bahru. From the moment we stepped in, the warm, rustic atmosphere transported us straight to a cozy bistro somewhere in France. We started with the mushroom soup and escargots — both beautifully done. The soup was creamy and earthy, full of depth, while the escargots were buttery, garlicky, and rich, just as they should be. For mains, we ordered the steak, seafood tomato spaghetti, and baked fish. The steak was cooked perfectly to our requested doneness, tender and juicy. The seafood spaghetti was packed with fresh seafood and a rich, tangy tomato base — a great balance of flavors. The baked fish was delicate, flaky, and beautifully seasoned. To end the night, we had their signature crepe, which was simply divine — soft, buttery, with just the right amount of sweetness. Truly outstanding food across the board. It’s clear the chef takes pride in delivering quality, authentic French cuisine. Will definitely return for another memorable meal.

Located along Jalan Tebrau, JB. Its along a row of shop houses and smaller hotels. Serves French food, which was quite delicious. Started with Onion Soup - nicely cooked and balanced in tastes. We had their Lamb, which was cooked nicely, soft and tender. Their Fish came with frangrant rice, topped with a nice sauce. We had 3 Shrimp dishes. Appetiser was simple Shrimp with sauce. Their BBQ Shrimps were fresh, juicy and nice - i recommend !!! A mixed seafood with cheese completed the shrimps list. They serve a nice variety of wines ... we had the Malbec, which was reasonably priced and went well with the food. A cosy place for couples, families and groups. Staffs were very helpful and attentive.

Good food and great service! We didn’t even know there was an authentic French spot hidden among the shophouses in JB until we stumbled upon it. Decided to give it a try and had escargot, scallops with prawns, and a cheesy potato dish (forgot the fancy French name 😅). Food and drinks were really good, a little on the pricey side, but honestly worth it. Probably the closest you’ll get to proper French food here, with a slight fusion twist. Just a heads-up: they do serve alcohol, but if you’re particular, you can just avoid it. Overall, highly recommend!

Hot pot restaurant
Restaurant
If you're a fan of Chongqing-style grilled fish, then Fat Fish 肥鱼 is an absolute must-visit in Johor Bahru. This vibrant restaurant specializes in seafood, offering a delightful array of dishes that highlight the ocean's bounty. The Seafood Pots are particularly popular, brimming with an enticing mix of crab, prawns, clams, scallops, squid, and abalone simmering in a flavorful broth.
Six of us dined here and ordered the seafood pot with pumpkin soup and the orange rough fish pot with fish soup. We all enjoyed the meal very much! Both dishes were excellent, but special praise goes to the pumpkin soup base and the orange rough fish, really delicious. If we could have the fish with the pumpkin soup, that would be the best combo 😅 Highly recommended!

Really fresh seafood — probably one of the better spots in JB if you’re craving seafood. The place can get a bit crowded during dinner, so best to make a reservation or come early. Price-wise it’s slightly on the higher side for JB, but still reasonable for the quality you get. Overall, great for seafood lovers who want something fresh and well-prepared. Would definitely come back.

First time here on a Friday evening for dinner and was easy to find a table. The seafood platter was nice especially the fresh prawns. A generous portion of Lala clams and scallop. Will be back to try other seafood.

I find it odd saying that this is one of the best eats in JB. I should be mentioning bak kut teh, paper wrapped chicken, assam fish head or the likes .. but this has left a great impression. Ok, the place opens late (no lunch), and I arrived around 9pm on a weekday with the place under 50% capacity. Immediate seating and order. There were ample parking lots by the road/ around the restaurant. Since it was my first visit, I received recommendations and ordered a 金目鲈 🐟 in their signature 胡椒猪肚汤, with add ons of cabbage 🥬 and lotus roots (which they messed up and gave me potatoes instead). Anticipating that this could work like hotpot, I added a portion of beef (other pork options available too). The visual of the dish was not as 'intimidating' as Tanyu or other SG equivalents of 烤鱼.. and I find that refreshing. Now, the soup is the bomb 💣 I have many a great memories of such soup recipes from Hong Kong's 坤记 豬骨煲, to China's 劳王 胡椒猪肚汤 hotpot soup base.. and this was a very competent rendition. The barramundi 金目鲈, as you would expect, got a mud taste, not everyone is against/ for it, but I'll try the snapper next time (pricier). The fish itself was sizeable, fresh, and well cooked. Unlike the heavy flavors of spice and mala on a grilled fish, this is a lot more 'refine'. Yes, the kitchen gave me potatoes instead of lotus roots, but it went well with the hotpot and slowed cooked till a mushy state at the end, which made both the potato nicer, as well the soup. The cabbage is a must have, it adds sweetness to the soup and very nice by itself in the soup's flavor. The beef was quite forgettable in my opinion, but I might still go for their pork options in the future. My family has a customary style to end such meals, which is to make a 泡饭 out of it. So, adding the brilliant soup base over a small portion of rice, it was super. Now, RM 120 for this meal not exactly an economical dinner, but it's absolutely good value. I'll be back with a gang the next time. Please don't drop your high standards :)

The signature pork stomach soup is really goooood!! Thick and flavourful soup broth Fresh ingredients, generous portion Fried clams & nanru pork is yummy too! Will definitely be back again 😋

In my waiting list for quite a while. Finally I tried it. Based on recommendations pig stomach soup based are their signature. For us don’t eat organ choose to have little spicy for Sichuan Mala. Different varieties of fish can choose. Can add on sides dishes as well. Recommended to come. Hard for me to returned to that restaurant if the taste doesn’t match my requirements. For fat fish definitely will be back.

Great service, took note of the detail at booking also! Had a wonderful dinner with my family here! Nice atmosphere, can slowly enjoy and eat, no rush!

Our group of 16 ordered two large servings of seafood + sea bass in pig tripe soup. It was an excellent choice as the peppery and concentrated stock complemented well with the very fresh seafood. Among the diners was a friend from Melbourne who does fishing and he was impressed with the freshness of the seafood. In the pot were prawns, crabs, clams, abalone, sea bass, scallops, and squid. We chose noodles for the starch and ordered fresh greens to accompany the dish. The soup was frequently refilled each time it ran low.

Italian restaurant
Gianni's Trattoria is a charming Italian restaurant that strikes the perfect balance between casual and elegant dining. Located in Johor Bahru, it offers a delightful experience with its modest yet sophisticated interior and a menu featuring classic Italian dishes at reasonable prices.
Finally made it here for lunch after reading so many positive reviews about the value-for-money Lunch Set — and it truly lived up to the hype! We started with the Insalata, a beautifully plated appetizer of thinly sliced tomatoes paired with creamy bocconcini cheese — light, fresh, and flavorful. For mains, we chose the stone oven-baked pizza and the medium-rare Black Angus flank steak — both were well-executed and delicious. The steak, in particular, was tender and cooked to perfection. To end the meal, we enjoyed two desserts: the Tiramisu, which was classic and rich, and the Ricotta Hazelnut Cake, which was delightfully nutty and not overly sweet. We also ordered a Cappuccino and a Latte — both were decent, though we would recommend an extra shot if you prefer a bolder coffee flavor. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quality Italian lunch in JB — great food, generous portions, and excellent value for money!

Chanced upon this place and decided to try - super glad I did! Lunch deal was extremely value for money, food served tasted amazing as well! Loved everything from the our three course meal, especially our mains - carbonara and angus steak~ Tiramisu is one of the better ones I have tasted as well!! A real hidden gem. Server was lovely and willing to accommodate to my special request in terms of food.

The restaurant has a cozy, welcoming vibe with warm lighting and a homely interior. Service was friendly. The steak we ordered was absolutely perfect — juicy, tender, and seasoned just right. It had a lovely sear on the outside while staying perfectly pink and moist inside. The lamb shank was another highlight: fall-off-the-bone tender with a rich, comforting sauce that paired wonderfully with the creamy mash. We also had pasta, grilled fish with seafood, and finished with a tiramisu that was light, creamy, and not overly sweet — a delightful end to the meal.

Great Ambience and I love their music! Great Service too! They have house wine by glass. Food was tasty but cheese in pizza was a bit salty for my liking. Pity they don’t serve pork so there isn’t any Prosciutto or Porchetta. Parking can be a problem if you are unlucky. Gotten a lot with 5mins walk.

We had set lunch. Food was excellent, surpassing our expectations. Baked fish was tender while the medium-done beef was succulent. The hearty pumpkin soup paired perfectly as an appetizer with the main dishes

Tried the two course set, which started with classic table bread served with olive oil. I had the minestrone in bianco, a lighter white version of the traditional soup, and the Australian beef flank as the main, which was nicely cooked and full of flavour. Also added a plate of fusilli al pesto on the side. Simple, fresh, and well executed. Solid meal overall.

Honestly, I want to gatekeep this place so bad because it's something else that I have ever experienced. Phenomenal experience both in service and the menu itself. If you have the chance to try the burata, do not hesitate. It's the best menu item I have ever taste. The server was very considerate even for out of place new patron like me that convinced me to come again in near future. On the side note, the only thing I would criticise is the cheese filling for the chicken dish that I bought, petto Di pollo. Unlike cheese filling in cordon bleu that is melty all the way, the choice of cheese for this is off for me. In the first few bite, sure it's melty. But towards halfway into the dish it congeal, harden, and not that pleasing to taste. I would either consider other type of cheese or ditch it entirely as the chicken can be shine by itself. Other than that little nitpicking of mine, I would absolutely love to come again. P.S. I would love if they could offer me extra bread next time. It's was so good that I regret to hobble it up so fast before the appetiser came

We came to Gianni’s to celebrate my 52nd birthday 2 days ago with my parents and family and dine on a 3 course italian meal. The restaurant ambiance was nice and the food was good. We ordered 2x soups, 2 salads, 3x flank steak mains with spinach and potatoes and a large pizza. The lady owner played with our little boy and chatted with us while we dined. At the end of the meal, they presented me with an assortment of 3 cakes with a scoop of ice cream and a single candle as my birthday cake. As we get older, all we need is to celebrate this special occassion with your family.

Chakra Restaurant is a unique dining spot located in the heart of Johor Bahru, housed in a classic pre-war colonial bungalow that exudes privacy and a homely yet romantic ambiance adorned with Indian art.
This is a landed house restaurant. The food is homely and the kitchen is open to all the visitors. Glad we found this hidden gem that serves best Indian food in JB. The place and the people make you feel home. This is run by a family in memory of their grandmother who loved feeding people. Thanks to them for keeping the tradition alive and serving the best authentic food ! Will definitely go back again!

Food was good. North Indian taste buds satisfied. I have had better but that doesn’t mean things bad. Finding such good North Indian food in JB is in itself a big deal. Very few good ones there.

Chakra Restaurant truly exceeded my expectations! The attention to detail, especially in separating vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, is commendable and greatly appreciated. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. Whether it was the rich curries or the perfectly spiced tandoori items, every bite was a delight. The ambiance was inviting and perfect for a relaxed dining experience. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, making the overall visit even more enjoyable. I highly recommend Chakra for anyone looking for a fantastic meal in a welcoming environment. I can’t wait to return!

This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. Situated on landed property that had unique ambiance. We had some time to spare at Johor and searched for a good restaurant to take a break. I was pleasantly surprised to find this unique food joint that served authentic and decent quality indian food. More importantly we could park car within the premises that was a welcome sign. We had Bhajji (veg fritters) and Achari Prawn along with Masala Chai. Service was excellent and quick. Tea was awesome and i made a repeat order. They were generous to add some additional quantity of tea on my repeat order of Masala Chai . Achari Prawn was succulent and tangy. The mango chutney was a killer. Apart from that we took take away of Naan and Chicken Hyderabadi and Karaikudi Mutton curry. Flavours were distinct and enjoyable. Will definitely go back to this restaurant on my next visit to Johor .

“Dear Chakra Restaurant Team, We recently dined at your restaurant and really enjoyed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 the cosy bungalow setting amidst busy JB city. Prices are slightly on the higher side, but the ambience and atmosphere made it worthwhile. What stood out the most was your staff they were truly first-class 🌟 very attentive and professional, right from the parking queue communication to the table service. It left a very positive impression on us as guests. One small point for new visitors: the entrance road is narrow and may cause concern for parking. However, we found an empty land just 100m away, next to the nearby Petronas station, where guests can park and walk. Perhaps a small sign or note on your social media could reassure first-time visitors. Thank you for a lovely dining experience, we will be back again.” ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The place is quite and away from the crowd. The ambiance is good and good options are more. They have limited options for vegetarian starters and a lot of variety for meat options. Staff is polite and serve well. The naan and roti are soft, they are served in casserole to keep them soft and hot. They provide chutney with Papad which is spicy and tasty. Recommend this place for Indian food in Johor Bahru JB Taste is 9/10, Cleanliness 9/10.

This place was visited in 2019. The food is simply mouthwatering and, most importantly, flavorful. There is a wide variety of food to select. We ordered the country goat biryani, which was outstanding. Likewise, the other dishes were excellent. The manager and staff were extremely attentive, and the food arrived quickly. The setting is that of a traditional Indian home. The building is historically significant and well-designed for the customer. The price is slightly higher than average, but well worth it!

We’ve been frequent patrons of Restoran Chakra JB and have always enjoyed the food – no complaints there. However, our recent experience was extremely disappointing and left a bad taste. While we were still enjoying dinner with family, the staff came over not once, not twice, but three times to ask us to settle the bill. It was incredibly rude and inconsiderate, especially since we weren’t lingering or overstaying. I even had to interrupt my meal and go wash my hands just to pay because they were so insistent – apparently, they wanted to close the account for the day. It’s very poor service to pressure customers this way, particularly regular ones. A restaurant experience is not just about food, but also hospitality – and this was seriously lacking. Sadly, this will be our last visit to Chakra. No customer deserves to be treated like this.

The Replacement - Lodge & Kitchen is a charming cafe located in Johor Bahru's old town, offering a relaxing and laid-back ambiance. The white-washed exterior and minimal decor give it a touch of Melbourne's cafe culture. The menu features an array of brunch options such as French toast, eggs benny, and croque madame, as well as all-day items like crab mentaiko aglio olio and soft shell crab bao.
The food is decent but be warned that it takes very long to be served (~30min). Visited on a Saturday afternoon so that might be the reason. The staff are very friendly and warm. Service is fantastic. The coffee is very good as well. Believe they use common man coffee roasters beans. I had a coconut latte which was 10/10. Will visit again when it’s not too packed and if I’m around the area

Had an amazing time at The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen! All the food we had was really good, the vibes and service spot on, and it was such a pleasure connecting a little with Sukee, who has been running this place for 10 years. Had breakfast here and had the eggs benedict and salmon bagel. Both dishes tasted great! Plating is amazing too. Ordered a tiramisu to finish off the meal, tasted great as well. Coffee is a must try here since they use their home blend beans which tasted so differently that we loved it! Will come back to try other dishes.

I ordered a mocha from the "Classic" menu and it was underwhelming at best. I suggest ordering from one of the premium coffee options instead. The SSC Bao was quite enjoyable with a strong mustard based sauce. The overall atmosphere of the place is very charming. Definitely a nice place to chill.

Very good restaurant/cafe, was surprised it wasn't full during weekend lunch peak hour for the relatively high standard. Ordered the eggs benedict with salmon, tomato soup, (and a side scrambled eggs to hit minimum for klook voucher). The churros was free as it came with the voucher. Churros was probably the best we ever had - texture was perfect and not too sweet. Tomato soup was above average and eggs benedict was above average too. Service level was okay, the staff mixed up our order and was not great at explaining the add-ons on the menu. Restaurant was nice and clean with very good ambience.

The Replacement was one of my regular cafes to visit when coming to JB since many years before. However, noted from this recent visit that the menu was updated and there is no more aglio olio (used to be crabmeat aglio olio many years back if I remember correctly, and to smoked duck aglio olio in recent years) in the updated menu. The aglio olio (to me) was the classic dish that is a must order when dining at The Replacement. Ordered French toast and duck confit (new on the menu) in this visit instead. The French toast is different from what we used to have (thicker toast somehow?) and the duck meat was dry/tough, not what I would expect from a duck confit dish. The French toast was acceptable I guess but would advise not to order the duck confit. Quite a disappointing visit (without the aglio olio) and with the ample choices around, I’ll likely not be back in the near future.

The food was quite good and the brownies is also nice, but just a bit too sweet ,and the breakfast plate was nice also .But the service is quite bad because we waiting fr the food come from 1030-1130 almost 1hour. If you're on the hunt for an exceptional wantan mee experience, look no further than Ho Seng Kee at Johor Bahru City Square. This beloved eatery has been delighting patrons since 1936, making it a nostalgic gem in the heart of Malaysia. What truly sets Ho Seng Kee apart is their commitment to crafting fresh noodles daily using a special blend of duck and chicken eggs along with high-protein wheat flour.
I dont know this place. I got dragged by my girlfriend to try this place WHICH I QUOTE: "baby u have to try this place omg they sell wantan mee!" No shit girl the name literally says Ho Seng Kee Wantan mee then what else can they sell? Chendol meh? After realizing my girlfriend was being an idiot, we went there and found ourselves a seat. So being a skeptical guy, I ordered the dry normal, the soup normal, and my girl ordered the premium, cos she is the princess so premium is the way to go. Food came and i have to say as a wantan mee expert, the Charsiew from the premium blew me away. Noodles is above average, not the best but its enough to produce a tear from my eyes. I noticed my girlfriend was pigging out on her plate on wantan mee and produced noises like ooohhh and ahhh which i dont hear during our intimate moments in the bedroom. as we ate, my vision became blurry as I realized the food was so good that my tears came out of my eyes. still ho seng kee as established during 1963. The taste was memorable as I fought during World War 2 and you dont get old traditions like that being passed down. we cleared everything, so its safe to say this place is recommended. Get the premium. Get the XXL. its good. if not good send it to me I'll eat it for you.

The food here was great love their prawn dumplings the skin was soft and silky best dumplings I’ve ever had in jb. The noodles were normal tho in my opinion the e price doesn’t suit the food quality but good service. There char sure was normal too in my opinion but love their minced pork, seasoned well and their noodles were flavourful with good amount of oil.

We heard that the famous Ho Seng Kee is still around and decided to head down for a nice lunch of Wantan Mees. The last time, Ho Seng Kee was situated at City Square, a popular mall connected to the customs. The restaurant was very well renovated and was having even more renovations to further expand and enhanced their place. Business was very good then and was frequented by many tourists. A friend (Prof) was even collaborating with them to incorporate robot waiter at that time. Unfortunately, covid strikes when they were having all these endeavors. Their ambitions were crushed and they have to start anew at this smaller shophouse, located across Plaza Pelangi and thankfully, not that far from the customs. Enough of the long-winded story. On the food, it’s standard still about the same. We ordered the following: Gourmet Wantan Mee XXL + Premium Char Siu Mee XXL + Kopi O Kosong + Pu Er tea. It’s my first time trying the premium char siu and I like it. The meat is crunchy and the fat is just at the right proportions. The Mee is at best, ok. If they have more eggs in the mee, I believe it would be better, but still, it wasn’t bad. I would come back again for sure. The business is still good here and I believe they would make a good comeback soon! All the best!
Ryan Y — Google review
Ho Seng Kee is in its 2nd generation going in third. From its main outlet in Jalan Meldrum in the early 1070's, it has relocated itself many times, from Meldrum to Century Gardens to City Square and now back here. Their signature offerings are Wantan Mee and Soup dumplings, but with the new innovative and creative generation, a lot more snacks and desserts are introduced in their menu. The taste is the same after all these years - noodles are chewy, dumplings are big, soup is umami-licious!!. My only grouse in not giving them a five star is:- 1. Hope they would put a little veggie(choy sum) in their dry noodles. 2. Leave the dumplings in the soup, not on the noodles. It gets hard and cold. 3. QR code is useful for crowds but not for older people who don't seem to navigate well in these multi-tiered menus. The ambiance is great, place clean and organized, but i do feel a little awkward at times, savoring hawker stall fare in a five-star setting. All the same, good luck and good business to you!
Jackie — Google review
The noodles are perfectly springy and cooked just right. I love the simplest version, I.e. noodles topped only with crispy pork lard and two sunny-side-up eggs. It’s comfort food at its best. I actually prefer the original version without chilli, as it lets me fully enjoy the pure, authentic taste of the noodles.
Lolli _ — Google review
A simple eatery serving decent wanton mee. The teen had the pork chop mee pok, while I went for the prawn dumpling signature mee kia. Verdict: the mee kia was better, perfect al dente, with large, meaty dumplings filled with more prawns than pork. The pork chop was lean yet tender. Our only gripe - the chilli could have been more fragrant and spicier!
D. K — Google review
We decided to have lunch here today cos it’s been awhile since we ate this wantan mee shop. I must say that they have evolved and there are many options to customise your wantan mee. The standard price now is RM11. I had the normal black non spicy wantan mee and a cup of hot teh today. While mum shared her wantan mee with Tristan. I liked the new concept and taste. The bill came up to RM28.50.

San Low Seafood Restaurant is a highly popular dining spot in the Taman Pelangi area, known for drawing in crowds until late at night. It has become a favorite among locals and even attracts visitors from across the causeway. The restaurant originally started as a small hawker stall before relocating to its current location.

San Low Seafood in JB is a popular spot, especially crowded at night. Recommended by friends, the food did not disappoint—bee hoon and sweet and sour pork were especially delicious. The curry fish head, however, was more watery than expected and could be improved. Overall, a satisfying meal with a few areas for refinement. Worth a visit for local flavors.

Pretty nice food and portion was generous. The stingray was undercooked, informed the staff to cook it again…. Otherwise it could have been a more enjoyable dining experience.

Was recommended by a local to try this place and we were truly not disappointed. San Low Fried Bee Hoon was so good, chewy and not over-fried. Grouper was big and very fresh! Will love to come back for crabs. Very affordable pricing. Spent around $88 sgd for these dishes with 2 drinks and 1 coconut.
Calbee C — Google review
San Low Seafood Restaurant's signature burnt fried bee hoon was famous, although it didn't quite live up to its usual standard. Compared to previous visits, it was less burnt this time, resulting in a slightly less wok hei. The dish still tasted very good. The salted egg sotong and prawn were decent additions to our meal.
Derek N — Google review
Unfortunately beside the juicy and fresh roasted chicken, the garlic steamed prawns and pan fried crab failed to impressed. Mainly as the crab wasn't as fresh as you would expect from a good seafood restaurant.

OG shop that’s been around for ages. Food is quite consistent and the restaurant is more comfortable in the evening. Teow Chew Style Pomfret, Fried Bee Hoon, and they have 3 types of steam dumplings here!
YK ( — Google review
If you’ve been around JB long enough, you’ll know San Low Seafood Restaurant that old-school spot along Jalan Biru where locals and Singaporeans squeeze in every weekend night for a good plate of wok hei-filled goodness. We went down for dinner, and the moment you arrive, the smell of sizzling garlic, soy, and seafood hits you. No fancy décor, no aircon just the sound of woks clanging and the buzz of people tucking into plates of fresh seafood. It’s chaotic, it’s loud, but it’s exactly how a true zi char place should be. The San Low Bee Hoon is still the star of the show slightly crisp on the outside, soft and moist inside, with that unmistakable smoky wok hei that you can’t fake. You can tell every strand has been kissed by the wok. Simple, humble, but addictive. We also had the butter prawns, and wah, that rich buttery aroma mixed with curry leaves and crispy bits absolute shiok. Prawns were fresh, firm, and juicy. The sambal kangkong packed a solid kick, not too oily, and the salted egg squid came perfectly coated crunchy outside, tender inside, with just the right balance of sweet and savoury. Service is fast, straight to the point don’t expect small talk, just good efficiency. Food comes out hot and fast even when the place is packed. Prices are still reasonable for the quality definitely value for money compared to Singapore seafood joints. ⭐ Verdict: 4.7/5 San Low remains a true JB classic, no nonsense, no frills, just old school Chinese zi char cooked with real fire and skill. Come for dinner, come hungry, and leave smelling a bit smoky but happy. That’s how you know it’s authentic.

Super fast easy access if you dont know what to eat. I like the buttermilk and salted egg meals better than the others to be honest. I dont like the dried chilli as i thought it was gonna be spicy but it was on the sweeter side. I would update once i found the salted egg picture. Decently price. But the downside is after eating all the meals its strongly msg fied

A very basic local restaurant with a simple setup. The seating area is quite minimal and straightforward nothing fancy, just enough to get the job done. We tried a variety of local dishes, and while everything was edible and decent, nothing particularly stood out for me in terms of flavor or presentation. Based on my taste and preference, I’d say the food was average not bad, but not something I’d go out of my way for. Overall, it’s just fine if you’re looking for a no frills local spot to grab a quick meal.

🦀 Harlan Restaurant – Seafood Lovers’ Paradise! 🌊 If you’re a fan of fresh seafood and bold flavors, Harlan Restaurant is a must-visit spot. Their signature chilli crab truly lives up to the hype — rich, spicy, and full of flavor that clings perfectly to every piece of juicy crab meat. No wonder it’s one of the most famous dishes here! 🔥 The seafood is incredibly fresh, cooked to perfection, and served with that irresistible aroma that makes your mouth water even before the first bite. Every dish bursts with taste, from prawns to clams — everything screams quality and freshness. 💬 The restaurant gets quite busy, especially during dinner time, but that’s just proof of how loved it is by locals and travelers alike. If you’re in the mood for authentic seafood and a finger-licking good chilli crab, Harlan Restaurant should be at the top of your list. Highly recommended! 😋

Crab not fresh, meat is sticky. Chili sauce is good! I prefer the tomatoish chili sauce. Fish is soso, overcooked a little. Garlic vege is super good, I think they used scallop sauce. Overall decent meal, 3.5/5. Price for crab and fish isn't cheap.

Have eaten here so many times and it never disappoints. Really value for money. The food is always great and the service is fast. The salted egg crayfish and steam fish are always amazing. Would definitely come again. :)

Recommended by ChatGPT from a few search results when we asked it to plan a day trip to JB. Parking is available along the roadside leading up to the restaurant. It was quiet when we visited for dinner on a Wednesday, though there was a steady flow of Grab drivers picking up orders. We had the chili crab (RM105 for 700g). It wasn’t spicy, leaning more towards a tomato-based flavour. We also ordered fried mantou (minimum order of 3 at RM1.10 each). It was served first, so by the time the crab arrived, the buns were already at room temperature. The hotplate tofu was good — a mix of egg, tofu, prawns, meat, and ginger slices. The stir-fried garlic French beans were also well done, crunchy and flavourful. The steamed prawns, however, were a letdown as they weren’t fresh; the flesh stuck to the shells when peeled. The restaurant accepts credit card payments (with a sign indicating a minimum spend of RM12, written in Malay). Only a credit card slip was provided — no itemised receipt — but the main cost was definitely the crab at RM105.

This is the place to go to if you crave for a proper seafood dinner meal. It's affordable and offer variety of options. The fish doesn't taste as fresh but they cook it well enough.

We were there for a private event and the food was nice, especially the beef rib eye. It was cooked nicely and tender. The cheesecake was flavourful and light.

The service was exceptional, staff were attentive and friendly. Food was quite good, decent flavours with generous portions. Overall it is a good experience dining here and definitely worth a visit.

The food here was a disappointment wasn’t too bad but the pizza was too hard to chew the ingredients were great tho, love their duck breast wasn’t too salty and the black olive were high quality. the boss and the waiter were all very polite which was super great. The tomato sauce spaghetti was good tho, the chicken was tender and juicy and the spaghetti wasn’t too oily, the sauce were flavoured well wasn’t too salty just classic. The lentil soup was great too, contains onion, carrots, black pepper, parsley and more which was delicious. The salmon salad was a big disappointment tho, the salmon wasn’t grilled well enough, a lot of scorch, the price was decent because of set lunch. The appetiser bread was also too hard like a stone, their vinegar was normal too.

Price is very high but justify for the food! Main highlight is the duck, has a very unique charcoal fragrance, very unique flavorful taste, duck fresh is very well done, soft and tender, serving size is quite big. The oranges seasoning topping is damn good!! Dipping sauce w hint of orange tasted nice & unique. Lamb is also very good as well! One of the best ever eaten. Their sauces tasted very good with the meat. Mushroom sauce has many mushrooms pieces in it, not very starchy, has super strong mushroom flavour, much better than marche ones. Came here for my partner birthday meal here, and very satisfied with food quality!

Mee Rebus Haji Wahid is a culinary gem nestled in Johor Bahru, celebrated for its delectable and rich gravy paired with tender noodles. This iconic dish, garnished with boiled eggs, crispy fried shallots, and zesty green chilies, promises an explosion of flavors that every visitor should experience. Established in 1918 by Pak Baidali, this legendary food stall has become a beloved spot among locals and tourists alike.

Mee Rebus Special Daging = RM11.00 No Service Charges This is a Famous Food Stall in the Medan Selera of Angsana Mall that is apparently highly raved.  Run by a Friendly Young Lad, I noticed most of the Google Reviews raved about their Special Daging  so I gave it a try. It was served up quickly in 2 Mins. I love this Motivational Quote they have in front of the Stall: "Every Day may not be Good, but there is Something Good in Every Day." Mee Rebus Special Daging = RM11.00 Its quite a Big Plate filled with the Usual Ingredients that you'd expect for a Mee Rebus.  Noodles, Gravy, 1 Whole Boiled Egg. In addition to those, the "Special" here refers to the addition of 5 Pieces of Bite Sized Beef.  There are also Generous Amounts of Fried Crisps that they sprinkle on. The Gravy for this one is More Watery, not those Thick Thick Gao Gao Texture.  While it of course has that Signature Mee Rebus Taste that you'd expect, I'm surprised that the "Mee-Rebusness" isn't that strong if it makes sense.  This Gravy is not as 重口味 compared to others I've tried before. Another Difference is that this Gravy is Very Noticeably Spicy.  It won't bite your tongue but you will absolutely feel its presence.  For some reason, it also has this more Savoury "Meatier Profile" perhaps due to the inclusion of the 5 Pieces of Daging.  I especially like that when you squeeze Calamansi to it, it will take on an Extra Exciting Sourish Tang. 🍋‍🟩 The Yellow Noodles were certainly from a Package although they were boiled nicely, neither Too Firm nor Too Soft.  They didn't taste Alkaliney and the Amount given felt acceptable for the Price. The 5 Beef Daging Pieces are the True Standout Ingredient.  They were Stewed Soft to the Bite which means they have been cooked for quite long in order for them to be able to break down like this.  Meaty and Chewy Soft, I love the Release of Beefiness when you sink your teeth in them.  I also love some of the Fattier Pieces which added another Layer of Fatty Creaminess in addition to its Beefiness. I wish they gave more than 5 Pieces although I totally understand that they need to manage cost price too. I'm impressed that they at least gave a Full Egg,  and the Fried Crisps of course were there to add a Crispy Crunch Texture to the Dish. Conclusion and Closing Thoughts At the Price of RM11.00 (S$3.30) is an Affordable Price for this Decently Big Plate of Mee Rebus that included pieces of Beef Daging.  The Combination of Beef and Gravy worked well.  They were the Soul of the Dish with their Double Combo of Beefiness and Savouriness. I liked that the Base Gravy itself isn't the 重口味 Very "Mee-Rebusy" type which didn't make the Dish too Jelak to eat for me.  Together with the Well Boiled Noodles, a Whole Egg for Protein and occasional crunch from the Fried Crisps, this was a Tasty Meal. If there is anything I feel could be improved, I thought the Amount of Taugeh given could be more as I felt this Dish needed slightly more Veggie Crunch.  But Overall, it was still Very Decent Tasting.  This is worth to try if you're ever here in Angsana Mall. I thought this is one of the Better Rendition of this Classic Dish. Thanks for Reading. Come join my Facebook Food Blog: "A Solo Singaporean's Guide to JB Foods (And More!)" to view the Full Review with Photos.

After harking how good the Mee Rebus at ZZ Sup Tulang Restaurant was, I have to contend that I actually prefer the Mee Rebus at Haji Wahid much more. 😁 Just a 20mins Grab ride away, at the back of Angsana Mall, is where I finally found Haji Wahid, being one of many stalls at the rear of the mall. It wasn't difficult asking for directions. The first moment I uttered "Mee Rebus", the people in Angsana Mall instantly knew where it was, and pointed me in the right direction. Ordering was easy. The young stall holder even joked with me after finding out that I am a Singaporean working in KL. Regrettably, only the standard Mee Rebus Besar/Sedap at RM 6/7 was left. If it was available, the beef that additionally tops the Mee Rebus for an extra RM 3 had sold out. I didn't take into account that it was Ramadan, and I arrived at Haji Wahid just as the fast was about to break. The entire food court where Haji Wahid was located was packed to the brim. No bother truly, and I found a place to sit down by the pavement floor next to the food court. Out of respect, I also waited, but only just slightly, for the fast to break before I started consuming the Mee Rebus, together with the locals. 😁 Although plain looking, the Mee Rebus was absolutely delicious. I hope I could do it justice with my description here. The gravy definitely tasted pleasantly but not overwhelmingly sweet, spiced and nutty with peanuts (I think), that overshadowed the standard boiled yellow noodles. Unlike ZZ Sup Tulang, Haji Wahid's Mee Rebus came piping-hot, and it was much more palatable, enjoyable and delicious with every bite. Deep-fried spiced crispies, coriander, green pepper and calamansi lime completed this Malay culinary artwork, that brought Haji Wahid's Mee Rebus to another level. 😋😋😋 Will I be back again to Haji Wahid's Mee Rebus the next time when I visit JB? Hell, YEAH!!! 👍👍👍 If only I could, I would have Haji Wahid's Mee Rebus daily. ❤️❤️❤️ A shame I had not been able to to find a Mee Rebus in KL of similar standard.

Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock, located in Tampoi, is renowned for its Poached Fish and Claypot Bak Kut Teh. The bak kut teh here has a unique flavor due to the Chinese liquorice and orange peel-like taste. The Poached Fish is drenched in soya sauce and fried garlic, while the Minced Meat Tofu is a simple yet flavorful dish.
I wouldn’t mind eating here more often if I live nearby. Bak Kut Teh was more on the sweet side but lots of ingredients. For me , the main highlight was the fish. Huge and chunky meat. Place is spacious and many Malaysians having brunches on weekends.

Actually this place got my first impression from its ambience, *Place : the old fashioned coffee shop style like in the childhood times straight away gives out the good food vibes. good parking, easy to find, flat - no stairs or floors. *Products : I ordered bakkutteh, pork leg and veggies, chinese tea. They also hv selection of rice : plain jasmine rice or yam rice. The steam fish and tofu looks yummy but i didnt order. If you try, let me know how does it taste :) All the food hv a sweet taste and i personally doesnt like it, but i can see many people enjoys it. The quality of the food are all very fresh. I think it’s just a matter of preferences. Bakkutteh taste herbal with a hint of sweetness.. The varieties of soya sauce / condiments are also a good choice to pair up with any food we try. *Price : MYR 50.90 can be for 3 people Hope this review is useful .. * Promotions : none

No frills local eatery. Clean and good. You know the food is fresh because the cooking style is light and clean. Thus the freshness of the ingredients shine through. There is a large range of fish to choose, from red snapper to grouper. Fresh, with a variety of sizes. Simple steam with delicious garlic soy sauce. For vegetables, the meat sauce is the highlight. Light and savoury, it goes go well with the crisp fresh nai bai (milk cabbage). The reason for my visit is the bak kut teh (pork rib soup). Theirs is the herbal kind. The taste is delicate and does not overpower the taste of the meat. You can tell that it has been boiling for hours. The meat is tender and falls off the bone. Each claypot comes with a few pork bones, pork belly, liver, small intestines, tau kee, and tau pok. Before the food is served, the wait staff with come with a basin of sauce plates. There are 3 general condiments to select from. Bird's eye chilli with dark soy sauce, garlic with dark soy sauce, and lastly, light soy sauce with shallots and vinegar. Overall, it was an excellent experience.

I love the fish and veg (帝王苗)!! Bak kut teh is slightly sweet and not to my liking. Wasn’t told that they have the yam rice options so ordered the white rice first. Yam rice was nice, so you can skip the white rice and order it instead! 👍🏻

Tried this bak kut teh spot recently — the tofu dish was absolutely delicious and the pork trotters were rich, tender, and well-executed. The BKT itself was a bit too sweet for my taste, and I was a little disappointed they don’t offer pig stomach (only 粉肠). Still worth a visit if you like your BKT on the sweeter side, and the side dishes definitely shine.

Food is good, portions are small but two people eat about 78 rm, lunch, came slightly later and found some seats. Atmosphere could be further improved, the aesthetics of the place, washing area and poor segregation of front and back operations, make the place look chaotic and untidy. The guy used his bare hands to catch my snapper. Snapper was ok, decent amount of meat and freshness.

Had our team lunch here and we ordered mostly their authentic dishes , overall, the food was delicious and definitely up to standard. The bak kut teh soup is refillable, though we noticed it got a bit saltier the more we drank. The fish was fresh and tasty, and the vegetables were well-prepared too. It’s an open-air dining environment, so it’s best to come early or in the evening , the afternoon heat can be quite intense!

Yummy Nasi Lemak House in Johor Bahru is a popular spot that specializes in the beloved Malaysian dish, Nasi Lemak. The humble stall offers an elevated version of this coconut rice dish, along with other food choices like Yam Cake. Originally located in Ulu Choh, the high demand led to its expansion to Johor Bahru. Visitors can expect an authentic Nasi Lemak experience with fried chicken and explore other local delicacies as well.
Saturday lunch in JB's Yummy Nasi Lemak House was delicious. We ordered nasi lemak mutton rendang (M$16) and mee goreng ayam (M$13). Mutton was cooked just right without the gamey flavour that is usually associated with mutton. The fried chicken was tasty, crispy outside and tender inside. The nasi rice had the right balance of herbs. The restaurant makes its own kueh on a daily basis. We ordered a pack of 3 kueh dadar and a pack of 4 keuh lapis, each pack was M$5, a steal considering Bengawan Solo sells a single piece at S$1.50. The kueh dadar's crepe was thin with fresh coconut, just the way we used to eat in the old days. I had a lot of fun peeling the kueh lapis layer by layer too! Overall, a truly yummy and sumptuous lunch!

Solid breakfast or brunch spot that serve nasi lemak and noodles. Kueh are marvelous too over here. Rice is not overly frangant but kept it's act together. Herb fried chicken is tender and juicy. Rendang is full of favours but just a little hard for my liking. Kueh are not overly sweet just the right amount. Coffee is ok. Chilli is a little sweet type but good enough.

Place: air-conditioned + fan (windy) restaurant that specialises in nasi lemak. They sell other local kuih-muihs and delicacies i.e. fried beehoon, curry rice, and fried mee. Parking is nearly impossible here, lol. I had to risk parking beside the road and walk some distance to the shop. Becareful folks. Service: Waiters brought the menu fairly quickly without delay and took my order fairly promptly. No complaints here. Food: 1. Nasi lemak with chicken rendang + fried herbal chicken (ayam goreng berempah): ok, this is a nasi lemak ala-chinese style with lots of red onions, some anchovies, and little serai inside the sambal for smell. It's predominantly on the slight salty with a tinge of sweet side (due to the red onions) . Spicy level: 2.5/10 (10 being hot peri-peri sauce) kids can eat this. The ayam rendang was so so in terms of taste but cooked to moist perfection. The ayam rendang was more like ayam pericik style with a spicy level of 3/10, and rich in flavour. But somehow, it was not what i expected from rendang. The chicken was cooked perfectly and softly. Verdict: 3.5/5.

Tried the nasi lemak ⭐️ Fried chicken is very crispy and flavorful. ⭐️ Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. 😀 Rice has a very traditional taste, but not very fragrant. 😀 Sambal is not spicy, it’s quite sweet in fact. Would be good if you don’t like spice. Have tried better nasi lemaks in JB

Great place for a weekend breakfast. Get in before 9am to enjoy fresh kueh and beat the crowd. Loved their kueh dadar, lapis, salat and bingka ubi. The curry puffs are flakey and chock-full of ingredients! As for the Nasi Lemak, the sambal bawang with ikan bilis is fresh but not too piquant. Fluffy rice not too heavy on the santan. Give the Mee Siam a try… the rempah is umami-rich from the ground shrimp. About S$4-5 per pax.
Benjamin S — Google review
I had the Nasi Lemak Seafood RM10.90 (not cheap) , rice is VERY lemak, like too much coconut milk but The Husband said its nice. The seafood was tiny little pieces of squid & shrimp in fritters (jemput2), wasn't expecting that (a let down, honestly) . The Husband had Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng special, fried chix was marinated, flavorful & crunchy. Both Nasi lemak comes with sambal onion & ikan bilis (prefer sambal kosong w/o these 2) acar veg & papadom. The highlight of our meal is not the Nasi Lemak, it was the CENDOL! The coconut milk & gula melaka was so good, you can tell the quality by tasting it. Hands down the best compared to Cendol House.

Din Kee Beef Noodle, located in Bukit Indah, is a must-visit for beef noodle enthusiasts. The restaurant specializes in hearty bowls of beef noodles featuring tender beef brisket, succulent beef tendon, and flavorful beef cubes. These are complemented by preserved vegetables and peanuts for added texture and taste. Diners can choose from kuey teow, bee hoon or yellow noodles to accompany the generous servings of meat.
Nice beef noodles at reasonable pricing. Old school stall with noodle texture exactly the same as those used for Penang Assam Laksa. For the dry version, the gravy is similar to the hand toss noodle gravy, not the braised type. The soup is extremely nice. Overall, highly recommending this place. Taste is slightly different from those of Singapore version.

Very affordable and comforting bowl of beef noodle. Had dry version, very slurpy and balanced with the peanut and picked veg. Soup is extremely beefy. Would love it if the tripe was braised instead of boiled in water, soft nonetheless.

1. Ample parking space 2. Air-conditioned 3. Great service food served fast 4. Clean 5. Cashless payment available 6. Tender beef, mixed meat 7. Flavourful soup (no top up) 8. Tonic drinks available 2 bowls of beef at RM30 in total.
Kris T — Google review
Tried both the soup and dry version. I would say the soup is better just because their beef soup is so flavourful and rich. Coupled with what is probably the best braised beef in the region (ok on par with Taiwanese beef), you get one mouth watering bowl of braised beef noodle that will keep you coming back for more. The beef is so tender it melts on your mouth, yet it is amazing that it retains all that flavour when you bite into it. Try to get there well before 2pm cause they do sell out before 3pm sometimes. The version with fresh beef is more expensive but it is worth a try.

A comfortable place to dine in. There was a queue when we arrived for Sunway lunch but it was worth it. The broth is full of flavour and the portion is good with plenty of meat. As compared to Kulai Mok Gao, this is better. We chose RM13 for a bowl and it was delicious. Though the waiting time can be long, but try it. Plus the chilli sauce is so good.

Beef noodle done al dente. Ordered the mixed beef kway tiao soup. Generous on ingredients and ingredients are fresh and tender. Definitely a keeper!

The beef noodles were really tasty and worth trying! 😋 Flavorful soup and tender meat make it worth a visit. We accidentally walked in through the side door without noticing there was already a line at the main entrance. When I told the staff we had 4 people, the lady boss frowned and told us to queue. It made us feel a bit awkward like we accidentally became queue jumpers 😅 (which wasn’t our intention at all). However, clearer signs at the entrance would be helpful to guide customers. I noticed some reviews mentioned rude service, and while my experience wasn’t that extreme, I did feel a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully with small improvements, this place can shine even more. The restaurant has air-conditioning, which makes the dining experience more comfortable, especially for hot soup dishes. 🍲

Really good beef noodles, the best that I've had. Beef had good marbling and broth was tasty and light. I ordered the fresh beef noodle soup which only had the traditional beef slices with no off-cuts - a helpful tip for anyone trying to avoid innards or tendon parts. They're only open from morning till 3pm so you know it's good if the business can survive with such short operating hours. Business looks to be good when I came for an early lunch at 11am Looking forward to returning to eat more of their beef noodles! 😋

Come during late breakfast. The parking is quite limited. For cars. But the restaurant is huge and there is a lot of seating available. The choice of foods is also various. From lontong, nasi dagang, nasi kerabu, laksam, nasi berlauk to kuih kuih (mostly Kelantan cuisine). The food is just okay and the price is fair. The portion is also just nice and the service is good. Waiting did not take long. The environment is great like we have 2 different vibes in one place. A village vibes according to the restaurant condition and the city vibes due to its location in the middle of the town. Good hangout to bring family and friends for a breakfast and lunch spot.

Near my working place. Heard some good/bad review about the place. I think its a cozy little village warung in the middle of town. Most kelatanese food available here. Kuih muih and kelatanese traditional food are much sought after. For Kelantanese and whoever like traditional dish & kuih muih, i recommend the warung. Try their nasi kerabu, laksam etc. Thats my thought, go & try this estabishment. 😁

Warung has so many options of kari/gulai Ayam/ikan, snacks/kuih, etc. Atmosphere: 1🌟 This Warung has better proper shop than just wooden house that looks like it will fall down with sudden big wind. However, cleanliness is a problem here as the tables are like stone tables and it does feels not very clean/hard to clean unless they do scrubbing weekly. Main problem is the place sometimes has cats hence people drop food or somehow the food is not properly clean as it looks like it's in the floor for sometime. This need daily cleaning which likely not happening. The place doesn't have a lot of fans but sometimes cooling breeze helps but as the place is sort of infested with ants that crawls on the table. Also, there's flies and insects biting (not sure mosquitoes or what) so it's not a comfy place. Snacks: - Karipap 2.75🌟, Pulut Kelapa 3.25🌟, Nasi Bean 3.25🌟, Cucur Udang 3.25🌟, Keropok Lekor (Thick) 3.5🌟 Karipap is cold and very soft already but flavour is not too bad actually (nice curry flavour). I think the 2nd one (brown colour) is Pulut something, it's sweet and flavour quite strong (I feel it's Gula Melaka and Kelapa) and still warm. The last one forgot the name (white colour) but it's rice with some beans, also quite nice and hot (just came out not long I think). Cucur Udang is decent, the prawn is medium small which is rare. The best thing here is the sauce, very nice, sweet and spicy. Keropok Lekor Thick is a very chewy and strong fish flavour. Drinks Teh Ais 3.5🌟 Kurang Manis and it's still plenty sweet, must order less sweet here (unless they forgot). However the taste is good, I like it though. Drinks: Ais Kosong Total for everything is Rm 9

Warung Saga is a traditional village eatery that has been established since 1986 and has become a favorite destination for locals seeking the delicious lontong kering and tauhu goreng. The authentic flavors of Johor's lontong kering can be savored here, making it a valuable experience for food enthusiasts exploring Johor Bahru.
Was going to our usual satay place but it was closed. As we drove into the lane to turn out, we saw this place and tried it out. Good find. Beef satay was good and not chewy. Burnt the right and yummy inside. Chicken satay, maybe a bit too "healthy"... Would love just a little more skin and fat - just a little bit more, would be perfect. Generous with the onion and cucumbers. Free refills of the sauce, within reason. Overall, good find and will be back to try out other things on the menu.

Their signatures are johorean food. But now that we are no longer based in jb, this was our first visit post-covid. (Visit was in July 2023) To our disappointment, lontong kering, mee siam, mee goreng, nasi ambeng and nasi lemak didnt taste anything like the original. How could we forget when this used to be our fav breakfast and lunch spot for 30-35 yrs? The sambal tasted very sweet, kuah kacang and lauk sayur in lontong kering tasted like some dish from indon, among others. Mee goreng and mee siam were a far cry than what they used to be. If you try and close your eyes, they just tasted like some of the dishes you had in one of the eateries in indonesia 😫😫😫 I'm writing this truly hoping they will improve and bring back the joy and satisfaction we had in indulging their authentic johorean dishes. Warung saga USED to serve homemade-like dishes with much love and passion. We need that same passion, same desire, same respect, so that your authentic johorean food will be preserved.

Friendly reception, nostalgic and photo ready corners here. It would be wonderful if lontong or nasi lemak is served hot or warm.

Went here for their highly rated dishes. We went there for dinner. We arrived at 5pm. Wife got "mee sup" & i took their Special of The Day - Nasi Goreng Kambing. Also ordered the highly rated tauhu goreng. All in all, everything is just on par. Not to our taste buds. Nothing special about the dishes. Waited quite some time for the dishes coz there's only 1 cook. But kudos to the "old reminiscent" ambiance.

This is best place to have breakfast for me. This restaurant serve a lot of Malay cuisines and I like their village style. The design of this restaurant are beautiful because it is filled with a lot of legendary actors and figures. I feel relaxed and peace here because of the quite atmosphere here. This restaurant is located in quiet secluded area in Johor Bahru. The car park are easily accessible and nearby this restaurant. My favorite dishes here lontong kering, mee rebus and tauhu bakar. Mee rebus are spicy and it really suit my taste. I’m lifted hahaha. The price are standard like the other restaurant nearby. Their staffs are attentive and nice. They always keep the restaurant clean and tidy. I would recommend this restaurant

金宝猪肠粉 G. Cheong Fun Restaurant offers a wide selection of six cheong fun options, along with the possibility to customize your dish with house-made yong tau foo. All their cheong fun is freshly made in-house using rice flour and served slightly cool to maintain its texture. One of their unique offerings is the Anson, which incorporates preserved turnip, hei bee, and shallots into the cheong fun itself.
One of the best Cheong Fun at JB. But personally don’t really like the char siew cheong fun, but also not bad. Tried before the An Shun Cheong Fun very nice.

Finally got a chance to try out the CCF restaurant, Yong Tau Fu is abundance and all self pick, ordered the curry CCF and the black CCF, curry CCF tasted in the milder side and the gravy wasn’t hot, just lukewarm.. I prefer the black sauce version which is much more flavourful. Overall, it ok..

1. Parking outside aplenty 2. Fast ordering at counter 3. Yong tau foo + curry sauce can separate 4. Seats aplenty 5. Digital payment available 6. Food is served by robots 7. Hot drinks available YTF and CCF came cold. Taste is ok. Curry is light and not bad. Would have given 5 stars if served hot.

Craving for ZhiCheongFun, we searched on Google and found this place just nearby, so my husband and I decided to try. It’s a two-stall, open-concept restaurant with roadside parking available. The food variety is quite simple , mainly handmade ZhiCheongFun, some nyeong items, and yamcake. Very local, Ipoh-style vibes. The place is busy and popular, so be prepared to queue at times. I really love the curry sauce , it goes perfectly with the ZhiCheongFun. Coffee is good too! Definitely will come back again

Overrated & Served Cold - Not Worth the 90-Minute JB Drive! I drove all the way from Singapore to Johor Bahru—almost a 90-minute journey—specifically to try this highly-hyped Zhu Chang Fen (Chee Cheong Fun) for breakfast. What a massive waste of effort. The entire experience was a huge letdown. The most shocking and unacceptable part was that everything was served cold! A dish like this is meant to be enjoyed warm, and being served cold completely ruined the texture and flavor. But the sambar see ham and curry cheong fun can give a try This stall is seriously overrated. Based on this experience, it is definitely not worth the long drive or the time spent crossing the border. Skip it.

Not your typical cheong fun that you are used to in Singapore. The cheong fun is thick but thinly cut kway teow. Not cheap either. For sure they add MSG as my friend and I were very thirsty for the rest of the afternoon.

Yummy! I love it. I'm reminiscing the taste of the 'An Shun' cheong Fun, it's my 1st time eating this, I personally love it. The texture is perfectly steamed, not too soft. The shallot & the cai po, ooooo, yummy! I like the pig's skin too. Personally prefer the curry gravy to the sweet sauce.

This resultant offers Chee Cheong Fun (Teluk Instant, Steam HK Style, Local Red/Black/Curry sauce), Steam/Fried Yong Tau Foo (Fish and Pork Paste fillings), Side Dishes (Chicken Feet, etc), etc. Atmosphere: 4🌟 Traditional Nanyang Coffee shop design with a lot of fans so it's pretty cooling still despite not air conditioned. Place is decently clean and good gaps between tables. Tables and chairs are standard and about 70% are big tables. Service: 4.25🌟 Friendly, attentive and with patience services. Find a table to sit and order your food and take note of the table number. You take what you wanted into the stainless steel big plate and hand over to the staff telling them your table number They will ask if you want CCF and what sauce. Food: Cheong Fun 3.5🌟 Big portion for 1 plate, it's thin but has multiple layers. Had a mixture of Red and Black sauce. I remember last time I tried Red Sauce (which is Ipoh Style), I don't like it but here it's quite nice. It's sweet and maybe sour or something. Black sauce is good also, also sweet. Priced at Rm 3.50 Food: Assorted Yong Tau Foo 3.5🌟 - Curry 3.25🌟, Fried Diced Vege Fishcakes 3.5🌟, Fried Dumpling 3.25🌟, Chili 3.25🌟, Ladies Finger 3.5🌟, Fried Bean curd roll 3.25🌟, Long Beans 3.75🌟, Bean curd skin 3.25🌟, Fried Fish Curd 3.25🌟, Brinjal 3.75🌟, Fishball 3.75🌟 Curry is quite decent, not really much spicy. Vege Fishcakes have a nice flavour and bouncy chewy texture. Dumpling has pork fillings and very flavorful (a bit salty) so best eat with CCF. Chili and Ladies Fingers are quite nice, look very clean and fish paste very smooth, chewy and bouncy. Bean curd roll fillings are pork as well, also flavorful. Long Beans wrapped with Fish paste which I think is the Star in this shop, very nice with curry. The other bean curd skin is standard and nice as well. Fish curd comes in as a pair (take 2) and it's also quite nice. Brinjal isn't very oily and tastes good. I like the Fishball, softer than the other fish paste. The YTF is generally priced at Rm 2 a piece(2 if the items is 1.70 a piece) and their size is medium. Drinks: Chinese Tea (Cold) Priced at Rm 0.80

Noodle shop
Restoran Wantan Mee DS is a popular spot known for its affordable and delicious wonton noodles. The menu offers options like BBQ Pork Noodles and Minced Pork Noodles, both served with generous portions of noodles and flavorful toppings. The restaurant has a nostalgic ambiance, and customers can enjoy traditional dishes such as fish tofu, fish cake, and fried wontons. The char siew is particularly praised for being fatty and full of flavor.
The taste is awesome and the price is so affordable with a massive huge portion, it's such a generous serving. Definitely a place to revisit, but careful of the waiting time might be a bit waiting and delaying once the restaurant hits peak hours.
Simon K — Google review
Came here based off a TikTok video I saw. Might be difficult to spot as there’s a tree blocking the sign. Ordered a big wantan noodles with char siew, friend dumplings, and kopi ice. Noodles was springy and tasty, nice! Lacks a bit of oomph, but you can add your own lard in for more taste. Sauces used overall were pretty okay for the noodles. Not salty not sweet, just nice. The wantan tasted a bit mushy and raw, I’d have liked it cooked a little more. The fried dumplings were nice, still hot after some time. Fillings of both the wantan and dumpling feels authentic, but also somehow taste like there’s a lot of filler inside. The char siew though is fatty, juicy, and really tender. Super nice! The unique thing about this place is their chilli. They make it with hae bee hiam, which is fried shrimp paste. Gave it a very distinct taste! The ice kopi was…drinkable 🤪 Overall, pretty nice eatery and wasn’t crowded on a Sunday at 1130am. NICE!

Portions are huge but char siew is really amazing O my issue the char siew got drowned out by the immensely huge quantity of noodles Won ton ? Neglible
Stephen W — Google review
Wan tan mee is one of those foods that is rigorously judged based on prior experiences, and once you’ve had top tier wan tan mee, it can be hard to appreciate weaker iterations. The wan tan mee here is special, but there’s something missing. The noodles are exceptional, and the portion for RM7 is beyond generous - it borders obscene! In addition, the optional condiment of dry shrimp chili was a welcomed shift from the usual pickled peppers and fried lard (though I was disappointed that they had run out of both!). However, the char siew, which looked great, was underwhelming in taste and texture, though I may have just been spoiled by the char siew quality found in KL. If you are a fan of wan tan mee noodles, definitely don’t write this place off, but temper your expectations accordingly.

No frills, friendly service, very reasonable pricing. HK style charsiew, wanton, dumplings and yong tau fu are generously filled, not skimped. All locals. These food stalls are getting rarer by the days. Pls keep it up and continue to run as long as you can.

First time trying this after hearing that it's pretty famous. Arrived in the morning and the place is already quite crowded, but still managed to get a table. Didn't know what to order so followed the menu to pick the signatures and recommended stuff. The BBQ pork and the minced pork noodles are recommended. I also didn't get to pick the noodles or wet/dry just let the people here decide on the default combination. Also ordered a few sides like the fish tofu, fish cake and the fried wanton. I loved the noodles and the sauce that came with it. Its so good and tasty and the type I like with the black sauce. Wished there would be a little more char siew and the char siew is more burnt and crispy would be good. They have their chili which was very good also, it went well with the noodles and the sides. Sides wise it was not too bad, Fried wanton was on the expensive side, the fish cake was hot and good, but the fish tofu was cold. Overall was okay but the highlight is really the noodles. Sides can give it a miss but the noodles are not to be missed!

Mat Corner Nasi Ambang, located in Bandar Baru Uda, Johor Bahru, is renowned for its delicious rendition of the classic Malay-Javanese dish. The dish features steamed rice served with a choice of proteins such as fried chicken, beef rendang, grilled fish, or prawns. Visitors praise the juicy and tender chicken coated in flavorful masak merah sauce and the signature spicy sambal.
My go to place for Nasi Ambeng since early 2000. The queue is long during lunch hour but the team works efficiently to move it. My choice has always been “Double Thigh Banjir” (Nasi Ambeng with 2 chicken thighs, sauce to be flooding). Have it there or takeaway, it’ll still be great to eat. Note that during the fasting month of Ramadan (the shop will be closed) but they will be selling packed Nasi Ambeng at the stall in front for Muslims to buy break fast food.

Tasty nasi ambang. Ordered the Danging rendang add a smoky egg. The egg had a unique after taste. Food served hot and fresh. Paid rm9.50. Came before noon, and people alrdy streaming in for lunch. Their store front faces the terrace houses, I came in from the other side, and thought they weren’t ready yet. Lucky a helpful uncle informed me.

One of the good place for lunch. Simple nasi ambang (with chicken or beef). They also have “telur pindang”. Usually around 3pm and above already finish. Make sure to come early. Their Nasi Ambang quite simple not too complicated as the original one. Only rice without mee, but complete with ikan masin and vege.

Makan Kitchen at DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru is currently hosting the "Chup! Makan Dulu" Ramadan buffet with a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean theme, available from April 13 to May 14, 2021. The buffet dinner features an array of dishes served from 6pm to 10pm. Additionally, the restaurant offers the Santastic Buffet Dinner throughout December from Sunday to Thursday.
Brought my wife to celebrate anniversary here, it was on a weekday we had a great experience at Makan Kitchen! The variety of food was amazing and delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience even better. Definitely a place worth coming back to.

Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. Overall, the service and atmosphere were good. The food was decent—I especially enjoyed the dessert. The prawns were fresh, but the crab wasn’t as great. The staff were very attentive and approachable, especially Jega, who stood out for his excellent service. The food was consistently replenished, so there was always something available when needed. Since it was seafood night on the weekend, I hope the management can review the freshness of the crab to enhance the overall dining experience.
Christine T — Google review
We had both dinner and breakfast buffets at Makan Kitchen during our weekend stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru. The restaurant is spacious with a nice layout, offering different sections dedicated to Malay, Indian, Chinese, and Western cuisine. For dinner, the spread was generous and had something for everyone. There were highlights like grilled meats, local dishes like laksa, and a decent seafood section. That said, while everything was good and enjoyable, it wasn’t mind-blowing. It leaned more towards variety than standout flavors. Breakfast the next morning was consistent—ample choices from traditional Malaysian fare like nasi lemak to Western classics like omelettes, sausages, and pastries. Again, everything tasted fine but not particularly memorable. Still, the friendly staff, relaxing ambience, and wide options made it a comfortable dining experience. Worth a try if you’re staying at the hotel, especially for convenience.
Crumpled N — Google review
The ambience of the place is very nice. Large space and very cosy. One lady who was serving us was very nice too. But I can't compliment on the food. I cant find anything that is tasty there. Satay lack of ingredients and overcooked. No fats in between. The satay gravy is overpowering with kencur. Rice on any station is hard and not fluffy. Mac n cheese is just flour and milk with no cheese. Beef soup noodle has no beef just beef broth with fish cake. So i wouldn't recommend anyone to come for this buffet spread here. Not worth the money. They should taste their food first before serving. I am sorry but this is my honest and sincere feedback.
Sabrina S — Google review
Salmon and prawn are fresh, oysters big but not fat. You are to choose between lobster or alaskan king crab. Not so many people in the friday dinner, offerings of chinese food looks limited, there where no offerings in the carving station for roasted duck or steamed chicken . Indian food station not replenished, looks a bit overpriced
Rommel M — Google review
This was our second visit to Hilton buffet dinner, but the experience this time was a letdown compared to our first. Food was just normal, service painfully slow, and we had to keep chasing for the birthday cake, despite stating during booking and also during the dinner. There’s a double-boiled soup displayed at the buffet counter, but apparently, it’s “for à la carte orders only” — so why display it there? 🤷🏻‍♀️ We did get the soups in the end, after many requests. The fried oyster counter food was cold, upon request to fry new batch, staff informed that the current cold batch needs to be cleared first before he can do a new batch. Oh wow. Staff were lightning-fast at clearing plates but slow at everything else. The birthday song? Sung with zero enthusiasm. Go Kuroma, does it way better and more welcoming. The “complimentary lobster” was… let’s just say, one bite was enough. And the best part — when we gave feedback about the poor food and service, the staff said she could offer us a “buy 4 get 1 free” deal. 😂 We already knew that was the promotion! What a joke. Definitely not the Hilton standard we expected.

Lai Kee is a long-standing local favorite known for its delicious fishball noodles. The restaurant's fishballs are handmade daily using 100% ikan parang and a touch of salt, unlike the commercial ones filled with additives. A bowl of Fishball Noodles includes fish cake, sliced pork, and a fried version of the fishball with an intense flavor.
Amazing handmade fishball noodles - love the taste of the guo tian, fishballs with unique springy texture and the crispy fu Zhouk. Will definitely return!

Good fix for some Malaysian traditional fishball noodles. Handmade fishballs, fish cakes and fu chok. Fu Chok is fragrant and crispy, a must to try and dabao. The iced kopi was surprising good, thick (gao) and creamy.

Been patronizing this eating place since long time ago, started Rm4.5 till now selling Rm9 for a small bowl. Though is small bowl, portion is acceptable. Enough for an average adult I believe .Taste as usual. I will not say so good till not to be missed. Relatively compared with other ordinary fish ball noodle shops. This shop’s fish ball still stands out. You can really taste the fish, not like others fish ball with lots of starch added in. Soup is umami, top with some preserved vegetable and lard. Apart from the noodles 🍜, side dishes like fish cake, fried bean curd sheets available. The only downside is very difficult to get a parking spot. Not to mention the table. Well you still can sit at the next door coffee shop and order from Lai Kee. Cross shop delivery is allowed. Those with elderly and kids might need to drop them off first and park a bit away from the shop.

Excellent Fish Bone Broth & Must-Try Fried Side! Came here for the authentic 西刀鱼 (Sai Tou Yu / Wolf Herring) noodles. This stall definitely delivers a high-quality bowl, especially in the details. Loved by locals. The soup is naturally sweet and clean, clearly deriving its flavor from the fish bones—a refreshing change from overly salted broths. The surprise star of the meal was the Fried Fuzhu Fishcake. It was excellent and something you should definitely add to your order. I tried the kuay tiao (flat rice noodle), and it was a very thin cut (I suspect a Thai-style noodle), not the wider local kind. It was fine, but I noticed a large number of customers ordering the dry version of the noodles. If I were to go back, I would definitely try the dry noodle next, as that seems to be the local favorite!

Tried their noodle. Prepare to wait min 30minutes before you get your food No menu u just go with flow standard choose your noodle dry or soup. Liew aunty or whoever cooking will give you the standard portion Fish ball was fresh but no wow. Fish was good. Its near the famous durian fried cake. Fuchuk also very nice crispy they normally serve this two first before you get your main meal Always a lot of people in term crowd. So yeah if you can wait OK, if cant go else where because its not a must.
Vivien L — Google review
The chilli seasoning for the noodles is not fragrant enough causing the taste for the noodles to be 1 dimensional- spicy. Fishballs were springy with a hint of the sea, not too bad. Fish cake & tow kee were so so, nothing special.

One of the best handmade bao. Order big bao(very big almost size of the Amy Yip bao so can order 1 for sharing), veggie bao and mei cai bao. Skin is not fluffy type with a bit of chewy texture and all the ingredients are perfectly made. Need to be there early to wait. Was there around 1pm plus a bit. 2pm bao arrive and served around 215pm. Really worth the wait. Beverage is a bit watery for the coffee. Home made barley will be a better choice. Will be back to try the kong ba bao which is sold out next time!

There could be improvement to the mee. Ingredients such as mince pork, vege, ikan bilis are good, but the meat balls are too soft. Unfornately, the paste of the mee is only salty by soy souce. Food is prob 3 stars. But for the friendly services and ambience, I’ll give an extra star. The dim sums were not bad but all fillings taste about the same (mince pork which was yummy) so even though appearance look diff, taste same after a while. Personally, it is also the ambience which I find attractive. The roadside set up, table and chairs and the dog sleeping next to our table. All telling us to slow down, we r in a different place…

High School Kopitiam is a Taiwanese-themed brunch cafe located in Mount Austin. The interior is designed to resemble a classroom, complete with wooden seats, tables, and a large chalkboard with hand-drawn illustrations. The cafe offers a variety of dishes, but their specialty is the diverse range of toast options. One popular choice is the High School Pork Chop Sandwich served with Charcoal Toast.
Interesting high school themed cafe. Tried their signature charcoal chicken cutlet toast, soft boiled eggs, egg pancake with meat floss, and soy milk. The charcoal toast was their signature dish and it was quite tasty and looked nice. Egg pancake and soft boiled eggs were also good. Overall, it's a good place to have breakfast and admire the school theme. Even their staff were wearing student uniforms. The staff were quite rude when delivering the food items though.

An interesting concept cafe with a old school days theme located in Austin Heights. Food was okay and service is fine. Mainly came to revive memories of the past when schooling and capture the vivid moments of being young. Pricing for the food is a tad expensive but I guess that's the rate now for cafes in Johor Bahru so no complaints. Overall a nice cosy contemporary feel to the whole place.

It was a blast for the kids, and it brought back great memories for us parents. The food is comforting and delicious, with a good mix of classic kopitiam fare and some creative twists. It's a fantastic place for a casual and memorable family meal that feels like a trip down memory lane.

Stopped by this school-themed café for a coffee break and really enjoyed the fun decor. Tried the charcoal cheese bread and traditional kaya toast, both were delicious and totally hit the spot. A cute place for a quick bite and some laid-back vibes.

Tried the black charcoal bread with cheese and chicken. Crispy bread with juicy meat and come with a cup of tea with milk. Try the special drink if you can take coffee, the fragrance of the drink is strong.

Nice sandwiches, food is served fast. Mee siam is not to my liking where it's just chilli oil Bee Hoon with no chives or bean sprouts. Very cheap ingredients that can be added to enhance the taste

Coffee shop
Otak Shiduoli is a popular spot in JB known for its delicious Otak-Otak, a spicy and flavorful fish dish wrapped in attap leaves and grilled to perfection. The shop also offers old-style Nasi Lemak, fried bee hoon, dry mee siam, fried fritters, and traditional Nanyang kopi and teh. It's recommended to arrive early as the Otak-Otak sells out quickly due to its high demand.
Wah… this otah sold out fast! We arrived at 10.10am. Their otah left with only 10 fish head. I went to ask my wife & friends. Alamak, it was sold out by the time I went back in minutes! We ordered the Nasi Lemak. Luckily the lady boss came by to tell us that she has spare 8pieces of fish meat otah for us! Thanks for the special otah for us! She said the otah has got no preservatives, so her supply is limited. When we having our meal, there are at least 5 person coming to order the otah, lady boss has to explain to them that the otah were sold out !!!

Friendly staff who was patient in explaining how things worked. Nasi lemak was the old school type, packed in banana leaf and brown paper. Each pack includes an omelette triangle, ikan bilis and sambal chilli. Otak, fried eggs and fish balls are ordered on the side. Most patrons add 6-10 otaks each! To be honest, food is not fantastic. Rice is a bit cold since it’s been pre-packed. It’s also not very fragrant. Sambal chilli is so-so. Otak is tasty but has no fish meat inside. Having said that, it only costs RM 1.20, so I guess it’s acceptable. 2 packs of nasi lemak, 8 otaks and 2 coffees costed us RM20.

Arrived around 8:30am and all the food was still available. This is a go-to spot for Johorians in the morning for nasi lemak and otak-otak. Tried their mee siam, it tasted quite different from the usual, and I loved it! They offer two types of otak: fish meat and fish head. The fish head version has more meat but comes with some bones.
Christy C — Google review
The nasi lemak was decent, with a nice sambal that had just the right level of spiciness. However, the rice quality could be improved. The otak was below expectations, with a texture more like fish cake and lacked fish taste. Service was prompt and friendly. Overall, an average dining experience.
Vin W — Google review
Food rating note: Average - 2.5/5 My comfort food - 5/5 Mediocre. Nasi lemak didn't have the burst of coconut fragrance. Otah was not flavourful. The meal was a 2.6/5

Delicious nasi lemak and otak here. Been around for many years always good. Good coffee and tea. We had two nasi, ten otaks and two drinks and the bill was $23 RM.

Otak Shiduoli is the best place to have Otak-Otak in JB. They used to be at Jalan Storey, but shifted to their own restaurant a few years ago. Their Otak-Otak is best eaten when fresh off the grill, while it’s still hot. They are ready to serve their customers at 6:30am and most of the early birds would arrive around 7am. Do come before 10am if possible as they might run out of stocks for all their food by 10:30am.

Chinese noodle restaurant
Kedai Makanan Sang Heng 甡興茶餐室 is a legendary restaurant situated on Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, boasting over fifty years of history. Renowned for its Teochew mee pok, kuey teow, fish balls, and braised duck and pork, this old-school eatery has retained its traditional flavors through generations-old recipes.
This is the 4th generation and over 50 years of braised herbal duck and mee pok. The braised duck is strong in herbal taste and dark in colour. Their mee pok serving in “white” with vinegar and chilli sauce. Nice and comfortable environment for morning breakfast and afternoon lunch or tea.
Lennox C — Google review
I’m not sure if my expectations on mee pok should be compared with the singapore one but this shop doesn’t serves nothing like the one in Singapore. Ordered the dry and soup version one. Dry version was just slightly acceptable for me. But the soup version was depressing. The soup broth was overpowered with squid taste and smell which was too pungent IMO. The side dishes was also slightly depressing with thier presentation and taste as well.
Kah F — Google review
We have been regular patron since they were still in downtown back then. It has been our childhood memory food. However down the years ,the taste has been different now,the noodles is more soggy ,fish ball is not as chewy and flavourful than before.the braised duck is also quite dry as compared than previous.
Ching Y — Google review
tried their food (in 2019) in the original place at Jalan Tan Hiok Nee nearby the Hiap Joo Bakery, like their mee pok and soup then. So this trip to Johor, thought wanna bring my family to try their food especially their mee pok. But it does not taste the same. The mee pok not chewwy and abit soggy and the soup not that clear but very thick more like the ipoh kai see hor fun soup. maybe some will said my memory might recall wrongly, anyhow for a review on a new shop, the taste really did not give the urge to purposely to come and try it in my next trip to Johor. I prefer those braised stuff from KL.
Kenix A — Google review
Came here twice and they were not open. Finally get to try their noodle. They moved from downtown to here 6 months ago. The noodle taste the same like before in downtown, I like it because it’s even softer. The braised items are nice, especially the tofu. Very disappointed with the braised egg, it was clearly just hard boiled and added the gravy then served to us. They should just tell us that they ran out of braised egg, I would have order something else. A tasteless hard boiled egg with gravy, is a big let down. I hope they can correct this serving mistake.
Sibyl T — Google review
Just browsing for a place for lunch, preferably air-conditioned and authentic Chinese meal. Lady boss is very friendly and recommends their heirlooms dishes. The noodles and yam spring rolls and braised meat and duck. Everything was spot on, lived up to more then 50 years old tradition, currently 4th generation took over this eatery, was from Tan Hiok Nee, the Johor Bahru Old Town but due to new construction they decided to move out of town. Here in Permas Jaya, just 7.6KM away from their previous establishment, ample of car park and near to Jaya Jusco. Food is good, the soup is out of the world. Loved the tofu and the braised gravy. I would come here often now since I just found the Jewel of old Johore.
Philip — Google review
This stall definitely not to be missed. Its had been around this area for a long time. Their noodles are well cooked and texture are great. Fresh ingredients. Their prawn soup is the soul of this bowl of noodles, aromatic and rich taste. Must try their side dishes. Braised duck meat are tender, and the braised sauce is nice. Fried tofu, outside golden brown and inside soft. Yam roll, is nice also. Friendly stall owner and staff. Highly recommended. *Because of the on going construction outside the shop they might be moving to another location. Do check out with them.
Terence L — Google review
Tried both the soup and dry versions. They were generous with the lard, but overall it was an average meal. The soup had an artificially sweet taste, despite the stall’s claim of no added sugar. Verdict: Worth a quick bite if you’re in the area, but not something to travel out of the way for.

Meldrum Walk Street Foods in Medan Selera Meldrum Walk is a bustling hub of local Malaysian delicacies, offering a wide array of dishes such as Fried Kway Teow, BBQ Stingray, Oyster Omelette, and Chicken Wings. The Oyster Omelette is particularly popular for its perfect egg-to-oyster ratio and fresh, juicy oysters. The food street provides a diverse range of Asian cuisine with different aromas and comforting qualities along the walk.
Mainly the food is nice, the chicken rice is a must have. Other stalls are also a must try. The only negative is the atmosphere,, the side walk, the drain is smelly. Gov have to really improve on this. Since one side of the road is on going upgrades due to the SG my mrt.

Street food so do not expect it to be properly clean and tidy. Tried the mutton soup today and it tasted so good. Choice of just meat or with bones etc. owner is friendly and food is delicious. Can choose either rice or bread. Came at 4:30pm to beat the crowd.

Though dirty and smelly, there is some cheap food here. The BBQ chicken wings and fried oyster really nice. Buy satay and walk to other stalls to pack other things. Came back but find owner gone to prayers... Waited for 30mins but no come back.

Wed 16 Aug 2023 As suggested by AI-generated information on travel and food in JB, we decided to explore this street food enclave for dinner. We took a Grab taxi from our hotel and arrived at the area in less than 5 minutes. After a 20 minutes walk around and we managed to locate the row of popular street food at the back lanes of rows of shops. We planned to eat the famed mutton soup there and packed some chicken Or Chieng fried oyster omelette and grilled fish. We had a delightful meal at one of the soup kambing places. However, the oyster omellete was sold out and the grilled fish stalls were closed for the day. Instead, we managed to pack a delicious pork porridge with an egg, some yummy BBQ chicken wings and delectable fried bee hoon with superb wok hei from three different stalls. We enjoyed the packed meals later in the comfort of our hotel room. The stall owners were friendly and prices were wallet-friendly.

Love the surrounding atmoshpere although it is not as bisy or crowded during pre-covid. Have not eaten @ Shi Cheng BBQ Fish for the past 2 years. Glad to see the mother & son are still operating the stall. Was told that she might retire since her children are working. Hope still can eat the stingray & fried petai w/ladies fingers. Dishes look normal but love the chilli & eat at this environment that can't be found in SGP. Loom forward to come back to have the bbq stingray again.

I've witnessed its change from pre-covid to current post-covid, much cleaner place now. Many stall owners continue to work hard to survive. My 1st stop always to my favourite stall Daud Kambing Soup ...soup still as rich, flavourful & generous w/ ingredients, the humble boss as hardworking!😃 I happen to come across surprising new & worthy finds!!... ** Taiwanese street food stall (braised pork rice, crispy XL chicken, potato fries, mushrooms, etc ...even rendang chicken rice!) ...only 6mth old (boss previously sells chicken rice), I tried crispy XL chicken & mushroom, really tasty & great value for money! ** Peach gum (桃胶) dessert @Dim Sum stall, rare find for the beauty conscious 😄(next to Taiwanese street food stall) ...I thought it was Cheng Tng! So glad I didn't miss it!😃 ** Bakery inside corner of coffeeshop 老新山 (new stall aft MCO in a clean, airy coffeeshop), sells assortment of pastries. I tried & WOW...soft, crispy, char siew buns ...crispy, fluffy curry puffs ...eggs tarts w/ rich custard!! I didn't expect such changes & there seems to be more to explore & revisit!😃

I visited on a Monday evening and it was pretty dead. Most stalls were not opened. I opted for the oyster omelette towards the southern end of the street. The large portion came with around half a dozen decent sized oysters. The others were puny and deflated looking. Taste was ok. I asked for spicy and it was barely spicy. The sauce was a bit spicy but still not enough for me. The sugar cane plum drink tasted watered down. I also had the grilled chicken wings towards the middle of the street and they were tasty. I ordered three pieces and two were decent sized but the third one was puny. Service was nice and friendly.

Salahuddin Bakery, a cherished establishment since 1937, is a delightful gem located on Jalan Dhoby. This family-run bakery has been lovingly passed down through generations and continues to embrace traditional baking methods using coal-fired ovens. Here, you can find an array of baked goods including classic cakes, loaves of bread, pastries, and muffins all beautifully displayed in golden hues. The bakery prides itself on offering affordable yet authentic treats that evoke nostalgia for the past.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Timeless Gem in Johor — Salahuddin Bakery Salahuddin Bakery — a name that truly resonates with tradition and legacy in Johor. Established in 1937, this legendary bakery has been around for 88 years, still baking the old-fashioned way using wood-fired ovens and recipes passed down through four generations. It’s not just a place to buy bread — it’s like stepping into a living museum of Malaysian baking heritage. I first tried to visit their original Jalan Dobi location in 2022 but arrived too late — everything was sold out by 5 PM. Finally made it to the Bandar Baru Uda branch today and wow — the aroma alone brought back childhood memories I didn’t even know I had. Picked up the roti kelapa (coconut bun) and butter cake, both incredibly soft and fragrant — exactly like how grandma would make it. But the real surprise was the croissant-shaped karipap kambing (mutton curry puff). Buttery, flaky layers with rich, spiced mutton inside — absolutely genius! No preservatives, no nonsense — just pure, soulful baking. Highly recommend if you're in Johor. Come early — these sell out fast!

Love this bakery for their old school style breads baked using their wood-fired oven. The bread's aroma hits differently than other mass-market baked goods. Bread's texture is moist and hefty, so much more satisfying than the airy mass that we find mostly in other bakeries. Baker-owner is the 4th gen running this bakery. Ever so friendly whenever we visit. We love the plain buns, sugar loaves and red bean buns. Highly recommended!!!

Definitely in love with the food here!! Pan fried salmon salad is fulfilling and healthy, the lavender early grey cake is super fragant, texture is just right, not too rich and not sweet, balance-flavoured with the cream.. add the matcha black sesame bread, it was heated before serving and tastes good, a very perfect meal combination which uplifts the mood!

The food here was good. If they can give more dressing will be better cause personally I find a bit dry. Service was good and the service crews there always smiling. 👏🏼 coffee was great too! We also ordered the lemon cake, surprisingly taste very good and light, we really enjoy the food here.

Cosy Cafe Away from the Bustle I enjoyed spending my morning here, a lovely and quiet spot to have a meal and unwind. The food we had was good and decent. My only small gripe was that the matcha was a bit on the bitter side for my taste, which shouldn't be the case, but overall, it was a pleasant experience. Their cakes look alright, will try the next time when I'm back. ✨Smoky Cauliflower Bowl RM24.00+ Baked paprika cauliflowers, mixed beans salad, quinoa, green leaves salad, burnt green pepper. Great environment to chill. The hummus was great. The lemongrass chicken could be done better, very dry maybe you shouldn’t had fried it. Coffee could have done better, it’s not the smooth kind.

There's more seatings upstairs where one can indulge the nostalgic and cozy ambience. Visited here before lunch time and there wasn't much customers during this time. Ordered the Lemongrass Chicken and Mexican Breakfast.

The vibes of this cafe are really nice and aesthetic, but the food kind of fell short…it’s not necessarily bad, just didn’t live up to the expectations I had, so I’d give it a 3/5. I think if you’re into healthier options, this cafe would be fine. We ordered the pan seared salmon salad, avocado toast & pineapple lemonade (it’s like a soda). Service was decent.
Anesha — Google review
Visited on a weekday 1pm and managed to find seatings on level 2 of the cafe. Ecstatically it's prettily decorated with leafy greens and flowers from exterior walls to the interior windows so this certainly lifted up mood while dining. However found one half of level 2 that's without air-conditioning too hot and stuffy to dine in, while the other half with air-conditioning was barely cool(perhaps due to the open windows concept). So this kinda reduce the entire dining experience. The cafe do serve up not bad brunch as well as mains, cafes and self concocted drinks. Probably worth a visit if ard the area once for its esthetic atmosphere dining, but not a revisit due to the rather humid uncomfortable temperature during a hot day as well as non-memorable food fare. Service crew was friendly though with standard cafe pricing that does not burn a deep hole in pocket! Total damage for 2 mains, 1 slice of cake and 2 drinks came up to around RM110.

JWC, The Factory 30 offers a serene setting for high tea within a modern interior design. It provides the JWC Super Value High Tea Box featuring an assortment of desserts like lemon yogurt dessert cup, Madeleine, Macaroons, Blueberry tart, and Sumikko Gurashi Meringue. Guests can complement their high tea experience with options like Coconut Latte or the Seasonal Drink series.
First time here after hearing many food reviews, and I must say it’s a great spot! The moment you walk in, the aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans lingers at the entrance. The industrial chic decor makes it a nice place to chill with friends for a chill cafe brunch. Food ordered for 2 pax: 1. Hungry Jack Big Breakfast (RM30): a classic, hearty portion with a bagel. Definitely filling! 2. JWC Beef Stew with Potato Puree (RM38): tender beef, rich flavours, and the potato puree was very smooth and comforting. This dish took 40 mins to come… 3. Pulled Chicken Taco (RM17): chicken itself was well seasoned, I enjoyed it. BUT the cream cheese was too heavy. It overpowered the chicken instead of balancing it. Shld never let the two strong flavours be together, they clashed 👎🏻 4. Spicy Wagyu Beef Skewer (RM20/stick): Juicy, tender, would order again. Drinks & Dessert: 1. Coconut Latte (RM18): Refreshing but slightly lacking balance between coconut and coffee. 2. Mocha: Nothing to rave abt. 3. Tiramisu (RM20.5): Sigh… unfortunately the worst I have had... The ladyfingers were frozen solid, making it hard to enjoy.. It lacked the delicate, creamy-soaked texture I expect; instead it was icy, dense, and disconnected from the mascarpone. Perhaps it’s JWC style, but it really didn’t work. Just do it the traditional way. Overall, still a lovely place to hangout be it a couple’s date or chilling with friends or just gathering with your family. Will come try other coffee products and food the next time.
Yun T — Google review
I recently visited this establishment and sampled a range of their offerings. The coffee chicken and pesto pasta were, at best, average. While the concept of coffee-infused chicken intrigued me, the execution lacked depth in flavor. Unfortunately, I also encountered an undercooked piece of chicken during the meal. To the staff's credit, the issue was handled promptly and professionally. Mistakes happen in any kitchen, and I was fortunate to notice it before consumption. For dessert, I tried both the Tie Guan Yin tart and the duo of brownies — the sizzling version and a standard one paired with vanilla ice cream. The brownies were a letdown; the texture was airy, the chocolate lacked richness, and the accompanying ice cream had a generic, artificial quality that didn’t do the dish any favors. In contrast, the Tie Guan Yin tart stood out. It had a balanced sweetness, a pleasing texture, and a subtle yet distinctive tea flavor that offered a refreshing break from typical dessert fare. If I were to return, it would be for the dessert specifically the tart and the inviting atmosphere. There’s promise in the concept, but the food execution remains inconsistent.

Nice place to have a meal for big groups. Menu had a lot of choices. I had the Coffee flavoured chicken chop, quite tender. There were a lot of choices for desserts as well. The Chocolate waffle was a hit with the children.
Dawn L — Google review
The environment was decent, though the seating left much to be desired—far from comfortable, and the space felt a little warm. The place was packed, yet to their credit, the service remained attentive despite the crowd. We visited specifically for the desserts but left somewhat disappointed. The offerings leaned noticeably on the less-sweet side, which may appeal to those who prefer a lighter touch of sugar. However, they didn’t quite meet my expectations in terms of indulgence or flavor depth. Overall, while the atmosphere and service were commendable, the desserts lacked the richness and satisfaction I had hoped for.

Lovely ambience on a hot Saturday afternoon. Soft music, spacious place. The beef stew is delightful - really lived up to its reputation. Thanks for the gastronomical experience. The waffle is so pretty with pretty pastel colour combination, and well paired with the 3 icecream flavours. Love the additional touch with the 8-petal waffle.

Food was pretty delicious. Quite intrigued by the western fusion food, curry beef stew rice was great and portion was generous. Salmon served with truffle mushroom soup was interesting and pleasant. Also had the fried mac and cheese for the sides, sauce was slightly overpowering the mac and cheese flavour but the texture was great, would have loved if it was more cheesy! Quite interesting to see a cool concept of western fusion food apart from the usual cafe food in JB. Service was nice and pleasant. Very spacious to move around the cafe as well.
Terence L — Google review
A great spot for coffee lovers, but be prepared to pay a little more. Stepping into JWC Coffee Cafe is a treat. The space is large and airy with a cool, industrial-chic vibe—the converted container look is very unique and well-executed. There's plenty of seating across two levels, so it's a good place to meet friends or even get some work done. The atmosphere is bustling and lively, especially on weekends. Most importantly, the coffee is top-notch. It's clear they take their craft seriously, and the quality of the beans and brewing is excellent. Whether you're a fan of a classic pour-over or a creamy latte, you won't be disappointed. My only minor critique is that the prices are a bit on the higher side. While the quality of the coffee justifies it for a special treat, it might not be your everyday go-to if you're on a tight budget. Overall, JWC is a fantastic cafe for those who appreciate high-quality coffee and a great atmosphere. It's perfect for a weekend outing. Would I recommend? Yes, definitely. Just be aware that it's a bit pricy. ✅ Coffee: Superb ✅ Price: Above Average ✅ Highlight: definitely coffee

Must try: Onion Fries We ordered main dishes Salmon Miso, Seafood Risotto and side of onion fries. Also matcha strawberry drink. All were delicious! I’m particularly impressed with the onion fries. Decent food but nothing special, we ordered the crispy onions, fries and i got the risotto and was able to try the curry udon. The fries and onion were worth a try, hot and crispy but the mains were nothing special, decent food with decent flavour. Slightly on the expensive side. This place has great service but the decor was a bit weird and all over the place. Atmosphere was nice though, very quiet and chill.

Was here to check out the Big Bath and randomly found this cafe. It’s a simple place with retro and nostalgic decor, clean toilets and our orders tasted superb! Bloom coffee may be a bit sweet but i guess the trick is to start with the foam and tilt so that the coffee parts flow through - it’s a coffee rich taste. We also ordered mushroom soup - with real mushroom chunks - and Souffle (MUST TRY)! Staff were attentive and friendly as well.

this cafe looks pretty when you enter…. and i’m so pleased to say that the food tastes even better. most pretty cafes serve subpar food but not Bloom. we came in a group of 9, and ordered a wide variety of dishes, from pastas, to sides, to soup, to udon… every single dish slapped. it was so good. nothing was bad, which was a pleasant surprise, because again, most places would have dishes that are a miss. everyone was so happy and pleased with their dish, and i’m also happy to say that the service from the staff are a 10/10. will definitely bring more friends back!
