Trunk Bay is a must-visit snorkeling spot located on St. John's East End, at the edge of the Virgin Islands National Park. Accessible via a narrow path from the roadside parking lot, this beach offers stunning underwater structures and corals that make it a bucket-list destination for snorkelers.
Stunningly beautiful. Great snorkeling. Not crowded at all really since there are so many choices of beaches. We did get there early-ish. 9 am or so.

An incredible beach and well worth the effort if you are taking a cruise to St Thomas. I made a video about going to St John / Trunk Bay. It's one of the most beautiful beaches you can visit. Such an amazing place!
Alex Y — Google review
Paradise om Earth ? You found it !Trunk Bay is nothing short of majestic beauty. The moment you arrive, you are greeted with crystal-clear turquoise waters that look like they’ve been painted by hand, and the softest, finest white sand that feels like silk under your feet. This is truly one of the most breathtaking beaches in the Caribbean — perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or simply soaking in paradise. We spent hours enjoying the pristine water and the postcard-worthy scenery. The panoramic views, whether from the shore or looking out at the lush green island just offshore, are unforgettable. It’s the kind of place that makes you wish time could stop. A couple of practical notes for future visitors: Transportation: If you’re coming by cruise ship into Cruz Bay, taxis are the main way to reach Trunk Bay. While they’re efficient, the drivers can sometimes be a bit abrupt or even rude. One important thing to remember: they will not wait for you if you are not back at the vehicle at the exact time they say. Plan your beach time carefully to avoid being stranded. Food & drinks: There is only one food shack on the beach. While convenient, the prices are quite high compared to what you’d expect. Definitely bring extra cash (not all places take cards) and, if possible, pack a few snacks and water beforehand. Even with these small inconveniences, Trunk Bay is absolutely worth the trip. It is a slice of paradise that combines natural beauty, tranquility, and the magic of the Caribbean. If you’re visiting St. John, don’t miss it — this is one of those places that stays with you forever.

This has to be one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world. There is an extra fee for this beach. It's $5 a person. Totally worth it. There's also food and drinks available. There's a snorkel tour underwater that you can do by yourself.
Caitlin C — Google review
Beautiful, blue water, clean sand, and hardly any crowds. It's about 5 bucks a person to enter here - but it's worth the price. The parking lot is small, which cuts down on the crowds here. There is an underwater snorkeling trail marked out by a few buoys you can follow out to Trunk Cay. It's not the best in the world, but it's very accessible an in a calm, easy bay. There are nice bathroom and shower facilities here as well.
Greg E — Google review
Beautiful beach, great snorkeling. Hard to describe in words! Food and drinks were awesome and this is part of the park services ! Well done!
Courtney S — Google review
The most beautiful place I’ve ever visited so far! We took a cruise from the US and ported in St. Thomas. We wanted to check off a bucket list place by visiting St. John. A U.S. National Park. The timing was perfect on a beautiful day, the first week in September. I would definitely do a destination trip to this island as I would love to explore it more. Must see if you love God’s nature on land and sea.
Amy H — Google review
One if the calmest beaches in St Johns. Get there early and find a good spot. Great for snorkeling and just hanging on the beach. If you are staying in St. Thomas take the ferry over to St. John.

Maho Bay Beach, located on the northern side of St. John within Virgin Islands National Park, is a popular destination for snorkeling enthusiasts. The beach offers crystal clear waters and a white sand shoreline, with two stunning reefs bordering the bay. Visitors can easily spot sea turtles near the seagrass areas and swim alongside them in the shallow waters.
Incredible! Much less crowded than Trunk Bay! Wonderful place to snorkel. We saw turtles, barracuda, sting ray, and tons of interesting fish! We loved or new friend, James! He makes the best tasting drinks. Make sure to find him at the bar a little further down from the entrance! Get The Lime in the Coconut! Lots of shade. You can rent everything you need for a fun beach day. There are 2 different vendors who sell chairs so check prices. Avg price is between $15 and $20 per chair. Shop it out first to get the best price! Didn’t see the donkeys this visit! Maybe later in the week!
Sandy S — Google review
Beach was a bit busy and parking was tough but we found a spot. And then found a good spot off to the far right in the shade. Beach was amazing and the family was able to snorkeling and got to see turtles, and fish along with crabs tying to exchange shells.
Crystal B — Google review
Beautiful and not terribly crowded beach area. The limited parking (pretty much just the side of the road) limits the crowding, and the beach is just feet away from the road. Snorkeling here was not great for us. There's no coral - just turtle grass here. So we saw about 2 fish while out here and nothing else. One guy claimed to have seen a sea turtle - which seem to be common here.
Greg E — Google review
Maho. Just go. Get there early. Smaller than Trunk and Cinnamon, but parking is close and the beach is beautiful. More sheltered than Cinnamon which means less wind and less waves. Saw a four foot string ray and some smaller rays. Plenty of turtles! There have cabanas with picnic tables for free if you get there early. They have a beach bar and souvenir shop too. I recommend a Lime In The Coconut.
BlueBox M — Google review
I've been to many islands and many beaches, and to me.This is the most beautiful beach in the world. It is stunning the water the surroundings. Perfect day for snorkeling and exploring. you can swim around and see all types of fishies and turtles. Across the street, they have food, trucks and dream trucks, perfect for a day at the beach. I recommend this beach to everyone. It's a once in a lifetime, please to visit

This beach is very awesome, beautiful and secluded. Gifts and eats after located across the street. The sand is white, the water is emerald, very good place to spend the day on a beach.

Honeymoon Beach is a stunning location on St. John's East End, situated at the edge of the Virgin Islands National Park. Accessible via a narrow path from East End Road, this beach offers breathtaking underwater scenery with vibrant corals and diverse marine life. Snorkelers can explore rocky patch reefs adorned with sea fans, gorgonians, mustard corals, and brain coral in 5 to 15 feet of water.
I parked at the tourist center and took the trail over. It was a pretty flat trail, and great for running! I think on a map the lower trail looks longer, but it’s flatter. The upper trail goes uphill a little bit and looks shorter on a map. I ran into a couple coming down from NPS offices, but it seems like a much harder hike. The beach was beautiful! There are snack bars, bars, and plenty of space. It looks like the two roads leading into the beach are private and not for public vehicles.
M H — Google review
Amazing free spot to go swimming and snorkeling. Beach club right there if you want to rent chairs or buy food / drinks. Accessible via shuttle or hiking.
Matt B — Google review
Our favorite beach on st john, not crowded, great snorkeling, friendly staff and the best drinks we had at any beach on the island
Steve M — Google review
This is a great spot to start your day or finish your hike! The staff are super friendly and understanding of a hot day on the beach ... the food and service was excellent! They even promote aluminum cups!
Ken R — Google review
One of our favorite beaches that is less populated and stunning. I love the chair and F&B service available! The staff are incredibly kind and the drinks and food were great! We parked at Caneel Bay Resort and paid $24 for the shuttle to the beach and chaise chairs once at the beach.
Erin — Google review
Gorgeous beach ! Crystal clear water, amazing snorkeling, come to see the sea turtles. Tropical fish swim among your feet when your just waist deep in the water. No rocks, amazing sand. Boats in the bay. Just picture perfect, quiet and amazing. Must see. Crabs walk on the paths behind the beach.
Dr. T — Google review
Honeymoon beach is beautiful, quiant, with wonderful blue waters. Unlike the previous reviews their isn't a place to rent chairs or umbrellas. I'm not sure if this was because I went on Wednesday. The beach is very secluded so a 30 minute hike from the ferry was the best option to get there and back.
A E — Google review
One of the best beaches I have ever visited!! It was clean and not crowded (may be I was there during off session in May). There is a trail from the road that leads to this spectacular beach, around 15 to 20 minutes of walking downhill. There is a nice little food place with sandwiches and drinks! A store to buy or rent floaters, chairs, paddleboats, etc, with washroom and changing rooms.. They close by 5pm, so please buy your food and drinks before that. Beautiful at sunset too! People don't stay after 6 or 7pm as it is little isolated. I LOVED THIS BEACH!!!

Cinnamon Bay is a picturesque destination on the island of St. John, featuring a stunning white sand beach and the remnants of an 1800s plantation. The Cinnamon Bay Natural Trail leads to America Hill Ruins, offering breathtaking views and a memorable hiking experience. Visitors can explore the Reef Bay Trail with mysterious petroglyphs or hike to Rams Head for panoramic ocean views. Snorkeling enthusiasts can bring their gear to discover St.
Absolutely beautiful! The hike down to Cinnamon Bay wasn't bad at all, my mom did it in flip flops. Cinnamon Bay, located in the Virgin Islands National Park, is a stunning beach that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and relaxation. The hike down to the beach is a rewarding experience in itself, with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Once you reach the beach, you'll be greeted by soft, white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The water is incredibly warm and inviting, making it perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or simply wading in the shallows. The beach is also a great spot to relax and soak up the sun. With its stunning scenery, pristine waters, and peaceful atmosphere, Cinnamon Bay is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to St. John.

Nice beach to hang out and catch some sun and ocean waves. Not great for snorkeling and it gets packed with local tourists and those coming over from St. Thomas for the day. Parking can be a challenge as well. Go early to grab a spot.
C L — Google review
Everyone talks about Trunk Bay being the most beautiful in the world, but do not skip this one! We packed up early and walked to the very far end near the black rocks. Spent the whole day relaxing feeling like we were the only ones on the beach. Everyone clears out at 4 to catch their cruise’s or their dinner plans so if you want that picturesque sunset walk on the beach, you’ll get it! We snorkeled a lot on St.John so the days we came here we drank the day away :). A short walk back to the entrance and amazing painkillers, strong ones too! Don’t let people on Facebook groups scare you, bring your Neso and just be considerate of others
Christy S — Google review
In our first appriach we were not going to visit this beach thinking in Trunk beach as our first option, however after visiting Cinamon Beach I will say that it's a paradaise. Super good installations food, clear waters and a bay that will make you dream. This is a must, dont forget it!
Paco N — Google review
Without a doubt my favorite beach! Of course I haven’t been to all, but this one was just breathtaking!! No entry fee, we took a taxi but there was parking. Bathrooms are available & little food/drink shack
Ann B — Google review
This beach is hard to describe in words. It IS GORGEOUS. Soft sand, barely a shell or rock in the ocean and crystal clear waters. Great for snorkeling or just floating on your back! We found fresh coconuts and beautiful coral when walking down the beach. I need to go back!!!!
Jade Z — Google review
What an absolutely gorgeous beach. I would have loved to have spent the day here, but we had a laundry list of things to see. We were in search of the “window” that I had seen everywhere when researching the area and then learned that it’s right as you walk from the parking lot, down the sidewalk, to the beach. I was thinking we had to do some major hiking to get to it, but not the case. The parking is ample and the beach is pretty big. You may even catch a glimpse of a cute little deer passing through.
Ali B — Google review
By far my favorite beach on St. John. Not at all crowded like Trunk Bay, although the campground there is still closed from Irmaria so it may be more crowded when that opens. Sugar sand beach, clear water, and good snorkeling. Take the time to go across the street and take the trail through the ruins on a self-guided tour.

Hawksnest Beach, located on the North side of the island, is a picturesque sandy beach with clear waters that are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It's known as one of the best snorkeling spots in the Virgin Islands National Park, offering opportunities to observe beautiful elkhorn coral and colorful fish. The beach also provides access to nearby secluded spots like Gibneys Beach/Oppenheimer Beach and offers a somewhat challenging swim around the rocks.
Definitely our favorite beach on St John. There was also a great spot on the right hand side of the beach for snorkeling. We saw all kinds of turtles and pretty fish. Parking is kind of limited, which is kind of nice because the beach doesn't get too busy/crowded.
Laura C — Google review
Very nice beach Crystal clear Emerald water at the beach.
TNBIGMAN — Google review
Excellent beach with crystal clear water. You can swim over to gibney/oppenheimer beach from there and back.
Muris D — Google review
Beautiful beach. There is a large reef area straight out about 50 feet from the shore. The water here has some stronger waves but there were lots of fish and the beach was nice.
Matt L — Google review
Went on a cloudier day but it was still SO GORGEOUS! Spacious but not too wide or large. There are bbq grills that work with coal, and easy parking in front . Loved it here!
Isabelle — Google review
Hawksnest Beach is a great beach if you want calm waves, snorkeling and crystal clear water. The difference between Maho Bay and Hawksnest Beach is that Hawksnest beach is much wider and has more beach so there are more places to find both sun and shade, it also has good snorkeling (but not great), it’s more convenient due to its close distance to Cruz Bay. It has restroom facilities and picnic tables and good parking. There is no hike to the beach. However, on some days the waves can actually get quite rough. Definitely one of my favorite beaches on St John!
Bronwyn R — Google review
Beautiful Sandy Beaches smaller once you are actually on the beach than you may expect but this beach is not too crowded, maybe because you need too take a boat from Saint Thomas to Saint John, then à taxi/bus to beach. The water is nice and warm. A great place to relax the day away. FYI I actually did see Hawks... thus the name of the beach. I really loved this beach.
Jim T — Google review
Gorgeous beach, with slightly less crowds than most—this little gem has some of the neatest waves crashing throughout. With a nice little sheltered picnic area and working facilities that weren’t damaged by the hurricanes like most of the others.

Hansen Bay Beach, situated on the scenic south side of St. John near Coral Bay, is a must-visit spot for snorkeling enthusiasts. Accessible via East End Road beyond Coral Bay, this beach boasts stunning underwater structures and coral formations that make it a top destination for snorkelers. The beach offers limited parking along the left-hand side after descending a steep hill and following a narrow path northeastward.
This is my new happy place! Sitting under a palm tree looking out at crystal clear blue/aqua water while watching iguanas, chickens, goats, donkeys, birds, geckos, soldier crabs, and anoles. The beach is clearly an east end local favorite, and it's easy to see why. They have chairs and cabanas spread out for use. The beach is donate to enter (no recommended amounts are posted, but it's easy to want to be a little more generous to keep this place amazing). Plenty of on site parking, there are some porta potties to use, and the Love City public WiFi reaches here as well! The attendant is super friendly and knowledgeable, he told us about Thalia (the landowner) whose family has owned this beach since the 1700's! They'll point out great spots to snorkel and tell you about some of their more frequent visiting wildlife to be on the lookout for as well! This is a place I will absolutely visit again, and would highly recommend everyone check out!
Eric B — Google review
We made the travel here. We were staying at Cruz bay so it’s a 40min drive. Honestly compared to all the other beaches I’d say it’s not worth the effort. Go to salt Pond bay. 13minutes away. We try to hit two beaches a day and this one was just ok. But hey honestly they all are still great 👍
Matt — Google review
My husband and I visited this private beach in late Feb. 2023. The owner Thalia was very nice and we had no problem making a donation to help with beach up keep. It's nice she makes the beach available for visitors. There are beautiful palm trees for shade and picnic tables, but during high season ALL the beaches are busy. So arrive early (before 9am) or bring your own shade. Thanks for letting me fly my drone, Thalia!
Joan H — Google review
My wife had this beach on her list of places to go because of the promise of meeting local pet lovers. She did well when she found this happy place. Love this beach. Love the people. Love the critters. Love the remoteness. I give it over five stars, but only three on the review because I’m a little bit selfish and don’t want the algorithm to attract anyone who doesn’t take the time to read the details. There’s a lot of details to unpack about this part of the island. Bring your own food and drink. (Pack them out too, no trash service… but if you made it this far you probably already understand that) There is a porta potty and plenty of beach play for the day supplies on site. Bring a little cash to put in the kitty. They won’t hassle you if you don’t have a lot to spare. It closes early, but then so does the rest of VI.. Since it also gets dark early you’re likely to be very ready to sleep after a day in this warm salty breeze. Roads were tiny and steep, but much better condition than some more popular beaches.
Gerald B — Google review
Great little beach that is so peaceful. On private property and you make a donation to visit. It's great because Thalia, the owner, will watch your car and she has beach chairs, kayaks, and paddle boards you can borrow. Everyone was super friendly here. We snorkeled and saw a big stingray and the biggest sea turtle I've ever seen.
Katie K — Google review
Just another gem of a beach on St. John. This one is a short drive from Coral Bay and is stunning like many other beaches on the island. Waters are more protected versus the north shore beaches so it's very calm which is perfect for young kids learning how to snorkel. Excellent beach for families with younger children.
Mitch F — Google review
Was skeptical since it’s the only true dog beach on the island, but it was wonderful! The lady greeting you is so nice, the fact that they have kayaks and floating equipment for anyone to use is amazing. Plenty of space to sit and relax. Pristine waters. My dog and I loved it here! A bit of a hike to get to, but well worth it!!
Jonathan M — Google review
This is a very nice beach, although it is private. You will be asked to make a donation for everything that you do there. Snorkeling was good, lots of fish and corals, but that was about all we saw at this time of year (early Feb).

Cinnamon Bay Beach is a must-visit for active vacationers and beach enthusiasts alike. As one of the longest beaches on St. John, it offers a range of water sports activities such as snorkeling, windsurfing, and kayaking. Nestled within the Virgin Islands National Park, visitors can explore an old Danish building housing a temporary museum displaying archaeological findings from the area.
Beautiful beach, crystal clear waters, restrooms and anything you might need close by. No entry free. Honestly I think I liked this spot better than the famous Trunk Bay.
Sandra P — Google review
It’s not the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen… but it’s trying its best. Kinda like me before coffee. 🤣 Cinnamon bay is not as beautiful as Trunks Bay, the road leading to it is dangerous at times. Narrow roads and sharp turns are not made for a beginner driver. But here are some of the bright points. Here you don't have to pay for entry unlike Trunks bay and it looks more organized. The water are the same color of jade and turquoise mix and the sand is white. What else can you ask for? Maybe a cold local 🍻
Dan S — Google review
This is one of the most well-equipped beaches on this side of the island. They have nice bathrooms, open air showers, foot shower stations, places to change, a place to buy drinks, a campground, etc. It does tend to be more crowded than some of the other beaches. Even though the parking lot is small, the taxis drop a lot of people off here.
Greg E — Google review
Beautiful beach, gift shop, food truck, restrooms lots of parking 200 yard walk to the beach but it's worth it. Water is incredible...
TNBIGMAN — Google review
So much yes! If its windy sit on the left side of the beach. The closer you sit to the water the less wind-sand you get to the face. There were even little sand-devil (whirwinds) on the beach, which was cool to watch from the water. The sand is white. The water is so clear. Not a lot of vegetation or coral in close at this beach, which makes it perfect for swimming. They have a beach bar, and I highly recommend the frozen painkillers. You can also rent chairs and snorkel gear.
BlueBox M — Google review
Great beach! Easy to get to, loved to trail to the ruins!

Celebrated as "one of Top 10 beaches in the world" i concur that this is a true spot of paradise on Earth - crystal clear blue water, white fine-grain sand, low tides and simply excellent conditions for bathing and snorkling. Just a tad too windy for my taste and you have to get a car to get here as the drive to this secluded spot through bamboo forrests(!) and palm trees is quite long.

Waterlemon Cay is a popular spot for snorkeling and swimming, surrounded by a reef that offers the chance to see coral formations, turtles, rays, and conch. The crystal-clear waters off the coast of this cay are perfect for encountering marine life such as seahorses, starfish, and sea turtles. Accessible via the Leinster Bay Trail, it's just a short walk from Annaberg Parking lot to reach this picturesque island.
If you can’t go snorkeling with a boat, I do believe this is the best spot accessible from land. 3 things to be aware of - Wear water shoes. There are a lot of sea urchins where you get in the water. - We didn’t have any cell service once we hit the hiking trail. Which was fine. At the head of the trail you will have service from British Virgin island side. If you have to make phone call, be aware of your international plan. - Though not frequent, taxis do pass by if you don’t have a car. Just plan things early and you will be fine.
Tina L — Google review
This is a very nice snorkeling spot - mainly because it's away from people. We were the only ones here at the time. Beware of a few things: There are a ton of jellyfish. They are mostly moon jellyfish, which have a sting that doesn't hurt too bad (so I'm told), but I'd rather stay on the safe side. Around the Cay gets shallow and it's filled with sharp coral. Stay away from the shallow areas to avoid touching it. The same shallows are full of sea urchins. Be very careful - these things hurt a lot. I just spent the last hour digging spines out of my partner's hand. Just stay away. The waves are larger around here. It's not a great spot for children. Otherwise, we saw a HUGE green sea turtle and a lot of fish around here.
Greg E — Google review
One of our favorite snorkeling spots on St John. Nice hike in. The coral took a little abuse but seems to be coming back nice. Saw some sea turtles and a large barracuda as well. Will definitely return.
James K — Google review
Great snorkeling, have to be willing walk. Only carry what you need and be comfortable to carry it. Swim counter clockwise around the cay to catch the current back. Sharks, rays, barracudas, and plenty of fish. Not a tourist spot yet so very low key. Walk all the way to the point for the easiest access to the cay. Enjoy!
Jack S — Google review
Great snorkeling. Saw see turtles, nurse sharks and thousands of fish. Takes a good hike to get there but it was worth it.

First let’s be honest, it’s a hike, a hot hike. I had to carry all of our gear, took 30 minutes. On the way in prior to the cay there were sea turtles in the grass. I left my wife on the stones, no sand beach near the cay. The swim out to the cay was nice, saw a nurse shark under some coral. We swam counterclockwise around the cay as everyone says to. There were large coral and all the fish on the backside. Not saying it’s not worth it yet there’s better beaches on the island.
Robert M — Google review
The hike (its flat the whole way but about 20-25 minutes) is completely worth it for the incredible snorkeling! We saw an array of gorgeous fish including rainbow parrotfish, and also encountered a nurse shark. Just keep in mind the current when snorkeling here and be cautious. I recommend not doing this trip alone.

Probably best spot to snorkel on the island. In my opinion, Hawaii has much better spots, but def. worth the visit. Make sure you go for a dive at the beach prior the cat. There are sea turtles, sting rays there.

Francis Bay is a serene and tranquil beach located between Maho and Leinster Bays on the north shore of St. John. It offers a peaceful escape from the crowds, with opportunities to swim alongside sea turtles at the calm and shallow Maho Bay. The rocky north coast provides excellent snorkeling, especially during summer when large schools of silvery fish gather close to shore. The area is known for its pristine natural beauty and tranquility, as it is mostly owned by the National Park.
Beautiful bay. Plenty of moorings. Rarely full. Easy dinghy ride to mahoe bay.

Maho Bay is a must-visit snorkeling spot located on St. John's East End, at the edge of the Virgin Islands National Park. Accessible via a narrow path from East End Road, this tranquil bay offers stunning underwater structures and vibrant corals. Snorkelers can explore rocky patch reefs adorned with sea fans, gorgonians, mustard corals, brain coral, and fire corals in 5 to 15 feet of water.
This was our favorite beach during our trip. We only went to St John for 1 day. I wish we could've gone back for more. There was so much wildlife to see at this beach. Fantastic snorkeling along the northeast side. We saw lobsters, moray eels, sting rays, conches, along with an abundance of tropical fish. We also saw several sea turtles over the grass beds in the middle of the bay. Not overcrowded. Beautiful calm water. Free access and parking (besides the ferry ride to St John). Bathrooms could have been cleaner, but that was the only negative.
G B — Google review
Beach is really nice and water is very calm. A little bit of a hike to get out here with very steep narrow roads, so not for the squeamish. Good amount of sea life, we saw small fish, a shark and a star fish. Turtles are pretty far out all the way to the far end of the bay so a bit of a hike in somewhat cloudy water. Lots of shade available, sun won’t creep out over the mountains until 1-2pm.
Noah R — Google review
By far my most favourite spot on the US Virgin island . The bay area accommodates 30 plus mornings for boats and very protected from the easterly winds. Great spots to park you dingy and enjoy all the amenities of the beach . Plenty of parking for cars coming from Cruz Bay, be aware of the park ranger they cruise the area handing out tickets, or at time she comes on the loud speaker asking people to move first lol. Great girl The beach area offers a cool little area for shopping, cocktail bar mixing the infamous painkillers , small taco place and bathrooms are available ..need to rent paddle boards ? They have clear ones along with kayaks, chairs, snorkel sets, and many other cool beach gear . Closes at 5 so get your full day in Did I mention the mass amounts of turtle you will see..amazing 😎 Luv it will be back , make sure you check it out 🤙☘️

Good beach, sea grass for snorkeling to see Turtles. The only problem is if you go to see Turtles and then the water is cloudy from rain, rough water or northern swelling, well you won't see anything. We had a great time. Rentals are pricey but there are chairs, water couches and any other gear. Limited food and bar for drinks. Easy access from road, limited parking. We arrived at 8am. That was maybe too early. Didn't seem to really fill up until closer to 9/10. Worth visiting once and try your luck to see the Turtles. Unfortunately we weren't lucky this time. Have to come back and try again. 🐢

Great visit but was super crowded.. honeymoon beach was more relaxed, but…. If you want to snorkel and see fish, Maho is a good spot Also always ask the waitress at the bar “ do you have a juicy booty?”

Took a day sail and asked our captain to take us snorkeling with turtles. First place we went was maho, where we saw many turtles of all sizes, along with rays and several pretty large starfish. Very cool, highly recommend this beach if turtles are your thing

Saltpond Bay is a serene ocean bay located on the picturesque south side of St. John. It is known for its clear, calm waters and rich history of salt mining, which is evident in its name and surrounding landscape. The bay offers opportunities for snorkeling and access to scenic nearby trails such as the Reef Bay Trail, America Hill Great House Ruins, and Rams Head.
Amazing bay for snorkeling. Exposed rocks in the middle with abundant sea life.
Matt H — Google review
Pretty decent snorkeling it’s a bit of a hike from the parking lot but the cool thing is that once you are on the beach their is a lot to do. You have the option to hop in and snorkel, be sure to bring a pool noodle as their are boats in the water and you want them to be able to spot you! You can also walk to the southern most point of the island along the rams head trail as well as collect natural sea salt from the salt pond! Be sure to bring flip flops to wear on the beach as their are some sticks and twigs, wear shoes when bringing your gear up and back from the parking lot as the walk is rocky and flip flops are guaranteed to be a bad time
Corey B — Google review
Not crowded and a great beach! Short easy hike to get there

Best snorkeling I experienced in St John. Very calm waters, beautiful coral and fish all along east side of bay (left side facing water). Walk from parking to beach is not that bad at all. Maybe 1/3 mile.

Salomon Beach is a secluded, white-sand beach that can be reached via a 2.3-mile loop trail, making it an ideal spot for a day of adventure and relaxation. The trail offers scenic views and leads to two stunning beaches, Salomon Beach and Honeymoon Beach. Accessible by hiking or boat, the beach boasts sugar-white sand, swaying coconut palms, and crystal-clear aqua-blue waters perfect for snorkeling.
Great secluded beach that never got crowded early on despite being walking distance from the cruise drop off. The hike is only about a mile but pretty rocky and steep in some places so it naturally keeps people away. Water was clear and beautiful. I regret not having a mask with me as it would have been a great place to snorkel all around.
Aaron W — Google review
Beautiful, secluded beach. About a 1.5 mile hike to the beach, however, the trail there is rough and thus no one takes it, but trust me. IT IS WORTH IT! absolutely amazing coral reefs and clear blue waters.
Ty N — Google review
Salomon Beach in the Virgin Islands National Park is beautiful. Some of the beach is rockier than other beaches, but the views are breathtaking. There were only six people on the entire beach the day that we were there, so it is a hidden gem. If hiking from the national park's visitor center, it is over rough terrain, but very doable for even novice hikers.
Phillip V — Google review
Gorgeous beach but a real hike to get too. Beach is rocky for a few feet out but is quiet and perfect for snorkeling. The trail to it was a little difficult without sturdy shoes, not meant for flip flops but we saw some amazing crabs along the route !
Jennifer T — Google review
Beautiful beach. It does require a little bit of a hike to access the beach. I would estimate it as a moderate 15 minute hike in each direction. The hike is on somewhat slick rocks if it has recently rained.
Bryn C — Google review
Nice beach, less crowded. I snorkeled and saw some fish at the reef :)
Muris D — Google review
This was one of my favorite hikes when I lived in St. John, the overlook hike from town is great, easy, most flat until its not. Once you start getting to the hillside and in the trees, you can hear the hermit crabs dropping into their shells and rolling down the hill to avoid you, which I always thought was amazing. Once you are on the beach, the sweat and rocky terrain is totally worth it. Be careful, there are some sting ray mating grounds in that bay, I mean you will be right on top of them, so use caution. Also, lots of rich nudists drop in from their yachts which is great when you're 20 years old and looking to mingle with attractive wealthy rich ladies.
Ragnar D — Google review
We hiked the easy 1 mile to Solomon beach today and thankfully took our snorkel gear. We saw a 4 foot spotted eagle ray and lots of parrot fish! Beautiful snorkeling, maybe because no one was here and it had just rained. It is rocky getting in, not a beach to hang out at.

Snorkeling in the bay reveals seagrass beds, coral reefs, and an array of sea creatures such as octopuses, turtles, and stingrays.
Love this beach and the history/ruins. The views are magnificent. We hiked in from Coral Bay Rd.(our rental wouldn’t make it, but I was determined to go-so we set out on foot) We had a great time snorkeling and saw tons of sea life! On land we encountered deer, goats, and no-see-ums that tore me up. You ABSOLUTELY need 4 wheel drive. There are multiple DEEP ruts(photos near the end). So thankful to the sweet soul who carried us back to the top, otherwise we would have never made it! Please, leave only footprints and take only memories and YOUR MESS/stuff/garbage. Help keep the island beautiful.

We had fun taking the rental jeep down the trail. Lucky for us, it was a slow day and we only passed one other jeep. Trails are tight through alot of areas so be prepared to work together and make the best of it. Beautiful beach and a restroom but no running water near the end of the trial. If you don't have insurance, I wouldn't attempt unless you've been off road before.
Chris P — Google review
I visited the beach few years ago with a car and rated it poorly due to the terrible road to get there. However, this time i hiked to it via bordeaux mountain trail and had a much better experience due to the beach looking great and the great feeling of cooling off in it after the hike. Also, privacy factor was high as there was literally nobody there :)

A beautiful, very quiet beach with excellent snorkeling if you're up to driving on a very bumpy dirt road to get there. We only saw a few other people there and spent a lot of time snorkeling the reef there. We even saw and octopus and stingray. There are essentially no amenities there, (the port a john was disgusting) so bring everything you need.

It's a great beach. A few picnic benches and grills to use, a newer bathroom. Tuck into the shade and enjoy a beach with no crowds. You'll need a jeep or 4x4. Check out the ruins up the hill at the end. They are very interesting.

Nice beach, best part is getting there. For sure need a jeep dont mess around! More people here than previously reported, but thats ok. The beach is a little rocky so its a good idea if theres sensitive feet or kids you wear some water shoes. Very secluded compared to the other beaches so its good to bring water and food if you plan on bein there for a while.

Accessible only by boat or a short forested trail, it offers a quiet and beautiful escape from the more popular beaches on St. John. With no amenities such as bathrooms or food stands, visitors can enjoy the tranquil surroundings and powdery white sands contrasting with rocky outcroppings.
My recent visit to Dennis Bay in the US Virgin Islands was nothing short of a dream come true, and I can't praise this destination enough! The crystal-clear turquoise waters gently lapped the shore, creating a soothing melody that added to the overall sense of serenity. I found myself captivated by the natural beauty of Dennis Bay – it's a true haven for those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. Dennis Bay's immaculate cleanliness and well-maintained facilities deserve special mention. The staff's dedication to keeping the beach pristine is evident, making it a pleasure to stroll along the shore or simply bask in the sun. The amenities, including clean restrooms and convenient beachside services, reflect a commitment to ensuring visitors have a seamless and enjoyable experience. The local community around Dennis Bay also contributes to its charm. The warmth and friendliness of the residents make you feel not just like a visitor, but a welcomed guest in paradise. Whether you're seeking recommendations for local eateries or looking to explore nearby attractions, the locals are always ready with a smile and helpful advice. Sunsets at Dennis Bay are a spectacle that will forever be etched in my memory. It's a must-see for anyone fortunate enough to visit this slice of heaven on earth. In conclusion, my experience at Dennis Bay, USVI, exceeded all expectations. The combination of natural beauty, cleanliness, friendly locals, and overall tranquility make it a destination deserving of every one of its five stars. I can't wait to return to this paradise and soak in the magic of Dennis Bay once again!

Francis Bay Beach is located at the northern end of North Shore Road, near Maho Bay. It offers a peaceful atmosphere and is an ideal spot for observing turtles, swimming, and snorkeling along the rock shoreline. The beach has both pebbled and sandy areas, providing diverse landscapes for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, it is known for being less crowded than other popular beaches on St John, making it a favorite among locals.
One of my top 5 favorite beaches in the USVI. It is rocky, so not the best for swimming. Great snorkeling for those with experience; tons of fish near the reef (watch out for the stone fish!) as well as occasional tutles and dolphins in the area. Be sure to walk the trail to see some neat ruins

One of our top 3 beaches on St John! We got there at 8:30 so parking wasn’t a problem. It has great views, wasn’t crowded and has pretty good snorkeling on the east end.
Jared M — Google review
Great beach to get away from some of the more crowded spots. Sheltered in the winter more, from the wind, than the North facing beaches. There are no food trucks or stands, so pack a cooler. You can drop off your stuff very close to the beach and then go find parking. It also made it nice for someone in our party who had a bum ankle. Restroom is a porta-jon type building, and there is only one. Rough road to get back to parking, bu it seemed like enough spots for the number of people that come there.
Shawn S — Google review
Love the beach but not the sulfur smell.
Ed M — Google review
This beach is a little further from the main areas. However, it was some great snorkeling. we saw a few Stingrays, Spotted Eagle Rays, a nurse shark and a lemon shark and a few parrot fish. You can easily see depths of 20 to 30 feet if you're venturing out that far. Parking is a little challenging but people leave often so you might have to circle the driveway a couple times. It is a little Rocky and pebbley to the left of the main entrance. However the further right you go, You will encounter softer sand as you enter the sea.
David B — Google review
Wonderful! Right next to Maho Beach and quieter/less people. A new concrete road leads to a parking lot right on the beach. A bathroom is here and walking trail to the further parking if you arrive after 9am-ish. The lot here at the ocean fits about 12 jeeps. Out of the many beaches we've visited on St John this beach has the MOST shade with trees you can sit under with picnic tables. Again get here by 9am or they're taken.
Jim K — Google review
Hidden Gem. we took a walking trail to reach the beach, it's like .25 miles of walk. Nice trail. You can also drive to get to the beach. But most probably you will not find nearby parking and might end up taking 5 min walk. Plenty of trees offers natural shades. Not much crowded either since most of visitors don't go beyond Maho Bay Beach. Snorkeling should be easy as well since water is petty much calm. You can spot coupl of fishes or Turtles may be.
Swapnil K — Google review
Arrived a little after 9 am and there was only one other person there- by noon it was packed/parking unavailable. Lots of shaded spots and plenty of room to spread out. Didn’t feel crowded for the amount of people there. Water was a little hazy when snorkeling (windy today so may have impacted water?) saw a giant sea turtle and sting ray. We felt like we saw more coral/ tropical fish to the left vs. right of beach. Also saw jellyfish.

St. John is a popular Caribbean destination known for its stunning white sand beaches and the Virgin Islands National Park, which boasts a diverse range of bird species. The park was generously donated by Laurance Rockefeller in 1956, covering a significant portion of the island and offering beautiful beaches and campgrounds along Route 20. The park spans nearly two-thirds of St. John Island, surrounding coastal waters, part of St. Thomas Island, and most of Hassel Island.
Beautiful small Island with a few spectacular beaches. Great souvenir shops. Great place to sit and watch the day go by. They have the best beaches clean and clear water perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It’s just 30 minute ferry ride from St. Thomas. My favorite beach is Trunk Bay.

BVI was a stop on a recent cruise. We did a day trip to St. John, then a tour of the island. Honestly, when you've seen one Virgin Island (whether US or British), you've seen them all. The terrain is basically identical. Unfortunately, a lot of the houses and businesses are still in disrepair after the hurricanes of a few years ago. I can certainly understand this as getting anything to these islands is a difficult, expensive task, not counting how expensive basic building materials are in the first place. The nicest thing about any of these islands is the water, which is why the majority of people go there. It is stunningly beautiful. The white sand beaches contrast with the multi-hued water, ranging from a gorgeous green, to aqua to light blue to dark blue. And, the water is crystal clear. No wonder these islands are a divers (and snorkelers) paradise. Don't waste your time on island tours, there's just not a lot to see.

Hiking Trails
Reef Bay Trail is a 4.4-mile moderate trail on St. John Island, popular among hikers and bird-watchers. The trail features two forests and a sugar mill, as well as mysterious petroglyphs carved around 900-1500 AD by the pre-Columbian Taino and their ancestors.
This was a great trail! Parking is just on the side of the road where ever you can find it. The trail down was easy and enjoyable with lots to see on the way. Take the side trail to the petroglyphs, it’s flat, easy walking and worth seeing. The sugar mill ruins are worth seeing too! The ruins are very intact and the placards were informational and interesting. My husband and I took a picnic lunch to eat on the beach to rest before hiking back up. I took a dip in the ocean to cool off. Reef Bay Beach isn’t the best beach to swim - the surf was a rough the day we went and you NEED water shoes to swim. Good beach combing here, though. The hike up: oooo boy. Like many other reviews said, the last 1/3 of the hike back up is a killer. We got a later start to the day then we wanted so we were hiking back up at 1pm, in the heat of the day. My husband and I are active (hike on weekends, weightlift 3-4 days a week) and most of the hike back up was easy. The last bit is at a decently steep incline with several sets of stone stairs and I struggled, though I think it was the heat and humidity that was affecting me the most. The actual trail really wasn’t that bad( I do a trail at home regularly that is steeper and I manage) but hiking it in the heat of the day is not recommended!! Don’t be like me! My husband made out just fine. Make sure you have enough water for the hike back up, you will need it!! That said, my husband and I made the 2.2mile hike back up in about 1hr 15minutes, even with my multiple water/breathing breaks.

Starting near mile marker 5 on Rt. 10, an approximately 4.4 mile round trip trail down a leaf/stone strewn dirt path into the lush growth and trees, leading to Reef Bay. We took the offshoot trail (about another 1/2 mile round trip) to see the waterfall and petroglyphs, then swam in the bay (water shoes recommended) before making our way back up the trail. The return trip is pretty steep once you’re about 3/4 of a mile from the end. Recommend lots of water!
Lisa B — Google review
We hiked a few trails on Saint John and this was one of our favorites. The parking is pretty tight as you just pull over into any dirt spot you can find and make sure you're not sticking out into the road. The trail from the road down to the old sugar mill and back, had us at about 6 miles while checking out some of the small outlets. It is all downhill from the road so you'll have a bit of a hike back up but it was a beautiful trail. We spotted lots of hermit crabs and even a few Mongooses. The sugar mill ruins are very cool to see and the beach seems to only be able to be accessed via hiking or boating. Make sure to pack some water it is a good amount in the shade but gets hot quickly.

If you're hesitant about the difficulty, I'd pick another trail, but if you're up for a challenge, you can't beat the views. The first half of the hike is all down hill and the return trip is all up hill. The trail is shaded, which a big plus. Bring plenty of water!

Jan 2024 - My wife and I (mid 60s) walked the trail from Centerline to the Petroglyphs and back. It's such a beautiful hike I can see why so many people enjoy it. We are fairly active and had no difficulty with the steeper parts - just a little winded at times. It was a perfect day - Low 80s with a nice breeze. I could see it being more challenging if it were really hot. The trail is in very nice condition. There are a few rocky spots and its likely to be slippery when wet but I would not hesitate to do it again. There are some lovely views, as well as some interesting ruins from the former sugar plantations. It is well shaded, which makes its a pleasant trail on a sunny day. As advised, be sure to bring some water and perhaps a few snacks. Next time we would likely go the rest of the way to the coast (we had plans to swim at Maho Bay so we decided to go as far as the Petroglyphs).
David R — Google review
Pretty aggressive trail on the way back, switchbacks with steep inclines make sure you bring lots of water! The trail is covered mostly during the day and leads down to a secluded beach as well as the petroglyph trail and an abandoned sugar factory
Corey B — Google review
This is a great trail that is mostly covered from the sun. The trail is definitely moderate coming back up from the beach. Going out is fine and the beach provides a nice relief point. Definitely remember to bring enough water and take your time going back up as there is a lot of walking uphill. Parking was on the side of the road near mile marker 5, just remember to go early as the spots on the roadside can fill up quick. There’s a couple offshoots on the trail bringing you to the petroglyphs which is interesting to check out!
Suril D — Google review
Fairly eaay hike down, much tougher coming back up but definitely worth doing! Cool rain forest hike with petroglyphs and various interesting trees, ruins and a beach along the way.

Caneel Bay Beach, nestled on the stunning island of St. John in the Virgin Islands, is a true gem for beach lovers and snorkelers alike. This picturesque location offers breathtaking underwater landscapes filled with vibrant corals and diverse marine life, making it a must-visit spot for anyone looking to explore the ocean's wonders. As you venture along East End Road past Coral Bay, you'll find yourself surrounded by lush scenery leading to this idyllic beach.
The beach club is great. Staff works hard. The shuttle is well worth it and the beach chairs are nice. Cabanas are crazy $$ but why not….some might pay and the biz needs to make $$. We had excellent service and it is one Of the finest beaches on the island. Also close to Cruz Bay and hiking.

Caneel Bay beach reopened to the public in August. Three parking lots and a 5 minute walk to the beach. Free. Only porta potties now as the park service is slowly getting it open again. The ruins of the once beautiful resort remain. The shuttle to Honeymoon Beach runs from the parking areas. At Honeymoon they have umbrellas, lounges, food and drink but the fees are high.

Beach is great. A little under whelmed by the cabana setup and food/drinks. But the beach and the snorkeling make up for it. We also saw 7 turtles.

Little Lameshur Bay, located on the southern side of St. John, is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking both natural beauty and historical exploration. The bay boasts a stunning beach and offers hikers the opportunity to embark on various walking trails, including one that connects to Reef Bay Trail. Additionally, visitors can explore nearby sugar plantation ruins that provide a scenic overlook of the bay.
Ready to escape the crowds of the north beaches and swim, do some great snorkeling in crystal clear water? This is the beach! Only a few people and shade is available, as is ample parking. Stick to the left side of the beach for wonderful snorkeling. You’ll just need a 4x4 Jeep to get there, along with a sense of adventure and/or love of bouncy drives. Worth it! Go on a day that Miss Lucy’s is open for lunch and stop there on way back.

Loved it here! We drove all around and explored as much as we could in one day and it was memorable. The views are breathtaking, the beaches are gorgeous, and the ruins are great for pictures. The roads are very windy but they’re paved so you feel a bit safer driving through it all.

Greatly enjoyed this visit to VI NP. After speaking to one of the two interpretive Rangers for the park, they are very understaffed. The new Park HQ and visitor center is very nice and worth a visit. Hopefully the bathrooms will get some attention next. Additionally, updated signage will help visitors navigate the massive park. Most beaches and facilities are free, with Trunk Bay as an exception. You can only (realistically) walk to Solomon and Honeymoon beaches via the trails from the visitor center. The others all require a taxi ($9 pp/ one way) or a rental car. Trunk Bay is $5 pp, with very limited parking.

Salt Pond Beach is a picturesque sandy cove with tidal pools and salt ponds, making it a popular destination for snorkeling and camping. The beach offers shallow waters protected from wind and waves, perfect for a relaxing swim. Snorkelers can spot turtles, rays, and large fish in the seagrass beds along the coastline. With picnic tables, shade, restrooms, and minimal crowds, it's an ideal spot to spend the day.
Possibly the best beach on St. John. If you swim straight out from the center of the beach, you’ll find a nice reef with abundant sea life. From Salt Pond, hike to the cliffs above the ocean at Ram Head.

It's a nice beach. Sufficient parking, including on the side of the road. Path is fine and can be done in sandals. There were about 15 other families when we visited. Saw a couple of sea turtles and a bunch of fish. For us, it wasn't worth the 35 minute drive from Cruz Bay, especially since we didn't want to do any of the nearby hikes. Take a beach umbrella or tent if you can.
Noelle J — Google review
Amazing beach. No current, warm calm waters. Mostly sea grass, out by the buoys I saw three sea turtles and a stingray. Left (south) side by the rocks were much more fish and some coral. Some picnic tables nestled under the tree cover. There are some bathrooms and trash cans on the north end by the entrance

Such a gorgeous beach!!! Not over crowded, super soft sand, and plenty of sea life. We snorkeled at this beach and saw a dozen squid, 5 sea turtles, and a couple stingrays! We also really enjoyed the short hike to the top of the nearby hill to enjoy the scenery. Beautiful view! Definitely a repeat place for us!!!

Quiet, secluded beach with some good snorkeling. The water is very calm and very clear here - perfect for looking around. You'll find fish and sea urchins here.

The walk down is hot and rocky but manageable. It's definitely a quiet beach, only saw about 10 people all day. There are lots of fish to see even from the shore. Turtles 🐢 everywhere, even saw a Moray eel. Picnic tables for use and some great shade trees to rest under. About a 30-minute drive from the Westin

A short hike down the hill to a piece of Peace and beauty! We went early in the morning and stayed the entire day. Picnic tables, shade, restrooms and small crowds are some of the things that make the is one of our favorite spots. The snorkeling is the best part! Both sides have rock and large fish! We saw sea turtles, eagle rays, the biggest puffer fish I have ever seen, an octopus and a flounder - and these were just the highlights. Lots of large fish to watch. We spent hours in the water and it was so much fun to watch these amazing sea animals!

North Haulover Beach is a less crowded spot on the eastern end of the island, offering a serene and secluded atmosphere. It's perfect for intermediate to advanced snorkelers due to its proximity to strong currents passing between Tortola and the Virgin Islands National Park. A short walk through a tropical wooded path leads to a pebble beach where snorkelers can explore coral reefs, colorful fish, turtles, and stingrays.
The best place I've seen for snorkeling on St John. Amazing coral and diverse fish. If you're into snorkeling come here! Snorkel on the left side of the beach. There is a short trail to access the beach.
Chris H — Google review
No pics. We only stayed to see all the seaweed on shore and the pungent smell was a full throttle punch in the face. North Haulover is a short walk down a trail, replete with hermit crabs and stagnant water. You may have better luck with the seaweed and the fragrant stank. Haulover N and S were both busts for me!

220 steps thru the forest gets you to North Haulover Bay. An easy walk. The beach is rocks. But the snorkelling to the far left has incredibly beautiful fans and coral. Make sure it is a calm day. No waves. Or else it will be miserable. But on a calm, sunny day you will be amazed and well satisfied. I promise. Go all the way down to the point on the left, 300 yards of great fans and coral.
Tom W — Google review
Haulover is usually a little more ruff but south was incredible and easier to swim.
Nathaniel B — Google review
Don't waste your time trying to snorkel Trunk Bay as it looks like a deserted wasteland compared to what you will find here. Just a short walk from the road and only enough parking for perhaps a half dozen cars. From the road, it looks like a trail through a snake infested swamp but this is what probably keeps most people away. Also, the coral and rock beach makes it really tricky to get into the water without stumbling around like a drunken fool but then again this also probably keeps a lot of folks away. We went to the right first, and it was impressive, but then we went to left and it was incredible. Wish I had brought an underwater camera.
Raibeart M — Google review
Tough the get in without foot protection. Lots of small sea urchins. But stunning water and coral littered beach!
Heather B — Google review
Best Snorkeling at ST JOHN so far. 5 minutes hike from highway 10. Not crowded at all so plenty of parking spot if you are not there too late. not a sand beach here though but once you pass the pebbles, turn left if you face the water, go straight, you will find a forest of coral reels and all kinds of fish, even school of colorful fish. if you move further away from the beach, you will see turtles and stingray feeding on the grass bed. The wave here is pretty big and sometimes one or two huge one can hit you with a big surprise so do not get too close to the rocks. too rough for the kids. but my 17 years old and myself really enjoyed the one hour we stay in the water. It is AMAZING! by the way, we went to almost every beach and cay at St John. and we do love this one the best.

Henley Cay is a top snorkeling spot in the U.S. Virgin Islands, known for its vibrant marine life and healthy coral reefs. This remote cay offers an advanced snorkeling experience due to strong currents, making it suitable for confident swimmers. The reef system is fed by the current passing between the cay and St John, resulting in abundant gorgonians, sea fans, brain corals, and diverse reef fish.
April 4th, 2023 Today, I had a life-and-death moment while snorkeling at Henley Cay. I had heard so many great things about the spot, and it truly is one of the best snorkeling locations I’ve ever visited. However, five minutes into the water, I encountered the strongest current I’ve ever faced. My partner had warned me, but I didn’t realize the danger I was in until it was too late. I fought hard to swim back to the boat or reach the beach, but the current was relentless. As I grew more exhausted, thoughts of not making it out alive flooded my mind. I saw my partner trying to guide me towards the bay, but I felt hopeless, picturing my family and friends mourning my death. I kept telling myself not to panic, to stay calm, and to conserve energy. Yet, I continued to drift further from safety. Time seemed to stand still in those terrifying moments, but then, out of nowhere, I saw George—the boy from Michigan—approaching on his uncle’s boat. At that moment, I knew I was saved. I wasn’t going to die in St. John that day. George, if you’re reading this, I cannot thank you enough. You are quite literally my lifesaver and guardian angel. I owe you so much! You can proudly tell everyone that you saved a life at St. John! And if you ever find yourself in NYC, please reach out—I’d love to treat you to the best the city has to offer. Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart! To future visitors of Henley Cay: Please, always wear a life jacket. The bay might seem calm and peaceful, but nature can change in an instant. This experience taught me that you should never underestimate the power of the ocean. One careless decision can be fatal. Stay safe and always be cautious in unfamiliar waters—you never know when your life could depend on it.

I chartered a dinghy boat from Wharfside Village in Cruz Bay, St. John. From there it was about a 20 to 30 minute boat ride to Henley Caye. Because the only way there is by kayak or boat, not a lot of people go there. The coral was gorgeous....best I have seen in the entire Virgin Islands! So many different species of fish. It was like a rainbow of colors underwater.

Its a moderately strenuous 2 mile out and back. Definitely a challenge with high humidity and heat. After the beach there is rocky up and down with intermittent shade. The cobblestone beach can be a challenge, then its uphill to the peak.
Glenn H — Google review
Wonderful hike. We did our hike at the hottest part of the day (which I don't necessarily recommend) and there was little shade and little breeze. You pass through two beaches, one for swimming before the trailhead, and a cobblestone beach on the trail. You'll see lots of ram head cacti dotting the hillside. Beautiful views. Hike wasn't necessarily difficult - some stairs, ups and downs. Biggest difficulty was the heat, the lack of shade and breeze. You'll catch a breeze in the saddle and a little at the summit. You'll park in a parking area and have about a half mile trek down to the swimming beach and then to the trailhead. Views were worth it.
Danna B — Google review
Best trail on St. John, by far, and the only one we found with unobstructed views the whole way—and such stunning views! There’s also an interesting historical market at the top about an early slave rebellion that is both tragic and interesting.
Lisa W — Google review
It's a 1.25 hour hike to reach the peak and similar to return. Would say it's a moderate difficulty hike. Carry lots of water. You will have to first first cross salt pond trail to reach ram head trail. You will have to cross two beaches and a hill to reach the peak. Better have good footwear so that you dont slip.

Hiking Trails
Lind Point Trail is a picturesque trail network in St. John USVI, offering stunning views of Cruz Bay and St. Thomas. The 2-mile hike is suitable for all skill levels and showcases native wildlife, lush flora, and sea vistas. Hikers can enjoy panoramic views from Caneel Hill's manmade platform and Margaret Hill's large boulders. The trail leads to the entrance of Caneel Bay Resort, providing access to Honeymoon Beach.
You can hike to the beaches using this trail system. Connects to the rest of the trail network through Cancel Trail. We did a loop back into Cruz Bay. Skip the car rental and hike it out! Great trail for breaking away from the tourist monotony. Desert-like at first until you round the northern side of the island. The terrain is very similar to the Ozarks. Definitely need appropriate hiking attire. We carried a bag to change into flops back in town and our suits under our clothes.

Lind Point Trail is a great hike with two beautiful beaches to see (Honeymoon Beach and Soloman). There is an upper trail and a lower trail. The upper is what would say is moderate, but just barely. We took the upper trail going out to the beaches and the lower coming back. It was a very enjoyable hike.
Tony B — Google review
This is the perfect trail for those who have limited time at Virgin Islands National Park. It is rough and rocky at times, but doable for most novice hikers. My 11 and 14 year olds had no trouble at all. The loop is well maintained, and the views are worth the walk.
Phillip V — Google review
Great trail with interesting ruins along the way and a beautiful beach at the end. The trail wasn't near as difficult as some reviews made it out to be but I guess everything is relative to each person's past experiences. Highly recommend!
Jason — Google review
We knew that we wanted to hike to the beaches and this was the perfect trail. Initially you are in the sun, but there’s a decent amount of shade once you get going. Would recommend at least decent water shoes or sneakers to hike, but it can be done in flipflops too.
Heather B — Google review
We visited on a weekday at end of March 2024. The trailhead is located right behind the visitor center and across the small parking lot. This is the cheapest way to go to some of the beaches. There are some stairs going up which takes you to an access road and then you head up the road for maybe 100 feet and then the trail continues up again some more rustic stone steps. We were ready with Keens and other closed toe hiking/water sandals and had no problems with the trail. I would not recommend flipflops at all. We took the lower trail on the way to the beaches. Elevation wasn't terrible (you can check on alltrails). While the trail was maintained it was pretty rocky with very uneven footing at times. There are also multiple splits in the trail which aren't all posted on google or the park maps and the signage could be better. Because St. John is US territory, you can turn on your phone and get GPS location (we have verizon). This worked great for us. We stopped by Salomons beach first. It has multiple entrances and multiple trails from Lind Point to the beach. We got a little confused but all the trails from the Lower Lind Point will get you there. We then hiked over to Honeymoon beach. On the way back we hiked the upper Lind Point trail and stopped by the overlook for a couple mins. Great view. We had a 8, 11 and 14 yr old with us but we're also very outdoorsy and do lots of hiking. We went in with 3 backpacks with our towels, water, beach blanket and snorkel gear. Both beaches were amazing and even through we reached them around noon time, it wasn't SUPER crowded at the beach. We found spot to set up in the shade of some trees. We didn't look to hard but didn't notice any bathrooms either. Might want to go back at the visitor center before you start. We would definitely do this trail again as it was very interesting as we aren't used to the ecology of the area. There were many lizards, birds and cactus. Surprisingly we didn't encounter many flying insects either. Not a mosquito in sight.
David L — Google review
It is a decent trail, not many beautiful viewpoints but it gets you to a nice and uncrowded beach. We saw some deer along the way :)
Muris D — Google review
Nice views and takes you down to some beautiful secluded beaches. There is an incline but the trail winds so it is pretty easy. The ground is pretty uneven with rocks and roots which could make it more moderate for some people, we completed it in about an hour. Also there are lots of amazing plants along the trail.

Jumbie Beach is a small and serene beach located on the North Shore of St. John, just west of the famous Trunk Bay. It offers stunning views of blue waters and mountain backdrops, with shady spots under the trees along the beach. The limited parking keeps the beach uncrowded, making it a great escape from larger tourist-filled beaches.
If you're not paying attention, you'll miss the parking area and the sign. The parking area is across the street from the trail. The trail is easy, 320 ft. Not recommended for anyone wheelchair restricted as it is not wide enough, IMO. This beach is a bit different from the other hot spots in St. John because the waves do break rather rough. No sea grass, so no marine life. Don't expect a snorkeling adventure here. However, my party had the entire beach to ourselves! Plenty of nooks to spread your beach blanket under the trees for some shade. It's a short beach, from the trees to the waterline, so tuck in tight. If you're looking for a place to just chill out, relax, let the kids play, and catch some rays with a stunning view, this is it.
Marcia F — Google review
Jumbie is small which is nice and has beautiful views but the water is definitely on the choppier side and the beach isn’t as pristine as others. It’s great for a half day but I wouldn’t choose this spot for a full day

Limited parking, 5-7 spots so it limits amount of people, however people did seem to be dropped off by taxis- started filling up in the afternoon. Would arrive earlier in the morning. Small beach but was lovely. Ample options for shade. Snorkeling on both sides of the shore was pretty. Would recommended! Felt more private than the bigger beaches!

Blue Cobblestone Beach, located along the Rams Head Trail in St. John, offers a unique and picturesque rocky shoreline. Accessible via a 30-minute hike from Salt Pond Bay Beach, this beach is adorned with jade-green stones and colorful shells. The rocks create a mesmerizing sound as the water washes over them, providing a tranquil atmosphere. It's also an excellent spot for snorkeling, often overlooked by many visitors.
Absolutely amazing beach, the rocks here have been tumbled for thousands of years, they sing when the water goes over them it’s amazing to hear and super tranquil. It’s easy to access from the Ram head trail and you have a good view of the southern most point of the island.

Totally worth the 30ish minute hike from Salt Pond Bay Beach lot. Challenging, rocky, take Ram Head trail and lots of water. The beach is full of stones that turn jade green when wet. Dig in the sand to find shells of all colors - pink, purple, red, orange, yellow. Lots of fossilized coral. Take nothing with you, leave it all as is!
Katie R — Google review
A tranquil rock-covered beach close to the end of the trail to Ram Head that’s often overlooked by visitors in favor of the sandy Salt Pond Beach to the north, so at most times you’ll be the only person here. Nestled at the southwestern tip of St. John, Salt Pond is a stunning beach that promises an unforgettable experience for those willing to make the trek. This picturesque horseshoe-shaped stretch of white sand is not only visually captivating but also offers some of the best snorkeling opportunities in the area. The vibrant reefs are alive with marine life, including colorful fish like blue tangs and parrotfish, as well as occasional sightings of nurse sharks and sea turtles.
Favorite beach for snorkeling. We saw turtles, stingrays and more all near the shore. Tons of huge hermit crabs in the trees. A short hike to see the flamingos. This beach had it all. The hardest part was the uphill walk back to the car.

Worth the short hike down. Only issue I have is more and more people are discovering the best kept secret, Salt Pond on St John. It’s beautiful and a great place to snorkel, saw 3 sea turtles. Can’t wait to come back.

Salt Pond & Rams Head Trail on St. John USVI is one of my favs! Off the beaten trail, away from the touristy beach areas, a little hard to find, but worth the trek. We snorkeled with squid, turtles and even a shark darted by! The hike up to Rams head is spectacular! Oh, almost forgot the donkeys that met us on the walk down to the beach!!

Amazing what mother nature creates! Never seen a natural salt pond before. It may or may not be legal to take the salt as per the Park Ranger we spoke to, and he wasn't sure how clean it is to actually use. The picture of the big block was something we found left behind on a park bench, we didn't pull it out of the pond -- it was heavy.

Grootpan Bay is a secluded and serene destination, offering a blend of sandy shores and rocky outcrops. While easily accessible, it's not heavily frequented by locals or tourists, making it an ideal spot for those seeking solitude. However, caution is advised when entering the water due to sea urchins on the rocks and occasional high waves. The eastern section of the bay is particularly recommended for snorkeling, as its remote location has allowed marine life to thrive undisturbed.
Awesome bay for snorkeling. There is a large Green Moray Eel that lives in the bay.

Trunk Bay is a must-visit spot in the Virgin Islands National Park, offering one of the best views and easy accessibility from North Shore Road. The underwater markers near the island provide interesting information about the habitat, making snorkeling an amazing experience with plenty of fish and coral to see. The beach's clear and warm waters, silky sand, and well-maintained facilities attract many tourists who can also explore hiking trails and historic sugar plantation ruins within the park.
This National Park is really cool. There are underwater markers along the reef near the island that are really fun to follow and read and check out. They give you a little information about the habitat. My son and I snorkeled around the island. That was amazing! And of course up and down the beach. We saw a ton of fish stingray all kinds of cool stuff. It wasn't terribly busy. Did have some cruise people come and go. Chair rentals were $15. They do take your ID and give it back to you when you return the chairs. They're conveniently is a little shop for food, drinks, ice cream and souvenirs. They have a bath house and toilets. You can't go wrong with the Caribbean waters. This location does not serve you. You have to go get your own food and drink.

One of the most beautiful beaches in the world. My family loved snorkeling the underwater park. The is not much shade so be prepared with lots of sunscreen or bring your own umbrella. The water was crystal blue and we saw lots of fish.

This was the BEST snorkeling on St. John to see fish and coral. The island is a nice short distance from shore - much closer than the island off of Cinnamon Bay. Halfway between the beach and the island is a shallow reef, about 10 feet down. Here there were a TON of fish! There were so many Yellowtail Snappers, which were so friendly and would get so close! Super cool and fun, especially for new snorkelers or children. We did see a Barracuda cruising through, which was a little scary but very cool as well.

I wasn’t sure if I should make the trip when my cruise line docked in St. Thomas. After much research & planning.. we did the cab to the ferry, then cab to beach & made it back in time for the ship. Food isn’t cheap at the beach, but the water & sand is amazing!!! So glad we went! If you do buy the $8 hot dogs... DONOT eat them by the beach. We saw the birds dive bomb & eat the hot dog while a kid was holding close to mouth!!!

Miss Lucy's is a charming restaurant located on the shore of Coral Bay in St. John. Named after the island's first female taxi driver, it offers stunning ocean views and a beachfront location. The restaurant features outdoor seating under shaded trees and hosts live entertainment and open mic nights that attract both visitors and locals. The menu showcases authentic Caribbean flavors, including conch fritters, kallaloo soup, and chicken roti.
Loved our visit in 2022 so we stopped back this year for lunch. The view absolutely cannot be beat. It's a lovely place to just sit and watch the ocean. Our waitress was very kind, polite, and as attentive as she could be. She was waiting on what appeared to be the whole restaurant. She did a great job and we were appreciative. Food wasn't fancy but was excellent. Wife had a fish sandwich and I had the fish Reuben. Both were perfect. We will continue to come back each trip we make to the island, love this spot.

Open mic night at Miss Lucy's was the best evening we spent on St John! Great atmosphere, great entertainment, and all the folks were very friendly. Lauren and Bo was a great band to sing with! Wish we hadn't eaten before going because the food looked delicious. The banana bread to go was very tasty

Miss Lucy’s shows up on many people’s “must see” lists for St. John. We went on Thursday night, which is “Open Mic Night,” and I got to play keyboard with the excellent house band! A great evening. We spent the late morning and afternoon at Saltpond/Ram Head, which meant we were already on the Coral Bay side of the island, where Miss Lucy’s is. The VITRAN bus picked us up at Saltpond, and kindly dropped us off at Miss Lucy’s a bit before dinnertime. The VITRAN bus is a great option, if you can make it work in your schedule, but be sure to check when they’re coming. (The website schedule has almost nothing to do with the actual schedule!) We were glad we had some OFF insect repellant lotion, as were a few other people who asked to use some of ours! The band was setting up, and new members kept coming, even after the evening started. Apparently, the chef hadn’t shown up yet, but they took food orders, served drinks, and the music got going pretty close to on schedule, 5:30 pm. It was a great evening! Lots of folks—singles, couples, families—and everyone was into the music. Lauren and Bo Magnie (and their wonderful kids) really make it happen, along with a large cast of friends. The music ranged from reggae to folk to jazz to rockabilly, with lots of folks stepping in for a few numbers. Someone was making balloon animals, someone else was blowing bubbles. There was lots of dancing, and people jumping in with the band. There was even a guy playing spoons. The food came out incredibly LATE, like over an hour after we ordered it. But to be honest, no one cared very much. Everyone was having a blast, dancing, singing, and playing under the colored lights on a beautiful St. John evening. The place was packed. Oh, back to the food! We had fried plantains, and kallaloo and crab soup. Presentation was super informal, but the flavor was off the charts “top shelf!” It could’ve been something we got at a fancy place. So good. One thing: if you’re relying on taxis, make arrangements beforehand. We got stranded, there was no cell service, and the restaurant wifi was down. So we bummed a ride (thank you, new friend!) until we got into cell range, then called our favorite taxi driver for the ride home. But this just added to the wonderful adventure of Open Mic Night at Miss Lucy’s. Don’t miss it!

Absolutely lovely setting outside by the bay (if you don't mind the seaweed smell). Choices on the menu were numerous & hard to decide. Be warned...the crowd starts arriving as soon as Miss Lucy's opens, especially if you want a table outside. 6 of us choose a variety of entrees. The special was Roti Mutton with local veggies (yummm), another selected Roti with chicken & 3 of us got the grouper reuben (Yummm). All were delicious but couldn't beat the grouper. Superbly cooked & tasty. Didn't get an opportunity to visit for open mic on Thursday but heard it's a great time. Read the travel columns & websites, all emphasized to not miss a meal at Miss Lucy's. Make sure it's a stop on your trip!
Carol L — Google review
Great food but, needs more wait staff for such a popular spot. We came in on a Wednesday after being run off the beach by a passing shower (~11:15). This must have been the same response for many other patrons. We were just able to beat the majority of the rush and seated within 5mins or so. Ordered drinks and appetizers (Rum punch and Plantains were delicious). Placed our order. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time (20-25mins) well worth the wait. I shared the Lucy's Grouper Ruben sandwich and the West Indies Fried fish. The Ruben was crispy fried grouper in a delicious Ruben sandwich with a side of fries. The West Indies was a lightly pan seared grouper with an enjoyable island spice (not overpowering) served with grilled veggies, beans and rice and fried plantains. Amazing! Moderately priced and bill had tip included (15-20%).When we were ready for to leave we had difficulty getting the bill paid due to the amount of people that had arrived while we were eating. Partly self induced with a party of splitting the bill 3ways with cash and credit. Pro Tip: When eating as a group on the island Cash is king! Waitress was super friendly but obviously flustered and in the weeds due to the sudden rush. As anyone who has worked in the food service industry can identify with. I definitely would recommend this place again and look forward to a return trip to Miss Lucy's! Just remember, you're in one of the most beautiful places on the planet, leave the stress of the mainland at home and take in the views (and the goats)!

Annaberg Sugar Plantation, built in 1718, is an 18th-century sugar plantation with well-preserved ruins including a windmill tower and factory. The site is part of the Virgin Islands National Park and offers visitors a glimpse into the island's colonial past and post-emancipation culture. The Cinnamon Bay Nature Loop provides easy access to the plantation ruins, with a wheelchair-friendly boardwalk looping through the area.
Excellent historical location. Very moving to see many parts of this plantation. The Friends of the Virgin Islands have demonstrations 3 days a week. It was our lucky day. We were able to try fresh bread, and got to tour the kitchen-which showed the wealth of the previously enslaved owner who bought the plantation that once owned him. It was so incredibly informative.

The parking lot is down by the beach. An uphill hike to the plantation. If you are not good on stairs, you can walk the road to get there. Those views are jaw dropping! Great panorama of the British VI, plenty of history of the plantation. Beautiful quiet place.

My Bride and I opted for self-guided activities on this trip. Driving is challenging. If you are used to driving to the right, you will be mentally challenged. On top of this, the roads are narrow, steep (almost make San Francisco look flat). Hairpin turns galore. Now combine all of the above. That is your driving experience in the Virgin Islands National Park at St. John's, U.S. Virgin Islands. The park itself is replete with trails of varying difficulty, There are markers enough for guidance. We would have spent more time at the plantation, but it started raining heavily. Walking through, visitors may learn much from the information boards. I did not like the "woke" flavor of their content.

The Cruz Bay Visitor Center is the perfect starting point for exploring the Virgin Islands National Park. Here, you can gather essential information, maps, and educational materials before embarking on your hiking adventure. The center provides valuable resources such as The Hikers Guide to Virgin Islands National Park and access to the NPS app for convenient park information on your smartphone. As you plan your hike, it's important to stay hydrated and stick to designated trails.
Very clean and interesting interpretive center and park store that really only occupies about 1/8 of the building. There are bathroom facilities and a few picnic tables near the entrance. Staff was very helpful and friendly. There are two Junior Ranger badges to get here: the VI NP and Underwater Explorer. Each take about 30-40 min to complete and most all the information is available at the store. Shout out to Ranger Courtney for her helpfulness and great attitude.

I’m currently on a journey to explore all the U.S. National Parks, and that’s what brought me to the beautiful island of St. John for a weekend getaway! Virgin Islands National Park is number 57 out of 63 for me, and honestly, it’s one of the best I’ve visited so far. We flew into STT (St. Thomas) on May 19, 2025, and took the ferry from Red Hook. It cost a $3 port fee, but we weren’t told about the additional $65 round-trip cash fee until we were already on the ferry to St. John. Once on the island, we drove all around and hiked five different trails—some moderately challenging. I highly recommend: • Lind Point Trail to Honeymoon Beach – very quiet and peaceful in the early morning, with stunning water colors. • Salomon Beach – great for snorkeling. • Ram Head Trail – incredible ocean views from up high and rich historical significance; you can go from white sandy beaches to coral reefs in just a few minutes’ walk. • Trunk Bay Underwater Snorkel Trail – hands down the most beautiful ocean water I’ve ever seen; the sand feels like butter, and the color of the ocean shifts from vibrant turquoise to deep blue. Entry is $5 per person. • Reef Bay Trail & Petroglyph Trail – fun and a bit challenging. About 13,000 steps round trip, including stops at the Petroglyphs and Sugar Mill ruins. Well-marked and easy to follow. Be sure to stop by the Visitor Center—the rangers and volunteers are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the park’s history and got up-to-date weather info. We lucked out with sunny skies, but the mosquitoes and sand fleas definitely treated us like an all-you-can-eat buffet! We stocked up on food, drinks, and supplies in Cruz Bay—there’s not much available between there and the trailheads. It made for a perfect day trip in the park. St. John is incredibly charming, especially downtown, with its colorful shops, bars, jewelry stores, and gift shops. My favorite part? The ice cream! We ended our day with a late dinner at The Morgan’s Mango—pricey as hell, but totally worth it. We’re so happy to have explored this stunning national park. It truly is picturesque. I was so sad to leave. Saying goodbye was tough—but I’m excited to see where my next adventure takes me!
Tina N — Google review
We visited on a weekday at end of March 2024 as a excursion from a cruise ship that docked over in St. Thomas. It was with Carnival and we did the "St. John on your own". The ferry drops you off in Cruz Bay just right out front of the Visitor Center. Like 1 block away. I think the Red Hook Ferry might drop people off further south in the Bay. The visitor center is currently under renovations on the outside so lots of construction vehicles and scrim up. We took picture with NPS sign and walked on in. There are also a number of picnic tables outside which is under a shelter and shaded from the sun. We got the junior ranger books and got our National Park Passport Stamps and merch. They do close early (1:30PM when we visited) but they gave us the badges ahead of time incase we couldn't finish before they closed or we had to leave. The bathrooms are located outside the visitor center in 2 structures and we didn't run into any bathrooms while we were on the trails. We spent maybe 15 mins in the visitor center (not very big at least the public area) and rushed out back and crossed the tiny parking lot to the Lind Point Trailhead. This is the cheapest way to go to some of the beaches. There are some stairs going up which takes you to an access road and then continues up again some more rustic steps. We were ready with Keens and other closed toe hiking/water sandals and had no problems with the trail. I would not recommend flipflops at all. We took the lower trail on the way to the beach. Elevation wasn't terrible (you can check on alltrails). While the trail was maintained it was pretty rocky. Also multiple splits in the trail which aren't all posted on google or the park maps. Because St. John is US territory, you can turn on your phone and get GPS location. This worked great for us. We stopped by solomons beach first. It has multiple entrances and multiple trails from Lind Point to the beach. We got a little confused but they all get you there. We then hiked over to Honeymoon beach. In total we got about 45 mins of beach time between the two beaches because we had to pack up and head back (12:45 and our cruise excursion ferry leaves at 1:30). On the way back we hiked the upper Lind Point trail and stopped by the overlook for a couple mins. Great view. We made it back with about 5-10 mins to spare. Time for a quick bathroom trip if you needed it. We were concerned we couldn't do it in time but we did it. We had a 8, 11 and 14 yr old with us but we're also very outdoorsy and do lots of hiking. We went in with 3 backpacks with our towels, water, beach blankets and snorkel gear. Both beaches were amazing and even through we reached them around noon time, it wasn't SUPER crowded at the beach. We found spot to set up in the shade of some trees. Next time we would probably consider paying the extra to try and get to trunk bay to do the underwater trail but super happy we got to do what we did for the price we paid. We would definitely visit the park again but could probably pass on the visitor center unless you wanted trail info etc.

Parking is easy here, though limited. Super beautiful location for a visitor center. You can strike out from here (although keep in mind the limited parking duration) on several trails, or pick up some souvenirs in the shop. There is also clean drinking water available here, which seems to be in short supply on this island.

Well....if you have time to spare and little else on your carribean-style time schedule, why not take some time here and get to know the history of St. John. Kind of a museum with activities is a remembrance of how St. John used to be. It also works as the entrance to the eco-wildpark that is St. John, animals, sea mamals, fishing, etc. Nice, but swiftly forgotten in the afternoon heat.

This is a really nice visitor center and it should be your first stop if you are visiting the Virgin Islands National Park. There is a lot of information, including where all the hikes are. There is even a short hike to Lind Point from the visitor center. The staff really know their stuff and will help you plan your trip. They can tell you the best beaches to get to and the best hikes. Though for beaches, if you have your own car, then saltpond beach is one of my favorites. The visitor center also has a good gift shop.

Beautiful resort in St Johns. We loved our stay there. The beaches around the island are gorgeous. There are wild iguanas all around the resort. Grounds were kept clean and the pool was nice. Lots of amenities including pickleball, tennis, gym, and smoothies at the pool.

We arrived around 8 p.m. to a large property and were welcomed by a receptionist who was friendly and provided a clear explanation of the resort amenities. Our villa was spacious and clean, comfortably for four people. However, there was a noticeable, slightly odd smell when we entered, possibly from the washing machine or simply the age of the building.Parking was easy during our stay since there were few guests, but it could be challenging when the resort is busy. Because the property is so large, a car or golf cart service is essential for getting around. Our villa was conveniently located near a small pool, which we enjoyed. The kitchen was well equipped for anyone who wants to cook. Overall, it’s a roomy and well-equipped place for a relaxing stay, though the initial odor and potential parking issues are worth noting.

St. John is 1 of the smaller virgin islands but so worth the visit. We are owners and this was our 1st visit here. Westin did not disappoint. From arrival to departure, I felt taken care of. The villa was amazing, comfortable, with stylish decor. The layout was a little off. Like you had to squeeze into spaces if you opened a door. Weird, but only a slight inconvenience. Shuttles are all across the property so you don't have to walk. Plus, you can call for 1 before you even leave your room or pick up a yellow phone to request 1. Everyone was nice. We were greeted on arrival to a nice rum punch cocktail. Non-alcoholic versions are available as well. Our luggage was delivered to our villa. We were checked in so quick. I've never gotten checked in without a "process" before. We asked for a resort tour around the property. It was nice.✅️ It may be cheaper to take the public ferry ⛴️ and all to the resort but I recommend going thru Westin. Iguanas 🦎 big and small love the island so brace yourself. 1 day, I even saw a stork. Gorgeous 😍 Deer are around too, but I'm used to them. 1 last tip. You have to take a taxi for almost any and everything because Cruz Bay is the closest town and not within walking distance. Probably not a safe walk either. The roads there are hilly, narrow, curvy, and I felt death was near every time 😂 Also, unless you are used to driving on the opposite side of the road, don't rent a car. Taxis are cheaper anyway. Or stay at the resort. You don't have to leave because they have everything. Unless you're a beach person. Taxis will take you. Westin has a wonderful pool but not a beach.

Absolutely the worst place I have ever stayed at and it all started with the horrendous staff and the check in. If you thought any other “island time” folks were slowing and uncaring, look no further than the Westin on St. John’s. I haven’t even left the property but thank goodness I’m checking out asap. Check in: guaranteed by 4pm. Was after 530pm we could get in and it’s during their non-season. None of the front desk workers provided any reasonable updates or do anything. No effort no care on their part at all. Next, the rooms and kitchen space just have generally horrible design. The power goes out at least twice per day, causing the AC to reset so it jacks up to 75 degrees at night and you have to go turn it down in the middle of your sleep. That’s fun. The parking lot is far too small when every rented car is a Jeep with the turning radius of a rhino. Finally, the staff - specifically front desk and the men driving the golf carts, are the worst I have ever encountered. They only are there to get you in trouble, they let other Jeeps drive all over but god forbid you move the Jeep a few spots closer temporarily to pack on check out day they freak out and try to write you a ticket. The golf cart people never offer to move any of their luggage or help at all, they just patrol doing nothing. I’ll never in a million years stay here again. The place flat out sucks and if you want to “explore” St John’s just take a ferry for half a day from St. Thomas. I’ll never go back. Also almost all the food on the island sucks too.

We enjoyed our stay here overall. The rooms could use a bit of updating, but they were comfortable and worked well for us and it was quiet. The service was great for the most part, though we were disappointed that the concierge we were assigned wasn’t available to welcome us and never responded to our email about restaurant reservations we booked through him. However the first shuttle driver we had, Neil, was amazing and we loved the welcome drinks they provided after we got off the ferry. One downside was that the on-site restaurants closed pretty early, and because our room was a bit far from the main activity areas, we often had to rely on the shuttle. It would be nice if they had some late night options past 9pm. That said, taxis were easy to access, and despite a few inconveniences, we had a good stay and enjoyed our time here.

The Website is very old and is NOT representative. This is NOT a high end place. Its a beat up 3 star TIME SHARE condo. TV didnt work for 3 days and nobody came to fix. Asked every day. The service is really bad. Almost NO transportation. Not happy staff. You wait forever. The place is beat up. Remote area. Have to cab it to everywhere. Nothing walkable. I'd return to St John as will my group but NEVER would we stay here again. Being fair its a 6. Staff agreed that "understaffed" and everyone complains so transportation.

As a long time Marriott member this resort is a very big disappointment stay away! Just got here 1 day ago and can’t get out fast enough! Rooms are very small dated and dirty! The pool is green so much so the pool girl said she wouldn’t go in it! The overall cleanliness is terrible, outside furniture is old and worn, the grounds need repairs or ay the very least a good power washing. No sign of maintenance people anywhere! As soon as the Marriott customer service opens tomorrow I will be on the phone with them! I can’t say anything good about this place.

Beach
Honeymoon Beach is a stunning coastal gem nestled within the Virgin Islands National Park, boasting crystal-clear waters and soft white sands that beckon visitors to unwind. This idyllic spot offers water-sport rentals for those looking to add some adventure to their day. Accessible only by foot or boat, it’s part of a network of scenic trails leading from the park's visitor center.
Getting there was an adventure in itself - ferry from St. Thomas to St. John's, a bus ride from the ferry to the gates, followed by a shuttle that drops you right at the beach. The facilities? Let’s just say they’re functional, but don’t expect anything fancy. Still, once you set eyes on the beach, any minor inconveniences melt away. This place is pure paradise, even with the water a bit clouded from recent storms. It’s still one of the best beaches I’ve ever been to - a peaceful atmosphere that makes it feel like your own private escape. And here’s a surprise: there’s an on-site bar! A little unexpected for a national park, but hey, no complaints here. Sipping a cold drink with that view? Perfection. It wasn’t crowded at all during our visit, which made it even better. The few people we did chat with were laid-back and friendly, adding to the welcoming vibe. If you’re looking for a quiet, picturesque spot to relax, this beach is absolutely worth the trip.

Absolutely the hidden gem of St. John. Ample parking compared to other beaches, staff is friendly and the view is fantastic. Cocktails are great, we had multiple types, and would recommend all of them. (They were the best we've had so far).

Honeymoon Beach is GORGEOUS! The water is crystal clear, and it wasn't very crowded. The hike from the Virgin Islands National Park Visitor Center s also very doable.

Truly paradise! Best beach I've ever been to!!! We hiked on from Cruz bay on the high trail to take in Lind point overlook and stopped by Salomon beach on the way back. Beach was not crowded but your mileage may vary as they do bus in cruise passengers which could quickly change that!

No hiking required if you park at Caneel Bay and take the $12 shuttle to and from Honeymoon beach. The chair rental is $25 for the day. Don't pay the $75 fee for a server and a chair. The same crew takes your orders regardless of how much you pay at the gate. The beach is very peaceful and we found a family of sea turtles feeding off the beach so bring some snorkeling gear.

Just gotta say, if i have to hike 40 minutes to get there, it really should be a nude beach. But very lovely. Clear water, amenities, drinks, quiet.

Great beach. You will have to hike from downtown or from the parking area up the hill from town. The hike from the parking area is 20 minutes down and 15 minutes up. Beach has a bar and rental place that looked like it was opening back up soon. If so, there will be a lot of people at the beach from boats. Snorkeling boats stop here in the mid morning for about an hour.
