Ramen Nagi - Shinjuku Golden-gai Honkan is a small noodle restaurant located on the second floor of an old wooden house in the vibrant Golden Gai neighborhood. The atmosphere here is authentic and the smell of their speciality, pungent niboshi ramen, greets you as soon as you enter. The broth for this unique ramen is made by boiling dried sardines for 12 hours, resulting in a bold and distinctive flavor.
Despite querying for a while to get in and it started raining I enjoyed my visit. Now Im not a Ramen expert but I thought it was flavorful and the meat melted in your mouth. The guy in the queue beside me warned me that its a different tasting Ramen to others due to the broth. I opted for the combination spicy and it was great. You queue up the side of the building up a narrow alley and when the light goes off youre free to go up the bright red stairs. Choose your menu option whilst queuing as when you get upstairs you need to order via a machine on the wall and pre pay. There are only around 10 seats so its cosy but food comes quickly.

Coming from a very different culture, it’s hard for me to fully judge, but I truly believe this is an experience worth having. We tried the special ramen, full of flavour 🐟. What really stood out was the long line outside, mostly locals, which already said a lot about the quality of the place. Visiting this kind of traditional spot is a must in Tokyo, especially in such a unique and vibrant bar district. A very special experience.
Josefina R — Google review
This is a unique ramen shop. You need to know this is very Niboahi forward flavor and it was super good. Noodle was also unique with very which was thick and cooked perfectly. If you are looking for more classic one, this is not it. But if you have eaten a lot of ramen already and looking for something different, this maybe for you! Yes. It is a small place but this adds to the character.
Koji O — Google review
What an amazing bowl of ramen! There were many components that came together to pack a punch of delicious flavor. The spice is not too spicy. Loved the 2 types of noodles. Although it’s a sardine broth, it’s not overpowering and it is totally worth trying even if you aren’t typically used to eating fish broth. Nice atmosphere and service. Would definitely go back!
Justin N — Google review
We went for lunch in this lovely small place, with only eight counters but full of character. You can get a bowl of ramen for ¥1,350 for a small portion or ¥1,900 for a large one. The noodles are freshly made and absolutely delicious, and the broth is rich and full of flavour. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and there wasn’t much of a wait at all either to get seated or for the food. You can either pay by card or cash and you don’t really need to book, just walk in. It’s a place I’d definitely recommend and one I’d love to visit again next time I’m in Tokyo.
Federica T — Google review
If you find yourself in the Golden Gai at any hour of the day, you can rest assured that this small, historic ramen shop will be running 24x7. The line moves quickly despite the extremely small seating area and the small staircase up to the kitchen/dining bar is both steep and narrow. But it's an adventure no matter what. Go for the experience - the food may not be as memorable (the noodles are good and while Nibosji Ramen is known for an anchovy-based broth (and it was good), the broth was also loaded with pieces of pork so if that's a thing for you, be aware that pork should be assumed in any Ramen joint that looks and operates like this in Japan). If these walls could talk, they could certainly tell a few stories, too. Greasy, tiny, a relic from the past, and worth a late night slurp ...
Suzanne F — Google review
I’ve never had ramen like this EVER and I mean that in the best way. The soup base was incredibly tasty! If you’re looking for a traditional bowl of ramen, I would say this isn’t the place, but if you want something delicious and a little different, this is for you. Would totally go back again! Also, the best part is that it’s 24hrs so when you’re after a late night comfort craving, this is the spot. We did have to wait in line for a while since it’s so small inside, but I must admit, it was worth it. Once we got in, our food came super fast. Also, I must make note of the staircase… it is pretty steep, so just keep that in mind as well.

Ramen Nagi is the kind of spot where I half expected to see the ghost of Anthony Bourdain pull up a stool, it has that perfect mix of soul, grit, and authenticity he would’ve loved. Small and quaint, but the experience matches the food: rich, bold, and unforgettable. A true Tokyo gem.

Soushi Menya Musashi is a renowned ramen restaurant with over 10 outlets in Tokyo, including its Shinjuku Main Branch which has been serving customers for more than 20 years. The restaurant's name pays homage to Miyamoto Musashi, a legendary swordsman known for his mastery of dual-wielding swords, reflecting the unique 'double soup' technique used in their signature ramen.
Delicious tsukemen with great portions, typical for the dish. Price was a bit higher but fits the location I think. There was a slight wait and a longer line started to form for a weekday dinner.
Paulo G — Google review
On our third day in Tokyo, we decided to try a popular ramen spot for dinner. Despite the 35-minute queue and an additional 10-minute wait after placing our order at the machine, the experience was well worth it. I instantly fell in love with the rich, thick broth and the melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, which was incredibly satisfying. The portions were generous, making it even more enjoyable. This place has left such an impression that I’ll definitely be returning on my next visit to Tokyo!
Super A — Google review
My family and I really enjoyed this Ramen spot. The place had a very good vibe and the staff was super friendly but moe importantly we felt welcomed. The ramen was amazing, probably top 5 of all the ramens I have tried.
Michael N — Google review
Pretty good ramen with thick, gravy like broth and thick springy noodles. Not my favorite bowl of ramen but decent for a cold night. Didn't have to wait too long at around 7pm on Saturday. Service was quite OK too. Order at the kiosk and wait for the food.
Sihan G — Google review
Order at machine before getting started. 10min wait at 7pm on Saturday. Huge portions of thicker type springy ramen, very tender and thick pork, incredible lava egg. Prefer the soup ramen to the dry dipping tsukemen as the dipping sauce isn't as warm and it's chilly weather now in mid Dec. Wonderful atmosphere and service, customers get to wait indoors out of the cold. Not my favourite ramen, but decent. JPY5500 for 4 huge bowls. Water and serviettes provided.
Joyce L — Google review
An interesting ramen shop. The atmosphere is good, you need to wait in line, and there are many people at dinner time. The quantity is sufficient and the taste is delicious.
Yuan — Google review
Originally went for the ramen but was tempted by the recommended Tsukemen. The おすすめTsukemen is a must try. The sauce is rich and full of flavor. Ordering from the ticketing machine is straight forward, they have an English option. Will come again to try the other menus.
Arnold C — Google review
I saw this place many times on Instagram so i decided to have it as my first meal in Japan. However, it was so salty 😬 Pork, ham and broth were all salty. I had the famous Tsukemen with egg. I am sorry to say this but I would never go back again. By the way, staffs were all nice. Good service 👍 Atmosphere was also good. I was there around lunch time but didn't wait so long

Ramen restaurant
Noodle shop
Soba House Konjiki-Hototogisu is a cozy and efficient eatery that serves up generous bowls of ramen soup featuring homemade noodles. This restaurant has gained recognition for its inclusion in the Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants list and earning a one-star rating. The menu features two specialty ramen options: one with soy sauce, pork, and clam-based broth, and another with salt-based broth infused with red sea bream and clam.
An excellent bowl of noodles. Main points are; 1.Broth had excellent depth 2. Noodles were not too heavy 3. Excellent portion of meat on the side as welk as in the ramen. 4. Really nice egg with a little kick....i think maybe soaked in vinegar or some sauce prior to being places in the bowl. All in all an excellent experience and can understand the bib gourmound from Michelin.
Roger V — Google review
We happened to chance upon Soba House Konjiki-Hototogisu when we were looking for lunch options after visiting the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. We also read that it’s on Tabelog, hence we went to check it out! When we arrived at the shop at 1pm, there was already a long queue forming up. The important thing to note is that the signage isn’t clear - one would need to take an e-ticket from a machine beside the shop before queuing up. Don’t join the queue straight away! When it’s your turn, you place your order at the e-kiosk. There’s only 3 - 4 types of ramen, and the shop recommends you to try out the 1) Shio; 2) Shoyu; and 3) Tsuka Soba. Even though we read that this shop is famous for its Shio Soba, we decided to try out all 3. The shop is small - there’s only 6 - 7 counter seats with 1 table seat. It’s not a place where you can sit down comfortably for chit-chats. You leave after you finish your food - this also explains why service and turnover is fast. Ramen wise, it definitely didn’t disappoint - regardless of what soup base you choose its indeed flavourful, albeit slightly on the salty side (we drank till the final drop anyway). The noodles itself were of a certain thickness that was exactly aligned with our tastebuds. If we were to nitpick, the pork chashu was slightly on the fatter side - we prefer the meat to be much leaner. We have high standards towards ramen; while we think the ramen is definitely above average, it did not reach the mind-blowing bar we had in mind. That said, we still highly recommend this ramen place for those that are not as picky about ramen as us!
Marcus T — Google review
Probably due to my concerns over my sodium intake, I don't crave ramen as much as I did years ago when I could bore people with my nuanced insight into all the different broths, noodles, and toppings. That's why when I was chatting with our server Noriko at Den, I was surprised the conversation shifted to where the best ramen was served in Tokyo. Understand that my husband and I just had the most amazing dinner at Den. Of course, we were all ears. Noriko recommended this spot which she said served an excellent shio ramen in quite a small space. We looked for it on Google Maps and found it was conveniently located in Shinjuku Ni Chome quite close to the city's gay bars. You didn't have to twist our respective arms. When we found it in a quiet alley, there was already quite a queue of hungry people. We took a number and waited about twenty minutes for our turn. In the meantime, we were preparing ourselves to enter our orders in the terminal just inside the entrance. There was a Type-A guy who was impatiently policing the process, and believe me, you don't want to do anything to frustrate him. Once our number was called, we were told to sit on a bench to wait for our seats. We got lucky and secured a table for two and didn't get stuck at the packed counter. We both ordered the ¥1,850 Shio Soba with Extra Pork Chashu. It was a hearty bowl with a clean broth, al dente thin noodles, and a couple of large slices of Iberico pork chashu. We didn't realize we were getting a separate plate with each of us receiving three more pork chashu slices. We thought they were already in the broth, but we devoured it all with relish and surprising ease. Not that we were complaining, but competing for room in our bellies was a shared order of ¥550 Duck Loin Rice. Given the bargain price, we were surprised at the size of this side dish and quite enjoyed the succulent duck pieces accompanied by rice, green onions, and tonkotsu sauce. Although he didn't snap at us to hurry up, Mr. Type-A was likely pleased we were among the most expeditious diners in this compact space since the queue only got longer outside. Now that we know what to expect, we'll definitely come back. Domo arigato, Noriko-san. FOOD - 5 stars...shio ramen done right plus delicious pork and duck AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...it's a tight fit even if you get a table SERVICE - 3.5 stars...Mr. Type-A didn't become a Facebook buddy TOTAL - 5 stars...it's all about the ramen...trust Noriko
Ed U — Google review
A popular soba restaurant amongst locals and foreigners, customers will need to get a queue number ticket and wait outside close to your dining time, before being allowed inside to order and pay through a machine. After which, some waiting is expected in a holding area until counter seats free up to be taken. The service and kitchen crew operates efficiently and directly, and diners are expected to consume without using mobile devices or having long conversations, which extend the wait time for subsequent patrons. Personally, with many noodle shops to choose from in Japan, what makes this meal memorable are the unique toppings and quality pork chashu, which is enjoyably chewy and juicy. The noodles are also smooth and have a nice bite, complete with a gooey ajitama egg as a classic component. In their recommended shio soba, three types of broth - sea bream, Japanese soup stock, and hamaguri clam broth, are combined to create refreshing composition with a depth of flavour. Topped with a floral bergamot-flavored shirasu (whitebait) sauce, sweet and tart inca-berry sauce, and porcini duxelles (adding an earthy, mushroom-y element to the soup), this dish is designed to provide a gradual change in taste and aroma as one enjoys its sophisticated flavour notes.
Yè — Google review
Their special shio ramen here was an elegant and beautifully balanced bowl. The clear golden broth carried a deep umami that’s both gentle and layered, I could taste the refined salt base intertwined with seafood notes. The thin noodles soaked up the broth perfectly, offering a smooth yet firm texture. Each topping added a distinct accent: the truffle brought aromatic richness, the green seaweed added freshness, and the slices of pork were tender and flavorful. The overall presentation was stunning, with a sense of precision and harmony that reflected the shop’s quality😍
Yasuやす — Google review
Michelin star ramen in Tokyo. Both the souped ramen and dipping one are amazing. They use black truffle in their sauce. There is a machine to get a “waiting ticket” on the day. They are only open between 11 to 2pm. In busy season, good idea to be there before open to get a ticket.
Wei F — Google review
I ordered Shio Ramen with Chashu pork and a rice bowl with duck. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The ramen had a beautiful color and a rich, full-bodied flavor that felt perfectly balanced. The salt level was just right, not too strong and not too weak, which made the broth incredibly pleasant to enjoy until the very last sip. Everything tasted fresh and was carefully prepared, and the portion sizes were ideal. It was a satisfying and comforting meal in every sense. The restaurant itself has a charming and traditional atmosphere. The interior is built in a warm wooden style that feels cozy and authentic, with a gentle and inviting character. It is not a large place, but that adds to its charm and intimacy. You place your order at a vending machine, which is available in both Japanese and English. The system is easy to understand, with clear pictures and instructions, making it very accessible for everyone. The service was also very kind and welcoming, and the staff worked efficiently and attentively. Overall, it is a wonderful place to stop by if you are in the area. Great food, warm atmosphere, and friendly service make it well worth a visit. A solid 4 out of 5 stars.
Paul O — Google review
An awesome place for a fantastic bowl of soba noodles. I opted for the special shio soba. It was great! The depth of flavour in the broth was phenomenal. Yes, there’s a wait. Yes, the place is a little cramped (which adds to the atmosphere). However, grab a ticket, get in line and cosy up to your neighbour as the food is worth it. Tip: grab a ticket before the restaurant opens. Download the Line app and they will tell you when to return to the restaurant.

Fūunji is a bustling ramen shop known for serving some of the best tsukemen, or dipping noodles, in the world. The creamy blend of chicken soup and fish powder creates a thick, gravy-like texture that perfectly coats each bite of ramen. Chef and owner Miyake-san continues to impress patrons with his culinary skills at this hole-in-the-wall establishment.
This was one of my favorite meals in Japan. No frills, quick service, simple menu — but jam packed full of flavor — all for such a reasonable price. I got there around 11:05am, right after it opened (on a Thursday), and there was already a line. I debated whether to wait but felt encouraged when I saw tons of locals coming on their lunch break and they seemed undeterred (albeit a little disappointed that the tourists have found their spot). Worth the visit — and the wait!
Minhee C — Google review
Honestly amazing, and 100% worth a visit! I went pretty early, the queue formed about 15-20 minutes before opening. So highly recommend doing the same so you can grab a spot immediately when it opens. It's all counter seats, you buy a ticket of what meal you want when you enter - the machine takes both card and cash. I ordered their signature tsukemen, the noodles were thick, chewy and delicious. It's a decent portion, so only order extra noodles if you're really hungry. The broth itself is thick, full of flavour with chunks of meat and egg within. It's salty and everything you want and didn't know you needed in a tsukemen.
Lindy L — Google review
We accidentaly came to this popular ramen shop. But to our taste buds, it is not good and broth too salty. We don't mind about about the atmosphere, it is small and giving authentic Japanese ramen bar vibes which is good. The service was also okay, there were about 3-4 staff when were there and they seem nice but always on a rush. We came when they just opened and we didn't know it was popular, there were already a line after 15 minutes. There are ony 4 items in the menu, 2 traditional ramen and 2 Tsukumen (dipping noodles). There are 4 of us in the family and each got a ramen and none of us finished! We didn't liked it, as it was too salty. Maybe it is different on some other days? maybe it was the ambiance that made it popular? There are alot of ramen shops around Tokyo, maybe some are not so good, but definitely not too salty.
John G — Google review
The best ramen I had during our family's trip in Tokyo. Their noodles had the right firmness and it was not too thick nor thin. The broth it came with was rich and tasty but not overpowering. You have and option to have your order in medium or large which is good for people who eat a lot or less. Once you finish the noodles, you can pour hot water on the leftover broth making it a soup, making it a perfect ending to your meal.

CASH ONLY | 2 KINDS OF RAMEN | RICH FLAVOR You enter this quite narrow street and you will see this ramen place. You will enter and go to the machine to get your style of ramen. It appears the broth is the same for the ramen and broth in the dipping noodles. Then you will fall in line to get seated. When we visited around 5:30pm it’s filled and waited for like 20mins. We spent 25,000 yen for two orders of ramen and some few extra sides. This place offers traditional ramen and dipping noodles ramen. The broth was so rich and the noodles for ramen is mid thin and their dipping noodles has the thick noodles. The broth maybe quite salty for some and thick and so they offer hot water so you can adjust in a way. The place was good and plus the kind of show where you can see how they prepare it in front of you.
Jei F — Google review
Amazing place! Went there twice in my japan trip. They have 2 dishes, noodles and ramen. Both are super rich in flavor and you have the option to choose medium and large portions (for the same price). You may have to queue for 15-20 minutes but it is definitly worth the wait!
Gonza S — Google review
We love the authentic ramen noodle experience at this little restaurant. You pay for your order at a machine then wait for a seat to open up at the bar. The service is very efficient and you get to see them preparing the dishes.

Such a great meal. We visited 30 mins before closing and managed to get a couple of seats. Super friendly and welcoming team. Tsukemen was so delicious - the noodles were cooked to perfection and the broth was rich and thick.

Ramen Tatsunoya Shinjuku is a renowned restaurant that serves authentic Tonkotsu ramen from Kurume City, Fukuoka, the birthplace of this classic dish. With a history dating back to 1953, it's a prominent fixture in Shinjuku's bustling ramen scene. The restaurant offers both traditional ramen and tsukemen, where the soup and noodles are served separately.
What a great bowl of tsukemen! My wife ordered the ramen. I honestly can't recommend which I liked more! So much flavor and balance in a bowl, THIS is why you come to Tokyo to eat! You HAVE to eat here!

Ramen Tatsunoya is a social media-famous spot that had me lining up for about 30 minutes, but the line moves quickly. I went for the Tsukemen, which is heavily featured online. Overall, it was decent, but I’d had the best Tsukemen in Osaka, so this one felt a bit less special. The dipping broth was unique with a meaty aroma — likely from dried meats simmered for hours — but the flavour didn’t quite hit me. The standout was definitely the pork: lean, tender, and fresh, a solid highlight of the meal. The noodles could’ve been thicker, as they didn’t soak up the broth as much as I’d hoped. Maybe the broth wasn’t warm enough or rich enough to cling properly to the noodles. One highlight was the leftover dipping broth: reheated with rice, it became the best part of the meal — warm, flavourful, and comforting. Would I line up again? Probably not. But if you want to try Tsukemen and see what the hype is about, it’s worth checking out.

Dipping Ramen! The dipping sauce is not too thick but full of umami. You can get it in small, medium and large and if you are still hungry after that and you still have some sauce left??? What to do…..you tell the waiter that you want some rice and you can make another small yummy meal! Don’t miss this one

The place is small hence the crowd. That and the good food. While waiting times can be upwards of ten minutes, it is very organized. At first you stand in a queue and then by order, you are called to place your order and buy coupon. Only cash is accepted. Then you go back to the queue. Once the food is ready, you are called in and seated. Food comes immediately. I ordered tonkotsu ramen and it was delicious. Serving size is perfect. More locals than tourists so I feel it was more authentic.
Chhanda B — Google review
The ramen was good, not exceptional in my experience but good. It is personal tastes, but I have had better ramen elsewhere without a long queue. I had the normal ramen not the dipping noodles. The queue was long but the organization and staff were excellent. Waiting about 30 minutes to be seated and food came quickly afterwards. Once inside the service was great and the atmosphere was relaxed.
Steven C — Google review
Food was superb! This was my second time trying the dipping ramen, and this experience was far better than my first one as the soup was far richer in terms of flavor. I went at 11:20AM, and there was already a line, albeit a short one. You line up outside first, then you’re called in to put in your order, then you come back out to the line. Once you’re called back in for the second time, you are able to take a seat with your food to come in just a few minutes. This is definitely a must try in Shinjuku.

Very good ramen, I ordered the spicy tonkatsu. The noodles were very bouncy and firm, the broth was rich and deep, the pork was super tender and the egg was perfectly cooked, cant ask for more. I also ordered the pork over rice and it was some of the best I have had in Japan yet, really recomend it.
Carlos T — Google review
Very friendly and attentive host! We wanted to try this place after eating at Ichiran the previous day, and we think Tatsunoya is better! I had the spicy dish which was very delicious of you enjoy a zing, while my wife had a creamier, non spicy option that she loved. Would definitely come again!

Ebisoba Ichigen Shinjuku branch is a ramen restaurant that originated in Sapporo City, Hokkaido and is known for its specialty shrimp ramen. The rich and savory soup is made by simmering sweet shrimp shells to create a concentrated shrimp stock, with original shrimp oil added at the end. This branch offers ramen with soup stock extracted from a large amount of sweet shrimps, providing a flavorful experience.
I’m not really into ramen, but Ebisoba Ichigen is a hidden gem for me. The shrimp and miso (rich option) ramen here was tasty and full of flavor. The gyoza was also nice. I’ll definitely come back again.
Nhi B — Google review
Ebisoba Ichigen in Shinjuku is a must-visit for shrimp ramen lovers. Their signature prawn-tonkotsu broth is rich, creamy, and packed with umami, offering a unique twist on traditional ramen. You can customize your bowl by choosing from three broth intensities—“そのまま” (pure shrimp), “ほどほど” (balanced with pork), or “あじわい” (richer pork blend)—and select from miso, shio, or shoyu flavors. The noodles are firm and chewy, and the toppings like char siu and seasoned egg complement the soup perfectly. It's a cozy, counter-only spot with a vending machine ordering system, making it a quick and satisfying stop in Shinjuku.

This is a famous shrimp miso ramen in Japan. You may see an instant noodles of this restaurant in stores in Japan. The combination of shrimp and miso is excellent in the soup. You can also choose shrimp & salt soup, or, shrimp & soy source.
なめろう — Google review
My wife and I traveled 30 minutes to this place and it did not disappoint. Just be cognizant the soup base is shrimp based. So your three options are Shrimp and Miso, Shrimp and Soy, Shrimp and salt (or just shrimp). You can then select how rich you want it. We ordered the double order of noodles and it was a lot of food, we’ll only go with the normal portion next time lol. We also ordered the fried gyoza and rice ball. We were super full and satisfied and my wife had an amazing experience. For the people saying the staff isn’t friendly is not correct, the staff was amazing and kind and friendly and more importantly, patient !

Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from. We visited this location and were pleasantly surprised! The staff were so kind and greeted everyone in and out, so efficient with service and never kept us waiting, and kept the area super clean! As soon as you go in you order on the screen and then take the ticket up to a seat, once that is done they will bring you your ramen to enjoy! The ramen was absolutely worth the little drive we had and so delicious! We got the larger portion of noodles and it was way too much for lunch as it was a VERY big portion! But if you’re going in very hungry would recommend otherwise the normal portion is perfect! We also tried the rice and gyoza; both of these were delicious as well! The place is smaller but we had no issues finding a seat as everyone cycled out fairly quickly. The atmosphere was relaxing but busy! Overall we would highly recommend for some great ramen and will definitely visit again! Also super friendly to foreigners!
Brandi A — Google review
I got the shrimp and miso ramen with the rich broth option. Machine is easy to order on using English and can add optional add ons such as extra pork or extra egg, thick or thin noodles, light/medium/rich broth. I got an extra egg by accident but was worth it. Also a side of gyoza and a beer. All tasted great and reasonably priced.
Connah N — Google review
The shrimp broth ramen I had was the best I’ve ever tasted, like swimming in a pool of shrimp. I highly recommend it. There are numerous branches across Japan. I first tried it in Sapporo and then again in Tokyo.

A MUST go to ramen store each time I’m in Japan. The noodles are super springy. Each mouth comes with the shrimp taste from the broth. The menu is in English and explains the steps to order. Gyoza was well cooked with one side being crispy.

Ramen Hayashida in Shinjuku has gained a loyal following since its opening, known for its delicious ramen made with a unique soup base of duck, konbu, and daisendori chicken. The shop offers a laid-back atmosphere with dim lighting and counter seats to allow customers to focus on the food. It's a great spot for ramen enthusiasts looking for something new and different. The process involves ordering and paying at a vending machine before waiting in line for an open seat.
The chicken shoyu broth - wow, creamy, silky, rich and very very tasty. With perfectly cooked noodles and high-quality toppings. Small shop that's cash only. Fast service and a clean, modern feel. Order via a vending machine (cue google lens/translate if you don’t read Japanese). Expect queues but its worth the wait, and it moves quick.

I knew this place was really popular so I went before dinner rush, 4:30pm and we were seated right away. Order on a machine that doesn’t have English settings (which is fine, just be prepared for what you want to order). I ordered the chicken paitan, it was fine. Just made me realize I’m not a paitan person. They have the reddest yolks I have ever seen during my time in Japan. Overall good ramen spot.

Very welcoming family vibes. The staff members were all super friendly and helpful. We had two different Ramen which were both the best we had so far in Tokyo. Free drinking water and only 4 drinks to choose from (which is fine for me). You sit at the bar / kitchen counter, so you can see how your food is prepared. Highly recommend this place.

AMAZING all around. We finished hours of shopping in Shibuya and went out of our way to go here. IT WAS WORTH IT 100000 times over. Small little shop with vending machine ramen. My boyfriend got the duck ramen and I got the tantanmen ramen for a little heat. The hot broth felt sooo good on my tummy after such a long day. Super flavorful and rich. It had firm, thin ramen noodles, which are my absolute favorite. The women running the kitchen were so sweet and easy to talk to. Planning on coming here every time I visit Japan!
Cami — Google review
Went here based on the excellent reviews. There was no wait when I arrived. I ordered from the kiosk and took my seat at the counter. Overall the staff and atmosphere didn’t give me the same welcoming charm as is typical for ramen spots. There was nothing negative about it just not as good as I’ve been used to. The ramen was good, with a nice clean broth. I got one soy and one salt based duck/chicken ramen. It was not to my taste but there was nothing negative I could say about it. Just no major wow factor for me. The duck and chicken meat were both tasty. I think this ramen spot could be really good for some, depends on your taste

Ramen Hayashida in Shinjuku serves an outstanding shoyu and shio ramen, with a depth and originality of flavor that truly stands out. You can taste the craftsmanship in every bite. Be prepared, though, there’s usually at least a 30-minute wait for a seat. The line moves fairly quickly, but you’ll still need to spend some time standing. In the end, it’s absolutely worth the wait.
Natalia G — Google review
One of the best shoyu ramen I’ve ever had. The chicken was incredibly juicy and tender. I couldn’t believe chicken could be this soft. The shoyu broth was simple yet paired perfectly with the noodles. Definitely worth trying if you’re in the area.

This one may take the top spot for Ramen I've had in Japan so far. My friend and I got here around 1130ish and there was a line of about 5 or 6 people by then. We probably waited about 15 minutes before being let in. Japanese only ordering machine but easy to tell what is what. We ordered a shio and sboyu ramen. Both were absolutely divine. This place is awesome! Thank you Ramen Hayashida.

Ramen Kaijin is a well-regarded ramen restaurant located in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It's known for its exceptional shio ramen, a lighter and more delicate alternative to the popular tonkotsu flavor. The name 'Kaijin,' meaning 'god of the sea,' reflects the restaurant's specialty in incorporating a rich salt-based broth made from freshly caught sea bream, yellowtail amberjack, salmon, and conger eel.
Absolutely amazing ramen experience at Ramen Kaijin! I had their signature shio ramen, and the soup was light and refreshing, made from fresh fish like red sea bream and conger eel. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the seafood and chicken meatballs were tender and flavorful. I also loved the grilled rice ball with mackerel, which turned into a delicious zosui when added to the soup. The English menu made ordering easy, and the wait was worth it for such a memorable meal. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. When it started raining as I left, they kindly offered me an umbrella, which made my day. Thank you, Ramen Kaijin team, for your care and hospitality—I sincerely hope you see this review!

This place is for those who appreciate subtlety and seasonality in ramen. The ever-changing fish broth keeps things fresh, and the topping choices show real thought. The meatballs offer variety and some surprises. Worth a try if you’re into lighter, fish-based ramen. My full review can be found on my blog
Ah R — Google review
Wonderful little ramen place with a lighter, more subtle take on ramen. The fish broth and seafood meatballs are super light but also very flavorful. Staff is friendly and the place offers a great vibe.
Ken T — Google review
A wonderful place to try a different kind of ramen, seafood. The broth was so light and slightly salty, it didn’t make you feel really full afterwards like a lot of other broths. The shrimp meatball and chicken meatball toppings were also delicious. The noodles were thin and easy to eat. The service was nice and it feels like a hidden gem in Shinjuku
Eat L — Google review
This ramen shop is a good break from the usual rich, meat-based ramen. They serve thin, firm noodles that go really well with the strong dashi stock made from grilling and then simmering around 4-5 types of fish usually— this time; golden-eyed snapper, bonito, conger eel, and red sea bream. They serve it with grilled heshiko (fermented mackerel) rice ball which is recommended to be dipped in the soup and consumed like porridge. It was really light, perhaps a little too mild for my taste, but my mom loved it.
Mika S — Google review
A great spot if you’re into seafood ramen! The broth is super flavorful and light, made from fish and seafood instead of the usual pork. The portions are big for me. They even include an onigiri, which is a nice touch. The place itself is pretty small but cozy, and the staff are friendly. It’s a bit different from your typical ramen experience, but definitely worth trying if you’re in Shinjuku and craving something unique!
Buc — Google review
I don’t think I’ve appreciated shio ramen until I tried their ramen. I kept saying it’s surprisingly good as I ate! Make sure to look at the reference photos in order to easily locate the place because Gmaps makes an error when you’re really close by. Look for the stairs between Lad’s and TUC, to the right of the huge lighted arch.

Went to the Shinjuku area and stopped by this quaint little ramen shop on the 2nd floor after seeing it recommended by Paolo from Tokyo. Tried the fish-based ramen — it was clean, light, and full of flavor! The homemade fish cake was delicious, and the noodles had a great texture. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and tasty food. 100% recommend 👌

Tsukemen Gonokami Seisakusho Shinjuku is a compact and unassuming restaurant located behind Shinjuku's Takashimaya department store. It is known for its immensely popular tsukemen, a type of dipping ramen that attracts long lines of eager customers, especially on weekends. The signature dish is the ebi (shrimp) tsukemen, where thick, chewy noodles are dipped into a hot, dense soup made with a generous amount of shrimp.
Every time I return back to Japan, I subconsciously anticipate the next great bowl of noodles that's going to proverbially change my life. Tsukemen (dry ramen noodles, prepared for dipping in a concentrated broth or consumme) is a favourite of mine above its soupy-er and more famous sibling. Characteristically, the "men"/"mein" is a thicker cut egg noodle that, when paired with a well developed broth-concentrate, plays the perfect vessel for carrying grenades of umami into your gullet. In many ways, it feels more like an analogue to torn bread and dip, or soup, rather than other noodle dishes. Gonokami uses a unique blend of misoshiro and ebi (shrimp/prawn) along with various cuts of house cooked and cured tonkotsu. I had no idea this spot was reputable, but I should have known. From the look of the noodles in online snaps to succinct "bowling" (technically not plating) to the Kaiju-esque prawn banner out front, all signs pointed to potential foodgasm. At GS, the sum of its parts is what makes this dry noodle interpretation truly unique. My friend who has also dined here, prescribed it as almost Italian leaning, the way the broth is essentially a rue with an intense sweetness from the prawn infusion, lambasted thereafter by some sourness from the pickled pork, earthy funk from the miso and finally shaved shallots to cut everything. A nice textural contrast is added with the lotus root blocks in the dipping broth as well. For my money, this is, contextually, an upper tier dining experience back home in Sydney. With places charging around $50 AUD for product with half the heart/effort/sourcing, it feels like the best I can do to top up the bill and give this young team the props they deserve is some words from the head, heart and extremely satisfied stomach. Like any other Ramen-Ya, a ticket system is used whereby your order is captured in advance of your seating. Get there early!
Mike Y — Google review
The soup is very thick and on the salty side and you can really taste the shrimp but I like it. The portion is very generous and if u opt for the small portion noodle they offer you one more free topping . Pork and chicken both are good but the bamboo shoot is exceptionally good, chunky piece. The egg is good too and the blanch cabbage is perfect to cut the grease and saltiness. There at 5.45 on a weekday and got in immediately
J S — Google review
Walked in on a weekday afternoon and waited around 10 minutes to get in. I have no opinions regarding the taste of the broth because it was quite nice actually, not too salty to my liking. However, the reason why I could not give it a solid 5 stars is because I think the whole dining experience is flawed for people who enjoy a hot bowl of noodle just like me. The noodle was served cold in a cold bowl, and the broth they gave me was not boiling hot. When I added the noodle to the broth, the broth cooled down even faster. And in less than 10 minutes, the broth was not able to make the noodle hot again even I soaked them for a longer period of time. I asked if the staff could help me re-heat or microwave the broth to make it hot again and the reply was no. They said I could purchase for another fresh 'hot' broth, or add hot water into the bowl. I only enjoyed the first 1/3 bowl of the noodles when it was still hot. After that the noodle was barely warm after soaking and the broth became more thick and oily. The egg was overcooked too.
Kero C — Google review
I went there at 5pm and there was a line already. I ordered special shrimp dipping noodles and it cost ¥1700. The dipping sauce was rich in shrimp flavor but was a little salty. In the special mealset, an egg, pork, chicken, bamboo shoots, and grilled cheese were also included but I found them not blended in with the soup. Personally, I prefer the dipping noodles near Ueno station.
Hyso C — Google review
I was hesitant to go here for lunch since I don’t necessarily like shrimp. My friend convinced me to go citing this as one of his favorites. I’m so glad I dined here today. The staff took good care of us. The restaurant provided a nice blend of busy cozy. But most importantly, the food was delicious. Thank you again to the staff and I hope to visit here again in the future. P.S. 1. If you’re like me and not sure what to order, order the shrimp tsukemen with egg. P.S. 2. A different review complained that the noodles/broth was cold. My understanding is that this is on purpose. It did not affect the quality of my meal.
Maxwell B — Google review
Absolutely incredible dipping noodles — probably the best I’ve ever had. The tomato broth is a must-try: rich, flavorful, and totally comforting. The shrimp-flavored noodles have a unique depth that sets them apart. There’s always a line, but that just shows how popular (and worth it) this place is. I’d happily wait all over again. A real gem!
Yichi Z — Google review
Small, clean and neat setup. Did not wait too long to dine. Tsukemen was good and strong in flavor, comes with a piece of mozarella cheese that was interesting.

The tsukemen was ridiculously good. I was a little bit wary of the fish broth and meat combination but turned to be one of the favourite meals I had during my two weeks in Japan. The shop is celebrated for its foreign-friendly atmosphere, providing English menus and excellent service. Additionally, the staff are known for their friendliness and attention to detail, offering aprons and hair ties to enhance the dining experience.
Went here with a group of friends. The food here is very good, would like to try their other ramen another time. The staff were extremely friendly. Rokurinsha is a renowned ramen restaurant located in Tokyo Station's Ramen Street. Since its establishment in 2009, it has gained fame for its specialty dish known as tsukemen, or dipping noodles. The eatery is easily identifiable by the long line of eager customers waiting to savor their rich and flavorful soup that has set the standard for this type of ramen.
A must visit if you love rich, flavorful tsukemen! Even at 8:30 PM, the line at the Tokyo Station Ramen Street branch was about 30 minutes long, totally worth it. Their signature seafood & pork bone dipping broth is salty, thick, and aromatic. On its own it’s heavy, but paired with their ultra thick, springy noodles, it’s just perfect. The broth clings beautifully to the noodles, and the thick cut chashu, soft boiled egg, nori, and green onions make it a hearty and satisfying bowl. Don’t miss the wari soup at the end, diluting the leftover broth into a lighter clear soup is the traditional (and very satisfying) way to finish. I also tried the ramen, which is lighter but still tasty. That said, if you love bold, heavy flavors, the tsukemen is definitely the highlight. Rokurinsha’s tsukemen is truly next level. Worth the wait!
Moon R — Google review
I pass this restaurant at least four times a week since I work nearby. It always has a long queue, so I thought, why not check it out? I waited around 35 minutes before reaching the ticket machine and around 8-10 minutes before getting my food. I had the large special dip noodles, which cost me 1300 Yen. The noodles were great, and the chasu was very delicious. However, I didn’t taste anything special in the soup. Was it tasty? Yes! But would I queue again to eat it? Probably not.

When you visit Tokyo Station, you definitely have to try this popular ramen shop! We waited about 15 mins in line and it’s a self-order system. This place is famous for its dipping noodles, so we decided to try two different types. One was spicy, and while it was just okay, the noodles were fantastic - super chewy and delicious! ! Overall, it’s a ramen spot worth checking out!
SY K — Google review
Nestled in the basement of Tokyo Station, along the bustling and iconic Ramen Street, lies one of the city’s most unforgettable tsukemen spots. Though the space is compact, the experience is anything but small. This shop specializes in tsukemen, or dipping ramen, and it’s a masterclass in flavor and texture. The dipping sauce is a rich, umami-laden broth—deeply savory with subtle hints of sweetness and smokiness. It coats the noodles beautifully, elevating each bite into something crave-worthy. The noodles themselves are thick, springy, and perfectly chewy, crafted to hold their own against the bold broth. Despite its limited seating, the restaurant operates with remarkable efficiency. The flow of diners is smooth and systematic, making it easy to get in and out without feeling rushed. It’s a testament to Japanese precision and hospitality. Every time I’m in Tokyo, this ramen shop is a must. It’s not just a meal—it’s a pilgrimage.

We visited this ramen spot late in the evening and were pleasantly surprised to find no queue. The ramen was excellent—rich in flavor and very satisfying. Portions are very generous, so keep that in mind if you’re not too hungry. We tried both the dipping ramen and the regular one; I’d definitely recommend the dipping ramen for its depth of flavor. The extra meat is worth adding too—just skip the minced version. Great experience overall!

Come at around 7 pm friday, wait for around 30 mins The tsukemen is worth the hype ! I ordered Tsukemen special with fresh shichimi - It was very delicious. All the topping goes well with the soup. I really liked the fresh shichimi - it added a unique flavor and refreshing taste to the soup. Overall I really enjoyed this ! Would revisit if possible ** Tokyo station is super complex, make sure you exit the right exit or else you need to walk 10 mins more like me lol

Ramen and fried chicken done right. We were a group of ten and we have no complaints.
Raymond D — Google review
First time trying a bankara ramen. We didn't really get curious about the ramen until after we already ate. Ramen broth was kept hot and rich living up to its name, pork bankara ramen. We also had the pork skewer on rice with raw egg, gyoza, and chinese siumai. The only thing is that we came in as a party of 12. And ordered before the rest of the group, but our order wasn't coming until I came up to the restaurant personnel. It turned out our meal ticket after payment didn't get collected.

Small but efficient allocation of dining space Typically at Japanese establishments There is a ticketing kiosk outside where u pick your dish and pay and a ticket pops out for u to redeem your food inside But here u Order through the waiter and pay at the kiosk We got the number 1 best selling pork ramen The broth was deep and rich Noodles cooked al dente Really well done

This is the best ramen I ever had, and I mean it. The flavor of the broth and eggs are unmatched. The staff were helpful and kind (even to us foreigners). The gyoza was okay. The atmosphere is relaxing and fun. Definitely recommend this spot for yummy ramen, and I will be back in the future!

Always saw this place on YouTube live stream. So I tried it. The result is that it is very good and tasty ramen, chicken wings and great refreshing drinks. The guy who runs the place is very nice and speaks a little English! Clean toilets also.

I loved everything about this restaurant! Literally the best ramen I've ever had. If you're unable to read Japanese, be sure to download Google Lens. This app was able to translate the menu perfectly. I tried different ramen selections and gyoza...my only complaint is not being able to bring any home with me. A must try!

Ramen Takahashi Shinjuku Main Store has redefined ramen dining, offering a fine dining experience with its immaculate design and counter seating concept. The meal ticket machine outside provides various options and toppings for their tonkotsu and seafood-based ramen. The sharpness of their Shio and Shoyu ramen is addictive. Despite the light broth, it's flavorful without being overwhelming.
Quaint, lovely ramen shop. The service was excellent and the food, immaculate. The ‘Yakiago’ broth ramen was amazing. We were able to put our suitcases inside which was extremely accommodating of them. We are grateful for the service, the kindness, and of course a fantastic meal!

Ramen Takahashi Shinjuku Main Store was a disappointment for me. The broth destroyed the food for me. Probably because i am not a big fan of these kind of fishy grilled/burn taste. I even ordered the Japanese variant without soup… The location needs a refurbishment. The place only takes cash, so I needed to run over the street to withdraw money from the ATM.

I’ve eaten here a couple of times, and I love their ramen! It could be a bit salty and fatty for other people, but for me, it was just the right balance of flavors! The noodles, broth, and chasu were on point. I always finish the whole bowl without any leftovers. One of my favorite ramen shop in Shinjuku.
Rhein B — Google review
This ramen shop offers 12-15 counter seats. You purchase your tickets from a vending machine outside. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I visited after 5 PM, and the restaurant was about 40% full. Upon being seated, we were offered a sample of their flying fish dashi served in a tea cup (see photo). This fish broth is clean and light, serving as a subtle palate cleanser rather than a main flavor component. Given the summer heat, I ordered their cold noodles served in clam broth and a bowl of chashu-don (BBQ pork over rice) for a total of JPY 1970. The noodles came with sudachi (Japanese citrus fruit), seasoned bamboo shoots, a slice of chashu, a hard-boiled egg, and some seaweed. The broth was very clean and light, though somewhat subtle in flavor. However, served chilled, it provided a very welcome reprieve from the Tokyo summer heat. The sudachi added a nice citrus and tart kick to the noodles; otherwise, the components were simple but well-executed. The chashu-don was a satisfying addition that ensured I left full. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're seeking a bowl of chilled noodles with clean, subtle flavors.
J C — Google review
We stopped by Ramen Takahashi in Shinjuku and tried their “Yakiago” Salty Ramen. It turned out to be one of the best bowls we had in Tokyo. The broth has a clean, light salt flavor with a distinct umami depth that comes from yaki-ago - roasted flying fish - which they use as part of their soup base. This gives the ramen a subtle seafood aroma without being overpowering. The noodles were springy and well balanced with the broth, and we liked that you could pour the leftover soup over rice at the end to enjoy it differently. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming despite being right in the heart of Shinjuku. Definitely a great spot if you want to try a refined, seafood-based ramen done right.
Rares S — Google review
Amazing ramen spot in Tokyo! I tried both the cold summer ramen and the rich soy-based hot ramen both were excellent. The chilled ramen was light, refreshing, and full of umami. The noodles were smooth and the toppings were super fresh. The hot ramen had a deep, flavorful broth with tender slices of pork and just the right amount of fat. So satisfying! Highly recommend this place if you love quality ramen with great balance and taste.

loved the texture of the noodles firm chewy but not too much. Ordered the dry noodles but would wanna try the dipping sauce too. Very good vibe and quick service . However not suitable for large groups.

Really rich broth and tender meats. It was a bit salty for my boyfriend but I really enjoyed it. Update: was so good I went back again but unfortunately this time they gave me less meat and an egg despite me ordering the same thing. Still yummy though.

Ramen Yamaguchi is a cozy ramen shop conveniently located near Takadanobaba station. It has gained popularity among tourists and has been featured in the Michelin Guide recommendation list. The shop offers two main types of ramen: Tsuke Soba, their version of tsukemen, and Tori Soba, traditional shoyu ramen. The portion sizes are generous, with the dipping noodles easily serving 2-3 people.
Very delicious, must visit. Order the recommended menu to try everything. The egg is the best. Pork has special aroma when eat, very special. The bamboo shoots are to die for. Overall is super impress experience.

Soup is still good, but just tastes normal as others are becoming better and better. It’s been 1.5 years since my last visit. Before, it’s one of my favorite chicken shoyu/shio ramen. However, it didn’t grow much. I still like it, but doubt if it’s still one of the top chicken ramen in Tokyo. The noodles are cooked to a bit soft, and the soup lacks deeper layers of tastes… Good thing is the attitude of chefs is still amazing. Details such as how carefully they cool down and organize the ramen in the bowl prove it well.
Michael J — Google review
We came around 5PM on weekends and waited around 20mins to get seats. The noodles were tasted pretty amazing. Soup was not heavy at all. The atmosphere was very nice as they were controlling the number of people stays in the store. Average adult male cost is around 2000円(A noodle set and single topping) ‼️Important reminders‼️ - the store does not accept cash payment. People needs to use credit cards and online payment to pre-order the foods at vending machine - if you are not coming alone, please queue together. (They do not accept representing. If you come as 3 people, please all standby in the queue) - if there’s no empty seat, staff will firstly call you in to pre-order foods at vending machine. Once you place the order, give the receipts to staff and return to the queue and waiting outside. Hope these helps :)

Cosy little shop, easy to get to. I had the house special and it did not disappoint. I'd taken a train and walked 1km to get here, would probably have walked double and lined up knowing what I know now, but Monday night it was nice and quiet, no wait. Clean, rich yet light broth in mouth texture. Noodles cooked as you'd expect, just perfect with a little chew. Generous meat servings, bamboo and wonderful whole egg. Staff were helpful while I worked out the self serve ticket machine. Do yourself a favor and stop in here. Subarashi!

Here you need to order from the wending machine. The place is small. All counter seat. They have 12 seats. We order salt and shoyu ramen. Both come with slice pork, egg, wantan and bamboo shoot. The broth is clear not that oily. Nothing special. It taste normal not wow. The wantan is not bad. Like the salt ramen.

This place was in the Michelin guide book 2015/2016 So my hopes were high for a delicate balance, and it delivered If you like a good balance of flavors, I do recommend this placez but if you're looking for a strong flavor, there are other places I would go to. Unlike most places that offer Tsukemen(dipping noodles) this place gives you the noodles in water, I'm assuming do the noodles don't clump together The soup was nice and well balanced, a different flavor than any other place I've been It also had wontons and a flavored egg(very nice deep red yolks) The noodles had a nice consistency, I'm also assuming made specifically for them I would recommend to people looking for a more high end ramen experience at a lower price.

I’m a ramen enthusiast and chose this place to have my first bowl in Japan. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. The special chicken ramen (¥1480) is absolutely delicious: the noodles are outstanding and the broth is delicately balanced. The egg was perfect, the hallmark of a great ramen shop. Corteous service, easy to order, some English spoken.

Ramen Horiuchi is a cozy and casual ramen bar located in Shinjuku, known for its traditional Japanese ramen. The crowd favorite is the shoyu ramen, featuring springy noodles and a mild soy-based broth. The menu also offers other delicious options to try. After becoming independent from Ramen Manrai, Horiuchi opened a new restaurant in Nishi Shinjuku, serving light and smooth shoyu-based soup made with pork bones and chicken bones.
Such delicious ramen! My husband and I have the pork broth and it was delicious. The staff couldn’t speak English, but they were very helpful and friendly despite this. If you are not Japanese, I would recommend sharing a bowl with someone. My husband and I could have certainly shared. The serving sizes are massive!

If you’re near Shinjuku Station’s West Exit, I highly recommend this ramen shop. It’s a small place with just counter seating, but the soy sauce ramen is fantastic. I tried the “Tsukimi Ramen,” which has an egg in it, and it was delicious. When I visited, there weren’t any other foreign tourists, but I’m sure you’ll love it too. Definitely check it out!

So worth!! Got the chashu zaru style because of heat and prepare to eat! You see the first layer of pork on top, but there's more underneath! The portion is noodles is just perfect too! Broth was perfect umami, not too salty, well balanced. All this for ~1100 yen!

A surprisingly good ramen spot with excellent noodles. While the broth and pork weren't to my taste, overall, it's a very solid ramen shop.

Japan has a bunch of ramen. I’ve traveled all over the country and I really gotta say, this place is my favorite. The chashu zaruramen (tsukemen) is my favorite. The chashu is the best part. A bunch of amazing pork! They really cook it right. The soup is bit salty (you can request lighter soup), but I love it. The place costs just over 1000yen so it might be a little more expensive than other places, but well worth it!

Ichiran Ramen is a renowned informal restaurant in Japan, particularly famous for its tonkotsu ramen made with pork bone broth. Established in 1960 in Fukuoka, it has become one of the country's most dedicated ramen establishments. The single-booth seating arrangement makes it popular among solo diners, although the barriers can be adjusted for couples and groups. Located near Jingu-mae station, Ichiran offers customizable options to create your own favorite ramen.
This place was cool. Order at the little kiosk when you walk in then go find a little table. Each table sits 1 person with privacy walls. Drinkable water on tap at each table. Easy spot to go eat by yourself or with one friend. And it was delicious!!!!

When there on a Monday around 9pm, still have a long line. Waited about 25mins and get seated. Order with the machine so it is easy. The ramen is delicious to me, but the price is a little higher compared to regular ramen, with a small portion size of noodles. So you will buy extra noodles. Still a good ramen overall.
Chia W — Google review
I had been meaning to visit Ichiran for awhile but put it off because I felt it was more about the experience and less going to have actual good ramen. So I went into it not expecting much. I woke up jet lagged at 4AM and it was one of the few spots near me that was open, which was great. I decided to give it a shot. The ordering process was very simple and the price was quite affordable. After ordering at the kiosk, I found myself a seat. The curtain opened soon after providing me my beer and an unpeeled egg. There were lots of instructions at my seat and even an option where you could make the indication that you are not familiar with the ordering process. So newcomers should feel comforted coming here. The ramen came out way better than I had anticipated and was actually good tonkotsu. I got extra onions which were a great touch. There is a water spout at each table which is nice. Definitely an all around enjoyable experience and I didn’t have to wait in line since it was the middle of the night (but still almost full seating).

Probably one of the best ramen places in Tokyo. Amazing taste, rich but balanced in flavours. A tip, don’t skip the spicy sauce, it is preparare by them with an elaborated recipe, you can choose how strong it should be according to your taste. We went in the evening, around 20:00 and there was about 20 minutes waiting time but totally worth it. Very recommended!

I stopped by for lunch here and it was great! It took 30-40 minutes to be seated even though I came in around 1pm. They had you take a ticket on which there is a qr code with your placement in the queue. You choose to get notifications either via Line, or email and then you go out an wait. When it's almost time for you, they send you a notification in which you use to come back and make your order at the machine. You take your ticket with you and wait in line and fill out a preference paperwork while waiting for the group ahead of you to finish eating and then you get seated. Once seated, I wasn't getting anything done or served and so I used the call bell to call for assistance and then the waiter took my ticket and took my preference paperwork and my meal was served in about 5 minutes. All in all, I'd say waiting to about 45 minutes to an hour to be seated and served. I was starving at that point and so I can honestly say I was done eating my meal in under 5 minutes 😅. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
Mawu N — Google review
I loved the ramen at this place; it's possibly one of the best value places in Tokyo. I ordered the classic ramen with pork and green onions, mild spice, medium noodle texture, medium dashi, garlic, and medium richness. The broth was incredibly flavorful. This dish cost me 1,080 yen and water is free. The only downside is that the place is small, and we had to wait in line for over an hour to sit down and eat. They don't take reservations and one of the most relevant features of the site is that you eat alone. I recommend it.

Had to visit Ichiran one more time before leaving Tokyo. This time, I tried a different location in Shinjuku—and it was just as good as the one I had yesterday. Another bowl of rich, flavorful ramen—left nothing behind, not even a drop of soup. Came at 8 AM for breakfast and walked right in with no wait. Perfect start to the day.

Fantastic ramen! I've never experienced a place like this, and thought it was very strange and odd for a westerner, but I ended up loving it. You basically have your own individual Booth, even if you are with family or friends. You were supposed to enjoy the ramen as an individual without distraction so there are dividers. You are served through little slide booths ahead of you. Very fun experience

Perfect Ramen Experience at ICHIRAN Shinjuku Kabukicho This was another experience of excellent ramen at ICHIRAN, but this time at the Shinjuku Kabukicho branch. It was a long queue, and we waited for over 30 minutes, but it was absolutely worth every moment! The unique ordering system (via the machine, filling out the detailed preference sheet to customize the dish, and the seating in the individual booth) makes the meal an experience in itself. The taste was simply amazing and met the high expectations. Highly recommended for every ramen lover!

As a first time visitor in Japan, I highly recommend trying their ramen. Dining here was a pleasant experience even if there was a queue which did not took long. Their ramen was good and just right for my personal preference. The good thing here is you can customize your ramen order based on your liking. Another recommendation is their matcha puding. It is a great way to end your meal after finishing a tasty ramen.

The noodles were so delicious and the best we’ve had so far in Tokyo!! We had to wait 40 minutes before we got seated but were given a ticket with a QR code which gave a count down on how long we’d have to wait so we could go elsewhere in the meantime. Food came really quickly when we were seated and the individual booths were very cool.

Hands down the best spot for ramen! 🍜 The flavor is incredible—absolutely to die for 🤤 The service is a 10/10, and even if there’s a line, it moves pretty quickly. The staff are super friendly and efficient, and as someone with anxiety who’s really shy, I love that I can just hand the cooks a paper to order without having to talk. Such a thoughtful setup—I love it!

Arrived at 10 AM for an early lunch. There was a short line, but I got my ramen booth within 10 minutes. This was a must-try for me—I’ve been enjoying the boxed version in the U.S. for years. I place your order through a vending machine by selecting the noodle portion and any extra toppings like green onions, chashu, wood ear mushrooms, and more. After paying, I receive a claim ticket. While waiting for my ramen booth, an attendant gives me a customization sheet where I can choose my preferred noodle texture, broth richness, spice level, and amount of garlic. The ramen came out exactly as ordered—delicious and full of flavor. Finished every single drop of soup. A memorable and satisfying experience!

It's like a ramen fast food joint. You get in line and when you get to the ticket machine, everything was in Japanese, no English. I had to use my phone to translate the entire menu on the kiosk and buy the ticket. Once you gotten the ticket, you stand in line and take your own cup of water and spoon while you wait for your seat. When the food arrives, it's like a race! Everyone is trying to finish their food as fast as possible and get out. Quality wise i think is really mediocre and not suitable for family or if you are a slow eater You feel the pressure to eat at lighting speed and leave... Overall it's an experience but I wouldn't return again..
Peter T — Google review
Ramen Jirou is an experience to say the least. First of all the customers are entirely locals and not a word of English can be heard from anyone including the staff. The signs are all in Japanese so if you intend to order knowingly, have an image translator handy. There are only like 3 choices anyway since they really only serve one dish. The food was ridiculously good and extremely filling. The portions are huge and I could not finish mine. The seats are tiny and space is exceptionally limited as there are only bar seats. But there are no napkins, they’ll kick you out if you eat too slowly, and everything is in Japanese; the atmosphere feels pressured and you have to eat as quickly as possible. The price however was fantastic for the sheer quantity and quality of food. It’s an authentic Japanese dining experience, and worth a visit if only for that.
Athanasios L — Google review
This place is for you if you like really fatty/oily salty ramen and bean sprouts. The chasu was so so, but the broth? It was too salty, I couldn’t finish it. Also, make sure you can slurp your bowl of ramen as fast as you can so that you don’t annoy the people waiting in line, haha 🙈

It's the worst place to eat the best ramen of your life. It was ridiculously tasty and cheap ,the pork the soup the ramen everything!!! But the place is not good. The staff are 3 men working very hard and if you take too long to eat your food they tell you to eat faster because there are many people waiting. I am a fat guy and I didn't have enough space to eat, maybe it's the worst table I have ever sat at in a restaurant 😅. Although you do have to taste it. The experience alone is worth it.
ΙΑΚΩΒΟΣ K — Google review
I recently visited a ramen spot in the Shinjuku area that left me quite underwhelmed. The restaurant was inexpensive, which initially seemed like a positive, but unfortunately, the quality of the ramen matched the price. The broth was incredibly bland, lacking any depth or richness that you would expect from a decent bowl of ramen. It felt more like hot water with a hint of seasoning, rather than the flavorful, savory base that should be the heart of any good ramen. The noodles were standard, but they didn’t make up for the lack of flavor in the broth. Toppings like the pork and soft-boiled egg were forgettable, and the egg’s yolk was far from the perfectly gooey texture you often hope for. Even though it was cheap, the meal felt disappointing rather than satisfying. While the location in Shinjuku makes it easily accessible for those wandering the area, I can’t say I’d recommend it to anyone seeking a fulfilling ramen experience. If you’re just after something quick and affordable with no expectation of taste, it might suffice, but for ramen lovers looking for rich flavor and quality, this place misses the mark.
Roger H — Google review
This is a unique yet shocking ramen experience in my world ramen tour. This is no place for tourists. You have been warned. You get to sit among real host boys. They are hungry and in a rush. Ramen is extremely cheap given its excessive portion. Heavy pork oil, thick noodle and enough bean sprouts to meet what your digestion system needs. You have to clean up after eating it. Eating slowly seems to be a disrespect to the people who are waiting in the line. They are in a rush to eat and go back to work. The pressure of finishing it quickly really shakes my core idea about Japan. It doesn’t taste too good. But It seems to keep the area vibrant and alive. This time, I will give only 3 stars just like what Japanese would do.

Ramen Manrai is a well-known ramen spot in the Shinjuku area, popular among locals for its exceptional shoyu-based ramen. Established over 50 years ago, this restaurant is famous for its hearty noodles and generous meat servings. The standard ramen comes with flavorful chashu pork, bamboo shoots, and fresh green vegetables. Visitors often find themselves queuing up before opening to savor the soft and tender chashu in a cozy bar seat setting.
The tsukemen and ramen here was simply amazing. The flavor, texture, aroma, and portion size was so perfect. We found this place through a food blog on YouTube and it does not disappoint. The eating counter was fully populated when we arrived and we were probably #10 in the queue. It went by fairly quickly and we were seated within half an hour. Very clean environment, friendly staff and you can tell by the product how much care and time they spend perfecting these recipes. We will definitely be coming back here in the future.

I knew of this place more than a dozen years ago.. and I still visit the establishment every time in Tokyo :) It's a shoyu based ramen, and I love the texture of the noodles. The tsukemen option is probably more popular when the weather is not too cold. Also, most of the customers are local folks.. many are single dinners, so the bar seating/ set up is perfect.

This is one of the thickest pork ramen’s you can have! Recommended by a local friend was a must try, and it did not disappoint! Honestly, never seen a thicker cut of pork served in a bowl of Ramen. If you like your proteins look no further. Usually Ramen Manrai gets packed quite quickly so you might have to wait, as the noodles they serve are a little bit thicker and spongy, so do come with an empty stomach. The Service is good, however, they were a little bit shortstaffed at the time I visited, so you can definitely tell they were a bit rushed.

This has the biggest Char-siu ramen in Shinjuku, the soy soup base was not too oily and they used the yellow noodle. The noodles were on the chewy side, and do order the "Char-siu Ramen"only if you're hungry, it's a big portion. The meat was huge n moist, not dry so it was great. There was no line when we arrived at 8pm Monday night. Buy from a vending machine, so cash only.

I visited the shop at 13:30 on Sunday. There were 10+ people in line. I waited for around 30 mins for a seat. I ordered regular size Chashu zaru(Roasted pork with dry noodles) It was super delicious. Roasted pork was juicy and the noodles were chewy. But that pleasant feeling for me didn't last long. The amount of noodles is 2.5 times more than the regular size ramen in other ramen shops. And with such limited variation, only pork and noodles, it made me feel bored and struggle to finish it at the end. I hope they can serve a smaller size for each of their ramen.

Best ramen so far during my stay in Japan! Quiet and fast! Much of the people are local, so no time to disturbing, only eating! I love this place!
Jonathan ( — Google review
Bumped into a line that was forming 10 minutes before opening and decided to try it out. Managed to get a seat as the first batch of bar seat customers. The chashu was soft, tender and a hearty serving. Noodles were springy and soup was light but flavorful. Very generous with their serving of noodles. Saw the other reviews talking about bad service but the staff today were nothing but professional. Vending machine for ordering is cash only. Prices are a bit steep compared to other ramen shops.

Shinjuku Golden Gai is a lively and popular district in Tokyo, known for its narrow and winding alleys filled with cozy taverns. This hidden gem offers a nostalgic atmosphere, reminiscent of Japan's post-war era, where small bars that can only accommodate a few patrons at a time provide an intimate setting for drinks with friends. While the area has gained popularity among international visitors, it still retains its local charm and may have some establishments with 'Locals Only' signs.
It’s a very atmospheric and enjoyable place to have a few drinks and chat with others. There are many bars — some great, some not so much — so it’s worth exploring a bit to find the right spot. Even if you don’t plan to go inside anywhere, it’s still worth visiting and walking around to soak in the vibe. Definitely a nighttime activity.
Tamas K — Google review
Came here during daytime to check out these one-of-a-kind famous narrow alleys lined with cozy tiny bars and restaurants. We picked one which had a cute Fatty Zoo Cat stuffed doll at door front. Lady staff was super friendly, we had a few drinks and really enjoyed the intimate atmosphere. It was not busy when we went but night scene would totally be different vibe. Worth a visit.
Cat H — Google review
Golden-Gai is such an iconic spot in Tokyo. I’ve been here so many times and always find a new little micro bar to try – it’s fun and full of atmosphere. Yes, there are a lot of tourists these days, but locals still come too. Most places have a service charge, which I think is totally fair. These are tiny bars run by individuals, and if we want places like this to survive, we should support them. It’s a special little corner of Tokyo that really deserves it.
Anne L — Google review
Plan to visit to experience the Golden Gai ? If you are a fan of tight spaces and pocket size bars, this is the place for you. Some bars even have a no-cover charge welcome signs to attract customers. There's a bar for everyone - American style, Asian style, Hard Rock Metal Heads, Laid back style, etc. etc. Walkable distance from Shinjuku Metro Station, this area is a part of the Tokyo night life. Pretty safe area this.
Satyen N — Google review
Everything is pretty full and you can expect to pay a cover charge for most spots. Was looking forward to doing a couple bars here, as I remember this from my last Tokyo trip, but ended up disappointed. Likely because I knew better this time. There are way better spots to find little bars or izakayas. Come here to check it out, but don’t think this is the best spot for little bars. We found a cool bar, met some locals and tourists, had some drinks with the bartender, etc. but we have done that and more/better in other areas. This review is not reflective of the bar we went to though, I left a separate review for that. Great time.
A&L — Google review
Golden Gai is in Shinjuku, a collection of tiny bars with small seating. Each is unique, according to the “master” or “mama” who runs it. This is a traditional for over half a century. They are more than just a place to drink and socialize. Many bars have a cover charge.
Doug H — Google review
We loved golden gai ans came back a few times during our stay in Tokyo! Such a cool area and there are apparently over 300 different bars. A lot have a cover charge or take cash only so make sure to check !

Mouko Tanmen Nakamoto is a renowned ramen shop in Japan, known for its signature spicy mouko tanmen. The menu offers various types of ramen, with the standard mouko tanmen being highly recommended. For those who love spicy food, the Hokkyoku Ramen and cold Hokkyoku Cold Ramen are must-tries. The restaurant also features seasonal menu items to explore.
Long line out the door but only waited about 15 minutes before seated. The host helped me select what turned out to be a perfect level of spicy ramen. Top-level service. Amazing mixture of tastes that just worked together and weren't drowned out by the spices. 880 yen for the meal.
Jeremy M — Google review
No English menu. They offer spicy ramen here but won’t taste anything like Ichiran. It’s not the salty type of soup. They offer different spicy levels. Staff was very friendly but there was a communication breakdown, there was no meat in our ramen, which was disappointing. Place looks to be popular with the locals. There was no queue when we came but a substantial line after we left the place.
Sagamihara — Google review
You order on a screen but there’s no English menu. The staff there was very friendly and helpful, the shacho even brought out a Burmese staff to help explain the menu to me. There was a long line inside to be seated after placing our order. The majority of the seats were counter type, they only have a few tables. The queue moved very quickly and we waited for about 15 minutes. The portion size was quite big, overall decent meal.
Moe — Google review
The guy running the show didn’t make us feel bad at all or a burden as English speaking tourists. The vending machine menu was in Japanese and he helped us understand it. Even in the midst of chaos he was patient. We forgot to order drinks at the vending machine and he kindly let us pay for them after. We appreciate this treatment a lot as tourists and were grateful.
Shreya G — Google review
The spice is real! I got a Level 5 "Mouko Tanmen" and felt nothing but spiciness. Nevertheless, the noodle was well-cooked and accompanying cabbages and tofu help reduce the heat. Other flavours might be of interest as well, as I've heard people adjusting the spiciness. Beware the lines! It's usually a long wait even for a shorter (5-6 people) line.
コイズミ — Google review
Very good place if you like very spicy noodles. I ate the lvl6 spicy noodles. Nose was running but I could have eaten even hotter. The scale is between 4-10.
Renny R — Google review
Hottest Spiciest Ramen in town!! This branch is in an obscure corner of Shinjuku with stairs leading down to the restaurant( basement). Tip- But don’t take the Super hot challenge cause the chilli powder wipes out the taste n aroma of delicious soup/broth. The average hot ramen should suffice, noddles are done well with some bite n not mushy but the delight is in the broth! It’s a great dish to have after a night out for drinks provided you can stomach it as eating it will get u all fired up literally- tongue will burn, sweat will flow but it’s delicious. Recommended for the brave of heart!
MeT — Google review
This is the best Ramen I had in Japan. Famous for being the hottest Ramen in Japan. Try the 五目 tanmen (6/10 on their hotness scale) if you want to try something very spicy but also very tasty or, if you are feeling brave, try their 10/10 tofu and see if you can live to tell the others about it!

Afuri Shinjuku Lumine offers a modern and casual dining experience, serving up unique ramen dishes. Their Seasonal Vegan Ramen features fresh, colorful vegetables and 100% vegetable-based broth with lotus root-blended noodles. The Yuzu Shio Ramen is a standout dish, known for its golden broth made from chicken and dashi base, combined with the subtle yet complex citrus flavor of yuzu.
The food tasted pretty good, and we were lucky — no queue when we arrived! Yuzu Ratan Ramen: Tasty, but not spicy at all. Yuzu Shio Ramen: Loved the refreshing yuzu broth! Pork Niku Gohan: The pork belly was really delicious.
Black C — Google review
Not a ramen expert by any means, but the depth of flavour here was superb. Went the full yuzu and had the signature yuzu shio ramen with thick noodles (not udon thick) accompanied by a yuzu beer, which had a sufficiently citrusy kick. Our family enjoyed the local style seating side by side. Glad we used this for one of our limited Tokyo meal opportunities!
Stephen S — Google review
The yuzu ramen was awesome! Definitely a must try. The other ramen dishes are not lacking as well, a delectable experience here no matter what you choose. The seats are quite limited, so do be mindful and finish your meal quickly if there are people waiting in line.
Ashley O — Google review
🌱vegan friendly/ foreigner friendly Food was banging- light broth, lots of veggies, smoky spice paste. There are also a range of condiments to add to your ramen is you wish to. Service was amazing. First, orders are made through a ordering machine which has an English setting for foreigners. Then you enter the ramen bar, you are seated and staff take your meal ticket. You are given a disposable bib so ur clothes stay clean and the service is impeccable. The atmosphere is an open bar concept with nice dim, evening lighting for that night time feel. The price is a bit steep, but it's worth it for this experience.
Meghana G — Google review
Afuri is one of those places I always come back to. I’ve probably been here 20 times, and after living a couple of years in Japan, it’s still one of my top ramen spots. They call their Yuzu Shio Ramen the specialty, but for me the real star is the Yuzu Shoyu Ramen. The broth has that same lightness as shio, but the shoyu adds richness and depth. The umami from the soy sauce balances perfectly with the citrus from the yuzu, honestly, I think it deserves to be their signature bowl. The noodles here are some of the best thin ramen noodles I’ve had, perfectly chewy with the right bite every single time. Small details also stand out, like the apron they provide so you don’t mess up your clothes while slurping. There’s usually a line sometimes 15 minutes, sometimes closer to 30 — but it moves quickly and is worth every minute of waiting. For me, Afuri is easily in my top three ramen shops in all of Japan, and the Yuzu Shoyu Ramen is a must-try if you want something light yet packed with flavor. They also have a few locations in the USA now, but honestly, nothing beats having it in Tokyo. Sharing my honest food experiences here — follow me for more real reviews on where to go (and where not to go).
Adarsh P — Google review
This ramen shop offers a light and easy-to-enjoy flavor — not too heavy or overly rich. The noodles are delicious, as is the pork. The broth isn’t overly salty or oily, so even non-Japanese customers can comfortably enjoy sipping it (since in some ramen shops, locals can drink the broth straight from the bowl, but for tourists, even using a spoon can be overwhelming 😅). The restaurant follows a counter-bar style. You order your meal from a vending machine, then take a seat and wait for the staff to serve your food. The place is clean, with beautiful lighting that adds to the pleasant atmosphere.
Vorapong P — Google review
We had heard good things about Afuri so we decided to check them out. The line was massive but we stuck it out and waited 30 minutes to sit and eat. When the ramen came out I was disappointed with the portions. The north is very light and felt a bit bland. I will say the visual aspect was top notch. It had incredible presentation.
Alexis B — Google review
Afuri never disappoints, but the tsukemen here is truly outstanding. The noodles were perfectly firm and springy, and the yuzu-infused dipping broth was bright, flavorful, and well-balanced. You get depth without heaviness — refreshing yet deeply satisfying. Portions were just right, and the presentation was on point. Definitely one of the best tsukemen experiences I’ve had in Tokyo.

Ginza Kagari (Main Store) is a popular ramen restaurant in Tokyo, recognized by the Michelin guide as a Bib Gourmand establishment. The shop offers innovative and creative ramen dishes, with its signature being the rich and creamy chicken broth Tori Paitan Ramen. This unique soup is made using a large amount of domestic chicken bones and meat to bring out its full flavor.
There were a bit of a que when we arrived, we waited about 30minutes. Que system was good and service amazing. The chicken broth was out of this world, LOTS of flavour. So if you are looking for a lighter broth this is not for you. Bento box with wagyu was also amazing, clean and good flavour all around. General service was really good and cozy atmosphere.
Filiph C — Google review
Literally so good. I got the regular chicken truffle and it was delicious - maybe the best ramen I’ve ever had. Come here if you are a big soup or truffle person. Presentation was beautiful and the additions of the vegetables on top gave some different textures and flavors to the super creamy/rich broth. Chicken was very soft and they had real truffle flakes in the dish. Noodles were not incredibly special in my opinion but still good. Jammy egg was perfect but also adds to the richness (it’s a very rich dish!) worth the price in my opinion.
Skye N — Google review
Really delicious soba. It was one od the most delicious food I had eaten in Japan. Simple, delicious and plain. They onlu make chicken. You pay and order first, then eat. Fast and smiling service. A very cozy and small food place.
Sibel A — Google review
Best ramen in Ginza area so far. This place is well worth a visit. Fair warning, it can be quite tricky to find, it's in a small alley between Sony-dori St and Namiki Dori St. It's easiest to find if you come from Kojunsha Dori St, where you can access it from a very small parking lot that has only a few parks spots and some bicycle parking. I got the Tsukemen, and my wife got the Shoyu Special ramen. Both were perfection. The Tsukemen broth is very light and flavorful, not overpowering or overly thick. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and did not stick together at all, which can be a problem with some Tsukemen. I only tried a few bites of the Shoyu, and they were divine. There will likely be a wait, but it moved very quickly and the staff was very helpful. Everything is extremely efficient to speed things along, but you also do not feel rushed. 10/10, highly recommend.
Dale D — Google review
Ginza Kagari is a **well-known ramen spot** in Ginza, famous for its creamy **Toripaitan Soba**. The restaurant is **very popular**, which means it’s often **crowded and busy**. The staff are **efficient and organized**, ensuring that the line moves quickly, but this also contributes to a sense of **rushed dining**. The **seating is not very comfortable**, with limited space that makes it feel more like a quick stop than a leisurely meal. The **food itself was okay, but not outstanding**—the broth is rich and flavorful, but overall it didn’t quite live up to the hype we expected from a Michelin-recognized ramen spot. While it’s **worth visiting once** to try their signature ramen, the combination of **crowds, small seating, and only decent food** makes it difficult to recommend for repeat visits. It’s a **decent experience for first-timers**, but not one that stands out as truly exceptional in Tokyo’s competitive ramen scene.
Asaad A — Google review
The best ramen we have tried during our trip to Japan. It has a rich but mild taste, great flavour. It is a chicken ramen. The broth has a unique texture. Also toppings are great. We went here even twice and afterwards visited their other place at the airport. Be ready to wait in a queue. We went around 14-15 o’clock and during work day. There was still a queue. Even the restaurant does not have many seats, the queue is moving fast.
Marie M — Google review
Half hour wait, but overall I think it's worth it. Stick to the first option in the menu, the portion is good. They serve ramen, not only soba despite the name. Premium pricing as ramen goes but I'd pay for the quality of noodles and broth. May want to add in the condiments provided with each bowl but may withhold the grated ginger (unless you are absolutely fine with it). There are 2 lines, first one for payment and then join the queue to enter the restaurant. Entry is by an alleyway.
Peter N — Google review
Great ramen with rich chicken broth. The restaurant however seemed to be over commercialized and managed by non-locals now which kinda lost its atmosphere. The queue was managed very well and only had to wait 30mins after arrival at 11:30 The toppings were slightly tough and dry especially the sous vide chicken.

One of their highly recommended menu items is the Tomato and Miso Ramen as well as the Miso Tsukemen.
Staff were polite and friendly, service very fast and ramen was delicious. Massive bowls that we couldn't finish with a creamy, rich miso broth. Lots of bean sprouts and tasty pork. I had the spicy ramen (medium) and my partner just had the normal miso ramen. The spicy was tasty and no spicier than I'd make at home (although a little saltier). 5 stars from us!

Amazing ramen spot!!! The food was super tasty and the portions very generous. We paid around €25 for 2 bowls of ramen, drinks, and gyoza – excellent value for money. We tried the spicy ramen, where you can choose between mild, medium, or very spicy. We went for the mild option, and it was perfectly flavorful with just the right amount of heat – absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere felt cozy and welcoming – perfect for a casual meal. Overall, 10/10 – highly recommend to anyone looking for great ramen at a fair price!

Really tasty Ramen. The kiosk is inside where you order your food and give them the ticket once you are seated. This is one of those places where you sit, eat and go as the seating is limited and can get busy. My group of 4 was able to sit all together but generally this is good for groups of 1 to 2 as seating is sporadic and fills quickly.

Got here as the place we wanted to go initially had a massive queue, no wait time here. The service was great, staff considerate of my fish allergy and welcoming, thank you for that. The spicy miso ramen was very rich in taste, however a bit too salty for me. The pork was perfect, wish I got the add on on top. When we got out with our bellies full of tasty food the others were still in queue. Do yourself a favour and try this place out, you will enjoy it and save time.

5 years ago me and my now husband found this ramen shop based off of a old Paulo from Tokyo video. 5 years ago we had the curry ramen, and it was the best ramen we ever had. It was so good we compared every other bowl of ramen to that one bowl 5 years ago. I am happy to say that coming back to Tokyo with my now husband and eating the spicy miso ramen was better than the last time. Thank you so much to the Misoya Hachiro team for making THE best ramen I’ve ever had. Their staff and service was incomparable. Next Japan trip this will be my first stop!

Very good ramen place. As good as any other famous ramen places I've been to. Thicker richer soup base which I prefer. We only found it because tasunoya around corner was tiny and had a long line, and kept walking wondering what to do. Glad we found this place. Mostly locals eating and should be able to get a seat right away if 1 or 2 people. If you want to good ramen and don't want big lines then definitely give it a go. Highly recommended.

Ramen Daishi is a popular ramen shop located in the Bunkyo-ku area of Tokyo, known for its compact venue and delicious soy sauce broth ramen. The shop has gained popularity among local office workers and ramen enthusiasts, even making it to the Tabelog top 100. Their old school Tokyo soy sauce ramen is simple yet attractive in flavor, often topped with wontons or slices of naruto fish cake.
There is a order machine at the entrance. Bar chairs, everyone sits quitely, minding their business. The two of us entering two evenings in a row, 15 minutes before the closing time. What we would call bolognese ramen un europe, and which I believe they simply called beef ramen, was otherworldy. Just rememberjng the ramen when writing this review makes me long for it. Service was relatively quick. Definitely would come back. Thank you for the meal.

The ramen arrived promptly, beautifully presented in a deep bowl. The soy sauce base was savory and robust, striking a harmonious balance between salty and umami flavors. It was neither overpowering nor too subtle, allowing each ingredient to shine through. The chashu pork was tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of fat to add richness to each bite. The noodles were cooked to perfection, offering a satisfying chewiness that paired well with the broth😍

I love the vending machine order culture in Japan. The menu and information are quite friendly to tourists. And we placed our order without any problem. A staff was also by thr counter to help us too. We ordered 1, 2, and 4 at a glance. The amount of meat and ramen is well balanced, and the taste is quite wholesome for a decent lunch after shopping along the Tokyo character street. Great overall.

My fav ramen restaurant in Tokyo station. Must visit place whenever I visit Tokyo. You get to taste the richness of the tonkotsu broth clinching to every strand of the noodles as you slurp them. The chashu is thin but flavorful as you sink your teeth into it. The ramen egg is a must! Highly recommended!
Wendy K — Google review
Amazingly, I’ve stumbled upon a ramen shop in Tokyo I don’t like. Noodles are ok, the thin straight kind. But the pork is subpar and broth despite getting the black garlic version is quite weak, lacking the flavor and depth of any good shop. There’s a good reason why this store has no line, whereas others on Ramen St. you have to queue. Skip this place, which is apparently now owned by the Setaga-ya brand? せたが屋 signs etc are posted inside; well, at least I know of other stores not worth a tourist visit, too. 😅

Personally not the hugest fan of really thick American tonkostu broths so we wanted to really try out what tonkostu broth in Japan was like. Oreshiki Jun in Tokyo Station was our first ramen here and it was so good. At 1200-1300¥, the broth was rich and creamy but not oily and over the top. The thin ramen noodles clung on to the soup so well and the char sui was lightly marinated so they complimented the soup so well (versus overpowering the soup and noodles). A great start to our Japan adventure. FYI this is cash only via ticket machine.

Forgot to take a pic of the screen but ordered the special shoyu ramen for 1300 I believe. Really nice looking and tasting bowl. Heavy black pepper (which I am typically ambivalent about) works really well with the soup. The meat was not the typical char siu. Looked like some of it was tripe actually. Super different but delicious bowl! Big portion too.

I got the shoyu ramen. Normally im a miso guy but they dont have it. Anyways, the noodles were cooked to perfection, the chashu had excellent taste and was plentiful, and the broth had such a clean taste to it. I wish it was open during my entire stay at the righa, but it closed for a holiday.

Ramen heaven. You have to wait a bit in line though on Fridays & Saturdays, when they serve their special Tsukemen.

Decent one. Noodle is pretty good and the broth is decently made. Though the pork is not seasoned to taste. The strange thing being that the pork under the refill noodle was well seasoned. Can't quite figure out why, maybe the pork for the salt ramen and soy sauce ramen were different and they just use the soy sauce ramen's pork as buffer to stop refill from sticking to the plate. Update Oct 3: looks like they've secured a new source of pork, tasty af

a popular ramen shop in waseda. every dinnertime on friday & saturday, they serve special/limited tsuke-mens (soup and noodles are separately served) with uniquely cooked fishes (every week, different fish), which are rarely used for ramens. many loyal customers queue up on those days. regular menu as well as seasonal menu are also tasty with full of flavors. unlike other ramen shops, selections of sake (served by the chef with omakase style) are quite impressive, too.

I'd be careful about coming here if you're a foreigner. The owner is quite hostile and racist if you don't follow his rules absolutely. I honestly thought he was going to start a fight with me just because I didn't finish the noodles (wasn't to my taste).

I don't speak or read japanese unfortunately , owner immediately comes over and helps me with the way to buy ramen. Provides a recommendation, welcomes me a seat next to everyone.the food was sooooo good, just home made noodles and broth. I highly recommend this place :)

Tsuta is a modern and sleek restaurant in Tokyo that may seem unassuming, but it's actually the world's first Japanese Michelin-starred ramen shop. Despite its small size, this nine-seater eatery draws long lines of eager customers willing to wait for hours just to savor a bowl of their renowned ramen. The restaurant has elevated this classic Japanese dish by using buckwheat noodles typically found in soba, giving their ramen a unique twist.
Hey there, this is GeniePam 🧞‍♀️ all the way from Mexico 🇲🇽 with my partner in crime from Germany 🇩🇪 now living in the UAE 🇦🇪 This was one of my favorite places in Tokyo, the ramen was exquisite - the side rice, with egg and wagyu will give you goosebumps on how delicious it is! 🤤 Just make sure you book a table in advance to secure your spot! We found this restaurant using Google maps. It is a small basement restaurant along a small road. The restaurant is very well decorated with carefully designed Red, White and Black colour combination theme. We have to make our orders from the Self-ordering Kiosk before the host comes over to usher us to our table. Our orders are very well presented when served. The food is delicious. The service is excellent.

Located in the basement of a residential neighborhood in Yoyogi-Uehara, reservations seemed unnecessary as I went at 2 PM on a weekday, there were at least 10 seats open. We ordered both the shio (salt) and shoyu (soy sauce) based broths at JPY 2000 each. A deluxe set with traditional ramen toppings like eggs and chashu can be ordered separately for JPY 4000. Other menu items include A5 wagyu rice bowls, truffle wontons, and kurobuta chasu (Black pig BBQ pork). Both soba bowls had an extremely delicate flavor, almost akin to a consommé, with clean and understated flavors. The figs at the end of the shoyu broth were a very nice addition, completing the dish with a light, dessert-like flavor. From a personal standpoint, I believe the ethos of ramen is as a layman's food that should be reasonably priced and satisfying enough to warrant repeat visits. This restaurant takes the opposite approach, at double the price of an average bowl, in an effort to elevate it to French haute cuisine. It does this by using premium ingredients such as A5 wagyu, Iberian Bellota belly, balsamic and truffle cream, and kurobuta (Japanese black pig). Perhaps I'm being pedantic, but I would recommend anyone to try it out and decide for themselves.

Nice restaurant, serving nice tasting ramen soba noodles. There was a strong flavour of truffle which is nice but potentially too much was used as it overpowered some other fantastic flavours. The atmosphere was a bit too stiff for my own liking but was generally pleasant. The service was very attentive.

I did a "ramen experience" here and it was one of the best highlights of my trip! The food was obviously outstanding, but to get to see the inner workings of the shop and learn the history and the work that goes into the ramen was incredible and really special. Highly recommend doing the experience, or even just coming here for a meal. You won't be disappointed. Service was impeccable also.

Decent soba here. I got the super combo for 4000 yen and a special side dish, ice cream, and bamboo shoots. The bamboo shoots were too peanut flavored; very different from the traditional shoots they put in since it’s extremely thin. The side dish was just half an egg with some meats. It looked extremely fancy but was confusing on its role. The soba overall was plentiful. Good portion size and great taste. It has to be fully mixed though. The ice cream was good vanilla. The balsamic didn’t work for me since it was so strong flavored; it felt like eating a salad. Was it worth 4000 yen? I think I would have enjoyed a local ramen shop a bit more. This felt more like a momofuku with truffle on top which made it difficult for me to score it higher.

Such a delicious food. We tried Special Osusume -A and was so yuuum. I wished we could have colder beer as outside was super hot. Rather than it was an amazing experience of ramen and Japanese food.

1 Michelin star ramen for <$20 US. Are you kidding me?! This one is the easiest to get a reservation for of the multiple Michelin star ramen joints in Japan - opens up the week before, pretty good amount seating. Ticketing system worked really well and you could go back to order more (we went on a Friday around 2PM, not sure if anyone could walk in) We were seated right in front of the bar watching the cooks prepared. The Ramen was artwork itself. Salted Ramen and soy based Ramen were both so good and the first Ramen we had in Japan. Broth was full and warm, ramen was slightly springy. The set is a beautiful accompaniment, but I would gladly just eat more Ramen - should have ordered 2 bowls for myself!

Restaurant
Ichijōryū Ganko Ramen is a cozy spot with counter seating, offering a concise menu of ramen featuring pork and seafood. Located near Yotsuya-sanchome Station, this hidden gem has been serving its signature intense salty and umami flavors since 1983. The original seafood ramen broth quickly gained popularity among locals. On Sundays, patrons can savor a special bowl showcasing delicacies such as anglerfish liver, shrimp, softshell turtles, and scallops.
First visit to Ichijōryū Ganko Rāmen[ 一条流がんこラーメン ] on Friday April 25, 2025. It made Tablelog’s Top 100 Ramen Restaurant list for 2024, so I wanted to give it a try. Arrived on a cool overcast Spring morning at 10:30am. I know this place is popular, so I was looking for a line of people and actually walked right by the entrance. I found the place- it has a brick facade and there is an orange colored rail on some stairs going to a second floor. The shop is street level and I saw the ticket vending machine outside the shop. Also saw the dog bone sign, bull skull, and beef bone hanging so I knew I was in the right place. But nobody was on line, which is kind of refreshing always having to wait. Today there was no special ramen, so they had their normal “100 Ramen” and their “Johin Ramen”, both of which were the same price of 1200 yen. I pressed the 1200 yen button, and also got a seasoned egg for 150 yen, Negi for 150 yen, and devil meat [ 悪魔肉 ] for 300 yen. I got my tickets and they called me into the shop to have a seat. They then asked which soup base I wanted (100 Ramen or Johin Ramen) and I told them Johin Ramen. They then asked if I wanted Shio (SALT) version or Shoyu (SOY SAUCE) version- I chose Shoyu (soy sauce) version. They then started making my ramen. NOTE- If you don’t know which soup base to try, they will let you smell each one to see which one you like better. I saw a couple people enter after me saying it is their first time there and saw this happen- so ask to smell them if you don’t know which one to order. 2 minutes after ordering, my ramen was served to me. Talk about fast service! Due to all the toppings in the bowl, had to push them aside to get a spoonful of the soup. It was piping hot, and SUPURB! It was a beautiful tasting soup, and the seafood and animal base were blended perfectly. I know a lot of people have voiced their opinions that it is too salty, but for me it was perfect! Don’t get me wrong, it is kinda salty but it’s not like you’re drinking sea water from the Dead Sea. That said I can understand how some of the locals here can find the salt/flavor overpowering. The 2 large slices of chashu were super tasty. They slice it fresh right before putting on your ramen, and they were super tender, moist, and flavorful. The “devil meat” was almost like shogayaki flavor and it was yummy as well. There was nothing remarkable about the aji-Tama (seasoned egg) -I found it kind of light in flavor but maybe because the soup was so overpowering, no way for even a seasoned egg to compete against that foe 😁 The noodles were the thin yellow type and it reminded me of some Chinese chow mien noodles which I love, so for me the noodles had enough flavor power to match the soup. Next time I will be ordering extra noodles for sure! Oh if you ask them for a MEMBER card, they’ll give you one. Then next time you go you will get 1 free topping. They have caramelized onions which looked absolutely divine, but apparently you cannot order (pay for) these fried onions- you need a membership card to get them. So next time I come I’ll be sure to get the. Thank you for a wonderful and super tasty meal!

Amazing little hole-in-the-wall looking shop with a bone hanging off a sign that also power red lights in a cow skull hanging above the door. Eight booths. There was about a dozen folks ahead of us in line but it moved quickly and we were got our three kids and us seated in about 15-20 min. Ticket vending machine offered the regular ramen in soy or miso (1100) or 1500 for the special (that day a clam broth). Very friendly staff was very understanding of our young American boys.

Definitely do some research on the menu before going. The little machine that displays what you can order is very non-descriptive. Your options: - ramen - special - special (but 100 yen more than the first) - special (but 100 yen more than the second) - special (...) ... - toppings list Ordering the regular ramen (1100 yen) gives you an option between Shio ramen and another soup broth (forgot the name) which was more dark in color (could've been shoyu). Other ramen might not have the option.

Delicious. As the chef claims it is a healthy bowl of ramen, I say the ingredients are natural and fresh. Unlike other low quality ramen, no after taste although some might say it's on the salty side. Old couple lovingly prepares your meal. What else can you ask for?

Taishio Soba Touka is a low-key ramen spot with just 8 seats, offering a unique dining experience. The chef runs the place alone, creating an intimate atmosphere. The sea bream soba was born out of an over-supply of fish during the pandemic and has become a standout dish. Visitors enjoyed the simplicity and lightness of the style, praising the thin noodles and flavorful broth. The chazuke set is highly recommended to complement the tai shio soup.
Pretty good soba, but take the cheaper soup one rather than the dip one, it's their signature dish, as well as being better tasting. Free flow of tea.

Our 1st meal in Japan and this really hits the spot 👌 It is winter and we were looking for food around 2:30pm and the aroma from the shop drew us in, the crowd levels here were lower during off peak hours but streams of locals come in and out quickly. It is a fuss free ramen bar to dine quickly while enjoying the exquisite execution of the noodles. They seem to specialise in fish ramen, which is a refreshing take! The noodles here lean towards a more alkaline flavour as well. 🍵 Iced Green Tea is complimentary. 🍜King of Fish Ramen & Sea Bream Chazuke Set (1450 yen) The comforting broth leans towards the shio salt style of ramen broth. The aroma of sea bream or any fish was not very pronounced, but it pairs very well wth the chewy alkaline noodles. I do smell a hint of Citrus, which is probably used in the broth to cut the fishy scent and create lightness. I did not see any fish pieces in mine but a slice of tender pork and fish cake. The Chazuke Set includes a small bowl of vinegared Japanese rice, sesame seeds & spring onions; accompanied by 3 slices of sea Bream sashimi in sesame sauce & crunchy charred rice as topping. The chef instructed us to pour the remaining soup from the Ramen into this rice as a palate meal cleanser. It was really refreshing and clean taste as well. Akin to a light bowl of soupy porridge. I rate: 4/5 🌟 🍜White Miso Sea Bream Ramen (1300) The broth here is thicker and creamier than the former, and the miso is rather pronounced but blends well with the soup. The fish is light and savoury on a tender pork slice. I rate: 4/5 🌟

Their Uni (Sea Urchin) Ramen (seasonal period only) was super yummy! I usually don’t finish all the broth for ramen because it gets too salty for me, but I finished every last drop of this bowl! Highly recommend!

I've started coming here after class and everytime i am blown away by how good the food is. The ambience is very nice and quiet. You order your food on a machine and hand the order ticket to the employees. You can sit wherever you'd like and they bring you your food/drinks. There is complementary water you can serve yourself. I only really leave reviews like this for places that I sincerely recommend. It's usually not crowded (at most there is 1 or 2 seats available) so there's always a seat for me to eat at: Keep in mind, I usually go between 12pm-3pm. If you want to eat udon in a nice, quiet, atmospheric restaurant, this is it!

The sea bream soba was created due to an over supply of the fish during the pandemic. I guess it is one thing to be thankful to the pandemic for. I had the seasonal snapper cold soba and it was out of this world! Texture on the soba was perfect and the snapper and chashu pork were a great pairing to the broth. We also had the tea rice and boiled dumplings, both were delicious! This is a tiny spot that we waited in line for on a weekday but the turnover is fast. Definitely give this place a try if you are in the area!

Really low key setting. Just a counter with 8 seats and run by chef alone when we visited, created very intimate atmosphere. He was wonderful - quiet and very concentrated but so skilled and took the time to explain how he felt we’d best enjoy our set including the ramen and sea bream chazuke. It was delicious. Really enjoyed the simplicity of this style which was light but not at all lacking in flavor or depth. Loved the thin noodles, we’re cooked just right. Truly lovely experience. Would recommend.

Super clean, flavourful and refreshing (has a couple of yuzu strips) broth! Noodles were cooked al dente. Charshiu is very tender. Don’t expect a heavy flavoured broth like the usual tonkotsu/miso based ones - if you want those, this place isn’t for you :) Small place, 8-seater, but turn around is fast as people eat and leave. Buy a ticket at the machine.

Small place. Came here because we were looking for a place close by the hotel. Amazing food! Soup was thin clear, but very flavorful. The flavor is just right. Chūka Soba Ginza Hachigo is a popular ramen spot in Tokyo, known for its unique take on the classic dish. Unlike other ramen joints, Chūka Soba Ginza Hachigo doesn't use tare in their broth seasoning, setting them apart from the rest. The restaurant offers timed and ticketed dining slots at a 6-seat counter, providing an intimate and exclusive experience for diners.
Michelin recommended and for a reason. I waited two hours because I was without reservation. So better book it. The calm, only 6 seats, the art of managing such a wonderful place. The softness of the meat, the broth, so wonderful. And the cook made a personal note to appreciate my two hours waiting. Memorable

The famous foie gras & truffle ravioli was very interesting and different. It's definitely a unique culinary experience you should try at least once. The ambiance is very cozy and clean. It felt very inviting and it smelled amazing as soon as you walk in. Everything was meticulously arranged like delicate art from the table settings to the ramen itself with ravioli, chashu, and perfectly soft boiled egg carefully placed within the bowl. With only 6 seats, closed on Mondays and sometime Tuesdays, there's a few things you need to know if you want to go. Check IG to ensure they are open when you want to go. Reservations open on Saturday at 9am for that upcoming week online at Table Check for a small service fee. I suggest you book an early slot because if they sell out of the ravioli, they sell out. If you can't get a reservation but have time to.spare, get there by 9am to line up outside before they open. Sometimes they will start food service at 10:30am (11am is the posted time). Once they've filled up the slots, they will put a sign out to say they aren't taking any more walk-ins. Each person has 30min to eat (took me only 20min). Please be mindful of those waiting outside and so the restaurant can stay on schedule with its reservations. They will take your order while you're outside and you go in to pay and then back in line until they are ready to seat you. This is a Michelin recommended restaurant for a reason (and used to have a Michelin star until Michelin removed all ramen restaurants from its list in 2024). You won't be disappointed. Not only is the food good, the chef and the hostess are so welcoming and friendly. Such wonderful and warm treatment made the experience that much better.

After trying for three years, I finally managed to secure a reservation at Ginza Hachigou, and it was well worth the wait. The restaurant offers an intimate dining experience with only six seats, where the chefs prepare and cook directly in front of you. This creates a warm and engaging atmosphere that perfectly complements the attention to detail in every aspect of the meal. The ramen broth was exceptional, rich, balanced, and deeply flavoursome, offering warmth and comfort with every bite. The use of a ravioli within the dish was truly unique and added a refined depth that elevated the overall experience. I would highly recommend.

I’m so happy we were able to get a reservation at Ginza Hachigou during our time in Tokyo. I had tried before we departed for our trip and the website crashed but was lucky enough to sneak us in for the second week we were there. Be prepared to move fast when you’re booking, it is seriously in high demand! We got the last spot at 3:30 on a Friday, unfortunately they were out of the famous ravioli but it honestly didn’t matter. Hands down the best ramen I will ever have in my life. It’s such an enjoyable experience watching the chefs prepare it fresh right in front of you. It’s an intimate 6 person seating, so you can really just sit back and enjoy a master at work in a peaceful setting. As I said the ramen itself is incredible, flavorful broth, delicious pork, and perfectly cooked noodles. I would eat 2 bowls if I had the option. We also got a side of their pork rice with horseradish and onion, and it was fantastic. Cannot recommend this place enough as a stop during your time in Tokyo, this was a highlight of our trip and I’m so glad we finished here on a high note.

Would I travel just to eat here again, YES.

Getting a spot: A reservation is practically required, which costs a fee of 500 yen. The reservation opens on Saturday so make sure you take that into consideration The place: If you can manage a reservation you are in for an amazing ramen experience. The restaurant is small but has a very clean an minimalistic vibe to it. The service is amazing and watching the master cooking in front of you is very interesting. There are only a hand full of seats which makes the experience feel exclusive. The food: I had the recommended ramen, which I would also recommend because of the absolutely amazing truffle ravioli. It costs 2200 yen, which is reasonable for the quality of food you are getting. Overall the food was great, I am not an expert by any means but I could taste the quality of the ingredients. I can say with confidence that it was the one of the best bowls of ramen I have ever had. Overall if you want a more exclusive ramen experience in Tokyo without spending too much money, it is 100% worth a visit.

Ramen Jirō Otakibashi-dōri is a popular spot in Tokyo known for its unique Jiro-style ramen, which has garnered a dedicated following of fans known as Jirorians. This particular style of ramen is distinct and some even argue that it's more than just ramen—it's a category of food on its own. The dish may not be visually appealing, but the taste surpasses expectations.
Thick noodles, delicious soft pork. Got the 1800yen option which was heaps & heaps of pork, couldn’t finish it. Standard 1000yen (top left corner of ticket machine) is probably fine
Lauren T — Google review
Massive portions (pictures were for the standard ramen and tsukamen). Some of the pork was a bit dry and the broth is a bit too salty. Noodles were perfect, but not the traditional ramen noodles you expect. Thick and chewy, really hit the spot on a cold winter night. It’s not English friendly so make friends in line so when the lady comes by, they can help translate. Remember to buy your tickets first before standing in line. There were no tourists when we went, just a ton of local lads (and lasses) with massive appetites.
Dickie — Google review
So yummy! I got the 1000 yen portion and I couldn’t finish all the noodles, massive portion! Really nice broth, pork was tender and flavourful. Also just a cool experience to watch them cook. Not English speaking, so make sure you go in and buy food ticket before you queue.

Salty, Heavy, Fatty. Perfect for those looking for Jiro-style ramen in Shinjuku. Don't mistake this place if you are looking for something light and smooth. This Jiro-style restaurant serves massive portions of noodles with heaps of bean sprouts, garlic and fatty pork. To order, you need to purchase a ticket at the vending machine and tell the lady how you would like your ramen. They don't speak English so use Google translate or bring a Japanese friend. You basically eat inside a very hot shack with hungry Japanese locals. Great experience for those with a big appetite!
Matt Y — Google review
Jiro is a famos Ramen chain. It is certainly unique, as a certain behavior is expected. You can get big bowls with super tender meat for a relatively low price. Large size means LARGE size here. The taste is very meaty, the bowl is kept simple. I personally loved the food, the interior could use a touch-up. Some tips: 1. Order inside at the machine, cash only. 2. Wait in line, a staff will ask you to choose the garlic amount shortly before entering 3. Go to your seat, enjoy the food 4. Wipe the table with the provided fresh rag 5. 御馳走様でした (Gochisou sama deshita) :)

This ramen shop review score is criminally low. Yes, the place's a bit rough around the edges. Yes, they're less English-friendly than other restaurants in Tokyo. But the food is BUSSIN. I mean, if you know anything about eating well all you need to know is these guys have a long queue outside their tiny restaurant every night. And if I managed to get served despite the language barrier, so can you. Just live a little will you?

I got a recommendation for this place by a local while I was drinking at a nearby bar. I stopped in right after, and my mind was blown. On my 2 week vacation in tokyo this is by far my favorite food I had. Everything about it was perfect. The pork was fatty and tender, the noodles were thick, and the broth was the perfect balance of salty and savory. I will be thinking about this bowl of ramen for a while.

Ramen Hōsenka is a popular and well-known counter-serve restaurant that specializes in Japanese ramen noodles and rice bowls. The restaurant's fish-based broth is a rare experience, and the meat topping is soft sous-vide cooked pork. The restaurant is located in Shinjuku district of Tokyo.
Rich, salty flavourful sea bream ramen. Choose between soy and salt flavours, lots of variations available. All the elements of the ramen were cooked to perfection and the portion size was generous! Fragrant broth, yummy slices of chashu, thick noodles and an incredible egg. I went on a Friday night and the queues are very telling. That was hands down the best bowl of ramen I have had. Thank you so much 😭 I got the special(¥1300) and it was absolutely amazing. This Ramen / Tsukemen restaurant is a lot different from others, in that the emphasis is not in your usual Pork based broth. This place specializes in Red Sea Bream based broth. I actually really enjoyed more than I thought I would. It's (obviously) got a fishy taste compared to other non-fish based broths, but it wasn't overly fishy and tasted great. My main complaints were that the broth was a tad bit salty, but more importantly the chashu was bland... Like REALLY bland. It tasted just like nearly pork slices without being cooked or seasoned, I'm not sure what the approach here was. That said, it was still really good and it's worth checking out.

Ramen soup is very good. Signs mentioned smt about red snapper being used and I can definitely taste a nice fishiness. They also put chunks of fish that was torched for an extra fire-y flavour. The egg was nice and moist on the inside as well. Very clean salt based soup.

Can’t go wrong with this one if you enjoy ramen with rich snapper broth , in particular in this area at such price. You can tell through the responses of each and every customers on their first mouth of the soup. Their facial expressions speak the truth. I just love to dig this sort of vibes and I’m sure this will gonna be a memorable experience.

This is one of the best ramen I have had , Tokyo ramen is much better than other places . 4.5 stars should not give 5 stars so easily ! People here gives 5 stars too easily and misleading !

Not your typical ramen, but give it a go and see if you like it or not. I do think it’s worth giving it a try. I like it. I wouldn’t say it will become my go to, but it’s perhaps my if it’s on the way and convenient spot, you dig? Tips for tourist: don’t just hop in the line. Go to the machine in the shop and place your order. Insert cash and then select what you want. Reference the numbers in the pictures with the buttons to order, grab your ticket and change, then get in the place where some bro-San will come grab your tickets and will shortly call you to your table. Cheers.

Ramen restaurant
Tokyo Dried Sardines Ramen Gyoku is a must-visit for ramen enthusiasts. Their signature broth is a blend of chicken and dried sardines, resulting in an intense umami flavor. The dish features succulent pork slices, soft-boiled egg, and bonito tuna flakes to enhance the anchovy taste. The house-made thin noodles perfectly complement the rich broth.
Nice, gorgeous and bold the flavor to this broth. The portions are very generous and so you better be hungry. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and well prepared. The noodles were nice and absorbed the flavor of the broth quite well

A reasonable option for ramen at Tokyo station if one loves the pork bone broth with rich flavour type of ramen. Purchase the ticket before queuing, a small ramen shop with local flavour. In my opinion the broth is a little too salty, though full of flavour. Not my choice of ramen amongst all other options available. Something to consider if one doesn't wish to wait in the queue for too long
Sebastian T — Google review
Great place for ramen at Tokyo station! You can find a mix of tourists and salarymen eating here. You buy a ticket for your meal and line up, so minimal to no Japanese is necessary. The machine to buy meal tickets had English below the Japanese on each button. The hostess will probably only ask for your meal ticket and party size. You can easily & comfortably sit and eat by yourself. There was one table in the corner that could squeeze five, but you can expect to wait a bit for larger groups. One of the main things about this ramen place is that the soup is anchovy-based. This does give their ramen a strong fish flavor. If you order the shoyu ramen (it will have the 中 kanji) the fish flavor is not as strong, and it’s a nice way to try new flavors. There are small baskets underneath tables for purses, bags, but nothing bigger than a standard backpack. The leg space might be a bit tight for taller people, and the store itself is a bit cramped. I had the shoyu ramen (中華), and it was great. Something to note is that if you order an egg with your ramen, it will be runny and not hard boiled.

We just arrived in Tokyo and decided to try this ramen shop we came across. We ordered a bowl of 特製濃厚とろりそば and 味玉中華そば. The broth is on the salty side, so I would recommend the clear broth for a more subtle flavor. However, the ramen was delicious, and the pork slices were quite large. Both the price and location are very reasonable.
Savan — Google review
I thought it was delicious, but the broth was just too salty for my taste. I tried finishing the whole bowl, but it was just very salty. Perhaps if they could adjust a bit of the saltiness, their ramen could be one of the best in the area. I had the Special rich Niboshi (Anchovy) ramen for 1250 Yen. The chasu was actually flavorful and soft!
Rhein B — Google review
Noodles taste great but the soy sauce soup was too salty. The pork also tasted great. While the lineup can be long, it moves quite quickly.
Joe C — Google review
Insanely flavorful and delicious ramen, not for the faint hearted. The aroma of pork fat, bonito and dried sardines in the broth is more like a gravy than a soup and coats the noodles perfectly. Portions of pork were very generous as well. Service was fast and polite. Highly recommended!
Christie T — Google review
Don't get me wrong, I love salty food... But, Gyoku's signature Tokusei Torori Ramen was way too RIDICULOUSLY, INSANELY, STUPENDOUSLY AND MIND-BLOWINGLY SALTY!!! 🤢🤢🤢 Although generous in portion when compared to the other Ramen offered at Ramen Street, and the bowl of Gyoku's signature Tokusei Torori Ramen on the mural looked enticingly delicious with all the sides, garnishes and condiments, it was near-impossible to eat, because of how incredibly salty it was! I could make at least 3 bowls of Ramen from just 1 bowl of Gyoku's signature Tokusei Torori Ramen's broth. Otherwise, the large thin slices of Chashu pork were tender and flavourful, the noodles al dente and good on the bite, and the soy-infused bamboo shoots were delicate and delicious. The sardine-enriched broth was intense and packed a punch. It could have been up there amongst one of the greatest, or the best Ramen offered at Ramen Street, if it was not that inedibly salty. Oh well, been here, done it.

IPPUDO is a renowned ramen restaurant chain with several locations in Tokyo. The Roppongi branch offers a simple yet authentic dining experience, featuring classic pork soup tonkatsu ramen made from boiling pork bones and skin to create a rich, cloudy broth. Another outlet at Tokyu Plaza Harajuku provides a convenient ordering system and comfortable seating options. Visitors can savor the signature Ippudo Karaka Men, a spicy miso-infused pork soup.
The gyoza was surprisingly really good. It kind of stole the show! They have a 20 gyoza offer, which seems like a good deal. Their ramen was okay. The “modern” ramen is greasy and fatty, but that’s part of the reason why it tastes good. Ippudo offers complimentary side dishes and we really liked the bean sprouts. Btw the highball was really strong, which is great.

Wow, the best ramen I ever tasted from a food court! Gpkuhakumaru and spicy karaka noodles were both delicious with very rich broth!

If you love ramen, this is a must-visit spot! Conveniently located right across the train station and at the entrance of Takeshita Street, the location couldn’t be better. The noodles are cooked perfectly—springy, flavorful, and absolutely satisfying. The ordering system is simple and efficient, and the staff are friendly and fun. The cozy, traditional Japanese atmosphere makes the experience even more enjoyable. You can help yourself to free side dishes, and the best part—no tipping is required. Highly recommended for all ramen lovers! 🍜✨

Everyone wants to line-up for Ichiran ramen. Ichiran is good but you often will have to que. Ippudo is similar in price to Icihiran, serves the tonkutsu ramen of varing types as well as other items. Rarely have to wait in line and there is sit across seating. There is a free condiment bar as well. The atmosphere is good with jazz music and attentive staff. The Harajuku location is located at the top of Takeshita street just in front of the Harajuku station, go down stairs.

Tempura Shinjuku Tsunahachi Souhonten is a historic tempura restaurant that has been serving delicious tempura since 1923. Located in an old-fashioned building near Shinjuku Station, it's the largest outlet of Tsunahachi and offers both table and counter seating. The atmosphere is traditional and cozy, perfect for enjoying a meal. The restaurant's original location maintains its old-school charm with battered wooden premises.
Simply the best tempura I have ever had. The batter is so light that it's actually translucent. The chef is an exceptional artist. The seasonal vegetables are sourced from a small family farm. Everything is of superior quality. Reservations required. It is part of the Tsunahachi chain but a thousand times better than the other stores.

Came across this authentic looking restaurant with no queue so we gave it a try. Tempura shrimp cooked from live shrimp right in front of us, with perfect light crispy batter, remarkable. Fried fish and stuffed mushrooms both delicious. I ordered two sashimi, portions were generous and tasted fresh with natural sweetness. Service was great, would recommend.

It was my first time to eat tempura shop in Japan. 10 of 10! Every piece of tempura which the chef will show you how to taste them with various seasoning. The texture was so incredible. Thank you so much, that was the best tempura I’ve ever had.

This place is the real deal. Classic Tokyo tempura-ya. Quality ingredients. Solid seasonal selection. Killer atmosphere. Lovely people. Multiple counters and dining areas. And all at a very fair price. Don’t miss out on a pre-tempura appetizer of sashimi. Their fish is always excellent.

Absolutely thrilled with the incredible satisfaction! The shrimp is truly phenomenal, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection.

Consistent and delicious. One of the oldest (102 years) establishment in Shinjuku area, their insistence on freshest ingredients sets them apart from ordinary touristy tempura places. Nostalgic old building with ancient artifacts. Counter seats are the best to see the food preparation if you are willing to wait. Only drawback was the feeling of being rushed as their service was hurried and the atmosphere is like a fast food joint.

Restaurant
Karashibi Miso Ramen Kikanbō Kanda Honten offers a full sensory experience with its intense, numbing spiciness and original miso formula. The walls are adorned with Japanese demon faces, setting the tone for the fiery dishes. Located in Akihabara, it's a popular choice among students for its delicious miso-based ramen. Despite the long lines and cash-only policy, the fresh ramen and flavorful pork belly make it worth the wait.
So this is the best ramen I’ve ever had in my life. Amazing experience, I have been looking for something similar back in the states with no success. The richness of the broth in the ramen was amazing, I literally want to travel back to Japan just to have this ramen. The service and place could be better. Maybe bigger and have a more a la carte service, but I understand it’s a Japanese thing. Cash only, and everyone that gets in the restaurant needs to order one ramen to be able to sit in, no sharing or accompanying someone. Place is small, and the experience feels a bit rushed. But is definitely worth it.
Isaac M — Google review
Great taste, most tender pork I’ve had and huge portions, one of my highest recommendations for a spicy ramen. The spices were on point and you can choose levels for both hot and cold spices separately. Beware of the long queue time during peak hours but it’ll be worth it!
Yathartha G — Google review
One of the best ramen places in Tokyo if you love spicy ramen! The broth is rich in flavor. You can customize the amount of spiciness/numbness for your own ramen. I would recommend medium level for both for a good balance of spice and broth flavors, but if you don’t like the numbing sensation then you should try at least light for that. I love the choice of thicker noodles and also the texture and taste of the their thick cut chashu - a perfect blend of fatty and lean meat. The soft boiled eggs are perfect too! Be sure to get there a bit earlier or during off hours as there might be a line.
Matthew C — Google review
I ordered the medium level spice just to be on the safe side and it wasn’t as spicy as I thought it was going to be. And I like spicy food. Also the soft boil egg was cold even though I gave it time to soak in the broth to warm up. Other than that the ramen was still good.
K — Google review
The miso ramen I had was super good. The noodles were chewy and great. The food arrived fast and yes, you can choose after ordering (at the machine) the spicy level and the numbness level. I chose the medium for the spicy and no numbness and it was quite spicy. What was tricky and confusing was the line to get into the restaurant. It was divided into 5 lines. One for ordering at the machine and the other 4 for waiting. It was split up (I guess) to not block anything but it took us quite some time to understand what to do. Also good to know, we arrived around 9pm and waited around an hour on a Saturday evening. Nonetheless, food really good!
Dana S — Google review
It’s less spicy than you think, so I’d recommend ordering one spice level up (i ordered medium spicy and it wasn’t that spicy). The line can be long, so I probably wouldn’t wait for more than 15 minutes for this. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is really cool though. You get to see the staff in action amidst some intense background music.
Hans H — Google review
The way this restaurant/shop is handling the queue outside is kinda weird/confusing, as of the time of this Review the line outside is splitted in 4 parts, there is no sheet of paper outside and the worker there doesn't really speak english. Apart from that - brillant Ramen, the broth is thick, rich in flavour, yet very easy to eat, the meat in the Ramen (not sure if it's called Kakuni here) was extremely tasty. I would rate it a 4.6. (visited on 08.10.2025)

Went here on a weekday night, the queue was super long and we waited for more than 30 mins. It was worth the wait as the ramen was super good and unlike any other ramen I have ever had. Super rich and flavourful broth and the chashu was amazing. They only accept cash so remember to bring cash.

Soranoiro is a popular ramen shop in Japan, with five branches in Tokyo and one in Nagoya. The main branch at Kojimachi, Tokyo, offers Vegan Veggie Ramen made without any animal ingredients. They also serve regular ramen and gluten-free options. The vegan ramen features a rich carrot/paprika broth and is topped with fresh seasonal vegetables.
One of the few good ramen stores in Tokyo that offer vegan options/halal. Because the shop is located near Hanzomon the prices are obviously a bit on the higher end but they offer distinct flavors that stand out from other stores in Japan. Had the tsukemen with upgraded noodles. The meat toppings have a subtle flavor and the broth had a nice kick. The noodles had an interesting texture (in a good way) and the flavor profiles were savory.
Yoon S — Google review
Excellent glutenfree Ramen. Felt super fresh and light, great natural flavors. You can add some protein in form of an egg or chicken. The standard gf Ramen they offer is vegan. Quick and friendly service. We would absolutely come back!
Lydia C — Google review
There's a very interesting story about me and this restaurant. I moved here almost one year ago, and as a gluten sensitive person, I was trying to find places, restaurants and cafes, that had GF options. Of course Soranoiro was one of the first reccomended restaurants, but because it's located in Hanzomon, an area where basically only salaryman gather, I never really had any reason to go, and I kept postponing, again and again, until I forgot. Flash forward to May, nine months later I'm working in Hanzomon, only for a short while, and I'm trying to find a restaurant who has at least one rice based meal option. Suddenly I notice that Soranoiro is just one minute away from my workplace! Life is really unexpected right? I wonder what is karma trying to tell me ahaha Anyway, the vegetarian ramen was great, and it's really easy to customise each order with gluten free noodles, I personally really reccomend Soranoiro to everyone, people that enjoy ramen and people that want to try new flavours such as vegetables ramen. The overall vibe is pretty chill too, and I really liked their background music. Just note it down that the only accept cashless payments~
Anna M — Google review
I thought I was ordering the veggie plate, and confirmed with the staff member who was assisting with placing orders at the machine. But, ended up being an Okinawan pork soba. The vegan ramen and chicken ramen looked good, so disappointed those weren’t available today, and that I ended up ordering something I don’t eat. Oh well.

The menu board helps navigate the Japanese options, with red indicating warm preparations and blue for cold ones. The place offers a variety of toppings and broth choices, making it a pick-and-mix experience. While the udon itself is relatively cheap, the portion sizes are generous.
Pretty good stop for Udon. I’m not an expert on Udon but these folks were making it fresh as we entered (literally cutting and rolling the flat sheets to noodles with the help of some machines). Lots of options for toppings and choice of broth or curry. It was like a pix and mix! Food was really good. I had udon with a curry sauce and a spring roll. Very reasonable cost. Lots of local folks eating at lunchtime. We were the only tourists. They accepted credit card. We all ate well and thought the noodles and overall experience was good. 👍🏼

Got here at 3:20 PM for a late lunch. The staff is nice and friendly, the food is beyond average. Even though I didn't order their signature udon, the Hayashi rice still satisfied my taste buds. You can have green onion for free. Card payment available.

I ordered the hashed beef curry — it was too salty for my liking, so I added chilli flakes to balance it out. I also tried a tempura squid leg out of curiosity, but it wasn’t for me. It was cold and lacked flavour. The ordering system is simple: tell them what you want, take a tray, add sides, and pay at the end. Having an English menu made it easier. The place could use a bit of a clean, but it’s convenient for a quick, casual meal.

The udon is relatively cheap with many variations to choose from. They have english friendly menu at the front entrance. The udon chef welcomes you at the front door. You must order first and walk towards the cashier. On the way to the cashier there are add ons like deep fried food and toppings which you can add to your udon bowl. I had the cold udon on a hot humid night. It was very refreshing. There were many seating for small to big groups. Felt like a great place to enjoy food by yourself or talk with new people. It was certainly a quick meal.

Ramenya Toy Box is a popular counter-serve restaurant located in the quiet neighborhood of Minowa. Despite its unassuming appearance, it has received high praise and recognition, including being recommended in Michelin's Bib Gourmand. The intimate dining experience with only 8 seats allows guests to witness the chef's mastery in preparing flavorful ramen centered around Aizu-bred chicken. Due to its popularity among locals, there may be a wait, so arriving early is advisable.
The ramen here is absolutely amazing! The soup was well balanced, fresh and chewy noodles, and the toppings gave a variety of flavors giving a different experience for each bite.

I loved their prime shio ramen it came with two pieces of chashu and two pieces of prime pork. They melted in my mouth. Also the noodles were just right. They were not the firm type but I liked it. It reminded me of traditional Taiwanese “oil noodles “. The soup flavor was just clear type which suited me very well. The staff would collect your ticket while still waiting. And I didn’t know so he graciously let me buy without having to wait from start. Only the sitting was a bit tight since I was sitting right at the corner.
Satsuki H — Google review
People can be very picky about ramen. Especially to famous ones. *Better check X for open time. The ramen style here is clear chicken soup. Noodles are not that hard. That makes it an easy start to who is new to ramen. I visit the shop once a while and noticed a bit of good change in the flavor. The cooking spirit of chief is admirable. For one not so familiar with how to eat ramen in Japan. ⬇️ You join the queue line outside the shop. Buy tickets as your order in turns after the person in front of you and come back to the same place in queue. Wait for staff to introduce which seat you can take. Once the ramen served, focus on eating. Don’t stop for phone or chatting with friends. Chatting while eating is ok, just don’t occupy the seat too long. People tend to finish ramen super fast. This is one of the best ramen, hope you enjoy it.

Their signature Abura Soba showcases the rich ramen tradition of Shinjuku.
So good!!! It was very busy while we were there. There are not a lot of seats (counter-style) but the wait was only a few minutes & worth it. Note: Cash only Staff very nice and assisted us with the ordering machine. The Spicy Miso had a “kick”. I liked it but it could be too hot for some. When in doubt order the regular & add your own spice. (available at each seat) Would definitely go back again.

I really enjoyed the experience, while my husband felt the pressure of Japanese slurping all the noodles in a matter of 7 min. They don’t let you take your time while ordering, and there are not many options, but that is a system, it is important to make people aware of this. The food was remarkable and, although the staff doesn’t ask you to leave you feel a bit of pressure from the people waiting in line for a quick meal. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it but the system might not be for everyone.

If you want a less touristy feel, go to this place. You order from the machine which was all in Japanese, a lovely worker there helped us. The noodles is a broth less type, thicker noodles and just a flavourful, the noodles had the perfect bounce. The sauce is at the bottom that you mix the noodles with and you can add chili oil or Vinegar on the side. Overall, love this type of ramen place if you want to try a new type of ramen!

I first tried this abura soba last year and I couldn’t forget the taste! I was determined to enjoy this as my first lunch in Tokyo for this trip and it didn’t disappoint me. Absolutely flavourful bowl of chewy noodles with spicy miso, and I added a runny egg and garlic chilli to my order. I also added the chilli oil, chilli paste and vinegar and all the flavours exploded in my mouth! Highly recommended restaurant! The staff was also very helpful and offered me the English menu and helped me to put in my order.

No regrets, NOODLES TASTED DELICIOUS. Didn’t expect it to have no broth. Tried both the spicy and non-spicy. We both felt the non-spicy tasted better. Non/spicy was able taste the highlights more The noodles were fresh and bouncy The seaweed and noodles was good flavour Very smooth and let’s call it silky texture. This place is all about the noodles.. the meat was not really relevant and there isn’t broth. Price was good… Yummy!

Thanks to a buddy who recommended this dish in general, this was one of my favorite meals during my Japan trip. Never had abura soba before, but I think about this dish fairly often. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the pork was so tender and full of flavor. I got the spicy version of this, and it did have a kick to it, though manageable if your tolerance for spicy food is medium at best. Like any other ramen shop, you pay with cash at a vending machine at the entrance, then there’s a small seating area where you wait until seats open up. If you come with a group, you might not end up sitting together unless you let others go ahead of you. But overall, highly recommend this especially if you’ve never had abura soba before.

Ramen restaurant
Located in the underground precinct at Tokyo Station, Tokyo Ramen Street is a famous strip of eight neighboring noodle shops. It's directly connected to the station and is home to seven well-known ramen stores, each offering a different genre of ramen every day of the week. The street not only features popular and classic menus from renowned restaurants but also exclusive menus. With its diverse offerings, it's considered a must-visit for any ramen enthusiast visiting Tokyo.
Come a bit earlier than noon, so you can beat the line. Food here is authentic and awesome. One day I tried Ox Tongue from Sendai and another I tried Ramen; they were so great!

Every time we are in Tokyo, we come here to eat 🍜 not that they are top of the world super but its convenient. Besides, they are actually 👍🏻 the noodle texture, the hot broth, the chasu nothing beats a 🍜 any day. There are many restaurants to choose from but mind you, during peak periods, do expect a long queue at every shop. But the queue wont take too long as most will immediately leave when finished with their meal i/o lingering on. Pay through the machine and wait in line for you to enter. The machines are now very modern and usually 🇬🇧 is available unlike many many years back where its more difficult then. Its more like looking at the picture and plonking the button and hope something nice come 🤪 Do come here to try if you are around Tokyo Station.

Feels like you are lost in somewhere, with the aroma of meat-broth in the air. Choose what your tummy wants. Any ramen shops there would not disappoint!!

I have tried two restaurants in Ramen Street, out of the 10 restaurants there. It's a must for ramen lovers. Depending on your preference, each restaurant is classified into strong broth to light broth, and thick ramen noodles to thin ramen noodles. So, it has something for every ramen lovers

This is why I love coming back to Asia for breakfast compared to the US. Ramen for breakfast is always encouraged. Got the fish/miso spicy pork ramen. The sauce contained a rich depth of fish and miso flavor, the pork was tender, and the sauce was semi-thick. Which helps to coat the noodle with flavor greatly. The best part was the noodle; thick and chewy. I’ve eaten three bowls with just the noodle and sauce alone. The sauce was a tad bit salty, but solid overall.

I love to eat ramen and there is plenty of ramen restaurant options here. Sadly, despite the plethora of restaurants, there's a dearth of vegetarian options. By the time I found one, Oragasoba Yaesu. I was pretty hangry and ordered the Tofu Ramen. The tofu was nice and sweet, while the soba had a fresh soba texture.
Chung H — Google review
I had an amazing ramen experience here. The ramen was chewy, the curry was thick and flavourful. The pork just melted in my mouth when I ate it.

Ramen restaurant
Restaurant
Ramen Shichisai is a cozy spot known for its soy-based ramen with handmade noodles. The restaurant's white brick facade and long lines of ramen enthusiasts waiting outside make it easy to spot. What sets this place apart is the process of pounding and shaping the noodles from dough right in front of customers, resulting in thick, chewy, and perfectly wavy noodles.
This ramen shop features fresh noodles because they are made, cut and boiled after an order is placed. You can always see artisans selling noodles. Buy a meal ticket from the ticket machine at the entrance. Cash and transportation IC cards are accepted for payment. ◎Kitakata Meat Soba The noodles are freshly made and freshly boiled, thick and frizzy, and have a wonderful texture and feel. The soup made from dried dried sardines is entwined with the frizzy noodles. There are two kinds of chashu pork: one is cooked at a low temperature and is rare, and the other is seasoned and tender.
44 G — Google review
A friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint. The noodles are expertly handmade in front of you. I had the dipping noodles, they came with a very flavourful fish based broth. I loved the thickness and texture of the noodles.
Cathy N — Google review
Great ramen shop with a bunch of variety and a vegan option aswell. The noodles were a highlight and were made freshly in front of our eyes.
Kathi L — Google review
This was THE BEST vegan ramens we had on our trip to Japan!! This is a MUST go for vegetarians or vegans!! For me, it was the perfect bowl! They make the noodles fresh right in front of you - from kneading the dough, to shaping and cutting the noodles and boiling it - the entire preparation process happens in front of you which is an amazing experience. It is counter seating so every one can watch is being made fresh. We got the vegan tantanmen which is the only vegan option on the menu. You choose between small, medium and large noodle portion sizes which are all the same price. We got medium but could have easily gone for small as the medium was definitely a big portion. The broth is an absolute flavor bomb! It is complex, and thick and creamy so you get the flavors with every bite of the noodles. The noodles feel so different than any other ramen place. You can really taste the freshness and the al dente chew in them. The noodles are thick, almost like fettuccine. You can walk in without any reservations. We came at 12:30 for lunch and there was about 15 mins wait.
Somya A — Google review
This is our first trip to Japan, Tokyo. We we're looking for vegetarian options. The tantan ramen here were the best we have ever tried. Handmade noodles right before your eyes, thick and rich broth, jammy eggs - we came back three times in total throughout our stay. Definitely recommend trying the tantan ramen here!
Sh3tb3rd — Google review
We decided to try this place because we wanted to explore somewhere new, and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. You can actually watch the chefs prepare the ramen right in front of you, even making the noodles fresh by hand. The ramen itself was incredible:rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The staff were warm and welcoming. It’s truly impressive how precise and dedicated the Japanese chefs are; every detail feels carefully crafted. This place definitely left us amazed and satisfied😌
Bea K — Google review
The most notable feature of the ramen here at Shichisaj is the hand-massaged, hand-cut thick noodles which are prepared only when your order is placed. The amorous, springy, and supple noodles go well with the thick niboshi soup here. The shop is spacious and clean, full of strong light, which is quite surprising given the traditional flavour of the ramen. The shop is also located close to the city center (Tokyo station).
Gaga B — Google review
excellent kitakata style ramen. there is nothing to complain about the quality of the amazing food, the handmade noodles, juicy chashu, beautifully cooked eggs, rich yet light soup, and the friendly staff. you can see the noodles being kneaded and cut right at the front of the store. one complain will be that it IS a very pricey bowl of ramen, easily ¥500 above what you get at other stores, but this is the price to pay to enjoy the deliciously chewy hand rolled and cut noodles, and is certainly worth a splurge if you can afford it

Ramen restaurant
Jimbōchō Kurosu is a small ramen shop that offers a variety of delicious and elegant bowls of ramen, including options with seafood such as oysters. The restaurant has garnered attention for its sizable portions and modern atmosphere. Despite concerns about the fishiness of the broth, it's actually chicken-based and quite light. Customers have praised the quality of the eggs but found the wontons to be less impressive.
What can I say but wow! Every component of this ramen was obviously thought out and executed perfectly. The soup was rich and not too salty, the chasu had the perfect texture and the noodles were nice and bouncy. Had to wait in line for about 30min because of how popular this place is. Thankfully the line was managed efficiently by the staff. The inside was small and intimate. It only had about 7 seats.
Shunji T — Google review
Not a ramen lover but my girlfriend took me to queue up for this place and it was completely worth it. Authentic place for ramen lovers! Got Michelin 2022 too! but prepare cash. These are of the few places that go with ticket ordering machine.
JL K — Google review
Amazing ramen! We waited for 45mins because there are only 5 seats but it was worth it! Salt based ramen with roasted pork was incredible!
Petros P — Google review
Amazing ramen place that can get very busy with the locals. Expect to be waiting outside for a bit before ordering and then again before getting seated. Staff is attentive and helpful. Fairly expensive, but definitely worth it for the experience.

Okonomiyaki restaurant
Restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Tokyo, Ushio has quickly become a beloved destination for ramen enthusiasts since its debut in 2012. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Nihon-ichi shoyu soba ramen, which features a rich broth crafted from premium Hokkaido kelp that elevates both the noodles and toppings to new heights. Beyond ramen, Ushio also serves delightful fluffy okonomiyaki that feels like biting into little clouds.
Cozy, homely and awesome food!! Come here every time I'm in Tokyo
Aishi L — Google review
Very fluffy okonomiyaki, like little clouds. Service was polite and very kind to me as a non-Japanese speaker. I think the topping could have been richer, but the seafood inside was yummy.
Edward A — Google review
The sauce is too sweet for my taste and the cabbage didn't taste good. But it has large pieces of seafood. There's a 500 yen charge per person for sitting down but you get a tiny appetizer. People can smoke here.
Amanda P — Google review
It was delicious okonomiyaki. The other dishes were also excellent! They gave all kinds of consideration to the vegetarian who dined with us. Thank you so much for your hospitality!
KIICHIRO K — Google review
Nice staff, but food overpriced, overhyped and underwhelming! 500 yen per person cover charge to have the privilege of just sitting there was an unwelcome surprise. Approx $55 USD for two beers and two pancakes 😐😐! Had better food in a night market! Wouldn't recommend unless you want to feel ripped off and bitterly disappointed!
John S — Google review
Saw good things online about this place, but was a little disappointed. On a Monday night, we were the only people there. Okonomiyake and yakisoba were alright, but I've had a lot better.
