Sushi restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Restaurant
Japango is a vibrant and modern Japanese restaurant located on Pearl Street in Boulder. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring Japanese tapas, sushi, and sashimi. Guests can enjoy the lively atmosphere with various seating options including a front bar, sushi bar, and lounge area. Japango boasts award-winning bartenders who create original cocktails and the largest selection of Japanese whiskeys in the area.
Our server, Juanita, was the sweetest and most attentive person. Her recommendations were spot on. Everything we ate was delicious. We had the Sakai roll and the Kitsune's Kiss (pictured). The Sakura Cherry Blossom tea was perfect.
Meagan R — Google review
It is perfectly fine. Happy hour all-day Mondays (although nothing happy about $8 well drinks.) I have been here a few times over the years. I do not think the quality and price match. The two of us recently spent over a hundred on happy hour for a few hand rolls, hamachi, two drinks, and some potstickers. Oh, and one oyster shot. We understand we aren’t necessarily filling up on small bites like this and are paying for speciality food, but I’ve paid less for more and better fish. The ‘specialty roll’ was the most underwhelming of all. Drinks are always yum.

I've visited this restaurant multiple times before for both lunch and dinner. I even left a review previously because the miso soup was too salty, but I'm glad to see that it seems to have improved now. My husband and I went for a late dinner tonight after working out. However, I believe this will be our last visit. We came out for a change of mood, but it only made us feel worse.🙁 There were several issues today: 1. When the water was poured into my glass, I found a hair. I understand this wasn't intentional, so I tried to overlook it. 2. However, I then found something like a hair in the tuna tempura. At this point, my confidence in your hygiene standards was significantly shaken. I didn't mention it to the server, but I was quite displeased. 3. My husband and I each ordered a main course, and both are supposed to come with miso soup. Yet, only my husband's soup was served. I waited, assuming it would come as part of the set, but it never did until I inquired. It was then served belatedly. 4. The main course rice bowl was placed directly on a plate that was already covered in sauce. Is it proper serving etiquette to place the rice bowl on a sauce-covered plate? 5. The rice itself was partially undercooked, with a mix of soft and hard grains. 6. After finishing our meal, when we tried to sign the bill, the pen didn't work. I feel like this is something that could be checked before bringing it to the customer. Overall, it was a very disappointing dining experience today. I hope to see improvements in your hygiene and service in the future.

The food and service were fantastic! Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to this establishment. We have visited multiple times and are always impressed. Shoutout to our server Matthew for giving us a memorable time! A great variety of food and drinks with a chill environment. I wish I remembered all the different names of the rolls we tried, but I know we had the Diablo, Himalayan, Asparagus, Cucumber, Loch Ness, and Sweet Potato rolls. We had the veggie tempura, Agedashi, house salad, and Miso soup for appetizers. For drinks we tried the plain green tea, Little Monster, Japanese Soda, and some Hot Sake. To finish it off we had a Dessert Bento box with some extra mochi. So delish! Our only complaint on the food was the salads. First off, u must mix the dressings! Second, the complaint, the salad is just lettuce!!! Put some tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, radish, ANYTHING, to freshen it up.
Chris K — Google review
The food was fresh, high quality and imaginative. A special shout out to our server Wyatt! He was so personable and called me by my first name from the open table reservation, when initially greeting us. Wyatt was especially attentive, and executed our gluten free request accurately. Most of all he offered me a very genuine and kind Birthday wish when serving us dessert so much so that it made my girlfriend tear up. There are so many great restaurants in Boulder, but in my opinion service is what sets them apart and Wyatt should be recognized for his hard work, effort and kindness. Thank you Japango for helping us celebrate this last Fish Friday of the Lent season and reeling in an awesome 40th Birthday Celebration.

We dined here for lunch. We ate inside because it was an unusually hot day in Boulder. It was beautifully decorated. The menu had great selections, and the food was delicious and artfully and creatively displayed. The edamame and lobster potsticker appetizers were delicious. My husband and daughter enjoyed their Miso Soup. I had the garden salad which was lovely with the citrus dressing. My Lochness Monster Roll was vegetarian and delicious. My daughter had avocado rolls, her favorite. My husband had the salmon bento box, which he enjoyed. Our server was pleasant, helpful, and efficient. A lovely dining experience. Glad we found it while walking down the street (hungry).

Our server was a young guy and he was super great. Staff clearly work together to make sure everybody is happy. Atmosphere is very pleasant, especially for a Monday night (quieter). All that was awesome, and the food IS very tasty. However, my partner and I both got mild cases of food poisoning after eating here. Japango was the only thing we ate that was the same this day, and we ate all the same foods. All was well and a few hours later it was very apparent that we got sick from something we ate - simultaneously. Luckily it wasn’t bad but it is the one and only time I have ever gotten sick from sushi in my life. I feel for the price point there are better places in Boulder that offer fresher and tastier options (TASUKI or AOI to name some favs). I actually really enjoyed my experience at Japango but getting sick was not fun and pretty surprising.
Anna — Google review
Stopped in for happy hour after work. Felt like I was being forced to buy a drink when I just don’t drink at all. The server noticeably changed his tune and took an even more sour note when he took our order including a “that’s it?”. Could hardly get him to come back to the table to order more rolls when we were actually ready for them. Foods good but I don’t care to have someone be passive aggressive when I’m eating a late lunch. I’d rather servers be paid a fair wage than have to upsell every customer on drinks to make a living. Doesnt make for a pleasant dining experience.

Sushi restaurant
Restaurant
Hapa Sushi Grill and Sake Bar is a modern sushi spot that offers a creative take on Japanese cuisine, featuring imaginatively named rolls. The restaurant incorporates traditional Japanese cooking fundamentals into their creations, such as the spicy tuna nachos and New Style Hapa Sashi. With dozens of rolls catering to both sushi novices and connoisseurs, as well as poke bowls, miso soup, edamame, and tempura, there's something for everyone.
Stopped by for an early dinner happy hour time. The food came out on time and was definitely delicious. We especially liked the appetizers and sushi. The Brownie dessert with ice cream was super fresh and delicious. We enjoyed our time sitting outdoors.

Our favorite sushi spot in town. The new space is very bright and airy, beautiful and modern design. Absolutely amazing food - creative, savory flavors, the freshest high quality ingredients. Great, attentive and friendly staff. We usually come here for brunch on weekends and there are always tables available for walking in.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hapa Sushi Grill and Sake Bar – Pearl Street Mall We stopped in for a date and found the perfect mix of atmosphere, creativity, and flavor. Sitting outside under the glow of string lights while storm clouds rolled in set such a cozy, romantic vibe. The food was as fun as it was delicious. We tried some of their signature rolls—“The Big Kahuna” (yellowtail, salmon, tuna, jalapeño, and yuzu miso) and the “Booty Call Roll” topped with lobster and garlic sake butter—which were both show-stoppers. The playful menu names kept us smiling, and the flavors didn’t disappoint. We also loved the Magic Mushrooms appetizer—avocado wrapped in salmon with sweet soy—and the Chukka Seaweed Salad for something light and refreshing. Drinks were another highlight: a chilled sake paired beautifully with a vibrant cocktail (the Curious Margarita with strawberry, jalapeño, and smoky togarashi salt rim). They balanced the meal perfectly. The service was warm, the presentation was gorgeous, and the whole evening felt like an experience rather than just dinner. 💬 In short: creative rolls, great drinks, and an ambiance that makes even a rainy evening unforgettable. We’ll definitely be back.

My family tried this restaurant a while back without me and told me about their wonderful experiences and mentioned that they wanted me to try it. Being from Hawaii, I naturally thought the name of the restaurant was intriguing; not to mention, the term, "Hapa" has a special meaning to me. I was recently in Boulder so my daughter and I visited this restaurant on 3 Aug 2025. We arrived a little later than the normal dinner window so the restaurant wasn't busy at all which was perfect because I didn't feel like waiting for a table - yes, we were starving. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and escorted to our table. After we sat down, we were provided with one of the best service a customer can have...courtesy of Savannah - she was extremely professional, attentive, friendly, and very efficient. All quality traits that every restaurant employee should emulate. In fact, prior to ordering our food, I looked at one of the dishes that were brought to our table and unfortunately, when I lifted one of the plates, it was dirty (see attached photo). I brought this to Savannah's attention and she immediately resolved the issue, following it with an apology. Though, I would hope in the future the kitchen staff would quality check their items before they make them available for servers to bring to the tables. Regardless, things happen and it was resolved. We ordered Miso Soup, Ginger Pork Gyoza, Vegetable Tempura, and Taro (Tuna) Poke for our appetizers; Hapa Roll, Statue of Liberty (SOL) Roll, and Beef Teriyaki Dinner for our main entrées; and Da Kine Punch and Hapa Draft for our drinks. The appetizers were good; the miso soup and tempura definitely stole the show for the appetizer round. The gyoza was good; however, I was shocked with how it was prepared...it didn't have as much crisp to it as you would get at a Japanese restaurant. The texture almost reminded me of a Chinese-style (pan seared) dumpling...but it was still pretty good; just not what I was hoping for. The SOL Roll was outstanding; I'm mainly an ahi tuna guy so I was taken back at how refreshing (and crisp) that roll was - that apple provided a whole new level to that roll. The Hapa Roll was ok; for some reason, the tuna didn't taste like it should have (I found it strange considering the Taro Poke was great). I know land-locked states are limited to how fresh a fish can be, but this one didn't taste fresh at all. I have never received bad ahi when I was in Hawaii (of course), and in Las Vegas (where I currently reside). I still finished it and it never made me sick afterwards so perhaps it was just my tastebuds? Also, the Beef Teriyaki was adequate; nothing to write home to Mom about...but it wasn't bad either. The restaurant was clean with very nice décor and a respectable amount of space; both interior and exterior. The restaurant's logo was fascinating which makes me wonder of the history behind picking that logo/character. The price-to-quantity/quality ratio was reasonable and I highly respect this business for their continued support to the active men and women of the Armed Forces, including its Veterans - thank you for that! Overall, I liked my experience here, as depicted in my 4-star rating. I can definitely see myself returning for another visit whenever I'm in the city again. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Dallas M — Google review
Popular spot and it can get busy, but really nice atmosphere. Some rolls were super tasty, others more average, and desserts looked beautiful but could use a little extra care (the crème brûlée was served cold). Overall, I had a good time, though I’m not sure the quality matches the price enough for me to come back often.
Giulia — Google review
We had a wonderful birthday meal! The multiple ______ roll is delicious. All of the food is fresh and beautifully prepared. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive to every detail of our meal.
Shelly R — Google review
Amazing bar service. The mock cocktail was great and beer ok. Vegan. Sushi spot on! Wait time 15 Minutes while serving a great seaweed salad.
The G — Google review
Never again. Not only was service absolutely horrible from the second we walked in (we had reservations and it took 20 minutes just to get anybody to talk to us and to order water), but it never improved, and then we found this huge plastic tip in our dessert. Granted it was already comped because it was a birthday dessert, but they didn't even seem surprised and give us a few bucks off of our very expensive meals. I guess that's what snobby Boulder places can get away with.

Chinese noodle restaurant
Dan Dan noodle restaurant
Zoe Ma Ma is a popular soup shop known for its homemade noodles, dim sum, and daily specials. The colorful eatery offers a variety of tasty Chinese street food bites such as pork belly bao buns and pan-fried potstickers. The owner's dedication to using superior ingredients and authentic recipes has earned the restaurant recognition, including a nomination in the James Beard Awards. This cozy Colorado eatery was opened by a son who wanted to share his mother's homemade recipes with the world.
Tasty food at a reasonable price in downtown Boulder. The chicken noodle soup is my all-time favorite. I also appreciate the built-in service fee, which removes the pressure of tipping decisions and makes the dining experience smoother and more convenient.
Lusi Y — Google review
Zoe Ma Ma is a great spot for a flavorful and satisfying meal. We tried the Dan Dan noodles and the pork belly with rice, and both dishes were packed with great flavor. The noodles had just the right amount of spice and richness, while the pork belly was tender and paired perfectly with the rice. Portions were generous, and everything felt fresh and well-prepared. It’s the kind of place that hits the spot when you’re craving something hearty and comforting.
Stephen D — Google review
My husband and I shared: - Dan Dan Main - Cold Sesame Noodles - Pork Belly Bao - Roast Duck Bao - Pearl Meatball - Ma Ma's Potstickers - Vegan Dumplings - Goji Berry & Raisin Rice Cake I found this spot to be a little inconsistent. I absolutely loved the Goji Berry & Raisin Rice Cake, Pearl Meatball, both baos, and the potstickers. These could complete with the best Asian food I've had anywhere. The bigger dishes were a little disappointing to me. They weren't bad, but they weren't nearly as good as the smaller plates for me. I'd still happily come back to try the rest of the menu.
Jacqueline T — Google review
I tried Zoe Ma Ma in Boulder and ordered the chicken pho it was pretty good! The broth on its own was okay, but the toppings and seasonings you can add yourself really made it better. I also got the dumplings, but they weren’t as good as I was expecting. The service was okay, though it took quite a while for my order to be ready. Just a heads-up when you come in, you order at the counter, pick your own seat, and they’ll call your name when your food is ready. Overall, not bad for a casual spot, but a few things could’ve been better.
Jackie B — Google review
Tasty food at a reasonable price right on Pearl. I love the menu's simplicity which is based on the owner's mom's signature Taiwanese recipes. I also love that it's served on simple plates. It lets the food speak for itself. Super yummy. We ordered the Stir-fry Garlic Choy Sum and added chicken to it and the Pork Belly Bao and Roast Duck Bao. It wasn't too busy when we went, but I could see it getting crowded.
Tierney K — Google review
I ordered the Dan Dan Mian which was good. The forced 15% tip was very disappointing since you order like a fast food place here. Counter order and they don’t even bring your food or silverware to your table.
Alec G — Google review
Wow! What a unique take on the traditional Chinese food! There's no sweet and sour chicken here! I had no idea about Chinese curry and many of the other delicious items on the menu. We also loved that they don't charge extra for tips like most places do now. The service was great, the place was clean, and the food was delicious.
CSS — Google review
We got the duck wonton soup, the Lu Ro Fan, and the pot stickers. The wonton soup broth was not as salty/umami as I would have liked, but the duck was tender and the wontons were yummy. The rice dish was tasty. We both were unimpressed with the potstickers. The service was very nice and informative on recommendations. The interior is also very nice.

Sushi Zanmai is a popular spot known for its wide variety of sushi, special rolls, and classic Japanese dishes. The menu offers everything from udon noodles to grilled teriyaki meats like yakiniku and yakitori. Appetizers include a dumpling platter, gyoza, seasoned edamame, and ebi shumai.
This place offers some exotic Nigiri options that we haven't tried before. We like that most of their rolls don't use imitation crab and fancy sauces to over compensate for the imitation filling. I chose this place because I wanted the fan fair of a sushi boat. If your order is large enough, they'll fulfill the request. We went on a Sunday night, and the place was full, but not loud. They've got a couple of really cute seating options depending on the size of your party. We'll still explore the other sushi restaurants in town, but this one has so far been the best sushi we've had in Colorado.

We told them we are not that hungry and got 2 small appetisers that they recommended with the dessert and 1 cocktail. Food beautiful, people cool, atmosphere nice. We payed 125$ after tip, not gonna lie i was little surprised but its okay.

I don’t know why this place isn’t more popular! The fish is so fresh, the best sushi in Boulder. If you have a large group you can sit in one of the tea rooms and it’s like a private dining experience!

The server was very kind and fun, and the food was very good! I loved the variety of options, especially the special seared tuna with jalapeño roll which I've never had before. There's also good non sushi options. And cocktails.

Went for dinner at 645. The wait service was decent. Sat at a table for 4. Sushi is fantastic and so fresh!! So, we went back again for lunch the next day! Sat at the bar and watch the chef prepare the sushi for us and others. Amazing technique, such a pleasure to watch. The staff is so appreciative of us coming for dinner and for lunch!

Best sushi in Boulder! We go to Denver for the sushi (Mizu, sushi den) and this place was right on par with our favorite Denver go-to’s. The atmosphere was decent, the menu had a lot of variety. But most importantly, the fish was fresh and most of it melts in your mouth. We can’t wait to go back!
Emily K — Google review
Tried the Nabeyaki Udon which was a little overcooked with a hard egg. The prawn tempura tasted a bit lifeless. The Hibachi beef and scallop had nicely seared scallop but beef was chewy. House wine was ok. Very fun lively vibes and great decor. Loved the aquarium. Overall just passable food but more than compensated by energies the restaurant was able to commandeer.

Restaurant
Basta is a renowned Italian-inspired restaurant located near Colorado University-Boulder's East Campus. The eatery offers a creative, market-driven menu featuring artisanal pizzas, including unique options like the Cart-Driver with sausage, kale, chili and fennel pollen. Basta prides itself on its commitment to culinary exploration by modifying pizza dough and ingredients based on seasonal changes.
A lovely intimate dining experience! On a solo business trip so I sat at the bar, and my bartender Avery was great at making beverage and food recommendations! I loved having a direct view of the wood fire oven - very cool!! The pizza is SO GOOD you cannot pass it up when you visit. And if you love ice cream… get them all. I loved the bay leaf but I regret not getting the smokey vanilla!

Great food fantastic service. We had the Cesar salad you can tell the dressing is home made with the perfect acidity and pistachos it’s perfect. We also had the Roberto pizza delicious and the lamb I loved red and juicy inside crispy out side it was perfection.
Melanie A — Google review
Fine experience. The location is easy to access and offers indoor and patio seating. There is a rotating menu with small bites, large plates and pizzas. We opted for the burrata and focaccia to start. Admittedly, we did not need that much bread but both options were delicious. The wood fired pizzas are light and crispy in the center with a fluffy crust. The rest of the menu did not jump out at us - the mains and sides seem to be plain items you can get anywhere. Definitely plan to make a reservation for the weekend. Plenty of parking available. 22% gratuity applied to all bills which I will continue to disagree with.
Liv R — Google review
We’d driven into Boulder earlier that day and spent the afternoon wandering around downtown—cold, hungry, and killing time while waiting for our 5:15 reservation at Basta. It was the only slot we could get. Everything else was booked solid. Clearly, the people of Boulder already knew something we were just about to learn. Dinner kicked off with oysters. Cold, clean, perfect. Then the clam pizza showed up. Full on religious experience. Focaccia was thick, warm, blessed. Trout was perfectly cooked. The sunchokes and morel mushrooms? Fine. They showed up, did their job, but definitely took a back seat to the headliners. A little pricey, a little shy. I had a non-alcoholic beer that was somehow “beautiful”—don’t ask, it just was—and my girlfriend had a glass of red wine that paired perfectly with everything. The wine basically held our hands through the entire meal. The staff—all dressed in black—were attentive, kind, and moved like a well-rehearsed dance troupe that also happens to bring you oysters. Yes, the vibe was a little cult-ish. But like, the kind of cult you want to join. The kind with focaccia. The atmosphere was minimalist-industrial-meets-cozy. Concrete and wood, clean lines, soft light. Even the bathrooms had music, which was an unexpected and appreciated flex. I ended the meal with a solid espresso. Strong finish to a strong meal. Bottom line: If you’re anywhere near Boulder and don’t go to Basta, you are actively denying yourself happiness. Make the reservation. Bundle up. Order the clam pizza. Then thank whatever higher power led you there.
Gonzalo A — Google review
Overall, this was one of the best dining experiences my wife and I have had in a long time. Our server, Evan, was a true master of his craft and walked us through some items on the menu that were really unique. The restaurant itself is the perfect size, big enough to feel spacious, but small enough to feel cozy. The cocktails are top-knotch and the pizzas were some of the best we've had anywhere. A modern take on a classic Italian pizza, the wood-fired crust and the dough really made it special. For desert we tried two ice creams that were recommended by our server and the wood-smoked ice cream was something I never knew I needed. So amazing. Can't say enough good things about Basta. Thank you for being what we always hoped a restaurant could be; focused on the health and welfare of their employees, the quality of its ingredients, the focus on sustainability, and the uniqueness of its food. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary and we will be back for future celebrations.

Huge fan of the bread! We had an excellent “second dinner” of mousse, sourdough, and chocolate dessert and it was absolutely delightful. The cocktails are also unique and tasty. Previously visited and enjoyed the lasagne and pizza. Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes and cocktails! Also appreciated being able to get a walk in bat seat.

Came for a date night. WOW. Small place but good drinks… handcrafted us a specialty cocktail based on our tastes. Had the Branzino and it was certainly good… we shared it. All in all spent 100+ each but it was a magical evening. I’ll be back.

Second adventure: similar reflection. Worth returning. Piada is so good! first time and a good time, I will return for another adventure the ambiance is cozy and intimate and is well matched by attentive service in line with expectations. the menu was focused, relevant and interesting. It was perhaps a bit more ingredient forward than my little pallette is tuned for. a touch of salt and pepper on the table and turning everything flavor oriented up just a bit, would be welcome. the opt out 22% tip feels like a removal of power. yes please to fair wages, but also yes please to maintaining my autonomy without a staff facing opt out. for a 500 dollar meal, I want just a touch more flavor combined with feeling empowered to opt in to social norms and performance driven tip culture, rather than out. cocktails: inspired combinations! wine offerings: numerous and in line with cuisine offerings smoked olives: firm and fantastic castelvetranos. the smoke was a nice touch, but surface level. you loose the butter of the castelvetranos, but the smoke is still nice enough burrata: excellent, delicate, and balanced. chicken liver mousse:perfect texture, but a flavor a bit too mild baby lettuce: a lovely and balanced salad.yes please! Ceasars salad: excellent dressing, but a touch too much dressing fish for two: nice crispy skin, reasonable potato bed, slightly overcooked flesh caccio e pepe: not actually caccio e pepe. al dente fantastic pasta, over salted and thin / broken sauce smoked vanilla ice cream. very nice flavor, but a bit thin. A little more fat would balance nicely against the smoke. chevre?

Izakaya Amu is a charming Japanese pub in Boulder that offers an authentic Izakaya-style dining experience. The restaurant specializes in traditional Japanese small plates, yakitori, and premium sushi meant to be shared over drinks. With its warm wooden interiors and friendly staff, Izakaya Amu captures the true essence of Japanese pub culture, providing an intimate and authentic atmosphere for guests. Additionally, the restaurant features a selection of premium sake to complement the exquisite dishes.
Lots of dishes that can't be found in other Japanese restaurants. We tried several and they were all great. It took a while for the food to come out though. But it was worth the wait.

Disappointing experience. We arrived and the hostess/server asked us “how she could help us”, which set a bad tone from the start. She was otherwise friendly, but delivered a wrong item to our table. When we mentioned it, she laughed it off and kept it on our bill (we did eat it, to be fair). All of this could be easily overlooked but unfortunately, the food just wasn’t good. We have eaten at hundreds of Japanese restaurants - including many izakaya - all over North America and Japan, and I’m not sure how this place gets the good reviews it does. We all agreed there wasn’t a single thing that was “good” and a few items that weren’t good at all. We left and had dinner elsewhere. We won’t be back.

This place is an institution in town. It's well known, and the sushi bar side has a great happy hour on sundays. I'm glad this place exists and it scratches an itch, but I wouldn't call it exceptional. I very much enjoyed you unagi and the sashimi plate was good. Most of the other dishes were just okay

Food was alright, I’ve had better suishi in boulder tbh. Just go next door if you want suishi. I think this is more of a place you go if you want more of a spread of Japanese food. Service however was incredible!!! Jessica is a GOAT! Great suggestions very happy with the service!

Absolutely beautiful little sushi spot with absolutely terrible sashimi and otherwise terribly overpriced food. I went here with my friends last night and we ordered the thin pork and ginger sauce, flying fish and trout sashimi and the stuffed garlic mozzarella mushrooms.. The sashimi was inedible.... Scales, fishy, mushy, and seemingly rendered from the fish with a hammer... The pork and mushrooms were decent albeit pretty overpriced as was the cocktail at 18 dollars. ....

Bottom line: Amazingly Unique and delicious food - highly recommend going Omakase. First time in Boulder and I was looking for a solid place for dinner, which is tough when there's so many to choose from. I ended up reading other reviews on this place and decided to give it a chance. Having read the reviews, I expected to wait and/or not be able to get a seat at all. I lucked out and got a seat right away. The server, Adrian, was absolutely fantastic. After talking with him for a bit and reading the menu, I decided to go Omakase style and let him choose the dishes. Adrian's menu expertise paid off and he chose dishes that fit my tastes but also borderlined on things that I would never have ordered. This place has amazing food and is not your typical Americanized "Japanese" food, very little sushi. That alone was worth five stars but the service on top of that was worth another star if I could give it.

Went back here in 2023 and it was a pretty decent sushi restaurant. Came back today and was really underwhelmed with the food. Hamachi collar was overcooked, and the king salmon nigiri was mushy and flavorless. If you're looking for good Japanese food in Boulder, go to Osakas instead.

I love the atmosphere of this little place. It felt like I was back in the 90's. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. I really wanted to try the ramen but it is only made on Monday. The waitress recommended the udon and it was amazing! I couldn't believe how good the broth was. The noodles and egg were cooked perfectly. The sushi I got was pretty good but not amazing. I was excited to try the yuzu margarita and it was good but a little pricey.

Osaka's offers Japanese cuisine in a stylish and contemporary atmosphere. The okonomiyaki, agedashi tofu and ramen are all delicious, and the restaurant is highly recommendable.
Me and my Significant Other came to Boulder for our Anniversary and we decided to try Osaka's. And honestly we both loved their food! Such great tasting dishes that we had to come back the next day to have Dinner again. I would definitely reccomend this place for whoever wants to try Japanese Orgin Dishes and wants an authentic and great service experience!

Great restaurant to get some authentic Japanese food and try some new things! Service was kind, atmosphere was inviting, and we got to try some new to us Japanese dishes that made it fun! Huge options for drinks I had never experienced, the tea was delicious! I was able to try their burgers that they only serve on certain days and that is a recommended experience! Had a great time and would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for some good Japanese food!

Everything about this place felt authentic. The food the service the atmosphere. I was recommended to try Osaka by many people so I had pretty high expectations. I was still blown away. The food here was easily the best Asian food I have had in Colorado. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. And to top things off the owner came around and introduced him self and told us the story of his restaurant. You can not beat that kind of hospitality. Anything you try here is going to be great I can’t recommend it enough.

This has to be one of the best Japanese restaurants that I’ve been to, and that is no exaggeration. I had a small meal of takoyaki, edamame, and some assorted nigiri and it was outstanding. The cold house sake is very good as well. Highly recommend! Update: I came back again and had the ramen and sashimi and it amazing. I would give it a Michelin star if I could. A true gem! 💎

A friend who lives in the area brought me here. We had a fair sampling of the cuisine and I was impressed they had a karakuchi sake available. The staff was friendly and well trained. The yakisoba was the best I've had this side of the Pacific Ocean, a surprise and a treat.
Devon W — Google review
Overall, I really liked this place! I would like to come back to try the yakisoba or the sushi that I noticed many people ordering. It's very authentic Japanese food and Japanese comfort food like the Okonomiyaki I ordered (it was very flavorful, yet heavy and rich in taste). The service was splendid and we were checked on regularly. My husband got the ramen which was pretty good standard ramen.

Best in town! I visited this restaurant for the first time, and I was truly impressed. Their ramen had a unique and amazing flavor that I haven’t found anywhere else. The sushi was fresh, soft, and absolutely delicious. The lemon ginger tea paired perfectly with the food. The cozy and warm atmosphere made me feel right at home. The staff were fast, friendly, and very welcoming. I will definitely come back here once a week!
Erdenesod U — Google review
TLDR: half of the food we ordered tonight was literally RAW and the ramen is literally worse than what anyone could make at home with packet noodles. We used to eat here all of the time, but today we made an order for pickup - curry ramen, miso ramen, chicken karaage, tempura shrimp, gyoza and takoyaki. The chicken karaage and takoyaki were raw, and the tempura shrimp smelled like old shrimp that had been left at room temperature for too long. Previously (under different ownership, apparently), their ramen bowls looked genuinely homemade and worth paying for. Now, the ramen appears to be the same kind you can buy from Hmart, and for the curry ramen, they clearly just add a block of golden curry paste to the same dashi-based broth that they use for other ramen, considering the chunk of curry block was congealed to the bottom of the broth container when we got it. When we tried to get a refund on the RAW FOOD, they first tried to insist that chicken is "supposed to be pink like that, that that's *authentic* (my husband has lived in Japan and even if you haven't, you know it isn't). On the matter of the takoyaki being undercooked, they insisted "it said to cook it for 4 minutes" as if this is the first time they've cooked it or something, which is WILD because we don't own a restaurant and STILL own a takoyaki maker that we FULLY COOK the takoyaki on. God forbid we wanted to be lazy and order instead of cooking our own octopus today. They forced us to call Doordash, insisting they couldn't, at which point DOORDASH said they should have been able to initiate the refund, and turns out this is their second strike with doordash for such a problem this month alone (which coincides with new ownership taking over based on other reviews)! We wouldn't have gotten a refund at all if it wasn't for the kind Doordash employee. Truly a disappointment after the years of good quality we had gotten used to. Go to Osakas or Tasuki if you want this food, don't waste your money here just because of the "nice remodel".

Genuinely the best restaurant experience I’ve had in years. Renovation speaks for itself; it’s an absolutely incredible atmosphere. Staff regularly checked up on us, delivered the food in only a couple minutes, and best of all was extremely personal, and I can’t emphasize that enough. Felt just like I was talking to a lifelong friend. Food was also probably the best I’ve had in all of Colorado, and easily the best sushi and ramen I’ve had. TLDR: Couldn’t recommend it more, staff is great, food is delicious, atmosphere is perfect for all occasions.

Best Ramen ever! Seriously. Home made Japanese noodles, incredible pork Tonkotsu. We’ve been all over Asia and can say this is legit! We also had the curry Ramen and I can say the flavor was just perfect, not too strong not too mild. Sweet spot. The atmosphere was delightful, the owners were lovely and very hospitable. Can’t recommend this place enough. Come on Boulder support this local business! This is coming from a Kansas City resident. You don’t know how good you have it!!

What a great find Just happened to join someone and so glad we went here. It’s a little hard to find in a plaza across from Safeway but don’t let the construction stop you from turning in. The owner was very kind with recommendations. Stated he just updated the menu to more authentic Japanese with a sushi menu. I am very picky with my sushi, bentos and dumplings and I just loved this place. He stated they make quality homemade sauces and selections Shrimp was tasty and sweet in both the dumpling and sushi Calamari nice and crispy I will def be coming again to try more bentos. And my friend loved his ramen too as he made his happy slurpy sounds. A must stop not just for a fall/winter delight

This review is for the newly opened and revamped restaurant, not the original. As of August 14th, it has been open for only around two weeks. Our family ate here kind of on a whim, but are so happy to have discovered the place. The food is very good, and well presented. I didn’t think to take a picture, but it was beautiful. They make everything in house, right down to the soy sauce, in the most totally traditional Japanese style. Staff are friendly, welcoming, and humble. And they obviously take great pride in the meals they serve. I would highly recommend people try this new version of the restaurant, especially if they were unimpressed with the former owner’s menu.

Stella's Cucina, located in the former space of Walnut Brewery, offers a multi-sensory dining experience with its modern Italian cuisine, Art Deco-inspired decor, live music, and a dance floor that opens on select nights. The restaurant is known for its house-made tagliolini pasta with Colorado lamb ragu and an extensive wine selection from Sardinia.
We dined at Stella's Cucina last night and we had an outstanding experience! The dining room is beautiful and intimate. I had expected a very loud meal, but the design absorbs noise and allows you to enjoy a conversation with your table, which is saying a lot- they had live music which was lovely and the right volume. The service was exceptional- our server was attentive, gave great recommendations and anticipated our needs beautifully. We tried many dishes and were impressed by the freshness and brightness of dishes that are typically heavy. The portions are not huge, which I appreciate- I loved the use of the right amount of high quality ingredients. The short rib, risotto and the sea bass were all great. The broccolini was a star with the crispy parmesan and basil oil. As someone who appreciates fine dining, I'd recommend Stella's to fellow foodies! Oh, as an extra, the chef even visited our table.

Nice venue hidden from Walnut street in Boulder, CO. Good ambience helped by live music. Our minestrone soup, lamb chops, octopus and creme brulee were very nice, but the pasta dish was bland. Definitely worth the try, but would recommend skipping the pasta. Service was attentive.

Excellent experience from the atmosphere to the service to the food. Beautiful presentation. The risotto ai funghi plate looked like a whimsical forest floor carpeted with berries and mushrooms. Met Stella and learned about her special touches to the menu, including incorporating her own peach jam. If visiting Boulder and looking for a nice place to eat, visiting this restaurant is a must.

We had a truly excellent experience here on a recent visit. Our expectations were already quite high, because it's an expensive dinner. I can say that it went beyond. First of all, every single thing we ate had marvelous presentation and was delicious. I included a photo of the steak on a salt block, before they took it in the back to cut it for us, and the salad. My own choice was sea bass and I loved it. We each had a cocktail from the interesting menu. My espresso martini was ridiculously good. We ended up sitting at the bar, and the bartender who was serving us was extremely pleasant. The general atmosphere was vibrant and warm. I can't think of a single thing to criticize, so I'll just end it there and recommend this place for special occasions.

I love the whole experience of eating at Stella’s. It is authentic Italian, delicious and service is extremely good. I especially recommend you go in your birthday they gift you this amazing lavender panna cotta. The tiramisu was spectacular too!
Val — Google review
My family and I went out to eat here and were disappointed by the food. The drinks were phenomenal, martinis done well, lovely wine list, and an espresso martini to die for. We started with the tartare and their version of a ceasare salad. The portion were small but both were flavorful, the tartare taking the spotlight. Then we ate the lamb, the truffle risotto, and sea bass. Lamb had practically no flavor, a good bass of potato and yummy lamb, but incredibly bland, for $50. The risotto was tasty, but even with some more salt would have been more enjoyable. The portion for this was on the smaller side, and tasty, but didn’t wow me for almost $40. Sea bass was a bit better but again, nothing to wow. For a Michelin recommendation I did not feel as stunned by any of the food, especially for the price. Maybe we should have ordered a few different items but again, disappointing. The staff were all lovely, friendly and attentive. The cocktails are made with precision and I enjoyed the wine I got with the meal.
Klara J — Google review
I LOVE this place. The service is impeccable. They remember their regulars, greet us with warmth, and give little perks. They change the menu frequently and I was so sad then they removed the Truffle Beef Tartare - it was hands down the best tartare I’ve ever had AND one of the best dishes. Ever. I would do anything to have that back on the menu. Even if it’s just a “call back menu” of the locals favorites or something like that… as long as it includes that dish. I have dreams about it. SO GOOD!! The current tartare is still pretty good. 😌 The pistachio crème brûlée is also a 🏆 🍮
Kayla O — Google review
Overall, it's a nice, fun atmosphere. We came here for our 1-year wedding anniversary and probably won't be back The food was interesting, but nothing left us feeling particularly satisfied. Also, when they ask for your allergies, list ALL of them. Because they leave some pretty key ingredients off their menu... I can't have cured ham because I will have an allergic reaction, so I don't order things with ham in them, no big deal. The braised short rib apparently has some kind of cured ham in it, which was not at all what I would have thought. It was also covered in such a sweet, sticky BBQ sauce you couldn't really taste the meat... The fresh pasta was the standout. Truly well made and tasy. Excellent flavors without being overwhelming. Cocktails were all very good and felt unique in a way that feels like you can't replicate it at home Also, this sounds kind of silly, but this is the first place we have been to for a very special occasion that didn't provide even a small little complimentary dessert or even a tiny thimble of champagne. The audience of this restaurant is.. interesting. Started off with a mix of business folks and others out for a late night fancy meal, and then transitioned to a bunch of well-off college students in sweatshirts. They were well-behaved enough, just an odd shift to watch!

The restaurant is known for its 4-course dinner option, priced at $75 per person with an optional $35 wine pairing. The menu features dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, including roasted beets, foie gras, seared scallops, and chai spiced panna cotta.
The atmosphere here was great. The bar on the upstairs while you wait for your table was fantastic with great bartenders. The food was great as well, especially the halibut. The crap fried rice is a bit salty so I wouldn’t do that again, but the gnocchi was fantastic! House wine is pretty good as well!

This is a spectacular shareable, quasi-tapas style bistro that offers eclectic flavors, combining cuisines, yet offering pedigreed options. Crispy cauliflower grants a surprise at each bite, as it's heretogrnous architecture creates a new facet of flavors at each corner. Texture on the cauliflower was gratifyingly hearty. The (what I will call "curried") hummus base was flooring in aromatics and really cuts through the flavors Burrata was brought together by the salsa verde and really carried flavor into the creamy texture of the goat cheese. Lamb arayas have a je ne se quoi (nutty from pine nuts?) quality that was stunning on the first bite. Great texture on the lamb. Pita was crispy and holds the spiced lamb well. The shrimp a la plancha features a gravy, which brings a necessary acidity to round out the meaty texture on this truly jumbo shrimp.

First time here and celebrated my birthday! The staff was attentive, kind, fun & overall just lovely. Our server was “Chris” (unsure of spelling) and he was fabulous and provided great service! The food was super good and served fresh (i think its 30 seconds from when its done in the kitchen that it gets brought to the table). Its shareable style dishes. We had the cauliflower which was incredibly flavorful and creative, the carrots which were phenomenal, the shrimp was delectable and I could bathe in the sauce its in 🤤 and the roasted chicken and fries! As well as some decadent chocolate peanut butter crunch mousse deliciousness. YUM! The lighting is low, vibes are fun and modern. I had an NA mocktail and it was super tasty as well! Amazing Tiradito!!! Definitely a must if you come to dine here, the steak tartare was very salty, and drenched in sauce but wasn’t all that bad, French fries were also amazing!! Such a delectable restaurant to eat! Nestled at the bustling Pearl Street, this was a gem of a find for us looking for brunch. We ordered three items, the Turkish Eggs, Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich, and the very popular Carrots. Yes, carrots. Trust me, they're worth it! The Turkish Eggs was a delight, no pun intended, with its savory poached egg floating on top of the smokey urfa chile-peppered labneh yogurt. The zaatar spiced naan makes a perfect pairing as well. The Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich is good, but not as memorable. Nevertheless, it was still quite good. The fries were good, too. The carrot, however is really worth the hype! It may simply be called just "carrots" on the menu, but the taste is far more than its humble title. It's almost like sweet potatoes in its subtle sweetness but better. The combination of that urfa chile, whipped feta, pistachio, sesame, cilantro, and mint made for an exciting combination of spicy and sweetness. Yes, we had to wait until 2:30pm (we came at 1:45) to get it since it's technically not on the Brunch menu, but it was worth it. All in all, the food was great, and the service was just as great. Next time I'm in Boulder, I'll have to come here for more tasty dining!

The food is pretty good. The garlic bread is a little hard but the flavor is good.If you can get past how hard it is. Everything we ordered came out wonderfully tasted amazing, didn't taste like chain. Italian food. It does take a really long time to get seated. They do not have call ahead or the wait list. It says it takes reservations, but when we tried to call and make reservations, they wouldn't take them. The servers were amazing. The bussing staff was amazing. Getting our meal took forever. Even our appetizer, which should have been out. Almost immediately took more than a half an hour. I'm not sure I would do dining again. Just because of how long everything takes unless I had several hours to sit there. But, I would definitely do takeout.. and yes, I did tip my server, and I tipped her, well. I also tipped the boy who packed up our food separately because we did appreciate their service. It was the kitchen that seemed to be the overall issue.

Second trip to Moab! second trip to PJs! Love this place. We came after a big rain and sat in the heated patio. It was lovely. I ordered the linguine with marinara and a side of alfredo sauce. We of course had to have dessert. Tiramisu was phenomenal.

One of its highlights is the availability of gluten-free options, with rice noodles cooked separately and most bases and toppings being gluten-free. Visitors have praised the smoked brisket pho, Yaki udon, and soft, flavorful bao at this hidden gem located near Pearl Street. The attentive staff and convenient location make it a must-visit spot for those exploring the area.
Some delicious bowls of noodles here. I ordered the pho and added an extra side of ramen noodles because I can't resist the hand made ramen. Deep flavored pho broth is a bit of a sleeper. Black tonkotsu was yummy, but a little oily. I'd definitely come back when I come to Boulder again.

Hands down best tonkotsu i have ever had. Spicy miso ramen was also better than the best spots i have had in little toyke lA. Brisket bun was also amazing but it wasn’t a real bun, more like a biscuit

After visiting the Farmer's Market right by Dushanbe Tea House on the 13th Street, strolled to the Dragonfly Noodles on Pearl and 10th in Boulder for lunch. It is right by the famed Zoe Ma Ma, with open patio seating. The restaurant was quite busy in early afternoon on Saturday. The menu was the same as their 16th Street location in Denver, but everything was ordered and prepaid by phone through scanning the QR code on the table, and the server would bring the dishes to the table. The service was attentive but not bothersome. Ordered the Maine Lobster miso ramen, black tonkotsu ramen, roasted duck bao and pork belly bao. The ramen soup was savory and umami. The ramen noodle was made in the restaurant every morning to ensure the freshness and taste. The bao was freshly out of the steamer, very fluffy and chewy. The roasted duck and pork belly were well marinated and very tasteful.

UPDATE: They have GLUTEN FREE ramen noodles! Full stop the best GF noodles I have had anywhere. I've tried most ramen in Boulder at this point and this is definitely the best in town. Tonkotsu with chili oil is top-notch!

I loved this play about 4 months ago. The new online ordering is a total cop out. I don't show up to place to order online. They charge a 15% service fee, the least you can do is swipe my card for me..the gluten free ramen is great but make sure to request that it's boiled in fresh water, or it will be boiled in gluten contaminated water.

Much better than expected, truly amazing food. Friendly service, and a clean cool place to rest and enjoy food. Highly recommend the Black Tonkotsu ramen and Dragonfly Pho.

Got the "off the bone" pho, it was very good. Thai tea is much less sweet than usual... you may or may not like that... it's not as creamy either. Service prompt and friendly.

Okay I love this place. It honestly has my favorite ramen of all time - the spicy miso is sooooo flavorful, with noodles cooked to perfection, amazing thinly sliced pork belly (my favorite, it's like bacon but better), this spicy they flake on top, and this lovely little spoonful of sauce. The broth is incredible, and getting take out or dining in is good either way. While it is a bit expensive and service is okay, I'd say it's worth the price.
