Stonehenge is a legendary neolithic monument located in Wiltshire, England. It was constructed using stones transported from Wales and its purpose remains unknown. Tourists from around the world visit this historical landmark to witness the prehistoric ring of standing stones. While dogs are not allowed in the monument field, there are plenty of trails in the area where you can enjoy their company while taking in the beauty of Stonehenge.
Brilliant place to visit. So steeped in history and mythology and the Heritage site has so much more than just the standing stones. The history is fascinating and the Exhibition centre does a great job at explaining the evolution of this Neolithic site. Fascinating to think the Megalithic temples in Malta predated Stonehenge by 1000 years and the Great Pyramids hailed from the same era! The bus to the stones and back run every 5 mins ( if you’ve bought the experience ticket) but you can walk to the stones in about 20 mins from the visitor centre. The stones themselves are magnificent and worthy of at least a couple of circuits around to take them in, appreciate the history and the lovely surrounding countryside ( main road excepted). Overall a great experience and it was a place I’d wanted to visit first many years. If I visit next time I’d just park up in the visitors car park (3.50/day) and then walk to the stones without paying the £30 for the experience as I’ve done that now. whilst the ticket price might seem a bit steep it’s probably not when you consider the development and maintenance of this world heritage site and area by English Heritage. I’d love to visit again at sunset or sunrise in the mid summer and winter solstices as the photos would be magnificent in the golden hour. Great visit and thanks to EH for preserving such an amazing piece of our heritage. Tip…try and get there early during summer as it is very popular with coach tours
Mick S — Google review
I didn’t go through the visitor center — instead I took a lovely, easy path through the fields. The walk was beautiful and peaceful, and it leads you right up close to Stonehenge without needing to pay. The site itself is amazing and well-kept. Totally worth it, especially if you prefer a quiet nature walk over the crowded official route.
Amit — Google review
Plenty of parking, free to cadw, English heritage, and historic Scotland. Very Busy even at 10am. Free Busses taking visitors down every 5 to 10 mins. And bringing back. No going on the stones. Very impressive visitors centre. Toilets, shop, cafe. All wheelchair friendly. Great audio guide app. Friendly staff. Soooo many nationalities visiting. Heard soooooo many languages. Wonderful place to visit. Better when not so many people, but over a million people visit so not any quiet time.
Jackie R — Google review
This is a beautiful English heritage site is a must visit when you are in UK. There is a paid option and an unpaid visit. Paid takes you closer to the monument and you can have a good look. You get a bus ride as well in the paid option. The unpaid option requires you to walk the distance of approximately 2 km. You can take the road or the field path which was my preferred choice. It was a bit longer than the road. You will only be able to look one side if not the paid option. Restutunt though was a deferent story. Didn’t like the service. Staff were a bit partially towards some nationalities. Only my observation and could be incorrect and subjective.
Roshan S — Google review
Visiting Stonehenge was enlightening and enhanced by our Evan Evans Tour audio guide. Visiting around 9am on a weekday resulted in smaller crowds and a minimal wait for a shuttle. The surrounding countryside make it a peaceful, scenic and even solemn historic site during yoru stay in the United Kingdom. Highly recommend considering a coach tour with a group! The exhibit was appreciated to learn more about the monuments build! A brilliant modern marvel!
Jenelle O — Google review
Our experience in Stonehenge was stunning. It's just amazing to think these stones have stood for such a long time, from around 3000 BC. This stone circle, built between the late Neolithic period and the early Bronze Age, deserves a one-in-a- lifetime visit. I think a two-hour visit is more than enough to grasp its significance.
Julieta A — Google review
Nice place and a big riddle. Better to visit in specific hours for nice photos. I didn’t take the tour and can’t say if it worth it, anyway you can’t get close to the stones. Nice place for hiking couple of hours at the green fields.
Elad B — Google review
Visiting Stonehenge is honestly a pretty unique experience and I would say it is worth checking out if you are into history, mysteries, or just want some epic photo ops. First off, the landmark itself is absolutely iconic. Those massive stones just standing there in the middle of the field have this weird humbling energy. You cannot help but wonder how people 4,000 to 5,000 years ago managed to move them around seriously it is mind blowing. The site is set up for visitors pretty well. There is a visitor centre where you can grab tickets, learn a bit about the history, and check out some small exhibitions. The shuttle bus to the stones runs every few minutes which is handy, but if you are feeling energetic you can walk the 30 minute path through the fields which is actually really nice and gives you some different angles for photos. Once you are at the stones there is a path around them so you can see everything from all sides, but you cannot touch them anymore which is a bit of a bummer if you were hoping for a hands on experience. The whole vibe is kind of peaceful but also slightly eerie, especially if you visit early in the morning or later in the evening. Sunset is actually a great time to visit because the low sun lights up the stones beautifully and gives the whole place an almost magical feel. The stones were positioned to line up with the sun on the summer and winter solstices which is insane when you think about it. Ancient people studied the sun and seasons carefully so the sunlight would hit the rocks at exactly the right time of year, marking important events in their calendar. The surrounding area is lovely too rolling fields and quiet countryside, which makes the whole trip feel a bit like stepping back in time. Just a heads up though weekends can get busy so be prepared for a crowd and a few selfie sticks blocking your view. Overall Stonehenge is one of those places that is more about the atmosphere and the mystery than just looking at some rocks. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and it makes for a cool story to tell friends afterward.

A beautiful garden in the Frome Valley, with terraces, statues and ponds, is often used for summer opera, jazz and concerts. The gardens open from May to September and have a gentle Italian feel.
An absolute delight. Tucked away in the very heart of the countryside these beautiful gardens provide the perfect escape. From manicured lawns, clipped box hedges, to wilderness walks with the ever present sound of trickling water through the Japanese garden and on down the terraced walks. Full of fascinating statuary and follies to sit in this place is an artistic delight. This garden has it all and even the gardeners know it!! The cafe/restaurant serves excellent food with buns to die for.

Garden was smaller than expected and terraced on a steep slope. Stonework blends nicely in with the greenery and lots of intricate sculptures somewhat faded from their former glory. You have to imagine what it must've been like in its heyday. Be nice to have some info included for £10 entrance fee. Cafe was excellent. Walled Garden salad bowl was superb.

Visited Iford Gardens on a sunny day and it was amazing. Peaceful and quiet — no crowds or noisy young children — just tranquility! Garden slopes up behind the house and (among other thigs) has a beautiful Italian style cloister, pavilion, a wealth of statues, and elegant colonnades. It feels as if you’ve stepped into Tuscany. New owners have also added a shady Japanese garden with pool, we saw dragon flies. The tea room and terrace are is great, although cake is on steep side price-wise. The ticket booth has a small selection of postcards/guide book - all you need (no over-the-top gift shop). A wonderful place for anyone who appreciates gardens. Only downsides: it closes at 4 pm, some paths are very steep (no kids under 10 allowed) and the access roads are very narrow — so plan your trip accordingly!

I've wanted to visit here for a few years and picked an amazing day to do so, absolutely beautiful place, well looked after, quirky, peaceful and just pure bliss. I took a little walk over the bridge too around the area. Just be mindful of driving that one route takes you through very narrow country lanes to get here if not spent years driving such lanes like me could make the inexperienced driver anxious. Plentiful parking onsite. A cafe and a restaurant on site the cakes were amazing. I did book a timed slot to visit as I read online that there are restrictions on how many they let in to the grounds so book ahead so as not to be disappointed. I have a Historic Houses pass which I could still book a slot with. The last who was on the booth that day I visited was lovely too. Get your walking shoes on and camera ready as this place is a must visit.

I stopped off on way back from my degon trip I've visited here awhile ago with family who live in Bath. It's near Bradford on Avon which is worth a visit and there is free parking, not sure if you can see house but gardens are lovely , weather was good, free parking, great views of hills. Worth a visit gardens are 10 pounds and can buy some souvenirs from the entrance hut. I didn't visit the restaurant and cafe but looked good and was fairly full. If I wasn't eating in Bradford would have tried food.

What a delightful time we invested at Iford Gardens; we’ll be back!! From our entrance welcome discussions, to the advice from one of the garden team, through to pausing a while at all the beautiful vistas - what a place to spend real quality time… The pond was full of life… And the cafe offering, even well after lunchtime, was top notch.
Andrew D — Google review
A characterful manor and stunning gardens in Italianate style and stunning setting. Lunch in the smart indoor/outdoor restaurant was delightful, presented and served most professionally. We did not sample the equally smart café but it looked first-class. All this made for a great visit and birthday lunch, all for a modest entrance fee.

Campground
Chalke Valley Camping, located in Wiltshire, offers a beautiful and peaceful setting for a romantic getaway, family break, or special trip with friends. The spacious layout provides privacy between tents and plenty of room for children to play. The site offers amenities such as a communal kitchen, table tennis, and a swing at the oak tree. Bell tents are well-equipped and comfortable with extra touches like fairy lights and tea light lanterns.
We stayed for 3 nights in late July with our 9 year old son and were very lucky as we were the only bell tent occupants during our stay. Everything was as advertised. The location is beautiful and peaceful. We saw bats and heard owls every night. Bell tent was spotlessly clean. Extra touches such as cool box + ice packs, complementary first box of firewood, marshmallows and cider were much appreciated. Loved the fairy lights and tea light lanterns in the bell tent. Communal kitchen was very well equipped, shower was hot and toilet was a proper one! Fiona popped round once a day to check everything was ok but otherwise left us to it. We would definitely come again!

Such a treat to stay here! The location is so remote and quiet - we felt relaxed straight away. The tents were exceptionally presented and such contained thoughtful gestures like bbq tools and coffee percolators. Fiona came down to see us and check everything was okay so we felt very well looked after. The site had everything you would ever need! Thank you and can’t wait for our next stay.

Spotlessly clean, stunningly beautiful, serene and remote. A perfect venue for the annual meeting of myself and my closest friends. Everyone commented about how well equipped the site is. The bell and safari tents blow you away as soon as you walk into them and the personal touches of complimentary cider and marshmallows were so kind. Thank you to Hector and Fiona who diligently answered every one of my questions in the lead up to our event and who were on hand but equally respectfully gave space for us to have a lot of fun. Looking forward to seeing you next year!

Chalke Valley was perfect! Very few words explain it better. The campsite was immaculate and equipped with everything you could need for a fabulous weekend away. Fiona and family were very welcoming and were always on hand should we ever need anything! Meeting Pip and Nutmeg (their dogs) was also a highlight! Our particular visit was a stag doo which was welcomed with open arms. The weekend was a very relaxing break in the country side with a beautiful landscape which we did take a short walk over to a nearby pub with a great beer garden in the wonderful sunshine. The onsite facilities were very clean and well catered for. Everything was thought of at every possibility and it didn't go unnoticed. I will absolutely be returning again with the family for a relaxing break. This site is a true gem! Thank you so much for a great weekend!
Jay S — Google review
We absolutely loved our two night stay at Chalke Valley, we were a little worried about not having phone signal but we were able to make calls and send messages the majority of the time. The campsite was just idyllic, plenty of space to play bat and ball, the evenings were gorgeous, watching the sunset and star gazing was absolutely beautiful. We stayed in a safari tent, it was very spacious and comfortable for 5 (2 adults, 3 children). We were only given one ice pack but there were plenty more in the freezer but the gate. The kitchen facilities were good, we managed to cook a spaghetti Bolognese without any hassle. We will definitely be returning!

It was lovely to be welcomed in person at this lovely Glamping spot. A very comfortable yurt, warm shower, proper loo, great outdoor cooking facilities and best of all stunning views and the sound of glorious birdsong. A gem of a campsite.

Spectacular location with good facilities and nice hosts. The bell tents are well equipped and very comfortable. The communal kitchen is well equipped for all needs and with a games area attached. Toilet and shower (warm) were good but could do with another set for the bell tents. All in all very pleased to have stayed at the site and will visit again.

Stourhead is an exquisite mansion dating back to the 1740s, nestled in a sprawling 1,000-acre estate adorned with captivating follies and water features. The estate's architectural grandeur and landscaped gardens are enhanced by a magnificent lake that mirrors classical temples, bridges, grottos, and rare trees.
Beautifully landscaped woodland walks with spectacular views, featuring many characterful 'follies'. This is a photographers paradise, with much to interest the horticulturist too with many specimen trees. The catering facilities are good, the main restaurant being situated near the entrance. There is a smaller facility near the entrance to the woodland walk, serving light snacks. A good gift shop too. The staff throughout are very informative and friendly, I enjoyed my visit immensely.

We had a fabulous day out at Stourhead. The views and walks were amazing. The house was also so interesting! Unfortunately I can't rate it a 5 star this time as the lake had blue-green algae (lots of good warning signage though) and the flower beds and gardens were looking very dry and a bit unkempt. We will definitely visit again in Spring!

First visit here very impressive with extensive grounds. They certainly knew how to do it in style those days. Volunteers were very welcoming and informative. Plenty of rooms to visit with information books. Overwhelmed by the portraits so many such a lot to take in. Trees, grounds and temples were magnificent. Refreshments were very good plenty of choice especially near the pub. Combined a trip to Alfred s tower which is very close. Look how small the bricks are. Spent a good full day here

Lovely walk around a lake. Easy access and nice views. Busier than expected at October half term. Good setting off point for other walks outside the grounds of Stourhead house. Large car park, pub (check opening times), farm shop.

One of the most beautiful places ive visited recently, the architecture and the scenery is just amazing, absolutely perfect for a family to visit or walk the dog . Stourhead estate on the Wiltshire-Somerset border is the perfect day out for everyone. A breathtaking 18th century landscape garden with lakeside walks, grottoes and classical temples is only the beginning. You can also visit Stourhead House, a Palladian mansion with a fantastic regency library and beautiful art collection. Then why not climb the 205 steps to the top of King Alfred's Tower, an amazing red-brick folly, for vistas over Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, or explore one of our Iron Age hill forts.

We went on a weekend in October and there were queues to get in, but once on the grounds it didn't feel too busy at all. The autumnal colours made made the scenery all that more stunning. If you don't want to grab a sit down meal before or after your walk, I'd recommend packing a picnic
Charlene B — Google review
Autumn is such a great time to visit 🍂 The trees had all turned different colours, and the reflection on the lake was absolutely stunning! We enjoyed the walk there, the trail took us about an hour to complete.
Irene — Google review
Visited on a Saturday, so we knew that the place would be busy and we aimed to arrived not too long after opening time. It turned out that many others had the same strategy as us. Because the grounds are extensive it didn't feel crowded despite the large number of visitors suggested by how full the carparks were. However, we did avoid the hot spots of house and grotto etc and went on a longer loop around the estate. The trees were in full autumnal splendour and, though overcast, the weather stayed dry. It's a lovely place to visit regularly through the seasons, especially if you like 'forest bathing'.

Nestled in the heart of Marlborough, The Polly Tea Rooms and Restaurant is a beloved establishment that has been delighting visitors since 1912. Renowned for its exquisite afternoon teas and scrumptious cream teas, this charming café offers a delightful atmosphere perfect for a mid-afternoon respite while exploring the town's rich history and vibrant independent shops. Although it can get busy, patrons appreciate the friendly service and tempting treats like the black forest roulade.
Hidden gem in this historic old town. Traditional tea room with lots of inside seating with atmosphere. Easy access for wheel chairs and buggies. Nice clean toilets. Serve tradition cream teas as well as cook breakfasts and lunchtime options. I had a bowl of chilli but no Jacket(as reducing my carbs) which was very nice and a little spicy. Service by the team was very fast and friendly. Good selection of home style made cakes and individual cake options. Would really recommend.

We popped in for a coffee, mid Monday morning. Plenty of seats available. The black forest roulade tempted me, I was glad it did. It was delicious. The atmosphere was nice, though decor a little dated, but that's the charm of a tea room. I found the staff friendly and efficient. Prices are on the high side, but we would spend similar in well-known coffee chains, and that's without table service, so I thought acceptable. Whether I could afford lunch there.... I'll let you know next time I'm in town.

We loved the Afternoon Cream Tea & cakes, and the Tea was wonderful too. Very reasonable price. The service was good tho we did have to wait a while to be served, even tho we had booked previously. However, the table could have done with a good scrub as it was sticky on top.

I really dislike leaving negative reviews but this place used to be really really good. Having not been for several years, I was in Marlborough and decided to stop in for a full English breakfast. What an odd experience. The food was served approximately 5 minutes after ordering which immediately made me think it wasn’t cooked fresh. The beans were cold and had a slightly acidic aftertaste. Almost like too much vinegar but it wasn’t that flavour profile. Strange The mushrooms were rubbery and frankly inedible The bacon looked anemic, very fatty and wasn’t warm. Eggs and toast were fine but it’s fried eggs and toast, not sure how far you could mess that up. The hash brown was the standout issue for me, and I noticed the lady a few tables away had left hers entirely. It had almost a fragrant taste to it, like it had been sprayed with a perfume. It was so over powering I tasted it and immediately put it back on the plate. Zero atmosphere, no background music. In the toilets the ivy plant was obviously homesick as it was growing through the open window. The server was reasonably attentive, pleasant but didn’t give me the option to leave her a tip which I would have if offered. Overall a negative experience. Ownership must have changed since I was in there last as this was a world away from the home cooked quality food I had previously. The cakes selection looked good so perhaps it was just the morning kitchen staff that is the issue. It’s a real shame. As I’ve written this review it reminds me of the kind of experience one would have from visiting a motorway service station. You feel somewhat made a fool out for overpaying for an underwhelming experience. Questionable cooking, minimum spend on facilities maintenance. For over £20 for a breakfast and drink for 1 person I would not recommend making the trip there I really hope the owners see this and have a good internal look at their operation, appreciate this is just my experience but that ivy hasn’t made the decision to become a house plant overnight. That’s weeks /months of neglect which has gone from an overlooked checklist item to a conscious decision to ignore a very obvious problem. The breakfast here honestly used to be worth a 20 mile drive which we did regularly. It’s now on par with a little chef outside of smog filled petrol station.

Amazing please come food superb but what make this place even more special is the group of young people front of the house and invisible in the kitchen .As we went on Monday 17/03/2025 young man with retro sideburns and mustash he has a wicked sense of humour and is very sharp.Followed by all other professional and welcoming service.Kudos i really appreciate the kind and respectful humanity as intelligent customer service

I never ever order BLTs when I eat out so I don't know what came over me when I decided to select this from the menu but I don't regret a thing. I like my BLTs a certain way: the bacon needs to be crispy, or with zero fat around the edges, and always with toast, never bread. After I had ordered at the counter, I realised I had neglected to specify these details and braced myself for an overpriced soggy mess of a sandwich. No need... the BLT was perfect! Toasted bread and crispy bacon, with the fat still on but perfectly crisped to give the sandwich some depth of flavour. My only criticism was the fries weren't great because you could taste the oil they were cooked in was a little old but I could live with that when the BLT was so delicious. I've given the atmosphere 4 stars simply because I had to listen to a group of ramblers who were sitting near me moaning about the prices, and the noise of traffic passing was loud (I dined al fresco) but inside it looked cosy and calm. (The ramblers did also comment on how excellent the service was so they weren't all doom and gloom. 😂) The service was impeccable; the servers were chirpy, polite and personable. A little expensive at £4 for a pot of tea for one, but hey, welcome to Marlborough. Sunny day, nice cup of tea, BLT al fresco, what a treat!
R R — Google review
We each had the special cream tea which I thought, at £24.50 each was over priced. There were three levels. Four finger sandwiches on the bottom, fresh and quite tasty. A hot stodgy scone with just about enough cream and jam on the middle section and five tiny cakes on the top. It was too much so we asked for doggy bags. Two cheap flat pack boxes were left on the table for us to assemble, with difficulty as they were not really fit for purpose. The wooden table without a table cloth, had a number of ring stains probably, tea stains. My teapot was chipped. Our cups were placed, not on saucers, but on small side plates. My earl grey tea was excellent. While the staff were pleasant and tidy in their black tea shirts and black trousers, they were a little sloppy in their manner. There were two toilets for the ladies but one of them was “out of order”. Some gentle back ground music would have been nice. We have not been to these tea rooms for about twenty years. We will not be coming again.

I had the goats cheese salad and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had the blt which came with chips. Obviously i pinched one as they looked great, nice big chunky size and tasted lovely. Parking can be difficult as it gets very busy but we were lucky to get a space just outside. We dined inside. Service good although they forgot the sugar for my husband's coffee so just a 4, otherwise would have been 5. Not cheap but good value.

Coate Water Country Park, located off Marlborough Road near Swindon, is a beloved destination for nature enthusiasts and families alike. The park boasts extensive parkland, a wildlife nature reserve, and a kids' splash park. Visitors can explore the diverse lake habitats and bird hides while enjoying activities such as fishing, birdwatching, and pitch and putt golf. The nearby Coate Water Railway offers miniature ride-on trains for added entertainment.
Lovely place to walk your dog. Lots of children feeding the ducks swans and the geese when they arrive. It's a long way round. There's playground toilets food drinks a crazy golf and pitch anf putt not active whilst I was there. My dog loved it. Wheelchair friendly I was on my mobility scooter and got around. Plenty of room for picnics. Will go again.

Coate is a lovely place to go to for a nice walk. Even if you want to just have a sit down and relax and take in the views, also has a picnic area. Splash park for kids ( and elders if u feel like it 😆).

A beautiful lake to walk around a Coate Water Country Park. Taking in fresh country air whilst enjoying breath taking scenery. The lake is a beautiful site welcoming all. Joggers, pushchairs, dog walkers, fishing and also cyclists. With a trail going around the lake to take your stroll, you will find plenty of seating to just be still and take a breath taking it all in. What better way to reconnect with nature but most importantly yourself. A true stress relief to be still amongst the water and the trees. All types of birds can be spotted here through all seasons. Come rain or shine the Country Park will give you a welcome escape from a fast paced life. To allow you to press pause or connect with others. Enjoy mini golf, the Coate Water cafe, a splash Park through summer, miniature railway ride, bird watching, Enjoy picnics, walking groups and lots more... There is a small charge for the car park but if it becomes a firm favourite to visit, I would recommend buying a years pass for parking. You can even link it to Lydiard Park should you wish. Then visit both sites as many times as you like.

Beautiful gem of Swindon, huge lake to walk around. The park also includes a splash park, golf and the miniature train ride which is my favourite. The cafe offers varying hot and cold snacks. Its well worth a visit you won't be disappointed.

The Beckford Arms is a charming country pub with comfortable rooms and a restaurant that offers delicious local dishes. The inn, which was rebuilt after a fire, exudes an easy-going atmosphere and features a character bar with wooden dining chairs, parquet flooring, and a large fireplace. Situated on the edge of the Fonthill Estate and owned by the Beckford Group, this ivy-clad establishment is popular for weekend getaways from nearby cities like Bath and Bristol.
Utterly scrumptious! The best meal I had in a really long time! The lamb kidney was cooked to perfection, pork shoulder was tender and juicy and the plaice was mouth-watering… I enjoined it so much that I forgot to take pictures till I was finished! Dessert was delicious too. I highly recommend! Delicious food and lovely spot! Gorgeous

The Beckford Arms, what an exceptional experience! Exactly what you’d hope for in a countryside getaway. I could go on about the delicious food, beautiful interiors, cosy rooms, thoughtful little details, and the lovely long walks nearby… but the real highlight for me was the staff. They were so welcoming, so polite, and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Highly recommend!

Great food and great service. We arrived without a reservation (a party of 12) the staff rearranged tables for us and got us fed and watered without any fuss. Thoroughly recommend it. Lovely beer garden as well. Fantastic place.
David B — Google review
Nice pub. Lovely garden and nice inside. Food and beer options ok. Service was very slow. They we quiet when we arrived and we seemed to be forgotten with only 1 waitress 'serving' the whole of the outside area. Reasonably quick to order, then so slow to get our food. Which was Ok. Slow then to get any attention to get the dessert menu (so slow we had to go and ask) and then really slow again to take our order. 2 1/2 hours to have 1 drink and a main course. It's too long.

Great pub worth going out your way for, is certainly a gastro pub and a ‘quaint British style’ which tourists would love. The food is awesome and they have a great beer garden, so what’s not to love.

Old Wardour Castle, located near Tisbury in Wiltshire, is a partially ruined 14th-century fortified residence with turrets and panoramic views. The castle was once known for its lavish entertainment and comfortable living. It suffered severe damage during the English Civil War, leaving behind imposing remains. The site offers a glimpse into the history of the area and provides visitors with an opportunity to explore its picturesque surroundings.
We tried to get inside so many times, but we always arrived by the time it was closed. Still beautiful, but the inside was worth the wait! The grounds are beautifully maintained, the staff is lovely and the castle is stunning and a lot bigger than it looks! The ground floor is pretty accessible but the stairs are very steep, so people with mobility issues might have a problem viewing the upper floors. There is an accessible bathroom as well as other facilities.
Kleo — Google review
Well worth a visit with your English Heritage membership. Quite a lot of the castle remains despite it getting blown up during the Civil War... Can spend a good couple of hours exploring the building and grounds. It's not really all that important site, but there is an interesting audio tour worth doing that explains about a lot of the history of the building and those who owned it. As ever, the staff in the little shop / café were extremely nice and very friendly.
Brian M — Google review
Most interactive castle that I’ve ever been to! It was really fun to look around all of the rooms and the stairs are still intact in most of the castle so exploring the rooms and where all of the people used to be was wonderful. The views from the top of the castle were fantastic and would definitely recommend. Staff in the office were really lovely and friendly too. The drive up is a little fun…think one way road but it’s actually two ways. Great English Heritage site and really enjoyed our time here! Was really quiet too.

We had a great time exploring the castle and grounds, not sure why we hadn't been before! Well worth a visit but would suggest bringing a picnic there is no cafe and the little shop there had sold out of all cold drinks after the bank Holiday!

A Magical and Romantic Historical Gem! Old Wardour Castle is an absolute treasure! From the moment you arrive, the breathtaking setting—nestled among rolling hills, lush forests, and a serene lake—feels like stepping into a fairy tale . The ruins are beautifully preserved, offering a fascinating glimpse into medieval history while still evoking the grandeur of its past . What makes this place truly special is its romantic atmosphere. Whether you're exploring the spiral staircases, admiring the panoramic views from the towers, or discovering hidden nooks like the charming grotto, every corner feels enchanting . The 18th-century banqueting pavilion by the lake adds an extra touch of elegance, making it a dreamy spot for weddings and photography . The site is perfect for a peaceful day out—bring a picnic, wander the grounds, and soak in the history. The staff are friendly, and the information boards provide just the right amount of detail without overwhelming visitors. Plus, the drive up to the castle is an experience in itself, with stunning scenery at every turn . If you love history, architecture, or simply beautiful landscapes, Old Wardour Castle is a must-visit. Even in ruins, it’s one of the most picturesque and atmospheric places I’ve ever been. Highly recommend!
Paul S — Google review
Although a little hard to drive to down those narrow single country lanes, it is a lovely place! The audio guide is great to get an overview of the history. But even without it is a stunning location.
Andrea R — Google review
Visited today it was a little further a field than what I expected and lots of bendy narrow roads to get to. I enjoyed the audio tape that came with the ticket and the displays dotted around. There was even a trail and some fun activities for kids sort of like a “ would you rather…” tale. Enjoyed the grounds And the beautiful forest too. Liked that you could go all the way up to the 4th floor and see the amazing views. It is also dog friendly, dogs were in the castle with their owners! A lovely place for a picnic. You could even fish I think from one of the many jetties over the lake . I also noticed the #WessexRidgeway goes right past there. Definitely worth a visit. @thewobbleyOwl came with me.

The Beckford Bottle Shop is a charming wine bar and bistro located at the top of a sloping, cobbled street near Baths Assembly Rooms. The ambiance is reminiscent of trendy wine bars in Haut Marais, complete with pavement tables and chic interior spaces. The establishment boasts a diverse selection of over 250 intelligently-sourced wines available for purchase at retail prices plus corkage.
I very much enjoyed the small plates menu with my partner at the Beckford Bottle Shop along with a few glasses of wine each. Our server Travis was very knowledgeable and attentive. He provided us with some great recommendations and really added to our experience. Needless to say, there is a huge selection of wine. The food surpassed our expectations - we enjoyed wine but would go back again for the food too!

My partner and I sat outside in the sunshine yesterday and were served by Josh. He was really knowledgeable about the menu and helped us decide between a few different items we were stuck on. He truly enhanced an already wonderful experience! Thanks again Josh! The food was absolutely delicious, flavours perfectly balanced and dishes arrived to the table staggered to ensure we were not over faced. A definite highlight of our trip to Bath!

We enjoyed a fabulous light lunch accompanied by outstanding service. The menu offered an excellent variety of dishes, but we chose the anchovies on toast, English peas on focaccia, and Cornish hake with carrot purée. The rhubarb crème brûlée was a triumph– one of the best desserts we've had in quite some time. A true hidden gem!

We sat outside to enjoy the sunny afternoon. The sharing plates were excellent. Found them inventive and fun. Service was nice but a little flighty, we always had to be on the lookout for our server. But this did not take away from the experience. Recommend for a quick and pleasant or lazy afternoon bite.

We stopped in for a drink after dinner. There are a number of tables and a large relaxed sofa area at the back. We enjoyed a great bottle of wine from their large selection. The small plates of for looked good but we'd already eaten. This felt like a 'grown ups' place with a great atmosphere and nothing too banging. We look forward to coming back.

Wedding venue
Nestled along the picturesque banks of the River Avon, the Legacy Rose and Crown Hotel is a charming 13th-century former coaching inn that beautifully blends history with modern comfort. With its stunning views of Salisbury Cathedral and lush water meadows, this hotel serves as an idyllic setting for weddings and special events. The newly unveiled Orangery event space and refurbished Cathedral Suite can host up to 120 guests, making it a popular choice for celebrations year-round.
5 Stars – A Dream Come True! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect venue for our wedding day! From the moment we arrived for our tour, we were blown away by the stunning scenery, beautifully maintained grounds, and warm, welcoming atmosphere. Every detail was thought through, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly. The ceremony space was absolutely magical—our guests are still talking about the breathtaking views and how elegant everything looked. The reception hall was equally impressive: spacious, charming, and customizable to our taste. The team worked closely with our vendors and made the entire planning process feel effortless. We truly felt supported every step of the way. What really stood out was the professionalism and genuine care of the staff. They treated us like family, and it was clear they were just as excited about our big day as we were. We felt relaxed and fully present throughout the day because we knew we were in excellent hands. If you're looking for a venue that combines natural beauty, top-notch service, and a heartfelt experience, look no further. This place made our wedding unforgettable—and we will always be grateful.

A lovely hotel ruined by frugal owners not investing in the property. The start of our trip was great, a charming room and very friendly attentive staff. But it all started going downhill from there. We experienced: • Never enough hot water, and the hottest was tepid at best. Frequently not enough warm water for both of us to shower. We were told on the Saturday afternoon "everyone is probably getting ready to go out, give it 10-15 minutes to warm up". It never did. • Incredibly slow wifi. Phone signal was faster. • 20 year old tv that wasn't even HD. • No toilet brush in bathroom. • Weak, useless hair dryer was completely pointless. • Lightbulbs missing, and different colours across the room. Some daylight white (not what you want in a bedroom), some orange. • Dead spiders and cobwebs right next to me in the restaurant whilst eating (see photo). Don't stay here.
Ben B — Google review
This is a very nice hotel by the river Avon. We arrived late afternoon. The check-in process was going smoothly. We’ve got a good recommendation for a restaurant in town which we followed. the hotel room was nicely decorated. There are two big windows which open to the garden and the river, very romantic. The parking space was large, however, to walk from the reception to our room along the Hotel building was rather cumbersome. There are steps to make every now and then and there are two more internal doors, not suitable for people with moving difficulty. The hotel breakfast was good, but the coffee machine was not functioning well on that day. The view from the breakfast room towards the river was super nice. it took 20 minutes drive from the hotel to Stonehenge.
Chongcharoen S — Google review
The food here struggles to even reach average. It is tasteless and either overcooked or undercooked. They also have a ridiculous nonsensical policy when it comes to roast dinners on a Sunday. Sometimes they will offer it if enough people book in, other times they won’t offer it all. We saw 2 people walk out who had specifically booked in for a Sunday roast to be told when they arrived that it wasn’t actually on offer. Another couple were also dissatisfied because they had been looking forward to a roast to then have to change their menu options on arrival. The quality of the food and the poor kitchen organisation is no doubt the reason why there were only 6 people in the restaurant at peak time on a Sunday! Replace your kitchen staff!! This establishment could be a goldmine! Such a shame because the hotel has such charming character, a wonderful location and the other hotel staff are amazingly accommodating and welcoming - the kitchen lets this place down! Shame. ☹️
Star — Google review
This review is based on the poor performance during high temperatures. The room was quiet, spacious, and offered a lovely view. The staff were friendly and welcoming. However, the stay was overshadowed by the extreme indoor heat. Offering this room when temperatures reach 30 °C is unacceptable. The small fan was ineffective for two people and ventilation was poor. Despite cooler night air, the building retained heat, leaving the room uncomfortably hot. To be clear, I’m not asking for air conditioning- just sensible ventilation. The small fan provided was nearly useless: its cord was too short to reach the bed and it only offered minimal relief when sitting directly in front of it. The bathroom had windows, but they couldn’t be opened. Therefore the main room lacked effective airflow, and the building retained heat even after outside temperatures dropped at night. Drawing the curtains to block the sunrise stopped any fresh air from entering. The use of thick duvets and the heated towel rails-fully on despite the heat-only added to the discomfort. Even the complimentary water was warm. Updating the windows and rethinking the ventilation system would go a long way in making this otherwise lovely room suitable for summer stays.

We attended for a family funeral and booked a deluxe suite for the night so we didn't have to drive. The location is breathtaking and overall the pub side of things was great, good service, good beer, good food. However, they took a £25 security deposit from my wife's bank account which hasn't been refunded a week later. The room wasn't clean and there was damage to furniture and decor that hasn't been addressed. We appreciate it is an old building, but there was visible dust on parts of the carpet as well as a large stain near the door and splashes up the wall. I would have expected management to have checked the room prior to letting it, especially in the circumstances and for a £25 security deposit to have been taken in the first place is unusual, but to not have it returned the next day is unforgivable.

The King John Inn is an elegant and upscale hotel with a charming country-style atmosphere. Located in the picturesque Cranborne Chase, it offers beautifully decorated rooms and a gastropub serving enticing meals and well-kept real ales. The open-plan bar features cozy touches like log fires, herb pots, and vintage decor. This inn celebrates the heritage of British countryside life with its award-winning restaurant, stylish bar, and luxurious bedrooms.
Booked last minute and paid around 100 pounds for a night w/breakfast. Great value at that price point and overall a pleasant and cosy inn. Pros were nice decor, good food and attentive service. Room was cosy not spacious but this was expected. Only real cons were room felt somewhat damp and parts of the room were a little dusty (there was a lot of interior decor to gather it), but in context of the price these were not deal breakers and the King John Inn still earns 5*. Nice local walks available too.

Called in for an evening meal to this delightful looking pub / hotel set in a lovely village location. On arrival while parking my car there were hard stares from locals sitting on the patio: my car is not loud or poorly maintained and i drive considerably so I have no idea what so offended them other than my existence. Staff were utterly disinterested and cold towards us (a quiet, polite middle aged couple) and made quite a performance of checking if any if the 15 or so empty tables were available, thankfully they were able to find a dark corner well away from other people where we could be ignored. The food was very good and I would have stayed for desert or perhaps had a second drink if the staff could have been bothered to offer either. All in all made to feel completely unwelcome by staff and customers alike.

Just returned from a wonderful lunch with great friends. What a fabulous experience we had at the King John. Upon our arrival we were greeted with a smile & a warm welcome from Millie & Jules. We were able to enjoy pre-lunch drinks in the sunshine enjoying great company. Our dining table easily accommodated the nine of us, the service was excellent & the food was beautifully prepared & very tasty, thanks to Chef Chris…… the setting of this wonderful pub compliments the staff & service. It was great to see the car park was full & clearly the 8 rooms which have been refurbished within the past year are proving extremely popular. We wish the King John team continued success….. we will definitely return soon!!

We had a fantastic roast dinner here recently. The trio of meats were of a really high quality and delicious. It was the best roast dinner I have had in a while. Will definitely return in the future. The service was excellent also. Thank you

Stayed for a couple of nights as we were attending a wedding locally. Our whole experience was fantastic, the room was great and very comfortable. The food was top-notch, as was the service. Went for a short walk into the village and locally one morning, and the views were spectacular. Highly recommended.

From the outside, this is the quintessential, classic, English country inn which is confirmed upon entry with beautifully decorated and appointed rooms. The food was also delicious, which one would expect, given the price point, but nonetheless it exceeded expectations, though I do question that the 8oz ribeye was closer to 5-6oz. Anywho, my one major gripe and the reason this review doesn't get five stars and only gets the one measly star, is that the bedroom was cold and a bit damp with the onset of autumn. After realising that the radiators were not functioning, I asked the young woman at the reception for the central heating to be put on as the radiators and towel heater were not on. She said "of course" and I was assured the central heating would be turned on so that our room would be "nice and warm" by the time we had finished dinner. It is very late September and temps dropped into the low teens overnight. During our meal, I was subsequently told that the heating wouldn't be turned on 'just yet' as it "gets too hot downstairs for the guests in the bar area." which I find strange as radiators can be adjusted and lowered individually and oh yeah heat rises and there are windows that can be opened to ensure optimum comfort for thirsty patrons. Anyway, we finished our meal and went to our room and lo and behold the room was still about 14-15C and dropping and still the radiators were as cold as the blue stones at Stonehenge. Completely unacceptable. Why not provide a space heater then if you don't want to spend the money on heating the room for your paying guests? We went straight to bed wearing our clothes to keep try and keep warm. It completely ruined the evening and our experience. My wife now has a sore throat and I am sure the cold damp air contributed. I really wanted to give this inn a five star review, but that meant their advertisement should have read: "The rooms are lovely and we make every effort to help you enjoy your stay with us, but we keep the heating off because we don't want the bar/restaurant area (punters) to get too warm." That would have been honest. While the UK doesn't have laws regarding hotel room temps (shocking, I know) the UK.gov guideline says 20c or 68F in old money, is the expected room temperature norm. This unfortunate experience was a good five degrees short of that comfort threshold. What I really didn't appreciate is being lied to by the staff, not once but twice. The staff and no doubt, the miserly owner, knew there was no way in hell that they were going to turn the central heating on for us, or anyone else for that matter. We found a thermostat in the stairwell it was set to 16.5C —this was in an area where the heat from kitchen and bar are would keep it significantly warmer. It was locked. So despite the inherent aesthetic lure and charm we strongly suggest that other travelers stay elsewhere. We definitely won't be coming back. Update: Waiting for you to put this right.

Outstanding! Highly recommend this little cinema, service, staff, layout, facilities, food, drinks - all excellent!! Independent cinema, with a real traditional cinema / theatre feel. Very reasonable on price, unlike other cinemas. Has a great open courtyard leading you to the cinema, a lovely well stocked bar, the seating was comfortable and spacious! Couldn’t be asked to go to the cinema before, but now will mKe it a nice habit! Well done! A must visit!! Enjoy!!

I am house sitting for my mum & wanted to stop for a coffee whilst out on Tuesday ..... I have an anxious rescue dog so decided to call into the cafe for a quick bite to eat & a sit down as it looked reasonably quiet. I was welcomed inside & the atmosphere was warm & friendly ( my doggie was given a treat ) the food was lovely & they even accommodated me nipping to the loo with dog in tow ! I have had my dog for 2 years now & due to her nature it can be tricky having a pit stop ...not so here I highly recommend, lovely atmosphere , friendly staff & fab food . 🙂

Love the place! Can't recommend it enough really. Saturday at 10am is the fantastic kids club - always something for the kids and never had a bad experience. The seats are big enough for them to relax in properly and they love having 2 next to each other at the back. The food here is good and the terrace outside is a lovely place to sit just a short walk from the high street. The river and park is just around the corner. The cinema itself is comfortable and has added so much to teh town, I encourage all locals to support it where possible, its real gem.

Customers appreciate the shop's focus on new artists not typically found in larger chain stores. The store also boasts a large selection of CDs and media, making it an essential visit for music enthusiasts looking to uncover hidden treasures across various genres.
highly highly HIGHLY recommend this place, absolutely beautiful shop with great selection of music and merch. however: they unseal the vinyl and reunite it with the album once you’ve purchased it (theft or resell prevention, i have no idea)

Great record shop, with a large selection in Vinyl, CD, Cassette Tape and DVDs. It's located off the main market street road with other shops in a cul-de-sac. Prices are reasonable with the equivalent from other main stream brands like HMV. Layout is snug but functional, CDs and most media being downstairs and Vinyl upstairs. Attendant on the desk was welcoming, will answer any questions and order media required if not present. Good to see a proper little physical shop for record buying!

SK is my go-to music shop for new vinyl. Prices are par for the course, but I like the fact you're more likely to find new artists that don't make it to the larger national chain. I prefer to support small independents and I appreciate the loyalty card system. Although I do not purchase CDs these days, you can see that there is a large selection of offer.
Craig P — Google review
Great knowledge and friendly, helpful service. Still, simply my favourite shop. Google has asked me to update again. Nothing has changed. Still, the warm welcome, still friendly, knowledgeable service, still remains my first choice for all my vinyl needs.
