The 50 best places for drinks in Rio de Janeiro

There is a dine in restaurant and a take out counter. We ordered from the takeout counter and went across the street to eat. There really were no tables or chairs, instead people used the sea wall as both. The take out counter has the usual fried pastries, but you can also order more entree type dishes. We tried something that was like a thick shrimp chowder served with rice and a fish Milanese, which was fried fish pieces with rice and a cole slaw like salad. I would say the food tasted fine, nothing to rave about necessarily. I think people go to socialize with friends, grab a drink and casual bite with the bay/water as the backdrop.

Very nice lunch place with beautiful view towards beaches and the boats on the water. Food was delicious. We liked everything we ordered. Service was friendly, good and quick. We'll go back here.

I try to go to this restaurant every time I visit Rio. Urca is one of my favorite neighborhoods and this a cool restaurant with great views and more chill vibes. The food and service were amazing.

Could be less bright in there. Food is good. Needs a sauce , a little dry. Had better versions of both dishes. Octopus is delicious but needs a sauce Solid choice 👌 but overpriced for the quality IMO

We came here not knowing it is a landmark for food. We enjoyed their pies, pasteis, and lunch options at the restaurant. The waiters were very friendly and attentive. It is an unassuming place, comfortable and relaxing. A full wall features dedications written by famous people. Metallica's been here.

Food is decent. Beef Wellington isn’t good. Burrata was the best dish we had. Beef tartar is tasteless. The severs are very nice and try hard so respect to them. Ceviche is ok. Pork bao was edible. Nothing great here. If you live in Rio maybe check this place out once. If you’re here on vacation it can be skipped. I think the issue with this place is they don’t have a speciality and the menu is all over the place.

The food was perfect! Exactly what you would expect from a Michelin recommendation. Also, our waitress Amanda was a gem! She recommended excellent cocktails and food!

We had an amazing meal at NOSSO. Starters were fantastic. My main was the Korean lasagne which was outstanding. The others got beef wellington and expressed that it could have had slightly more flavour. Nevertheless was our favourite restaurant in Rio!

This is a nice little spot with three levels and friendly staff. I loved the rooftop area overlooking the park and the street. The food was ok and the drinks were good. Oue server Latoya was friendly and very attentive.

A very nice dinner place with great atmosphere! Food was really good especially the grilled octopus 🐙 and the dessert was amazing, not too sweet but just right. Yuri the server was also very friendly, attentive, with a good product knowledge! Will def come back 😋

The picanha here is top quality, this place can actually give you meat medium rare! Extremely happy with the food! Pro: - food quality - menu - local and affordable - service (when you got it) Con: - they pack this place with seating, so you can be a breaths away from the guy sitting across and part of his conversation (but thay is brazil and not a Con for most people) - service (if they are busy expect to have to repeat for another drink over 4 times) That being said, I will go back in a heart beat, but once it's less busy!

Atmosphere and ambiance is exceptionally good. So much good time there. The owner made sure we were satisfies with the meals we had.

Came here as it was recommended to us for a place to go drink and listen to music. There wasn’t any music but possibly we came too early. The bar spills out onto the streets and lots of people around. Good drinks and service, prices are the same as most places around here. Didn’t eat but got a delicious pastel de nata

What and amazing spot!! Honestly, it’s a must on your bucket list of restaurants to go when you are in rio. The sandwiches are amazing as well as the other appetizers. It’s very well located - the atmosphere is good if you just want to have a quick bite.

Academia da Cachaça has some of the best feijoada in Rio, rich, flavorful, and authentic. It’s a popular spot, so finding a table can be tough. Try going on slower days to avoid the wait. Great food, great vibe!

Great food, great service. I was a tourist and non Portuguese speaker, but the staff was very nice and helped me as much as they can with the language. Food was amazing especially the Feijaoda.

Stopped by to grab cachaça while in Rio and this place did not disappoint. They have a fantastic menu for cachaça and we got their special, passionfruit, mango and a couple other ones and they all tasted great. I found out this place has great feijodas after a couple of days so missed having that but overall had a great time here during my visit. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and the drinks menu is waste! Loved it.

We loved the food and service here so much that we returned for a second meal during our stay in Rio. The staff are lovely and the feijoda is incredible! We also enjoyed some other dishes. Everything was excellent. Highly recommend!

Great little place with a broad variety of Caipirinhas and tasty local food, also with some nice vegetarian options. Fabulous cocktails in a speakeasy-ish vibe here in Rio. Every ingredient is locally sourced and the menu tells a beautiful story. We ordered their acai, cupuacu based drinks and enjoyed it thoroughly. The drinks dint just look pretty they were delicious. They also mail postcards to whoever you want to which was cool. A must visit when in Rio to taste their interesting take on cocktails.

Simply outstanding! We have tried cocktails all over the globe and these are some of the best. A well considered concept, balanced and delicious cocktails. They use many local, indigenous ingredients that are unique to Brazil. So you will literally never try this anywhere else. Our server, Andre, explained the flavour profiles of the signature cocktails and completely nailed it every time. He was excellent, explaining what was so special or unique about each option. We went back almost every night during our stay and tried most of the signatures cocktails. Don't miss this. We will dream about these cocktails when we leave. Thank you.

Liz Cocktail & Co is one of the best cocktail bars I have been to in my life- and that is rare praise. The intimate venue allows for a personal experience- Rayana and the other bartenders were so welcoming! The illustrated menu and captivating narrative that accompany each drink brings story to each cocktail on a level I have never experienced before. With fresh local ingredients and creative flavor profiles, we ordered five drinks each so we could sample the range of the cocktails. For me, the Cupuacu is one of my favorite cocktails of all time. We loved the menu and illustrations so much- we bought a menu and shirt as souvenirs! We visited on our last night in Rio, but whenever we make it back to Brazil, we will be back! Thanks again for such a memorable experience!

I have been visiting this place for 15 years. Best bolinhos de camarao e catupiry; bolinhos de feijoada are not my thing, but they are good. Service has been improving, most of the waiters are good. Mind the place is small.

I'm a big fan of this place. The beer is very good and staff are friendly. It's a cool street vibe too, and a great place to catch a local football match. Didn't try the food so can't comment.

Really loved hanging out here. They had fantastic beers on tap (one of the best selections available in Rio). The staff were friendly and welcoming even with my limited Portuguese. Beers are served in several sizes and on hot days I recommend the smaller so it stays cold as this place isn’t fully air conned and so you could find yourself drinking on the street. Oh yeah, they celebrate St Patrick’s hence the mass of green in the photos

Samba treat! So lucky to have a local friend to tip us off on this iconic spot. We loved the storytelling alongside amazing music. It was a special experience, very intimate and original. You can see it’s a neighborhood favorite with the local community.

A local experience you must have. A small place where locals gather up to play some music (samba) other come to listen to it and have some beer. You have to serve yourself from the fridge and tell the owner who will charge you when you leave. Very Small place. You have to be standing so it’s not very comfortable. But the vibe it’s great and if you wanna really experience Rio you should visit bip bip.

The very best place to lessen good Brazilian music. This historic little place it's a point of good musicians, also has a very clear political side, left! Founded by Mr. Alfredinho, it's a meeting point of Brazilian musicians who use to improvise classical popular songs. Also is very important to be as much silent is possible.

a real gem for live local music with different circles on different nights be respectful of the unspoken rules. do not chatter over the music, snap instead of clapping, grab your drink from the fridge then add to your bill/pay out front. i went on a tuesday night and the music started around 8pm.

I’ve always been curious to check out this place. On weekends, it’s always crowded. One fine day, we had the chance to visit it, and we don’t regret it. The drink menu has many options, and the snacks are wonderful. The highlight was the pork chop croquette, which was delicious! We would go back just to have it again!

In Rio? Like bars? RUN to Quartinho! The service is super friendly (and welcoming to tourists), the cocktails are varied and masterfully made, and the bar food is seriously delicious. Great music, too. I had a top experience on my first visit in 2021, and an even better one this time in ’25. It’s rare to find a bar that hits a home run on all fronts, so definitely check it out next time you can.

This is a fun, lively place with great cocktails and excellent service. The staff were really friendly, took time explaining in English for us, and we loved the vibe; with great music. Fantastic venue for watching live music. The venue is spot over several floors so there is plenty of seating, however the dance floor is at ground level so arrive early to get a table in view of it! Good selection of drinks with quick table service. The live bands we watched were great and had a packed dance floor. The venue felt very safe with IDs being checked on arrival. Would highly recommend a visit.

Absolutely loved the atmosphere here! You see all ages from kids to elderly people. It's so wholesome to see elderly couples dancing on the dance floor to the live band. We had food and dessert here which was delicious. Salad, steak, chocolate cake and a lemon caipirinha. Do also explore the upstairs of the bar. Waiters and staff here were friendly and fast in taking orders, clearing tables and serving food.

We didn't eat but the food looked okay. The atmosphere, WOW. I’ve traveled to many places but this night is up there with my top 10 memories of travelling. The music was incredible, the atmosphere was so magical. If you love samba and dancing this is a must. Cocktails were great and not to badly priced we found. Our waiter was very attentive and are table couldn’t have been in a better position to watch everything. We were concerned about safety but we got a uber there, 2 mins walk down the street and your there. We had no issues and felt safe (I was even videoing in the street) something I didn’t think i’d be doing.

Very nice place to visit in Rio. Going through a metal detector at the entrance adds to the safeness of this place. Take the elevator to second and third floor to get other experiences than the first floor offers. The food is good and very affordable - the drinks as well. Although the caipirinha’s is not the best we have had in the city.

Cool place to check out on your trip to Santa Teresa. This place has amazing cocktails, including many well known drinks. It's also expensive for the area, costing about $10 USD per drink. Still better than the US, but more than other places in Rio. The food has potential. It's good, the only problem is that 4/4 items we ordered over 3 different visits were all cool or cold. The nachos could be so good but they are just not the same when the cheese has solidified and the chips are cold. Same with the burger, which looks like their cheddar is a slice of square American cheese. The pastels were pretty good though. And the hummus.

Impeccable service and very lovely environment! Main dishes could be improved but the appetisers are perfect (we tried croquettes and fish salad). The only thing that disappointed us is the homemade soda 😂 not very recommended. But given the price, it’s still overall well worthy.

Visited this place twice on our five night stay in Rio. If you’re looking for cocktails then you need to visit here, they are so tasty! My favourite one is the Jambu Treme (highly recommend!!!). The staff are lovely, welcoming, friendly, and helpful - thank you Marco! The food is delicious too, definitely worth the visit.

We were really excited and looking forward to trying out this spot and enjoying it. It has a great atmosphere and great music but unfortunately the food took about 40mons minutes and that ruined our experience. I hope they do better going forward because the place has a lot of potential. Unfortunately I doubt we will be going back.

Perched on the side of the hill, this was our local watering hole when we stayed in Santa Teresa. Cool vibe, awesome outdoor set up and an amazing range of cocktails which are even more delicious during happy hour. The food was also on par - delicious and fairly priced. Very nice, chilled restaurant if you want something traditional and tasty for lunch. Enjoyed the pork chops with rice and fajolada, which was great. They only had one type of croquettes with beans inside a very little meat, which tasted okay but were not amazing. Would still recommend paying a visit here!

Do you know when can you eat bones? When it has been cooked in the stew for so long that its calcium breaks down and flavour comes out. This is how I know I have had one of the best stews in my life, not just the best Feijoada. The stew does not cheat - plenty of meat, sausage and beans cooked just to the right texture. The sides were perfect complements to the stew, especially the orange slices with the sauce - yes I ate it that way and saucéed the plate with it. The staff is friendly, attentive and under the classical music backdrop I was losing my mind as I had my meal. Nothing touches the soul of a sick traveller better than such a stew on a rainy day.

We ordered the Yuca, the fried chicken and the feijoada. It was a lot of food but def very expensive. The feijoada has a very strong pork taste for those that are foreign. The fried chicken was tasty.

Bar do Mineiro became our local when we were staying in Santa Teresa. The atmosphere is great, there are three levels for seating, the food is first-rate and reasonable, and their house beers and cachaca are outstanding. They are patient and understanding with those of us who have limited or non-existent Portuguese. We recommend the place to anyone.

We really enjoyed our dinner here! Maybe even 5 star. Big selection of food. LOVED the simple but delicious black bean soup with pork belly, cheap and filling and tastes great! Also the cold octopus with vinegar and seasoning. And the sardine. The shrimp rice for one person was good and actually enough for two people. Our server was super nice, smiling, patient, and helpful. They have nice drinks here too. Outdoor seating looked fine, but we stayed inside which is comfortable and many seats. Glad we came here and will come back for sure.

Came just before noon when it was moderately empty and left an hour later when a queue was starting to form outside The service is friendly and helpful and they have a long menu but I picked from the display case. I don’t speak Portuguese but the server was very patient and nice! Got fried fish eggs and salmon, which were great! Operating since 1957, it has sold Portuguese and Spanish delicacies in 100-gram portions, accompanied by ice-cold beers or cachaça (sugar cane liqueur). Former customers took over from the original owners and have preserved the traditional boteco ambiance down to the last detail. In April 2025, we ordered grilled squid with broccoli rice and salad (R$50) for lunch. The presented grilled squid was a surprise as we expected it to be sliced before grilling. It was cooked rather than grilled in one piece and gave us a different taste of octopus. No octopus deep-fried. Service was good at the small and narrow tables. The atmosphere was special. For an authentic and tasty experience, especially for seafood lovers, Adega Pérola remains a remarkable destination in Copacabana.

The only place in Rio where I was able to find an IPA :) If you are confused about snack options, just ask for sausage, cheese, and bread - that’s all you need, believe me :)

A relaxed, no-frills tapas bar. We went for lunch during the weekday and got a table right away. We got a mixture of grilled (hot) dishes and ready-made cold dishes - all seafood dishes. The cold dishes were definitely the standouts - we got the octopus, haddock and lobster. Haddock was our favourite!

Mostly indoor seating with a counter of already prepared dishes. We had the mussels and octopus dish. You order by grams. Both were marinated the same way with onion, oil and other spices. Both were tender and slightly cooled when served. We didn't try any hot entrees. The coconut water actually came in the coconut. That was the best-very refreshing after a long day of flights and no sleep, walking around in the heat.

Nice place with a variety of seafood tapas. Unfortunately, the one I chose wasn’t to my taste—there was hardly any codfish, but an overwhelming amount of raw garlic, which made it hard to enjoy. The portion was also quite small for the price. On the other hand, the shrimp rice I ordered was decent and came in a generous portion. Overall, it’s a nice spot to check out, though some dishes could be hit or miss.

Very pleasant range of tapa-like appetizers and main courses. As this is Brazil, beware that even tapas can be big. Excellent attentive service which is unusual for Ipanema with friendly and helpful staff. Good cocktails and wines at reasonable prices. Always very busy. Best to arrive early as the restaurant and terrace is modest in size. A great job in a small space.

Good service and delicious food. Steaks, pasta, seafood and deserts are all very tasty. But they are know for their awarded brand of draft and bottled beer. They have tables inside, if you want more privacy and air conditioner, and outside, if you prefer to be by the beach street.

Nice atmosphere. Really good meat, portions are big, the Angus was about 400gr. Really good assortment of side dishes, though they didn't have farofa on the menu but we asked and they made it for us anyway. Excellent service.

Dishonest staff. They give you car plastic card and bracelet with the same id. When leaving the place, they wanted to charge 20 reais extra because I lost the card on top of what I drunk there. A friend said: “Código de Defesa do Consumidor não autoriza os restaurantes ou estabelecimentos comerciais a multar clientes com a perda de comanda.” Two other guys became aggressive when it was said it’s not legal to do that.

Sooo much fun!!! I was here on the first Saturday of the year, they had about 20 people band playing. It was wild! Band players, mixed in with people who were dancing and the spectators, we were all one big, samba dancing band. How you know the party was good? People in the adjacent bars were going crazy along with us and there was a crowd of people gathered next to the barricades separating the bar from the street. Cocktails were strong but good as well. Everyone was dancing! Highly, highly, highly recommend!

Excellent bar and restaurant with many events and live music! One of the best places in town! The second floor turns basically into a mini-venue for some really lively shows in a variety of music genres. They have specific days for each music genres, so check beforehand when your favorite's gonna happen in their flyers or site. But both the staff and regular customers are usually party and friendly no matter which day it is.

DO NOT RECOMMEND! I saw this restaurant on Instagram and when I was planning my birthday trip to Brazil I had to include it. I was super excited but all of it went downhill once we were treated with disrespect and felt racism from the servers. I had a reservation for 4 people at 7pm, we arrived on time but we had to be sat at the bar because they were “behind”, mind you when we sat at the ballroom it was empty. After 10 min they took us to the table were we sat for another 20 min without even being greeted by a server, I still don’t know who our server was. After 25 min we then called someone get us the drink menu and my cousin asked for tea, which took a long time to arrive. Throughout all of the situation 3 other party arrived (white people) they were sat with all the honors, greeted by the server, given bread, wine and water. After almost 1 hour of being ignored (we didn’t get an Hi or Welcome) and with nothing on the table other than my cousin tea, we just decided to leave, because the side eyes of the servers made for an uncomfortable environment. When we tried to explained why we were leaving, instead of apologizing and trying to make it up, they just made excuses for their poor behavior. Will not be back and I don’t recommend it!

Food - not refined, and I suspect the chefs dont taste the menu. High prices make it a mockery. Service - waiters were friendly. However, one took a plate before my daughter was finish. It was very odd. Atmosphere - was ok. Suppose you are paying for the out of character decorations but to Europeans it looks more tacky than anything else.

This is a true palace... beautifully keeping the atmosphere of the early 20’s when it was built. I had the "afternoon tea" experience followed by the musical "Sob as Luzes da Broadway ". Food was excellent, courteous and efficient service. The play was outstanding. All in all something not to be missed by cariocas and visitors alike.

Enjoyed a flight of beers with a light snacks. Stayed a while having a couple more beers of which all were delicious. Only downside was lack of t-shirts in large, they had none and having seen the website before we flew to Rio we were all in for buying some. The artwork for the beers is phenomenal. Such a shame. Overall, it was a good experience. The customer service was excellent. The reason for the 4 stars is that the Chicken Chicken No Fuba were not as delicious as they looked. We had a flight of beers consisting of numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, and 9 (see menu for a description of all beers). My favorites were number 5, a blonde beer similar to Blue Moon, and number 9, an IPA. The worst one was number 3; I didn’t really like it. The Porquin Desfiadin (empanadas) was very tasty. The vibe was great there. I will be back.

Came on a whim, paid a cover which we normally don't like to do, but worth every penny. Cheaper beers on Thursdays make it much easier, food was reasonably priced, quick and tasty. Staff are friendly, space is limited so arrive early if you can.

Good cocktails nice staff. The bartender does everything to make you happy. We drank 2 different special made cocktail. My girlfriend has a different one called cocktail Luísa(not on the list)! . The Fasano has some of the dreamiest Ipanema views imaginable. The rooms are quaint, but beautiful and impeccably designed, the food is fresh and delicious, and the staff couldn't be friendlier. Giving it 4 stars only because *nothing* beats a Posto 9 açai na tigela or caipirinha de maracuja for a fraction of the price. It's definitely a special treat, though.

We were thrilled to come to Baretto-Londra after reading all the wonderful reviews. We arrive at the door and we're told there's a live pianist so there's a 50 real entrance fee. Ok, based on the reviews we expected that the show would be amazing. Unfortunately that was not the case. The pianist is amateur at best, definitely not worth the entrance fee. The bar was empty, the only other clients related to said pianist. We also ordered mojitos and they were horrible. I am still waiting to see the work or the genius mixologist. I don't know if we came on a bad night, but don't waste your time or money here on Saturday night.

Nice boteco with Brazilian cuisine - we ordered various snacks to share. Pimento was very tasty again. The other items were also very tasty. Caipi was a 10/10. Compared to other Botecos, however, a little more expensive. Service was super friendly and we felt very comfortable!

A great susrprise. The place looks like tourist catch and also regarding it is a franchise I was a bit sceptic but the outcome was really enjoyable. We go for some fishy dishes and a total match. Moqueca and the rissoto contained a lot of flavour and rhe biffe of chorizo delicious.

Lovely place with AC and not at all busy around 6pm on a week night. We got a little confused reading the menu, but eventually ordered a pork and pineapple sandwich. I was worried it might be dry, but it was juicy. We also tried the filet mignon with pineapple and pate sandwich. The beef was also tender, but the liver pate didn't really add to it. You can order without. Of the two, I prefer the pork. The mojito was on the sweet side with not enough mint. The staff was patient and friendly.

Cervantes was once a legend for late night meals. The waiters used to dress in old school uniforms — and were very efficient (though also not particularly talkative). What I most loved was the simple, impeccable food and chief among the best dishes on the menu was Cervantes’ signature sandwich: thickly sliced roast beef, pate and grilled caramelised pineapple. This evening I returned to Cervantes after many years and my first impression was how shabby the place looked. It was no longer charming but just cheap — most notably the hideous ceiling and faux brick walls. Anyway, I ordered the roast beef sandwich and asked the waiter three times (on my translator) if the pineapple was grilled. Each time he gave me the thumbs up sign signifying yes. However, what arrived was a poor version of the original sandwich with wet, sloppy pineapple in the middle. Corner restaurant with outdoor seating. It's not the place to go if you need to get away from the heat, but most seats are shaded. They offer freshly fried cod balls. Quite tasty! Lovely traditional food in a place full of locals. Service is reasonably fast considering how busy it is but no one really speaks English nor there is a menu in English so just be prepared to order based on Google images/ translate if you don’t understand the names 😊 We had two drinks and few dishes and paid less than R$ 100 so definitely value for money.

Atmosphere was really bland. Nothing going on. The food was okay, however the pizzas did not have any sauce and the prices are outlandish for the quality. You get food that should be cheap canteen food but for prices that are comparable to fine dining. I will not come back here and wont recommend the place to anyone unless they have way to much cash on hand. To be fair to the place though, we did not get any of the dishes they very likely usually serve, since the prices were just way to high for our budget.

“Part of the city furniture” this restaurant is a classic , good food good choices and a nice view of the Lagoa. Somewhat hard to find parking close by , food options are great and service always good. Some dishes can easily be shared between two.

We had a good meal here. Originally wanted to sit upstairs, but there was an upfront cover fee, so we decided to stay downstairs — which still had plenty of atmosphere. Lots of small plates were being offered around. These were very tasty, though a bit on the pricier side. Despite the restaurant being very busy, we got a table easily with no wait, and tables seemed to turn over quickly. We both ordered chicken dishes, which were nice enough but a little underwhelming for the price. They lacked flavour, and in hindsight we probably should have gone for the beef instead. One downside was the automatically added tip — we felt quite pressured into paying it, which took away from the overall experience.

Very cool please! In the heart 💜 of ipanema beach in Rio. Our uber guys recommended this place and we loved. They have a large menu that includes food and drinks. Plenty tables on the first and second floor. The waitresses constantly walk around making sure you are ok. The food was very good and their caipiriñas were amazing. If you want to have access to the second floor there is a fee. I believe is around 30 reales. We stayed at the first floor and we enjoyed everything. Visitors from many countries. Great ambience.

The food was good but they charge you 35 reais per person to sit in the rooftop. Even that’s not enough apparently because they charge you %12 couvert again. For that money, you expect a view but they make you sit near the toilet at the very end. Nonsense. We do not recommend this place at all because of these reasons.

I ordered a burger with a caesar salad. At the bottom of the salad was a crumpled up paper towel that was completely mixed in with the dressing. When the check arrived, i told them i wasnt going to pay for it. Not only did they not offer to cover my bill, they also tried to tell me that they didnt put the paper towel in the salad, and that it had to be me that put it in. The manager threatened to call the police on me. Eventually i got it refunded after arguing for a while.

It's a place to see people and drink. Friday and Saturday nights are very busy and people even hang out on tables outside. By the way, my favorite ones are those on the edge of the sidewalk as you can see the whole scenario from there. Their feijoada on Saturday is good too. Not the best but good, specially if you don't like it too salty (I do!).

Interesting PUB, quite lively for and local spot. Extremely close to public transport system. Staff is quite agreeable and fast even with the house full. Very interesting and diverse selection of draft beer and drinks.

Great great atmosphere, lovely staff, HUGE portions of great quality food and a wide range of cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. I’ve come back twice in the last week and definitely planning to return!

Great place to watch the football and have a few drinks. Cool deco, love all the celebrities around. Loved the sink in the bathroom, it's all decorated lovely. The staff are lovely and friendly too.

Favorites: Marias and Coxinhas It is a great restaurant and bar in Copacabana. They have inside and street seating. Liked the vibe. The food is more fastfood but the quality was excellent and they have a lot of options to choose. We went there on New Year 's Eve (heads up, they will close at 7:30 pm for the night).

Os Imortais retains the spirit of tradicional Botecos as in the more centric areas of Rio. Perfect to spend an evening with friends watching a football game, but equally good if you just want to grab a quick bite and beer after work. This restaurant was distinguished by being granted prizes for the quality of their appetizers.

What a exquisite place! Best Coinxinhas de Frango I’ve ever tried! Also Feijoada is a must. Loved this place, during our stay in Rio we went almost every day.

Delicious chicken wings

Found it on Eater and it looked cool but the food wasn't particularly good. Sushi was cut poorly as it had stringy parts to contend with and the donburi was over sauced.

I was pretty stoked to try this place as it showed up in a lot of my searches for places to eat in Rio. The service was friendly and great. However the food was not good at all, I am not from Brazil and have not had any other Japanese food here yet , but I Hve been to Japan and many other cities and had a lot of Japanese food all over the world. The fish is my nigiri was very warm, like alarmingly warm, the rice should be warm but the fish being that temperature scares me from a food safety perspective. The buta no kakuni was inedible, the pork was incredibly tough, I'm not used to it being served in such a light broth, however if that's how you want to serve it, it still should have had more flavours of dasbi, soy , mirin and sake. The broth was relatively flavour less. The karage was decent tasting but not a typical karage, the chunks of chicken were quite small and didn't taste like the chicken was marinaded before hand . Gyoza, unfortunately also not good, not a great sear on them , pork filling was lacking flavour, could have used some ginger. The Toro, O Toro seemed like they were cut sloppy. Overall I love the open air street seating and it had great clientele in there but the food was unfortunately a waste of a meal in my limited time in Rio.

Authentic Japanese sushi in a izikaya vibe. Excellent tamago+unagi sushi. If you are looking for true Japanese sushi and not fusion rubbish then this is your place. open late and chilled vibe and outdoor and indoor seating it’s proper.

Pabu is a great izakaya experience, especially for anyone not having experienced one. The inside is intimate with a long central bar and a few side tables. Don't expect to be seated quickly with a group over four people, but there are patio seats. The service can be slow. Even sitting at the bar in front of staff it takes time to get someones attention if you need something. They're always busy. Be very clear when ordering. I asked for tonkatsu (a ramen bowl) but received katsu (a fried chicken plate). But you know what? It was absolutely delicious. Everything here is delicious. The katsu was perfectly fried and juicy inside. The karrage was the same. Even the veggie gyoza were an order I'd have again. The flavors of every sauce burst out when tasted. I'd happily return any time. Once they fix their service issues it's an easy five star.

This place is great, I went alone to have dinner they offered a good sake for my dinner. The place is small so there’s not many tables! But is really nice and the most important the service is great, the food is nice, just probably as a recommendation we should get a menu in English or Spanish for international.

Really great sushi and fish quality. Presentation and decor upgraded. Chicken kagage and fermented cucumbers outstanding. Good selection of Japanese beer sake and whisky and also non Japanese as well. Met with one of the owners who is also a chef and he was lovely. The staff are ok. I want to buy one of their t shirts. Great design.

This was literally the worst experience in my life, I never do reviews and you can imagine how pissed of I am. So 4 of us ordered few drinks and couple of differen dishes, first they made mistake once with drink, then they bring two wrong dishes, after that we waited 45 minutes more to get one order replaced, another order to get a side. 45 minutes later we got everything cold of course. Quality of the food is not a problem, the problem is service, slow, very bad, we spoke on Portugesse so the language is not the issue. Also its crazy long line to wait in front, everything smell like a piss because people urinatining near the restaurant. So if you need opinion, DO NOT GO HERE

The place has great potential, but the food was disappointing. We ordered the Fritas Marechal, which seemed like it had been prepared two hours before we arrived—it was completely soft. We also ordered torresmo, which is supposed to be crispy pork rinds, but what we received was just fried pork fat with no skin. Another dish we tried was carne seca acebolada (dried beef with onions), and it was extremely salty, as if it hadn’t been properly soaked to remove the excess salt. If you’re going for drinks and the atmosphere, the place is great. But if you’re going for the food, I believe you can find better options in Rio.

Not the greatest feijoada of my life, but overall experience was nice. 4 stars because I found all of the staff members very friendly, and the live music was perfect for the restaurant. I would probably go back to have some more caipirinhas, they were great !

Went there with my Family and the meat was super tasty. Also the waitress (Jeane) was very kind and attentive. Even though we spoke only little portuguese communication worked really well. Would recommand.

Seats on the street only but great atmosphere! Great selections and exotic flavors! And indeed some show on the other side of the street....

Skip the flavored cachaças everyone goes for and try the white or wood-aged ones. You can travel Brazil with a couple of plastic cups and a well-lined stomach.

Local bar with good vibes, super central in Lapa. Best for some relaxed drinks or just doing pres for a big night out in Rio.

Spirits from several states of Brazil, for people who like hard liquor it's a place to know in Lapa. Some are quite good, some has dubious taste, but it's a cheap option with many possibilities. Outdoor seating only and they accept credit cards.

I have never imagine going to a place like this and the attention is 10 stars!! Literally the party is in there or by the street! Thank you so much guys!!

Have to agree with the other reviews — the garlic bread is amazing! It’s definitely not a super local spot as there were mostly tourists when we went, but the food was genuinely delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked and full of flavour, and the mashed potatoes were also really good. Huge portions too — we left absolutely stuffed. Very good overall!

Went here because all the reviews were great. I will agree on one thing...the garlic bread was fantastic! We shared the full spring chicken with sides. It was ok at best, the skin was very salty and egg side was mainly flour. Caipirinha's were good. Waiters didn't really say anything to us and they still added a tip. Won't be going back. Much better places around.

First, Really like the servers vibe. I’m not a big meat eater so ofc this place wasn’t anything special to me. Beware of the salad - it’s not what you think (see pics) But that garlic bread was insane - in a good way. I smelled like garlic for 2 days.

This was the first meal I had in Brazil after not eating for close to 24 hours while I was travelling , it did not disappoint . The chicken was flavour and tender, and I enjoyed the Sat's sauce on it. The fries were good quality but needed some salt (no problem it's on the table) and the garlic bread was amazing, how does more of the world not talk about Brazilian garlic bread. There are good odds I end up back here during my stay in Rio.

Galeto Sat’s have mastered the art of rotisserie. They make the best garlic bread I’ve ever had. They make chicken hearts taste mouth watering good. A must visit in Rio.

The restaurant's appeal comes largely from its charming decor, dating back to a time when things were going well. Ridiculous pricing!!! R$144 for a bit of tough, dry chicken, a cheap sausage coming straight from a supermarket, and a mountain of tough, super salty and amateurish roasted chicken hearts—I couldn't believe the bill! I have eaten juicy chickenhearts and picana for a fraction of the price of this chewy, dry meat...

Anthony Bourdain has dined here for one of his shows. That along with a few food blogs from the States and Brazil recommending it means it was on my list of places to eat at. It’s a solid restaurant that serves up pretty good chicken. In fact I ate here twice in a week, the first time to try it out and the second time because it was late at night and they are open until 5AM. Both times I was here it was timed right and I didn't have to wait for a table. The employees were accommodating to a tourist like myself who has a limited Portuguese vocabulary. They also have English language menus although I do like to navigate a menu in another language just to see what I can recognize. Both times I had the chicken with the garlic and pepper sauce as well as pão de alho. The chicken was perfect, juicy and very flavorful. And plenty of garlic. The garlic bread was delicious and had plenty of garlic. I love garlic so it was great for me but I can see some people saying it may be too much garlic. Batatas fritas were good as well. There was more I wanted to try but I will definitely be back the next time I am in Rio de Janeiro. This place has been around for decades so it should still be around on my next visit.

Such a wonderful spot for breakfast (& I’m sure other meals too!) The patio location is right on the Ipanema boardwalk with fantastic views of the beach. Restaurant played some light bossa nova which was a lovely atmosphere and service from our waiter Mario was perfect. Lastly, the food we ordered hit the spot. We hope to return on our trip!

Been here two times. Beautiful place, beneath a hotel, with good vibes (a bit stiff though) and a great location and view at Ipanema. Nothing to complain about food and drinks, but the second time I did not come back for the drinks but for the view and the chill ambient.

The food is average and the service is slow. They had all the exterior tables “booked” and with a long waiting list but we spend more than one hour dining inside and the tables outside stayed empty.

Flavorful food! I'd come back on a date. My favorite thing, live chill music, not too loud like in other places. We tried many dishes and all the food was quite good. The shrimp starter was my favorite. Service was not only efficient but kind and fun. Excellent for dinner.

The place is beautiful, but it's extremely cold inside! I should have taken winter clothes... I literally got ill after having "dinner" there. Actually, I couldn't have proper food, as there are no meals for vegetarians, just nibbles. A shame really in 2025. Also, no hand soap in the toilet. Very disappointed.

The location is fantastic, and the atmosphere was enjoyable, but the staff could improve their courtesy. Unfortunately, my friend experienced unkind treatment from the receptionists. We encountered a misunderstanding at the entrance, and the two staff girls members there were quite discourteous.

Yummy! This place has the best drinks all around. The Kong especially you must try. The have this mushroom dish with a wonderful pesto in olive oil and crust bread that is to die for. You absolutely must try. I'll be back! Tuesday and Thursday are best times to go in my opinião. People celebrate birthday parties here. There is a live band, a small dance floor and they were playing James Brown and Kool and the Gang music during the break.
